Use Of The Greek Word Logos
My word study will focus on the use of the Greek word logos in the opening section of the John,
namely 1:1 14. The word is used in a couple of remarkable ways in this passage, namely because it is
personified and associated with God and his creative work. Furthermore, this logos is said to take on
flesh and dwell with humans and to enlighten all of existence. We are also told that, although the vast
majority of men reject this logos in flesh, a handful do accept him. These experience transformation
and are no longer considered to be born of natural descent, but to be children of God. Greek Usage
The Greek word logos has the general meaning of word, statement, utterance, discourse, meaning,
matter or reckoning. A derivation of lego, it appears as early as the works of Homer. It began to be
used in a philosophical context in 500 B.C. by Heraclitus, who used it to express an instrument of
thought that expresses the thought itself and its conclusion. As a concept logos was used to include
any information given by the senses, and the underlying principle that related objects to each other in
a sort of universal law. However, for other philosophers the word could be used in different ways. For
instance, Parmenides used the word to express pure thought apart from the 1 senses. The Stoic
philosophers used the term in a very different way, giving it the meaning of rhetorical and
argumentative ability for an individual. By the third century the term began

Phoenix Jackson Speech
Hi I m Phoenix Jackson. Today I m making my way into town to the clinic to pick up my grandson s
medicine to sooth his throat on this freezing December morning. I live far out in the country of
Mississippi but I would do anything for my sweet grandson. He somehow swallowed lye and isn t
healing very much but the medicine from the clinic is helping him cope. As I walk down this old
rugged path on the country side my apron gets caught by a good for nothing thorn bush. There are also
many wild animals and a huge log, that I pray I can cross, that get in my way. Passing through the
cornfield I come across a scare grow that scares me half to death. When I get over the log I m so worn

Examples Of Greed In Julius Caesar
An Honorable Man : Greed vs. Honorability Honor is a word defined as worthy of high respect . In
Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, honorability is one of the driving forces of the play s central
plot. From the murder plot to the incriminating funeral speeches, honorability is lost, questioned, and
acted upon for the majority of the plot. When it comes to the question of who is the most honorable
man between Marc Antony and Marcus Brutus, the answer is not immediately clear. Through the first
two acts, as these men develop, grow, and change their ways of thinking, both men seem to be equally
valid candidates. Acts three through five are when their true colors begin to emerge, and like a
butterfly from its cocoon, their inner thoughts and motives are exposed. Then, the true answer
becomes clear: Brutus is the more honorable man. Why is this? He thinks of others before himself
when it comes to making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before he agrees to join the conspiracy against Caesar, Brutus is seen having an internal conflict with
himself over whether this would be the moral thing to do or not. He says: It must be by his death, and
for my part I know no personal cause to spurn at him But for the general. (2.1.10 12) These lines
indicate that while Brutus himself had nothing against Caesar, and had no reason to personally want to
kill him, he is doing it for the sake of the Roman people, as he believes that they are in danger of what
Caesar might become when he is crowned. Further, this shows that Brutus is a selfless man who thinks
of the sake of the public before his own personal gain. Later, when he receives the forged letters
written by Cassius to persuade him to join the conspirators, he says: Am I entreated To speak and
strike? O Rome, I make thee promise, If the redress will follow, thou receivest Thy full petition at the
hand of Brutus!

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Antidepressants Essay
Introduction
Antidepressants are used when the symptoms of a sufferer of anxiety or depression are persistent and
severe. Anxiety is the general term used to describe an array of disorders that cause intense fear,
apprehension, and distress (Cassiday, 2016). A depressive disorder is a disorder that causes persistent
sadness and loss of hope and interest in life (Malhi et al., 2015). As antidepressants tend to have side
effects whereas many other treatments do not, a sufferer of anxiety will commonly be initially treated
with cognitive behavioural therapy or other forms of talking therapy, meditation, exercise, and healthy
eating if these treatments are not effective a patient will be considered to be prescribed medication
(Cassiday, 2016). However patients that are prescribed antidepressants additionally are typically
treated with other therapies, as the combination of different remedies is almost always far more
effective than only one (Sethi, 2012).
Every medical practitioner has varying methods of prescribing medications for anxiety and
depression, however they are often similar. Initially the medical practitioner will analyse the severity
and specific symptoms of the illness to determine what general family of antidepressant to prescribe as
the severity and specific symptoms are the most important factors in determining antidepressant
prescription. Secondly, personal factors of the patient will be analysed as a person s genetics has a
great impact on prescription. Next

Chaucer’s Placement and Description of the Manciple and...
On Chaucer s Placement and Description of the Manciple and the Reeve in the General Prologue
In the general prologue of Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, the manciple and the reeve are described
one after the other. Given the proximity of characters such as the prioress, the friar and the monk to
each other, while the parson is hundred of lines away, Chaucer clearly grouped characters not only by
social standing, but by character and attitude as well. This is shown in Chaucer s placement of the
manciple and the reeve, as these two characters have similar occupations, social standing, though
these are contrasted through their urban and rural viewpoints. However, each has similar attitudes
towards their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The manciple lives and works in London, a business agent who deals not only with his clients, an
enclave of lawyers, but also with a variety of food providers on a daily basis. His is an urban lifestyle.
The reeve, on the other hand, encounters a fairly fixed group of people every day. However, these
lifestyle differences seem to have little effect on Chaucer s portrayal of the similarities between the
two characters.
The manciple and the reeve perform similar duties. Each cares for the needs of another of higher
social status more adeptly than their superiors could do for themselves. Their most basic similarity,
and the one which Chaucer highlights in most detail, is the excellence in which they perform their
labors. They are each hard working, effective, and, when compared to most of the other pilgrims on
their way to Canterbury, morally sound as well.

The reeve is charged with controlling much more than his lord s foodstuffs. Indeed, His lordes sheepe,

Essay On Gladiators
Gladiators, The celebrities of ancient Rome. Gladiators would reenact myths, legends and epic battles.
(Penelope 12). Taught to die with dignity and honor, they would kill for the enjoyment and pleasure of
the roman mob. Many of the gladiators were prisoners of war, slaves, and criminals who were forced
to fight in arenas, sometimes to the death. Although gladiators were so beloved by ancient Rome and
were an important part of the culture, life in the arena was not as desireable as it seemed because it
was centered around training, women and the games.
Training was a predominant force in the lives of those unfortunate enough to fall into the ludus

They were expected to die with dignity and honor (Alchin 2). The gladiators were taught how to not

Rap Music Analysis

and everyone. When you hear something or feel something that clicks in your brain so much that you
can remember it and turn that little echo of sound into something radically different that is
breathtaking and true art. Some people can completely make a beat into something new and something
you have never heard. These are the real artist that can warp a piece of sound into something that can

rap music they will mostly have the same emotional make up the same mindset or even an event in
their life which makes them relate to rap music. The people that relate to the same type of music I feel
like it is easier to get along with and the things you say makes sense to them. The topic of music is the
most interesting thing to me. It fascinates me as you can tell if I can write a 2,000 word paper just on
the theme of music. People that have the same relationship I do with music, I find that we become
close because I find music is one of the best ways to bring people together. I have a profound love for
music and the artists I love like Travis Scott and the ability for him and his music to make my body
get the chills down my spine. This shows how much I like his music and the great appreciation I have
for it. Everything to the new school rappers who love to make up new words and incorporated it into
their music. It is as they talk in code and the only people that understand are the people from the same
hood most of the words are different words for drugs and other stuff they do not want anyone else to

my dad usually had his work place. His computer was gone, along with all of his belongings he had in

incident. Why are you leaving me..?! Please, Chris! My mom yelled from the office, while I sat on the

The Controversiality Of Universal Health Care In The...
The concept of universal health care can be controversial because of what it entails of the people.
Having a universal health care system requires the recipients to pay a sort a tax to fund the benefits.
This can infringe on freedom of the individual since they would have no choice but to pay their tax.10
For poorer countries, providing health care can be costly while others in wealthier countries may not
wish to provide health care services and leave it to private insurers despite its benefits. This causes
numerous problems for making health care a human right as seen in Jordan. In Jordon, the government
made many improvements in health care but, there are still issues that persist. Despite not

Entrepreneurial Structure Of The Innovative...
Entrepreneurial Structure In contrast to the holistic entrepreneurial culture approach, other companies
form separate groups that work isolated from the rest of the organization to come up with disruptive
innovations. A common strategy to achieve this isolation is the skunk works model. A small group is
working full time on a project without being distracted by the company s administrative overhead.
They have a separate budget and only focus on their specific project assignment. This provides the
team freedom, autonomy, and independence to think outside of current business constraints and come
up with truly disruptive innovations (Fosfuri Rønde, 2009). Large companies with many and mature
processes are ideal for this approach. IBM for example, used this method to develop the PC (Roberts,
2004). Other companies as well, established formal support centers to provide support and budget for
dedicated teams that work as separate organizational structure. Cargill for instance, created an
Emerging Business Accelerator to fund all promising projects that could be part of any existing
department and potentially reach completely new markets. Since managers are often only incentivized
to meet short term targets, Cargill had to adjust the targets for managers accordingly (Wolcott Lippitz,
2007). Isolated groups might be seen as a potential threat by other departments as they might render
their current function obsolete (Fosfuri Rønde, 2009). It is therefore important to establish

Genide And The Rwandan Genocide
Genocides have always been present throughout history, whether it is Julius Caesar s slaughter of the
Gauls during his conquest between 58 BCE and 54 BCE or the Rwandan Genocide in the late 20th
Century. Even though they have been around for thousands of years, the term, genocide only recently
received a formal definition. In 1948, during the aftermath of World War II and the Holocaust, the
United Nations came together to establish a concrete definition for the term genocide . Their definition
stated genocide as:
acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious
group, as such:
a. Killing members of the group;
b. Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
c. Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical
destruction in whole or in part;
d. Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
e. Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
This definition is still applicable to events that occurred before its creation though, and one event in
particular definitely falls into these criteria. The Australian Aborigines disappearance is much more
than a group of people simply disappearing, it is actually a genocide spread across hundreds of years,
starting in the late 1780 s and formally being acknowledged and apologized for in 2008. This is
definitely a genocide, going by the criteria established by the UN Convention. The

Human Culture And Its Impact On The World
Introduction
Humans are one of the smartest creatures to walk on the face of the earth, and we have shaped society
in many different ways for many different cultures. From the beginning of the first civilization till
today, humans have had one common goal: how to make things better, and how to become more
efficient as well as more productive. Every revolution that took place in human history, it brought
drastic change to ways of living and of course mostly for good reasons. From the era when the wheel
was first introduced to the era when the light bulb was invented, we will agree that today s human is
by far the most advanced human in the history of mankind, and it will only get more advanced.
Business has always been a part of human culture, but overtime, doing business has become more and
more competitive. Network is crucial to business world, as doing business has become more and more
global, in order for business to stay competitive and have edge over their competitor business or any
idea has to be global. Everyday there is someone who comes out with a new idea, but most ideas don t
make it up to the level where they become part of a human life and existence. In today s world, social
media has become a part of human life and business world. Doing business anywhere in the world has
never been this easy, and staying in touch with your friends and family across the globe never felt this
close. Social networks like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and YouTube

Hippocampus Amnesia Effects
Abstract
This paper explores two published journals that report on results from research conducted on human
brain. The first journal, Parkin, Alan J (Parkin,1996) suggests that brain damaged patients such as
amnesia are related to the hippocampus and also existing memories. The second journal from Deborah
E. Hannula (Hannula, Tranel, Cohen, 2006) suggests that hippocampal amnesia results in both short
term and long term memory. Together, these findings suggest that hippocampal damage can affect the
memory.

Essay on Reader Response Criticism to God s Determinations
Reader Response Criticism to God s Determinations
For the reader demanding either rational sense or aesthetic pleasure from poetry, reading the preface to
Edward Taylor s God s Determinations is humbling in ways unintended by the 17th century Puritan
minister and poet. Rationality per se seems rejected at the start, where we are asked first to
comprehend Infinity, and then to envision it (everything) beholding all things (also everything).
Things get no clearer as we progress, as we find whatever infinity beholds in not everything but
nothing, and that nothing itself to become the building material for all. Identifying the paradox,
perhaps, as that which begins the Biblical account of the Creation, ... Show more content on

Granted, logical incoherence might not trouble the reader demanding beauty from a poem, but even
the poem s most vivid images rocks, rivers, curtains, a bright gem of some unmentioned size and color
don t offer nearly the delectable view found in a poem of Taylor s contemporary Anne Bradstreet.
Although Taylor certainly meant to humble his reader in the preface to his long poem, he certainly did
not have a modern rationalist or aesthete audience in mind when he wrote it. His intended readers
were rather his parishioners, 17th century Puritan men and women for whom poetry was more a
rhetorical than an aesthetic exercise, and for whom God s ways were understood to be inscrutable
what we might call irrational to the sons of Adam. Part of a people who left for the New World in
order to enjoy a more perfect relation with their God, now in a third generation Taylor s audience was
beginning to forget what was for an orthodox Puritan their proper place among all things. God s
Determinations was Taylor s way to remind his readers of that place.
Taylor begins his poem by limning the first verses of Genesis, but from line 3 to line 19, nearly half
the poem, he asks questions questions which amplify God s physical might and unimaginable power
while they invite readers to remind themselves of a time (before their recent lapse in faith) when they
had evinced a more proper respect for that power. In this sense, the very senselessness of Taylor s

Compare And Contrast Oprah Winfrey And El Degeneres
Oprah Winfrey and Ellen Degeneres: Comparison
Television talk shows are popular nowadays they feature celebrities, politicians, and actors. Talk
shows depend on the style of the host and how he or she interacts with the audience. The happier the
audiences are the more money the television host will make. Two of the most successful television
hosts are Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres which are the most successful women who host
television talk shows. Oprah and Ellen originate from different race, Oprah is African American and
Ellen is white American. In addition, they differ in personality and activities conducted in the show.

Manor And Feudal System Essay
The manor and feudal system during the middle ages shaped the society of Western Europe because it
both allowed protection to the serfs (peasants/ workers) from attacking tribes and barbarians as well as
gave nobility power and control of society. The manor system consisted of a large plot of land given to
a vassal by a king or a lord. A vassal was a deputy of the lord and was responsible for making sure that
the work on the manor was getting done. He got his manor from a feudal contract that was called the
fief which was a pledge to a lord or king that he would be their vassal for life. In exchange for this
promise, the vassal got protection from his enemies for life as well as an estate. On the manor there

The serfs would work on large manors or on smaller villages guarded by knights and would provide
food for the rest of the hierarchy. This was a mutual respect system in which land and protection was
given down the hierarchy and goods and services such as food and tax money was given up. During
the middle ages there were many threats from barbarian tribes most notably the vikings and some of
the Germanic tribes that prompted the creation of feudal systems and the manor. While this protected
the serfs and other people who other wise would not be able to defend themselves, this also gave
power the nobility and allowed them to heavily tax the lower class. In addition to corruption, this gave
the upper class and the nobility far more control over the people of the kingdoms and could have also
caused many of the problems during the middle ages. Feudalism only really worked if the respect and
service went both ways which only worked if the nobility respected the serfs and vise versa. As a
result of this, feudal and manor systems shaped Western European society because the gave protection
to the lower class while giving more power and control to the upper

China s Second Largest Travel And Tourism Economy After...
China is only flourishing as the years go by, and it is only going to continue to flourish because of the
way society is brought upon them. It is essential to know the importance of tourism and all the
positive and negative attributes it has to offer. China is the world s second largest travel and tourism
economy after the United States by 2015 , according to a new report from the World Travel Tourism
Council (WTTC). China s tourist appeal is very different from any other countries outside of East
Asia, offering a variety of things to do and places to visit. China is an exotic country with new sights
and experiences to enjoy, and has an extraordinary culture waiting for you to discover. English is
rarely spoken by locals, and seemingly everything about the culture is backwards from what you
know, but if you re up for the challenge, you ll be rewarded with a truly spectacular experience (Vans
Hinbergh). China is a very large country and with that, has many traditions and customs depending on
what geography and ethnicity you are located in the country. More than 1 billion people live in China,
according to the Asia Society, representing 56 ethnic minority groups. The largest group is the Han
Chinese, with about 900 million people (Zimmermann). It s a country that is rapidly developing new
architectures and quite frankly, losing a lot of its history to Western destruction and should be visited
soon to grasp the culture they have to offer. China s culture happens to

Opioid Drugs And Their Receptor
CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION
1.1. History of opioid research
Opioid drugs and their receptor is one of the most extensively studying areas in pharmacology. This
field of research really began from isolation of morphine, an active ingredient of opium, by German
pharmacist Friedrich Sertürner in 1989. The compound he managed to isolate was called morphine
after Morpheus, the Greek god of dream. Later Pierre Robiquet in France isolated the second
predominant alcholoid of opium, codeine. After the discovery that morphine can be used as anesthetic
in some medical procedures, it became widely used during surgeries (Brownstein, 1993). In 1898, the
Bayer Company in Germany synthesized another opioid compound, heroin. Heroin was a non
prescription drug, which was thought to be more potent than morphine in producing analgesia, and
more powerful than codeine in cough suppression. The legal production of heroin was suspended in
1925 when high levels of heroin addiction were noticed (Hosztafi, 2001, Tsisanova, 2012). In 1939,
Otto Eisleb synthesized meperidine, first opioid ligand structurally not related to morphine. This was
followed by the discovery of methadone by Max Bochmühl and Gustav Ehrhart just before the Second
World War in unfortunate attempt to synthesize addiction free opioid (Sneader, 2005, Tsisanova,
2012). 1940s were marked with the discovery of opioid antagonists, nalorphine and naloxone. The
later compound is still widely used in research as well as clinically

I Chose The Top Left Picture Of The Vanity Fair
In this 21st century where representation and visibility of all groups is valued, it is not surprising to
see photos or videos in the media promoting or even advertising unique lifestyle that just a few
decades ago would unearthed a feeling of disgust or repulsion. While on one hand some uses media in
a positive way, introducing us to new fresher ideas which would ve been unthinkable before. Suchlike
families aside from the traditional nuclear family (e.g. single parent household, lesbian and gay
couples, or eccentric families in general), people of colour taking bolder or positions of leadership, or
even simple individuals breaking the barrier of norms. On the other hand, there are those who simply
see the media as a lucrative business aimed to spread consumer commodification and vain lifestyle. As
I want to focus on the latter, I chose the top left picture of the Vanity Fair (VF) March 2014 issue. This
month s issue s cover is Jen Selter, fitness model and supposedly an inspiration for many young girls
to go to the gym. I can be put in the basket of haters but frankly, I ve never heard of her and seeing
just the magazine with her on the cover, in that position wearing that dress doesn t appeal to me. She s
wearing a black dress that covers parts that should be, but is showing enough skin to entice curiosity
paired with black stilettos. Taking a four legged animal stance on bland looking table with a hazy,
rugged wall to complete the scene . Honestly speaking, at

The Term Total War
The comprehension of the term total war has had great significance towards the understanding as to
how wars are fought, affect society and differ from other conflicts. The main issue that arises is
conclusively defining total war and is continually differing between both historians and military
combatants alike. Roger Chickering defines states total war is distinguished by its intensity and extent.
Theatres of operation span the globe; the scale of the battle is practically limitless all the while adding
total war requires the mobilisation not only of armed forced but also of whole populations This
definition, while not quintessential is a good starting point for a definition due to its broadness and
acceptance of the idea of the incapability to fully mobilise a society s entire resource. David A. Bell
states that it is often defined as a war involving the complete mobilization of a society s resources to
achieve the absolute destruction of an enemy, with all distinction erased between combatants and non
combatants . However, he notes the limitations of such an idea including the inability for societies to
meet such criterion, in particular, the ability for a society to completely utilise its resources towards
the war effort. Ultimately, Jeremey black, while not giving a conclusive definition for the term, total
war, does acknowledge different definitions by various individuals distilling many of their arguments
and consequently outlining main characteristics of

True Meaning of Love Revealed in Snow Falling on Cedars
David Guterson s novel, Snow Falling on Cedars, is one that covers a number of important aspects in
life, including some controversial topics like racism and the Japanese internment during America s
involvement in the Second World War. It speaks to this reader on a more immediate and personal
level, however, through the playing out of Ishmael and Hatsue s relationship one which Hatsue seems
to be able to walk away from, but which shapes the way Ishmael tries to live his life because he cannot
let go of the past, or a future that is not, and was not meant to be.

Upon returning from the war, Ishmael moved to Seattle and slept with three different women whom he
did not love, and whom he kept around only because he knew when asked them to walk out of his life

he was unable to stay away from Hatsue and finds a moment to share with her what his love, when not

Time. To Hatsue, time was all that was required. Because she did not, could not understand because no
one not in Ishmael s position could possibly have understood. Hatsue was still Ishmael s friend and
cared deeply for how he felt, but her position was so different from his that she had nothing to say. She

Core Concepts Of Identity Paper
Core Concepts
Identity
Identity refers to structured sense of self, which manipulates itself in threads of life (Burr, 2015).
Figure 1 of Tūrangawaewae shows individuals identity can be classified under our age, our gender
(male or female), the values and beliefs we share (religious or non religious), the experiences ( good
or bad), the people we surround ourselves with (friends and family), also not limited to, from our
genetic inheritance (ancestors or parents). However, identity threads are not pre inherited but are pre
constructed idea influenced by social experiences (Kahu, 2015). I am a woman, 21 years of age,
Christian by faith, Fijian Indian by ethnicity. I use mind set of goals to convey through my identity.
For example, excelling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet again participation in social events constructs a new identity, a voice. Voices are not just the right
to vote or express belonging through the act of protest, as not all voices are intended to get
acknowledged (Kahu, 2015). Being a union member I portray my identity in a different way.
Participating in strikes is my way of conveying my rights. This participation concludes my idea of
raising awareness of what is important to my identity, my sense of belonging in a community.
Although an act of protest may not make a difference in an overall outcome, it can still leave the idea
behind for future consideration. Not always we act on behalf of conveying the self belonging but the
belonging of a community as a whole. In the end my rights is my

Benefits Of Running Convection Allowing Models ( Cams )...
1. Introduction
The benefits of running convection allowing models (CAMs) for convective storm prediction have
been demonstrated in a variety of contexts over the past decade (e.g., Done et al. 2004; Kain et al.
2006; Lean et al. 2008; Kain et al. 2008; Clark et al. 2009; Coniglio et al. 2010; Schwartz et al. 2009;
Sobash et al. 2011; Clark et al. 2010, Clark et al. 2011; Weisman et al. 2013). As these studies show,
much of the value of running CAM forecasts comes from their ability to provide explicit information
about convective properties such as initiation, mode, motion, longevity, and intensity. To effectively
use CAM output in operational forecasting settings, novel forms of guidance are needed to summarize
these forecast attributes in ways that can be easily understood by forecasters and other end users.
Toward this end, Sobash et al. (2011), hereafter S11, documented a proof of concept for producing a
next day (12 UTC to 12 UTC) severe convective weather guidance product using output from
deterministic CAM forecasts initialized at 00 UTC. In S11, locations where intense simulated
convective storms occurred were identified using updraft helicity (UH; Kain et al. 2008), a diagnostic
designed to detect mid level mesocyclones in CAM output. A threshold was applied to the UH field to
identify severe simulated convection and produce a field of surrogate severe weather reports, which
were then spatially smoothed to create a surrogate severe probabilistic forecast

The Roman And Greek Political Systems
The Roman and Greek political systems have influenced the governments across the globe today, and
have even introduced political words such as democracy, monarchy, and tyranny. However, Rome was
influenced by the Greek, they introduced a republic view seen today then the democracy of Greek city
states. During the time of these two civilizations, they held many overlapping similarities, and other
times showing the vast difference between the related civilizations such as the location of each city
state, how much power a women had, and the separation of the groups in each political system. The
city state system highly effected the growing political parties of each civilization s development.
Greek city states were surrounded on a peninsula by mountains and islands. This separated them from
one another, and created different political systems. Due to forming independently they clashed with
other independent city states examples being that of Athens and Sparta. Sparta was a very strict city
state that had an aristocratic rule and high focus on military. Yet, Athens being a widely accepting
community showed a connection between Rome, they were more of a democracy than any other
political system. Rome had more room to grow continentally, unlike the smaller city states of Grease,
this civilization formed as one big city state that soon evolved into the Roman Republic and
conquered others and even offered citizenship to the conquered minorities afterwards. Roman political

Whilst considering the effects of Mrs. Thatcher s policies on the coal mining communities of the south

communities? Whilst much has been made of her achievement at being the first female Prime Minister
of Great Britain, she did so with a small majority of just 70, which equated to 43percent of the vote .
However, the cold fact was, that Thatcher, and her conservative government, were now in a primary
position to execute her radical socio political policies on all spheres of British and global life. These
policies would later go onto define her political career and enter the truism into the English language
Thatcherite . Thatcherism stripped to its bare essentials was primarily, nineteenth century Laissez
Faire ideology, its belief was, that the individual should take sole responsibility for him/herself and
their family and in doing so, would take responsibility for their immediate community; and, for the
state to take as small a role as possible in the individuals daily life, alongside play as small a role as
possible in the regulation and setting up of business. Thatcherism meant, defending the realm as was
witnessed by her determination to enter into hostilities with Argentina over the Falklands Islands, and
above all, to defend its currency and, to de regulate the market economy alongside creating a state
which was supportive of lower taxes, especially for the upper tax

The Stifling Health Concerns Of Dietary Supplements Consumers
The lack of regulation in the supplement industry The concoction of deceptive business methods and
unrestricted regulations have resulted in detrimental health concerns of dietary supplements
consumers. Dietary supplements is virtually unrestricted, and expanding its markets, much like the
snake oil medicines of the early 1900s . In 1993, this industry was generating 4 billion a year, by 2003
consumers spent 16.8 billions on supplements, and it is currently at 37 billion a year.(Wingert,1993;
Larsen, 2003; Bradley, 2015). This massive industry is gaining popularity from the increasing amount
of health enthusiast, and aging population. However due to the introduction of the DSHEA and the
limiting of the FDA s regulatory power, this industry has become chaotic, dangerous but highly
profitable. Consumers are in danger of ingesting unregulated and potentially dangerous pill, that are
marketed to them as nature s cures. The lobbyist and senators pass law in favor of this lucrative
industry and it will continue to grow and prospers, until the victimized consumers stand up and
strongly voice their opinions. Just like when the industry successfully campaign for supplements and
limiting regulations, we consumers should use our democratic voice against the lack of obstacles, and
safety measures of supplements. Back in the 1900s, due to the lack of regulations, anything in a bottle
can be called medicine. This opportunity led to the creation of many quack doctors , who

Freedom of Expression is Ensured in India
In India freedom of expression is ensured by Article 19(1) of the Constitution but is also limited by
Article 19(2) which allows the government to place reasonable restrictions on this right in the interests
of the sovereignty and integrity of India, the security of the state, friendly relations with foreign states,
public order, decency or morality, or in relation to contempt of court, defamation or incitement to an
offence. This means that the government can potentially censor anything. No other form of expression
has had so many run ins with these constitutional mandates as cinema.
In India the National Cinematograph act (1952) lays down the guidelines to be followed during
certification of films. It comes under the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) which in
turn comes under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The censor board
has to depend on the police to enforce its rulings. A film certification appellate tribunal is also in place
to hear appeals against a ruling of the Censor Board. The NFDC is composed of the Directorate of
Film festivals and the Film finance corporation.
Former Chief Justice M. Hidayatullah, passing judgment on what is still the landmark case on freedom
of expression in the cinema that of K. A. Abbas vs Union of India, says:
It has been almost universally recognised that the treatment of motion pictures must be different from
that of other forms of art and expression. This arises from the instant appeal of

Jews strive to bring peace, liberty, and amity to all people of the world through the works of good and

Games were an important part of Poe s technique of detective fiction writing. Games can have two
functions; to describe the deductive method of the detective and/or as a technique to solve the mystery.
In Poe s The Purloined Letter we become aware of two games even and odd (214) and the second
game is an unnamed game referred to as a game of puzzles... played upon a map (220). The game of
even and odd entailed two players, one of which held marbles in their hand and the other had to guess
whether the amount was an even or odd number. To win the game a player either had to guess
even/odd correctly or get their opponent to predict incorrectly what your guess is. This is done through

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Introducing...
The euro was introduced as a single currency as it offered many advantages over the previous situation
where each European country had its own currency. One of the main objectives of introducing the
euro was to strengthen relations between member states. The idea, rather a simple one, if you get
countries to trade with each other then they are a lot less likely to go to war. It seems a legitimate
reason, as Western Europe has been at peace now for nearly seventy years and counting.
To explain a little more about the history of introducing the euro, throughout the 1960s on to the 1980s

One downside is that the interest rates set by the ECB may not be suitable for the whole Eurozone. It
may be unsuitable for countries that are growing much faster or slower than the Eurozone average. In,
2011, the ECB increased inflation rates because of fears of inflation in Germany, however during the
same time, southern Eurozone countries were heading for recession because the interest rates set were
unsuitable for countries such as Portugal Greece and Italy.
There is also a lack of incentives being apart of the Eurozone as it is argued being a member protects a
country form currency crisis. Therefore, there is less of an incentive for countries to implement
structural reform and fiscal responsibility. For example, in good times Greece was able to benefit from
very low bond yields on its debt because people thought that the Greek debt would be taken and
secured by the rest of Europe, but this wasn t the case and Greece fell victim to a false sense of
security.
Also the Eurozone is not an optimal currency area due to language barriers. For example if a state in
the New York was facing a recession workers could easily move to New England to get a job,
however in the Eurozone this is much more difficult. There are a lot more barriers to the movement of
labour and capital in Europe. An unemployed Greek cannot easily move to

Telegram to Mexico, which would try to persuade them in joining their side of the war by promising
them they would help Mexico take back the territory and states they had lost in the Mexican American
War that occurred from 1846 to 1848. Since Mexico had lost around a third of their territory from the
Mexican Cession including Texas, New Mexico, and California, where gold was discovered shortly
after it was appropriated, the offer from Germany would have been too good to ignore. Nevertheless,
British cryptographers had intercepted the secret message before it was able to reach Mexico and
showed it to America. The Zimmerman Telegram spurred outraged Americans to join the war against
Germany on April 6, 1917 on the Allies side because they were angry that Germany would pull such a
deal behind their backs. The boost of America joining the Allies side refreshed the Allies morale to
resume their ceaseless warfare and the war became more extreme with the addition of the powerful

3. Particular analysis results
Links between single variables of health insurance and all remaining variables accounted for 8.85% of
all network connections (Blue and red links in Figure 1. A full list of links is available in the

emphases on those constituting the most relevant relationships with demographics, culture and
income, we explain the role of health insurance in the whole landscape of social resources for
wellbeing.
Forty five pairwise links (23 incoming and 22 outgoing) constitute the relationship between health

variables in resources different to health insurance. According to its high gatekeeper index (14 triads,

uncovering diverse population profiles without health insurance, such of children but also elders with

Cultural Imperialism And Iranian Art
Cultural Hegemony and Iranian Art (Iranian Art as Political Discourse)
The following paper will be an evaluation of Iranian artist and the role they play as women living in
exile. The paper will discuss how art becomes a type of political discourse against patriarchal
governments. To do this I will look at the work of Parastou Forohaur an Iranian artist whose parents
were killed when she was young because they were political activist fighting to defend the rights of all
people women and men included. In the paper I will use various sources and terms that have been
discussed throughout the semester in a short literature review. Shirin Neshat will also be discussed and
the role that she plays in created fragmented narratives that help women feel empowered in their lives
in Iran.
As a member of the artistic community something that has always bothered me is the usage of specific
pronouns during artistic compliments. What do I mean by pronouns do you ask? I am talking about
gender pronouns of course, specifically girl, female, and lady. Something that often occurs in art is
statements like the following, which I addressed earlier in the proposal for this project: she is a good
girl drummer, or she is a great female guitarist. Why do these superficial compliments exist? This
paper will address that the importance of pointing out these issues to thus be able to display these
women s resilience along the way. These women have a very interesting role in that they create a

This essay will explore the group dynamic from a socio psychological standpoint in order to present a
clear cut perception of group influence. In addition, this essay will simplify characteristics of standard
foundation, consistency, and group standards in an experimental social environment from a primary
source as opposed to related study and researches on the topic issue from consequential resources.
This essay will thrive to explain a complete perception of how social connections affect the person and
the group dynamic. In conclusion, this essay will expand upon the data collected from watching a
socially interactive group in contrast with the shared researches in order to establish the most
dependable decision. The group environment is the shared contact concerning two or plus individuals.
Groups contain the dominance to manipulate the outlooks of human being in societal affairs (Myers,
2010). The significance of power that a group will consume covers past the growth of interpersonal
connections. The progress of a group active has a great deal to do with the actions of the specific
followers. The actions of participants manipulate and influence other followers on a subliminal level.
The social interactions and actions of the group affect every one of the followers and these actions
influence eventually the superiority and accomplishment of the group involvement. The Rape Crisis
Center Group is considered one of the groups. The organization, Rape Crisis Center, is the

  • 2. Use Of The Greek Word Logos My word study will focus on the use of the Greek word logos in the opening section of the John, namely 1:1 14. The word is used in a couple of remarkable ways in this passage, namely because it is personified and associated with God and his creative work. Furthermore, this logos is said to take on flesh and dwell with humans and to enlighten all of existence. We are also told that, although the vast majority of men reject this logos in flesh, a handful do accept him. These experience transformation and are no longer considered to be born of natural descent, but to be children of God. Greek Usage The Greek word logos has the general meaning of word, statement, utterance, discourse, meaning, matter or reckoning. A derivation of lego, it appears as early as the works of Homer. It began to be used in a philosophical context in 500 B.C. by Heraclitus, who used it to express an instrument of thought that expresses the thought itself and its conclusion. As a concept logos was used to include any information given by the senses, and the underlying principle that related objects to each other in a sort of universal law. However, for other philosophers the word could be used in different ways. For instance, Parmenides used the word to express pure thought apart from the 1 senses. The Stoic philosophers used the term in a very different way, giving it the meaning of rhetorical and argumentative ability for an individual. By the third century the term began ... • 3. Phoenix Jackson Speech Hi I m Phoenix Jackson. Today I m making my way into town to the clinic to pick up my grandson s medicine to sooth his throat on this freezing December morning. I live far out in the country of Mississippi but I would do anything for my sweet grandson. He somehow swallowed lye and isn t healing very much but the medicine from the clinic is helping him cope. As I walk down this old rugged path on the country side my apron gets caught by a good for nothing thorn bush. There are also many wild animals and a huge log, that I pray I can cross, that get in my way. Passing through the cornfield I come across a scare grow that scares me half to death. When I get over the log I m so worn out that I need to rest so I sit on the grown and lean up against ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From the murder plot to the incriminating funeral speeches, honorability is lost, questioned, and acted upon for the majority of the plot. When it comes to the question of who is the most honorable man between Marc Antony and Marcus Brutus, the answer is not immediately clear. Through the first two acts, as these men develop, grow, and change their ways of thinking, both men seem to be equally valid candidates. Acts three through five are when their true colors begin to emerge, and like a butterfly from its cocoon, their inner thoughts and motives are exposed. Then, the true answer becomes clear: Brutus is the more honorable man. Why is this? He thinks of others before himself when it comes to making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before he agrees to join the conspiracy against Caesar, Brutus is seen having an internal conflict with himself over whether this would be the moral thing to do or not. He says: It must be by his death, and for my part I know no personal cause to spurn at him But for the general. (2.1.10 12) These lines indicate that while Brutus himself had nothing against Caesar, and had no reason to personally want to kill him, he is doing it for the sake of the Roman people, as he believes that they are in danger of what Caesar might become when he is crowned. Further, this shows that Brutus is a selfless man who thinks of the sake of the public before his own personal gain. Later, when he receives the forged letters written by Cassius to persuade him to join the conspirators, he says: Am I entreated To speak and strike? • 5. Symptoms And Symptoms Of Antidepressants Essay Introduction Antidepressants are used when the symptoms of a sufferer of anxiety or depression are persistent and severe. Anxiety is the general term used to describe an array of disorders that cause intense fear, apprehension, and distress (Cassiday, 2016). A depressive disorder is a disorder that causes persistent sadness and loss of hope and interest in life (Malhi et al., 2015). As antidepressants tend to have side effects whereas many other treatments do not, a sufferer of anxiety will commonly be initially treated with cognitive behavioural therapy or other forms of talking therapy, meditation, exercise, and healthy eating if these treatments are not effective a patient will be considered to be prescribed medication (Cassiday, 2016). However patients that are prescribed antidepressants additionally are typically treated with other therapies, as the combination of different remedies is almost always far more effective than only one (Sethi, 2012). Every medical practitioner has varying methods of prescribing medications for anxiety and depression, however they are often similar. Initially the medical practitioner will analyse the severity and specific symptoms of the illness to determine what general family of antidepressant to prescribe as the severity and specific symptoms are the most important factors in determining antidepressant prescription. Secondly, personal factors of the patient will be analysed as a person s genetics has a great impact on prescription. Next ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Given the proximity of characters such as the prioress, the friar and the monk to each other, while the parson is hundred of lines away, Chaucer clearly grouped characters not only by social standing, but by character and attitude as well. However, these lifestyle differences seem to have little effect on Chaucer s portrayal of the similarities between the two characters. The manciple and the reeve perform similar duties. Each cares for the needs of another of higher social status more adeptly than their superiors could do for themselves. Their most basic similarity, and the one which Chaucer highlights in most detail, is the excellence in which they perform their labors. • 13. Entrepreneurial Structure Of The Innovative... Entrepreneurial Structure In contrast to the holistic entrepreneurial culture approach, other companies form separate groups that work isolated from the rest of the organization to come up with disruptive innovations. A common strategy to achieve this isolation is the skunk works model. A small group is working full time on a project without being distracted by the company s administrative overhead. They have a separate budget and only focus on their specific project assignment. This provides the team freedom, autonomy, and independence to think outside of current business constraints and come up with truly disruptive innovations (Fosfuri Rønde, 2009). Large companies with many and mature processes are ideal for this approach. IBM for example, used this method to develop the PC (Roberts, 2004). Other companies as well, established formal support centers to provide support and budget for dedicated teams that work as separate organizational structure. Cargill for instance, created an Emerging Business Accelerator to fund all promising projects that could be part of any existing department and potentially reach completely new markets. Since managers are often only incentivized to meet short term targets, Cargill had to adjust the targets for managers accordingly (Wolcott Lippitz, 2007). Isolated groups might be seen as a potential threat by other departments as they might render their current function obsolete (Fosfuri Rønde, 2009). It is therefore important to establish ... Even though they have been around for thousands of years, the term, genocide only recently received a formal definition. In 1948, during the aftermath of World War II and the Holocaust, the United Nations came together to establish a concrete definition for the term genocide . Their definition stated genocide as: acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such: a. Killing members of the group; b. Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; c. Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; d. Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; e. Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group. This definition is still applicable to events that occurred before its creation though, and one event in particular definitely falls into these criteria. Rationality per se seems rejected at the start, where we are asked first to comprehend Infinity, and then to envision it (everything) beholding all things (also everything). Although Taylor certainly meant to humble his reader in the preface to his long poem, he certainly did not have a modern rationalist or aesthete audience in mind when he wrote it. His intended readers were rather his parishioners, 17th century Puritan men and women for whom poetry was more a rhetorical than an aesthetic exercise, and for whom God s ways were understood to be inscrutable what we might call irrational to the sons of Adam. Part of a people who left for the New World in order to enjoy a more perfect relation with their God, now in a third generation Taylor s audience was beginning to forget what was for an orthodox Puritan their proper place among all things. God s Determinations was Taylor s way to remind his readers of that place. Taylor begins his poem by limning the first verses of Genesis, but from line 3 to line 19, nearly half the poem, he asks questions questions which amplify God s physical might and unimaginable power while they invite readers to remind themselves of a time (before their recent lapse in faith) when they had evinced a more proper respect for that power. A vassal was a deputy of the lord and was responsible for making sure that the work on the manor was getting done. He got his manor from a feudal contract that was called the fief which was a pledge to a lord or king that he would be their vassal for life. While this protected the serfs and other people who other wise would not be able to defend themselves, this also gave power the nobility and allowed them to heavily tax the lower class. In addition to corruption, this gave the upper class and the nobility far more control over the people of the kingdoms and could have also caused many of the problems during the middle ages. • 23. Opioid Drugs And Their Receptor CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1. History of opioid research Opioid drugs and their receptor is one of the most extensively studying areas in pharmacology. This field of research really began from isolation of morphine, an active ingredient of opium, by German pharmacist Friedrich Sertürner in 1989. The compound he managed to isolate was called morphine after Morpheus, the Greek god of dream. Later Pierre Robiquet in France isolated the second predominant alcholoid of opium, codeine. After the discovery that morphine can be used as anesthetic in some medical procedures, it became widely used during surgeries (Brownstein, 1993). In 1898, the Bayer Company in Germany synthesized another opioid compound, heroin. Heroin was a non prescription drug, which was thought to be more potent than morphine in producing analgesia, and more powerful than codeine in cough suppression. The legal production of heroin was suspended in 1925 when high levels of heroin addiction were noticed (Hosztafi, 2001, Tsisanova, 2012). In 1939, Otto Eisleb synthesized meperidine, first opioid ligand structurally not related to morphine. This was followed by the discovery of methadone by Max Bochmühl and Gustav Ehrhart just before the Second World War in unfortunate attempt to synthesize addiction free opioid (Sneader, 2005, Tsisanova, 2012). 1940s were marked with the discovery of opioid antagonists, nalorphine and naloxone. • 25. The Term Total War The comprehension of the term total war has had great significance towards the understanding as to how wars are fought, affect society and differ from other conflicts. The main issue that arises is conclusively defining total war and is continually differing between both historians and military combatants alike. Roger Chickering defines states total war is distinguished by its intensity and extent. Theatres of operation span the globe; the scale of the battle is practically limitless all the while adding total war requires the mobilisation not only of armed forced but also of whole populations This definition, while not quintessential is a good starting point for a definition due to its broadness and acceptance of the idea of the incapability to fully mobilise a society s entire resource. David A. Bell states that it is often defined as a war involving the complete mobilization of a society s resources to achieve the absolute destruction of an enemy, with all distinction erased between combatants and non combatants . However, he notes the limitations of such an idea including the inability for societies to meet such criterion, in particular, the ability for a society to completely utilise its resources towards the war effort. Ultimately, Jeremey black, while not giving a conclusive definition for the term, total war, does acknowledge different definitions by various individuals distilling many of their arguments and consequently outlining main characteristics of ... • 28. Benefits Of Running Convection Allowing Models ( Cams )... 1. Introduction The benefits of running convection allowing models (CAMs) for convective storm prediction have been demonstrated in a variety of contexts over the past decade (e.g., Done et al. 2004; Kain et al. 2006; Lean et al. 2008; Kain et al. 2008; Clark et al. 2009; Coniglio et al. 2010; Schwartz et al. 2009; Sobash et al. 2011; Clark et al. 2010, Clark et al. 2011; Weisman et al. 2013). As these studies show, much of the value of running CAM forecasts comes from their ability to provide explicit information about convective properties such as initiation, mode, motion, longevity, and intensity. To effectively use CAM output in operational forecasting settings, novel forms of guidance are needed to summarize these forecast attributes in ways that can be easily understood by forecasters and other end users. Toward this end, Sobash et al. (2011), hereafter S11, documented a proof of concept for producing a next day (12 UTC to 12 UTC) severe convective weather guidance product using output from deterministic CAM forecasts initialized at 00 UTC. In S11, locations where intense simulated convective storms occurred were identified using updraft helicity (UH; Kain et al. 2008), a diagnostic designed to detect mid level mesocyclones in CAM output. A threshold was applied to the UH field to identify severe simulated convection and produce a field of surrogate severe weather reports, which were then spatially smoothed to create a surrogate severe probabilistic forecast ... The Roman And Greek Political Systems The Roman and Greek political systems have influenced the governments across the globe today, and have even introduced political words such as democracy, monarchy, and tyranny. During the time of these two civilizations, they held many overlapping similarities, and other times showing the vast difference between the related civilizations such as the location of each city state, how much power a women had, and the separation of the groups in each political system. The city state system highly effected the growing political parties of each civilization s development. Greek city states were surrounded on a peninsula by mountains and islands. This separated them from one another, and created different political systems. Due to forming independently they clashed with other independent city states examples being that of Athens and Sparta. Sparta was a very strict city state that had an aristocratic rule and high focus on military. Whilst much has been made of her achievement at being the first female Prime Minister of Great Britain, she did so with a small majority of just 70, which equated to 43percent of the vote . However, the cold fact was, that Thatcher, and her conservative government, were now in a primary position to execute her radical socio political policies on all spheres of British and global life. These policies would later go onto define her political career and enter the truism into the English language Thatcherite . Thatcherism stripped to its bare essentials was primarily, nineteenth century Laissez Faire ideology, its belief was, that the individual should take sole responsibility for him/herself and their family and in doing so, would take responsibility for their immediate community; and, for the state to take as small a role as possible in the individuals daily life, alongside play as small a role as possible in the regulation and setting up of business.
