Research Paper On Serena Williams
Serena Williams Attributes Her Success to Jehovah God
Serena Williams is the best women s tennis player in the world today, and has been virtually
unbeatable during much of the last two decades. At 33 years old, she is the oldest woman to win a
grand slam event in the open era, she has 21 slam victories just 1 behind Stephi Graf for the most in
the open era, and is only three slam wins behind Margaret Court, the phenom of the 60s and 70s, for
the most slam wins in history. If she wins the U.S. Open later his year, she will be the first woman to
complete the calendar year slam since Graf did it in 1998. In doing so, she will also have tied Graf as
the winningest woman in the Open Era and 2nd most in history, just 2 slam wins behind Court. ...

Certainly a great work ethic plays a part, and her conditioning is top notch. If you ask her coaches they
will tell you about her exercise regimen and diet. If you ask Williams herself, you may just get a
smile, or you may get to hear about her faith in Jehovah God.
Williams does not talk about her faith much, but she is a Jehovah s Witness and attributes her success
to her faith. When she wins, she typically starts a victory interview with I want to thank Jehovah God.
Jehovah Witnesses do not typically support organized sports and are rarely athletes. According to the
Huffington Post, the Witnesses avoid sports since they promote nationalism, violence and celebrity all
things Witnesses are supposed to avoid.
Williams still participates in church services and has witnessed door to door. She prays, and trusts that
Jehovah God will give her strength to do her best. Once, after winning the the Australian Open she
said, I was down and out and he helped me today and I just said prayers, not to win but to be strong
and to be healthy and in the end I was able to come through so I have to give the glory to him first and

Differences Between Diurnal And Nocturnal Primates
I chose to write my paper on the differences between diurnal and nocturnal primates. I chose this topic
because I thought it sounded interesting. I also chose it because I have horrible night vision and have
trouble driving at night, so I thought it would be cool to learn how certain primates live in darkness
and how their eyes work. This topic is relevant to biological anthropology because we learned about
all different types of primates throughout the course and their characteristics including: social
behaviors, diets, nocturnal vs. diurnal, and many other aspects of primate life. We didn t get to go into
detail about many of the primates and see the differences in nocturnal versus diurnal. In my paper I
decided to key in on two specific animals, the owl money and brown lemur. I did this because I
wanted to get to know more about each animal and the owl monkey has a very unique story. I also
chose to narrow in on the main difference between all diurnal and nocturnal animals and that is the
eyes. In my paper I will talk about the behavioral differences between the owl monkey and brown
lemur (I will also go into some detail about each of the primates, because I thought they both were
fascinating), the differences in the eyes, and also just some other general facts about diurnal and
nocturnal primates. The first thing I m going to talk about is the differences in the eyes of nocturnal
and diurnal primates. One thing that is very fascinating to me is that many primates

A New Lifestyle In The Dominican Republic
Making a change in a person s life can be exciting. Visiting a new country, moving to a new house,
trying new foods, being exposed to different languages, getting to know new people as well as
cultures, are experiences that everybody has on their bucket list. However, doing it all at once to adopt
a new lifestyle can be too much for a teenager. Back in 2008, I was sixteen years old and going in 12th
grade. My parents made a decision that changed the course of our lives. They decided to leave our
home country, the Dominican Republic and start a new life here in the United States. Leaving the
place I was born and raised at, friends that I ve known since I was in pre K and family, was very hard.

Love and Marriage in Pride and Prejudice Essays
How does Jane Austen present love and marriage in Pride and
Prejudice?
Jane Austen presents love and marriage in many ways in the novel
Pride and Prejudice. In this essay I am going to discuss some of these marriages, not only from Jane
Austen s portrayl of her characters but also from my own point of view.
Jane Austen opens Pride and Prejudice with a statement:
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must want be
in want of a wife.
By using this statement as her opening line she makes it very clear that she is humoured by the idea
that every young an who has a large sum of money are eagerly looking for a wife. The main part of
her book is based on matrimony. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Mr Bennet speaks to his beloved daughter Lizzie, he feelingly says to her,
My dear child, let me not have the grief of seeing you unable to respect your partner in life. You know
not what you are about.
This happens when Mr Darcy has just proposed to Elizabeth. When I question why Mr and Mrs
Bennet s marriage is so unsuccessful, I am faced with three points that I think contribute to their
marital problem. Between Mr and Mrs Bennet there is no intellectual equality. Mr
Bennet is clever, but on the other hand his wife isn t, in fact Mrs
Bennet is a fool! She does not understand her husband in the slightest manner, and so Mr Bennet
frequently takes this opportunity to make a quick comment that will offend Mrs Bennet. Jane Austen
says, The experience of three and twenty years had been insufficient to make his wife understand his
temper.
These twenty three years of his unhappy marriage had brought Mrs
Bennet s characteristics out in a true light. She was a woman of mean understanding, very little
information and an uncertain temper. She fancied herself nervous whenever she felt discontented. The
business of her life was to get her daughters married, it seemed that was all the poor woman ever went
on a bout and it infuriated Mr Bennet greatly. The second point is that Mr Bennet never showed any
respect for his wife and almost seemed to enjoy ridiculing her in front of her

Questions On Intellectual Property Rights

MID EXAM
1Ans) Intellectual property right gives credit to the original work done by the people .The law
the creative work of the people from coping or imitating without their permission. There are
three main things that protect the intellectual right .They are copyrights, patents and trademarks.
As the technology increases instead of thinking newly ,people are choosing a alternative or easy
way of imitating the other works and showing as their own work .
Here are few examples of violating the intellectual property rights:
1.)A Beijing court in china has ruled that Microsoft violated intellectual properties of a Chinese
company. Violation was over fonts that are used in previous versions of windows operating
system, which lead Microsoft to stop selling versions of windows that use Chinese fonts.
There are violations of pirated copies of windows that are been selling in China. There was
an agreement of using fonts in windows from Zhongyi s intellectual property. But Zhongyi
appealed that the agreement was for Windows 95 only but not for other versions of windows.
2.) In San Juan, the group was arrested by Puerto Rico Police working jointly with U.S

The Client and business plan
Nicknamed The old Lady is so far the biggest building of a rural primary school in the province of
Montebello, This work of great size and architectural richness is one of the biggest buildings
constructed on bamboo (Guadua local name for the material) throughout Latin America, and it is
expected to revalue this material and show the world its many possibilities.
The project relies only on private obtained funds and resources, and even now several years after it
started the school complex, has only been completed about 25%, due to lack of funds, the entire cost is

The project is being built since 2012 by the youth of Montebello and several international volunteers it

Essay on The Boondock Saints’ Positive Deviance
The movie The Boondock Saints provides an excellent example of positive deviance through
innovation. The Social theory of deviance can easily explain the brothers actions. The movie can be
used to study deviance as the brothers kill people who are mafia members, breaking the norms of
society. Even though the acts they are committing are clearly illegal and deviant, the people of South
Boston do not react in a negative way. Since the Social theory is very broad, it will be easier to look at
the brother s acts under three sub theories: Labeling, Conflict and Strain theories. The Social theory of
deviance explains why people break social norms, and what their motivation may be for doing so. The
brothers undoubtedly break one of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the brothers kill the first two Russian mafia members, the community gives them the label The
Saints of South Boston . Because of the positive connotation of the label that they are given by the
media, they realize that the people living in the city would not have a major problem with them killing
the top members of the mafia to make the city more peaceful.
As they become better at killing the top mafia members, some of the citizens even go as far as to call
the brothers Angels . With the majority of the city supporting the brothers killings, they see no reason
why they should stop. Instead they take it to the next level with the help of more positive labels, and
make it more of an occupation, they compare themselves to 7 11 as they are not always doing
business, but they are always open. Without the labels that the media gives them, it would not be
possible to continue on with their work of reducing crime. If the labels were originally negative after
their first encounter with the two mafia members, there would be no reason for them to continue, as no
one would approve of their acts. After the last scene of the movie, there are interviews with the
citizens of South Boston. During the interviews, most of the people are starting to give the brothers
negative labels calling them criminals. Since the labels are becoming more and more negative, the
brothers leave and go back to Ireland where they grew up. The Labeling theory is

Rough Draft About Friendship
Friendship draft
A true friend is someone who would stop whatever they are doing to help you through anything and
you would do the same for them. In a friendship both people need to posses the same essential traits
for the friendship to be successful. Friends are a big part of my life because without them life would
be very dull. I think God made us to find people that we are compatible with so we can go through life
together. Three traits that a person should posses to be a good friend are honesty, loyalty and
encouragement. In my experience my friends who live out all three of these traits fully, are my closest
friends and I hold the same traits back to them.
Honesty is a difficult subject when it comes to friendship. There are two ways it can go. The first
scenario being one lies to their friend because they think they are protecting their feelings. This case is
bad because if you are always lying to your friend they are not going to trust you. The second scenario
is you are always honest to your friend about everything. When you are being too honest it can be
taken offensively and hurt the friendship. True friends find the perfect balance between the two. They
are honest with each other but they discuss topics in a respectful manner. ... Show more content on

just keep going. I know personally lately I have been having a lot of negativity and jealousy towards
me and I was letting other peoples words get to me, but in that situation I found out who my true

Nevertheless, it is still possible to lose weight when you have asthma and manage your weight. There
are a few strategic ways to handle it.

The Effects Of Technology On Human Health
Le Tran Professor: M. Scott Carter English1213 MC03F 9 December, 2015 Negative Effects of
Technology on Human Health In recent years, technology has been on a continuous rise. It has
become an integral part of the lives of countless individuals. From laptops to mobile phones, various
devices have their daily use in the daily affairs of people, whether the average citizen or famous
personalities. For the most part, technology has its benefits. Students now have easy and quick access
to multiple sources of information within the click of a button or the touch of a screen regardless of
location. Friends and family may now communicate across vast distances in real time. Also, people
may use their mobile devices to entertain themselves, especially in terms of watching videos on
demand and playing virtual games. There are many other examples. However, technology also has its
disadvantages. In sum, technology has the potential to cause negative effects on human health. Unless
properly addressed, many people are at risk of experiencing negative health consequences due to the
constant use of many technological devices today. For example, they can cause sleep deprivation or
people spent too much time for mobile instead of taking a rest. They can make limit posture while
using them. In addition, people can make nearly sight eyes, hurt in neck or back. The most important
thing is the radiation from the modern technology devices that we do not really know exactly what
disease it happen

Food Safety In Health And Social Care Essay
Employers must ensure that food safety legislations are implemented and adhered to in the workplace.
Employers of food businesses or organisations must also appoint an employee or two or more people
to ensure that workers comply with Food Safety and Health and Safety legislations. In most
organisations and businesses, administration implements such policies. In care settings such as
hospitals or schools, the Health and Safety Officer creates and implements such policies. Health and

Catching the Big Fish: Meditation, Consciousness, and Creativity is a book by famous and very

is a short book with 192 pages published on December 28, 2006 in United States which covers the
subjects like meditation, self help, creativity and peace. This title of this book Catching a big Fish
gives the idea of Lynch s thoughts. In this review I will be discussing the summary of book along with

It was above an average book to read and was not one of the best one s I have read due to some
reasons. The foremost reason for my dislike was that this book was just an illustration about Lynch s
experiences and all about how meditating helped him which might be disappointing for the readers
like me because this book can be seen as completely lacking the dramatic tension that readers like me
expects from a book. Secondly, I felt that the information provided in this book was fragmented and
not very well structured and it seems that author was free to write his experiences into bits and pieces
without putting any extra efforts towards character development, story arcs and plotting. If you are not
a fan of David Lynch and are not known to his works you will be really disappointed. On the other
hand, if you are a great fan of Lynch it is a great book to read for you because every fan desires to
know more about his role model s inspiration, how he develop ideas, what are the pushing factors for
his works and this book contains it all. It contains everything from Lynch s experiences to his
inspirations and push factors for his creative thinking. It is a great book for the ones who want to
understand Lynch more deeply. The reason for my liking towards this book was some of the quotes
and phrases which I discussed above in the review which were really eye opening and motivating for

Positive And Negative Constraints Of Virtual Reality In...
The College of Computer Science is a diverse academic community where conversations surrounding

role in the discourse of my academic community. As one of the major research areas in this discourse
community, people in this community are talking about different ways virtual reality can be

constraints. One positive constraint is the abundance of virtual reality products that are created by a
wide range of companies. In this academic discourse community, a positive constraint is everyone

negative constraint is that despite these welcomed innovations, virtual reality also poses some
problems, one of them being how expensive the technology is to the average consumer. More

Self-Awareness In Locke s On Identity And Diversity
Self awareness is the capacity for introspection and the ability to recognize oneself as an individual
separate from the environment and other individuals.
In philosophy
An early philosophical discussion of self awareness is that of John Locke. Locke was apparently
influenced by René Descartes statement normally translated I think, therefore I am . In chapter XXVII
On Identity and Diversity of Locke s An Essay Concerning Human Understanding he conceptualized
consciousness as the repeated self identification of oneself, through which moral responsibility could
be attributed to the subject and therefore punishment and guiltiness justified, as critics such as

The Red Spot Technique created and experimented by Gordon Gallup studies self awareness in
animals . In this technique, a red odorless spot is placed on an anesthetized primate s forehead. The
spot is placed on the forehead so that it can only be seen through a mirror. Once the individual
awakens, independent movements toward the spot after seeing their reflection in a mirror are
observed. During the Red Spot Technique, after looking in the mirror, chimpanzees used their fingers
to touch the red dot that was on their forehead and even after touching the red dot they would smell
their fingertips. Animals that can recognize themselves in mirrors can conceive of themselves, says
Gallup. This would mean that the chimpanzees would possess self awareness. Note that the

Having experience with a mirror before the technique was performed reflects the past, independent

A Report On Motorcycle Training Environments
This study is conducted at a hospital in Brazil. It is taking a look at the same issues other countries
around the world are having with motorcycle accidents. Just like the rest of the world, Brazil is stating
how the amount of motorcycles on the roadways have increased over the last few years. Like all other
countries people are looking for a cheaper easier mode of transportation. This study looked at the
amount the insurance companies had to pay for motorcycle patients who wear a helmet to the ones
who did not. They found that on average the amount spent on medical care for a no helmet patient was
$5.5 billion. For the patients that wore a motorcycle helmet the price dropped to $3.3 billion. They
also noted that the chance of survival increase with wearing a helmet then without, with a Glasgow
Coma Scale score of 8 or lower and less likely to die from their injuries. I believe that studies like this
need to be incorporated into motorcycle training environments, informing the riders on all the facts.
Even with me leaving a place that has a mandatory helmet law, and going to a state that doesn t
require helmet use, I will still wear a helmet every time I ride.
The main protective equipment used in motorcycling is the helmet. While there are different
manufactures they fall into three main categories. There is the full face helmet the covers the head and
the entire face; the three quarter helmet which covers the head, ears, and the face is open; and the half

The Battle Of Elsenborn Ridge
Battle of Elsenborn Ridge
The winter in the Ardennes is very cold; American Soldiers beaten, bloodied and depleting in
numbers. Germany has massed their best Soldiers from the Twelfth SS Panzer Division fielding the
newest and deadliest Armored Fighting vehicles the world had ever seen. However, the Americans
have an ace in the hole, The United States Army Field Artillery has made some historic and very
deadly innovations. In order to defend the Northern shoulder from being overrun by the 1st SS Panzer
Corps and the 67th Corps, the 405th FA Battalion must utilize their fortified fighting positions to
capitalize on the advancing enemy, synchronize and mass their firing capability, and utilize a newly
developed secret weapon called the Proximity Fuze to prevent the German forces from obtaining a
supply through the Twin Villages.
For seven days, the Battle of Elsenborn Ridge was valorously held by the artillery forces and Infantry
forces of the United States Army. (Starmann R. , 2015). This battle was the greatest crushing victory
of the Ardennes valley and is the only part of the Battle of the Bulge line where the Germans failed to
advance. (Starmann R. , 2015). From this ridge, the United States forces were extremely trenched in.
They used the few days leading up to this battle to maneuver more units to the ridge to help protect the
Germans from securing the two villages. These villages were critical to the Germans because without
them they would not be able to resupply

Summary of Black Hearts Essay
The 2nd Brigade of 101st Airborne Division found out in the summer of 2004 that they had to prepare

Chemy Called Al Book Summary
The book that I read was the Chemy called Al book. The book was most about a young adventures girl
that had an adventure in a place, she was trapped in a place where she learns about elements and how
they help her get out. It talked about what the elements in the periodic table do and what they are use
and some examples of the stuff made for it. The book is telling us about the states of matter and how
they are use and what they use for with the ways people interact with them.
1
Julie learns about the periodic table and how it is use and learns the states of matter and what they are.
The first one or one of the state of matter is solids. Solids are matter that have weight or shape of an
object that takes up space on earth, because It is something stable that cant move that easy. The book
and the stuff we have gone over in class are about the same like a solid is atoms that take up space on

Gas is some what air in my opinion because you cant see it but you can hear it, you can feel air from
the breeze. You can also breathe it because we breathe air for our lungs. People, animals, plants and
machines use gases or convert them into something they can use for their survival. People use gases
from or air from trees that they covert and we use to breathe, we also use gases from natural resources
for energy. Animals rely on air because plants need it to make food and animals eat the grass or their
host that does. We use machines that use gases like propane that burns like gas to make machines
function right. An example of gases is air, propane. This relates to the work we have done in class in
some ways because it talks about some of the experiments we have done with balloons and air and
how much is needed for an object to operate and work

Comparison Of My Math Strengths And Weaknesses
My Math Strengths and Weaknesses
As I am approaching the end of my educational career, it is time for me to evaluate how well I will do
teaching a subject I struggled in elementary school, math. Math is a subject I had a love hate
relationship with. I liked it when I was good and hated it when I struggled. I noticed this pattern not
only because of my abilities, but also of my teacher s abilities to teach the subject. My goal is not to be
a genius in math but I do want to be able to help and problem solve when my students have a struggle.
From kindergarten to the beginning of 1st grade, the math topic that is worked on is addition and
subtraction. According to the Texas Education Association, in kindergarten adding and subtraction ...

TEA say that students start doing repeated addition toward the end of second grade to help them
transition to multiplication in third grade (TEA, 2012). When I was in school I struggled in
multiplication, but I did not give up. What helped me get better was practice until I was able to master
each multiplication term. With the takeover of calculators, I became rusty, but in order to teach my
students, I will have to practice again just like when I was in elementary school. I also have to be
ready to take a step back and go over addition although the TEKS says to move on to multiplication.
I excel in shapes, and for elementary, shapes are taught all through out. In first grade the focus is to
identify and classifying 2 dimension shapes. In second grade they move on to composing their own 2
dimensional figure and classify 3 dimensional figures. (TEA, 2017.) For students just starting to see
shapes only know square and rectangle. There are far more variations of this common shapes like
parallelograms, and they might get confused. What I will do to prepare myself to teach these students
is create vocabulary in my mind that is at their level. This way I can further explain the formal
definition if there is any confusion.
We all struggle with word problems, but since I am going to be a teacher I don t have to be perfect but
I do need to have a sense of problem solving. What I would do to help me teach word problems is
work it out with them. That way I

Nigeria, The Niger Delta and the Nigerian Government
Nigeria might be rich in resources; its population lives in poverty. With a Multidimensional Poverty
Index (MPI) of .31, it was ranked number 157 out of the 186 United Nations (UN) member states in
2012. Also, according to the World Bank, the poverty headcount ratio was 68%, meaning this part of
the population lived with less than $1.25 a day in 2010.
The Niger Delta is one of the nine states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It counts about 20 million
people and around 70 000 km² of land. The region is one of the most prominent wetlands in the world.
Oil has produced about $600 billion since the 1960 s.
Despite its wealth in resources, the majority of the people live under poor conditions. To counter this
poverty, the Nigerian government has set up several commissions in the past. The most prominent are
the Oil Mineral Producing Areas Development Commission (OMPADEC) and the Niger Delta
Development Commission (NDDC).
The OMPADEC was established in 1993 and focused on the development of the Niger Delta Region
(NDR). It however failed due to factors as corruption, mismanagement and non sufficient funding.
Hereafter, the NDDC was to replace the OMPADEC. It would create socio economic development in
the NDR. The NDDC set up various projects in the region. However, due to the poor structure of the
organisation and inadequate funding the NDDC have

Why have Starbucks customer satisfaction scores declined? Has the company s service declined, or is
it simply measuring satisfaction the wrong way? Overall, Starbucks customer satisfaction scores
began to decline due to their steps of service and customer centric service in the stores. Starbucks
differentiated itself by providing more beverage choices and allowing the customers to customize their
drinks. However, this worked against them because they were in heavily dense areas that contributed
to longer wait time. Additionally, that led Starbucks customers to believe the coffee chain was focus

1930 1940
The 1930s brought a very turbulent time to the United States. As a result of the Stock Market Crash of
1929, the nation was experiencing a severe depression. There were hard class divisions dividing the
nation. People were either extremely rich or extremely poor. The middle class simply did not exist
(Bondi 97). On March 4, 1933 Franklin Delano Roosevelt took office with the promise of hope and
relief for struggling Americans. Roosevelt followed up his promise for help with the New Deal, his
plan to combat the depression. The New Deal involved the three R s: relief, recovery and reform. It
included measures concerning banking, securities, industry, and agriculture (Bondi 97).

This led to World War II which began on September 3, 1939 when Great Britain and France declared
war on Germany (Bondi 22). Also in the 1930s, the Hindenburg exploded in the air killing thirty six
passengers. The Hindenburg was a blimp that provided trans Atlantic air service between Germany
and America. The explosion was a great blow to the prestige of the Nazi regime (Kirshon 676).
In the 1930s, Surrealism developed in art with an emphasis on content and free form (Brittanica). As a
part of the surrealist movement, Salvador Dali painted Persistence of Memory. However, Dali was
expelled from Europe s Surrealists for his support of Franco in the Spanish civil war (Burne 996). In
the United States, art was depicting regions. Regionalism was an artistic or literary style that was tied
to American landscape. Painters such as Grant Wood and John Stuart Curry painted the landscape
while writers such as Steinbeck and Farrell wrote about specific regions in their works (Bondi 44).
Depression Modernism also developed in the United States. This movement brought gleaming black

Streamlining became the vogue in furniture and clothing, clocks, and typewriters, toasters, and

Persuasive Essay On Bee Bees
Imagine you walk into your local bistro to order your favorite tea with honey and you were told there
is no honey available. How would you feel? Would you want to become a beekeeper or have a bee
garden? This is why ordinary people should take action to make sure that honey bees do not become
extinct. More people need to care about this problem, and take action to prevent it from ever
happening. By putting these plans into action we can keep the bee population growing and ensuring
the local economy has a supply of honey. Ordinary people should become beekeepers or create bee
gardens to save the bees and the local economy.
With people doing this it will help the economy immensely. Bees are an important source of our daily
lives. The bees, pollinate many plants if it vanishes so will a huge portion of flowers and crops. This
will have a major impact on the economy as there will not be as many flowers or food around.
Restaurants benefit by being able to purchase local honey for dishes and cocktails. If honey bees
become scarce, restaurants may have to close. The restaurants would also have to get rid of the drinks
and entrees which include honey. If honey becomes scarce and restaurants close down, it would have a
major impact on the economy. Peter Spencer, who works at the Warwickshire Beekeepers Association
discusses more about the bee population and how to prevent it in the following paragraph.
Individuals do not have to do much to keep the bee population growing. Spencer says, to attract bees
we do not have to have a garden with many flowers, but it must be planted with certain flowers.
People can construct a garden in any way imaginable, it just has to have certain flowers that attract
bees. The population of honey bees will increase and the amount of honey will too. Our past President
has also joined to help bees from becoming extinct. Since 2009, the White House has maintained a
hive of 70,000 bees that produce honey for the presidential kitchen and pollinate the vegetables in
First Lady Michelle Obama s kitchen garden. As a result of the President doing this, it will influence
many other citizens to do the same considering the President is a major figure in the economy. There
will be global

Character Development In George Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
Of Mice and Men was a gripping story that was filled with a great cast of characters. Each of these
characters played a major role in the development of the story and they were mainly either flat or
round characters. One such character in the novel that had a huge role was Lennie, who possessed
immense strength yet had the mind of a young child. The development of Lennie helped advance the
plot of Of Mice and Men because his actions caused him and George to get a new job at the ranch, he
constantly worried about his rabbits, and he killed Curley s wife which ultimately brought upon his
death. Lennie s character development advances the plot of Of Mice and Men because he caused
George and him to get a new job at the ranch. This situation is mainly shown in chapter 1 when
George angrily says to Lennie Jus wanted to feel that girl s dress jus wanted to pet it like it was a
mouse Well, how the hell did she know you jus wanted to feel her dress? She jerks back and you hold
on like it was a mouse. She yells and we got to hide in a irrigation ditch all day with guys lookin for
us, and we got to sneak out in the dark and get outta the country (Steinbeck, 1937, p. 11). This quote
from the novel shows how Lennie is as a person, where he doesn t understand other people s emotions
well and acts very childish himself. The lady had made a clear indication that she doesn t want him
holding on, but he reacts by holding it even tighter, not even realizing it himself. Because of

An Illustration of State-Society Relations in Turkey Essay...
The Kemalist understanding of the secular and secularism which has characterised the institutional
and legal framework of Turkish society since the foundation of the Republic is tightly linked to the
concept of modernity. A legacy of the Enlightenment, modernisation theses hold that as reason
supplants superstition, religion s influence on society will recede. If Kant held thatt the spread of
knowledge and reason would mean [...] holding religion within the bounds of reason (Benhabib,
2010:452), Weber went further to argue that modernisation would mean dispensing with religion
altogether in the name of modern reason and an emancipated society (ibid). Such approaches were

It is on this legacy that Mustafa Kemal founded the Turkish Republic in 1923: a centralised secular
nation state. He built upon the secular institutions of the Tanzimat period and did away with the
Islamic ones to foster modernisation (to which secularisation was seen as inseparable). From a
process, secularisation turned into a project; one that would be implemented from above (Yilmaz,
2002:114). So secularism was adopted as one of the founding principles of the Turkish Republic. In
this regard, it needs to be understood with reference to the other five, and particularly to statism,
nationalism, and reformism. While Islam was held responsible for the collapse of the Ottoman empire,
secularism would be key to modernising state and society and to elevating the nation to the level of
contemporary civilisation (Shambayati and Kirdis, 2009:767). Reference to a civilising mission could
hardly be made clearer. By making the state, but also society, secular, the Kemalist project also wants
to create a new national identity. One that would not call upon ethnic or religious affiliation, but on a
secular version of Turkishness. In a Weberian logic, it was assumed that by excluding Islam from the
public sphere, its social significance would gradually erode (Fuat Keyman, 2007:219). Secularism
therefore became the official ideology of the state and the identity of the state elite (Hakan Yavuz and
Esposito, 2003:xxii).

Abortions Have Not Affected the United States Population
In what ways has legalized abortion had an impact on population? Most would expect that an increase
in the number of abortions would have an impact on the population. The reasoning being because
women, who would not have terminated their pregnancies due to abortions being illegal, now had that
option available to them. Although many think of abortion as a legacy from the 1960 s, abortions were
as frequent on the eve of the Civil War as it is now (Olasky, 1992). There were roughly 160,000
abortions in 1860 in a population of 27 million (Olasky, 1992).This was almost comparable to the
abortions today (Olasky, 1992). The number of abortions continued to rise during the second half of
the 19th and the early years of the 20th centuries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tietze used New York City as a basis for his study and the data he used was based off of estimates for
the first two years after abortion was legalized (Tietze, 1975). According to the author s estimate,
about 70 percent of the legal abortions (50,000 per year) obtained by New York City residents during
the first two years under the new law replaced illegal procedures (Tietze, 1975, p. 123). The estimate
implies that the total number of induced abortions, legal and illegal, increased about 40 percent
(Tietze, 1975). The number of live births in New York City declined by 25 percent and, Tietze s
(1975) study estimated the increased number of legal abortions were responsible for about half of the
decline in births.
To get a better idea of whether legalized abortions increased or decreased the population, populace
numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau were collected. On average, the population increases
approximately two to two and a quarter percent per year (U.S. Census Bureau, 2000).
I gathered population numbers from ten (10) years prior to the legalization of abortion and then
population numbers ten (10) years after the legalization of abortion.
From 1963 to 1973, population increased approximately an average of two to two and a quarter
percent per year (See Appendix A for population information). The exceptions were seen in the years
1970 and 1971. In the year 1970 population decreased by .63 million, or an increase of approximately
less than one

The Relationship Between A Father And Son In Big Fish By...
The relationship between a father and son is extremely important and can impact the son s actions for
the rest of his life. Trust is a crucial component to any good relationship, but especially between a
father and son. In the novel Big Fish by Daniel Wallace, William, and his father, Edward do not have a
strong connection. Edward s exaggerated stories and excessive humor prevent them from having a
deep and trusting relationship. Edward has a way of exaggerating and making up stories for William,
which makes it hard for William to trust Edward. The negative impact of his storytelling is explicitly
shown when Edward is dying in My Father s Death: Take 1 . Edward is about to pass away when he
tries to tell William another story, I ve heard about the two headed lady, I say, shaking him gently by
the shoulder. I don t want to hear about her anymore, Dad. Okay? (Wallace 23). This is one of their
last moments together and Edward is unable to talk to his own son about anything but his
melodramatic stories. William desires to truly know his father, but Edward can t open up to him. He
doesn t know a lot about Edward other than his stories, so he craves to learn more about who Edward

Pros And Cons Of Cross-Platform App Development
Native or the web is the hot topic of argument between confounded decisions makers and developers.
Considering the pros and cons of evolving technologies and analyzing its substantial effect over
business performance spawns countless arguments. With the entry of cross platform app development,
a new player has entered this longstanding debate.
What are Cross Platform Apps?
The apps compatible with individual operating systems are native apps. Whereas, mobile apps
compatible with different operating systems like android, iOS, Windows and Blackberry OS are called
as Cross Platform Apps. Also called as hybrid apps, they are developed using native widgets or Web

Entrepreneurs after opting for hybrid mobile development are rewarded with a prime benefit of
building once and getting the app deployed on multiple platforms. Nevertheless, cross platform apps
come with few drawbacks, they do not take high graphics with additional fluidity and they consume a

Startups are using cross platform mobile app development as a tool to penetrate the market and then
replacing it with the native apps. Even you can do so.
When it comes to mobile app development, then it is very much hard for a novice entrepreneur to

Kingdom Of Israel Essay
Following the United Monarchy separating into two different nations the Kingdom of Israel,
sometimes referred to as Samaria, existed with nineteen kings for two hundred and seven years from
928 to 721BC. Consisting of ten of the twelve tribes Reuben, Simeon, Issachar, Zebulun, Dan,
Naphtali, Gad, Ash, Ephraim and Manasseh. The Kingdom of Israel became weakened after the
breakup of the United Monarchy which the Egyptians take advantage of in 925BC when they invaded
and made the Kingdom of Israel a vassal nation of Egypt followed by the Kingdom of Ammon which
gains its independence from the Kingdom of Israel. Jeroboam I the first king of the Kingdom of Israel
from 928 to 907BC, created worship centers in the cities of Bethel and Dan and encouraged the people
to return to their worshipping of pagan deities such as El, Asherah, Baal and Dagan from the
Canaanite Pantheon. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Advantages Of English In Chinese Culture
The integration of aspects from other cultures in a culture is an example of culture hybridization; the
English language has been recently used in China regularly. English itself has been becoming a
worldwide language, about 300 million to 450 million people on Earth are native English speakers and
more than 1 billion people in total know how to speak English ( English as a Global Language ). In
China, English is taught in schools of all levels and individuals are even learning the language on their
leisure time. There are about 400 million learners of English just in China ( English Language
Teaching and Learning at the National Level in China 5). In lower education schools, such as primary
and secondary school, English is intensively taught and studied. English is one of the optional subjects
on a Chinese exam called China s National College Entrance Examine, which is similar to the SATs
taken by students in America (10). In postsecondary educationC or higher education, English is the
most in play in China (10). Anywhere on campus, one can see students conversing and studying
English. All higher education students are required to take 2 years of English regardless of their
majors and for English majors, 4 or more years of English are required (10). To incorporation of
English in Chinese culture can be identified as cultural hybridization.
Music is a way to show feelings and expressions that represent a culture. It can also be known as a
way of communication that breaks

A Comparison of Two Poems Presents from my Aunts in...
A Comparison of Two Poems Presents from my Aunts in Pakistan by Moniza Alvi and Search for my
Tongue by Sujata Bhatt
In this essay, I will be showing you how the writers use their own poetic devices within their work to
their advantage and how the poets have used different themes to overcome in their own poems.
To begin this essay, I will be presenting to you how Alvi and Bhatt have used different viewpoints
within their poems to put across their message to the reader.
In the poem Presents from my Aunts in Pakistan , Alvi chooses to present her work in the narrative
viewpoint of the first person, reducing the chance of her poem being a conversational one. She then
chooses to phrase her work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, if you examine the structure of the poem, you find that the Gujarati language is sandwiched in
between the English language. This is obviously a reflection of the poet s feelings on how her
language is treated second class to that of the English.
Throughout both poems, the main issue is about how have both the poets adjusted to the change in
culture and society.
In Presents from my Aunts in Pakistan , the poet takes to the English culture almost instantaneously
(e.g. fashion) even though she is subconsciously aware that she is Pakistani.
In Search for my Tongue , the poet almost forgets her foundations and adjusts well. But, she finds her
vernacular tongue towards the end of the poem which makes her feel guilty and angry at the same
time for forgetting it. Yet, she only seems to feel bad when she remembers that she s not English.
There seems to be a whole range of different cultures mentioned within both poems.
In Presents from my Aunts in Pakistan , there is a mixture of different issues in the text including
clothing, friends and presents. salwar kameez is a Pakistani traditional costume, but she tends to be
more interested in impressing her new peers, so she wears clothes from Marks Spencer s .
In Search for my Tongue , the only theme that is dealt with is the differences in the languages. The
poem focuses on a mix of English and

Angels in America Essay
Angels in America
Everyone has his or her own personal faults in life. Some are looked down upon more for their issues
than others are. Homosexual relationships are considered sacrilegious and unethical, so much that we
scrutinize persons having those relations. We as a society should not look down upon individuals
whose sexual preference is different from our own.
The 80 s were a time of economic growth and global power. It is also the setting for Tony Kushner s
play, Angels in America . In Kushner s play it was at time of gay revelation. Reagan s reforms and
policies gave homosexual people the power and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joe is married to Harper, a woman who is addicted to Valium. He is like Roy Cohn in that he is a well
respected person whose career would be affected if it came out that he was gay. Joe s situation is
different from Roy s because he is a married man that is on an adventurous path towards love. He is
experimenting with his sexuality, not really sure of what path to take. When Joe tells his mother,
Hannah, she is furious and does not believe him. Her Mormon son is a homosexual, a hard concept for
her to understand. He is scared to reveal his secret life to society for the fear of resentment. This is true
in society that we criticize those who are in a homosexual relationship. Mathew Sheppard is an
obvious example. He was a teenager murdered because he was gay in a society that does not accept
such behavior. Whose at fault for his murder, his killers or society?
Prior is another homosexual man in Kushner s play. He is different from Roy and Joe because he is not
a professional. Prior is also affected by the

Dragon Fly Lesson
First Grade Literacy Dragon Fly Lesson
The lesson plan lists the vocabulary words and objectives needed to complete the lesson. Because
there are insufficient SEI strategies, the instructor uses a graphic organizer such as four corners, which
is excellent for ELLs, however it lacks differentiation instruction for the varied levels of student
learners in the classroom. The Levels for English Proficiency indicated from beginning to advance but
differentiated instruction is not indicated for the levels. Students have been studying the Dragon Fly
unit for a few weeks however ELLs at the beginning level will possibly need picture card to fill the
graphic organizer in order to label the dragon fly or assist them in writing complete sentences. The
instructor provides a student model for the dry erase board on drawing a dragon fly while other

This strategy is used to determine the student s knowledge and culture background as to what they
would see on a farm when going a field trip. Anticipation guides stimulate students interest in a topic
and set a purpose for reading, (Duffelmeyer, 1994). This strategy is an excellent way of assessing
student s content comprehension prior to the students attending a farm for the class field trip.
The activities strategized in the lesson plan can be accomplished in small group or as a class group
with teacher lead instruction. This strategy will encourage students to have open dialogue about the
choices and answers when collaborating with their groups or the class. Anticipation guides does an

John Smith vs. William Bradford Essay
John Smith vs. William Bradford Laura Ward To many Europeans in the early 17th century the
Americas seemed as a new land of opportunity. John Smith and William Bradford were two of the first
men who left England seeking adventure and freedom in the New World. Both groups had difficulties
while trying to form their colonies and Smith and Bradford were both elected to lead. While they were
both great leaders they had very different lives before their journey from England. While starting their
new colonies they also took different approaches to making the land habitable. One of the most
notable differences between John Smith and William Bradford was their writing style. John Smith and
William Bradford were very different people in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Smith returned to England in 1609 after being accidentally being wounded. John Smith had a very
interesting writing style; he was able to add his own special flourishes to his work while keeping it
informative. His journal was a way for him to encourage more people to come to Jamestown or settle
their own colonies. In his journal he often glossed over the bad things that happened or explained that
all of the problems were due to inexperience. His journal showed all of the adventure but little of the
consequences and there were several times that he could have died. Smith was an egoist and his
writing reflects the way he would build himself up though several of the events in his journal that are
unlikely to have ever happened. William Bradford, like Smith, was born in England and became an
orphan young in his life. In his youth he lived with several different family members but never stayed
anywhere too long. When he was 12 years old he began attending a separatist church the neighboring
town of Scrooby. By the time he was 17 he was a full member of the church and considered separating
from the official Church of England. Seeking religious freedom Bradford and other members of the
church fled to the Netherlands. English influence eventually forced the Separatist out of the
Netherlands and they fled to the New World. When they

My Favorite Words
I remember countless little episodes in my life where if my sister said a certain word to me, I would be
on the floor laughing within seconds. It seemed almost as if when we got older, we started becoming
more clever in choosing the words that would bring us to the point where we were peeing our pants.
From preschool to the end of elementary school my sister and I would always find something, be it a
phrase, word, or just a very strange idea that made us giggle until our mom started laughing at the
mere sight of us rolling on the floor in tears. These words cycled at a rate of a new word about every
month.
One of the first words evoking laughter was pickle . It was a simple word, but at that point it was
enough to make us giggle. Don t ask me why, but five year old me got a kick out of the word. I would
get off the bus from a long, three hours of half day kindergarten at Evamere Elementary School, my
Pokémon cards in hand, and as always, saw my sister waiting for me as I approached the house
through the garage. She had long bangs going down to her eyes which she refused to cut, and she had
her stuffed animal dog on a leash in tow behind her, its dirty body dragging through God knows what
on the kitchen floor. She was the classic toddler. She saw me and her eyes lit up because she knew that
just one word uttered from the day before would make me laugh hysterically. I knew what she was
thinking. I knew what she was going to say, but it didn t matter because when I heard her

Loss Of Identity In Alan Moore s Watchmen
Rorschach s journal from the grave: It has been sometime since the comedian died. From then on
nothing has been a laughing matter. Us watchmen have been through nuclear war, murder, and ice
cold twists and turns. I feel like our story could be influential to anyone s life.
Through Alan Moore s exquisite writing and plot twists he encompasses identity, real world problems,
and non
superhero like storytelling.
Identity is one reason why Alan Moore s Watchmen is one of the most influential books of all time.
Each character in this novel has their own identity and viewpoint of the world. The most amazing
example of this is Rorschach. He is my favorite character in this book simply because his viewpoint
on the world is to lookout for himself and what he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that this takes place in USA late 1900s makes this book more relatable. Also this novel has
problems such as love, hatred, and violent crime. These real world problems are what makes this
novel even relatable. There is nothing like seeing superheros go through the same struggles we go
through daily. Finally, another reason why this book is very influential is that even though it is a novel
about superheroes it does not follow how, normally, a superhero story would be told. For example, in
Superman comics, the clear villain is Lex Luthor and the clear hero is none other than
Superman. However in Watchmen Adrian Veidt was thought to be a superhero for most of the novel
until it was revealed that he was actually a villain. Also, the watchmen are supposed to be heroes yet
most of them come from terrible or violent backgrounds. This makes this novel that much more
riveting.
In Summation, Alan Moore s Watchmen is one of the best novels of all time. I believe it is because
this book is the embodiment of identity, real world problems, and non
superhero like storytelling.
Identity in this novel is led by in my opinion the best character Rorschach

Snapper,
I have been a faithful employee in this company for the past four years. My time at the company has
been good one so far, but now a problem has crept up, which threatens to disrupt my otherwise
peaceful time at the company. This letter is regarding the behavior of my immediate head, Mr. Spencer
Gibson. Mr. Gibson is the head at the Marketing Department from the last two months, and for some
reason of his own, he has singled me out to harass.
Ever since, he was transferred from another department to head the marketing division, he has
managed to find some fault with me, even if there are none. I am constantly accused of not completing
my daily work despite me meeting all my daily targets. Many times I have been kept out of team
meetings. The formats for the reports are changed, and Mr. Gibson conveniently forgets to inform me
about it, so that he has another reason to point fingers at me. On the 23rd of July, Mr. Gibson denied
me a leave of two days, despite knowing that my wife was admitted in the hospital. I did not face any
such problems from my previous Head of Department, Mr. Kyle Edwards, who got promoted to
another department. You can even contact Mr. Edwards to check on my

A Powerful Philosophy Of The Sacramento Technology Industry
A Powerful Philosophy He was much shorter than I expected when I met him; standing at only five
feet three inches. I had woken up that morning with a feeling of anticipation. Hundreds of questions
bounced around in my head and I was finally going to meet the guy whom I hoped had all the
answers. I quickly got dressed in my form fitting suit, ate breakfast, and then eagerly started the thirty
minute drive to Folsom. That afternoon I had lunch with Mr.Lokesh Sikaria. Mr.Sikaria is one of the
most prominent business men in the Sacramento technology industry and I reached out to him because
I was extremely interested in pursuing a similar career. Mr.Sikaria, who received a master s in
electrical engineering and a minor in business from the University of California Berkeley, initiated his
career at a small consulting firm. He quickly moved to a chief operator position at Rapidigm Inc
where he controlled millions of dollars in company revenue. A few years later, he started his own IT
consulting firm, which was wildly successful, and now operates a venture capital firm in Folsom
California. There is no doubt in my mind that Mr. Sikaria is very successful personally, but what really
makes him stand out is his ability to be successful personally and help the community at the same
time. The ability to do this is impressive and should be imitated by everyone in order to have a greater
impact on the world.
To succeed personally is to do and accomplish things that enhance your own

Types Of Extreme Temperatures Affect Enzyme Activity
Observing Enzyme Catalysis
Purpose:
Procedure A (Testing Enzyme Activity) How do different types of extreme temperatures affect enzyme
activity?
Procedure B (Establishing a Baseline) How much peroxide is needed to establish a baseline for a 1.5%
solution?
Procedure C (Rate of Hydrogen Peroxide Spontaneous Decomposition) How do oxygen and water
affect the spontaneous decomposition of hydrogen peroxide?
Procedure D (Rate of Hydrogen Peroxide Decomposition by Enzyme Catalysis) How does different
titration techniques affect the rate of hydrogen peroxide decomposition by enzyme catalysis?
Hypothesis:
Procedure A (Testing Enzyme Activity) In some conditions, a reaction will occur and in others no
reaction will happen.
Procedure B (Establishing a Baseline) The amount of KMnO4 added to the solution is proportional to
the amount of hydrogen peroxide present in the solution.
Procedure C (Rate of Hydrogen Peroxide Spontaneous Decomposition) The amount of hydrogen
peroxide left after 24 hours of sitting out at room temperature will be less than the initial amount.
Procedure D (Rate of Hydrogen Peroxide Decomposition by Enzyme Catalysis) In the presence of the
catalase, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) will decompose at a faster rate.
Data and Observations: Procedure A was an experiment on observing how different effects of extreme
temperatures have on enzyme catalysis. There are three parts in this experiment. In part 1, we took a
syringe labeled H2O2 and used it

Research Paper On Serena Williams Serena Williams Attributes Her Success to Jehovah God Serena Williams is the best women s tennis player in the world today, and has been virtually unbeatable during much of the last two decades. At 33 years old, she is the oldest woman to win a grand slam event in the open era, she has 21 slam victories just 1 behind Stephi Graf for the most in the open era, and is only three slam wins behind Margaret Court, the phenom of the 60s and 70s, for the most slam wins in history. If she wins the U.S. Open later his year, she will be the first woman to complete the calendar year slam since Graf did it in 1998. Certainly a great work ethic plays a part, and her conditioning is top notch. If you ask her coaches they will tell you about her exercise regimen and diet. If you ask Williams herself, you may just get a smile, or you may get to hear about her faith in Jehovah God. Williams does not talk about her faith much, but she is a Jehovah s Witness and attributes her success to her faith. When she wins, she typically starts a victory interview with I want to thank Jehovah God. Jehovah Witnesses do not typically support organized sports and are rarely athletes. According to the Huffington Post, the Witnesses avoid sports since they promote nationalism, violence and celebrity all things Witnesses are supposed to avoid. Williams still participates in church services and has witnessed door to door. She prays, and trusts that Jehovah God will give her strength to do her best. Once, after winning the the Australian Open she said, I was down and out and he helped me today and I just said prayers, not to win but to be strong and to be healthy and in the end I was able to come through so I have to give the glory to him first and ... • 3. Differences Between Diurnal And Nocturnal Primates I chose to write my paper on the differences between diurnal and nocturnal primates. I chose this topic because I thought it sounded interesting. I also chose it because I have horrible night vision and have trouble driving at night, so I thought it would be cool to learn how certain primates live in darkness and how their eyes work. This topic is relevant to biological anthropology because we learned about all different types of primates throughout the course and their characteristics including: social behaviors, diets, nocturnal vs. diurnal, and many other aspects of primate life. We didn t get to go into detail about many of the primates and see the differences in nocturnal versus diurnal. In my paper I decided to key in on two specific animals, the owl money and brown lemur. I did this because I wanted to get to know more about each animal and the owl monkey has a very unique story. I also chose to narrow in on the main difference between all diurnal and nocturnal animals and that is the eyes. In my paper I will talk about the behavioral differences between the owl monkey and brown lemur (I will also go into some detail about each of the primates, because I thought they both were fascinating), the differences in the eyes, and also just some other general facts about diurnal and nocturnal primates. The first thing I m going to talk about is the differences in the eyes of nocturnal and diurnal primates. One thing that is very fascinating to me is that many primates ... Visiting a new country, moving to a new house, trying new foods, being exposed to different languages, getting to know new people as well as cultures, are experiences that everybody has on their bucket list. However, doing it all at once to adopt a new lifestyle can be too much for a teenager. Back in 2008, I was sixteen years old and going in 12th grade. My parents made a decision that changed the course of our lives. They decided to leave our home country, the Dominican Republic and start a new life here in the United States. • 5. Love and Marriage in Pride and Prejudice Essays How does Jane Austen present love and marriage in Pride and Prejudice? Jane Austen presents love and marriage in many ways in the novel Pride and Prejudice. In this essay I am going to discuss some of these marriages, not only from Jane Austen s portrayl of her characters but also from my own point of view. Jane Austen opens Pride and Prejudice with a statement: It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must want be in want of a wife. By using this statement as her opening line she makes it very clear that she is humoured by the idea that every young an who has a large sum of money are eagerly looking for a wife. The main part of her book is based on matrimony. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Mr Bennet speaks to his beloved daughter Lizzie, he feelingly says to her, My dear child, let me not have the grief of seeing you unable to respect your partner in life. You know not what you are about. This happens when Mr Darcy has just proposed to Elizabeth. When I question why Mr and Mrs Bennet s marriage is so unsuccessful, I am faced with three points that I think contribute to their marital problem. Between Mr and Mrs Bennet there is no intellectual equality. Mr Bennet is clever, but on the other hand his wife isn t, in fact Mrs Bennet is a fool! She does not understand her husband in the slightest manner, and so Mr Bennet frequently takes this opportunity to make a quick comment that will offend Mrs Bennet. Jane Austen says, The experience of three and twenty years had been insufficient to make his wife understand his temper. These twenty three years of his unhappy marriage had brought Mrs Bennet s characteristics out in a true light. She was a woman of mean understanding, very little information and an uncertain temper. She fancied herself nervous whenever she felt discontented. The business of her life was to get her daughters married, it seemed that was all the poor woman ever went on a bout and it infuriated Mr Bennet greatly. The second point is that Mr Bennet never showed any respect for his wife and almost seemed to enjoy ridiculing her in front of her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Essay on The Boondock Saints’ Positive Deviance The movie The Boondock Saints provides an excellent example of positive deviance through innovation. The Social theory of deviance can easily explain the brothers actions. The movie can be used to study deviance as the brothers kill people who are mafia members, breaking the norms of society. Even though the acts they are committing are clearly illegal and deviant, the people of South Boston do not react in a negative way. Since the Social theory is very broad, it will be easier to look at the brother s acts under three sub theories: Labeling, Conflict and Strain theories. The Social theory of deviance explains why people break social norms, and what their motivation may be for doing so. The brothers undoubtedly break one of the ... Because of the positive connotation of the label that they are given by the media, they realize that the people living in the city would not have a major problem with them killing the top members of the mafia to make the city more peaceful. As they become better at killing the top mafia members, some of the citizens even go as far as to call the brothers Angels . With the majority of the city supporting the brothers killings, they see no reason why they should stop. Instead they take it to the next level with the help of more positive labels, and make it more of an occupation, they compare themselves to 7 11 as they are not always doing business, but they are always open. Without the labels that the media gives them, it would not be possible to continue on with their work of reducing crime. If the labels were originally negative after their first encounter with the two mafia members, there would be no reason for them to continue, as no one would approve of their acts. After the last scene of the movie, there are interviews with the citizens of South Boston. During the interviews, most of the people are starting to give the brothers negative labels calling them criminals. Since the labels are becoming more and more negative, the brothers leave and go back to Ireland where they grew up. The Labeling theory is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Rough Draft About Friendship Friendship draft A true friend is someone who would stop whatever they are doing to help you through anything and you would do the same for them. In a friendship both people need to posses the same essential traits for the friendship to be successful. Friends are a big part of my life because without them life would be very dull. I think God made us to find people that we are compatible with so we can go through life together. Three traits that a person should posses to be a good friend are honesty, loyalty and encouragement. In my experience my friends who live out all three of these traits fully, are my closest friends and I hold the same traits back to them. Honesty is a difficult subject when it comes to friendship. There are two ways it can go. The first scenario being one lies to their friend because they think they are protecting their feelings. This case is bad because if you are always lying to your friend they are not going to trust you. The second scenario is you are always honest to your friend about everything. When you are being too honest it can be taken offensively and hurt the friendship. True friends find the perfect balance between the two. This study is not focusing on that realm but rather the internal migrations that have been happening in Latin America in particular from rural areas to urban areas and that has been accentuated since the 1940s. The rapid urbanization of Latin America, and the concentration of masses of people in the great cities made internal migration an area of attraction for further analysis. This time with real money. There were a surprise earnings. The company beat expectations by a long shot. I knew in my mind that this was not correct. The foremost reason for my dislike was that this book was just an illustration about Lynch s experiences and all about how meditating helped him which might be disappointing for the readers like me because this book can be seen as completely lacking the dramatic tension that readers like me expects from a book. Secondly, I felt that the information provided in this book was fragmented and not very well structured and it seems that author was free to write his experiences into bits and pieces without putting any extra efforts towards character development, story arcs and plotting. If you are not a fan of David Lynch and are not known to his works you will be really disappointed. On the other hand, if you are a great fan of Lynch it is a great book to read for you because every fan desires to know more about his role model s inspiration, how he develop ideas, what are the pushing factors for his works and this book contains it all. It contains everything from Lynch s experiences to his inspirations and push factors for his creative thinking. It is a great book for the ones who want to understand Lynch more deeply. One of such conversations is virtual reality, which plays a major role in the discourse of my academic community. As one of the major research areas in this discourse community, people in this community are talking about different ways virtual reality can be implemented into classes or throughout campus. Virtual reality has both positive and negative constraints. One positive constraint is the abundance of virtual reality products that are created by a wide range of companies. In this academic discourse community, a positive constraint is everyone researching virtual reality can interact and use the technology for further research in the field. One negative constraint is that despite these welcomed innovations, virtual reality also poses some problems, one of them being how expensive the technology is to the average consumer. More specifically in this academic discourse community, another negative constraint is the technology can be dangerous if not handled properly by students or professors. Virtual reality is currently in early development but as it evolves it has the potential to be as great as the iPhone in sales. During the Red Spot Technique, after looking in the mirror, chimpanzees used their fingers to touch the red dot that was on their forehead and even after touching the red dot they would smell their fingertips. Animals that can recognize themselves in mirrors can conceive of themselves, says Gallup. This would mean that the chimpanzees would possess self awareness. Note that the chimpanzees have had experience with a mirror before the Red Spot Technique was performed. Just like the rest of the world, Brazil is stating how the amount of motorcycles on the roadways have increased over the last few years. Like all other countries people are looking for a cheaper easier mode of transportation. This study looked at the amount the insurance companies had to pay for motorcycle patients who wear a helmet to the ones who did not. They found that on average the amount spent on medical care for a no helmet patient was $5.5 billion. For the patients that wore a motorcycle helmet the price dropped to $3.3 billion. They also noted that the chance of survival increase with wearing a helmet then without, with a Glasgow Coma Scale score of 8 or lower and less likely to die from their injuries. I believe that studies like this need to be incorporated into motorcycle training environments, informing the riders on all the facts. Even with me leaving a place that has a mandatory helmet law, and going to a state that doesn t require helmet use, I will still wear a helmet every time I ride. Would you want to become a beekeeper or have a bee garden? This is why ordinary people should take action to make sure that honey bees do not become extinct. More people need to care about this problem, and take action to prevent it from ever happening. By putting these plans into action we can keep the bee population growing and ensuring the local economy has a supply of honey. Ordinary people should become beekeepers or create bee gardens to save the bees and the local economy. With people doing this it will help the economy immensely. Bees are an important source of our daily lives. The bees, pollinate many plants if it vanishes so will a huge portion of flowers and crops. This will have a major impact on the economy as there will not be as many flowers or food around. Restaurants benefit by being able to purchase local honey for dishes and cocktails. If honey bees become scarce, restaurants may have to close. The restaurants would also have to get rid of the drinks and entrees which include honey. If honey becomes scarce and restaurants close down, it would have a major impact on the economy. Peter Spencer, who works at the Warwickshire Beekeepers Association discusses more about the bee population and how to prevent it in the following paragraph. The Kemalist understanding of the secular and secularism which has characterised the institutional and legal framework of Turkish society since the foundation of the Republic is tightly linked to the concept of modernity. If Kant held thatt the spread of knowledge and reason would mean [...] holding religion within the bounds of reason (Benhabib, 2010:452), Weber went further to argue that modernisation would mean dispensing with religion altogether in the name of modern reason and an emancipated society (ibid). It is on this legacy that Mustafa Kemal founded the Turkish Republic in 1923: a centralised secular nation state. He built upon the secular institutions of the Tanzimat period and did away with the Islamic ones to foster modernisation (to which secularisation was seen as inseparable). From a process, secularisation turned into a project; one that would be implemented from above (Yilmaz, 2002:114). So secularism was adopted as one of the founding principles of the Turkish Republic. In this regard, it needs to be understood with reference to the other five, and particularly to statism, nationalism, and reformism. While Islam was held responsible for the collapse of the Ottoman empire, secularism would be key to modernising state and society and to elevating the nation to the level of contemporary civilisation (Shambayati and Kirdis, 2009:767). Reference to a civilising mission could hardly be made clearer. By making the state, but also society, secular, the Kemalist project also wants to create a new national identity. One that would not call upon ethnic or religious affiliation, but on a secular version of Turkishness. In a Weberian logic, it was assumed that by excluding Islam from the public sphere, its social significance would gradually erode (Fuat Keyman, 2007:219). Secularism therefore became the official ideology of the state and the identity of the state elite (Hakan Yavuz and Esposito, 2003:xxii). However, Ataturk did not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Abortions Have Not Affected the United States Population In what ways has legalized abortion had an impact on population? Most would expect that an increase in the number of abortions would have an impact on the population. The reasoning being because women, who would not have terminated their pregnancies due to abortions being illegal, now had that option available to them. Although many think of abortion as a legacy from the 1960 s, abortions were as frequent on the eve of the Civil War as it is now (Olasky, 1992). There were roughly 160,000 abortions in 1860 in a population of 27 million (Olasky, 1992).This was almost comparable to the abortions today (Olasky, 1992). The number of abortions continued to rise during the second half of the 19th and the early years of the 20th centuries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tietze used New York City as a basis for his study and the data he used was based off of estimates for the first two years after abortion was legalized (Tietze, 1975). According to the author s estimate, about 70 percent of the legal abortions (50,000 per year) obtained by New York City residents during the first two years under the new law replaced illegal procedures (Tietze, 1975, p. 123). The estimate implies that the total number of induced abortions, legal and illegal, increased about 40 percent (Tietze, 1975). The number of live births in New York City declined by 25 percent and, Tietze s (1975) study estimated the increased number of legal abortions were responsible for about half of the decline in births. To get a better idea of whether legalized abortions increased or decreased the population, populace numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau were collected. On average, the population increases approximately two to two and a quarter percent per year (U.S. Census Bureau, 2000). I gathered population numbers from ten (10) years prior to the legalization of abortion and then population numbers ten (10) years after the legalization of abortion. From 1963 to 1973, population increased approximately an average of two to two and a quarter percent per year (See Appendix A for population information). The exceptions were seen in the years 1970 and 1971. In the year 1970 population decreased by .63 million, or an increase of approximately less than one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We had to land the life flight because the accident was so awful. I was around fourteen years old and I never saw anyone pass away before. The ambulance heaved up, and the crew of the helicopter came running over. The guy was a bloody chaos, and he was having a rigid time staying alive. They kept pushing down on his chest for a while until they finally announced that he was deceased. He had major bleeding on the inside and out. That day I saw someone just fade. Trust is a crucial component to any good relationship, but especially between a father and son. In the novel Big Fish by Daniel Wallace, William, and his father, Edward do not have a strong connection. Edward s exaggerated stories and excessive humor prevent them from having a deep and trusting relationship. The negative impact of his storytelling is explicitly shown when Edward is dying in My Father s Death: Take 1 . Edward is about to pass away when he tries to tell William another story, I ve heard about the two headed lady, I say, shaking him gently by the shoulder. I don t want to hear about her anymore, Dad. John Smith had a very interesting writing style; he was able to add his own special flourishes to his work while keeping it informative. His journal was a way for him to encourage more people to come to Jamestown or settle their own colonies. In his journal he often glossed over the bad things that happened or explained that all of the problems were due to inexperience. His journal showed all of the adventure but little of the consequences and there were several times that he could have died. Smith was an egoist and his writing reflects the way he would build himself up though several of the events in his journal that are unlikely to have ever happened. William Bradford, like Smith, was born in England and became an orphan young in his life. In his youth he lived with several different family members but never stayed anywhere too long. It seemed almost as if when we got older, we started becoming more clever in choosing the words that would bring us to the point where we were peeing our pants. From preschool to the end of elementary school my sister and I would always find something, be it a phrase, word, or just a very strange idea that made us giggle until our mom started laughing at the mere sight of us rolling on the floor in tears. These words cycled at a rate of a new word about every month. One of the first words evoking laughter was pickle . It was a simple word, but at that point it was enough to make us giggle. Don t ask me why, but five year old me got a kick out of the word. I would get off the bus from a long, three hours of half day kindergarten at Evamere Elementary School, my Pokémon cards in hand, and as always, saw my sister waiting for me as I approached the house through the garage. These real world problems are what makes this novel even relatable. There is nothing like seeing superheros go through the same struggles we go through daily. Finally, another reason why this book is very influential is that even though it is a novel about superheroes it does not follow how, normally, a superhero story would be told. For example, in Superman comics, the clear villain is Lex Luthor and the clear hero is none other than Superman. However in Watchmen Adrian Veidt was thought to be a superhero for most of the novel until it was revealed that he was actually a villain.
