DECOLORIZATION OF SOME TEXTILE DYES BY PLEUROTUS CITRINOPILEATUS
AND ASPERGILLUS NIGER IMMOBILIZED ON WHEAT STRAW Abstract: The potential of
wheat straw immobilized Aspergillus niger and Pleurotus citrinopileatus were studied for
biodegradation ability of different types of textile dyes. Non exposed and exposed tested
immobilized fungi to (1 KGy and 2 KGy) of gamma irradiation were used. The tested textile dyes
were Reactive red Bx, Direct Brown BN, Direct yellow 5G, disperse orange 2 RLS, Disperse
Violet 3 RS, Sulpher Black Br and Sulpher Brown SG. It was found that immobilized P.
citrinopileatus exposed to (2 KGy) had more efficiency for decolorization of direct brown and
direct yellow dyes. Decolorization percentage of immobilized P. citrinopileatus in Direct Brown
and Direct yellow reach to 95% and 90% respectively after 8 days at 28oC. Peroxidase activity
for (1 KGy) irradiated P. citrinopileatus is more than peroxidase activity of unirradiated P.
citrinopileatus. RAPD.PCR has been performed to know the effect of gamma rays on P.
citrinopileatus; RAPD profile shows change between unirradiated and irradiated Pleurotus
citrinopileatus. DNA polymorphism was studied for both irradiated P. citrinopileatus exposed to
1KGy and 2 KGy gamma rays. INTRODUCTION Dye containing effluents represent crucial
problem because of their high chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biological oxygen demand

Mascot Research Paper
Why is a school mascot important to students ? Mascots are found in schools, sports and
businesses and may date back a very long time. The word Mascot means A person, animal, or
object believed to bring good luck, especially one kept as the symbol of an organization to illustrate
a sports team. A mascotsymbolizes courage, strength, speed and leadership. A Mascot is any
person, animal, thought to bring luck, or anything used to represent a group with a common public
identity such as a school.
Professional sports team, society, military unit, or brand name. Mascot comes from the French
term Mascotte meaning lucky charm. It was first recorded in 1867 and popularized by the Opera
La Mascotte , performed in December 1880. It then

Industrial relations ideologies
Introduction A frame of reference is not a philosophical concept. It refers to one s worldview
and the evaluation or judgement of one s observations. One s frame of reference coincides with
one s behaviour and the consequences thereof. Therefore, a frame of reference is fixed but one
needs to be sensitive and accept individual differences in frames of reference. This paper aims to
address the frame of reference of Pick n Pay s chairman and joint managing director, Mr Raymond
Ackerman. The arguments presented in this paper are my own with a theoretical basis from the
work of Bluen (1987). My interpretation of Mr Ackerman s frame of reference will be presented in
relation to the organisation, conflict, collective bargaining and trade... Show more content on

This reiterates the notion of balance of power. Collective bargaining The ability for positions to
reach a consensus is reached through collective bargaining. Bluen (1987) infers that the pluralist
frame of reference does not seek to remove conflict but to manage it. Mr Ackerman
acknowledged the existence of conflict and tried to manage it by sending his negotiating team to
resolve the conflict and end the strike. Mr Ackerman has a pluralist view because he believes the
issue should have been resolved during negotiations. He even went as far as awarding greater
bargaining flexibility to the negotiating team. The mere fact that Mr Ackerman was so determined
to resolve the conflict though means of collective bargaining should eliminate the likelihood of a
unitary frame of reference. Collective bargaining, an equitable balance of power, and essentially
the aim to compromise confirm that Mr Ackerman holds a pluralist view on industrial relations. Mr
Ackerman fought to reach a consensus for personal and economic reasons. The breakthrough to
reach a consensus was achieved after he delivered his speech. He appealed to the opposing union
members by focusing on personal matters. This led to the agreement of a negotiation. Mr Ackerman
considered going up on his agreement and the union considered going down on theirs. No
suppression or unilateral decision making occurred. In

Psychological Factors Affecting Eyewitness Memory
Whenever a crime takes place, eyewitnesses who are present on the scene can help the police or
authorities when the crime is being investigated. However, eyewitness memory can be affected by
a series of factors.
One of the factors that can affect eyewitness memory is stress. Whenever a person witnesses a
violent crime, his response is almost always one that generates a stressful response to the stressor
imposed by the crime. This stressful response is the defensive response which is heavily studied by
psychophysiologists (e.g., Klorman, Wiesenfeld Weissberg, 1977). This defensive reaction is the
physiological response (increased blood pressure, muscle tone and acceleration in heart rate)
resulting when attention control is highly dominant (Tucker and Williamson, 1984). The activation
mode, which is one of the two neural control systems that regulates a ... Show more content on

These are: (1) a bias against stimulus change, (2) a tonic readiness for action, and (3) processing
under tight attention controls. Some of the tasks that elicit the dominance of activation mode
include activities which increase cognitive and/or somatic anxiety such as vigilance, escape,
avoidance or pressure tasks (Deffenbacher, 1994). When assessing the effectiveness of a condition
of heightened stress, it should be compared with another condition that is demonstrably lower in
stress (or even free from stress), where the arousal mode of attention control is predominant
(Tucker and Williamson, 1984). When the activation mode is dominant, there is a notable
deceleration of heart rate and lowered blood pressure (Lacey and Laceym 1974). Deffenbacher
(1994) concluded that if a task elicits the arousal mode of attention control, the memory will be
enhanced for the most important and informative aspect of the

ANZAC Day Essay
Each year, ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) day is celebrated to pay tribute
to the troops who landed at Gallipoli with the intent to capture the peninsula on 25 April 1915.
(Cama, 2015) Soon after its official naming in 1916, ANZAC came to refer to any and all
Australians and New Zealanders who took part in World War I
, and the day has become a time for
reflection, as well as a symbol of mateship, sacrifice and nationalism. The Gallipoli campaignwas
the first major military action shared by Australians and New Zealanders, and it was a campaign
that lasted eight months, with more than 8 000 Australians having been killed in action. Because
of this, it had lasting effects on the nation as a whole, hence why it is commemorated each year.
Those who had served in the campaign were also irrevocably changed by the experiences they d...

Trauma challenges an individual s sense of security, and may cause issues with trust, closeness,
and communication, aspects which can significantly change the way a person acts around others
(Muscari, 2012). Feelings of vulnerability and lack of safety that is caused by the source of the
trauma can make those affected by it act in a way uncharacteristic to them before the war, such as
becoming easy to anger, feeling shame or guilt. One may also argue that because of the negative
connotations linked with having a mental illness, soldiers who came home from the Gallipoli
campaign would refuse to be treated had they been given the option to.
However, Linden Jones (2014) found an appeal published in the London newspapers from Lord

The new Netflix series Jessica Jones, which becomes available on November 20, is a marvel legally
(it s produced by Marvel), creatively and, it must be said, surprisingly.
Having built an empire on which the marketing sun never sets, Marvel should now be facing
audience fatigue how many stories of superheroes can this world bear?
It s a question the screenwriter and producer Melissa Rosenberg clearly asked herself before
attempting to adapt the lead character of Alias, a comic book series written in 2001. In answer, she,
with help from her perfectly cast star Krysten Ritter, rewrote the definition of superhuman.
As a teenager, Jessica was exposed to radioactive chemicals in a car crash that killed her family and

5. Financial Management
Since many things involved while handling an airline company financial management takes a
large part of it. This is also the best way to enlarge and develop the company and the services it
offers. Net revenue is the measure of profitability, with all revenues minus all costs divided by
the total seats flown. For the fiscal year ended March 31, 2004, ancillary services accounted for
13.9% of Ryanair s total operating revenues, as compared to 13.1% of such revenues in the fiscal
year ended March 31, 2003. The increase reflected higher revenues from non flight scheduled
operations, car rentals, in flight sales and internet related services. These increases more than
offset the elimination of charter revenue from April 2003, when the Company re directed its
charter capacity to scheduled services. See Ancillary Services and Item 5. Operating and Financial

Doctor Strange Research Paper
Of all the superhero films released this year, Marvel s Doctor Strange is without a doubt the one
that I was most excited to see yes, ahead of Captain America: Civil War and Batman V

animated series such as Ultimate Spider Man, Avengers Assemble and he even had his own film!

Wireless Security
SECURITY OF WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS
Introduction
Wireless devices, like all technologies that provide external access to corporate networks, present
security challenges. With wireless standards and practices still rapidly evolving, it is important to
understand the strengths and limitations of available technologies in order to implement a secure
solution. Extending current security policies to encompass wireless devices requires an
understanding of the security features of both wireless devices and wireless networks.

Because of the great diversity of device capabilities, as well as their inherent security limitations,
MSD cannot provide security for data stored locally across every device. Instead, MSD provides
security for corporate data inside the firewall, by securing it against unauthorized access by
wireless devices.
In particular, MSD provides administrators with the ability to (Cohen, 1991):
В·Associate a specific, authorized user with each mobile device ( Trusted Devices ).
В·Specify what wireless networks can communicate with MSD ( Trusted IP Addresses ).
Trusted Devices
MSD s Trusted Devices feature enables administrators both to know what employee is authorized
to use each device, and to control the ability of each user or device to access Domino via MSD.
For example, if an employee loses his or her mobile device, an administrator can immediately
disable the use of that device with MSD, thus eliminating the risk that an impostor will access the
network.
In addition to Trusted Devices, MSD offers a related security feature called Dynamic Device/User
Mapping. It works like this: the first time a user successfully enters a valid Domino HTTP

Symbolism In John Steinbeck s The Grapes Of Wrath
The Grapes of Wrath is a novel written by John Steinbeck. This story explains how Tom Joads
and his family are forced to leave their home because a big business took over. This big business
caused families to change their whole life style, as well as starting a whole new life at a brand
new place. Steinbeck is trying to portray the disadvantage of a capitalist system through the
landowners who are taking advantage of small farmers and their family through the use of
symbolism. Steinbeck may have written this novel to show people what is going on at the time.
An example from the book is how it shows the consequences of a large business and the little
people that it effects. In the beginning of the book people are working on the land to survive.

Gospel Of Mark
Though the gospels of Mark, Matthew, and Luke are written differently based on time periods,
education, and narratives they contain many similar structures for the parables within. Written first
about forty years after the death of Christ, the Gospel of Mark was the only definite source for the
other two gospels. The Gospelof Mark is the shortest of the three at only sixteen chapters and is
narrated by the suffering and sacrificial death of JesusChrist. This apparent distinction between
gospel lengths led scholars to discover that Mark had not been the only source for the three other
gospels. Mark did not begin writing regarding the birth of Jesus Christ, but instead began when
Jesus was baptized at around thirty years old. However, both... Show more content on

That is without saying the other three are not completely identical to Mark s. They have
different understandings of certain words and phrases due to the advancement in language and
education. Differences also arise from the particular grasps of the text made from other
accounts. Because Matthew came after Mark there is some truth to his dependency on Mark.
Both include the emphasis on the small size of the mustard seed and the greatness of the shrub
and the idea that the birds who will nest in its branches will come from the air. Matthew and
Luke both incorporate the idea that the seed grows into a tree. Mark however, does not include
the idea of the shrub becoming a big grand tree. Luke never mentions the seed ever being a
shrub. This indicates that Matthew and Luke share a common source that is not Mark but (Q). If
Mark never mentioned anything about a tree there had to have been a second source for this
piece of information found in both Matthew and Luke. Luke disregards both Mark s and Matthew
s shrub idea and this idea of the tree signifies that both Luke and Matthew had a different source.
If Mark was the only source the parables would be much more identical leading to the discovery of

How to Handle Conflict
How to Handle Conflict by Andrew E. Schwartz
For many of us, every day is a struggle to avoid conflict. Yet avoidance is practically impossible
since the core characteristics, ideas and beliefs of each individual often conflict with our own.
Differences of opinion, competitive zeal, and misinterpretations, among other factors, can all
generate ill feelings between co workers within an organization. While we can t avoid conflict, we
can learn how to sidestep negative confrontations by becoming familiar with the types of conflicts
that most commonly arise in the work place and by learning how to resolve them.
As a manager, you must approach every conflict as an opportunity to improve employee
relationships, to lessen tension in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once you have identified a conflict, you must plan a course of action. Decide whether the conflict
is important enough to confront the conflicting parties. Make careful assessments of both the
conflict and the conflict s impact on the individuals and the organization. The said conflict could
just be an intense brainstorming session (which you must not short circuit).
If you deem confrontation is necessary, however, confront the parties separately. Confront them in a
neutral setting for a down to earth chat. If the conflict is in its early stages, resolution might be
easily and quickly achieved now.
During the confrontation, the cause of the conflict must be determined. After the confrontation, the
manager needs to reflect on the discussion and reach an objective solution for both parties to agree
upon. There will be times when the parties will not agree: in this case, use your own judgment.
Your primary objective is to find a solution. The manager dips into his resources and either reduces
or eliminates the conflict. To accomplish this you need to elicit enough information to understand
each employees member s opinion and to define the problem in mutual terms.
Once a solution is implemented, you must make regular checks on the parties to insure that their
agreements are being kept. If the process is successful, both parties need to be attempting to work
the situation out. If not, confrontation must

The Human Body, Crayfish, Earthworm, And Frog
Human Body, Crayfish, Earthworm, and Frog
All organisms have different digestive systems, respiratory systems, and circulatory systems. They
all need to digest their food, breathe, and circulate their blood, but how do they do it? You will
learn how the Human Body, Crayfish, Earthworm, and Frog do those things, and what the
similarities and differences are. First of all, the human body, crayfish, earthworm, and frog all have
many similarities and differenced about how their digestive system works. They all eat their food
through their mouths and the food then travels into the esophagus. The esophagus prepares the
food for further digestion. The food in the esophagus then travels in the frog, crayfish, and human
body s stomach. The earthworm doesn t have a stomach, but it has a crop that serves as a storage
stomach. Once the food is in the stomach, something different happens for each organism. The
food in the crayfish travels to the digestive gland which produces digestive substances and from
which the absorption of nutrients occurs. The same thing occurs in a frog and the human body,
but instead of a digestive gland it is moved into a small intestine. In the earthworm, the food goes
from the stomach to the gizzard, which uses stones that the earthworm eats to grind the food
completely. After it is moved into the digestive gland, small intestine, or gizzard, the food is
mostly digested. The earthworm and human body s food is now moved into the larger intestine,
where it absorbs water and any remaining nutrients. The frogs food is stored in something like a
large intestine, but it is called the gallbladder. The crayfish only has on intestine. After going
through all this, the undigested material leaves through the anus, or for a frog, it is called the
cloaca. Secondly, the human body, crayfish, earthworm, and frog also have many similarities and
differenced of how their respiratory system works. The crayfish respiratory system is the least
complex. Crayfish have gills, which are used to release carbon dioxide and to pick up oxygen, by
having a constant flow of blood. Frogs consist of nostrils and larynx, which opens up two lungs.
The walls of the lungs are filled with capillaries. Capillaries are

During an open campus lunch break student can either go home to get food, go to a restaurant or

it gives them a chance to have more responsibility and independence. It would also give students a

Analysis Of The November Cotton Flower By Jean Toomer
New beginnings are often disguised as painful endings... Lao Tzu
Whenever a scene of a movie approaches where a debacle unravels or innocent lives are
jeopardized, audiences grip their chairs in anticipation for help to come or for a hero to spring into
action and save lives. Similarly, in many circumstances, no matter how dire an event might seem,
there is always a beacon of hope amongst doleful situations. From every ending comes a new
beginning. The poem, November Cotton Flower , written by Jean Toomer, describes (the conditions
when slaves were under the Harlem Renaissance) the conditions in which slaves were under during
the Harlem Renaissance where there seems to be no prospect for a brighter future for the slaves in
the society. Throughout the poem, Toomer develops his theme of hope and desire for a brighter
future by exhausting literary devices such as metaphors, structure, and imagery.
The November Cotton Flower is a poem that not only depicts a late autumn setting where the
cotton season comes to an end, but also captures the agony and essence of slavery with the usage
of metaphors and similes. In the poem, a product of Harlem renaissance, Jean Toomer illustrates the
everyday life struggles of the African Americans by conveying his point of view through depleting
metaphors of the growing season. Taking place in a dismal landscape, the sonnet portrays the
cotton of being wilted due to horrible weather conditions. The cotton, the town s main cash crop, is

Similarities and differences between a manager, a business owner and an entrepreneur By Henry

Introduction
The public perception of entrepreneurs today is almost legendary. They seem to seamlessly start
up small businesses and make them grow and develop themselves almost overnight to big
successes. (Beaver, 2005) This essay will briefly cover the differences and similarities between
managers, business owners and entrepreneurs.

Therefore he often runs a lifestyle firm that is based on trade or craft which, however, will not
grow to any considerable size. The entrepreneur in turn is opportunistic, innovative, self confident
and acts proactive and decisive. He is highly self motivated by his vision and is therefore willing
to take even greater risks and can live with a high uncertainty. That is why the entrepreneur has a
growth firm and is pursuing growth and personal wealth. Lastly the manager is administrating, or
in other words managing, an entity that does not belong to him. His purpose is to build up the
organisation, by means that are similar to larger firms. (Burns, 2007) However there are some
exceptions from that generalization: An owner manager of course can have a growing business,
while an entrepreneur could manage a business he owns together with a business associate and
therefore has not complete control over the capital. (Burns, 2007) As Fraja (1996) suggests every
firm can be assigned to either one of the following types: Either it is an entrepreneurial firm, where
the owner manager or entrepreneur is in exclusive control, organizes production, borrows funds and
retains any residual returns from his work. Or it is a managerial firm, where the individual that has

Analysis Of The Movie The Get Down Where Shaolin...
The Get Down establishes inherent norms over time, creating rules that viewers internalize as
defining the show s storytelling strategies. For example, how each episode starts off with Zeke s
older self rapping a recap of the prior episode in a front of full audience at Madison Square
Garden in New York. Being defined as a musical comedy and gritty prestige drama , if there was
an episode in The Get Down where Shaolin Fantastic is not spinning turntables, Zeke is not
rapping, or Mylene isn t singing, it surprises the audience. Episodes that violate these norms
stand out by in violating fan expectations. Because this is a common for the first half of the first
season, viewers would expect music and drama in the second half. To understand The Get Down
in its narrative importance, viewers must be operationally familiar to the show s storytelling
norms and consider the importance of individuality inside a formal narrative system, positing
claims about how dysfunctional and dramatic it was to be a teenager of color in the capitalism
dominated society of New York. The Get Down tells its stories by combining formal techniques
of typical mainstream genre program, providing its dedicated young minded fans an additional
level of pleasure to be explored via the operational aesthetic. According to Jaden Smith, when
asked about the new Netflix show, he says: I mean I was totally in because I, I saw that this was

Analysis Of The Movie Gone Girl No One Should Criticize...
Rosamund Pike said, When the eyes are on you for the first time, you can t believe that people
aren t criticizing you, and after her fantastic acting performance as Amy Dunne in Gone Girl no
one should criticize her. Gone Girl is full of brilliant acting by many of the characters, but the
actress that stood out the most to me was Rosamund Pikeas Amy Dunne. The theme of the movie
is that everyone has to conform to some stereotype deemed okay by society in order to be liked.
We all have to put on a face and act to be someone we are not, and Rosamund Pike as Amy Dunne
portrays this beautifully. She is always acting, acting like the cool girl, acting like the victimbut
underneath it she is someone very different; she is not a female stereotype deemed fit by society
but a psychopath. She therefore creates a multidimensional character with many layers.
The first time the audience sees Amy Dunne she is playing the ultimate cool girl. Nick introduces
himself to her at a party and she creates an image of a sexy, mysterious, carefree girl. She has her
hair in an effortless ponytail with stray pieces cascading down her face, which reflects her
personality: laid back and sexy without trying to hard. When they first meet she is witty and
casual, performing the ultimate cool girl stereotype perfectly. As Nick and Amy s relationship
progresses the audience sees more and more of this; she literally embodies the perfect woman. But
when she becomes her real self, it shows

The passage of Prop 140 in 1990 had unintended consequences for the legislator. Not only did
Prop 140 implement term limits to increase turnover in the legislation, but it also reduced
funding. The reduction in funding led to the closure of bi partisan resources, such as the
Assembly Office of Research. The combination of legislators with less experience due to the
term limits, and lack of resources as result of the budget cuts, has dramatically weakened the
effectivity of the legislator. Consequently, the vacuum created by prop 140 has been filled by
lobbyist and the Governor. Recent studies illustrate a significant drop in declines made by the
legislator to the Governor s budget since the implementation of term limits (Kousser). Although
Proposition 2 does not directly fix the unintended consequences of Prop 140, it mitigates some of
the negative effects, bringing more balance between the two branches. Due to the shortcomings of
Proposition 58, the governor has much discretion in handling California debt, whereas Prop 2
calls for a mandatory 1.5% of the budget. Additionally, Proposition 2 mandates that scheduled
fund transfers can only be repealed if the Governor calls a state of emergency and gains approval
of the legislator. Requiring approval of the legislators not only empowers legislators attempting to
cope the debt crisis, but also prevents a

In The Time Of The Butterflies Chapter Summary
Even though the acts of the Mirabal sisters are based on true events, Julia Alvarez gives a fictional
voice to capture and remember the spirit of their memory and carry out their legacy. Alvarez argues
a novel is not, after all, a historical document, but a way to travel through the human heart (Alvarez
324). Alvarez successfully does this in her historical fictionnovel, In the Time of the Butterflies, by
enticing her readers and transporting them as if they were a part of the Mirabal family. Historical
fiction is defined as the genre of literature that takes place in the past and are characterized by an
imaginative reconstruction of historical events. Alvarez does explain that the Mirabals [are her]

reader the daily life or hardships of one culture, allowing them to understand in a greater sense.
Fiction also gives us the opportunity to experience the possibility of other choices without making
those choices, especially as readers we are immersed in the political protests that the girls go
through and partake. Alvarez did not write the book merely to entertain her readers, but to help
readers learn about themselves and educate them about the Trujillo regime and keep the spirit of the
Mirabal sisters alive. Without a novel like this, the world may never know how important the
sisters were. They died as true heroes, and Alvarez believes that their story needs to be spread.
The true spirit of the Mirabal sisters is their legacy. They are portrayed in a positive light because
they did help change the future that we live in today, and if we share important history and stories,
such as the Mirabal sisters, we are able to live vicariously through them and honor their selfless

Coercive Control Summary
A Review of Evan Stark s Coercive Control Doctor Evan Stark began writing his book Coercive
Control: How Men Entrap Women in Personal Life in 1995. Unquestionably so, completing this
book was an extensive undertaking. His entrenchment and immersion in the field of domestic
violence relating to social work, legal/policy and research, spans far greater than the twelve years
it took him to complete this book in 2007. Stark draws from, and acknowledges, colleagues as well

Stark explains that where women are already subordinate, wife beating is supported by the
patriarchy and is a function of specific factors. Under the law women were not equal citizens to
men, so women that were abused by their husbands or family members attributed it to bad luck.
Industrialization widened the work home divide. That is, work done in the home (women s
work) and wage labour (men s work) was separated by sex, and the latter was considered real
work. In tandem with political and legal gains, throughout the twentieth century the rate of
women participating in the work forced increased. As capitalism became the major form of
social organization, and women were liberated and emancipated from men and the private
sphere, violence was no longer sufficient to enforce dependence on individual men. Stark
explains that this was because the material and political basis for patriarchy was displaced, and
the illogical privilege based solely on sex was exposed. Sexual hierarchies began to collapse, and
men began using a range of behaviours to compliment their use of force. Although it was not
specifically written about before the 1970s, this became known as coercive control. Each household
governed by coercive control, each relationship, becomes patriarchy in miniature (p. 194). Stark

King s Gothic Naturalism
Naturalist writers of the early 20th century convey the notion that persons are fated to whatever
station in life their biological heredity and social environment prepare them for. Those who profess
to be proponents of the naturalist perspective see literature as a means to understand the nature of
man. Since the naturalist found in scientific discovery only a confirmation of humankind s
helplessness in the face of indifferent and inscrutable forces, their writings usually generate an
uninspiring idea of humanity s frailty (Strengell 11 12). While the deterministic worldview is
logical, it is difficult for many to resonate with powerless and doomed characters. Thus, the only

Jack is a man who struggles to control his temper, especially when under the influence. Growing
up with an abusive father, Jack had taken his lumps when the old man was drunk, which was a
lot of the time, (King 229). That is how his father dealt with all his children. When Jack was
seven years old, he was spanked by a neighbor lady for playing with matches, and he threw a rock
at passing car in anger (King 160). Jack s father witnessed his behavior and punished him,
physically and severely. Having learned that Jack responds to violence irrationally, one is not
surprised when Jack subsequently kicks a dog into the gutter. Upon getting insight into Jack s past,
one should immediately assume that Jack is predestined to succumb to brutish behavior because he
either learned this by watching his father give his children their medicine or inherited it like a
physical trait.
King highlights the extent to which heredity affects Jack when he notes that Jack s father s fate
resembles that of the main character in naturalist author Frank Norris novel, McTeague: A Story of

How Global Warming Will Affect Human Health Essay
How Will Global Warming Affect Human Health?
Introduction:
Certain threats to human health loom larger with rising temperatures. Extremely hot temperatures
can cause heat illnesses and loss of life. Several vector borne diseases only occur in warm areas,
and an increase in temperature could mean a spread of these diseases to larger areas. Also, warm
temperatures can increase levels of air pollutants, including ozone, which can harm human health.
Direct Effects:
The most direct way that a rise in global mean temperature will affect human health is through a
more frequent occurrence of heat waves. Heat can seriously harm or even kill during a heat wave.

Increased temperatures also effect people psychologically. Violent crimes and spousal abuse occur
more in summer than winter, in hot cities than in cooler cities, and on hotter days than on cooler
days. Between 1980 and 1982 in Houston, murders and rapes were more common on days over 91
degrees Farenheit. In laboratory experiments, people working in a hot room react to provocation
with greater hostility.
Diseases:
Global warming may increase the risk of some infectious diseases, like malaria, dengue fever,
yellow fever, and encephalitis. These diseases are spread by mosquitoes and other insects, and
could become more common if a rise in temperature allows those insects to live farther north.
Also, the increase in rainfall that is likely to occur with an increase in global temperature would
serve to help increase the reproduction of the vectors. In February 1999, Britain s Institute of
Animal Health linked outbreaks of the lethal horse fever virus in Africa to the El Nino
phenomenon. The warming and increase in rainfall in Africa caused by El Nino led to many more
horses being bitten by infected vectors. The scientists said their research shows this pattern is
likely to happen with other vector borne diseases when global warming occurs. Increased
temperatures could also reduce the gestation periods of disease vectors, which could aid the
breeding of strains resistant to pesticides. Scientists also hypothesize that algae

Christian Theism In A New Hope And A New Hope
What would you think is the most loved and cherished movies of all time? If you asked most
people Star Wars would be very high on that list of most beloved movies of all time, and I would
personally agree. Despite what you think of these movies there is obviously a message behind
each of these movies that teach the audience a lesson beyond the watching of the movies. The
original trilogy of Star Warsmodels an almost perfect example of Christian theism. Obviously, we
should start looking at the first movie of the trilogy, A New Hope , to find the similarities between
Star Wars and Christian theism. Luke Skywalkeris introduces to the audience as the protagonist
that wants to accomplish memorable deeds in his young life. He wants to do good things for
everyone, and that is the first parallel is, the tangible good and evil. There are two sides of the Force

light side you are supposed to be selfless, loyal, and responsible. The dark side on the other hand
is all about selfishness, destruction of relationships, and getting others to do what you want for
you. In the theistic worldview good is what God deems it to be, loving your neighbor, giving to
the poor, and following the set rules of God. Evil is whatever goes against God, including hating

The Patriarchal Male Discourse
Offred s technique of revealing the patriarchal male discourse is by describing Gilead using the
language and truth of the new regime. The issue at hand here is whether this truth is portrayed
from a solely critical standpoint. I would argue that Offred is aware of a different truth but presents
it in a way that creates a hesitancy of whether she has been affected by the Gilead truth. In other
words, it is unclear whether Gilead s discourse has led her to view its values as somewhat
acceptable. An example of this is when she is at the doctors to test her fertility since her function as

Summary Of Red China Blues By Mao Zedong
On April 27, 1989, hundreds of Chinese protestors took a stand against the oppressive and corrupt
government to fight for reform and democracy by occupying Tiananmen Square in Beijing,
China. The protests were preceded by a memorial for Hu Yaobang, a Communist leader unpopular
amongst Party members for his liberal ideas and lack of enthusiasm for Marxism and Maoism.
Marxism is the political theories of Karl Marx which became the basis of Communism and the
inspiration for Mao Zedongto create Maoism. Approximately 100,000 students had traveled to
Tiananmen Square for Hu Yaobangs memorial. Following the memorial, students presented a
petition to meet with Premier Li Peng which the government refused. This led to a boycott of
universities but also led to more demand for democracy. Catalyzing the protests was the unfair
treatment of the Chinese people at the hands of the Chinese Communist Party. Along with students,
civil servants, scholars and laborers joined the protests, risking their lives, jobs and reputations. By
June of 1989, negotiations were in place to end the protests, now amounting to over a million

Bill Nichols and the Discourse of Sobriety
Do mockumentary films retain any trace of the discourse of sobriety ? Throughout film history,
documentary and fiction films have denoted the polar opposites of film form with each representing
two distinct and separate traditions, the cinema of reality and the cinema of fiction (Doherty 16).
However what was once a clear distinction has become blurred as the increasing popularity of
mockumentary continues to weaken the assumed boundaries between fact and fiction (Sicinski).
Prior to this blurring of the lines the documentary genre enjoyed a privileged position amongst
screen forms due its the truth claim (Glick). Reflecting Bill Nichols observation that documentary

Despite multiple documentary conventions being incorporated throughout the film, 24 hour
Party People retains little trace of sobriety as Winterbottom s use of interviews, direct address,
archival footage and narration aims to portray a predominantly fictional world as an actual real
world, rather than depicting the world as it is. Although real archival footage of Joy Division
performing at Wilson s club, as well as actual footage of Wilson s television show Granada
Tonight is used throughout the film, Winterbottom ensures that such footage is subtly interwoven
within sequences of fictional events thus eliminating any trace of sobriety that the use of real
footage may have allowed for. Furthermore it can be argued that 24 hour Party People retains
little evidence of Bill Nichols observation that documentary employs the discourse of sobriety , as
a number of incidents are exaggerated throughout the film. For example, following a scene in
which Wilson s wife is shown getting close with musician Howard Devoto, the cleaner present in
the scene faces the camera, reveals himself as the real Howard Devoto and states that he has no

Jonas Use Of Memories In The Giver
Without memories, life is meaningless. But what does this statement actually mean? This essay
will discuss what it means and how they use it throughout the The Giver. Many of the memories
Jonas was given makes a huge impact himself.
What are memories? Jonas and everyone in the community had no idea what memories were, before
Jonas met The Giver. Memories is by which the mind stores and remembers information, also
something remembered from the past. The first memory Jonas was given was sledding down the
hill in the snow.(103) Jonas thought this was a very thrilling memory.
Without memories no one knows what the past was or how the current life their living in, was
made. ВЁAs weeks went by Jonas learned more and more memoriesВЁ (122). Jonas

Playing Video Games Is Not Only For Kids Anymore
Training up to 50 hours every week with your team in order to make it to the big leagues,
competing against other teams for fame, glory, money, and a chance to join one of the
professional teams. Does not sound like an especially rare scenario, but what if I told you I was
talking about video game players? That is right. Playing video games is not only for kids anymore.
During the last decade eSports (professional online gaming) have grown to an unexpected extent.
Professional players go through intense non stop training every week to keep up with other
teams. Call of Duty, Dota2, League of Legends, these are only a few examples of the most
popular games. Being a professional player is very time consuming and requires a lot of dedication.

I have been gaming for years and tried to go professional in more than one occasion. However, I
lacked the support to achieve so: my family never saw it as a career path that I could follow in
order to have what they considered a successful life, and school was a big impediment that did
not provide me with any help either. I know how it feels to try to go professional but not being
able to only because I didn t have the resources to even try.
First, let s talk about how professional gamers spend their day. The players on Team Liquid, a
professional League of Legends team, practice for a minimum of 40 hours per week and most
play the game far more, (Jacobs) stated Harrison Jacobs in his article Here s the insane training
schedule of a 20 something professional gamer. Harrison followed one of the most popular League
of Legends teams through 2015 s tournament season. They do not have breaks. Even free days
involve playing and discussing strategies. Practicing is a constant effort to avoid falling behind the
other teams and master the changes the game offers every couple of weeks. It is not simply playing
games, it is about mastering something you love. This requires

DECOLORIZATION OF SOME TEXTILE DYES BY PLEUROTUS CITRINOPILEATUS AND ASPERGILLUS NIGER IMMOBILIZED ON WHEAT STRAW Abstract: The potential of wheat straw immobilized Aspergillus niger and Pleurotus citrinopileatus were studied for biodegradation ability of different types of textile dyes. Non exposed and exposed tested immobilized fungi to (1 KGy and 2 KGy) of gamma irradiation were used. The tested textile dyes were Reactive red Bx, Direct Brown BN, Direct yellow 5G, disperse orange 2 RLS, Disperse Violet 3 RS, Sulpher Black Br and Sulpher Brown SG. It was found that immobilized P. citrinopileatus exposed to (2 KGy) had more efficiency for decolorization of direct brown and direct yellow dyes. Decolorization percentage of immobilized P. citrinopileatus in Direct Brown and Direct yellow reach to 95% and 90% respectively after 8 days at 28oC. Peroxidase activity for (1 KGy) irradiated P. citrinopileatus is more than peroxidase activity of unirradiated P. citrinopileatus. RAPD.PCR has been performed to know the effect of gamma rays on P. citrinopileatus; RAPD profile shows change between unirradiated and irradiated Pleurotus citrinopileatus. DNA polymorphism was studied for both irradiated P. citrinopileatus exposed to 1KGy and 2 KGy gamma rays. • 4. Industrial relations ideologies Introduction A frame of reference is not a philosophical concept. It refers to one s worldview and the evaluation or judgement of one s observations. One s frame of reference coincides with one s behaviour and the consequences thereof. Therefore, a frame of reference is fixed but one needs to be sensitive and accept individual differences in frames of reference. This paper aims to address the frame of reference of Pick n Pay s chairman and joint managing director, Mr Raymond Ackerman. The arguments presented in this paper are my own with a theoretical basis from the work of Bluen (1987). My interpretation of Mr Ackerman s frame of reference will be presented in relation to the organisation, conflict, collective bargaining and trade... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This reiterates the notion of balance of power. Collective bargaining The ability for positions to reach a consensus is reached through collective bargaining. Bluen (1987) infers that the pluralist frame of reference does not seek to remove conflict but to manage it. Mr Ackerman acknowledged the existence of conflict and tried to manage it by sending his negotiating team to resolve the conflict and end the strike. Mr Ackerman has a pluralist view because he believes the issue should have been resolved during negotiations. He even went as far as awarding greater bargaining flexibility to the negotiating team. The mere fact that Mr Ackerman was so determined to resolve the conflict though means of collective bargaining should eliminate the likelihood of a unitary frame of reference. Collective bargaining, an equitable balance of power, and essentially the aim to compromise confirm that Mr Ackerman holds a pluralist view on industrial relations. Mr Ackerman fought to reach a consensus for personal and economic reasons. The breakthrough to reach a consensus was achieved after he delivered his speech. He appealed to the opposing union members by focusing on personal matters. This led to the agreement of a negotiation. Mr Ackerman considered going up on his agreement and the union considered going down on theirs. No suppression or unilateral decision making occurred. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Psychological Factors Affecting Eyewitness Memory Whenever a crime takes place, eyewitnesses who are present on the scene can help the police or authorities when the crime is being investigated. However, eyewitness memory can be affected by a series of factors. One of the factors that can affect eyewitness memory is stress. Whenever a person witnesses a violent crime, his response is almost always one that generates a stressful response to the stressor imposed by the crime. This stressful response is the defensive response which is heavily studied by psychophysiologists (e.g., Klorman, Wiesenfeld Weissberg, 1977). This defensive reaction is the physiological response (increased blood pressure, muscle tone and acceleration in heart rate) resulting when attention control is highly dominant (Tucker and Williamson, 1984). When assessing the effectiveness of a condition of heightened stress, it should be compared with another condition that is demonstrably lower in stress (or even free from stress), where the arousal mode of attention control is predominant (Tucker and Williamson, 1984). When the activation mode is dominant, there is a notable deceleration of heart rate and lowered blood pressure (Lacey and Laceym 1974). The Gallipoli campaignwas the first major military action shared by Australians and New Zealanders, and it was a campaign that lasted eight months, with more than 8 000 Australians having been killed in action. The Gospelof Mark is the shortest of the three at only sixteen chapters and is narrated by the suffering and sacrificial death of JesusChrist. Yet avoidance is practically impossible since the core characteristics, ideas and beliefs of each individual often conflict with our own. While we can t avoid conflict, we can learn how to sidestep negative confrontations by becoming familiar with the types of conflicts that most commonly arise in the work place and by learning how to resolve them. Confront them in a neutral setting for a down to earth chat. If the conflict is in its early stages, resolution might be easily and quickly achieved now. During the confrontation, the cause of the conflict must be determined. • 15. The Human Body, Crayfish, Earthworm, And Frog Human Body, Crayfish, Earthworm, and Frog All organisms have different digestive systems, respiratory systems, and circulatory systems. They all need to digest their food, breathe, and circulate their blood, but how do they do it? You will learn how the Human Body, Crayfish, Earthworm, and Frog do those things, and what the similarities and differences are. First of all, the human body, crayfish, earthworm, and frog all have many similarities and differenced about how their digestive system works. They all eat their food through their mouths and the food then travels into the esophagus. The esophagus prepares the food for further digestion. The food in the esophagus then travels in the frog, crayfish, and human body s stomach. The earthworm doesn t have a stomach, but it has a crop that serves as a storage stomach. Once the food is in the stomach, something different happens for each organism. The food in the crayfish travels to the digestive gland which produces digestive substances and from which the absorption of nutrients occurs. The same thing occurs in a frog and the human body, but instead of a digestive gland it is moved into a small intestine. In the earthworm, the food goes from the stomach to the gizzard, which uses stones that the earthworm eats to grind the food completely. After it is moved into the digestive gland, small intestine, or gizzard, the food is mostly digested. The earthworm and human body s food is now moved into the larger intestine, where it absorbs water and any remaining nutrients. The frogs food is stored in something like a large intestine, but it is called the gallbladder. The crayfish only has on intestine. After going through all this, the undigested material leaves through the anus, or for a frog, it is called the cloaca. Secondly, the human body, crayfish, earthworm, and frog also have many similarities and differenced of how their respiratory system works. The crayfish respiratory system is the least complex. The poem, November Cotton Flower , written by Jean Toomer, describes (the conditions when slaves were under the Harlem Renaissance) the conditions in which slaves were under during the Harlem Renaissance where there seems to be no prospect for a brighter future for the slaves in the society. Throughout the poem, Toomer develops his theme of hope and desire for a brighter future by exhausting literary devices such as metaphors, structure, and imagery. The November Cotton Flower is a poem that not only depicts a late autumn setting where the cotton season comes to an end, but also captures the agony and essence of slavery with the usage of metaphors and similes. In the poem, a product of Harlem renaissance, Jean Toomer illustrates the everyday life struggles of the African Americans by conveying his point of view through depleting metaphors of the growing season. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The passage of Prop 140 in 1990 had unintended consequences for the legislator. Not only did Prop 140 implement term limits to increase turnover in the legislation, but it also reduced funding. The reduction in funding led to the closure of bi partisan resources, such as the Assembly Office of Research. The combination of legislators with less experience due to the term limits, and lack of resources as result of the budget cuts, has dramatically weakened the effectivity of the legislator. Consequently, the vacuum created by prop 140 has been filled by lobbyist and the Governor. Recent studies illustrate a significant drop in declines made by the legislator to the Governor s budget since the implementation of term limits (Kousser). Although Proposition 2 does not directly fix the unintended consequences of Prop 140, it mitigates some of the negative effects, bringing more balance between the two branches. Due to the shortcomings of Proposition 58, the governor has much discretion in handling California debt, whereas Prop 2 calls for a mandatory 1.5% of the budget. Additionally, Proposition 2 mandates that scheduled fund transfers can only be repealed if the Governor calls a state of emergency and gains approval of the legislator. In The Time Of The Butterflies Chapter Summary Even though the acts of the Mirabal sisters are based on true events, Julia Alvarez gives a fictional voice to capture and remember the spirit of their memory and carry out their legacy. Alvarez argues a novel is not, after all, a historical document, but a way to travel through the human heart (Alvarez 324). Alvarez successfully does this in her historical fictionnovel, In the Time of the Butterflies, by enticing her readers and transporting them as if they were a part of the Mirabal family. Under the law women were not equal citizens to men, so women that were abused by their husbands or family members attributed it to bad luck. Industrialization widened the work home divide. That is, work done in the home (women s work) and wage labour (men s work) was separated by sex, and the latter was considered real work. In tandem with political and legal gains, throughout the twentieth century the rate of women participating in the work forced increased. As capitalism became the major form of social organization, and women were liberated and emancipated from men and the private sphere, violence was no longer sufficient to enforce dependence on individual men. Stark explains that this was because the material and political basis for patriarchy was displaced, and the illogical privilege based solely on sex was exposed. Sexual hierarchies began to collapse, and men began using a range of behaviours to compliment their use of force. Although it was not specifically written about before the 1970s, this became known as coercive control. Each household governed by coercive control, each relationship, becomes patriarchy in miniature (p. 194). Stark concludes this section by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

King s Gothic Naturalism Naturalist writers of the early 20th century convey the notion that persons are fated to whatever station in life their biological heredity and social environment prepare them for. Those who profess to be proponents of the naturalist perspective see literature as a means to understand the nature of man. Since the naturalist found in scientific discovery only a confirmation of humankind s helplessness in the face of indifferent and inscrutable forces, their writings usually generate an uninspiring idea of humanity s frailty (Strengell 11 12). While the deterministic worldview is logical, it is difficult for many to resonate with powerless and doomed characters. Thus, the only way for the naturalistic frame of mind to reach a wider... When Jack was seven years old, he was spanked by a neighbor lady for playing with matches, and he threw a rock at passing car in anger (King 160). Having learned that Jack responds to violence irrationally, one is not surprised when Jack subsequently kicks a dog into the gutter. Upon getting insight into Jack s past, one should immediately assume that Jack is predestined to succumb to brutish behavior because he either learned this by watching his father give his children their medicine or inherited it like a physical trait. Also, warm temperatures can increase levels of air pollutants, including ozone, which can harm human health. In February 1999, Britain s Institute of Animal Health linked outbreaks of the lethal horse fever virus in Africa to the El Nino phenomenon. The warming and increase in rainfall in Africa caused by El Nino led to many more horses being bitten by infected vectors.
