John Coffey s Defense Mechanism In The Movie
Freud s defense mechanisms are thoroughly seen and depicted well in the movie. John Coffey
demonstrates the defense mechanism of regression. Regression is when one withdraws to former and
childish like characteristics. John has childlike behaviors such as being afraid of the dark and this
intensified because of his environment at the cold prison. Another defense mechanism that is seen is
rationalization. This is portrayed in the character Paul. Rationalization is when one self justifies their
actions and usually these actions are bad. Paul rationalizes the killing of John Coffey, an innocent
man, because by law he has been convicted for murder. Although Paul knows this is untrue, he looks
to the evidence of the murder to excuse his actions of allowing Coffey to go down the green mile.

An external locus of control is the perception that something outside of one s control determines their
fate. The prisoners sentenced to death display this characteristic because they do not try to change
their fate and accept that there is nothing they can do. Paul also demonstrates an external locus of
control because he knows John s powers gave him life for a long time and he knows there is nothing
he can do about his life span. Percy displays a negative self esteem. People with a negative self esteem
tend to be judgmental and belittle on others to make themselves feel better. Percy acts this way
throughout the entire movie towards the inmates by calling them scum and other negative words.
Percy also was prejudice towards John because of his African American heritage and his height
considering Percy was a small man. Since John Coffey was an enormous African American, there is a
negative stereotype on him from the townspeople. They assume since his appearance is different, that
he was the murderer of the two little girls. A stereotype is a widely used belief about a group of
people, in this case African

The Three Steps Of Study, Prayer, And Realization
A Trinity of Being
The three steps of study, prayer, and realization are spiritual aspects of your endeavor, but all your
physical, emotional, and intellectual activities also have their share in bringing into your experience
the desired good which, in this case, is the unfoldment of your inner spiritual nature.
The Basic Ideas of Science of Mind, pg. 80
When studying the Science of Mind, we must keep in mind that there is only One: an infinite Life and
Being which is the stuff and substance of all. When we consider our relationship with Life, or our
relationship with other living beings for that matter, we are not comparing lives. Do not think in terms
of your life, their life and the life of God. The population of Earth may be numbered in the billions,
but there is only one Life. You and I are not separate individuals, but individualizations of the
universal being we call God. Likewise, when I speak of my mind, or refer to your mind, I do not wish
to suggest that there are many separate minds. There is only one universal Mind. Our use of the
infinite intelligence of Life is what we call our mind; just as our embodiment of the infinite Life is
what we consider to be our own life. There is only one infinite reality; not a spiritual universe and a
physical universe, or a multi verse of infinite possibilities. There is but one infinite universe that
encompasses all possibilities. The many are encompassed in the One; and the many aspects of one
Life are inseparable

The Success Of A Restaurant Business
Executive summary
The success of a firm depends very much on the way the personals there are performing. So the firm
have to focus on maintain proper relationship among individuals working there. In doing so, managers
need to learn about organizational behavior, why and how individuals behave in a certain situation,
and how to influence their behavior. The business I want to do in future is a restaurant business. It will
be a traditional UK restaurant with south Asian flavor. The verity of dishes from south Asia will be
combined with UK s traditional dishes. People who look for something new will be our target and the
cost of food will not be too high. Our customers will be middle class people who love food. At first I
will start small but gradually I will expand my business. And in future, I d like to own a chain of
restaurant. The aim of my business will be sufficient profit, proper management, serving food lovers at
low cost and gradually grow in a big chain of restaurants. I d like to manage my business all by
myself, which will give me sole authority but I want to use participative leadership style in managing
business. My business will demand some employees from south Asia and as I want to combine south
Asian flavor with traditional UK flavor, I will also need some UK citizens as my employees. I will
have to deal with cultural diversity and solve the various conflicts arising from them. So I need a

Breaking Bad is an award winning crime drama series created and produced by Vince Gilligan. In the
beginning of the series the main character, Walter White, teaches high school chemistry. When Walter
started feeling sick and bleeding when coughing, he decided to go to the hospital and was later
diagnosed with lung cancer. Without his friends and family s knowledge he turns to selling
crystallized methamphetamine with former student, Jesse Pinkman. He does this in order to financially
support his family in the future after he dies. Walt s drug dealer name becomes Heisenberg . In the

A situation can turn from good to violent in just a few minutes. In Season one, Walter and Jesse
experience some problems with local drug dealers. After the drug dealers find out about another
product in the market which is meth with blue coloring, they try to kill Walter and Jesse. The
encounter becomes bloody and results in the local drug dealers dying. Not only can a situation turn
violent in a few minutes, but it can take months too. For example, Gustavo Fring, also known as Gus ,
who is a drug distributor reaches out to Walter about working together and selling Walter s product.
Walter does work for him for a while but deep inside Walt thinks Gus wants him dead. This leads on
for months until Walt had enough and plans to kill him. Gus death had viewers talking for days, his
death was not only shocking, it was also gross. Violence is definitely not a missing factor of Breaking

Minds Of Killers
Inside the Minds of Killers Around the world, several new cases of serial homicides are reported every
year. (Vronsky 15). Ninety seven percent of serial murders are committed by psychopaths: someone
who lacks a conscience, feels no remorse, cares exclusively for his own pleasures and cannot
empathize with the suffering of his victims (Levin and Fox 4). The psychopathic state is not a mental
illness but is a behavioral or personality disorder (Vronsky 245). When these behavioral components
are combined with the desire to kill, an addiction is triggered and rarely broken. The psychology of a
psychopathic serial killer produces specific character traits that cannot be altered therefore
rehabilitation and imprisonment will be unsuccessful in treatment. ... Show more content on

They do not have the same morals and thought process as normal people. Psychopaths have a
diminished capacity for fear and anxiety (Vronsky 245). Serial killers are controlled and are aware of
what they are doing and know what the possible outcomes of the crimes will be (Vronsky 11). They
know what they are doing is socially disapproved of and has strong consequences but they do it
anyways to fulfill their twisted desires. Without feeling anxiety and fear, serial killers do not feel
threatened by police and repeat their crimes. Psychopathic serial killers also have a lack of empathy
for the pain of victims and a lack of remorse (Levin and Fox 4). Since they cannot empathize to the
suffering of others, they do not have guilt during and after their crimes and will repeat them. Their
objective is to satisfy themselves, not anyone else. While they are missing many characteristics,

What Are Your Struggles Essay
Struggles can come from everywhere, but the hardest ones are from within. Our weaknesses, our flaws
are the things we have to struggle with every day. I have grown up with quite a few struggles like
everyone else. My anger, fear of public speaking and trust issues set me apart of other people and
these are the struggles I cope with every day. I just have to learn how to live with those flaws and
sooner or later I will overcome them.
Anger the one thing that runs in my family. I wouldn t say I m bipolar but I can go from freezing cold
to burning fire real quick. My anger is a struggle because it prevents me from seeing someone else s
point of view also can make me selfish. It makes me think as if I m always right (which can be true).
My anger sometimes leads me on caring too much, since I put too much time and effort trying to
prove my point and trying to prove someone else wrong, even if that person doesn t ... Show more

I have trust issues, but when I giving someone everything they toss it away like nothing, something
inside of me breaks. I think what hurts the most is when I give my all to someone, through thick and
thin, there for them, I stick with them, no matter what. Then one day they just give up. They won t
even fight for me, unlike how I did. The one thing I never have done they did with no hesitation. This
is why I have trust issues, I give my 100% in everything yet that person won t even care. As if
whatever we had was never a thing? People give up too quickly but I give in so easily. Life is unfair, it
seems like I m giving everyone everything and they re just walking away with it. Sometimes giving
someone a second chance is like giving someone an extra bullet for the gun because they missed the
first time. I have had many bad experiences with friendship in the past, just don t want to struggle with
anymore, that s why I have had one true friend for the past ten years,

Preventing the export of conflict diamonds in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has large reserves of cobalt, gold, gems, copper, timber,
and uranium. However, the most valuable resource that the DRC possess is its large reserve of
diamonds. Diamonds essentially serve as a pillar to the DRC s struggling economy. Plagued by civil
unrest, the DRC is desperately trying to stabilize its economy. Their efforts have been met with stiff
resistance due to the ongoing civil war and illegal diamond trade. Not only is the DRC losing potential
revenue from the illegal mining of diamonds, but also these diamonds are being used to finance the
rebel armies. In response, the U.N. has drafted several ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The exploitations of the land began when King Leopold declared all unoccupied land owned by the
state. This move gave him exclusive rights to the lucrative trade in rubber and ivory. Soon afterwards,
private companies were formed to exploit the natural mineral wealth of the Congo. Along with the
exploitation of the land, the people were forced into slave labor. Natives were brutally forced to
collect rubber and mine for minerals. Under the agreement with King Leopold, Belgium annexed the
Congo in 1908. Under Belgian rule forced labor was gradually phased out. However, the Congo was
still perceived by the Belgian government as merely an economic investment. Very few if any
initiatives were established in order to promote the economic development of sectors important to the
welfare of the native people. The economic developments that were initiated were directly related to
the exploitation of the land. Railroads and other forms of transportation were developed in order to
increase the profits of the Belgian government. Plantations and large mining operations were formed
with native people occupying the labor pool.
Along with exploiting the Congo s natural resources, the Belgian government also established
Christian missionaries in order to civilize the natives. As a result, many Congolese citizens were
educated at the secondary level or higher. These same people would eventually protest

A Brief Note On The First Great Awakening
Woman Suffrage Denied How a changing environment can change people s perception in love, life,

opportunity created separation amongst the people. Examining the different rolls women participated
in to influence change in America. The Second Great Awakening of the 1790 s, brought change to the
New World. inspired by the economic progress and democratic spirit of the age and by the religious
optimism of the Second Great Awakening, believed that they could improve their personal lives and
society as a whole (Henretta et al, America 321). The Second Great Awakening created an
environment in which denominations came together in cooperation. Religious leaders began to
establish societies, which ministered to the nation (Henretta et al, America 252). Everyone
participating in these societies together, began to serve a larger religious purpose, uniting
communities. The Second Great Awakening prompted women to demonstrate their piety and even to
found new sects (Henretta et al, America 253). Pioneered by Mother Ann Lee, the Shakers was created
in Britain. In 1774, the all women group The Shakers moved to America. By 1820, the women group
increased in numbers. Living and operating within a male dominate environment, where gender
segregated prayer meetings still took place the women group wanted change. Since the majority of the

Disney World
Throughout the world there are so many beautiful and wonderful places to go and spend time to
explore and to relax. From going to a beach, skiing in the mountains, to luxury resorts, all and many
more would make for a great vacation. Every person may think differently and has different
expectations than others of what the best vacation destination would be. However, there is one
destination that so many has thought very highly of. This vacation spot for many is Disney World.
Disney World has been known for many years now to be a wonderful place to go young or old to have
an exciting time. Capturing so many of the scenes and characters from recent and old Disney movies
as well as adding in the thrilling rides and glamorous restaurants in castles, Disney World has truly
brought many unforgettable memories to life. Because of the unbelievable moments there is a reason it
is called one of the happiest places on earth.
In 1964, Walt Disney began to secretly buy millions of dollar s worth of central Florida (History).
Also known as D Day for Orlando, Walt announced that he planned to build a spectacular theme park.
Micky Mouse was one of the characters that got to escort some of the first visitors into the magic
Kingdom. Numerous people including celebrities took part in the celebrations (History). Disney World
has the incredible ability to turn every vacation into a once in a life time experience (Don). The
attention in detail that Walt put into the park makes it seem almost magical to many. An example of
the details of Disney World would be their rides. Many parks rides can feature a ton of steel, pipes,
and fences (Albert). Disney makes their rides have a good theme along the way and one can hardly see
any sight of backstage stairs up the roller coaster or fences around the ride (Albert). Everywhere
someone would look not only on the rides there will be pleasing to the eye, funny or fits in with the
theme of the land (Albert).
Still, one can never forget the work it takes everyday to keep Disney World up and going. The Cast
Members treat every guest equally and fairly like they are honored visitors. They are always helpful

1. Identify the protagonist, and define the kinds of conflict that make up the plot.
The protagonist of the story is the narrator, and the story is written in first person. The narrator is a
lawyer who has his own business and has hired four clerks, the last being Bartleby. The narrator seems
to be indecisive, and he is a pushover when it comes to Bartleby because of something in Bartleby s
demeanor that hooks him. The reader sees events unfold through the narrator, and he becomes the
most personable character throughout the story.

Are there any verifiable reasons for his behavior? Is he a developing character (give examples to show
that he is or is not)?
Bartleby is a static character because although initially he is a studious copyist who does his job
diligently and produces lengthy, completed copies, at that time, he is still passive and prefers not to do
the tasks the lawyer asks. When Bartleby tells the lawyer he had permanently given up copying,
indicating an epiphany and change of mind, it does not change who is as a character because he still is
passive and refuses to talk much or explain himself. In the beginning, when the lawyer requests that
Bartleby examine a small paper, he responds with, I would prefer not to. In the middle of the story,
when the lawyer asks Bartleby to leave the premises or make himself useful, Bartleby again responds
with, I would prefer not to quit you, still displaying his passivity. Finally, this passivity leads to his
death as he refuses to eat at the prison even though the grub man shows him a special preference. 4.
How does the lawyer feel about Bartleby at the various stages of his story? Are his feelings clear to
him? How do you feel about Bartleby as the story develops? Can you say for certain why he does
what he does (or does not do what he does not)?
The lawyer changes his opinions on Bartleby as the story develops, never coming to a definitive
decision. Initially, the narrator

The Argument Of Concept Over Skill In Contemporary Art
for my dissertation, I intend to explore the argument of concept over skill in contemporary applied
arts. It is a debate that has cropped up many times in my experiences with creating contemporary art
pieces and in my jewellery practice and is an area with very little defined lines. In my essay I will
investigate contemporary artists works and how much concept or skill has impacted on their creation
of successful artworks, exploring the idea that the works could survive with either concept or skill
alone. My specific focus is the cotemporary jewellers. The word skill is very closely associated with
the idea of a physical object, a very tangible thing that we can easily understand, that to create such a
thing. requires skill, which in turn has required a degree of qualification or knowledge, patience or
time. Concept on the other hand is not equated with an object, more a deep thought out, intellectually
conceived idea that only the creator could ever truly understand and a stabile medium needs to be
poured inorder to convey these concepts. You could argue that yes an artist will always find an item or

Triple Bottom Line
Introduction
A triple bottom line model never merely quantifies an accomplishment or rather the wellbeing of a
company through its conventional monetary bottom line. However, triple bottom line similarly
measures social, ethical as well as environment performance of the company. Triple bottom line
typically is an incessant process that shall assist the company in concentrating into the performance of
a more sustainable business whereas demonstrating to local communities together with employees of
that particular firm that is not merely looking forward on profit making, but similarly a greater
common good for the company operations (Hitchcock and Willard, 2009). TBL is a sustainable model
for business that balances financial success, community participation together with ecological
sustainability. The firm which employs triple bottom line towards capturing the set significances,
processes as well as issues of the company might decrease and determine whichever harms resulting
from company s operations then create economic, social as well as environmental values of that the
company. The model typically outlines that everything is supposed to taken into account that needs of
the company s shareholders, employees, stakeholders, governments, clients, business partners, local

The Importance Of Racism In America
Throughout American history, racism has been at the forefront, driving the citizens to embrace a
lifestyle of suppression and dishonor. Flawed beliefs of white supremacy has made being non white in
America dangerous. This can been seen since colonial times, with the murder of Native Americans
and purchase and sale of Africans. This country was meant to be a beacon of hope to others, as a
wonderful place where people held the power, a place where the pursuit of happiness, liberty, and
prosperity were guaranteed. However, the birthplace of freedom and liberty for all often denies its
own citizens the right to the all too elusive American Dream, saving that luxury for those with white
heritage. When looking back at the injustice done to thousands of people, one can see the huge role
racism has played in the shaping and making of The New World.
White America has been oblivious to the reality of racism in the United States. The backbone of the
culture is rooted in racism and as such, has contributed to resentment and hostility between white and
non white Americans. Tim Wise, an antiracist essayist, author and educator, discusses this in his article
White Denial: America s Persistent and Increasingly Dangerous Pastime . In this article Wise
discusses how white America has been constant throughout history in saying that racism isn t a
problem in the country. However, since white citizens are not subjected to racism and therefore do not
understand the plight of black citizens,

Water Privatization Essay
Water is just as important as air, it is a basic need for life, ever since the beginning when one is
searching for life, water is the ïŹrst thing to look for, without water there is no life. Everyone deserves
to have access to water.
Yet 1/8th of the worlds population doesn t have access to safe and clean drinking water. Most of these
people are from the developing parts of the world, this translates into 884 million people without safe
and clean drinking water, thats equivalent to the size of north and south America. Over the course of
the year 1.5 million people die each year from water related causes. Poor countries have been told that

However, when the company took over their local wells and informal pumps as well as the system
infrastructure, many consumers were priced out of the market, unable to pay the increased water rates,
which in some case had doubled. To further develop this, the world bank forced Cochabamba and El
Alto s water to be privatised because they said if they didn t, they will cut off Bolivia s water
development loans completely. This explains that once water services are privatised, very little can be
done to ensure that the company will work in the best interest of the
community. Furthermore, if a community is dissatisïŹed with the performance of the company,
buying back the water rights is a very difïŹcult and costly proposition. Again the prime directive of the
water companies is to minimise proïŹts, not to protect consumers
Water privatisation can also have good affects on the developing parts of the world. This is because in
developing countries their public water facilities and infrastructures are not up to date, damaged
and/or not working properly. By privatising water in these underdeveloped regions, this will ensure
that their water facilities are running adequately because people are paying for it. It will also create
revenue through taxes for the government.
However, around 40% of people in the developing world are living in poverty, they are unable to
afford basic necessities as it is, by

The Confederate Flag Controversy Of Police Brutality
In modern times, the United States is bombarded with racism and discrimination. From the
confederate flag controversy to police brutality, the United States is reflecting a morbid past. Events
such as these are fueled by false understandings of race and ethnicity; leading to stereotypes. For the
Irish, Jews, and Italians, stereotypes led to severe discrimination from opportunities and isolation from
society.
Stereotypes in the past had a significant impact on the Irish people. Stereotypes such as the religion of
the Irish: Catholicism. Catholicism brought new holidays: Ash Wednesday and lent. English raised
Americans were scared of these. Leading to the names vampire and baby killer for the Irish s belief of
wine and bread to represent Jesus Christ: Transubstantiation. Then, the Irish were compared to apes
and equivalent to the blacks in the South. Irish were now seen as inferior to those of English decent.
Not only were the women unmarried, all the men were young and single. It was assumed any single
woman staying in a tenement was sleeping with all the men. Leading to names Bridget and Paddy
being derogatory for the Irish women and man. Whereas in reality, they were street smart and
independent. Traditions were twisted into stereotypes, such as the Irish s pub culture. The men would
drink before and after work in order to relax themselves for the day, but was depicted as alcoholism.

The Environment Of An Organization
Introduction
Understanding the environment that encompasses an association that is vital to the executives
accountable for the associations. There are a few reasons behind why understanding the environment
is important. First, the environment provides resources that an organization needs in order to create
goods and services. In the seventeenth century, British writer John Donne broadly noticed no man is
an island. Similarly, it is exact to say that no association is independent. As the human body must
devour oxygen, nourishment, and water, an organization needs to take in resources, such as, work,
cash, and crude materials from outside its limits. An association can t make due without the backing of
its surroundings. Second, the environment is a place of opportunities and threats for an organization.
Managers must also realize that almost any environmental movement is possible to create
opportunities for some organizations and threats for others. Officials should likewise understand that
for all intents and purposes any ecological pattern or occasion is liable to make open doors for a few
associations and dangers for others. Third, the environment forms the numerous strategic decisions
that manager s make as they try to lead their organizations to success. Nature regularly puts vital
limitations on an association s objectives, for instance, a firm that sets an objective of expanding
yearly deals by 50 percent may battle to accomplish this objective amid a financial

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien is a story of adventure and danger, and it is a prime example of a

the unlikely hero, Mr. Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit that is dragged on an adventure he doesn t wish to

something that at first Bilbo finds hard to believe because he has very low self esteem. The group
always seems to find themselves in worse, and worse problems, but they always overcome these
problems, with the help of Bilbo and some times Gandalf. Some of these problems include: getting
caught by trolls, getting captured by goblins, being attacked by large wolves called Wargs, one of the
dwarves falls into a coma from touching black water in the Mirkwood Forest, nearly dying of
starvation, being captured by large spiders and being captured by wood elves. Although this is all very

Employers often have systems that contain employee records and performance evaluations. These info

Question : (TCO B) List three organizational factors that can prevent a firm from fully realizing the
benefits of a new information system, and provide examples of each. Student Answer: You will not be
able to design new systems successfully without understanding the culture, politics, and structure of
the organization. Culture is the fundamental set of assumptions, values and ways of doing things, that
is accepted by most at the company. Parts of an org s culture can be found embedded in their
information systems. If this changes and has a negative effect on the overall culture, much resistance
will be found. For example, my employer currently doesn t monitor email usage, but if they began to
do it many would feel untrusted and would resist the change. Politics within an organization is the
head of the conflict line. So many perspectives, conflicts and compromises are given when it comes to
information systems. As people in organizations occupy different positions at various levels and with
different specialties, each has a naturally varied opinion of

The Homelessness Of Homeless Youth Essay
Homeless individuals can be easily detected in our society. They are the individuals dressed in drab
clothing asking for money, the people sleeping on park benches in the middle of the night, and the
people who we judge when they beg for money wondering why they don t get a job. They are judged
under a certain narrative that reduces the homeless individual into their current state of being
(Lancione, 2013). To understand homelessness one should not only look at the current condition of the
individuals but also look at the discourse of factors and events that led homeless individuals into their
current states. Homeless youth although hard to spot are still very much a current problem in our
society. Many youth fall in between the cracks of the system and are forced to find different ways to
produce some sort of income. There is a strong stigma involved when it comes to homeless youth and
many face dangers and a great amount of stress while living on the streets (Kidd, 2007). Many of the
homeless youth find it difficult to survive and often don t have shelter and are always hungry (Kidd,
2007). To support themselves, many homeless youth find themselves engaging in prostitution as a
means of income and survival (Kidd, 2007). It is not enough to look at the current state of homeless
youth but also important to understand the different factors that lead them to making certain decisions;
it is no ones first choice to participate in illegal work. In my paper I argue that, the

Persuasive Essay On The Electoral College
Tuesday, November seventh, the year 2000; fourteen years ago, millions upon millions of Americans
cast their ballot for either Democratic candidate Al Gore or Republican George W. Bush for the
presidency. Later in the election process the public would learn that Al Gore had won the popular vote
of the nation. Also, the public learned that despite this fact, Bush had won the majority of the electoral
votes, resulting in him becoming the next president of the United States. This event left many people
questioning the legitimacy of the system for selecting a president, the Electoral College.
The Electoral College is an organized group of electors that has been in place since the founding
fathers wrote the constitution. At this early stage in this nation s history, the United States was a fresh,
new nation with recently gained independence from the English. It was made up of 13 states which
included approximately four million people, all of whom distrusted a central government and political
parties (Kimberling). Finding a method that was both logical and accepted to elect a president was a
pressing task at hand.
One idea the founding fathers had was Congress being in charge of electing the president
(Kimberling). This however was rejected because this could lead to corruption and reflect the agenda
of the congress member instead of the will of the people ( Electoral System ). The second suggestion
was having the state legislatures each cast a vote representing their state;

Commodity Racism
I watched the first black mirror episode and then the episode 3 (episode 1 stood out the most). One of
the first things that stood out to right from the beginning was how they tried to make it a really future
type feel, these episodes were actually really hard for me to watch because of the fact that our world
could turn out to be like the episodes where no one knows the world out side of their phone. In the
first episode a few terms that stood out to me was commodity fetishism, Hyper real, and a major one
was satire.
The first term that showed the most to me was commodity fetishism which is exchange value via

distorting or exaggerating reality. pertaining to or creating a hyper reality. This was really big when
she started to look in the mirror and laugh different ways and she automatically got a response on how
people would rate her based on how her laugh and how she looked was. Another part was when her
son was on the couch playing a video game with the virtual reality headset which made the rest of the
world invisible. When his mother walked in and asked him a question he had no clue that she asked
him a question, this also relates to when they were getting tea and how everyone was on there phone
and not talking to other people they were living their world through their phone. This is probably the
most realistic term that relates the episodes to the real life today. With the invention of the virtual
reality headsets this is one thing I could see and already seeing become a reality. Another part where
you saw this in the episode was when she meet the people going to tranquility con, those people were
living in a world where they characters not living in the real world and this is something we already
see today
Satire was one of the terms that I was the most in the videos. Satire means a humorous critique this
happened a lot in the episodes where people would rate someone and whether it be a good or bad
critique they would act like they are friends and put on a fake act to look happy. This tv show is what I
feel many people fear the world is going to be like and frankly if it does turn out to be like this I don t

My appreciations to my supervisor Stuart Foster for very helpful advice during the research.
Abstract
In this essay I shall analyze Barack Obama s Inaugural Address, January, 2009 from the perspective of
various linguistic techniques. More specifically, I shall propose and focus on the idea that the
composition of the speech has an aim to create a unity of the speaker and the audience in order to
deliver the message. Moreover, the speaker maintains the atmosphere of unity throughout the speech,
so that the speech produces an effect when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

performance that aims the delivery of the message. I will focus on the structural and functional
properties of the language, the combination of which enables the speaker to achieve the goal of the
performance. In chapter 2, I will introduce the historical and cultural context in which the speech was
made. Context is defined as circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or an idea, and
in terms of which it can be fully understood (Oxford Dictionary of English, context noun). Defining
the term context as dynamic, Mey states that it is about understanding what things are for; it is also
what gives our utterance their true pragmatic meaning (41). The context is vital for analysis of any
speech, particularly made in public. I will draw attention to the historical, cultural and social
circumstances during the election campaign, which preceded the Presidential address. In subchapter
2.1, the cultural and social background of Obama will be described. During a presidential campaign,
any personal details of a candidate may be significant; they indicate the electors preferences and,
possibly, expectations. A President s address, in turn, is based on audience s expectations. That is why,
I think, this aspect should be taken into account while

Online privacy is a major problem facing many people today. The major problem is that our privacy is
being invaded and being used for other personal needs. Not only that but it is harming you in more
ways than you know. For example it could affect your social security, lost job opportunities, and
denial of insurance. Firstly, it could affect your social security in a great number of ways. According to

criminals can look through what you have been looking through and what you re doing and when can

Inoperable Brain Tumors Research Paper
Is There Treatment for Inoperable Brain Tumors? A person has a 0.55 0.7% chance of developing any
type of brain tumor in their lifetime (Mohammadi and Schroeder 1). A brain tumor is a mass of
abnormal cells located somewhere in the brain. Brain tumors can be caused by many different
disorders including Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC). Some tumors caused by this disorder are
inoperable. Inoperable brain tumors can now be treated using new advanced technology.
Technological advances provide new hope for patients who have inoperable brain tumors and TSC.
TSC is a rare genetic disorder that is the source of benign (noncancerous) tumors located in the brain,
heart, kidneys, and other organs (Mayo Clinic Staff). In most cases TSC is diagnosed early in infancy,
but in other cases it is not diagnosed for several years. In certain cases, patients have such mild signs
that the disorder will go undiagnosed. One in six thousand people have been diagnosed with TSC.
Although this is a rare disease, awareness is building and multiple TSC clinics have been built across
the country to assists those with the disorder. TSC is caused by a genetic mutation in the TSC1 or
TSC2 gene. The mutations in these genes cause several lesions in the body to appear. This is caused

Giovanni Pico Della Mirandola Essay
At a time when humanist thinkers occupied themselves with determining man s position in the world,
Giovanni Pico della Mirandola, in the 15th century Oration on the Dignity of Man, asserted that man
is master of both his dignity and destiny, and there was no limit to what scientists may achieve as long
as they glorify God in the end. World history teaches that, though scientists might begin research with
the intent of glorifying God , the rush to advance in science and technology and the fever to uncover
the wonders of nature result in hubris and the abandonment of God and the subsequent exaltation of
human beings God like properties. Scientists throughout the centuries have held differing opinions
about the limits humans should impose on science: whereas Pico della Mirandola believed science
was to be used for the glorification of God, but never for the imposition of man on God s will; Sir
Francis Bacon, writing 150 years later, believed that any scientific experimentation or means which
justified the end goal of human perfection were acceptable, even if they interfered with God s
creations. In the 21st century, ethicists and scientists from around the world propose that science
should be allowed to continue with broad moral checks; science is not inherently good or ... Show

Wisdom In Plato s Dialogue Apology
Wisdom is cement. Wisdom is used to make new pathways but is often referred to as intelligence.
However they are not the same, some who are intelligent cannot receive wisdom because they are
arrogant, but there are few that break this barrier and realize that they actually know nothing because
they are forever learning. Such as Socrates in the dialogue Apology by Plato, Plato analyzes Socrates
journey to disprove his wisdom by questioning the most respected and talented people in Athens.
Through ethos and paradox Plato reveals a respectful tone for his mentor Socrates. Socrates makes
himself more credible when he exposes his ethos to the audience. He states that he has the god of

Richard Rodriguez Real Work Essay Analysis

September 12th, 2012
Real Work by Richard Rodriguez is about a young man struggling with self confidence. He seeks to
build his self esteem by participating in real manual labor over a summer job. When Rodriguez is
offered a job working on a construction site he doesn t hesitate to say yes. His father had always told
him he could never understand the hardships of Real work , and Rodriguez felt that completing this
summer job would make his father proud of him, and in many ways consider him to be a Real man .

The father figure depicted in this story could be viewed in a few different ways. At first I thought the
authors father was kind of a stuck up, rude man, who was sour about the advantages of living a normal
life in American society. I felt that he had made his son feel like he could never do what he had down.
If a parental figure makes you feel like that, there tends to be a reaction. It could be positive or
negative. In Rodriguez s case he took what his father said, and harnessed it into a positive learning
experience. When I thought about more in depth, it became clear that Rodriguez s father wasn t
putting his son down at all. He was simply explaining to his son how different their worlds where. He
was stressing that although his son had more opportunity, and was presented with much greater
potential to be excellent, that the work he did growing up was much harder, and tough than most
people realize. His father was just making it known that in his working years he did not have many
options as to career choices. But on the other hand I can easily see why the author felt that his father
had challenged him. Much like I felt my father was challenging me. Rodriguez felt like he needed to
prove that he could perform the same task that his fathers use to do to provide for their families.
Working with you re your hands, completing messy, strenuous, sometimes painful jobs was almost a

International business has many aspects that you need to be aware of before doing business in another
country, whether you are a small business or a fortune 500 company. There are many different cultures
and ways of doing business around the world. I choose to focus in on doing business in Italy. They
have many different ways of doing things than we do here in the United States. There are certain
topics of conversation that are welcome, there are certain ways of dressing, certain ways to make a

When doing business in Italy dressing well is a priority. Italians perceive how you dress as a reflection
of your social standing and relative success, as well as your competence as a businessperson. The
dress tends to be on the formal side whether for business or for social situations. You should do your
best to make clothing choices that are both tasteful and stylish. Italians would never wear scuffed,
unshined or unfashionable shoes. Men should wear expensive sophisticated, ties and well cut dark
suits. Men often wear accessories such as cuff links, tie clips, and stylish watches. Women are advised
to dress simply and with elegance. Italian businesswomen usually wear more makeup and jewelry than
American women do. Women do not wear stockings in the summer. Both men and women use
perfumes and colognes.
When getting ready to make a deal with an Italian businessperson you should have a translator close
by because many Italians do not speak English very well. When you are selecting your negotiating
team, Italians prefer to do business with the most important people in an organization. Use business
cards that are translated into Italian on the back; make sure to included any advanced educational
degrees you hold and your full title or position. Italians like to know whether they are dealing with an
important person. Very senior Italian businesspeople have less information on their business cards. In

In the various attempts to reach that common aspiration these movements went through a series of
debates, controversies, tensions and strife which was indicative of the Protestant movement from its
inception and which brought about the Reformation. The fourth factor that necessitates a new study is
the fact that many existing analyses have been biased by the ideas and perceptions of Protestant
leaders which have distorted the perception and development of the movement. The last reason
McGrath gives for the need of a new study is the fact that Protestantism itself has changed in the last
fifty years. This study brings to the reader and to the scholar an updated version of the present day
Protestant movement, its impact in present day society and an analysis of its significance in the future
of Christianity. McGrath s Christianity s Dangerous Idea attempts to tell the story of Protestantism
from its early beginnings up to its present day form. A similar and parallel story is found in Justo
Gonzalez s The Story of Christianity in which he also gives a narrative of the origin, growth and
development of the Protestant movement from the Reformation to the present day. However, Gonzalez
not only gives an account of Protestantism but of Christianity as a whole while McGrath concentrates
his study on Protestantism alone. In addition, McGrath not only narrates but also gives a prophetic

The Impact of Malnutrition in Guatemala
Most children in Guatemala at the age of five begin to suffer from malnourishment while in other
countries such as the U.S. children suffer from obesity. In Guatemala, half of all the children under the
age of 5 suffer from chronic malnourishment. It is the largest economy in Central America and also
the most populous country in the region. Even so, many members of Guatemala remain minimally
active in the economy and live in poverty (Guatemala s government 1). Guatemala is rich in
agricultural yet they don t feed their own people.
According to the World Food Programme in 2009 Guatemala ranked 133 out of 187 countries in the
Human Development Index of 2012 (1). The HDI is a system used to rank countries on their overall
achievements economically and socially. Guatemala faces a food insecurity crisis due to droughts. The
global economic crisis has reduced exports, foreign investments, tourism revenues and access to credit
thereby increasing the government s budget deficit and unemployment. The rise in the price of
agricultural inputs has reduced the availability of subsidized fertilizers (1). Farmers are affected but
not as much as families. Due to the crisis families are restricted to the access of food. In comparison to
the United States families are less likely to face these crisis because they receive help from Welfare,
Medicaid and Medicare.

Pak Muhamad Sukma s Going Home
According to Pak Muhamad Sukma, the author of Going Home believes that education is more than
having a high paying job. It is taking the knowledge you have acquired and trying to make a change
out of it. Sukma used to think that education is the training needed to get a high paying job. Then a
protest occurred in his country, this occurrence allowed him to be awaken with new found knowledge.
The protests were about the price increase and an economic crisis, ever since that it has expanded his
relatively simplistic view of the world. Leading him to understand that education can play a major role

In the 10th grade I saw Spike Lee s biopic of Malcolm X. From that movie, I learned that Malcolm X
was one of the most influential African Americans in history, but he wasn t always like that. Before he
became an American Muslim Minister, he was a lowlife scoundrel. This all changed when he went to
prison and increased his knowledge. He acquired more knowledge, which led him to understand there
are issues that should be fixed. This led Malcolm X to help the population of African Americans
understand that supremacy and racism exist amongst them. Malcolm X believed that people should be
treated equally, and be given equal rights just like their counterparts. This influenced people to be
more aware of their environment and protest on the problems they face. Eventually, this movement
made the government guarantee that African Americans should be given the most fundamental rights.
Similar to the protest that Sukma encountered, it was all for a cause. This cause was acknowledged
because Malcolm X used his education to understand the bias differences. To a large degree,
moreover, the protest allowed people to let go of their differences and come together to fight a bigger
cause. Education allows people to spread their knowledge to others and allow them to understand the
issues they face. This connects to Sukma s idea that knowledge gives us the ability to take social

Super funds are either accumulation funds or defined funds, accumulated contribution funds are the
most common type of superannuation fund and they act as a bank account, however the benefits made
by them are not capital guaranteed which means that the benefits may be depreciated due to negative
investment returns. These are the sorts of investment risks that comes with superannuation.
Administration charges, policy fees, insurance premiums and taxes are deducted from members
account. Defined benefit funds are based off a formula using the member s final salary and the years
of their employment. This fund also holds investment risk as if the investment is too high the amount
that the employer is required to contribute to the fund can reduce and contributions may not be
needed. The Financial System Inquiry (FSI) released a recommendation stating Seek broad political
agreement for, and enshrine in legislation, the objectives of the superannuation system and report
publicly on how policy proposals are consistent with achieving these objectives over the long term .
This phrase was directed at the government with respects of them agreeing with the intent of the
superannuation system for providing income within retirement instead of relying entirely on the age
pension. However, that isn t the only objective of the superannuation system, the objectives branch off
into multiple subsidiary objectives such as

Usps Pros And Cons
Unit VI Essay In today s modern age of digital media and instant access, the United States Postal
Service (USPS) is on the verge of extinction. Being one of the oldest and most revered governmental
entities, the USPS is an institution that is lack in today s modern society. The United States Postal
Service is struggling to keep up with the times and remain relevant in the face of all of the new
technologies out there. According to the 2013 article titled Top 10 Disappearing Futures , authored by
C. Wagner, companies such as Sears and Montgomery Ward left the mail order catalog long ago. With
these companies getting away from this type of commerce, it also left the United States Postal Service
with a chunk of their existence missing with the loss cash on delivery, or COD. This opened up a door
though for privately owned businesses, such as FedEx, UPS and DHL in which they began tapping
into this type of market (Wagner, 2013). More and more companies these days offer incentives to
customers who choose paperless billing, or automatic payments. It is saving companies from having to
use paper mail and can conduct almost all of their business digitally over the internet. Most of the mail

Technology is taking over our lives in every aspect, closing doors for some but also opening them for
others. If businesses or institutions like the United States Postal Service do not continue to grow and

phones and tablet. We will continue to see the trending of more and more businesses switching or
adding a digital aspect to their companies to meet the growing needs of our impatience. The digital era

The Human Development Index Is Vast Improvement on...
The critical difference between most development models and human development index is that most
development models exclusively focus on the expansion of income while the human development
index embraces embraces the enlargement of all human choices economic, political, social and
cultural which all affect income. Comparing countries GNP (or GDP) per capita is the most common
way of assessing their level of development. This model of economic growth was based on a very
weak foundation that was not sustainable over the long term politically, economically or ethically.
Higher per capita income in a country does not always mean that its people are better off than those in
a country with lower income, because there are many aspects of human ... Show more content on

It does not replace GDP, but it adds considerably to an understanding of the real position of a society
in several aspects, it is multi dimensional.
Poverty promotes vulnerability. By focusing on improving the education, health and skills of people, it
enables people to participate in the economy because there is a more equitable distribution of income
and assets, which results in a growth process as well as a share of benefits, particularly through
employment. Basically, if a country has already built up considerable human capital then by choosing
the correct policies and frameworks that allow the exploitation of these capabilities, room for progress
is created. Income is influx, consumption that at the end of a period will leave an individual with the
same amount goods as from the beginning of that particular period, with expectations of future goods.
This definition continues to embody my theory that the development of human capabilities is a source
of income. The human development index represents the presumed link between expanding income
and expanding human choices. In terms of longevity and stability, quality and distribution of
economic growth is more important than the rate of economic growth over a short period of time. A
link between growth and human lives must be created, government spending on social services, and
fiscal policies that allow social safety nets to be created within a

Techniques In Of Mice And Men
And will there be rabbits, George? Yeah, Lennie. There ll be rabbits.
There is a certain curse attached to the most familiar lines in literature. Because we know them so
well, we tend to smile when we encounter them, and they can break the reality of the story they re
trying to tell. What stage Hamlet has not despaired of getting through To be, or not to be? in one
piece?
In John Steinbeck s novel Of Mice and Men, made into an enduringly popular movie, the lines about
the rabbits have became emblems for the whole relationship between George and Lennie the quiet
spoken farm laborer and the sweet, retarded cousin he has taken under his arm. I would not have
thought I could believe the line about the rabbits one more time, but this movie made me do it, as
Lennie asks about the farm they ll own one day, and George says, yes, it will be just as they ve
imagined it.
Lennie is played by John Malkovich and George is Gary Sinise, who also directed this film, using an
adaptation by Horton Foote. The most sincere compliment I can pay them ... Show more content on

good when Curley s wife asks him to stroke her soft brown hair. George warns him to stay clear she s

Term Limits
Living in the present and looking back at the past, we as citizens see what has worked and what can be
improved; Congress is a good example of this. Some may say that Congress is a failure and some may
be happy and proud of the way it functions and runs our country. For those who do not approve of it,
the idea is to start fresh and get new ideas, people and habits into office. With the way Congress works
today, that may not be the easiest tasks. In order to make changes in Congress, time is needed; a
significant change cannot be made over night and expect it to run smoothly. One of the ways to bring
change and settle the debate of whether or not to restart Congress is to set term limits on congressional
members. There should be term ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pork barrel spending, special interest of their own state, and how can they make themselves look good
are thing that will be on their mind at some point. Setting term limits would allow Congress to become
more of a citizen Congress because more everyday people, not just the wealthy, would be running for
office (balancedpolitics.org). New Politian s would not have time to find loop holes or exploit the
system because they would be focusing on what they need to get done in order to make their
constituents happy. One of the major benefits to term limits is the potential for new ideas rolling
through Congress, and Politian s with a more focused mind set. The founding fathers did their part of
making sure no one person is given too much power by ensuring that the United States has checks and
balances. The 22nd Amendment has contributed to the checks and balances by limiting presidents to
two terms in office. Term limits should also be in place for congressional members. This may be
another way to ensure no congressional member ever has too much power within the government.
Candidates would be running for the purpose to the serve people and not to just benefit themselves.
Term limits would also stop the political reward and power abuse within Congress, leading to
committees being assigned to individuals based on merit and their expertise to make informed
decisions. Doing all

The main product lines of the industry are carbonated soft drinks, fruit beverages, bottled water, so
called functional beverages (including energy drinks and ready to drink teas and coffees), and sport
drinks. The soft drink industry is made up of two major manufacturing systems that fall into distinct
categories: (1) flavoring syrup and concentrate manufacturing and (2) soft drink manufacturing. The
supply chain is largely dependent on the syrup producer, as this is the driver for most downstream
operations. The majority of the bottled soft drinks follow a similar product life cycle, moving from
syrup producer, to bottler, to distributor, to merchant, to final consumer. The principal raw materials
used in the beverage industry are cans and ends, glass bottles, PET bottles and caps, paper products,
sweeteners, juice, fruit, water and other ingredients. Major retailers associated with the beverage
industry include Wal Mart, Target and Kroger. In addition to retailers, beverage manufacturers also
depend on foodservice customers such as McDonald s and Taco Bell, which buy syrups for fountain
drinks. Major competitors in the manufacturing industry include Coca Cola, PepsiCo, Nestle S.A. and
Kraft Foods Inc. Refer to exhibit 1 for an analysis on key success factors and exhibits 2, 3 and 4 for

  • 2. John Coffey s Defense Mechanism In The Movie Freud s defense mechanisms are thoroughly seen and depicted well in the movie. John Coffey demonstrates the defense mechanism of regression. Regression is when one withdraws to former and childish like characteristics. John has childlike behaviors such as being afraid of the dark and this intensified because of his environment at the cold prison. Another defense mechanism that is seen is rationalization. This is portrayed in the character Paul. Rationalization is when one self justifies their actions and usually these actions are bad. Paul rationalizes the killing of John Coffey, an innocent man, because by law he has been convicted for murder. Although Paul knows this is untrue, he looks to the evidence of the murder to excuse his actions of allowing Coffey to go down the green mile. Percy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An external locus of control is the perception that something outside of one s control determines their fate. The prisoners sentenced to death display this characteristic because they do not try to change their fate and accept that there is nothing they can do. Paul also demonstrates an external locus of control because he knows John s powers gave him life for a long time and he knows there is nothing he can do about his life span. Percy displays a negative self esteem. People with a negative self esteem tend to be judgmental and belittle on others to make themselves feel better. Percy acts this way throughout the entire movie towards the inmates by calling them scum and other negative words. Percy also was prejudice towards John because of his African American heritage and his height considering Percy was a small man. Since John Coffey was an enormous African American, there is a negative stereotype on him from the townspeople. They assume since his appearance is different, that he was the murderer of the two little girls. A stereotype is a widely used belief about a group of people, in this case African ... • 3. The Three Steps Of Study, Prayer, And Realization A Trinity of Being The three steps of study, prayer, and realization are spiritual aspects of your endeavor, but all your physical, emotional, and intellectual activities also have their share in bringing into your experience the desired good which, in this case, is the unfoldment of your inner spiritual nature. The Basic Ideas of Science of Mind, pg. 80 When studying the Science of Mind, we must keep in mind that there is only One: an infinite Life and Being which is the stuff and substance of all. When we consider our relationship with Life, or our relationship with other living beings for that matter, we are not comparing lives. Do not think in terms of your life, their life and the life of God. The population of Earth may be numbered in the billions, but there is only one Life. You and I are not separate individuals, but individualizations of the universal being we call God. Likewise, when I speak of my mind, or refer to your mind, I do not wish to suggest that there are many separate minds. There is only one universal Mind. Our use of the infinite intelligence of Life is what we call our mind; just as our embodiment of the infinite Life is what we consider to be our own life. There is only one infinite reality; not a spiritual universe and a physical universe, or a multi verse of infinite possibilities. There is but one infinite universe that encompasses all possibilities. The many are encompassed in the One; and the many aspects of one Life are inseparable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Minds Of Killers Inside the Minds of Killers Around the world, several new cases of serial homicides are reported every year. (Vronsky 15). Ninety seven percent of serial murders are committed by psychopaths: someone who lacks a conscience, feels no remorse, cares exclusively for his own pleasures and cannot empathize with the suffering of his victims (Levin and Fox 4). The psychopathic state is not a mental illness but is a behavioral or personality disorder (Vronsky 245). When these behavioral components are combined with the desire to kill, an addiction is triggered and rarely broken. The psychology of a psychopathic serial killer produces specific character traits that cannot be altered therefore rehabilitation and imprisonment will be unsuccessful in treatment. ... Serial killers are controlled and are aware of what they are doing and know what the possible outcomes of the crimes will be (Vronsky 11). They know what they are doing is socially disapproved of and has strong consequences but they do it anyways to fulfill their twisted desires. Without feeling anxiety and fear, serial killers do not feel threatened by police and repeat their crimes. Psychopathic serial killers also have a lack of empathy for the pain of victims and a lack of remorse (Levin and Fox 4). Since they cannot empathize to the suffering of others, they do not have guilt during and after their crimes and will repeat them. Their objective is to satisfy themselves, not anyone else. • 7. What Are Your Struggles Essay Struggles can come from everywhere, but the hardest ones are from within. Our weaknesses, our flaws are the things we have to struggle with every day. I have grown up with quite a few struggles like everyone else. My anger, fear of public speaking and trust issues set me apart of other people and these are the struggles I cope with every day. I just have to learn how to live with those flaws and sooner or later I will overcome them. Anger the one thing that runs in my family. I wouldn t say I m bipolar but I can go from freezing cold to burning fire real quick. My anger is a struggle because it prevents me from seeing someone else s point of view also can make me selfish. It makes me think as if I m always right (which can be true). They won t even fight for me, unlike how I did. The one thing I never have done they did with no hesitation. This is why I have trust issues, I give my 100% in everything yet that person won t even care. As if whatever we had was never a thing? People give up too quickly but I give in so easily. However, the most valuable resource that the DRC possess is its large reserve of diamonds. Diamonds essentially serve as a pillar to the DRC s struggling economy. Plagued by civil unrest, the DRC is desperately trying to stabilize its economy. Their efforts have been met with stiff resistance due to the ongoing civil war and illegal diamond trade. This move gave him exclusive rights to the lucrative trade in rubber and ivory. Soon afterwards, private companies were formed to exploit the natural mineral wealth of the Congo. Along with the exploitation of the land, the people were forced into slave labor. Natives were brutally forced to collect rubber and mine for minerals. Under the agreement with King Leopold, Belgium annexed the Congo in 1908. Under Belgian rule forced labor was gradually phased out. However, the Congo was still perceived by the Belgian government as merely an economic investment. Very few if any initiatives were established in order to promote the economic development of sectors important to the welfare of the native people. The economic developments that were initiated were directly related to the exploitation of the land. Railroads and other forms of transportation were developed in order to increase the profits of the Belgian government. • 10. Descriptive Essay On Disney World Ashlyn Watkins Professor Shafer English Comp I 1113 21 July 2017 Disney World Throughout the world there are so many beautiful and wonderful places to go and spend time to explore and to relax. From going to a beach, skiing in the mountains, to luxury resorts, all and many more would make for a great vacation. Every person may think differently and has different expectations than others of what the best vacation destination would be. However, there is one destination that so many has thought very highly of. This vacation spot for many is Disney World. Disney World has been known for many years now to be a wonderful place to go young or old to have an exciting time. Capturing so many of the scenes and characters from recent and old Disney movies as well as adding in the thrilling rides and glamorous restaurants in castles, Disney World has truly brought many unforgettable memories to life. Because of the unbelievable moments there is a reason it is called one of the happiest places on earth. In 1964, Walt Disney began to secretly buy millions of dollar s worth of central Florida (History). Also known as D Day for Orlando, Walt announced that he planned to build a spectacular theme park. Micky Mouse was one of the characters that got to escort some of the first visitors into the magic Kingdom. Numerous people including celebrities took part in the celebrations (History). Disney World has the incredible ability to turn every vacation into a once in a life time experience (Don). The attention in detail that Walt put into the park makes it seem almost magical to many. An example of the details of Disney World would be their rides. Many parks rides can feature a ton of steel, pipes, and fences (Albert). Disney makes their rides have a good theme along the way and one can hardly see any sight of backstage stairs up the roller coaster or fences around the ride (Albert). Everywhere someone would look not only on the rides there will be pleasing to the eye, funny or fits in with the theme of the land (Albert). Still, one can never forget the work it takes everyday to keep Disney World up and going. The Cast Members treat every guest equally and fairly like they are honored visitors. When Bartleby tells the lawyer he had permanently given up copying, indicating an epiphany and change of mind, it does not change who is as a character because he still is passive and refuses to talk much or explain himself. In the beginning, when the lawyer requests that Bartleby examine a small paper, he responds with, I would prefer not to. In the middle of the story, when the lawyer asks Bartleby to leave the premises or make himself useful, Bartleby again responds with, I would prefer not to quit you, still displaying his passivity. Finally, this passivity leads to his death as he refuses to eat at the prison even though the grub man shows him a special preference. 4. How does the lawyer feel about Bartleby at the various stages of his story? Are his feelings clear to him? How do you feel about Bartleby as the story develops? • 13. The Argument Of Concept Over Skill In Contemporary Art for my dissertation, I intend to explore the argument of concept over skill in contemporary applied arts. It is a debate that has cropped up many times in my experiences with creating contemporary art pieces and in my jewellery practice and is an area with very little defined lines. In my essay I will investigate contemporary artists works and how much concept or skill has impacted on their creation of successful artworks, exploring the idea that the works could survive with either concept or skill alone. My specific focus is the cotemporary jewellers. The word skill is very closely associated with the idea of a physical object, a very tangible thing that we can easily understand, that to create such a thing. requires skill, which in turn has required a degree of qualification or knowledge, patience or time. Concept on the other hand is not equated with an object, more a deep thought out, intellectually conceived idea that only the creator could ever truly understand and a stabile medium needs to be poured inorder to convey these concepts. You could argue that yes an artist will always find an item or a variety of pre made objects in order to convey their concepts but it is a skill to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 15. The Importance Of Racism In America Throughout American history, racism has been at the forefront, driving the citizens to embrace a lifestyle of suppression and dishonor. Flawed beliefs of white supremacy has made being non white in America dangerous. This can been seen since colonial times, with the murder of Native Americans and purchase and sale of Africans. This country was meant to be a beacon of hope to others, as a wonderful place where people held the power, a place where the pursuit of happiness, liberty, and prosperity were guaranteed. However, the birthplace of freedom and liberty for all often denies its own citizens the right to the all too elusive American Dream, saving that luxury for those with white heritage. When looking back at the injustice done to thousands of people, one can see the huge role racism has played in the shaping and making of The New World. White America has been oblivious to the reality of racism in the United States. The backbone of the culture is rooted in racism and as such, has contributed to resentment and hostility between white and non white Americans. Tim Wise, an antiracist essayist, author and educator, discusses this in his article White Denial: America s Persistent and Increasingly Dangerous Pastime . In this article Wise discusses how white America has been constant throughout history in saying that racism isn t a problem in the country. However, since white citizens are not subjected to racism and therefore do not understand the plight of black citizens, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Water Privatization Essay Water is just as important as air, it is a basic need for life, ever since the beginning when one is searching for life, water is the ïŹrst thing to look for, without water there is no life. Everyone deserves to have access to water. Yet 1/8th of the worlds population doesn t have access to safe and clean drinking water. Most of these people are from the developing parts of the world, this translates into 884 million people without safe and clean drinking water, thats equivalent to the size of north and south America. However, when the company took over their local wells and informal pumps as well as the system infrastructure, many consumers were priced out of the market, unable to pay the increased water rates, which in some case had doubled. To further develop this, the world bank forced Cochabamba and El Alto s water to be privatised because they said if they didn t, they will cut off Bolivia s water development loans completely. This explains that once water services are privatised, very little can be done to ensure that the company will work in the best interest of the community. Furthermore, if a community is dissatisïŹed with the performance of the company, buying back the water rights is a very difïŹcult and costly proposition. Again the prime directive of the water companies is to minimise proïŹts, not to protect consumers Water privatisation can also have good affects on the developing parts of the world. This is because in developing countries their public water facilities and infrastructures are not up to date, damaged and/or not working properly. By privatising water in these underdeveloped regions, this will ensure that their water facilities are running adequately because people are paying for it. It will also create revenue through taxes for the government. However, around 40% of people in the developing world are living in poverty, they are unable to afford basic necessities as it is, by ... For the Irish, Jews, and Italians, stereotypes led to severe discrimination from opportunities and isolation from society. Stereotypes in the past had a significant impact on the Irish people. • 18. The Environment Of An Organization Introduction Understanding the environment that encompasses an association that is vital to the executives accountable for the associations. There are a few reasons behind why understanding the environment is important. First, the environment provides resources that an organization needs in order to create goods and services. In the seventeenth century, British writer John Donne broadly noticed no man is an island. Similarly, it is exact to say that no association is independent. As the human body must devour oxygen, nourishment, and water, an organization needs to take in resources, such as, work, cash, and crude materials from outside its limits. An association can t make due without the backing of its surroundings. Second, the environment is a place of opportunities and threats for an organization. Managers must also realize that almost any environmental movement is possible to create opportunities for some organizations and threats for others. Officials should likewise understand that for all intents and purposes any ecological pattern or occasion is liable to make open doors for a few associations and dangers for others. Third, the environment forms the numerous strategic decisions that manager s make as they try to lead their organizations to success. Nature regularly puts vital limitations on an association s objectives, for instance, a firm that sets an objective of expanding yearly deals by 50 percent may battle to accomplish this objective amid a financial ... • 22. The Homelessness Of Homeless Youth Essay Homeless individuals can be easily detected in our society. They are the individuals dressed in drab clothing asking for money, the people sleeping on park benches in the middle of the night, and the people who we judge when they beg for money wondering why they don t get a job. They are judged under a certain narrative that reduces the homeless individual into their current state of being (Lancione, 2013). To understand homelessness one should not only look at the current condition of the individuals but also look at the discourse of factors and events that led homeless individuals into their current states. Homeless youth although hard to spot are still very much a current problem in our society. Many youth fall in between the cracks of the system and are forced to find different ways to produce some sort of income. There is a strong stigma involved when it comes to homeless youth and many face dangers and a great amount of stress while living on the streets (Kidd, 2007). Many of the homeless youth find it difficult to survive and often don t have shelter and are always hungry (Kidd, 2007). To support themselves, many homeless youth find themselves engaging in prostitution as a means of income and survival (Kidd, 2007). It is not enough to look at the current state of homeless youth but also important to understand the different factors that lead them to making certain decisions; it is no ones first choice to participate in illegal work. Persuasive Essay On The Electoral College Tuesday, November seventh, the year 2000; fourteen years ago, millions upon millions of Americans cast their ballot for either Democratic candidate Al Gore or Republican George W. Bush for the presidency. Later in the election process the public would learn that Al Gore had won the popular vote of the nation. Also, the public learned that despite this fact, Bush had won the majority of the electoral votes, resulting in him becoming the next president of the United States. This event left many people questioning the legitimacy of the system for selecting a president, the Electoral College. The Electoral College is an organized group of electors that has been in place since the founding fathers wrote the constitution. At this early stage in this nation s history, the United States was a fresh, new nation with recently gained independence from the English. It was made up of 13 states which included approximately four million people, all of whom distrusted a central government and political parties (Kimberling). Finding a method that was both logical and accepted to elect a president was a pressing task at hand. One idea the founding fathers had was Congress being in charge of electing the president (Kimberling). This however was rejected because this could lead to corruption and reflect the agenda of the congress member instead of the will of the people ( Electoral System ). The second suggestion was having the state legislatures each cast a vote representing their state; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Context is defined as circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or an idea, and in terms of which it can be fully understood (Oxford Dictionary of English, context noun). Defining the term context as dynamic, Mey states that it is about understanding what things are for; it is also what gives our utterance their true pragmatic meaning (41). The context is vital for analysis of any speech, particularly made in public. I will draw attention to the historical, cultural and social circumstances during the election campaign, which preceded the Presidential address. In subchapter 2.1, the cultural and social background of Obama will be described. Giovanni Pico Della Mirandola Essay At a time when humanist thinkers occupied themselves with determining man s position in the world, Giovanni Pico della Mirandola, in the 15th century Oration on the Dignity of Man, asserted that man is master of both his dignity and destiny, and there was no limit to what scientists may achieve as long as they glorify God in the end. World history teaches that, though scientists might begin research with the intent of glorifying God , the rush to advance in science and technology and the fever to uncover the wonders of nature result in hubris and the abandonment of God and the subsequent exaltation of human beings God like properties. Scientists throughout the centuries have held differing opinions about the limits humans should impose on science: whereas Pico della Mirandola believed science was to be used for the glorification of God, but never for the imposition of man on God s will; Sir Francis Bacon, writing 150 years later, believed that any scientific experimentation or means which justified the end goal of human perfection were acceptable, even if they interfered with God s creations. In the various attempts to reach that common aspiration these movements went through a series of debates, controversies, tensions and strife which was indicative of the Protestant movement from its inception and which brought about the Reformation. The fourth factor that necessitates a new study is the fact that many existing analyses have been biased by the ideas and perceptions of Protestant leaders which have distorted the perception and development of the movement. The last reason McGrath gives for the need of a new study is the fact that Protestantism itself has changed in the last fifty years. This study brings to the reader and to the scholar an updated version of the present day Protestant movement, its impact in present day society and an analysis of its significance in the future of Christianity. McGrath s Christianity s Dangerous Idea attempts to tell the story of Protestantism from its early beginnings up to its present day form. A similar and parallel story is found in Justo Gonzalez s The Story of Christianity in which he also gives a narrative of the origin, growth and development of the Protestant movement from the Reformation to the present day. In Guatemala, half of all the children under the age of 5 suffer from chronic malnourishment. It is the largest economy in Central America and also the most populous country in the region. Even so, many members of Guatemala remain minimally active in the economy and live in poverty (Guatemala s government 1). Guatemala is rich in agricultural yet they don t feed their own people. According to the World Food Programme in 2009 Guatemala ranked 133 out of 187 countries in the Human Development Index of 2012 (1). The HDI is a system used to rank countries on their overall achievements economically and socially. Guatemala faces a food insecurity crisis due to droughts. The global economic crisis has reduced exports, foreign investments, tourism revenues and access to credit thereby increasing the government s budget deficit and unemployment. The rise in the price of agricultural inputs has reduced the availability of subsidized fertilizers (1). Farmers are affected but not as much as families. Due to the crisis families are restricted to the access of food. In comparison to the United States families are less likely to face these crisis because they receive help from Welfare, Medicaid and Medicare. From that movie, I learned that Malcolm X was one of the most influential African Americans in history, but he wasn t always like that. Before he became an American Muslim Minister, he was a lowlife scoundrel. This all changed when he went to prison and increased his knowledge. He acquired more knowledge, which led him to understand there are issues that should be fixed. This led Malcolm X to help the population of African Americans understand that supremacy and racism exist amongst them. Malcolm X believed that people should be treated equally, and be given equal rights just like their counterparts. This influenced people to be more aware of their environment and protest on the problems they face. Eventually, this movement made the government guarantee that African Americans should be given the most fundamental rights. Similar to the protest that Sukma encountered, it was all for a cause. This cause was acknowledged because Malcolm X used his education to understand the bias differences. To a large degree, moreover, the protest allowed people to let go of their differences and come together to fight a bigger cause. Education allows people to spread their knowledge to others and allow them to understand the issues they face. This connects to Sukma s idea that knowledge gives us the ability to take social ... By focusing on improving the education, health and skills of people, it enables people to participate in the economy because there is a more equitable distribution of income and assets, which results in a growth process as well as a share of benefits, particularly through employment. Basically, if a country has already built up considerable human capital then by choosing the correct policies and frameworks that allow the exploitation of these capabilities, room for progress is created. Income is influx, consumption that at the end of a period will leave an individual with the same amount goods as from the beginning of that particular period, with expectations of future goods.
