This document provides guidance on how to conduct a systematic search in PubMed to identify relevant studies for a systematic review. It discusses developing a focused research question, identifying subject headings and keywords, constructing a search strategy, running the search in PubMed, applying filters, and exporting references to a citation manager. The document also provides an overview of systematic reviews and reviews each step of the systematic search process in detail with examples.
Systematic literature review: An introductionKhalid Mahmood
This document introduces systematic literature reviews and compares them to narrative reviews. It defines a systematic literature review as a review of a clearly formulated question that uses systematic and explicit methods to identify, select, critically appraise, and analyze relevant research studies. Systematic reviews aim to minimize bias by following a reproducible methodology. They collate all empirical evidence from studies that meet pre-specified eligibility criteria in order to answer a specific research question. The document outlines the importance of systematic reviews and lists their key characteristics, such as having a clearly stated objective and explicit search methods to identify all eligible studies.
This document provides an overview of conducting a literature review. It discusses reviewing existing research on the topic, relating the study to current literature, and using literature in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods studies. It also outlines steps for searching databases, selecting sources, mapping the literature, abstracting studies, and defining key terms. The goal of a literature review is to situate the research within the broader field and identify what is known and still unknown about the topic.

Literature search for systematic literature reviewKhalid Mahmood
This document discusses conducting a literature search for a systematic review. It identifies the major steps as identifying concepts and keywords, developing a search strategy using Boolean operators and databases, documenting the search, and selecting studies that match the review criteria by screening titles, abstracts, and full texts. Sources include electronic databases, grey literature, and backward/forward reference checking. Record keeping of the search process is also recommended.
Advanced literature searching for health sciencese1033930
The document provides guidance on conducting an advanced literature search. It recommends that searches be comprehensive, structured, and auditable. Key steps include identifying concepts, selecting search terms, applying search techniques, selecting databases, refining results, and making a final selection. Databases like CINAHL are suggested. The document provides tips for developing effective search strategies and evaluating search results.
This document provides guidance on developing a search strategy for a systematic literature review. It discusses clarifying the research question, identifying keywords and synonyms, using MeSH/subject headings, applying Boolean logic and truncation. The example search strategy provided searches PubMed for studies on the effectiveness of staying active versus bed rest for managing back pain. It combines terms for back pain, spinal diseases, and activities of daily living using Boolean logic. The strategy limits to clinical trials in humans and excludes animal studies.
Data extraction in systematic literature reviewKhalid Mahmood
Data extraction is the process by which researchers obtain necessary information about study characteristics and findings from included studies in a systematic literature review. Researchers must determine what data needs to be extracted from studies to answer the review's questions and develop a data extraction form to extract this information in a consistent manner. The extracted data is then typically summarized in a table of evidence to synthesize the findings across studies.
This document provides an introduction to NVivo, a qualitative data analysis software. It describes how NVivo can be used to organize, analyze, and find insights in unstructured qualitative data like documents, interviews, and social media posts. The document outlines the basic NVivo workspace and functions for importing data sources, coding data, running queries, and visualizing results. It also provides guidance on setting up an NVivo project and includes some example tasks for getting started with the software.

This document outlines the methodology for conducting action research, including developing a research plan with qualitative and quantitative data collection methods, analyzing and interpreting the collected data by identifying categories and patterns, and developing an action plan to address the research question. It also discusses obtaining necessary permissions, maintaining confidentiality, and reflecting on and communicating the results.
This document outlines the key components of a literature review, including an introduction defining a literature review and its importance. It then lists and briefly describes the main sections of a literature review, such as different types of literature reviews, important considerations before writing one, strategies for writing it, and tips for writing it. Finally, it provides examples of references used in literature reviews.
1) Citation metrics have evolved over time from bibliometrics in the 1960s to more recent metrics like altmetrics and webometrics. They are used to assess the influence of published research.
2) Key citation metrics include the journal impact factor, h-index, and article-level metrics like citation counts and altmetrics. Data sources include Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar.
3) Citation indexing links cited and citing articles, allowing researchers to trace the development of ideas over time. Citation analysis helps understand why authors cite other works.

The document discusses blending and braiding multiple funding streams to provide services. Braiding involves using funds from different sources to pay for services while maintaining separate accounting for each funding source. Blending combines funds into a single pool that can be allocated without tracking the original source. The discussion focuses on strategies for braiding funding streams and services while acknowledging there is no single recipe, as the appropriate approach depends on specific ingredients and dosages tailored to each situation based on practical value and social proof.
The document discusses a proposed adult apprenticeship/traineeship pilot scheme that aims to address skills obsolescence through upskilling and reskilling. The scheme involves three streams - an upskilling stream of up to six months traineeship plus a job, a reskilling stream of three months traineeship plus apprenticeship for career changers, and another reskilling stream of just apprenticeship plus job for career changers. Financial benefits for participants include allowances for interviews, relocation, language training, and subsistence for trainees/apprentices. Both employers and employees would benefit but also face challenges - employers gain experienced workers but must commit to change, while employees gain qualifications and prospects but
