Posterior Ankle Impingement Essay
Posterior Ankle Impingement and Posterior Process With Rehab
Posterior ankle impingement is a condition that causes ankle pain and swelling at the back of the
ankle where the back of the shin bone (tibia) meets the top bone of the ankle (talus). It can happen
when soft tissue gets caught between these bones. Some people have an abnormal bone growth on
the back of the talus (os trigonum or posterior process). This can also become enlarged or swollen
and painful.
This condition is common in athletes who forcefully and repeatedly bend their foot downward
(plantar flexion) or push off their foot forcefully.
CAUSES
This condition can result from athletic activities that require you to get up on your toes or push off
your feet forcefully. These movements cause the back of the tibia and the top of the talus to come
together. Over time, this can cause swelling and irritation (inflammation).
RISK FACTORS
This condition is more likely to develop in:
People who have an os trigonum.
People who participate in certain sports, including:
в—‹ Ballet dancing.
в—‹ Track and field throwing sports, such as javelin and shot put.
в—‹ Trail running or cross country.
в—‹ Soccer.
в—‹ Football.
в—‹ Gymnastics.
SYMPTOMS
Symptoms of this condition include:
Pain behind the ankle that gets worse with plantar flexion.
Swelling at the back of the ankle.
Pain when pushing on the back of the ankle (tenderness).
Ankle stiffness.
DIAGNOSIS
This condition may be

Kristeva s Powers Of Horror Essay
Bell Hook s Marginality as a Site of Resistance, is an engaging and powerful comment on the
solicitude for all those colonised on the perimeter of society. That one must embrace this position
and identify as, but not be defined as the marginalised. Hooks argues in her essay, that succumbing
solely to the identity of the oppressed be it race, genderor class, stifles one individualism and
creativity. This space that is the margin, that is a site of creativity and power, that inclusive space
where we recover ourselves. (Hooks, 1990, p.343) To instead use this site of marginality as a
vantage point to gain a formative viewpoint and destabilise the deep structures of power and
cultural domination. Julia Kristevas Powers of Horror is an essay... Show more content on

Kristeva is attempting to explore the different ways in which abjection works within human
societies as means of separating out the human and non human. (Creed, 1993, p.8) It will focus on
Kristeva s theory of the abject and the construction of the human subject in relation to the border,
the mother child relationship and the feminine body. It will also explore how the representation of
woman as abject is almost always in relation to her mothering and reproductive functions. The
representation of women in relation to Freud s castration and the religious abject as discussed in
Powers of Horror will also be examined. This chapter will also include a discussion on Kristeva s
abject through Barbara Creed s The Monstrous Feminine. All human societies have a conception of
the monstrous feminine, of what it is about women that is shocking. (Creed, 1993, p.1) Creed gives
an interesting insight to Kristeva s abject and Freud s theory on castration in horror films. By
looking at the construction of female monsters and what it is about them that is monstrous, in
particular the archaic mother, the monstrous womb and the castrating mother as archetypes of the

The Case Of Thornton V Shoe Lane Parking
Key Issues 1.Is Jack Sprat bound by the exclusion clause within the Conditions of Carriage of
AusFly Airlines that he has agreed to but not read, and was such an exclusion clause effectively

within a contract are deemed by the court as unenforceable. As a result, the court will remove
these terms from the standard form contract, and treat the contract as if the term was never

that allows one party (but not the other) to vary the terms of the contract after it has been agreed
to (ACL s 25(1)(d)). In order to void the term under the Act (ACL s 23 (1)), two main
requirements must be satisfied: 1.The term must be unfair and 2.The contract must be a standard
form contract In this particular case, the airline appears to have waived / varied this policy
(term) by allowing Jack to check in and board the aircraft even though he missed the Check In
Deadline by 5 minutes. Therefore, it would seem unreasonable for the airline to then attempt to
reintroduce this term of the contract in order to avoid paying a refund after they subsequently
removed him from the flight due to overbooking. In addition, it would also be unfair to not
provide a refund on items purchased (eg accommodation) as missing the Check In Deadline is
unrelated to the accommodation. Request for Further Information: What are the Conditions of

The Panama Canal
Introduction
The Panama Canal has become famous all over the world for being one of the most successful
canals ever built, however, when it was first built many people thought that it was a mistake. During
the building of the canal, there were many problems and scandals that had to be taken care of
before the canal was up and running. Despite the problems during the construction of the canal,
after construction the canal greatly aided the economic growth of the United States in the early
twentieth century. In spite of the success of the canal and the seemingly positive impacts it had on
the growth and development of the U.S., some historians still believe that the construction of the
Panama Canal was not a good economic decision for the United States to make. The Panama Canal
had a positive effect on the U.S. economy because of the time saved by traveling through the canal,
the money saved from building the canal, and the growth of the U.S. economy as a whole as a
result of the construction of the canal.
Construction of the canal
Leaders in both Central America and the U.S supported the building of the canal. Both the
Nicaraguan and Costa Rican presidents were happy with the building of the Panama Canal. These
leaders thought that the canal would help bring economic prosperity to Central America, as well as
the United States. This helped the U.S. get approval from most of Central America to start the
construction of the canal. The New Panama Canal Company, the company that

Sweat By Zora Neale Hurston Essay
In her short story Sweat , Zora Neale Hurston details the troubled lives of a married African
American couple in the deep south. Born and raised in Florida herself, Huston had an excellent
perspective on the culture of that time and area. She no doubt saw the situations and heard the
strong dialect that she presents in the short story, in which Sykes constantly beats and demeans
his wife Delia, who keeps her retorts minimal as to not provoke him further. Sykes is openly
dating another woman, yet Delia takes no action, instead focusing on her work and religion. Delia
retains her indifference when Sykes is in a dire situation, allowing him to suffer just as she had.
Though her actions may seem justified, they present a major irony when considering her
devoutness to religion. Delia s refusal to modify her calm lifestyle despite Sykes s constant torment
reflects her cultural and religious backgrounds and is influenced by Hurston s own experiences. The
culture that Zora Neale Hurstongrew up around gave her insight into the setting and culture that
Sweat explores. Born in Eatonville, Florida, Hurston remembered Eatonville as a place of great
peace and happiness (Hemenway 10), though she was not oblivious to the difficulties surrounding
them. In fact, she embraced her place as an African Americanwoman; Hurston was quoted as
saying that she was not tragically colored. There is no great sorrow dammed up in my soul, nor
lurking behind my eyes (Hemenway 11). Hurston

How Does Beetle Mass Affect The Beetle s Pulling Power
Mackenzie Madden, T.J Manning,September 2nd, 2015 Danny Minogue, Lindsay Newton
The Effect of Beetle Mass on the Beetle s Pulling Power
Introduction
Does beetle mass effect the pulling power? This theory has been tested by conducting an
experiment with a bess beetle and some paperclips. Pulling power was calculated by dividing the
mass the beetle pulled by the mass of the individual beetle. The data that was collected was
processed into a graph that shows how mass affects the pulling power of these beetles. Bess
beetles are very interesting creatures with a lot of variety. The Bess beetle population makes up
0.14% of all beetles so it was definitely hard to pick just the right one to test. The hypothesis of
this experiment is if the beetle has a large mass, then it will be able to have more pulling power.
Materials and Methods ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next the beetle was weighed and it s weight was recorded. The dental floss was then tied around
the second and third legs, and taped to the petri dish. A strip of cloth was also needed to provide
traction for the beetle. Then, the petri dish was removed from the beetle and the weight of the
petri dish was recorded. The experiment was then ready to be performed. Paperclips were added
to the dish every 5 10 seconds until the beetle could pull it no more. Then, the petri dish was
removed from the beetle and the weight of was recorded. This experiment s dependent variable was
the amount of mass the beetle can pull, and the independent variable was the mass of the beetle.
There was no control group in this experiment. These were the materials and methods used to

The Beach Mold
Yes, mold is essential to the well being of our environment and without it, we would not have life
saving antibiotics like penicillin that would exist and scrumptious soft cheeses like brie would not
be here for us to spread on pieces of toasted french bread that compliment our favorite glass of
wine. Moldis necessary for the break down and decomposition for all of natures organic matter,
which helps recycle nutrients as well as gets rid of the build up of decaying matter and allows
new vegetation to grow. Mold does a lot of good for our planet but unfortunately, it can also cause
a lot of harm, especially if it begins to grow and spread undetected in your home.
Mold spores spread effectively and can t be totally destroyed.

Dry wet areas immediately. Mold can t grow without moisture, so tackle wet areas right away.
Seepage into the basement after a heavy rainfall, accumulation from a leaky pipe, even a spill on
the carpet should be dried within 24 to 48 hours. If you ve experienced a flood, remove water
damaged carpets, bedding, and furniture if they can t be completely dried. Even everyday
occurrences need attention: don t leave wet items lying around the house, and make sure to dry
the floor and walls after a shower. Don t leave wet clothes in the washing machine, where mold
can spread quickly. Hang them to dry preferably outside or in areas with good air circulation.
3. Prevent moisture with proper ventilation. It may be that your routine activities are encouraging
the growth of mold in your home. Make sure an activity as simple as cooking dinner, taking a
shower, or doing a load of laundry doesn t invite mold by providing proper ventilation in your
bathroom, kitchen, laundry room, and any other high moisture area. Your energy efficient home
may be holding moisture inside, so open a window when cooking or washing dishes or showering,
or run an exhaust

Essay On Surgical Site Wound Closure
A critical literature review exploring the effectiveness of using skin staples as opposed to sutures or
skin adhesive as closing materials after orthopaedic surgery.
Aim: This paper considers the effectiveness of different methods of closure materials after surgery
looking primarily at complications such as infection rates and dehiscence of wounds. Secondary
outcomes measured include cosmetic scar evaluation, patient satisfaction, and cost, ease of use and
speed of application.
Background. Surgical site wound closure can play a key part in the recovery of patients post
operatively. The use of closure material is usually according to the preference of the surgeon and is
a frequently debated issue.

Similarly in the study by Gupta et al (2015), a higher incidence of wound infections were found
when using staples compared to patients receiving a nylon suture. The nylon suture is different
from the vicryl suture and as a non absorbable material and have different properties to that of the
vicryl suture. This however was a much bigger sample size of 513 patients, randomised into two
groups, 262 patients receiving a nylon suture and 241 patient s staples as closure material for their
wounds after orthopaedic surgery. It was concluded that as many as 36 patients in the staple group
contracted infections compared to the 14 patients in the nylon suture group. Also recorded in this
study was the incidence of wound dehiscence and a higher number were found in the patients that
received staples at 29 patients compared to 25 in the nylon suture category. Murphy et al (2004)
mentions that removing the nylon sutures were more painful to patients and took longer than
having skin staples removed. Nylon sutures are non braided and have a reduced risk of infection as
it lacks the grooves and rough surface for pathogens to attach

Fat Tax On Junk Food
The idea of implementing Fat Tax on junk food in the U.S. has been in the works for quite some
time. California is first in the nation to implement the fat tax . This tax will be applied to any
items containing more than 2.3% saturated fat, including, dairy products such as cheese and
milk, processed foods, pizza, soda, and candy. The purpose of such a tax is to deter consumers
from purchasing these unhealthy foods and lower the obesity rate. According to Ogden, Carroll,
Kit and Flegal (2014), prevalence of obesity in the United States is high, with one third of adults
and 17% of children obese ( Prevalence of Childhood Obesity in the United States , 2014).The
number of obese children is alarming, albeit, significant measures have been taken in schools to
provide healthier meals. Unfortunately, there is little guidance when it comes to food choices at
home. Fat tax on junk food will provide consumers with the guidance and encouragement needed
to make healthier food choices. There is much controversy when it comes to these taxes and
many oppose same. Steven Kurlander, an attorney and blogger for the Huffington Post, is clearly
not in favor of implementing fat taxes and refers to these taxes as really nothing more than taxes
we overweight Americans really can t afford to pay ( Fat Taxes Won t Slim Down Americans ,
2013 ). Kurlander comes across a bit combative and bias but more importantly, he contradicts
himself. He compares fat tax to the sin tax which

Pepe Research Paper
For my final art project, I created my own version of the popular meme known as Pepe.
Collecting rare Pepes was a famous trend that took the internet by storm. Though the trend has
died down now, I wanted to make my own version to call my own. Since it would be the only one
ever created, it would rank among the rarest Pepes ever created. I ve based my Pepe on one of
the first ones ever made, created by artist Matt Furie. If he hadn t created the Pepe, my final art
project would have been completely different. Matt Furie s art is almost all very colorful and
strange, practically abstract. His art way my inspiration for my project. This is very similar to

Essay On Henry Rifle
The original Henry rifle was a sixteen shot .44 caliber rimfire, lever action, breech loading rifle
patented by Benjamin Tyler Henry in 1860 after three years of design work.[1] The Henry was
an improved version of the earlier Volition Repeating Rifle. The Henry used copper (later brass)
rimfire cartridges with a 216 grain (14.0 gram, 0.490 ounce) bullet over 25 grains (1.6 g, 0.056
oz.) of gunpowder. Production was very small (150 to 200 a month) until middle of 1864. Nine
hundred were manufactured between summer and October 1862; by 1864, production had peaked
at 290 per month, bringing the total to 8,000 manufactured.[2] By the time production ended in
1866, approximately 14,000 units had been manufactured. For a Civil War soldier, owning a Henry
rifle was a point of pride.[3] Letters home would call them Sixteen or Seventeen Shooters,
depending whether a round was loaded in the chamber.[citation needed] The US Government

Are Financial Constraints an Important Determination in a...
The Cash Flow Sensitivity of Sash
Research Question Does the link between financial constraints and firms demand for liquidity can
help us identify whether financial constraints are an important determinant of firm behavior.
Contribution Previous scholars, Fazzari, Hubbard, and Petersen, proposed that investment activities
of a firm is limited by the firm s financial situation, which is called financial constraints. When
firms face financial constraints, the firm s investment cash flow sensitivity is high. When a firm
face no financial constraints, its investment cash flow sensitivity is low. However this theory was
doubtful by some scholars. In 1997, Kaplan and Zingales propose an exactly opposite theory. In
2001, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The authors further test the intuition of our argument by investigating firms propensity to save
cash out of cash inflow over the business cycle.
Result
The authors use two alternative method to empirically model the cash flow sensitivity of cash.
The first model only include proxies: cash flow and investment opportunities. The second model
is estimated from a method in which a firm s decision to change its cash holdings is modeled as a
function of a number of sources and uses of funds. The result reported in table III is related to the
first model. The set of constrained firms shows significantly positive sensitivities of cash to cash
flow sensitivities. The sensitivity estimates for constrained firms are between 0.051 and 0.062 and
are all statistically significant at better than the 1% level.
The result reported in table IV is related to the second model. This finding is consistent with the
view that there are systematic difference between constrained and unconstrained firms in the way
they conduct their cash policies.
Paper s Findings
By conducting this study, the authors conclude that financial constraints and firm s liquidity
demand can help identify whether financial constraints can

A Study Of Microbial Theory
Traditionally, the study of microbial model systems in ecology has been limited, although the
advent of molecular tools such as next generation sequencing has advanced the understanding of
microbial community patterns and processes. This has resulted in a growing focus on studying
fundamental ecological processes such as assembly and stability on microbial communities (Fierer,
Ferrenberg, Flores, et al., 2012). Because of their simplicity, microbial model systems are in
contrast with the complexity of the macro ecological communities, allowing researchers to establish
and test fundamental ecological mechanisms relevant to macro ecological processes (Jessup,
Kassen, Forde, et al., 2004). However, the current focus of microbial ecology is on characterizing
simple community properties such as alpha beta diversity, relative abundance, and phylogenetic or
taxonomic overlap (Baberan, Casamayor Fierer, 2011). Here, we aim to move past species
inventories and abundance data towards understanding species interactions using a network
approach, allowing us to characterize the ubiquitous building blocks of pharynx community
common to all subjects of our study. Like macro communities, fundamental ecological processes
such as niche selection, dispersal or drift, play part in the formation and stability of the human
microbiome. By using microbial communities as model systems, characterizing their ecological
properties, assembly mechanisms and community dynamics, we can gain deeper

The Properties Of Life In Plants And Plants
The properties of life that plants and animals should possess include heredity and growth,
homeostasis, cellular organization, metabolism and responsiveness. Merriam Webster defined the
transmission of such qualities from ancestor to descendant through the genes. Therefore, heredity is
the power of an organismto reach data about itself onto its young. As well, growth is included as a
property of life because all living things originate and some may develop much quicker than others.
Another attribute of life is homeostasis. This is when living things possess a stable internal
environment regardless of any alterations in their external environment. In summation, the cellular
organization is another attribute of animation where all living things are composed of cells where
some have unicellular organisms and some have multicellular organisms. Furthermore, metabolism
is needed to provide organisms with energy and responsiveness must do with outside
environmental changes. Lastly, reproduction is not necessary for the survival of organisms, but is
necessary for there to be a prolongation of life. Not only do organisms require the properties of
spirit for survival but also molecules that are important for the prolongation of life. These molecules
include carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids. Carbohydrates contain sugars and starches
that provide and store energy for cells. Also, carbohydrates serve as the construction material for the
physical structure of plants.

The Theories Of Louis Althusser And Michel Foucault
Religion is potentially one of the single most influential concepts in our history as people. Power
in religion divides social groups and those groups contain a tiny portion of a ruling elite group
who make use of power and control others. In social groups, individuals who are inferior or
subordinate are dealt with as subjects by the ones who exert more control and are compelled to
accept societal norms free willingly while those who are superior hold power. A Pentecostal church
uses powerful mechanisms such as internal surveillance or panopticismto keep their believers in a
well disciplined society. In this essay I look at the way power is exerted throughout the ritual at
Kennedy Road Tabernacle in a Pentecostal church, demonstrating how those in power have control
over the ones who are inferior or subordinate. Throughout this examination, I will use the theories of
Louis Althusserand Michel Foucaultto analyze the ways in which power is exerted within the
members of this community.
During my observations at our visit to the Pentecostal church, there was an unequal distribution of
power between the men and women in labour divisions and the tasks they were assigned in terms
of the location they were in while performing the tasks. The Kennedy Road Tabernacle Pentecostal
church had both a lobby and the main hall where the ritual took place. Upon entering the lobby of
the church, there was a woman standing at the entrance handing out brochures and greeting people

Lab Report On Catalase Reactivity
INTRODUCTION In this experiment, we are trying to figure out how different concentrations of
substrate affect an enzyme reactivity. We are using hydrogen peroxide as the substrate and yeast
as the enzyme. Based on my background knowledge, I hypothesize that if more hydrogen peroxide
is added, then the seconds between a paper disk floating to the top would be lower than a lesser
amount of hydrogen peroxidesolution. I thought that the more peroxide solution there was, than the
more the enzymecould react. An enzyme is a type of catalyst that speeds up a reaction. In this lab
we are using the enzyme called catalase. Catalase is used to break down H2O2. (hydrogen
peroxide).
METHODS
The materials you will need are forceps, a pencil, yeast solution, hydrogen peroxide, filter paper
disks, six 250 ml beakers, distilled water, paper towels, and graph paper. These concentrations
below will be put into each beaker. Be sure to label each beaker.
Then you will put a solution of activated yeast in a beaker. Use the forceps to dip the paper disk
into the beaker, which contains the catalase enzyme. Next, use the forceps to transfer the paper
disk into the bottom of the beakers with hydrogen peroxide. You will then measure how long it
takes for the bubbles to carry the disk to the top of the beaker. Measure the amount of seconds it
takes for the paper disk to float to the top in the data table. Repeat the steps until you have at least
3 trials for each hydrogen peroxide solution.

Long Distance Relationship Essay
Long distance relationships can be a pain. The word distance is why. Many individuals who have
been in a relationship since high school are trying to continue their relationship in separate colleges.
When being in a long distance relationship some of the love can become lost, unless it is true love.
Although, many people think that long distance relationships are impossible to maintain, there are
solutions to this problem for college students who are separated by distance.
A problem that many people do not realize until they reach college is the distance of a previous
relationship. A long distance relationship can be defined as a relationship where two individuals are
separate from each other. Many young relationships begin the freshman year of high school and
some even make it to the senior year which is when things start going South. The problem begins
once college acceptance letters comes both people go separate ways. In many cases the two
people involved have views that differ as far as school goes which then causes turmoil when one
decides to go to school out of state in which they reside. Through having trust, in a college
relationship the both of the individuals have to be open with one another about what is going on
while at college. Though it is not a guarantee that he or she will always tell the truth if they really
know the person they are romantically involved with he or she will know if they are telling them
lies to spare their heart. Many times, young

After TAX Cost Debt
O Grandy Apparel Company can calculate the after tax debt cost using YTM (CP + (FV Nd /n)

N is 20*2 because it is semi annually then you have to use Kdt= Kd+ (i T) .The tax bracket is 40
percent. Now we can have the after tax debt when it is equal or smaller than $700000
Kd ( 1 T) = 0.1249 (1 0.4)= 0.07494. If it is more than $700000 it will be KD (1 t) = 0.18(1 0.4) =

the cost of financing. As a result all providers of financing will receive their required returns.
Part D
The O Grady Apparel Company wanted to see the effects of a more highly levered capital
structure on their ability to take on potential investments. The break points for this highly levered
capital structure consisting of 50 percent long term debt, 10 percent preferred equity, and 40
percent common equity are calculated in very much the same way as the break points from part B
involving the original capital structure. The only difference between the two calculations is that the
reinvested profits of 1,300,000 and the $700,000 in additional debt were calculated over the new
structure values. The resulting breakpoints are $3,250,000 for common equity and $1,400,000 for
long term debt (see exhibit 4a).
The highly levered capital structure had a significant effect on the findings of sections B and C.
First of all, the ranges which resulted from the new calculation of the break points caused the
weighted average cost of capital (WACC) at all range levels to drop. The WACC is calculated by
multiplying the weights of the capital structure by the costs of

Race And European Superiority During The First World War
Race and European superiority were important aspects of the First World War for two main reasons.
Ideas about race were developed throughout the 19th century during the scramble for Africa. The
partition of Africa became one of the most prominent preoccupations of modern Europeans.
Furthermore, several of the major countries at war between 1914 and 1918 possessed large colonial
empires, where white Europeans ruled over Africans, Asians, and Pacific Islanders. Until recently,
historians rarely mentioned the involvement of colonial troops during the First World War. It can
be seen today that every country had different point of views concerning the reasons for the
involvement of African troops in colonial armies but also the treatment of Africans. It is therefore
important to understand how important those ideas of race and European superiority in the
treatment of Africans in the colonial armies were. To answer this question, one must first
understand the concept of race and European superiority in the treatment of Africans. When
Europeans colonised Africaand Asia, they made sure that the native people knew that they were
their leaders and that they were superior to them. However, during the First World War many
Africans and Asians fought alongside the Europeans. To comprehend how important those ideas of
race and European superiority in the treatment of Africans in the colonial armies, one can firstly
analyse the importance of race and European superiority in France.

In Viktor Frankl s Man s Search for Meaning we are told a powerful story of a man s survival
through the Holocaust. Frankl struggles to not only keep his body alive, but his spirit as well.
Frankl s main goal is to not only come out alive from the Holocaust but to not let it change him
and ultimately defeat or take over his life and change who he truly is. He knows the only way to
stay alive is to find some sort of meaning in his life. As we watch him fight to survive during his
stay in concentration camps we begin to realize that the only way he is surviving is because he

He says Had I known then that my wife was dead I think that I would have still given myself,
undisturbed by that knowledge, to the contemplation of her image, and that my mental conversation
with her would have been just as vivid and just as satisfying (39). By turning to his faith and the
thought of his wife, Frankl kept in mind things that were just as important to him as his job that
could help him survive. This shows us what is truly important to Frankl. In times of crisis, humans
often turn to comforting thoughts and obviously Frankl s faith and family is so important to him
that in his time of physical, mental, and emotional crisis he knew he could count on the thought of
his wife and his belief in God to get him through. This helps us see the kind of person that Frankl is.
During the Holocaust, many of the Nazis tried to take away the little hope left in people like
Viktor Frankl. As if starving and over working the prisoners wasn t enough, they were brutally
beaten, hung in front of the other inmates and burned alive. But Frankl felt there was some sort of
meaning to suffering. He says
The way in which a man accepts his fate and all the suffering it entails, the way in which he takes
up his cross, gives him ample opportunity even under the most difficult circumstances to add a
deeper meaning to his life. It may remain brave, dignified and unselfish. Or in the bitter

Ap Euro Dbq French Revolution Calendar
The French Revolution inspired the desire for change and freedom from oppression. Being
limited by the Roman Catholic Church and government was no longer ideal, resulting in many
new proposals. Of these proposals was the notion of wanting to change the Gregorian calendar to a
new and non religious calendar, the Revolutionary calendar. This calendar was made strictly on
reasons aimed to improve France and change previous rituals. With the new system of different
months and days, the adoption of the calendar stimulated controversy between supporters of it and
the opposition. Those in favor of the calendar argued that in order to fully break away from the old
customs of France and the church, there must be a reform in all former things. This includes... Show

The new calendar should not have changed because everyone was already used to the system of
the Gregorian calendar. Making a new calendar will confuse many and throw off schedules of
customary practices (Document 2). Abbe Sieyes responded with this because he was a
clergyman who supported the National Assembly, meaning that the new calendar could
consequently result in hardships for the lower class, which went against what Sieyes fought for.
Adding onto this, the people of the lower class will have a harder time with the new ten days in
a week. Working nine out of ten of those days doing hard labor is vigorous work that required all
of their time. A peasant at this time would hate the Revolutionary calendar because having only
one day to take a break is not enough for one to fully regenerate themselves after constant weeks
of labor (Document 4). In addition, this calendar upset many because it was imposed on the
people by force, no one previously had a problem with the Gregorian calendar (Document 5).
Also, images of spiritual related objects will constantly be seen and since the people were
accustomed to religion, practices and traditions will never fade away (Document 6). Being a
government official who resides in a French town will have first hand view of the rituals among
the people and will notice that the new calendar system is flawed. It was only a matter of time until

Keynesian Views On Money Price Relationship Essay
2.4 Keynesian Views on Money Price Relationship
Keynes accepted the classical view that increase in money supply causes rising prices or inflation
only when the aggregate output corresponds to full employment and aggregate supply curve is
vertical. Keynes published an article entitled How to Pay for the War in 1940, in which he
developed a demand side model incorporating inflation process with temporarily rigid prices in the
labor market. The primary concern of Keynes was to provide space for the necessary increase in
output during war where the economy had already reached the full employment level. At full
employment level, as aggregate demand increases it results in inflationary gap. This inflationary
gap can be removed either by taxation or by saving in such a way that aggregate demand equals
existing output (Skidelsky 2000, 84).
Snowdon and Vane (2005) write
Keynes, in his How to Pay for the War (1940), advocated wartime fiscal restraint. This pamphlet
is described by Vines (2003, p. 343) as a marvelous piece of applied economics even if his plan
was only partially adopted (Keynes believed that an alternative system of universal rationing
amounted to Bolshevism ; see Skidelsky, 2000, p. 68). Keynes s analysis involved comparing
aggregate demand, including war expenditures, with potential aggregate supply. Keynes (see
Skidelsky, 2000, p. 84) defined the inflationary gap as the amount of purchasing power which has to
be withdrawn control as the most efficient

His major contribution to apologetics and theology is now called the Ontological Proof, which,
essentially, is a set of logical steps which show that God must exist.
One thousand years later, his proof is still a powerful argument against the plague of atheism. With
it, we can turn the tables on physicists, biologists, chemists, and psychologists. We can fall asleep
at night knowing in our soul that God does indeed exist. We can use the scientist s weapons of logic
and rhetoric to injure that scientist s theories.
But, the skeptic asks, how can we use a one thousand year old argument now, in the year 2000? Is
it not out of date? Is it still applicable in a world of black holes, nuclear physics, Einstein Rosen
bridges, and self replicating memes?
I answer in the affirmative, and I will relate the Ontological Argument in a more contemporaneous
way, with the hope that my more simplistic, understandable methods will prove effective.
Anselm s Ontological Argument:
The essential points of Anselm s arguments are these:
God exists, for there is goodness in the world, and goodness can be good only through a supreme
good that is good through itself, and only God is good through Himself.
God exists, for since whatever exists does so only through something, there must be a supremely
great being that exists through itself and through which all other things exist.

The return premium is associated with time series momentum and investors can evaluate future
performance by analyzing past returns. It would facilitate the research development and discussion
in financial economics field for time series momentum and validity of random walk hypothesis.
(276 words) 4.Theory and data The paper contains several models. To understand the time series
predictability of future returns less than 1 year, returns of time series momentum is decomposed.
Regression analysis and time series momentum trading strategies are used. Regression analysis is to
predict the price movement, i.e. momentum and reversal. To set up the model, the excess return for
instrument is divided by their volatility, so as to be standardized to the same scale. T statistic is
used to test the model. Positive t statistic indicates momentum while negative sign indicates
reversals. For time series momentum trading strategies, the position size of each strategy is
inversely proportional to the instrument s ex ante volatility and the ex ante volatility is kept
constant, so as to maintain stability of the strategy. Pass excess returns are used in the model for
computing time series momentum strategy returns. Then, regression is carried out to compute
alpha and evaluate abnormal return of the strategies. To analyze the return from time series
momentum, a single time series momentum strategy (TSMOM) is used.

light skin and dark hair. As populations started to lose hair and their sun exposure increased, the

another. The society desires a perfect utopia, severely punishing and treating those who commit sin
as criminals. The society ultimately becomes one of ignorance, hypocrisy, and isolation... Show

Both characters are put down by their own struggles but naturally learn very different lessons.
Dimmesdale slowly but surely begins to understand how severe the damages of his guilt, hiding,
and hypocrisy are to his soul. He goes through intense episodes of self harm and abuse as he lives
with Chillingworth, the evil physician who acts as a catalyst to strengthening the grief and guilt
that shadows poor Dimmesdale. After seven long years of hiding his sin and relationship with
Hester from the public, Dimmesdale realizes how absurd his decision to conceal his struggle is.
While conversing with Hester in the shadowy forest, free from Puritan judgement, Dimmesdale
exclaims, Else, I should long ago have thrown off these garments of mock holiness, and have
shown myself to mankind as they will see me at the judgment seat. Happy are you, Hester, that
wear the scarlet letter openly upon your bosom! Mine burns in secret! (Hawthorne 167).
Dimmesdale is finally brought to his senses when he reveals his admiration for Hester s bravery
in being accountable for the sin. He realizes that if he could have adopted his sin upon the scaffold
as hester does seven years prior, he would be much better off. While Dimmesdale sees Hester
embracing her sin, he feels that she has put herself through much

To What Extent Is a Focus on Metaphor and Symbol Central...
To what extent is a focus on metaphor and symbol central to an analysis and understanding of
Douglas Dunn s poetry? (The Kaleidoscope/Sandra s Mobile/Second Opinion)
It is considered more difficult for a poet to grab the attention and imagination of an audience than it
is for an author. The use of metaphor and symbol in poetry means that the poet can say one thing
and invoke a whole range of possibilities, be it love, anger, jealousy or envy; an old memory or a
new wish. The use of metaphors and symbols enables the audience to see what they believe Dunn
meant, by imaging his true meaning of a word. The three poems I have chosen to study are: The
Kaleidoscope , Sandra s Mobile and Second Opinion . These are all part of the ... Show more

Throughout the poem, Dunn recollects and remembers the memories, however, the use of the
word wait could symbolise the wait involved in grieving, finally accepting that your loved one is
gone and beginning to piece your life back together. The repetition of wait in line 13, in
reference to an absurd forgiveness shows us that Dunn blames himself for his Wife s death, and
it symbolises the amount of guilt he is carrying, especially when combined with the line above in
which Dunn begins to resort to desperation through the use of the verb offering me followed by
the triad my flesh, my soul, my skin which could symbolise the ultimate sacrifice. In line 7, A
symmetry of husbands, each redesigned shows the imperfections that Dunn believes he has, not
even symmetry, the idea of an exactness to two halves, could stop Dunn being redesigned. It
could also symbolise, through the idea of husbands, the huge workload that was placed on one
man. This links with the triads placed in the poem, the idea of constant simultaneous actions,
stand, and wait, and cry , foresight, prayer and hope , having to juggle the knowledge of The tray
mentioned in line 1 and line 10, could symbolise the idea of slavery, to be carrying a tray,
responding to every movement and request, and yet, the reader can see that Dunn does what he
does out of love, he puts himself through unimaginable turmoil to prolong the time

Odysseus Sirens
Aigul Samb Professor Avra Spector Great Works November 31, 2014 The Silence of the Siren
In the short story The Silence of the Sirens , Kafka rewrites the myth of how Odysseus escapes
the sirens in his own distinctive way. The sirens are best known for failing to trick Homer s
Odysseus with their alluring song, but there exist numerous other, occasionally conflicting,
myths concerning them. This ambiguity contributed to various interpretation of physical
appearance and symbolic significance of sirens ever since it was composed by Homer 2800
years ago. It is also another reason it served to be a rich material for Kafka s own brand of
ambiguous and complex fiction. In Homer s work Odysseus took actions that are quite different
than described by Kafka. However, in both stories Odysseus manages to escape the sirens.. The
first element that s worth depicting is perhaps the most obvious: Kafka s sirens are conspicuously
silent. Silence is described here as a weapon far more prevailing than song, and the Kafka adds
that even if it were possible to survive exposure to the song of the sirens, their silence is something
from which no man could possibly escape. The implication is that... Show more content on

The part of the story I really want to focus on is the second half, beginning half way through the
third paragraph. As Odysseus ship passes the sirens island, he ceases to be aware of them, as he
fixes his gaze on the distance . This far sightedness is usually a characteristic attributed to the sirens
themselves, their muse like wisdom precluding knowledge of the present moment, and yet Kafka
attributes it to

The Use Of Technology In The Veldt By Ray Bradbury
In the present day of technology virtual reality is becoming a new trend. The ability to explore
places without going there for real. Ray Bradbury famous author of predictive science fiction
wrote a short story on the use of technology in such a way. The Veldt by Ray Bradbury tells the
story of a family of four, two kids and their parents. The story focuses on a piece of technology
known as the nursey which create virtual scenery for the kids, but the parents begin to suspect
something wrong is going on with it. Ray Bradbury does a fantastic job of conveying the sense of
detachment of the family due to the presence of the nursey and the house s technology. The Veldt
does good job of satirizing technology and its consequence on family interaction or human
interaction in general. The family in The Veldt from early on are shown to be distance. In the
beginning scenes, the story conveys the sense that the parents do not understand a lot about what
their children are up to. Also, it seems the children do not even need their parents whatsoever. The
house in the short storydoes everything the Hadley family could ever wanted and does any chores
around the house for them. When the parents and children interact for the first time in the story a
sense of detachment from the parents is felt through the children s act of hiding what has been
going on in the nursey. Afterwards the parents admit that their children do not respect or listen
them. The parents also admit they are very

Analysis Of The Episode Harley And Ivy From Batman The...
The episode Harley and Ivy from Batman the Animated Series is full of interesting ideas and
exciting calls to action for its audience. Poison Ivy and her adventures with Harley Quinn not only
explore what it means to be a virtuous character but also question what it means to be and
independent and strong woman. Ivy specifically acts as the main example of female empowerment
and throughout the entire. While the author of the episode, Paul Dini, and the director of the
episode, Boyd Kirkland, do not tackle the feminist goals of this episode in totally flawless ways,
they still do a good job of using Poison Ivy s character to asks the audience, specifically the female
audience, to encourage female friendship, fight sexism, and questions genderroles and what it
means to be a virtuous and empowered woman. In this episode Harley and Ivy become partners in
crime, but they also become living partners in Ivy s home, they seem to enjoy sharing the space and
are seen drinking coffee together among other homey activities. In the scenes when they are home
together, they both looked relaxed, comfortable, and happy with each other. Neither of them wear
any of their regular villain outfits, but instead trade their crime causing fashion for big comfy t
shirts. I would argue that they become romantic partners and because of this they become the
perfect team. They decide to work together, they become the Queens of Crime, robbing museums
and stealing money, and they become more powerful

  • 2. Posterior Ankle Impingement Essay Posterior Ankle Impingement and Posterior Process With Rehab Posterior ankle impingement is a condition that causes ankle pain and swelling at the back of the ankle where the back of the shin bone (tibia) meets the top bone of the ankle (talus). It can happen when soft tissue gets caught between these bones. Some people have an abnormal bone growth on the back of the talus (os trigonum or posterior process). This can also become enlarged or swollen and painful. This condition is common in athletes who forcefully and repeatedly bend their foot downward (plantar flexion) or push off their foot forcefully. CAUSES This condition can result from athletic activities that require you to get up on your toes or push off your feet forcefully. These movements cause the back of the tibia and the top of the talus to come together. Over time, this can cause swelling and irritation (inflammation). RISK FACTORS This condition is more likely to develop in: People who have an os trigonum. People who participate in certain sports, including: в—‹ Ballet dancing. в—‹ Track and field throwing sports, such as javelin and shot put. в—‹ Trail running or cross country. в—‹ Soccer. в—‹ Football. в—‹ Gymnastics. • 3. Kristeva s Powers Of Horror Essay Bell Hook s Marginality as a Site of Resistance, is an engaging and powerful comment on the solicitude for all those colonised on the perimeter of society. That one must embrace this position and identify as, but not be defined as the marginalised. Hooks argues in her essay, that succumbing solely to the identity of the oppressed be it race, genderor class, stifles one individualism and creativity. This space that is the margin, that is a site of creativity and power, that inclusive space where we recover ourselves. (Hooks, 1990, p.343) To instead use this site of marginality as a vantage point to gain a formative viewpoint and destabilise the deep structures of power and cultural domination. Kristeva is attempting to explore the different ways in which abjection works within human societies as means of separating out the human and non human. (Creed, 1993, p.8) It will focus on Kristeva s theory of the abject and the construction of the human subject in relation to the border, the mother child relationship and the feminine body. It will also explore how the representation of woman as abject is almost always in relation to her mothering and reproductive functions. The representation of women in relation to Freud s castration and the religious abject as discussed in Powers of Horror will also be examined. This chapter will also include a discussion on Kristeva s abject through Barbara Creed s The Monstrous Feminine. All human societies have a conception of the monstrous feminine, of what it is about women that is shocking. (Creed, 1993, p.1) Creed gives an interesting insight to Kristeva s abject and Freud s theory on castration in horror films. By looking at the construction of female monsters and what it is about them that is monstrous, in particular the archaic mother, the monstrous womb and the castrating mother as archetypes of the abject ... As a result, the court will remove these terms from the standard form contract, and treat the contract as if the term was never present (Australian Consumer Law s 23(1)). One such example of unfair terms is when a term that allows one party (but not the other) to vary the terms of the contract after it has been agreed to (ACL s 25(1)(d)). In order to void the term under the Act (ACL s 23 (1)), two main requirements must be satisfied: 1.The term must be unfair and 2.The contract must be a standard form contract In this particular case, the airline appears to have waived / varied this policy (term) by allowing Jack to check in and board the aircraft even though he missed the Check In Deadline by 5 minutes. Therefore, it would seem unreasonable for the airline to then attempt to reintroduce this term of the contract in order to avoid paying a refund after they subsequently removed him from the flight due to overbooking. In addition, it would also be unfair to not provide a refund on items purchased (eg accommodation) as missing the Check In Deadline is unrelated to the accommodation. • 5. The Panama Canal Introduction The Panama Canal has become famous all over the world for being one of the most successful canals ever built, however, when it was first built many people thought that it was a mistake. During the building of the canal, there were many problems and scandals that had to be taken care of before the canal was up and running. Despite the problems during the construction of the canal, after construction the canal greatly aided the economic growth of the United States in the early twentieth century. In spite of the success of the canal and the seemingly positive impacts it had on the growth and development of the U.S., some historians still believe that the construction of the Panama Canal was not a good economic decision for the United States to make. The Panama Canal had a positive effect on the U.S. economy because of the time saved by traveling through the canal, the money saved from building the canal, and the growth of the U.S. economy as a whole as a result of the construction of the canal. Construction of the canal Leaders in both Central America and the U.S supported the building of the canal. Both the Nicaraguan and Costa Rican presidents were happy with the building of the Panama Canal. These leaders thought that the canal would help bring economic prosperity to Central America, as well as the United States. This helped the U.S. get approval from most of Central America to start the construction of the canal. The New Panama Canal Company, the company that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Sweat By Zora Neale Hurston Essay In her short story Sweat , Zora Neale Hurston details the troubled lives of a married African American couple in the deep south. Born and raised in Florida herself, Huston had an excellent perspective on the culture of that time and area. She no doubt saw the situations and heard the strong dialect that she presents in the short story, in which Sykes constantly beats and demeans his wife Delia, who keeps her retorts minimal as to not provoke him further. Sykes is openly dating another woman, yet Delia takes no action, instead focusing on her work and religion. Delia retains her indifference when Sykes is in a dire situation, allowing him to suffer just as she had. Though her actions may seem justified, they present a major irony when considering her devoutness to religion. Delia s refusal to modify her calm lifestyle despite Sykes s constant torment reflects her cultural and religious backgrounds and is influenced by Hurston s own experiences. The culture that Zora Neale Hurstongrew up around gave her insight into the setting and culture that Sweat explores. Born in Eatonville, Florida, Hurston remembered Eatonville as a place of great peace and happiness (Hemenway 10), though she was not oblivious to the difficulties surrounding them. In fact, she embraced her place as an African Americanwoman; Hurston was quoted as saying that she was not tragically colored. There is no great sorrow dammed up in my soul, nor lurking behind my eyes (Hemenway 11). Hurston ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. How Does Beetle Mass Affect The Beetle s Pulling Power Mackenzie Madden, T.J Manning,September 2nd, 2015 Danny Minogue, Lindsay Newton The Effect of Beetle Mass on the Beetle s Pulling Power Introduction Does beetle mass effect the pulling power? This theory has been tested by conducting an experiment with a bess beetle and some paperclips. Pulling power was calculated by dividing the mass the beetle pulled by the mass of the individual beetle. The data that was collected was processed into a graph that shows how mass affects the pulling power of these beetles. Bess beetles are very interesting creatures with a lot of variety. The Bess beetle population makes up 0.14% of all beetles so it was definitely hard to pick just the right one to test. The hypothesis of this experiment is if the beetle has a large mass, then it will be able to have more pulling power. Materials and Methods ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The experiment was then ready to be performed. Paperclips were added to the dish every 5 10 seconds until the beetle could pull it no more. Then, the petri dish was removed from the beetle and the weight of was recorded. • 11. Fat Tax On Junk Food The idea of implementing Fat Tax on junk food in the U.S. has been in the works for quite some time. California is first in the nation to implement the fat tax . This tax will be applied to any items containing more than 2.3% saturated fat, including, dairy products such as cheese and milk, processed foods, pizza, soda, and candy. The purpose of such a tax is to deter consumers from purchasing these unhealthy foods and lower the obesity rate. According to Ogden, Carroll, Kit and Flegal (2014), prevalence of obesity in the United States is high, with one third of adults and 17% of children obese ( Prevalence of Childhood Obesity in the United States , 2014).The number of obese children is alarming, albeit, significant measures have been taken in schools to provide healthier meals. Unfortunately, there is little guidance when it comes to food choices at home. Fat tax on junk food will provide consumers with the guidance and encouragement needed to make healthier food choices. There is much controversy when it comes to these taxes and many oppose same. Steven Kurlander, an attorney and blogger for the Huffington Post, is clearly not in favor of implementing fat taxes and refers to these taxes as really nothing more than taxes we overweight Americans really can t afford to pay ( Fat Taxes Won t Slim Down Americans , 2013 ). • 14. Essay On Henry Rifle The original Henry rifle was a sixteen shot .44 caliber rimfire, lever action, breech loading rifle patented by Benjamin Tyler Henry in 1860 after three years of design work.[1] The Henry was an improved version of the earlier Volition Repeating Rifle. The Henry used copper (later brass) rimfire cartridges with a 216 grain (14.0 gram, 0.490 ounce) bullet over 25 grains (1.6 g, 0.056 oz.) of gunpowder. Production was very small (150 to 200 a month) until middle of 1864. Nine hundred were manufactured between summer and October 1862; by 1864, production had peaked at 290 per month, bringing the total to 8,000 manufactured.[2] By the time production ended in 1866, approximately 14,000 units had been manufactured. The Cash Flow Sensitivity of Sash Research Question Does the link between financial constraints and firms demand for liquidity can help us identify whether financial constraints are an important determinant of firm behavior. Contribution Previous scholars, Fazzari, Hubbard, and Petersen, proposed that investment activities of a firm is limited by the firm s financial situation, which is called financial constraints. When firms face financial constraints, the firm s investment cash flow sensitivity is high. When a firm face no financial constraints, its investment cash flow sensitivity is low. The authors further test the intuition of our argument by investigating firms propensity to save cash out of cash inflow over the business cycle. Result The authors use two alternative method to empirically model the cash flow sensitivity of cash. The first model only include proxies: cash flow and investment opportunities. The second model is estimated from a method in which a firm s decision to change its cash holdings is modeled as a function of a number of sources and uses of funds. The result reported in table III is related to the first model. The set of constrained firms shows significantly positive sensitivities of cash to cash flow sensitivities. The sensitivity estimates for constrained firms are between 0.051 and 0.062 and are all statistically significant at better than the 1% level. The result reported in table IV is related to the second model. This finding is consistent with the view that there are systematic difference between constrained and unconstrained firms in the way they conduct their cash policies. • 17. A Study Of Microbial Theory Traditionally, the study of microbial model systems in ecology has been limited, although the advent of molecular tools such as next generation sequencing has advanced the understanding of microbial community patterns and processes. This has resulted in a growing focus on studying fundamental ecological processes such as assembly and stability on microbial communities (Fierer, Ferrenberg, Flores, et al., 2012). Because of their simplicity, microbial model systems are in contrast with the complexity of the macro ecological communities, allowing researchers to establish and test fundamental ecological mechanisms relevant to macro ecological processes (Jessup, Kassen, Forde, et al., 2004). However, the current focus of microbial ecology is on characterizing simple community properties such as alpha beta diversity, relative abundance, and phylogenetic or taxonomic overlap (Baberan, Casamayor Fierer, 2011). Here, we aim to move past species inventories and abundance data towards understanding species interactions using a network approach, allowing us to characterize the ubiquitous building blocks of pharynx community common to all subjects of our study. Like macro communities, fundamental ecological processes such as niche selection, dispersal or drift, play part in the formation and stability of the human microbiome. By using microbial communities as model systems, characterizing their ecological properties, assembly mechanisms and community dynamics, we can gain deeper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. The Properties Of Life In Plants And Plants The properties of life that plants and animals should possess include heredity and growth, homeostasis, cellular organization, metabolism and responsiveness. Merriam Webster defined the transmission of such qualities from ancestor to descendant through the genes. Therefore, heredity is the power of an organismto reach data about itself onto its young. As well, growth is included as a property of life because all living things originate and some may develop much quicker than others. Another attribute of life is homeostasis. This is when living things possess a stable internal environment regardless of any alterations in their external environment. In summation, the cellular organization is another attribute of animation where all living things are composed of cells where some have unicellular organisms and some have multicellular organisms. Furthermore, metabolism is needed to provide organisms with energy and responsiveness must do with outside environmental changes. Lastly, reproduction is not necessary for the survival of organisms, but is necessary for there to be a prolongation of life. Not only do organisms require the properties of spirit for survival but also molecules that are important for the prolongation of life. These molecules include carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids. Carbohydrates contain sugars and starches that provide and store energy for cells. • 22. The Theories Of Louis Althusser And Michel Foucault Religion is potentially one of the single most influential concepts in our history as people. Power in religion divides social groups and those groups contain a tiny portion of a ruling elite group who make use of power and control others. In social groups, individuals who are inferior or subordinate are dealt with as subjects by the ones who exert more control and are compelled to accept societal norms free willingly while those who are superior hold power. A Pentecostal church uses powerful mechanisms such as internal surveillance or panopticismto keep their believers in a well disciplined society. In this essay I look at the way power is exerted throughout the ritual at Kennedy Road Tabernacle in a Pentecostal church, demonstrating how those in power have control over the ones who are inferior or subordinate. Throughout this examination, I will use the theories of Louis Althusserand Michel Foucaultto analyze the ways in which power is exerted within the members of this community. During my observations at our visit to the Pentecostal church, there was an unequal distribution of power between the men and women in labour divisions and the tasks they were assigned in terms of the location they were in while performing the tasks. The Kennedy Road Tabernacle Pentecostal church had both a lobby and the main hall where the ritual took place. Upon entering the lobby of the church, there was a woman standing at the entrance handing out brochures and greeting people as they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Lab Report On Catalase Reactivity INTRODUCTION In this experiment, we are trying to figure out how different concentrations of substrate affect an enzyme reactivity. We are using hydrogen peroxide as the substrate and yeast as the enzyme. Based on my background knowledge, I hypothesize that if more hydrogen peroxide is added, then the seconds between a paper disk floating to the top would be lower than a lesser amount of hydrogen peroxidesolution. I thought that the more peroxide solution there was, than the more the enzymecould react. An enzyme is a type of catalyst that speeds up a reaction. In this lab we are using the enzyme called catalase. Catalase is used to break down H2O2. (hydrogen peroxide). METHODS The materials you will need are forceps, a pencil, yeast solution, hydrogen peroxide, filter paper disks, six 250 ml beakers, distilled water, paper towels, and graph paper. These concentrations below will be put into each beaker. Be sure to label each beaker. Then you will put a solution of activated yeast in a beaker. Use the forceps to dip the paper disk into the beaker, which contains the catalase enzyme. Next, use the forceps to transfer the paper disk into the bottom of the beakers with hydrogen peroxide. You will then measure how long it takes for the bubbles to carry the disk to the top of the beaker. Measure the amount of seconds it takes for the paper disk to float to the top in the data table. Repeat the steps until you have at least 3 trials for each hydrogen peroxide solution. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The break points for this highly levered capital structure consisting of 50 percent long term debt, 10 percent preferred equity, and 40 percent common equity are calculated in very much the same way as the break points from part B involving the original capital structure. • 27. Race And European Superiority During The First World War Race and European superiority were important aspects of the First World War for two main reasons. Ideas about race were developed throughout the 19th century during the scramble for Africa. The partition of Africa became one of the most prominent preoccupations of modern Europeans. Furthermore, several of the major countries at war between 1914 and 1918 possessed large colonial empires, where white Europeans ruled over Africans, Asians, and Pacific Islanders. Until recently, historians rarely mentioned the involvement of colonial troops during the First World War. It can be seen today that every country had different point of views concerning the reasons for the involvement of African troops in colonial armies but also the treatment of Africans. It is therefore important to understand how important those ideas of race and European superiority in the treatment of Africans in the colonial armies were. To answer this question, one must first understand the concept of race and European superiority in the treatment of Africans. When Europeans colonised Africaand Asia, they made sure that the native people knew that they were their leaders and that they were superior to them. However, during the First World War many Africans and Asians fought alongside the Europeans. To comprehend how important those ideas of race and European superiority in the treatment of Africans in the colonial armies, one can firstly analyse the importance of race and European superiority in France. ... Being limited by the Roman Catholic Church and government was no longer ideal, resulting in many new proposals. Of these proposals was the notion of wanting to change the Gregorian calendar to a new and non religious calendar, the Revolutionary calendar. This calendar was made strictly on reasons aimed to improve France and change previous rituals. With the new system of different months and days, the adoption of the calendar stimulated controversy between supporters of it and the opposition. Abbe Sieyes responded with this because he was a clergyman who supported the National Assembly, meaning that the new calendar could consequently result in hardships for the lower class, which went against what Sieyes fought for. Adding onto this, the people of the lower class will have a harder time with the new ten days in a week. Working nine out of ten of those days doing hard labor is vigorous work that required all of their time. A peasant at this time would hate the Revolutionary calendar because having only one day to take a break is not enough for one to fully regenerate themselves after constant weeks of labor (Document 4). • 33. Keynesian Views On Money Price Relationship Essay 2.4 Keynesian Views on Money Price Relationship Keynes accepted the classical view that increase in money supply causes rising prices or inflation only when the aggregate output corresponds to full employment and aggregate supply curve is vertical. Keynes published an article entitled How to Pay for the War in 1940, in which he developed a demand side model incorporating inflation process with temporarily rigid prices in the labor market. The primary concern of Keynes was to provide space for the necessary increase in output during war where the economy had already reached the full employment level. At full employment level, as aggregate demand increases it results in inflationary gap. This inflationary gap can be removed either by taxation or by saving in such a way that aggregate demand equals existing output (Skidelsky 2000, 84). Snowdon and Vane (2005) write Keynes, in his How to Pay for the War (1940), advocated wartime fiscal restraint. This pamphlet is described by Vines (2003, p. 343) as a marvelous piece of applied economics even if his plan was only partially adopted (Keynes believed that an alternative system of universal rationing amounted to Bolshevism ; see Skidelsky, 2000, p. 68). Keynes s analysis involved comparing aggregate demand, including war expenditures, with potential aggregate supply. Positive t statistic indicates momentum while negative sign indicates reversals. For time series momentum trading strategies, the position size of each strategy is inversely proportional to the instrument s ex ante volatility and the ex ante volatility is kept constant, so as to maintain stability of the strategy. Pass excess returns are used in the model for computing time series momentum strategy returns. Then, regression is carried out to compute alpha and evaluate abnormal return of the strategies. Happy are you, Hester, that wear the scarlet letter openly upon your bosom! Mine burns in secret! (Hawthorne 167). Dimmesdale is finally brought to his senses when he reveals his admiration for Hester s bravery in being accountable for the sin. He realizes that if he could have adopted his sin upon the scaffold as hester does seven years prior, he would be much better off. While Dimmesdale sees Hester embracing her sin, he feels that she has put herself through much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. To What Extent Is a Focus on Metaphor and Symbol Central... To what extent is a focus on metaphor and symbol central to an analysis and understanding of Douglas Dunn s poetry? (The Kaleidoscope/Sandra s Mobile/Second Opinion) It is considered more difficult for a poet to grab the attention and imagination of an audience than it is for an author. The use of metaphor and symbol in poetry means that the poet can say one thing and invoke a whole range of possibilities, be it love, anger, jealousy or envy; an old memory or a new wish. The use of metaphors and symbols enables the audience to see what they believe Dunn meant, by imaging his true meaning of a word. The three poems I have chosen to study are: The Kaleidoscope , Sandra s Mobile and Second Opinion . These are all part of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the poem, Dunn recollects and remembers the memories, however, the use of the word wait could symbolise the wait involved in grieving, finally accepting that your loved one is gone and beginning to piece your life back together. The repetition of wait in line 13, in reference to an absurd forgiveness shows us that Dunn blames himself for his Wife s death, and it symbolises the amount of guilt he is carrying, especially when combined with the line above in which Dunn begins to resort to desperation through the use of the verb offering me followed by the triad my flesh, my soul, my skin which could symbolise the ultimate sacrifice. In line 7, A symmetry of husbands, each redesigned shows the imperfections that Dunn believes he has, not even symmetry, the idea of an exactness to two halves, could stop Dunn being redesigned. It could also symbolise, through the idea of husbands, the huge workload that was placed on one man. This links with the triads placed in the poem, the idea of constant simultaneous actions, stand, and wait, and cry , foresight, prayer and hope , having to juggle the knowledge of The tray mentioned in line 1 and line 10, could symbolise the idea of slavery, to be carrying a tray, responding to every movement and request, and yet, the reader can see that Dunn does what he does out of love, he puts himself through unimaginable turmoil to prolong the time ... • 43. Odysseus Sirens Aigul Samb Professor Avra Spector Great Works November 31, 2014 The Silence of the Siren In the short story The Silence of the Sirens , Kafka rewrites the myth of how Odysseus escapes the sirens in his own distinctive way. The sirens are best known for failing to trick Homer s Odysseus with their alluring song, but there exist numerous other, occasionally conflicting, myths concerning them. This ambiguity contributed to various interpretation of physical appearance and symbolic significance of sirens ever since it was composed by Homer 2800 years ago. It is also another reason it served to be a rich material for Kafka s own brand of ambiguous and complex fiction. In Homer s work Odysseus took actions that are quite different than described by Kafka. However, in both stories Odysseus manages to escape the sirens.. The first element that s worth depicting is perhaps the most obvious: Kafka s sirens are conspicuously silent. Silence is described here as a weapon far more prevailing than song, and the Kafka adds that even if it were possible to survive exposure to the song of the sirens, their silence is something from which no man could possibly escape. The implication is that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The part of the story I really want to focus on is the second half, beginning half way through the third paragraph. As Odysseus ship passes the sirens island, he ceases to be aware of them, as he fixes his gaze on the distance . This far sightedness is usually a characteristic attributed to the sirens themselves, their muse like wisdom precluding knowledge of the present moment, and yet Kafka attributes it to ... • 44. The Use Of Technology In The Veldt By Ray Bradbury In the present day of technology virtual reality is becoming a new trend. The ability to explore places without going there for real. Ray Bradbury famous author of predictive science fiction wrote a short story on the use of technology in such a way. The Veldt by Ray Bradbury tells the story of a family of four, two kids and their parents. The story focuses on a piece of technology known as the nursey which create virtual scenery for the kids, but the parents begin to suspect something wrong is going on with it. Ray Bradbury does a fantastic job of conveying the sense of detachment of the family due to the presence of the nursey and the house s technology. The Veldt does good job of satirizing technology and its consequence on family interaction or human interaction in general. The family in The Veldt from early on are shown to be distance. In the beginning scenes, the story conveys the sense that the parents do not understand a lot about what their children are up to. Also, it seems the children do not even need their parents whatsoever. The house in the short storydoes everything the Hadley family could ever wanted and does any chores around the house for them. When the parents and children interact for the first time in the story a sense of detachment from the parents is felt through the children s act of hiding what has been going on in the nursey. Afterwards the parents admit that their children do not respect or listen them. The parents also admit they are very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Analysis Of The Episode Harley And Ivy From Batman The... The episode Harley and Ivy from Batman the Animated Series is full of interesting ideas and exciting calls to action for its audience. Poison Ivy and her adventures with Harley Quinn not only explore what it means to be a virtuous character but also question what it means to be and independent and strong woman. Ivy specifically acts as the main example of female empowerment and throughout the entire. While the author of the episode, Paul Dini, and the director of the episode, Boyd Kirkland, do not tackle the feminist goals of this episode in totally flawless ways, they still do a good job of using Poison Ivy s character to asks the audience, specifically the female audience, to encourage female friendship, fight sexism, and questions genderroles and what it means to be a virtuous and empowered woman. In this episode Harley and Ivy become partners in crime, but they also become living partners in Ivy s home, they seem to enjoy sharing the space and are seen drinking coffee together among other homey activities. In the scenes when they are home together, they both looked relaxed, comfortable, and happy with each other. Neither of them wear any of their regular villain outfits, but instead trade their crime causing fashion for big comfy t shirts. I would argue that they become romantic partners and because of this they become the perfect team. They decide to work together, they become the Queens of Crime, robbing museums and stealing money, and they become more powerful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
