A Report On Life Savers

Life Savers
According to the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute, Fire departments in the United States
respond to 1.8 million fires each year or about four fires every minute. Annually, more than 5,000
Americans are killed and 100,000 are injured as a result of fires, and annual property loss due to fires
has been estimated to be as high as $10 billion (Smith et al.1). Which means there are many
firefighters risking their lives to save others . They know the risks but love doing it. Today, most
firefighters are provided with a full encapsulated ensemble that incorporates technological
advancements in thermal protection, breathability, chemical resistance and reflectivity (Tutterow).
PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) protects firefighters from almost anything presented on a fire
scene yet, still is not enough to lower the rates of deaths and injuries in the fire service. Firefighter
PPE needs to reduce deaths and injuries and continue advancements in technology, all while
maintaining a reasonable cost. If the United States continues to make advancements in PPE
technology it will decrease the number of fatalities and injuries. Many buildings burned down because
of firefighters were limited to external fighting measures only wearing wool coats, rubber boots,
gloves, and leather helmets. In the History of Firefighter Personal Protective Equipment by Paul
Hasenmeier claims:
In the 1600 s, firefighters had to

enouctnored ticks at some point are another. Tick bites, are generally harmless in the sense that they
may not produce any noticeable symptoms. However, in some cases tick bites can prove to be
extremly detrimental or deadly.
How Can You Recognize A Tick Bite?
In general, ticks prefer the warm and moist areas of the body. Once they get on a human s body, they
generallyt migrate to the groin, hair or armpits. Once thay have located a desirable spote, they will bite
into the skin of that area and begin to draw blood. The problem with this is that, unlike other insects
that bite, ticks commonly remained attached to the body after they bite into ... Show more content on

You can choose to remove the tick yourself by utilzing a tick removal device, or you can simply use a
set of tweezers. In order for you to do this, grasp the tick at the point where it s closest to the skin s
surface and pull away from the skin. However as you do this, ensure that you do not twist or bend the
tick. Once you have removed the tick, check the bite area to see if if the tick s head or mouthparts
remain in said area. If so, ensure that you remove these as well. Afterwhich, use some rubbing

Designing The Costume For The Tin Man
1. Imagine you are designing the costume for the Tin Man. What advantages and disadvantages does
the costume in the film have? (Consider aspects such as mobility, realism, artistic intent, and so on.)
Would you make any changes to the costume for a theater production? Why or why not? If i were to
design a costume for the tin man, some advantages would be price, and portability, but some of the
disadvantaged would be the way it may reflect light and also if it s comfortable for the one who wears
it.
2. In the scene where Dorothy says goodbye to Oz (time code 1:37:38), what is the mood of the scene?
How does the filmmaker achieve this mood? The mood of the scene was very depressing because of
how she accomplished so much and then she had to return back home to her family. The way that they
have the success was to make everyone look sad and silent, even the expression of tears put out more

The Violation Of Human Rights Equality
Imagine being in another persons shoes that may not have it as easy as others. Some people do not get
the same respect as others just because of the way they look. This is an example of a human rights
violation. An human right violation is when a right is being abused in such a way that it effects how
some people live their life. It is hard to even think about that this is going on in American today. It is a
big problem in today s society, and many are speaking out about it. This human rights violation is the
result of racial inequality in America, and many are trying to stop it by protesting, starting movements,
and kneeling of the national anthem.
Many people have freedom, which comes with rights. Some important rights in the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights that relate to Racial inequality are articles two and three. Article two
states, Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedom set forth in this declaration, without
distinction of any kind, such as race... (Library). This shows that everyone of any color has the same
rights as others. This human right is being violated because many people of color are not being treated
equally. Another human rights article that is being violated is article three. This human right is being
violated because [e]veryone has the right to life, liberty, and security of person, but people of other
races are not treated like they have these rights (Library). People of color are starting to stand up to
others who treat them

Band Session At The Baked Potato
This concert report will go into great detail regarding the performance that I witnessed, as well as the
genre of Jazz that was played, the artist, and the techniques that were used. I will start with my
personal experience of the concert that I attended. This will focus on the details of the performance, as
well as my mindset before and after the show. Next, this paper will research the origins of the genre of
Jazz that was played, which is Funk and has been supported by several scholarly sources. Then I will
look at the origin of the Jam Session. Finally I will then end with information regarding the
performers themselves as well as the history of the venue.
For my concert report I went with the members of my group presentation to the weekly jam session at
The Baked Potato, located in studio city. We just got done with a long night of studying, it was late, a
Monday, and I was tired. This was the first Jazz show that I have ever been to and I didn t know what
to expect. I had zero expectations going into this and in the end I m glad I didn t. When we arrived I
was immediately surprised at how small the venue was. There was maybe a little more than thirty
people in totally and it was a packed house. We took our seats right next to the stage, sitting directly in
front of the bassist and lead guitar player. As we ordered our two drink minimum and a couple of
baked potatoes to share, I watched as the rest of the band started to step on stage. Some seemed to

Floyd Cover Art
On March 1, 1973, Pink Floyd released what some consider their best and most famous album, The
Dark Side of the Moon. The album holds the record for time spent on the Billboard Top 200 albums
with a total of 861 non successive weeks, (Billboard) and included prominent songs such as Time,
Money, and The Great Gig in the Sky. It is characterized by the cover, which shows a prism separating
a stand of light into a rainbow over a black background. When the album was released, the image s
success impacted it by gaining the attention and support of a broader audience. In the recent year of
2011, the album cover proved itself once more when it was ranked the number two album cover of all
time by the readers of Rolling Stone. (Greene) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This desire for change is symbolized by the cover art. The album draws attention to issues within the
world that make it a worse, more problematic place. This state of the world is represented by white
light. The light suggest that people are pure in thought, and naïve: they don t know about the problems
of the world. Humans need a catalyst to start a revolution so they can move away from obsessions
with money, the pain of war and ignoring poverty. That catalyst is represented by the prism. Change
could happen if people would use their time wisely and work for it. Artist like Pink Floyd and the
attitude of the youth that bought their albums in the 1970s could act as catalyst for change. This
changed, informed world is represented by the rainbow. Multiple colors and hue are represented,
meaning that people are aware of issues within the world. This knowledge has not harmed the human
race though, it has turned it into something beautiful. The complete image shows a change from a
blind society to one that is aware of difficulties and able to fix them using thoughts, ideas and

Black Loyalist Reflection Ideas
Reflection on the Presentation Indicate what you have learned. Going into this project, I had very little
knowledge about the Black Loyalists of Nova Scotia and knew nothing about their exodus to Africa.
From past school projects, I knew that many Loyalists fled to the Maritimes following the American
Revolutionary War. I had also previously learnt that some Loyalists were freed African American
slaves, however I never realised how incredible their story was. Through this project, I learnt about the
Black Loyalists struggles for freedom and acceptance, the hostile treatment that they endured from
both the British government and their fellow Nova Scotians and their eventual exodus to Sierra Leone.
Unlike other assignments, I was motivated not by marks to do it, but by my own curiosity and interest

The Strategies of Globalization and Regionalization
Globalization and Regionalization: As a concept that has become common since the 1990s,
globalization is described as the technological, economic, cultural, ideological, and economic changes
across borders. It can also be regarded as the transformation of the global economy through the
anarchy of financial markets or a technological revolution with social impacts. In contrast,
regionalization is the growth of societal integration within a specific area that incorporates all the
undirected procedures of economic and social interactions among the units in the region. Since these
concepts are different in nature, they contain various strategies that are only effective in specific
situations.
Strategies of Globalization and Regionalization: The concept of globalization has become a prevalent
phenomenon in the past two decades because of the changes it has brought and the adoption of its
strategies by multinational corporations or companies. The economic changes of globalization include
the strengthening of economic inter dependence, internationalization of production, and enhanced
mobility of transnational corporations. On the other hand, trade liberalization, privatization, and
deregulation are the ideological changes emanating from this concept. Kacowicz (1998) states that the
technological changes include information and communication revolutions that have minimized the
world while the trends towards a universal world culture and synchronization of standards are

Psychopathy And The Physiological Etiology Of Psychopathy
Psychopathy is a topic that receives more than its fair share of attention in the media. The very
concept of psychopathy simultaneously fascinates and terrifies people as they attempt to understand
the motivation of people who they deem to be very different than themselves. However, people rarely
stop to consider the physiological differences in individuals with psychopathy, focusing instead on
outward displays of sensational aggression. In order to assess the physiological components of
psychopathy, it is necessary to consider theories on the physiological etiology of psychopathy, the
ways in which the prefrontal cortex and amygdala work together to enhance psychopathic
symptomology, and the ways in which lesions on the prefrontal cortex ... Show more content on

Much like the University of Pennsylvania study, results indicated that reduced functioning in parts of
the brain involved in moral decision making and the expression of emotion may help to explain
psychopathy (Glenn et al, 2009; Marsh et al., 2011). Another theory of the physiological etiology of
psychopathy focuses on the role of serotonergic functionality. As serotonin functions to maintain
mood balance, deficits in the functionality of serotonin have the potential to be hugely detrimental. A
study published in Motivation and Emotion analyzed the role of serotonin in high levels of aggression,
a key component of the expression of psychopathy. Researchers also proposed a connection between
high levels of testosterone and low levels serotonin working together to increase both aggression and
impulsivity (Montoya et al., 2012). These findings complement those in a study conducted by
researchers at Radboud University, which consisted of a between groups comparison between
psychopathy and sociopathy in terms of dysfunction in emotional processing, HPA axis functioning,
and serotonergic profiles, as well as polymorphisms in serotonergic genes and behavioral
endophenotypes (Yildirim Derksen, 2013). Yildirim and Derksen found that issues

Bilingualism
What does it mean to be bilingual? Is it as simple as having the ability to speak two languages? Or
does it have a deeper meaning? Martin Espada and Richard Rodriguez have opposite views on the
concept of bilingualism. Espada feels Latinos have the right to speak Spanish anywhere, considering
language is intertwined with identity. Conversely, Rodriguez believes that to truly understand a
language, you must forget the language that is already known to feel accepted in society. These ideas,
similar to mine are not as simple as speaking two languages. To me the idea of bilingualism is
respecting the two languages that are spoken by having the courage to speak them anywhere, at
anytime. According to Martin Espada the idea of bilingualism is way deeper than just speaking two
languages. Being bilingual to Espada means that both the languages spoken are intertwined with
identity. This claim is constructed in his essay The New Bathroom Policy at English High School. He
informs us of what he has learned about bilingual people in America: I have never met a single person
who didn t want to learn English. What they want to do is retain their language, culture and identity
(Espada 164 167). English is a powerful language in America, the Latinos that reside there feel that
learning English could jeopardize their ability to speak Spanish. Moreover, Espada also uses an
experience he had at META, in which the goal was to stop English from becoming the official
language in

Ordained Ministry Chapter 2 Analysis
After reading Chapter 2 of Pastor: The Theology and Practice of Ordained Ministry by Willimon I
found that there is many ways to minister to people. It is possible to collectively and effectively utilize
a little piece from each area to make it work. The primary thing to realize is that you are not overly
dependent on one area versus another, allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in your ministry.
I see myself as a therapist and a manger as Willimon refers to it in the text. These two classifications
or words appear different when used in ministry. For example, when someone refers to a therapist
what comes to mind? One imagines perhaps someone in an agency with a desk and a couch who
listens to other people s problems or somebody who is guiding a successful business who may also
just be off in an office to themselves. Meanwhile, on the other side of the spectrum, within ministry
the pastor is looked at as more of a healer or mediator for the counselee and the Holy Spirit and as a
person who also multi tasks many other areas of administration. While counseling the pastor is not
worried about worldly issues but is more focused on aiding you in a more spiritual side of healing.

actually points a finger towards humans as being the main cause. This extinction event is known as
The Holocene Extinction, the Sixth Extinction or the Anthropocene Extinction, and whether we like it
or not, there is definitely a considerable amount of evidence to prove that this mass extinction is
happening, and that the cause is largely due to human activity. Specific research indicates that
deforestation, hunting, pollution, the introduction of non native species into various regions,
destruction of vast tracts of land, river systems, and habitats, and the widespread transmission of
infectious diseases spread through livestock and crops are having the most drastic effects on most
species. Current studies even show that the present rate of extinction may be up to 140,000 species per

Genocide In The Film The Devil Came On Horseback
Genocide is rightfully seen as one of the most emotionally heavy words in the English language.
When many people think of genocide, they might correlate the word to the attempted, and nearly
successful, extermination of the Jewish people during World War II. To stand by and watch fellow
human beings killing each other because of their race, religion, sexuality, etc., leads many to conclude
those who stand by are just as guilty as those who commit the act. Unfortunately, horrendous acts are
kept silent from the global eye, as the film The Devil Came on Horseback intends to show us. Anne

The Rewarding Process of Glassblowing
Glassblowing The process of glassblowing can be a long but rewarding process. Many different things
can be made ranging from a simple Christmas ornament, to a work of art. Glassblowers use many
different techniques and tools to aid them in their jobs. Glassblowing is not an easy job, it requires
knowledge in what you re doing and the skill to not harm yourself or others.
Glass has a variety of unique properties. Glass is hard, very brittle, a good insulator, and does not react
to other chemicals easily. In addition to this, glass is considered an amorphous solid. This means that
the molecular structure of glass is mostly random. This is because in the process of making glass,
glass is cooled so quickly that it does not have time to form or create a structure at the molecular level.
This process is known as quenching. There are a variety of tools and equipment used in the
glassblowing process. Three of which consist of three very large furnaces. The first furnace melts the
glass and keeps the glass hot. The melted glass inside the first furnace is referred to as batch. The
furnace keeps the batch at over two thousand one hundred degrees Fahrenheit. The glassblower then
takes a long pipe, about four feet long, and places it inside the furnace. In addition, the glass pipe is
heated to a really hot temperature so that the glass will adhere to the metal rod. If the rod is not heated,
the glass will not stick to the rod. The pipe used to collect the molten glass is called

Importance Of Voting In Democracy
Mandatory voting has been a topic of debate in democratic countries since the creation of democratic
republics themselves. Voting is a crucial part of democracy because it determines who will be the
leaders of both the voters and nonvoters. It is the right of a citizen to vote, but whether or not it is the
responsibility remains disputed. However, voting must be performed with a basic understanding of
policy and what it takes for someone to fit the role which they are running for. Voting should not be
compulsory because it results in more uneducated voting that counteracts the educated voting.
In Democracy, it is left to the citizens to make decisions, instead of a single monarchical leader. Voting
in a Democracy is a responsibility, which is why most countries have age restrictions on it. Voting
requires education. If someone is running for President of a country, education is knowing and
understanding what their general policies are, as well as how they react to stress and criticism. A
relatively small portion of the U.S. citizen population is actually qualified to vote. Qualifications for
this are merely a moderate grasp on the candidate s foreign and domestic approach.
There is no denying that a substantial amount of the general public who are citizens are uneducated in
regards to politics and policies, but only a fraction of them cast their votes on voting day. This is
beneficial to the voting poll because voting is most efficient when it only contains well informed

The Rights Of Gay Rights
Gay Rights has always been a controversial topic. People have fought and argued over this simple
human right for years and now we are finally seeing progress. The Gay Rights Movement started on
1924 by Henry Gerber, founder of The Society for Human Rights, the first documented Gay Rights
organization according to CNN news. From the start homosexuality was considered a sociopathic
personality disturbance which was diagnosed by the American Psychiatric Association in April 1952.
When homosexuality became a hot topic, President Dwight D. Eisenhower singed an executive order
that banned all homosexuals from working for the Federal Government saying they are a security risk.
Which I can see why it was signed, homosexuals are very sassy and can put you in check which the
government wouldn t like. Fast forward to 2005, the state of California was one of the first states to
pass a bill allowing same sex marriage and on June 26, 2015 the Supreme Court ruled that a state
cannot ban same sex marriage which handed the best victory for gay advocates everywhere in
America. Although Gay Rights have come a long way in America there is always room for more
improvement such as discrimination on getting a job or adopting just because of your sexual
orientation.

opportunities. Anti LGBT organizations make it known they do not want them to succeed. One major

Nomenclature Regulations, adopted in 1967, stipulated that Member States use the most current ICD

The codes use alphanumeric characters in all positions, not just the first position as in ICD 9. In
addition, there are 68,000 existing codes in the ICD 10, as opposed to the 13,000 in ICD 9. Therefore,
the codes have been greatly expanded and this expansion allows a significant increase in the
specificity of the reporting in the ICD 10, allowing more information to be conveyed in a code. For
instance if you had a burn on your right arm in did not specify which arm had the burn in the old ICD
9, now in ICD 10 it specifies which arm has the burn. The terminology has been modernized and has
been made consistent throughout the code set. There are codes that are a combination of diagnoses and
symptoms, so that fewer codes need to be reported to fully describe a condition. The reason they
changed it is because the practice of medicine has changed considerably in the last 25 years, and the
ICD needed to reflect those change. There have been many new diseases discovered, new type of
medical devices and new treatment and the

When I was in grade school I had teachers that would reward students for good grades and positive
behavior thus making it more likely for us to work hard to do better. I remember receiving candy, a
material reinforcer, recess extensions, an activity reinforcer, and even activity passes, an activity
reinforcer, for doing well. If I proved to know the content well enough, then I was allowed to skip an
activity in class to do something more fun such as a craft or a game instead. Or sometimes, those who
did exceptionally well on a quiz would be allowed to go to lunch early which also meant a longer
recess. These incentives to do well positively reinforced my work ethic so that I was studying more
and working harder to achieve good grades. I noticed as I went through school that my work ethic
strengthened the more positive reinforcement I received. If I began to slip, and my effort level
decreased then I would receive negative reinforcement from my teachers in the form of a bad grade, a
secondary reinforcer. This would then signal me to work harder so that I would not receive the same
low grade as before. The consequences I encountered from both working hard and slacking off shaped
the way I behaved in school. When offered incentives to do well and negative consequences for not
performing as well, I was induced to work hard and get good grades. One particular example of
Operant Conditioning I remember from my early education was when my father promised my class
McDonalds lunch if all of us got 100% on our spelling test. I remember our entire class studying
harder than we had before to achieve a perfect score on our test. We ended up making our goal and
being the highest scoring class all year for spelling tests. My father s positive reinforcement of our
habit to study hard affected my class and for the rest of the year my class had a notably higher work

Tornado Of Mapleton Research Paper

of Mapleton, Iowa was swift, dangerous, and created a lot of expensive damage. To begin with, a
strong and heavy storm was on its way to a small town of Mapleton, Iowa. The town had several
practices before, which allowed everyone to be safe during that night. The wind rate was 136 to 165
mph during that time. The sky was turning colors, hail started to beat down, and the wind picked up.

Essay on Disobedience in William Shakespeare s King Lear
Disobedience in William Shakespeare s King Lear How sharper than a serpent s tooth it is to have a
thankless child . Filial disobedience is a key theme in the play King Lear and in both the times it was
set and written, children were not expected to disobey their fathers. Jacobean England was an
extremely hierarchical society meaning that respect should not only be shown to the powerful and rich
but also to parents and the elderly. Seventeenth century England would have been more devout in
terms of religion than today and undoubtedly a Jacobean audience would have been familiar with the
fifth commandment, Honour thy father and mother . Lear, like any king, Pagan or otherwise, would

This is the source of Lear s outrage and he cannot believe that his most beloved daughter would not
only go against his wishes, but also against the basic expectations he has of his children. This helps
Shakespeare to show what an unstable character Lear is because he does not realise that Cordelia has
actually done what he has asked and told him how much she loves him. Lear s emotions at this point
swing between the extremes of love and anger because of this: Here I disclaim all my paternal care,
Propinquity and property of blood And as a stranger to my heart and me. I.i.109 111 In his rage, Lear
is willing to give up his love for his daughter even though he loves her immensely. It illustrates the
fury and rash judgements that have become ingrained in his nature whilst king. He wants to prove to
the court and possibly himself that, even though he is abdicating, he still wants to be seen as
omnipotent. His self importance and need for praise leads him to thinking that Cordelia has shamed
him and therefore banishes her. In spite of Goneril and Regan s obvious lies, Lear foolishly divides the
kingdom between. Where Lear falls for their shallow lies, the audience sees through them and their
sympathy lies with Cordelia. The audience also learn that the family dynamics depend on whether

  • 2. A Report On Life Savers Bailey Edwards Carter English 12 28 April 2015 Life Savers According to the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute, Fire departments in the United States respond to 1.8 million fires each year or about four fires every minute. Annually, more than 5,000 Americans are killed and 100,000 are injured as a result of fires, and annual property loss due to fires has been estimated to be as high as $10 billion (Smith et al.1). Which means there are many firefighters risking their lives to save others . They know the risks but love doing it. Today, most firefighters are provided with a full encapsulated ensemble that incorporates technological advancements in thermal protection, breathability, chemical resistance and reflectivity (Tutterow). PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) protects firefighters from almost anything presented on a fire scene yet, still is not enough to lower the rates of deaths and injuries in the fire service. Firefighter PPE needs to reduce deaths and injuries and continue advancements in technology, all while maintaining a reasonable cost. If the United States continues to make advancements in PPE technology it will decrease the number of fatalities and injuries. Many buildings burned down because of firefighters were limited to external fighting measures only wearing wool coats, rubber boots, gloves, and leather helmets. In the History of Firefighter Personal Protective Equipment by Paul Hasenmeier claims: In the 1600 s, firefighters had to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Violation Of Human Rights Equality Imagine being in another persons shoes that may not have it as easy as others. Some people do not get the same respect as others just because of the way they look. This is an example of a human rights violation. An human right violation is when a right is being abused in such a way that it effects how some people live their life. It is hard to even think about that this is going on in American today. It is a big problem in today s society, and many are speaking out about it. This human rights violation is the result of racial inequality in America, and many are trying to stop it by protesting, starting movements, and kneeling of the national anthem. Many people have freedom, which comes with rights. Some important rights in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that relate to Racial inequality are articles two and three. Article two states, Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedom set forth in this declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race... (Library). This shows that everyone of any color has the same rights as others. This human right is being violated because many people of color are not being treated equally. Another human rights article that is being violated is article three. This human right is being violated because [e]veryone has the right to life, liberty, and security of person, but people of other races are not treated like they have these rights (Library). People of color are starting to stand up to others who treat them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Band Session At The Baked Potato This concert report will go into great detail regarding the performance that I witnessed, as well as the genre of Jazz that was played, the artist, and the techniques that were used. I will start with my personal experience of the concert that I attended. This will focus on the details of the performance, as well as my mindset before and after the show. Next, this paper will research the origins of the genre of Jazz that was played, which is Funk and has been supported by several scholarly sources. Then I will look at the origin of the Jam Session. Finally I will then end with information regarding the performers themselves as well as the history of the venue. For my concert report I went with the members of my group presentation to the weekly jam session at The Baked Potato, located in studio city. We just got done with a long night of studying, it was late, a Monday, and I was tired. This was the first Jazz show that I have ever been to and I didn t know what to expect. I had zero expectations going into this and in the end I m glad I didn t. When we arrived I was immediately surprised at how small the venue was. There was maybe a little more than thirty people in totally and it was a packed house. We took our seats right next to the stage, sitting directly in front of the bassist and lead guitar player. As we ordered our two drink minimum and a couple of baked potatoes to share, I watched as the rest of the band started to step on stage. Some seemed to know each other ... The album holds the record for time spent on the Billboard Top 200 albums with a total of 861 non successive weeks, (Billboard) and included prominent songs such as Time, Money, and The Great Gig in the Sky. It is characterized by the cover, which shows a prism separating a stand of light into a rainbow over a black background. When the album was released, the image s success impacted it by gaining the attention and support of a broader audience. In the recent year of 2011, the album cover proved itself once more when it was ranked the number two album cover of all time by the readers of Rolling Stone. (Greene) ... This state of the world is represented by white light. The light suggest that people are pure in thought, and naïve: they don t know about the problems of the world. Humans need a catalyst to start a revolution so they can move away from obsessions with money, the pain of war and ignoring poverty. That catalyst is represented by the prism. Change could happen if people would use their time wisely and work for it. Artist like Pink Floyd and the attitude of the youth that bought their albums in the 1970s could act as catalyst for change. This changed, informed world is represented by the rainbow. Multiple colors and hue are represented, meaning that people are aware of issues within the world. • 8. Black Loyalist Reflection Ideas Reflection on the Presentation Indicate what you have learned. Going into this project, I had very little knowledge about the Black Loyalists of Nova Scotia and knew nothing about their exodus to Africa. From past school projects, I knew that many Loyalists fled to the Maritimes following the American Revolutionary War. I had also previously learnt that some Loyalists were freed African American slaves, however I never realised how incredible their story was. Through this project, I learnt about the Black Loyalists struggles for freedom and acceptance, the hostile treatment that they endured from both the British government and their fellow Nova Scotians and their eventual exodus to Sierra Leone. • 9. The Strategies of Globalization and Regionalization Globalization and Regionalization: As a concept that has become common since the 1990s, globalization is described as the technological, economic, cultural, ideological, and economic changes across borders. It can also be regarded as the transformation of the global economy through the anarchy of financial markets or a technological revolution with social impacts. In contrast, regionalization is the growth of societal integration within a specific area that incorporates all the undirected procedures of economic and social interactions among the units in the region. Since these concepts are different in nature, they contain various strategies that are only effective in specific situations. Strategies of Globalization and Regionalization: The concept of globalization has become a prevalent phenomenon in the past two decades because of the changes it has brought and the adoption of its strategies by multinational corporations or companies. The economic changes of globalization include the strengthening of economic inter dependence, internationalization of production, and enhanced mobility of transnational corporations. On the other hand, trade liberalization, privatization, and deregulation are the ideological changes emanating from this concept. • 11. Psychopathy And The Physiological Etiology Of Psychopathy Psychopathy is a topic that receives more than its fair share of attention in the media. The very concept of psychopathy simultaneously fascinates and terrifies people as they attempt to understand the motivation of people who they deem to be very different than themselves. However, people rarely stop to consider the physiological differences in individuals with psychopathy, focusing instead on outward displays of sensational aggression. In order to assess the physiological components of psychopathy, it is necessary to consider theories on the physiological etiology of psychopathy, the ways in which the prefrontal cortex and amygdala work together to enhance psychopathic symptomology, and the ways in which lesions on the prefrontal cortex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Much like the University of Pennsylvania study, results indicated that reduced functioning in parts of the brain involved in moral decision making and the expression of emotion may help to explain psychopathy (Glenn et al, 2009; Marsh et al., 2011). Another theory of the physiological etiology of psychopathy focuses on the role of serotonergic functionality. As serotonin functions to maintain mood balance, deficits in the functionality of serotonin have the potential to be hugely detrimental. A study published in Motivation and Emotion analyzed the role of serotonin in high levels of aggression, a key component of the expression of psychopathy. Researchers also proposed a connection between high levels of testosterone and low levels serotonin working together to increase both aggression and impulsivity (Montoya et al., 2012). These findings complement those in a study conducted by researchers at Radboud University, which consisted of a between groups comparison between psychopathy and sociopathy in terms of dysfunction in emotional processing, HPA axis functioning, and serotonergic profiles, as well as polymorphisms in serotonergic genes and behavioral endophenotypes (Yildirim Derksen, 2013). • 12. Bilingualism What does it mean to be bilingual? Is it as simple as having the ability to speak two languages? Or does it have a deeper meaning? Martin Espada and Richard Rodriguez have opposite views on the concept of bilingualism. Espada feels Latinos have the right to speak Spanish anywhere, considering language is intertwined with identity. Conversely, Rodriguez believes that to truly understand a language, you must forget the language that is already known to feel accepted in society. These ideas, similar to mine are not as simple as speaking two languages. To me the idea of bilingualism is respecting the two languages that are spoken by having the courage to speak them anywhere, at anytime. According to Martin Espada the idea of bilingualism is way deeper than just speaking two languages. Being bilingual to Espada means that both the languages spoken are intertwined with identity. This claim is constructed in his essay The New Bathroom Policy at English High School. He informs us of what he has learned about bilingual people in America: I have never met a single person who didn t want to learn English. What they want to do is retain their language, culture and identity (Espada 164 167). English is a powerful language in America, the Latinos that reside there feel that learning English could jeopardize their ability to speak Spanish. Moreover, Espada also uses an experience he had at META, in which the goal was to stop English from becoming the official language in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Ordained Ministry Chapter 2 Analysis After reading Chapter 2 of Pastor: The Theology and Practice of Ordained Ministry by Willimon I found that there is many ways to minister to people. It is possible to collectively and effectively utilize a little piece from each area to make it work. The primary thing to realize is that you are not overly dependent on one area versus another, allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in your ministry. I see myself as a therapist and a manger as Willimon refers to it in the text. These two classifications or words appear different when used in ministry. For example, when someone refers to a therapist what comes to mind? One imagines perhaps someone in an agency with a desk and a couch who listens to other people s problems or somebody who is guiding a successful business who may also just be off in an office to themselves. Meanwhile, on the other side of the spectrum, within ministry the pastor is looked at as more of a healer or mediator for the counselee and the Holy Spirit and as a person who also multi tasks many other areas of administration. While counseling the pastor is not worried about worldly issues but is more focused on aiding you in a more spiritual side of healing. Many different things can be made ranging from a simple Christmas ornament, to a work of art. Glassblowers use many different techniques and tools to aid them in their jobs. Glassblowing is not an easy job, it requires knowledge in what you re doing and the skill to not harm yourself or others. Glass has a variety of unique properties. Glass is hard, very brittle, a good insulator, and does not react to other chemicals easily. In addition to this, glass is considered an amorphous solid. This means that the molecular structure of glass is mostly random. This is because in the process of making glass, glass is cooled so quickly that it does not have time to form or create a structure at the molecular level. This process is known as quenching. There are a variety of tools and equipment used in the glassblowing process. Three of which consist of three very large furnaces. The first furnace melts the glass and keeps the glass hot. I remember receiving candy, a material reinforcer, recess extensions, an activity reinforcer, and even activity passes, an activity reinforcer, for doing well. If I proved to know the content well enough, then I was allowed to skip an activity in class to do something more fun such as a craft or a game instead. Or sometimes, those who did exceptionally well on a quiz would be allowed to go to lunch early which also meant a longer recess. These incentives to do well positively reinforced my work ethic so that I was studying more and working harder to achieve good grades. I noticed as I went through school that my work ethic strengthened the more positive reinforcement I received. If I began to slip, and my effort level decreased then I would receive negative reinforcement from my teachers in the form of a bad grade, a secondary reinforcer. This would then signal me to work harder so that I would not receive the same low grade as before. The consequences I encountered from both working hard and slacking off shaped the way I behaved in school. When offered incentives to do well and negative consequences for not performing as well, I was induced to work hard and get good grades.
