Pros And Cons Of Genetic Engineering
Since the dawn of time, humans have pondered the very roots of their existence. Through religion,
many filled the void of their origin with a creation story, but with relatively recent discoveries, the
origin of humans has been revealed. Charles Darwin s ideas on natural selection and evolution led the
way for this new facet of thought. His findings were widely rejected at first but paved the way for
more progress. Shortly after, Gregor Mendel was able to prove inheritance with pea plants. A plethora
of other discoveries throughout the twentieth century allowed for a process called genetic engineering.
But, what is genetic engineering? By manipulating the recombination of DNA, scientists are able to
change an organism. They have found that they can use viruses to inject therapeutic genes into
humans. Through this process, people are now able to control specific genes in an organism for more
desirable traits. This has been used in the industry of food, medicine, and in various other sciences.
(Britannica, Genetic Engineering )
In the farming and food industries, the utilization of genetic engineering is very common. It began in
the 1990s with cotton plants. Scientists discovered that its DNA could be manipulated to create
beneficial changes. These changes included resistance to antibiotics, resistance to herbicide and
introduction of more nutrients and vitamins ( History of Genetically Modified Foods, 2004). Also,
scientists are able to use genetic

The Value Of Skate Culture
Several years ago, I lived with former pro skater Josh Kasper. One Saturday, Josh and I were lounging
around the house playing chess (BTW, Josh is also somewhat of a chess aficionado). During our
conversation, he mentioned that in skate culture to injuries was a type badge of honor. That s within
the skate culture, and the value of a bump or bruise as a badge of honor in skate culture doesn t really
apply to many other professions or sub cultures. Though, it seems that within various groups, there is
always something that carries a value within that group that makes members of that group feel
honored because of an inflated value from other members in that group. That thing, that title or badge,
doesn t necessarily represent the true value

Native Americans And Native American Cultures
The initial clash between the European and Native American cultures is the start of our Mixed
American history. Like many other colonization stories, concepts such as culture, religion, trade, and
colonialism are tossed in a mix between virtues such as trust, acceptance, and fairness. Often times
neglecting the latter of the mixture. The oddity of such unions is that the native people are generally
tolerant with the foreigners... until the foreigner grows into the oppressor. Such is the case between the
Native Americans and the European colonizers. Despite early collaboration, Native American tribes
responded with great despise and animosity towards the expanse of European colonization. The initial
contact between Native Americans and Europeans was rather easygoing. Both cultures didn t quite
seem to understand each other and their ways. Nonetheless, both parties found methods to be partially
reliant (for the Native Americans lesser than the former) on the other in ways that helped settle the
original inept feelings. An example of such alliance was the start of Chesapeake colony, Virginia.
Early settlements were dismantled by the inadequate environment and lack of food only until the
collaboration with the Powhatan tribe were they able to then barely survive. With the exchange of
survival, the Native Americans were given goods such as metal tools, objects and other modern goods
that helped ease day to day Indian lifestyle. Another example of positive collaboration in the

What Role Did Religion Play In The 1640s
Q: Why did the English king and Parliament quarrel in the 1640s? What were the most important
issues behind the war between them, and who bears more responsibility for it? What was the Glorious
Revolution, and why did it take place? What role did religion play in the seventeenth century English
politics? Do you think the victory of Parliament over the monarchy in England was inevitable?
A: King Charles I and Parliament quarreled because the king had been ignoring Parliaments voice for
some time. So once the king decided he needed money for his war in Scotland, but tired of the king s
bullying, Parliament refused to support Charles until he resolved many political and religious offenses.
King Charles I really held a lot of the blame here because

Arctic Temperature
Temperatures in the Artic
Over the last several years, researchers in the Arctic have begun closely monitoring the temperature
and the alarming effect it seems to be having on the climate. According to researchers, the Arctic is
having abnormally high air temperatures and sea surface temperatures, which are causing the melting
of the ice leading to record breaking lows of ice. To the north, the Arctic is almost 100% ice and snow.
The southern parts of the Arctic are where you can find more vegetation along with dense forests. The
Arctic Research Program for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration director, Jeremy
Mathis, stated that the increase in temperature has caused a significant drop in the amount of ice that is

Emissions from cars and factories along with landfills, greenhouse gases and companies continuing to

the most important places that climate change can happen, given that the melting of ice will cause a

Electric Charge And The Electric Field
EXPERIMENT #1: ELECTRIC CHARGE AND THE ELECTRIC FIELD PHY 2092 10 By: Kamal
Aljohani Date Performed: 12 January 2015 Date Submitted: 30 January 2015 Lab Partners: Martynas
Mickus Sean Small Instructor: Robert J Lucia INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this experiment is to
analyze the static electricity, electrical charge, charge grounding, inducing charge, and electric
polarization. We used two wands that created positive and negative charges when rubbed together one
is blue and the other is white. We put one of the wands inside the pail attached to the electrometer to
read the wand s voltage. In the second part of the experiment, a conductive sphere was applied 2000
volts, and voltage s readings were taken at different locations on ... Show more content on

When we used both wands, the electrometer almost read zero volts throughout the duration of the
experiment. This proves that the negativity of the particles on the blue wand were equal to the positive
charge of the particles on the white wand; so it cancelled each other out. While using the both wands
we encountered an error. The voltage should have been zero when the wands was out the pail and not
touching the pail; however the electrometer reading was 3 volt. This is most likely due to a random
error in measurement due to a faulty electrometer or pail. The electrometer may have not been
sensitive enough to pick up all the charged particles when the wands were not out the pail we should
have repeated this so we can get accurate readings. Voltage/ Distance 60 cm (Second Sphere

Back (far) 0.6 Volts 0.6 Volts 0.6 Volts Left 0.6 Volts 0.6 Volts 1.2 Volts Right 0.6 Volts 0.6 Volts 0.3
Volts In part two of this experiment, we set up two conductive spheres 30 cm apart from each other.
We applied 2000 volts to one of the spheres. We grounded the aluminum wand placed it tangent to the
charged sphere to collect particles. The wand was then placed into the pail without contact and record
a positive charge of 0.6 Volts. This lets us know that the electric field has a radius of at least 30 cm.
We repeated these steps with 2 cm distance

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Deacetylases
Apart from the advantages of Chemical Deacetylation it also have disadvantages such as Energy
Consumption, Waste of concentrated alkaline solution which results in increase of environmental
pollution, broad and heterogeneous range of soluble and insoluble products.
An alternative enzymatic method has been discovered to overcome the limitation of preparation of
chitosan by discovering chitin deacetylases . For production of novel, well defined chitosan we have
found the use of chitin deacetylases for the conversion of chitin to chitosan, which is in contrast to the
currently used chemical procedure, offers the possibility of a controlled, non degradable process . This
method is specially used to prepare chitosan oligomers For production of chitosan we use ... Show

However, chitosan solution must be free of aggregates, and hence the solvent for chitosan must be
chosen carefully. The viscometric average molecular weight is usually been calculated from intrinsic
viscosity because of the lower impact of small fractions of aggregates, using the Mark Houwink
relationship. In order to determine K and a parameters, an absolute MW has to be calculated using
light scattering technique and due to high sensitivity to aggregate formation the obtained value is
usually overestimated. These artifacts may be carried out for instance by the use of 0.3M acetic
acid/0.2M sodium acetate (pH = 4.5) solvent which does not form aggregates in this mixture. Under
these conditions, the absolute M values were obtained from steric exclusion chromatography (SEC)
equipped with viscometer and light scattering detector on line allowing to determine the Mark
Houwink parameters without fractionation and also to obtain the relation between the radius of
gyration (G) and the molecular weight(MW). The K (mL/g) and a parameters at 25 °C are 7.9 × 10−2

Enveloped Virus Research Paper
Viruses are obligate intracellular parasites; their lack of biochemical machinery makes them
dependent on the host cell for replication.5,8 The viral replication process involves assembly
individual components into viral progeny. Viruses consist of a DNA or RNA genome that is packaged
into a protective protein capsid shell; additionally, some viruses are surrounded by an outer,
membranous envelope.2,5,8 Viral genomes are used to express viral proteins.5 However, because
these viral genomes do not encode for the machinery necessary to carry out protein synthesis, viral
genomes must be copied into mRNA that can be read by host ribosomes.5,7,8 There are seven major
types of viral genomes that are classified by the Baltimore system. 5 All viruses ... Show more content

The Issue Of Animal Welfare
Nobody can ignore the pain and suffering of another without feeling some type of sympathy and or
guilt. This is why when presenting the issue of animal welfare, most if not all will lean toward the
humane treatment of livestock. However, there is nothing humane about skinning, chopping up, and
serving a living creature to other living creature. Agencies such as the United States Department of
Agriculture (USDA) can t fret over mental and physical conditions of the animals if they have to focus
on feeding over 320 million people in the U.S.. There are a concrete set of principles that enables
companies to produce food in any manner that will guarantee mass production of safe (edible) food at
a low cost, with no concern on what conditions the livestock are in. This barrier protecting these
companies would be difficult to amend without igniting a series of issue of the structure of our society.
Throughout history, technological innovations in agriculture has been almost a direct effect of increase
in human population. However, in the past we never had to put some sort of ruling in place to justify
how we farm our livestock and obtain food. Farmers have recently found a new innovation in
agriculture technology that involves modifying the genetics of an animal. This process is profitable for
the production companies, but are harmful towards animals and at sometimes harmful to the
consumer. This technology brings a whole new meaning to the use of artificial selection. Both the

Enlisted Distribution And Assignment System Essay
Enlisted Distribution and Assignment System The Enlisted Distribution and Assignment System
(EDAS) is a great system with minimal hardware and software requirements. The system is simple
and effective at what it does. Competition is scarce and there are very few things that should be
changed involving the technical aspects of the system. The more than 100,000 assignments that are
processed through EDAS annually are vital to the versatility of the Soldiers in the greatest Army the
world has ever known. Server Side Hardware Requirements There is a shift that has been occurring in
recent years to move away from server hardware to cloud computing. As Gallaugher stated, it is
evident in IBM s quarterly numbers (pg 217). The company saw an increase in earnings with a larger
decrease in hardware sales. Though this may be true, there are many services that undoubtedly require
the use of mainframe hardware produced by companies such as IBM. The only available information
about the EDAS Server Side Hardware is that it runs on the USAHRC Data Center Mainframe
(Human Resources Command, 2016). I imagine that this data center is something like the data center
represented by SAP. There is certainly a server room. This room contains some sort of primary and
secondary cooling. The room also contains a power source and in case that source fails, likely a
battery backup to hold interim power while the generators kick on. All of this would be necessary to

Spread Of Diversity
The drastic spread within the world religions has been causing a great deal of diversity in today s
society. Due to the spread, as well as the diversity there has been formed lots of stereotypes which in
its length has created conflicts between both religious and nonreligious groups. Despite the tragic
facts, people are still sticking to their religions and the question is: Why?
Today s society, especially in the west, has grown to become more and more secular. It is said that this
is due to our governments. Since religion is about faith, moral and voluntary associations they mean
that if the government would be controlled by religion it would be forced to implement religious acts.
That could often lead to unnecessary conflicts that eventually

My Favorite Experience
My childhood was never something that seemed to be a typical boy s childhood. I never watched
sports as kid since the T.V. channel was dictated by my parents so all we watched were shows like
Law Order, CSI, and Fear Factor. I never learned about cars whatsoever and talking about girls always
perplexed me. I never understood how someone could base their feelings about someone based off
physical appearances, but that could just be because I was very pessimistic and was always very
distant of people in general. Video games are something that I loved to play and was something I
thought would a normal guy thing. While I had played video games, they mainly consisted of
Nintendo games which are generally much more docile than games than what most guys played,
which consisted of first person shooter games such as Halo and Call of Duty. This lead to awkward
moments when trying to have conversations with other guys, especially when I was going into high
school. One hot summer afternoon, one that exemplified the extremes that Kansan weather can
produce, exemplified just how bad these conversations could get. Band camp had started up and we
were learning the basics of marching and practicing the music for our show for that year. After a while
of rehearsing our marching drills, we were told to take a water break to prevent dehydration in the
intense heat. These water breaks also served as a chance for everyone to get to know each other
through idle chit chat. Most people stayed in the

it is relating to Nicki Minaj. This is where young girls are looking to change their bodies to look like
these celebrities.
With all the press people trying to live up to this standard in today s society, this is why suicide and
mental health issues is on the high. Recent research showed that, (e.g. Trust for the Study of

We get some who is very confident and others who don t have any. But sometimes it is good to offer
tasks or activities for young girls to boost their confidence. As Batsleer stated that, Offering new

women try new activities, they grow in confidence to tackle new way of living that are within their
grasp .
(Batsleer:2013:40)
However if a young girl is lacking confident issues as they are trying to live up to celebrity life s this
can take a huge part of a young person confidence. In my local youth centre, I believe running courses
on self confidence and self esteem with young girls is critical as these young girls will talk to you once

identity. Jon Ord stated that, Confidence grows as a result of a process of being engaged in the kind of

Stephenie Meyer Influence On Religion
On December 24, 1973, Stephenie Meyer was born in Hartford, Connecticut and later raised in
Phoenix, Arizona. Being brought up as a Mormon, she was very religious and was thought of as
intelligent and bright by almost every one of her teachers. In early childhood, she began to read
authors from Emily Dickinson to Shakespeare which influenced her award winning four book series.
Taking themes and similar ideas from the authors that inspired her, Stephenie Meyer brought the love
for vampire thrillers back to life in her series, The Twilight Saga.
Her major works are what make people gravitate towards her. In early June of 2003, Meyer dreamt of

soon as she finds out, it s all mushy love and action from there. Edward is always trying to protect her,
which what girl doesn t want that in a guy, but while Bella loves that, she is also trying to be
independent and make her own decisions. Meyer does an outstanding job of making the reader feel
what Bella is feeling throughout the entire series. I believe she does the best in New Moon when
Edward leaves Bella because he thinks he is hurting her and robbing her of her humanity. He feared
she would one day want to become a vampire and didn t wish that for her, he didn t even wish that for
himself. With that thought, he left her at once. Meyer took the reader through how Bella coped with
the loss of Edward and what she did to keep her from thinking about him. People may not have gone
through something this dramatic, but it s a relatable topic which is why people gravitate toward this
series. People also love to see the love story unravel with all the obstacles they have to face in order to
be together in the end. While reading and anticipating, the reader sees the two characters fall in love
and grow up. I think the whole Twilight

etc. These values of the funeral procession are produced in the text, as a way to inspire the youth of
Rome. However certain historians are suspicious when it comes to Polybius point of view on Roman

being argumentative to some of the subject material. They believe that Polybius cannot be seen as

A Student At Hampton University
I wish I could say it still surprises me when I mentioned to people that I attended an HBCU

conversation starter, which usually evolves into a meaningful educational moment about the history of
HBCU s. However, occasionally I find myself becoming frustrated when ask the question why in a
way that questions the validity and or need for HBCU s in 2016. As a student at Hampton University I
did not fully realize the impact it would have on me, but looking back, it is clear to me that those
experiences have shaped who I ve grown into today, and strongly influence to my desire to pursue a

My first class in Marine and Environmental Science department at Hampton University turned out be
different than I expected. Instead of a large lecture hall full of students, I entered a small classroom
with approximately 15 students. It was a pleasant surprise to see the small group of students, who
shared a cultural resemblance and has similar interests. Up until then, typically when I told someone I
wanted to be a marine scientist, the response was oh that nice or so you want to play with fish? So
being at Hampton with likeminded students that I could relate to made the transition form high school
to college easier than I anticipated. There was a feeling of communities that allowed me to feel free to

Comparison Between Cats And Dogs
Cats and dogs are considered to be the top pets in the world. Cats and dogs are both furry, four legged
animals that can make good pets. Cats and dogs like to be played with and are affectionate animals.
They both require shots and frequent visits to the vet when needed. Although both animals can add
more love to a family they are both very different animals. Some people are considered cat people
while others are dog people. When choosing which pet is best there are many things to consider.
The main difference between cats and dogs is their history and background. Before dogs became pets,
they hunted in packs which means dogs now love company. Cats are considered more of as loners and
love to spend time alone. Dogs are known to be as one of the smartest pets because they are capable of
understanding humans and their commands. On the other hand, cats aren t as social as dogs, it s harder
to get them to interact with their owners. Dogs are more likely to be obedient and ready to be trained,
dogs are so smart you can teach them tricks such as to shake your hand, play frisbee, or even to stand
on their hind legs. Cats want no part in learning anything taught by a human for example: Dogs will
come when called whereas cats will stare because they do not want to respond to directives.. Dogs are
also social and enjoy interacting with people, they can also become very loyal to their owners but cats
enjoy being alone and would rather lay around than learn to do anything. Dogs are

Analyse The Importance Of Early Intervention In Children
I have learnt that language can be cognitive, material or social (Gee Hayes, 2011). Some view
language as a set of social conventions, shared by a group of people about how to communicate such
as classroom or sporting rules, often supplied in books and followed by people. Children don t read
books so social conventions need to be taught by modelling behaviour and communication.
With the exception of severe disabilities or social problems, all humans acquire language as a core of
basic property of their humanity called vernacular which is used in everyday life Gee Hayes (2011, p.
8). I believe that this is why early intervention is so important; not to label a child; but to better
support them for further education. Most humans can learn

The Responsibility Of Protecting ´
The ´Responsibility to Protect´ (R2P) concept first came about in a 2001 report from the International
Commission on Intervention and State Sovereignty (ICISS), which was set up after, then Secretary
General, Kofi Annan, said there needed to be some a change in the United Nations charter regarding
military forces in humanitarian interventions. This came following the criticism of the NATO
intervention in Kosovo in 1999. The report further evolved into the concept that was approved in the
UN s General Assembly in 2005 (Evans 2014; Zyberi and Mason n.d. 2013: 7, 513). In 2009 the UN
confirmed a continued endorsement of R2P under the formula of three pillars and four crimes (Zyberi
and Mason n.d. 2013: 10). The main issue with R2P has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The review will then conclude with an article from Evans, who goes over the use of R2P through the
years, where it stands today and compares the situations in Libya and Syria.
Even though R2P has been accepted in the UN General Assembly and is widely used in the literature
of humanitarian issues, Zyberi and Mason point out that R2P is not a binding norm of international
law although it does have a clear legal dimension to it. R2P is rather seen an international social,
political and moral norm and even though it doesn t prohibit unilateral humanitarian intervention it
does not grant States a legal right to intervene (2013: 13 14). According to Zyberi and Mason s
analyses of the State responsibility in the context of R2P, they find it to have several different
meanings and vary according to which perspective it s looked at from as the State and policies are
influenced differently and the scope of obligations is different for a State s individual and collective
responsibility (2013: 32 33). The political framework of R2P is therefore based on fundamental
principles of international law and epitomises the humanitarian character of those laws that have been
put in place to protect people in the world and their right to peace. The institutional efforts, however,
to operationalise R2P differ considerably from one organisation to another (2013: 511 512). Zyberi
and Mason say that along with the problem of different understanding

Thomas Harris. Within the story, the viewer is introduced to two different types of serial killer through
the medium of Clarice Starling, the film s protagonist.
Though previous works state that Hannibal does not fit any psychological profile , Hannibal seems to
fit the stereotypical tropes presented by the media on serial killers. Through Starling s interactions
with him, the audience can see that Hannibal is methodical and clever, able to steer and manipulate his
conversations with Starling in the direction as he pleases, yet courteous and self aware as he
apologizes for another inmate s actions. This advanced mental capability and stability makes the
infamous serial killer the perfect foil for the actual antagonist of the story, Buffalo Bill. ... Show more

Buffalo Bill, whose real name is Jame Gumb, is a fictional character who was created by Thomas
Harris to serve as the overarching antagonist of both the film and novel. Thomas Harris seemed to
have drawn from a variety of different real life serial killers during the creation of this character. For
example, just like serial killer Jerry Brudos, Jame was abused as a child and abandoned by his family,
left to travel from home to home through the foster care system. Also like Jerry Brudos, Jame would
later find the tools to continue his deviance through the institution that society places him in for his
deviance. As Jame grew into adulthood, his character seems to be more and more like Edmund
Kemper. Though Edmund Kemper was described as an intelligent man while Jame seemed sub bar in
that aspect, he and Jame share a fragile sense of worth. More importantly however, is that they both
outright shared similar first murders, as they both apathetically killed their grandparents to see what it
was like to murder someone. As stated

Case Study Of Star Alliance
Executive summary
Since the 1990s the alliances in the airline industries is common and there are three major airline
alliances which are present in the world are OneWorld, SkyTeam and Star Alliance. These alliances of
airlines have covered almost two third of world air traffic industry and the major contribution in this is
Star Alliance. The strategic alliances on the part of the airlines are done because of many advantages
which not only organizations reap but also the other stakeholders which are involved in this type of
alliances. This research paper is evaluation of why the strategic alliances are important and why the

Learning, specialization and fix cost distribution can spread over larger output with economies of
scales (Albers, Koch and Ruff, 2005). Three strategies were opted as motivation by the airlines to
create an alliance (i) mergers and acquisitions, (ii) setting up low cost carriers and (iii) air alliances.
Air alliance was considered as the most sustainable strategy by the Star airline. Through the strategic
alliance, the airline had an opportunity to expand and become large but at the same time they can
lower their cost by creating the competitive advantage that is why Start Alliance opted for this option
(Cojohari, 2015).
2.2 Marketing and Branding
Airline behavior could not be explained effectively with changing cost structure. In the bottom line of
any alliance marketing strategies and demand response are important. With Star Alliance, the airline
can offer their consumers large and denser global network of airlines with smooth connections among
airlines. Airlines have demands with competitive prices in Star Alliance due to economies of scope,
scale and density. In Star Alliance partners are able to offer better products and services due to airlines
increased capacity to retain and generate passengers (Cullen, Johnson and Sakano, 2000).

social progress. Martin Luther King Jr. was explaining rules exist to keep thing fair, however they can

The Pros And Cons Of Machine Learning
Machine learning and Deep Learning Some machines are capable to acquire their own knowledge by
extracting patterns from raw data, a phenomenon known as machine learning (ML) (Bengio, Ian and
Aaron 2016). Without question, many aspects of modern society have been deeply impacted by these
machine learning systems. Furthermore, ML claims to accomplish simple results that can be
effortlessly understood by humans (Michie, et al. 1994). Outputs from these systems that are used in
service systems include, but are not limited to offering customers new items and narrowing down their
search based on their interests; language understanding, object recognition, speech perception, and
identifying and favoring significant results of online searches (Yann , Yoshua and Geoffrey 2015). It is
important to emphasize that even though human intervention is necessary for background knowledge,
the operational phase is expected to be without human interaction (Michie, et al. 1994). Consequently,
these systems must be able to learn through time. According to Alpaydin (2004), they must be able to
evolve and optimize a performance criterion in order to adapt to the environmental changes to which
they are exposed over time. These systems do that through the use of past experience or example data.
Russell et al. (2004), classified machine learning tasks into three different groups based on the
feedback available to the learning system and the nature of the learning signal: supervised learning,

Martin Luther King Jr s Letter From A Birmingham Jail
Martin Luther King Jr. and Mohandas K. Gandhi were civil rights activists who practiced a form of
movement to gain equal rights amongst their nation. King and Gandhi were most important for their
allegiance to nonviolence. King demonstrated his notion of nonviolence in his letter titled, Letter from
a Birmingham Jail , and Gandhi in his writing, from Non Violent Resistance . The two are closely
related and share common and distinct themes; both held considerably comparable belief toward
nonviolence, laws, and religion.
As both understood the evil of oppression, King and Gandhi conveys that violence could not be used
as the measure to achieve equality in their movements. Nonviolence was utilized by both King and
Gandhi to bring focus to their oppressors evil actions and show the society that justice can be earned
without violence. King used nonviolence as a weapon to stop racism, segregation, and injustice toward
African American in the United States. King did a non violent campaign in Birmingham, as King
stated, four basic steps: (1) collection of the facts to determine whether injustices are alive; (2)
negotiation; (3) self purification; and (4) direct action (p.234). King believes, the tension created by
direct action is the answer to receiving results. Negotiation is an ultimately more humane approach but
allows less results. King concluded that direct action would create chaos that would open the door for
negotiation. Similarly, Gandhi revealed a method of direct

Biography profile for Pablo Picasso
Pablo Ruiz Picasso the man was a troubled, eccentric, problematic man who could never settle down
with a woman or a place of residency, maybe what we could call a free spirit . Picasso, the man, was
also an activist. He fought for peace until his last days. However, no matter how much troubled
Picasso, the man was overshadowed by his own art. In addition, even though one might not like his
works, one cannot deny that without Picasso, modern art and the world would be much poorer, so that
is why I decided to write about one of my favorite artists of all times, the unique Pablo Picasso.

In 1896, his first large oil painting The first Communion was exhibited in Barcelona. The year after,
he painted Science and Charity and received an honorable mention in Madrid at the national
exhibition of fine art and a gold medal in a competition in Malaga. It is important to note that at that
point he was only 16 years old. His visits to museums became very important in this first period of his
career, because like many other modern artists, Picasso had his classicism period when he tried to
imitate the style of the old masters. He also met someone who would become one of his best friends
and his secretary, the poet Sabartes. The new atmosphere made the young artist abandon his classic
style and start a period of searching and encountering new experiences in his career.
During this period, Picasso expressed his idea that an art student should not be obligated to follow any
already established school, but should be free to explore his or her own styles and ideas. This search
for change caused deterioration in his relationship with his parents who could not accept his interest in
modern art.
In 1900, during this search period, Picasso moved to the city that was the major artistic center, Paris,

Discrimation In Religion
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints more commonly known as The Mormon church, has
always received a bad reputation when it comes to discrimation. Since the early 1900 s, the church,
some due to the events in the outside world, made mistakes while growing into the church it is today.
One of the major issues that society has with the church is how selective the church was in the past
and is today to the members of the church, though the members have accepted it fully, and do not
oppose it. Today, society widely dislikes and almost fears the church and how it works today, just as
much as they did almost one hundred years ago, because of those mistakes and rules due to revelation

The Impact Of Guided Reflection On Self-Care Behavior
Implications Theoretically, there is dearth of literature addressing the impact of guided reflection on
self care behavior. To date, only one study within the heart failure population has combined the theory
of self care of chronic illness and Gibbs reflective cycle framework to evaluate the impact of guided
reflection on self care behaviors (Sethares Asselin, 2017). Importantly, this study is the first to
combine the two frameworks within the DM population. Based on statistical analyses and qualitative
data from this study, there are opportunities for further exploration of the combined frameworks in
future studies to illuminate the constructs of the self care theory and possibly theory/ instruments
modification and development. In this study, guided reflection was found to improve DM knowledge
which serves as a starting point for behavior change. Furthermore, guided reflection has been shown
to positively impact self care behaviors (Mamykina et al., 2008; Sethares Asselin, 2017). Importantly,
the targeted population was satisfied with the guided reflection intervention and requested that it be
promoted among others with DM. Participants perspective is important when planning and developing
nursing interventions. Considering the evidence, the opportunity exists to educate patients and/
caregivers to engage in guided reflection using Gibbs reflective questions to promote adequate self
care. This is an auspicious moment to teach healthcare professionals within the

Analysis of Plato s Republic Essay
Philosophy is a Greek word meaning love of wisdom. Throughout Plato s Republic, wisdom plays an
important role. According to Plato, education is wisdom. In the passage, 518d, Plato discusses the true
meaning of education vicariously through Socrates. Some literary mechanisms can be found in the
passage and I will show how they fit in the text and how they contribute to the main themes of Plato s
Republic.
In Book VII Socrates has finished listening to other opinions and is now formulating a response. The
oration is an excerpt from an intellectual conversation between Socrates and Glaucon. The goal of the
dialogue is to reach a viable explanation of education. Simile is used in the passage when Socrates
compares the instrument ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the allegory Socrates gives an account of a man that breaks free from his bonds and makes his way
out of the darkness into the outside world. His story represents a man s journey to enlightenment. To
reach enlightenment a man must use education to break the bonds of ignorance and direct his sight
towards true things that originate from the Form of Good. Man already has the capacity to see, he only
needs guidance. Guidance is the job of the philosopher kings. After these kings have reached
enlightenment it is their duty to travel back into the cave and educate some of the ignorant masses.
Socrates says that wherever sight is set is what will be seen with the most clarity. If a man doesn t
have his sight set on the right things, he can still be very clever but his sight is forced to serve evil
ends, so that the sharper it sees, the more evil it accomplishes. (519a).
Plato s Republic is a blueprint for his ideal society. In his republic education is something only
attainable to the philosopher kings. It is beneficial for the philosopher kings to be very well educated
so they will make good decisions while they are ruling the republic. The reason that no one else
should receive such an elaborate education (in Plato s opinion) is because the rest of the people in the
city only need to do what they are specialized in. This seems to be divergent from what Socrates
previously said, . ..the power to learn is present in everyone s

Yorick s Skull Symbolism
In The Tragedy of Hamlet, William Shakespeare captivates his audience in many ways by using a
multitude of different literary techniques and devices. He is able to capture the attention of his
audience by using said techniques and devices to portray the revenge seeking Hamlet and his lover,
Ophelia, as crazy . These techniques and devices include symbolism, allusion, character development,
and the explicit use of themes and motifs. A symbol is defined as a thing that represents or stands for
something else; and symbolism is the use of those symbols to represent ideas or qualities. Although
there was limited use of physical objects as symbolism in the play, there was one prominent symbol
that came about; Yorick s Skull. When someone mentions the play, Hamlet , this is usually the object
or image they associate it with. Hamlet finds the skull of the dead court jester while in the graveyard
during the digging up of Ophelia s grave in the beginning of Act V. Hamlet talks to the skull, one of
the many acts that portray him to be mad in mind. The skull introduces a monologue by Hamlet:

Differences Between The New England Colonies
The New World was divided into three parts known as the New England Colonies, Middle Colonies,
and Southern Colonies. These colonies were established for many reasons to benefit the settlers who
were coming from countries around the world. Most of their motives were similar, but others were
very different. Specifically, the New England Colonies and the Southern were similar and different in
many aspects concerning their religion, politics, and economics.
The New England Colonies differed from the Southern colonies in their religious practices. In the
New England Colonies religion played a major defining role in all aspects of their lives while the
Southern colonies did not take religion into consideration quite as much. The establishment of the
New England colonies was different from the South because their main objective was to establish safe
places for those fleeing England from possible religious persecutions. In the book, A Patriot s History,
the authors stated, But the Pilgrims rightly hold a place of high esteem in America history, largely

The Challenges Of The Italian Unification Of Italy
The Italian Unification is a time period during which Italy becomes unified as one country. While
trying to unify the country there were obstacles faced and conquered by Mazzini, Cavour, and
Garibaldi as they continued to unify Italy. They pushed Nationalism on the people. The problems that
were faced during the time of the unification were the Austrian occupation of Lombardy and Venice.
Also, the land still belonged to the Pope and not the government which meant that it did not really
belong to everyone and didn t symbolize unification. The last problem is there is an existence of many
independent states which means there were states ruling themselves. One of the major people involved
in the unification of Italy is Giuseppe Mazzini. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He helped unite Italy into one country and was considered a revolutionary hero. Throughout his time
as a revolutionary hero he faces some challenges, for instance, when he was supposed to take over a
war ship and instead he ended up being caught by the police. He was supposed to be sentenced to
death but he managed to escape and flee to South America for twelve years. Garibaldi decided to
move to North America and in the same year went back to Italy. In Italy, they started calling him
Risorgimento which meant revival. He was called this because he came back to help change Italy and
make it one country. In Italy, he partners with the king of Sardinia, Victor Emmanuel II and politically

territory, called the Papal states. With that Garibaldi was able to push the unification to finally happen.
The Italian Unification brought a rise to Nationalism. Nationalism is when a nation is joined together

under one rule and became a singular country. They also received freedom of the press and a new

and the lifestyle choices that individuals make. I have also taken numerous nutrition courses which
include upper division courses such as; fundamentals of nutrition, the science of nutrition, and sport
nutrition. All of these courses have enabled me to become an expert in nutrition as it relates to diet as
well as the classification of nutrients, digestion, biochemical processes, and crop sustainability. In
addition to these courses, I have also taken chemistry and exercise physiology, both of which have
permitted me to have a greater understanding to help distinguish the process by which our bodies
consume, digest, metabolize, and store nutrients and how they effect our bodies (Thompson, Manore,
Vaughan, 2014). In this specific paper I have also been able to use my knowledge in sociology of sport

An Analysis Of The War
I am intervening before the novel, during World War 2. I am Paul s dad, John, when he was 20. He is
having an internal conflict as he wants to become a musician, however, his mother wants him to do
medicine.
Singer music notes at his desk. Kicks ground and throws music after singing notes in frustration.
La da da da da da da da da.
Sitting in bedroom at desk with music sheets and a textbook opened on desk. Stares at desk. Sad tone.
Music, my passion or medicine, the money. [Angrily] Why can t my just mother support me, it s my
life?
Looks up
I can always hear my mother s voice nagging me, John, stop playing that piano and do something
productive with your live. She has been very angry since father s death many, many years ago. ...

Sits in chair with sad expression.
I practiced on the same worn out piano as my father.
Looks to the right with simile.
Side by side, the only memory of my father and me together. I don t understand how mother cannot
recognize my desire for a connection with my father. The dream, I want to keep it alive.
Angry face audience about to cry
Why did she and the war have to ruin my dream? My piano teacher, Mr Brown, was deployed in the
war.
Start pacing upset.
I don t know if he will ever come back. Since we are poor he taught me in order to honour my late
father and his love of music. My father s death came as a shock to my mother. I was young, very
young and since then we haven t had a reliable source of income.
Sit in chair
Though I am technically perfect, my teacher told me I was missing Rubato. That without that I would
never become a great pianist, I didn t listen nor did I care. I knew I was great.
Stop and look to the front of room with worried expression
Was. I was great, but I don t know now. Yet, if I give up now, how will I ever know my potential.
Starts to pace with excitement
What if, I follow my mother s desirer for me in becoming a doctor and then after I start to earn eran
money. I hirer a teacher. Practice piano again and I can learn my true potential as a musician. This way
my mother can be proud of her son, helping within the war as a doctor.

Pros And Cons Of Eias For Landfills
Alternatives: As previously mentioned, Gupta et al. believe current methods of conducting EIAs are
ineffective. Therefore, they propose an unconventional method for conducting EIAs for landfill siting:
a multivariable calculation of implicated factors using a fuzzy relation, or fuzzy clustering. This
involves the attribution of a weight to each qualitative factor, in order to accurately assess the
environmental impacts of landfills. This method distinguishes itself from the others because it
accounts for the uncertainty caused by the expert s subjectivity, and for the lifetime of the landfill. The
result of this method is a fuzzy relation between frequency of occurrence and the impact on
environment [sic] considering the adverse consequence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is room for a lot of improvement in Quebec s waste management: currently, about half of
household waste is eliminated (MDDELCC, 10) which is not economically viable. To reach its
sustainability goal, the province drafted the Quebec policy for waste management 2011 2015. By the
end date, it aims to reduce household waste to 700kg/person and to increase the diversion rate of
paper, plastic, glass and metal scraps to 70%, and of organic waste to 60% (MDDELCC, 11). An
additional benefit of these propositions is the creation of hundreds of jobs (MDDELCC, 2011). The
plan, albeit optimistic, is still unclear about how to effectively implement waste recovery. In 2012, 6
years after the start of the City of Montreal s composting initiative, only 12% of organic waste was
being recovered (Bruemmer, 2014). Montreal plans on building two biomethanization plants (where
compost is converted into biogas), along with two composting facilities (Bruemmer, 2014). Four
proposed sites have been rejected due to public opposition while an existing one closed this summer.
Situated in Montreal s Southwest borough, the latter estimates that its yearly methane offset equals
800 000m3, which represents about 35 000 tonnes of carbon dioxide. This is worth nearly 500 000$ in
the Quebec cap and trade system (Compost Montreal,

  • 2. Pros And Cons Of Genetic Engineering Since the dawn of time, humans have pondered the very roots of their existence. Through religion, many filled the void of their origin with a creation story, but with relatively recent discoveries, the origin of humans has been revealed. Charles Darwin s ideas on natural selection and evolution led the way for this new facet of thought. His findings were widely rejected at first but paved the way for more progress. Shortly after, Gregor Mendel was able to prove inheritance with pea plants. A plethora of other discoveries throughout the twentieth century allowed for a process called genetic engineering. But, what is genetic engineering? By manipulating the recombination of DNA, scientists are able to change an organism. They have found that they can use viruses to inject therapeutic genes into humans. Through this process, people are now able to control specific genes in an organism for more desirable traits. This has been used in the industry of food, medicine, and in various other sciences. (Britannica, Genetic Engineering ) In the farming and food industries, the utilization of genetic engineering is very common. It began in the 1990s with cotton plants. Scientists discovered that its DNA could be manipulated to create beneficial changes. These changes included resistance to antibiotics, resistance to herbicide and introduction of more nutrients and vitamins ( History of Genetically Modified Foods, 2004). That s within the skate culture, and the value of a bump or bruise as a badge of honor in skate culture doesn t really apply to many other professions or sub cultures. Like many other colonization stories, concepts such as culture, religion, trade, and colonialism are tossed in a mix between virtues such as trust, acceptance, and fairness. Often times neglecting the latter of the mixture. The oddity of such unions is that the native people are generally tolerant with the foreigners... until the foreigner grows into the oppressor. Such is the case between the Native Americans and the European colonizers. Despite early collaboration, Native American tribes responded with great despise and animosity towards the expanse of European colonization. The initial contact between Native Americans and Europeans was rather easygoing. Both cultures didn t quite seem to understand each other and their ways. Nonetheless, both parties found methods to be partially reliant (for the Native Americans lesser than the former) on the other in ways that helped settle the original inept feelings. An example of such alliance was the start of Chesapeake colony, Virginia. Early settlements were dismantled by the inadequate environment and lack of food only until the collaboration with the Powhatan tribe were they able to then barely survive. With the exchange of survival, the Native Americans were given goods such as metal tools, objects and other modern goods that helped ease day to day Indian lifestyle. Electric Charge And The Electric Field EXPERIMENT #1: ELECTRIC CHARGE AND THE ELECTRIC FIELD PHY 2092 10 By: Kamal Aljohani Date Performed: 12 January 2015 Date Submitted: 30 January 2015 Lab Partners: Martynas Mickus Sean Small Instructor: Robert J Lucia INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this experiment is to analyze the static electricity, electrical charge, charge grounding, inducing charge, and electric polarization. We used two wands that created positive and negative charges when rubbed together one is blue and the other is white. When we used both wands, the electrometer almost read zero volts throughout the duration of the experiment. This proves that the negativity of the particles on the blue wand were equal to the positive charge of the particles on the white wand; so it cancelled each other out. While using the both wands we encountered an error. The voltage should have been zero when the wands was out the pail and not touching the pail; however the electrometer reading was 3 volt. This is most likely due to a random error in measurement due to a faulty electrometer or pail. The electrometer may have not been sensitive enough to pick up all the charged particles when the wands were not out the pail we should have repeated this so we can get accurate readings. We applied 2000 volts to one of the spheres. We grounded the aluminum wand placed it tangent to the charged sphere to collect particles. R2P is rather seen an international social, political and moral norm and even though it doesn t prohibit unilateral humanitarian intervention it does not grant States a legal right to intervene (2013: 13 14). According to Zyberi and Mason s analyses of the State responsibility in the context of R2P, they find it to have several different meanings and vary according to which perspective it s looked at from as the State and policies are influenced differently and the scope of obligations is different for a State s individual and collective responsibility (2013: 32 33). The political framework of R2P is therefore based on fundamental principles of international law and epitomises the humanitarian character of those laws that have been put in place to protect people in the world and their right to peace. Through the strategic alliance, the airline had an opportunity to expand and become large but at the same time they can lower their cost by creating the competitive advantage that is why Start Alliance opted for this option (Cojohari, 2015). 2.2 Marketing and Branding Airline behavior could not be explained effectively with changing cost structure. In the bottom line of any alliance marketing strategies and demand response are important. With Star Alliance, the airline can offer their consumers large and denser global network of airlines with smooth connections among airlines. • 27. The Pros And Cons Of Machine Learning Machine learning and Deep Learning Some machines are capable to acquire their own knowledge by extracting patterns from raw data, a phenomenon known as machine learning (ML) (Bengio, Ian and Aaron 2016). Without question, many aspects of modern society have been deeply impacted by these machine learning systems. Furthermore, ML claims to accomplish simple results that can be effortlessly understood by humans (Michie, et al. 1994). Outputs from these systems that are used in service systems include, but are not limited to offering customers new items and narrowing down their search based on their interests; language understanding, object recognition, speech perception, and identifying and favoring significant results of online searches (Yann , Yoshua and Geoffrey 2015). It is important to emphasize that even though human intervention is necessary for background knowledge, the operational phase is expected to be without human interaction (Michie, et al. 1994). Consequently, these systems must be able to learn through time. According to Alpaydin (2004), they must be able to evolve and optimize a performance criterion in order to adapt to the environmental changes to which they are exposed over time. These systems do that through the use of past experience or example data. Russell et al. (2004), classified machine learning tasks into three different groups based on the feedback available to the learning system and the nature of the learning signal: supervised learning, ... Gandhi were civil rights activists who practiced a form of movement to gain equal rights amongst their nation. King and Gandhi were most important for their allegiance to nonviolence. King demonstrated his notion of nonviolence in his letter titled, Letter from a Birmingham Jail , and Gandhi in his writing, from Non Violent Resistance . The two are closely related and share common and distinct themes; both held considerably comparable belief toward nonviolence, laws, and religion. As both understood the evil of oppression, King and Gandhi conveys that violence could not be used as the measure to achieve equality in their movements. Nonviolence was utilized by both King and Gandhi to bring focus to their oppressors evil actions and show the society that justice can be earned without violence. King used nonviolence as a weapon to stop racism, segregation, and injustice toward African American in the United States. King did a non violent campaign in Birmingham, as King stated, four basic steps: (1) collection of the facts to determine whether injustices are alive; (2) negotiation; (3) self purification; and (4) direct action (p.234). King believes, the tension created by direct action is the answer to receiving results. Negotiation is an ultimately more humane approach but allows less results. King concluded that direct action would create chaos that would open the door for negotiation. Similarly, Gandhi revealed a method of direct ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To date, only one study within the heart failure population has combined the theory of self care of chronic illness and Gibbs reflective cycle framework to evaluate the impact of guided reflection on self care behaviors (Sethares Asselin, 2017). Importantly, this study is the first to combine the two frameworks within the DM population. Based on statistical analyses and qualitative data from this study, there are opportunities for further exploration of the combined frameworks in future studies to illuminate the constructs of the self care theory and possibly theory/ instruments modification and development. In this study, guided reflection was found to improve DM knowledge which serves as a starting point for behavior change. Furthermore, guided reflection has been shown to positively impact self care behaviors (Mamykina et al., 2008; Sethares Asselin, 2017). Importantly, the targeted population was satisfied with the guided reflection intervention and requested that it be promoted among others with DM. In the passage, 518d, Plato discusses the true meaning of education vicariously through Socrates. Some literary mechanisms can be found in the passage and I will show how they fit in the text and how they contribute to the main themes of Plato s Republic. In the allegory Socrates gives an account of a man that breaks free from his bonds and makes his way out of the darkness into the outside world. His story represents a man s journey to enlightenment. To reach enlightenment a man must use education to break the bonds of ignorance and direct his sight towards true things that originate from the Form of Good. Man already has the capacity to see, he only needs guidance. Guidance is the job of the philosopher kings. After these kings have reached enlightenment it is their duty to travel back into the cave and educate some of the ignorant masses. Socrates says that wherever sight is set is what will be seen with the most clarity. If a man doesn t have his sight set on the right things, he can still be very clever but his sight is forced to serve evil ends, so that the sharper it sees, the more evil it accomplishes. (519a). Plato s Republic is a blueprint for his ideal society. In his republic education is something only attainable to the philosopher kings. It is beneficial for the philosopher kings to be very well educated so they will make good decisions while they are ruling the republic. The reason that no one else should receive such an elaborate education (in Plato s opinion) is because the rest of the people in the city only need to do what they are specialized in. There is room for a lot of improvement in Quebec s waste management: currently, about half of household waste is eliminated (MDDELCC, 10) which is not economically viable. To reach its sustainability goal, the province drafted the Quebec policy for waste management 2011 2015. By the end date, it aims to reduce household waste to 700kg/person and to increase the diversion rate of paper, plastic, glass and metal scraps to 70%, and of organic waste to 60% (MDDELCC, 11). An additional benefit of these propositions is the creation of hundreds of jobs (MDDELCC, 2011). The plan, albeit optimistic, is still unclear about how to effectively implement waste recovery. In 2012, 6 years after the start of the City of Montreal s composting initiative, only 12% of organic waste was being recovered (Bruemmer, 2014). Montreal plans on building two biomethanization plants (where compost is converted into biogas), along with two composting facilities (Bruemmer, 2014). Four proposed sites have been rejected due to public opposition while an existing one closed this summer. Situated in Montreal s Southwest borough, the latter estimates that its yearly methane offset equals 800 000m3, which represents about 35 000 tonnes of carbon dioxide. This is worth nearly 500 000$ in the Quebec cap and trade system (Compost Montreal, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
