U.s. Bush s Administration On Foreign Policy Over The...
Introduction (400 words)
Hook (80)
Argument (120)
This essay will critically review the understanding that G. W. Bush s administration had of
unilateralism , and it will thereafter argue that this concept was seemingly useful only in the short
term, while proving to be unfavourable and hindering in advancing US national interests in the long
term.
C. Structure (200)
Firstly, the essay will look at the general definition of unilateralism and its application to US foreign
policy over the last forty years.
In defining the term, this essay will leave aside the debate between the competing concepts of
unilateralism and multilateralism, which has occupied extensive literature after the 9/11 attacks and
the following military actions.
The essay will
Definition of unilateralism (800 words)
Meaning of unilateralism
Unilateralism in american foreign policy
Was Bush the first one? How long it has been used for.
Unilateralism can be essentially defined as the action of a state acting alone (Brooks 2011). The term
has a wide range of applications in international relations policy, from security affairs to global
economy. When applied to foreign policy, the concept can suggest different implications.
Firstly, a unilateral action counts with a single participating state, whereas one that has three or more
coordinating states may be multilateral. The literature on this concept has concluded that the question
is ultimately not how many countries

Argumentative Essay On Anna Casino
Anna Casino
Smattered in pink and resembling more of a blog than an online casino, Anna Casino may not be a
name your familiar with. Targeted mainly towards women, for a long time Anna Casino has largely
slipped under the radar, that is until now. With an enticing Welcome Bonus and a stacked game

Anna Casino is Pretty in Pink
Given its odd name even by online casino standards, one might expect Anna Casino to deliver an off

which is something you can t put a price on.
Deposits and Banking
When it comes to online casino banking Anna Casino clearly isn t messing around, as it delivers 24

Bathed in pink and practically effortless to play, Anna Casino has come out of nowhere to become a

Gender Roles In Chrysanthemums
The short story Chrysanthemums, written by John Steinbeck in 1938, portrays the conformity to
societal gender roles of females throughout most of the nineteenth century. Many women in the 1930s
were entering the workforce where they were faced with lower wages and harsh working conditions.
Married women at the time often faced more hostility in the workplace, due to the fact that they
highlighted the image of women taking away men s jobs, and the fact that a woman s place is in the
home taking care of their children. While women were able to work, stereotypical societal roles
continued to shape the way women lived inside and outside of the workplace. In the home, the roles
included cooking, cleaning, watching the children and providing ... Show more content on

The love she wishes for herself and the peddler is a lustful, rebellious one. It serves more as a
passageway from her normal and enforced life to a life of free will and wondering. The shining of her
soul illuminates the need for Elisa to feel something that doesn t come from the reliance of her
husband whom she is tied down to. Once the peddler leaves, and Elisa sees her flower has been tossed
out onto the road, like her fantasy relationship with the peddler, and her eyes would not obey
(Steinbeck 6). While Elisa s eyes are unable to look away from her flower that was tossed away, her
soul is unable to accept the fact that she will never be able to obtain the abstract lifestyle she longs for.
With her flower symbolizing her womanhood, she is able to see but not acknowledge the fact that she
will never be able to escape the inequality of the stereotypical roles of women she if forced to live in,
as her wanted freedom will only be thrown away and soiled by men or other controlling forces.
The transformation of Elisa s clothes also serve as a symbol of her longing to escape the traditional
womanly roles she is forced to take on. At the start of the story, Elisa wears a figured print dress
almost completely covered by a big corduroy apron with four big pockets to hold the snips, the trowel,
and scratcher, the seeds, and the knife she worked with. She wore heavy leather gloves to

Work Motivation Essay
An organization is a common platform where individuals from different backgrounds come together
and work as a collective unit to achieve certain objectives and targets. An organization consists of
individuals with different specializations, educational qualifications and work experiences all working
towards a common goal. Just like how every employee have different specializations, educational
qualifications and work experiences, the employees also differ in generations called Gen X(people
born in 1965 1981), Gen Y (people born in 1982 2000) and Baby boomers(people born in 1946 1964).
All these employees need work motivation in some way or the other to perform at work place and
produce desired results.
In the due course of time there are many changes in the organizations that are taking place.
Organizational changes happen due to leadership, technical changes and also due to multiple
generations working under a single roof. By these generations working under a single roof there are
many contradictions and differences right from the value systems to how each generations see the
work. So motivating each generation to achieve their goal is a huge task even for the leading
managers.
Work motivation is described as the psychological processes that direct, energize, and maintain action
toward a job, task, role, or project (Campbell Pritchard, 1976; Kanfer, 1990). Work motivation is a set
of energetic forces that originate both within as well as beyond an individual s being,

Fire Imagery In Aeneas And Creusa
As singer Alexander Nestor Haddaway once sang, What is love? It is an enduring question, and one
that many artists have attempted to answer throughout the centuries. Today however, the focus is on
one artist (Virgil), one book (The Aeneid), and one character (Aeneas). According to Aeneas, there are
two fundamental kinds of love, passionate love and pious love. With the use of fire imagery, Virgil
makes references to these two forms of love. However, he makes it clear that they are very different
and are not to be confused with one another. A conflict occurs between these two different forms of
love which causes each to highlight the other.
With the passionate romance of Aeneas and Dido, as well as Aeneas and Creusa, Virgil uses negative

When Aeneas recounts the story of the fall of Troy, he does so tearfully, because Troy was his home.
He does, however, and the picture that follows is famous: he carries his father Anchises on his back,
he holds his son Ascanius s hand, and Creusa, his wife, lags behind. Creusa is symbolic of his
romantic past as she is lost in the fall of Troy. Anchises is the intellectual past, and Ascanius has the
potential to mold the future Rome. Ascanius even sports a holy flame on his head, a sure sign of the
Gods, convincing Anchises to leave burning Troy with the family.
Aeneas is often referred to as pious, and therefore it makes perfect sense then that Aeneas would place
his family and home at the top of the list in importance. Even though Troy is gone, Aeneas in part
finds a new Troy in Italy for his family and fellow countrymen. There was more to piety than just
religion, however. Piety was, after all, family first, then the state, and lastly Gods. As according to
Beryl Rawson, Pietas often focused on the reciprocal relationship between parents and children: they
owed each other affection and duty. Aeneas personified this, in his relationships with father Anchises
and son Ascanius.
There are several mentions of fire and flame imagery, of course. It d be absurd not to notice. However,
the most critical part is that Virgil places one above the other. With the negative fire imagery of
passionate romance, it can be inferred that Virgil thought it was

Dulse Research Paper
Move over kale, there s a new superfood in town: bacon flavored seaweed! Scientists at Oregon State
University have developed a new food item that experts are already saying could be the most nutrient
packed food to date.
When Abalone Food Becomes Human Food
According to Chris Langdon, of Oregon State University s Hatfield Marine Science Center, the bacon
flavored seaweed was originally developed to be a superfood to feed abalone. The newly announced
superfood, known as dulse, had been growing in Oregon State University s laboratories for 15 years.
When researchers fed it to abalone, they found that the resulting growth rate of the abalone was much
higher than previously expected. Despite growing interest in developing the lab grown dulse for
human consumption, the researchers had only focused on using it to ... Show more content on

Dulse is a wild seaweed, also referred to as palmaria, which grows along the Pacific and Atlantic
coastlines. It is a lucrative ocean plant, as when it is dried out it is known to have gone for up to $90
per pound. The newly developed strain of dulse created by the scientists at Oregon State University
looks similar to red algae and is translucent. It is said to somewhat resemble translucent red lettuce
and is packed with 16 percent of protein and several antioxidants when it is dried out. This particular
strain apparently takes on a very strong bacon flavor when it is fried.
Bacon Flavored Seaweed Brings Dulse to America
According to Langdon, Europeans have been using dulse in powder or flake form and adding it to
their dishes when they cook, but there hasn t been much interest in the fresh version. Dulse has been a
popular food item in Europe for many years, but across the ocean in the United States, no one has
really heard of it. Now that there is a possibility of commercializing its production in American labs,
however, this bacon flavored seaweed might just grow in popularity and overtake kale as the most

C.S. Lewis and The Chronicles of Narnia
C.S Lewis was a well renowned English author that has published many great works with his most
well received piece being, The Chronicles of Narnia. The tale takes place during the London
bombings of World War II. The solace for the four children in the novel is a magical wardrobe that
transports them to a world of mythical creatures, and connections are made between the Catholic
Church and this magical world. In, The Chronicles of Narnia, the author C.S. Lewis develops the
ongoing theme of redemption to a better life through Christianity. His life and other works is what
helped him be able to do this in such an effortless fashion.

She herself was an author and was taking a liking towards Lewis style of writing apologetics and used
this style in the book she was in the process of writing titled The Ten Commandments. Four years after
the first meeting and countless works made through the criticism and rewrites of the other, Lewis and
Davidman got a civil marriage on April 23rd, 1956. Although they were civilly married the couple
didn t find it necessary and lived apart, until Davidman suffered a fall breaking her leg. When arriving
at the hospital she was then diagnosed with an incurable cancer of the bone. Through the radiation
treatments and operations underwent by Davidman, Lewis was able to see his full love for her and he
knew he would be left a broken man without her. When she was in remission the couple had a real
Christian wedding. The couple now knowing how short life can be went on a later rather than never
honey moon, upon their arrival home a checkup for Davidman was made where it was found out her
cancer had returned and she unfortunately died the same year. Lewis, unable to handle the grief of the
loss of his wife wrote a book titled A Grief Observed. It was here where he talked about the pain he
felt without her and the instability in his faith once again. From withstanding such pain Lewis was

Essay On Rural Retrirification
SIGNFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study is important because it will guide the Government in future for making decision on
expanding rural electrification program in areas without electricity and it will also encourage private
participation in coming up with Mini Electrical Energy generation in rural areas like mini hydro, wind
and Solar. It will also serve as a reference for ensuring that the Government has proper documentation
on this area so that these positive impacts of rural electrification will be clearly supported by proper
documentation and hence this will help the Government to secure more funding from Donors to

Remote or rural regions lacking electricity supply face a lot of challenges for them to get connected to
Electricity. They may lie at a reasonable distance from national or regional electricity grids (remote
villages in the Amazon) and may have difficulties in getting connected to Electricity (far from urban
centers with a difficult terrain such as large rivers or jungles). Naturally they may suffer harsh climatic
conditions that render electrification through grid extension a perilous task . In adding to these
challenges, the rural poor areas without access to electricity either spend relatively large amounts of
their scarce financial resources on energy, or a disproportionate amount of time collecting firewood
from the jungle or also lead to depletion of natural resources.
Rural electrification can have a positive impact on social and economic development in the
households, farms and establishments . If rural areas are electrified they may lead to certain changes
or social/economic development at the village level as well as at the household level. At both levels,
these changes might involve employment, incomes, productivity and others. In the agricultural sector,
rural electrification might lead to changes in irrigated area enhancing changes in cropping intensity
and cropping pattern, which in turn leads to changes in the use of factors of

Stay In The U. S. Essay
If I had the choice on my 18th birthday if I wanted to stay in the U.S. or travel to a different country
for the rest of my life, I would choose to stay in the U.S. because I love all of the activities I can do in

the U.S., I would never be bored. This would definitely not be a hard choice for me. On the opposing
side, it would be unfortunate to never have visited the Eiffel Tower or go to Australia. Yet, I would be

invisibility, I would most likely choose invisibility. For example, if there was a game that I wanted to
play, like hide and go seek, I would always win. Let s say I was a hider, I would always just turn
invisible and no one would ever find me. Obviously, in my opinion, invisibility is the definite choice
over flight. If humans had a skeleton on the outside of our bodies, this would change our lives because
not only would we look different, but others may judge you based on how cool your skeleton looks.
Also, it would definitely be easier to break your spine as well. For example, if you were to fall of the

humans had a skeleton showing on the outside of our bodies, our lives could change in many ways. I

Tiered Reflection
The reflection this week asks us how we would differentiate instruction for writing a research paper in
our relative area of interest. Specifically speaking, the reflection asks for two specific differentiated
learning tasks. One of the activities must involve a tired activity, while the other can utilize any of the
strategies suggested in the lesson. For this particular reflection, I will focus my attention on an early
middle school level activity to differentiate on writing a research paper. To begin the lesson, I would
complete a diagnostic assessment to see the background knowledge of research writing. For the tiered
activity, I would split students into three groups the first having limited to no knowledge of research
writing, the second having some knowledge of the topic, and the third having a solid understanding of
the research writing process. Each student will receive a graphic organizer that they will use to assist
with the note taking, outlining, and thesis of their paper making this the constant among all groups. To
differentiate, group 1 or the group with the most limited knowledge will randomly pick from a pre
selected list of animals to research. This group will receive pre printed ... Show more content on

Students would receive an editing checklist and copy editing/proofreading mark list to help with
highlighting inaccuracies on other classmates papers. This group will contain a mixture of students

Additionally, group 1 and group 2 students will have an opportunity to see how group 3 students
structure their work. Lastly, students will not be paired with other students that have the same animal

Films made in the 1930 s emphasised on the monster and gore. When seen through the eyes of the

first classic Horror film in the 1930 s, which contained sound. It received financial success as well as
negative responses from critics. They saw these types of movies and had to consider whether people

Frankenstein (1931), Freaks (1932) and Island of Lost Souls (1933) were movies that caused outrage

The Curse And The Doom Of The New World
Introduction 1. Fuku means a curse or a doom of some kind; specifically the Curse and the Doom of
the New World (Diaz, 1). The significance fuku had in the Dominican history and beliefs were that the
name was placed on the people that did harm to the Dominican Republic. For example, The Admiral s
very name has become synonymous with both kinds of fuku, little and large; to say his name aloud or
even to hear it is to invite calamity on the heads of you and yours (Diaz, 1). Also, the dictator Trujillo
was considered a powerful fuku, if anyone would have utter his name in vain one would have been
kick out of sea. Fuku is believed to have been unleashed by the arrival of Europeans on Hispaniola. 2.
I think Diaz chose to convey historical facts and anecdotes in footnote form for the fact that Diaz may
assume one may know something. But just in case someone does not know it he included a brief
description. For example, when Diaz mentions the dictator Trujillo and if I don t know anything of
him, I can just look at the footnote for brief description of him. Also, I think Diaz chose this method
for the people who want to learn more about the person or thing. 3. I think the purpose of Diaz writing
this book is related to fuku. This is because the introduction is based on the word fuku and different
ways fuku is portrayed in history. Also, on the line, As I m sure you ve guessed by now, I have a fuku
story too (Diaz, 6). The line illustrates that Diaz might write a personal

Sublime In Frankenstein Essay
Most Gothic novels aim to show the sinister side of human nature. They depict the dark terrors which
lie beneath the reader s mentality. The term Gothic suggests a genre which deals with frightening and
mysterious settings by giving connotations of ghostly castles and supernatural events. The Sublime
experience as stated by the critic Longinus is, …a matter of treatment. The particular form of the
sublime experience that requires prepossessing objects is not only the form; it is simply the form in
which enthusiasm preponderates over irony [1] . The Castle of Otranto is the first Gothic novel written
by Horace Walpole in which the idea of the Sublime is presented through its physical, transcending

Edmund Burke a theorist stated in his works that, …Whatever is fitted in any sort to excite the ideas
of pain and danger; that is to say, whatever is in any sort terrible, or is conversant about terrible
objects or operates in a manner analogous to terror, is a source of the sublime [2] . The critic attempts
to assemble an authoritative definition of the sublime here. Furthermore Gothic castles were built as
symbols of systematic power; they were definite assertions of ambition that rested on the owner s
control of others. A sense of empowerment is suggested through this idea therefore indicating to the
Sublime having a dominant role in the Gothic genre. Intended to convey a disputing power, Walpole
implies images of force, hierarchy, stability and command in the novel. The Castle Of Otranto,
attempts to capture a sense of realism through its illustration of settings and characters. Burke
commented that: whatever is fitted to produce such a tension must be productive of a passion similar
to terror; and consequently must be a source of the sublime, though it should have no idea of danger
connected with it [3] . Consequently the Sublime is shown to be produced by a passion which is
closely related to terror, this is evident through the tension created by the settings and characters; a
sense of terror is illustrated. The novel was an original Gothic behind the overthrow of the Roman
Empire, therefore Gothic at the time applied to

Viktor Frankl s Man s Search For Meaning
Number 119,104: Viktor Frankl s Man s Search for Meaning
Viktor Frankl had a chance to escape the wrath of World War II, but he didn t! Instead, he chose to
stay behind so that he could be close to his parents. That choice, ultimately led him to extreme
experiences within several Nazi concentration camps, including the infamous Auschwitz. Watching
those around him suffer the same fate, the same hardships and the same pain, he noticed that they all
reacted differently. Those who had found a meaning or will to live did so, but others who had lost
everything dear to them often just gave up and died. Frankl realized that (and he often quotes
Nietzsche), He who has a why to live can bear with almost any how .
Frankl s Early Life and Parental Attachment
Viktor Frankl was born on March 26, 1905 in Vienna, the same day Beethoven died to Elsa and

On the Meaning of Life . He graduated with a doctorate in 1930 (V Frankl Institut). While in training
he had great difficulty being apart from his parents and stated in his autobiography that I was so
emotionally attached to my parental home that I suffered terrible homesickness during the first weeks

Yellow Wallpaper Influence
Wallpaper, in general, is never appealing, but usually most wallpaper does not make one go
completely crazy and lose their mind. Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the author of The Yellow Wallpaper,
created a wallpaper that did just that. The Yellow Wallpaper is a short story about a husband and wife,
who go to a summer house for the wife s depression. John, the husband, is a doctor and is responsible
for treating his wife. His treatment for her illness is to keep her cooped up in an old nursery room with
hideous yellow wallpaper. The wife, who is also the narrator of the story, slowly becomes more and
more obsessed with the wallpaper pattern as she is forced to stay in that room. The pattern, the wife
believes, is taking the shape of a woman trapped behind the wallpaper. The story ends when the wife
completely loses it and tears down the wallpaper in an effort to free the trapped woman. This causes
her husband to faint and she continues to creep around the room. Gilman s influence for this
challenging story comes mostly from her own personal background. The Yellow Wallpaper relates to

Invicta Soil Patterns
Introduction
The accidental introduction of the red imported fire ant Solenopsis invicta Buren (Hymenoptera:
Formicidae: Myrmicinae) to Alabama between 1933 and 1945 led to the eventual invasion of all of the
southeastern US. Once established, the species quickly developed a reputation for both its sting and its
ability to rapidly invade new habitats. As S. invicta expanded its range out of urban centers and into
various other habitats, concerns arose about the ability of the species to invade pristine systems and
displace native ant species. Yet, research has found that S. invicta is less of a superior competitor and
more of an opportunistic, disturbance specialist. For example, a study in southeast Texas by LeBrun et

of a road and within 150m of high densities of urban development. This indicates that the conditions
within these sites of localized disturbance allow for persistence and eventual dispersal into
undisturbed sites (Forys et al.

African Arts Midterm
Midterm essay Lingyi Liu
After studying Arts of Africa for two weeks, I have learnt a lot of African arts. It is interesting that
most of them are used at funerals to honor the death of ancestors. People use sculptures, masks,
illustration and some other tools to memorize the dead and even people from different culture have
their unique ways to honor it. Death rituals in Africa are come from the cultural beliefs, they believe
that death and life are continuous. The dead people still alive in a spirit way. Rituals in Africa ensures
the ancestor will not be disturbed and his descendant will be protected. If they fail to do this, the ghost
will remain in the world and cause some problems. The descendant will lose the asylum from their
ancestor. So, it s really important for the African to honor the dead. According to the images in the

An Analysis Of The Unknown Citizen By F. H. Auden
In the world today, society has created individuals that conform to the expected norms and those that
rebel against them. In each of the pieces selected there is a character that conforms to meet the needs
of the society. A conformist is someone who follows the rules that are given to them without any
complaints. Each of the three literary writings has a character that is considered rebellious within the
norms of society. A rebellious person is someone who does not follow the rules that are given to them.
The poem The Unknown Citizen by W. H. Auden is mainly about an unnamed man who is a
conformist, because he listens to all the rules that are made for the society. On the other hand, the
short story A P by John Updike and the play Antigone by Sophocles there is a conformist character
which enforces the rules set in place, and a rebellious character which goes against the principles of
society. Each author depicts a character to represent the conformist and rebellious individuals within
today s society.
Within the three different literary writings there is a character that acts as a conformist. W.H. Auden
created a main character in The Unknown Citizen that does not appear to want to do anything for
himself, but rather for the others within his community. In line five W.H. Auden states, for in
everything he did, he served the Greater Community (497), meaning this man is known to be a good
person because he did not just do something for himself, but for the

Oskar And The Eight Blessings Analysis
Oskar and the Eight Blessings was a short picture book originally written by Tanya and Richard
Simon. The play, however, was directed and choreographed by Marcie Shapiro. It took place on
December 8th and 9th, in the Mountain View Center of Performing Arts, and used the second stage.
The play began in Germany, a few days before Hanukkah, and ended in New York, on the first day of
Hanukkah. The first scene showed a young Jewish boy named Oskar (played by a girl) and his parents
lighting the Menorah. Right after this, their house was invaded by the Nazi s. In order to protect their
child, Oskar s parents sent him to New York to live with his aunt. Armed with only a picture of his
relative and barely any money in his pocket, Oskar boarded a ferry and arrived in America. Once
there, he received eight blessings , or people showing compassion during the holiday season.
A young actor named Naomi Shanson played Oskar, and her performance was incredible. The play did
not have many lines; instead, it had a lot of background music. Due to this, everyone in the cast,
especially the main character, had to be extra expressive. Naomi did this amazingly; she conveyed
intense feelings of sadness, wonder, relief and nervousness clearly, while barely speaking. Something
that really struck me was how she used her entire body to show emotion. For example, she swung her
arms, skipped and tilted her head side to side to show excitement when it snowed. In another scene,
Naomi had just been given a

I Am Getting Ahead Of Myself
I am getting ahead of myself. I should start from the very beginning about two years ago. There was
me and my three best friends in the entire world Sam and Kat and Jo. We had a group of friends,
which we called the group. The only thing you need to know about the group is that: 1. We were
separated into the guys and us the girls, and 2. Is that we did everything together. Our favorite activity
included sleepovers and playing monster pong, our version of beer pong without the alcohol.

Maybe it just me, but everybody seemed to secretly dislike her personality. Probably because she
would always make us feel like crap by putting us down. Then there was me. I am a mix of all their
personalities mixed. I am very outgoing. I procrastinate like the due date is in three years. I am very
sensitive; although, I would never admit it to anybody. I try my very hardest to be nice to everybody,
but sometimes my temper gets the best of me. We had the best summer this past year year. All four of
us basically lived at each other s houses. We were at the pool almost every day, and if we were not at
the pool we were lying in bed watching movies. This was the happiest I had ever been. We were all
just genuinely happy. Towards the end of the summer, Kat, Sam and I were hanging out a lot more and
starting to keep our distance from Jo. Once school started the three of us really started hanging out a

Orion Controls Case Essay
Orion Controls Case
Executive Summary
Faced with the challenge of continuing to remain the leader in industrial valve systems, Orion
Controls is required to decide whether or not to carry out product improvement redesigns. A
successful redesign will secure the company an initial level of sales of 50 or 90 units to two new
customers followed by the benefits of enjoying an innovator s reputation.
An expected profit of $262,900 resulting from a product redesign given the information available with
Orion and current commitments, the company is advised to carry out the redesign and sell to Avion
Chemicals and Kemikal. Orion can make a profit of up to $655,000 if successful in achieving
dramatic changes in its existing model SV44A 10 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Break even Analysis:
Currently, Orion produces the valve at a cost of $8,000 per unit and sells each unit for $10,000;
resulting in a 25% mark up. Orion has agreed to sell the modestly improved valve for $12,000 per unit
when the variable costs alone are $10,500; $8000 per unit manufacturing costs and $2,500 per unit
comprehensive test procedure costs. Orion has decreased its profit margin to 14% without even
considering fixed costs. If the short cut approach works, fixed costs would be $200,000, and Orion
needs to sell 133.33 units to breakeven. If the software design takes eight months, fixed cost could be
as high as $440,000 and Orion would need to sell 293.33 units to breakeven. However, with a
dramatically improved valve and fixed costs of $200,000 Orion will breakeven after selling 20 units
and with fixed costs of $440,000, Orion will breakeven at 46.3 units.
Risk Analysis:
o There is only a 10% chance the entire project will fail; therefore, Orion should take the risk in
developing the product. o Orion regularly takes calculated risks to improve profits. One of Orion s
biggest risks involves the software development. Using a short cut approach and developing the
software within three months, the software development phase of the project has a 75% chance of
being completed at a cost of $120,000. However, if they are unsuccessful, it will cost Orion three
times as much, i.e., $360,000

Legal Issues Surrounding Emergency Service Agencies
Introduction The Emergency Services organizations in the United States are complex and challenging
group s that are a required necessity of all communities, based on law. The fire service part of the
emergency services have been around over two hundred years and has been the backbone of many
emergency service agencies on how the culture is built and how everyday actions are completed
within the emergency services, there has been cultural ambivalence within the Emergency Service on
how to deal with employees, with the current laws and regulations. Many of the employment issues
within the emergency services have been due to the increase in members of the emergency services
pushing back on the old cultural practices of the agencies or governments who govern the emergency
service agencies. It is evident that in some incidents that the politics and old traditional cultures have
made issues of diversity, leadership issues and equal rights issues. There is growing professional
literary evidence that acknowledges the legal issues surrounding emergency service agencies (Rielage,
2008). Each and every level of government should have regulatory compliance rules and general
employment rules that all members of the organization must follow. Additionally, these rules must fall
within the Constitution and Civil Rights of each and all personnel involved in the organizations. Many
emergency service agencies are run as a separate part of a government agency and thus many times

Accounting Minefields Essay
Tread Lightly through These Accounting Minefields
Tremendous pressure is placed upon accountants and executives to provide favorable financial
conditions of their organization (Sherman Young, 2001). As such, accounting practices are continually
a source of question and concern for many organizations in reporting profits and corporate financial
information to shareholders, stock markets, and government filings. Hence, the role of the ethical
accountant and executives becomes crucial to the continued success and operation of the organization.
Consequently, pitfalls or minefields of questionable accounting practices must be avoided.
Said pitfalls include revenue measurement and recognition, provisions for uncertain future costs, asset
valuation, derivatives, related party transactions, and information utilized in bench marking
performance (Sherman Young, 2001). While impossible to fully eradicate the occurrence of
questionable, unethical or illegal accounting practices regarding accounting minefields, organizations
must implement procedures, controls, and culture to minimize the potential of such practices occurring
within their establishments.
Revenue Measurement and Recognition Revenue is an increase in a business equity resulting from the
sale of products or services (Warren, Reeve Duchac, 2012). As such, organizations should recognize
revenue upon the completion of transactions resulting in the earning of said revenue allowing for its
recognition within

just across the bay is the less fashionable of the two, though this is a most superficial tag to express the

distinction between the classes is their source of transportation. The people of West Egg drive the

Willa Cather s Neighbour Rosicky
After reading Willa Cather s Neighbour Rosicky story, one can see that there are puritan,
transcendental, regionalism, naturalism and realism characteristics in the story (1863). Cather was able
to identify Rosicky s puritan characteristics when describing his mental and physical toughness. The
transcendental characteristic is shown when Rosicky becomes a resident of New York, which becomes
as natural as walking the busy, noisy streets. In contrast, it can also be unnatural when the streets are
empty or when the nostalgia of the city wears off (Cather 1871). The regionalism characteristics are
illustrated throughout the story as it relates to the specific places and people being impacted.
Naturalism is discussed in the extreme situations that Rosicky experiences throughout his life. In one
perspective, the story follows the motivational theory in psychology that argues that while people aim
to meet basic needs, they seek to meet successively higher needs in the form of a pyramid (Maslow).
The focus of this paper is on the realism characteristics that Cather described distinctly as the poor,
middle class and ordinary stages of Rosicky s life. Rosicky was poor in many ways. He lost his
mother as a young boy and was forced to live with his grandparents in the country (Cather 1871). He
believed his life would get the better. When he was eighteen, he moved to London to live with his
cousin (Cather 1874). Fortune did not follow him to London, since his cousin had moved to

One of the first obstacles Krakauer and his team have to face is the Khumbu Icefall. The Icefall is an
area of huge ice blocks called seracs, some as big office buildings. Climbing through the icefall is
extremely dangerous and can cost a climber their life. Krakauer writes The Icefall was a different
story. No parts of the South Col route was feared more by climbers. This was the infamous Khumbu
Icefall, the most technically demanding section on the entire route (79). Krakauer also describes the
Icefall as a game of Russian Roulette. Russian Roulette is a game where one puts a bullet in a
revolver, put the gun at their head and pulls the trigger. It is a very deadly game and survival is not
guaranteed. Another example of Krakauer having to face his fears is on his way down to base camp
four. At this point he has run out of oxygen again and moving forward is a slow processes. There is
only one obstacle between him and the tents, descending on an incline of hard glassy ice with no rope.
Krakauer states There was no margin for error. Worried about making a critical blunder, I sat down to
marshal my energy before descending further (201). After resting for a while at the top of the ice
Krakauer is able to make it down. Fear got in Krakauer s way but never stopped

Traditional Marital Customs Still Play Essay
Introduction
Family has long been treated as the basic unit in Chinese society. Traditional marital customs still play
a pivotal role in people s common life, especially in their own marriage practices. The majority of
Chinese people follow the basic ancient marital principle: a man or woman should get married upon
coming of age. In contemporary Chinese society, when young people coming to the age of marriage,
parents, realities and other significant others usually push them to take their heterosexual boyfriend or
girlfriend back home (Lee, 2013). Their pressure has been exacerbated becasue most of the family
have only one kid due to the Chinese one child policy. Parents almost focus all their attention on the
success of career and marriage of their only child. British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) news had
reported that in order to release the pressure from families, some single young people are resorting to
renting fake boyfriends or girlfriends and come back to their home to appease their parents and
significant others on some important holidays (Hatton, 2013). Obviously, the homosexual individuals
suffered more pressures from family and society. Traditional cultural values exert much influence
upon young people s mentality and make them struggle between their sexual identities and
expectations from the outside environment. In particular, parental attitudes toward marriage and
participants endorsements of filial piety values (Hu Wang, 2013). In order to survive

Analysis Of The Star Spangled Banner
As our national anthem, the Star Spangled Banner is more than familiar to us Americans. For most of
the times, we feel a sense of patriotism when the tune rises. Usually, our society confirms that the
lyrics of the national anthem promote a sense of praise to our nation. This makes people rarely
examine what other messages our national anthem wants to pass to us. However, Jimi Hendrix, the
renowned rock guitarist from the late 1960s, interpreted our national anthem in a very different
perspective. He used different sound effects and crafted special emphasis throughout his recreation of
the song in the Woodstock music festival for one purpose celebrating the freedom of expression in this
country. The presentation of optimistic and pessimistic viewpoints throughout the performance
signifies the listeners the praise to the freedom of expression in America the spirit which enables us to
grow from our struggles. As American citizens, we have the lyrics of the Star Spangled Banner at our
fingertips. However, most of us never think about what these words stand for. Usually, we generalize
the entire song to symbolize American patriotism with the often positive sounding accompaniment.
Nevertheless, Jimi Hendrix s recreation of the Star Spangled Banner, is pressuring his audiences to
closely examine the lyrics of the Star Spangled Banner.
A very special structural characteristic of this song, as you might not have noticed before, is that it
constantly asks questions. For example,

Mont Pelee Volcano Analysis
I chose the eruption of Mont Pelee in Martinique in 1902, to discuss this week. This volcano is a
stratovolcano that began to release pyroclastic flows in the early months of 1902, shortly after the
eruptions began it was evident that a larger eruption was imminent. In preparation for this eruption,
the town of about 25,000 people began to evacuate in groups of about 300 a day to a nearby town
called St. Pierre. On 5 May, a larger eruption occurred which caused further anxiety, but the Governor
of the area was concerned with an upcoming election on 10 May, so he used his power to prevent
people from leaving the area, which resulted in everyone left in the town (Abbott.) The VEI of the
eruption is assessed to be a VEI of 4. In the case of this

The Five Best Free Password Management Tools
When it comes to securing your online activities, a password is one of the best tools you have. The
creation of a strong password is one of the first tips security experts give to organisations but how will
you keep track of the different password?
Cloud based solutions have become popular and organisations are taking their documents online. But
when you subscribe to a virtual data room such as Drooms, you must ensure the password you choose
to use is complex enough to add that extra layer of security to your storage. However, the problem of
complex passwords is that they can be difficult to remember and writing them down is obviously not a
safe option. In addition, your virtual data room ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

authentication. The tool audits your passwords to ensure you aren t using duplicates and alerts you to
password changes to ensure you strengthen your password use. The manager s free version is suitable
for most but you can also consider the premium version if you need multi device synchronisation.
LogMeOnce Password Management Suite Premium
If you don t like the idea of having to remember even a single password, the LogMeOnce Password
Management Suite Premium might be the tool you are looking for. You will just need a smartphone to
use the tool and remember the different password logins you have. Otherwise, it s similar to LastPass
in reliability and security you can even opt for a paid edition.
1U Password Manager
The authentication with 1U Password manager is another smooth journey to take. The tool uses
biometric identification instead of a master password. You will rely on face recognition and the
technology actually works surprisingly well. However, the strength of the password generated by the
tool is not quite the same standard as with the above two tools. Nonetheless, it s a convenient tool to
consider.
Dashlane
Dashlane is a solid rival for LastPass it comes with a one click password generator and the ability to
store notes for future reference. It provides a high level of security, with an easy to use

Erik Erikson s Theory Of Psychosocial Development Essay
Erik Erikson was born in Greman in 1902 1994, American psychoanalyst; known for psychosocial
theory of emotional development of human beings. His theory looks at the impact of parents and
society on personality development from childhood to adulthood. Erikson believes, each person has to
pass through a series of eight stages over there entire life cycle. I will look at the first 3 stages that
cover the childhood years. There are set of conflict at each stage, which allows individual to develop
each stage successfully. Each conflict can be handled in a proper means or inproper means that can
prevent progression for the indivdual to the next stage of there development.
Erik Erikson (1950, 1963) proposed a psychoanalytic theory of psychosocial development comprising
eight stages from infancy to adulthood. During each stage, the person experiences a psychosocial
crisis which could have a positive or negative outcome for personality He s ideas were greatly
influenced by development Frued. Freud s theory regarding the structure and detail map of
personality. Erikson was an ego psychologist. He emphasized the role of culture and society and the
conflicts that can take place within the ego itself, whereas Freud emphasized the conflict between who
you are or the superhero.

Eleanor s Role In The Manchurian Candidate
Societal importance plays a very important role in The Manchurian Candidate, as how important you
appear is an indication of your role in society. After showing Raymond s character the scene abruptly
cuts to a long reverse tracking shot of Eleanor running towards the jet dragging her husband Johnny
behind her. By doing a longer tracking shot the camera is able to capture the entirety of Eleanor s
journey showing how she maintains control and guidance over her husband the entire time. The higher
angle of the shot places Eleanor on higher ground than her husband despite her physically smaller
stature. The angle of the shot is done at a straight angle focusing on the pair though primarily Eleanor,
exemplifying her as the more important of the two characters. The difference in size and importance
makes it appear as though Eleanor s powerful personality is what causes Johnny to shrink. By
presenting Eleanor as more important and powerful than her husband, showing that gender does not

The only other woman in the scene is a reporter whom through the use of a tracking shot is shown to
be physically forcing herself to the front of the lines. This woman is shown to be a powerful character
through the close ups of her face which display the amount of determination she holds to reach her
destination. By being the only reporter to be shown so close, this indicates a certain amount of
importance. Eleanor and this woman are shown within the scenes to be powerful people. These
women are willing to do what it takes to appear powerful but regardless of the power they hold they
are only able to gain these powers by serving the men. Eleanor serves as the controller of Johnny s
campaign and this woman serves to further Johnny s campaign as well through her articles. It is of
importance that the only two women who are shown are there to serve the

Influence Of Geo Gordon Low On Girl Scouts
I ve got something for the girls of Savannah, and all America, and all the world, and we re going to
start it tonight (Juliette). This was how the unexpected founder Juliette Low started the girl scouts.
Juliette was born Juliette Gordon Low on October 31, 1860 in Savannah, Georgia. She was the second
of six children and never had any children of her own on the contrary, she had no problem working
with children and helping them. She was deaf in both ears and had several other misfortunes in her
life, however, instead of feeling guilt ridden for herself, she went and created one of the leading scouts
in the world today (Juliette). By opening up new opportunities for young girls, Juliette Low changed
the values of her time and the way people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Juliette was just doing what she thought was right, as a result, she inspired many young girls to follow
in her footsteps. [Backenstoe] became a troop leader in East Allentown, then the craft leader at the
Mountain House day camp in Allentown and Camp Mosey Wood near White Haven, Luzerne County.
During the 1950s, Backenstoe taught leather crafts, copper enameling and ceramics to the girls.
Eventually, she was named camp director and lived at Camp Mosey Wood during the summer
(Negley). Backenstoe did all of these amazing events because it was something she wanted and was
inspired to do. This shows one of the many ways Low has influenced girls. She has influenced
Backenstoe to do what she loves and to go after her dreams. Something that she might not have done
without being in Low s scouts. Low was inspiring young girls to grow up to do whatever they pleased
to do and she was giving girls the tools they needed to do what they sat their minds to. During a time
when women were training to be housewives and mothers, Low was teaching the importance of
independent living, service to others and preparation for careers. She was able to break down the wall
that restricted women and taught girls how to succeed at any endeavor (Crichlow). She didn t care
about what girls were supposed to

  • 2. U.s. Bush s Administration On Foreign Policy Over The... Introduction (400 words) Hook (80) Argument (120) This essay will critically review the understanding that G. W. Bush s administration had of unilateralism , and it will thereafter argue that this concept was seemingly useful only in the short term, while proving to be unfavourable and hindering in advancing US national interests in the long term. C. Structure (200) Firstly, the essay will look at the general definition of unilateralism and its application to US foreign policy over the last forty years. In defining the term, this essay will leave aside the debate between the competing concepts of unilateralism and multilateralism, which has occupied extensive literature after the 9/11 attacks and the following military actions. The essay will Definition of unilateralism (800 words) Meaning of unilateralism Unilateralism in american foreign policy Was Bush the first one? How long it has been used for. Unilateralism can be essentially defined as the action of a state acting alone (Brooks 2011). The term has a wide range of applications in international relations policy, from security affairs to global economy. When applied to foreign policy, the concept can suggest different implications. Firstly, a unilateral action counts with a single participating state, whereas one that has three or more coordinating states may be multilateral. The literature on this concept has concluded that the question is ultimately not how many countries ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Gender Roles In Chrysanthemums The short story Chrysanthemums, written by John Steinbeck in 1938, portrays the conformity to societal gender roles of females throughout most of the nineteenth century. Many women in the 1930s were entering the workforce where they were faced with lower wages and harsh working conditions. Married women at the time often faced more hostility in the workplace, due to the fact that they highlighted the image of women taking away men s jobs, and the fact that a woman s place is in the home taking care of their children. While women were able to work, stereotypical societal roles continued to shape the way women lived inside and outside of the workplace. In the home, the roles included cooking, cleaning, watching the children and providing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once the peddler leaves, and Elisa sees her flower has been tossed out onto the road, like her fantasy relationship with the peddler, and her eyes would not obey (Steinbeck 6). While Elisa s eyes are unable to look away from her flower that was tossed away, her soul is unable to accept the fact that she will never be able to obtain the abstract lifestyle she longs for. With her flower symbolizing her womanhood, she is able to see but not acknowledge the fact that she will never be able to escape the inequality of the stereotypical roles of women she if forced to live in, as her wanted freedom will only be thrown away and soiled by men or other controlling forces. The transformation of Elisa s clothes also serve as a symbol of her longing to escape the traditional womanly roles she is forced to take on. • 6. Work Motivation Essay An organization is a common platform where individuals from different backgrounds come together and work as a collective unit to achieve certain objectives and targets. An organization consists of individuals with different specializations, educational qualifications and work experiences all working towards a common goal. Just like how every employee have different specializations, educational qualifications and work experiences, the employees also differ in generations called Gen X(people born in 1965 1981), Gen Y (people born in 1982 2000) and Baby boomers(people born in 1946 1964). All these employees need work motivation in some way or the other to perform at work place and produce desired results. In the due course of time there are many changes in the organizations that are taking place. Organizational changes happen due to leadership, technical changes and also due to multiple generations working under a single roof. By these generations working under a single roof there are many contradictions and differences right from the value systems to how each generations see the work. So motivating each generation to achieve their goal is a huge task even for the leading managers. Work motivation is described as the psychological processes that direct, energize, and maintain action toward a job, task, role, or project (Campbell Pritchard, 1976; Kanfer, 1990). Work motivation is a set of energetic forces that originate both within as well as beyond an individual s being, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Fire Imagery In Aeneas And Creusa As singer Alexander Nestor Haddaway once sang, What is love? It is an enduring question, and one that many artists have attempted to answer throughout the centuries. Today however, the focus is on one artist (Virgil), one book (The Aeneid), and one character (Aeneas). According to Aeneas, there are two fundamental kinds of love, passionate love and pious love. With the use of fire imagery, Virgil makes references to these two forms of love. However, he makes it clear that they are very different and are not to be confused with one another. A conflict occurs between these two different forms of love which causes each to highlight the other. With the passionate romance of Aeneas and Dido, as well as Aeneas and Creusa, Virgil uses negative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Aeneas recounts the story of the fall of Troy, he does so tearfully, because Troy was his home. He does, however, and the picture that follows is famous: he carries his father Anchises on his back, he holds his son Ascanius s hand, and Creusa, his wife, lags behind. Creusa is symbolic of his romantic past as she is lost in the fall of Troy. Anchises is the intellectual past, and Ascanius has the potential to mold the future Rome. Ascanius even sports a holy flame on his head, a sure sign of the Gods, convincing Anchises to leave burning Troy with the family. Aeneas is often referred to as pious, and therefore it makes perfect sense then that Aeneas would place his family and home at the top of the list in importance. Even though Troy is gone, Aeneas in part finds a new Troy in Italy for his family and fellow countrymen. There was more to piety than just religion, however. Piety was, after all, family first, then the state, and lastly Gods. As according to Beryl Rawson, Pietas often focused on the reciprocal relationship between parents and children: they owed each other affection and duty. Aeneas personified this, in his relationships with father Anchises and son Ascanius. There are several mentions of fire and flame imagery, of course. It d be absurd not to notice. However, the most critical part is that Virgil places one above the other. With the negative fire imagery of passionate romance, it can be inferred that Virgil thought it was ... Scientists at Oregon State University have developed a new food item that experts are already saying could be the most nutrient packed food to date. When Abalone Food Becomes Human Food According to Chris Langdon, of Oregon State University s Hatfield Marine Science Center, the bacon flavored seaweed was originally developed to be a superfood to feed abalone. The newly announced superfood, known as dulse, had been growing in Oregon State University s laboratories for 15 years. This particular strain apparently takes on a very strong bacon flavor when it is fried. Bacon Flavored Seaweed Brings Dulse to America According to Langdon, Europeans have been using dulse in powder or flake form and adding it to their dishes when they cook, but there hasn t been much interest in the fresh version. Dulse has been a popular food item in Europe for many years, but across the ocean in the United States, no one has really heard of it. They may lie at a reasonable distance from national or regional electricity grids (remote villages in the Amazon) and may have difficulties in getting connected to Electricity (far from urban centers with a difficult terrain such as large rivers or jungles). Naturally they may suffer harsh climatic conditions that render electrification through grid extension a perilous task . In adding to these challenges, the rural poor areas without access to electricity either spend relatively large amounts of their scarce financial resources on energy, or a disproportionate amount of time collecting firewood from the jungle or also lead to depletion of natural resources. Rural electrification can have a positive impact on social and economic development in the households, farms and establishments . If rural areas are electrified they may lead to certain changes or social/economic development at the village level as well as at the household level. At both levels, these changes might involve employment, incomes, productivity and others. • 12. Tiered Reflection The reflection this week asks us how we would differentiate instruction for writing a research paper in our relative area of interest. Specifically speaking, the reflection asks for two specific differentiated learning tasks. One of the activities must involve a tired activity, while the other can utilize any of the strategies suggested in the lesson. For this particular reflection, I will focus my attention on an early middle school level activity to differentiate on writing a research paper. To begin the lesson, I would complete a diagnostic assessment to see the background knowledge of research writing. For the tiered activity, I would split students into three groups the first having limited to no knowledge of research writing, the second having some knowledge of the topic, and the third having a solid understanding of the research writing process. Each student will receive a graphic organizer that they will use to assist with the note taking, outlining, and thesis of their paper making this the constant among all groups. • 15. The Curse And The Doom Of The New World Introduction 1. Fuku means a curse or a doom of some kind; specifically the Curse and the Doom of the New World (Diaz, 1). The significance fuku had in the Dominican history and beliefs were that the name was placed on the people that did harm to the Dominican Republic. For example, The Admiral s very name has become synonymous with both kinds of fuku, little and large; to say his name aloud or even to hear it is to invite calamity on the heads of you and yours (Diaz, 1). Also, the dictator Trujillo was considered a powerful fuku, if anyone would have utter his name in vain one would have been kick out of sea. Fuku is believed to have been unleashed by the arrival of Europeans on Hispaniola. 2. I think Diaz chose to convey historical facts and anecdotes in footnote form for the fact that Diaz may assume one may know something. But just in case someone does not know it he included a brief description. For example, when Diaz mentions the dictator Trujillo and if I don t know anything of him, I can just look at the footnote for brief description of him. Also, I think Diaz chose this method for the people who want to learn more about the person or thing. 3. I think the purpose of Diaz writing this book is related to fuku. This is because the introduction is based on the word fuku and different ways fuku is portrayed in history. Also, on the line, As I m sure you ve guessed by now, I have a fuku story too (Diaz, 6). The term Gothic suggests a genre which deals with frightening and mysterious settings by giving connotations of ghostly castles and supernatural events. The Sublime experience as stated by the critic Longinus is, …a matter of treatment. The particular form of the sublime experience that requires prepossessing objects is not only the form; it is simply the form in which enthusiasm preponderates over irony [1] . Edmund Burke a theorist stated in his works that, …Whatever is fitted in any sort to excite the ideas of pain and danger; that is to say, whatever is in any sort terrible, or is conversant about terrible objects or operates in a manner analogous to terror, is a source of the sublime [2] . The critic attempts to assemble an authoritative definition of the sublime here. Furthermore Gothic castles were built as symbols of systematic power; they were definite assertions of ambition that rested on the owner s control of others. A sense of empowerment is suggested through this idea therefore indicating to the Sublime having a dominant role in the Gothic genre. Intended to convey a disputing power, Walpole implies images of force, hierarchy, stability and command in the novel. The Castle Of Otranto, attempts to capture a sense of realism through its illustration of settings and characters. Burke commented that: whatever is fitted to produce such a tension must be productive of a passion similar to terror; and consequently must be a source of the sublime, though it should have no idea of danger connected with it [3] . Instead, he chose to stay behind so that he could be close to his parents. That choice, ultimately led him to extreme experiences within several Nazi concentration camps, including the infamous Auschwitz. Watching those around him suffer the same fate, the same hardships and the same pain, he noticed that they all reacted differently. Those who had found a meaning or will to live did so, but others who had lost everything dear to them often just gave up and died. Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the author of The Yellow Wallpaper, created a wallpaper that did just that. The Yellow Wallpaper is a short story about a husband and wife, who go to a summer house for the wife s depression. John, the husband, is a doctor and is responsible for treating his wife. His treatment for her illness is to keep her cooped up in an old nursery room with hideous yellow wallpaper. The wife, who is also the narrator of the story, slowly becomes more and more obsessed with the wallpaper pattern as she is forced to stay in that room. The pattern, the wife believes, is taking the shape of a woman trapped behind the wallpaper. The story ends when the wife completely loses it and tears down the wallpaper in an effort to free the trapped woman. This causes her husband to faint and she continues to creep around the room. Once established, the species quickly developed a reputation for both its sting and its ability to rapidly invade new habitats. As S. invicta expanded its range out of urban centers and into various other habitats, concerns arose about the ability of the species to invade pristine systems and displace native ant species. In each of the pieces selected there is a character that conforms to meet the needs of the society. A conformist is someone who follows the rules that are given to them without any complaints. Each of the three literary writings has a character that is considered rebellious within the norms of society. A rebellious person is someone who does not follow the rules that are given to them. The poem The Unknown Citizen by W. H. Auden is mainly about an unnamed man who is a conformist, because he listens to all the rules that are made for the society. On the other hand, the short story A P by John Updike and the play Antigone by Sophocles there is a conformist character which enforces the rules set in place, and a rebellious character which goes against the principles of society. The play, however, was directed and choreographed by Marcie Shapiro. It took place on December 8th and 9th, in the Mountain View Center of Performing Arts, and used the second stage. The play began in Germany, a few days before Hanukkah, and ended in New York, on the first day of Hanukkah. The first scene showed a young Jewish boy named Oskar (played by a girl) and his parents lighting the Menorah. Right after this, their house was invaded by the Nazi s. In order to protect their child, Oskar s parents sent him to New York to live with his aunt. Armed with only a picture of his relative and barely any money in his pocket, Oskar boarded a ferry and arrived in America. Once there, he received eight blessings , or people showing compassion during the holiday season. A young actor named Naomi Shanson played Oskar, and her performance was incredible. The play did not have many lines; instead, it had a lot of background music. Due to this, everyone in the cast, especially the main character, had to be extra expressive. Naomi did this amazingly; she conveyed intense feelings of sadness, wonder, relief and nervousness clearly, while barely speaking. Something that really struck me was how she used her entire body to show emotion. For example, she swung her arms, skipped and tilted her head side to side to show excitement when it snowed. • 39. Willa Cather s Neighbour Rosicky After reading Willa Cather s Neighbour Rosicky story, one can see that there are puritan, transcendental, regionalism, naturalism and realism characteristics in the story (1863). Cather was able to identify Rosicky s puritan characteristics when describing his mental and physical toughness. The transcendental characteristic is shown when Rosicky becomes a resident of New York, which becomes as natural as walking the busy, noisy streets. In contrast, it can also be unnatural when the streets are empty or when the nostalgia of the city wears off (Cather 1871). The regionalism characteristics are illustrated throughout the story as it relates to the specific places and people being impacted. Naturalism is discussed in the extreme situations that Rosicky experiences throughout his life. In one perspective, the story follows the motivational theory in psychology that argues that while people aim to meet basic needs, they seek to meet successively higher needs in the form of a pyramid (Maslow). The focus of this paper is on the realism characteristics that Cather described distinctly as the poor, middle class and ordinary stages of Rosicky s life. Rosicky was poor in many ways. He lost his mother as a young boy and was forced to live with his grandparents in the country (Cather 1871). He believed his life would get the better. When he was eighteen, he moved to London to live with his cousin (Cather 1874). Fortune did not follow him to London, since his cousin had moved to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Analysis Of The Star Spangled Banner As our national anthem, the Star Spangled Banner is more than familiar to us Americans. For most of the times, we feel a sense of patriotism when the tune rises. Usually, our society confirms that the lyrics of the national anthem promote a sense of praise to our nation. This makes people rarely examine what other messages our national anthem wants to pass to us. However, Jimi Hendrix, the renowned rock guitarist from the late 1960s, interpreted our national anthem in a very different perspective. He used different sound effects and crafted special emphasis throughout his recreation of the song in the Woodstock music festival for one purpose celebrating the freedom of expression in this country. The presentation of optimistic and pessimistic viewpoints throughout the performance signifies the listeners the praise to the freedom of expression in America the spirit which enables us to grow from our struggles.
