The Catholic Church Located Near
There are five Catholic churches located near me according to the Catholic directory. The decision
was made to attend a service at Our Lady of Grace Church which is located on South Chapman Street
and off of West Market Street in Greensboro that was built in 1952. As you enter the church, the first
thing noticed is how large the church is on the inside as well as the outside. Beautiful tall cathedral
ceilings with archways, after archways, after archways, and a beautiful altar. The first thing you do is
dip your fingers in the bowl containing holy water and cross yourself. According to websites, this is to
remember your baptism. If you have not been baptized you do not dip your fingers in the water. After
dipping into the holy water, you bless yourself by saying In the name of the Father, the Son, and the
Holy Spirit while doing the motion of a cross on the forehead, lower chest, left shoulder, then right
shoulder. Walking to the pew, there are some people who bow, there are some people, who bend their
knees, and there are some people who actually go all the way down to the ground. The reason for the
bow is to bow to the altar, genuflect to the tabernacle. Genuflecting is when the right knee touches the
floor and the tabernacle is where the Body of Christ is kept. Once at the seats, the entrance song
begins. This signals the start of Mass. This Sunday it was Praise My Soul, The King of Heaven, and
Hymn. As this song is being sung, the priest and servers walk slowly to

Colonisation In Australia
Colonisation in Australia is followed by 5 steps, according to Professor Virgillio Enriquez. Step 1,
includes the denial of culture within the indigenous society. This first step to this process of
colonisation, also gives perspectives on the way colonisers display ignorance upon different cultures.
This initial step also includes the gradual withdrawal of cultural practices, as indigenous people may
develop close relationships with the colonised strangers and eventually adapt to their culture. Due to
the advanced culture of the colonisers, some may become converted and eventually turn against their
original culture. With the denial of indigenous culture, step 2 of colonisation was invoked, with the
destruction of anything representing their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This phase can become dangerous as it further invokes a division between the indigenous society and
the non indigenous society. The lasting of the mourning phase cannot be generalised as it is different
for every individual, as the effect of the tragedy can effect individuals differently, as there was a great
deal of inhumane suffering on the indigenous society. Furthermore the phase that is considered the
most crucial is the dreaming phase. The dreaming phase includes the imagining of a decolonised
future, these can be expressed through debate or consultation. Within this phase the colonisers are able
to explore their own culture, considering the new social structure. However in order for the
development of a new social structure, time is needed or the full potential of the dream may not be
succeeded. If planning is discontinued, many problems can arise for the new

We Have Too Much Power In A Communist Society
Merriam Webster dictionary defines the word own as, to have power or mastery over, this mean
anyone who owns something, has the power to do what they want with it. We must first ask, who
gives us the power to own something? Is it the government? Is it our peers? Is it ourselves? These are
the questions that must be answered to say who owns anything at all. The correct answer would be
that it is a combination between the three, that we as a society are the ones to say who owns
something.
First and foremost, the type of government plays a major role in deciding how much power an
individual has in owning something. In a capitalist society, anyone can own anything, because it is a
free market. The individuals of this society have all agreed, that paper money has value, and can be
exchanged for goods, property, or anything for that matter. Since this currency is in play, the people
can purchase what they want. The government then keeps track of most expensive items such as car,
land, and buildings. If there is a dispute over ownership, then the government can enforce the law,
allowing the rightful owner to own their property. In a Communist society however, the government is
ruled under a dictatorship. The ideal communist society would be that everyone gets an equal share.
This means that an individual cannot own more than their peer, and nobody gets ... Show more content

In a democratic society, the people get to vote on the laws of the country, saying who can own what
and how much they can own of it. The government would then take the laws that the people voted for,
and enforce them, so everyone can own what is theirs. Without the government enforcing these laws,
then anarchy would ensue, allowing only the strongest to own items, because they can fight for their
property. If the society is not democratic, then the peers have no say into what everyone can own. It is
up to the leaders of the country to say who can own

Essay on The Importance of Identity in Homer s Odyssey
The Importance of Identity in Homer s Odyssey
Within the epic poem The Odyssey , Homer presents the story of Odysseus s quest to find his home
and his identity. According to Homer s account, with its origin in oral tradition, the two quests are
interchangeable, as a mortal defines himself with his home, his geographic origin, his ancestors, his
offspring, etc. But in addition to this Homer illustrates the other aspect of human identity, shaped by
the individual and his actions so that he may be recognized in the outside world. Through this Homer
presents Odysseus in two ways: the first his internally given identity as ruler and native of Ithaca, son
of Laertes, father of Telemachos; the second the definition of the external world ... Show more content

Homer presents this clearly in the following instances: Helen s description of Odysseus disguising
himself to enter into the city of Troy and in doing so gaining information that would allow him to
destroy his mortal enemies, a trademark ploy that he also uses when returning to his homeland of
Ithaca to infiltrate the rank of suitors; additionally in the sequence with the Cyclops in which
Odysseus eludes danger by taking on the guise of Noman or one without a name .
For Odysseus, the ability to disguise his identity presents an opportunity through which he can
conquer his enemies at Troy and thereby establish great fame and external identity through public
recognition. Through the voice of Helen, Homer demonstrates how Odysseus became so
unrecognizable that he was able to enter into Troy, defying both his mortal enemies and the immortal
Poseidon who built Troy s walls to be impenetrable:
But what a deed this one mighty man did and dared...
When he had submitted himself to disfiguring blows,
He threw a poor covering over his shoulders and in the likeness
Of a servant he entered the enemy s broad streeted city...
In that guise he entered the city of the Trojans. They all
Overlooked him. I alone recognized him as he was.
And I questioned him. He eluded me cunningly,
But when I was

childhood and adolescence years, his scholastic performance stood out. He graduated high school with
honors, and set out to study medicine at Vienna University. While studying medicine, he was
introduced to Ernest Von Bruke, who worked at the university as a physiology professor . Bruke
assisted Freud in obtaining a grant to study with a psychiatrist, by the name of Jean Martin Charcot. In
1881 Sigmund Freud finally earned his doctoral degree in medicine. In 1902, Freud began working as

His development of the General Systems Theory was due to him believing human experiences, along
with social and scientific problems could be thought of, in terms of systems. According to Francis
Turner in the 4th edition of Social Work Treatment, Bertalanffy s goal was to achieve a common
perspective and clear view of the world as a great organization , where all disciplines could be
understood in their place (Turner, 1996, p.604). During his professional career Von Bertalanffy
worked in Vienna, London, Canada and the USA, as a professor at local universities (Ludwig Von
Bertalantffy, n.d.). His life came to an end at the age of 70, in June 1972 in New York (Turner, 1996,
p.604).
Tenants of Psychodynamic and Systems Theory
Systems theory was proposed in the 1940s by the biologist Ludwig von Bertalanffy (General Systems
Theory, 1968). Systems theory describes human behavior in terms of complex systems. It is premised
on the idea that an effective system is based on individual needs, rewards, expectations, and attributes
of the people living in the system. According to this theory, families, couples, and organizations
members are directly involved in resolving a problem even if it is an individual issue. System theories
emphasizes reciprocal relationships between the elements that constitute a whole. These concepts also
emphasize the relationships among individuals, groups, organizations, or communities and mutually

Explore the different types of leadership Golding and Garland present in Lord of the Flies and The
Beach.
In Lord of the Flies and The Beach many leadership qualities are shown. These qualities are shown in
different ways for example one leader is elected by democracy, another is self appointed and lastly
there is the destructive leader. Lord of the Flies was written in
1954. A time when commercialisation was not an issue and media hype only had subtle effects of
society. The Beach was written in 1996,
American globalisation has begun and the media played a massive part in society. I will look at how
the different time may affect the way in which a leader reacts.

The first character the reader meets is Ralph, who Golding describes as the tall boy with fair hair, and
then Piggy, said by Golding to be a short and very fat child, hence the name. Ralph s leadership
qualities are shown straight away as he manages to stay perfectly calm but almost excited with the
prospect of being free of adults and on his own in this strange island. As Piggy is franticly trying to
reassure himself that not everyone died in the crash, Ralph tried to be not too obviously uninterested
as Golding describes it. Staying calm in tough situations is a good skill as it means bad ideas wont be
made in panic. Ralph unlike Sal was elected leader through a vote. Sal being the founder of the beach
along with Bugs meant that they appointed themselves as leaders. Even though the entire choir voted
for Jack,
Ralph is the most popular. Being liked is an advantageous attribute to have as a leader. It means Ralph
can give constructive feedback and reward and recognise others easier than if he wasn t liked and
these are important factors in being a good leader.
Golding gives the character of Ralph the most positive attitude. He has the ability to lift spirits even in
the tough situations. This is our island. It s a good island. Until the grown ups come to fetch us we ll
have fun. This is a very good skill to have as

High Rates Of Employee Turnover Essay
High rates of employee turnover can have a negative effect on an organization. This subject has
received attention from human resource professionals, senior management and other industrial
psychologists. Employee attrition is sometimes intractable and one of the most expensive human
resource challenge which most companies face. An organization makes a lot of investments in their
employees in terms of induction, recruitment, their development and training, retaining and
maintaining them within the organization. Manpower is instrumental for the technology industry and
employee turnover is a challenge in Amazon. In an increasing competitive technology landscape, the
technology industry should come into terms the need for restructuring in aspects matching industry
growth and career progression opportunities. There is a necessity to give the high labor turnover
Amazon experiences attention and arrive at benchmark practices that will solve the administrative and
operational challenge the high levels of employee turnover pose. This paper will evaluate and analyze
the impact of employee turnover using the analytical and creative problem solving in Amazon Virtual
Contact Center. The information that this report will provide will enable Amazon to promote strategies
that will reduce the high rates of employee turnover while at the same time optimize staff retention by
enhancing job satisfaction, organizational commitment, quality service, recruitment, productivity and
excellence.

My Reading And Writing Recovery Program
When I was in the first grade there was a state mandated test that all first graders took to determine
what skill level we were at with our reading and writing. I was really excited about this test because, I
loved reading and writing so I felt I was good at it. However after the test results came back I was put
in a reading and writing recovery program. For obvious reasons I was extremely disappointed, and
determined to get back into my regular class. As the year progressed I became increasingly better with
reading and writing, by the end of that year I was 2 grade levels above what I was supposed to be at. I
even had my Young Authors book put into to finals, I got to go to a seminar at MSSU about writing. I
like to look back on that memory because it reminds me that I can do anything I put my mind to no
matter where I start. As years go by my passion for reading and writing keeps growing. My 8th grade
year, however, was probably my worst year yet. I really struggled with motivation to do my work, to
go anywhere, to see anyone, I really just wanted to stay in my room by myself all the time. Then I
kind of rediscovered my love for reading and, would read all the time, it even got to the point where I
would read multiple books a week. In reading I was able to find a whole new life, I was able to
become the character and put myself in the story, I had their feelings, I experienced the things they
experienced, I had their personalities, I was the story. Being able to read, I

Failure Doesn T Come From Falling Down By Francisca Cardenas
Francisca Cardenas November 20, 2015 It s really difficult to find success there s many obstacles that
cross our paths and most end up defeating us. Some people decide to give up or for others graduating
high school is their own success. Everyone has different perspectives of what success is or means to
them. In my opinion success is when you re content with the goals you ve accomplish or have yet to
achieve. If you ve achieved your goals then you have succeeded. Even if it s the simplest thing, to
another person that shouldn t matter because your success will please you and not others. While
preceding your goal in life, there will be a lot of people who will try to belittle you in every way they
can but like its once was said, Some people don t like you because your strength reminds them of their

The Effects Of Child Poverty
There is no trust more sacred than the one the world holds with children. There is no duty more
important than ensuring that their rights are respected, that their welfare is protected, that their lives
are free from fear and want and that they can grow up in peace (Kofi Annan). Children are like
flowers. They must be loved, protected, and nourished in order to bloom. If they lack any of these
essentials, they are most likely going to suffer and die without being able to serve their purpose. There
is this universal hope that all children will flourish in life; however, there are certain circumstances
that draw a line between the fortunate and unfortunate. In this case, the factor that dictates their future
is their status in society, such as having the leisure of being able to attend facilities that aren t available
to others. Poverty in children has numerous psychological, physical and mental effects and well being.
Based on the context that the children operate within their social and academic forte, poverty affects
the children unfavorably in numerous distinct ways. Children living in poverty are often denied access
to basic needs and proper living conditions for healthy growth and development. As such, the
insufficiency or dearth of the needs affect their lives in a great way that constrain their normal growth
to become productive people in the world.
In the United States, child poverty has been a severe issue even when the country was established.

Reliability And Validity Of Interviews Essay
Then turn to interviews. Interviews are classed as a qualitative research method and remain one of the
most utilised research methods in industrial and HRM research. Whipp (1998, p.55) notes that The
interview is the primary means of accessing the experiences and subjective views of actors . The main
advantage of the interviews is that the rich data can be obtained from an interview. According to White
(1989) the research into solicitor s perceptions of ACAS was relatively easy to set up and forty
interviews are completed for five months. It is necessary to use interviews to gain more detailed, in
depth explanations from participants, which may provide a much better understanding of their
perceptions and actions. On the other hand, The time consuming nature of preparing, arranging,
conducting and writing up interview, which refers to that it is probable only a limited number of
research participants can be interviewed within a short time period may be the biggest disadvantage of
the interviews.

Moreover, the information will be provided about use of data, and the information will be kept safely

The reliability and validity of any research conducted are clearly of importance. Reliability is a less
problematic concept, which for the purposes of small scale research projects, can be addressed
through careful design of interview or survey questions to reduce ambiguities. Bell (2010, p.119)
states that validity is an altogether more complex concept . Validity is more complicated since it is
harder to establish whether fieldwork research can paint a true picture of what is being

Prepared Infant Formulas
The Infant
Breast feeding is the most favorable food an infant receives. A woman starts to lactate after birth and
the newborn yearns for their mother s milk. The child and mother bond creating a comfort
environment. The breast milk comprises of balanced nutrients that carry immunological traits.
However, if the mother didn t have a healthy pregnancy or has a sexual transmitted infection the milk
may do more harm than good. (Leifer 397 398) Supplemental nutrition is readily available if breast
feeding was not ideal. Synthetic nutrition is different than human milk. Allergies could possibly
develop and it could disrupt their digestion. Pediatricians speak favorably of iron fortified formulas
due to low maternal iron it decreases after 6 months of age. Cow s milk is not good for infants until
they are one. There are many companies that create prepared infant formulas. Many well known

Pediatricians speak well of rice cereal. It should be the first food to be introduced since it barely

Once an invasive species arrives, it s just about impossible to get rid of it Sean Hanna. In America,

there are possibilities to eliminate their population.
Invasive species are annihilating the population of native species. One example of an invasive species
is the python. These creatures are invading Florida and decreasing the population of other species;
they may reach New York in 2100. Pythons are extremely elusive, so it s hard to catch them. Another

Response To Text The Turning By Tim Winton
Response to text: The turning The Turning by Australian author Tim Winton is a collection of
seventeen short stories. All stories are connected and he does this in a way so that no matter what
order you read the stories in they will all make sense in the end. The way Winton has linked the stories
together is he has included a character that the audience all ready knows in more than one story, to
widen the range of characters e.g. the first story Big World mentions a character, Vic Lang, the
coppers kid that will later show up in numerus other stories. He also connects the book by having the
main setting as the town a majority of characters live in, Angelus, which then brings a familiar
location to the reader. Winton s stories share the theme or morale s which group together and make
sense when the audience reads the whole book. Three stories that have a strong theme are Big world,
Abbreviation, and On her knees. The themes represented in the book are self discovery, coming of
age, overcoming the odds, and the theme of sticking with Family manages to squeeze in as well. ...

and think why they are still there when they hate the job. This story is probably one of the more

Analyzing Michelangelo Antonioni s Blow Up Essay
Film 1B03 T08
Michelangelo Antonioni was an acclaimed Italian film director, revered for his contributions to the
discipline of cinema. In many ways, Michelangelo Antonioni has revolutionized the realm of art
cinema and is responsible for the foundations that the style now rests upon. One of his most influential
films was titled Blow Up. In his first English language film, Antonioni examines themes of perception
and reality, especially in regard to society and the individual. This film has continuous markings of an
art film from the opening sequence to the final credits. In order to analyze the film s style we must be

reappearance of Hemmings wife and her claim that she is in Paris is surprising and confusing. This
interaction adds a sense of confusion and detracts from and already limited amount of information and
understanding available to the viewer. The plot line between Hemmings and his model wife is made
clear to be of no use to function of the film, only as an event leading to nothing. It is also in this party
that the protagonist confronts his publisher about his discovery. His disregard for the subject matter
can be interpreted as society s care free ideology and false reality. This is made explicitly evident
when Ron tells Thomas that he is not a photographer, implying he does not care about his quest. Ron,
by choosing to ignore the facts presented before him, is making himself ignorant in an attempt to carry
on a life of uninterrupted pleasure. This removal from reality is one of the fundamental issues
recurrent in this film. Hemmings is faced with a choice between what is moral and what is
comfortable. The moral choice is more difficult and requires him to sacrifice precious time and effort
in order to do what is right. The

Many public agencies in recent years have followed the trend of privatization, or contracting out.
Activities and functions that were once performed, or services that were once provided, by public
employees are now being performed by private sector employees (Lyons). Vehicle towing, health
services, police protection, and solid waste collection are among the many services and functions that

Advantages Of Hiring Contract Employees.
Why is contracting out so attractive to a public agency? Privatizing has its advantages that represent
benefits to the agency.
Although reducing costs and improving services have been cited as the most important reasons
services are privatized by agencies, contracting out offers the attractiveness of hiring a contract
employee over a public employee. This occurs because of the apparent advantages offered by such
options (Dilger et al. 23). Some advantages of hiring a contract employee over a civil servant are as
follows:
Hiring And Training Costs Are Reduced
Reduction Of Hiring Costs Hiring a civil service employee involves recruiting, testing, interviewing,
and selecting a candidate or candidates for given positions. This process is an exhaustive one, which
can last for weeks and months, from the initial recruitment to the final selection of a candidate to the
position. This long process can amount to thousands of dollars in expenditures. The costs incurred by
these steps in the hiring process result from compensation of staff for thousands of additional hours

Camouflage In Bryce Courtenay s novel, The Power of One, Peekay states, I had become an expert in
camouflage. My precocity allowed me, chameleonlike, to be to each what they required me to be

State of Florida vs David Ralph Orcutt Ethics, or also referred to as moral philosophy, helps determine
when things are right and when things are wrong. To kill or not to kill? To abuse or not to abuse? To
hurt or not to hurt? In the nursing profession, as in all major health professional fields, nurses are
bound to a certain Nurse s Code of Ethics (Kelly, 2010). Obey the code, and a registered nurse can
potentially live a long healthy career in the nursing field. Violate the nurse s code of ethics, and one
can seek penalties including but not limited to fines, fees, revocation, license suspension, probation,
and even imprisonment. So what exactly happens to a Nurse who disobeys the code of ethics? The
case between the State of Florida vs Mr. D.R.O. helps in getting a better understanding of what
happens when a registered healthcare professional, in this case a Nurse, challenges the nursing code of
ethics. Is the verdict appropriate in the defendant s case? Were the consequences adequately applicable
to the damages the defendant imposed? How can future and active registered nurses avoid situations
like this in their career? Although the concept of ethics and the answers to some of these questions can
seem common sense to most of us, in some cases, our minds can be clouded or disturbed

Native Americans In New France
During the beginning of the colonization period within America, many Europeans were escaping their
lives in Europe. America delivered Europeans from the social, political, and economic inequality.
They no longer had to feel apprehension from the crop famines. They finally had a chance of freedom.
When Europeans first encountered Native Americans, they saw them as the exemplification of
freedom. Even though colonists desired freedom, they felt that Native Americans had the wrong type
of freedom. They thought they were too free and lacked the structure that civilization provided.

Considering the small white population compared to the mass amount of Natives in North America,
the French depended on good relations with Native Americans. The main person to blame the good

The techniques that are used by all fraternities and sororities are called rushing and hazing. Rushing is
the act of popularizing a given fraternity or sorority to attract new members. As mentioned in the
introduction, the alternate forms of rushing cover a large spectrum, but they all have the same goal: be
the best to attract the best. Hazing is another variable method closely aligned with fraternities and
sororities, but hazing for different fraternities and sororities can have vastly different outcomes.
Hazing, in its most simple and basic form, is the imposition of strenuous or complicated tasks as a
form of initiation. In contrast to popular belief, a lot of normal activity is considered hazing. For
example, a college football team might tell the freshman that they are responsible for cleaning up
loose garbage on the field after a practice. As mild as this example might be, hazing can be taken to an
extreme and often has poor outcomes that can severely damage the psyche of an individual. However,
a sense of tradition and continuation continually inspires hazing among social groups, but fraternities

All through books, plays, and all literature foil characters endure in writing. In the article by Suzanne
Penuel, Missing Fathers: Twelfth Night And The Reformation Of Mourning she says many things
about Twelfth Night, but a solid part of her article is about foil characters and how Viola and Olivia
foil with each other. She states foil of, Such a Sebastian (my emphasis) implies that father and son
were alike in more than name, and Viola s likeness to her brother is therefore likeness to her father.
This twinning, then, is a reminder of the paternal, as is even her evasively self duplicating confession
of love to Orsino (Penuel 6). This quote describes Viola and her foil with Olivia and how her father
died, and the resemblance to each other. This article remains full of proof of foil characters. More data
of foil characters are here, Olivia s dead brother is hard to distinguish from her father... More
important, the brother has duplicated the father, first as protector and then as decedent. Likewise,
although Viola s disguise makes her a mirror image of her brother, her brother is at least nominally a
mirror of their father (Penuel 6). Penuel has deep credibility to Twelfth Night in her tremendous article
full of beyond useful information that drowns people in credibility to Viola and Olivia foiling. Penuel
continues to discuss and prove foil characters. She announces, And paradoxically, he must double the

The Progressive Movement Of The American Progressive Era
When it comes to the American Progressive Era there is really no other movement like it. This was a
movement that had not just one but many faces that ranged from people as big as Theodore Roosevelt
and Woodrow Wilson to people like Jane Addams that accomplished so much. It was a movement so
broad that it encompassed basically everyone and spoke not just to but for all those excluded from
power. It also wasn t just one big movement but a conglomeration of them varying from social, to
economic, to political. After the Gilded Age and the rapid start of Industrialization many Americans
were concerned that urbanization as well as trusts and monopolies were taking over the nation. In
theory the Progressive movement was a response to this as well as the breakdown of representative
government, the exploitation of women and children, and the growth of financial and industrial
concentration.
Jane Addams particular role in the movement showed how it wasn t just the unhappy elite or middle
class who wanted change but also the women, immigrants, blacks, and the poor. With the writing of
her book Twenty Years at Hull House Addams wanted to share the beliefs and ideals that she had
always nurtured and tried to accomplish. This was her belief in bringing all members of society into
the scope of democracy and to reach a compromise that protected the rights of the individual while
fulfilling the need of the nation as a whole. Progressives as a whole usually drew from either the

The War Of Ancient Egypt Essay
WAR IN ANCIENT EGYPT
Introduction: I chose this book because of my newfound appreciation of Egyptian warfare. I had
always been fascinated by Egyptian history, but had somewhat dismissed the study thereof. I highly
suggest this book to anyone studying Egyptian warfare. It analyzes in great depth, the New Kingdom
and its war strategies prior to the Egyptians takeover of Syria. The excruciating detail in which
Egyptologist, Anthony Spalinger articulates has details for the novice, the middle student, and even an
instructor of ancient civilizations.
Summary: Elaborated from a militarist and often scientific point of view, hieroglyphs, reliefs, and

Purpose: Anthony J. Spalinger tells us that his purpose is to enable the reader to gain a more thorough
knowledge of the New Kingdom in ancient Egypt from 1550 1070 B.C.E. Instead of bombarding the
reader with an extensive list of wars during this timeframe, Spalinger promises to present his

Identifying Disqualified Persons

financial officers, and (4) those others who facts and circumstances tend to show have substantial
influence over the affairs of an organization, it may seem that The Healthcare system s CEO,COO s,
some affiliated Physicians and Directors with significant contributions would be classified as

greatest risk of personal liability for directors. The Conflict of Interest Policy provisions in regards to
self dealing should be clear and broadly disseminated to all directors about the importance of potential
conflicts disclosure.
Declaration of Interest
The policy should also include how the board members disclose their personal and financial interests
and how they should deal with gifts or other incentives made to them in the course of their role on the
Board. All Board Directors can declare all material facts or Financial Interests1 concerning the
existence and nature of a potential Conflict of Interest and the relationship of any Interested Director .

I was always interested in understand wf the american (capitalize proper nouns) culture. When I first

about friendship. According to the author of the book American Ways (written by Gary Althen with
Janet Bennet), americans do not like to feel dependent on someone or that someone become V
dependent on them. The author also said that americans have different groups of friends. Friends to go
to the movie, to study, and so on. For my research I interviewed 15 americans, namely 12 students of

Americans need to survive.
Critical Infrastructure
Protecting America s critical infrastructure and key assets is a formidable challenge. Our
technologically complex society creates an infinite amount of potential targets. It is pretty much

Risk can be defined as R=f(C, V, T). R stands for the level of risk and helps to establish priority for a

easily attacked than others (Gaines and Kappeler, 2012). T stands for the likelihood that a target will
be attacked. Once security goals have been established and risk has been assessed the next thing to do

Write An Essay On The Effects Of Shooting A Basketball
Basketball is a widely known game around the world. Played by both men and women it is one of the
more popular sports around. Made in December of 1891 by Dr. James Naismith it is still being played
today. Although basketball looks like a lot of running, dribbling, and shooting you ll learn that there is
a lot more things that go into it. The art of shooting a basketball is a whole lot more than just aiming at
the goal and flicking your wrist. You have to be able to have the right arc and trajectory to be able to
get the ball through the hoop. Not only do those things go into a jump shot, but also spin is very
important in shooting a shot. For instance, if you have the right speed and direction of spin on the ball
than if you miss your shot, the way the ball spins off the rim or backboard may result in you hitting a
lucky shot. The effects of air resistance of the ball are so small because of small velocities, so spin of a
shot in air is not useful. What spin is useful for is for a better chance of the ball going in if the ball hits
the rim (Kentridge). If you have the right amount of spin, trajectory, and arc on the ball than the better
chance you have of getting the perfect swish. The backspin, after contact with the back rim or board,
will result in a change in velocity opposite to the spin direction, changing an equal angle rebound into
a velocity more toward the net (Willis). Backspin is very crucial in shooting a ball. If you do not have
rotation on your ball then more than likely you will miss most of the shots you take. They will just
bounce off of the rim or backboard without having a chance of bouncing in. With the spin on a shot,

The Transformation Of Human Development
Chapter 2 The Beginning from conception to birth illustrates that the human development begins even
at a stage of one s life that has not even formed yet. Every person starts life as a single cell, called a
zygote. (Berger, 48) The zygote contains characteristics that create universal and unique
characteristics of each human (Berger, 48) The universal characteristics that each unit of life contains
molecules that are full of information and instructions called DNA. Human development begins from
zygote to newborn in which prenatal development is divided into three categories: Germinal period,
Embryonic period, and fetal period. (Berger, 58) The Germinal Period appears begins during the first 2
weeks after conception. The zygote begins duplication and division, in which the 23 pairs of
chromosomes duplicate and divide to for new cells that also go through the same process, from one
cell duplicating into two, then four, and then eight, and continuing on. Stem cells are the first cells
processed to complete the characteristics of an individual by allowing these cells to create others.
(Berger, 58) A process called differentiation determines which cells are going to function as what and
where. For example, some cells will be sent to create and take control of the eyes. All cells have
important tasks and jobs that they are assigned. The last stages of this period uses other cells to form a
shell that will become the placenta in which it surrounds and protects the

The Two Pieces Of Paintings
The two pieces of artworks from the list of sacred places I chose to compare were the Ziggurat of Ur
in Iraq and the Great Stupa in India. The first piece of Artwork was originally located in the city of Ur,
it is called the Ziggurat of Ur. The Ziggurat of Ur was built by the Sumerians. The Sumerians were the
first group of people in Mesopotamia, known as the cradle of civilization. They invented the first form
of writing known as cuneiform, along with the wheel. Sumerians worshipped many Gods and
Goddesses in temples or located in ziggurats (Gateways to Art, 2012, p.371). Ziggurats are known as
Mesopotamian temples or pyramids that grew in size toward the bottom, constructed from mud and
bricks. The Ziggurats were man made mountains which housed Gods and Goddesses. The Ziggurats of
Ur happen to resemble the Egyptian pyramids however they weren t produced to specifically to bury
the decease. The authors of Gateways to Art summarizes: The architectural design of the Ziggurats of
Ur is mudbrick structures made up of three stepped levels, accessed by stairways or ramps...the lowest
level is about 50ft. high and about 210 by 150 ft. in area, with others decreasing in size as they get
closer to the heavens...while the topmost platform is more than 100 ft. high (Dewitte, Larmann,

Evaluation Of An Individual s History And Early Life Span...
Sampson Laub (1993) focus on how delinquency arises in specific life span phases. They examine
what they call the stages of life course. The examination of an individual s history and early life gives
rise to the reasons behind their engagement in delinquency. Furthermore, the theory explicitly explains
why some individuals are more prone to pursue the criminal life than others.
The phases of the life span include the onset, continuance, escalation/de escalation, and desistance.
The onset phase is the reasons why individuals start committing crime. Continuance involves the
reasons the crimes keep occurring. The escalation phase involved the reasons behind the crime
becoming more severe. The de escalation phase is the reason why the crimes diminish in severity or
frequency. Finally, the desistance phase explains why offenders ultimately stop committing the crimes.
These stages of life course include young childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. The young
childhood stage is up to age 17, and includes adolescence. Any poor attachments created in this stage
give rise to the onset of delinquency. These poor attachments can emerge from their family or in
school. Common examples include parental neglect, a one parent household, and inconsistent parental
guidance and or supervision. In school, an individual may lack the ability to excel within their peer
groups, or may have a difficult time participating in extracurricular activities that take up their time.

Somalia was colonized by many different countries. It was colonized by Britain, France, Egypt,

because they wanted to guard the Suez canal. France took over a part of Somalia because they didn t

of Southern Somalia until July 1st, 1960 when they gained their own independence. Life during these
colonial times was bad in some places but not all. They were treated unfairly in most places and their
individual culture was not given respect. This was mainly due to Europe wanting it only for the
resources they would get. Italy treated them very well and fairly for a while until they decided to make
the natives adjust to Italian law. They treated them well at first because they were trying not to disturb
the colonies. The colonial government in the British Somaliland was not liked by the people. There
were many uprisings and this made the British abandon the interior of Somalia and they went for the
coasts instead. When they did this, Italy saw an opportunity to take control over the interior. After
World War 2, Somalia was given to the United Nations to become a UN trust territory. They ... Show

There isn t a strong government as they got rid of governments in the early 1990s. They realized that
having no government at all was a bad idea so they made a very light government. Since there is no
strong government there is a lot of crime. There are also some terror groups there. One of these groups
is Al Shabaab. These crimes and the terror groups are some of the reasons why life isn t very good

The Effects Of Global Finance Crisis On Brazil s Economy
The Effects of Global Finance Crisis 2008 2009 on Brazil s Economy
While researching written articles about the effects of global finance crisis 2008 2009 on Brazil s
economy, I found numerous financial researchers that had published documentations in reference to
the impact on the Brazil economy. In addition, the banks and government interactions to the global
finance crisis 2008 2009, particularly research papers, financial journals, newspapers, pamphlets, and
brochures. The Brazil government policies deal with a less openness, and its emerging economy
enabled the country finance regulators the ability to initiate moderate banking countering measures to
the crisis. These actions taken by the Brazilian government minimized the long term impacts of the
global finance crisis 2008 2009 compared to more developed nations. My goals in this paper, is to
explore the Brazil banking finance reactions, and government regulation policies that led to mitigating
the impact of the global financial crisis of 2008 2009.
To achieve this goal, I analyzed the Brazil banking sector response to the global financial crisis effect
due to the tightening of credit and higher exchange rate. Next, I researched the impacts on the
Brazilian economy affecting its imports and exports. Thirdly, impacts on the Brazil s currency, and
lastly a conclusion on the actions and impacts of the Brazil response to the financial crisis. I also
include an appendix after the Works Cited that contains images of the

Elie Wiesel Metaphor
Writing Task One
Elie Wiesel uses metaphor, connotative language, and metaphor to demonstrate that dehumanization
ultimately causes negative mental and physical changes in the victim. Metaphor demonstrates that
dehumanization causes them to lose their emotions. Metaphor these withered bodies had long
forgotten the bitter taste of tears ( Wiesel pg. 63) Elie Wiesel uses this quotation to demonstrate that
they completely forgot how to cry. The use of the phrase bitter taste of tears implies that Elie has not
cried since his arrival at Auschwitz. He has showed no love to anyone including his father. All the
emotions have been taking away including positive and negative. There is no emotion left.
Connotative language demonstrates that

Drugs And Psychoactive Drugs
Psychoactive drugs are chemicals that affect the nervous system. When a psychoactive drug is taken it
can cause changes in mood, emotions, feelings and thoughts. These drugs can also change how a
person perceives things and can alter the consciousness of that person (Plotnik Kouyoumdijian, 2014).
Psychoactive drugs can be illicit or licit, illegal or legal. Both licit and illicit psychoactive drugs can
cause affect a person. Some examples of licit psychoactive drugs are coffee, alcohol, and tobacco.
Cocaine, heroin, and LSD are all examples of illicit psychoactive drugs. In most cases the illicit
psychoactive drugs have some more recognizable symptoms. But both illicit and licit drugs cause
visible symptoms in the people that use these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even after a addict has stopped using a drug they often relapse and begin using the drug again. Both
behavioral and environmental factors play a role in addiction. Some environmental factors that can
play a role in addiction are parents, family members, and peers abusing drugs. These environmental
factors play a role in a person developing an addiction because they are around it and see it, that is all
they know. Genetic factors are inherited. If a parent is an addict the children is likely to be a addict.
People who have an addiction are likely to build up a tolerance against the drug. Tolerance means a
person who uses a drug repeatedly over a period of time, the original dosage of the drug will not give
the desired effect, so a higher dosage is needed to get the desired effect ( Addiction , 2017).
Dependency
There are two main types of dependency. The first type of dependency is physiological dependency,
this means that the change in the nervous system so that a person now needs to take the drug to
prevent the occurrence of painful withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawals are painful physical and
psychological symptoms that take place after a person who is dependent on drugs stops using the drug.
Withdrawals can cause various side effects that range from uncomfortable pain to fatality. Some of the
symptoms of withdrawal are fatigue, anxiety, vomiting, depression,

Effects Of Adolf Hitler
Up to twenty million people died because of the power and influence of one man. This man was
known as the Fuhrer or Adolf Hitler. He corrupted the minds of millions by his influence. Adolf Hitler
hated Jews because of the rough childhood he experienced. His hatred for Jews lead to the annihilation
of millions. Adolf Hitler, born in 1889 Austria, grew up with a loving mother and a dad who moved
them around a lot and beat Adolf regularly. In 1903 his father passed away leaving him with relieve,
and allowing him to pursue his dreams of becoming an artist. Though he started to miss school
because of health issues which caused a problem when he applied to an art university. When he
applied to the art university the Jewish professor rejected Adolf from attending the school. This even
started his hatred for Jews. Then, shortly after he got rejected from the art university, his mother died

Kentucky s Role During The Civil War
Kentucky s Role during the Civil War The world has faced the dangers of war almost since the
beginnings of time, and America in the mid 1800 s was no different. Despite the Union having won its
freedom from England during the Revolutionary War less than a century before, problems were
brewing internally within the young and rapidly expanding country. As slavery boomed in the
southern states, the North grew less and less content with this state of affairs. It is said that to southern
whites, the Republican victory in 1860 presented an immediate danger to the slave owning republic
that had existed since 1776 (Henretta, 2012, p. 418). Southerners were not ready to lose one of their
most valuable commodities, slaves, which they feared would happen under the leadership of Abraham
Lincoln, although he promised to safeguard slavery where it existed but vowed to prevent its
expansion (Henretta, 2012, p. 420). Unheeding of Lincoln s vows, and hoping to preserve the
individual state s rights, radical southerners chose the dangerous enterprise of secession (Henretta,
2012, p. 418). This secession began first in the state of South Carolina, when on December 20, 1860 a
unanimous vote was taken to dissolve the union now subsisting between South Carolina and the other
states (Henretta, 2012, p.418). This idea of secession spread quickly to the surrounding southern
states, resulting in five other states declaring secession within the month. At a meeting of the seceding

Slow To Remove Stigma Frank Haynie
Haynie believes the cause of this distorted reporting is due to three main problems: money, The
Bedford Guide for College Writers, 10th edition, includes the article: As Attitudes Shift on PTSD,
Media Slow to Remove Stigma, by Mike Haynie. Haynie, a U.S. Air Force veteran, is also the founder
and executive director of the Institute for Veterans and Military Families, at Syracuse University
(546). In the article, Haynie theorizes some in the media continue to perpetuate a stigma linking
military service to mental illness and violence (547). He reiterates President Bill Clinton s imperative
that Mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of. In Haynie s view, the inevitable financially driven
media outlets are the main cause of the continued stigma casting military veterans as criminally
unstable. He views some outlets reporting as being biased toward paper selling. Haynie points out, this
[sensationalism] is seen in news articles throughout the country, with some referring to veterans as
ticking time bombs (547). Stories are skewed to gain the attention of consumers. The media s behavior
suggests that readers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At one end of the scale, is the veteran as the superhero, and at the other is the veteran as a person,
defined by post traumatic stress, domestic violence, suicide, unemployment and homelessness (548).
Somewhere in the middle is the veteran whose story is not generating paper selling sensationalism.
These veterans are instead neighbors that are quietly living their day to day lives and will rarely be
singled out. Haynie appeals to the media to exercise statistically balanced and impartial reporting
while shaping the public narrative, which the entire community of veterans will ultimately inherit
(548). In doing so, he believes the media will help to hinder the stigma linking military service, to
mental illness, and

Cutting Physical Education Classes
As a child in elementary school, I always looked forward to one class and the was physical education.
Being a little child, full of energy, I always wanted to run around and play a game of some sort.
School districts are starting to cut these classes to make more time for the core classes, which are
English, social studies, and math. One third of students under the age of 17 are overweight, and 1/6 of
the students, that are overweight are obese (Costanza par. 6). Cutting physical education classes are a
big reason to blame for this. Many kid are not getting their recommended 60 minutes of physical
activity in a day. Most kids get most of their recommended time of physical activity through physical
education classes at school. So if physical

Marxism Isn t Dead Essay
ABSTRACT: I defend the continued viability of Marx s critique of capitalism against Ronald Aronson
s recent claim that because Marxists are unable to point to a social class or movement away from
capitalism, Marxism is over as a project of historical transformation. First, Marx s account of the
forced extraction of surplus labor remains true. It constitutes an indictment of the process of capital
accumulation because defenses of capitalism s right to profit based on productive contribution are
weak. If generalized, the current cooperative movement, well advanced in many nations, can displace
capitalism and thus counts as the movement Aronson challenges Marxists to point to. It will do this, I
argue, by stopping capitalist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since Marxists are unable to point to a social class or a movement embodying change away from
capitalism, Ronald Aronson, still a Marxist, concludes Marxism is over at least as a project of
historical transformation. (5) He opposes capitalism but seeks change in movements like feminism
and anti racism, especially as informed by postmodernism.
Both of these proclamations of Marxism s demise focus on Marx s political strategy for moving
toward socialism. Yet Marx s enduring pertinence lies instead in his indictment of capitalism.
Capitalism is fully alive. Over the past twenty years the United States particularly merits Marx s
indictment for its aggravations of class divisions. As the rich get richer and the poor poorer, we are all
pitted against each other, millions in the third world are killed each year by humanly reproduced
poverty, environmental despoilation proceeds out of control, and handy advantages of race, gender or
nationality are used to exclude our neighbors. Thus, since capitalism isn t dead, neither is the heart of
Marxism.
I find two errors in Aronson s views: first, there are large anti capitalist movements afoot meriting
Marxists support. Secondly, socialists work not for Marxism, which is a theory, but for socialism,
which is a future non capitalist state of affairs. (6) What is

The decision was made to attend a service at Our Lady of Grace Church which is located on South Chapman Street and off of West Market Street in Greensboro that was built in 1952. As you enter the church, the first thing noticed is how large the church is on the inside as well as the outside. Beautiful tall cathedral ceilings with archways, after archways, after archways, and a beautiful altar. The first thing you do is dip your fingers in the bowl containing holy water and cross yourself. According to websites, this is to remember your baptism. If you have not been baptized you do not dip your fingers in the water. After dipping into the holy water, you bless yourself by saying In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit while doing the motion of a cross on the forehead, lower chest, left shoulder, then right shoulder. Walking to the pew, there are some people who bow, there are some people, who bend their knees, and there are some people who actually go all the way down to the ground. The reason for the bow is to bow to the altar, genuflect to the tabernacle. Genuflecting is when the right knee touches the floor and the tabernacle is where the Body of Christ is kept. Once at the seats, the entrance song begins. This signals the start of Mass. This Sunday it was Praise My Soul, The King of Heaven, and Hymn. As this song is being sung, the priest and servers walk slowly to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Colonisation In Australia Colonisation in Australia is followed by 5 steps, according to Professor Virgillio Enriquez. Step 1, includes the denial of culture within the indigenous society. This first step to this process of colonisation, also gives perspectives on the way colonisers display ignorance upon different cultures. This initial step also includes the gradual withdrawal of cultural practices, as indigenous people may develop close relationships with the colonised strangers and eventually adapt to their culture. Due to the advanced culture of the colonisers, some may become converted and eventually turn against their original culture. With the denial of indigenous culture, step 2 of colonisation was invoked, with the destruction of anything representing their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This phase can become dangerous as it further invokes a division between the indigenous society and the non indigenous society. The lasting of the mourning phase cannot be generalised as it is different for every individual, as the effect of the tragedy can effect individuals differently, as there was a great deal of inhumane suffering on the indigenous society. Furthermore the phase that is considered the most crucial is the dreaming phase. The dreaming phase includes the imagining of a decolonised future, these can be expressed through debate or consultation. Within this phase the colonisers are able to explore their own culture, considering the new social structure. However in order for the development of a new social structure, time is needed or the full potential of the dream may not be succeeded. • 5. We Have Too Much Power In A Communist Society Merriam Webster dictionary defines the word own as, to have power or mastery over, this mean anyone who owns something, has the power to do what they want with it. We must first ask, who gives us the power to own something? Is it the government? Is it our peers? Is it ourselves? These are the questions that must be answered to say who owns anything at all. The correct answer would be that it is a combination between the three, that we as a society are the ones to say who owns something. First and foremost, the type of government plays a major role in deciding how much power an individual has in owning something. In a capitalist society, anyone can own anything, because it is a free market. The individuals of this society have all agreed, that paper money has value, and can be exchanged for goods, property, or anything for that matter. Since this currency is in play, the people can purchase what they want. The government then keeps track of most expensive items such as car, land, and buildings. If there is a dispute over ownership, then the government can enforce the law, allowing the rightful owner to own their property. In a Communist society however, the government is ruled under a dictatorship. The ideal communist society would be that everyone gets an equal share. This means that an individual cannot own more than their peer, and nobody gets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a democratic society, the people get to vote on the laws of the country, saying who can own what and how much they can own of it. The government would then take the laws that the people voted for, and enforce them, so everyone can own what is theirs. Without the government enforcing these laws, then anarchy would ensue, allowing only the strongest to own items, because they can fight for their property. If the society is not democratic, then the peers have no say into what everyone can own. It is up to the leaders of the country to say who can own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay on The Importance of Identity in Homer s Odyssey The Importance of Identity in Homer s Odyssey Within the epic poem The Odyssey , Homer presents the story of Odysseus s quest to find his home and his identity. According to Homer s account, with its origin in oral tradition, the two quests are interchangeable, as a mortal defines himself with his home, his geographic origin, his ancestors, his offspring, etc. But in addition to this Homer illustrates the other aspect of human identity, shaped by the individual and his actions so that he may be recognized in the outside world. Through this Homer presents Odysseus in two ways: the first his internally given identity as ruler and native of Ithaca, son of Laertes, father of Telemachos; the second the definition of the external world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Homer presents this clearly in the following instances: Helen s description of Odysseus disguising himself to enter into the city of Troy and in doing so gaining information that would allow him to destroy his mortal enemies, a trademark ploy that he also uses when returning to his homeland of Ithaca to infiltrate the rank of suitors; additionally in the sequence with the Cyclops in which Odysseus eludes danger by taking on the guise of Noman or one without a name . For Odysseus, the ability to disguise his identity presents an opportunity through which he can conquer his enemies at Troy and thereby establish great fame and external identity through public recognition. Through the voice of Helen, Homer demonstrates how Odysseus became so unrecognizable that he was able to enter into Troy, defying both his mortal enemies and the immortal Poseidon who built Troy s walls to be impenetrable: But what a deed this one mighty man did and dared... When he had submitted himself to disfiguring blows, He threw a poor covering over his shoulders and in the likeness Of a servant he entered the enemy s broad streeted city... In that guise he entered the city of the Trojans. They all Overlooked him. I alone recognized him as he was. And I questioned him. He eluded me cunningly, But when I was

As Piggy is franticly trying to reassure himself that not everyone died in the crash, Ralph tried to be not too obviously uninterested as Golding describes it. • 11. My Reading And Writing Recovery Program When I was in the first grade there was a state mandated test that all first graders took to determine what skill level we were at with our reading and writing. I was really excited about this test because, I loved reading and writing so I felt I was good at it. However after the test results came back I was put in a reading and writing recovery program. For obvious reasons I was extremely disappointed, and determined to get back into my regular class. As the year progressed I became increasingly better with reading and writing, by the end of that year I was 2 grade levels above what I was supposed to be at. I even had my Young Authors book put into to finals, I got to go to a seminar at MSSU about writing. I like to look back on that memory because it reminds me that I can do anything I put my mind to no matter where I start. As years go by my passion for reading and writing keeps growing. My 8th grade year, however, was probably my worst year yet. I really struggled with motivation to do my work, to go anywhere, to see anyone, I really just wanted to stay in my room by myself all the time. Then I kind of rediscovered my love for reading and, would read all the time, it even got to the point where I would read multiple books a week. Some people decide to give up or for others graduating high school is their own success. Everyone has different perspectives of what success is or means to them. In my opinion success is when you re content with the goals you ve accomplish or have yet to achieve. If you ve achieved your goals then you have succeeded. Even if it s the simplest thing, to another person that shouldn t matter because your success will please you and not others. • 13. The Effects Of Child Poverty There is no trust more sacred than the one the world holds with children. There is no duty more important than ensuring that their rights are respected, that their welfare is protected, that their lives are free from fear and want and that they can grow up in peace (Kofi Annan). Children are like flowers. They must be loved, protected, and nourished in order to bloom. If they lack any of these essentials, they are most likely going to suffer and die without being able to serve their purpose. There is this universal hope that all children will flourish in life; however, there are certain circumstances that draw a line between the fortunate and unfortunate. In this case, the factor that dictates their future is their status in society, such as having the leisure of being able to attend facilities that aren t available to others. Poverty in children has numerous psychological, physical and mental effects and well being. Based on the context that the children operate within their social and academic forte, poverty affects the children unfavorably in numerous distinct ways. Children living in poverty are often denied access to basic needs and proper living conditions for healthy growth and development. As such, the insufficiency or dearth of the needs affect their lives in a great way that constrain their normal growth to become productive people in the world. • 14. Reliability And Validity Of Interviews Essay Then turn to interviews. Interviews are classed as a qualitative research method and remain one of the most utilised research methods in industrial and HRM research. Whipp (1998, p.55) notes that The interview is the primary means of accessing the experiences and subjective views of actors . The main advantage of the interviews is that the rich data can be obtained from an interview. According to White (1989) the research into solicitor s perceptions of ACAS was relatively easy to set up and forty interviews are completed for five months. It is necessary to use interviews to gain more detailed, in depth explanations from participants, which may provide a much better understanding of their perceptions and actions. On the other hand, The time consuming nature of preparing, arranging, conducting and writing up interview, which refers to that it is probable only a limited number of research participants can be interviewed within a short time period may be the biggest disadvantage of the interviews. The reliability and validity of any research conducted are clearly of importance. Describe the steps that healthcare organizations can take to improve this situation. Health care industry is a huge growing industry, the percentage of people aging in America is increasing, According to The New York Times In 2010, there were 40 million people age 65 and over in the United States, accounting for 13 percent of the total population. The older population in 2030 is projected to be twice as large as in 2000, growing from 35 million to 72 million and representing nearly 20 percent of the total U.S. population. The demand for medical care is expected to increase in the near future, so in order to meet this demand there is need for more people to enter into the field of healthcare. • 19. Response To Text The Turning By Tim Winton Response to text: The turning The Turning by Australian author Tim Winton is a collection of seventeen short stories. All stories are connected and he does this in a way so that no matter what order you read the stories in they will all make sense in the end. The way Winton has linked the stories together is he has included a character that the audience all ready knows in more than one story, to widen the range of characters e.g. the first story Big World mentions a character, Vic Lang, the coppers kid that will later show up in numerus other stories. He also connects the book by having the main setting as the town a majority of characters live in, Angelus, which then brings a familiar location to the reader. Winton s stories share the theme or morale s which group together and make sense when the audience reads the whole book. Three stories that have a strong theme are Big world, Abbreviation, and On her knees. The themes represented in the book are self discovery, coming of age, overcoming the odds, and the theme of sticking with Family manages to squeeze in as well. ... They ditch their work for a dream they had of blue skies and worm weather, that s when they buy a Kombi and shoot up north . The characters also question them selves when working at the meat works and think why they are still there when they hate the job. In many ways, Michelangelo Antonioni has revolutionized the realm of art cinema and is responsible for the foundations that the style now rests upon. One of his most influential films was titled Blow Up. In his first English language film, Antonioni examines themes of perception and reality, especially in regard to society and the individual. First, the reappearance of Hemmings wife and her claim that she is in Paris is surprising and confusing. This interaction adds a sense of confusion and detracts from and already limited amount of information and understanding available to the viewer. The plot line between Hemmings and his model wife is made clear to be of no use to function of the film, only as an event leading to nothing. It is also in this party that the protagonist confronts his publisher about his discovery. His disregard for the subject matter can be interpreted as society s care free ideology and false reality. This is made explicitly evident when Ron tells Thomas that he is not a photographer, implying he does not care about his quest. Ron, by choosing to ignore the facts presented before him, is making himself ignorant in an attempt to carry on a life of uninterrupted pleasure. This removal from reality is one of the fundamental issues recurrent in this film. Hemmings is faced with a choice between what is moral and what is comfortable. Vehicle towing, health services, police protection, and solid waste collection are among the many services and functions that government has contracted out. Advantages Of Hiring Contract Employees. Why is contracting out so attractive to a public agency? Privatizing has its advantages that represent benefits to the agency. Although reducing costs and improving services have been cited as the most important reasons services are privatized by agencies, contracting out offers the attractiveness of hiring a contract employee over a public employee. This occurs because of the apparent advantages offered by such options (Dilger et al. 23). Some advantages of hiring a contract employee over a civil servant are as follows: Hiring And Training Costs Are Reduced Reduction Of Hiring Costs Hiring a civil service employee involves recruiting, testing, interviewing, and selecting a candidate or candidates for given positions. Hazing is another variable method closely aligned with fraternities and sororities, but hazing for different fraternities and sororities can have vastly different outcomes. Made in December of 1891 by Dr. James Naismith it is still being played today. Although basketball looks like a lot of running, dribbling, and shooting you ll learn that there is a lot more things that go into it. The art of shooting a basketball is a whole lot more than just aiming at the goal and flicking your wrist. You have to be able to have the right arc and trajectory to be able to get the ball through the hoop. Not only do those things go into a jump shot, but also spin is very important in shooting a shot. For instance, if you have the right speed and direction of spin on the ball than if you miss your shot, the way the ball spins off the rim or backboard may result in you hitting a lucky shot. The effects of air resistance of the ball are so small because of small velocities, so spin of a shot in air is not useful. What spin is useful for is for a better chance of the ball going in if the ball hits the rim (Kentridge). If you have the right amount of spin, trajectory, and arc on the ball than the better chance you have of getting the perfect swish. The backspin, after contact with the back rim or board, will result in a change in velocity opposite to the spin direction, changing an equal angle rebound into a velocity more toward the net (Willis). Backspin is very crucial in shooting a ball. If you do not have rotation on your ball then more than likely you will miss most of the shots you take. The zygote begins duplication and division, in which the 23 pairs of chromosomes duplicate and divide to for new cells that also go through the same process, from one cell duplicating into two, then four, and then eight, and continuing on. Stem cells are the first cells processed to complete the characteristics of an individual by allowing these cells to create others. They examine what they call the stages of life course. The examination of an individual s history and early life gives rise to the reasons behind their engagement in delinquency. Furthermore, the theory explicitly explains why some individuals are more prone to pursue the criminal life than others. The phases of the life span include the onset, continuance, escalation/de escalation, and desistance. The onset phase is the reasons why individuals start committing crime. Continuance involves the reasons the crimes keep occurring. The escalation phase involved the reasons behind the crime becoming more severe. The de escalation phase is the reason why the crimes diminish in severity or frequency. Finally, the desistance phase explains why offenders ultimately stop committing the crimes. These stages of life course include young childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. The young childhood stage is up to age 17, and includes adolescence. Any poor attachments created in this stage give rise to the onset of delinquency. These poor attachments can emerge from their family or in school. The mirrors on the walls staring at my jiggling fat from all angles. Head splitting music ravishes my ears through the chaos of weights clashing and ropes smacking the floor. My classmates glare at me with their squinty hypocritical eyes. • 41. Southern Somalia Research Paper Somalia was colonized by many different countries. It was colonized by Britain, France, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Italy. Egypt had taken over the coast in 1875. Britain colonized it in 1887. They did this because they wanted to guard the Suez canal. France took over a part of Somalia because they didn t get any land in Egypt. In the early 1900 s, Italy gained control of Southern Somalia. They had control of Southern Somalia until July 1st, 1960 when they gained their own independence. Life during these colonial times was bad in some places but not all. They were treated unfairly in most places and their individual culture was not given respect. This was mainly due to Europe wanting it only for the resources they would get. Italy treated them very well and fairly for a while until they decided to make the natives adjust to Italian law. They treated them well at first because they were trying not to disturb the colonies. The colonial government in the British Somaliland was not liked by the people. There were many uprisings and this made the British abandon the interior of Somalia and they went for the coasts instead. When they did this, Italy saw an opportunity to take control over the interior. After World War 2, Somalia was given to the United Nations to become a UN trust territory. They ... The Effects Of Global Finance Crisis On Brazil s Economy The Effects of Global Finance Crisis 2008 2009 on Brazil s Economy While researching written articles about the effects of global finance crisis 2008 2009 on Brazil s economy, I found numerous financial researchers that had published documentations in reference to the impact on the Brazil economy. In addition, the banks and government interactions to the global finance crisis 2008 2009, particularly research papers, financial journals, newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures. The Brazil government policies deal with a less openness, and its emerging economy enabled the country finance regulators the ability to initiate moderate banking countering measures to the crisis. These actions taken by the Brazilian government minimized the long term impacts of the global finance crisis 2008 2009 compared to more developed nations. My goals in this paper, is to explore the Brazil banking finance reactions, and government regulation policies that led to mitigating the impact of the global financial crisis of 2008 2009. To achieve this goal, I analyzed the Brazil banking sector response to the global financial crisis effect due to the tightening of credit and higher exchange rate. Next, I researched the impacts on the Brazilian economy affecting its imports and exports. Thirdly, impacts on the Brazil s currency, and lastly a conclusion on the actions and impacts of the Brazil response to the financial crisis. • 47. Kentucky s Role During The Civil War Kentucky s Role during the Civil War The world has faced the dangers of war almost since the beginnings of time, and America in the mid 1800 s was no different. Despite the Union having won its freedom from England during the Revolutionary War less than a century before, problems were brewing internally within the young and rapidly expanding country. As slavery boomed in the southern states, the North grew less and less content with this state of affairs. It is said that to southern whites, the Republican victory in 1860 presented an immediate danger to the slave owning republic that had existed since 1776 (Henretta, 2012, p. 418). Southerners were not ready to lose one of their most valuable commodities, slaves, which they feared would happen under the leadership of Abraham Lincoln, although he promised to safeguard slavery where it existed but vowed to prevent its expansion (Henretta, 2012, p. 420). Unheeding of Lincoln s vows, and hoping to preserve the individual state s rights, radical southerners chose the dangerous enterprise of secession (Henretta, 2012, p. 418). This secession began first in the state of South Carolina, when on December 20, 1860 a unanimous vote was taken to dissolve the union now subsisting between South Carolina and the other states (Henretta, 2012, p.418). This idea of secession spread quickly to the surrounding southern states, resulting in five other states declaring secession within the month. At a meeting of the seceding ... • 48. Slow To Remove Stigma Frank Haynie Haynie believes the cause of this distorted reporting is due to three main problems: money, The Bedford Guide for College Writers, 10th edition, includes the article: As Attitudes Shift on PTSD, Media Slow to Remove Stigma, by Mike Haynie. Haynie, a U.S. Air Force veteran, is also the founder and executive director of the Institute for Veterans and Military Families, at Syracuse University (546). In the article, Haynie theorizes some in the media continue to perpetuate a stigma linking military service to mental illness and violence (547). He reiterates President Bill Clinton s imperative that Mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of. In Haynie s view, the inevitable financially driven media outlets are the main cause of the continued stigma casting military veterans as criminally unstable. He views some outlets reporting as being biased toward paper selling. Haynie points out, this [sensationalism] is seen in news articles throughout the country, with some referring to veterans as ticking time bombs (547). • 50. Marxism Isn t Dead Essay ABSTRACT: I defend the continued viability of Marx s critique of capitalism against Ronald Aronson s recent claim that because Marxists are unable to point to a social class or movement away from capitalism, Marxism is over as a project of historical transformation. First, Marx s account of the forced extraction of surplus labor remains true. It constitutes an indictment of the process of capital accumulation because defenses of capitalism s right to profit based on productive contribution are weak. If generalized, the current cooperative movement, well advanced in many nations, can displace capitalism and thus counts as the movement Aronson challenges Marxists to point to. It will do this, I argue, by stopping capitalist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since Marxists are unable to point to a social class or a movement embodying change away from capitalism, Ronald Aronson, still a Marxist, concludes Marxism is over at least as a project of historical transformation. (5) He opposes capitalism but seeks change in movements like feminism and anti racism, especially as informed by postmodernism. Both of these proclamations of Marxism s demise focus on Marx s political strategy for moving toward socialism. Yet Marx s enduring pertinence lies instead in his indictment of capitalism. Capitalism is fully alive. Over the past twenty years the United States particularly merits Marx s indictment for its aggravations of class divisions. As the rich get richer and the poor poorer, we are all pitted against each other, millions in the third world are killed each year by humanly reproduced poverty, environmental despoilation proceeds out of control, and handy advantages of race, gender or nationality are used to exclude our neighbors. Thus, since capitalism isn t dead, neither is the heart of Marxism. I find two errors in Aronson s views: first, there are large anti capitalist movements afoot meriting Marxists support. Secondly, socialists work not for Marxism, which is a theory, but for socialism, which is a future non capitalist state of affairs. (6) What is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
