Greatest Scientific Discoveries
Antibiotics Antibiotics transformed medicine. The discovery of antibiotics began by accident.
On the morning of September 3rd, 1928, Professor Alexander Fleming was having a clear up of
his cluttered laboratory. Fleming was sorting through a number of glass plates which had
previously been coated with staphyloccus bacteria as part of research Fleming was doing. One of
the plates had mould on it. The mould was in the shape of a ring and the area around the ring
seemed to be free of the bacteria staphyloccus. Further research on the mould found that it could
kill other bacteria and that it could be given to small animals without any side effects. However,
within a year, Fleming had moved onto other medical issues and it was ten years later... Show more

They wanted to devise an inter networking system (or internet) whereby different networks could
talk to one another. Arpanet devised TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol).
This was a set of rules for communication between networks. The Internet became a network of
networks. Only the military stayed outside of this for security reasons. In 1988, there were
50,000 computers attached to the Internet. By 1991, there were 1 million. However, it was
difficult to access the information contained on the Internet as the system had little organisation.
This problem was solved by Tim Berners Lee, a British scientist studying at a research facility in
Switzerland. He invented a method of organising information which he called the world wide
web (www). His system linked documents from different sources and guided users to related
information. The www was first used by the public in 1991 and it allowed the transfer of text,
sound, images and video clips. Above all else, it was simple to use. In 1998, 130 million people
were using the Internet and the figure continues to grow annually. The Jet Engine Sir Frank
Whittle s jet engine transformed travel. The jet engine has allowed millions of people now to do
something that was barely thinkable just 70 years ago crossing the Atlantic at speed. The Wright s
may have invented the first real aeroplane, but the credit for the invention of the jet engine goes to
Sir Frank Whittle. In 1937 he

Adolescent Eating Disorders and Attachment
Eating Disorders (ED) negatively affect 25% of adolescents. It is a disorder that compiles abnormal
eating habits that includes either excessive or insufficient food intake. These abnormal eating
habits can definitely affect the individual s physical and mental health. Different factors are
presume to be correlated with eating disorders in adolescents. Some examples consist of depression,
anxiety, behavioral problems, low self esteem, role of attachment, parental relationships, etc
(Gossens, Braet, Bosmans, amp; DecaluwГ©, 2011). In the present paper, an examination of the
role of attachment that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, deficits of parental attachments were linked with different types of adolescent
psychopathology on clinical groups, which induces to support the findings in the study. Regarding
seeking proximity, half of the group with eating disorders claimed that since the disorder was
identified, they developed a closer relationship with their mothers. The findings proposed that the
disorder served as a mean to obtain closeness in order to satisfy the mothering hunger for the
emotionally unsatisfied adolescent (Orzolek Kronner, 2002). One limitation to this study is the
reliability of self present measures reported by adolescents. Another limitation is that this study
focuses only on females and their relationships with their mothers.
Next, the topic of attachment in relation to eating disorders is projected using ex post facto study
method, which refers to something occurs after the fact. In the research article by Cunha, Relvas
and Soares (2009), the differences of family perceptions related to eating disorders are inspected.
The main focus was to distinguish detected family characteristics between females with anorexia
nervosa and females with no eating pathology. The sample consisted of 34 females with anorexia
nervosa and 34 females with no eating pathology. It is predicted that family perceptions are related
to the methods they seek for solutions during detrimental family conflicts. Family resilience has an

Woodward Dream Cruise Argumentative Essay
Detroit may not seem like the ideal summer vacation destination for some, but for a growing
assemblage of car aficionados, the third Saturday of August means visiting the Motor City region

Why Is Charles Kane A Good Person
I believe that Charles Foster Kane could ve been a good person, but ended going down the
wrong path. He was given a large sum of money when he became an adult, but in return basically
had his childhood stolen from him (Hughes). His mother wanted him to live the rich life instead
of in a little town where she was living and to eventually inherit her recently found fortune
(Hughes). When he was given this money, he let it take over his life and lost sense of how he
should behave. Because of this, I do not personally like Charles Kane due to how he let the money
affect his decisions.
I believe that the author portrays Charles Kane as sort of an evil man through the things he does,
but shows that Kane doesn t realize how he is behaving is wrong. One example of this would be
how he ran his newspaper company the New York Inquirer (Citizen Kane). He presented the news
in the best way possible to get as many people as he could to read it. Even if he had to lie a little
bit in the title or in the actual stories, all he cared about was being everyone s main source of
news. This however was the opposite of what he originally wanted to do which was to present
only honest and true news. One time he lied about the news was in relation to his second wife
Susan Alexander. She was not a very skilled operasinger as told by the ... Show more content on

However, Thatcher and Kane never fully see eye to eye and a bond is never really formed
between them. When Charles went into the newspaper business, his true colors were shown by
something he did in regard to Thatcher. Walter Thatcher was a banker, so Kane wrote in the
newspaper attacking the baking business in an attempt to get back at Thatcher for taking him from
his family (Citizen Kane). This shows that Kane wasn t a very good person because Thatcher tried
his hardest to get Charles to like him, but was never successful in doing

Court Room And One Party
Lawyers are responsible to demand justice for those who have violated their legal rights or an
act against the law. A lawyer is an individual that is trained to be able to handle any various legal
issues at hand. Lawyers have many task such as protecting their clients life as well as belongings,
defending a client if legal action is taken towards them, and guiding their client in the right
direction of legal advice from the law. Our law is very complex, rather than asking someone to
learn the law, as citizens we just pay someone who knows them, studies them and has practiced
them in various ways. When thinking of lawyers many people only think about the big picture, two
parties in a court room and one party becomes victorious. Lawyers are... Show more content on

In many cases lawyers have said wrong meaning in the court for something that the client had
not even done, resulting in false accusation which could possibly put an innocent person away
for nothing, this is why it is essential that lawyers prepare the way that they do. As a lawyer it is
your job to prove adequate abilities towards your case and most of all your client. Seeking
justice in the conclusion should be the attorneys goal even if the client presumes to be guilty. As
a student with a passion for the study of law, I have no fear in being the first to say that justice is
something we as people need to keep fighting for. Without justice who knows how things would
be, our world would be a complete mess. Recognition of the good from the bad, as well as the
just of our law, to the unjust. Becoming a lawyer is no easy task, in fact it is considered one of
the more difficult choices as a career path. With law being so widely spread there are numerous
approaches one may take in achieving the official goal in sight, being said, most find that the
approach taken is not always the final result. For example, many attorneys that pursue becoming a
prosecutor have a change of mind towards that study because they learn to combat with it so well,
ultimately switching sides to become a defense

only the suicide, but also the existence of the sister in law. Her mom said that her husband, father,

In the movie, the male actor is married and appears as a pervert who eyes the girl and waits for
the right moment to approach and take advantage of her. This sometime results with the girl being
pregnant and the wife demanding the husband to fire the girl. Many Chinese soap operas are long
stories ranging from 1 to 20 episodes. The story line always incorporates a woman getting raped and
taking advantage of her innocence. For example, in the movie called Heaven and Earth directed
by Oliver Stone in 1994, the character Le Ly leaves her farming village with her mother for

What Are The Four Major Developmental Theories
Introduction
Developmental theories help teachers in many ways to enrich their teaching and student s learning
process. Therefore, it is very important teachers to apply the key ideas of these developmental
theories in their teaching career to the betterment of students.
This document will present a brief description of four major developmental theories and will focus
on how these theories can be applied in my real teaching world as a middle school teacher. Four
major developmental theories
Though many theorists have brought the study of human development, there are about four major
important theories that are in use effective (Oswalt, Major Child Development Theories and
Theorists, 2007). They are:

Piaget s stages of cognitive development theory
Jean Piaget has brought a cognitive developmental theory with four stages;
Sensorimotor (birth to 2 years), Preoperational (2 to 7 years), Concrete operational (7 to 11 years),
and formal operational (12 years to adulthood). In
Piaget s view, throughout these four stages all children develop their thinking according to how
they see the world around them (Oswalt, Jean Piaget and Child Development
, 2007).
Lawrence Kohlberg s theory of moral development
In Kohlberg s moral development theory, he discussed about the process which people learn how to
identify and differentiate what is right and what is wrong.
In his theory, he presented main three levels with total six stages. They

Boeing Engineering Strike Case Analysis
Negotiation Efforts: The Boeing Engineering Strike In 2000, the Boeing Company found itself in
an unprecedented crisis. Over 17,000 engineers walked off the job site in a massive strike initiative.
Attempts to end and mitigate the strike provide a backdrop for negotiation process analysis in a
collective bargaining situation. Prior to the engineering strike, Boeinggrossly underestimated the
morale and emotions of the company s engineers. The failure to connect with employee concerns
cost the company in both reputation and financial loss. The purpose of this paper is to explore the
negotiation process as it unfolded during the Boeing engineering strike.
Boeing
The Boeing Company represents the world s largest aerospace corporation and is the foremost
producer of commercial jets as well as defense, space, and security systems. Corporate offices are
located in Chicago, IL supporting Boeing s two business units: Commercial and Defense, Space,
and Security. The company boasts one of the worlds most talented, diverse, and creative pool of
employees with approximately 160,000 individuals working throughout the United States and in
more than 65 countries (The Boeing Company, 2016).

strike, in 1993, lasting only one day (Imberman, 2001). Hence, Boeing was not anticipating a strike,
especially one of any magnitude. Secondly, the organization neglected to listen to employee needs
and concerns, executing one way communication from the top down (Imberman, 2001).
Subsequently, Boeing was not aware of how strongly the engineers felt about the McDonnell
Douglas merger, white collar worker benefits, and the internal work culture changes brought about
by importing external

The House On Mango Street Gender Essay
Girls and boys are entirely separate entities. That s what the protagonist of The House on Mango
Street believes. And it s true that Esperanza and her female peers experience adolescence very
differently than they would as males they are more vulnerable. Growing up means the painful
necessity to be on guard, and the sexual attention Esperanza receives from older men leads her to
feel helpless. Brought to light by the appearance of Sally, a popular friend, genderbased
objectification materializes over and over in Sandra Cisneros first novel. As a desire to be
desired cultivates in Esperanza s consciousness, she is forced to confront the trouble that comes
with being beautiful. The presence of Sally brings to the surface two prominent issues girls face
in society: a lack of control over their bodies and lives, and the subsequent pain that keeping up
appearances presents. In a patriarchal world, most women have felt powerless. They are under
constant scrutiny by media, and constant sexualization by men often, girls feel they aren t in
control of their own selves. This is a theme in Mango Street. Again and again, femalecharacters are
placed under the domination of fathers, husbands,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adolescence is a time of being forced to come to terms with the more grisly aspects of human
nature and for girls, this means the realization that they are seen as prey by many men. Because
of this, Sally acts a crucial role in Mango Street, as her lack of control over her own life sheds
light on what the female perspective truly entails. But this narrative of men holding power must
change only when women are empowered can society truly advance. Sally from Mango Street
may never experience the freedom to be herself and choose her own path, but Sandra Cisneros has

Church History Chapter 4
For the same Church
Through reading the chapter 4 of the book Church History , written by Kevin Hughes, I find the
connection between the Luther s Conflict with Catholic opponents and the definition of the
Church. In other words, although the traditional Catholic theologians and Luther have different
views about the if a human could follow Gospel perfectly, they were still a unity that gathered by
God to form the Church, and both of them were doing their best to teach the Holy Spirit of God to
other citizens. Arguing the sense of human sinfulness, Christians could better ways to bring Jesus
Holy and love to others. Moreover, the deeper understanding of sins could save from people from
the suffering of further sins. For example, between 1517 and 1520, Luther wrote thirty works
about his theology ideas and sold more than 300,000 copies total. It gives many people a
completely new view about human sins.

In other words, when people deeply understand the righteousness of God, they would find that it is
impossible for human beings to keep themselves completely away from the sins, even the pope
and saints would make mistakes. However, the Church did help people to make connection with
the Holy Spirit and prevent the further sins. For example, the Christ had bequeathed the spirit to
the Church, and the Spirit preserved the Church from error. The Church couldn t directly teach the
Holy Spirit to believers, but it could provide them a connection with God and the Holy Spirit. As a
result, under God s great love, those sins are still forgivable. It is the point of view that I never

Chloroalkanes
When looking at all three plots, the trend for all three properties is to increase as carbon number
increases. This supports the information available about melting and boiling point. The melting
point and boiling point are the temperatures at which the molecules have enough energy to
overcome the intermolecular forces holding them together4. Melting point is the temperatureat
which a group of molecules changes from solid to liquid, and boiling point is the temperature at
which a group of molecules changes from liquid to gas. Enthalpy of vaporization is the heat that
is required for a substance to go change from a liquid to a gas.5 Melting point, boiling point, and

For these series both interpolation and extrapolation could be used with some accuracy. For
alcohols, boiling point has a near linear relationship with carbon number, and both interpolation
and extrapolation could be used. The enthalpy of vaporization for alcohols does not have a
direct relationship with carbon number, and should not be interpolated or extrapolated. Melting
point for all three series does not seem to follow any trend except for a general trend of
increasing as carbon number increases. Melting point seems to decrease for alkanes with odd
numbers of carbons, and increase with even numbers of carbons8. This is most noticeable
between carbons 2 and 4 of the 1 monochloroalkanes and 1 monofluoroalkanes. The reason for
this drop between even and odd numbered carbon chains is believed to be a result of the way that
these chains form in solids. The even chained carbons are more stable, and require more energy to

Success In Big Sean s Bounce Back
The art form of achieving pure success only goes to the person that jumps through hurtles to reach
their goals. Success is defined as the accomplishment of an aim or purpose, or the attainment of
popularity or purpose. Leonardo DiCaprio exclaims, Be thankful for the hard times, for they have
made you . This argues that successis not measured on fame, but on the journey it took to reach
that success. Even cashing a check and coming back after a loss, or a decision that could end
your close relationship with your daughter forever, are forms of success. In Bounce Back by Big

Ariel complains to Prospero that she is being treated unfair, and leads into Ariel and Prospero

A Comparison Of Democratic And Republican Parties
As we all know in the past of the United States history, there were two major parties that are
Democratic and Republican party that dominant the southern and northern of America. Today, as
the two major parties conflict has arisen, Libertarian party has formed and its views mix in the
between of both major parties. We cannot deny a great effort of increasing an American economic
from all three parties such as Democracy, Republican, and Libertarian. However, many political
issues the parties are faced which seem to shift their basic belief over the times like states right for
an example.
In the past, the Democratic and Republican parties did not share the same views of how power
should be split between national government and states. Democratic party supported state rights
while Republican party thought that state rights limited the United States to become a strong nation.
Today, the view of state rights has switched its position between the two parties in which the

Bilingualism Analysis
Bilingualism (go to paper rater) (buy more gum) ( study much) weekend
An ongoing battle of culture, freedom, and language occurs in America today. The battle is
commonly called Bilingualism. The dictionary definition: being able to speak multiple languages.
Though, when you dig deeper, you discover the hunger of differing tongues. Many people believe
bilingualism should have a certain role in the public and education. One of these figures is Martin
Espada, who believe that bilingualism is also respecting one s culture. He believes that more effort
be put into understanding different cultures and languages. An opposing figure to this is poet and
author, Richard Rodriguez, who believes bilingualism should not be emphasized in the public ...

Though the judge didn t care what she had to say. If he were to respect her like a judge should do
she would have been able to defend herself.
Moreover, throughout Rodriguez s essay he tries to to show us that he believes that
bilingualism in the public and schools is not the the priority but to be able to function in society
is. He illustrates this when he finally understands how to speak English. Rodriguez states I
spoke in a loud voice. And I did not think it remarkable when the entire class understood. That
day, I moved very far from the disadvantaged child I had been only days earlier ( 95 98). He calls
himself disadvantaged because before he could not function in the classroom, due to him only
knowing Spanish. But as he learns English he feels as though he can succeed. He also portrays
this when he talks of how there would be other people in his home after school other than his
family. Rodriguez states When I arrived home there would often be neighborhood kids in the house
(132 133). Now that he understands english he has friends. There is no need for him to use
Spanish. As English is what everyone uses to communicate.
These authors provide clear stances on bilingualism. I feel as if it s a great opportunity if you have
the time to learn about another culture and language. The way I view bilingualism in the public and
educational system is that everyone should have the choice to learn a different language. One piece

Alcoholism As A Family Disease
It is estimated that the number of adults, in the United States, who abuse alcohol or are alcohol
dependent is approximates 17.6 million, or 8.46 percent of adults (Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Services Administration, 2015). These statistics present a primary health concern (Hart Kisr,
2013). Still yet, an additional concern is warranted because of the family influences on the
development of problems with alcohol and the risk for family members developing alcoholismand
other mental or behavioral issues (National Institute on Alcohol Abuseand Alcoholism, 2005).
Evidence points to problems with alcohol that are associated with various family factors, such as
spousal and parental use, use by children, family principles and attitudes about alcohol
consumption, dynamics of family and patterns of relationship, and interplay of alcohol with
biological and genetic factors (NIAAA, 2005). Alcoholism is considered a family disease all
members are affected, thus, those who are concerned the most about the alcoholic are affected
the most (Al Anon Family Group, 2008). For this reason, Al Anon offers peer support in an

Symptoms And Symptoms Of A Personality Disorder
Your sense of reality and who you are depends on your feelings, thoughts, sensations, perceptions
and memories. If these become disconnected from each other, or don t register in your conscious

you will change. This is what happens when you dissociate.Dissociative disorder is a personality
disorder marked by a disturbance in the integration of identity, memory, or consciousness.
(APA)Everyone has times when we feel disconnected. Sometimes this takes place naturally and
unconsciously. For example, we often drive a familiar route, and arrive with no memory of the
journey or of what we were thinking about at that time. Some people even train themselves to use

Dissociation can also be a side effect of some drugs, medication and alcohol. Many mental health

Deep in the woods lived a village of warriors that had long fought to keep their lands clear of the
wolf menace, but to no avail. It seemed to the villagers that there was a stalemate between them,
or perhaps the wolves had grown accustomed to the taste of their blood and were finally bored
with them. The killings became sporadic and less frequent, to the point where eventually the
warrior culture began to deteriorate. The magic that was instilled in every villager was fading,
their innocent blue eyes remained. Without killing, their eyes were never stained with death and
a pair of brown eyes was a rare sight here. Wolves were now just fairy tales told to children to
keep them from straying too far into the woods. Such was the case with the Faraway girl, whom
people simply called Red. She donned a blood red cape wherever she went because it was a
family heirloom handed down to her by her mother. Every Faraway woman for ten generations
had worn the cape and kept it in the most immaculate condition. When they would wear it the
people of the village always called them Red instead of their given name, it was tradition. Some of
the older villagers knew a story of a great warrior who wore a cape like it. They say it was made of
the blood of one thousand wolves, their deaths woven into the magic fabric. This was the same
story that was told to Red when she asked her grandmother why she had one brown eye and one
blue. She told her, One of our ancestors was said to have slain

Altruism VS The Selfish Gene Essay
Would you give a penny to the needy? How about a kidney? A heart?
The thought of spring break brings up images of partying in warm weather, drunken one night
stands, and the raging hangovers that follow; yet for Rachel Garneau, a junior at Notre Dame, it
represented an pseudo holiday opportunity for giving, and give she did. This twenty year old
gave up a kidney for a complete stranger. There was an air of psychosis to her as she walked right
into the University Of Chicago s Bernard Mitchell Hospital, calm as ever; her demeanor quite
indifferent, her nonchalance quite unnerving. Funny how we find this act of complete altruism
weird ; because it is weird, all that we know from evolution, Darwinism, basic human tendencies,

Studies conducted on the early developmental egalitarianism and parochialism in children show
that other regarding factors are, to some extend, exist as inherent tendencies in all humans: when
allowed to choose between how candy is distributed among an anonymous partner and themselves,
the children chose to be heavily selfless in their distribution. As Fehr et al. come to this startling
conclusion in their paper Egalitarianism in young children , we see how proper upbringing and
cultural norms are not solely responsible for our altruistic nature. We have evolved to take others
into consideration in our choices; we have evolved a heart .
The innateness of these selfless tendencies is exemplified by the close study of our primitive
ancestors. Frans de Waal, professor of psychology at Emory University, studied the habit of the
greater apes. In his work Homo homini lupus? Morality, the Social Instincts, and our Fellow
Primates , deWaal talks about the surprising altruism we see in nature. Adult chimpanzees
consolidate each other after a fight; questioning all we know about how the wild is a cutthroat
struggle for survival.
The most striking evidence was that of the lesser evolved Capuchins. In an experiment to test
altruism in the very basic human precursors, deWaal separated two Capuchian monkeys, Vulcan
and Vergil, giving one the

Essay on Cosque Cave
Cosque Cave
Many, many years ago, a cave was in use, and many paintings, drawings, and engravings were put
on the walls of the cave. About ten years ago, a man was diving in the Mediterranean and came
across something that no one would ever think about finding. It was a prehistoric painted cave with
an underwater entrance. It is known today as the Cosquer cave.
Jean Cosquer, a professional diver, discovered the cave. He was diving for no particular reason, and
found a wealth of prehistoric art in the cave. He made this discovery in July 1991, and ever since
more and more research is being done on the Cosquer cave. It is firmly dated one of the Paleolithic
painted caves in the world.

Most of the work on the walls is engraved. Charcoal and ochre were preferred drawing materials.
Less than one third of the work in the Cosquer cave is painted, and the rest is engraved.
The walls of the cave are decorated with land animals, seals and auks, fifty five hand stencils,
and a representation of a killed man. The Cosquer cave artwork is located more in dark, secret
areas and away from the main area of the cave. Thousands of the finger paintings on the soft wall
surface are at a height of three to four meters high. This would mean that the artists of this cave
would have had to use ladders or a tree trunk to make these markings. The majority of the artwork
in the cave is animals. To this date, representations of one hundred and twenty five animals have
been found in this cave. Horses are the dominant animals displayed in the cave. Caprids, goat like
creatures, are the second most dominant animals displayed. Red deer are also represented on the
walls, but bison are more numerous than the red deer. Researches can not quite figure out where the
marine animals fit in with the other paintings and artwork, but there are marine animals painted and
engraved in the cave too. However, they are the least dominant animals presented in the cave.
Thanks to the twelve radiocarbon records, researchers were able to figure out that

The Jan Spyglass Book Summary
Throughout my childhood, and extending into my highschool reading career, I have enjoyed
reading books that focus on complex issues that are omnipresent in our society, though reading
about them through a fantasy setting is much more appealing and fascinating to me. One prominent
example is the children s fantasybook The Amber Spyglass, the third and final book in the His
Dark Materials series written by Philip Pullman. This book analyzes in depth issues such as moral
ambiguity, the pitfalls of power, and loyalty, all while simultaneously representing a coming of age
novelwhere two children may be the necessary turning point in a huge war with heaven, as they are
bombarded with others striving to gain their loyalty and the resulting power.... Show more content

People generally seek comfort in cults when that comfort cannot be found elsewhere within their
family, friends or community thus those who join tend to be vulnerable, seeking a place where
they feel safe and secure. But as they become more involved, cults often force people to cut ties
with their outside life to force full reliance, giving more and more time and money, thus
increasing the cult s power (Zimbardo). These actions are often present in church like
organizations as well, begging the question of determining the difference between a church and
cult. Both can provide comfort and security to a person who feels vulnerable, with the possibility
of becoming overly extremist, leading to religious fanaticism utter devotion and strict adherence
to a religion with little to no regard for anything outside beliefs set around that religion and its

This collectivistic phenomenon of leadership, as some are calling it, involves multiple individuals
divesting in leadership roles over time both formal and informal relationships, thus creating a
paradigm shift (Cullen Lester Yammarino, 2016). With this change, theories emerge recognizing
collectives as complex relational systems. Theories of shared leadership, collective decision
making, complexity theory, flock leadership, the social construction of leadership, sensemaking,
and social exchange and entrainment are examples of the diverse collective leadership concepts
emerging for success. Cullen Lester and Yammarino (2016) state that collective leadership is a
required capability in facing increasing complex workplaces, business challenges, and social
problems; for which, collective and networking leadership are changing academia and practice.
Thomas E. Will (2016) writes about a new concept known as flock leadership that is a result of
collective behavior. Flock leadership is theoretical framing that is a unique emergent collective
behavior in organizational settings analyzing relationships between emergent behavioral patterns,
interaction norms and means to identify leadership opportunities (Will, 2016). An agent based
computer simulation known as flocking model captures the collective behavior of numerous
interacting autonomous agents; for which,

Identifying A Cluster Of Media Communication
Examining a cluster of media communication in order to review common and unique approaches

was not as easy as I expected when explained in class; but, it was interesting and seeing as though I
have learned over the years through my other classes that the average American spends somewhere
near 8 hours of their day watching television, the marketing industry has a big advantage using

Of all the commercials I saw, they were all geared towards young adults and older. From Ink Joy
pen commercials to a Realtor.com commercial with Pepsi, Pizza Hut, and Reds Ale in between,
these commercials seem to be heavily concentrated on adults, the activities they take part in, and the
resources they will need for future endeavors. I was unable to document a significant difference in
the types of commercials shown during these programs in order to have much of a comparison, but
there was enough alike about them to dissect them and really figure out the methods which
broadcasting companies use in order to attract their buyers and consumers. For every television
channel I have ever watched throughout my life the commercials have always been significantly
louder than the actual show I am viewing; not just for these two channels, but I did notice it more
when actually having to pay attention. Why does this annoying thing constantly happen every
channel I choose to watch? The answer to this question: marketing purposes. It is in the companies
best interest on becoming successful with the product they are attempting to sell by turning the
volume up on their commercials louder than the actual television show because it attracts the
viewers and manipulates them in to paying attention to them. People are not watching television

from this general perception of economists on liberalization of trade, the purpose of this article is
to put more thoughts on The Importance of Trade in Stimulating the Economies of Developing

Calcific or Degenerative Aortic Valve Disease
AORTIC STENOSIS
Calcific or degenerative aortic valve disease is considered one of the most, if not the most,
common valvular lesion encountered among elderly patients.( Iung B, Baron G, Butchart EG,
et al.) In fact, as shown in the Helsinki Aging Study, 501 randomly selected people, men and
women, in an age range from 75 to 86 underwent echocardiography. (Iivanainen AM, Lindroos
M, Tilvis R, et al) The outcome of the research was that, the prevalence of critical aortic stenosis
increased with age from 1 to 2 percent in those patients aged between 75 and 76, up to almost 6
percent in those 86 years of age (Lindroos M, Kupari M, Heikkilä J, Tilvis R.)
The risk factors associated with the development of calcific aortic stenosis in elderly adults are
similar to those for atherosclerosis. Some examples of significant risk factors for the degeneration
of aortic valve disease can be the age of the patient, the gender, current cigarette smoking,
hypertension, high serum concentrations of lipoprotein(a) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol.
(Iung B, Baron G, Butchart EG, et al.)
The two most common causes of aortic stenosis severe enough to require surgery are
calcification of congenital bicuspid aortic valves and degenerative calcification of tricuspid aortic
valves (Roberts WC, Ko JM. ) Aortic valve calcification, scored by computed tomography (CT),
can be helpful in diagnosis of severe aortic stenosis in the patient. (Marincheva Savcheva G,

During reconstruction, some 2000 African American held public office, from the local level all the

What Role Does The Chorus Play In Medea
Discuss the importance of the role that the Chorus plays in Euripedes Medea.
br
br The Chorus is very much an important part of Euripedes Medea, and indeed many other works
written in the ancient Greek style. In this play, it follows the journey Medea makes, and not only
narrates, but commentates on what is happening. Euripedes uses the Chorus as a literary device to
raise certain issues, and to influence where the sympathies of the audience lie.
br
br In the list of characters at the beginning of the play, the Chorus is stated to be a chorus of
Corinthian Women. This draws the first link between them and Medea. The Chorus follows Medea
on her journey through this play. They act as narrators on important occurrences in the play;...

When Medea married Jason, she married herself to him for life. She was expected to be totally
obedient and to accept whatever her husband willed. For her to look upon another man other
than her husband would have been totally unacceptable. Whereas Jason marries another woman
while he is still married, and then it is Medea who is banished from Corinth. However, the
audience s response to this type of situation would most likely have been different in Euripedes
time, to today. Obviously one can t know this for sure, but one can deduce it from what we know
of that era. Although some wouldn t have condoned Jason s actions, many would have seen it as
normal because it would have been a much more common occurrence then than today.
Nonetheless, in presenting these sort of issues in a moralistic play to the audience of the day was
a brave and controversial thing to do. Obviously, the views on the these issues have come along
way since the time when this play was written, so today s audience adapts the messages in this play
to their own morality. The treatment of women, and of Medea, and the circumstances that Medea is
faced with, help the audience to, not condone, but understand the reasons for Medea s actions at the
end of the play.

A Comparison of Haydn s Symphony No 95 With Beethoven s...
A Comparison of Haydn s Symphony No. 95 with Beethoven s Symphony No. 5
Introduction As noted by Robert Hughes, Beethoven was not only the embodiment of all that was
before him, but also of that which was yet to come (Hughes 486). The truth of this may be seen by
comparing Beethoven s 5th Symphony in C Minor to Haydn, the father of Symphony, and his 95th
in C Minor. While Haydn s symphony is both playful and dramatic, Beethoven s symphony is
grander both in terms of scale and vision. He expands the size of the orchestra to incorporate the
sounds swirling around, underlying, and depicting the arrival of Fate in a rhythm driven, thematic
symphony that takes Haydn s form and runs with it as though to the top of a mountain peak. This
paper will analyze the symphonies by movement, according to form, size, structure, tonalities,
melodies, orchestral sound and overall mood and effect.
1st Movement Both Haydn s and Beethoven s first movements are composed in sonata form, with
an exposition stated in the opening that is then developed and recapitulated. The size of Haydn s
opening movement is somewhat smaller than Beethoven s, whose opening exposition itself seems
larger than life. Haydn s first movement is roughly six minutes long, and the length of Beethoven s
first movement only exceeds Haydn s by about a minute and a half to two minutes. Beethoven does
not introduce too many structural changes to the traditional sonata form, which he learned from
Haydn, in the first

An Investigation into the Identification, Properties, and...
Abstract This paper describes the methods used in the identification, investigation of properties, and
synthesis of an unknown compound. The compound was identified as calcium nitrate by a variety
of tests. When the compound was received, it was already known to be one of twelve possible ionic
compounds. The flame test identified the presence of the calcium anion in the compound. The
compound tested positive for the nitrate cation using the iron sulfate test. At this point it was
hypothesized that the compound was calcium nitrate. Reactivity tests and quantitative analysis
comparing the unknown compound with calcium nitrate supported this hypothesis. Synthesis
reactions were then carried out and analyzed. Introduction... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Once the quantitative analysis indicated that the compound had been correctly identified, it was
also our goal to determine methods of synthesizing the compound and to compare the syntheses
for cost effectiveness, safety, and potential yield. Discussion The unknown ionic compound was
composed of translucent crystals. It had no odor, was soluble in water, and its electrical
conductivity in water was measured at 1.66V, as indicated in Table 1. The compound burned a
bright red during the flame test consistent with the flame signature of calcium, as indicated in
Table 2, and along with the fact that the compound was soluble in water, this helped us to
eliminate the possible presence of the poorly soluble salts (Cooper, 2008). However, tests for these
anions were still performed. The compound was tested for the presence of ammonium, carbonate,
sulfate, chloride, and nitrate, as seen in Table 2. The nitrate test produced a precipitate, indicating
the presence of the nitrate ion in the compound. At this point it was hypothesized that our unknown
compound was calcium nitrate. In order to test the hypothesis, the same tests given in Table 1 and
Table 2 were performed on a sample of calcium nitrate. The results obtained for all the tests were
the same as with our unknown compound. To further test this hypothesis, five different reactions
were designed, as can be seen in Table 3, in which a

Main Character in James Thurber s The Secret Life of...
In James Thurber s short story, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, the main character, Mr. Mitty,
immerses himself into an alternate reality several times throughout the piece to escape the
hollow, unexciting life he leads. These instances in which he takes the place of others in more
thrilling situations are spurred by actual occurrences in his own life. Through the use of these
alternate realities, Thurber shows the monotony of an average life and how even average beings
search to test the waters of heroicness and bravery in important occupations. The story begins as
Mitty is captain on a Navy hydroplane in one of the worst storms in Navy history. This dream was
most likely egged on due to the fact that when this story takes place, the... Show more content on

Although there are two specialists called in from around the globe, the operation is being
stopped to wait for Dr. Mitty, a genius surgeon. The fact that Walter performs the surgery
without the direction of the two other experts fortifies the idea that he only wishes to become a
hero and not a zero. After Walter realizes that he is driving in the wrong lane, due to his
daydreaming, he leaves his car in the care of a valet and goes about his business of purchasing
some new overshoes. Mitty soon remembers that he was to not only buy the shoes, but
something else. As he is standing in the street he hears something about the Waterbury trial from
a paperboy. As if by magic, Mr. Mitty is slung into a courtroom and is on trial now as a murderer,
a cocky murderer on trial for shooting Gregory Fitzhurst. He shows, yet again, how he longs to
be the best and under no control by telling the prosecution attorney that he is an expert ?with any
known make of gun.? The point that he shows that no one or thing has control over him is his
telling the court that even though his arm is bandaged, he could have shot the man over three
hundred yards away with his left hand, which shows that even physical ailments nor practicality
have any control what so ever on the man. In the middle of the trial ?puppy biscuit? escaped
Walter?s lips as he finally remembered what it was he was to buy, besides the overshoes. Later in
the story, Walter is

  • 2. Greatest Scientific Discoveries Antibiotics Antibiotics transformed medicine. The discovery of antibiotics began by accident. On the morning of September 3rd, 1928, Professor Alexander Fleming was having a clear up of his cluttered laboratory. Fleming was sorting through a number of glass plates which had previously been coated with staphyloccus bacteria as part of research Fleming was doing. One of the plates had mould on it. The mould was in the shape of a ring and the area around the ring seemed to be free of the bacteria staphyloccus. Further research on the mould found that it could kill other bacteria and that it could be given to small animals without any side effects. However, within a year, Fleming had moved onto other medical issues and it was ten years later... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They wanted to devise an inter networking system (or internet) whereby different networks could talk to one another. Arpanet devised TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol). This was a set of rules for communication between networks. The Internet became a network of networks. Only the military stayed outside of this for security reasons. In 1988, there were 50,000 computers attached to the Internet. By 1991, there were 1 million. However, it was difficult to access the information contained on the Internet as the system had little organisation. This problem was solved by Tim Berners Lee, a British scientist studying at a research facility in Switzerland. He invented a method of organising information which he called the world wide web (www). His system linked documents from different sources and guided users to related information. The www was first used by the public in 1991 and it allowed the transfer of text, sound, images and video clips. Above all else, it was simple to use. In 1998, 130 million people were using the Internet and the figure continues to grow annually. The Jet Engine Sir Frank Whittle s jet engine transformed travel. He was given a large sum of money when he became an adult, but in return basically had his childhood stolen from him (Hughes). His mother wanted him to live the rich life instead of in a little town where she was living and to eventually inherit her recently found fortune (Hughes). When he was given this money, he let it take over his life and lost sense of how he should behave. Because of this, I do not personally like Charles Kane due to how he let the money affect his decisions. I believe that the author portrays Charles Kane as sort of an evil man through the things he does, but shows that Kane doesn t realize how he is behaving is wrong. One example of this would be how he ran his newspaper company the New York Inquirer (Citizen Kane). He presented the news in the best way possible to get as many people as he could to read it. About ten years ago, a man was diving in the Mediterranean and came across something that no one would ever think about finding. It was a prehistoric painted cave with an underwater entrance. It is known today as the Cosquer cave. Jean Cosquer, a professional diver, discovered the cave. He was diving for no particular reason, and found a wealth of prehistoric art in the cave. The Cosquer cave artwork is located more in dark, secret areas and away from the main area of the cave. This would mean that the artists of this cave would have had to use ladders or a tree trunk to make these markings. The majority of the artwork in the cave is animals. To this date, representations of one hundred and twenty five animals have been found in this cave. Horses are the dominant animals displayed in the cave. Caprids, goat like creatures, are the second most dominant animals displayed. Red deer are also represented on the walls, but bison are more numerous than the red deer. Researches can not quite figure out where the marine animals fit in with the other paintings and artwork, but there are marine animals painted and engraved in the cave too. A Comparison of Haydn s Symphony No. 95 with Beethoven s Symphony No. 5 Introduction As noted by Robert Hughes, Beethoven was not only the embodiment of all that was before him, but also of that which was yet to come (Hughes 486). The truth of this may be seen by comparing Beethoven s 5th Symphony in C Minor to Haydn, the father of Symphony, and his 95th in C Minor. While Haydn s symphony is both playful and dramatic, Beethoven s symphony is grander both in terms of scale and vision. He expands the size of the orchestra to incorporate the sounds swirling around, underlying, and depicting the arrival of Fate in a rhythm driven, thematic symphony that takes Haydn s form and runs with it as though to the top of a mountain peak. This paper will analyze the symphonies by movement, according to form, size, structure, tonalities, melodies, orchestral sound and overall mood and effect. 1st Movement Both Haydn s and Beethoven s first movements are composed in sonata form, with an exposition stated in the opening that is then developed and recapitulated. The size of Haydn s opening movement is somewhat smaller than Beethoven s, whose opening exposition itself seems larger than life. The flame test identified the presence of the calcium anion in the compound. The compound tested positive for the nitrate cation using the iron sulfate test. At this point it was hypothesized that the compound was calcium nitrate. Reactivity tests and quantitative analysis comparing the unknown compound with calcium nitrate supported this hypothesis. Once the quantitative analysis indicated that the compound had been correctly identified, it was also our goal to determine methods of synthesizing the compound and to compare the syntheses for cost effectiveness, safety, and potential yield. Discussion The unknown ionic compound was composed of translucent crystals. It had no odor, was soluble in water, and its electrical conductivity in water was measured at 1.66V, as indicated in Table 1. The compound burned a bright red during the flame test consistent with the flame signature of calcium, as indicated in Table 2, and along with the fact that the compound was soluble in water, this helped us to eliminate the possible presence of the poorly soluble salts (Cooper, 2008). However, tests for these anions were still performed. The compound was tested for the presence of ammonium, carbonate, sulfate, chloride, and nitrate, as seen in Table 2. The nitrate test produced a precipitate, indicating the presence of the nitrate ion in the compound. At this point it was hypothesized that our unknown compound was calcium nitrate. In order to test the hypothesis, the same tests given in Table 1 and Table 2 were performed on a sample of calcium nitrate. The results obtained for all the tests were the same as with our unknown compound. To further test this hypothesis, five different reactions were designed, as can be seen in Table 3, in which a ...
