Neurone Function Essay
Membrane proteins are found in all cell membranes and it is these that determine the majority of the
membranes functions. There are often two types of membrane protein and these can be classified as
integral proteins and peripheral proteins. Integral proteins are situated in the hydrophobic interior part
of the phospholipid bilayer and can have hydrophilic channels that allow the passage of hydrophilic
substances across the membrane. Where as, peripheral proteins are not embedded in the bilayer at all
and are instead loosely bound to the surface of the membrane. Neurons are the basic units of the
nervous system and are involved in the transmission of impulses to all different parts of the body.
Membrane proteins are of great importance when it comes to considering the function of neurones
within the body, as many of the processes that occur would not be possible without the action of
proteins.
One of the key ways that membrane proteins are involved in neurone function is through the
formation of the resting potential. The resting potential is the charge difference across a cell
membrane when a neurone is at rest and not sending a signal, typically between 60 and 80 millivolts.
Potassium and Sodium ions play a fundamental role in the formation of the resting potential (Professor
Sandidge/Moyle, 2012) and these ions each have a concentration gradient across the membrane of a
neuron. In the majority of neurones, the concentration of potassium is greater inside the cell,

Metal Catalyzed Carbon
Recently metal catalyzed carbon carbon and carbon heteroatom cross coupling reactions have been
developed as an important reaction class in chemical synthesis.1 Nowadays, there is a variety of
competitive methods for synthesis of aryl nucleophile bonds with various sources of C , O , N , P , and
S nucleophiles.1 5 Researchers have extensively applied palladium based catalysts in cross coupling
reactions in both academic and industrial settings,5, 6 however, our goal is the development of a range
of copper based catalysts for cross coupling reactions. Copper assisted Sonogashira type coupling
reactions are valuable transformations for organic synthesis. C C bond formation between aryl halides
and terminal aryl and alkyl alkynes affords the corresponding substituted internal alkynes. Alkynes are
the building blocks of a wide range of pharmaceuticals, natural products, biologically active
molecules, conducting polymers, nonlinear, optical and liquid crystal materials.7 12 The routine
reaction method for Sonogashira type coupling is the use of a palladium based catalyst and a copper(I)
salt as a co catalyst.13 The role of the copper co catalyst is to produce a copper acetylide intermediate
that subsequently transmetallates to the palladium center. In recent years, many different catalytic
systems including copper free palladium based catalysts have been applied for this reaction,14, 15 but
the use of effective palladium free systems would obviously be much more interesting in

The Bible As Tool For Guide Them Throughout Their...
In the Seventh day Adventist church uses the Bible as tool to guide them throughout their Christian
lives. The Bible teaches beliefs that the Christian are expected to follow and apply to their lives. Along
with following these beliefs, Christians are expected to teach these beliefs as well, so that future
generations may carry them out and be a positive example of the church. One the beliefs is the trinity.
In Ephesians 4:4 6 it is written that There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one
hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism: one God and Father of all, who is over
all and through all and in all . There is one God, who in Himself is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit;
the unity of the three; Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one (Deuteronomy 6:4). The
trinity is God, who is immortal, all knowing, and above all. God is all powerful, love, worth of our
worship, ever present, and who created everything. In 2 Corinthians 13:14 May the grace of the Lord
Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all , explaining
that the trinity, who carries multiple characteristics, is with us to guide us. Another belief is the
creation. In Isaiah 45: 18 it is written that For this is what the Lord says he who created the heaves, he
is God; he would fashion and made the earth; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he
did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited

Hieroglyphics and History of Mathematics
Hieroglyphics deal a lot with the history of math, because it was one of the earliest of maths. The
ancient Egyptians were the first civilization to practice the scientific arts. It is said that the Egyptians
introduced the earliest fully developed base 10 numeration systems at least as early as 2700 B.C. The
word chemistry is derived from the word Alchemy which is the ancient name for Egypt. It was
between the third and first millennia B.C. It later then died in 400 AD. This was first used as legal
matters such as commerce, education, literature, and science. This type of math was mostly used by
Egyptians, but there numbering was different than ours today. Instead of them using numbers they
would use pictures to illustrate the numbers.
It is said that hieroglyphics were created by the Egyptian god Thoth. He is said to be the god of the
moon, magic, and writing. Hieroglyph comes from the root word hieros which is Greek meaning
sacred, and the root word glypho which means inscription. Hieroglyphs were first used by Clement of
Alexandria.
It was first used in ancient Egypt, as a decimal numbering system. But the decimal was non positional;
it could deal with numbers of great scale. Egyptian used this method mostly in medicine and
geometry. The earliest known examples of hieroglyphs in Egypt have been dated to 3,400 BC. The
latest date in hieroglyphs was made on the gate post of a temple at Philae in 396 AD. The Egyptians
were really involved in medicine and applied

Comparative Religion
Comparative Religion:
Religion is a common set of belief held by different individuals available within a society. Religion
concerns itself with purpose, cause, and nature considered for the creation of a superhuman agency
fitted with several moral codes. The codes provide guidance on how humans should conduct
themselves throughout their life time. Religious beliefs are known to fall into a pattern of 8 different
elements such as the belief system, community, central myths, rituals, an ethical system, experiences
of the emotions, expressing religion in a material manner, and the ability of being sacred (Jacobs,
2005).
Religious Beliefs Patterns:

The followers of this movement are not allowed to smoke, gamble, take alcohol, engage in a
homosexual behavior and premarital sex, and do drugs. Moreover, they are also required to keep their
jobs and any involved secular connections with the world (Penny, 2005).
In addition to the above ethical system, the followers to this movement are required to carry out
exercises which involve some identified movement styles such as slow qigong while one follower is
seated and four others are standing. The reason behind this is that; the followers to this movement
hold an ethical belief that performing these form of exercises and combining it with the act of
upholding an ethical belief system bring an individual closer to enlightenment after curing certain
diseases.
Falun Gong does not pay attention to all the eight elements of religion since there are others which are
totally absent. The movement has no leader and at the same time does not carry out any form of rituals
unlike the Christian religion. In addition to this, the movement does not hold central myths. They are
however known to express their religion in a material manner such as through performing exercises
while holding a belief that it is a way of keeping illnesses away and enhancing enlightenment (Penny,
2005).
Some of Falun Gong s religious elements do not hold more weight compared to other elements since
there are only limited number of elements which the movement pays attention to. The other available

Parent Parents And Aladdin s Message In The Little Mermaid
The message delivered by Disney movies is definetily not something children need to learn from. For
example, in the movie The Little Mermaid, we see so many wrong things that are taught to little girls.
First, we see a mermaid who strongly dislikes everything she has just because she wants to be like a
human. We want little girls in this generation to accept who they are, where they come from, and
value their roots, sadly this movie is sending a completely different message. Secondly, she sacrifices
her singing abilities, home, social standards, and her family to be with a guy she barely knows. Clearly
this is teaching girls to run off to the first guy they find handsome and charming without knowing
much about him. Most importantly we want children of the next generation to know morals. ... Show

In Aladdin, he steals and lies just to get on the good side of the princess. If young kids watch these
kind of movies they are going to grow up thinking that this is the only way to impress a lady. That s
not right! We obviously want our kids to grow up with morals and Aladdin is not teaching this to kids.
Even though Disney films are meant for young audience, the people actually making it just can t help
sliding in some cruel adult jokes. In Toy Story 3, the gang learns how rude the villain Lotso really is
when he pulls, off the mouth of Mrs. Potato Head just to shut her up. As they look stunned, Mr. Potato
Head lets Lotso know that only her husband is allowed to pull that trick, delivering a veiled sex joke
in the process. Also wrongly teaching kids that it is alright to silent and claim a

What Are New Ideas Threaten Society
New Ideas Threaten Society The heart of the Enlightenment lied at the heart of Paris, France.
Intellectuals gathered throughout Europe to debate and justify new and old ideas. Gatherings were
held to host discussion as reformed concepts spread across Europe though passionate writers and
scholars. Traditional beliefs, customs, and conventions were examined during the Enlightenment by
these people and the citizens that come to read their papers. Controversy brewed as power holders and
religion met with the power of reason, but these ideas spread through Europe in a variety of methods.
For one, the introduction of Denis Diderot s Encyclopedia, Encyclopédie, sparked curiosity among
intellectual readers. With its ample amount of general knowledge in science, the goal was to change

Salons were where writers, artists, philosophers, and other intellectuals gather informally to exchange
ideas. The concept of salons may have originated in the 1600s when noblewomen of Paris invited
friends over to discuss poetic readings. By the 1700s woman began questioning their role in society,
hosting salons to contribute and gain knowledge to improve social status
(http://westerncivguides.umwblogs.org). Primarily, the goals of salons were to build and a network of
writers by discussing ideas and encouraging readers to become writers of their own

Thérèse Rodet Geoffrin was the hostess of highly respected salons in Hôtel de Rambouillet. She was
very generous, almost motherly, knew how to hold conversations, and a very attentive listener who
enjoyed being taught. This, in turn, allowed her salon to grow in popularity and respect, gathering
intellectuals from all parts of Europe

The Role Of Conservatives In The 1970s And 1980s
Conservatives in the 1970s and 1980s were responding to many events and policies. Many were
responding to the numerous Supreme Court decisions. They did not support decisions such as banning
prayers in public education and the legalization of abortion and pornography. Conservatives like Jerry
Falwell demanded for America to return to its traditional values, and blamed numerous factors from
television to the public school system (Foner, VOF, 312). In addition, Conservatives stood against the
Equal Rights Amendment, the feminist revolution, and the homosexual revolution. Conservative
women like Phyllis Schlafly successfully defeated the Equal Rights Amendment. Schlafly argued that
the amendment will only make it harder for women, forcing them

Patricia Donovan Deliver Her Summary
A Review of Deliver Her by Patricia Perry Donovan
In her introductory novel, Deliver Her, Patricia Perry Donovan turns the page in her writing career,
moving from journals and a concentration on non fiction to something more creative and in novel
form. As the back cover of the book highlights, this composition is about A daughter s grief. A mother
s desperation. An endless highway of deception. This book is easy to follow and not only entertains
but also leaves the reader with food for thought at the very end.
The author s audience is also clear from the back cover description and is sure to include mothers and
adolescent daughters alike. Some additional readers this novel would likely appeal to include those
struggling with grief over losing a loved one and people encountering or enabling addiction. It is
likely the audience will find the primary characters very easy to empathize with. They include the
mother, Meg, daughter, Alex, and Carl, a man the mother hires to Deliver Her daughter to Birches, a
remote, alternative type school intended on resetting the path of troubled youth. Alex s troubles began
on the night of her 16th birthday party when her friend Cass dies in a car accident involving their

Essay Symposium Cave Allegory
Starting at 210a of The Symposium, Diotima speaks with Socrates about reaching the final vision of
the mysteries. She starts talking about a young boy who is starting to be attracted to beautiful bodies.
He first loves one body; and then, realizing that all bodies are relatively alike, he begins to love all
beautiful bodies. After that, he comes to appreciate the beauty of minds, not caring anymore about
physical attraction. After all stages, the boy will ultimately come to loving beauty itself and all
beautiful things. This gradual climb to the final vision is similar to the climb out of the cave in Plato s
Allegory of the Cave. In the Allegory of the Cave, the chained down prisoners are limited with their
perception on reality. At ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to The Symposium, the cave allegory also has a reference to a Form. At the last stage of the
prisoner s climb to the top of the cave, he sees the sun and observes the Form of Good. Since he was
recently unaware of the Form of Good, he has reached a higher understanding, just like the boy from
The Symposium. These two pieces written by Plato also have two characters, Socrates and the
prisoners, who are similar. After returning to the cave, the prisoner would be reentering a world of
darkness, having to talk to all the unreleased prisoners. He would live with the other prisoners, being
able to see better than all of the rest. Because of his different perspective of reality and new
knowledge, he would assume the position of the leader of the group and take care of the prisoners.
Socrates does this exact thing in The Symposium. He seems to be the most enlightened one in the
group and appears to be the puppet by which Plato speaks about his own views. Alcibiades speaks
about how he looked up to and loved Socrates during his speech starting at 212c. Socrates acts as the
mentor and leader in The Symposium, just as a prisoner would be if he were to leave the cave and
become enlightened. Although there are many dissimilarities in these two pieces written by Plato,
there are lots of similarities. It is very surprising to see as many parallels between the two works, even
though they have the same author. To start, Diotima s speech had the

Evolution And Natural Selection
Before the industrial revolution and the arrival of great scientists, mostly everybody on Earth relied on
origin myths and supernatural forces like God to explain the creation of our world exactly as it is right
now (HE). Little did they know that life on Earth is way more complex than this... Until someone
came up with a revolutionary theory: evolution. We are going to explore together the concepts of
evolution, natural selection and its theory, and all the different types of evidence for evolution there is
at this moment compared to what Darwin had at his time.
Firstly, to begin with understanding evolution, we need to determine what it is, what triggers it and its

The Demise of Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site
Located in present day Collinsville, Illinois is Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site, which was once
home to the largest city north of Mexico from 700 to 1400 A.D. Settled by the Mississippian people,
today their decline remains a mystery. First visited in 1811 by traveler Henry Brackenridge and
considered the discoverer of Cahokia only in the sense that he wrote several papers and articles about
the findings to the public s attention. After walking around the mounds, Brackenridge described that
the locations of the last inhabitants were clearly visible to him, as were fragments of their tools and
utensils. Many extensive archeological excavations and several case study theories have come about
through the years as to why this magnificent ancient metropolis faced such demise.
Many theories viable or not have come about through the years about the fall of the Cahokians,
climate change, a political falling out, a massive flood or a fire and some erroneous suggestions
involving the cosmos. Many of these theories really do not hold a torch to the climate change or
societal fall. A massive fire, a disastrous flood, although more evidence of remains would have be
revealed to be appropriate. Overcrowding and depletion of resources can hold up to the evidence and
reigns true in common sense. I will bring up these factors of cause for the demise, but I will explore
and focus mainly on the climate changes in this American Bottom region as the prime factor of the

Republican Party Research Paper
As many American Liberals have noticed the Democratic Party, supposedly their party, has been
losing big electorally. The presidency, the majority of state governorships, both houses of congress
and the majority of state assemblies have been lost by the Democrats to the Republican Party. This has
left many Democratic citizens wondering, what happened? Why did their party suddenly fall from
favor with the voting public? Though I do not hold myself out as having a definitive answer I do have
a hunch as to why the Democrats have been losing big at the polls. And fair warning, though I will try
to keep this as neutral as possible political biases do have a pesky way of sneaking into these things.

Utilising A Wide Range Of Sources Critically Evaluate And...
Utilising a wide range of sources critically evaluate and discuss the following statement:
Dangerousness is said to be socially constructed.
Dangerousness is a term that is used in various settings such as legal, academic, administrative and
popular discourse (Bennett, n.d:3.). The meaning of the term can vary throughout the different settings
(ibid). In criminology the term often corresponds with acts of violence, and is used to label an
offenders potential level of risk of harm they may cause (Farrington and Tarling, 1985:175). Someone
who is labelled as dangerous is thought to pose as a threat or risk to society. However, dangerousness
is not easily defined; it can actually cover a range of factors; which makes it more of an umbrella
term. For example, three distinct constructs such as risk factors, potential harm, and risk level are used
to determine dangerousness (Greene and Wrightsman, 2007:263). Nevertheless, even though the term
lacks a clear and concise definition, it is used on a daily basis to make very important decisions
regarding offenders who have been previously convicted of a specified offence such as, a violent
offence, or a sexual offence (Legislation.gov.uk, 2003). Society is becoming increasingly obsessed
with danger or risks to health and safety, and anxiety and fear are becoming a more dominated feature
in everyday life (Furedi, 2007:198). It is thought that dangerousness is a product of societal
construction, this essay will assess how

The Importance Of Japanese Culture And Society
In societies across the world, religion has always had the ability to unite the people into communities
through its rituals and celebrations. Japanese society is a major example of how people can join
together as a community to celebrate their unique beliefs. However, this would then often raise the
question of which came first; the close knit community who started the religion, or the religion that
jumpstarted everything and brought people together. The truth of the matter is, if one were to look at
Japanese culture and society, it is rather apparent that ancient religions such as Buddhism and Shinto
form rituals and traditions which would then later shape the ceremonies that the community partake
in. These ceremonies are essentially festivals that villages put together to show respect and
acknowledgement for a certain religion or an important event. Festivals are done with the most
dedication among everybody in a village or town, and it is this dedication that proves how important
festivals are to the community. Essentially, the religion is the driving force behind a culture s
communal bond, and it is the festivals such as the Kenka Matsuri, Namahage Matsuri, and the Gion
Matsuri that are physical representation of this union. However, these religious festivals have proven
to lose its religious background and tradition and start to converge into a celebration of the community
itself. A very well known festival that Japan usually takes pride in is the Kenka Matsuri, or also

The World War I Ended
In late June 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated. A rise of threats and
mobilization orders followed the event, leading to the outbreak of World War I, which pitted Germany,
Austria Hungary and the Ottoman Empire (the so called Central Powers) against Great Britain,
France, Russia, Italy and Japan (the Allied Powers). The Allies were joined after 1917 by the United
States. The four years of the Great War as it was then known saw unprecedented levels of carnage and
destruction, thanks to grueling trench warfare and the introduction of modern weaponry such as
machine guns, tanks and chemical weapons. By the time World War I ended in the defeat of the
Central Powers in November 1918, more than 9 million soldiers had been killed and 21 million more
wounded. New weapons revolutionized combat in World War One.
Combat morphed from a rapid, noble and relatively ephemeral thing to a new model: trench warfare.
There were many wars before the Great War, or World War 1. The Revolutionary war and The Civil
War were the two major wars before the occurrence of World War 1. Both of these wars produced
many casualties. During The Civil, at least 618,000 Americans died. Today, The Civil War still has the
greatest number of American casualties than any other war. Another major war prior to the First World
War was the American Revolution. During this time there was approximately 50,000 dead or wounded
American soldiers.

The Frontier Thesis Summary
The Frontier Thesis may play a heavy part in U.S. history, but there are implications for truly
understanding the outlines of this thesis. Fredrick Jackson Tuner during a great meeting of American
Historical Association on July 12th, 1893 in Chicago, a paper named The Significance of the Frontier
in American History. This paper introduced an innovative way of astonishment to understanding the
construction of America. Turner envisioned that the history of America was not focused one the
prominence of the Frontier and the America established many trades and accomplishments from this
voyage. Such as Tuner laid out the foundation of his thesis, he also didn t account for the flaws that
were overlooked from his discernment of the Frontier. (Tuner, pg. 1 9) ... Show more content on

According to Turner, in the settlement of America we have to observe how European life entered the
continent, and how America modified and developed that life and reacted on Europe. (Turner, pg. 2) It
is believed that America was an extension of Europe civilization just in a different land, but in Turner
s thesis, is that we developed new techniques and faced broadened challenges that change the way we
think in America. This is the key point of his argument, which the vast skills and knowledge we
acquired from the excursion westward, created a new society and left the old influences behind. As
stated by Turner, the existence of an area of free land, its continuous recession, and the advance of
American settlement westward, explain American development. (Turner, pg. 1) He highly believes
that the Frontier plays an indispensable role in American History throughout the colonization of the
West. (Tuner, pg.

College Education Problems
Why the education system is flawed many students over the years due to the poor support they
provided? The education system in the United States has problems over the years because it has some
flaws of helping students to succeed. Students who attend community college or university will have
issues that will cause them to be in debt or could not complete it. The system tried many ways to bring
students accomplish their degree, but the problem is that students face issues that will affect their goal
of reaching their degree. The system has changed in order to fix some problems; however, the results
make the prices for most colleges so high that not many students could afford. Not many students are
rich because most students are on the benefits from social security or working. Students who need
help are most likely be the ones who will fail at a higher rate of the lack of support from college. Most
colleges are not doing the right job to solve the system; however, they did make some input such as
financial aid and tuition for certain classes. Many college students drop out of school due to problems
exist such as the lack of preparation, lack of globalism language, and financial aid needs.
First, the problem of the education system has enrolled new students that were unprepared in most
colleges. Community college (or four year college) is a school that brought students from high school
to learn advanced education by learning the college basics and focusing on their career.

Sociological Theories On Development
1.
As social workers, we aim to learn the basics of competent and ethical practice with children, young
people and families from diverse backgrounds. To do this, we must have an
Understanding of the changes which occur in children and young people as they mature. Many
different theories exist to assist in explaining the physical, social, cognitive and emotional changes
that take place in children and young people as they grow. Such theories include psychoanalysis,
cognitive behavioural theories, developmental theories and Humanism.
A developmental psychologist named Erik Erikson proposed an eight stage theory on development,
which stated that humans progress through eight psychosocial conflicts in order to develop completely
(David, 2014). Jean Piaget also proposed a stage theory on development. Piaget suggested that
development proceeds through cognitive development in four stages. Both theories from these
psychologists have suggested that development occurs throughout certain stages, and is universal
(McLeod, 2014). Universal meaning that humans learn to do the same or develop in the same way, no
matter what culture they come from, or upbringing they have (E.g. children learning to crawl, stand
and walk the same) (McLeod, 2014).
Attachment theory is a commonly known theory used to explain changes among children. Child and
family psychiatrist, John Bowlby, has a deep rooted belief in the idea that the quality of a child s early
parenting and family life was key to

Q1: Explain how Red Bull has been able to arouse and activate the consumer decision making
process. Initially, Red Bull made consumers realize that they need this kind of energy drink by
physiological arousal. For blue collar in Thai such as taxi and truck drivers, they usually have to
combat mental and physical fatigue that are their bodily needs at that moment. Red Bull used and
interprets these physiological cues to arouse related needs about energy drinks. After consumers
recognized the needs, Red Bull evoked consumers to link energy drinks to their product according to
the function and prices. People tend to perceive things they need or want (Schiffman et al., 2014).

These help consumers develop enduring perceptions about Red Bull (Batra et al., 2009). Red Bull has
strong brand personality to make customers remember it and separate it from its competitors. Red Bull
s brand image is a red bull with the blue cans. The design is unique and link to the brand name and its
product. All these factors create a image of Red Bull to customers. As consumers subconsciously
exercise selectivity about which aspects of the environment they perceive (Schiffman et al., 2014),
Red Bull could enter the evoked set of consumers as long as it could catch customers insights. Besides
the unique brand, Red Bull handing out free samples of the product and sales teams driving Minis
with a Red Bull can strapped on top of the car. These actions catch consumers insight and attract them
to purchase. All these elements make Red Bull are able to be successful in entering the evoked set of
consumers.
Q3: What could influence a consumer to stop purchasing Red Bull? If consumers do not notice
products, they will not be able to purchase them (Jansson Boyd, 2010). However, in this case, Red
Bull is a well known brand. Therefore this is not an ideal method. If the value of the product cannot

If someone doesn t have enough electrolytes in their system then they can t function. Electrolytes are
important because they are what certain cells such as nerve, heart, and muscle use to sustain voltages
across their cell membranes. They are also what cells use to carry electrical impulses, as in nerve
impulses and muscle contractions, across themselves and to other cells. Kidneys work to keep the
electrolyte concentration in blood constant in spite of changes in the body. Again, when exercising, the
body loses most electrolytes in the sweat; sports drinks which contain sodium chloride or potassium
chloride are consumed after the workout to provide the body with the energy it just lost. They also
contain added sugar and flavorings to the drinks to give extra energy and to make the drink taste
better. People also drink other drinks after a workout because they feel that it obtains the energy more
effectively.
Sports drinks are used to receive energy while doing an active, or athletic, event. There are three
popular types of sports drinks: isotonic (average athlete), hypotonic (low perspiration athletes; jockeys
and gymnasts), and hypertonic (long distance runners that need the extra carbohydrates and
electrolytes). Isotonic sports drinks quickly replace fluids lost by sweating and supply a boost of
carbohydrates. Hypotonic sports drinks quickly replace fluid lost. Hypertonic sports drinks
supplement daily carbohydrate

Titration Investigation
Aim:
The aim of my investigation is to determine the solubility of calcium Hydroxide solution with the aid
of the titration process.
Titration can be defined as the method of determining the concentration of a substance in solution by
adding to it a standard reagent of known concentration in carefully measured amounts until a reaction
of definite and known proportion is completed, as shown by a color change or by electrical
measurement, and then calculating the unknown concentration.
An example could be, a given volume of a solution of unknown acidity may be titrated with a base of

From the pH at the equivalence point, the dissociation constant of the acidic or basic group can be
determined (see chemical equilibrium). If a compound contains several different acidic or basic
groups, the titration curve will show several sigmoid shaped curves like steps and the dissociation
constant of each group can be obtained from the pH at its corresponding equivalence point.
I have now explained the basis of the Titration methodology; I will now have to choose the
appropriate compounds in order to make sure that the experiment is carried out in the appropriate
manner. I will now display a table containing the different compunds for my availability:
Strong acid
Weak acid
Strong alkali
Weak alkali
Hydrochloric acid
Ethanoic acid
Sodium Hydroxide
Ammonia solution
Nitric acid
Ethandioic acid
Potassium Hydroxide
Sodium Catbonate
Sulphuric acid
Calcium Hydroxide
Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate
This table will aid us into the right choice of indicator. The reason for doing so is that some aspects of
the Titration process have to be very accurate. Depending upon the strength of an alkali and acid the
right indicator is chosen:

New needs and tensions will arise in each area of life initiating one to seek new ways of adapting to
these new found stressors. In return this forces them to form different kinds of intimate relationships.
This maturation helps forms one s personality (Kowalski, amp; Westen, 2002). Relationships formed
during each stage of life serve as a prototype for interactions in later stages. For this reason, there
exists a continuum of relationships formed throughout a lifetime that shape and mold specific
personality traits. Sigmund Freud, Erik Erikson, Jean Piaget, and Lawrence Kohlberg, describe
development as a series of stages. A stage is a period in development in which people exhibit typical
behavior patterns and establish particular capacities (Kowalski, amp; Westen, 2002). The various stage
theories share three assumptions: First people pass through stages in a specific order, with each stage
building on capacities developed in the previous stage, second stages most related to one s age, third
development is discontinuous, with qualitatively different capacities emerging in each stage
(Kowalski, amp; Westen, 2002). Heredity VS. Environment, otherwise known as the nature vs. nurture
debate. Nature relates to the relative importance of an individual s innate qualities ( nature in the sense
of nativism or innatism) as compared to an individual s personal experiences

Hurricane Andrew Research Papers
The sound of the wind, that s what you never forget. The initial whisper. The growing mewing that
turns into a howl. Then they cry of glass shattering. The grumbling of a roof peeling apart , said Ana

Florida, Hurricane Andrew. On August 24, 1992, Category 5 Hurricane Andrew came through and
devastated South Florida turning its full forces on Miami Dade county. The aftermath of this hurricane
was completely unbelievable and devastating, being that it was the most high priced storm ever
recorded in United States History. Rebuilding the community took several years and even after
everything was rebuilt, citizens of South Florida, would never forget Hurricane Andrew.

The Jewelry By Guy De Maupassant
Two Most Valued Possessions In literature, stories have countless ways of teaching a lesson or
presenting a hidden message. A story in literature, for example, may function as a didactic medium. A
didactic medium is a means of teaching the reader something materially useful. In the short story, The
Jewelry by Guy de Maupassant, there is a didactic medium that Maupassant portrays. The didactic
medium in this short story is always pay attention to minor details. The details may seem unimportant,
however they can result in a greater outcome. In the story, M. Lantin and his wife live off of 3,500
francs a year that he makes as a chief clerk in the office of the Minister of the Interior. Madame Lantin
takes care of all the furnishing and household needs. After the passing of his wife, M. Lantin stands
dumbfounded at how she affords such necessities when he can barely sustain himself as illustrated by
the statement, But life became hard for him. His salary, which, in his wife s hands, had amply sufficed
for all household needs, now proved scarcely sufficient to supply his own few wants (page 53). This
quote shows that M. Lantin struggles financially without the assistance of his wife. This is one of the
details within the story that hints at Madame Lantin receiving money from an unknown source.
Furthermore, Madame Lantin has an eye for jewelry even though she states the pieces are not real. She
loves to wear an elegant pearl necklace, pebble earrings, and bracelets. M.

La Sylphie And Giselle Research Paper
La Sylphide and Giselle, romantic ballets written in the Romantic era of the 19th century,
revolutionized ballet by introducing the spirituality of Romantic poetry and literature to the world of
dance. These ballets were brought to life through the tip of Marie Talioni s toes, an Italian French
ballerina who is known for her graceful, almost evanescent dancing. La Sylphide and Giselle played
an important role in creating a fundamental change in ballet through its portrayal of supernaturalism.
Isaiah Berlin, a philosopher widely considered to be the dominant British scholar in the 20th century,

It brought a new poetry to the dance and created a greater illusion as if they were floating across the
stage like mystical creatures. Pointe work was compulsory for the interpretation of a wili and sylph as
it was seen to be the most transcendent example in these acts of romantic mystery (Guest, The
Romantic Ballet in Paris, 18). Marie Taglioni as the role of Giselle, was able to achieve grace and
spiritually of movement. Her attention was given to the minutest details. This marked her as one of the
greatest leading Giselle s of her time. She seemed to float and bound like a sylph across the stage,
never executing those tours de force that we know to be difficult and wish were impossible, being
always performed at the expense of decorum and grace (Guest, The Romantic Ballet in Paris, 104).
During this era, tricks and so called tours de force were not something that was prominent or
important to the appeal of the choreographers. The true distinction during the Romantic period was the
story line about love, madness, good vs. evil, and the supernatural. The Romantic Era shifts away
from the early 18th century style and move away from the rational. This is an era of elusive dreams
and life beyond death; an area that cultivates audience to feel and not to

  • 3. Neurone Function Essay Membrane proteins are found in all cell membranes and it is these that determine the majority of the membranes functions. There are often two types of membrane protein and these can be classified as integral proteins and peripheral proteins. Integral proteins are situated in the hydrophobic interior part of the phospholipid bilayer and can have hydrophilic channels that allow the passage of hydrophilic substances across the membrane. Where as, peripheral proteins are not embedded in the bilayer at all and are instead loosely bound to the surface of the membrane. Neurons are the basic units of the nervous system and are involved in the transmission of impulses to all different parts of the body. Membrane proteins are of great importance when it comes to considering the function of neurones within the body, as many of the processes that occur would not be possible without the action of proteins. One of the key ways that membrane proteins are involved in neurone function is through the formation of the resting potential. The resting potential is the charge difference across a cell membrane when a neurone is at rest and not sending a signal, typically between 60 and 80 millivolts. Potassium and Sodium ions play a fundamental role in the formation of the resting potential (Professor Sandidge/Moyle, 2012) and these ions each have a concentration gradient across the membrane of a neuron. In the majority of neurones, the concentration of potassium is greater inside the cell, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Metal Catalyzed Carbon Recently metal catalyzed carbon carbon and carbon heteroatom cross coupling reactions have been developed as an important reaction class in chemical synthesis.1 Nowadays, there is a variety of competitive methods for synthesis of aryl nucleophile bonds with various sources of C , O , N , P , and S nucleophiles.1 5 Researchers have extensively applied palladium based catalysts in cross coupling reactions in both academic and industrial settings,5, 6 however, our goal is the development of a range of copper based catalysts for cross coupling reactions. Copper assisted Sonogashira type coupling reactions are valuable transformations for organic synthesis. C C bond formation between aryl halides and terminal aryl and alkyl alkynes affords the corresponding substituted internal alkynes. Alkynes are the building blocks of a wide range of pharmaceuticals, natural products, biologically active molecules, conducting polymers, nonlinear, optical and liquid crystal materials.7 12 The routine reaction method for Sonogashira type coupling is the use of a palladium based catalyst and a copper(I) salt as a co catalyst.13 The role of the copper co catalyst is to produce a copper acetylide intermediate that subsequently transmetallates to the palladium center. In recent years, many different catalytic systems including copper free palladium based catalysts have been applied for this reaction,14, 15 but the use of effective palladium free systems would obviously be much more interesting in ... • 7. The Bible As Tool For Guide Them Throughout Their... In the Seventh day Adventist church uses the Bible as tool to guide them throughout their Christian lives. The Bible teaches beliefs that the Christian are expected to follow and apply to their lives. Along with following these beliefs, Christians are expected to teach these beliefs as well, so that future generations may carry them out and be a positive example of the church. One the beliefs is the trinity. In Ephesians 4:4 6 it is written that There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism: one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all . There is one God, who in Himself is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; the unity of the three; Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one (Deuteronomy 6:4). The trinity is God, who is immortal, all knowing, and above all. God is all powerful, love, worth of our worship, ever present, and who created everything. In 2 Corinthians 13:14 May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all , explaining that the trinity, who carries multiple characteristics, is with us to guide us. Another belief is the creation. In Isaiah 45: 18 it is written that For this is what the Lord says he who created the heaves, he is God; he would fashion and made the earth; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited ... • 8. Hieroglyphics and History of Mathematics Hieroglyphics deal a lot with the history of math, because it was one of the earliest of maths. The ancient Egyptians were the first civilization to practice the scientific arts. It is said that the Egyptians introduced the earliest fully developed base 10 numeration systems at least as early as 2700 B.C. The word chemistry is derived from the word Alchemy which is the ancient name for Egypt. It was between the third and first millennia B.C. It later then died in 400 AD. This was first used as legal matters such as commerce, education, literature, and science. This type of math was mostly used by Egyptians, but there numbering was different than ours today. Instead of them using numbers they would use pictures to illustrate the numbers. It is said that hieroglyphics were created by the Egyptian god Thoth. He is said to be the god of the moon, magic, and writing. Hieroglyph comes from the root word hieros which is Greek meaning sacred, and the root word glypho which means inscription. Hieroglyphs were first used by Clement of Alexandria. It was first used in ancient Egypt, as a decimal numbering system. But the decimal was non positional; it could deal with numbers of great scale. Egyptian used this method mostly in medicine and geometry. The earliest known examples of hieroglyphs in Egypt have been dated to 3,400 BC. The latest date in hieroglyphs was made on the gate post of a temple at Philae in 396 AD. The Egyptians were really involved in medicine and applied ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Religion concerns itself with purpose, cause, and nature considered for the creation of a superhuman agency fitted with several moral codes. The codes provide guidance on how humans should conduct themselves throughout their life time. Religious beliefs are known to fall into a pattern of 8 different elements such as the belief system, community, central myths, rituals, an ethical system, experiences of the emotions, expressing religion in a material manner, and the ability of being sacred (Jacobs, 2005). The followers of this movement are not allowed to smoke, gamble, take alcohol, engage in a homosexual behavior and premarital sex, and do drugs. Moreover, they are also required to keep their jobs and any involved secular connections with the world (Penny, 2005). In addition to the above ethical system, the followers to this movement are required to carry out exercises which involve some identified movement styles such as slow qigong while one follower is seated and four others are standing. The reason behind this is that; the followers to this movement hold an ethical belief that performing these form of exercises and combining it with the act of upholding an ethical belief system bring an individual closer to enlightenment after curing certain diseases. Falun Gong does not pay attention to all the eight elements of religion since there are others which are totally absent. The movement has no leader and at the same time does not carry out any form of rituals unlike the Christian religion. In addition to this, the movement does not hold central myths. They are however known to express their religion in a material manner such as through performing exercises while holding a belief that it is a way of keeping illnesses away and enhancing enlightenment (Penny, 2005). • 10. Parent Parents And Aladdin s Message In The Little Mermaid The message delivered by Disney movies is definetily not something children need to learn from. For example, in the movie The Little Mermaid, we see so many wrong things that are taught to little girls. First, we see a mermaid who strongly dislikes everything she has just because she wants to be like a human. We want little girls in this generation to accept who they are, where they come from, and value their roots, sadly this movie is sending a completely different message. Secondly, she sacrifices her singing abilities, home, social standards, and her family to be with a guy she barely knows. Clearly this is teaching girls to run off to the first guy they find handsome and charming without knowing much about him. Most importantly we want children of the next generation to know morals. ... Even though Disney films are meant for young audience, the people actually making it just can t help sliding in some cruel adult jokes. In Toy Story 3, the gang learns how rude the villain Lotso really is when he pulls, off the mouth of Mrs. Potato Head just to shut her up. Intellectuals gathered throughout Europe to debate and justify new and old ideas. Gatherings were held to host discussion as reformed concepts spread across Europe though passionate writers and scholars. Traditional beliefs, customs, and conventions were examined during the Enlightenment by these people and the citizens that come to read their papers. Controversy brewed as power holders and religion met with the power of reason, but these ideas spread through Europe in a variety of methods. Primarily, the goals of salons were to build and a network of writers by discussing ideas and encouraging readers to become writers of their own (https://www.mtholyoke.edu). They served the purpose of involving women the political and social reforms for the woman were to assign and contribute to the discussion (sites.google.com). Marie Thérèse Rodet Geoffrin was the hostess of highly respected salons in Hôtel de Rambouillet. Patricia Donovan Deliver Her Summary A Review of Deliver Her by Patricia Perry Donovan In her introductory novel, Deliver Her, Patricia Perry Donovan turns the page in her writing career, moving from journals and a concentration on non fiction to something more creative and in novel form. As the back cover of the book highlights, this composition is about A daughter s grief. A mother s desperation. An endless highway of deception. This book is easy to follow and not only entertains but also leaves the reader with food for thought at the very end. The author s audience is also clear from the back cover description and is sure to include mothers and adolescent daughters alike. Some additional readers this novel would likely appeal to include those struggling with grief over losing a loved one and people encountering or enabling addiction. It is likely the audience will find the primary characters very easy to empathize with. They include the mother, Meg, daughter, Alex, and Carl, a man the mother hires to Deliver Her daughter to Birches, a remote, alternative type school intended on resetting the path of troubled youth. She starts talking about a young boy who is starting to be attracted to beautiful bodies. He first loves one body; and then, realizing that all bodies are relatively alike, he begins to love all beautiful bodies. After that, he comes to appreciate the beauty of minds, not caring anymore about physical attraction. After all stages, the boy will ultimately come to loving beauty itself and all beautiful things. Similar to The Symposium, the cave allegory also has a reference to a Form. At the last stage of the prisoner s climb to the top of the cave, he sees the sun and observes the Form of Good. Since he was recently unaware of the Form of Good, he has reached a higher understanding, just like the boy from The Symposium. These two pieces written by Plato also have two characters, Socrates and the prisoners, who are similar. After returning to the cave, the prisoner would be reentering a world of darkness, having to talk to all the unreleased prisoners. He would live with the other prisoners, being able to see better than all of the rest. Because of his different perspective of reality and new knowledge, he would assume the position of the leader of the group and take care of the prisoners. Socrates does this exact thing in The Symposium. He seems to be the most enlightened one in the group and appears to be the puppet by which Plato speaks about his own views. Alcibiades speaks about how he looked up to and loved Socrates during his speech starting at 212c. Socrates acts as the mentor and leader in The Symposium, just as a prisoner would be if he were to leave the cave and become enlightened. Although there are many dissimilarities in these two pieces written by Plato, there are lots of similarities. It is very surprising to see as many parallels between the two works, even though they have the same author. To start, Diotima s speech had the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First visited in 1811 by traveler Henry Brackenridge and considered the discoverer of Cahokia only in the sense that he wrote several papers and articles about the findings to the public s attention. After walking around the mounds, Brackenridge described that the locations of the last inhabitants were clearly visible to him, as were fragments of their tools and utensils. Many extensive archeological excavations and several case study theories have come about through the years as to why this magnificent ancient metropolis faced such demise. Many theories viable or not have come about through the years about the fall of the Cahokians, climate change, a political falling out, a massive flood or a fire and some erroneous suggestions involving the cosmos. Utilising a wide range of sources critically evaluate and discuss the following statement: Dangerousness is said to be socially constructed. Dangerousness is a term that is used in various settings such as legal, academic, administrative and popular discourse (Bennett, n.d:3.). The meaning of the term can vary throughout the different settings (ibid). In criminology the term often corresponds with acts of violence, and is used to label an offenders potential level of risk of harm they may cause (Farrington and Tarling, 1985:175). Someone who is labelled as dangerous is thought to pose as a threat or risk to society. However, dangerousness is not easily defined; it can actually cover a range of factors; which makes it more of an umbrella term. For example, three distinct constructs such as risk factors, potential harm, and risk level are used to determine dangerousness (Greene and Wrightsman, 2007:263). Nevertheless, even though the term lacks a clear and concise definition, it is used on a daily basis to make very important decisions regarding offenders who have been previously convicted of a specified offence such as, a violent offence, or a sexual offence (Legislation.gov.uk, 2003). Society is becoming increasingly obsessed with danger or risks to health and safety, and anxiety and fear are becoming a more dominated feature in everyday life (Furedi, 2007:198). Japanese society is a major example of how people can join together as a community to celebrate their unique beliefs. However, this would then often raise the question of which came first; the close knit community who started the religion, or the religion that jumpstarted everything and brought people together. The truth of the matter is, if one were to look at Japanese culture and society, it is rather apparent that ancient religions such as Buddhism and Shinto form rituals and traditions which would then later shape the ceremonies that the community partake in. These ceremonies are essentially festivals that villages put together to show respect and acknowledgement for a certain religion or an important event. Festivals are done with the most dedication among everybody in a village or town, and it is this dedication that proves how important festivals are to the community. Essentially, the religion is the driving force behind a culture s communal bond, and it is the festivals such as the Kenka Matsuri, Namahage Matsuri, and the Gion Matsuri that are physical representation of this union. However, these religious festivals have proven to lose its religious background and tradition and start to converge into a celebration of the community itself.
