Cloning And Its Implications On Human Cloning
Cloning and Its Sociobiological Implications
Picture this: walking down a street and seeing someone who looks exactly like you. They do the
same things as you, act the same way you do, and are exactly alike in several ways. But have
people ever considered the consequences of human cloning if it becomes permitted? Human cloning
might seem like something out of a science fiction novel, but it may someday be possible with
advances in science and technology. This will result in the creation of several ethical and moral
issues for those in the field of genetics. Cloning of a human is a great accomplishment in itself; in
fact, it can be deemed as an achievement of which people could have only dreamt of in their
dreams. Cloning can be considered a trite in the field of medicine as it has a lot of benefits such as;
curing cancer, reversing heart attack, and curing genetic diseases, etc. Although, potential of
medical accidents in cloning is grossly overstated, the cloning of human beings should not be
prohibited.
The cloning era established its root when a sheep named Dolly was manufactured in 1996. She
was cloned using somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). Since in her case the nucleus was removed
from a mammary gland cell she was named after Dolly Parton (Smith). Even though Dolly s birth
was a milestone in the engineering of animals for food and medicine, many people were disturbed
with the thought of human cloning, hence; religious, political, and scientific leaders condemned

Coast Guard Leadership Case Study
1. With few exceptions, the Coast Guard Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL) Program
lacks professionally skilled leadership coaches. A lack of understanding about what coaching
entails and the vast benefits coaching can provide are the main causes of this shortage. As a result,
our Badge network s ability to support our Coast Guard men and women is limited. The Coast
Guard CSEL Program needs to build coachingthe art of assisting people in enhancing their
effectiveness and get from where they are to where they want to be as a competency within its
ranks. At its core, coaching is a methodology that allows us to work with change, on a personal
level, on an organizational level, and on a relationship level.

One of the primary duties of a CMC is to assist and advise their principals of mission, morale,
and well being impacts of existing or proposed policy changes (Ref. (a)). CMCs strengthen the
chain of command by keeping the command aware of existing or potential problems as well as
procedures and practices which affect the mission, readiness, welfare and morale of the crew.
CMCs are the sounding board for the commanding officer, acting as his or her senior enlisted
advisor. If CMCs developed coaching as a skill, they could step into the role of an executive
coach when needed. Executive coaching helps define vision, increases job satisfaction, and
focuses on goal achievement. Using 360 degree feedback tools, questioning techniques and
coaching skills, CMCs could help their principles improve their leadership abilities, identify and
stay focused on long term goals and improve day to day operations. Once trained, CMCs could use
such models as Kouzes and Posner s Leadership Challenge (Ref. (e)) to help coach their principals
into clarifying and strengthening their leadership philosophies and visions. They could also help
principals interpret performance feedback such as Defense Equal Opportunity Management
Institute (DEOMI) and Organizational Climate Survey (DEOCS) and figure out the next steps to
take toward creating a healthy command climate. CMC coaches could also provide emotional
support for the process of change, bolstering the courage and resolve needed to initiate and

Owen Meany Essay
quot;Watch out for people who call themselves religious; make sure you know what they mean
make sure they know what they mean! quot; (572). In the novel written by John Irving, A
PRAYER FOR OWEN MEANY, the protagonist, Owen Meany, developed an unusual religious
significance. Owen experienced visions of future events, he had a unique type of faith in God that
most do not attain, and Owenspoke endlessly to inform people about God. Throughout Owen s life
he demonstrated the same characteristics as a prophet through his actions and his words. Thus one
could conclude that Owen Meanyis a prophet.

Owen stated in his diary, quot;THE WAY THEY LOOK AT ME, I KNOW TWO THINGS. I
KNOW I SAVED THEM I DON T KNOW HOW. AND I KNOW THAT THEY RE AFRAID

children. He was a prime example of courage and integrity. A prophet uses their prophecies to not
only prove that they have powers, but also to somehow benefit the world or allow people to learn
from their visions. In Owen s case, quot;he had established himself as a prophet... quot; (201). It
was a wonder to John that quot;the changing of the year had so little effect on Owen Meany when
[John] considered that he thought he knew...exactly how many years he had left. Yet he appeared
content... maybe that s what faith is... quot; (358). Was Owen s sole purpose in life only to save
the Vietnamese children? The mind wants to say no because many of us could never comprehend
such a sacrifice.
Owen Meany found strength in his belief that God made him for a special, heroic purpose.
Owen thought he was the reason John s mother was killed. One night, Having gone into her
room, he witnessed an apparition. Owen believed the task of John s mother s death had been
passed to him for he had interrupted the angel of death at her holy work. To imply that this
incident was an accident was to be accused that you lacked faith. In Owen s opinion quot;...he had

National Strategic Guidance And The Global Security...
General Dempsey articulated the United States military is the premier global military with a
decisive military advantage but dominance just doesn t happen necessitating the United States
military to maintain the decisive edge. Dempsey s statement is the catalyst for the premise of Joint
Force 2025 in which the United Statesmilitary embarks upon a transition and rebalance to address
a wide continuum of emerging threats to our nation s national interests in the foreseeable future.
Dempsey correctly states that adaptation and innovation are essential to the Joint Force 2025 as
we have to out learn and out think our adversaries. This essay will recommend general capabilities
of Joint Force 2025 which are necessary to transition and rebalance the force based on strategic
guidance and the global security environment which provides the combatant commander with right
sized capabilities in support of the nation s strategic interests. Utilization of national strategic
guidance will lay the foundation for the assessment of each service s general capabilities in
support of Joint Force 2025 while also appraising riskimplications in the foreseeable global security
environment.
The 2014 Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) clearly states the path forward for the United States
military consists of adaption, reshaping and rebalancing the force in a fiscally constrained
environment while actively defending the homeland, building security globally and projecting
power and winning decisively.

Plain English Movement
Problem Solved? Or A Scratch on the Surface?
Brief analysis on Plain English Movement
Writing, generally speaking, ought to be an instrument for conveying ideas from one mind to an
other efficiently. Conventional legal composition, on the contrary, appears to be overwhelmingly
complicated to the public.
Occurring and then prevailing since the 1970s, the well known Plain English Movement (we mainly
cope with the movement in the USA) seems to have offered a commonly welcomed solution to this
problem. However, disputes still remain in the legal academia in regard to the actual efficiency of
the Movement.
This essay attempts to analyze the causes of the Movement as well as its implications from both
positive and negative perspectives, in hope ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Plain English Movement, while achieving in making legal documents shorter and spreading a
new draft ing system throughout the world, is not effective as expected. The linguistic shortcoming
makes it impossible for Plain English to be compatible with the logic of law. This essay is not
arguing that Plain English movement is bad, but merely analyses its defects at present. The idea
behind the Plain English Movement is highly endorsed owing to its effort to enhance public
understanding of legal documents.

The Role Of Objective Structured Clinical Examination
Introduction Assessment plays important role in medical education and training of doctors.
Assessment methods have evolved over the last decade from written tests towards a holistic
system of evaluation (Howley, 2004). New methods of assessment tools have emerged with
emphasis based on real world testing. Medical education and assessment has shifted towards
competency based training (PMETB, 2008). OSCE has been widely used as an assessment tool
worldwide in both undergraduate and postgraduate exams including medicine and allied health
specialities (Patricio M, 2013). In this assignment I have reviewed the role of Objective
Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) as an assessment tool in the MRCS exam as an
MRCS examiner in relation to the literature. Background Millers pyramid of educational
objectives (Miller 1990) and Bloom s cognitive taxonomy (Bloom, 1956) formed the pillar of
medical education in the 1990 s. Miller (1990) introduced his pyramid of educational objectives
consisting of four levels: Lowest level of pyramid is knowledge (Knows), ascending up is
competence (knows how), performance (shows how), action (does) . Knows represents the basic
facts, knows how to apply knowledge, shows how demonstration of skills and does competent real
life practice. The four level of the pyramid reflects the level of knowledge and competence on which
all the assessment methods of today are based on thus constituting the basement framework of
education and assessment. The

Equipment Depreciation
Purchasing equipment is one of the biggest expenses that small businesses and start ups face. The
IRS allows you deduct most or all of these expenses. This in turn helps you recoup the cost
associated with running your business. Moreover, by taking this deduction when you prepare your
tax return, it lowers your overall taxbill. In some cases, especially for small businesses, the
deductions could result in a refund.
There are different ways to expense business equipment when filing taxes, which can often lead to
confusion. If you re unsure how the deductions will affect your business, hiring a tax accountant is
a good idea. Mistakes or miscalculations when filing your tax return could trigger an IRS audit. A
professional can lessen the stress and time constraints during the tax preparation season.

For instance, furniture, office equipment, vehicles, computers, business software, and machinery
would all fall under equipment depreciation. These tangible items for your business are considered
capital assets since they are used to make a profit.
Understanding Section 179 Deduction
Under Section 179, the IRS allows you to deduct the full price of the equipment you purchased or
leased during the year. By taking this deduction, you are essentially deducting the full cost of the
equipment from your company s gross income.
Your company must have a taxable income before you can use the 179 deduction. Additionally,
there is a cap on the deduction set at $500,000 that you can claim. There is also a maximum of
$2,010,000 for business equipment expenses during the year that Section 179 is claimed. Most
small business will not spend this amount on equipment during the early years of being in business,
which is why this deduction is so valuable.

Mary Anne Belle Character Analysis
The novel s incorporation of both direct and indirect characterization allows O Brien to portray
characters in many ways, which gives the reader a more well rounded and in depth depiction of
them. Throughout the novel, O Brien chooses the type of characterization to use depending on
which fits the purpose of the characterization better. One instance of O Brien s deliberate choice in
characterization method is in his depiction of Mary Ann Belle. Before her transition, Mary Ann is
primarily depicted using direct characterization: Though she was young, Rat said, Mary Anne Bell
was no timid child. She was curious about things (91). At first, O Brien chooses to use direct
characterization to describe Mary Anne since he wants to give the reader

The Effects Of History And Social Structures On Our Lives...
Experiences play a vital role on who we are as a person, more importantly the memories that we
ve had as children stick with us for the rest of our lives. They help structure and model us into a
person that will eventually do extraordinary things that will affect others around us. In first world
countries most experiences as a child are generally the same for everyone because they live in a
safe shielded environment that protects them anything bad that could happen but, children growing
up in third worldcountries face horrible experiences that can cost them their lives but they believe
is the norm. Through my primary research I have discovered that history and social structures
have had a great impact on my personal life than ever imagined having to growing up in a third
world country. After developing my secondary research, the information I collected is proof of
events that have ultimately lead to factors of my development from an infant to who I am as a
person today. Throughout my life there were different historical events occurring at the time in my
home country and my future country that unfolded to shape and model my life to make me the
person that I am today. I am able to identify specific events that separately correspond to the process
of coming to Canada before while residing in my home country, during the immigrationprocess to
come here, and after arriving in Canada. In this essay I will be talking about how these historical
events and social structures shaped

Homeschooling Flaws
Many public schools risk the safety of students. The Justice Department s Bureau of Justice
Statistics and the Department of Education s National Center for Education Statistics show that in
2012, there were about 749,200 violent assaults on students. In the 2011 2012 academic year, there
was a record of 209,800 public schoolteachers who reported being physically attacked by a
student. World wide, an average of 1,175 teachers and staff were physically attacked each day of
that school year. Every year, about 10 percent of primary and secondary school teachers are
threatened with bodily harm. With these positive statistics, I would not know why a parent would
second guess their choice of enrolling their children in public school.

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin ( Hcg )
The placenta is an internal organ that grows during pregnancy, in normal cases it is attached to the
lining of the stomach all through out pregnancy. It is an endocrine organ that only grows during
pregnancy and provides the unborn child blood supply of its own apart from the mothers. The
blood supply and nutrients are transferred via the umbilical cord to the child, it is responsible for
keeping the baby healthy while inside the womb. The organ works like a regular cycle, it washes
the nutrients and oxygen that travels from the mother s body to the placentaand through the
umbilical cord to the fetus. The fetus then disposes the waste products, such as carbon dioxide, back
to the placenta where the mother uses bodily functions to dispose of them, it also contains
hormones that help the unborn child cultivate and mature.
The placenta produces hormones like Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG), which is presented
after the egg has been fertilized. Also, it produces Progesterone, which is important for the lining
of the uterus to stay healthy, strong and to maintain the stability of the baby and the placenta. If
progesterone levels produced by the placenta are decreased or lower, it can be possible the
pregnancy might terminate itself. Another hormone the placenta produces is estrogen, which for
pregnancy helps the mother produce milk and lactation for the child during the pregnancy and
beneficial for the child after birth. Other hormones that might be produced in the placenta

In my experience, holding these animals are not a challenge, making them easy to hand train by
holding them three times a week for a few minutes at a time. They do, however have the
tendency to leap like frogs so I would recommend letting them leap from hand to hand. The
benefit of owning an animal of this size is also the enclosure they are kept in. According to De
vosjoli, Fast, and Repashy (2003) Baby crested geckos can be kept in small plastic keepers until
they reach juvenile size, which is about five inches (p. 19). I recently purchased a juvenile
crested gecko, and its habitat is a medium sized terrarium, where it will live throughout its life
span. In observing my daughters interaction with her crested gecko, it is clear that he is a
manageable size and is not skirmish giving her an enjoyable experience with her new pet. While
the crested gecko s size makes them easy to handle, the care for crested geckos becomes easier and
less expensive with little or no special lighting and heating needed.
Heating and lighting are not necessary for crested geckos, keeping the cost of the supplies down,

Essay on The Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima
In The Sound of Waves, Yukio Mishima creates an exquisite story which has strong idealistic and
mythic features. Although Mishima writes of young love and tranquility in The Sound of Waves,
his later works are categorized as aggressive and containing violent sexual actions. Even Mishima
himself referred to The Sound of Waves as that great joke on the public (qtd. in Ishiguro 385).
However, one cannot compare this novel to Mishima s other literary pieces; in order to classify it as
romanticized, one must evaluate the usage of imagery, an idealized setting, mythical allusions, and
characterizations which establish the romantic driven qualities in The Sound of Waves. It is

Mythical allusions described by Mishima serve to highlight the other qualities within The Sound
of Waves. When Shinji first catches sight of Hatsue, she is letting her hair stream and her cheeks
glow (7). These characteristics are shown many times throughout the novel and resemble Vergil s
depictions of goddesses such as Venus and Juno in the Aeneid. One conflict that Hatsue must
overcome is when Yasuo attempts to rape her; his plot was obstructed by the intervention of a
furious hornet. Hatsue sees the flashing of the little golden colored wings and wonders what god
it [is] who [has] come to her rescue. (93).The interference of the hornet seems far fetched, for most
would think that the hornet would not only attack Yasuo, but also Hatsue. In this case, Mishima
created an idealized situation were nature as saved Hatsue from the immoral actions of Yasuo. The
setting of the island Uta jima is idealized, which creates a place where the romance between
Hatsue and Shinji can seem realistic. The reader begins the novel with a description of this island
and two spots with surpassingly beautiful views. (3).After this, the reader is introduced to a young
man, Shinji, climbing up the stairs of the lighthouse. Mishima depicts this area as one of the most
beautiful views on the island. The

Injury In Baseball
Healing the Injuries that Happen in Baseball For baseball players, it is essential to stay healthy.
One of the reasons a player tends to focus on healing his body is that if a player sits out injured
for too long, he may lose his starting position. Though this is always in the forefront of a player s
mind, the first thing he should think about is healing his body so that he can continue his career.
The most common injury to baseball players is tennis elbow . Other injuries baseball players deal

The Last Duel by Eric Jager Essay
Story of the duel to end all duels
In the story The Last Duel by Eric Jager, fourteenth century in medieval France, a knight by the
name of Jean de Carrouges challenges a squire, Jacques Le Gris, to a duel. The reason for this
trial by combat, a court ordered duel intended by fate of God to determine the truth, was to seek
vengeance for the sake of his own honor. The wife of Jean Carrouges was the young, beautiful,
good, sensible, and modest Marguerite. She was expected to maintain a ladylike mannerism and
remain loyal to her husband. When the couple traveled to Capomensil to visit Carrouges mother in

summoned after he learned of Carrouges plan to visit Paris. Louvel served under Carrouges in
the Cotentin campaign and actually knew him well. Ironically Louvel had a house in
Capomesnil, where Marguerite was staying with her mother in law. It is very possible that
since Le Gris knew Carrouges was leaving on a journey he could have traveled to Capomesnil
and stayed with Louvel until his opportunity arose when Nicole de Carrouges left the house for a
short amount of time to handle business in Saint Pierre. This is where my suspicions of Le Gris
having everything planned grew because he must have known Nicole was called away to a town
six miles away, and accordingly planned and timed when he would enter the home, how long it
would take to complete the brutal attack, and enough time to leave and form an alibi.
Jacques Le Gris was established as a man who was known for seducing women. It was rumored
his approach to Marguerite was an offer of money for sex, but she did not care for his money and
wouldn t submit herself to his will . This is when the encounter became physical because Le Gris
was going to get what he wanted wether she liked it or not. For a woman, Marguerite fought long

Internartional Business (7 Eleven in Vietnam)
International Business
Executive Summary
International business consists of business transaction between parties from more than one country.
Examples of international business transactions include buying materials in one country and
shipping them to another for processing or assembly, shipping finished products from one country

borrowing money from a bank in one country to finance operations in another.

In my opinion, the suitable country to locate the new 7 Eleven is Vietnam because 7 Eleven is the
convenient store which there is everything selling. Just go inside and you will get everything you
want.
Vietnam is officially the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, is the easternmost country on the Indochina
Peninsula in Southeast Asia. It is bordered by China to the north, Laos to the northwest, Cambodia
to the southwest, and the South China Sea to the east. With population of over 85 million. Vietnam
is the 13th most populous country in the world.
Vietnam is the developing country; they are willing to accept the new things such as technology,
products, people, etc. from outsiders. Now there are many foreign investors invest in Vietnam,
because the factors in Vietnam are reasonable.
So 7 Eleven store in Vietnam will be the good idea. That will be convenient for their people and
because of it is open 24 hours daily, so anytime, people can go and buy no need to rush or hurry to
go to 7 Eleven stores.

Different Kinds Of Coaching Styles
When coaching, is it better to be all bark and no bite, all bite and no bark, or a little bit of both?
Over his 17 year span of life, Robert has experienced all different kinds of coaching styles. Every

The coach will embarrass players in front of the whole team by yelling out what they re doing

play football the coaches wouldn t direct much aggressiveness to him since he was only the
kicker and he knew his assignment, but he experienced it among the rest of the team. On his
walk from the soccer to the football field, which is on opposite sides of the school, he could hear
the coaches screaming at the players the whole way. They demand the best out of each player,

The players usually trust and respect the coach more, and will do what is asked of them solely

Social Determinants of Childhood Obesity Essay example
Childhood obesity fast becoming a worldwide epidemic, and according to the Bureau of
Statistics (cited in Browne 2012, p.20), 23 per cent of children are overweight or obese in
Australia. Browne (2012, p.20) suggests that by children being weighed regularly by their doctor,
just as they were when they were babies and toddlers, it will help doctors and parents to closely
monitor their weight. Although obesity is caused by an imbalance of the calories consumed with
the output of energy through metabolism and exercise (O Gorman et al., 2011; Wang, 2008), the
reason/s for this imbalance can arise from several of the 10 social determinants (the social gradient,
stress, early life, social exclusion, work, unemployment, social support, addiction,... Show more

It was recommended that infants be breastfed exclusively for at least 6 months as this reduces
the risk for obesity, furthermore, there is evidence that shows that for every month of
breastfeeding, the child s risk of becoming overweight reduces by 4 per cent. In similar studies,
it is recommended that introduction to solid foods be delayed until at least 4 months, however,
6 months is preferred, this significantly reduces the risk for obesity. The average age of
introduction to solid food was 20.49 weeks, which resulted in a healthy BMI at aged 10 years
old, and 18.67 weeks resulted in a higher BMI at aged 10 years old. A good start in early life
means supporting mothers and young children: the health impact of early development and
education lasts a lifetime (Wilkinson Marmot 2003, p. 14). It has been strongly proven that
families confined to the poor social gradient, or from low socio economic status are highly
disadvantaged, which is definitely the case when it comes to childhood obesity. Children who
come from a low socio economic status have a greater likelihood of becoming overweight or
obese because their family have restricted access to everyday resources. Children from low socio
economic status are eating high energy dense, high fat foods because their parents cannot afford to
buy fresh fruit and vegetables, or, it is simply not practical, especially to families who do their

Essay on Examining a Business Failure
Examining a Business Failure: Tyco International Ltd. В®
LDR 531
August 23, 2010
Examining a Business Failure: Tyco International Ltd. В® Many have heard the proverb, A chain
is only as strong as its weakest link. This can be directly applied to business organizations through
analysis of the three strongest and/or weakest links: managers, leaders and the organizational
structure. These three areas provide the central core to any organization and are often linked to
dramatic failures and consequences when weaknesses arise. In this paper, the student will discuss
the 2002 failure of Tyco International Ltd. В® (Tyco) in which the Securities and Exchange

While this was only one of many claims held by the SEC, it shows the fraudulent nature of the
accusations. Additionally, the SEC pursued harsh consequences for the crimes as a means to offer
restitution to all investors damaged by the executive s actions (U.S. Securities and Exchange
Commission, 2010).
Managers and Leaders While it is difficult to offer a specific definition of a manager and leader, the
type of control used to manage/persuade employees can offer a clear distinction. A manager often
uses a bureaucratic, authoritative style, and a leader most often relies on charisma and influence to
achieve goals. Neither style is better than the other; however, one may achieve greater results
dependent upon the situation. According to Yuki, within the managementatmosphere, many
decision processes are disorderly and political (2006, p. 26). In the case with Tyco, many actions
completed by the accounting department were highly political, being based upon information
directly from the CEO. During the legal investigation, the SEC found that no employees (with the
exception of those specifically named in the lawsuit) were found in violation of any law. The SEC

What Is Bouguereau s Depiction Of The Young Shepherdess
The Young Shepherdess was painted in 1885 by William Adolphe Bouguereau on a 62 by 28
and a half inch canvas with oil paint, and is currently owned by the San Diego Museum of Art,
given as a gift to the museum in 1968 by Mr. and Mrs. Edwin S. Larsen ( The Young
Shepherdess , 2014). The painting depicts a young woman tending to her flock of sheep. The
young woman in this painting appears to be a typical youth, she is assigned what are most likely
her chores for the day, to watch over this flock of sheep while they graze. Her body faces her
flock of sheep, but her head turns to face the viewer. She seems to be distracted, she is looking
away from the flock, almost appearing to gaze at the painting s viewer, but simultaneously looking

He demonstrated artistic talent as a youth, and was allowed to attend the drawing school of M.
Alaux. At this school, His fellow pupils, almost without exception, intended to be artists, and felt
a contempt for Bouguereau on account of his business occupations; thus, when at the end of the
year he took the prize for which all had striven, the excitement was so great that a riot occurred,
and the pupils made a formal protest against his receiving it, but without effect. (Erskine
Clement, 79 80). This type of reaction to Bouguereau s success became quite typical within the
art community. The impressionist and realist painters of his era despised his rigidly academic
style, and commercial incentives. He was paid top dollar for his works, and even though he had
great passion for his work, he realized that in order to succeed financially, his subjects must reflect
the tastes of the market. This is perhaps one of the most intriguing things about Bouguereau, that
despite the fact that his works were often commissioned, and that he was expected to paint certain
subjects, his work still showcased a remarkable amount of passion and energy. The most
successful period of his career was after his return to France in 1854, where he became an
immensely successful and influential exponent of academic art, upholding traditional values and
contriving to exclude avant garde work from the Salon (Chilvers, 68). This is the period in

Langston Hughes Harlem
Harlem by Langston Hughes embodies the thoughts and feelings of a historic time period. A
surge of artistic expression among African Americans led the way to a movement that is now
known as the Harlem Renaissance. Creative works depicting the social forecast of the day began
to emerge. Harlem was written during this fascinating time and flawlessly incorporates this
renaissance thinking into each line. In essence, the poem conveys a sense of grievance, yet also
provides a hope to break the bonds that hinder the black community. By using a varying meter and
rhyme scheme and also employing the use of simile and repetition, Hughes expertly portrays the
attitudes of an entire social class. Harlem has no specifically consistent meter or rhyme... Show

The words does, like, and or are repeated consistently. This allows the reader to acknowledge the
structure of each stanza but contributes to the audience s awareness of the subject of the poem
(a dream deferred) as well. It is also important to note alliteration found in some of the lines. In
the first two lines, Hughes uses an alliterating d and then an alliterating s in lines three through
four and six through nine. This draws attention to repetition and also adds to the cohesiveness of
the poem. By far, the most obvious and significant aspect of Harlem can be found by the
implantation of similes. Each simile used is imperative to understanding the true meaning behind
the postponed or ended dream that Hughes references. Hughes implies that many obstacles and
challenges exist which can defer a dream. For one, it may dry up like a raisin in the sun. Perhaps
a dream can lose its livelihood and dry up to be soon forgotten. A dream can also fester like a sore
and then run. The lines imply that a denied dream may constantly be on the mind and be a very
uncomfortable subject. Hughes writes a dream can stink like rotten meat, which suggests a

Cheerleading Injuries
According to Dictionary.com, the definition of sport is an athletic activity that requires physical
prowess or skill and often a competitive nature; so by that definition, cheerleading is a sport
(Popoloski). Cheerleading is defined as a sport because it meets the requirements of a sport:
competitive physical exertion and chance of injury.
Due to the fact that cheerleaders can become greatly injured from cheerleading like other athletic
activities that are said to be sports proves that cheerleading is a sport (Tanner). Injuries can be
caused by a variety of things such as, tumbling, flyers and bases hitting the ground after
performing a risky stunt and even people colliding. USA Today states that The American Medical
Association says cheerleading should be considered a sport because of its rigors and risks
(Tanner). Since a medical association is stating how dangerous and rigorous cheerleading is, their
belief on whether or not cheer should be considered a sport is very credible. AMA continues to
support its claim that cheerleading should be a sport by stating other facts. Also, the National
Center for Catastrophic Sport Injury Research said that cheerleading is actually the number one
cause of serious sports injuries to women ( TeenInk ). Statistically speaking the National Center for

(1) They seek to win elections or electoral positions; (2) they reorganize around those periodic

who support political candidates but not necessarily the party organization. Interest groups are more
issue oriented, are continuously maintained, and are dependent on supporters who identify with
their organization. (Browne, n.d.) One thing that differentiates political parties from interest groups
arises from the nature of the political system in which they operate and from the various electoral
rules and structures that exist in different countries. In corporatist societies, interest groups may be
invited to participate in government decisions to the exclusion of competitor interests. In
parliamentary system, a party may have a narrow base and may try to win only a small number of
legislative seats. (Browne, n.d.)
Explain how interest groups try to influence the president and Congress as these two branches work
together to make policy. Trying to persuade government officials through direct inside contact is
called the inside game. Lobbying is another term for inside game. Lobbyists normally work for a
specific interest group, corporation, or law firm that specializes in professional lobbying. (Interest

The Castle of Otranto Northanger Abbey Comparison paper.

The Castle of Otranto Northanger Abbey The Castle of Otranto was written in 1764, by Horace

and explain how Gothic it is. I will be picking a specific character to explain and compare to

In this novel Otranto , Manfred has a son that gets killed and no one knows how or why. His son
is to be married to Isabella, but things go a different direction when she finds out that Manfred
wants to marry her now. When Manfred pursues Isabella in a sexually way, his demand for a
divorce from his wife Hippolita seems unreal, due to the incestuous nature of both relationships.
Manfred s logic seems to be lost and his justification, and his reasoning for his actions makes
very little sense. What makes this Gothic is, this is a dark way of living, and how evil it is to
live this way. From the novel Northanger Abbey , General Tilney is accurately, if
understandingly, described by Mrs. Morland as a strange man (Austen 29). In this story there is
a character named Catherine Morland who is a tom boy, that is a girl that is becoming a
woman. As she is becoming a woman, she is pulled between both boys and playing sports, like
Cricket. Her mother and father send her off to an upper class resort to meet young men. There
she encounters a man named Henry and she falls in love with him. General Tilney is a man who
runs a very strict household, despite his actions to appear laid back to Catherine. General Tilney
is a stickler for people being on time. He is always getting angry at people for disrupting his
schedule or his sense of integrity and discipline. General Tilney is a jerk to his kids, and is known

Women in William Shakespeare’s Plays Essay
Shakespeare and the members of the Elizabethan era would be appalled at the freedoms women
experience today. The docility of Elizabethan women is almost a forgotten way of life. What we
see throughout Shakespeare s plays is an insight into the female character as perceived by
Elizabethan culture. Shakespeares female characters reflect the Elizabethan era s image of women;
they were to be virtuousand obedient and those that were not were portrayed as undesirable and

Shakespeare also plays with the role of strong women as undesirable, even evil. As we see
throughout many of his plays it is common in Shakespeare s plays... for the good characters to
easily fall victim to their evil counterparts (Peterson 12). This is particularly true of Cordelia and
King Lear in the play, King Lear, as both become victims of Regan s and Goneril s plotting

Shakespeare (Peterson 8).
In Elizabethan life a dominant woman was unnatural, a symptom of disorder (Order in the sexes

evil. Regan and Goneril, who begin the play with false declarations of love for their father, soon
become dominant women who show little regard for the values of their society (Shakespeare
I.ii.54 61, 69 76). Regan, in particular, becomes a target. [Lear] notes that humanity is in danger
because of people like her (Peterson 22). Even Albany, Regan s husband, is appalled at what his

Notes On Purchasing Power Parity
Purchasing power Parity (PPP), is a theory stating that the unit of one currency should have the
same purchasing power as the foreign currency. Following the theory, where the normal exchange
rate between two currencies should be the same as the ratio of aggregate price level between them.
It can be also called inflationtheory of exchange rates as it stands for the theory of a change of
price level where as the overriding determinant of exchange ratemovements. It is the same status
as Quantity theory of money(QT). To make things clear, the dogma of PPP or its alternative
Law of one Price (LOOP), states that when goods in the basket expressed in a single currency
meaning that they cost the same in all countries. This can be achieved only if the rate or nominal
exchange rate is equal to the differences between growth rate. The dental of LOP context is to
find the most disaggregate product and price can be readily material provides as strong
presumption that it is impossible to assemble available date into aggregate price index which can

Essay On The Things They Carried
The Things They Carried provides a personal view into the minds of soldiers, and tells us the
emotional and psychological costs of war. First Lieutenant Jimmy Cross is stationed in Vietnam
in the middle of the war. He seems to be a man in love, or more like a man in love with the idea
of a lady named Martha. He ends up changing from a love struck, blind man into a firm, leading
soldier. In this story, the characters do the things they do because of desires and motivations. In The
Things They Carry, Tim O Brien underlines the setting, items that characters humped (O Brien,
2009, pg. 3) or carried, and the characters themselves to set the theme. The story takes place during
the VietnamWar, during what was supposed to be a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(O Brien, 1990) In addition, all the men had steel helmets that weighed five pounds each. Tim O
Brien also includes the items and weight that each of the other soldiers in Jimmy Cross s platoon
carries. Rat Kiley s canvas satchel filled with morphine and plasma and malaria tablets and
surgical tape and comic books and all the things a medic must carry, including M M s for
especially bad wounds for a total weight of nearly eighteen pounds. (O Brien, 2009, pg. 5)
Henry Dobbins carries a twenty three pound unloaded M 60 with approximately fifteen pounds
of ammunition draped on his body. Henry Dobbins also carried his girlfriend s pantyhose
wrapped around his neck as a comforter. (O Brien, 1990) Mitchell Sanders carried the Kiowa, an
illustrated New Testament and condoms. Norman Bowker carried a diary. Ted Lavender carried
six or seven ounces of top notch dope. Ted Lavender also carried tranquilizers and extra
ammunition because he was scared . (O Brien, 1990) All men have to carry a steel centered,
nylon covered flak jacket, which weighed 6.7 pounds, but which on hot days seemed much
heavier . (O Brien, 2009, pg. 3) Psychological burdens of war were just as real as the physical
burdens of the soldiers. Those who were blessed enough to survive the war, struggle with
confusion, anger, guilt, and lack of resolution. They all carry ghosts , (O Brien, 1990) created by
the fickleness of war including the burden of

Military Generals And General Douglas Macarthur
In United States history, there is a long list of premiere military Generals and General Douglas
MacArthur was on top. Even as professors and historians scrutinize his failures, MacArthur has not
only preserved his reputation, but also maintained one. General Arthur MacArthur, Douglas father,
famously told him, there are times when a truly remarkable solider must resort to unorthodox
behavior, disobeying his superiors to gain the greater glory (American Caesar). Douglas took his
father s advice to heart and many times entrenched his prominence on disobeying direct orders.
However, by defying orders it made MacArthur a famous, but controversial figure. His defiance
proceeded him during his enrollment at West Point, one of the best... Show more content on

Therefore, he gave the names of cadets who had already confessed or pleaded guilty and
declined to identify the names ordered of him. This demonstrated the insubordination of his
defiant nature which would later bring him up through the ranks and achieve fame. Weeks later
MacArthur would grab the attention again by defying the orders of a lieutenant, his math
teacher. MacArthur fell ill often, missing tests. Usually, students will go under a special
program called goats to receive special testing. Douglas made this list but his scores on the
regular tests were so high that he already had a passing grade and went to see the instructor.
There he threatened to resign from West Point stating, I know it is an order but it is an
unreasonable one. If my name is not removed from that list by nine o clock tomorrow morning I
will resign. Normally, the cadet would be punished or expelled for threatening the instructor, but
MacArthur had a strong political and military background as his father received the Medal of
Honor on multiple occasions, also reaching the rank of General, and his grandfather acted as a
judge of the Supreme Court. Because of his families successful background MacArthur showed
much promise with his intellect and the instructor removed his name. MacArthur had a very
successful career in West Point as he later went on to receive the highest rank available to him, First
Captain. Since Macarthur flirted with rules and often contravene direct

Joel Feinberg Psychological Egoism Analysis
Psychological egoism is the interpretation that humans are always inspired by self interest, even in
what seem to be acts of altruism. It claims that, when people choose to help others, they do so
ultimately because of the personal benefits that they themselves expect to obtain, directly or
indirectly, from doing so. Psychological egoism, which was widely recognized by psychologists and
philosophers states that all human actions are motivated by selfish needs to benefit themselves.
According to psychological egoists true altruismdoes not exist because the consequence of such an
act leads to an increase in personal happiness. However, Joel Feinberg does not agree with that
theory and in his essay he disagreed with the thesis that altruism... Show more content on

He would have explained to me that even though some philosopher could argue that all of our
acts are considered as selfish since the main source of our action is us therefore it does make
sense that our only motif is to obtain pleasure for ourselves. As mentioned in the Internet
Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Psychological egoists cannot establish their view simply by
pointing to the pleasure or self benefit that accompanies so many actions. After all, often self
benefit only seems to be what we ultimately desire, though a closer look reveals benefits like
pleasure are likely just byproducts while the proximate desire is for that which generates them (
Psychological Egoism). Joel Feinberg would explain that the acts that are generated to help
others even though we can receive pleasure for acting such way could be and should be
considered as an altruistic act. Pleasure can be a byproduct of a good deed but what matters is what
generated the good deed and if it s for a good reason and to help others it should be considered as
an altruistic

The changing NHS: what does this mean for teachers and learners? In the Theory and Practice
paper you looked at some of key learning theories and how these might be used in clinical teaching.
There have been some huge shifts in recent years in the NHS and Higher Education which have
changed the cultures of both. Without going into long sociological explanations, it is useful just to
think of some of the key changes and look at how these have impacted on the role of and
expectations from clinical teachers. Since the late 1990s, when national initiatives to reform
undergraduate and postgraduate medical education were introduced, medical education (which
includes clinical training) has gradually placed greater expectations and more responsibilities on
clinical teachers. The Department of Health initiative UMCISS (Undergraduate Medical
Curriculum Implementation Support Scheme) which supported the reform of all undergraduate
curricula in response to Tomorrow s Doctors (GMC, 1993) had a huge impact on undergraduate
medical education. New teaching and learning methods were introduced into courses such as
problem based learning, video teaching and web based learning and the courses themselves
became less informal and more structured in terms of design, delivery and evaluation. Courses
were expected to clearly define aims and learning outcomes, modes of delivery and assessment and

My Experience At Bmw s Playground Essay
This summer we had the chance to spend some time in Europe. One of our stopping points was
Munich. Needless to say we relished in the opportunity to play in BMW s playground. As you
will read below, we are massive car enthusiasts, so you can imagine our excitement in visiting
BMW s heartland! We were like kids in a candy shop ogling and drooling at the new toys, new
cars, and the latest and greatest.
For those that don t know, let me give you a brief history lesson on both myself and Chris. I have
ALWAYS had a passion for cars. There is just something so sexy about cars, the lines, the power,
the way they make you feel...if you are a car person, you know what I mean and how I am
feeling even typing this. Let s put it this way, when my family went to buy a car, they took me,
the little cute little blonde versus one of my 3 brothers. I knew more about the cars than the sales
person. Chris has been around the car world his entire life. His father had a dealership, and Chris
followed suit. He worked at a Ford dealership; then shortly was recruited to run a Cadillac store.
From there, he was once again pursued open and own his own Infiniti dealership. Pretty much, we
love nice luxurious cars!
As I stated in our very 1st meeting, I NEVER want anyone to be that person that is simply
nodding along and having absolutely no idea what is going on and all kinds of confused, I want to
start with the basics of BMW and then dive into why they are so successful. I think we all can

Reflection On Personal Conflict
Oxford defines Conflict as a serious disagreement or argument, typically a protracted one.
The most recent conflict I had encountered was one that is related to my work. I currently work
at an IT company in Israel as an Office Manager. I have been working here for about two and a
half years and am pretty content with the job as I know all the loops and holes of the daily tasks
that need to be done. Recently, I have received an offer from another IT company, that would like
to meet with me and offer me a job at their company. I went to an interview with this other
company and a day later they told me that they were interested and would like to continue the hiring
process with me.
That s when my personal conflict started. I had been working in a place that I liked not for over
two years, with nice conditions and friendly co workers. On the other hand, this other job is
offering me a higher salary than what I am making now, while my current job place has never
offered to give me a raise of any kind although I have been in situations in the company where I
had to take on additional tasks that were originally outside of my job description.
I will use the Ladder of Inference to try and understand my conflict and hopefully be able to decide
where it would be better for me to be in terms of a job place.
The ladder consists of seven steps: Reality and Facts, Selected Reality, Interpreted Reality,
Assumptions, Conclusions, Beliefs, Actions.

Elapsed Time In The Classroom
The math lesson that my practicum partner and I performed in our classroom was a review of
elapsed time. The topic of our lesson was telling and writing time to the nearest minute and to
solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes. The concept
of elapsed time is actually a relatively hard topic, especially at eight years old and having
remembering it after returning from spring break with pre PARCC anxiety. That being said, this
review was beneficial for the class. We began our lesson by facilitating a carpet discussion about the
different strategies that students prefer to figure out how much timehas passed between events. I
was very satisfied with how the discussion went, the class that I am placed in loves carpet

I was happy with the pair sharing because the students can explain ideas in ways that I may have
never considered, and their explanation may help other students understanding. In addition, there is
a great sense of classroom community discourse that occurs with this specific class, their level of
respect for each other is incredible. Our lesson activity had the students rotating around the room
and performing different word problems for about 4 minutes at each station. I think the students
liked that they were able to move around. Also the amount of time we gave them was challenging
and fun, without making it too intense like a drill. When we went over the answers to the
problems we had students come demonstrate how they got their answer on the whiteboard and
discuss why they chose the method/strategy they did, which was good because some other
students were able to observe and learn. My main regret from this lesson is having the activity
answers discussed and displayed with students at their desks and not the carpet. With this specific
group they are so much more engaged when they sit at the

Frederick Douglass Slave Narrative
Frederick Douglas, born Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey, was born into slavery in the
year 1818 on Maryland s Eastern Shore. He was separated from his mother at a really young age.
He lived as a slave for 20 years before he became a free man. Along the way, he managed to learn
how to read and write. In 1845, Douglas published his autobiography The Narrative of the Life
of Frederick Douglas, an American Slave. In the novel, he writes down everything he
experienced from the time he was a little baby to the time he became a free black man living in
New Bedford, Massachusetts. The genre of Douglas s autobiography is a slave narrative and as a
slave narrative, this novel is great at accomplishing the main purposes that the genre typically

would whip upon her naked back until she was covered in blood (Douglas, 17). It was horrifying
for Frederick to hear the agonizing screams of his fellow slaves being whipped every night. When
he got older, he moved to Baltimore to live with his new master, Mr. Auld. While he was there, he
was subjected to see his master tie up a lame young woman, and whip her with a heavy cowskin
(Douglas, 57). This horrific punishment would last four to five hours. Many of the slaves were

Septic System Research Paper
There a number of myths surrounding things you can add to your septic system, additives that
will supposedly allow you to go longer between pump outs, or inspections. While some of these
may help slightly, none should take the place of a regular inspection by a certified septic service.
Fact of the matter is, most of these additives and quick fixes do little to help your septic system and
some actually can make matters worse. Here are three of the most common myths and why you
should avoid using them.
Extra Bacteria
Every time you flush your toilet you add enough good bacteria to keep your septic tank
functioning properly. There is simply no need to spend your money to buy bacteria to add to your
septic system. When there is an overabundance of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yeast
Pouring yeast into your septic system is another myth that has little or no practical benefit. While
some bacteria will feed on the yeast, it does nothing to promote good bacteria in your septic tank.
Think about how adding one cup of salt to the ocean would make the water saltier. This is about
the same analogy as adding the recommended amount of yeast to your sewer system. So, Adding
yeast to your septic tank is basically a waste of your time, effort and money.
Baking Soda
The usefulness of baking soda added to homemade cleaning solutions is another one of the septic
tank myths that has ballooned out of proportion. True enough, mixing a little baking soda in
chlorine based cleaners can help reduce the adverse affects these harsh chemicals have on the good
bacteria in your septic tank, but simply adding baking soda all by itself, will do absolutely nothing.
Besides the three mythical cures just mentioned, septic professionals do not recommend adding
anything to your septic system. Additives are not necessary for the proper operation of your septic

The Warming Of Global Climate Change
Global climate change is going to change with or without the help of humans because we have to
use fossil fuels to survive. Global Climate change is the warming of the average temperature On
Earth s surface, caused mainly by the increased concentration of Greenhouse Gases in the
atmosphere causing weather patterns to change. Man made gases are not the only contributing
factor to Global Climatechange because such things as sunspots eating at the atmospheric layers,
causing more radiation to come through, increased water vapor due to Carbon Dioxide induced
warming as indicated by NASA, and Permafrost, which is solid, frozen soil which constitutes about
25% of land area in the Northern Hemisphere.
Sunspots form On the sun s surface due to strong magnetic field lines coming up within the sun
trough, solar surface, and are visible as dark spots compared to surrounding. Sunspots are generally
bigger than the Earth and are always dark and much cooler than it s surroundings. Large sunspots
can have a temperature of 3700 degrees Celsius, which isn t much compared to the temperature of
the photosphere of the sun which is about 5500 degrees Celsius. Sunspots are a very common sight
during the solar maximum; Solar maximum is the period of greatest solar activity which lasts about
eleven years (SpaceWeatherLive.com. 2015).
Sunspots occur because the sun isn t a rock like Earth and the inner planets. The sun is a ball of

The Use of the Submarine During the American Civil War
I have always been an American history buff. I was aware that the first use of the Submarine
during war was during the American Civil War. Since learning this fact, I had become, in a sense,
amazed with submarines thus, I have become rather interested in them. I found this paper as a good
chance to learn more, a lot more, about early submarines and the evolution of them.
With the ability to sink both large and small warships with the same percent chance, the value of the
submarine is great because it was much cheaper to build than larger warships in the late 19th and
early 20th century. The submarine has a way of concealing itself that is denied to the torpedo boat

The side propellers would then be set in motion, allowing the submarine to sink to a required depth.
The great thing about this boat is that, should there be a failure of the engine, the boat, from its own
buoyancy, would rise to the surface.
Experiments were conducted in 1910 with he British submarine D1 , the largest in the British
Navy. These experiments were successfully carried out. What were these experiments. Well, the
D1 was able to maintain communication while submerged. The D1 replied from below the
surface. The tests were conducted at a level deep enough so that the periscope would be kept just
above the water line and the rest of the boat was submerged. The periscope was half way up the
mast. To compare the American technology to that of the European world, in 1913, the largest
submarine built for the United States Navy was just short of 500 tons displacement submerged.
The submarine proposed for the Russian s Czar s Navy was to be nearly 10 times as great, 5,400
tons of displacement submerged.
The tendencies in the construction of early submarines was mainly toward an increase in their
displacement. In 1913, the idea to equip submarines with defensive and protective weapons, in
addition to torpedoes, came about. These guns could be used in defense against enemy submarines
or even against enemy planes, to give you an example of their necessity.

  • 2. Cloning And Its Implications On Human Cloning Cloning and Its Sociobiological Implications Picture this: walking down a street and seeing someone who looks exactly like you. They do the same things as you, act the same way you do, and are exactly alike in several ways. But have people ever considered the consequences of human cloning if it becomes permitted? Human cloning might seem like something out of a science fiction novel, but it may someday be possible with advances in science and technology. This will result in the creation of several ethical and moral issues for those in the field of genetics. Cloning of a human is a great accomplishment in itself; in fact, it can be deemed as an achievement of which people could have only dreamt of in their dreams. Cloning can be considered a trite in the field of medicine as it has a lot of benefits such as; curing cancer, reversing heart attack, and curing genetic diseases, etc. Although, potential of medical accidents in cloning is grossly overstated, the cloning of human beings should not be prohibited. The cloning era established its root when a sheep named Dolly was manufactured in 1996. She was cloned using somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). Since in her case the nucleus was removed from a mammary gland cell she was named after Dolly Parton (Smith). Even though Dolly s birth was a milestone in the engineering of animals for food and medicine, many people were disturbed with the thought of human cloning, hence; religious, political, and scientific leaders condemned ... • 3. Coast Guard Leadership Case Study 1. With few exceptions, the Coast Guard Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL) Program lacks professionally skilled leadership coaches. A lack of understanding about what coaching entails and the vast benefits coaching can provide are the main causes of this shortage. As a result, our Badge network s ability to support our Coast Guard men and women is limited. The Coast Guard CSEL Program needs to build coachingthe art of assisting people in enhancing their effectiveness and get from where they are to where they want to be as a competency within its ranks. At its core, coaching is a methodology that allows us to work with change, on a personal level, on an organizational level, and on a relationship level. 2. Critics of training CSEL members ... One of the primary duties of a CMC is to assist and advise their principals of mission, morale, and well being impacts of existing or proposed policy changes (Ref. (a)). CMCs strengthen the chain of command by keeping the command aware of existing or potential problems as well as procedures and practices which affect the mission, readiness, welfare and morale of the crew. CMCs are the sounding board for the commanding officer, acting as his or her senior enlisted advisor. If CMCs developed coaching as a skill, they could step into the role of an executive coach when needed. Executive coaching helps define vision, increases job satisfaction, and focuses on goal achievement. Using 360 degree feedback tools, questioning techniques and coaching skills, CMCs could help their principles improve their leadership abilities, identify and stay focused on long term goals and improve day to day operations. Once trained, CMCs could use such models as Kouzes and Posner s Leadership Challenge (Ref. (e)) to help coach their principals into clarifying and strengthening their leadership philosophies and visions. They could also help principals interpret performance feedback such as Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI) and Organizational Climate Survey (DEOCS) and figure out the next steps to take toward creating a healthy command climate. CMC coaches could also provide emotional support for the process of change, bolstering the courage and resolve needed to initiate and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the novel written by John Irving, A PRAYER FOR OWEN MEANY, the protagonist, Owen Meany, developed an unusual religious significance. Owen experienced visions of future events, he had a unique type of faith in God that most do not attain, and Owenspoke endlessly to inform people about God. Throughout Owen s life he demonstrated the same characteristics as a prophet through his actions and his words. Thus one could conclude that Owen Meanyis a prophet. Similar to a prophet, Owen was given precognitive powers that allowed him to see into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Owen stated in his diary, quot;THE WAY THEY LOOK AT ME, I KNOW TWO THINGS. I KNOW I SAVED THEM I DON T KNOW HOW. AND I KNOW THAT THEY RE AFRAID FOR ME... quot; (474). The entries in his diary revealed that he died saving Vietnamese children. He was a prime example of courage and integrity. A prophet uses their prophecies to not only prove that they have powers, but also to somehow benefit the world or allow people to learn from their visions. In Owen s case, quot;he had established himself as a prophet... quot; (201). It was a wonder to John that quot;the changing of the year had so little effect on Owen Meany when [John] considered that he thought he knew...exactly how many years he had left. Yet he appeared content... maybe that s what faith is... quot; (358). Was Owen s sole purpose in life only to save the Vietnamese children? The mind wants to say no because many of us could never comprehend such a sacrifice. Owen Meany found strength in his belief that God made him for a special, heroic purpose. Owen thought he was the reason John s mother was killed. One night, Having gone into her room, he witnessed an apparition. Owen believed the task of John s mother s death had been passed to him for he had interrupted the angel of death at her holy work. To imply that this incident was an accident was to be accused that you lacked faith. In Owen s opinion quot;...he had DISTURBED AN ANGEL AT WORK, he had UPSET THE SCHEME OF THINGS quot; (102). General Dempsey articulated the United States military is the premier global military with a decisive military advantage but dominance just doesn t happen necessitating the United States military to maintain the decisive edge. Dempsey s statement is the catalyst for the premise of Joint Force 2025 in which the United Statesmilitary embarks upon a transition and rebalance to address a wide continuum of emerging threats to our nation s national interests in the foreseeable future. Dempsey correctly states that adaptation and innovation are essential to the Joint Force 2025 as we have to out learn and out think our adversaries. This essay will recommend general capabilities of Joint Force 2025 which are necessary to transition and rebalance the force based on strategic guidance and the global security environment which provides the combatant commander with right sized capabilities in support of the nation s strategic interests. Utilization of national strategic guidance will lay the foundation for the assessment of each service s general capabilities in support of Joint Force 2025 while also appraising riskimplications in the foreseeable global security environment. The 2014 Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) clearly states the path forward for the United States military consists of adaption, reshaping and rebalancing the force in a fiscally constrained environment while actively defending the homeland, building security globally and projecting power and winning decisively. ... Brief analysis on Plain English Movement Writing, generally speaking, ought to be an instrument for conveying ideas from one mind to an other efficiently. Conventional legal composition, on the contrary, appears to be overwhelmingly complicated to the public. Occurring and then prevailing since the 1970s, the well known Plain English Movement (we mainly cope with the movement in the USA) seems to have offered a commonly welcomed solution to this problem. However, disputes still remain in the legal academia in regard to the actual efficiency of the Movement. • 7. The Role Of Objective Structured Clinical Examination Introduction Assessment plays important role in medical education and training of doctors. Assessment methods have evolved over the last decade from written tests towards a holistic system of evaluation (Howley, 2004). New methods of assessment tools have emerged with emphasis based on real world testing. Medical education and assessment has shifted towards competency based training (PMETB, 2008). OSCE has been widely used as an assessment tool worldwide in both undergraduate and postgraduate exams including medicine and allied health specialities (Patricio M, 2013). In this assignment I have reviewed the role of Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) as an assessment tool in the MRCS exam as an MRCS examiner in relation to the literature. Background Millers pyramid of educational objectives (Miller 1990) and Bloom s cognitive taxonomy (Bloom, 1956) formed the pillar of medical education in the 1990 s. Miller (1990) introduced his pyramid of educational objectives consisting of four levels: Lowest level of pyramid is knowledge (Knows), ascending up is competence (knows how), performance (shows how), action (does) . Knows represents the basic facts, knows how to apply knowledge, shows how demonstration of skills and does competent real life practice. The four level of the pyramid reflects the level of knowledge and competence on which all the assessment methods of today are based on thus constituting the basement framework of education and assessment. In some cases, especially for small businesses, the deductions could result in a refund. There are different ways to expense business equipment when filing taxes, which can often lead to confusion. Mary Anne Belle Character Analysis The novel s incorporation of both direct and indirect characterization allows O Brien to portray characters in many ways, which gives the reader a more well rounded and in depth depiction of them. One instance of O Brien s deliberate choice in characterization method is in his depiction of Mary Ann Belle. Before her transition, Mary Ann is primarily depicted using direct characterization: Though she was young, Rat said, Mary Anne Bell was no timid child. She was curious about things (91). Experiences play a vital role on who we are as a person, more importantly the memories that we ve had as children stick with us for the rest of our lives. They help structure and model us into a person that will eventually do extraordinary things that will affect others around us. In first world countries most experiences as a child are generally the same for everyone because they live in a safe shielded environment that protects them anything bad that could happen but, children growing up in third worldcountries face horrible experiences that can cost them their lives but they believe is the norm. Through my primary research I have discovered that history and social structures have had a great impact on my personal life than ever imagined having to growing up in a third world country. After developing my secondary research, the information I collected is proof of events that have ultimately lead to factors of my development from an infant to who I am as a person today. • 13. Human Chorionic Gonadotropin ( Hcg ) The placenta is an internal organ that grows during pregnancy, in normal cases it is attached to the lining of the stomach all through out pregnancy. It is an endocrine organ that only grows during pregnancy and provides the unborn child blood supply of its own apart from the mothers. The blood supply and nutrients are transferred via the umbilical cord to the child, it is responsible for keeping the baby healthy while inside the womb. The organ works like a regular cycle, it washes the nutrients and oxygen that travels from the mother s body to the placentaand through the umbilical cord to the fetus. The fetus then disposes the waste products, such as carbon dioxide, back to the placenta where the mother uses bodily functions to dispose of them, it also contains hormones that help the unborn child cultivate and mature. The placenta produces hormones like Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG), which is presented after the egg has been fertilized. Also, it produces Progesterone, which is important for the lining of the uterus to stay healthy, strong and to maintain the stability of the baby and the placenta. If progesterone levels produced by the placenta are decreased or lower, it can be possible the pregnancy might terminate itself. Another hormone the placenta produces is estrogen, which for pregnancy helps the mother produce milk and lactation for the child during the pregnancy and beneficial for the child after birth. Although Mishima writes of young love and tranquility in The Sound of Waves, his later works are categorized as aggressive and containing violent sexual actions. Even Mishima himself referred to The Sound of Waves as that great joke on the public (qtd. in Ishiguro 385). However, one cannot compare this novel to Mishima s other literary pieces; in order to classify it as romanticized, one must evaluate the usage of imagery, an idealized setting, mythical allusions, and characterizations which establish the romantic driven qualities in The Sound of Waves. One conflict that Hatsue must overcome is when Yasuo attempts to rape her; his plot was obstructed by the intervention of a furious hornet. Hatsue sees the flashing of the little golden colored wings and wonders what god it [is] who [has] come to her rescue. In this case, Mishima created an idealized situation were nature as saved Hatsue from the immoral actions of Yasuo. The setting of the island Uta jima is idealized, which creates a place where the romance between Hatsue and Shinji can seem realistic. In parliamentary system, a party may have a narrow base and may try to win only a small number of legislative seats. (Browne, n.d.) Explain how interest groups try to influence the president and Congress as these two branches work together to make policy. Trying to persuade government officials through direct inside contact is called the inside game. Lobbying is another term for inside game. Lobbyists normally work for a specific interest group, corporation, or law firm that specializes in professional lobbying. This novel is a Gothic novel, and I will be writing an essay about this novel to show, and explain how Gothic it is. His son is to be married to Isabella, but things go a different direction when she finds out that Manfred wants to marry her now. When Manfred pursues Isabella in a sexually way, his demand for a divorce from his wife Hippolita seems unreal, due to the incestuous nature of both relationships. Manfred s logic seems to be lost and his justification, and his reasoning for his actions makes very little sense. What makes this Gothic is, this is a dark way of living, and how evil it is to live this way. From the novel Northanger Abbey , General Tilney is accurately, if understandingly, described by Mrs. Morland as a strange man (Austen 29). In this story there is a character named Catherine Morland who is a tom boy, that is a girl that is becoming a woman. As she is becoming a woman, she is pulled between both boys and playing sports, like Cricket. Her mother and father send her off to an upper class resort to meet young men. There she encounters a man named Henry and she falls in love with him. General Tilney is a man who runs a very strict household, despite his actions to appear laid back to Catherine. I then got a text in middle of class from friend saying that my name is not on the list. At first i thought it was an error made by the coaching staff because at out of all the people how could i have been cut off like that? So, my first intention was to text my coach. I asked him if i got cut off the team and if there was a mistake made. But, I get a text saying see me at lunch . At that point, i knew i was cut. I was so confused. How could a coach cut a player that was batting over 400 and was getting clutch hits against one of the best schools in the game. A player that never complained and did what he was told since the start. I dealt with all the annoying little things and provided for the team but instead of getting a little recognition, i was just dropped. Was it something i did? Or did he simply not like me? • 47. Frederick Douglass Slave Narrative Frederick Douglas, born Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey, was born into slavery in the year 1818 on Maryland s Eastern Shore. He was separated from his mother at a really young age. He lived as a slave for 20 years before he became a free man. Along the way, he managed to learn how to read and write. In 1845, Douglas published his autobiography The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas, an American Slave. In the novel, he writes down everything he experienced from the time he was a little baby to the time he became a free black man living in New Bedford, Massachusetts. The genre of Douglas s autobiography is a slave narrative and as a slave narrative, this novel is great at accomplishing the main purposes that the genre typically includes. One of the... When he was young, he lived with a master who was not a humane slaveholder (Douglas, 17). He seem[ed] to take great pleasure in whipping a slave and would whip upon her naked back until she was covered in blood (Douglas, 17). It was horrifying for Frederick to hear the agonizing screams of his fellow slaves being whipped every night. When he got older, he moved to Baltimore to live with his new master, Mr. Auld. While he was there, he was subjected to see his master tie up a lame young woman, and whip her with a heavy cowskin (Douglas, 57). This horrific punishment would last four to five hours. Many of the slaves were exposed to cruel scourgings,... mutilations and branding,...severe flagellation[s],...[and] depriv[ation]...of necessary food and clothing (Douglas, 6) So, not ... • 48. Function Arithmetic Response Personally, the part of the text that was the most difficult to read for me was Function Arithmetic, chapter 1.5, last section of chapter 1 which was assigned to me. I believe that it was the worst for me because it seems to be the most complicated. In Function Arithmetic, almost all the concept we studied in the paragraphs before were put together and it caused to me a lot of confusion and, consequently, a lot of effort to successfully resolve the task. I have to admit that I read the part I reported above at least a dozen of times and I am sure that if I should read it again there will be still something more to learn that I didn t get 100%. • 49. Septic System Research Paper There a number of myths surrounding things you can add to your septic system, additives that will supposedly allow you to go longer between pump outs, or inspections. While some of these may help slightly, none should take the place of a regular inspection by a certified septic service. Fact of the matter is, most of these additives and quick fixes do little to help your septic system and some actually can make matters worse. Here are three of the most common myths and why you should avoid using them. Extra Bacteria Every time you flush your toilet you add enough good bacteria to keep your septic tank functioning properly. There is simply no need to spend your money to buy bacteria to add to your septic system. When there is an overabundance of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yeast Pouring yeast into your septic system is another myth that has little or no practical benefit. While some bacteria will feed on the yeast, it does nothing to promote good bacteria in your septic tank. Think about how adding one cup of salt to the ocean would make the water saltier. This is about the same analogy as adding the recommended amount of yeast to your sewer system. So, Adding yeast to your septic tank is basically a waste of your time, effort and money. Baking Soda The usefulness of baking soda added to homemade cleaning solutions is another one of the septic tank myths that has ballooned out of proportion. True enough, mixing a little baking soda in chlorine based cleaners can help reduce the adverse affects these harsh chemicals have on the good bacteria in your septic tank, but simply adding baking soda all by itself, will do absolutely nothing. Besides the three mythical cures just mentioned, septic professionals do not recommend adding anything to your septic system. Additives are not necessary for the proper operation of your septic ... • 50. The Warming Of Global Climate Change Global climate change is going to change with or without the help of humans because we have to use fossil fuels to survive. Global Climate change is the warming of the average temperature On Earth s surface, caused mainly by the increased concentration of Greenhouse Gases in the atmosphere causing weather patterns to change. Man made gases are not the only contributing factor to Global Climatechange because such things as sunspots eating at the atmospheric layers, causing more radiation to come through, increased water vapor due to Carbon Dioxide induced warming as indicated by NASA, and Permafrost, which is solid, frozen soil which constitutes about 25% of land area in the Northern Hemisphere. Sunspots form On the sun s surface due to strong magnetic field lines coming up within the sun trough, solar surface, and are visible as dark spots compared to surrounding. Sunspots are generally bigger than the Earth and are always dark and much cooler than it s surroundings. Large sunspots can have a temperature of 3700 degrees Celsius, which isn t much compared to the temperature of the photosphere of the sun which is about 5500 degrees Celsius. Sunspots are a very common sight during the solar maximum; Solar maximum is the period of greatest solar activity which lasts about eleven years (SpaceWeatherLive.com. 2015). Sunspots occur because the sun isn t a rock like Earth and the inner planets. The sun is a ball of continuously circulating hot gases that doesn t move all in one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 52. Essay on The Use of the Submarine During the American... The Use of the Submarine During the American Civil War I have always been an American history buff. I was aware that the first use of the Submarine during war was during the American Civil War. Since learning this fact, I had become, in a sense, amazed with submarines thus, I have become rather interested in them. I found this paper as a good chance to learn more, a lot more, about early submarines and the evolution of them. With the ability to sink both large and small warships with the same percent chance, the value of the submarine is great because it was much cheaper to build than larger warships in the late 19th and early 20th century. The submarine has a way of concealing itself that is denied to the torpedo boat by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The side propellers would then be set in motion, allowing the submarine to sink to a required depth. The great thing about this boat is that, should there be a failure of the engine, the boat, from its own buoyancy, would rise to the surface. Experiments were conducted in 1910 with he British submarine D1 , the largest in the British Navy. These experiments were successfully carried out. What were these experiments. Well, the D1 was able to maintain communication while submerged. The D1 replied from below the surface. The tests were conducted at a level deep enough so that the periscope would be kept just above the water line and the rest of the boat was submerged. The periscope was half way up the mast. To compare the American technology to that of the European world, in 1913, the largest submarine built for the United States Navy was just short of 500 tons displacement submerged. The submarine proposed for the Russian s Czar s Navy was to be nearly 10 times as great, 5,400 tons of displacement submerged. The tendencies in the construction of early submarines was mainly toward an increase in their displacement. In 1913, the idea to equip submarines with defensive and protective weapons, in addition to torpedoes, came about. These guns could be used in defense against enemy submarines or even against enemy planes, to give you an example of their necessity. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Sleepy School: The detrimental effects of starting the school day too early Long before the sun rises or the moon sets, the morning rituals of high school students across the United States are well underway. Long before the streetlights have turned off, students are walking and driving along the roads to reach their educationcenters. Long before the bell for second block has rung, many of these same students find themselves dozing off in class. Why are they unable to focus? Are they aware that falling asleep in class is rude? How are so many students this tired? These are all valid questions that teachers and parents alike often ponder to themselves. The answer to these questions, however, lies with one simple word: sleep. It has become ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
