What Are The Three Paradoxes Faced By Gustavsson At...
The importance of managing paradoxes increases with the complexity of organizational environments.
To successfully manage paradoxes organizational leaders must learn to deal with contradictions and
embrace incompatible forces, rather than choose between them (Belasen). Three management
paradoxes that Bjorn Gustavsson faces as Engineered Woods are the paradox of change and stability,
the paradox of individuals and teams, and the paradox of direction and empowerment. This essay will
discuss these three paradoxes faced by Gustavsson at Engineered woods. Engineered Woods is
seeking flexibility so they can adapt to a changing market and transition to a specialty commodity.
Gustavsson has to manage his pursuit of change in how the organization is managed, how it is
organized and whom is carrying it out. At the same time individuals are promoting resistance and the
need for stability in the work environment. Individuals wish to reduce uncertainty, and maintain a
stable self concept propelled by consistency in their actions (Leana Barry 2000). Individuals give their
best when they work in teams yet teams succeed when each individual pulls their own weight. In order
for Gustavsson to succeed in his change management strategy, he needs to shift the organization from
a vertical structure to a horizontal structure. He can breed more success and production if he can
create more self managed teams. The paradox of direction that Gustavsson faces is that he wants to
empower his

Jesus Depicted throughout Time
Many people have asked the question what did Jesus look like, was he tall, short, shaved or bearded.
Did he look different from everyone else? No one truly knows what the savior looks like because there
is nothing in the bible that gives a description of Jesus. But throughout the centuries people have
created images of what the Son of God through the eyes of the people of their time in order to keep the
faith and to educate and reflect how things were. The Roman Christian Art also known as byzantine
Art marks the beginning of religious art and the image of Jesus. Which emerged after Christianity
become the dominate religion in Rome around the 2nd century. One the oldest images of Christ comes
from the mid 3rd century, it is young Jesus as the Good Shepherd from the Catacombs of San Callisto.
In this fresco Jesus is portrayed as a young shepherd holding a sheep on his shoulders. A shepherd
guides and direct his sheep. This has a symbolic meaning, in the bible (John 10:1 21; Luke 15:1 7 and
11 32). Jesus represented as the good Shepard and we are his sheep. It also states that as the shepherd
he will look for the lost sheep (sinners) and rejoice when it is found. The painting explains how Jesus
will help protect and guide you in the right direction. This was a way of telling passages of the bible to
the people who were illiterate. Later on as we enter the early Middle Ages (5th 10th century) the
image of Jesus begins to be depicted in portrait. Christ panacrator is one

Pistachio Research Paper
Archaeology shows that pistachio seeds were a common food as early as 6750 BC.[2] Pliny the Elder
writes in his Natural History that pistacia, well known among us , was one of the trees unique to Syria,
and that the seed was introduced into Italy by the Roman Proconsul in Syria, Lucius Vitellius the Elder
(in office in 35 AD) and into Hispania at the same time by Flaccus Pompeius.[5] The early sixth
century manuscript De observatione ciborum ( On the observance of foods ) by Anthimus implies that
pistacia remained well known in Europe in Late Antiquity.[citation needed] Archaeologists have found
evidence from excavations at Jarmo in northeastern Iraq for the consumption of atlantic pistachio.[2]

The Ironic Heira Hierarchy In Measure For Measure
There is a certain structure of control between the characters in Shakespeare s Measure for Measure
that continually shifts, and never is this more pronounced than in the relationship/dialogues between
Angelo and Isabella. This structure creates a back and forth balance of power and not only affects the
dynamics between both characters, but more important, influences the development of the story.
Control is also, at least attempted, to be manifested externally by Angelo in his desires to control with
an iron fist unlike his predecessor, and Isabella in choosing to join a nunnery and lead a chaste life
away from the hedonism exhibited by the characters we meet in Vienna. Control is also questionable
when it seems internally lost by these characters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Notwithstanding the negative consequences that might ensue for challenging Angelo, O it is excellent
to have a giant s strength, but it is tyrannous to use it like a giant. (II, ii,113 4), and the inherent danger
in it and lambasting its perversion. She tells Angelo a truth about his position of power, which runs
parallel to his own aforementioned realization of it after having met Isabella, and how he immediately
thinks to manipulate and abuse it to his advantage. According to David K. Weiser s article, The Ironic
Heirarchy in Measure for Measure: Angelo is concerned only with the abstract crime committed and
the need for absolute decorum: There shall be order for t (II.ii.24). Self righteousness and irony are
very different things, of course. But as ironic as his actions may initially seem, he does however
exhibit truth when confronted by the power of the Duke when sentenced at the end of the play.
Isabella would rather let her brother die than give up her virginity, Before his sister should her body
stoop To such abhorred pollution. Then, Isabel live chaste, and brother die: More than our brother is
our chastity. (II, iv, 184 86) But surprises us all at the end by giving up her chaste lifestyle and marries

Many people utilize verbal communication, others prefer to do it by writing their feelings. Either way,
the objective of this is to communicate their ideas, feelings and even a way to event impulse a
movement. In addition, people utilize this forms of communication to express their most deep secrets
or the most traumatic events that may have to affect their life. In every society, we can see how people
can be part of a change, either in a positive or in a negative way. The decisions that are taking on a

analyzing this quote, we see how by ignoring the previous events that happen in that alley and not

how people need to act to promote a positive change on people mind and the way they behave. Once
we review the content of the quote we can see how by acting in order to start a change that can
improve the lifestyle of the people that can benefit them. After analyzing both quotes we see how
important is to take the right decision which in many cases may be to take action in an effort to
stimulate a positive change in the way people react to different scenarios. In the first quote becoming

Examples Of Conformity In The Outsiders
The humans nature is always following other people without thinking. People are afraid to be different
from others. When some people or some groups of people trying to be unique and different like the
Hippies people will think they are disgusted. This is because power of conformity is very strong in the
society. In every big city or even small town influence of the conformity were shown up. In The
Outsiders, conformity is everywhere in this small town which is located in the south of U.S. Tulsa,
Oklahoma. In this story are all about Greasers and Socials. The conformity in this story is showed up
by the symbols that are described personality and social class of the characters in the story. In this
story the conformity shows up mostly by the symbol. The blue Mustang in the story is a symbol that
represents the Socials. In the story the blue Mustang describes the dangerous to the greasers but lastly

is when Johnny helped Ponyboy from the Socials and when he killed Bob. I killed him, he said slowly.
I killed that boy. Bob, the handsome Soc, was lying there in the moonlight, doubled up and still. A
dark pool was growing from him, spreading slowly over the blue white cement. I looked at Johnny s
hand. He was clutching his switchblade (p.49).The switchblade can represent balanced of the fight
because when they have a fight the Socials always have a more numbers of the people than the
greasers so the greasers use the switchblade for fight with the Socials. The switchblade can represent
the conformity because every greaser always takes it with them when they go

1920 American Gangsters
Gangs have existed in the United States for over 200 years. It all started when the first immigrants
came to the U.S.A. Most of them came for a better life but many of them ended up in poverty. The
first gangs were formed among poor adolescents who grouped together for the sake of socialisation
and protection. They were of the same race or the same ethnic background. The first known gang
specialized in crimes was called The Five Points . They consisted of Irish immigrants and was
established in New York City. They dressed in a specific way and used monikers or nicknames.
Another early gang were the Forty Thieves . Their gang leader was Edward Coleman and they formed
in 1826. New York City s early gangs had an easy time of it because of ... Show more content on

While they might sport the tattoos, the jackets, colors, and signs, often these members are only
tangentially affiliated. According to much of the available literature, tattoos also serve as a badge of
protection against coercion from other gangs (Jackson and McBride 1985). In the current study,
tattoos signify a number of different and personal matters, only one of which gang membership and a
warning to others. At any rate, it is very clear that some youths engage in more gang activity than
others; some might be called the wannabes who move out of the influence of the gang on the basis of
whether or not a program of interest intercepts drawing them completely away from the gang. Within
the wannabes there are many little brothers and sisters, sometimes referred to as pee wees. However,
on separate and certain occasions they are sent home by their older siblings when something was
about to happen for which only older members were being mobilized. Moreover, I am going to go into
explicit detail on two Hispanic gangs The Mexican Mafia, the Nuestra Familia, and the Latin Kings.

Descriptive Essay About Soccer City
Hidden deep in the streets of Sunny Ridge, a neighborhood, lies a whole new soccer world open to
everyone. Soccer City brings an exhalating sports atmosphere that anyone that is willing to learn to
play soccer can excel. As guests walk in through the doors of the entrance at soccer city all they hear
are the thunderous roars of a soccer ball being kicked against the walls. The trainlike whistles of the
referees stopping the ball for a foul, all while trying to calm the opposing teams from getting into an
argument. The smell of hard work, but mostly sweat of the players trying to score for their teams.
These are just a few of the components that makes soccer city such a wonderful place unlike any
other. Soccer City, with all of its components, really outlines the true identity of soccer and how
everyone of all ages can come together to play a game and work towards a common goal; to score
goals.
When walking through the entrance at soccer city the complete floorplan of the whole indoor complex
can be seen below. In the center of the complex, there are benches to rest on, and a concession stand
facing right in that direction. This encourages players to sit down and take a bite as they anxiously
wait for their game or just for visitors grab a snack and watch soccer. Since the benches and the
concession area is centered in the middle of the complex on both sides there is a soccer field that
allows for the accommodation of eating while watching these warlike games going on as players seem
to fight each other vigorously chasing down a ball that keeps on rolling. This effect of having the
concession stand allows the aroma of food to be around in the air and it makes the customers that
come to ply soccer also eat at soccer city and not elsewhere which further increases sales at soccer city
by people buying food there between games and not eating at any other restaurants Upon walking
through the doors, the loud chatter of people urgently calling for teammates to get the ball, or the
thunderous sounds the ball makes when it hits against the field walls soon fills ears and connects
people instantly with the live atmosphere. This noisy atmosphere isn t for everyone but for those
rowdy soccer players this is paradise.

Identity Reflection Paper
Identity is a complex aspect of someone s life. It is a combination of how people view others, how
someone views himself, and how their community is seen by others. These still can be split even more
into infinite dimensions which are combined to create a unique identity. Identity is also an inconstant
part of life as it is manipulated by the people, environment, and activities at the moment. My identity
started when I was born as I was given a race based on my ancestry and genetics and a gender based
on my anatomy. These parts have remained constant throughout my life, unlike most of the many
dimensions that my identity is composed of. Although I don t always think about these dimensions as
the primary source of my identity, I believe that people who have just met me for the first time
consider this to be one of the biggest aspects of the identity they have given me. As people learn more
about me, their vision of my identity changes as the internal central aspects begin to be noticed. I
consider the key components of my identity to be my education, region, religion, and gender. These
four dimensions have been central to the vision I have of myself as well as the vision others hopefully
have of me once they know me well. I believe that these four dimensions represent my identity,
because based on my normal context these are the aspects that I introduce myself with. Throughout
my life, my education has remained the most central part of my identity despite everything that has

Antidepressants Should Be Treated Using Talk Therapy
I feel trapped , I feel empty , I feel hopeless and numb , are all ways that people have described their
depression. Usually this would be followed with going to the doctor and expressing how the person
feels and then the doctor prescribing an antidepressant. The question that stands is does everyone on
antidepressants actually need to be on antidepressants? Antidepressants should be reserved for the
cases and people who really need them rather than someone who has situational depression,
premenstrual dysphoric disorder, or even seasonal affective disorder, all types of depression that can
be treated using talk therapy rather than medication (Illiades, 7 Side Effects of Antidepressants).
Depression is a chemical imbalance of the brain, usually when the part of the brain that produces
serotonin produces the chemical in lower quantities (Rivas). Every year Americans consume more anti
depressants than any other nation in the world and from the years 1988 1994, the use of anti
depressants increased by 400% (Ross). Statistically speaking, women have a 70% chance of
developing depression over men and about 13% of the women who have children would develop
postpartum depression (Holms). There is no doubt that depression impacts a large amount of people
and affects the wallets of those with depression. Globally, 350,000,000 people suffer from some form
of depression, of those affected with depression; $80,000,000,000 is spent on antidepressants and
therapy (Holms). There are

Biography of Samuel F.B. Morse Essay
Samuel F. B. Morse was one of the greatest inventors of the 19th century; he was the invention of the
singled wire telegraph machine that influenced the Industrial Revolution in America and the Morse
code led way to many future innovations. Samuel Morse was not just an inventor; he was also a
painter that did works such as The Chapel of the Virgin at Subiaco and The Gallery of the Louvre
1831 1833 to portraits of famous politicians such as John Adams. Samuel F. B. Morse was born in
Charleston, Massachusetts on April 17, 1791. He was the son of a geographer and pastor Jedidiah

Samuel Morse ran into problems during the development of the telegraph machine, the telegraph
machine could only transmit information for a little bit more than a few hundred yards due to the loss
of current over long distances. Not until Professor Leonard Gale, of New York University, that helped
improved Morse s design that used superior batteries and electromagnets that enabled it to transfer
currents over great distances. After the help of Gale, Samuel Morse had perfected his telegraph; it was
able to send signals over great distances. Although his Journey wasn t over, he now had to send his
work to Washington where he awaited to be approved by Congress. He attended both sessions of
Congress, from 1837 to 1838 and another one in 1842 to 1843. During the last day of the session,
which was March 3, 1843, he spent the whole day and part of the evening in the Senate chamber,
anxiously watching the progress of the passing of the various bills (Morse) to watch the bill get
passed, he was awarded $30,000 to set up the very first telegraph machine from Washington to
Baltimore. His first telegraph machine was made from household instruments that consisted of an old
picture or canvas frame fastened to a table; the wheels of an old wooden clock [...] and a short circuit
of a wire, embracing the helices of the electro magnet connected with the positive and negative poles
of the battery and terminating the mercury cups (Morse). His apparatus was so crude

Reflection On Entrepreneurship
In the world of tutoring, there are an abundant amount of ways that one can go about teaching a
student. Although this is true, there are some ways that tend to work better than others. Tutoring has a
large amount of do s and don ts that we as tutors should make sure we take into account before we
begin our interaction with the students to which we are tutoring. Before coming into this internship, I
had a very general knowledge of tutoring, as I have been a tutor in previous years. After this week s
reading and videos that were assigned, I have gained a deeper knowledge of what exactly is expected
out of a tutor in and out of every session. Before diving into this week s reading and videos, there
were already aspects of being a tutor that I knew were required. This would include: having a plan
before every tutoring session and being patient with every student that you tutor. When it comes to
having a plan before every tutoring session, I feel like that is something that is one of the most
important aspects of being a successful tutor. When, as a tutor, you know the student you are working
with, it is beneficial to make sure that you prepare ahead of time for the session with that student. If
the student has provided you beforehand with the topics and papers that they are wanting to work, it is
imperative to look into them and start working on revising them before you meet with the student. If
you do this, and you know ahead of time what exactly you are needing to speak with the student
about, you will be able to use your allotted time efficiently. As a tutor, if you go about this approach
with any and every session that you can, you will be able to provide each student that you are able to
tutor. Patience is also something that is extremely useful and needed in tutoring. Often times, a student
will not understand what you are trying to teach them the first time. If you go about this in a negative
way, no learning from the student will be able to be had. Although that is true, if you approach each
session with an ample amount of patience, you will be able to teach the student the different subjects
that you are intending on teaching them. Without patience, trying to be a tutor is virtually impossible.

Comparing My Husband And I Cultures
For my sociology project, I decided to compare and contrast my husband and I cultures. In doing so I
discovered we shared many cultural norms and tradition although there was some noticeable
difference in terms of how our communities are run within our defined societies. My husband hails
from a small country on the coast of West Africa named Sierra Leone. That s a huge contrast from the
Hmong people who don t have a land to call home. Our people through centuries of prosecution have
scatted throughout Asia and America with the vast majority still residing in our ancestral land of
China. Despite this, however, Hmong people like the people of Sierra Leone continue to possess a
strong sense of identity and culture. Often Hmong communities in the United State take on a specific
identity, not unlike American Indians reservation or other sub cultural community in The United State.
Conversely, although the people of Sierra Leone have a nation filled with rich tradition and culture but
continue to be inundated by a western culture which could be having an adverse effect. Ultimately our
discussion highlights that both of our people ultimately want to move forward as one to a better and
prosper future.
My husband and I discussed the structure of family in our culture. While mine was a patriarch system,
his, however was the matriarch. Like most Asian culture the male is often the head of the family and
hold the most status. The people of Sierra Leone, however, hold the

A Study On Big Five Factor Model
A study was conducted to test using the Big Five Factor Model (Costa McCrae, 1995) to measure
whether different personalities can or cannot be observed with a group of 1006 Inuit children from
Northern Canada who spoke the Inuktitut language between the ages of 9 to 12 year old who were
recruited for the study. The International Personality Item Pool (IPIP) measure scale was used and the
five item measure scales selected were: (Extraversion, Neuroticism, Openness, Agreeableness
Conscientiousness) , (Goldberg, 1999). The study produced results that Conscientiousness scored the
highest amongst the Inuit children more than expected. This could have been due to the nurturing and
parenting styles of the Inuit community. There is a need for further studies to be conducted with the
parents, caregivers, and educators of the Inuit children to confirm whether their personality findings
was correct. Extended research may have findings of significant differences depending on the
researchers, questionnaires and the interpretation of the data.
Structure and Measurement of Intelligence, Method and Results
Introduction:
The purpose of the study was to assess if the Big Five Factor Model (FFM) structure was appropriate
for testing the Inuit children personality using the IPIP questionnaires.

Festival of Faiths in Louisville, Kentucky
Festival of Faiths in Louisville, Kentucky. This festival encourages calls on different houses of
worship and sponsors lectures on world religions. The author refers to several advocates of religious
reconciliation, including the Dalai Lama, Martin Buber, Abraham Heschel, Thomas Merton, and Pope
John Paul II. Interestingly, Professor Niebuhr seems to lack a basic understanding of the religions to
which he refers. For example, he at times misunderstands the scriptures he cites. The fundamental
teaching of the Bhagavad Gita, for example, is not selfless.... duty, which he is seemingly paralleling
to the Protestant concept of noblesse oblige. But it is indeed the more demanding Hindu practice
(yoga) of disinterested action, which demands renunciation of the fruits of any deed. Professor
Niebuhr views interfaith dialogue as a means to overpower the absolutism of fundamentalism in all
faith traditions. And yet, these are exactly the people who are the most reluctant to participate in
discussion with those of other faiths or even other Christian denominations. Professor Niebuhr sees
interfaith understanding as a civic discipline, akin to honesty in paying taxes. While many Americans
must travel a distance to discover a Sikh or Native American with whom to engage in interfaith
dialogue, Muslims are another subject. The bibliography as well as the notes is a good resource for
further reading. These resources are especially significant for a book on interfaith dialogue as

Hieronymus Bosch, born Jheronimus Van, was a Dutch painter during the fifteenth and sixteenth
centuries who is renowned for his use of surrealism, and often morbid detail, to convey his
interpretations of religion as it pertained to the society he lived in. Little is known of his personal life
and, in fact, many of the works attributed to him can not actually be proven to be his original work.
Although Bosch could be compared to other well known surrealist painters such as Salvador Dali, he
is primarily known for his use of triptych and fantastic attention to detail that gives him his own
unique, recognizable and strange style. His most famous works include The Garden of Earthly
Delights, The Haywain and Hell, and all serve as somewhat of a social commentary and personal ...

In essence, The Garden of Earthly Delights, perhaps the most famous of his works, consists of three
individual panes in a triptych that tell the story of mankind s evolution from the beginning in the
Garden of Eden and shows society s downfall and eventual path to Hell. The Haywain and Hell are
lesser known but both similarly illustrate various aspects of Bosch s viewpoint regarding human sin
and the ultimate result of such sin. Bosch is certainly a very unique and fascinating artist and this
paper will discuss the detail and potential meanings of the works previously mentioned, their
relevance to the world at the time of their creation and their continued relevance throughout history.
As discussed in the introduction, The Garden of Earthly Delights is the most well known and most
likely the most interesting and significant of Bosch s works. The first panel of the triptych depicts and
Adam and Eve standing with Jesus in the Garden of Eden. This illustrates man s original purity but,

Kappa Alpha Theta And CASA Case Study
I am a Theta. I am for the child. As an undergraduate, pledging Theta at Phi chapter of Kappa Alpha
Theta has provided me with many opportunities to contribute to my community, especially through
our philanthropy work for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). For 25 years, Kappa Alpha
Theta and CASA have shared a common belief that every abused or neglected child should be loved,
have a safe home, and have the opportunities to succeed. A CASA provides a voice for children during
the juvenile court system. As children move from one foster home to the next, consumed by the legal
system they are too young to understand; a CASA becomes the one constant these children have.
CASA provides a helping hand to these children; they are fundamentally an extra set of eyes and ears
for these children. By getting to know the child, understanding his or her needs, a CASA advocates
and helps find the best permanent home for the child. I became aware of CASA during my first

There are thousands of children like children of CASA and even adults who do not have access to

There are certain factors that come to play when it comes to setting up a promotion strategy. Bennett
carefully explains these factors:
The nature of the product should be important when it comes to setting up a promotion strategy.
Bennett says that the general rule is while promoting consumer goods and services one should heavily
rely on advertising and sales promotion; while industrial products depend on personal selling, or use
of brochures or catalogs (1988, p.520).
The product life cycle should also be considered. The life cycle of a product includes its introduction
to the market, growth, maturity and final decline. New goods should make more use of promotion
since the marketers would want people to know that that product is on the market. During the growth
stage promotion efforts should be even more vigorous due to the fact that competition has entered the
picture. When the product has matured competition has probably stabilized and its consumer demand
has decreased this is when marketers should use elements of the promotion mix such as advertising to
remind or reinforce consumers attitudes about the product. The decline stage of the lifecycle marketers
should set a much smaller promotion budget so as to secure all possible profit (Bennett, 1988, p.521).
The purchase process also comes to play in the promotion strategy. When consumers are learning

An Investigation Into Response For Disaster Using...
An Investigation into Response to Disaster Using Qualitative Methods
Abstract
This study investigated the accounts of individuals involved in the London underground bombings in
2005. Throughout this investigation, thematic analysis was conducted on six eyewitness accounts,
highlighting their feelings and actions, which came about as a result of the incident. From these
accounts I obtained 4 key themes, which were consistent components of the six accounts. Evidently, I
found that the two most common themes were helping behaviour and the panic myth. This was rather
unexpected, as initially, I expected to find irrational and helpless behaviour, due to the panic and stress
of being trapped in a bombed underground. To conclude, the investigation illuminated the concept of
helping others before helping ones self. Thus, contradicting the concept of survival of the fittest, as in
this case the fittest were those who took it upon themselves to assist other passengers in need.
Therefore, highlighting the power of empathy which was risen with experiencing the disaster.
Introduction
Terrorist attacks are a consistent global occurrence. The 2005 London underground bombings was an
attack which caused largest mass fatality occurrence in the UK since World War 2. As a result the
comfort and use of public transport in the UK was greatly impacted. Research into the fatalities and
physical repercussions of tragedies are amplified globally. For instance it is considered factual that the

Immanuel Kant s Ethics Of Pure Duty and John Stuart...
Immanuel Kant s The Grounding For The Metaphysics of Morals and John Stuart Mill s Utilitarianism
Immanuel Kant and John Stuart Mill are philosophers who addressed the issues of morality in terms of
how moral traditions are formed. Immanuel Kant has presented one viewpoint in The Grounding For
The Metaphysics of Morals that is founded on his belief that the worth of man is inherent in his ability
to reason. John Stuart Mill holds another opinion as presented in the book, Utilitarianism that is
seemingly in contention with the thoughts of Kant. What is most distinctive about the ethics of
morality is the idea of responsibilities to particular individuals. According to Kant and Mill, moral
obligations are not fundamentally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Or more clearer stated as better to be Socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied , as the fool would only
be of a different opinion because he did not know both sides of the question. By this statement, Mill
seems to have rejected the identification of the concept happiness with pleasure and the absence of
pain and the concept unhappiness with pain and the absence of pleasure, as found in Bentham s works.
Although his position was based on the maximization of happiness, he distinguished between
pleasures that are higher and lower in quality.
Mill s principle of utility or the greatest happiness principle seeks for the logical rationality of ethics
through the consequences of actions as the consideration determining their morality, thus the
acquisition of happiness as opposed to the avoidance of pain. Utilitarianism may be viewed as an
instance of a more general theory of right consequentialism, which holds that right and wrong can
only be assessed by the goodness of consequences. This general kind of theory can perhaps be most
easily understood by considering the form of consequentialism. Consequentialism is that an act is right
if, of those available to the agent at the time, it would produce the greatest overall net value in the end.
Utilitarian views are based around the concept of attaining

Success And Success Of Success
Imagine walking down the street and seeing a pure white 2017 Mercedes Benz E Class parked in front
in of a large house. One thing that may enter your mind is that whoever owns this must have money.
You begin to wonder what he or she does for a living. Looking at the house, then at the car you
conclude that this person must be famous; therefore, successful. As you stand there gawking at the
house and car someone exits the front door and you recognize it s your friend. Both of you engage in
conversation, and you re overly excited about this new car and home and he just remains cool about it.
To him the house is just a place to stay and the car is just a thing to drive, but to you these things
represent reaching a level of success. What is success? Success is a term with many definitions.
Webster s dictionary defines success in four different ways: (1) the favorable or prosperous
termination of attempts or endeavors; (2) the attainment of wealth, position, honors or the like; (3) a
successful performance or achievement; and (4) a person or thing that is successful. Despite the
seeming clear definitions of the word, it s different for each individual. However, out of the four
meanings, many only associated the word with definition number two. Society says success is
determined by how much money one makes or the level of fame achieved. Although society equates
power, prestige, and wealth to success, there is a problem in society s view of success and Webster s

Does Playing Sports Help Your Child Succeed In The Future...
Dear Parents/Guardians of students in Amery School District,
Some think that competitive sports are bad or almost terrible for kids while others think it is an
opportunity for children. It is clear that sports are good for young adults because it can help them be
more successful in school and in the future because there will be pressure. One reason is that children
tend to do better academically when they are in a competitive sport. A paragraph from the article Does
playing sports as a child help you become successful in life? By Matthew Edward Simco a

The majority of jobs involve working with other people. If a child develops good teamwork and
leadership skills early on in life, he/she will be better off later in life when it matters most. This
suggests that by playing sports teenagers can learn to be leaders and working hard in school (2016). In
addition, an experienced sports coach wrote the article How Sports can Help Your Child Succeed in
the Future in this article he found a survey that Minnesota State High School League study took. He
states As kids get a little older . . . the correlation between sport and success becomes more palpable. A
Minnesota State High School League study found that student athletes are more than twice as likely to
graduate than non athletes. They also showed to have a higher average GPA (2.84) than non athletes
(2.68,) and were absent from school fewer days per year. This supports the idea that teens that are
involved in sports have a higher grade point average or have higher grades than non athletic teens, so
those teens that are in sports will have a chance of receiving scholarships. (2014) Likewise, Steve

Biologically Enhancing Soldiers
Our ability to upgrade the bodies of soldiers through drugs, implants, and exoskeletons may be
upending the ethical norms of war as we ve understood them.I first saw in the movie, Captain
America. The only difference now is that this possibility is slowly becoming a possible reality. The
possibilities are endless by doing this to soldiers, whom are willing of going thru the process. From
having soldiers that don t need sleep or only need to eat 1 MRE ( Meal Ready to Eat) a week. Almost
any idea we could think of in biologically improving a soldier, could actually happen, and will only

This idea is a win win for both the military and US population by simply how it saves money and
food.
The use of human enhancement technologies by the military is not new. Broadly construed,
vaccinations could count as an enhancement of the human immune system, and this would place the
first instance of military human enhancement (as opposed to mere tool use) at our very first war, the
American Revolutionary War in 1775 1783. George Washington, as commander in chief of the
Continental Army, ordered the vaccinations of American troops against smallpox, as the British Army
was suspected of using the virus as a form of biological warfare. Having said that, how can one argue
that this isn t a safe or legal action due to the fact that the first President. George Washington, gave the
orders to due so?
Due to these enhancements being biologically, and one of the ideas is enhancing soldiers to not feel
pain or possibly even fear. Everyone is aware that war is a terrifying place. Imagine an army of
soldiers that do not feel pain or even fear itself. Being able to take bullets without even flinching.
Also, having the possibility of giving someone the ability to not feel fear would advance our military
to an indescribable level. By not feeling fear, soldiers decision making would speed up, and be more

Speech On Plastics
Year 10 English
Language Analysis Essay
In a response to a recent rise in the number of plastic bags, debate has resurfaced in the media
regarding the extensive use and deposition of plastic bags. Stakeholders which include the Australian
Retailers Association, governments of different states and various legislations have implemented
measures to reduce the total number of plastic bags that are being consumed and eternally
contaminated. The wider implications include, soaring death rates of a number of marine animals and
the exponential cost on recycling plastic bags. In the opinion piece titled, Forget, reuse and recycle.
Let s flat out reject plastic bags, which appeared on 31 August 2017 in the Courier Mail, author Jane
Fynes Clinton contends in a controlled and authoritative tone that the use of plastic bags are an
ongoing concern and change that is necessary is disregarded. Dr Clinton has put forward this article to
citizens of Australia, local supermarkets, governments and institutes.
Establishing with outrage and melancholy, Clinton argues that plastic bags do not just contaminate the
oceans, but also violate the environmental terms and affect many marine organisms. The author s
convincing use of active voice, highlighting that, change is coming, but we are hastening frustratingly,
not only asserts a sense of guilt in the reader, but also seeks to reinforce that we as humans continue to
oscillate on whether we should protect marine life that we need for the future. It is now becoming
ubiquitous. In a frustrated manner, the author employs the reader s sense of fear that, the changes are
going to bite hard some creatures. This phrase embeds a a frank sentiment in the audience who are
stubborn to change and incline to their negative opinions, while also urging our support the contention
by creating an appeal to authority. Moreover, the context is heightened by her reference to
supermarkets chains announcing a bag ban. Moreover, in the following sentence, It is frightening,
appeals to the audience s sense of fear. This encourages the reader to think about the consequences of
the millions of plastic bags floating in our precious oceans. The inclusion of the image of a person

How Did George Jefferson Influence Pop Culture
George Jefferson is a late 90 s television icon, brought to life by Sherman Hemsley. A husband, father,

s importance goes beyond the existence of his fictional depiction. He played a role in branding a social

The Effectiveness of ASPCA s Commercial Essay
In 2010 the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) came out with a

proven, simply by watching the reactions of the commercial s viewers. For those who have never seen
the video it has a very sad and morose tone to it. The commercial begins with showing pictures and
videos of suffering animals with the song Angel playing in the background. While this is going on the

While those clips are being shown, the song In the Arms of an Angel by Sarah McLachlan is being
played in the background. Slides with different statistics are being shown as well. The song In the
Arms of an Angel is the major aspect of the commercial that really sets the tone. The tone of the song
is depressing and gloomy but grabs the attention of the audience at the same time. The main point of
the commercial is to convince the audience to be an angel , by saving the abused animals dying in the
shelters. The song used is a perfect tool to convince the audience to be an angel and help the animals.
Even though the music is a large part of setting the tone, the clips and pictures are equally as moving.
Showing pictures of abused and suffering animals is a great way to get the audience s attention and
cause them to become sympathetic to the animals. Very few people in the world are unfazed when
they see a video or picture of a helpless and suffering dog or cat. I looked at a lot of the related videos
on YouTube and many of them are reaction videos. The videos show the audience s reaction to the
commercial. In more than 99 percent of the videos that I saw the viewer is in tears at the end. If a

An Integrative Typology Of Personality Assessment For...
When it comes to selecting an employee for a job position, personality comes into play on account of
the fact that it can affect behavior in the workplace. Whether positive or negative effects, it is
important for the possibility of aggressive behavior to be considered as to avoid hiring persons who
prove to be dishonorable toward the business through their negative actions. After reading An
Integrative Typology of Personality Assessment for Aggression: Implications for Predicting
Counterproductive Workplace Behavior, the authors heavily emphasize two cognitions: explicit and
implicit. Their main concentration for this particular study involves aggression and how to properly
test it using self report as well as a type of integrative typology. The implicit cognition is not
accessible to consciousness and therefore measurable only by indirect means, suggesting that testing
for aggressiveness requires an indirect measurement... integrated with a self report (page 723). The
study sets out to prove the validity of these methods as a useful tool for businesses to determine the
capabilities, whether positive or negative, of their potential or current employees.
To help better understand the types of decisions being made in terms of aggression, the authors
categorize employees into three sections: manifest aggressives, prosocials, latent aggressives, and
overcompensating prosocials (page 724). Both latent aggressives and prosocials believe themselves to

proactive and reactive. Once a positive correlation between the two types of aggression was

However, there should also be non overlapping/non correlated factors contributing as well, as reactive
and proactive aggression have different predictors, associations and temperamental and physiological

correlation factoring in the possible overlap of physical aggression.
Methods
Sample. The participants of this study were 6 year olds (N= 72.7 months) selected from another
current study, the Quebec Newborn Twin longitudinal Study. They initially enrolled 648 pairs of twins
but the final sample size was 172 twins (55 monozygotic girls, 48 monozygotic boys, 33 dizygotic
girls, and 36 dizygotic boys) after excluding data from different sex twins and twins who were in the
same class (which might indicate exaggerated similarities between the twins if rated by the same

worldwide because of much controversy surrounding the book s depiction of underage sex, drinking,
profanity, and tobacco use. However, Catcher should be taught in American high schools because the
book includes many controversial subjects surrounding teenagers, including depression, suicide, social
isolation, and teenage angst, all of which many students can relate to and identify with. Readers of the
book can learn important lessons about life, perception, and dealing with our emotions.
Including the book in an academics course is a good idea because readers of all ages can learn a lot
about issues surrounding teenagers. For example: It is interesting to see how the problems surrounding
the youth of the 50 s are some of the very same problems affecting the youth of today. Although a
much simpler time, some teenagers growing up in the early 1950 s faced depression, social anxiety,
and diversion, as do some of the youth of today. Some of the problems we face today are nothing new,
they have been around for decades. Although today, we do not have the pressing issues of the Cold
War and Korean war, just as back then they did not have the issues of terrorism or the new Snapchat
update taking an extra hour to download. It just goes to show that time cannot change everything.
Holden, like some teenagers, has a very

Literary Analysis Of The Poem Morte DArthur
At first the poem Morte d Arthur, or the The Epic. The speaker says he is going to or is at the home of
Francis Allen on Christmas Eve. Also there are the people and Holmes; the poet, Everard Hall; as the
host. They gather around the wassail bowl (hot mulled cider) and discuss how the honor seems gone
from Christmas. The speaker is tired from his day of ice skating and falling, and he dozes off, waking
to the parson lamenting the general lack of faith throughout the world. Francis jokes and says he holds
faith in Everard, and Everard responds by saying he has faith in the cider. The speaker asks Everard
what became of his great gift of poetry that was so evident in college, and Francis says that Everard
had been working on twelve books about King Arthur but threw them into the fire. It seems that
Everard thought nothing new was said and the books were mere Homeric echoes, nothing worth.
Francis says he has saved one book from the fire. The speaker s ears prick up, and he remembers the
talent of his friend. After some urging, the poet begins to read. The noise of battle goes on all day. All
of the men of the Round Table have fallen in Lyonesse. King Arthur has also been wounded, and his
last knight, Sir Bedivere, brings him to a chapel near the field in the barren land. The King speaks to
Bedivere about the severing of the company of knights, the men he loved, and how they will never
talk again of lordly deeds in Camelot. He tells Bedivere to take his sword

Stereotypes In The Violin
The Violin is a movie that begins how the movie ends, kind of like how Pulp Fiction a notorious
movie for doing this, starts off with how the movie ends then at the end the movie all comes together.
The Violin displays the lives of a grandfather (Plutarco), father (Genaro) , and son (Lucio) that first
start off by playing music asking for money, no one seems interested in giving them money. As day
turns into night Genaro goes into a type of bar to get fire arms, at first this is confusing but as the story
progresses we understand that a rebellion against soldiers that are raiding towns and kicking citizens
out of the town. Plutarco decides to try to get an inside scoop on what the soldiers are planning by
going back to the town where his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like the movie Frida, it is about the famous Mexican woman painter that was fluent in Spanish, but
the movie was Hollywood washed out and was spoken in English for majority of the movie. It was
really hard to believe that these fluent Spanish speakers would rather speak English in a movie about
Mexican culture and art. With that being said, The Violin has more authenticity to it just by simply
having Latino characters that also speak Spanish, it gives that authenticity and also makes the setting
seem more real. It is a lot better when Latinos play Latino roles because representation matters, if we
have Anglo Saxon actors play Latino roles this is going to suppress many young Latinos self worth.
The self worth goes down because when they see an actor with heavy European features playing a
Latino character it breeds this self hate to a generation that they wish that they had these features
because that s what Hollywood deems as worthy . The director hit the nail on the head with this movie
and made it so authentic that I feel like this is was a page ripped out of a history book. It really sparks
a conversation to be started, and when a director contributes positively to the conversation then they
have done their job

Case Brief
I: Elements of the crime
Mr. Jeffrey Skilling was one of three executives at Enron Corporation that were indicted for
manipulating financials to show the public inflated numbers about Enron s profitability. By showing
these numbers to the public they were trying to mislead the public into thinking the company was
more profitable than it really was. Mr. Jeffrey Skilling was convicted by a Texas federal district court
of conspiracy, securities fraud, making false representations to auditors, and insider trading. Mr.
Skilling had been the C.E.O. of Enron Corp. Mr. Skilling appealed, he argued he was prosecuted by
the government under an invalid legal theory and that the jury he had was biased.

Mr. Skilling had been the C.E.O. of Enron Corp. Mr. Skilling appealed, he argued he was prosecuted
by the government under an invalid legal theory and that the jury he had was biased.
III. Issues
Mr. Skilling argued that voir dire lasted only five hours and did not sufficiently question jurors. This
argument from Mr. Skilling failed because the record from the court showed that voir dire was
completed properly. Mr. Skilling also argued that the court should have never tried him in Houston.
Mr. Skilling pointed out prior cases where the Court decided that due to extreme media coverage there
was a possibility of juror prejudice that required the courts to change the venue. However, I believe
that Mr. Skilling s case differs from these prior cases which were all in small communities, had media
coverage that showed the defendant confessions, and trials that occurred right after the crime and
media coverage.
I also believe that Skilling s jury acquitted him of several charges, due to this face I believe that it is
very unlikely that there was any juror prejudice. Even though the media coverage of Skilling seems to
all be positive, I do not believe that it was not to the necessary level to show that there would be juror
prejudice. Due to all of these reasons, I do not believe that the district court made any errors by
denying Skilling s request for a venue change.
IV. Holding (the final decision)
Mr. Skilling moved to have his trial transferred

Analysis Of Tongues By John Lyons
Out of curiosity, two friends decide to sneak through the back door of a recently deserted old mansion.
They explore in silence for fear of the unknown. The first person ahead constantly looks back at the
second person. What is bound to go through the second person s mind? Is it unsafe ahead? Is
something wrong? What is the person ahead trying to communicate? That is an example of how a
horse would feel when led by a human who looks back at him. Remember, horses rely on good
leadership for survival. So, with the human constantly looking back, it tells the horse that the person is
not safe to follow. The human is not a leader. Leadership is guiding another with confidence. Clear
communication achieves harmony with the horse through body language ... Show more content on

Humans typically think of horses as just animals. Firstly, horses are intelligent creatures with different
personalities, abilities, and sensitivities. Humans should realize that each horse has a different need
and that each training requirement is different. In the second place, people often comment that their
horses are too senseless to need a choice. A while back, I read a story about a mare who was dying
from fighting an illness and exhaustion. Before she died, she walked for days across exposed moors
leading her foal to the safety of a farm where she died less than twenty four hours later. She died after
knowing her foal was safe. Does that sound like a senseless horse? A horse with that much
intelligence, to have no choice during training? It is inconceivable. Horses are not incapable of
understanding communication; it is up to the human not to send out mixed signals. In the third place,
when the human sends the horse away during equine training, the person is giving the horse a choice.
Either the horse will stay away or come back to safety. When the person gives the horse a choice, the
horse is very willing to work. Another example is when a horse is standing next to the human, and the
horse starts to bump the person with his head; signs of trying to dominate the human, the person will
move the horse away. The first inclination of the animal is to come back where the person is

Dear White People Sparknotes
The Scientific Revolution made and advancement in what was called the empirical method. In the
Humanistic Tradition Gloria Fiero, the author states This method of inquiry depends on direct
observation and scientific experimentation as the bases from which one arrives at general conclusions
(Fiero pg.114) as she defines was the empirical method. Francis Bacon was an English scientist and
politician who advocated this method. Bacon was a believer in new ideas and he argued against
traditional and religious belief. Bacon published one of his work called Novum Organum which
according to Fiero it impassioned plea for objectivity and clear thinking and the strongest defense of
the empirical method ever written (Fiero pg.115). Bacon believed that the four false notions prevented
clear thinking. Dear White People directed by Justin Simien is a film that in comparison to Bacon s
Novum Organum tells a story about African American students attending a college in which they deal
with racial discrimination from a white college. In Bacon s Novum Organum he defines the four false
notions as idols of the Tribe, idols of the cave, idols if the marketplace, and idols of the theatre. He
first goes to define what he considers idols of the tribe to be, in which he explains are the human
mistakes one seems to make which are uncontrollable. He addresses For it is false assertion that the
sense of man is the measure of things (Fiero pg.115). It s the idea that humans don t process

Oedipus Rex and the Hero s Journey
Question:
Discuss whether or not a hero who is tragic by trait and definition can exist within the structure of the
monomyth.

Response
By definition, a tragic hero is a character who is unavoidably doomed. That hero s fate has already
been decided but the character usually spends the entire course of a story trying tirelessly and
unsuccessfully to change that. Oedipus easily falls into this definition. Oedipus is also a hero that ...

In the Heroic Journey, the hero is someone who is missing or lacking something. For Oedipus, this
would be the health in Thebes. Thebes can not lift her head from the death surge of the plague and it is
Oedipus ultimate goal, as king, to end the plague and keep his citizens safe. (Fitzgerald, 4) This would
be the grail in Oedipus story, as well as the truth about his past and the murder of king Laїos. The first
phase of the Hero s Journey is Separation from the Known and this begins with The Call . The call
invites the hero into the adventure, which in Oedipus case would be Creon bringing back the prophecy
from Delphi. Instantly, Oedipus questions what defilement? and how shall [they] rid [themselves] of
it? and that is the point where he willingly accepts his journey. (Fitzgerald, 7) Creon acts as the herald,
initiating the call when he brings the news from the gods. The second step in phase one is The
Threshold . The accusation of Oedipus as the murderer of king Laїos acts as the threshold because
Oedipus enters into his real quest to discover the truth about the murderer. Teirisias acts as the
threshold guardian because he knows that Oedipus killed Laїos but because there is no help in the
truth he refuses to give Oedipus this information. (Fitzgerald, 17) Phase two of the hero s journey is
Initiation and Transformation and this includes The Challenges , The

Synopsis Of Il N Existe Probablement
peuvent commencer à vieillir dès la naissance, voire in utero.

Forensic Evidence Admissibility For or Against in the...
In this position paper I have chosen Bloodsworth v. State ~ 76 Md.App. 23, 543 A.2d 382 case to
discuss on whether or not the forensic evidence that was submitted for this case should have been
admissible or not. To understand whether or not the evidence should be admissible or not we first have
to know what the case is about.
This case started on July 25, 1984, with the death of a nine year old girl by the name of Dawn
Hamilton. The story plays out as follows: Dawn approached two boys and an adult male that were
fishing at a pond in a wooded area near Golden Ring Mall in eastern Baltimore, Maryland. Dawn
asked the boys to help her find her cousin, they declined the adult male however agreed to help her
look. This was the last time anyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It seems that they got tunnel view when it came to Bloodsworth and were going to make the evidence
stick one way or another. This is made evident in the fact that Bloodsworth was the only suspect that
they looked at for the crime. They never investigated any other leads to the crime. They even did not
take into account that Bloodsworth in no way resembled the description that was given to police by
the witnesses at first. It is quite funny the sketch that was done by a police sketch artist resembles
Bloodsworth their prime suspect at this time. A sketch mind you that the witnesses said did not look
like the person they saw. I find it also odd that two of the witnesses did not pick put Bloodsworth at
first, it was not until later that they had time to think that Bloodsworth was the one that they saw.
While we are on the subject the police ruled out a potential suspect his demographical features did not
meet the description that was given by the witnesses. How odd one suspect is ruled out by
demographical features but one is not.
In March of 1985, Bloodsworth was sentenced to death. Through it all Bloodsworth maintained his
innocence and in 1993 with the help of a new technique used to test for DNA, Bloodsworth got his
chance to prove he was innocent. Bloodsworth became the first person ever to be exonerated from
death row by DNA evidence. (Jain, 2001) In one

Frivolous Lawsuits
Justice, Tranquility and The Greed for Money Lynn Hubbard is handicapped. She happens to also
have her own law firm. In the past year, she sued more than 600 nearly irreproachable institutions for
over two million dollars. Hubbard and her entourage of scheming lawyers have not done anything
illegal. Some may argue that she has simply exercised her right to the legal system. In any case,
Hubbard is part of the growing American society that has discovered large money in mass litigation.
This rise in greedy and manipulative lawyers has provided Americans with a skewed financial interest
in the American courtroom and has hindered the justice system as a whole. Congress must reexamine
tort reform to provide Americans with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While I applaud the Bush administration for taking viable steps towards stopping the practice of
frivolous lawsuits, I do not feel that it is in my position to place a price tag on a human life. While
tragic cases such as these place insurance companies, doctors, legislators and families in an ethical and
legal dilemma, it is the lawyers who pursue a common practice known as ambulance chasing, that
causes the root of all of these problems. Having originally acquired its name from personal injury
lawyers, this immoral method is applied when a law firm contacts a recent accident victim and pries
them into taking their cases to court. In many states, laws have been instilled that ban ambulance
chasing specifically accident victims however money hungry lawyers have found ways to outthink the
system. Hubbard is a perfect example of such a lawyer. Hubbard and her hired associates have visited
hundreds of businesses, which offer services to the public. Prying their way into restaurants, malls,
and medical offices, to name a few, they search for deficiencies that do not comply with the 1990
American Disability Act. By law in the state of California, one is able to prosecute for up to $250,000
for pain and suffering in addition to the $100,000 in penalty fees. In a sense, many of these cases end
up being more like insurance fraud. Since many of these large corporations have insurance that cover
potential cases like these, most of

Mayans, Aztecs And Mayan Civilizations
Did you know that the Mayans, Aztecs, and Incas had very advanced civilizations? They all built great
cities and developed extremely advanced civilizations. Each developed a mathematical system, built
intricate buildings, and had some form of religion. They all were very prosperous before they came to
their conclusions. These civilizations were very advanced for their times. The Mayan Society and
Their Decline The Mayans had a very intricate and prosperous civilization. Suzanne Hopkins writes
They studied the stars and developed sophisticated and accurate calendars; practiced elaborate...
religious rituals... developed complex hieroglyphic writing... [and had] a mathematical system based
on the unit 20 ( Mayan Civilization 56). The Mayan society was strictly hierarchical, divided up into
social classes. First there was the king, then the nobles. Below the nobles was the middle class made
up of priests and commoners; slaves made up the lowest level. The society was prosperous until
around AD 800. The Mayans decline is thought to have been caused be the large growth in population.
There was not enough farmers or land to provide enough food for the communities. In the reading
Mayan Civilization by Suzanne Hopkins it says, Food production plummeted, and famine forced
people to leave the urban centers (57). By AD 950, the cities were mostly abandoned, swallowed up
by the jungle. However, the Mayan people were still around, dispersed across Central America; they

  • 2. What Are The Three Paradoxes Faced By Gustavsson At... The importance of managing paradoxes increases with the complexity of organizational environments. To successfully manage paradoxes organizational leaders must learn to deal with contradictions and embrace incompatible forces, rather than choose between them (Belasen). Three management paradoxes that Bjorn Gustavsson faces as Engineered Woods are the paradox of change and stability, the paradox of individuals and teams, and the paradox of direction and empowerment. This essay will discuss these three paradoxes faced by Gustavsson at Engineered woods. Engineered Woods is seeking flexibility so they can adapt to a changing market and transition to a specialty commodity. Gustavsson has to manage his pursuit of change in how the organization is managed, how it is organized and whom is carrying it out. At the same time individuals are promoting resistance and the need for stability in the work environment. Individuals wish to reduce uncertainty, and maintain a stable self concept propelled by consistency in their actions (Leana Barry 2000). Individuals give their best when they work in teams yet teams succeed when each individual pulls their own weight. In order for Gustavsson to succeed in his change management strategy, he needs to shift the organization from a vertical structure to a horizontal structure. He can breed more success and production if he can create more self managed teams. The paradox of direction that Gustavsson faces is that he wants to empower his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Jesus Depicted throughout Time Many people have asked the question what did Jesus look like, was he tall, short, shaved or bearded. Did he look different from everyone else? No one truly knows what the savior looks like because there is nothing in the bible that gives a description of Jesus. But throughout the centuries people have created images of what the Son of God through the eyes of the people of their time in order to keep the faith and to educate and reflect how things were. The Roman Christian Art also known as byzantine Art marks the beginning of religious art and the image of Jesus. Which emerged after Christianity become the dominate religion in Rome around the 2nd century. One the oldest images of Christ comes from the mid 3rd century, it is young Jesus as the Good Shepherd from the Catacombs of San Callisto. In this fresco Jesus is portrayed as a young shepherd holding a sheep on his shoulders. A shepherd guides and direct his sheep. This has a symbolic meaning, in the bible (John 10:1 21; Luke 15:1 7 and 11 32). Jesus represented as the good Shepard and we are his sheep. It also states that as the shepherd he will look for the lost sheep (sinners) and rejoice when it is found. The painting explains how Jesus will help protect and guide you in the right direction. This was a way of telling passages of the bible to the people who were illiterate. Later on as we enter the early Middle Ages (5th 10th century) the image of Jesus begins to be depicted in portrait. • 7. The Ironic Heira Hierarchy In Measure For Measure There is a certain structure of control between the characters in Shakespeare s Measure for Measure that continually shifts, and never is this more pronounced than in the relationship/dialogues between Angelo and Isabella. This structure creates a back and forth balance of power and not only affects the dynamics between both characters, but more important, influences the development of the story. Control is also, at least attempted, to be manifested externally by Angelo in his desires to control with an iron fist unlike his predecessor, and Isabella in choosing to join a nunnery and lead a chaste life away from the hedonism exhibited by the characters we meet in Vienna. Control is also questionable when it seems internally lost by these characters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She tells Angelo a truth about his position of power, which runs parallel to his own aforementioned realization of it after having met Isabella, and how he immediately thinks to manipulate and abuse it to his advantage. According to David K. Weiser s article, The Ironic Heirarchy in Measure for Measure: Angelo is concerned only with the abstract crime committed and the need for absolute decorum: There shall be order for t (II.ii.24). Self righteousness and irony are very different things, of course. But as ironic as his actions may initially seem, he does however exhibit truth when confronted by the power of the Duke when sentenced at the end of the play. Isabella would rather let her brother die than give up her virginity, Before his sister should her body stoop To such abhorred pollution. Then, Isabel live chaste, and brother die: More than our brother is our chastity. (II, iv, 184 86) But surprises us all at the end by giving up her chaste lifestyle and marries the ... Most of them came for a better life but many of them ended up in poverty. The first gangs were formed among poor adolescents who grouped together for the sake of socialisation and protection. They were of the same race or the same ethnic background. The first known gang specialized in crimes was called The Five Points . They consisted of Irish immigrants and was established in New York City. They dressed in a specific way and used monikers or nicknames. Another early gang were the Forty Thieves . In the current study, tattoos signify a number of different and personal matters, only one of which gang membership and a warning to others. At any rate, it is very clear that some youths engage in more gang activity than others; some might be called the wannabes who move out of the influence of the gang on the basis of whether or not a program of interest intercepts drawing them completely away from the gang. Within the wannabes there are many little brothers and sisters, sometimes referred to as pee wees. • 11. Descriptive Essay About Soccer City Hidden deep in the streets of Sunny Ridge, a neighborhood, lies a whole new soccer world open to everyone. Soccer City brings an exhalating sports atmosphere that anyone that is willing to learn to play soccer can excel. As guests walk in through the doors of the entrance at soccer city all they hear are the thunderous roars of a soccer ball being kicked against the walls. The trainlike whistles of the referees stopping the ball for a foul, all while trying to calm the opposing teams from getting into an argument. The smell of hard work, but mostly sweat of the players trying to score for their teams. These are just a few of the components that makes soccer city such a wonderful place unlike any other. Soccer City, with all of its components, really outlines the true identity of soccer and how everyone of all ages can come together to play a game and work towards a common goal; to score goals. When walking through the entrance at soccer city the complete floorplan of the whole indoor complex can be seen below. In the center of the complex, there are benches to rest on, and a concession stand facing right in that direction. This encourages players to sit down and take a bite as they anxiously wait for their game or just for visitors grab a snack and watch soccer. Since the benches and the concession area is centered in the middle of the complex on both sides there is a soccer field that allows for the accommodation of eating while watching these warlike games going on as players seem to fight each other vigorously chasing down a ball that keeps on rolling. This effect of having the concession stand allows the aroma of food to be around in the air and it makes the customers that come to ply soccer also eat at soccer city and not elsewhere which further increases sales at soccer city by people buying food there between games and not eating at any other restaurants Upon walking through the doors, the loud chatter of people urgently calling for teammates to get the ball, or the thunderous sounds the ball makes when it hits against the field walls soon fills ears and connects people instantly with the live atmosphere. This noisy atmosphere isn t for everyone but for those rowdy soccer players this is paradise. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Identity Reflection Paper Identity is a complex aspect of someone s life. It is a combination of how people view others, how someone views himself, and how their community is seen by others. These still can be split even more into infinite dimensions which are combined to create a unique identity. Identity is also an inconstant part of life as it is manipulated by the people, environment, and activities at the moment. My identity started when I was born as I was given a race based on my ancestry and genetics and a gender based on my anatomy. These parts have remained constant throughout my life, unlike most of the many dimensions that my identity is composed of. Although I don t always think about these dimensions as the primary source of my identity, I believe that people who have just met me for the first time consider this to be one of the biggest aspects of the identity they have given me. As people learn more about me, their vision of my identity changes as the internal central aspects begin to be noticed. I consider the key components of my identity to be my education, region, religion, and gender. These four dimensions have been central to the vision I have of myself as well as the vision others hopefully have of me once they know me well. I believe that these four dimensions represent my identity, because based on my normal context these are the aspects that I introduce myself with. • 13. Antidepressants Should Be Treated Using Talk Therapy I feel trapped , I feel empty , I feel hopeless and numb , are all ways that people have described their depression. Usually this would be followed with going to the doctor and expressing how the person feels and then the doctor prescribing an antidepressant. The question that stands is does everyone on antidepressants actually need to be on antidepressants? Antidepressants should be reserved for the cases and people who really need them rather than someone who has situational depression, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, or even seasonal affective disorder, all types of depression that can be treated using talk therapy rather than medication (Illiades, 7 Side Effects of Antidepressants). Depression is a chemical imbalance of the brain, usually when the part of the brain that produces serotonin produces the chemical in lower quantities (Rivas). Every year Americans consume more anti depressants than any other nation in the world and from the years 1988 1994, the use of anti depressants increased by 400% (Ross). Statistically speaking, women have a 70% chance of developing depression over men and about 13% of the women who have children would develop postpartum depression (Holms). Samuel Morse ran into problems during the development of the telegraph machine, the telegraph machine could only transmit information for a little bit more than a few hundred yards due to the loss of current over long distances. Not until Professor Leonard Gale, of New York University, that helped improved Morse s design that used superior batteries and electromagnets that enabled it to transfer currents over great distances. After the help of Gale, Samuel Morse had perfected his telegraph; it was able to send signals over great distances. Although his Journey wasn t over, he now had to send his work to Washington where he awaited to be approved by Congress. He attended both sessions of Congress, from 1837 to 1838 and another one in 1842 to 1843. During the last day of the session, which was March 3, 1843, he spent the whole day and part of the evening in the Senate chamber, anxiously watching the progress of the passing of the various bills (Morse) to watch the bill get passed, he was awarded $30,000 to set up the very first telegraph machine from Washington to Baltimore. His first telegraph machine was made from household instruments that consisted of an old picture or canvas frame fastened to a table; the wheels of an old wooden clock [...] and a short circuit of a wire, embracing the helices of the electro magnet connected with the positive and negative poles of the battery and terminating the mercury cups (Morse). • 16. Reflection On Entrepreneurship In the world of tutoring, there are an abundant amount of ways that one can go about teaching a student. Although this is true, there are some ways that tend to work better than others. Tutoring has a large amount of do s and don ts that we as tutors should make sure we take into account before we begin our interaction with the students to which we are tutoring. Before coming into this internship, I had a very general knowledge of tutoring, as I have been a tutor in previous years. After this week s reading and videos that were assigned, I have gained a deeper knowledge of what exactly is expected out of a tutor in and out of every session. Before diving into this week s reading and videos, there were already aspects of being a tutor that I knew were required. This would include: having a plan before every tutoring session and being patient with every student that you tutor. When it comes to having a plan before every tutoring session, I feel like that is something that is one of the most important aspects of being a successful tutor. When, as a tutor, you know the student you are working with, it is beneficial to make sure that you prepare ahead of time for the session with that student. If the student has provided you beforehand with the topics and papers that they are wanting to work, it is imperative to look into them and start working on revising them before you meet with the student. If you do this, and you know ahead of time what exactly you are needing to speak with the student about, you will be able to use your allotted time efficiently. As a tutor, if you go about this approach with any and every session that you can, you will be able to provide each student that you are able to tutor. Patience is also something that is extremely useful and needed in tutoring. Often times, a student will not understand what you are trying to teach them the first time. If you go about this in a negative way, no learning from the student will be able to be had. Although that is true, if you approach each session with an ample amount of patience, you will be able to teach the student the different subjects that you are intending on teaching them. Without patience, trying to be a tutor is virtually impossible. Even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In doing so I discovered we shared many cultural norms and tradition although there was some noticeable difference in terms of how our communities are run within our defined societies. My husband hails from a small country on the coast of West Africa named Sierra Leone. That s a huge contrast from the Hmong people who don t have a land to call home. Our people through centuries of prosecution have scatted throughout Asia and America with the vast majority still residing in our ancestral land of China. Despite this, however, Hmong people like the people of Sierra Leone continue to possess a strong sense of identity and culture. Often Hmong communities in the United State take on a specific identity, not unlike American Indians reservation or other sub cultural community in The United State. Conversely, although the people of Sierra Leone have a nation filled with rich tradition and culture but continue to be inundated by a western culture which could be having an adverse effect. Ultimately our discussion highlights that both of our people ultimately want to move forward as one to a better and prosper future. My husband and I discussed the structure of family in our culture. The International Personality Item Pool (IPIP) measure scale was used and the five item measure scales selected were: (Extraversion, Neuroticism, Openness, Agreeableness Conscientiousness) , (Goldberg, 1999). The study produced results that Conscientiousness scored the highest amongst the Inuit children more than expected. This could have been due to the nurturing and parenting styles of the Inuit community. There is a need for further studies to be conducted with the parents, caregivers, and educators of the Inuit children to confirm whether their personality findings was correct. The author refers to several advocates of religious reconciliation, including the Dalai Lama, Martin Buber, Abraham Heschel, Thomas Merton, and Pope John Paul II. Interestingly, Professor Niebuhr seems to lack a basic understanding of the religions to which he refers. For example, he at times misunderstands the scriptures he cites. The fundamental teaching of the Bhagavad Gita, for example, is not selfless.... duty, which he is seemingly paralleling to the Protestant concept of noblesse oblige. But it is indeed the more demanding Hindu practice (yoga) of disinterested action, which demands renunciation of the fruits of any deed. Professor Niebuhr views interfaith dialogue as a means to overpower the absolutism of fundamentalism in all faith traditions. And yet, these are exactly the people who are the most reluctant to participate in discussion with those of other faiths or even other Christian denominations. Professor Niebuhr sees interfaith understanding as a civic discipline, akin to honesty in paying taxes. Bennett carefully explains these factors: The nature of the product should be important when it comes to setting up a promotion strategy. Bennett says that the general rule is while promoting consumer goods and services one should heavily rely on advertising and sales promotion; while industrial products depend on personal selling, or use of brochures or catalogs (1988, p.520). The product life cycle should also be considered. The life cycle of a product includes its introduction to the market, growth, maturity and final decline. An Investigation into Response to Disaster Using Qualitative Methods Abstract This study investigated the accounts of individuals involved in the London underground bombings in 2005. Throughout this investigation, thematic analysis was conducted on six eyewitness accounts, highlighting their feelings and actions, which came about as a result of the incident. From these accounts I obtained 4 key themes, which were consistent components of the six accounts. Evidently, I found that the two most common themes were helping behaviour and the panic myth. This was rather unexpected, as initially, I expected to find irrational and helpless behaviour, due to the panic and stress of being trapped in a bombed underground. To conclude, the investigation illuminated the concept of helping others before helping ones self. Thus, contradicting the concept of survival of the fittest, as in this case the fittest were those who took it upon themselves to assist other passengers in need. Therefore, highlighting the power of empathy which was risen with experiencing the disaster. Although his position was based on the maximization of happiness, he distinguished between pleasures that are higher and lower in quality. Mill s principle of utility or the greatest happiness principle seeks for the logical rationality of ethics through the consequences of actions as the consideration determining their morality, thus the acquisition of happiness as opposed to the avoidance of pain. Utilitarianism may be viewed as an instance of a more general theory of right consequentialism, which holds that right and wrong can only be assessed by the goodness of consequences. This general kind of theory can perhaps be most easily understood by considering the form of consequentialism. The commercial begins with showing pictures and videos of suffering animals with the song Angel playing in the background. While those clips are being shown, the song In the Arms of an Angel by Sarah McLachlan is being played in the background. Slides with different statistics are being shown as well. The song In the Arms of an Angel is the major aspect of the commercial that really sets the tone. The tone of the song is depressing and gloomy but grabs the attention of the audience at the same time. The main point of the commercial is to convince the audience to be an angel , by saving the abused animals dying in the shelters. The song used is a perfect tool to convince the audience to be an angel and help the animals. Even though the music is a large part of setting the tone, the clips and pictures are equally as moving. Showing pictures of abused and suffering animals is a great way to get the audience s attention and cause them to become sympathetic to the animals. Very few people in the world are unfazed when they see a video or picture of a helpless and suffering dog or cat. I looked at a lot of the related videos on YouTube and many of them are reaction videos. The videos show the audience s reaction to the commercial. When it comes to selecting an employee for a job position, personality comes into play on account of the fact that it can affect behavior in the workplace. Whether positive or negative effects, it is important for the possibility of aggressive behavior to be considered as to avoid hiring persons who prove to be dishonorable toward the business through their negative actions. After reading An Integrative Typology of Personality Assessment for Aggression: Implications for Predicting Counterproductive Workplace Behavior, the authors heavily emphasize two cognitions: explicit and implicit. However, Catcher should be taught in American high schools because the book includes many controversial subjects surrounding teenagers, including depression, suicide, social isolation, and teenage angst, all of which many students can relate to and identify with. Readers of the book can learn important lessons about life, perception, and dealing with our emotions. This argument from Mr. Skilling failed because the record from the court showed that voir dire was completed properly. Mr. Skilling also argued that the court should have never tried him in Houston. Mr. Skilling pointed out prior cases where the Court decided that due to extreme media coverage there was a possibility of juror prejudice that required the courts to change the venue. The first person ahead constantly looks back at the second person. What is bound to go through the second person s mind? Is it unsafe ahead? Is something wrong? What is the person ahead trying to communicate? That is an example of how a horse would feel when led by a human who looks back at him. Remember, horses rely on good leadership for survival. Firstly, horses are intelligent creatures with different personalities, abilities, and sensitivities. Humans should realize that each horse has a different need and that each training requirement is different. In the second place, people often comment that their horses are too senseless to need a choice. A while back, I read a story about a mare who was dying from fighting an illness and exhaustion. Before she died, she walked for days across exposed moors leading her foal to the safety of a farm where she died less than twenty four hours later. She died after knowing her foal was safe. Does that sound like a senseless horse? A horse with that much intelligence, to have no choice during training? It is inconceivable. Horses are not incapable of understanding communication; it is up to the human not to send out mixed signals. In the third place, when the human sends the horse away during equine training, the person is giving the horse a choice. Either the horse will stay away or come back to safety. When the person gives the horse a choice, the horse is very willing to work. Another example is when a horse is standing next to the human, and the horse starts to bump the person with his head; signs of trying to dominate the human, the person will move the horse away.
