Living in a Tipi It was 1973. I was twenty one, living in Vancouver, and working as
a nanny. I had lived in Toronto for three years after graduating high school in
Sudbury, Ontario. In my last story, Going West and Coming Home, I described my
previous adventures. Vancouver is a fantastic city, but I think, at heart, I m more
of a country gal. One day, my old friend Dik Budd (from Toronto) called and
invited me to visit him in Merville, on Vancouver Island. So, off I went, on a ferry
over to Naniamo. I could not believe the size of the ocean or Vancouver Island.

Dik, who was small guy, had the perfect home. Like a hobbit house, it had a wood

In the book, Outcasts United, by St. John, my favorite chapter is actually the first
one. Chapter one is all about Luma, the soccer coach of the refugees. The reason
chapter one is my favorite is because she reminds me a lot of myself. Luma wants
to part from her parents and stay in the United States of America. Her choice came
with the consequences of her parents and sister not communicating with her again
if she chooses to stay in the US. Her grandma would still communicate about the
family until she passes away in a later chapter. Another example of why this is my
favorite is because I can relate to tons of it. My dad no longer talks to me due to
me moving out at too young of an age. I moved to the city to be closer to work and
school but in his eyes I was sinning. This is also why I think I relate most to Luma.
There are other reasons why I think that I relate to Luma. Throughout the whole
book, Luma never wants to give up. For example in chapter nine, Get Lost , when
Luma knows she has to find a new field for her fugeesto play on. According to St
John, on page 93, the YMCA calls and lets Luma know they found a field for her.
She never gave up on her high hopes. Luma always wanted the best for her players.
I am just like Luma, as I never give up on things. My number one struggle I never
give up on is my exercise. Luma has a great strength in her hopes. She honestly

Studies which support the effect of cognateness:
I shall present three studies in which their findings are incompatible with Milton and
Daller s (2007) findings, which disputed the impact of cognateness on L2 word
learning. The first study was carried out by Willis Ohashi (2012) to investigate the
factors that affect the learning process of L2 words. The participants were 69 Japanese
ESL learners studying in different departments of Tokyo University for females:
Linguistics, Communication, Science, Mathematics and Psychology. They studied
English for a long period, 7 years or more. The subjects were given a multiple choice
test in order to assess the size of their recognition of L2 words, the first seven levels
of VST. They completed the test within 15 25 minutes. The researchers aimed to
examine three factors: frequency, cognateness and word length involving the
measurements of it, phonemes, syllables and letters. Additionally, they aimed to
examine the assumed mutual and intervening relationship between the three factors,
frequency, cognateness and word length, in order to examine the effect of frequency
and word length on cognates and non cognates.
The results of this study revealed that cognateness is strongly correlated with item
facility (IF), 29%, followed by frequency, 23% suggesting that cognateness and
more frequent words are easier to acquire and remember. All the three variables of
word length are less correlated with (IF), between 7 to 8 %, suggesting

In the article, The Pedagogy of Emotional Response: Feeling Shakespeare s The
Winter s Tale by James Lambert, he refers to the Cognitive Emotional Pedagogy
which is a a relatively recent theory that maintains that the brain s cognitive
functions are activated by a person s emotional memory and state (28). As in, the
best way to interpret this play is for the readers to develop a sense of feeling to the
play in order to analyzing and learn from it. I believe Shakespeare is able to do that
by demonstrating the influence words have over the characters thus creating the
emotional reactions inside the play that the audience can relate too. For example,
many people can relate to Hermione where they have tried to convince someone
something isn t true but no matter what they say, it will never change. As a teacher, I

History Channel Series Modern Marvels
It takes more than just an army to keep America s military and personnel operating
365 days a year at 100%, it also takes an air force and navy. The task for getting
supplies, soldiers, Marines and sailors to where they are needed in the world falls
to the U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) and its components which
is truly a herculean feat. The History Channel series Modern Marvels featured
USTRANSCOM in season 17 episode 11 which covered packaging and the
technology and creativity that it takes to create and sustain movement of all types of
items and people. In the episode the series highlighted all three major subcommands
of USTRANSCOM; Air Mobility Command, Military Sealift Commandand Military
Surface Deployment and Distribution Center. Having served four years active duty
in the U.S. Navy directly after September 11, 2001 and now serving in the U.S.
Navy Reserves and just recently returning from a deployment overseas to the Horn
of Africa I have had firsthand experience with the services of USTRANSCOM and
some knowledge about what they do. It is extremely interesting to see how my
fellow brothers and sisters in arms help those of us that are not only down range in
our designated area of responsibility but as well as at home. Unfortunately the 10 to
15 minute segment was too short to really show all that USTRANSCOM does (its
mission), all the different types of equipment they use to complete their missions and
the vast array of three subcommands capabilities.

Abstract
In this lab we looked at the mold on three different fruits in three different
environments to asses which fruit would have the most mold and in which
environment the mold would be present the most. For the experiment we used fruits
that were in season so that we could also compare organic and non organic fruit.
Because of this my group chose tomatoes, peaches and apples. We hypothesized that
peaches would rot the most out of each of the fruits and that the peaches would rot
the most in our warmest environment, the incubator. The fruits were then observed
over a period of weeks. At the end of this period of time the peaches had rotted the
most and burst and the peaches in the incubator were the first to go.

My treatment kit for children with communication disorders consists of 5
activities. The first involves a cardboard box covered in construction paper made
to look like a monster. This monster box has an opening for its mouth where items
can be dropped through. Once the pieces are placed inside, the child cannot take
them out, but there is a hidden opening under one of the sides of the box, allowing
the clinician to remove the pieces later. The monster box would be appropriate for

I have known Keri for 3 years now as we came to Northwest Christian University
from Blue Mountain Community College to attend school and play volleyball.
Keri is one of my closest friends and volunteered when she overheard me talking
about our mock interviews to our coach. Keri is an Exercise Science major here at

Cremin Myhill (2012) describe being able to write, and read, as being a gateway to
empowerment; this is because writing is a requirement of most academic schools and
tertiary institutions. For this reason it is imperative that teachers engage in language
education and help their students grow as writers.
The language of writing itself is a complex system of rules and processes that each
child learns as they progress through school, using their teachers knowledge to
slowly build on these skills. Languages of other cultures also exhibit these rules
and processes that the language users must abide by, they may not be uniform
across all languages however all rules would be present (Green, 2006). An
excellent example of this is the syntactic structures of languages. Syntax as
described by Emmitt et al (2010, p.128), is a system of rules that describes how
words are related and that sentences are more then just words in a random order.
Instead syntax can be seen as a process that allows certain information to be extracted
by words uttered in context (Marten, 2006, p. X). However it is not just the
combination of words that makes a meaning. The individual words need to be taken
into consideration, this is referred to as the semantics of language. As Emmitt et al
(2010, p.136) suggests, knowing the meaning associated with the individual word it
allows the recipient of the text to have a clearer interpretation of the syntax

slowly evolved into what it is today. The topic of education has been controversial

State Championship Game Analysis
In the Mountain Valley Conference there are 14 schools which includes mine all
competing for 2 goals, the MVC Championship and the State Championship.
Established in 1964 to serve schools in Western Maine, the charter members were
Farmington High School, Gould Academy, Hall Dale High School, Jay High School,
Livermore Falls High School, Mexico High School, and Wilton Academy. The
conference has gone through several changes over the years. The current 14 schools
are Boothbay, Dirigo, Carrabec, Hall Dale, Lisbon, Monmouth, Madison, Mt. Abram,

We were playing Mountain Valley, a team we lost to earlier in the year by a score
of 1 0. My soccer team did not lose very often. We lost once in the regular season in
all of my high school career. So my team and I wanted revenge. We wanted this
