Virtual Organization Strategy
Virtual Organization Strategy
Learning Team Names FIN/370 Date Instructor Name
Virtual Organization Strategy Berry s Bug Blasters is a privately held business and wants to expand its
operations. The business is considering three options for moving forward with the expansion plan. The
first option is going public with an IPO, or Initial Public Offering. The second option is to acquire
another similar business within the industry, and finally the third option is merging with another
organization. All three of these options ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The opportunities offered to public companies include market exposure, greater access to capital
funds, and appeal to the most desirable job seekers and investors. Multiple finance opportunities
however may be the greatest benefit of an IPO. Because Berry s is a growing company seeking
expansion, becoming a public company with an initial public offering could prove to be an
advantageous option. As with IPOs, there are strengths, and weaknesses associated with acquisitions.
Obviously, those strengths and weaknesses must be evaluated thoroughly prior to making the decision
to seek an acquisition. Opportunities, although mainly positive, are also essential considerations. The
opportunities associated with acquisitions are readily apparent and correspond with the strengths of
this option for expansion. Acquisitions provide important opportunities for increased shareholder
value, brand recognition, and profitability, in addition to certain tax benefits. A merger can reveal
numerous opportunities for a smaller company seeking to increase sales without depleting resources or
cash flow. If for example, Berry s has established a strong customer loyalty and presence in a
particular locale, but has not been successful in expanding to others, a merger with a competitor could
easily lead to that opportunity. This broadening of horizons is commonly known in the business world
as a horizontal merger. A

Individual Mandate In Healthcare
The individual mandate was established under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
(PPACA), and works together with other ACA provisions to create a platform for affordable insurance
for all (especially the poor and sick). The individual mandate requires most individuals to maintain
minimum essential coverage for themselves and their dependents. Minimum essential coverage is
listed in Section 5000A of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) along with its regulations. Comprehensive
coverage is considered to be the minimum essential coverage, which includes public coverage such as
Medicaid and Medicare, and private insurance such as individual insurance, employer sponsored
insurance, and non group insurance. Those individuals who do not comply

“Transactional vs. Relationship Selling”
1. Introduction:
The account relationship strategy a company chooses to follow represents the type of relationship, it is
going to develop towards its customers. Within the account relationship strategy, there are three
different kinds in which the relationship of you and your customer can be differentiated: The
transactional relationship, consultative relationship and enterprise relationship.
In my following term paper I would like to show you what the key elements of every relationship is
and for further explanation examples will document every relationship. At the end a real life example
will show an industry which is right now making a shift from transactional relationship selling to a
consultative approach.

But where they focus on is cost leadership, that s how they differentiate themselves from their
competitors. To achieve this goal of being a cost leader, a strict policy towards the number of
employees is of essential importance. So service personnel at Aldi markets isn t there to advise
customers, because they think their product portfolio is more or less self explanatory. Their function is
more to backfill stock at the market. They can give advise where certain products can be found but
real customer consulting does not take place. The relationship Aldi tries to build to its customers is not
through outstanding service performance, price and quality are the aspects which count for Aldi and
most of their customers. As already mentioned in the explanation of a transactional relationship, Aldi
is just operating at the B2C market, where a transactional relationship to your customers is wide
spread.
2.2. Consultative relationship
2.2.1. Definition and explanation The main difference here to a transactional relationship is the effort
which is done by supplier. If the demand of the customer is there, here a more detailed plan or more
personalized concept can be evaluated. This offer can create additional value and provides further
benefits, next to the product itself. The disadvantage of this type of relationship is the additional effort
which has to be done by the salesperson or the whole

Culture In Santha Rama s By Any Other Name
Culture is the intersection of people and life itself. It s how we deal with life, love, death, birth,
disappointment... all of that is expressed in culture once said by the actor Wendell Pierce. (Brainy

their surroundings. There are many things that can help shape someone s perspective, though culture is
a relatively big factor in shaping the way he/she views the world and the people within because it is
the platform of which family, opinions, and and people in your everyday life shape your perspective.
Culture is known as a person s way of life meaning how each individual lives their lives. Everyone has

Essay on The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is written from the point of view of Jean Dominique Bauby, a
French journalist and former editor in chief of ELLE magazine, in Paris. Bauby suffered a severe
stroke on December 8, 2005, leaving him with a rare condition known as locked in syndrome, in
which the brain continues to function normally, but the body is completely paralyzed. Jean Do
retained some movement in his head and left eye, and wrote his memoir through a tedious method of
blinking. An interlocutor would read aloud a special alphabet, ordered by their frequency of use in
French language, and Bauby would blink whenever the person reached the correct letter (Wikipedia).
Through this method, the reader is offered a glimpse into the mind ... Show more content on

Jean goes on to share his experiences at the hospital, explaining his life on a day to day basis. He talks
about his different doctors and therapists, the tortures that come with an inability to move, and what it
s like to be bathed, dressed, and fed. His right eye is eventually sewn up, as the eyelid no longer
functioned. Bauby describes the communication code he sets up with his speech therapist, Sandrine, in
which she recites the alphabet and he blinks when she calls the right letter. Friends and family
sometimes visit Jean Do. He recounts a day he spent with his children and their mother, on the beach,
for father s day, among other visits. Bauby also reminisce about his life before the stroke, recalling his
early days as a journalist, shaving his father, a pilgrimage he once took with his lover, and, finally, the
day of his stroke. At the end of the book, Bauby sees the contents of a half open purse on a nearby
table, a hotel room key, a metro ticket, and a hundred franc note, and realizes that these ordinary
objects have become alien to him: remnants of a way of life he has become a stranger to. This forces
Bauby to realize that he is beginning a new life, and must acknowledge this in order to move ahead.
This differs from the beginning of the book, in which he only displays a longing for life to return to
how it was before the stroke. It is not until he truly accepts his condition that Bauby s mind is able to

Serial Killers Case Study
Introduction
Throughout history, people have been fascinated by the topic of serial killers, primarily because one
cannot understand why an individual would be willing to take multiple lives with no remorse. For
many years investigators, sociologist, and criminologist have continuously researched these
individuals. Current research on anti social personality disorder and psychopathic behavior has led to
information on serial killer s biological development and environmental factors. There is very little
information focusing on the killer s child hood which may have played a part in the individuals violent
killings later in life. This case study will focus on Jeffery Dahmer, while tracing his psychological

Over the years, there have been many studies conducted on child neglect and/ or abuse and its long
term effects on social, emotional, and physical development in children. It has been founded that
children who witness violence in their homes have a likelihood of suffering from long term emotional,
physical and mental trauma. In an article Childhood Psychological Abuse as Harmful as Sexual or
Physical Abuse 2008 posted by the American psychological association stated that: Children who had
been psychologically abused suffered from anxiety, depression, low self esteem, symptoms of post
traumatic stress and suicidality at the same rate and, in some cases, at a greater rate than children who
were physically or sexually abused. Among the three types of abuse, psychological maltreatment was
most strongly associated with depression, general anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, attachment
problems and substance abuse. Psychological maltreatment that occurred alongside physical or sexual
abuse was associated with significantly more severe and far ranging negative outcomes than when
children were sexually and physically abused and not psychologically abused, the study found.
Moreover, sexual and physical abuse had to occur at

very valuable in observing the student I chose to observe.
The student I chose, J, is in a team member s class. He caught my attention at my school s academic

culture I think the best way to get to know any student and their culture better is to talk and listen. You
can learn a lot from listening.
Before delving into my observations on J I want to first describe what his second language acquisition
stage is. Based on what I observed from his communication in class and his writing I have concluded
that he is stage three: the speech emergence stage. He can communicate in simple sentences, but when
he communicates in longer and complex sentences he makes grammatical mistakes. Although he has
been in the country for four years I feel his language development has been hindered by being pushed
along in school, never getting enough one on one instruction, and not enough ELL support in terms of
a teacher pulling him aside to help more often. In a more intense supportive environment I think he
would already be in stage four. Reed (2003) informs readers that having an understanding of ELL
students will dramatically improve the ability to understand and teach an ELL student more.
As I stated before J takes his education very important. His teacher told me that he almost always cries
on a daily basis when he feels like he did not do a good job. Although she said that I did not observe
that while I was in there. He

Propaganda In World War 1
The Effect of U.S. Propaganda in World War One
World War One was a pivotal point in the evolution of how warfare was implemented to the battle
field. The beginning of war started with similar technology and tactics in the 19th century, but by the
end of the war technology along with tactics will change extensively. All sides of the war eventually
would use telephones, wireless communications, armored tanks, and even airplanes to their advantage
(Kaminski, 1989). Away from the battle field though a new device was constructed for the war effort,
a literary device; the use of propaganda. Although propaganda was never a tangible use in physical
battle it still had a great effect in the outcome of World War One, an effect tantamount to any utility ...

Propaganda gave way to Americans joining the Red Cross, buying liberty goods, or planting victory
gardens and other various positive activities in an effort to better the war effort, but in the midst of
these efforts also revealed negative efforts by US citizens. The recent German immigration in the
1870s and 1880s posed a problem in the social relations between non German Americans. Being Anti
German was often associated with patriotism; many citizens burned German books, and removed
German composers from symphony programs (Greve, 2014). Eventually things turned away from
more fickle matters considering German accustoms and turned towards darker matters. Those deemed
too German faced ridicule, threats, accusations of disloyalty or espionage and sometimes physical
harm (Greve, 2014). The social conditions for many German immigrants were vastly changed during
this period of anti German rhetoric. Many German immigrants felt the need to Americanize (Greve,
2014). German culture was hindered with many immigrants refusing to speak in their native tongue as
well as teaching German as a second language, America had truly fallen into a state of
Germanophobia (Greve, 2014).

Life of Pi, Shutter Island Essay
Have you ever wondered what is it like to be insane? We often take our mental health for granted, but
the novel Life of Pi as well as the movie Shutter Island encourage us to look deeper within ourselves
and to truly be grateful for the fact that we most of us are mentally stable. That is just one idea that
these two works explore. What are they exactly about though? Life of Pi, a novel by Yann Martel
published in 2001, is about a sixteen year old Indian boy named Piscine Molitor Patel who
experienced a horrendous shipwreck. Shutter Island, a movie directed by Martin Scorsese from 2010,
on the other hand, is about a man named Andrew Laeddis who experienced his own traumatic event.
Both of these works touch upon the ideas of alter ego, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was therefore with this quotation that readers discovered that Pi s alter ego was Richard Parker. In
Shutter Island, Andrew also created an alter ego for himself. His alter ego was a man named Edward
Daniels, which was an anagram for Andrew Laeddis. As with Life of Pi, this alter ego was not
revealed to the viewers of the film until the end when Andrew faced Dr. Cawley in the lighthouse. Dr.
Cawley said, The names have the same letters. Edward Daniels has exactly the same thirteen letters as
Andrew Laeddis, the same as Rachel Solando and Dolores Chanal. The names are anagrams for each
other. In that moment, it became evident that Andrew had created an alter ego for himself. The next
similarity between the two works in relation to alter ego is the fact that the main characters both used
their alter egos to distance themselves from the acts they committed. In Life of Pi, Pi used his alter ego
to cover up his killing of the cook during the journey on the lifeboat. Pi did this because he could not
believe that he allowed himself to stoop down to such low levels in order to kill a man. He expressed
this when he said (referring to the cook), He was such an evil man. Worse still, he met evil in me
selfishness, anger, ruthlessness. I must live with that (Martel 345). The way that Pi coped with his
crime was by creating his alter ego Richard Parker. In Shutter Island, Andrew similarly used his alter
ego to disguise his

although individuals can never discover their score, it may hinder their ability to obtain a visa, student

Ergot (Claviceps purpurea Tul.) is a poisonous fungus that is hazardous to animals and humans. It
appears to be a small, hard, black, elongated structure that grows on and contaminants grains, which is
called scelrotium. The appearance tends to look like mold. When eaten in quantity or small amounts
over a period of time it can be highly toxic. Furthermore, it is a major problem for humans in North
America but even more severe for animals. Humans are susceptible to being contaminated with this

was caused mainly from eating bread made from rye grains contaminated with ergot (p. 20).

Yu Wenzhou Stigma
According to Erving Goffman, stigma is an attribute that makes a person different from others in a
social category, and reduces the person to a tainted or discounted status (134), but any difference
between human beings could be potentially stigmatizing. Anything outside of the ordinary or the
standard, that is, anything that creates a sense of uncertainty can in turn drive people to fear
differences, fear the future, fear the unknown and therefore stigmatize that which is different and
unknown. (Coleman Brown, 155) Then, the question is, would stigma persist if people didn t feel
threatened, inferior, or insecure? In the case of Yu Wenzhou, the Captain of Blue Rain in the Chinese

strengths over his weaknesses Wenzhou s ability to analyze (00:10:45 00:11:12) entitles him Master
Tactician and King of Analysis. In fact, his tactical ability was like an all knowing God (Blue, Chapter
338) because he found all the dead angles in the battle and launched a surprise attack against his
opponents. In this instance, it seems like the Chinese society sees disability as something that can be
compensated for, and if the person being stigmatized does not feel inferior, then the stigma would not

but he also playfully calls himself a handicapped person (00:11:51 00:11:54) as he challenges Ye Xiu

suggestion that people with low self esteem are more likely to identify and maintain negative
stereotypes. However, it may be more reasonable to consider Wenzhou s disability as a balancing act
rather than a compensation. According to Ye Xiu, the God

Analysis Of The Kings Of Summer
Two components that have an immense impact on the quality and caliber of a film are the editing and
sound found within the film. These two aspects alone can make or break a film. In the film The Kings
of Summer, directed by Jordan Vogt Roberts, these two elements collaborate to highlight certain
emotions and key moments in the film s plot. Some of the sub elements of these two components that
can easily be identified within the film include the flashforward, the flashback, both nondiegetic and
diegetic sound, semi diegetic sound, graphic matching and voice offs. Within the film The Kings Of
Summer, editing and sound are methodically and tactfully utilized in order to produce a film that is
both entertaining and meaningful for the audience. Two of the most prominent aspects of editing that
can be identified within this film are the flashforward and the flashback. At the commencement of the
film, a flashforward is employed. It shows drums being played in a forest by the three characters that
were yet to be introduced to the audience. Then the scene quickly cuts to the main character, Joe, in
the shower at his house. This flashforward is used in order to provide the audience with an idea of
what is to come in the not so distant future of the film. Another flashforward is utilized when Joe,
Patrick, and Biaggio are living in the forest. This flashforward shows Joe and the female lead, Kelly,
in the woods. It portrays the two in a romantic light, and includes a confession from Kelly that she
wants to stay and live in the forest with Joe. This flashforward, unlike the previous example, does not
come true. However, it is used to portray the deep emotions of Joe, and his longing for female
companionship. These emotions become relevant when Kelly falls for Joe s friend Patrick instead of
him. During the conclusion of the film, a flashback is employed so the audience can relive the
previous events that occurred within the film. When Biaggio is in the hospital, a flashback reminds the
audience of when Joe and Patrick first entered the forest, at the onset of their adventure. This
flashback brings the audience back to a happier and lighter point in the story line. In the film The

The Renaissance was a rebirth of cultural awareness and learning that took place during 1400 1500.
Art became a branch of learning during the Renaissance. It was a period of time when art was very
important. Artists had finally recaptured the amazing detail and realism that the Greeks and Romans
perfected. Artists broke boundaries with new exciting mediums and bright colors. Filippo Brunelleschi
permitted artists to decide the proportional size of a figure by inventing the vanishing point

The types provided by ancient buildings and works of art also encouraged the development of new

Crucial to the development of Renaissance art was the emergence of the artist as a creator, sought after
and respected for his intellect and imagination. Art became respected as a means for religious and
social teaching, and a form of personal, visual expression.
Although the progression of Italian Renaissance art was a continuous process, it wass usually divided
into three major phases: Early, High, and Late Renaissance. The last phase has been the subject of
complicated interpretations that recognize many opposing and comparing trends. Some

The Australian Emissions Trading Scheme
Abstract
The Australian emissions trading scheme (ETS) has been the hope of climate policy makers and
environmental scientists alike to reduce the national carbon footprint. Replacing the implemented
carbon tax law, the Australian ETS is a political issue due to the economic and social problems it
entails. With the carbon tax being repealed recently by the current government, the comparison to the
unpopular European Union ETS further emphasizes on its setbacks that it poses (Wood, 2010; Adams,
2014; Watkins, 2014). Hence a move to the ETS will be unlikely in the future.
Introduction: The Australian Carbon Footprint
Australia has the highest greenhouse emissions per capita as of 2009 (Figure 1). This is attributed to
its heavy reliance on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Carbon Tax Law and Emissions Trading Scheme
Up to 2013, successive Australian governments have lobbied for an emissions trading scheme (ETS)
to curb national emissions. One such legislative measure is the carbon tax law passed in Parliament in
July 2012 through Acts such as the Clean Energy Act. Using a fixed taxation price of $A23 per tonne
which will increase by 2.5% per annum, the carbon tax law applies to the company operations and
facilities of Australia s top 500 polluters which exceed the annual direct emissions limit (Foran, 2011;
Guglyuvatyy, 2012). These high polluting industries range from electrical power plants to the mining
sector. The carbon tax law will subsequently transit into a cap and trade ETS managed by the Climate
Change Authority in 2015. Also known as the Carbon Pricing Mechanism, this statutory institution
will supervise carbon prices on an auction market, making the prices of greenhouse gases flexible
(Guglyuvatyy, 2012; Adams, 2014). The aim of the ETS is to create economic incentives to entice
industries to take environmentally friendly measures without negatively affecting the national job
market and economic growth (AuGov, 2012; Adams, 2014). At that point, the Australian government
also projected future aims of linking the national ETS with that of the European Union (AuGov, 2012;
Watkins, 2014).

Anabolic Steroid Analysis
Anabolic steroids were first introduced in1932 and experiment was conducted on enhancement of
soldier s physical strength by Nazi Germany (Kam Yarrow, 2005). Furthermore, the synthetic steroids
initially developed for treatment of hypogonadism wherein insufficient production of testosterone in
testes delays the normal growth, development, and affects sexual function (National Institute on Drug

delayed puberty and other disease. Synthetic steroids initially have been developed by scientist to

Sexual Love And The Freedom And Happiness Shared By Two...
The Song portrays the virtue of sexual love and the freedom and happiness shared by two lovers. The
Song speaks of a sexual love between man and woman who stands equally before each other in the
privacy of their intimacy with no consciousness of the hierarchies of their public world. Equal
standing in its most encompassing meaning neither one is superior nor inferior, but equally ready to
initiate and invite, equally desiring and eager to please and be pleased, both transparent about fantasies
and pleasures received, equally vocal to endear and arouse, same sense of wholeness and brokenness,
of shamelessness and abandon. Passion is matched with passion; longings are returned with the same
intensity no holding back and no concern for anything except to ravish each other, both take pleasure,
and absorbed in each other in their own Eden. Thus, sex is honorable, pleasurable, and paradisal. The
Song is devoid of any patriarchal mindset; the woman exhibits a consciousness of being highly
valued. If she s in a patriarchal society, then she has learned to be counter cultural, just as the Hebrew
Bible is counter cultural with ANE and other ancient literature. She neither sees herself oppressed nor
in a subordinate position. She values her sensuality and sexuality and sees herself as good as anyone
else, even if her patriarchal world refuses to offer equal opportunity for her kind. Or perhaps she truly
lives in a heterarchical culture? She does not strive to be equal with men

The Field Of A Medical Office Administration
The field of study I am particularly interested in is Medical Office Administration. Based on my own
research this job involves sitting for long periods of time, requires extensive knowledge of computers
and the ability of multitasking. The roles of this job include effectively managing an office. They work
in a variety of fields ranging from a physician s office to a rest home facility. There are particular
skills needed to do well in this, which include being well organized, good communication skills, and
an understanding of medical terms. This job is more suitable to people who work well with computer
technology. In addition, someone who is able to pay attention to details would succeed in this field. I
am interested in this field based on the heavy use with computers and the fact that there is a variety of
job options out there. In the Medical Office Administration field, these types of jobs will be in higher
demand as the population continues to grow.
With this particular job, daily duties will include answering the telephone, scheduling appointments,
organizing medical records, processing insurance forms, etc. Also someone in this field could have
bookkeeping tasks or use spreadsheets. It is necessary to have throughough knowledge of Microsoft
Word, Excel, and also PowerPoint to effectively complete these duties. If any doctor or other health
official needs something done, it is an Administrator s job to effectively complete that. Primarily since

Christ The Rock Church Analysis
If you were not aware of the recent news from the Fox Valley, Christ The Rock Church s much loved

months. While such news still pains me, there is still that analytical part of me that remains ensconced
and seemingly irremovable from years of dealing with hundreds of such events; both professionally
and privately. Being one who has survived that type of feeling of hopelessness further emboldens that
mindset. I come as one who knows what it is like to sit alone in one s patrol car, empowered with the
full authority (and arguably, more) of the State at their disposal, yet feeling powerless against the
forces set against them. I experienced the feel the muzzle of one s service weapon against their temple

John Updike s A P, As A Reflector Of Our Society
American Perfection It has become a fact of life that our world is governed categorization. There is
nothing in our realm of awareness that has not been labelled or ranked. These practices originated
from the basic human conditioning for survival and understanding. However, they soon developed
into numerous attitudes, behaviors, judgments and systems of policies that have constrained and
segregated our population (Kadi). Heeding the ominous effects of these systems of classification, John
Updike utilizes his short story A P , as a reflector of our society. Updike exercises the literary elements
of a condescending tone, commonplace setting and the characterization of Queenie to showcase the
influence of classism in our country. Updike s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This internalized classism is commonly associated with feelings of inadequacy towards upper class
people, contempt towards one s family, as well as feelings of superiority and blame towards others
considered even lower in class than themselves (Action, Class). Updike showcases these patterns in
Sammy s comparison between Queenie and his own family: All of a sudden I slid right down her
voice into her living room. Her father and the other men were standing around in ice cream coats and
bow ties and the women were in sandals picking up herring snacks on toothpicks off a big plate and
they were all holding drinks the color of water with olives and sprigs of mint in them. When my
parents have somebody over they get lemonade and if it s a real racy affair Schlitz in tall glasses with

describes the A P and its shoppers, referring to them as the sheep (Updike 17) and houseslaves
(Updike 18), reflects the superiority and disdain he feels towards them. Updike further accentuates
this class system through the characterization of Queenie and his description of her walking through
the A P, as if she didn t walk in her bare feet that much (Updike 17), with a prim face (Updike 17) and
obvious air of elegance. Queenie s authority in her statement, We are decent , her lower lip

and hundreds were killed. The negotiations were not made between strikers and the government
leaders. The strike ended and the strikers thought the strike was a failure. The strike lasted 6 weeks.
The workers were forced to sign the Yellow Dog Contracts which meant they were not allowed to join
a union. (Reilly,2015,1,2,6 para) The historical significance of this event is that workers gathered
together to stand up for their rights and what is right. This was one of the largest strikes that occurred
in Canada. People realized the significance of workers and how they contribute to the community. The

Analysis Of Charles Finney s The Reality Of Free Will
Lane describes Charles Finney as one of the early Evangelicals. Born in 1792, he began preaching and
later holding unconventional revivals in 1824. Finney stressed the reality of free will, meaning that
man has a choice in the matters of sin. God tells us what is right and threatens us with sanctions, but
the choice is ours (pp. 253 254). The weakness of Evangelical approach, according to Lane, is that the
evangelist tries to bring about an instantaneous decision of the will rather than a radical change of
character which in one sense is a life long process. Obviously, Lane s insistence that Finney s system
holds that the will is totally unconditioned and random seems to show an opinion that reveals a
creeping of moral relativism. Lane insists that Finney held morality to be either/or acts of will, this in
opposition the Lane s concept that morality is a cultivation of moral character (p. 254). Finney is also
noted by Lane as not believing in the concept of original sin due to his stand on infants not having a
sinful nature. However, Finney acknowledges that as the infant develops reaching an age of moral
accountability sin is a certainty. In this, I think the weakness Lane points out in Evangelicals is, of
itself, weak. Augustine, an early church father in 354, viewed and argued that humans can live sinless
lives through their natural endowments and are responsible to do so. It s the catalyst that set off the
great controversy over original sin, free will, and

Zen In The Art Of Archery Summary
Zen in the Art of Archery, by Eugen Herrigel describes the ritualistic arts of discipline and focus that
the Zen religion focuses around. In this book, Herrigel describes many aspects of how archery is, in
fact, not a sport, but an art form, and is very spiritual to those in the east. The process he describes
shows how he overcame his initial inhibitions and began to look toward new ways of seeing and
understanding. In the beginning of the book Herrigel tells us that he is writing about a ritual and
religious practice, whose aim consists in hitting a spiritual goal, so that fundamentally the marksman
aims at himself and may even succeed in hitting himself. (Herrigel p. 4) Through his studies, the
author discovers that within the Zen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Let go and enlightenment will come to you. This is the same underlying concept that Zen and
Buddhism rely on. If one focuses too much on meditation then he will never actually clear your head
and reach the blissful goal of enlightenment. His master explains this as, The right art is purposeless,
aimless! The more obstinately you try to learn how to shoot the arrow for the sake of hitting the goal,
the less you will succeed in the one and the further the other will recede. (Herrigel p. 31) So, for
Herrigel to learn the art of archery he must cease to strive towards hitting the target and stop grasping
at his goal. Instead he must focus only on the moment and let the goal come to him.
As Herrigel spent more time with his master he learned more and more about the Zen ways of
thinking. Throughout his time there, his master taught him time after time that it is important to be in
the moment when the moment is happening. To reach your goal you must allow yourself to become
part of it and not focus on one individual aspect. The right frame of mind for the artists is only reached
when the preparing and the creating, the technical and the artistic, the material and the spiritual, the
project and the object, flow together without breaks. (Herrigel p. 43) All of your actions up to reaching
your goal should flow from you as if without effort and as part of your self. Is it I who draw the bow,
or is it the bow that draws me into the state of highest tension? Do

The narrative of the decline of the most famous paved highway in American history reads like a tragic

When most people think of the West Indies, they mainly think of Jamaica, Barbados, and Hispaniola

Realism Within Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho
Realism within Alfred Hitchcock s movie Psycho (1960) is in the form of his camera technique. In this
film, Hitchcock used the camera as the diegesis. He manipulates the camera to draw the attention of
the audience. When the credits suddenly appear on the screen using editing transiting lines across. He
uses a sharp musical score throughout the credits to give the audience the sense of horror and
suspense. The symbolism with in the credits is the dark being the dominant color and creates a visual
of silent film era movies. At the beginning of the movie the camera pans from the city skyline to the
window then a low shot of the bed where Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) and her lover Sam Loomis
(John Gavin) are having an affair just like a bird. When Marion returns home from her job. The
camera takes on human qualities as it roams around the room looking questionably at the money
envelope. Hitchcock uses a close up shot of the money along with suspenseful music to show the
audience that Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) is going to steal the money.
Psycho has goes back to the characteristics of the silent film and film noir movies. It conveys a lot of
the dialogue mainly though close up shots of the characters faces. This is to show the emotions more
precise for the audience. Majority of movies were starting to rely on actors talking in order to tell the

The instability, created by a decade of internal conflict in Afghanistan, allowed for outsider groups,
such as the Soviet Union and later the Taliban, to seize power there. Even before the Soviet Invasion,
Afghanistan was burdened with political instability, which stemmed from a lack of leadership at the
presidential level and a power struggle between America and the USSR for access to the Afghan elites.
This period of instability began under President Mohammed Daoud, who himself took power through
a military coup against the previous leader, when he attempted to shift Afghanistan away from Soviet

Themes in Literature
Often in literature there are common themes that occur throughout eras and genres to link two
otherwise different pieces of writing. One particular example of this occurrance can be seen in
Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale and William Shakespeare s The Taming of the Shrew.
Although these works have been written in very different time periods and use separate styles, there
are two themes which link both stories and convey a very similar message. Strict societal roles and the
treatment of women in patriarchal societies are prevalent ideas in both Shakespeare s play and Atwood
s novel. These themes are approached and dealt with differently in each work, but ultimately convey
the same meaning. There are some aspects of humanity that are ... Show more content on

The Handmaid s Tale and The Taming of the Shrew offer very different views on the matter: Atwood
gives a more sympathetic and feminist outlook, whereas Shakespeare tends to lean towards misogyny.
In The Handmaid s Tale, the Gileadean government oppressesed the women of the country as the new
theocracy gains more power. Women are deprived of the right to vote, to have jobs, to hold money or
property, to have an education and even the right to read. Initially there is an angry outburst at this,
and the women fight to get their freedom back, but as the totalitarian state grows stronger, they find
that there is less and less that they are able to do about their predicament. Eventually, women are
reduced to being considered a national resource, valued for their wombs and ability to reproduce, and
seen as potential mothers rather than individuals. Rebellious behaviour is punished by death or
banishment to work in camps; cleaning up toxic waste, so the oppressed women are limited to the
smallest acts of rebellion, such as whispering among themselves when they are supposed to be silent.
The Taming of the Shrew was written during the Elizabethan Era in England, so most of the attitudes
towards women in the play are reflective of the established beliefs

Women s Role In Ancient Greek Society
The Role of Women in Ancient Greek Society Throughout history, the role of women has been
minimal. Many of them were seen as objects, and the Greek woman was no different. Women in
ancient Greece basically had no rights. A female s whole life was centered on her children, husband,
and family. The ancient Greek woman was of a lower social status than the males. Greek women
played a demeaning role in Greek society and were only seen as wives, mothers, and housekeepers.
Even in ancient Greece, marriage was a spiritual and legal ceremony. The spiritual and legal ceremony
was really considered to be a transaction among two men. The ancient Greek woman had no say in
who she could marry. The woman was given away by her father to her husband. ... Show more content

This is shown in the play Oedipus the King. Oedipus tells Iocaste that Creon is plotting against him.
He also states that none of the other men deserves his confidence as much as she does. (171 184)
Women did not own much, but if she did, the property always remained separate from her husband s.
The husband served as head of the household and controlled all of the property while he was alive.
When the husband died, all inheritance was given to the children. A woman could not receive an
inheritance from her husband, but she could receive things from her brother. In fact, the only way a
woman could possess anything was if she divorced her husband without bearing any children.
Becoming a mother was one of the most important roles for women in ancient Greece. It was
extremely important for women to produce male children. When a man s wife did not have a male, it
was seen as shameful. Giving birth to a girl was seen as an embarrassment and disgrace. After giving
birth to a daughter, a mother would turn her head away from her husband in shame (Demand, p. 6).
Daughters could not carry on their families name so; men often did not count them as their children. If
a man s wife was unable to produce a male child, the daughters would then be responsible for
producing one. Bearing a male child made the idea of being a mother very

Working On A Group Is Not An Easy Thing Working
When working on a group you have to be a listener and a leader at the same time, you have to make
sure you help your group. Being in a group is not an easy thing working with people can be
challenging specially when they work at a different rhythm or even a different way, I ve had different
experiences working in groups but personally I can agree that this group was a perfect fit for me, at
the beginning it was very difficult due to the fact that several of our classmates withdraw the class and
did not inform us before they did, this made us change our approach but at the end we ended up
working it out and making it work. The work we did as a group was easy we decided to meet at the
speech lab and brainstorm the best way of presenting our subject; we decided on assign each of the
group members their task and what was going to be the role they would be playing in the group, the
order they would present and with was the subject they were going to elaborate in. I was in charge of
explaining what is a nonverbal message and how important it is, so I made sure of researching
everything I could not only by reading the chapter, but also by doing some outside research witch gave
me a lot of information and understanding of this subject.
After we all had the area we would concentrate in we decided to meet up again and practice what we
had so far and star with the power point and decide on another visual aid, we decided on doing a clip
on the series lie to me but at the end we could

In The Time Of The Butterflies Chapter Summary
Even though the acts of the Mirabal sisters are based on true events, Julia Alvarez gives a fictional
voice to capture and remember the spirit of their memory and carry out their legacy. Alvarez argues a
novel is not, after all, a historical document, but a way to travel through the human heart (Alvarez
324). Alvarez successfully does this in her historical fiction novel, In the Time of the Butterflies, by
enticing her readers and transporting them as if they were a part of the Mirabal family. Historical
fiction is defined as the genre of literature that takes place in the past and are characterized by an
imaginative reconstruction of historical events. Alvarez does explain that the Mirabals [are her]
creation, made up... [however, she] researched the facts of the regime, and events pertaining to ...

However, fiction is essential to the culture that it is portrayed in. It can show and educate the reader
the daily life or hardships of one culture, allowing them to understand in a greater sense. Fiction also
gives us the opportunity to experience the possibility of other choices without making those choices,
especially as readers we are immersed in the political protests that the girls go through and partake.
Alvarez did not write the book merely to entertain her readers, but to help readers learn about
themselves and educate them about the Trujillo regime and keep the spirit of the Mirabal sisters alive.
Without a novel like this, the world may never know how important the sisters were. They died as true
heroes, and Alvarez believes that their story needs to be spread. The true spirit of the Mirabal sisters is
their legacy. They are portrayed in a positive light because they did help change the future that we live
in today, and if we share important history and stories, such as the Mirabal sisters, we are able to live
vicariously through them and honor their selfless

Appendectomy Essay
APPENDECTOMY
An appendicectomy (or appendectomy) is the surgical removal of the vermiform appendix. This
procedure is normally performed as an emergency procedure, when the patient is suffering from acute
appendicitis. In the absence of surgical facilities, intravenous antibiotics are used to delay or avoid the
onset of sepsis; it is now recognized that many cases will resolve when treated non operatively. In
some cases the appendicitis resolves completely; more often, an inflammatory mass forms around the
appendix. This is a relative contraindication to surgery.
APPENDICITIS
Appendicitis is inflammation of the appendix. It is thought that appendicitis begins when the opening
from the appendix into the cecum becomes blocked. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultrasound can identify an enlarged appendix or an abscess. Nevertheless, during appendicitis, the
appendix can be seen in only 50% of patients. Therefore, not seeing the appendix during an ultrasound
does not exclude appendicitis. Ultrasound also is helpful in women because it can exclude the
presence of conditions involving the ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus that can mimic appendicitis.
Barium Enema
A barium enema is an x ray test where liquid barium is inserted into the colon from the anus to fill the
colon. This test can, at times, show an impression on the colon in the area of the appendix where the
inflammation from the adjacent inflammation impinges on the colon. Barium enema also can exclude
other intestinal problems that mimic appendicitis, for example Crohn s disease.
CT Scan
In patients who are not pregnant, a CT Scan of the area of the appendix is useful in diagnosing
appendicitis and peri appendiceal abscesses as well as in excluding other diseases inside the abdomen
and pelvis that can mimic appendicitis.
ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY
The appendix (or vermiform appendix; also cecal (or caecal) appendix; also vermix) is a blind ended
tube connected to the cecum (or caecum), from which it develops embryologically. The cecum is a
pouchlike structure of the colon. The appendix is located near the junction of the small intestine and
the large intestine.
The term vermiform comes from Latin and means worm shaped .

My Plan Of Attack At Virgin
Sometimes it feels like you have to be a sociopath in order to win or be promoted. I have to say that I
really did feel like I was constantly juggling the way I was perceived at all times and I still am. My
biggest tool was Laura. Laura was the one who took me under her wing and gave me advice on how to
grow and become the leader I needed to be in order to be a supervisor.
I began to ask all the leaders the same questions in different scenarios so it didn t seem weird that I
asked them all the same questions. The cool part of this was that I was able to collect all the various
perspectives on the same type of scenario and sort of compare notes. I figured out that the managers
who are salary are constantly feeling overworked and need a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

She asked me what my goals were and how I planned to accomplish them etc.....She then began to ask
me various questions about how I would feel about becoming a supervisor and what I thought the
other teammates would think. I believed that I answered all of the questions well.
A week later the job position was posted on in the teammate lounge. There were quite a few people
interested in the position. The talk began spreading throughout the hotel. So I did what any good
candidate would do and asked people questions. A lot of questions. This allowed me to really sort out
who the real contenders were and how I could be better. I realized the people who were very forward
and loud about wanting the position lost track of how they were being perceived by their superiors.
Most of them didn t even get selected for the first round of interviews. This means being confident yet
reserved was a huge factor they were looking for.
Two weeks later a huge hole was blown into my plan of attack. Emina my manager who seemed to be
my second closest ally called me as I was walking home one day. She said, Devric, I m going to tell
you something that only a few people know the moment . In my head, I was thinking the best and the
worst. Hurray, Devric we have decided to just give you the supervisor position or unfortunately Devric
we are going to have to let you go. My heart started pounding. Emina says, Devric, They fired Laura.
My thoughts were oh fuck my

The Death Penalty Was Furman V. Georgia Essay
As society has evolved, the way the death penalty has been implemented has also evolved sometimes
against the words of our Constitution. One of the more influential cases that transformed how people
view the death penalty was Furman v. Georgia. This case set up a guide for limited sentencing
discretion; this meant that sentencing for the death penalty would become standardized. Essentially in
extreme cases, every criminal death qualified would be sent to death row and eventually executed.
After disputes after Furman, cases like Woodson v. North Carolina insisted on individualized
discretion when discussing the death penalty. Those in favor of Woodson believed that character ad
record of an individual must be accounted especially when discussing life or death (Woodson 238). In
Walton v. Arizona, Justice Scalia and Justice Blackburn dispute over the rationality of limited
discretion v individualized discretion. Although each presents his case differently, both agree about the
tension between the Furman s promotion for limited discretion and Woodson s idea of individualized
sentencing discretion. In accordance with the Constitution, both Furman v. Georgia and Woodson v.
North Carolina violated the Eighth Amendment in their respective ways but the current system (in
terms of capital punishment provides a loose balance that ensures both the uniqueness of human
beings as well as limits arbitrariness.
Pre Furman v. Georgia, flaws within capital punishment gave way to

The Day Of National Parks
The outdoors, there s something about being outside and the beauty of the forest, glaciers, oceans, and
vast wilderness that draws humanity to it. Could it be getting back to our natural state or just trying to
connect with God s creation? Either way Millions of people travel to National Parks a year: 3 million
traveled to yellowstone alone in 2015 (Visser). But sadly not all of them have favorable trips; in 2007
the National Park Service reported 3,593 search and rescue missions or SAR missions (National
Parks). The average budget for SAR missions is $200,000 and each year that is exceeded. The solution
is charge the bill of the mission to the one in need of being rescued. Now this would not apply in
every case, there are times no matter how hard you prepared or how careful you were trouble still
comes your way. For these missions you won t be billed, but if you go past marked barriers, not
properly equipped, or have been medically prescribed not to do vigouroux exercise then you will be
billed for the cost of your rescue.
On Grouse Mountain in British Columbia a group of skiers and snowboarders had to be guided out of
an avalanche prone area with a helicopter, because after high avalanche warnings in the area and a
strict verbal by ski patrol not to cross the boundary they decided to anyway (Sharples). These men
were charged for everything that it cost to ensure their safe arrival. I m proposing that we do the
samething here in America. There would have to be stipulations

  • 2. Virtual Organization Strategy Virtual Organization Strategy Learning Team Names FIN/370 Date Instructor Name Virtual Organization Strategy Berry s Bug Blasters is a privately held business and wants to expand its operations. The business is considering three options for moving forward with the expansion plan. The first option is going public with an IPO, or Initial Public Offering. The second option is to acquire another similar business within the industry, and finally the third option is merging with another organization. All three of these options ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The opportunities offered to public companies include market exposure, greater access to capital funds, and appeal to the most desirable job seekers and investors. Multiple finance opportunities however may be the greatest benefit of an IPO. Because Berry s is a growing company seeking expansion, becoming a public company with an initial public offering could prove to be an advantageous option. As with IPOs, there are strengths, and weaknesses associated with acquisitions. Obviously, those strengths and weaknesses must be evaluated thoroughly prior to making the decision to seek an acquisition. Opportunities, although mainly positive, are also essential considerations. The opportunities associated with acquisitions are readily apparent and correspond with the strengths of this option for expansion. Acquisitions provide important opportunities for increased shareholder value, brand recognition, and profitability, in addition to certain tax benefits. A merger can reveal numerous opportunities for a smaller company seeking to increase sales without depleting resources or cash flow. If for example, Berry s has established a strong customer loyalty and presence in a particular locale, but has not been successful in expanding to others, a merger with a competitor could easily lead to that opportunity. This broadening of horizons is commonly known in the business world as a horizontal merger. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Individual Mandate In Healthcare The individual mandate was established under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), and works together with other ACA provisions to create a platform for affordable insurance for all (especially the poor and sick). The individual mandate requires most individuals to maintain minimum essential coverage for themselves and their dependents. Minimum essential coverage is listed in Section 5000A of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) along with its regulations. Comprehensive coverage is considered to be the minimum essential coverage, which includes public coverage such as Medicaid and Medicare, and private insurance such as individual insurance, employer sponsored insurance, and non group insurance. • 4. “Transactional vs. Relationship Selling” 1. Introduction: The account relationship strategy a company chooses to follow represents the type of relationship, it is going to develop towards its customers. Within the account relationship strategy, there are three different kinds in which the relationship of you and your customer can be differentiated: The transactional relationship, consultative relationship and enterprise relationship. In my following term paper I would like to show you what the key elements of every relationship is and for further explanation examples will document every relationship. At the end a real life example will show an industry which is right now making a shift from transactional relationship selling to a consultative approach. 2. Main Body 2.1. ... To achieve this goal of being a cost leader, a strict policy towards the number of employees is of essential importance. So service personnel at Aldi markets isn t there to advise customers, because they think their product portfolio is more or less self explanatory. Their function is more to backfill stock at the market. They can give advise where certain products can be found but real customer consulting does not take place. The relationship Aldi tries to build to its customers is not through outstanding service performance, price and quality are the aspects which count for Aldi and most of their customers. As already mentioned in the explanation of a transactional relationship, Aldi is just operating at the B2C market, where a transactional relationship to your customers is wide spread. 2.2. Consultative relationship 2.2.1. Definition and explanation The main difference here to a transactional relationship is the effort which is done by supplier. If the demand of the customer is there, here a more detailed plan or more personalized concept can be evaluated. This offer can create additional value and provides further benefits, next to the product itself. The disadvantage of this type of relationship is the additional effort which has to be done by the salesperson or the whole ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Each person is shaped rapidly throughout their daily lives from the things and people of their surroundings. There are many things that can help shape someone s perspective, though culture is a relatively big factor in shaping the way he/she views the world and the people within because it is the platform of which family, opinions, and and people in your everyday life shape your perspective. • 6. Essay on The Diving Bell and the Butterfly The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is written from the point of view of Jean Dominique Bauby, a French journalist and former editor in chief of ELLE magazine, in Paris. Bauby suffered a severe stroke on December 8, 2005, leaving him with a rare condition known as locked in syndrome, in which the brain continues to function normally, but the body is completely paralyzed. Jean Do retained some movement in his head and left eye, and wrote his memoir through a tedious method of blinking. An interlocutor would read aloud a special alphabet, ordered by their frequency of use in French language, and Bauby would blink whenever the person reached the correct letter (Wikipedia). Through this method, the reader is offered a glimpse into the mind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jean goes on to share his experiences at the hospital, explaining his life on a day to day basis. He talks about his different doctors and therapists, the tortures that come with an inability to move, and what it s like to be bathed, dressed, and fed. His right eye is eventually sewn up, as the eyelid no longer functioned. Bauby describes the communication code he sets up with his speech therapist, Sandrine, in which she recites the alphabet and he blinks when she calls the right letter. Friends and family sometimes visit Jean Do. He recounts a day he spent with his children and their mother, on the beach, for father s day, among other visits. Bauby also reminisce about his life before the stroke, recalling his early days as a journalist, shaving his father, a pilgrimage he once took with his lover, and, finally, the day of his stroke. At the end of the book, Bauby sees the contents of a half open purse on a nearby table, a hotel room key, a metro ticket, and a hundred franc note, and realizes that these ordinary objects have become alien to him: remnants of a way of life he has become a stranger to. This forces Bauby to realize that he is beginning a new life, and must acknowledge this in order to move ahead. This differs from the beginning of the book, in which he only displays a longing for life to return to how it was before the stroke. Before delving into my observations on J I want to first describe what his second language acquisition stage is. Based on what I observed from his communication in class and his writing I have concluded that he is stage three: the speech emergence stage. He can communicate in simple sentences, but when he communicates in longer and complex sentences he makes grammatical mistakes. Although he has been in the country for four years I feel his language development has been hindered by being pushed along in school, never getting enough one on one instruction, and not enough ELL support in terms of a teacher pulling him aside to help more often. In a more intense supportive environment I think he would already be in stage four. Reed (2003) informs readers that having an understanding of ELL students will dramatically improve the ability to understand and teach an ELL student more. The beginning of war started with similar technology and tactics in the 19th century, but by the end of the war technology along with tactics will change extensively. We often take our mental health for granted, but the novel Life of Pi as well as the movie Shutter Island encourage us to look deeper within ourselves and to truly be grateful for the fact that we most of us are mentally stable. That is just one idea that these two works explore. What are they exactly about though? Life of Pi, a novel by Yann Martel published in 2001, is about a sixteen year old Indian boy named Piscine Molitor Patel who experienced a horrendous shipwreck. It was therefore with this quotation that readers discovered that Pi s alter ego was Richard Parker. In Shutter Island, Andrew also created an alter ego for himself. His alter ego was a man named Edward Daniels, which was an anagram for Andrew Laeddis. As with Life of Pi, this alter ego was not revealed to the viewers of the film until the end when Andrew faced Dr. Cawley in the lighthouse. Dr. Cawley said, The names have the same letters. Edward Daniels has exactly the same thirteen letters as Andrew Laeddis, the same as Rachel Solando and Dolores Chanal. The names are anagrams for each other. In that moment, it became evident that Andrew had created an alter ego for himself. The next similarity between the two works in relation to alter ego is the fact that the main characters both used their alter egos to distance themselves from the acts they committed. In Life of Pi, Pi used his alter ego to cover up his killing of the cook during the journey on the lifeboat. Pi did this because he could not believe that he allowed himself to stoop down to such low levels in order to kill a man. He expressed this when he said (referring to the cook), He was such an evil man. Worse still, he met evil in me selfishness, anger, ruthlessness. I must live with that (Martel 345). In fact, his tactical ability was like an all knowing God (Blue, Chapter 338) because he found all the dead angles in the battle and launched a surprise attack against his opponents. • 18. Analysis Of The Kings Of Summer Two components that have an immense impact on the quality and caliber of a film are the editing and sound found within the film. These two aspects alone can make or break a film. In the film The Kings of Summer, directed by Jordan Vogt Roberts, these two elements collaborate to highlight certain emotions and key moments in the film s plot. Some of the sub elements of these two components that can easily be identified within the film include the flashforward, the flashback, both nondiegetic and diegetic sound, semi diegetic sound, graphic matching and voice offs. Within the film The Kings Of Summer, editing and sound are methodically and tactfully utilized in order to produce a film that is both entertaining and meaningful for the audience. Two of the most prominent aspects of editing that can be identified within this film are the flashforward and the flashback. At the commencement of the film, a flashforward is employed. It shows drums being played in a forest by the three characters that were yet to be introduced to the audience. Then the scene quickly cuts to the main character, Joe, in the shower at his house. This flashforward is used in order to provide the audience with an idea of what is to come in the not so distant future of the film. Another flashforward is utilized when Joe, Patrick, and Biaggio are living in the forest. This flashforward shows Joe and the female lead, Kelly, in the woods. It portrays the two in a romantic light, and includes a confession from Kelly that she wants to stay and live in the forest with Joe. This flashforward, unlike the previous example, does not come true. However, it is used to portray the deep emotions of Joe, and his longing for female companionship. These emotions become relevant when Kelly falls for Joe s friend Patrick instead of him. During the conclusion of the film, a flashback is employed so the audience can relive the previous events that occurred within the film. When Biaggio is in the hospital, a flashback reminds the audience of when Joe and Patrick first entered the forest, at the onset of their adventure. This flashback brings the audience back to a happier and lighter point in the story line. In the film The Kings of Summer, flashfowards and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. leadership theories and analysis Essay The Renaissance was a rebirth of cultural awareness and learning that took place during 1400 1500. Art became a branch of learning during the Renaissance. It was a period of time when art was very important. Artists had finally recaptured the amazing detail and realism that the Greeks and Romans perfected. Artists broke boundaries with new exciting mediums and bright colors. Filippo Brunelleschi permitted artists to decide the proportional size of a figure by inventing the vanishing point perspective. This made it possible to put everything into perfect proportion. • 20. The Australian Emissions Trading Scheme Abstract The Australian emissions trading scheme (ETS) has been the hope of climate policy makers and environmental scientists alike to reduce the national carbon footprint. Replacing the implemented carbon tax law, the Australian ETS is a political issue due to the economic and social problems it entails. With the carbon tax being repealed recently by the current government, the comparison to the unpopular European Union ETS further emphasizes on its setbacks that it poses (Wood, 2010; Adams, 2014; Watkins, 2014). Hence a move to the ETS will be unlikely in the future. Introduction: The Australian Carbon Footprint Australia has the highest greenhouse emissions per capita as of 2009 (Figure 1). Figure 1: Comparison of greenhouse gas emissions per capita (UNSD, 2009; USDE, 2009) The Carbon Tax Law and Emissions Trading Scheme Up to 2013, successive Australian governments have lobbied for an emissions trading scheme (ETS) to curb national emissions. One such legislative measure is the carbon tax law passed in Parliament in July 2012 through Acts such as the Clean Energy Act. Using a fixed taxation price of $A23 per tonne which will increase by 2.5% per annum, the carbon tax law applies to the company operations and facilities of Australia s top 500 polluters which exceed the annual direct emissions limit (Foran, 2011; Guglyuvatyy, 2012). These high polluting industries range from electrical power plants to the mining sector. The carbon tax law will subsequently transit into a cap and trade ETS managed by the Climate Change Authority in 2015. Also known as the Carbon Pricing Mechanism, this statutory institution will supervise carbon prices on an auction market, making the prices of greenhouse gases flexible (Guglyuvatyy, 2012; Adams, 2014). The aim of the ETS is to create economic incentives to entice industries to take environmentally friendly measures without negatively affecting the national job market and economic growth (AuGov, 2012; Adams, 2014). At that point, the Australian government also projected future aims of linking the national ETS with that of the European Union (AuGov, 2012; Watkins, 2014). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Sexual Love And The Freedom And Happiness Shared By Two... The Song portrays the virtue of sexual love and the freedom and happiness shared by two lovers. The Song speaks of a sexual love between man and woman who stands equally before each other in the privacy of their intimacy with no consciousness of the hierarchies of their public world. Equal standing in its most encompassing meaning neither one is superior nor inferior, but equally ready to initiate and invite, equally desiring and eager to please and be pleased, both transparent about fantasies and pleasures received, equally vocal to endear and arouse, same sense of wholeness and brokenness, of shamelessness and abandon. Passion is matched with passion; longings are returned with the same intensity no holding back and no concern for anything except to ravish each other, both take pleasure, and absorbed in each other in their own Eden. Thus, sex is honorable, pleasurable, and paradisal. The Song is devoid of any patriarchal mindset; the woman exhibits a consciousness of being highly valued. If she s in a patriarchal society, then she has learned to be counter cultural, just as the Hebrew Bible is counter cultural with ANE and other ancient literature. She neither sees herself oppressed nor in a subordinate position. She values her sensuality and sexuality and sees herself as good as anyone else, even if her patriarchal world refuses to offer equal opportunity for her kind. There is nothing in our realm of awareness that has not been labelled or ranked. These practices originated from the basic human conditioning for survival and understanding. However, they soon developed into numerous attitudes, behaviors, judgments and systems of policies that have constrained and segregated our population (Kadi). Heeding the ominous effects of these systems of classification, John Updike utilizes his short story A P , as a reflector of our society. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This internalized classism is commonly associated with feelings of inadequacy towards upper class people, contempt towards one s family, as well as feelings of superiority and blame towards others considered even lower in class than themselves (Action, Class). Updike showcases these patterns in Sammy s comparison between Queenie and his own family: All of a sudden I slid right down her voice into her living room. Her father and the other men were standing around in ice cream coats and bow ties and the women were in sandals picking up herring snacks on toothpicks off a big plate and they were all holding drinks the color of water with olives and sprigs of mint in them. • 28. Analysis Of Charles Finney s The Reality Of Free Will Lane describes Charles Finney as one of the early Evangelicals. Born in 1792, he began preaching and later holding unconventional revivals in 1824. Finney stressed the reality of free will, meaning that man has a choice in the matters of sin. God tells us what is right and threatens us with sanctions, but the choice is ours (pp. 253 254). The weakness of Evangelical approach, according to Lane, is that the evangelist tries to bring about an instantaneous decision of the will rather than a radical change of character which in one sense is a life long process. Obviously, Lane s insistence that Finney s system holds that the will is totally unconditioned and random seems to show an opinion that reveals a creeping of moral relativism. Lane insists that Finney held morality to be either/or acts of will, this in opposition the Lane s concept that morality is a cultivation of moral character (p. 254). Finney is also noted by Lane as not believing in the concept of original sin due to his stand on infants not having a sinful nature. However, Finney acknowledges that as the infant develops reaching an age of moral accountability sin is a certainty. In this, I think the weakness Lane points out in Evangelicals is, of itself, weak. Augustine, an early church father in 354, viewed and argued that humans can live sinless lives through their natural endowments and are responsible to do so. In this book, Herrigel describes many aspects of how archery is, in fact, not a sport, but an art form, and is very spiritual to those in the east. The process he describes shows how he overcame his initial inhibitions and began to look toward new ways of seeing and understanding. In the beginning of the book Herrigel tells us that he is writing about a ritual and religious practice, whose aim consists in hitting a spiritual goal, so that fundamentally the marksman aims at himself and may even succeed in hitting himself. This is the same underlying concept that Zen and Buddhism rely on. If one focuses too much on meditation then he will never actually clear your head and reach the blissful goal of enlightenment. The more obstinately you try to learn how to shoot the arrow for the sake of hitting the goal, the less you will succeed in the one and the further the other will recede. (Herrigel p. 31) So, for Herrigel to learn the art of archery he must cease to strive towards hitting the target and stop grasping at his goal. Instead he must focus only on the moment and let the goal come to him. As Herrigel spent more time with his master he learned more and more about the Zen ways of thinking. Throughout his time there, his master taught him time after time that it is important to be in the moment when the moment is happening. To reach your goal you must allow yourself to become part of it and not focus on one individual aspect. • 40. Women s Role In Ancient Greek Society The Role of Women in Ancient Greek Society Throughout history, the role of women has been minimal. Many of them were seen as objects, and the Greek woman was no different. Women in ancient Greece basically had no rights. A female s whole life was centered on her children, husband, and family. The ancient Greek woman was of a lower social status than the males. Greek women played a demeaning role in Greek society and were only seen as wives, mothers, and housekeepers. Even in ancient Greece, marriage was a spiritual and legal ceremony. The spiritual and legal ceremony was really considered to be a transaction among two men. The ancient Greek woman had no say in who she could marry. The woman was given away by her father to her husband. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The husband served as head of the household and controlled all of the property while he was alive. When the husband died, all inheritance was given to the children. A woman could not receive an inheritance from her husband, but she could receive things from her brother. In fact, the only way a woman could possess anything was if she divorced her husband without bearing any children. Becoming a mother was one of the most important roles for women in ancient Greece. It was extremely important for women to produce male children. When a man s wife did not have a male, it was seen as shameful. Giving birth to a girl was seen as an embarrassment and disgrace. After giving birth to a daughter, a mother would turn her head away from her husband in shame (Demand, p. 6). Daughters could not carry on their families name so; men often did not count them as their children. • 41. Working On A Group Is Not An Easy Thing Working When working on a group you have to be a listener and a leader at the same time, you have to make sure you help your group. Being in a group is not an easy thing working with people can be challenging specially when they work at a different rhythm or even a different way, I ve had different experiences working in groups but personally I can agree that this group was a perfect fit for me, at the beginning it was very difficult due to the fact that several of our classmates withdraw the class and did not inform us before they did, this made us change our approach but at the end we ended up working it out and making it work. The work we did as a group was easy we decided to meet at the speech lab and brainstorm the best way of presenting our subject; we decided on assign each of the group members their task and what was going to be the role they would be playing in the group, the order they would present and with was the subject they were going to elaborate in. I was in charge of explaining what is a nonverbal message and how important it is, so I made sure of researching everything I could not only by reading the chapter, but also by doing some outside research witch gave me a lot of information and understanding of this subject. After we all had the area we would concentrate in we decided to meet up again and practice what we had so far and star with the power point and decide on another visual aid, we decided on doing a clip on the series lie to me but at the end we could ... • 42. In The Time Of The Butterflies Chapter Summary Even though the acts of the Mirabal sisters are based on true events, Julia Alvarez gives a fictional voice to capture and remember the spirit of their memory and carry out their legacy. Alvarez argues a novel is not, after all, a historical document, but a way to travel through the human heart (Alvarez 324). Alvarez successfully does this in her historical fiction novel, In the Time of the Butterflies, by enticing her readers and transporting them as if they were a part of the Mirabal family. Historical fiction is defined as the genre of literature that takes place in the past and are characterized by an imaginative reconstruction of historical events. However, fiction is essential to the culture that it is portrayed in. It can show and educate the reader the daily life or hardships of one culture, allowing them to understand in a greater sense. Fiction also gives us the opportunity to experience the possibility of other choices without making those choices, especially as readers we are immersed in the political protests that the girls go through and partake. Alvarez did not write the book merely to entertain her readers, but to help readers learn about themselves and educate them about the Trujillo regime and keep the spirit of the Mirabal sisters alive. Without a novel like this, the world may never know how important the sisters were. They died as true heroes, and Alvarez believes that their story needs to be spread. The true spirit of the Mirabal sisters is their legacy. They are portrayed in a positive light because they did help change the future that we live in today, and if we share important history and stories, such as the Mirabal sisters, we are able to live vicariously through them and honor their selfless ... • 43. Appendectomy Essay APPENDECTOMY An appendicectomy (or appendectomy) is the surgical removal of the vermiform appendix. This procedure is normally performed as an emergency procedure, when the patient is suffering from acute appendicitis. In the absence of surgical facilities, intravenous antibiotics are used to delay or avoid the onset of sepsis; it is now recognized that many cases will resolve when treated non operatively. In some cases the appendicitis resolves completely; more often, an inflammatory mass forms around the appendix. This is a relative contraindication to surgery. APPENDICITIS Appendicitis is inflammation of the appendix. It is thought that appendicitis begins when the opening from the appendix into the cecum becomes blocked. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ultrasound can identify an enlarged appendix or an abscess. Nevertheless, during appendicitis, the appendix can be seen in only 50% of patients. Therefore, not seeing the appendix during an ultrasound does not exclude appendicitis. Ultrasound also is helpful in women because it can exclude the presence of conditions involving the ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus that can mimic appendicitis. Barium Enema A barium enema is an x ray test where liquid barium is inserted into the colon from the anus to fill the colon. This test can, at times, show an impression on the colon in the area of the appendix where the inflammation from the adjacent inflammation impinges on the colon. Barium enema also can exclude other intestinal problems that mimic appendicitis, for example Crohn s disease. CT Scan In patients who are not pregnant, a CT Scan of the area of the appendix is useful in diagnosing appendicitis and peri appendiceal abscesses as well as in excluding other diseases inside the abdomen and pelvis that can mimic appendicitis. ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY The appendix (or vermiform appendix; also cecal (or caecal) appendix; also vermix) is a blind ended tube connected to the cecum (or caecum), from which it develops embryologically. • 44. My Plan Of Attack At Virgin Sometimes it feels like you have to be a sociopath in order to win or be promoted. I have to say that I really did feel like I was constantly juggling the way I was perceived at all times and I still am. My biggest tool was Laura. Laura was the one who took me under her wing and gave me advice on how to grow and become the leader I needed to be in order to be a supervisor. I began to ask all the leaders the same questions in different scenarios so it didn t seem weird that I asked them all the same questions. The cool part of this was that I was able to collect all the various perspectives on the same type of scenario and sort of compare notes. I figured out that the managers who are salary are constantly feeling overworked and need a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She asked me what my goals were and how I planned to accomplish them etc.....She then began to ask me various questions about how I would feel about becoming a supervisor and what I thought the other teammates would think. I believed that I answered all of the questions well. A week later the job position was posted on in the teammate lounge. There were quite a few people interested in the position. The talk began spreading throughout the hotel. So I did what any good candidate would do and asked people questions. A lot of questions. This allowed me to really sort out who the real contenders were and how I could be better. I realized the people who were very forward and loud about wanting the position lost track of how they were being perceived by their superiors. Most of them didn t even get selected for the first round of interviews. This means being confident yet reserved was a huge factor they were looking for. Two weeks later a huge hole was blown into my plan of attack. Emina my manager who seemed to be my second closest ally called me as I was walking home one day. She said, Devric, I m going to tell you something that only a few people know the moment . In my head, I was thinking the best and the worst. • 45. The Death Penalty Was Furman V. Georgia Essay As society has evolved, the way the death penalty has been implemented has also evolved sometimes against the words of our Constitution. One of the more influential cases that transformed how people view the death penalty was Furman v. Georgia. This case set up a guide for limited sentencing discretion; this meant that sentencing for the death penalty would become standardized. Essentially in extreme cases, every criminal death qualified would be sent to death row and eventually executed. After disputes after Furman, cases like Woodson v. North Carolina insisted on individualized discretion when discussing the death penalty. Those in favor of Woodson believed that character ad record of an individual must be accounted especially when discussing life or death (Woodson 238). In Walton v. Arizona, Justice Scalia and Justice Blackburn dispute over the rationality of limited discretion v individualized discretion. Although each presents his case differently, both agree about the tension between the Furman s promotion for limited discretion and Woodson s idea of individualized sentencing discretion. In accordance with the Constitution, both Furman v. Georgia and Woodson v. North Carolina violated the Eighth Amendment in their respective ways but the current system (in terms of capital punishment provides a loose balance that ensures both the uniqueness of human beings as well as limits arbitrariness. Pre Furman v. Georgia, flaws within capital punishment gave way to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Day Of National Parks The outdoors, there s something about being outside and the beauty of the forest, glaciers, oceans, and vast wilderness that draws humanity to it. Could it be getting back to our natural state or just trying to connect with God s creation? Either way Millions of people travel to National Parks a year: 3 million traveled to yellowstone alone in 2015 (Visser). But sadly not all of them have favorable trips; in 2007 the National Park Service reported 3,593 search and rescue missions or SAR missions (National Parks). The average budget for SAR missions is $200,000 and each year that is exceeded. The solution is charge the bill of the mission to the one in need of being rescued. Now this would not apply in every case, there are times no matter how hard you prepared or how careful you were trouble still comes your way. For these missions you won t be billed, but if you go past marked barriers, not properly equipped, or have been medically prescribed not to do vigouroux exercise then you will be billed for the cost of your rescue. On Grouse Mountain in British Columbia a group of skiers and snowboarders had to be guided out of an avalanche prone area with a helicopter, because after high avalanche warnings in the area and a strict verbal by ski patrol not to cross the boundary they decided to anyway (Sharples).
