Competition television shows have made the world a better place! In The Book of the Courtier
there is a discussion about characteristics of a good courtier. One of the characteristics was
sprezzatura. This characteristic means that the courtier should go about showing off their skills and
talents in a nonchalance way, even if they worked hard behind the scenes. If Castiglione watched
television today his least favorite genre would be completion shows.
Importance Of Sprezzatura
Castiglione thought that sprezzatura was important to show skill as an effortless talent. He
highlights this point flat out by saying Practice in all things a certain sprezzatura [nonchalance],
so as to conceal all art and make whatever is done or said appear to be without effort and almost
without any thought about it (Bizzell Herzberg, 2001, p.661). Even if a person practiced for hours
on end they should not let others know. Instead the skill should be presented as a natural talent.
Presenting a skill in this way keeps the audience in the dark on the preparation that went into
making the speaker come off as effortless. Consequently this point leads me to believe that
Castiglione would dislike completion shows because this goes against nonchalance.

In his poem Jabberwocky , Lewis Carroll tells the tale of a boy warned by his father of the
dangerous creatures that lurk outside, where then the boy goes out and slays one of the most
dangerous, therefore receiving praise and gratitude from his father. Carroll utilizes sound in the
form of made up words, rhyme, and tone to create a fanciful atmosphere that exploits our fear
and curiosity to develop a theme of good versus evil. In this context, man is seen as good while
beast is viewed as evil. This poem takes place in a make believe world formulated in Carroll s
imagination. Going along with the fanciful setting are the fanciful words that the author created
just for this poem. He uses portmanteaus to adjust adjectives to fit into his fantastical setting.
His first portmanteau is slithy (line 1). This is a combination of lithe and slimy . He s using this
to describe the toves (a type of badger) and by creating this new word, it better fits into his make
believe world. The motions of your mouth and tongue when saying the word slithy simply feel
the same as the word s meaning; your tongue moves forward and back actively as lithe implies,
while the slimy part comes with feeling that the word is smooth, it slips with your tongue as you
say it. This adds to the poem s sound because this single word adds texture and meaning to the

Buddhism. The Lotus Sutra is considered a sacred scripture of Buddhism. Within this sacred

II. Parenting Capabilities of Same Sex Couples One of the main reasons that some individuals
feel that same sex couples should be banned from adopting children is due to the belief that they
are incapable. There are various amounts of scientific research compiled by the American Civil
Liberties Union that shows that the parenting practices of same sex couples are just as good as

livelihood, so instead we manage the players with our whistle tone, body language, and verbal

Red 31(complete decolorization in 6 h), Solvent Red 24 (complete decolorization in 8 h), Basic
Green 4 (80% in 24 h), Diamond Green 4 (complete decolorization in 24 h), Pigment Orange 31
(complete decolorization in 3 h) and RO16 (complete decolorization in 2 h), while in sterile, cell
free medium decolorization did not occur up to 48 h of incubation suggesting the absence of abiotic
decolorization. As RO16 showed complete decolorization in 2 h, this industrially important toxic
azo dyewas taken for further studies. Lysinibacillus sp. RGS could decolorize RO16 rapidly and
thus was found to be better than the bacterial consortium DAS reported by Jadhav et al (2011).
To confirm the decolorization, UV Vis spectroscopic analysis was carried out. The absorption
spectra of RO16 before and after treatment by Lysinibacillus sp. RGS in visible range were taken.
Peak responsible for absorption maxima of parent dye (495 nm) were completely disappeared in
the sample obtained after decolorization (Fig.S1) confirming the complete removal.

Within a multilingual automatic speech recognition (ASR) system, knowledge of the language
of origin of unknown words can improve pronunciation modelling accuracy. This is of particular
importance for ASR systems required to deal with code switched speech or proper names of
foreign origin. For words that occur in the language model, but do not occur in the pronunciation
lexicon, text based language identification (T LID) of a single word in isolation may be required.
This is a challenging task, especially for short words. We motivate for the importance of
accurate T LID in speech processing systems and introduce a novel way of applying Joint
Sequence Models to the T LID task. We obtain competitive results on a real world 4 language
task: for our best JSM system, an F1 value of 97.2% is obtained, compared to a F1 value of 95.2%
obtained with a state of the art Support Vector Machine (SVM). Words, phrases and names are often
used across language boundaries in multilingual settings. Especially for minority languages, such
{it code switching} with a dominant language can become an intrinsic part of the language
itself~cite{modipaimplications}. Automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems are required to

What is bullying? It is the intentional harm doing or harrasement directed to vulnerable people
and is repeated quite often. Bullying can be done in multiple ways. Some examples are: physical

A Perfect Balance While the subject of My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke has spurred

on my head which can be seen in a variety of ways. At first glance, it may seem as if the father
physically hit the child with his hand; however, upon a deep analysis, it becomes clear that one
might interpret the word beat as though it s the rhythm of a dance. Roethke makes readers delve
deep into the context just to find both meanings. He cleverly uses diction to require the reader to
reread his poem. Due to the numerous amounts of phrases containing words chosen with positive
and negative connotations, Roethke fabricates a perfect balance which causes the reader to find
difficulty understand the true meaning of My Papa s Waltz.
Although Roethke s use of diction may fuel both arguments, It cannot reveal his intentions
behind the poem alone. He uses imagery to his advantage of this mind game by plugging in
words throughout the poem which captivate the reader and force them to form a mental image;
he does illustrates in My Papa s Waltz by stating The whiskey on your breath could make a small
boy dizzy. This statement reveals how drunk the father is which sets interpretation for the rest of
the poem. Since drinking is one cause of abuse, numerous amounts of people may see the rest of

Parallel Prefix Adder (PPA) is one of the fastest types of adder that had been created and developed.
Some of the common types of parallel prefix adders are Brent Kung, Kogge Stone, Han Carlson
and Ladner Fischer adders. This paper involves an investigation of the performances of these adders
in terms of computational delay, interconnect usage and power. The investigation and comparison
for all these adders was conducted for 8 bit size. By using the XILINX 14.5 design software, the
designs for above mentioned adders were developed. The simulation result produced the vector
waveform which then shows the computational delay; interconnect usage and power for the adders.
Hence, this project is significant in showing which of these adders being tested perform better in
