Why I Should Pay Attention
Who I Will Be
Walk down any road in Cologne, Germany and you ll see the scars that war has left, streaked
across the cobblestone. Take a glance in any house and you ll find a family devastated by the war
that promised salvation to it s citizens. This is how we live, in the military heart and pride of Nazi
Germany, a place that was intended to revolutionize the future of our country.
My father always tells me that in this revolutionary era, every man must stand and fight for
something. I want to stand for something, I really do. I want to be part of the purification and
salvation of the world. It seems like I ve been designed by my society to stand for this cause and I
ve been bred to be willing to die for it.
All of these thoughts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I know that we will be studying it at Hitler Youth, as we have been every day for the past few
weeks. It suddenly strikes me as funny that the school has so little government funding that it s
students literally starve in the classroom but there s an abundance of our fГјhrer s beloved book to
go around.
Smirking at my depressing inside joke while I exit the school house is probably a mistake
because I ve caught the attention of this horrible kid, Henry, who sits two rows in front of me in
class. The thing about Henry is that he is a really advanced student and the teachers are always
giving him praise for his devotion to the Nazi Party. Despite that, he s a horrible kid with a horrible
attitude.
What s funny, Otto? Henry says, sauntering towards me like he enjoys the fact that nothing good
can come from this confrontation.
It s none of your business. Let s not start this now, okay, I say, glancing at the crowd of skinny
German teenagers who are already gathering to watch Henry pick on me. Last time he confronted
me like this, the teachers had to pull us apart, to keep us from breaking eachother s noses.
I m not starting anything, Henry sneers. Just some friendly conversation. He s never needed a
reason to start a fight. Besides, he s always had it out for me because of my eyes. You see, he s got
these nice, safe, german blue eyes and he has little tolerance for people who don t. I ve got

Book Review of The Things they Carried Essay examples
Tim O Brien s, The Things they Carried is a riveting tale of struggle and sacrifice, self
indulgence and self pity, and the intrapersonal battles that reeked havoc on even the most battle
tested soldiers. O Brien is able to express these ideas through eloquent writing and descriptive
language that makes the reader feel as if he were there. The struggle to avoid cowardice is a
prevailing idea in all of O Brien s stories. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;In On the Rainy River , O
Brien writes of intrapersonal struggle in its most profound form. The gripping torture of
indecision seemed to paralyze Lt. Jimmy Cross in every move he made. Fear is what kept him

Issues of war ripped through families, cities, and eventually, the entire country. By making the
decision to go to the war, some would place the distinction of bravery on Cross. He, however, felt
like a coward. For he had given in to the society around him and their pressures. Instead of
following his heart and staying true to his morals, Cross took the easy way out. By fighting in
the war, he avoided the criticism and ridicule which marred draft dodgers and the lifetime of
embarrassment that was sure to follow. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; The narrator is torn
between two worlds. In his heart and mind, he knows that the war is wrong and unjust. In his
family, town, and nation, however, he was expected to fight. He must cross a number of hurdles
on his way to a life altering decision. It seems the man has gotten beyond the idea of self
embarrassment. The problem for Cross, it seems, is the fact that his decision affects everyone
around him. Like any young man in those times, he was scared. Not scared of death, but scared
of life after the war. He knows that is he does not go to the war, his mother, his father, and all his
friends will share the burden of his embarrassment. That is why he must go to the war. In a noble
sort of way, Cross saves his family the embarrassment of draft dodging. In his mind, however, he
is a coward, a man who simply put, could not stand up to himself in a time of turmoil. This lack of
confidence and self assurance is something

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Golden Jewellery
Golden Jewellery: To manufacture golden jewellery the moulding technique that can be used is
investment casting because investment casting is usually used to make small components with
complex shapes. The process of investment casting is as follow:
First of all the component to be made is moulded into wax by pouring the wax in a metal die to
make the shape of the component. the metal core is replaced by a wax core then it is all dipped
into liquefied ceramic several times making the mould become thicker and thicker after the ceramic
cools down, the mould is heated to 730 degrees which causes the wax to melt out of the ceramic
mould and also it makes the mould much more stronger. the reason for the mould becoming
stronger is that the heat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Density Lab Report Essay
From this lab, we can learn how using the volume and mass of an object can be used to the
calculate density, and how the density can help you to identify what substance the object is made
of. We began the lab by obtaining object C and recorded the physical properties of the substance.
Next, the object was placed onto a scale to determine the massin grams (56.56g). We used a ruler to
measure the radius of the base (.6cm) and the height (5cm) of the cylinder shaped substance. We
plugged these measurements into the volumeformula for a cylinder (V
=ПЂr2 h) in order to determine the volume of the object (5.652cm3). We plugged the mass and
volume into the density formula (D=m/v) and determined the density of object C (10.0 g/cm3). This
answer was not the exact same number as the known densities given to us, but the ... Show more

error if object C s density is compared to the densities of all of the known densities, meaning the
density of object C is most similar to that of copper. Not only did the density point to this object
being copper, but the bronze color possessed by object C was similar to the bronzey copper color
of copper substances alluded to them being the same substance. Using the evidence provided by
both the densities and colors of these substances, we identified object C as being copper. We used

Who Is Bilbo A Hero
Where would we be without heroes in fiction? What would we have left? No Luke Skywalker,
Harry Potter, Superman, Sir Lancelot, or Captain Ahab. Name a work of fiction that does not
revolve around or at least include a hero of some caliber. Ask yourself what stories could we still
enjoy without the greatest characters of literary history. We as people have shown time and time
again that nothing can beat our love for heroes, they have a special place in our hearts rivaled only
by their associated villains. Without them most stories just wouldn t be the same. The Hobbitis a
perfect example of the importance of heroism in literary fiction.
Bilbo Baggins is by no means a typical hero. Heroes are usually portrayed as being tall and
handsome. Bilbo is a halfling, therefore he is short and portly with hairy feet. Heroes are
warriors and their courage is apparent. Bilbo lives in a cozy hole in the ground spending his time
blowing smoke rings and eating more than three meals a day. Heroes are also normally viewed as
fearless and good at fighting, while Bilbo has never used a weapon before the events of The Hobbit,
and is afraid of the very idea of leaving his home of Hobbiton. When you compare Bilbo to
someone like Superman the differences are obvious. They are two very different characters, and
yet they are both heroes. Bilbo is undeniably very unusual when compared to the stereotypical
archetype of a hero that I described earlier. However, those qualifiers that I listed, while

Male Body Demographic Research
Research has shown that men who are exposed to more media images tend to have more body
dissatisfaction than those men that are not exposed or not exposed as much to media images. I
will examine the impact that media images have on college males, and their desire to be more
muscular. Specifically, I will examine the effect of media images that come from movie shoots
and fashion magazines which the man s performance is based on their appearance compared to
images of regular, everyday males. I plan to sample of 100 malestudents (Mage = xx.zz years, age

Radical is a word that is generally associated with current abominable global events. But the
word radical, means change relating to or affecting the fundamental nature of something. When I
first set out my college passage, I was pursuing a degree in aerospace engineering in the state of
Texas. This required me to take heavy math and science classes allowing me to develop a unique
way of approaching problems and their respective solutions. When I was a child I never watched

Economics teaches us that we live in a finite world with finite resources and therefore
terraforming other worlds is a necessity for us. I was contributing my life to something much
greater than myself. Throughout my engineering days, I developed a strong dislike for the
world of business; I saw it corrupt and detrimental to the overall progress of humanity. The
concentration of wealth, incentives for singular/small group behavior, and the probability for
decisions to be based on the outcome of short term gains as opposed to long term environmental
gains. In short, I felt that business created a division amongst people with their own self interest
at hand and therefore suppressed the rate of progression. One day the ground beneath me and the
skies above me started to abruptly shift. I started seeing a place for business in not only my life
but the world. It was a process drawn out overtime, but there was one significant day, in which I
knew that to truly change the world you might just have to change yourself. I was use to observing

Gender Dimension of Brand Personality

Although masculinity and femininity are personality traits relevant to brands, their measurement
and contribution to branding theory and practice have not been examined. This article describes the

JOURNAL OF MARKETING RESEARCH, FEBRUARY 2009 King 1968). At this point, research
on how masculinity and femininity fit with the five factor model supports various relationships
between the Big Five and gender dimensions (Lippa and Connelly 1990; Marusic and Bratko 1998;
Ramanaiah and Detwiler 1992; Whitley and Gridley 1993), but because of their complex nature

for the investigation of masculinity and femininity beyond the Big Five. Second, a consideration of
gender dimensions of brand personality arises from consumers need to express themselves along

gender is part of consumers self concept (Freimuth and Hornstein 1982). Consumers draw on

Homelessness Under The Mckinney Vento Homelessness...
Homelessness is one of the oldest problems that exist, fast forward almost 40 years since it s
been recognized as one and still there has been no avail to finding a real solution. The definition of
homelessness under the McKinney Vento Homelessness Assistance Act is defined as an individual:
who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence; and a person who has a nighttime
residence that is supervised publicly or privately operated shelter, and c) an institution that provides
a temporary residence for individuals intended to be institutionalized, or a private or public place
not designed for, a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings.
Homelessness is basically another form of poverty except more extreme, yet society treats it as if
it was on another spectrum of problems. Some in society stigmatize this population by saying
things like: they re homeless because they are drug addicts, alcoholics, they don t want to work
and just live off the government for free. What many forget to think about are the factors that have
these people on the street, or the fact that they are not only experiencing personal hardship by being
without a permanent residence but emotional ones as well. Add the fact they are sometimes
discriminated against and excluded by society, and you will realize you are looking at one of the
most vulnerable populations.
This homelessness population consists of people from all age groups: infants, children, adolescents,
adulthood, and the

(France, Russia, and the United Kingdom), which ultimately fell into a hellish firestorm of mustard
gas and trench warfare in 1914 that left 18 million dead and Europes economies and production
decimated manyfold (DBQ Project, Various Document D). The destruction of the turn of the

Even in song, the Britons were as prideful as they were aggressive in colonization. Take, for
example, an excerpt of their National Anthem: When Britain first at Heaven s command / Arose
from out the azure main; / This was the charter of the land / And guardian angels sang this strain;
/ Rule Britannia! Britannia, rule the waves: / Britons never will be slaves (James Thomson and
Thomas Arne). The above speaks of arrogance and superiority, by associating themselves with a
higher power; they insinuate that Britain is the Promised Land, and by the logic that there is
only one Promised Land, they underlay that everyone else is inferior. But, as much as extreme
Nationalism does give a nice sense of pride to the people, it s also very necessary to the theatre
of politics and war. In a passage from The Age of Nationalism and Reform, it is stated that, The
extraordinary feeling that some people seem to derive from the belief that they are members of

Elizabethan Era Marriage
In the Shakespearean Era, marriage was the highlight of a person s life. Marriage usually occurred
at age 24 for women and age 27 for men, though marriage was legal at age 12 for girls and 14 for
boys. Weddings had to be preceded by three crying of the banns unless a special marriage
certificate was obtained. The wedding feast was an important part of the marriageand was
meticulously planned for. Marriages often functioned as a way for families to increase their
wealth, and women were expected to bring a dowry into the marriage. After marriage, women
were expected to obey their husbands and run their household. Shakespeare was married to
Anne Hathaway and had three children with her. In Shakespearean Era England, the legal age for
marriage was 12 for girls and 14 for boys. Despite this, most people married at a later age because
they had to save enough money to afford a marriage. The average Shakespearean Era woman got

Why Was The Visit From Commodore Perry A Turning Point In...
1. Why was the visit from Commodore Perry a turning point in Japanese history? Before 1853,
Japan remained in isolation from the other Western powers, but the arrival of Commodore
Matthew C. Perry influenced Japan to expand their trade. With the American fleet of warships
led by Perry, it intimidated Japan to open their foreign interests in hope of arising trading
opportunities from both sides. In a way, the U.S. military superiority spurred the Japanese to
agree to the Treaty of Kanagawa. This treaty allowed the return of American sailors, allowed
U.S. residence, and opened two ports in Japan. This indicated that Perry s visit marked a turning
point in Japan s history; in addition, Japan continued to negotiate treaties with U.S. and other
countries for opening their ports for trade and residence. 2. How was Japan s experience after
1854 similar to China? Japan s experiences after 1854 were very similar to those of China s. For
instance, China and Japan served as important foreign interests to the Western powers. The reason
why the Western powers were so interested in those two countries was due to the increasing rivalry
and economic interests. As a result of foreign interaction by force or intimidation, Japan and China
faced challenges such as adapting to an industrial and technological advanced society of the West.

Relationships In King Lear
William Shakespeare s King Lear is massive in scope and deals with many themes. I d like to
focus on King Lear s relationship with his daughters as it evolves throughout the play as well as
the play King Lear s themes regarding politics and politicking. The passage I think best represents
the conclusion of these themes is King Lears conversation with Cordelia in Act 5, scene 3 where
they have been taken prisoner by the English. My conclusion from reading this passage closely
is that in Shakespeare s King Lear, King Lear s speech to Cordelia regarding their impending
imprisonment builds Shakespeare s idea of caged potential and judgement for those who politic.
The first lines of this speech, No, no, no, no! Come, let s away to prison: We two alone will sing
like birds i the cage: (5.3.8 9) in response to Cordelia s question of whether they should see
Goneril and Regan, give us an idea of King Lear s mental state at this time in the play. King Lear
appears to be lucid and to have largely regained his sanity from the earlier scenes of the play
once he has reunited with Cordelia. He insists strongly, with four noes, that they should go
immediately to prison. The metaphor of Lear and Cordelia as birds in a cage implies that he and
Cordelia will have lost their freedom, as a bird in a cage loses its ability to fly. Yet, by saying
that they shall sing in this cage, Lear says that they will be happy while they have lost flight and
freedom, they will have one another. King Lear

The Human Body Is Complex, And All Humans
Paul Ojugo
The human body is complex, and all humans are similar to one another in many ways. As humans
we share a lot of characteristics in common with one another, such as having hands, feet, eyes,
nose, gender, ethnic backgrounds and etc. There has to be some characteristic or organ we have
that differentiate all of us, and all these features we have in common, and that is our brain. The brain
is one of the largest and most complex organs in the human body. It is made up more than 100
billion nerves that communicate in trillions of connections called synapses. Synapse is a junction

nervous system, including the cerebrum, basal ganglia, diencephalon, limbic system, brainstem, and

etal 1997).The largest portion of the brain is the cerebrum. This section contains tools which are
responsible for most of the brain function, and it is divided into four subsections. The temporal
lobe, the occipital lobe, parietal lobe, and frontal lobe. The cerebrum is divided into a right and left
hemisphere which are connected by axons that relay messages from one to the other. This matter
is made of nerve cells which carry signals between the organ and the nerve cells which run
through the body. The parietal lobe is one of the four lobes located in the cerebral hemisphere,
this lobe focuses on comprehension, visual functions, language, reading, and internal stimuli.
Tactile sensation and sensory comprehension are the main trait focused in this lobe. The parietal
lobe is separated into two different cortex s named sensory cortex, and motor cortex, The sensory
cortex which is located in the front portion of the parietal lobe receives information relayed from
the spinal cord regarding the position of various body parts and how they are moving, this area of

plays, showcasing the double standards society holds against women. Tis Pity She s a Whore
presents the women in the Jacobean era faced with inequality whereas The Duchess of Malfi
displays the struggles for power women had to confront living in the renaissance era. I will be

Duchess also displayed her intelligence when she said, I have heard lawyers say a contract...
(I.ii.387 388) This suggested that the Duchess was educated and was aware of all the laws and
rules, as a good ruler should be. The Duchess s first rebellion, So I, through frights and threat
nings, will assay This dangerous venture. Let old wives report I winked and chose a husband.
(I.ii.257 259) This suggested that the Duchess was independent to get what she wanted and that
she still had control over her life even though her brothers never gave her any freedom. The
Duchess also shows her bravery when she tells, Ferdinand, For know, whether I am doomed to
live or die, I can do both like a prince. Here the Duchess reminded Ferdinand that the authority
was hers and the word prince validated that authority. Even though the play has examples of the
Duchess being strong, independent, and brave and an intelligent ruler, she was judged her for her
private life rather than her positive public attributes. Julia and the Duchess both showed control
over their desires, which was not the norm in the Jacobean era, where as Annabella from Tis Pity
She s a Whore obeyed her brother when he told her to marry someone else. In addition to that in
the scene that Giovanni kills Annabella she is obedient to her brother s commands and even asks
for his forgiveness when she is dying, Forgive him, heaven, And my sins. Farewell, brother unkind,
unkind. Mercy, great heaven! Oh, oh! (V.V.92 94) This scene links to Othello, when Othello had

learners from disadvantaged locations with easy transfer of information through internet and mails

replacement to traditional learning. Users/learners would just lean on these easily available tools

generations genetically. If in case learners totally rely on the modern educational tools, then the
classroom teaching may not exist. As a result there will be unemployment to the good qualified and
potential teachers. Additionally, there might be the pressure to change the whole educational

been altered or slanted by people with their own opinions. By the year 2007 the facts are
supposed to be presented and addressed to the House of Representatives. There are many ways to
look at this subject. One is by the industry and how this subject could affects the local businesses. I
personally would feel an affect of the banning of snowmobiles in the park. I work for a company
that manufactures snowmobiles and the grooming equipment that keeps the trails open. There is a
great amount of revenue that comes from the thriving industry. There are some 85,000 visitors each
winter that generates over 30 million dollars throughout the three surrounding states. The other way
to look at this subject is the pollution that these snowmobiles create. Tests have been done to prove
that just one snowmobile creates the same amount of pollution that of 100 automobiles (The New
York Times, 2002). They generate up to 68% of all the carbon monoxide and up to 90% of all the
hydrocarbons emitted in the park. This has been proven to be a huge factor when it comes to nature
along with the plants and animals in the area. The problems I see from overturning President

An Investigation Into Response For Disaster Using...
An Investigation into Response to Disaster Using Qualitative Methods
Abstract
This study investigated the accounts of individuals involved in the London underground bombings
in 2005. Throughout this investigation, thematic analysis was conducted on six eyewitness
accounts, highlighting their feelings and actions, which came about as a result of the incident.
From these accounts I obtained 4 key themes, which were consistent components of the six
accounts. Evidently, I found that the two most common themes were helping behaviour and the
panic myth. This was rather unexpected, as initially, I expected to find irrational and helpless
behaviour, due to the panic and stress of being trapped in a bombed underground. To conclude, the
investigation illuminated the concept of helping others before helping ones self. Thus,
contradicting the concept of survival of the fittest, as in this case the fittest were those who took it
upon themselves to assist other passengers in need. Therefore, highlighting the power of empathy
which was risen with experiencing the disaster.

Context In The Old Testament
Context is the influence of circumstances around a setting, event, or situation. In our understanding
of the Old Testament, context has played a tremendous role. Whether it is literary, geographical,
or social, each one strongly affected the writing of the Old Testament. Artifacts found from the
time of the Old Testament, such as old tools or early forms of writing, like the Mesha Inscription
and the Merneptah Stele, also provide context, helping our understanding of the way in which the
Israeli people lived. Many of the stone tools discovered show us that humans have lived in the
Palestinian region for millions of years; however, the tools found of the Israelites show us they
settled on the hills of Palestine instead of on the Coastal plain.

Although research generally confirms that pay for performance plans can influence greater
outcomes, it is unclear how effective different pay plans are relative to each other (Park, 2012).
Like most things in business, compensation is something that requires evaluation, study,
assessment, strategy, modeling and integration. Achieving a pay for performance culture does not
happen without paying attention to the behaviors, activities, rewards and motivations that have to
be linked and reinforced through a well engineered and successfully executed process. Actually if
that process does not tie rewards to shareholder financial objectives, employ the proper mix of
compensation elements, result in meaningful dollars, embrace performance that employees can
impact and are effectively communicated and reinforced, then the results it produces will likely fall
short (Vision Link Advisory Group, 2013). A strategic plan for employee compensation

Over a period of time, the Hmong people have immigrated from country to country due to
oppression from governments and due to their involvement in wars. For this reason, Hmong people
are now found living scattered across the globe (Tatman 2004). With no country to call home, they
fled to the hillsides and mountain tops of nearby neighboring countries. As a result, the Hmong
peoplehad to reestablish their communities and families wherever the settled. Although the Hmong

Social Institution Vs Organized Crime Essay
A social institution is defined as a group of individuals that live in a type of organized
arrangement for the main purpose of obtaining a certain goal. The definition of organized crime is
a group of individuals that get involved in illegal acts for the main purpose of making a profit.
Many of these organized crimegroups are centralized and operated on a local, national, and
international level, and can be part of several nations (Shanty, 2007).
How the Social Institution and Organized Crime are the Similar Organized crime and a social
institution are similar due to the individuals involved in the criminal activities work in unison to
gather as much benefit to the group as possible. Take some terrorist groups for example. Many of
them have operated for decades and across nations under a singular leader, for a unified cause

The legitimate business often functions as a cover that masks the illegal activities the group
performs. Most social organizations are structured in a certain way in which a central leader who
makes the decisions as well as gives the orders to be carried out by their followers (Shanty, 2007).
Social institutions can be found in every society, and place their focus on the relations, duties, and
responsibilities of every member. This is where social institutions and organized crime are most
easily recognized. They both share a similarity in that they each have leaders, relations, followers or
members, and of course, obligations to someone. One finds its funding through contributions or
endowments left by well to do followers and supporters, while the latter receives money through
crimes such as kidnapping, hijacking, extortion, human and drug trafficking, murder, among others

What images are associated with the words hero ? A muscular Hercules saving the world from

characteristics that make someone heroic? A dictionary definition of a hero is a man of
distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities ; however, this

circumstances. Is there one that is correct? Do all heroes share any common characteristics?

Throughout the journey, Bilbo is able to defeat a few enemies, such as when he buys time
during the troll incident, and helps the dwarves escape from the spiders; however, Diogo
Gonçalves, points out that even when he starts becoming useful for the group... he is humble;
Bilbo doesn t mock on those he defeats, as the classic hero tended to do (44), rather the mockery
is used to defeat the enemies. A clear example is the incident with the spiders, where he angers
them by calling them offensive names in order to give the dwarves a chance to escape. Despite
all these differences, Bilbo is still accepted as a hero in today s society and does share some
traits with the classic hero. One of the reasons I believe he is accepted in today s society is
because he is easy to relate to, demonstrating pleasure in his domestic lifestyle, but at the same
time, possessing a natural curiosity and a desire to enjoy the occasional adventure outside his
comfort zone. He also has the admirable quality of loyalty and persistence. Even when the
dwarves wanted to know why he had ever been brought at all, why he could not stick to his
friends and come along with them, and why the wizard had not chosen someone with more sense,
and that He has been more trouble than use so far, said one (Tolkien 44), Bilbo still stuck by their
side and helped them to the best of his abilities. Just like the Cinderella hero, Bilbo was probably

Kite Persuasive Speech
Aesop was a slave and storyteller who lived in ancient Greece. Through their morals, his fables
taught many important lessons that are still used in society today. One such fable was that of the
Hawk, the Kite, and the Pigeons . One day, a cote of pigeons became frightened after seeing a kite
flying nearby. Unable to defend themselves, the pigeons called upon the Hawk to defend them.
After the Hawk obliged, he was admitted into the cote. The pigeons discovered that in one day, the
Hawk slaughtered more pigeons and wrought more destruction than the Kite could in a year. The
moral of this fable is it is better to avoid a remedy that is worse than the disease. When discussing

To make vaccines mandatory would also necessitate some form of financial aid for people below
the poverty line that cannot afford them. To do so would increase economic instability within the
United States due to the financial costs outweighing the financial benefits. Many supporters of
mandatory vaccines would argue that the federal government would save money over the long run
by reducing the amount of financial aid granted to citizens who are already sick and do not have
health insurance. In response to this, the following contention may be established: many diseases
that American citizens receive vaccinations for have already been declared eradicated within the
United States. In a TED Talk presented in November of 2014, Dr. Romina Libster, a medical
researcher who specializes in pathology, spoke on the necessity of vaccines in all people in order to
establish and maintain global herd immunity. While Doctor Libster makes many excellent points on
the effects that vaccinating every person in the world would entail, she also overlooks the fact that
the United States is an exception to her model of herd immunity. The argument of mandatory
vaccines aiding in the retention of herd immunity is nullified due to the fact that the United States
has already reached and maintained herd immunity from

Innovation In Transport Industry Essay
Innovation in Transport Industry
Introduction
After Singapore independence, Singapore s bus service was provided by numerous small operators
and was highly split with both service and safety standards were low. The aggressive competition by
the private bus companies led to poor service, lack of incorporation and network economies
eventually resulting in the immediate bankruptcy of many of these companies. The government
moved in a team of civil servants, take over the fragmented companies and put together a tight
outfit, making reasonable profits. The new entity, SBS Transit, was eventually nationalized.

Since 1987, managing the three way tensions of ensuring profitability and acceptable quality had
been the job of the Public Transport Council (PTC), which regulates transport fares for both buses

In 1996, Singapore Government revealed one of its most aspiring and extensive plans for the
Singapore s land transport system. It contained details step the authorities to follow to achieve its
vision of a world class transport system for the city in the next 10 to 15 years time. The change to
existing schemes was proposed like revision of taxi fares. New schemes were introduced as well
such as Electronic Road Pricing (ERP), which eventually become omnipresent in Singapore. But
among all these implementation, the heart of the blueprint was that 75 Percent of all day to day
trips in Singapore would be made by public transport. In order to achieve this goal, improvements to
public transport were critical. The White Paper said that the government would enhance public
transport, encouraging more Singaporeans to switch from cars to train and bus, and easing traffic

registers just can t do. Actually, many companies have discovered that implementing a spot of sales
system practically reduces the necessity for an expensive hand count.
10. The maintenance and repair costs tend to be lower on a spot of deal device when compared
to a cash register. The amount of companies that repair cash registers is dwindling, and which
means that repair costs can be somewhat high. There are numerous suppliers who repair point of

Double Indemnity Adaptation Essay
Siddhanth Jung
ENG251G2
Dr. V. Hromulak
10 December 2015
The Adaption of Double Indemnity Although adaptions are not a new form of entertainment, recent
trends show that the many books that are forced to change to film tend to provoke criticism and
debate. This type of attitude was definitely prevccalent in the film Double Indemnity directed by
Billy Wilder. This was because it was adapted from the novella by James Cain which held the
same title. Substantial differences from the novella made the film a richer and better depicted
story for the audience. It is agreeable that the nature of the adaption was made so that it would
be easily understood by the audiences it was going to be viewed by. The novella Double
Indemnity was first published in 1934 and was James Cain s second novel. The entire novella is
told in first person point of view, by the criminal Walter Huff in the... Show more content on

The film was similar to the movie in the point of view aspect because both were told by first
person criminal, Walter Neff. The film keeps the confessional criminal aspect of narration, but
changes the order of events by revealing that Walter is a murderer from the beginning. This
makes the film adaption depict a different view of the story from the very beginning rather than
letting it unfold like in the novella. This serves to angle audiences in a way that Wilder wanted as
well as emphasizing the despair at the center of the story. The characters in the film are basically
unfolding their predetermined destiny which is different from the novella. Walter Huff and Phyllis
Nirdlinger, the main characters of the book, become Walter Neff and Phyllis Dietrichson in the
film. In the film, they do devise a scheme to murder Phyllis s husband and cash out on the rewards
of his life insurance policy. The actual dollar amount varies, but there are far more important
differences than that.

Increasing Government Budgeting In Canada
The federal budget of Canada is constantly evolving to accommodate the ever changing issues of
society. Building a budget for an individual can be tricky, but when building a budget for an entire
country it can be detrimental to some citizens. Making cuts in one area can make huge impacts
whether positively or negatively to a group of people. I think increasing governmentspending in the
child care program would help almost all citizens of the country in one way or another. Increasing
the child taxbenefit will assist families to move out of poverty and allow for children to grow up in
nourishing environments. Eliminating the fossil fuel subsidies will help the country move towards
a greener future as well as adding revenue to the budget. Lastly, by increasing the corporation tax,...

Wealth distribution from more profitable corporations will make a positive impact on struggling
families and citizens of the country which will in turn assist the economy.
I proposed for the government to add the $10 a day childcare to the expenditures. Having
affordable child care is an immeasurable asset to the entire country. More parents will be able to
return to their careers which they have been trained to do; therefore, more skilled workers will
be in the workforce. An increase in household income will likely increase the spending in the
economy due to families having more financial freedom. Stress levels of families should decrease
with more financial flexibility which should increase happiness among citizens. Also, it is
possible for a decrease in the use of Employment Insurance for stress/medical leaves. Extra funding
towards childcare facilities will increase the demand for more facilities therefore, creating jobs and
new facilities to open. Having more

  • 2. Why I Should Pay Attention Who I Will Be Walk down any road in Cologne, Germany and you ll see the scars that war has left, streaked across the cobblestone. Take a glance in any house and you ll find a family devastated by the war that promised salvation to it s citizens. This is how we live, in the military heart and pride of Nazi Germany, a place that was intended to revolutionize the future of our country. My father always tells me that in this revolutionary era, every man must stand and fight for something. I want to stand for something, I really do. I want to be part of the purification and salvation of the world. It seems like I ve been designed by my society to stand for this cause and I ve been bred to be willing to die for it. It suddenly strikes me as funny that the school has so little government funding that it s students literally starve in the classroom but there s an abundance of our fГјhrer s beloved book to go around. Smirking at my depressing inside joke while I exit the school house is probably a mistake because I ve caught the attention of this horrible kid, Henry, who sits two rows in front of me in class. The thing about Henry is that he is a really advanced student and the teachers are always giving him praise for his devotion to the Nazi Party. Despite that, he s a horrible kid with a horrible attitude. What s funny, Otto? Henry says, sauntering towards me like he enjoys the fact that nothing good can come from this confrontation. It s none of your business. Let s not start this now, okay, I say, glancing at the crowd of skinny German teenagers who are already gathering to watch Henry pick on me. Last time he confronted me like this, the teachers had to pull us apart, to keep us from breaking eachother s noses. I m not starting anything, Henry sneers. Just some friendly conversation. He s never needed a reason to start a fight. Besides, he s always had it out for me because of my eyes. Book Review of The Things they Carried Essay examples Tim O Brien s, The Things they Carried is a riveting tale of struggle and sacrifice, self indulgence and self pity, and the intrapersonal battles that reeked havoc on even the most battle tested soldiers. O Brien is able to express these ideas through eloquent writing and descriptive language that makes the reader feel as if he were there. The struggle to avoid cowardice is a prevailing idea in all of O Brien s stories. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;In On the Rainy River , O Brien writes of intrapersonal struggle in its most profound form. By making the decision to go to the war, some would place the distinction of bravery on Cross. He, however, felt like a coward. For he had given in to the society around him and their pressures. Instead of following his heart and staying true to his morals, Cross took the easy way out. By fighting in the war, he avoided the criticism and ridicule which marred draft dodgers and the lifetime of embarrassment that was sure to follow. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; The narrator is torn between two worlds. In his heart and mind, he knows that the war is wrong and unjust. In his family, town, and nation, however, he was expected to fight. He must cross a number of hurdles on his way to a life altering decision. It seems the man has gotten beyond the idea of self embarrassment. The problem for Cross, it seems, is the fact that his decision affects everyone around him. Like any young man in those times, he was scared. Not scared of death, but scared of life after the war. He knows that is he does not go to the war, his mother, his father, and all his friends will share the burden of his embarrassment. That is why he must go to the war. Density Lab Report Essay From this lab, we can learn how using the volume and mass of an object can be used to the calculate density, and how the density can help you to identify what substance the object is made of. We began the lab by obtaining object C and recorded the physical properties of the substance. Next, the object was placed onto a scale to determine the massin grams (56.56g). We used a ruler to measure the radius of the base (.6cm) and the height (5cm) of the cylinder shaped substance. We plugged these measurements into the volumeformula for a cylinder (V =ПЂr2 h) in order to determine the volume of the object (5.652cm3). We plugged the mass and volume into the density formula (D=m/v) and determined the density of object C (10.0 g/cm3). • 6. Who Is Bilbo A Hero Where would we be without heroes in fiction? What would we have left? No Luke Skywalker, Harry Potter, Superman, Sir Lancelot, or Captain Ahab. Name a work of fiction that does not revolve around or at least include a hero of some caliber. Ask yourself what stories could we still enjoy without the greatest characters of literary history. We as people have shown time and time again that nothing can beat our love for heroes, they have a special place in our hearts rivaled only by their associated villains. Without them most stories just wouldn t be the same. The Hobbitis a perfect example of the importance of heroism in literary fiction. Bilbo Baggins is by no means a typical hero. Heroes are usually portrayed as being tall and handsome. Bilbo is a halfling, therefore he is short and portly with hairy feet. Heroes are warriors and their courage is apparent. Bilbo lives in a cozy hole in the ground spending his time blowing smoke rings and eating more than three meals a day. Heroes are also normally viewed as fearless and good at fighting, while Bilbo has never used a weapon before the events of The Hobbit, and is afraid of the very idea of leaving his home of Hobbiton. When you compare Bilbo to someone like Superman the differences are obvious. They are two very different characters, and yet they are both heroes. Bilbo is undeniably very unusual when compared to the stereotypical archetype of a hero that I described earlier. However, those qualifiers that I listed, while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In summary, there is a precedence for the investigation of masculinity and femininity beyond the Big Five. Second, a consideration of gender dimensions of brand personality arises from consumers need to express themselves along multiple dimensions (Aaker 1997). The marketing literature suggests that the need to express masculinity and femininity through brand choice (e.g., Dolich 1969) is based on the notion that gender is part of consumers self concept (Freimuth and Hornstein 1982). • 12. Homelessness Under The Mckinney Vento Homelessness... Homelessness is one of the oldest problems that exist, fast forward almost 40 years since it s been recognized as one and still there has been no avail to finding a real solution. The definition of homelessness under the McKinney Vento Homelessness Assistance Act is defined as an individual: who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence; and a person who has a nighttime residence that is supervised publicly or privately operated shelter, and c) an institution that provides a temporary residence for individuals intended to be institutionalized, or a private or public place not designed for, a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings. Homelessness is basically another form of poverty except more extreme, yet society treats it as if it was on another spectrum of problems. Some in society stigmatize this population by saying things like: they re homeless because they are drug addicts, alcoholics, they don t want to work and just live off the government for free. What many forget to think about are the factors that have these people on the street, or the fact that they are not only experiencing personal hardship by being without a permanent residence but emotional ones as well. Add the fact they are sometimes discriminated against and excluded by society, and you will realize you are looking at one of the most vulnerable populations. Before 1853, Japan remained in isolation from the other Western powers, but the arrival of Commodore Matthew C. Perry influenced Japan to expand their trade. With the American fleet of warships led by Perry, it intimidated Japan to open their foreign interests in hope of arising trading opportunities from both sides. In a way, the U.S. military superiority spurred the Japanese to agree to the Treaty of Kanagawa. This treaty allowed the return of American sailors, allowed U.S. residence, and opened two ports in Japan. This indicated that Perry s visit marked a turning point in Japan s history; in addition, Japan continued to negotiate treaties with U.S. and other countries for opening their ports for trade and residence. 2. How was Japan s experience after 1854 similar to China? Japan s experiences after 1854 were very similar to those of China s. For instance, China and Japan served as important foreign interests to the Western powers. The reason why the Western powers were so interested in those two countries was due to the increasing rivalry and economic interests. I d like to focus on King Lear s relationship with his daughters as it evolves throughout the play as well as the play King Lear s themes regarding politics and politicking. The passage I think best represents the conclusion of these themes is King Lears conversation with Cordelia in Act 5, scene 3 where they have been taken prisoner by the English. My conclusion from reading this passage closely is that in Shakespeare s King Lear, King Lear s speech to Cordelia regarding their impending imprisonment builds Shakespeare s idea of caged potential and judgement for those who politic. The first lines of this speech, No, no, no, no! Come, let s away to prison: We two alone will sing like birds i the cage: (5.3.8 9) in response to Cordelia s question of whether they should see Goneril and Regan, give us an idea of King Lear s mental state at this time in the play. King Lear appears to be lucid and to have largely regained his sanity from the earlier scenes of the play once he has reunited with Cordelia. He insists strongly, with four noes, that they should go immediately to prison. The metaphor of Lear and Cordelia as birds in a cage implies that he and Cordelia will have lost their freedom, as a bird in a cage loses its ability to fly. Yet, by saying that they shall sing in this cage, Lear says that they will be happy while they have lost flight and freedom, they will have one another. King Lear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An Investigation into Response to Disaster Using Qualitative Methods Abstract This study investigated the accounts of individuals involved in the London underground bombings in 2005. Throughout this investigation, thematic analysis was conducted on six eyewitness accounts, highlighting their feelings and actions, which came about as a result of the incident. From these accounts I obtained 4 key themes, which were consistent components of the six accounts. Evidently, I found that the two most common themes were helping behaviour and the panic myth. This was rather unexpected, as initially, I expected to find irrational and helpless behaviour, due to the panic and stress of being trapped in a bombed underground. To conclude, the investigation illuminated the concept of helping others before helping ones self. Thus, contradicting the concept of survival of the fittest, as in this case the fittest were those who took it upon themselves to assist other passengers in need. Although research generally confirms that pay for performance plans can influence greater outcomes, it is unclear how effective different pay plans are relative to each other (Park, 2012). Like most things in business, compensation is something that requires evaluation, study, assessment, strategy, modeling and integration. Achieving a pay for performance culture does not happen without paying attention to the behaviors, activities, rewards and motivations that have to be linked and reinforced through a well engineered and successfully executed process. Actually if that process does not tie rewards to shareholder financial objectives, employ the proper mix of compensation elements, result in meaningful dollars, embrace performance that employees can impact and are effectively communicated and reinforced, then the results it produces will likely fall short (Vision Link Advisory Group, 2013). Words like bravery, strength, pride, and self sacrifice are commonly connected with a classic hero. But are those the only characteristics that make someone heroic? A dictionary definition of a hero is a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities ; however, this is a very elastic definition and there are many other types and definitions of heroes depending on circumstances. Is there one that is correct? Do all heroes share any common characteristics? According to Orin E. Klapp, a hero is a person, real or imaginary, who evokes the... Throughout the journey, Bilbo is able to defeat a few enemies, such as when he buys time during the troll incident, and helps the dwarves escape from the spiders; however, Diogo Gonçalves, points out that even when he starts becoming useful for the group... he is humble; Bilbo doesn t mock on those he defeats, as the classic hero tended to do (44), rather the mockery is used to defeat the enemies. A clear example is the incident with the spiders, where he angers them by calling them offensive names in order to give the dwarves a chance to escape. Despite all these differences, Bilbo is still accepted as a hero in today s society and does share some traits with the classic hero. One of the reasons I believe he is accepted in today s society is because he is easy to relate to, demonstrating pleasure in his domestic lifestyle, but at the same time, possessing a natural curiosity and a desire to enjoy the occasional adventure outside his comfort zone. He also has the admirable quality of loyalty and persistence. Even when the dwarves wanted to know why he had ever been brought at all, why he could not stick to his friends and come along with them, and why the wizard had not chosen someone with more sense, and that He has been more trouble than use so far, said one (Tolkien 44), Bilbo still stuck by their side and helped them to the best of his abilities. Unable to defend themselves, the pigeons called upon the Hawk to defend them. After the Hawk obliged, he was admitted into the cote. The pigeons discovered that in one day, the Hawk slaughtered more pigeons and wrought more destruction than the Kite could in a year. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To make vaccines mandatory would also necessitate some form of financial aid for people below the poverty line that cannot afford them. To do so would increase economic instability within the United States due to the financial costs outweighing the financial benefits. Many supporters of mandatory vaccines would argue that the federal government would save money over the long run by reducing the amount of financial aid granted to citizens who are already sick and do not have health insurance. In response to this, the following contention may be established: many diseases that American citizens receive vaccinations for have already been declared eradicated within the United States. In a TED Talk presented in November of 2014, Dr. Romina Libster, a medical researcher who specializes in pathology, spoke on the necessity of vaccines in all people in order to establish and maintain global herd immunity. While Doctor Libster makes many excellent points on the effects that vaccinating every person in the world would entail, she also overlooks the fact that the United States is an exception to her model of herd immunity. The argument of mandatory vaccines aiding in the retention of herd immunity is nullified due to the fact that the United States has already reached and maintained herd immunity from ... Hromulak 10 December 2015 The Adaption of Double Indemnity Although adaptions are not a new form of entertainment, recent trends show that the many books that are forced to change to film tend to provoke criticism and debate. This type of attitude was definitely prevccalent in the film Double Indemnity directed by Billy Wilder. This was because it was adapted from the novella by James Cain which held the same title. Substantial differences from the novella made the film a richer and better depicted story for the audience. It is agreeable that the nature of the adaption was made so that it would be easily understood by the audiences it was going to be viewed by. This serves to angle audiences in a way that Wilder wanted as well as emphasizing the despair at the center of the story.
