Biographia Literaria By Coleridge
The composed landmark of Coleridge s basic work is contained in 24 sections of Biographia Literaria
(1815 17). In this basic disquisition, Coleridge concerns himself with the act of feedback, as well as,
with its hypothesis. In his down to earth way to deal with feedback, we get the look at Coleridge the
writer; while in hypothetical exchange, Coleridge the logician went to the center stage. . In Chapter
XIV of Biographia Literaria, Coleridge s vision of the nature and capacity of verse in philosophical
terms is examined. The writer inside Coleridge talks about the qualification amongst verse and
exposition, and the capacity of verse, and the quick capacity of verse, while the logician examines the
contrast amongst verse and sonnet. He was the main English essayist to demand that each ... Show

This debate with Wordsworth on poetry is well understood in chapter 17 of Biographia Literaria. The
chapter is well structured and proves to be a good debater. Coleridge directly does not attack
Wordsworth s apparent weakness in the beginning he accepts his fellow oppositions strengths. The
ideas of Wordsworth that Rustic Man has exceptional wisdom is critiqued by Coleridge that any man
can have this wisdom no matter where he lives city, town or country. Provided, thsu man should have
two important virtues of characteristics they are, firstly, the man should not be living in poverty but
working hard for as living and the other quality needed for wisdom is knowledge of the Bible or other
religious texts. He goes on to argue that neither the country nor nature itself have magical qualities
that can confer insight or wisdom. He comments on the wisdom of rustic life of Wordsworth: a man
can only gain value if he is educated or both with particular sensitivity to the natural, both attributes

Baby Boom Attachment Theory
In late 1987, the movie Baby Boom was released in the United States. This was a film that depicted
the life of J.C Wiatt, played by Diane Keaton; a driven business woman with nothing to tie her down
or get in her way. She was proud to be free of any of life s burdens, such as children or marriage. She
had a man in her life, but he was just as driven as she was, both happy to live their lives together but
separately at the same time. As the film opens, we see J.C. walking confidently down the city street,
she had purpose, she had direction and nothing was going to stop her or get in her way, just like the
other women who made up 53% of the workforce. Then she received one phone call that had the
potential to, and ultimately did, change her life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women were fighting to get and hold the top offices in business, and break away from the stereotype
that said their place was in the home. J.C. too had proven she had made that stand for herself, and was
out performing the men around her. She knew she had walked away from the other side , but she was
okay with her choice. During the film her boss, as well as Steven, try to explain to her what she is
giving up as she comes to key decision making turns in the road. In an article by Anne Marie
Slaughter, president of New America foundation, shares that yes women do feel they must sacrifice
either their career and/or their family and cannot have it all (Slaughter web). She goes on to share that,
how we as Americans value a mother s time at home versus her time in the workplace is changing.
Sadly, still in 2016, some mothers feel they still have to make that choice. If a woman wants to go out
and be the main provider, or hold an equal role of her husband, there should be a way to make it work.
In some homes, the families have found a plan that works, with shared schedules by the man and the
woman. Others have close family members that help to care for the young children, or the children are
placed in daycare or afterschool care. The growth of working women/mothers had grown

The Battle Of Inter State War
Bull defines war as organized violence carried on by political units against each other (184). With
respect to this broad definition, both he and Waltz posit models of conflict which can effectively be
used to analyze the sources of modern violence. The warrior scholars employ the theories of multiple
political philosophers including Kant and Rousseau in order to build theories that encapsulate the
complex variables which lead to armed engagement. These theories can be extrapolated in order to
explain the causes of inter state war, and to provide explanations of violence in the modern global
theatre. Overall, Waltz s argument of the three images is extremely persuasive. The logical
underpinnings of the models and the ways in which they collaborate are, for the most part, concrete
and well thought out. His theory provides for three basic ideas through which the origins of all conflict
can be distilled. First, Waltz (1959) provides that thinkers such as Spinoza place the responsibility of
violence at the feet of human imperfection and lack of reason. Secondly, he postulates that domestic
policy of a state will lead to conflict (Waltz 1959). Finally, the theorist channels Rousseau s The Social
Contract to explain warfare as a symptom of international relations (Waltz 1959). The ways in which
these three ideas correlate are what make Waltz s explanation so compelling. The first two of these
images, the man and the state, explain how a country behaves internally. The

Causes And Effects Of Video Games
1 LastName Name Course Professor 5 December 2017 Video Game Addiction and Its Harmful Effects
Playing video games is a pastime that many children enjoy. It has been found that National surveys of
American youth ages 8 to 18 by the Kaiser Family Foundation ... found that in 2005, 49% of children
had a game console in their bedroom (Olson et al. 55). From this information, it can be assumed that
after school about half of the children come home and start playing video games. The duration of time
that children play these video games varies. In recent times it is estimated that, ...adolescent girls
played video games for an average of 5 h a week whereas boys averaged 13 h a week. (Gentile et al.
5). Gaming, therefore, has become more than just a fun activity, it has become an addiction. Addiction
can be defined as ... with an uncontrollable urge, often accompanied by a loss of control, a
preoccupation with use, and a desire to continue with the activity even though it creates problems
(Skoric et al. 568). These children feel the need to play video games, and it is taking over their lives.
This addiction to video games impacts many aspects of a child s life. As a result of this addiction,
video games cause difficulties at school, detrimental impact to relationships and teenage development.
There has been a link between poor school performance and difficulties at school with high usage of
video games. It has been reported that, ...high school students who report spending more time

A Career As A Spanish Language Teacher
When I was younger I observed and experienced the Spanish culture and found such interest in
expanding my education to later on pursue the career of a Spanish Language Teacher. After
researching the responsibilities, the work conditions, salary, the outlook, and future; a career as a
spanish language teacher would be interesting, and the perfect training would be at St. Mary s
University at San Antonio. Tasks and responsibilities for this career are all very different and must be
done on a daily basis when getting the students to comprehend and understand the new teachings.
Foreign Language Teachers must make sure to interpret the terminology and translate it into the
student s natural language to help them understand better in their learning. They must also provide
instruction in the literature and also in the history of the culture so that the students will be learning
correctly. Professors should also tests students frequently to see their progress so that they know
exactly where they re at. These tests and other activities will show the teacher if the students
understand to read, write, and most importantly the overall understanding in the dialect. If the
instructor sees that the students may need a bit more of help with understanding, it is recommended
that the students work in small groups so that other learners that have a better understanding of the
language can help the ones that don t really understand. Professors should also ensure students that

The Impact Of Technology On The Music Industry Essay
Technology has brought many advantageous opportunities to the music industry in the area of
production and distribution. Besides popular and valuable instruments such as the electric guitar and
the synthesizer, technology has brought us new production equipment such as high fidelity
microphones, re mastering equipment and CD ROMs that provide us with a crystal clear sound of the
recording. The development of these equipment has allowed the audience to experience a higher
quality of sound coming from both live concerts and recordings.
Easiness of transportation that came along with the technological developments in the sector, has
allowed the record labels to distribute music all around the world. During the 1950s turbojet engines
were cleared for civilian use, and with new civil jet engine cargo aircraft distribution of almost any
item became easier and faster than ever before. The evolution of the computer and the Internet was
also a great distribution advantage for the music industry and should not be underestimated. New
sound formats, such as the MP3, have made music distribution easier. Companies could now provide
selling licenses to companies that would allow users to download certain songs from the Internet at a
very high speed. The music industry also got many opportunities for advertisements since they were
now not limited to billboards, TV and radio. Many companies can now promote their records by
playing a preview for the user, on certain websites.

Essay on American Indians
amp;#8220; amp;#8217;Indians amp;#8217;: Textualism, Morality, and the Problem of History ;, an
essay written by Jane Tompkins, a professor of English at Duke University, outlines Tompkins
dissatisfaction on how American Indians are portrayed throughout history. As children, we are taught
that in amp;#8220;1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue ;, and that Peter Minuet bought all of
Manhattan Island from the Indians for only twenty four dollars worth of trinkets. In high school, we
were taught that in World War II, the Germans were all heartless savages, and that the best course of
action to end the war was to use the atomic bomb on Japan. It is seen that amp;#8220;the victor writes
the history books. ; In other words, the dominant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tompkins began her research of the misrepresentation of American Indians with Perry Miller
amp;#8217;s book Errand into the Wilderness. In his book, Miller writes, amp;#8220;the massive
narrative of the movement of European culture into the vacant wilderness of America. ; This passage
from Miller amp;#8217;s book provokes a shocking response from Tompkins. Tompkins is shocked
that Miller referred to America amp;#8217;s wilderness as amp;#8220;vacant. ; It is obvious that upon
the arrival of European settlers to America, the settlers encountered the Indians at some point in time.
Thus, America amp;#8217;s wilderness wasn amp;#8217;t amp;#8220;vacant. ; Miller fails to observe
the presence of the Indians. From his own personal experiences with the vast wilderness in Africa,
Miller correlates that experience to the experiences that the settlers must have had when they arrived
in America. It is clear that Miller amp;#8217;s own experiences have clouded his ability to give an
unbiased and totally truthful account of history. amp;#8220; amp;#8230; What is invisible to the
historian in his own historical moment remains invisible when he turns his gaze to the past, ;
(Tompkins, 412).
The book, New England Frontier: Puritan and Indians, by Alden Vaughan, reconciled Miller
amp;#8217;s position on the presence of Indians in American history. Vaughan amp;#8217;s book

The Four Witches In Dorothy s Wizard Of Oz
In the first chapter of the wonderful wizard of Oz, we are introduced to Dorothy, her uncle Henry and
his wife Em. Dorothy and her family lived in a very petite, four walled house in the core of the Kansas
prairie. Inside the house, they had a very small hole in the ground that serve as a cyclone cellar .
Whenever Dorothy set foot outside the house, all she would notice is how gray and dull everything
would look; including her aunt Em. She who once was a young and pretty wife , was now thin and
gaunt and never smiled and her uncle Henry was exact same way. The only source of content that
Dorothy had came from her dog, Toto. He was not like her s surroundings, he was cheerful and play

But the Tin Woodman chopped and cleared the path. The scarecrow asked him why would he want a

who he fell in love with. She promised to marry him if he would work hard enough to built a better
house for her, but the old lady she lived with was lazy and did not want her to marry and then leave
her. So the old woman decided to go to the Wicked Witch of the East, and stop them from being
together. The Witch man casted a spell on the Tin Woodman s ax and chopped off his limbs one by
one, but every time he would replace them with limbs of tin. Nevertheless, the ax ended up splitting
him in half, he then, was no longer made of flesh nor had a heart. He then realized, he no longer loved
or cared the Munchkin girl. And then, one day while axing some trees, he forgot to bring his oil can
and got caught up in a rainstorm, which made his joints rust. While standing there for over a year, he
reminisce on how happy he once was when he still had a heart. Dorothy and the Scarecrow both
seemed very interested in his story, but the Scarecrow still believed that a brain was far more
important than a heart. Both the him and the Tin Woodman debated on which was more important.

The parties have a set amount of time to review the recommendations before they are posted publicly.
They have 10 days to notify the Minister of their acceptance of the recommendations. If both parties
accept the recommendations, they are binding. If one or both of the parties does not indicate
acceptance of the recommendations, the Labour Relations Board conducts a vote of the party or
parties that did not accept them. If the recommendations are rejected again after the vote, the parties
can continue negotiating a settlement on their own, or give a 72 hour notice to strike or lockout.
Government pays the costs associated with a DIB. Public Emergency Tribunal (PET) In the case of an
existing, or imminent strike or lockout, the provincial government has the option to end a dispute by
declaring a public emergency and referring the matter to a Public Emergency Tribunal (PET), which is
a form of compulsory arbitration. This is only used when a dispute may result in damage to health or
property (e.g., disruption of health services, water plant, etc.) or unreasonable hardship is placed on
persons not involved in the dispute. A time period will be set during which the parties can meet on
their own or with a government appointed mediator to reach a settlement. If a settlement cannot be
reached on or before the fixed date, the dispute is referred to the PET. The PET process is initiated and
the Minister fixes a deadline by which the PET must issue a binding award.

Machiavellian Folly in The Prince Essay
Machiavellian Folly in The Prince
In the annals of history, many individuals have contributed great works of literature, waxing
philosophically on the meaning of life, death, and love. Niccolo Machiavelli wrote not on love or life,
but on power: How to capture it, how to consolidate it, and how to defend it against all comers. His
work has been talked about and dissected to the extent that his subject matter and methods have
earned their own moniker: Machiavellian. Nonetheless, this great philosopher s works did not meet
with unanimous approval. His own student, Thomas Hobbes, presented a very different account of
politics. This essay offers a Hobbesian critique of some of Machiavelli s arguments, focusing in and

2 Humans, according to Machiavelli, are not the morally grounded beings the Bible espouses them to
be. He writes in The Prince: For one can say this generally of men: that they are ungrateful, fickle,
pretenders and dissemblers, evaders of danger, eager for gain.3 Clearly, Machiavelli argues that man is
precarious a being of dubious morals and selfish desires. Hobbes agreed with this analysis, and took it
one step further. According to Hobbes, all mankind has a restless and perpetual desire for power,
which ceaseth only with death 4. Moreover, man can never be satisfied with the power he has. Hobbes
writes:
... [man] cannot assure the power and the means to live well, which he hath present, without the
acquisition of more [power].
Man s first need is to provide security for himself. Past experience and reason dictate that he will do
this by any means necessary even if it means killing everyone around him. Critics argue that Hobbes
and Machiavelli are too pessimistic; but they would both beg to differ. To both Hobbes and
Machiavelli, Aristotelian virtue is a deception; it can never be reached. Men do not want to be good;
they want to lie, they want to cheat, and they want to kill. To expect otherwise would be contrary to
their hostile nature. To both Hobbes and Machiavelli, political analysis must begin by identifying the
human being for what he really is a self interested, self seeking

An Analysis Of Jacob And Wilhelm Grimm s Version Of The...
Reading of Rumpelstiltskin
Do not abuse your power, do not lie, and above all else, do not be greedy. Like many within its genre,
Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm s version of the fairy tale Rumpelstiltskin, attempts to propagate strong
moral lessons towards a youthful demographic. Many years ago, this concept held true to me, in
which, with little contradiction, I was able to draw the three aforementioned conclusions from the
classic fable. Recently, however, upon revisitation of the text, certain elements within the Grimm
brother s tale evoked a strongly oppositional reading from me. Where I once accepted the author s
words with minimal hesitation, I now found myself strongly resenting the good character,
unexpectedly empathising with the once ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alas, with the ability to spin straw into gold, the ring and necklace offered by the soon to be queen
were of little worth to Rumpelstiltskin from the very beginning, yet still, in her time of need, he
assisted her like a true gentleman. In fact, in exchange for his valuable services, he only ever asks for
something truly precious, her child, when she no longer faces the threat of death. Evil? I think not.
Rather, perhaps Rumpelstiltskin was simply lonely and in desire of the love and attention of a human
companion...And for this, he died?
As such, with this initial contradiction, I was prompted to re read the text once more with even greater
opposition, the seemingly pure and good willed Miller s daughter now falling into the path of my
oppositional frenzy.
She was, I noticed during my second reading now, in direct contradiction with my 21st century view
of women , acting as a shameful and outdated representation of females in general. Surely, rather than
simply contradicting her father at the beginning, or telling the king the truth later, she responds
submissively and fearfully to their actions and commands, as though she is incapable of anything
herself, relying on others (Rumpelstiltskin) instead to rectify her situation. This damsel in distress
representation although easily accepted in my innocence as a child is one that I found exceedingly
unpalatable now.
Furthermore, as I continued, I discovered something else that saw me

Summary of Video
The video linked below is about a woman named Laura Lee, who has Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
(ALS). At this point in the disease, Laura s symptoms are expressed through her slurred speech,
muscle weakness, and inability to walk. However, she is still somewhat mobile and able to stand with
support. When the video shows Laura speaking, the lack of movement in her facial muscles is
displayed. This severely impacts the intelligibility of her speech. Despite the major debilitations this
disease has caused, she continues to live her life to the fullest by coaching CrossFit and remaining as
active as possible. The video shows her coaching CrossFit while in her wheel chair, exercising by
lifting an unweighted bar, and also attending her daughter s wedding and dancing with her. The video
also includes her husband, who talks about the impact of her disease. Despite the history of ALS in
Laura s family, he mentions the irony that someone so active and physically fit can become debilitated
by this disease. It s a reminder of how unexpected and sudden ALS can be. Most inspiring, her
husband talks about his wife s acceptance of her illness and Laura talks about how she keeps a smile
on her face.

The Vietnam War On Vietnam
The War on Vietnam Many believe that the way Americans entered the war against the North Vietnam
communists was unjust. The United States got into a war that they had no clue on how to win. The
Vietnam War was a long, costly armed conflict that pitted the communist regime of North Vietnam
and its southern allies, known as the Viet Cong, against South Vietnam and its principal ally, the
United States. The divisive war, increasingly unpopular at home, ended with the withdrawal of U.S.
forces in 1973 and the unification of Vietnam under Communist control two years later. More than 3
million people, including 58,000 Americans, were killed in the conflict. The South Vietnam
government was not communist like its counterpart to the north, and all they wanted was peace
amongst the North. The leader of the north was Ho Chi Minh, a communist leader that wanted
absolute power. Ho Chi Minh actually worked in the United States as a baker. It s odd for someone
from Vietnam to go work in a country like the United States of America, but with his rich family he
was able to travel to the United States to work. He also lived and traveled to the United Kingdom, he
worked as a chef again and a dish cleaner. When he traveled to France, he wanted equality amongst
the Vietnamese and French Indo China. He and group of his political friends attempted to have a
social reform amongst French Indo China but was denied by the French government. After years of

Good Life Analysis
What is your version of the good life using three aspects of life and is it the same as the person next to

may have the idea of money, clothes, and cars while another may have the idea of family, no death,
and a big house. The two individuals have two completely different points of view, interests, likes,
dislikes, and aspirations. My version of the good life is nothing like the other examples but it is okay
because it is supposed to be different. Personally my ideal life include having enough money to
sustain and be comfortable, having a successful career, and having a lifetime supply of puppies and
dogs. There are reasons behind why I have chosen these specific aspects of a possible life and they

I chose the first aspect to be money because I want to have enough money to get my family and me in

Hip Hop And Its Effects On African Society
Hip Hop In Africa
Hip Hop in Africa is used to spread awareness and evoke calls to action on sensitive subjects that
affect the majority of the people in Africa. Hip Hop influences many people in Africa because it is
meaningful and only tends to speak about the positives and negatives of African society.Hip Hop in
Africa is used as a method to spread awareness on HIV/Aids, create a call to action to tell people to
save themselves when tragedies hit, and change the way parents raise their children.
One way that Hip Hop improves African society is that it spreads important messages about family
values. Stating that young people in Senegal lose themselves as a result of parents enforcing negative
things to their kids. The song Mariama by Senegalese rapper Omzo Dollar gives a call to action,
warning people, youth in general, that young people in Senegal lose themselves as a result of parents

meets the love of her life and all seem perfect. The love of the girl s life was nice and promised to

s parents did not care or put any consideration into account, the girl s feelings. They just wanted their

Telephoto Lens
A telephoto lens can also change the perspective of the picture, giving a completely new angle or
focus to your photo. Also, telephoto lenses are handy at compressing perspective. This is when the
background of a photo appears to be closer to the subject than what is experienced with the naked eye.
This is beneficial when you cannot physically move your subject closer to the background. You can
also fill the frame of your photo by getting shots from a far distance. This will bring in objects further
back into the frame, filling out the edges of your shot nicely. With this lens, you can isolate far away
objects much better than with a wide angle lens. Since the telephoto zoom closes the distance between
you and your subject, it is ideal for capturing pictures of wildlife. Next to using an actual telescope, a

strong depth of field is when the background seems to go on forever, and there are many defining

there is not one specific subject, but instead the scenery is the most important element of the photo. As
you can see, there are many reasons why a wide angle lens may interest you. Prices start in the $150

The Problem Of Real Estate
Those who have never bought, sold or otherwise transferred title to a property in Australia will need to
learn a thing or two about the subject of conveyancing. Generally speaking, this is the legal transfer of
title to property from one person to another. There are some kits on the market that enable buyers to
complete the process involved in transferring ownership of property, but this is not generally
recommended as differences in state laws, and the complexity of the process itself, can cause potential
problems. Real Estate is typically the most valuable asset that any of us will ever own, and its legal
title transfer must be handled carefully to ensure the protection of all parties and full compliance with
the law. It is, therefore, important to know what conveyancing is and what is involved in the process,
as well as what a conveyancer does in this process and how both buyers and sellers can benefit from
their services. When seeking any professional for their services, it is critical to find someone who is
qualified. This is especially important for a transaction as major as those involving real estate. You ll
want to have a good idea of how much it costs to employ their services and whether one should use a
conveyancer or a solicitor when engaging in various property transfers. This subject may seem new
and daunting to someone who has not gone through it, but the right professional can navigate you
through it to a settlement that is amicable for both parties.

Assisted Suicide Is Not Common For All Areas Throughout...
Assisted Suicide
Imagine being diagnosed with a life ending disease and experiencing such excruciating pain that
doctors say cannot be healed. Pain is a terrible thing to experience, especially when it is permanent.
What can be done to relieve that pain? What if the only option to rid the pain from the patient is
death? No one knows how that feels until it happens to them, that is why assisted suicide is used.
Assisted suicide is a practice throughout most of the United States that terminates the lives of dying
patients. This process is when patients are in agonizing pain that is too overwhelming to bear;
therefore they beg physicians to end their lives. Physicians have the ability to end a patient s life by
withholding medication or removing the patient from a life supporting device. Patients have to meet
certain requirements before the procedure can be completed. Many people wish that this practice was
legal, but there are others that do not believe in it. Legalized physician assisted suicide is not common
in all areas throughout the United States. There are many different views about physician assisted
suicide, and the subject is a rather touchy one to discuss. There are many details about this issue that
many people are not informed about like the past situations dealing with assisted suicide and
physicians, areas that allow the procedure to be done, and the rules and regulations that patients have
to meet before anything can be done.

Dualism of Human Nature Essay
The Dualism of Human Nature and Its Social Conditions Emile Durkheim
According to Durkheim s work The Dualism of Human Nature and Its Social Conditions (DHN), a
man has a dual nature which is made up of the body (individual) and the soul (social). He sheds light
on this by citing post Durkheim theories which he does not agree with and which do not solve the
problem of this dual nature. Durkheim also uses The Elementary Forms of the Religious Life (EFRL)
to discuss the religious aspect of the body and soul. Upon reading, it is discovered that as society
evolves, so does this dual nature. In DHN, Durkheim argues that sociology must examine what an
individual consists of because it is a result of the whole society. It is this society ... Show more content

There were also 2 other theories that attempted to explain this dualism of human nature : (1) The
Ontological Explanation by Plato man s inward struggle consists of being good and being unethical.
Plato says that because we are part of both, we are necessarily in conflict with ourselves. (p.4) And a
theory by Kant (2) Sensitivity and Reason we have an ability to think individually or collectively.
Durkheim feels that these 2 theories only re state the problem it does not resolve it. They also assume
that man s nature is above explanation, but we should be able to explain it.
Again, in EFRL, Durkheim shows religiosity from a sociological standpoint in which individual
consciousness is combined with common consciousness. To look at it another way, individuals use
signs and symbols to interpret and/or explain their feelings. If the group all uses the same signs and
symbols, it then becomes the symbol or representation of the group s sacredness. Even if the
individual is no longer part of the collective society, he still holds the sacredness of the signs/symbols
to the same high standard, and he does this by way of festivals, ceremonies, etc.
Also in DHN, Durkheim

The Communist Manifesto By Karl Marx And Friedrich Engels
The Communist Manifesto was written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels to begin explaining
Communism and its goals. The Manifesto suggests that history acts according to what is called class
struggle. The means of production are what truly defines the class relationships according to Marx and
Engels (Marx 2002). Inevitably, the classes conflict and become hostile, no longer moving fluidly
(Spalding 2000). The Manifesto states that this conflict becomes so severe that it eventually becomes
a revolution and one of the classes becomes the ruler of the other, keeping one oppressed while the
other flourishes. These two classes by name are the bourgeoisie and the proletariat (Marx ch.2 2002).
The bourgeoisie being the highly upper class and the proletariat being everyone else or the working
class . It is important to note that Karl Marx was a member of the bourgeoisie himself. He had the
ability to recognize the partiality given to the upper class and the repercussions of this act (Marx
2002).
According to this manifesto, the dynamic between the two has shaped the way society has industry
where its values originate. Before this, it was traditionally so that society was organized into more
complex hierarchies (Spalding 2000). But, as a result of the French Revolution, feudalism was
replaced by this newer sense of class order. Instead of having a variety of classes such as nobles,
artisans, royalty etc., there were now simply two. There was now a severe demand for more

The Tally Stick Essay
Allison O Regan
Prof. Fraustino
Intro. To Poetry
Peer Review Paper #1 The Tally Stick
In the poem The Tally Stick , Jarold Ramsey uses a stick to symbolize the relationship between two
people. Carved notches, arrowheads, and other symbols along the grain of the stick each have their
own special meaning and represent certain events that occurred within these people s lives together.
Though over the time, the stick becomes whittled down and weakened; those carvings are a testament
to the strength and endurance of their relationship. Stanza two of the poem takes time to reveal what
each individual notch or marking on the tally stick represents in their actual lives. The most intricate
carving described represents the day of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author then says that the lengthening runes of our lives run through it all (19). Runes being
something written in characters, the characters used to describe the personal events within the
relationship surpasses the historical events that occurred. At the end of the poem, the final product of
the tally stick is described. It had been carved all the way from end to end with meaningful events and
occurrences that helped to shape an entire relationship. It is conveyed as being delicate as scrimshaw
(21), scrimshaw being the word for patterns and designs engraved on fragile materials such as whale
bone. The tally stick is now so lessened, that it would not be able to bear you up (21) or support you
were you to lean on it. Though positive experiences were revealed in the beginning of the poem, such
as the children and the wedding, the author also makes it a point to say that there were also regrets
throughout the time he spent with his partner. The wood was polished...hand over hand with the regret,
meaning their hands ran over the wood so often thinking of mistakes that were made that it was
smoothed down. The line and in one another s blameless eyes go blind (27) shows that throughout
time, and throughout all the events that happened, the two individuals do not hold anything against
one another and one person is not more responsible for anything that happened than the other. The
Tally Stick describes all of the events that

Bernice Bobs Her Hair Essay
amp;#8220;Bernice Bobs Her Hair ;
Have you ever at one time or another felt like an outsider? Many people do, trying desperately to fit in

It seemed Bernice had amp;#8220;stolen private property ; which allegedly belonged to Marjorie (1).
Sometime being popular will make one more territorial and suspicious of others which might hurt
them in the long run.
Without Marjorie amp;#8217;s guidance, however, Bernice would have stayed the naïve and shy, thus
keeping her from being accepted by the popular crowd. It was evident in the very beginning of the
story that she was uncomfortable in social situations. When Warren asked her if she would like to
dance at the party, she immediately told him that is was too crowded to dance and when asked to go
out to the veranda, she muttered that it was too hot and proceeded to stand there. It seems that Bernice,
being a poor conversationalist, feels too uncomfortable being with others. In a group Bernice is more
likely to be stay inconspicuous and just listen rather that beginning or entering a conversation.
Another example of her shy persona was when Warren and Bernice sat down on the veranda. It was
apparent she was very nervous about the situation; her knees were pressed together so tightly one
could have cracked a nut between them. Bernice is also very naïve and Marjorie took full advantage of
that. Her innocence led her to believe that Marjorie could make all her dreams come true, question
nothing, and following all orders from her. This is apparent at the dinner table when she announced
that she was going to bob her hair in the near

The Banking Concept Of Education, By Richard Rodriguez
Just listen. An individual who takes the guidance of others to heart possesses a priceless quality. The
authority figures in The Banking Concept of Education, by Paulo Freire demonstrate the pivotal role
that educators hold in the educational system. The authority figures in The Achievement of Desire, by
Richard Rodriguez show the impact of educators on an individual student. Another text called Why
Chinese Mothers Are Superior, by Amy Chua illustrates the specific conditioning that authority figures
implement on to students so that they can succeed in their education. What it means to attain
educational success is to fulfill the expectations of authority figures in a student s education.

Individuals need to have the drive to succeed in education that the authorities believe is necessary for
the individuals to attain educational success. Authority figures don t want students to have poor
qualities like being lazy and self indulgent (Chua 55) that would inhibit their educational abilities.
Instead, they want their students to possess the positive qualities that they would approve of and
would advocate. Many parents believe that To get good at anything you have to work (Chua 52). Even
though the child s mentality may not be focused in this manner, it needs to become this way by the
influencing of the well intentioned parents. An ambitious quality that parent figures want is for their
children to practice, practice, practice (Chua 52) no matter how they feel or want to give up. The
parents mold virtuous qualities like the willingness to do things over and over (Chua 55) into their
child so that he or she can become good at school. This ambition is expected to be demonstrated
within the classroom as well. Authorities like teachers want their students to have the ambition to
complete all of the actions that they desire. A teacher wants a student to have ambition where Any

Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s Atonement with the Nazi Past Essay
Rainer Werner Fassbinder was arguably one of the greatest German directors after World War II.
During his fifteen year career, Fassbinder directed and produced among his other film works 40 full
length films. Fassbinder was born in a small Bavarian town, Bad Wörishofen, on May 31, 1945, and
died presumably of a drug overdose at the young age of 37 on June 10, 1982. He was the most
prominent German film director, actor and screenwriter in the New German Cinema. He continued the
tradition of great German movies, and dealt with the German Nazi past, the average person s
involvement in the dictatorship and the tendency to suppress the memory of those years after World
War II. The political reality and hard times in the 1920 s helped with ... Show more content on

Many directors and actors claimed that they were not involved with the Nazi regime and just did their
work in films, such as Leni Riefenstahl who failed to examine her role critically in the Nazi regime.
Some actors had a difficult time to gain employment for a short while, such as Heinz Rühmann, but he
achieved success again, as did many actors who were prosperous in the postwar years in the mostly
German market again ( Heinz Ruehmann ). The movies in the 1950 s continued the tradition of
entertainment and many movies were made for pure entertainment of the masses that wanted to escape
their day to day lives. With the occurrence of the economic miracle in the Ludwig Erhard era, people
were busy accumulating wealth yet again and tended to ignore the recent Nazi past ( It s now
Chancellor Erhard ). This premise is what Fassbinder attempted to explore with his movies, the refusal
to deal with the past critically and the concentration on accumulation of wealth and prosperity, often at
the expense of emotional engagement with the fellow humans. Rainer Werner Fassbinder was born at
the end of the war and grew up in the Wirtschaftswunder (=economic miracle) in West Germany s
conservative Bavaria. Coming from the theater, he was an accomplished actor and started to direct his
first low budget movie Love is Colder than Death in 1969 (Smith). Rainer Werner Fassbinder s work
includes film and television, theater, radio plays and essay writing (Smith).

How To Legalize Organ Transplants
In the 1950 s scientist and doctors realized that they could transplant one person s organ into another s
body performing their first successful transplant. Since then numerous lives have been saved and
prolonged due to organ transplants. Every year since then the amount of people needing organ
transplants have continued to grow. This growth has exceeded the amount of organ donations leaving
thousands waiting for an organ they may never receive. In desperation, people have turned to illegal
alternative methods to obtain an organ for fear of death. They offer monetary gain to others for much

As days turn into weeks, weeks into months and months into years, the initial hope begins to fail as
one is knocking on deaths door. The U.S. Department of Health Human Services reports, an average
of 18 people die each day waiting for transplants that can t take place because of the shortage of
donated organs (U.S. Department of Health Human Services, 2013). An article in The Penn Center
guide to bioethics states, One of these is a child or a baby. These deaths are especially tragic because
many of them could be prevented if there were more organs available (Caplan, 2009). It must remain a
frightening matter to realize that one s days are numbered and devoid of a transplant one will have to
leave behind loved ones, incomplete business, and unpaid bills for others to acquire. Frustration and
anger must attack the hearts of those helplessly watching as loved ones watch their spouses, children,
parents, and friends start to fade away. As their hope dwindles and desperation turns into anger at the
realization that death is preventable, many turn to alternative methods to obtain much needed organs.
Therefore, while laws insist that altruism is the only way one is to obtain an organ a black market for
organs has manifested itself. The black market

Home Descriptive Essay
My definition for home indescribable by words or by a simple thought, but home is rather of a feeling.
Home is the calmness and serenity that settles over me like a blanket on a cold snowy night, just a
silent assurance telling me I belong there. It took me quite a bit of time to understand where exactly
that place is, and I didn t know that the answer was always right in front of me. This feeling would
come and go, and I would never recognize it because I knew that only the house I lived in was my
home. Home is in fact more than what the words in the dictionary say.
When I was younger, I lived in the Philippines, my backyard were the rice fields and I would always
play hide and seek with all my friends behind the trees. But there was one tree I can never forget it
was a big guayacan tree that grew on a little hill. It was a very old tree and I loved how it blossomed
yellow flowers. Whenever the wind blew, its beautiful golden petals fell as if they were snow. I would
always run as fast as I could before the last petal falls, I loved being covered with them. I loved it so
much that I would sometimes even fall asleep feeling the yellow blanket under the warmth of sunshine
beneath the peaceful skies. I dreamt of climbing the tree all the way up the skies, reaching for the
clouds. Naive and carefree; my childhood this was my home.
When it was time for harvest, I would always run around the rice fields watching all the farmers cut

Should The Driving Age Be Raised To 18
On a daily basis, millions of teenagers around the United States use driving as their main source of
transportation. Many teens are interested in being able to drive at a younger age, even after obtaining a
driving permit, but it is unclear if they are able to handle such a monumental task. The driver s license
age requirement should be increased to the age of 18. Increasing the age requirement might not benefit
the teens that need reliable transportation to go to their workplace and support their family and
themselves financially, but some argue that earning income at such a young age is too much trouble

According to TIME magazine, there have been cases where teenagers have caused traffic accidents
due to having road rage. This shows how teenagers have little control over their emotions while
driving which could cause accidents or lead to someone s death. In Fairfax High School, there are
many students who would fall asleep in class because they go to bed very late at night. This states how
students cannot manage their time wisely that can lead to their academic failure. In a recent poll by
Washington Post, 15% of teens are arrested for drinking and driving after partying at a friend s house.
This shows how teens are immature behind the wheel and don t consider about the safety of
themselves and the others around them when doing foolish acts. Obviously, the State of Virginia must
change the driving age to 18 because teenagers lack the make proper decisions behind the

Vape Essay
51VAPE: THE BEAST IN THE EAST (Revision July 17, 2015) Before Hip Hop became the
phenomenal mainstream success it is today, it was born struggling on the streets of New York.
Pioneers like DJ Kool Herc and Coke La Rock laid down the foundations, and then crews like
Grandmaster Flash the Furious Five, The Sugar Hill Gang, Afrika Bambaataa and Universal Zulu
Nation came along to cement the culture. They organized block parties, had emcee and break dancing
battles, sold mix tapes out of the trunks of their cars. They d hustle anything they could to make it big
on the cold mean streets. You had to be tough, you had to be bold, and you had to risk everything in
order to gain anything. The struggle continues the hustle never stops. Today, the Vaping culture faces
similar challenges that early Hip Hop did in the past. No one knows this more than David Le, the
owner of 51Vape, the first and best Vape Shop in Albany, Upstate New York. I literally started [my
company] with a duffle bag, and my truck, he says recalling his humble beginnings in the industry. ...I
wasn t making much due to gas prices, but I was passionate about vaping and I knew it would be
something special... a movement . It was this passionate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He forged his mentality on the streets. The streets demand that you have to be tough, you have to be

consideration, I took my life savings and my wife s life savings [to] venture out of my comfort zone,
and find a shop, he recalls, ...there were days that I would only see 1 2 customers for months! But I
knew vaping was a completely new thing [here]. I would have to tough it out... and it started to pay
off. From then on, David earned more business, he began to hire employees, and then, he opened a
second shop that was a huge success. Now the sky s the limit to where he can take

Correlation Between Efficacy And Efficacy Of Vascular...
Recently, several studies reported that SP TFESI is a safer alternative to the conventional SA
approach, because of the risk of vascular complications [20]. This study aimed to investigate the
contrast spreading pattern and its correlation with efficacy for SP TFESI. Contrast was examined for
the spread to both the ventral and dorsal epidural spaces, and in cephalic and caudal directions.
Clinical efficacy was significantly correlated with the cephalic spreading pattern. These results
indicate that the spreading of injectate could be one of the factors determining the clinical efficacy in
SP TFESI. Several previous studies reported conflicting results for differences in clinical efficacy
between SA and SP TFESI. [5,15]. Desai et al. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Vassiliev et al. reported preferential spread of contrast onto the medially located nerve roots
(lower level of nerve root) [17,23]. Furman et al. observed an equivalent extent of spread in both the
directions in the presence of 1 mL of contrast [19]. In this study, the contrast medium spread to a
similar degree on our grading system in both the cephalic and caudal directions.
The vertical contrast spread pattern analysis showed a significant correlation between the cephalad
spreading and clinical efficacy in the ventral expansion group. As mentioned above, Desai et al.
confirmed that the more level of vertebra covered by the contrast would lead to a better clinical effect
[15]. More amount of medication passed into the epidural space would eventually lead to increased
flow of medication into the adjacent nerve roots as well as the nerve root of target level. In
concordance to this, we assume that the positive correlation between the vertical contrast extent and
therapeutic effect is a reasonable phenomenon.
In this study, since most patients who underwent L4 5 TFESI were thought to have L5 radiculopathy,
the therapeutic effects might not be the direct results of TFESI on the L4 nerve root. In these cases,
more medial spread of medication might lead to more successful reduction of the L5 root symptoms,
because the L5 root is located medial to the L4 root at L4 5 level. According to Vassiliev s study [17],

The short half life of this isotope means that radiation levels reduce quickly. High density shielding
material should be used when storing F 18 but this is impractical when handling the material. The
predominant radiation emitted is gamma rays. Therefore, field contamination monitors should use
sensitive gamma detectors.

Lead compound for development of high affinity inhibitors
b.Preliminary modification of the lead compound revealed that the introduction of an electron
withdrawing substituent and hydrogen bond acceptor such as NO2 or CF3 at the 3 position of the
phenyl ring or an electron donating substituent such as OR or COOH at the 4 position led to an
increase of the inhibitory activity. Attempts to replace the nitro group with other electron withdrawing
substituents at the 3 position resulted in identification of the cyano group as the best substituent
among other substituents examined. The final structure proposed was found to be febuxustat with high
inhibitory activity.
c.The` CN group of febuxostat is necessary for potent enzyme inhibitory activity. When the 3 cyano
moiety of febuxostat is replaced by hydrogen, the binding affinity was significantly decreased .
d.When the cyano group of the inhibitor was substituted with a nitro ligand, which is also capable of
accepting a hydrogen bond, the resulting derivative showed a binding affinity very similar to that of

Advantages Of Measuring Body Fat
A common goal for anyone who goes for the first time in a gym is to give body fat a proper send off.
Body fat is the fat that you can see in the mirror. Once you get rid of unwanted fat, you will be able to
see more cuts . On the other hand, the higher it is, the more fat is covering your muscles. Therefore, if
you want to see more cuts , you need to shrink the layer of fat which is under your skin and covers
your muscles.
How can you determine the body fat percentage?
One of the most accurate and efficient way to determine this aspect is with a caliper. These products
are designed to clip the fat and measure it under the skin. There are multiple pinch tests, but it s
recommended to use a four or seven point caliper test. Whatever method you are going to use, the key
element is consistency. It s important to be as consistent as possible when taking the measurements. In
short words, you have to take them under the same conditions. For example, it s advisable to do them
in the morning after using the restroom, because this will eliminate any discrepancies with fluctuation
throughout the day. Additionally, you can also use other methods for measuring body fat percentage,

about the opposite. Too low fat can affect our health? Even though you may not like the idea, this fat

example, hormones regulate appetite and control the body weight. Plus, they also regulate insulin
sensitivity. Furthermore, it s important to know that fat keep yus warm and it acts as a layer of cushion

Meursault And Sisyphus Research Paper
Camus says One must imagine Sisyphus happy. Camus implies we cannot choose to imagine him
otherwise. After all, to imagine him unhappy would debunk Camus s entire theory that accepting the
absurdity brings happiness. this raises the question of what it means to be happy and how we
determine what truly matters. We tend to experience happiness when we are with friends or family.
feelings of immense joy can be experienced when we do things we love and do often such as playing
sports or doing something we have never done before such as going on a trip to a place we have never
seen before. This happiness is what gives our lives meaning and what constitutes a good life

In the grand scheme of things we mean absolutely nothing and will impact nothing. Though this may
be true to ourselves and to our loved ones our lives are the very opposite of insignificant. Marcel
justifies his killing the Arab man by saying that it did not matter because nothing does and that his
actions will not make an impact. This act would have no cosmic significance after all people are killed
every day, however, we know the man has a sister and that he had companions who were with him at
the beach Meursault inadvertently changed the lives of these people forever and not only theirs but
also Marie s who could not accept Meursault s demise as he had come to. Meursault and Sisyphus
accept their fate and abandoned hope because there truly is no way to escape from their circumstances.
They had no other option than to do this because of the great pain their positions caused them. By
accepting the absurdity the two may have been given a sense of relief and peace perhaps but not
happiness. Camus states in the myth of Sisyphus that we can either take a leap of faith and choose to
believe in God to find meaning, end our lives or accept the

The Literary And Artistic Romanticism Movement
John Constable was a 18th and 19th century English artist whose work has coincided with the literary
and artistic Romanticism movement. His works included many painting and sketches of the natural
world and environment which was one of the hallmarks of Romantic works. A lot of his work did not
cover the theme of ruins until later in his life and especially after the death of his wife. His oil on
canvas painting, Hadleigh Castle, The Mouth of the Thames Morning after a Stormy Night depicts the
ruins of a medieval stronghold known by the same name of Hadleigh Castle after a storm has ravaged
the area over night. However, it is important to note the context in which this work was created in. In
1828, Constable s wife had passed away and this led to a shift in his own artistic work. In addition,
Constable had also been inducted into the Royal Academy but he was criticized and scrutinized by the
president of the organization which also led to a change in Constable s style and themes. The setting
of the artwork is very gloomy and somber and this has a lot to do with these events that had taken
place in his life during the creation of the piece. Yet, despite the depressing emotions the image
initially evokes, there is also this aspect of renewal and resurrection that is created by the artwork. In
an article titled Constable, John, Michael Rosenthal from Oxford University stated, Constable later
though a ruin a suitable symbol for himself, but the iconography of this painting

The Struggle In Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
False Faces
Writing about the 17th century, Nathaniel Hawthorne used the knowledge of his ancestors to depict
influential stories of the Puritan culture and their ideals. Often noting the hypocrisy of Puritanism, his
characters embody the virtues and flaws of the Puritan people. One of his characters, Young Goodman
Brown, experiences a profound disillusionment when he attends the devil s ceremony in the woods of
Salem. During the procession, the devil preaches with a certain superiority, This night it shall be
granted you to know their secret deeds... where crime has been committed, and shall exult to behold
the whole earth one stain of guilt, one mighty blood spot (44). Goodman Brown learns that those
whom he had considered as the models of morality are actually sinners. The devil accentuates the
point that not only these people are sinners, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Young Goodman Brown and The Minister s Black Veil, multiple characters are obsessed with the
sins that others are hiding. The theme of hiding one s faults and flaws remains prevalent in literature
not only pertaining to the Puritans of American history. In Shakespeare s Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and
her husband plot to murder King Duncan. After the crime, Macbeth assumes power and must speak
with Duncan s closest friends in such a way that he will not be accused of the King s assassination.
Conspiring with Lady Macbeth, he says, False face must hide what the false heart doth know (I.vii.92
96). Macbeth must hide the sins of his heart by displaying a facade. Reverend Hooper presents a
facade, however, it is the opposite. Instead of showing a kind face to cover his sins like Macbeth, he
wears a dark veil to cover his typically genial disposition. The false faces of the world are what cause
one to be suspicious and obsess over another s purity. Considering the texts, the obsession with purity
and sin can only result in one s

Immigration And The Issue Of Immigration
My current event is on the issue of Immigration and Refugees that is going on in our society.
Immigrants have been the back bone of what made America great. This country is supposed to be the
land of opportunity. For the people that come here that is all that they hear. Wanting a fresh start from
whatever country they came from. The NASW (2015) said that Immigration has increased rapidly in
the 1990s, with more than 13 million people moved to the United States (p.176). Immigrants and
Refugees is an issue that has been talked about for many years. In 1965 the Immigration and
Nationality Act Amendments provided a sweeping change in immigration law. The national origins
system was abolished and a new set of priorities for admitting immigrants was adopted (NASW, 2015,
p. 176). So Immigration has been a part of our culture, American society, and policy making for a long
time now. It is talked about today even with during our Presidential campaign for 2016. The problems
with Immigrants and Refugees coming to America came to issue when Donald Trump said he would
deport all undocumented immigrants in the United States which is an estimated 11 million people
(Saunt, 2015). In this article the Author Claudio Saunt made it his effort to explain that is a horrible
idea. Saunt (2015) wrote in his article that In the past American cities and countries in the Southwest
and Midwest tried to expel Mexican Americans once before in the 1930s, and it was a traumatic result

Owen Meany s Ambiguity Of Religion
O GOD WHY HASN T MY VOICE CHANGED, WHY DID YOU GIVE ME SUCH A VOICE?
THERE MUST BE A REASON. Then he shut his eyes and said: WATAHANTOWET Irving
establishes his main purpose as one that highlights the ambiguity created by the never ending clash
between the natural and the supernatural, by analyzing the lives of Owen Meany, a pseudo messiah
with firm convictions in spirituality, with regards to his counterpart, John Wheelwright, whose beliefs
are much more ambiguous and skeptical of religion. Most children around the age of eleven or twelve

his dream in Phoenix. Now, for a supernatural being a messiah nonetheless it is hard to believe that
Owen could possibly be fallible about such a critical aspect of his sole purpose in life, however he is,
and that in itself can be viewed as his naturalistic tendencies clashing with his supernaturalistic ones,
and yet again, this results in the ambiguity that Irving has ingrained in each and every part of the

  • 2. Biographia Literaria By Coleridge The composed landmark of Coleridge s basic work is contained in 24 sections of Biographia Literaria (1815 17). In this basic disquisition, Coleridge concerns himself with the act of feedback, as well as, with its hypothesis. In his down to earth way to deal with feedback, we get the look at Coleridge the writer; while in hypothetical exchange, Coleridge the logician went to the center stage. . In Chapter XIV of Biographia Literaria, Coleridge s vision of the nature and capacity of verse in philosophical terms is examined. The writer inside Coleridge talks about the qualification amongst verse and exposition, and the capacity of verse, and the quick capacity of verse, while the logician examines the contrast amongst verse and sonnet. He was the main English essayist to demand that each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This debate with Wordsworth on poetry is well understood in chapter 17 of Biographia Literaria. The chapter is well structured and proves to be a good debater. Coleridge directly does not attack Wordsworth s apparent weakness in the beginning he accepts his fellow oppositions strengths. The ideas of Wordsworth that Rustic Man has exceptional wisdom is critiqued by Coleridge that any man can have this wisdom no matter where he lives city, town or country. Provided, thsu man should have two important virtues of characteristics they are, firstly, the man should not be living in poverty but working hard for as living and the other quality needed for wisdom is knowledge of the Bible or other religious texts. He goes on to argue that neither the country nor nature itself have magical qualities that can confer insight or wisdom. He comments on the wisdom of rustic life of Wordsworth: a man can only gain value if he is educated or both with particular sensitivity to the natural, both attributes are very ... • 3. Baby Boom Attachment Theory In late 1987, the movie Baby Boom was released in the United States. This was a film that depicted the life of J.C Wiatt, played by Diane Keaton; a driven business woman with nothing to tie her down or get in her way. She was proud to be free of any of life s burdens, such as children or marriage. She had a man in her life, but he was just as driven as she was, both happy to live their lives together but separately at the same time. As the film opens, we see J.C. walking confidently down the city street, she had purpose, she had direction and nothing was going to stop her or get in her way, just like the other women who made up 53% of the workforce. Then she received one phone call that had the potential to, and ultimately did, change her life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Women were fighting to get and hold the top offices in business, and break away from the stereotype that said their place was in the home. J.C. too had proven she had made that stand for herself, and was out performing the men around her. She knew she had walked away from the other side , but she was okay with her choice. During the film her boss, as well as Steven, try to explain to her what she is giving up as she comes to key decision making turns in the road. In an article by Anne Marie Slaughter, president of New America foundation, shares that yes women do feel they must sacrifice either their career and/or their family and cannot have it all (Slaughter web). She goes on to share that, how we as Americans value a mother s time at home versus her time in the workplace is changing. Sadly, still in 2016, some mothers feel they still have to make that choice. If a woman wants to go out and be the main provider, or hold an equal role of her husband, there should be a way to make it work. In some homes, the families have found a plan that works, with shared schedules by the man and the woman. Others have close family members that help to care for the young children, or the children are placed in daycare or afterschool care. The growth of working women/mothers had grown ... • 4. The Battle Of Inter State War Bull defines war as organized violence carried on by political units against each other (184). With respect to this broad definition, both he and Waltz posit models of conflict which can effectively be used to analyze the sources of modern violence. The warrior scholars employ the theories of multiple political philosophers including Kant and Rousseau in order to build theories that encapsulate the complex variables which lead to armed engagement. These theories can be extrapolated in order to explain the causes of inter state war, and to provide explanations of violence in the modern global theatre. Overall, Waltz s argument of the three images is extremely persuasive. The logical underpinnings of the models and the ways in which they collaborate are, for the most part, concrete and well thought out. His theory provides for three basic ideas through which the origins of all conflict can be distilled. First, Waltz (1959) provides that thinkers such as Spinoza place the responsibility of violence at the feet of human imperfection and lack of reason. Secondly, he postulates that domestic policy of a state will lead to conflict (Waltz 1959). Finally, the theorist channels Rousseau s The Social Contract to explain warfare as a symptom of international relations (Waltz 1959). The ways in which these three ideas correlate are what make Waltz s explanation so compelling. The first two of these images, the man and the state, explain how a country behaves internally. The ... • 6. A Career As A Spanish Language Teacher When I was younger I observed and experienced the Spanish culture and found such interest in expanding my education to later on pursue the career of a Spanish Language Teacher. After researching the responsibilities, the work conditions, salary, the outlook, and future; a career as a spanish language teacher would be interesting, and the perfect training would be at St. Mary s University at San Antonio. Tasks and responsibilities for this career are all very different and must be done on a daily basis when getting the students to comprehend and understand the new teachings. Foreign Language Teachers must make sure to interpret the terminology and translate it into the student s natural language to help them understand better in their learning. They must also provide instruction in the literature and also in the history of the culture so that the students will be learning correctly. Professors should also tests students frequently to see their progress so that they know exactly where they re at. These tests and other activities will show the teacher if the students understand to read, write, and most importantly the overall understanding in the dialect. • 7. The Impact Of Technology On The Music Industry Essay Technology has brought many advantageous opportunities to the music industry in the area of production and distribution. Besides popular and valuable instruments such as the electric guitar and the synthesizer, technology has brought us new production equipment such as high fidelity microphones, re mastering equipment and CD ROMs that provide us with a crystal clear sound of the recording. The development of these equipment has allowed the audience to experience a higher quality of sound coming from both live concerts and recordings. Easiness of transportation that came along with the technological developments in the sector, has allowed the record labels to distribute music all around the world. During the 1950s turbojet engines were cleared for civilian use, and with new civil jet engine cargo aircraft distribution of almost any item became easier and faster than ever before. The evolution of the computer and the Internet was also a great distribution advantage for the music industry and should not be underestimated. New sound formats, such as the MP3, have made music distribution easier. Companies could now provide selling licenses to companies that would allow users to download certain songs from the Internet at a very high speed. The music industry also got many opportunities for advertisements since they were now not limited to billboards, TV and radio. Many companies can now promote their records by playing a preview for the user, on certain websites. Recording ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on American Indians amp;#8220; amp;#8217;Indians amp;#8217;: Textualism, Morality, and the Problem of History ;, an essay written by Jane Tompkins, a professor of English at Duke University, outlines Tompkins dissatisfaction on how American Indians are portrayed throughout history. As children, we are taught that in amp;#8220;1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue ;, and that Peter Minuet bought all of Manhattan Island from the Indians for only twenty four dollars worth of trinkets. In high school, we were taught that in World War II, the Germans were all heartless savages, and that the best course of action to end the war was to use the atomic bomb on Japan. Tompkins began her research of the misrepresentation of American Indians with Perry Miller amp;#8217;s book Errand into the Wilderness. In his book, Miller writes, amp;#8220;the massive narrative of the movement of European culture into the vacant wilderness of America. ; This passage from Miller amp;#8217;s book provokes a shocking response from Tompkins. Tompkins is shocked that Miller referred to America amp;#8217;s wilderness as amp;#8220;vacant. ; It is obvious that upon the arrival of European settlers to America, the settlers encountered the Indians at some point in time. Thus, America amp;#8217;s wilderness wasn amp;#8217;t amp;#8220;vacant. ; Miller fails to observe the presence of the Indians. From his own personal experiences with the vast wilderness in Africa, Miller correlates that experience to the experiences that the settlers must have had when they arrived in America. It is clear that Miller amp;#8217;s own experiences have clouded his ability to give an unbiased and totally truthful account of history. amp;#8220; amp;#8230; What is invisible to the historian in his own historical moment remains invisible when he turns his gaze to the past, ; (Tompkins, 412). Dorothy and her family lived in a very petite, four walled house in the core of the Kansas prairie. Inside the house, they had a very small hole in the ground that serve as a cyclone cellar . Whenever Dorothy set foot outside the house, all she would notice is how gray and dull everything would look; including her aunt Em. She who once was a young and pretty wife , was now thin and gaunt and never smiled and her uncle Henry was exact same way. The only source of content that Dorothy had came from her dog, Toto. She promised to marry him if he would work hard enough to built a better house for her, but the old lady she lived with was lazy and did not want her to marry and then leave her. So the old woman decided to go to the Wicked Witch of the East, and stop them from being together. The Witch man casted a spell on the Tin Woodman s ax and chopped off his limbs one by one, but every time he would replace them with limbs of tin. Nevertheless, the ax ended up splitting him in half, he then, was no longer made of flesh nor had a heart. He then realized, he no longer loved or cared the Munchkin girl. And then, one day while axing some trees, he forgot to bring his oil can and got caught up in a rainstorm, which made his joints rust. While standing there for over a year, he reminisce on how happy he once was when he still had a heart. • 11. Machiavellian Folly in The Prince Essay Machiavellian Folly in The Prince In the annals of history, many individuals have contributed great works of literature, waxing philosophically on the meaning of life, death, and love. Niccolo Machiavelli wrote not on love or life, but on power: How to capture it, how to consolidate it, and how to defend it against all comers. His work has been talked about and dissected to the extent that his subject matter and methods have earned their own moniker: Machiavellian. Nonetheless, this great philosopher s works did not meet with unanimous approval. His own student, Thomas Hobbes, presented a very different account of politics. This essay offers a Hobbesian critique of some of Machiavelli s arguments, focusing in and around ... He writes in The Prince: For one can say this generally of men: that they are ungrateful, fickle, pretenders and dissemblers, evaders of danger, eager for gain.3 Clearly, Machiavelli argues that man is precarious a being of dubious morals and selfish desires. Hobbes agreed with this analysis, and took it one step further. According to Hobbes, all mankind has a restless and perpetual desire for power, which ceaseth only with death 4. Moreover, man can never be satisfied with the power he has. Hobbes writes: ... [man] cannot assure the power and the means to live well, which he hath present, without the acquisition of more [power]. Man s first need is to provide security for himself. Past experience and reason dictate that he will do this by any means necessary even if it means killing everyone around him. Critics argue that Hobbes and Machiavelli are too pessimistic; but they would both beg to differ. To both Hobbes and Machiavelli, Aristotelian virtue is a deception; it can never be reached. Men do not want to be good; they want to lie, they want to cheat, and they want to kill. To expect otherwise would be contrary to their hostile nature. Like many within its genre, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm s version of the fairy tale Rumpelstiltskin, attempts to propagate strong moral lessons towards a youthful demographic. Many years ago, this concept held true to me, in which, with little contradiction, I was able to draw the three aforementioned conclusions from the classic fable. Recently, however, upon revisitation of the text, certain elements within the Grimm brother s tale evoked a strongly oppositional reading from me. Where I once accepted the author s words with minimal hesitation, I now found myself strongly resenting the good character, unexpectedly empathising with the once ... Alas, with the ability to spin straw into gold, the ring and necklace offered by the soon to be queen were of little worth to Rumpelstiltskin from the very beginning, yet still, in her time of need, he assisted her like a true gentleman. In fact, in exchange for his valuable services, he only ever asks for something truly precious, her child, when she no longer faces the threat of death. Evil? I think not. Rather, perhaps Rumpelstiltskin was simply lonely and in desire of the love and attention of a human companion...And for this, he died? As such, with this initial contradiction, I was prompted to re read the text once more with even greater opposition, the seemingly pure and good willed Miller s daughter now falling into the path of my oppositional frenzy. She was, I noticed during my second reading now, in direct contradiction with my 21st century view of women , acting as a shameful and outdated representation of females in general. Surely, rather than simply contradicting her father at the beginning, or telling the king the truth later, she responds submissively and fearfully to their actions and commands, as though she is incapable of anything herself, relying on others (Rumpelstiltskin) instead to rectify her situation. This damsel in distress representation although easily accepted in my innocence as a child is one that I found exceedingly unpalatable now. At this point in the disease, Laura s symptoms are expressed through her slurred speech, muscle weakness, and inability to walk. However, she is still somewhat mobile and able to stand with support. When the video shows Laura speaking, the lack of movement in her facial muscles is displayed. This severely impacts the intelligibility of her speech. Despite the major debilitations this disease has caused, she continues to live her life to the fullest by coaching CrossFit and remaining as active as possible. The video shows her coaching CrossFit while in her wheel chair, exercising by lifting an unweighted bar, and also attending her daughter s wedding and dancing with her. The video also includes her husband, who talks about the impact of her disease. Despite the history of ALS in Laura s family, he mentions the irony that someone so active and physically fit can become debilitated by this disease. It s a reminder of how unexpected and sudden ALS can be. Most inspiring, her husband talks about his wife s acceptance of her illness and Laura talks about how she keeps a smile on her face. The United States got into a war that they had no clue on how to win. The Vietnam War was a long, costly armed conflict that pitted the communist regime of North Vietnam and its southern allies, known as the Viet Cong, against South Vietnam and its principal ally, the United States. The divisive war, increasingly unpopular at home, ended with the withdrawal of U.S. forces in 1973 and the unification of Vietnam under Communist control two years later. More than 3 million people, including 58,000 Americans, were killed in the conflict. The South Vietnam government was not communist like its counterpart to the north, and all they wanted was peace amongst the North. The leader of the north was Ho Chi Minh, a communist leader that wanted absolute power. Ho Chi Minh actually worked in the United States as a baker. He sheds light on this by citing post Durkheim theories which he does not agree with and which do not solve the problem of this dual nature. Durkheim also uses The Elementary Forms of the Religious Life (EFRL) to discuss the religious aspect of the body and soul. To look at it another way, individuals use signs and symbols to interpret and/or explain their feelings. If the group all uses the same signs and symbols, it then becomes the symbol or representation of the group s sacredness. • 24. The Communist Manifesto By Karl Marx And Friedrich Engels The Communist Manifesto was written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels to begin explaining Communism and its goals. The Manifesto suggests that history acts according to what is called class struggle. The means of production are what truly defines the class relationships according to Marx and Engels (Marx 2002). Inevitably, the classes conflict and become hostile, no longer moving fluidly (Spalding 2000). The Manifesto states that this conflict becomes so severe that it eventually becomes a revolution and one of the classes becomes the ruler of the other, keeping one oppressed while the other flourishes. These two classes by name are the bourgeoisie and the proletariat (Marx ch.2 2002). The bourgeoisie being the highly upper class and the proletariat being everyone else or the working class . It is important to note that Karl Marx was a member of the bourgeoisie himself. He had the ability to recognize the partiality given to the upper class and the repercussions of this act (Marx 2002). According to this manifesto, the dynamic between the two has shaped the way society has industry where its values originate. Before this, it was traditionally so that society was organized into more complex hierarchies (Spalding 2000). The U.S. Department of Health Human Services reports, an average of 18 people die each day waiting for transplants that can t take place because of the shortage of donated organs (U.S. Department of Health Human Services, 2013). An article in The Penn Center guide to bioethics states, One of these is a child or a baby. These deaths are especially tragic because many of them could be prevented if there were more organs available (Caplan, 2009). It must remain a frightening matter to realize that one s days are numbered and devoid of a transplant one will have to leave behind loved ones, incomplete business, and unpaid bills for others to acquire. Frustration and anger must attack the hearts of those helplessly watching as loved ones watch their spouses, children, parents, and friends start to fade away. As their hope dwindles and desperation turns into anger at the realization that death is preventable, many turn to alternative methods to obtain much needed organs. Therefore, while laws insist that altruism is the only way one is to obtain an organ a black market for organs has manifested itself. The black market ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Home Descriptive Essay My definition for home indescribable by words or by a simple thought, but home is rather of a feeling. Home is the calmness and serenity that settles over me like a blanket on a cold snowy night, just a silent assurance telling me I belong there. It took me quite a bit of time to understand where exactly that place is, and I didn t know that the answer was always right in front of me. This feeling would come and go, and I would never recognize it because I knew that only the house I lived in was my home. Home is in fact more than what the words in the dictionary say. When I was younger, I lived in the Philippines, my backyard were the rice fields and I would always play hide and seek with all my friends behind the trees. But there was one tree I can never forget it was a big guayacan tree that grew on a little hill. It was a very old tree and I loved how it blossomed yellow flowers. Whenever the wind blew, its beautiful golden petals fell as if they were snow. I would always run as fast as I could before the last petal falls, I loved being covered with them. I loved it so much that I would sometimes even fall asleep feeling the yellow blanket under the warmth of sunshine beneath the peaceful skies. I dreamt of climbing the tree all the way up the skies, reaching for the clouds. Naive and carefree; my childhood this was my home. As time went by, more and more English men came to North America and didn t need any help from the Natives as much as the original Pilgrims did. • 41. Correlation Between Efficacy And Efficacy Of Vascular... Recently, several studies reported that SP TFESI is a safer alternative to the conventional SA approach, because of the risk of vascular complications [20]. This study aimed to investigate the contrast spreading pattern and its correlation with efficacy for SP TFESI. Contrast was examined for the spread to both the ventral and dorsal epidural spaces, and in cephalic and caudal directions. Clinical efficacy was significantly correlated with the cephalic spreading pattern. These results indicate that the spreading of injectate could be one of the factors determining the clinical efficacy in SP TFESI. Several previous studies reported conflicting results for differences in clinical efficacy between SA and SP TFESI. [5,15]. Desai et al. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Vassiliev et al. reported preferential spread of contrast onto the medially located nerve roots (lower level of nerve root) [17,23]. Furman et al. observed an equivalent extent of spread in both the directions in the presence of 1 mL of contrast [19]. In this study, the contrast medium spread to a similar degree on our grading system in both the cephalic and caudal directions. The vertical contrast spread pattern analysis showed a significant correlation between the cephalad spreading and clinical efficacy in the ventral expansion group. As mentioned above, Desai et al. confirmed that the more level of vertebra covered by the contrast would lead to a better clinical effect [15]. More amount of medication passed into the epidural space would eventually lead to increased flow of medication into the adjacent nerve roots as well as the nerve root of target level. In concordance to this, we assume that the positive correlation between the vertical contrast extent and therapeutic effect is a reasonable phenomenon. In this study, since most patients who underwent L4 5 TFESI were thought to have L5 radiculopathy, the therapeutic effects might not be the direct results of TFESI on the L4 nerve root. In these cases, more medial spread of medication might lead to more successful reduction of the L5 root symptoms, because the L5 root is located medial to the L4 root at L4 5 level. • 46. The Literary And Artistic Romanticism Movement John Constable was a 18th and 19th century English artist whose work has coincided with the literary and artistic Romanticism movement. His works included many painting and sketches of the natural world and environment which was one of the hallmarks of Romantic works. A lot of his work did not cover the theme of ruins until later in his life and especially after the death of his wife. His oil on canvas painting, Hadleigh Castle, The Mouth of the Thames Morning after a Stormy Night depicts the ruins of a medieval stronghold known by the same name of Hadleigh Castle after a storm has ravaged the area over night. However, it is important to note the context in which this work was created in. In 1828, Constable s wife had passed away and this led to a shift in his own artistic work. In addition, Constable had also been inducted into the Royal Academy but he was criticized and scrutinized by the president of the organization which also led to a change in Constable s style and themes. The setting of the artwork is very gloomy and somber and this has a lot to do with these events that had taken place in his life during the creation of the piece. Immigrants have been the back bone of what made America great. This country is supposed to be the land of opportunity. For the people that come here that is all that they hear. Wanting a fresh start from whatever country they came from. The NASW (2015) said that Immigration has increased rapidly in the 1990s, with more than 13 million people moved to the United States (p.176). Immigrants and Refugees is an issue that has been talked about for many years. In 1965 the Immigration and Nationality Act Amendments provided a sweeping change in immigration law. The national origins system was abolished and a new set of priorities for admitting immigrants was adopted (NASW, 2015, p. 176). So Immigration has been a part of our culture, American society, and policy making for a long time now. It is talked about today even with during our Presidential campaign for 2016.
