The Effects of the Berlin Confernece on Africa Essay
Africa is a large country and Europe noticed this, they wanted to capitalize on everything it had to
offer. Africa has a large quantity of natural resources including oil, diamonds, gold, iron, cobalt,
uranium, copper, bauxite, silver, petroleum and cocoa beans, but also woods and tropical fruits. Much
of its natural resources are undiscovered or barely harnessed. The Berlin Conference was Africa s
undoing in more ways than one. The colonial powers superimposed their domains on the African
continent. By the time independence returned to Africa in 1950, the realm had acquired a legacy of
political fragmentation that could neither be eliminated nor made to operate satisfactorily (Muller,
301).

Interactions within Biological Systems Lead to Complex...
Enduring Understanding 4.A: Interactions Within biological systems lead to complex properties.
Overview
Almost every aspect of biology involves interaction between different components and systems. It
starts all the way at the cellular level with the interactions of cell organelles that allow a cell to
function and it goes all the way up to the way different ecosystems come together to form complex
communities and interactions. It is these interactions that make biological systems complex and how
cells are specialized in one animal affects the way that animal interacts with the others around it.
These interactions create ever changing and unique properties that make organisms function in the
way in which they do so.
Essential knowledge 4.A.1: The subcomponents of biological molecules and their sequence determine
the properties of that molecule
Proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, and carbohydrates are the four basic macromolecules. Each of these
macromolecules are made up of smaller components that determine the specific macromolecule and
how it functions.
Proteins
Proteins are complex structures made up of chains of amino acids. Each protein has a different
function such as enzymes to catalyze reactions or protein hormones to trigger certain functions of a
cell. First let s start with the most basic component of a protein: an amino acid. An amino acid is made
up of a central carbon atom attached to a hydrogen atom, a carboxyl group, an amino group, and an R
group which varies

Sigmund Freud And Psychoanalysis
Sigmund Freud contributed more to the modern psychological research landscape than any of his
contemporaries. Throughout his career he created one of the first empirically based methods of
understanding the human psyche. These methods are often summarized under the term Psychoanalysis
and it is defined by a series of theories which connect the human experience to human behaviors and
motivations. These theories consist of development analyses based around psychological,
physiological, and psychosexual growth. The ID Ego Superego relationship developed by Freud
attempts to categorically sort the different elements of human desires that combine to create a picture
of a healthy mind. Applying these conceptual divides to specific systems ... Show more content on

A societal participant must display a sense of morality; or the ability to determine right from wrong.
The moral compass was a result of a humans Superego according to Freud. The superego was believed
to develop later on after the Ego, which was in turn developed just after birth. The superego allows for
a higher level understanding of human relations; and creates motivations to care for other humans
beyond a direct benefit to ones self. A parallel development to the ID Ego Superego process is the
psychosexual stages of human consciousness. These stages develop over the first few years a child s
life; and Freud believed they were the primary component of sexual development in the psyche. From
birth to 18 months a child experiences the oral stage of psychosexuality; this time period finds the
child focused on the erogenous zone of the mouth. Exploration comes in the form of eating or sucking
on things; and the brain builds a relationship between these actions and pleasure. This stage can carry
extreme significance and Freud believed that events like withheld food can severely impact the child s
sense of trust as an adult. After the 18 month period

Presidential Elections
Introduction
The presidential elections of United States of America take an indirect form where citizens of the U.S
who are registered as voters in one of the states in U.S which are usually 50 states, or the District of
Columbia, cast ballots for Electoral College members, referred to as electors. These electors then in
turn cast direct votes known as electoral votes in their respective state capitals for president and vice
president positions of the United States. Each states casts as many electoral votes that is equal to the
number of its Senators and representatives in Congress, while in Washington, D.C. they cast the same
number of electoral votes as the least represented state, which is three. The day when registered voters
cast their ballots is called the Election Day. This paper is going to generally discuss the presidential
elections history, an outline of the process of the process of presidential elections, constitutional
requirements for presidential candidates in the U.S, presidential nominations, general elections
campaigning, Electoral College and lastly inauguration.
To begin with, the founding fathers of the United States came up with a democratic system in which
the American people had the power and responsibility to choose their leader, unlike Britain where
leadership was monarchical. George Washington was the first president of the United States of
America to be elected under this new order, which

An antibody has the ability to fight against any harmful materials found within a human being. A
radiologist also has the ability to do so. Like an antibody, a radiologist also has a vital role in an

My fascination with science stems from years of being intrigued by the complexity of the human body

An Analysis Of Wallace Stevens s Sunday Morning
At the time of World War I, many modern poets began to reconsider their own perspectives about
personal philosophy and beliefs. For Wallace Stevens, this period leads to his gradual realization that
modern religion no longer makes sense as a source of comfort. In coming to this conclusion, Stevens
replaces belief in Christianity with a greater appreciation for nature and everyday beauty. In Sunday
Morning Steven s gradually asserts his belief that in the modern era Christian theology disrupts the
life, whereas appreciation for nature can provide better spiritual support. Wallace Stevens s Sunday
Morning argues that belief in Christian faith is no longer sufficient for dealing with the horrors of
modern society, suggesting instead that faith in nature serves as a better source of personal relfection.
In the opening stanza of Sunday Morning, Stevens, through contrasting imagery and ominous
language, suggests the disruptive effect of Christian ideology. The poem opens with the image of a
young woman enjoying coffee and oranges in a sunny chair and the green freedom of a cockatoo /
Upon a rug (2 3). The vibrant flavor of orange and colorful image of a green bird present a serene,
peaceful morning, full of life and calm fulfillment. The next line, The holy hush of ancient sacrifice,
interrupts this quiet scene with a clear sense of foreboding evil, recognizing the alliterative h sound
that intensifies the rapid change of tone (5). Furthermore, the poem becomes even

Pros And Cons Of Social Hierarchy Theory
This particular model is well established in today s modern communities. However, there are certain
disadvantages of the said model. It does not take into consideration social aspects such as standard of
living and the financial system as a whole. There are several other factors other than biological that are
responsible for an illness in individuals such as hierarchy and power that vastly affects a person s
health in today s world.
Hierarchy is defined as the categorization of collection of individuals in accordance with their
financial, societal and professional position in the society. Individuals are divided on the basis of race,
religion, class, ethnicity and many more factors which in turn have great impact on the health and
services provided to individuals in these distinct categories. Firstly, we will discuss social dominance
theory which was developed by Sidanius and Pratto in the year 1999. The theory describes the source
of societal hierarchies and how these classifications boost certain groups and adversely affect people
in particular groups (Moss, 2016). According to this theory, there are dominant and subordinate groups
and there exists inequality in both these groups. There are three different arrangement of hierarchy in
all developed economies on the basis of age, gender and subjective reasons such as ethnic group, race,
rank, belief and faith. There are five key determinants of this theory. To start with, governing groups
possess dominance over other minor groups. Also societal background greatly impacts these groups. It
is more prevalent in males than females and is affected by traits of people and socialization
happenings. We further discuss Karl max s theory of socialism which classifies individuals in society
into three groups namely upper, middle and lower class (Hierarchy structure, 2017). Normally known
as the Marxist Social Hierarchy, the said theory explains that the wealthiest individuals owning land
belongs to upper class, individuals who work for upper class and sells their talent in return of money
comprises of middle class. Lastly, less earning group with no property comprised the lower class.
There have been discrepancies amongst all these groups as far as health and health care

What Is Voldemort Loss Of Power
Call him Voldemort, Harry. Always use the proper name for things. Fear of a name increases fear of
the thing itself. Voldemort s power became so prominent at one time that people refused to even speak

built that power back up to seek revenge.
Voldemort s power diminished when he attempted to murder the Potter family, specifically a young

He spent years trying to gather back the power he lost that night, never quite succeeding in gaining the

set Voldemort back even more but didn t succeed in destroying the dark wizard completely. Yes, sir.
Well, Voldemort s going to try other ways of coming back, isn t he? I mean, he hasn t gone, has he?
No, Harry, he has not. He is still out there somewhere, perhaps looking for another body to share... not
being truly alive, he cannot be killed. He left Quirrell to die; he shows just as little mercy to his
followers as his enemies. Nevertheless, Harry, while you may only have delayed his return to power, it
will merely take someone else who is prepared to fight what seems a losing battle next time and if he

desire for revenge dominates his entire being in such a way that he ends up relying solely on them to

Spirituality is about what do we live for and what keeps us alive. It is combined with the soul, spirit

A Very Brief Biography of Bethoven
{Quote about Beethoven} According to musicologist Berry Cooper, Beethoven was born on
December 16, 1770 in Bonn, Germany, where his father was the Kapellmeister. His father, Johann,
was a respected tenor, violinist, and teacher of both the clavier and the piano. Although Beethoven is
not considered a child prodigy, Beethoven did start music at an early age. Around age three, he would
often sit on his father s lap and play has his father sang, and abandon his playmates to listen to his
father perform. Some historians believe that he started taking formal piano lessons at age five, a
normal age to start training in piano, from his father. Between the mix of Beethoven natural talent and
his father s pedagogical experience, Beethoven excelled quickly as a piano and violin player. It was
said that Beethoven s father was so intent on Beethoven s lessons, that he would often bring
Beethoven to tears. When he was seven, he made his public debut in Cologne, with two other of his
father s students, where he astounded the audience by the difficulty of music that was played.1 By
1779, his father could no longer teach the young composer and searched for other teachers. After
going through many teachers Beethoven found Christian Gottlob Neefe who was the first to allow him
to compose. In 1782, his first recorded work was a set of variations on a march by Ernst Christoph
Dressler. This was then arranged by Neefe and published. This work, even from such an early age

Lela Vernon s Components Of The Creole Culture In Belize
Culture comes within language, symbols, values and beliefs. These things define what a culture is like.
There are many cultures in the world but only specific ones are within a society. Here in Belize there

Dishonest Linking and Framing Essay
Intellectual Property: Dishonest Linking and Framing
Law should govern the deceptive and unethical practices of deep linking and framing against an

an original Web site, including but not limited to images, video, or music, so that the material appears

You can think of the prefix hyper , in hyperlink, as a synonym for able to be clicked to initiate some
action. Thus a hyper link is a clickable active reference used to initiate an action, namely web
navigation. Hypertext and image maps are examples of hyperlinks. In the context of the Web, many
often blur the distinction between link and URL, but there is an important difference between the two.
One is passive information, while the other is an active element interpreted by a browser to facilitate
some action.
Inline linking is functionally equivalent to copying. Before the Web, copying was the only way to use
images from other works. On the Web, technically this is no longer necessary. The image by itself is a
reference to an external document, the image file. Other people s work can be incorporated into other
works through a mere reference. We created copyright law under the assumption copying was the only
way another could use copyrighted material. I am not concerned with the fact the website did not
directly copy the content it merely referenced. In using that reference, the result looks identical to the
end user as if they had copied the content, and stored the pages on their own server. Just because it s
possible to reference such a document from another website without actually copying, does not make
it right. Framing is similar to inline

Why I Want For My Live Negotiation Paper
When it comes to conflicts and negotiations I have always been the type of person to avoid them. The
reasons I avoided them was because I did not know how to handle these situations properly. When it
came to conflicts or negotiations, I would have no medium. Either I would be calm during those
conflicts or I would get really mad. Those two options were not good for me or good for the people I
was trying to resolve conflicts with. After taking this course I learned that I have the avoiding style in

not. I have tried to express different reasons as to why I shouldn t have to lose the weight, but my
ideas and concerns got pushed aside all the time. I would eventually go into my avoiding style and just
stop talking or give up on the topic. I d get angry because I felt like I wasn t being heard. I had even
tried some tactics in the competing style, although I had not known what that was until I took this
course, but in the end I think that I was using them wrong. The conflict that I have is

Sheila s Character Developement throughout the course of An Inspector Calls by J.B Priestley In this
essay I am going to be describing how the character of Sheila develops throughout An Inspector Calls
by J.B Priestley. Priestley was an English writer, who was born in Bradford. He served in the infantry
during world war one, then afterwards attended Cambridge University. As a newspaper essayist and
journalist, he wrote on a variety of subjects, then the publication of The Good Companions in 1929 led
to his establishment as a writer. At the beginning of the play, Sheila seems to be fairly naive and acts
like a younger girl. We see this when she talks to Gerald about the previous summer and his
dissappearance. When Gerald explains ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

first meets the inspector, she isn t sure what is going on, but appears worried when she asks What
Business? Whats Happening? When Sheila does find out what business the inspector has at the house,
she shows genuine concern exclaiming Oh how horrible! Sheila then proceeds to find out all she can
about the girl. Sheila s attitude towards her father changes to a disgusted one when she finds out that
Mr Birling had sacked Eva Smith. She says its a rotten shame and says how girls like this are people

When the inspector begins questioning her, Sheila appears to feel guilty and says that while she felt

herself. She admits that she was jealous of the fact that the girl looked better in the dress than she did.

The Story Of An Hour Setting
Plot, Setting, and Point of View
1. What are fictional stories? 2. Many people will say fictional stories are stories that are not true. 3.
Yes, that is correct, but there are many more parts to fiction. 4. Per Kirszner and Mandell, A work of
fiction is a narrative that originates in the imagination of the author rather than in history or fact (62)
5. Some examples of fiction are poems, epics, and novels. 6. Not all fiction is one hundred percent
false, some fiction focuses on real people and is grounded in actual events, but the way the characters
interact, what they say, and how the plot unfolds are largely the author s invention (Kirszner and

In conclusion, Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hour and The Storm, as well as New York Day Women
by Edwidge Danticat are good examples of fiction that show how plot, setting, and point of view are
used or seen within a story. 2. A story s plot consists of four parts; an exposition, a crisis, a climax, and
a resolution. 3. A story s setting is not only the time and place of the story, but the setting also
encompasses a wide variety of physical and cultural elements (Kirszner and Mandell 171). 4. There
are three different points of view; first, second, which is rarely used, and third. 5. First person uses
words like I, me, or my , second person uses you , and third person uses words such as he, she, or it. 6.
Kirszner and Mandell said that point of view is the vantage point from which events are presented

Although fiction means false, some works of fiction may have factual elements within them, but for
the most part, are false. 9. Fiction is a large part of today s society because it is seen everywhere, such
as books, movies, theater, and so on. 10. Without fiction, life would be much less exciting and duller.

The American Revolution And American History
In the year 1765 the American colonists in the thirteen colonists had an upheaval with Great Britain.
The colonists were tired of British Parliament s rules and taxes that Parliament was placing on
imported goods; such as tea. Historians believe that the beginning point in American History really
started with the American Revolution. Britain was trying to force their culture onto the colonists.
However, the colonist wanted no part in changing their whole cultural background that they created to
the cultural background of Britain. The American Revolution was a one of the biggest revolutions in
American history. Based on what we learned from class discussion on social, cultural, economic, and
political changes there was a lot of revolution happening in the American Revolution. The American
Revolution stated in the year 1765 when the thirteen American colonies declined the British monarch.
Britain started to places taxes on the colonies and the colonies were tired of all the taxes that were
being placed. The first tax that British Parliament enforced on the colonists was the Sugar Act. On
April 5, 1764, Parliament passed a modified version of the Sugar and Molasses Act. Parliament passed
the Sugar Act because the Sugar and Molasses Act was set to expire shortly. The colonists revolted by
not buying anymore sugar or molasses produced by Britain and only purchased sugar and molasses
produced by France. Each gallon of molasses had a six pence tax on it. Back in the 1700s

How Does Peaceful Resistance Affect Society
Peaceful Resistance Provides A Positive Impact
When a law is believed to be unfair, some people express their opposition to the law peacefully. An
effective way to voice one s opinion is through peaceful resistance or protest, which is protected under
the first amendment. Many of the rights protected by the amendments were enacted because of
peaceful resistance. Peaceful resistance, or protesting without using violence, is a positive way for
people to voice their opinions and influence society. Peaceful resistance to laws impacts a free society
in a more positive way than violent resistance, proven by James Otis and John Milton.

James Otis resisted random searches of private property, now protected by the Fourth Amendment.
John Milton is responsible for the freedoms held by citizens, now protected by the First Amendment.
However, while this is evidence that peaceful resistance leaves a lasting impact on the law, the
American Revolution provided many occasions when violent resistance was seen as effective. In
Massachusetts, the only barracks available for use, on the mainland, did not provide enough room for
the British soldiers to be sheltered in public buildings, and, therefore, they were housed in public tents
in Boston (History.com Staff). British soldiers became annoyed with the patriotic colonists after living
closely with them and began to fight and brawl with local Boston citizens (U S History.com.

Network Features Of A Computer Infrastructure
Abstract Networks and media are two important aspects of a computer infrastructure that should be
constantly under protection. Most of the network protocols that we use nowadays were developed like
the open protocols. It means everyone who has an access to the network can scan, read, and modify
packets easily. Thus, one of the tasks a cybersecurity expert might face is developing a new network
architecture or update the existing, vulnerable one. So, the one should have a strategic knowledge to
build the network architecture with the proper security. For example, why it is sometimes better to
setup the network devices with the dynamic IP addresses, or what might happen if it would be two
identical IP addresses in the network. Sometimes it is better to install a switch instead of a router to
increase the average network speed and reduce the breaking availability . The knowledge about the
networks and computers make the cybersecurity expert thinks critically and provide the strategic ideas
about the exact network topology and devices. Also, there are some techniques that might help to
protect the dynamic networks against braking down. There are a lot of dynamic network protocols,
such as RIP, OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP that operates differently, according to the bandwidth, number of
hops, and network availability. Introduction Computer era (century) has come very fast. Only a couple
of decades ago, the first computers were developed and changed the ways of billions of people

During the Industrial Revolution (During a period between the 18th and 19th century which created

major issues were the state of working conditions for lower paid workers including child labour and
the lack of general sanitation practises and infrastructure. Despite the early social problems of working

During the Industrial revolution innumerable deaths were caused by the outbreak of infectious
diseases. Due to the lack of sanitation in Industrial Britain disease spread through towns and
communities very quickly. With no enforceable building regulations and even basic sanitary facilities
required, many of the poorest people were left vulnerable to these outbreaks. Buildings were often
overcrowded with up to thirty people living in one building at one time. Other problems such as
sewage leaks and pipe burst contributed to the spread of diseases. Polluted water and lack of bathing
facilities added to poor general hygiene. According to Elizabeth Isola The first outbreak of cholera,
which is often spread by water contaminated with faecal matter, was in Sunderland, England, in the
fall of 1831. In the course of the outbreak, 52,000 died. From 1837 1838. Two major long term
reforms, the Factory Act in 1833 and the Public Health act in 1848 lead to the reduction of the harsh
brutality of child labour and better means of sanitation for the general population. The Factory Act

The Importance Of Long Distance Relationships
Everyone has different ideas of what a long distance relationship is; to some it may mean being on
opposite sides of a state, country, or even the world. It seems that as the miles between two partners
increases the strain on their relationship and communication increases as well. In recent years the
number of long distance relationships have experienced a steady increase, focusing mostly around
relationships between college aged partners. According to the McKinnel s Paradigm (1994) as
mentioned in Extended Communication Efforts Involved With College Long Distance Relationships ,
nearly one third of students in college or universities are involved in some form of a relationship
involving distance defined by a 50 mile radius (Firmin, Firmin, Merical, 2013). College aged partners
are not the only ones that interact with the struggles of a long distance relationship; many military and
immigrant partnerships also face the strain of finding fulfilling modes of communication.
Communication is one of the foundational building blocks of any relationship. When distance is
factored into the communicative properties of a relationship, the relationship tends to suffer. As time
and technology have advanced, this communicative downfall has become more manageable for any
type of relationship.

proximal relationships as well as concepts surrounding stressors and the influence distance can

Why Faustus Is More Than Just A Reproduction Of Sin
The power of poetry provides mankind much more than an artistic well articulated rhythmic pattern of
words. Poets provide mankind, through poetry, the ability to explore intimately the wit, will, virtues,
vices, and nature of man s soul. At first glance it appears that Christopher Marlowe s, The Tragical
History of Doctor Faustus follows the Calvinistic teaching, ...that man is a fallen creature whose will
is fatally polluted by Original Sin, but also that a poet, by willfully creating verisimilitudes of this
fallen world only ever reproduces sin. (Reisner 332 3) Using Sir Philip Sidney s The Defense of Poesy
and applying it to Marlowe s Faustus, will allow exploring and understanding as to why Faustus is
more than just a reproduction of sin, but more an artistic imitation to provide a different approach in
demonstrating the power of poetry. Faustus s corrupt reality can be used as a means to teach and
delight mankind so that he might seek to better the, infected will that keepth us from teaching unto it.
(Sidney 10) Marlowe uses Faustus as a paradox of sin in order to prove the true power poets have; the
same power Sidney defends in his work. From the very beginning Faustus demonstrates his ability to
understand Sidney s erected wit , If we say that we have no sin,/We deceive ourselves, and there s no
truth in us. (Marlowe 42 3) Faustus knows that he is a sinner therefore, recognizes the virtue of truth.
Yet, since he has been taught that ...the reward of sin is

The issue of illegal immigration has daunted this nation for many years. Currently, there are 11 million

Last year, the United States Senate passed the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and

Reforming the Legal Immigration and Visa System
The current U.S. legal immigration and visa system is inefficient and flawed. Immigrant workers who
would help grow the U.S. economy often face time consuming paperwork and bureaucratic nonsense.
The current immigration bill does not improve the legal immigration and visa system effectively.
Policies that would effectively reform the system are more H 1B visas, a streamlined application, a
reduction is fees. Currently, H 1B visas which are capped at 85,000 annually, should be raised as well
as simplified to renew. Highly educated and skilled workers benefit the U.S. economy and provide
companies great employees. A streamlined application will help make it simpler to obtain a visa. This
application would not reduce security measures that help ensure we are only allowing safe
immigrants, it would simply remove the time consuming nonsense that hold up most applications. The
expensive application process deters many first time applicants and H 1B workers from attempting to
re new their visas. Many well deserving applicants

Out of these four jobs, only one would be reasonable as a job, which not many women can achieve.
When looking at in home employment they found an example of 24 women in domestic tasks (Towbin
et al 2003). Disney movies portray that women should be domestic workers, they should not have
careers outside of the house. Research has analyzed the movie Pocahontas we can see that there is
conflicting ideas of gender roles. Pocahontas is seen as a strong female character throughout most of
the movie until the end where she falls stereotypic female role, as she decided to stay with her
community because she is needed there, the film makes it seem as if she is staying with her
community out of duty (Towbin et al 2003). If the film had made her choice more of her choice
instead of a out of duty she could have still be portrayed as a strong women and not a stereotype.
There has not been much research done on individual Disney princess movies, but recent studies have
taken the movies by year and dissect the movies to see how much masculinity and femininity are in
the movies. The results confirmed that the three Disney princess movies created between 1930 and
1950 depicted more gendered attributes for both the princesses and the princes, they displayed more
traditional stereotype gender roles than the five movies produced in and after the 1980s (England,

I ll be talking about social order, Military and armor and what really a samurai and or a knight is. A
reason their differences are truly greater than their similarities is the social pyramid. In Japan the
group that was more like a lord was a daimyo, A daimyo was also a landowner. Samurais where hired
by daimyos for protection in return they d get land or a payment. In Europe a lord was a landowner
which is like a daimyo. A knight would have their military and loyalty in return for land or payment.
This seems like a pretty important statement. Another example of a similarity is their way of training
which was also very similar . They both started from a very young age. A knight at age seven and a
samurai also at their earlier years. They both did physical training, Chinese studies, Poetry and
spiritual discipline. This is also really good because they both have chinese studies for their early aged
training. A last reason that samurais and knights similarities are greater than their differences might be
their codes. A samurai s code of honor would have been bushido, which means that a samurai had to
have loyalty and was devoted to their duty. A knight s code would have been the code

Evaluation Of A Safety Management System Essay
AVN 1106 Major Assignment

Date of Submission 16/09/2016
Abstract:
With the expectation from CASA for newly established flight operations to design and implement a
Safety Management System (SMS) the task has been set to do so for an airline with 12 regional
aircraft and 200 employees. The aim of an SMS is to monitor and manage the overall safety
operations that occur within an airline. The use of an SMS has proven extremely successful as it
solidifies the communication between operators and management. An SMS consists of four (4) main
components: Safety assurance; Safety risk management; safety promotion; and safety policy. Each of
these components plays a major role in ensuring the safe operation of an airline.
Introduction:
With the aviation industry exponentially expanding it is essential to ensure that those safety standards
which are in place are working effectively. It is primarily the responsibility of the Chief Executive
Officer (CEO) to ensure that his or her airline is not only profitable but is also safe. The balance
between production and protection is a fine line and as such there need to be systems in place to
ensure production is not outweighing protection.
Airlines in the developed world endeavour to not only meet, but to exceed the expectations of the
standards set by regulatory bodies within the aviation industry. This can be done through the
implementation of an SMS as well as by revising and enhancing

Servant Leader As A Servant

Overall, Parris and Peachy clearly exemplify that servant leaders are distinguished by both their

The Civil War, at first, was about slavery; however, the meaning of the war began to change, and it
began to be associated with healing. There were actually two main visions of the Civil War, and Blight
calls these twin goals and competing interests. One was to deal with the negative impacts, which
brought about a sense of healing. The second was regarding the emancipation of slaves. One vision
was about healing, while the other was about justice, and Blight notes this in the prologue and states,

thought of black equality on one side, the knowledge of sectional reunion on the other side, and no
muse yet in the middle holding their hands (Blight, Chapter 1, page 30). Again, Blight s argument is
that it probably never even was possible for there to exist a balance between healing and justice.
Blight states in the prologue, Defeated white southerners and black former slaves faced each other on
the ground, seeing and knowing the awful chasm between their experiences, unaware that any path
would lead to their reconciliation (Blight, Prologue, page 3). The sacrificing of racial justice was an
inevitable cost of attempts to reconcile between the north and the south. An example of that from
Chapter 22 in Bailey is the Ku Klux Klan. Numerous whites disliked the success that blacks were
experiencing, so they formed the Ku Klux Klan. Members of the society instilled fear into blacks in
order to prevent them from voting. They used extreme violence, which, by the 1890s, led to nearly the
disenfranchisement of all blacks. Basically, because attempts to forge reconciliation between the north
and the south

Target Corporation Mission Statement
Target was founded by George Draper Dayton in 1902. He was born in New York and wanted to
explore the markets growing in the Midwest. Because of this, he purchased land in Minneapolis and
began Dayton Dry Goods Company, which became what we know today as Target. Dayton s
principals are the foundation for many of Target Corporation s values to this day. Dayton s store soon
became synonymous with reliability and fair business practices. After Dayton s death in 1938, he
passed his business along to his son, who grew the Dayton Company into a nationwide retailer. In
1911 the company was renamed as The Dayton Company because it better reflected the variety of
products and services that the company offers. In 1916 The Dayton Company became a founding ...

Dayton is quoted having said, Success is making ourselves useful in the world, valuable to society,
helping in lifting in the level of humanity, so conducting ourselves that when we go the world will be
somewhat better of our having lived the brief span of our lives. This statement embodies much of
what the target values are to this day. (Target Through The Years) In 1954, Dayton opened up its first
branch location in downtown Minneapolis. Further, in 1956, the company began to cater towards the
needs of busy suburban families and opened another branch in the Southdale Mall. The company
continued to expand in the years to come. Looking for new ways to entice consumers, in 1960 The
Dayton Company looked to cater towards value oriented shoppers seeking a higher quality experience
(Target Through The Years). At this time the company took the first step in moving away from a
family run department store chain toward what would become one of the chief discount store chains in
America. In 1961, the store officially proclaimed that it was going to form a new discount chain store
that was yet to be

a. Who are your target market subjects? Segmentation and positioning are two important concepts in
marketing. While these terms are generally used in relationship to promotional activities, the term
segmentation has relevance for market research as well. Segmentation involves dividing the larger
universe of consumers or businesses into smaller units that represent more specific target audiences.
Positioning is the next step whereby companies determine, based on the segments they have
identified, how they can effectively promote what they have to offer compared to competitive
offerings and positioning. Effective marketers know that the better they can segment audiences, the
more they will be able to develop target messages and select specific ... Show more content on

Toothpaste Modern Toothpaste
Toothpaste is a paste or gel dentifrice used to clean and maintain the aesthetics and health of teeth.
Toothpaste use can promote good oral hygiene: it can aid in the removal of dental plaque and food
from the teeth, it can aid in the elimination and/or masking of halitosis, and it can deliver active
ingredients such as fluoride or xylitol to prevent tooth and gum disease (gingivitis). In most or all
developed countries, usage after each meal is encouraged. Most toothpaste contains chemicals which
are toxic when ingested, and is not intended to be swallowed.

Sodium fluoride (NaF) is the most common form; some brands use sodium monofluorophosphate
(Na2PO3F). Much of the toothpaste sold in the United States has 1000 to 1100 parts per million
fluoride ion from one of these active ingredients, in the UK the fluoride content is often higher, a NaF
of 0.32% w/w (1,450 ppm fluoride) is not uncommon. This consistency leads some to conclude that
cheap toothpaste is just as good as expensive toothpaste. When the magazine Consumer Reports rated
toothpastes in 1998, 30 of the 38 were judged excellent. Application of fluoride also prevents moisture
build up in some surfaces.[citation needed]
Other ingredients are less commonly used, including Hydroxyapatite nanocrystals and calcium
phosphate for remineralization,[6] and strontium chloride or potassium nitrate to reduce sensitivity.
[edit] Other ingredients
In addition to fluoride, the other fundamental ingredient in most toothpastes is an abrasive.[citation
needed] Studies have shown that abrasives in toothpaste reduce the time needed to remove plaque
from the teeth by approximately 50%. Abrasives, like the dental polishing agents used in dentist s
offices, also cause a small amount of enamel erosion which is termed polishing action. Some brands
contain powdered white mica which acts as a mild abrasive, and also adds a cosmetically pleasing
glittery shimmer to the paste. Many may contain frustules of dead

Gender Stereotypes In Television Commercials
Portrayal of Gender Stereotypes in Children s Television Commercials.
Liuyi Bian
University of Florida
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in gender portrayal in children s television
commercials. The hypothesis that stated, if an observed television program is determined to be
intended for girls, then the colors used in the commercials would be predominantly intended for girls,
is strongly supported. To do content analysis, we first gathered a sample of 50 television commercials
aired on children s television channels between 8 to 10 PM, then we coded each of the predictor and
criterion variables and conducted a chi square test. Our results indicate that most girl oriented
television programs presented commercials that incorporated girl stereotypical colors. Furthermore,
girls are often associated with bright and pastel colors while boys are associated more with neutral
colors.
Portrayal of Gender Stereotypes in Children s Commercials
Introduction
Upon birth, everyone is acknowledged as either male or female. Excluding physical characteristics,
men and women are often separated into two ends of a spectrum. Yet instead of a clearly divided line,
what separates the two is in fact common societal standards and beliefs; these include cultural and
gender norms and stereotypes. Who established these supposed universal standards , and in what other
ways were they introduced to the general public? One of the most

Descriptive Essay About Vacations
Our vacation started with what seemed like a week of packing when in reality it was only a day or
two. We had been thinking of and planning our trip to Yellowstone for quite a while. We were all
excited for the trip to come. It started with a long drive through Nebraska stopping at night to set up
camp and get some sleep. We were all exhausted and slept like rocks. The next morning we made
breakfast and got to driving again. As always, we stopped at various parks and rest stops to get out and
look around. That afternoon we were in dire need of showers and couldn t seem to find a campsite that
offered showers. We searched through what seemed like a thousand campgrounds. My mom and I had
pretty much given up looking at this point and were ready to resort to bucket baths. When we pulled
into the campsite it turned out to be a rather pleasant campground. There was plenty of privacy, flat
ground, trees, and of course a shower. My mom and I also were pleasantly surprised to find that the
showers were also free. While there was still daylight. We got a fire going set up our tents and looked
around a bit. When we were finally ready we all went and bathed in the glorious creation of soap and
hot running water cascading on our heads and bodies. The next day we got up, packed up our stuff,
and started on our way to our next destination. Rocky Mountain National Park. On our way there we
stopped in a little town for lunch and ate about two loaves of bread in sandwiches. As it started

The Alcoholic Anonymous meetings that I attended were both located in Chandler Arizona. The first
meeting I attended was on Thursday May 28 at 1 pm, it was held at Chandler Presbyterian Church the

and the average age was about 45 50. The second meeting had an equal mix of males and females and
the members appeared much younger, the average age was probably 25 45. Both meeting were set up
pretty much the same, using an open forum. The meetings would began with one of the members
reciting the Alcoholic Anonymous pledge. Then other members would read announcements about the

Essay about The Road to the American Civil War
The majority of speculations regarding the causes of the American Civil War are in some relation to
slavery. While slavery was a factor in the disagreements that led to the Civil War, it was not the
solitary or primary cause. There were three other, larger causes that contributed more directly to the
beginning of the secession of the southern states and, eventually, the start of the war. Those three
causes included economic and social divergence amongst the North and South, state versus national
rights, and the Supreme Court s ruling in the Dred Scott case. Each of these causes involved slavery in
some way, but were not exclusively based upon slavery. The North and South were forming
completely different economies, and therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The South had some urbanization, in cities such as Atlanta, Georgia and Columbia, South Carolina.
These cities served as transportation hubs, mainly for the transporting of goods, specifically cotton.
The South would transport cotton to the northern industries to produce finished goods from the cotton.
The transportation hubs and railroad systems existed more often in the North than in the South,
because there were more large cities. Due to the North and South existing with completely diverse
demographics, geographies, and economies they were unable to understand the needs of one another
in reference to the continuation of their thriving economies. With the North becoming more urbanized
and based on industry, its power was also growing. The bulk of politics, transportation, and industry
all existed in the North. The South began forming an opinion that new political decisions were being
made in the North s favor, and threatening the expansion of slavery, which threatened the expansion of
their economic growth. This began with the formation of Henry Clay s Missouri Compromise of 1820,
which let Missouri come into the Union as a slave state, and Maine would come in as a free state. This
established a clear separation, at the southern border of Missouri, between the slave and free states,

The Glass Cliff Essay
There are many people who love to point out that there are a handful of women in professional
settings that have made it to the top . They like to say that there are more female CEO s now than ever
before and that people should just be grateful for that. What these people fail to recognize is that many
women are promoted to high positions so that they can be a scapegoat if something goes wrong. This
is known as the glass cliff . There are many times when women are promoted to a CEO position when
a company is in serious trouble. If the company fails, well then it s the woman s fault. If the company
comes back and succeeds, well then the company is so forward thinking and generous to its female
employees and they ve done such a good thing allowing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, if men fail, anything other than his gender is used to explain it. This results in men
getting second chances while women don t, because apparently they weren t supposed to be in that
position in the first place. Where women are expected to be working are in secondary jobs, ones that
benefit other people. These include healthcare, education, secretarial, accountants, etc. these types of
jobs are centered around feminine gender role expectations, meaning that they are often sacrificial and
serving. What people are finding within these jobs though is that as it becomes more socially
acceptable for men to be in them, that men are getting promoted faster and getting paid more than the
women that were originally expected to be in those positions. This is known as the glass escalator .
For being a man, an applicant or employee may be given an extra boost in ways that women, and
people of color, are not boosted. Research has showed that men are not only regarded as competent
and promotable by male superiors, but also by female superiors. It s a slippery slope that shows that
female gendered occupations are increasingly becoming more and more operated by a patriarchal

Acute Diarrhoeal Diseases
DISCUSSION
Acute diarrhoeal diseases among the children are one of the most important problems affecting
children in the world, reducing their well being and creating considerable demand for health services
(WHO, 2010). Diarrhoeal diseases are leading cause of preventable death, especially among children
aged under five in developing countries. Diarrhoea is defined as a child with loose or watery stool for
three or more times during a 24 hour period. The frequency and severity of diarrhoea are provoked by
lack of access to enough clean water and sanitary throwing away of human waste, insufficient feeding
practices and hand washing; poor housing circumstances and lack of access to sufficient and
reasonable health care (Gerald et al., 2001). Escherichia coli (EPEC) is a main cause of diarrhoea in
infants and children in addition to pathogens such as Salmonella, Shigella, Yersinia, Vibrio,
Campylobacter sp., Entamoeba histolytica, and Giardia lamblia in developing countries (Ahmed et al.,
2009). Diarrhoeagenic E. coli is the major cause of gastroenteritis in children in the developing world
and is associated with high resistance intensity to antibiotics (Ochoa et al., 2009).
Improper recommendation of antibiotics provoked resistance and increased infectious disease
mortality not only in developing countries but also in developed countries. Aging populations alter in
behaviour and a decline in the development of new antibiotics aggravated a fading situation

  • 2. The Effects of the Berlin Confernece on Africa Essay Africa is a large country and Europe noticed this, they wanted to capitalize on everything it had to offer. Africa has a large quantity of natural resources including oil, diamonds, gold, iron, cobalt, uranium, copper, bauxite, silver, petroleum and cocoa beans, but also woods and tropical fruits. Much of its natural resources are undiscovered or barely harnessed. The Berlin Conference was Africa s undoing in more ways than one. The colonial powers superimposed their domains on the African continent. By the time independence returned to Africa in 1950, the realm had acquired a legacy of political fragmentation that could neither be eliminated nor made to operate satisfactorily (Muller, 301). In 1876 the king of Belgium, Leopold II ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... French claims Pierre de Brazza was ok with French taking control of today s Republic of the Congo. Due to the disappointment of Bismarck s power in European politics caused by Leopold s gamble and later European race for colonies, Germany felt obligated to act and started beginning trips of its own which scared both British and French explorers. • 3. Interactions within Biological Systems Lead to Complex... Enduring Understanding 4.A: Interactions Within biological systems lead to complex properties. Overview Almost every aspect of biology involves interaction between different components and systems. It starts all the way at the cellular level with the interactions of cell organelles that allow a cell to function and it goes all the way up to the way different ecosystems come together to form complex communities and interactions. It is these interactions that make biological systems complex and how cells are specialized in one animal affects the way that animal interacts with the others around it. These interactions create ever changing and unique properties that make organisms function in the way in which they do so. Essential knowledge 4.A.1: The subcomponents of biological molecules and their sequence determine the properties of that molecule Proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, and carbohydrates are the four basic macromolecules. Each of these macromolecules are made up of smaller components that determine the specific macromolecule and how it functions. Proteins Proteins are complex structures made up of chains of amino acids. Each protein has a different function such as enzymes to catalyze reactions or protein hormones to trigger certain functions of a cell. First let s start with the most basic component of a protein: an amino acid. An amino acid is made up of a central carbon atom attached to a hydrogen atom, a carboxyl group, an amino group, and an R group which varies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A societal participant must display a sense of morality; or the ability to determine right from wrong. The moral compass was a result of a humans Superego according to Freud. The superego was believed to develop later on after the Ego, which was in turn developed just after birth. The superego allows for a higher level understanding of human relations; and creates motivations to care for other humans beyond a direct benefit to ones self. A parallel development to the ID Ego Superego process is the psychosexual stages of human consciousness. These stages develop over the first few years a child s life; and Freud believed they were the primary component of sexual development in the psyche. From birth to 18 months a child experiences the oral stage of psychosexuality; this time period finds the child focused on the erogenous zone of the mouth. Exploration comes in the form of eating or sucking on things; and the brain builds a relationship between these actions and pleasure. • 9. An Analysis Of Wallace Stevens s Sunday Morning At the time of World War I, many modern poets began to reconsider their own perspectives about personal philosophy and beliefs. For Wallace Stevens, this period leads to his gradual realization that modern religion no longer makes sense as a source of comfort. In coming to this conclusion, Stevens replaces belief in Christianity with a greater appreciation for nature and everyday beauty. In Sunday Morning Steven s gradually asserts his belief that in the modern era Christian theology disrupts the life, whereas appreciation for nature can provide better spiritual support. Wallace Stevens s Sunday Morning argues that belief in Christian faith is no longer sufficient for dealing with the horrors of modern society, suggesting instead that faith in nature serves as a better source of personal relfection. In the opening stanza of Sunday Morning, Stevens, through contrasting imagery and ominous language, suggests the disruptive effect of Christian ideology. The poem opens with the image of a young woman enjoying coffee and oranges in a sunny chair and the green freedom of a cockatoo / Upon a rug (2 3). The vibrant flavor of orange and colorful image of a green bird present a serene, peaceful morning, full of life and calm fulfillment. The next line, The holy hush of ancient sacrifice, interrupts this quiet scene with a clear sense of foreboding evil, recognizing the alliterative h sound that intensifies the rapid change of tone (5). • 10. Pros And Cons Of Social Hierarchy Theory This particular model is well established in today s modern communities. However, there are certain disadvantages of the said model. It does not take into consideration social aspects such as standard of living and the financial system as a whole. There are several other factors other than biological that are responsible for an illness in individuals such as hierarchy and power that vastly affects a person s health in today s world. Hierarchy is defined as the categorization of collection of individuals in accordance with their financial, societal and professional position in the society. Individuals are divided on the basis of race, religion, class, ethnicity and many more factors which in turn have great impact on the health and services provided to individuals in these distinct categories. Firstly, we will discuss social dominance theory which was developed by Sidanius and Pratto in the year 1999. The theory describes the source of societal hierarchies and how these classifications boost certain groups and adversely affect people in particular groups (Moss, 2016). According to this theory, there are dominant and subordinate groups and there exists inequality in both these groups. There are three different arrangement of hierarchy in all developed economies on the basis of age, gender and subjective reasons such as ethnic group, race, rank, belief and faith. There are five key determinants of this theory. To start with, governing groups possess dominance over other minor groups. Also societal background greatly impacts these groups. It is more prevalent in males than females and is affected by traits of people and socialization happenings. We further discuss Karl max s theory of socialism which classifies individuals in society into three groups namely upper, middle and lower class (Hierarchy structure, 2017). Normally known as the Marxist Social Hierarchy, the said theory explains that the wealthiest individuals owning land belongs to upper class, individuals who work for upper class and sells their talent in return of money comprises of middle class. Lastly, less earning group with no property comprised the lower class. There have been discrepancies amongst all these groups as far as health and health care ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. A Very Brief Biography of Bethoven {Quote about Beethoven} According to musicologist Berry Cooper, Beethoven was born on December 16, 1770 in Bonn, Germany, where his father was the Kapellmeister. His father, Johann, was a respected tenor, violinist, and teacher of both the clavier and the piano. Although Beethoven is not considered a child prodigy, Beethoven did start music at an early age. Around age three, he would often sit on his father s lap and play has his father sang, and abandon his playmates to listen to his father perform. Some historians believe that he started taking formal piano lessons at age five, a normal age to start training in piano, from his father. Between the mix of Beethoven natural talent and his father s pedagogical experience, Beethoven excelled quickly as a piano and violin player. It was said that Beethoven s father was so intent on Beethoven s lessons, that he would often bring Beethoven to tears. When he was seven, he made his public debut in Cologne, with two other of his father s students, where he astounded the audience by the difficulty of music that was played.1 By 1779, his father could no longer teach the young composer and searched for other teachers. After going through many teachers Beethoven found Christian Gottlob Neefe who was the first to allow him to compose. In 1782, his first recorded work was a set of variations on a march by Ernst Christoph Dressler. This was then arranged by Neefe and published. This work, even from such an early age showed many ... The house was 200 years old and has been deserted since the owners died 4 years ago, the house still had all of its decorations and furniture because the owner didn t have any kids,or a will so everything was left in the house all this time. You can think of the prefix hyper , in hyperlink, as a synonym for able to be clicked to initiate some action. Thus a hyper link is a clickable active reference used to initiate an action, namely web navigation. Hypertext and image maps are examples of hyperlinks. In the context of the Web, many often blur the distinction between link and URL, but there is an important difference between the two. One is passive information, while the other is an active element interpreted by a browser to facilitate some action. Inline linking is functionally equivalent to copying. Before the Web, copying was the only way to use images from other works. On the Web, technically this is no longer necessary. The image by itself is a reference to an external document, the image file. Other people s work can be incorporated into other works through a mere reference. We created copyright law under the assumption copying was the only way another could use copyrighted material. I am not concerned with the fact the website did not directly copy the content it merely referenced. In using that reference, the result looks identical to the end user as if they had copied the content, and stored the pages on their own server. Most of the network protocols that we use nowadays were developed like the open protocols. It means everyone who has an access to the network can scan, read, and modify packets easily. Thus, one of the tasks a cybersecurity expert might face is developing a new network architecture or update the existing, vulnerable one. So, the one should have a strategic knowledge to build the network architecture with the proper security. For example, why it is sometimes better to setup the network devices with the dynamic IP addresses, or what might happen if it would be two identical IP addresses in the network. Sometimes it is better to install a switch instead of a router to increase the average network speed and reduce the breaking availability . The knowledge about the networks and computers make the cybersecurity expert thinks critically and provide the strategic ideas about the exact network topology and devices. Also, there are some techniques that might help to protect the dynamic networks against braking down. There are a lot of dynamic network protocols, such as RIP, OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP that operates differently, according to the bandwidth, number of hops, and network availability. The Importance Of Long Distance Relationships Everyone has different ideas of what a long distance relationship is; to some it may mean being on opposite sides of a state, country, or even the world. It seems that as the miles between two partners increases the strain on their relationship and communication increases as well. In recent years the number of long distance relationships have experienced a steady increase, focusing mostly around relationships between college aged partners. Poets provide mankind, through poetry, the ability to explore intimately the wit, will, virtues, vices, and nature of man s soul. At first glance it appears that Christopher Marlowe s, The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus follows the Calvinistic teaching, ...that man is a fallen creature whose will is fatally polluted by Original Sin, but also that a poet, by willfully creating verisimilitudes of this fallen world only ever reproduces sin. (Reisner 332 3) Using Sir Philip Sidney s The Defense of Poesy and applying it to Marlowe s Faustus, will allow exploring and understanding as to why Faustus is more than just a reproduction of sin, but more an artistic imitation to provide a different approach in demonstrating the power of poetry. Faustus s corrupt reality can be used as a means to teach and delight mankind so that he might seek to better the, infected will that keepth us from teaching unto it. (Sidney 10) Marlowe uses Faustus as a paradox of sin in order to prove the true power poets have; the same power Sidney defends in his work. From the very beginning Faustus demonstrates his ability to understand Sidney s erected wit , If we say that we have no sin,/We deceive ourselves, and there s no truth in us. After that La Motte told the cardinal that the queen wanted him to purchase a very expensive diamond necklace for her duty. Obediently the cardinal he got the necklace and gave it to La Motte, expecting the queen to pay for it. Of course, Marie Antoinette never saw the necklace; La Motte gave the diamonds to her husband, who took them to London and sold them. When the jewelers demanded payment, the Diamond Necklace Affair became public. The Cardinal de Rohan and Jeanne La Motte were arrested. The cardinal was tried and acquitted. Servant leaders are motivated by the need to serve the followers (Blanchard, 2001; Chanhoo, Kwangseo, Seung Wan, 2015; Crippen, 2004; Grisaffe, VanMeter, Chonko, 2016; Gyeongchun, 2014; Jit, Sharma, Kawatra, 2016; Liden et al., 2014; Parris Peachey, 2013; Rubio Sanchez, Bosco, Melchar, 2013; Russell Stone, 2002; Spears, 2004; Spiro, 2010; Waterman, 2011; Wilson, 1998; Wong Page, 2003). Place emphasis on the development of followers rather than their own gratification (Jit, Sharma, Kawatra, 2016; Liden et al., 2014; Parris Peachey, 2013; Rubio Sanchez, Bosco, Melchar, 2013; Wong Page, 2003). Furthermore, servant leaders feel a moral responsibility to bring success to the organization, the subordinates, the customers and other stakeholders (Jit, Sharma, Kawatra, 2016; Rubio Sanchez, Bosco, Melchar, 2013; Spears, 2004; Spiro, 2010; Waterman, 2011). Overall, Parris and Peachy clearly exemplify that servant leaders are distinguished by both their primary motivation to serve (what they do) and their self construction (who they are), and from this conscious choice of doing and being they aspire to lead (Parris Peachey, 2013, p. 379). • 40. The Civil War And Emancipation The Civil War, at first, was about slavery; however, the meaning of the war began to change, and it began to be associated with healing. There were actually two main visions of the Civil War, and Blight calls these twin goals and competing interests. One was to deal with the negative impacts, which brought about a sense of healing. The second was regarding the emancipation of slaves. One vision was about healing, while the other was about justice, and Blight notes this in the prologue and states, Americans faced an overwhelming task after the Civil War and emancipation: how to understand the tangled relationship between two profound ideas healing and justice (Blight, Prologue, page 3). In addition, in part two of Blight s video ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He states, We never found an adequate way in this society to put healing and justice in a historical balance (Blight, online resource). Only one had to win over the other, and the winner was healing. He also says the same in Chapter 1; he concludes, But the new nation awaiting rebirth also had the thought of black equality on one side, the knowledge of sectional reunion on the other side, and no muse yet in the middle holding their hands (Blight, Chapter 1, page 30). Again, Blight s argument is that it probably never even was possible for there to exist a balance between healing and justice. Blight states in the prologue, Defeated white southerners and black former slaves faced each other on the ground, seeing and knowing the awful chasm between their experiences, unaware that any path would lead to their reconciliation (Blight, Prologue, page 3). The sacrificing of racial justice was an inevitable cost of attempts to reconcile between the north and the south. An example of that from Chapter 22 in Bailey is the Ku Klux Klan. Numerous whites disliked the success that blacks were experiencing, so they formed the Ku Klux Klan. Members of the society instilled fear into blacks in order to prevent them from voting. They used extreme violence, which, by the 1890s, led to nearly the disenfranchisement of all blacks. Basically, because attempts to forge reconciliation between the north and the south ... • 41. Target Corporation Mission Statement Target was founded by George Draper Dayton in 1902. He was born in New York and wanted to explore the markets growing in the Midwest. Because of this, he purchased land in Minneapolis and began Dayton Dry Goods Company, which became what we know today as Target. Dayton s principals are the foundation for many of Target Corporation s values to this day. Dayton s store soon became synonymous with reliability and fair business practices. After Dayton s death in 1938, he passed his business along to his son, who grew the Dayton Company into a nationwide retailer. In 1911 the company was renamed as The Dayton Company because it better reflected the variety of products and services that the company offers. In 1916 The Dayton Company became a founding ... Further, in 1956, the company began to cater towards the needs of busy suburban families and opened another branch in the Southdale Mall. The company continued to expand in the years to come. Looking for new ways to entice consumers, in 1960 The Dayton Company looked to cater towards value oriented shoppers seeking a higher quality experience (Target Through The Years). While these terms are generally used in relationship to promotional activities, the term segmentation has relevance for market research as well. Segmentation involves dividing the larger universe of consumers or businesses into smaller units that represent more specific target audiences. Positioning is the next step whereby companies determine, based on the segments they have identified, how they can effectively promote what they have to offer compared to competitive offerings and positioning. • 43. Toothpaste Modern Toothpaste Toothpaste is a paste or gel dentifrice used to clean and maintain the aesthetics and health of teeth. Toothpaste use can promote good oral hygiene: it can aid in the removal of dental plaque and food from the teeth, it can aid in the elimination and/or masking of halitosis, and it can deliver active ingredients such as fluoride or xylitol to prevent tooth and gum disease (gingivitis). In most or all developed countries, usage after each meal is encouraged. Most toothpaste contains chemicals which are toxic when ingested, and is not intended to be swallowed. Sodium fluoride (NaF) is the most common form; some brands use sodium monofluorophosphate (Na2PO3F). Much of the toothpaste sold in the United States has 1000 to 1100 parts per million fluoride ion from one of these active ingredients, in the UK the fluoride content is often higher, a NaF of 0.32% w/w (1,450 ppm fluoride) is not uncommon. This consistency leads some to conclude that cheap toothpaste is just as good as expensive toothpaste. When the magazine Consumer Reports rated toothpastes in 1998, 30 of the 38 were judged excellent. Application of fluoride also prevents moisture build up in some surfaces.[citation needed] Other ingredients are less commonly used, including Hydroxyapatite nanocrystals and calcium phosphate for remineralization,[6] and strontium chloride or potassium nitrate to reduce sensitivity. [edit] Other ingredients In addition to fluoride, the other fundamental ingredient in most toothpastes is an abrasive.[citation needed] Studies have shown that abrasives in toothpaste reduce the time needed to remove plaque from the teeth by approximately 50%. Abrasives, like the dental polishing agents used in dentist s offices, also cause a small amount of enamel erosion which is termed polishing action. Some brands contain powdered white mica which acts as a mild abrasive, and also adds a cosmetically pleasing glittery shimmer to the paste. Many may contain frustules of dead ... • 46. Gender Stereotypes In Television Commercials Portrayal of Gender Stereotypes in Children s Television Commercials. Liuyi Bian University of Florida Abstract The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in gender portrayal in children s television commercials. The hypothesis that stated, if an observed television program is determined to be intended for girls, then the colors used in the commercials would be predominantly intended for girls, is strongly supported. To do content analysis, we first gathered a sample of 50 television commercials aired on children s television channels between 8 to 10 PM, then we coded each of the predictor and criterion variables and conducted a chi square test. Our results indicate that most girl oriented television programs presented commercials that incorporated girl stereotypical colors. Furthermore, girls are often associated with bright and pastel colors while boys are associated more with neutral colors. Portrayal of Gender Stereotypes in Children s Commercials Introduction Upon birth, everyone is acknowledged as either male or female. Excluding physical characteristics, men and women are often separated into two ends of a spectrum. Yet instead of a clearly divided line, what separates the two is in fact common societal standards and beliefs; these include cultural and gender norms and stereotypes. Who established these supposed universal standards , and in what other ways were they introduced to the general public? One of the most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Descriptive Essay About Vacations Our vacation started with what seemed like a week of packing when in reality it was only a day or two. We had been thinking of and planning our trip to Yellowstone for quite a while. We were all excited for the trip to come. It started with a long drive through Nebraska stopping at night to set up camp and get some sleep. We were all exhausted and slept like rocks. The next morning we made breakfast and got to driving again. As always, we stopped at various parks and rest stops to get out and look around. That afternoon we were in dire need of showers and couldn t seem to find a campsite that offered showers. We searched through what seemed like a thousand campgrounds. My mom and I had pretty much given up looking at this point and were ready to resort to bucket baths. When we pulled into the campsite it turned out to be a rather pleasant campground. There was plenty of privacy, flat ground, trees, and of course a shower. My mom and I also were pleasantly surprised to find that the showers were also free. While there was still daylight. We got a fire going set up our tents and looked around a bit. When we were finally ready we all went and bathed in the glorious creation of soap and hot running water cascading on our heads and bodies. The next day we got up, packed up our stuff, and started on our way to our next destination. Rocky Mountain National Park. On our way there we stopped in a little town for lunch and ate about two loaves of bread in sandwiches. As it started ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While slavery was a factor in the disagreements that led to the Civil War, it was not the solitary or primary cause. There were three other, larger causes that contributed more directly to the beginning of the secession of the southern states and, eventually, the start of the war. Those three causes included economic and social divergence amongst the North and South, state versus national rights, and the Supreme Court s ruling in the Dred Scott case. Each of these causes involved slavery in some way, but were not exclusively based upon slavery. The North and South were forming completely different economies, and therefore ... The transportation hubs and railroad systems existed more often in the North than in the South, because there were more large cities. Due to the North and South existing with completely diverse demographics, geographies, and economies they were unable to understand the needs of one another in reference to the continuation of their thriving economies. With the North becoming more urbanized and based on industry, its power was also growing. The bulk of politics, transportation, and industry all existed in the North. The South began forming an opinion that new political decisions were being made in the North s favor, and threatening the expansion of slavery, which threatened the expansion of their economic growth. This began with the formation of Henry Clay s Missouri Compromise of 1820, which let Missouri come into the Union as a slave state, and Maine would come in as a free state. They like to say that there are more female CEO s now than ever before and that people should just be grateful for that. There are many times when women are promoted to a CEO position when a company is in serious trouble. If the company fails, well then it s the woman s fault. • 51. Acute Diarrhoeal Diseases DISCUSSION Acute diarrhoeal diseases among the children are one of the most important problems affecting children in the world, reducing their well being and creating considerable demand for health services (WHO, 2010). Diarrhoeal diseases are leading cause of preventable death, especially among children aged under five in developing countries. Diarrhoea is defined as a child with loose or watery stool for three or more times during a 24 hour period. The frequency and severity of diarrhoea are provoked by lack of access to enough clean water and sanitary throwing away of human waste, insufficient feeding practices and hand washing; poor housing circumstances and lack of access to sufficient and reasonable health care (Gerald et al., 2001). Escherichia coli (EPEC) is a main cause of diarrhoea in infants and children in addition to pathogens such as Salmonella, Shigella, Yersinia, Vibrio, Campylobacter sp., Entamoeba histolytica, and Giardia lamblia in developing countries (Ahmed et al., 2009). Diarrhoeagenic E. coli is the major cause of gastroenteritis in children in the developing world and is associated with high resistance intensity to antibiotics (Ochoa et al., 2009). Improper recommendation of antibiotics provoked resistance and increased infectious disease mortality not only in developing countries but also in developed countries. Aging populations alter in behaviour and a decline in the development of new antibiotics aggravated a fading situation (Dandekar and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
