Economic Restructuring And Revitalization Of Detroit...
Abstract
This paper explores the economic restructuring and revitalization of Detroit Michigan post World
War II until today. The purpose of this research paper is to show the history of Detroit s auto and
manufacturing industry, in what ways it has changed in recent years, and how it has helped define
the economy of Detroit and damaged it. This paper suggests that the deindustrialization of plants
and industries and the depopulation of whites to the Suburbs have triggered the economic downfall
of the Motor City. Some social issues such as race discrimination and segregation that might have
led to the riots of 1943, and 1967, and the migration of African Americans to Northern States in
search of employments will be discussed as well. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
General Motors, the country s leader in defense contracts, is firmly fixed in the public mind with
the manufacture of automobiles... 35 percent of its total business is non automotive. This
diversification... gives General Motors an enormous advantage... But little of this helps Michigan
now, since G.M. no longer concentrates its military work in this area (Widick, 1959, Pg. 1).
Widick (1959) suggests that a large percentage of the manufacturing was military based, however
after World War II, General Motors expanded its military production to other cities and countries
losing the main focus on Detroit. The manufacturing of war weapons, vehicles, and airplanes
generated the economic spur in Detroit and the United States during World War II because the
United States produced weapons and military technology to allied countries without fully involving
manpower in the war. The massive production of military products ended after the war and the
production of weapons had decreased.

Deplorable conditions in the islands sugar plantations caused many slave rebellions in this period
of Cuba history. In 1868, Cuban landowners also began to resist the status quo, launching the first
Cuban War of Independence. Many great Cuban national heroes rose to prominence during this
period of Cuba history: Carlos Manuel de Cespedes, Maximo Gomez, Antonio Maceo, and Jose
Marti. Memorials to these figures from history on Cuba are commonplace.
The Ten Years War against Spain ended in 1878 with the Pact of Zanjon, which granted concessions
to the Cuban rebels. Nevertheless, Marti and other revolutionaries continued their resistance to the
Spanish authorities, some of them from exile in the United States.
In April 1895, Maceo, Marti, and Gomez landed in Cuba to begin the second War of Independence.
In 1898, with the rebels largely in control of the island, the United States used the explosion of the
USS Maine in the Havana harbor to begin hostilities against Spain, starting the Spanish American
War.
In December 1898, Spain ceded control of the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Cuba to the United
States. The next sixty years of history on Cuba featured a strong U.S. presence. The U.S. Navy
established the base at Guantanamo Bay, American tourists flocked to the casinos, hotels, and
brothels of Havana, and U.S. interference in internal Cuban politics was the norm.
In the 1950s, Cuba was ruled by an unpopular military dictatorship led by Fulgencio

Laura Vs Amanda
Imagine a girl who s determined to accomplish anything she sets her mind to. Step in her shoes,
her mother always setting expectations too high, society looking at her because she s a little
different. This girl is Laura Wingfield, she is an extremely strong and self disciplined character.
In The Glass Menagerie Laura was considered a very strong, independent and unique character.
During this play Laura overcame mental, emotional and physical obstacles, these proved just
how strong and independent she really is. Laura was a stronger character than her mother,
Amanda. Laura is a stronger character than Amanda because she is more independent. One way
Laura is more independent than Amanda is because she acts like she doesn t need a man while
Amanda acts as if Laura needs to get married as soon as possible. Amanda says of course some

Laura overcomes physical obstacles by walking around town despite her disability. Laura says
in a cheerful manner I went to the art museum and the bird houses at the zoo. I visited the
penguins every day! (Williams 33). Laura gets out and walks around even though she has a
disfigured leg. It makes her feel happy and independent when Laura does this. This is important
because it shows that Laura is strong, independent and overcame what made her different or
what some would call a freak . Laura is the strongest character in The Glass Menagerie because
she s strong and doesn t let anything get in her way, including her mother. Ways Laura is strong
and independent is when she acts like she doesn t need to be married to be happy because she can
make herself happy, she doesn t let her mother stand in her way and she conquers the fact that she
has a disability. Laura proved that anyone can conquer anything as long as they put their mind to

Management
INTRODUCTION
Putting in the simplest terms materials management is about moving the materials within an
organization. What do materials mean? Materials can basically be defined as those objects or
things that are to be moved in order to produce goods. Material is one of the 5M s that a manager

the form of raw materials, paperwork, messages or information etc. So materials can be both
tangible and intangible. You see the newspaper boy delivering the newspaper to your doorstep

John Steinbeck John Steinbeck, the author of 26 novels, was one of the most prolific and popular
American writers of the twentieth century. Steinbeck was the first and only western American
novelist to both win the Nobel Prize and top the bestseller list. The peak of his career came with
the publication of his masterpiece, The Grapes of Wrath (1939). The novel won the Pulitzer
Prize and the National Book Award and also generated controversy over its portrayal of
California s sometimes merciless agricultural world, as well as its so called vulgar language and
socialist bias. A novel that encouraged the ideas of realism and called for social protest, The

showed signs of Realism, a prominent literary movement of the late 19th century. This movement
is closely tied to Charles Darwin, author of The Origin of Species, and backer of the theory of
evolution. This theory caused Steinbeck as well as other realist, to disregard the highly symbolic,

Cicero And Obama Similarities
Marcus Tullius Cicero was a powerful politician in Ancient Rome. He was revered and respected
by many, and he also had a unique quality to him: he was a novus homo , a man who was new to
the Roman political scene and did not have any ancestors that took part in it. He is still renowned
today as one of the most prominent orators of Ancient Rome, not unlike many US Presidents of our
modern world. Despite his status as a novus homo, however, his speeches are more similar to
those of John F. Kennedy, a man from a long line of politicians, than with those of politicians such
as Barack Obama, who never was involved with his father s political work in Kenya. Textual
evidence shows that Ciceros speeches and strategies align much more closely with... Show more

Though Cicero put more trust in his colleagues while Obama extended that trust to his citizens,
both men acknowledge that their achievements were not doable without help from others. This
is seen in Cicero s speech when he thanks and credits Lucius Flaccus and Gaius Pomptinus, who
were the praetors of the republic who helped expose Catiline and his allies. Cicero speaks highly
of them: Illi autem, qui omnia de re publica praeclara atque egregia sentirent, sine recusatione ac
sine ulla mora negotium susceperunt...[.] He praises them, stating that they immediately rushed to
help him expose the conspirators. Obama made many similar statements as president, but one
rises above the others: his speech when awarding his Vice President, Joe Biden, the medal of
freedom. In it, he says about Biden that he ...Just wanted to get some folks together to pay

to list his accomplishments and how he helped Obama during his presidency. Though Cicero and

Importance Of Indian Cinema
Cinema is a great source of promoting culture, values and norms of the society, it shows how
exactly the people of that specific region are and how they live, think and do their activities.
Indian movies are very much popular in our country and movies are very much seen in Pakistan.
Bollywood is a largest showbiz industry in the world and one of the main reasons of great
influence of Indian cinema in our society and culture is because of downfall of Pakistani showbiz
industry. Pakistani cinema is going down and working poorly.
Indian cinema is promoting its culture through its movies and dramas, which are totally based on
Hindu folklore. they are influencing our culture and values by showing us their dramas and
movies which are totally based on their false believes and they are catching attention of our people
by showing so much fantasy , colors and glitters in their movies and dramas. In this way they are
spoiling our people s thoughts and also moving them far away to watch their own country s cinema.
It is believed that if you want to rule on a nation, you should capture their minds and through
propaganda cultivate your own culture in their lives by showing them your culture with strong
believes.
No doubt, it is the fault of our directors and producers who are not making good movies, there are
no solid concepts seen in new movies of Pakistan. Our youth is educated and know more about the
issues. They want to see good movies based on good scripts and well working cast.

The Virtue Of Silence Essay
THE VIRTUE OF SILENCE
Of all the virtues that most men and women disregard, it is silence. People go about in their
everyday lives not even noticing the beauty of one s quot;inner silence. quot; Try an experiment:
Close your eyes. Tune out the sounds from everything that s surrounding you, and focus on what
is going on inside you. Take a deep breath and just listen. How many inner voices did you hear?
Most people do not even realize the amount of noise that is carried around in the human body. As
you can see, even in the remarkably noisy age we live in, the real noise is on the inside. But even
these noises can dissappear if one wishes. All one needs to do is study one of many religions, such
as Buddhism, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One has to be able to drown out all sounds so that there is no sound to be heard. It s as though it
doesn t exist.
The Christian and Jewish methods, however, differ greatly. These two separate religions believe
that to go about reaching a state of perfect silence and meditation, one must pray to God. Both of
these religions teach that if a person wanted to drown out the rest of the world, including one s own
self, that person must pray. A meditative prayer where people fall into a trance, allowing only
thought to occur. No sound can penetrate their thoughts. Absolute, utter silence.
Christianity, and mainly Monasticism, believe that silence keeps the heart and soul pure. By not
speaking, one may not taint their lips with quot;evil quot;. Hence, in monasteries, monks take on
vows of silence. They believe that with the help of God they can overcome the urge to speak
evil against anyone else, thus keeping there souls pure. This, however, is much harder than it
seems. Jews and Buddhists do not always need to keep silent. Jews meditate and pray on a
weekly basis. Buddhists, too, don t feel as though they need to take on a full time vow like the
monasteries demand. It is detrimental to a monastic lifestyle that a vow of silence be kept. Its
importance is to help a monk concentrate on his prayers and his love of God. People who disregard
this important rule of monasticism are not tolerated because

Economic policies are there to ensure that the economy will remain stable in the future and also
ensure that everything is being run fair and everyone is getting equal opportunity. Mixed economies
can enact policies that benefit both the consumer and business. In a mixed economy the
government and market work together to determine the best policies for future long term stability
and growth. During a recession in a mixed economy the government will put more money and
resources into the public sector, such as repairing roads, building schools and hospitals and create
more jobs. The government will also lower taxes so consumers have more money to spend. (http:/

Tecumseh Thesis
A brave and fearless man has finally fallen. The remarkable man was known as Tecumseh, son of
the Chief Pucksinwah. During the Battle of Thames, a stray bullet found its mark, embedding into
his hip. He was fighting for justice, against the oppression of Native Americans. It was his calling
in life to defend his homeland, land that The Great Spirit gave to his Red children. He made it his
duty to protect his people from the Americans ill intentions. He devoted his time toward this goal,
and even when he drew his last breath, his focus never wavered.
At the tender age of six, Tecumseh grieved the loss of his father. His father was a seasoned warrior,
a leader, a man to look up to. He died fighting, a hero s death, during the Battle of Point Pleasant.

At first, Tecumseh rejected British help, but when he realized that it was needed, he looked to them
for guns and other necessities to combat the invaders. He fought in many battles before he met his
demise, including the Battles of Brownstown, Fallen Timbers, Fort Stephenson, and Frenchtown.
Likewise, he participated in the Sieges of Detroit and Fort Meigs. During Tecumseh s War, he
fought for his homeland, which later carried over into the War of 1812. His mutual nemesis was
William Henry Harrison, who, when he was gone, attacked and burned Prophetstown.
In his final battle, Tecumseh fought alongside the Creeks. It was during this battle that a bullet hit
him, wounding him severely. He died soon after, at the age of 45. It is not certain who the bullet
belonged to, but many claim to have extinguished Tecumseh s light. Without Tecumseh, his people
no longer offered resistance to the American encroachment. Tecumseh was survived by his two
sons, Naythawaynah and Mahyawwekawpaese and by his siblings. While the mighty warrior no

California Government Structure Essay
Structure of California s Government
Headed by the governor of the state, the state govt. of CA replicates the Federal govt. It has three
branches that perform their assigned tasks and keep within the limits set by the constitution. These
branches are:
Legislature
Executive
Judiciary
While this division has been created to give structure to the government and ensure its smooth and
effective functioning, there is, more importantly, the need to keep the power of the branches in
check and to make them accountable to each other. There is a system of checks and balances that
comes into play with this segregation of duties and separation of power. This system s inception has
been attributed to Montesquieu. (Wikipedia.org)

/ trends in CA 2000 to 2007
Governor s Budget Power: 3
Governor s Veto Power: 5
Governor s Institutional Power: 3.2 (3.4 in 2000)
The Governor Rating in the year 2000 placed CA s governor at an overall rating of 3.4 and a rank
of 29 among the nation.
What is interesting to note is the rating given to Power of the Legislature to Change Governor s
Budget which was 1 on a 1 5 scale in a study conducted by Dr.Thad Beyle. This shows the CA
governor as wielding a certain amount of influence in the legislature s passing of his proposed
budget, Of course, the constitution mandates that the budget be balanced and, if not, then the
previous year s budget remain effective. This already puts limitations and expectations in the budget
s formulation.
Executive Order
Another form of legislation is an executive order. Executive orders as issued by state governors are
not laws, but do have the same binding nature.

Analysis Of Two Views Of Nature By Vandana Shiva
Today s generation is more concentrated on technological advancements and is blind to what the
world has to offer. They are focused on the wrong aspects of life and need to further their attention
on preserving the environment to become more sustainable. In Vandana Shiva s essay Two Views

At the end process of combustion; coal is the primary source of energy it is converted into ash
as a waste material which is known as clinker . This clinker is removed by a rotating equipment
name as ash bowl which base is kept upon the Guide roller and rotate clockwise by the
application of hydraulic pressure .guide roller performed very poor therefore this process is
many problems likes as formation of large size of clinker which require excess hydraulic
pressure , guide roller is unable to scatter the hydraulic pressure equally in all the direction on ash
bowl to crush the clinker ,more hydraulic pressure is required for the movement of ash bowl ,
more time is require to replaced of guide roller for its maintenance .In order to eliminate above
mention problems ,guide roller has been replaced by thrust ball bearing which improved

Myths Of The Mound Builders
Myths of the Mound Builders The first time I heard about the Mound Builders, which was in this
class, these people seemed like a very primitive group. What was so exciting about having the skill
of piling up a bunch of dirt. Then I was able to see some of these mounds and the scale was nothing
I had imagined. These mounds were huge and also contained distinct structural shapes. Tombs,
houses, and religious structures were constructed in or on top of the mounds. What made the
edifices even more amazing was the time period they were built. Constructed all the way back to
3000 B.C., the mounds rivaled the most advanced engineering techniques in the world. An

They were able to obtain huge assembly of artifacts and precise surveys that are still used to this
day. Another major contributor to the understanding of the Mound Builders was Cyrus Thomas.
He was an entomologist and botanist that was made the head of the Division of Mound
Exploration. Thomas gathered his assistants and set out into the Mississippi Valley to study the
earthworks. During this time the mounds were being destroyed by looters and fought to keep
the mounds in good condition. Over seven years Thomas was able to survey more than two
thousand mounds and collect tens of thousands of artifacts. He then wrote an a work called the
Report on the Mound Explorations of the Bureau of Ethnology. In this report Cyrus was able to
explain the diversity and integrity of the Mound Builder culture. The Native Americans were
now able to be viewed as people who had a rich past, not one of barbarism as thought before.
These were people that deserved respect and gratitude for providing such interesting achievements
for mankind. As one can see, the earthworks of the Ohio and Mississippi valley are critical in the
understanding the past. They provide great clues about the migration of the Ancient people of this
land. It is still not understood how the Western World was settled and under great debate. Any clues
that are available should be used and the mounds are a great source. Native

Theme Of Honesty In The Crucible
An unknown speaker once said, A real man will be honest no matter how painful the truth is. A
coward hides behind his lies and deceit. This quote relates to characters in The Crucible, by
Arthur Miller, such as John Proctor, Rebecca Nurse, and Giles Corey. Each person took action
and stood up for what was right. Faced with tough decisions, many characters throughout the play
are severely tested by others in their surroundings because of the ways they lie, the ways they
make false accusations, and the ways that they ultimately die for a cause. At the beginning of the
play, Abigail Williams lies to avoid trouble. She tries to protect her life over the life of others
instead of doing the right thing by being honest about what happened in the woods. She lies
multiple times in the play accusing others of witchcraft, although it was false. When the courts put
Abigail to the test to see if she tells the truth, she fails and drags most of the town down with her.
Unlike Abigail, Elizabeth has always been known for her honesty. Her husband John says that
Elizabeth never told a lie. Yet when it matters most, Elizabeth lies to try to save her husband s life.
Ultimately, when Danforth and Hawthorne put her up to the test she fails to tell the truth and kills
John. John, attempting to save himself, confesses to witchcraft. He lied to the courts and told them
that he indeed was practicing the sorcery, when truthfully he was not. John thinks that this is the

Recent advancements however, have made negative pressure ventilation a viable option in non

Elizabeth I s Reforms
The English Reformation of the sixteenth century was one of the most drastic religious reforms in
England. During this time, the Tudor Dynasty swept England from Roman Catholicism into the
arms of Protestantism. However, such a massive change did not come without strife.
The Tudor Dynasty began with King Henry VII. After defeating Richard III and ending the War of
the Roses, Henry united the warring Lancaster and York factions under the Tudor Rose. Henry and
his wife Elizabeth had four children: Arthur, Margaret, Henry, and Mary. After Henry VII s death,
his firstborn son Arthur ascended to the throne and married his betrothed, Catherine of Aragon.
Mere months after the marriage, Arthur died from illness. Henry VIII took his place and married
the widowed Catherine (History.com Staff, Henry VIII )
Catherine bore three sons and three daughters, but only her daughter Mary survived. Henry
became infuriated with his lack of a male heir and began to stray. He feared that God had cursed
Catherine, as the Old Testament forbade marrying a brother s widow. His eye landed upon a young

Some Protestants saw Elizabeth I s reforms as inadequate; they called the Church halfly reformed.
They removed themselves from the Church of England and sought their own spiritual outlets, such

the time Elizabeth s reign drew to a close, English citizens respected and loved their Church,

With a larger scale of production companies are applying better organizational skills to its
resources, such as straightforward chain of command, and by this the range where the marginal

In industries that are capital and research intensive such as the computer industry, efficiency
requires large if not very large scale operation. For such industries, the main source of scale

those huge costs over an increased number of units result in increased efficiency and in the end

The Mind Body Problem, By Thomas Nagel
Consciousness, Thomas Nagel states, is what makes the mind body problem really intractable.
Here he refers particularly to phenomenal consciousness, which Block defines as perceptual
experiences, and Nagel describes as something that it is to be. This experiential element appears to
present a challenge to the physicalist assertion that all mental processes are explicable in terms of
physical brain states, biochemical reactions and the laws of physics. Frank Jackson presents this
argument in his 1982 thesis Epiphenomenal Qualia. Whilst Jackson s argument occupies a seminal

conscious experience, is debateable. Thomas Nagel s What is it like to... Show more content on

He suggests the knowledge she acquires is merely new concepts of the same properties that she
learned about before her release, and not necessarily proof of non physical knowledge. Arguably,
Jackson s aim is too rigid to add anything considerable to knowledge of the nature of consciousness.
All it requires to be discredited is that one of its premises be disproven, which predisposes it to
destruction in a way that Nagel s more circumspect argument does not. Furthermore, how can we
accept an argument as useful whose advocate later completely abandoned his view and reverted to
a physicalist position?
Nagel s argument is harder to refute, owing to its lack of definitive conclusion. Nevertheless, its
effectiveness remains debateable. It is interesting that he embraces the incomprehensibility of

Digital Forensics
M7A1 Essay: Psychological Aspects of Digital Forensics
This paper will briefly identify and explain the psychological aspects of digital forensics. It will
further examine the role of psychological profiling in digital forensic investigations. Lastly, it will
examine the various stresses that digital crime investigations places on the digital forensics
investigator. Digital forensics is almost like observing someone s complete psyche, you see that
person likes and dislike. You are viewing their hates and love; you are finding things they don t
want to share with anyone else in the entire world. Using digital forensics is extremely perplexing
with the obligation of interpreting the digital forensics that are located in an investigation. ... Show

Digital forensic investigators that are exposed to images of child sexual abuse as part of their
work, report they experience mental health problems that can impact both their work and home
lives. (Child Pornography s Crime Fighters Bear Scars of Traumatic Investigations, 2009). It is
hard for any normal person not be negatively affected by viewing these ghastly images. The next
stressor is simple overwork by the Digital forensic investigators. Many states and local
organizations struggling with much reduced budgets, forensic lab around the United States have
been closed, this leaving existing forensic labs overwhelmed with large backlogs of forensic
evidence. Another issue is many cases are being settled with plea bargains. In the United States, up
to ninety five percent of cases resulting in felony convictions never reach a jury trial (Frontline,
2004). I for one can fully relate to this, I have had times in my IT work where even well planned
upgrades have totally failed, causing very low spirits. You just try not to think of all the wasted
hours of work. With digital forensics, it would be much worse. When a case is plea bargained, you
would really feel the enormous numbers of hours expended have been wasted. Lastly, your co
workers and managers may not fully comprehend the nature of your

Education In Brave New World
An Uneducated World
Among other things, British author and philosopher Aldous Huxley introduced the world to the
unsettling power of early learning and development through his novel Brave New World. Rather
than learn from the wisdom of a mother, children are fed state messages through subconscious sleep
learning, enabling mass control. Aside from Huxley s dark depictions, Brave New World reveals
how susceptible to manipulation the developing human mind is. Superimpose these effects onto the
real world. How nations and their educators raise the next year s children, greatly influence, or more
effectively, wholly define Generation Z. Signed by 71 countries, the International Covenant on
Economic, Social and Cultural Rights lists the right to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The knowledge gained from a single book lent him power; the capacity to reveal his innocence,
self, and of course his unique brilliance. Once again, Aldous Huxley teaches a valuable lesson: the
enabling power derived from literacy. Instead of just instructing our students (or more suitably
labeled our future leaders) that reading is good for you, show them. Hand them books, perhaps
then they can unmask their natural curiosity and creativity. This solution is not derived solely on
prediction, but through a funnel of subdivisions from education to literacy to book distribution.
Each layer of complexity further narrows down to simple solution for a fundamental problem: the
ever growing issue of education rights. The right to a proper education proves elusive when of all
times it need be accessible to all, no matter of privilege. Learning through literacy and reading
provides a economic and effective approach to resolving a continuing problem. Ensuring the right to
education is worthy goal to undertake, doing so prepares the world collectively for future trials and
tribulations by crafting the better, sophisticated generations

Reduction In Force Process
Administrators are very important for all companies as they are assigned sensitive and specific
roles that make certain the company operates at its optimum capacity. At the same time,
administrators ensure all employees perform their expected duties within the company. Among all
the roles the administrators are assigned, conducting a Reduction In Force (RIF) in the company is
one of them. Reduction in the workforce in any company should be handled professionally and
amicably whilst ensuring that the company, the administration, and the employees are all in
understanding at that point. The termination of an employee s employment or contract should only
take place when a company can no longer sustain the entire workforce in addition to not meeting its
goals and objectives. As an administrator, there are several ways that the reduction in force process
should be conducted at the same time as observing various laws that protects employees from
sudden termination of their employment.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The RIF process is a complicated process that should not be conducted in a hurry as it increases
the chances of litigation if an employee feels he has been unfairly dismissed by the company (Gray,
Hubbard, Day, n.d.). The initial step in this process is coordinating with the company s counsel and
creating a logical timeline that states how the RIF will be done. The timeline ensures that all
decisions that are made will have been thoroughly deliberated, the creation of proper documentation,
and ensuring all involved parties work together. The timeline also ensures that the employer studies
the timeline accurately to make sure that specific groups of employees will not suffer in this

This pushed him to want out even faster. Grabbing hold of the pillar he began to climb the old

I am Herobrine, I have set you free as I seek a powerful ally to assist me in taking back my world.
The dragon laughed, a demonic and evil sound that made even Herobrine quiver.
And why would I do anything for you?
Herobrine bowed, staying on one knee and lowering his head. I have journeyed very far to find
you, to release you from your prison. Help me to destroy the one known as Steve and the End

For a long moment the dragon was silent, staring down at the tiny adventurer. There was a deep

The Biological Basis Of Human Lactase
Milk is very important to all societies, the different varieties in milk gives the opportunity for
others to have the ability to gain drink milk. But, scientist now want to try and figure out why
some humans can t digest milk while others can. The scientific research that has been done in
order to explain the biological basis of human lactase is archaeological and genetics. Archaeologist
examined pottery shards in order to grasp what the animals where actually consuming indicating
where the proteins came from. Other scientists did field work with both Africans and Europeans
that either had experiences raising a cattle or did not have experiences with cattle in order to show
that human lactase is genetic. In order to show and or to further explain the biological basis of
human lactase I will first discuss who can actually drink milk, the history of both Europeans and
Africans. Next, I will discuss the values of both plant domesticationand animal domestication. I
will then talk about where cattle s get their vitamins from and lastly I will discuss the value of
milk, as well as how it benefited other people.
According to the article Ancient DNA Solves milk mystery written by Erika Check, the people
who can easily consume milk are those that were a part of the African and European culture. The
reason being is because they were one of the first groups of people who started to raise cows and
other animals that could produce milk. This means that Africans and Europeans are the

T-Mobile 1 Commercial Analysis
In the T Mobile 1 commercial it starts out with a middle aged man and Kristen Schaal. The
commercial was inspired off of the movie 50 Shades of Grey or the movie 50 Shades Darker,
which was made after the initial movie, 50 Shades of Grey. The two individuals enter the
playroom where numerous objects are seen hung all over the room. Schaal was being blindfolded
as she walked into the room. As the man starts to unravel the blindfold Schaal gasps in such
astonishment of the room. Later on the man starts stating the specific elements Verizon has to offer.
The more data the mobile user uses, the more punishments they will receive. Schaal was thrilled
acknowledging this information. The man later whips his whip and describes if mobile users are

It is logical for people wanting to save money on their phone bill. If the mobile user goes over
the limited amount then the cost will start to accumulate. Every time you go over your data
limit you get punished. Nobody would want to pay outrageous rate and fees. The gasps,
excitement, and the thrills is what created the pathos. Schaal was astonished by all the facts he
was saying because she was into that type of pain. T Mobile 1 argues that they are a more
reliable company with less punishing fees thus creating ethos. Symbolism is seen in this also.
The red Verizon phone screen seen dangling from the stand represents data being overly used
causing the phone bill to inflate. The whip also acts as a form of symbolism representing the
punishment. Another literary term that was involved during this commercial is parody. In
general the T Mobile 1 commercial imitates the movie 50 Shades of Grey. Irony could also be
included during this commercial because the mobile plan can sometimes cause people to be
indecisive on whether they want to feel the pain or not. In the commercial it said Wireless pain is
fine if you re into that sort of

Assessing the Performance of Compute Unified Device...
The academic paper at hand aimed at assessing the performance of Compute Unified Device
Architecture (CUDA) programming for machining simulation. It has three main dimensions,
introducing the machining simulation algorithm parallelization, discussing the main constraints
related to the use of the CUDA architecture proposing different solutions to the problem of
parallelization with CUDA. Authors have argued that the main purpose of machining simulations in
Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software is to detect collisions between the tool and the
part on the whole part surface of manufactured goods. Such surfaces are employed to provide
sealing or friction functions, optical or aero dynamics properties. This task requires specific
geometrical deviations to be executed within a given manufacturing process. More specifically,
reducing the cycle time of developing a product will rely on how to simulate the evolution of
geometrical deviations of surfaces throughout the manufacturing process.
The literature reveals that there are many methods to perform machining simulations. For instance,
methods based on a partition of the space by lines, by voxels or by planes, methods based on
meshes ... etc. However, simulations of the machined surfaces in CAM software are very limited,
purely geometric and don t include any characteristic of the actual process that may damage the
surface quality during machining. Furthermore, these simulations do not provide the required
accuracy within a

Research Paper On Paul s Thorn
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.
Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon
me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in
distresses for Christ s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. 2 Corinthians 12:9,10 The
word thorn speaks volumes on its own, we can relate immediately to thoughts of sufferings, pain,
trouble, humiliation and physical ailments. Paul s thorn remains vague and cryptic, so that all
of us with a thorn may readily relate and hopefully apply the spiritual lessons in this passage of
scripture, into our own lives. Some say Paul s thorn had to do with his eye condition, possibly
from the light that shown on him when he was traveling to Damascus, I m not so sure (we will go
into that another day), others say Paul s thorn is attributed to the origin of demonic activity
permitted by God, still others believe Paul s thorn was given to him to keep him from becoming
proud over revelations he had received from God.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So what is and how can God s Grace work in our lives to help us live with our own thorns? Our first
thoughts of grace may be poise, finesse, beauty and agility. Still, God s Grace is sufficient, it is
adequate for the purpose and it is enough for us. Grace is God s presence, God s favor and God s
power. It is a force, a heavenly strength given to those of us who will call upon God. This grace
will rest on faithful believers who accept their weaknesses, sicknesses and difficulties for the
Gospels sake. See Philippians

The Dialogue On The Two Great World Systems
Galileo s book The Dialogue on the Two Great World Systems is a 1632 book written by Galileo
in Italian in which he compares the Copernican system to the Ptolemaic system. In this book,
Galileo baldly (some said at the time recklessly) advocated the heliocentric / Copernican world
view, contrasting it to the prevailing geocentric / Ptolomeic model. In order to obtain permission to
publish, Galileo made a promise to religious authorities (including his supporter Pope Urban VIII)
he would present heliocentrismas a hypothetical. The reason Galileo made the promise is because
his views contradict passages of the Bible which refer to the earth as stationary and the sun orbiting.
After the publication of the book, the Roman Inquisition found

The Story Makers
The Story Makers
Family members can be a person s greatest blessing or his worst nightmare. There are the
relatives that can help one accomplish their wildest dreams, and there are those who succeed in
spite of their relatives. These two types of relatives are very influential and tend to focus on the
important and stressful topics going on in life. Then there are the relatives that inspire the crazy,
wonderful memories that are told to grandkids generations later. These relatives are extreme in
everything they do and can be classified into three specific types: the Drill Sergeant, the
Traditionalist and the Cheek Pincher. The Drill Sergeant plans everything to his or her idea of
perfection. In most cases, The Drill Sergeant in the family is a woman. She often suffers from
OCBD (obsessive children s behavior disorder) and has a supercilious attitude towards everyone in
her family. She pays painstaking attention to the manners of everyone around her and does not shy
from pointing out everyone s mistakes. When the Sergeant cooks dinner for the family, the meal is
often dull and healthy. She adds no seasoning to her dishes because that would ruin the authenticity
of the ingredients. At the dinner table, she stares down each family member to make sure that they
not only chew and swallow every single bite, instead of spitting out the meal into their napkins like
they desperately want to do; she also expects they will pretend to enjoy the meal with smiles on
their faces. Even

In evaluating the efficiency gain of international trade, we are concerned about the entire country or

What is meant by the community indifference curve?
The community indifference curve shows the various combinations of two commodities which
yield the same level of satisfaction or utility to a community or nation. It is intended to represent
the preferences of a country as a whole and is a convenient tool for deriving quantities of trade in

The shape of the production possibility frontier (PPF) of a country depends on: (1) its factor
endowments and (2) the production functions of the various commodities. The plausible shapes of
the production possibility frontier include:
Linear
Suppose there are constant returns to scale in both industries and only one factor, then the
production possibility frontier is a straight line. If the opportunity cost is constant as production of
different goods is changing, then a linear PPF is produced.
Concave (towards origin)
Suppose there is diseconomies of scale or decreasing returns to scale. Under full utilization of
resources, the production possibility frontier is concave towards the origin. This shape is basically
due to the differences in optimal factor intensities between industries. If a country faces increasing
opportunity costs or marginal rate of transformation (MRT) in producing more units of a
commodity, then this is shown by a PPF that is concave. The country will produce where the MRT
is equal to the equilibrium relative commodity price.
Convex (towards origin)
Suppose there is economies of scale or increasing returns to scale. Under full utilization of
resources, the production possibility frontier is convex towards the origin. If there is increasing
returns to scale in either or both industries and there is one factor of production then the production
set is non convex.

Colonialism Of Film And Literature Essay
Chenelle Seck Sociology of Colonialism Professor Ravi Palat 17 November 2016 Colonialism
in Film and Literature Colonialism is one country s control over another. It involves leaders who
are in power and the masses who are powerless and oppressed. Many countries around the world
have been colonized, exploited, and oppressed by European countries for various reasons,
including the European powers need to civilize and assimilate societies that were different from
their own. The topic of colonization is presented in scholarly work, books, art, and movies. Two
movies that demonstrate European colonization are Tjoet Nja Dhien, an Indonesian film and
Camp de Thiaroye, a Senegalese war film. Both these films depict the struggle between the
colonizers and the oppressed. Themes portrayed in the movies are women s roles, the Islamic
faith, and modernity in Tjoet Nja Dhien and racial identity, inequality, and cultural oppression in
Camp de Thiaroye. Two works of literature that support the themes in these movies are Child of
All Nations and God s Bits of Wood. Tjoet Nja Dhien is a 1988 Indonesian film about a woman
who led the Acehnese army against the Dutch after the death of her husband. The movie began with
the attempt of the Dutch to colonize Indonesia and the start of the war between them. After the
death of the war leader, Umer, leadership was taken over by his wife, Tjoet Nja Dhien. In the
movie, she was wise and persistent in her fight against Dutch colonization

  • 2. Economic Restructuring And Revitalization Of Detroit... Abstract This paper explores the economic restructuring and revitalization of Detroit Michigan post World War II until today. The purpose of this research paper is to show the history of Detroit s auto and manufacturing industry, in what ways it has changed in recent years, and how it has helped define the economy of Detroit and damaged it. This paper suggests that the deindustrialization of plants and industries and the depopulation of whites to the Suburbs have triggered the economic downfall of the Motor City. Some social issues such as race discrimination and segregation that might have led to the riots of 1943, and 1967, and the migration of African Americans to Northern States in search of employments will be discussed as well. General Motors, the country s leader in defense contracts, is firmly fixed in the public mind with the manufacture of automobiles... 35 percent of its total business is non automotive. This diversification... gives General Motors an enormous advantage... But little of this helps Michigan now, since G.M. no longer concentrates its military work in this area (Widick, 1959, Pg. 1). Widick (1959) suggests that a large percentage of the manufacturing was military based, however after World War II, General Motors expanded its military production to other cities and countries losing the main focus on Detroit. The manufacturing of war weapons, vehicles, and airplanes generated the economic spur in Detroit and the United States during World War II because the United States produced weapons and military technology to allied countries without fully involving manpower in the war. The massive production of military products ended after the war and the production of weapons had decreased. Restructuring Capital Mobility. In 2005, Thomas Sugrue identified the roots of Detroit s crisis through his article, The Origins of the Urban Crisis. Sugrue (2005) argues that restructuring came in the form of capital mobility. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Deplorable conditions in the islands sugar plantations caused many slave rebellions in this period of Cuba history. In 1868, Cuban landowners also began to resist the status quo, launching the first Cuban War of Independence. Many great Cuban national heroes rose to prominence during this period of Cuba history: Carlos Manuel de Cespedes, Maximo Gomez, Antonio Maceo, and Jose Marti. Memorials to these figures from history on Cuba are commonplace. The Ten Years War against Spain ended in 1878 with the Pact of Zanjon, which granted concessions to the Cuban rebels. Nevertheless, Marti and other revolutionaries continued their resistance to the Spanish authorities, some of them from exile in the United States. In April 1895, Maceo, Marti, and Gomez landed in Cuba to begin the second War of Independence. In 1898, with the rebels largely in control of the island, the United States used the explosion of the USS Maine in the Havana harbor to begin hostilities against Spain, starting the Spanish American War. In December 1898, Spain ceded control of the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Cuba to the United States. The next sixty years of history on Cuba featured a strong U.S. presence. The U.S. Navy established the base at Guantanamo Bay, American tourists flocked to the casinos, hotels, and brothels of Havana, and U.S. interference in internal Cuban politics was the norm. Both of these religions teach that if a person wanted to drown out the rest of the world, including one s own self, that person must pray. Hence, in monasteries, monks take on vows of silence. They believe that with the help of God they can overcome the urge to speak evil against anyone else, thus keeping there souls pure. This, however, is much harder than it seems. Jews and Buddhists do not always need to keep silent. Jews meditate and pray on a weekly basis. Buddhists, too, don t feel as though they need to take on a full time vow like the monasteries demand. It is detrimental to a monastic lifestyle that a vow of silence be kept. • 33. Theme Of Honesty In The Crucible An unknown speaker once said, A real man will be honest no matter how painful the truth is. A coward hides behind his lies and deceit. This quote relates to characters in The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, such as John Proctor, Rebecca Nurse, and Giles Corey. Each person took action and stood up for what was right. Faced with tough decisions, many characters throughout the play are severely tested by others in their surroundings because of the ways they lie, the ways they make false accusations, and the ways that they ultimately die for a cause. At the beginning of the play, Abigail Williams lies to avoid trouble. She tries to protect her life over the life of others instead of doing the right thing by being honest about what happened in the woods. She lies multiple times in the play accusing others of witchcraft, although it was false. When the courts put Abigail to the test to see if she tells the truth, she fails and drags most of the town down with her. Unlike Abigail, Elizabeth has always been known for her honesty. Her husband John says that Elizabeth never told a lie. Yet when it matters most, Elizabeth lies to try to save her husband s life. Ultimately, when Danforth and Hawthorne put her up to the test she fails to tell the truth and kills John. John, attempting to save himself, confesses to witchcraft. He lied to the courts and told them that he indeed was practicing the sorcery, when truthfully he was not. John thinks that this is the right thing to do to save his ... During this time, the Tudor Dynasty swept England from Roman Catholicism into the arms of Protestantism. However, such a massive change did not come without strife. Here he refers particularly to phenomenal consciousness, which Block defines as perceptual experiences, and Nagel describes as something that it is to be. This experiential element appears to present a challenge to the physicalist assertion that all mental processes are explicable in terms of physical brain states, biochemical reactions and the laws of physics. Frank Jackson presents this argument in his 1982 thesis Epiphenomenal Qualia. Brian Loar rejects Jackson s conclusion on the basis that he has misinterpreted Mary s learning. He suggests the knowledge she acquires is merely new concepts of the same properties that she learned about before her release, and not necessarily proof of non physical knowledge. Arguably, Jackson s aim is too rigid to add anything considerable to knowledge of the nature of consciousness. All it requires to be discredited is that one of its premises be disproven, which predisposes it to destruction in a way that Nagel s more circumspect argument does not. Furthermore, how can we accept an argument as useful whose advocate later completely abandoned his view and reverted to a physicalist position? The academic paper at hand aimed at assessing the performance of Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) programming for machining simulation. It has three main dimensions, introducing the machining simulation algorithm parallelization, discussing the main constraints related to the use of the CUDA architecture proposing different solutions to the problem of parallelization with CUDA. Authors have argued that the main purpose of machining simulations in Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software is to detect collisions between the tool and the part on the whole part surface of manufactured goods. Such surfaces are employed to provide sealing or friction functions, optical or aero dynamics properties. This task requires specific geometrical deviations to be executed within a given manufacturing process. The literature reveals that there are many methods to perform machining simulations. If the opportunity cost is constant as production of different goods is changing, then a linear PPF is produced. Concave (towards origin) Suppose there is diseconomies of scale or decreasing returns to scale. Under full utilization of resources, the production possibility frontier is concave towards the origin. This shape is basically due to the differences in optimal factor intensities between industries. If a country faces increasing opportunity costs or marginal rate of transformation (MRT) in producing more units of a commodity, then this is shown by a PPF that is concave. The country will produce where the MRT is equal to the equilibrium relative commodity price. Convex (towards origin) Suppose there is economies of scale or increasing returns to scale. Under full utilization of resources, the production possibility frontier is convex towards the origin. If there is increasing returns to scale in either or both industries and there is one factor of production then the production set is non convex. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Visualization Journal Examples Visualization journal The time I have eagerly waited for has come here I am pinning my hair up, and putting my long black robe on. Looking into the mirror I smile at myself and think about all the times I would constantly tell myself I am capable of doing much more than what they say I can and I here proving them wrong, my mother rushes in to tell me it s time to head over to the ceremony. Unfortunately, my father might not make it because of the fact he is working late and will not make it back in time. • 56. Colonialism Of Film And Literature Essay Chenelle Seck Sociology of Colonialism Professor Ravi Palat 17 November 2016 Colonialism in Film and Literature Colonialism is one country s control over another. It involves leaders who are in power and the masses who are powerless and oppressed. Many countries around the world have been colonized, exploited, and oppressed by European countries for various reasons, including the European powers need to civilize and assimilate societies that were different from their own. The topic of colonization is presented in scholarly work, books, art, and movies. Two movies that demonstrate European colonization are Tjoet Nja Dhien, an Indonesian film and Camp de Thiaroye, a Senegalese war film. Both these films depict the struggle between the colonizers and the oppressed. Themes portrayed in the movies are women s roles, the Islamic faith, and modernity in Tjoet Nja Dhien and racial identity, inequality, and cultural oppression in Camp de Thiaroye. Two works of literature that support the themes in these movies are Child of All Nations and God s Bits of Wood. Tjoet Nja Dhien is a 1988 Indonesian film about a woman who led the Acehnese army against the Dutch after the death of her husband. The movie began with the attempt of the Dutch to colonize Indonesia and the start of the war between them. After the death of the war leader, Umer, leadership was taken over by his wife, Tjoet Nja Dhien. In the movie, she was wise and persistent in her fight against Dutch colonization ...
