John Alvin was an American artist known for his iconic movie posters. He designed over 260 movie campaigns and completed 140 posters in his career. Considered an innovator in the genre, some of his most famous works included posters for Young Frankenstein, Blade Runner, and E.T. Alvin drew inspiration from works like Michelangelo's Creation of Adam and preferred working in mixed media to develop concepts. He found particular success designing posters for Disney films. Later in his career, Alvin transitioned toward fine art focused on movies when new advertising forms like the internet emerged.
