The American Association Of University Women
Throughout the history of the world, discrimination in all forms has been a constant battle; whether
its race, gender, religion, beliefs, appearance or anything else that makes one person different from
another, it s happening every day. One significant discrimination problem the world population is
battling, takes place in the work place. Women, who are as equally trained and educated, and with
the same experience as menare not getting equal pay, The American Association of University
Women is releasing a new study that shows when men and women attend the same kind of college,
pick the same major and accept the same kind of job, on average, the womanwill still earn 82 cents
to every dollar that a man earns (Coleman). This form of inequality dates back for centuries and
stems from the common belief that since men provide for women and women take care of the
home and children, men therefore are more efficient in the career chosen. This is also known as
systemic discrimination. Now in modern times, the realization that man and woman can produce
the same results, have the same education, and have the same capacity to accomplish the same
overall tasks as men is becoming more popular, especially as the prevalent thought of women as
not as valuable as men is constantly being proven to be incorrect.
The ongoing issue of the past has now become an evident problem in our modern day society.
Women nowadays have opportunities that were not obtainable in past decades but must

Essay about Student-Centered Learning
Student Centered Learning missing works cited
Definition(s)
There are several ways that student centered learning can be described, and they all lead back to
the same basic idea, the student. First, student centered learning can be defined as a discipline that
involves the interaction of a team of students that experience creative learning to be used in the real
world (Thornburg, 1995). Thornburg (1995) also mention that students are essential to the
classroom, just like a team member is essential to a game. He says that teachers are part of the
definition of student centered learning, but they are not the main attraction. The students are the
focus, and the teacher is the one who can assist among small groups of students. Eaton ... Show

Research and development helps with predicting the cost and the effectiveness of the approach on
the system. The idea is that the research and development will increase students future
accomplishment.
The first approach of student centered learning that will be discussed is a teaching method called
the Learning Cycle. A study was done with fifth grade students learning about sound. There were
some students who were taught using the Learning Cycle, and some students were taught using the
textbook approach. To see which method produced a greater understanding of sound the students
were randomly selected, and an interview method was used in both groups to see what the students
previously knew about sound. Then, in the instruction part of the procedure an instructor was used
in both methods. In the Learning Cycle approach there were three phases: exploration, concept
introduction and concept application . During these three phases the students worked together in
groups while discussing their ideas and using manipulatives to act out the concepts. Also, the
teacher would act as a facilitator, while the students discussed their ideas, and created more ideas
and situations to figure out. During the lessons, the students were in active control and they could
lead the lesson with their ideas and conclusions. The students were very excited to work together
and the groups encouraged some of the students to share their ideas more willingly (Barman,
Barman 1996). Dinan

How Is Adolf Hitler Related To The Rise Of The Nazi Party
Anton Drexlers establishment of the National Socialist German Workers Party in 1920, brought
about the rise of Adolf Hitler who led the most significant German political party of the twentieth
century. By famous historians such as Alan Bullock, the Nazi Party is regarded as an organized
conspiracy against the State which pursued power and position, for the sole object was to secure
power by one means or another. Therefore, it may be misunderstood that Hitler and his Party gained
considerable support, thereby controlled the Weimar Republicfrom its creation until the end of
World War ||. There is a large degree of truth that Hitler gained support from 1919 to 1923, when the
Weimar was surviving a series of severe crises consisted of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Summary Of The Construction Of Ghetto
In the article The Construction of the Ghetto by Massey and Denton, there are several policies
and practices that still has its effect on racial structure today. Among the several practices and
policies are the Government Issue (GI) Bill for veterans and housing loans. At a political view,
the GI Bill for veterans helped them buy houses at a lower price due to their contribution in the
war. Since White veterans have the GI Bill, they moved out to the suburbs during 1940 1970,
which was during the time of suburbanization. Because Black veterans did not receive the GI Bill,
they were unable to move out and buy houses. This effect is still present today, considering that in
the statistics, Blacks are less likely than Whites to own houses.

Essay on Tay-Sachs
Tay Sachs
Abstract
Tay Sachs is a disease caused by a mutation to the gene which codes for Hex A. Without Hex A, a
cell cannot degrade GM2 ganglioside into GM3 ganglioside. This results in a build up of
ganglioside s in lysosomes of neurons. The result is varying degrees of mental deterioration. New
DNA based screening is currently being developed to replace the enzyme based screening
techniques that have been used since 1969. This will not only speed up the diagnosis, but also
allow for earlier detection of Tay Sachs by using the parents genotypes.
Introduction
Tay Sachs disease is one of three autosomal recessive, lysosomal storage disorders, collectively
known as the GM2 gangliosidoses. They result from accumulation of ... Show more content on

There is also a third protein required for GM2 ganglioside hydrolysis called the GM2 activator. It

necessary for GM2 hydrolysis. Tay Sachs disease is caused by mutations in the HEXA gene which

The Common Oral Health Problems
Gum disease is one of the most common oral health problems. In fact, it is estimated that 75
percent of adults who are over the age of 30 have gum disease. Forty seven percent of adults who
are over the age of 30 have periodontitis, which is the most serious form of gum disease.
Untreated gum disease will eventually destroy the bone and tissue that supports the teeth. It can
also lead to tooth loss. In fact, gum disease is the top cause of tooth loss in adults. Fortunately,
gum disease can be prevented. Below are some tips for preventing gum disease:
Good Oral Hygiene
Good oral hygiene is one of the keys to preventing gum disease. The mouth is filled with disease
causing bacteria. Brushing and flossing helps prevent bacteria and plaque from building up in your
mouth. You should brush your twice every day. Ideally, you should brush in the morning and before
going to bed. You should spend at least two minutes brushing your teeth.
You will need to floss daily. Flossing helps loosen and remove food particles and bacteria.
Professionals have debated about whether it is best to floss before or after you brush. However, it
does not matter whether or not you floss before you brush. As long as you are flossing and
brushing regularly, your oral health will greatly benefit it.
You should consider using an anti plaque mouthwash after you brush and floss. The mouthwash can
help eliminate the bacteria and plaque that may be left behind. It also helps prevent cavities.

The Importance Of Inequality In America
Freedom and equality are ideas this country has had for centuries that have evolved over time. In
1776, what Thomas Jefferson meant by all men are created equal , is that white males are
dominant in society, women are treated worse than men, and slaves treated worse than women.
People that weren t of the superior race/gender of a white male were typically treated as if they
were less. Women and African Americans aren t being treated as bad today, but they re still being
treated worse than the white males of society. Today, even though white males are typically the
leaders of society, it s not always race and gender that create inequality; sometimes it s money that
creates the issue. But it usually ends up being problematic due to race, gender, and/or religion. Not
only from past evidence, but from present evidence as well, America shows signs of inequality by
the way people are taught differently in different schools due to income and by the often occurring
shootings, riots, and police brutality incidents happening on a national scale. Although people are
treated unequally in most situations and places, America is still equal in some situations. Those
moments just go unnoticed due to the vast amount of inequality that one sees every day of their
life. First off, throughout America s history, there has been a multitude of events and occurrences
that have led to the conclusion that people are being treated differently at different schools.

Essay on The Life of Walt Disney
It all started in 1923 when a young man started off with one idea that lead to bigger and better ideas
as time went on. Walt Disney imagined what people thought to be the impossible and created a
Disney empire that was made up of cartoons, movies, amusement parks, and much more
entertainment. To think if Walt Disneynever shared his visions with the world, there would be no
animation, amusement parks, Mickey Mouse, or any classic Disney movies like Snow White, Mary
Poppins, or Beauty and the Beast. Also, children wouldn t have gotten to experience walking
through Cinderella s Castle into Magic Kingdom, a child s oasis. Although Walt Disney is no

What also made Mickey Mouse very popular was that Walt Disney himself provided the voice of
Mickey until 1947. On February 23rd, 1935 the very first in color Mickey Mouse cartoon was
released. Then later in 1937, Disney Brothers Studios took a big step by creating Snow White
and the Seven Dwarfs. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was the very first animated feature
film with sound and color. Disney Brothers Studio made 8 million dollars off of the release of
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. After completing this movie entirely, Disney Brothers Studio
packed up their things on December 26th, 1939 and moved to Burbank, California from
Hyperion Studio in Los Angeles. Once settled into Burbank, California, Disney Brothers Studio
started to begin a brand new project that would put them over the top. After working diligently
for almost a year finally, Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, opened on July 17th, 1955.
This theme park took up over 160 acres of land and provided rides, games, and pure
entertainment. Weeks before the opening for the park, six thousand invitations were mailed out for
the big day. When the big day finally came, about 28,000 ticket holders came running to the
entrance to get in. When entering into the main entrance, a big opening led straight through
Sleeping Beauty s Castle. Visitors came from all over the world to experience all the different
lands to Disneyland Park. Disneyland Park was made up of four separate lands which are

My Favorite Thing
Impatience is an Iniquity
I was laying on the ground at my favorite place to eat, blood gushing out of my head, tears
running down my face. It felt like forever before someone helped me, like everything was
moving in slow motion. For that brief moment I completely lost my hearing. I was oblivious to
what was around me yet I knew exactly what was going on. I was hurt but I felt no pain. I felt
like nothing changed but the amount of panic on people s faces. There I was, five years old with
the attention span of a goldfish. My family and I went shopping at the store like we would most
friday nights. It was getting late and I was bored and hungry jumping around the store.
Mom!!! I m Starving, I exclaimed loud enough the whole store could hear me.
Just wait. You can eat when we get home, She fervently said to me.
But I can t wait! Can we go to Subway? I begged.
No, I will make spaghetti, She insisted I wait.
I kept begging her to take me to Subway and she kept insisting I wait. After a while they finally
gave in and took me there. I told my mom what I wanted and immediately ran to a high table. I
jumped up onto one of the barstool chairs and sat on my knees impatiently, jumping around eager
to get my sandwich. The line was long and as I sat there I eventually settled down and started
playing on my tablet. I glanced up and noticed my parents had neared the checkout and I, an
impatient five year old, needed to tell them I wanted a cookie. I tried jumping out of my chair

The Debate Concerning The Trinity
Trinity Heresies
The debate concerning the Trinity has been a constant debate throughout history. This debate has
continued on through modern day. As we study the different opinions and beliefs on God the
Father and His Son, we can see a pattern were the Trinity is not fully understood by many. In this
paper, I will discuss The Arian Controversy. I will describe what Arius believed concerning God
and His Son. Then I will share my thoughts and facts that will show what Arius taught was not
correct.
The Bible has so much information about God and his Son. There really should not be any
confusion or controversy over who they are and how they function. But we would be living in a
fairy tale land if everyone agreed on this subject. There is no ... Show more content on

Now that we have some understanding of what Arius was teaching. I will now begin to defend
against his view of God and the Son. Let s begin with addressing that fact that the Son was not a
creature. The Son was God in the flesh. He walked upon earth to spread the gospel and bring
salvation to a sinful world. The prophet Isaiah even writes about the Son before he was born.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he
will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).
The Son was more than flesh, he was the fullness of God. Let s look at the subject of creation.
Arius believes that the Son did not exist during creation. I tend to disagree with his observation.
Jesus Christ is viewed as the creator and the savior of humanity and nature (Langdon, 2015, p.
455). Since God and the Son are one and can t be divided, then He would have to be present at
creation. I believe that the Son and the Holy Spirit both have been with God since the beginning.
According to John 1:1 2, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the
Word was God. He was with God in the beginning . This verse alone is pretty clear on the fact that
the Son was with God during creation. The last statement I will address concerning Arius s
teachings, will be that the Son is changeable. According to Arius, the Word has a

Anne Carson s Lessons
Anne Carson is a very intelligent and well rounded writer. When I first read Anne Carson s Short
Talks , I was seriously confused. At first, I thought she was an abstract writer that wrote just to
write. But then I took a second look at her work and realized there was much more to it than just
crazy jumbled ideas. Short Talks is a mixture of many elements. It has argumentation, facts, personal
opinions, and an unconventional way of writing.
As I was rereading the Short Talks , I noticed names, facts, and a lesson to go along with each
Short Talk. This persuaded me to do some research so the stories would start to make more sense.

Elektra took this very hard, so she and her brother Orestes plotted revenge against her mother and
step father. Elektra s father had been against things like this, but Elektra became so bitter she
began to commit many crimes. So this short talk helps us decide between what is major and minor
in our life. This helps to keep from overreacting over the small things in life.
Another lesson comes from the short talk On Reading. This takes the reader back to their
childhood. No, not everyone enjoys reading, but it is also great for you. In this short talk I got
the imagery that this little girl was on a road trip with her parents, her father does not enjoy
reading but she does. So while on the way to their destination, she reads Madame Bovary. While
reading she takes a moment to look around at the sights passing through the window. This just gets
the reader to truly think and assess the way they perceive the way they view reading. Having
someone who enjoys reading, and someone who finds no pleasure in reading is what makes the
world go round. Not everyone appreciates, or finds interest in the same things, but do not
discourage anyone if you have no interest in it.
If I were to write some short talks I could use an Anne Carson like writing style, or writing that
flows eloquently. I would try to help the reader to understand what is being said, but to also think
about what is before them. I would include an introduction in my short talks

The Business Issues Of Roy And Jones Inc.
As an eminent trading and investment consulting firm, it is of no surprise to find some

Examples Of Growing Distrust Between People And Government
Growing Distrust Between People and Government
Politicians throughout history have a deplorable reputation. When people hear the word politician,
they think of the words corrupt, dishonest, selfish. These thoughts are only exacerbated by recent
political scandals that occurred in modern history. Two examples of these scandals are seen in Ben
Paynter s article, Ripple Effect , featured in the June 2016 edition of Wired. In this article, Ben
Paynter showed the political failures during the Washington D.C. water crisis and the 2015 Flint
Water Crisis, and how they affected the public s opinion on politicians and the government.
An example of political incompetence and dishonesty appeared in Flint, Michigan during the early
months of 2015. As ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Edward s contract was not renewed after this complaint. (Paynter 94) Soon after, the
Washington Post exposed this cover up to the public. (Paynter 94) As a result of this exposed
story, the EPA advised people to flush their water lines. (Paynter 94) However, the EPA s health
advice actually increased [lead] exposure (Paynter 94) to the whole water line. Soon after,
congressional investigations found that hundreds, maybe thousands, of children had been affected
[because] municipal authority in DC had disregarded test results for years (Paynter 94). This
catastrophe is almost similar to the situation that occurred in Flint. It was a result of government
back tracking and ignoring common warning signs. However, this occurred during 2003, before the
massive explosion of mobile devices and the Internet. There was little public response unlike the
incident in Flint that occurred a decade later.
A result of the DC water crisis and the Flint Water Crisis was a growing distrust between Americans
and its own government. As further news came out of Michigan about the government s response,
this disconnect between the people and its government intensified. For example, as Ben Paynter
interviewed native Flint residents, he found there to be distrust people from any level of
government (92). Marc Edwards, the leading environmental engineer that spearheaded both
investigations said, These agencies over every objection I made, went ahead and poisoned

The Theories Of Personality Theories

Prof. Christina Gonzalez
Many psychologists have formed important theories regarding personality. Some of these theories
are still relevant to our world today. These theories have helped form humans and they have also
changed the way we think and the way we do things. There are many different forms of personality
theories that have shaped the world for us: Biological, Behavioral, Psychodynamic, Humanist, Trait,
etc. Biological theories are based on genetics and they believe that genetics are responsible for
personality. Behavioral theories suggest that personality is the reason for interaction between
others. Psychodynamic theories are mostly based on the works of Sigmund Freud. These theories
state that the unconscious mind and childhood has effects in personality. Humanist theories believe
that the ability to be free and have experience on one s own effects personality. The final
personality theory it the Traits theories. This theory states that personality is passed along by traits.
The many personality theories still may not be just enough information for us to understand why
everyone has a different personality, but the theories do help us to have a broader understanding of
it. Famous psychologists such as Sigmund Freud, Carl Rogers, Carl Jung, etc are responsible for
making these theories understandable. They are great thinkers who have proposed many intelligent
theories and reasons for personality. Some of these theories are still

Without support from executive management, social networks may never gain a proper foothold
throughout the organization. Management must set the pace for line staff to follow and adopt.
Therefore, if it s not important to senior management, it most likely won t be important to the
workforce as a whole. According to the case and additional research, most companies are not
providing the incentive that staff requires to be motivated to use these tools. The article states
that only 22 percent of social software users believe the technology to be necessary to their jobs.
Hence training on these new tools and the role they play within an organization is a critical factor
that can lead to failure or success. It is therefore crucial that management in cooperates training and
effectively communicates the importance of these tools to the general workforce. Management
should not assume that because employees are used to participating on social networks like
Facebook that they will adopt to internal social networks as easily. If employees are used to
collaborating and doing business effectively in more traditional ways like sending emails, then they
will need an incentive to use social software. Organization Organization needs to understand the
value of Social Networking for both internal and external business. Once this is done, the efforts to

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Research Paper
Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is an extremely rare, deleterious disease caused by a
type of viral pathogen called a coronavirus. The disease first appeared among residents of
southern China, near Hong Kong, in 2002. Over the course of eight months, the disease spread
to up to 8,000 individuals, 10% of which died. As a contagious viral pandemic, SARS diffused
to nearly 30 countries by 2003, including Germany, Canada, and the United States. However, by
2004, all cases of SARS disappeared and have not reappeared anywhere since then. After
considerable research, scientists discovered that the infection was caused by a single stranded
RNA coronavirus. The virus was so named due to the several corona like spikes that were known
to protrude from the molecule. Because SARS suddenly attracted widespread attention when it was
first identified in China in 2002, the virus was classified as an emerging infectious disease.... Show

which is the majority used in the documentary. Corruption in the NCAA is not only a current
issue but has existed dating back to the 1940 s. In the 1940 s and 1950 s ivy league schools used
to secretly pay players in order to attract top talent in the country. After more and more illegal
salaries came into play, the scholarship was invented in order to stop the corrupt system and
give the players more of a reward. The NCAA is technically a nonprofit organization, however

Many factors come into play on how the NCAA became what it is today such as the introduction

Severe Acute Kidney Injury
Introduction Acute kidney injury (AKI) following cardiac surgery is a well known complication
that occurs in up to 30% of patients(1,2). Severe acute renal failure, which requires renal
replacement therapy, is associated with a very high mortality(60 100%) when treated with the usual
intermittent hemodialysis(3 5) . However, the introduction of continuous renal replacement therapy
has resulted in significant improvement in outcome as well reduction in mortality(1,5). One such
form of continuous renal replacement is continuous venovenous hemofiltration(CVVH). CVVH
treats uraemia and ultrafiltrate toxic proteins such as the myocardial depressant factor, thus it
improves heart and lung functions in patients with ARF and cardiac shock after heart surgery(6,7).
It offers better control of the patient s volume status and also avoids the hemodynamic instability
associated with intermittent hemodialysis(4,7). Such modality of treatment was reported to be
approximately 6% after CABG(8,9). It is essential to predict which group of patients would
benefits from such intensive use of CVVH so as to use it more rationally(3). Based on many
published studies, early use of CVVH is advocated to have better outcomes(3,7). However, its use
has been criticized for being costly, resource intensive and virtually may not improve... Show more

This study done by Oliver Robinson and Gordon Wright (2013) focuses on the crises
experienced in early and middle adulthood and its correlation with prevalence, type of crisis

Autobiographical memory meaning the memories a person has about their past that makes up
their personal and individual story (Robinson Wright, 2013). While a crisis episode, for the sake

British Colonies And The New England Colonies
Throughout the New World many British colonies were established for various reasons. A few of
those reasons being for religious freedom, farming, and gold. The way that certain colonies would
succeed and develop depended on geographical factors. Eventually some colonies would flourish
through farming, seaport trade, or industry. In the New England colonies such as Massachusetts,
Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire, their economy succeeded through shipbuilding
and trading. The soil up north was very rocky and the New England colonies experienced long
winters short summers, which didn t create ideal farming land. Despite the flawed farming
elements, colonists managed to subsistence farm within the short growing season. This means that
the colonists grew just enough crops to provided to their families. ( New England Colonies. New
England Colonies. N.p., n.d. Web. 11 Sept. 2014.) Although New England didn t have the best
farming conditions the colonies had an abundant amount of trees. The trees were cut down and then
used as lumber and timber for shipbuilding. Since the New England colonies were in a close
proximity of the sea the colonies depended heavily on trade and fishing. New England participated
in the Triangular Trade, exporting goods such as lumber, fish, horses and flour then in return the
West Indies would supply the colonies with sugar, molasses, and rum. (Shmoop Editorial Team.

How People Make Economic Decisions
How People Make Economic Decisions Paper
ECO/212
How People Make Economic Decisions The economic decision an individual, household, or even
a firm makes has a major impact on the economy as a whole. These decisions affect the supply of
a good or service, the demand of that good or service and ultimately the price of that good or
service. This paper will focus on how individual decision making affects an economy, how
understanding the marginal benefits from the marginal cost affects economic decisions, and the
three major types of economic systems. The main principle of individual decision making is utility.
Utility is the enjoyment or satisfaction people receive from consuming goods and services. Another

3 31). A key factor in economicssuch as scarcity, which is defined as a situation in which
unlimited wants exceed the limited resources available to fulfill those wants, effects how much
money an individual will spend or how many goods a country can produce. Since the majority of
people have a limited income, their decision to buy what they want and need is limited due to
budget constraints. Because resources are limited, a country must decide what goods it can
produce to help progress the economy as a whole. The country has to determine the opportunity
cost of that activity of producing that good or service. Opportunity cost is the highest valued
alternative that must be given up to engage in an activity (Hubbard O Brien, 2010, pp. 3 31). The
three major economic systems are centrally planned economy, market economy and mixed
economy. Centrally planned economy is an economy in which the government decides on how
resources will be used. Market economy is an economy in which individuals, households, and
firms participating and interacting in markets determine how economic resources are used. Mixed
economy is primarily a market economy because most economic decisions are a result of the
interaction of buyers and seller in markets. However, the government plays a significant role in the
allocation of resources (Hubbard O Brien, 2010, pp. 3 31). By understanding that economics is a

The purpose of this article is to first understand the policies related to racial diversity. From that
point, it analyzes the possibilities to restructure these campus policies to incorporate Asian
Americans as an equity manner. Different experiences for Asian Americans in higher education
through the years are interesting as a diversity point of view. Asian Americans students have access
to financial aid and other social service during their staying in the United States. In addition, they

Earth s galaxy, the Milky Way consists of more than 100 billion stars, many of which can be

pastor, Chris Hodges. Evangelism is the definition of the church so to speak, Church of the
Highlands stands behind the final authority of God s word which is the bible. It is often said
among the staff we do not argue the essentials, but we can disagree the non essentials. The church
believes and acts in spreading the good news of Jesus Christ, and helping people move through four
steps our God has outlined in the Great Commission. Our Church exists to see people saved,
delivered, redeemed, and fulfilled. This is accomplished with four systems that allow the people
to move through the four steps. The first is weekend services to allow them to know God
(saved), small groups to find freedom (delivered), growth track to discover purpose (redeemed),
and dream team to be fulfilled and make a difference (fulfilled). This vision is how the church
evangelizes (Bagwell). This vision is clear to all members of the church who call Church of the

the first micro breweries in the Middle East, the brewing company was established in 1994 and is
located in Taybeh a Palestinian Christian village in the West Bank located 20 miles from
Jerusalem. The first beer was produced in 1995.
Taybeh beer was the first Palestinian product to be franchised in Germany, where it was brewed
and bottled for sale in Europe. Taybeh beer is considered unique because it is made according to
the German purity law of 500 years ago which states that the beer should be made out of four basic
natural ingredients: malt, hops, pure water, and yeast, following every aspect of the German
brewing process. Taybeh beer produces three varieties: Golden, Light, and Dark.
The Taybeh brewery was born in the years of optimism that followed the Oslo peace accords in
the mid 1990s, a time when Palestinians and Israelis hoped an end to their conflict was in sight.
Nadim Khoury had left the village years before and was living in Boston in the United States,
where he had taught himself to brew beer at home. His family encouraged him to return to the
Palestine. Nadim is the production manager and CEO, his brother David is the financial manager

The Paradox Of Success Research Paper
Another discipline that widely displays the paradox of finding success through failure is science.
In science there have been many great success stories, where scientists have achieved their success
through failure. An example of this is Thomas Edison, who experienced many setbacks in life but
did not let that stop him from reaching his goals. Thomas Edison was one of the most productive
inventors in American history. With 1,093 U.S. patents and more in the United Kingdom, France,
and Germany, no other inventor has come close to Edison s output (Edison, 2007). His resiliency is
what led to him finally getting it right. On his failed attempts, Edison said,

Interestingly enough, Thomas Edison who also struggled with setbacks, was a close friend of
Henry Ford and urged him to pursue his dreams of manufacturing cars. Edison s past experience
allowed him to be able to give him this sound advice. It wasn t always easy for Ford, who grew
up knowing that an individual could get ahead in the world by working hard. But social or
economic conditions were not an excuse, (Ford, 2003). He worked very hard, despite his economic
status to become the success that he was and still is today. His work ethic and mindset are what
pushed him to keep going, even when things were not going his way. He stated, You can do
anything if you have enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is the yeast that makes your hopes rise to the
stars, (Ford, 2003). I really like this metaphor of success, because it is completely true. If we are
able to have enthusiasm towards what we are trying to accomplish, we will be more likely to
reach it. This is similar to what a wise professor of mine says, If your not having fun, you re not
learning. Which goes hand in hand with success as well, because if you are not enjoying what you

Nunn uses similar dialogue and film discourse to construct the argument in the scene which was
analysed before. Malvolio is seen on his knee in front of Olivia in the beginning of the scene,
rereading lines from the forged letter in front of her whilst attempting to hold onto her. Meanwhile
Olivia tries to escape his madness but is unsuccessful as Malvolio still hangs onto her whilst
continuing to read to her in a happy and joyful tone. Nunn uses film discourse in this scene to
position the audience to think that Malvolio is a madman when Olivia says This is a midsummer

and will continue to do bizarre things for love. In the next shot, Nunn uses camera angles to
show Malvolio blowing a kiss to Olivia which reinforces Malvolio s ridiculousness in his
attempts to woo Olivia. This idea is exemplified through Nunn s use of music in the final shots of

Centervale Police Patrol
All police departments grapple with the challenge of allocating their limited resources to meet to
meet law enforcement needs of the communities they serve. Crucial to alleviating the cost
pressures the departments face is patrol force allocation. Most of the budgets go to salaries and
expenses, such as fringe benefits, which mean that increases in personnel utilization efficiencies
would result in dollar savings. As such, it is the duty of policechiefs to determine what the patrols
will look like regarding when and where the patrols will take place. This paper, thus, seeks to
outline how the Centervale Police Department should allocate patrol resources to best serve the
needs of Centervale.
Patrols are meant to eliminate criminal opportunities by creating an impression of presence in the
community. However, patrols do not decrease an individual s desire to break the law but by
diminishing the opportunities to commit crime, they promote a sense of safety to residents. As the
assistant chief in the Centervale Police Department, CPD, one would develop a strategy that caters

Random preventive patrol strategies aim to increase visibility in the community to deter crime
and reduce the general public s fear of crime. However, this method of patrols is ineffective at
apprehending offenders. Directed patrols in Centervale would use hot spot policing approach by
increasing the presence of uniforms in the northern side of the railroad tracks, where crime is most
prevalent at night. However, that would come at price to the south side since the residents of the
south of railroad tracks contribute more to the town s taxes. The assistant chief would have to use
the money coming from the south side for crime deterrence in the north to prevent migration of

largely anthologized poets of the twentieth century. Cummings took a great amount of appreciation
toward his readers and sought to provide entertainment through his poetry by using visual effect and
familial love. Cummings s continual objectives were conformism, mass psychology, and his
arrogance which all led to his entertaining and occasionally scornful ridicules. Cummings s
historical experience of his time spent in World War I, The Enormous Room (1922), and his
tentative plays, such as Him (1927), have acquired him the reputation as a distinguished writer of
the modernist era in America literature. E.E. Cummings was a Man of Poetryand his background
revealed him as being a distinctive American poet, which greatly influenced his literary
accomplishments in poetry.
Cummings was encouraged upon his creative gifts at an early age by his parents. His father who
was a Congregationalist minister and teacher at Harvard University, and his mother who found

Artists looking for the existing moment have only enlarged since the mention of his odd and
delightful poems. Even if Cummings s poetry does not satisfy a specific reader, the inspiration of
Cummings on the upcoming of poetry due to his visual creativity, grasp of words, and
modernization cannot be denied. It can be stated that poetry was not the same before Cummings,
and is persistently altered after him. He has not been favored by critics or had them on his side, he
has frequently stood the aim of tough criticism. With the surprise of his use of punctuation, critics
are seeing his works and are noticing the exact significance in the poems themselves. Possibly the
critics are finally beginning to give Cummings and his work a valuable

Short Opera Die Fledermaus
On Sunday December 6th I attended a performance of a concert version of the operetta, which is
a short opera, usually on a light or humorous theme and typically having spoken dialogue, Die
Fledermaus which translates to The Bat and was originally composed by Johan Strauss II, by the
Brooklyn College Opera Theater, accompanied by the conservatory orchestra. The performance
took place in Whitman theater, and the small audience seemed mostly to be relatives of the
performers. The operetta had 3 acts, and the operetta also included classical solos from some of
the members of the Conservatory singers. One of the main characters Eisenstein has tot go to jail
because he insulted a civil servant. A friend of his, Dr. Falke invites him to go to

Reach Customers Easy and Fast with Business Texting
According to Forbes Magazine, mobile marketing is the future of customer communication.
Forbes cites that over 80 percent of adults own a phone and over 90 percent of adults keep their
phone within arm s reach. In fact, over half of mobile searches lead to a sale. Therefore, business
texting is essential to business success. Here are three reasons why business texting is critical to
your marketing plan. http://www.forbes.com/sites/cherylsnappconner/2013/11/12/fifty essential
mobile marketing facts/ Business Texting is Optional
Mass marketing relies on the principles of saturating a target demographic or random members of
the public with advertising. However, business texting is an opt in service. That is, consumers
voluntarily provide their phone number and are free to opt out at any time. Therefore, the target
audience will be consumers who are already familiar with the product or service. As a result, you
can reduce wasted marketing costs while accurately reaching your target market. Keep in mind that
business texting will always rely on traditional advertising forms to establish and maintain and
customer texting database.

When it comes to email, consumers are tired of dealing with spam and banner ads. Since texting
spam is still in the infancy stage, phone users aren t as jaded as they are compared with traditional
email. In addition to this, text messages are quicker, shorter and easier to read. Keep in mind that
25 percent of adults only have a smartphone to access the Internet. Therefore, the conversion
process and rates for a business text is much higher. Business texting is also an excellent opportunity
to directly engage consumers in conversation while improving the Customer Relationship

Osmoregulation as a Homeostatic Mechanism using the...
Osmoregulation as a Homeostatic Mechanism using the Comparitive Melting Point Method for two
Crab Species.
Abstract
Two crab species, Plagusia and Cyclograpsus, were collected from a local estuary in the littoral and
deep water zone for osmoregulation studies. To examine differences in osmoregulatory mechanisms
among the species, haemolymph of the specimens was extracted once they were acclimated to
varying concentrations of seawater. Using the comparative melting point, capillary tubes were
filled with small samples of seawater and blood then frozen and melted in a 15ЛљC ethanol bath.
The melting time of each was observed thereafter. Subject s time range fell over 17 minutes of

b) Experimental Design (Laboratory Manual, 2013)
The fourteen collected samples of fluid included distilled water (0% seawater/ionic
concentration), 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% seawater; 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% seawater
in Cyclograpsus blood; and 60%, 70%, 80% and 100% seawater in Plagusia blood. 1.0 mm bore
capillary tubes were cleaned and dried. Approximately 3.0 mm of each fluid was drawn into 14
different tubes, and gently tapped to ensure the fluid was moved to the middle of the tubes. The
tubes were marked and sealed using Vaseline, then placed strictly in an adjacent parallel order,
using Vaseline as an anchor, across a capillary level holder. Dry ice was carefully placed on the
capillary tubes to freeze the fluid in the capillary tubes.
An alcohol bath was prepared with an ethanol solution and dry ice, the solution was measured using
a thermometer, at approximately 15Лљ the bath was placed under a Polaroid filter and above a
stable jar upon a white piece of paper. The capillary level holder with the frozen capillary tubes
was placed carefully into the bath (at an angle to reduce effervescence). A lamp was placed 20 cm
away from the setup and shone on the Polaroid filter. This setup ensured the ethanol solution didn t
heat up too rapidly.
The ethanol solution was stirred at regular intervals using an unreactive rod, whilst a stopwatch was
used to accurately determine the melting point of each capillary tube, by clear visualisation of the

How many people are tired of vacationing in the same DRAB place? How many people are
looking for some excitement, new experiences, and a chance to travel the world without
depleting your life savings? Cruise ships have always been a luxurious get away from the daily
CLUTTER of society. Since, the first transatlantic cruise in the 1900 s, over 1 billion passengers

Additionally, having a state issue ID is also important in proving your identity as well as your
residency. You should always have your passport and an ID with you when going to foreign
countries and planning a cruise. In order to even step aboard a cruise line you have to show
your state ID as well as your passport. Immigration is also a security issue all over the world. It
would be an expensive mistake to misplace your passport and ID, because you can be detained in
a foreign country. Secondly, some people assume in order to plan a luxurious cruise you need a
travel agent, but truly all you need is a destination and internet. A rule of thumb is to start planning
for a cruise six months in advance and collect as much knowledge and tips from websites that
specializes in the cruise ship industry. The internet is a vast collection of information just waiting
for you to access it. You don t want to wait until the last minute to research, because that is when
careless mistakes happen and your dream cruise should be spectacular. For this reason, you should
access websites such as cruisecritic.com and cruise reviews.com. These website have pools of
knowledge that could make your cruise planning an easy endeavor instead of a confusing one. With
information about which months are the best for cruising, to which tropical locations offer

United States Economic Financial Crisis
Throughout the years, different events occurred and influenced the global economy positively
or negatively. For example, the oil crisis in the 70s negatively affected the economy just as bad
as the Gulf War did in 1990. On the other side, the end of other wars had a positive effect on the
economy, for example World War 2, which boosted the stock market and ended the Great
Depression. When multiple negative effects occur at the same time, or when crises last for a long
time allowing other negative effects to surface, crises tend to last longer and prevent a pick up in
growth.
The current economic financial crisis was indeed caused by the simultaneous occurrence of
events in different parts of the world that all had a negative effect. These events are subtly
different and therefore it is common that only one event is held responsible for the crisis. In
reality, the world economy became critical due to the mix of four major events: 1) the unrestrained
greed of financiers in the U.S. and U.K., which transformed bad mortgages into toxic financial
assets 2) the habit of getting deeply indebted in the U.S. and U.K., 3) the excessive liquidity in
Europe, 4) the real estate bubble in the U.S. and some European countries (Thomas, 2011) At the
beginning of the financial collapse in the United States, many commentators, among which was the
President of the Federal Reserve, hastily affirmed that the situation would only affect the United
States and at most, the UK, where the banks,

Clarissa s Way of Death Essay examples
Clarissa s Way of Death
In Clarissa, Samuel Richardson finds an exemplar to her sex. But her story does not provide a
model to live by, as such a qualification may lead one to expect. Only in the afterlife does Clarissa
presumably receive what she deserves. The life suggested by her example is untenable. Clarissa s
death is the inevitable result of her unrealistic, unimpeachable virtue В a virtue that is defined less
by what she does than by what she will permit. Her death serves not only a narrative end in the
novel, but the demands of psychological realism. Richardson respects the conclusion made
inevitable by the very divinity of Clarissa s personality. This heroine can have no other conclusion.

I have sometimes wished that it had pleased God to have taken me in my last fever, when I had
everybody s love and good opinion followed by but oftener that I had never been distinguished by
my grandfatherЕ since that distinction has estranged her from her brother and sister (2). We see
her wishing for a state in which she is universally loved, a state she once existed in, and that she
would eagerly regain. Alongside this, she decries that very exceptionalness that earns her acclaim.
She finds that she cannot be an exemplar and also be universally loved. This is the essential
paradox of her personality. It becomes necessary for these death wishes to be in earnest, as only
death could preserve the unblemished state she once existed in.
What sets Clarissa apart is what damns her. Your merit is your crime Anna Howetells her (74), You
can no more change your nature than they can theirs. But this intractability is Clarissa s
inheritance from the Harlowes. Anna Howe says, significantly, of Clarissa: I am fitter for this
world than you; you for the next than me (19). Not only is this an apposite description, it sets up
the incontrovertible opposition between the two worlds that determines the impracticability of
Clarissa s life. Howe might as well be saying, you are fitter to be dead than I. Anna s observation
describes the difficulty of persisting in a state of grace. Innocence, and

How To Write A Narrative Essay About My Final Game
Under 500 We have been on and off all season, yet here we are the last two games of the year we
stand just two games behind and even season. The first game against some team I ve never

before the seventh inning. But somehow I find myself here; Anxiously waiting for my turn to
show the team I could make something happen. It s the last inning of the final game and I m up
to bat first. I could feel my stomach drop to the deepest part of my body as I stand around
watching the other team warm up before we start to play. Two! yells the catcher as the last warm
up pitch is thrown. I walk up to the plate; The sun is beating down on me like a spotlight, and my
nerves sink in. I look to coach for signs and he gives me the green light to go. I watch the first
pitch go by, WIZZZ straight down the middle. Strike! Shouts the umpire. At this point I could feel

  • 3. The American Association Of University Women Throughout the history of the world, discrimination in all forms has been a constant battle; whether its race, gender, religion, beliefs, appearance or anything else that makes one person different from another, it s happening every day. One significant discrimination problem the world population is battling, takes place in the work place. Women, who are as equally trained and educated, and with the same experience as menare not getting equal pay, The American Association of University Women is releasing a new study that shows when men and women attend the same kind of college, pick the same major and accept the same kind of job, on average, the womanwill still earn 82 cents to every dollar that a man earns (Coleman). This form of inequality dates back for centuries and stems from the common belief that since men provide for women and women take care of the home and children, men therefore are more efficient in the career chosen. This is also known as systemic discrimination. Now in modern times, the realization that man and woman can produce the same results, have the same education, and have the same capacity to accomplish the same overall tasks as men is becoming more popular, especially as the prevalent thought of women as not as valuable as men is constantly being proven to be incorrect. The ongoing issue of the past has now become an evident problem in our modern day society. Women nowadays have opportunities that were not obtainable in past decades but must ... • 4. Essay about Student-Centered Learning Student Centered Learning missing works cited Definition(s) There are several ways that student centered learning can be described, and they all lead back to the same basic idea, the student. First, student centered learning can be defined as a discipline that involves the interaction of a team of students that experience creative learning to be used in the real world (Thornburg, 1995). Thornburg (1995) also mention that students are essential to the classroom, just like a team member is essential to a game. He says that teachers are part of the definition of student centered learning, but they are not the main attraction. The students are the focus, and the teacher is the one who can assist among small groups of students. Eaton ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research and development helps with predicting the cost and the effectiveness of the approach on the system. The idea is that the research and development will increase students future accomplishment. The first approach of student centered learning that will be discussed is a teaching method called the Learning Cycle. A study was done with fifth grade students learning about sound. There were some students who were taught using the Learning Cycle, and some students were taught using the textbook approach. To see which method produced a greater understanding of sound the students were randomly selected, and an interview method was used in both groups to see what the students previously knew about sound. Then, in the instruction part of the procedure an instructor was used in both methods. In the Learning Cycle approach there were three phases: exploration, concept introduction and concept application . During these three phases the students worked together in groups while discussing their ideas and using manipulatives to act out the concepts. Also, the teacher would act as a facilitator, while the students discussed their ideas, and created more ideas and situations to figure out. During the lessons, the students were in active control and they could lead the lesson with their ideas and conclusions. The students were very excited to work together and the groups encouraged some of the students to share their ideas more willingly (Barman, Barman 1996). Dinan ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Is Adolf Hitler Related To The Rise Of The Nazi Party Anton Drexlers establishment of the National Socialist German Workers Party in 1920, brought about the rise of Adolf Hitler who led the most significant German political party of the twentieth century. By famous historians such as Alan Bullock, the Nazi Party is regarded as an organized conspiracy against the State which pursued power and position, for the sole object was to secure power by one means or another. Therefore, it may be misunderstood that Hitler and his Party gained considerable support, thereby controlled the Weimar Republicfrom its creation until the end of World War ||. Summary Of The Construction Of Ghetto In the article The Construction of the Ghetto by Massey and Denton, there are several policies and practices that still has its effect on racial structure today. Among the several practices and policies are the Government Issue (GI) Bill for veterans and housing loans. At a political view, the GI Bill for veterans helped them buy houses at a lower price due to their contribution in the war. Since White veterans have the GI Bill, they moved out to the suburbs during 1940 1970, which was during the time of suburbanization. Because Black veterans did not receive the GI Bill, they were unable to move out and buy houses. This effect is still present today, considering that in the statistics, Blacks are less likely than Whites to own houses. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay on Tay-Sachs Tay Sachs Abstract Tay Sachs is a disease caused by a mutation to the gene which codes for Hex A. Without Hex A, a cell cannot degrade GM2 ganglioside into GM3 ganglioside. This results in a build up of ganglioside s in lysosomes of neurons. The result is varying degrees of mental deterioration. New DNA based screening is currently being developed to replace the enzyme based screening techniques that have been used since 1969. This will not only speed up the diagnosis, but also allow for earlier detection of Tay Sachs by using the parents genotypes. • 9. The Importance Of Inequality In America Freedom and equality are ideas this country has had for centuries that have evolved over time. In 1776, what Thomas Jefferson meant by all men are created equal , is that white males are dominant in society, women are treated worse than men, and slaves treated worse than women. People that weren t of the superior race/gender of a white male were typically treated as if they were less. Women and African Americans aren t being treated as bad today, but they re still being treated worse than the white males of society. Today, even though white males are typically the leaders of society, it s not always race and gender that create inequality; sometimes it s money that creates the issue. But it usually ends up being problematic due to race, gender, and/or religion. Not only from past evidence, but from present evidence as well, America shows signs of inequality by the way people are taught differently in different schools due to income and by the often occurring shootings, riots, and police brutality incidents happening on a national scale. Although people are treated unequally in most situations and places, America is still equal in some situations. Those moments just go unnoticed due to the vast amount of inequality that one sees every day of their life. First off, throughout America s history, there has been a multitude of events and occurrences that have led to the conclusion that people are being treated differently at different schools. Walt Disney imagined what people thought to be the impossible and created a Disney empire that was made up of cartoons, movies, amusement parks, and much more entertainment. To think if Walt Disneynever shared his visions with the world, there would be no animation, amusement parks, Mickey Mouse, or any classic Disney movies like Snow White, Mary Poppins, or Beauty and the Beast. Also, children wouldn t have gotten to experience walking through Cinderella s Castle into Magic Kingdom, a child s oasis. What also made Mickey Mouse very popular was that Walt Disney himself provided the voice of Mickey until 1947. On February 23rd, 1935 the very first in color Mickey Mouse cartoon was released. Then later in 1937, Disney Brothers Studios took a big step by creating Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was the very first animated feature film with sound and color. Disney Brothers Studio made 8 million dollars off of the release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. After completing this movie entirely, Disney Brothers Studio packed up their things on December 26th, 1939 and moved to Burbank, California from Hyperion Studio in Los Angeles. Once settled into Burbank, California, Disney Brothers Studio started to begin a brand new project that would put them over the top. After working diligently for almost a year finally, Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, opened on July 17th, 1955. This theme park took up over 160 acres of land and provided rides, games, and pure entertainment. Weeks before the opening for the park, six thousand invitations were mailed out for the big day. When the big day finally came, about 28,000 ticket holders came running to the entrance to get in. When entering into the main entrance, a big opening led straight through Sleeping Beauty s Castle. • 11. My Favorite Thing Impatience is an Iniquity I was laying on the ground at my favorite place to eat, blood gushing out of my head, tears running down my face. It felt like forever before someone helped me, like everything was moving in slow motion. For that brief moment I completely lost my hearing. I was oblivious to what was around me yet I knew exactly what was going on. I was hurt but I felt no pain. I felt like nothing changed but the amount of panic on people s faces. There I was, five years old with the attention span of a goldfish. My family and I went shopping at the store like we would most friday nights. After a while they finally gave in and took me there. I told my mom what I wanted and immediately ran to a high table. I jumped up onto one of the barstool chairs and sat on my knees impatiently, jumping around eager to get my sandwich. The line was long and as I sat there I eventually settled down and started playing on my tablet. I glanced up and noticed my parents had neared the checkout and I, an impatient five year old, needed to tell them I wanted a cookie. I tried jumping out of my chair ... • 12. The Debate Concerning The Trinity Trinity Heresies The debate concerning the Trinity has been a constant debate throughout history. This debate has continued on through modern day. As we study the different opinions and beliefs on God the Father and His Son, we can see a pattern were the Trinity is not fully understood by many. In this paper, I will discuss The Arian Controversy. I will describe what Arius believed concerning God and His Son. Then I will share my thoughts and facts that will show what Arius taught was not correct. The Bible has so much information about God and his Son. There really should not be any confusion or controversy over who they are and how they function. But we would be living in a fairy tale land if everyone agreed on this subject. There is no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now that we have some understanding of what Arius was teaching. I will now begin to defend against his view of God and the Son. Let s begin with addressing that fact that the Son was not a creature. The Son was God in the flesh. He walked upon earth to spread the gospel and bring salvation to a sinful world. The prophet Isaiah even writes about the Son before he was born. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). The Son was more than flesh, he was the fullness of God. Let s look at the subject of creation. Arius believes that the Son did not exist during creation. I tend to disagree with his observation. Jesus Christ is viewed as the creator and the savior of humanity and nature (Langdon, 2015, p. 455). Since God and the Son are one and can t be divided, then He would have to be present at creation. I believe that the Son and the Holy Spirit both have been with God since the beginning. According to John 1:1 2, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning . This verse alone is pretty clear on the fact that the Son was with God during creation. The last statement I will address concerning Arius s teachings, will be that the Son is changeable. According to Arius, the Word has a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Anne Carson Essay Kiersten Baxley Professor Shirokova English 1102 12 September 2012 Anne Carson s Lessons Anne Carson is a very intelligent and well rounded writer. When I first read Anne Carson s Short Talks , I was seriously confused. At first, I thought she was an abstract writer that wrote just to write. But then I took a second look at her work and realized there was much more to it than just crazy jumbled ideas. Short Talks is a mixture of many elements. It has argumentation, facts, personal opinions, and an unconventional way of writing. As I was rereading the Short Talks , I noticed names, facts, and a lesson to go along with each Short Talk. This persuaded me to do some research so the stories would start to make more sense. After ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Elektra took this very hard, so she and her brother Orestes plotted revenge against her mother and step father. Elektra s father had been against things like this, but Elektra became so bitter she began to commit many crimes. So this short talk helps us decide between what is major and minor in our life. This helps to keep from overreacting over the small things in life. Another lesson comes from the short talk On Reading. This takes the reader back to their childhood. No, not everyone enjoys reading, but it is also great for you. In this short talk I got the imagery that this little girl was on a road trip with her parents, her father does not enjoy reading but she does. So while on the way to their destination, she reads Madame Bovary. While reading she takes a moment to look around at the sights passing through the window. This just gets the reader to truly think and assess the way they perceive the way they view reading. Having someone who enjoys reading, and someone who finds no pleasure in reading is what makes the world go round. Not everyone appreciates, or finds interest in the same things, but do not discourage anyone if you have no interest in it. When people hear the word politician, they think of the words corrupt, dishonest, selfish. These thoughts are only exacerbated by recent political scandals that occurred in modern history. Two examples of these scandals are seen in Ben Paynter s article, Ripple Effect , featured in the June 2016 edition of Wired. In this article, Ben Paynter showed the political failures during the Washington D.C. water crisis and the 2015 Flint Water Crisis, and how they affected the public s opinion on politicians and the government. However, this occurred during 2003, before the massive explosion of mobile devices and the Internet. There was little public response unlike the incident in Flint that occurred a decade later. A result of the DC water crisis and the Flint Water Crisis was a growing distrust between Americans and its own government. As further news came out of Michigan about the government s response, this disconnect between the people and its government intensified. Some of these theories are still relevant to our world today. These theories have helped form humans and they have also changed the way we think and the way we do things. There are many different forms of personality theories that have shaped the world for us: Biological, Behavioral, Psychodynamic, Humanist, Trait, etc. Biological theories are based on genetics and they believe that genetics are responsible for personality. Behavioral theories suggest that personality is the reason for interaction between others. Psychodynamic theories are mostly based on the works of Sigmund Freud. These theories state that the unconscious mind and childhood has effects in personality. Humanist theories believe that the ability to be free and have experience on one s own effects personality. The final personality theory it the Traits theories. This theory states that personality is passed along by traits. The many personality theories still may not be just enough information for us to understand why everyone has a different personality, but the theories do help us to have a broader understanding of it. In the New England colonies such as Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire, their economy succeeded through shipbuilding and trading. This paper will focus on how individual decision making affects an economy, how understanding the marginal benefits from the marginal cost affects economic decisions, and the three major types of economic systems. A key factor in economicssuch as scarcity, which is defined as a situation in which unlimited wants exceed the limited resources available to fulfill those wants, effects how much money an individual will spend or how many goods a country can produce. Since the majority of people have a limited income, their decision to buy what they want and need is limited due to budget constraints. Because resources are limited, a country must decide what goods it can produce to help progress the economy as a whole. The country has to determine the opportunity cost of that activity of producing that good or service. Opportunity cost is the highest valued alternative that must be given up to engage in an activity (Hubbard O Brien, 2010, pp. 3 31). The three major economic systems are centrally planned economy, market economy and mixed economy. Centrally planned economy is an economy in which the government decides on how resources will be used. Market economy is an economy in which individuals, households, and firms participating and interacting in markets determine how economic resources are used. Mixed economy is primarily a market economy because most economic decisions are a result of the interaction of buyers and seller in markets. • 34. The Paradox Of Success Research Paper Another discipline that widely displays the paradox of finding success through failure is science. In science there have been many great success stories, where scientists have achieved their success through failure. An example of this is Thomas Edison, who experienced many setbacks in life but did not let that stop him from reaching his goals. Thomas Edison was one of the most productive inventors in American history. With 1,093 U.S. patents and more in the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, no other inventor has come close to Edison s output (Edison, 2007). His resiliency is what led to him finally getting it right. On his failed attempts, Edison said, I have not failed 10,000 times. I have not failed once. I have succeeded in proving ... Interestingly enough, Thomas Edison who also struggled with setbacks, was a close friend of Henry Ford and urged him to pursue his dreams of manufacturing cars. Edison s past experience allowed him to be able to give him this sound advice. It wasn t always easy for Ford, who grew up knowing that an individual could get ahead in the world by working hard. But social or economic conditions were not an excuse, (Ford, 2003). He worked very hard, despite his economic status to become the success that he was and still is today. His work ethic and mindset are what pushed him to keep going, even when things were not going his way. He stated, You can do anything if you have enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is the yeast that makes your hopes rise to the stars, (Ford, 2003). I really like this metaphor of success, because it is completely true. If we are able to have enthusiasm towards what we are trying to accomplish, we will be more likely to reach it. This is similar to what a wise professor of mine says, If your not having fun, you re not learning. Dialogue And Film Distice In Trevor Nunn s Twelfth Night People doing crazy things while they are in love is not a recently developed concept, in fact this concept has been present in society for centuries. I bet even some of the people in this room right now have done, or thought of doing something crazy or foolish to impress there crush. But because your common senses kicked in, you made a choice not to do the crazy thing you thought of doing to make sure your crush liked you and you were brought back into the real world. Nunn uses similar dialogue and film discourse to construct the argument in the scene which was analysed before. Malvolio is seen on his knee in front of Olivia in the beginning of the scene, rereading lines from the forged letter in front of her whilst attempting to hold onto her. Meanwhile Olivia tries to escape his madness but is unsuccessful as Malvolio still hangs onto her whilst continuing to read to her in a happy and joyful tone. Nunn uses film discourse in this scene to position the audience to think that Malvolio is a madman when Olivia says This is a midsummer madness. This dialogue causes the audience to believe that Malvolio is crazy in love with Olivia and will continue to do bizarre things for love. In the next shot, Nunn uses camera angles to show Malvolio blowing a kiss to Olivia which reinforces Malvolio s ridiculousness in his attempts to woo Olivia. This idea is exemplified through Nunn s use of music in the final shots of the scene where the music is silly and further portrays Malvolio as a madman. Crucial to alleviating the cost pressures the departments face is patrol force allocation. Most of the budgets go to salaries and expenses, such as fringe benefits, which mean that increases in personnel utilization efficiencies would result in dollar savings. As such, it is the duty of policechiefs to determine what the patrols will look like regarding when and where the patrols will take place. This paper, thus, seeks to outline how the Centervale Police Department should allocate patrol resources to best serve the needs of Centervale. Patrols are meant to eliminate criminal opportunities by creating an impression of presence in the community. However, patrols do not decrease an individual s desire to break the law but by diminishing the opportunities to commit crime, they promote a sense of safety to residents. As the assistant chief in the Centervale Police Department, CPD, one would develop a strategy that caters for both sides of the railroad tracks with fairness although with an emphasis on the crime prone north. • 45. United States Economic Financial Crisis Throughout the years, different events occurred and influenced the global economy positively or negatively. For example, the oil crisis in the 70s negatively affected the economy just as bad as the Gulf War did in 1990. On the other side, the end of other wars had a positive effect on the economy, for example World War 2, which boosted the stock market and ended the Great Depression. When multiple negative effects occur at the same time, or when crises last for a long time allowing other negative effects to surface, crises tend to last longer and prevent a pick up in growth. The current economic financial crisis was indeed caused by the simultaneous occurrence of events in different parts of the world that all had a negative effect. These events are subtly different and therefore it is common that only one event is held responsible for the crisis. In reality, the world economy became critical due to the mix of four major events: 1) the unrestrained greed of financiers in the U.S. and U.K., which transformed bad mortgages into toxic financial assets 2) the habit of getting deeply indebted in the U.S. and U.K., 3) the excessive liquidity in Europe, 4) the real estate bubble in the U.S. and some European countries (Thomas, 2011) At the beginning of the financial collapse in the United States, many commentators, among which was the President of the Federal Reserve, hastily affirmed that the situation would only affect the United States and at most, the UK, where the banks, ...
