Massachusetts Bay Colony Dbq
In the 1630s to 1660s, the Puritans strong belief in god and its upholding shaped the
Massachusetts Bay Colony s development. The colony was fully based on the Puritan s view
which painted their religion and it effected the lifestyle. The Puritans were a highly religious group
that believed god s will was the absolute. As shown in document 3, it states how the church is
always right and nothing should be done to offend it. This shows the grasp of the Puritans hold
toward god because this was a statement of the church s membership and so it should display their
beliefs. It demonstrates the way that Puritans work for god and should not do anything to tarnish
the name. Then in document 4, it thanks god for bringing them to this country because this is
where they flourished and developed. Again the mention of god shows how the colony was... Show

In document 5, it portrays god as all loving and he is the basis of morality. This shows the extent
that Puritans believed God controlled everything and was the judge to everything. Document 8
is about how God was the leader and that the colonist should remember and be grateful for his
guidance. Higginson is a clergyman so it is natural that he would believe in the power of god and
want to spread it so others can see his view, this is reflected on the colony founded by the
Puritanical principals. When the puritans met with someone they disagreed with, it was because
they challenged god. They had a colony build by their views on god, so they banished the
mavericks. Anne Hutchinson was banished foe spreading word of not putting ultimate faith in god,
and Roger William was also banished for questioning

Disadvantages Of Integrated Model
Abstract The integrated model is a new model that is recently developed to decrease from the
classical approach weaknesses and problems in building the management information systems (MIS
s) that are used to solve the management problems in the practical life. The use of this integrated
model needs to be tested, to prove how efficiently and successfully the model works. To achieving
this objective, this paper uses the mathematical probability theories to implement an internal test of
the integrated model work before using it in the practical life. The paper uses the qualitative
research method in its methodologies.

5 Test and Maintenance Stage: it is the fifth (final) stage in the information system life cycle. Here,
the system will be tested to verify whether it includes errors or if it needs improvements to be better
and effective in achieving the users requirements [2],[3].
1.b What is the drawback of the classical approach
The information system life cycle of the classical approach (ISLC) consists of five main stages
that are: planning, analysis, design, implementation, and maintenance or test stages. The classical
approach uses these stages in its work in building the management information systems that will
be used to solve the management problems. The weakness and problem of the classical approach
arises from the permanent use of all of these five stages in all cases; because there are many cases
that actually need to use some of these stages but not to all of them, and as a result the classical
approach suffers from the weakness and problem in consuming more time and additional cost when
it is used to build the management information systems (MIS s) in order to solve the management
problems

Analysis Of Theater Of The Oppressed By Augusto Boal
In Theater of the Oppressed , Augusto Boal argues that theater is inherently political and that
traditional, Aristotelian theater is inherently oppressive. He reviews the history of theater, from
Aristotle through Machiavelli, Hegel, and Brecht, and proposes a new idea of theater that breaks
the bounds between audience and performers, and between chorus and protagonist. In the
Introduction , Boal introduces his main proposition, that theater is inherently political. He presents
conflicting classical ideas of whether the theater is merely entertainment or is fundamentally
political. Aristotle argued that theater and poetry are independent of politics, and Boal seeks to
show that Aristotelian theater is a political tool that represses the... Show more content on

According to Boal, Aristotle s tragic hero has one flaw, a characteristic that is antisocial or
rebellious. The audience empathizes with this trait, and the virtuous character. When the flaw leads
the character to tragedy, the audience pities the character and fears for themselves, who share this
trait. Through the character s downfall, the trait is suppressed in the audience.
How does Art imitate Nature? Well Aristotle seems to think that Art imitates nature means that Art
recreates the creative principle of created things. Not in the sense that it mimics things in the world,
but that it re cerates nature. In this sense, art utilizes the creative principal of created things. Artistic
items are not exact reproductions, but contain much of the same tenets as the original so as to
impart knowledge and understanding about that item. Boal describes ideas of the thinkers of
Aristotle s time and how Aristotle may have developed this point of view. Boal concludes this sub
section of section one with the idea of knowledge and how it is presented. He suggests that through
dialectics and the debate of ideas knowledge ascends. Boal further depicts how Aristotle may have
reconciled his position on the arts and society with that of his contemporaries. He introduced new
concepts in the perception that substance is the enduring unity of matter and form. In tragedy
(Aristotle s characterization for theater),

Essay about War Of The Worlds by H.G. Wells
War Of The Worlds by H.G. Wells As the Martians fire their deadly heat rays, destroying towns and
cities will anyone survive against the overwhelming odds? What were the Martians doing here?
This could not have been a friendly visit, so what were their intentions? In H.G. Wells War of the
Worlds the humans instinct to survive overcomes threats to their existence. When faced with the
unknown the human instinct for survival gives us only two options, fight or flight. When the
unknown plumes of fire were first spotted shooting from Mars it attracted many scientists, and it

Louise Erdrich s Tracks Essay example
Louise Erdrich s Tracks
In Louise Erdrich s Tracks ;, the readers discovers by the second chapter that there are two
narrators, Nanapush and Pauline Puyat. This method of having two narrators telling their stories
alternately could be at first confusing, especially if the readers hasn t been briefed about it or hasn
t read a synopsis of it. Traditionally, there is one narrator in the story, but Erdrichdoes an effective
and spectacular job in combining Nanapush and Pauline s stories. It is so well written that one
might question as he or she reads who is the principal character in this story? Being that there are
two narrators, is it Nanapush, the first narrator, him being a participant in the story, who tells his

Fleur smiles on knowing that she is the catalyst of the falling trees.
With the importance of Fleur throughout Tracks ;, she can be symbolized as being the nucleus
of an atom. Fleur, being the nucleus while the two narrators are like protons and electrons
orbiting around Fleur. Without the nucleus of an atom, there wouldn t be an atom; just as if there
were no Fleur, the two narrators wouldn t have someone to focus on. On the other hand, if the
atom were missing some electrons or protons, there would be an imbalance, but there would still
be some form of an atom. In other words, each narrator s story can be considered a separate entity.
It might not be as complete if the two stories were together, but because each story has a subject, a
motivation and a conclusion. It can survive on its own. But, because of Fleur s importance in both
stories, she cannot be excluded from either story without afflicting it detrimentally. If we relate this
to the novel and eliminate Pauline and her story, we still have Nanapush telling the history of Fleur
and the Chippewa s to Lulu. However, what is the significance of Nanapush telling Lulu about the
history of both her tribe and her mother?
The reasons are two fold. First, to reunite Lulu and her mother, Fleur. It seems that right from the

My Grandmother s Parents On My Dad s Side Essay
My great grandparents, Joe Seymour and Bonnie Hudkins are my grandfather s parents on my dad s
side, and they changed the denomination in which they believe several times. As a boy, Joe grew
up attending the Episcopal church, but as a young man, he converted to the Lutheran church when
he married my great grandmother Bonnie who was born and raised a Lutheran. While my
grandfather was young, my great grandfather sent him without telling my great grandmother to an
Episcopal Boys Home to correct his misbehavior. However, my great grandmother became upset
that my grandfather took him to the boys home and there were other religious differences which led
them to leave the Episcopal and Lutheran church altogether and try out the Church of Christ. Once
they were connected with the Church of Christ, they accepted the doctrine that they were the true
church of the New Testament. My grandmother s parents on my dad s side were Robert Ross Jr.
and Hazel (Helen) Mayfield. Pentecostalism believes in the baptismof the Holy Spiritwith the
evidence of speaking in tongues which is what Robert Ross grew up believing. However, Robert

Allusions Of The Serpent
The bible can be seen as a great piece of literature, one which many people will recognize if there
are references to it in modern day books, movies, and even music. One of the major topics for
allusions is the Serpent. Most commonly known for his role in the story of Adam and Eve the
serpent is sly, cunning, and deceivingly tricky. Authors allude to the Serpentif they want to
characterize a character as evil or devious. They may also use this allusion to advance a theme as
to not trust everyone you meet or temptation may be your downfall. They can use it to create other
moods such as suspenseful ones, or even sad ones if the reader knows that the fall of the character
is coming. All of these things are used in the examples in the next... Show more content on

Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made
(English Standard Version Bible, Gn. 3:1). In this quote, the reader can infer that the Serpent is
sly, devious, and cunning and should not be trusted. To see that the Serpent is tempting Eve the
bible says, He said to the woman, Did God actually say You shall not eat of any tree in the
garden ? . . . But the serpent said to the woman, You will not surely die. For God knows that when
you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. (Gn. 3:2

Medical Marijuana Should Be Legal
The term medical marijuana refers to the using the whole unprocessed marijuana plant or its
basic extracts to treat a disease or symptom. But how can you really help? Medical marijuana
may help stop the growth of blood vessels that feed cancerous tumors. And what I am currently
researching is how medical marijuana can help treat illnesses. For medical marijuana we
basically use THC and CBD both or cannabinoids that are in the marijuana plant. For THC it
increases appetite and reduces nausea. THC me also decrease pain inflammation and muscle
control problems. Also a cannabinoid known as CBD may be useful in reducing pain and
inflammation controlling seizures. But overall marijuana isn t just a fun thing to use it is
something more special it s something that people with medical issues can use to help treat their
illness. Many countries have approved a mouth spray containing THC and CBD both us particles
that are in the marijuana plant. Which is also used in medical marijuana research. The FDA still
have not approved the medical marijuana plant which we use to help treat illnesses. Also the
FDA uses THC and CBD which is in the marijuana plant. THC increases appetite and reduces
nausea. The FDA approved THC based medications are used for these purposes. THC may also
decrease pain, inflammation (swelling and redness), and muscle control problems. Of course there

Miller v. California: Obscenity

In the case, Miller v. California, obscenity was redefined and it was determined that it did not have
protection under the First Amendment. The case began in 1972, when a man by the name of
Marvin Miller mass mailed ?adult material? in brochures as an advertisement strategy (Chicago
Kent College of Law, 2015). Five of these brochures were sent to a restaurant in Newport Beach,
California. The manager and his mother opened the letter containing the crude material. After
having unwillingly received these materials, they complained to the police (Miller v. California,

Chief Justice Burger wrote and delivered the opinion of the court. The argument the Supreme Court
presented was that obscene materials have been ?thrust? on people, who did not want to receive
those things. They stated that states had rights concerning this issue. They have the right to
prohibit these materials when it ?carries significant danger of offending the sensibilities of
unwilling recipients or of exposure to juveniles? (Miller v. California, 1973). Burger also wrote on
behalf of the majority that ?We hold that obscenity is not within the area of constitutionally
protected speech or press.? There were no concurring opinions but there were two dissenting.
Justice Douglas argued that because the court changes their mind frequently concerning the
standard to which obscene materials are held to, that Miller should not be punished for the
negligence of the Court (Miller v. California, 1973). Justice Brennan argued that Court, Congress,
or States could not decide whether obscene materials are protected or not under the First

Summary OfAmerican Sonnet To My Past And Future Assassin
Societal Reluctance and Reflection
American Sonnet to my Past and Future Assassin by Terrance Hayes is a modern American sonnet
whose focus is a black man struggling to comprehend his place in society. The speaker of the poem
illustrates his dilemma through comparisons to the respected black musicians of the twentieth
century to whom he feels a deep connection to. The tone of the sonnet is one of contemplation, or
even uncertainty, as the speaker outlines his thoughts in reluctance, questioning both himself and
his audience. Befitting of the overall tone, the sonnet commences with uncertainty, plainly
illustrated with the language of the speaker s initial statement: I m not sure how to hold my face
when I dance (1), for he arranges his words to portray a feeling of vacillation. Immediately
following this reflective proclamation, the speaker poses three questions, all of which allude to the
contemplative tone apparent in the text. While these inquiries regard the subject of dance, the
speaker also intends for them to be metaphors for the uncertainty he, as a black man, has for his
place in society. His questions are rapid fire, almost probing the audience for answers that are
seemingly nonexistent. As a result of the rapidity, there is an absence of breaks for these questions
to be answered, evincing the speaker s belief that they, in fact, have no answers. These first four
sentences are crucial in the sonnet s development, as they kindle ruminations for both the speaker
and the audience. Promptly thereafter, the narrator compares his own hesitant nature to the eminent
musician Jimi Hendrix, and how, I hear Jimi Hendrix /Was also unsure in dance despite being
beautiful /And especially attuned (5 7). Similar to the preceding lines, reluctance cloaks the prose
like a veil. Note how the line begins with I hear... The narrator uses this as a prelude to the claim to
emanate a feeling of uncertainty. Moreover, in his dubiety, the speaker appears to treat the
comparison as almost frivolous and trivial; ergo, the connection itself upholds the poem s hesitant
tone. Regardless, this remark can also be interpreted as an analogy for society. Hendrix, despite his
unequivocal beauty, had difficulty discerning his

The Importance Of Planning For Disaster Response And How...
1) Describe the focus of the article and its relevance to project management.
From a high level the focus of the article was the importance of planning for disaster response and
how the lack of planning can have a serious negative impact on the effectiveness of providing relief
to those in need. All of the information is relevant to project management in that providing disaster
relief is a project much like any other project. The main differences are that it is more complex,
requires immediate action, and is less tolerant of mistakes (scope change). The author points out
that Effective planning helps any project, but in disaster relief efforts, it can make the difference
between life and death, normality and chaos. (1)
The importance of staying focused and not trying to be all things to all people is discussed as well
as ensuring that aid givers stick with their core competencies and know when to disengage. A
contributor, Myles Fish of International Aid is quoted as saying If there is not a predetermined
contribution and consummation, then you will end up taking on every need, which is far too
taxing on any organization and presents a situation where the entire effort never has an end (2)
Other areas mentioned include the importance of communication at all levels and between all relief
agencies. Myles Fish also says this about communication High level communication is imperative in
coordinating with other community partners to identify gaps in services and to

The Event I Went At The University Of Minnesota
The event I went to go see was a Guest Master Class instructed by Barthold Kujiken. This event
was held on Sunday afternoon in Ferguson Hall at the University of Minnesota. It was held in a
small auditorium similar to a class setting. Barthold was accompanied by a student flutist and
pianist. A lot of time was spent with the flutist and pianist playing a part of a piece, and him
teaching and demonstrating on how to improve a piece and explaining the fundamentals of the
music. It was a very informative event/class.
Barthold Kujiken was born March 8, 1949. He s a Belgian flutist and recorder player. He attended
Bruges Conservatory and the Royal Conservatories of Brussels and The Hague, where he studied
the modern flute. He is best known for playing baroque music on authentic instruments such as the
flute. He played in baroque orchestras for many years, and then went off to playing chamber
music concerts all over the world, where he extended to playing 19th century music. The
majority of the event he talked about Sonata s. As we discussed in class, a sonata is a solo
instrument accompanied by a keyboard. In this case the solo instrument was the flute and it was
accompanied by a piano. The flutist played a major sonata. As she played apiece he would stop
her and tell her a few things to change to improve the piece, and she would play that piece once
again with the revisions. One of the other things he told her was to play the sonata without any
ornaments just the skeleton.

A Virgo Woman in a Relationship

partner who will cook for you, clean your home and care for your children unless you stop her.
You should stop her though. She will give her everything to you and leave nothing for herself, so
you need to limit her selfless nature. Because of her selfless tendencies, a Virgo woman in love is
easily taken advantage of, so be careful not to take her for granted.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Toyota
Being in a spiralling economy, the automobile industry must step up their games to produce
attractive advertisements. Creativity is crucial to attract potential buyers and gain more sales. To
target specific prospects through ads, the automobile industry usually apply rhetoric concepts to
enhance their product s appeal in every way, and not just purely on the automobiledesigns. As men
are the main target audience, car ads are usually being advertised as appealing and dangerous.
Nevertheless, there are other important aspects to be highlighted as well, which can be perfectly
marketed with certain rhetoricaspects. Although automobile ads always target the male audience,
the industry also understands how partners or family can influence in purchase... Show more content

Toyota reminds the audience to always pay close attention to their surroundings and the system
effectiveness is dependent on many factors, which shows that it has its limitations. From this
perspective, some may argue on how it is quiet contradict to their effort to show the
effectiveness of the brake in unexpected situation, as the reliability has its limitations.
Therefore, it can be said that Toyota cars can be used by everyone and everywhere, however, the
attitude of the driver is still very important. Looking at how the commercial emphasize on the
calmness and the family being the passengers, for instance, the mother looking back to check out
on the son after the near death experience or the pre collision, Toyota is trying to show how
important it is to take safety measure seriously as the driver is responsible over the life of others
passengers. The emotional aspect from this scenario might not be magnified into a tensely or
panicking mode, yet subtly leaves an impact to the audience to always care about other people in
the car and the external surrounding. Toyota is proving that their vehicle is safe for family use,
and while they will keep manufacturing better designs and systems for their users, the driving
attitude is important too. The ad does not show reckless driving of any sort, to prove that even
when we drive at a slow pace, accidents can still happen and can be caused by external factors.
Therefore, with a good driving attitude and Toyota vehicles, the risk can be

The eruption killed 57 people, in the lateral blast, ashfall, and lahars. The causes to death
included asphyxiation, thermal injuries, and trauma. Four indirect death were caused by a crop
duster hitting power lines during the ashfall, a traffic accident during poor visibility, and two
heart attacks from shoveling ash. The Toutle River was flooded by melting snow and ice from
the mountain. About 12 million board feet of stockpiled lumber were sweep in the river, eight
bridges were destroyed, 200 homes were destroyed or damaged, debris dams were added to help
control sediment in the rivers. Thirty logging trucks, 22 transport vehicles, and 39 rail cars were

great study for environmentalist to see how an ecosystem can repair itself over the course of

recovery was a trial and error process, with seeds blown in on the wind and animals traveling to

Research Paper On Napoleon Bonaparte
Slade Rheaume Dr. Claussen Europe and Empire 7th November 2017 Research Paper The
French Revolution began as an expression of rebellion against centuries of absolute rule in
France. After an interim of experimental liberalism under the rule of Jacobins and Girondins and
then the infamous reign of terror, the people of French were drawn to a man who promised them
a return to stability, and honor through the expansion of empire. France and it s people had long
yearned for this sens eof honour, it had seemed, and could finally sens eit in a lasting rpesence

Napoleon seemed to have been seen as a man chosen and destined by god to find victory, though
in reality he was a workaholic, and spent long nights carefully drafting his plans for battle. He was
careful to maximize his manpower where it counted most. That said, Napoleon saw a value in
remaining unpredictable, always maintaining an aggressive stance to force his opponent to respond
to his moves. He often determined that the moment was more important than manpower. Often,
after maneuvering for some time, Napoleon would order his men to charge towards the enemy s
approximate location. Sometimes he himself recalls that the approximation was weak, but it was
more important to move quickly and definitely, than to wait for complete intelligence to reveal the
true nature of the enemy s whereabouts. Napoleon did not hold many rules on his troops when on
the march, only that they move at a steady pace and stay close together so that they could get into
formation quickly. Ultimately, it is clear that Napoleon had a natural gift for choosing the right
moves, and furthermore seemed to be at his best when under the pressure of an intense battle,
while the commanders of other armies tended to mishap. Napoleon is widely considerred a
military genius, and by his very own definition this requires an above superior

Life of Pi is a fantasy adventure novel written by Yann Martel and published in 2001. The book
was adapted into a film in 2012 by director Ang Lee and David Magee. Life of Pi s protagonist is
an Indian boy named Piscine Molitor, or Pi. During the course of the novel, he explores issues of
spirituality and practicality at the early age of sixteen. The story was split into three sections. The
first section introduces the main character/narrator as an adult living in Canada. He reflects on his
life and describes his childhood in India. His father owned a zoo in Pondicherry, a small district in
southern India. The zoo led Pi to be quite comfortable around animals and to understand how they

A Dynamic Model Of Resource Allocation
Program portfolios within a budget constraint are a vital challenge in the management of new
product development. Most favorable portfolios are not easy to define because of the
combinatorial density of project combinations. However, at the collective level of the strategic
allocation of resources across product lines, investment in a program is not an all or nothing
decision, but can be adjusted, resulting in a higher or lower program benefit (e.g., higher or
lower quality). In some cases, resources can be adjusted even for individual projects. With this
insight, one can use marginal analysis to optimally allocate the scarce budget. This article develops
a dynamic model of resource allocation, taking into account multiple interacting factors, such as
independent or correlated, uncertain market payoffs that change over time, increasing or decreasing
returns from the investment, carry over of the investment benefit over multiple periods, and
interactions across market segments. We characterize optimal policies in closed form and derive
qualitative decision rules for managers. (Roussel et al. 1991, Cooper et al. 1998). Projects
represent a growing proportion of human activity in large, small, private or public organizations.
Projects are used to execute and sustain today s organizational activities. They play a fundamental
role as the engine of tomorrow s innovation, value creation, and strategic change. However, projects
too often fail to deliver their promise. (PMJ, 2016).

Friendly Competition and Payola Schemes after the Act
The Congress passed the Telecommunications act of 1996 to promote competition and media

which altered the structure of radio and music industry connection because (1) there are less radio
stations owned by many individuals instead big companies, (2) the companies that own Radio
Stations and Music Industries that promote music and generate sales which is favorable on both

All I can say from doing this research is to, for myself, pay closer attention and be aware of the
shaping of our society through the way radio stations push certain songs and we interpret them. I

the payola procedures play out and how does radio become more dominant than the actual music
industry who produces the music. With this piece of knowledge, I find myself wanting to reject
the idea of radio being available to help us find new music, instead I see it as a way to promote
certain artists and profit off of them without actually paying their songs because its good. These
industries are continuing to push for consumerism when in reality it should be set up as a world of

Questions On The On Cyber Offense
Report 1

Luke Weyrauch
ICS 382 01 Fall 2014
Faisal Kaleem
Metropolitan State University
Background
Cyberattacks have both the potential to devastate and intimidate. They can disable national
infrastructure, disrupt communication systems, or even destroy nuclear reactors.
Cybersecurity is a thought provoking and interesting issue. The use of cyberattacks in US as a tool
of policy is not sufficiently deliberated by policy makers but it s of utmost importance to the
nation. The policy issues facing the acquisition and use of cyberattacks in US remains a riddle
among many policymakers in the US and the world at large. Lifting the Veil on Cyber Offense is
an article based on the National Research Council, 2009. The article ... Show more content on

Summary of the issues raised
The pertinent issues presented in the article are majorly based on the ways the National
Research Council can protect the US against cyberattacks. The article affirms that cybersecurity is
both a delicate and sensitive issue that requires deliberate monitoring before taking any action.
However, most of the studies carried out have been based mostly on the cyberdefense side rather
than the cyber offense side. This gap, therefore, acts as a motivation towards carrying out this
particular research in trying to unveil some of the issues that remain untouched.
The current state of cyberattacks in many countries including the US is one filled with dilemma and
misunderstanding. Proper institutions and policies have not been set in place to ensure that the
policies formulated are in line with both national and international interests. Some of the problems
existing include difficulty in identification of parties responsible for cyberattacks, strategic and
tactical implications of cyberattacks, and lack of comprehensive strategic policies in the US,
among many others (Lin, 2009). These problems exist because cyber related crimes have no
boundaries nor proper

Video Games Are The Most Revolutionary Form Of Art
To quote the famous game designer Santiago Sir Games are not just art, they are the most
revolutionary form of art mankind has ever known about . Video games are a hybrid form of art
that brings together multiple forms of art. Video games are very aesthetic. They achieve this
through the use of their realistic graphics, in depth development of the story, and the emotional
attachment built overtime with the game. Video games have come a long way in the
development of the graphics system. To really understand the substantial innovations that have
been made, one needs to understand where the original graphics started. The original video
games used vector based graphics, which uses geometric primitives to produce an image. This
was common for arcade games. These vector based graphics were mainly two dimensional and
had little detail. For the time that these games released it was an amazing feat of art that they
could use math to produce these images and have a reaction through the use of a joystick and
buttons. Video games of the modern time we live in have blown this feat of the past out of the
water. The common form of producing graphics in a video gamenow uses resolution based bitmap
graphics to develop images. These image can be three or two dimensional and have detail down
to a bead of sweat rolling down your cheek or the swift movement of the grass and landscape.

American Barrick Resources Corporation Case
American Barrick Resources Corporation Case a. Explain the value chain for gold mining firms
(how can a mine create a competitive advantage relative to its rivals). What are the factors that
may explain exceptional performance of ABX relative to the other gold mines? To create a
competitive advantage, a mine has to properly manage its exposure to gold price fluctuations. This
is not an easy thing to do since there are so many factors to consider: when, how much, and how to
hedge the gold production. Firms in this industry differentiate themselves based on the risk
managementstrategies they implement. Furthermore, mines should also be able to minimize the

For every 1% change in gold prices, how might its stock price be affected? How could the firm
manage its gold price exposure without the use of financial contracts?
If American Barrick wanted to protect itself from gold price exposure without the use of
financial contracts, it could use natural hedges. One way to hedge against undesired risk is to
match cash flows such as revenues and expenses. In other words, a commodity producer such as
American Barrick, which has revenues payables in U.S. dollars and incurs cash outflows in a
different currency, will try to match its outflows to its expected inflows in the foreign currency.
Another way of hedging against risk is the purchase of insurance to protect against financial loss
due to external influences. It is also common to hedge gold investments against fluctuations of the
U.S. dollar. It is extremely important for commodity traders to know which currency is correlated
with what commodity in order to be able to predict certain market movements; for instance, there is
often a negative correlation between gold and S amp;P 500.

price exposure? ABX wanted to lock in the price at which it could sell its output in order to avoid

Corruption In Culture
Why corruption is rampant in sport?
Corrupt Culture
Corruption has always existed in society and no country will get rid of it entirely. Many people
considered that political corruption is a cultural issue. Some of them also stated that gift giving is
part of our culture and often be used to quibble their corrupt acts (Larmour, 2012). However, people
should not confuse gift giving with bribery or corruption and culture should not long be the excuse
of culture. In fact, it is unreasonable to assume that political culture are inherently corrupt and
rooted in any society. Political leaders violate social and political norms do not mean that there are
no norms (Alatas, 1968). Corruption in politics is the result that political leaders rationally make
and economically calculated. In this situation, culture does not play a vital role in this decision.
Since corruption is not a cultural circumstance in politics, anti corruption programs might be
efficiently implemented. This is because the prevention will not focus on the changes of culture,
instead it could aim at the vulnerabilities of a particular moment in corruption history.
However, corruption in sport is different from political corruption that there exists a specific and
vulnerable environment for corruption. It is mentioned by Boniface (et al., 2012) that most players
are trained and live in a closed environment. Under the tremendous pressure from medical advisors
and sports management, their behavior are controlled and

Physics Of Running Essay
Running is quite a brutal sport when it involves distance and proficiency. Force and distance
influences how runners run their race in track. They use speed, strength, flexibility and stability.
However, when a runner is running hard, the work creates more and more heat. The best way to
release the heatis through sweating. With the elements of energyand temperature, the force created
doesn t die and is regenerated through the race. By adding coolness in temperature and energy,
muscles don t get locked. The last thing anyone wants is an overworked muscle. With an
overworked muscle, you don t beat your time.
A muscle can work up to around 25 hertz of energy just from generated heat. The heat is based on
the size of who is competing and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The physics is located in his work, mass, distance, and speed. His whole body is dependent on
the way he resists the air drag and releases the heat. When he comes out of the blocks, he creates
a force of 817 newton at a horizontal degree. The speed he keeps throughout the race is about 30
miles per hour. Unlike the runners, he is able to let go of the heat with his resilient suit. Right out
of the block, his work is above two thousand and six hundred watts. The force that he creates right
out of the starting block is 2600 watts. This then impacts how much energy he uses in his 100
meter sprint. With this much force in speed, he creates 2 watts per hour and 11.6 HP of power,
and earns the gold medal.
Most runners in a sport run with a back like a pencil, while Bolt s height advances his air drag.
His stamina, physique and many other factors help his torso push against the air drag. The force
and work causes Usan bolt to win his races. When someone increases the speed, it is the shedding
of heat that impacts the race. The shedding of heat is the renewed energy that keeps a leveled
speed in the specified distance. Depending on the heat, one can always go the distance with their
best shape and speed. The real message is this, all runners

Without insurance company, the market is at equilibrium at point A. So, at that point people would
not mind preferring selecting public care. But with copayment health insurance, consumers pay the
lower price of P2 and quantity increases to Q2. Since payment is also done by the insurance
company then people seek better quality of services which is provided by privatized health care.
So, Its demand increases in the country. But not all have insurance and cannot afford expensive
private care. So, it is very difficult to decide and assume the demand for privatized health care.
Pros and Cons Privatized Health care
Private health care is often criticized for being bloated, inefficient and inequitable; designed
primarily for the benefit of private health insurance companies. Nevertheless, we need to be aware
of the economic arguments in favors of private health care system. some pros and cons are
discussed in detail below:

Hurricane Detector Research Paper
Do you recall watching TV, or listening to music, when a weather alert comes out? Hurricane
hunters are the people who find and detect storms that can cause potential harm and damage. The
dropsonde hurricane detector is an instrument they use to calculate the intensity, humidity, air
pressure, and other factors essential to predict the outcome of the storm.
Hurricane hunters drop this instrument into the ocean, and immediately, information comes
pouring in. According to Harriet Jane Caldwell, The devices fall to the ocean and transmit bursts
of data to the airplane twice every second. (Caldwell, 10) The result of this is a more thorough
analysis, as well as immediate updates on the severity of a storm. Caldwell also says, The data
includes temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, as well as the speed and direction of winds.
(Caldwell, 10) Not only does the dropsonde help predict a storm s intesity, but it also helps
determine the location of where the storm will hit. Through the wind direction and intesity,
forecasters and others will be able to tell in which direction the storm ... Show more content on

Caldwell tells us that, A nor easter can unload significant amounts of snow and bring hurricane
force winds that whip up the ocean to flood the coast. (Caldwell, 11) Not only do dropsondes
help with summer disasters, but they help us yearround from a colder catastrophe. Caldwell then
goes on to say, Before a nor easter can form, pilots fly their planes at high altitudes over the ocean
and release dropsondes to collect data on the air conditions that exist ahead of the weather system.
(Caldwell, 11) It is with the dropsonde that Northerners have been saved from the catastrophe of
having a plethora of snow, with a flooded house. It is due to this versatile and practical piece of
technology that we are saved year round from hurricane, cyclones, and

Riis Pride And Prejudice Chapter 3
After reading chapter 3, it was interesting to see how Riis separated each nationality based on
tenements. It consisted of nationalities based on Italian, German, French, African, Spanish,
Bohemian, Russian, Scandinavian, Jewish, and Chinese. He then began to explain how each
nationality treated tenement life. For example, The Irishman does not naturally take kindly to
tenement life, though with characteristic versatility he adapts him to its conditions at once. It does
violence, nevertheless, to the best that is in him, and for that very reason of all who come within
its sphere soonest corrupts him. Based on his information, it seems that the poor can be classified
as rude because of the conditions they live in. Because of the conditions ... Show more content on

Being that they are the only foreigners in the city, they seem to represent those who counts no
wealthy man of his race, none who has not to work hard for a living, or has got beyond the reach
of the tenement. They seem to be less discriminatory on others and rely on looking pasts their living
conditions.
In chapter 5, Riis focuses mainly on Italian immigrants. He speaks about how mostly
Italians did their jobs without no complaints and put up with those who needed it. With that
being said, a lot of the time Italians were then being taken advantage of for their labor and not
speaking an ounce of English made things even more difficult for them. Many worked in ash
barrels or even in dumpsters. They occasionally also gambled and police would have to get
involved due to violence such as death. Overall, despite being somewhat like slaves by landlords
and the rich and trying to have fun when possible, Italians were known as gay, light hearted and
inoffensive as a child. I believe when going through an Italian immigrant s life, times were tough
but they kept perseverance through hard times.
In chapter 11, I learned about the Tenth Ward and the hardships Jews faced in

A Brief Note On Cross Culture Of India
Somewhere culture defines the way of living of people of that area. Therefore I selected this
topic of cross culture of India because the India a huge populated country and there are different
religions in this country. Besides this I think we should have the knowledge about the other
country cultures there languages how they like to live because in this world we can meet any one
in any situations. That s why it s necessary for us to have knowledge about the cultures of the
other country there people, there style of living, festivals, education systems, cuisines, weddings
and the most important one their languages. India is one of the oldest civilizations in the world.
The culture of India varies from place to place within the country. The Indian culture is the
combination of several different cultures. Indian culture is specifically based on the religions
there are several different religions belonging to same country. Basically they have the same
religion but they have divided themselves into various sub groups for example Brahmans and
others. Moreover, there are several more religions living there as the minority such as Islam
(14.2%), Christianity (2.3%), Sikhism (1.7%), Buddhism (0.2%), Jainism (0.4%). There are joint
family systems in the India where the extended members of a family father, mother, children, his
spouse and their offspring lives together. Usually the oldest member of the family is the head of the
family. He rules the whole family in taking serious

Glial Cell Research
Glial cells play an important role in the function of the neurons. Approximately ninety percent of
the human brain is made up of glial cells (Moyes 182). For many years, scientists believed that
these glial cells played a passive role in the nervous system of vertebrates. This is why they were
named glial cells because the Greek word glia means glue (Moyes 182). One type of glial cells that
is part of the peripheral nervous systemis Schwann cells (Moyes 182). Collectively, these cells
make up the myelin sheath and help repair any damage that might happen to the motor or sensory
neurons (Moyes 182). Oligodendrocytes is another type of glial cells located in the central nervous
system (Moyes 182). They differ from Schwann cells because they are able to wrap around... Show

The sympathetic nervous system is most active during times of stress, physical activity, or a
response to a startling stimulus (Moyes 331). The sympathetic nervous system is also called the
fight or flight system (Moyes 331). This is because when this nervous system is stimulated the heart
rate of vertebrates increase and they experience deeper breathing, and blood vessels being dilated
(Moyes 331). The sympathetic nervous system is also able to stimulate the adrenal medulla in order
to release a hormone named epinephrine. Epinephrine is able to increase the heart and respiratory
rates (Moyes 332). The sympathetic nervous system also diverts blood from the digestive system to
the muscles in order to make sure that the muscles have enough nutrients and oxygen (Moyes 331).
The parasympathetic nervous system on the other hand is known as the resting and digesting
system (Moyes 331). Both the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system are referred to as
involuntary nervous systems, but the parasympathetic nervous system undergoes quite activities
such as digesting (Moyes

Essay Government
According to Hobbes the need to create a form of government arises from fulfilling the need of
security. In order for government to provide this security, it is necessary for government to be able
to use its authority in any way it pleases. Locke and Mill on the other hand believe that
government should be able to provide security for its citizens, but in order to do this government
does not need to be large rather it should be limited. Thus, the question arises of how limited
government should be in order to provide security. In this case, should government be able to use
its authority in any way it pleases as Hobbes argues or should there be a limit placed on
governmental power as argued by Locke and Mill? I believe that a powerful... Show more content

However, Hobbes believes that in order for a form of government to be created we must assign a
single person to have authority (Hobbes 175). The sovereign, once assigned has total power
absolute authority. It is only when we are willing to step out of the state of nature by giving
authority to an individual do we create a form of government. This constructs a trade off between
freedom and order. Hobbes says that in order for this trade off to be accomplished government
needs to be gigantic.
Mill, on the contrary, has a view of government that is similar to that of Locke s rather than that
of Hobbes. The difference between Mill and Locke or Hobbes is that for Mill the State of Nature
does not exist, that is to say that Mill assumes that authority has already and always existed (Mill
631).
The way government should operate and how it should be run is where Hobbes, Locke and Mill
differ. Hobbes believes that basically equal makes unequal meaning that, one person should be the
sovereign and run government. Locke on the other hand believes that not a single person should be
in charge of government but rather a group. The power should be located in an institution rather
than a single person (Locke 313). For Mill on the other hand, it does not really matter who governs
just how much governing is being carried out. Hobbes believes that the ruler, in

Analysis Of The Novel A Short Story
Short stories often present the single experience of a character or set of characters where its
climax is marked by a moment of crisis, either in a literal or more emotional and spiritual sense.
Unlike the novel, a short story does not provide the full details of the circumstances or backstory of
the situation at hand, nor does it allow the reader to develop an in depth relationship with these
characters. Despite its condensed form, the short storycan possess layers of subtexts and a sort of
narrativeambiguity where pressure is placed on the reader to make something of these literary texts.
To make sense of these subtexts, the reader should pay particular attention to the narrative voice
being utilized because the narratorhas the ability to influence how a reader may respond to a
literary text by setting up a perspective from which the reader sees it. To get a thorough analysis
of a short story, the reader must analyze its narrator because the text s character is developed
from the degree to which and the manner in which that identity is indicated in the text, and the
choices that are implied (Bal 19). Evidence suggests that the experience a reader may get from a
short story is mostly dependent upon how that story is presented. Mieke Bal refers to this as
focalization, where the relation between who perceives and what is perceived colors the story with
subjectivity (8). For instance, the psychology behind the supposed lovers behavior in D.H.

The colony was fully based on the Puritan s view which painted their religion and it effected the lifestyle. The Puritans were a highly religious group that believed god s will was the absolute. As shown in document 3, it states how the church is always right and nothing should be done to offend it. This shows the grasp of the Puritans hold toward god because this was a statement of the church s membership and so it should display their beliefs. Higginson is a clergyman so it is natural that he would believe in the power of god and want to spread it so others can see his view, this is reflected on the colony founded by the Puritanical principals. When the puritans met with someone they disagreed with, it was because they challenged god. They had a colony build by their views on god, so they banished the mavericks. Disadvantages Of Integrated Model Abstract The integrated model is a new model that is recently developed to decrease from the classical approach weaknesses and problems in building the management information systems (MIS s) that are used to solve the management problems in the practical life. The use of this integrated model needs to be tested, to prove how efficiently and successfully the model works. To achieving this objective, this paper uses the mathematical probability theories to implement an internal test of the integrated model work before using it in the practical life. The classical approach uses these stages in its work in building the management information systems that will be used to solve the management problems. The weakness and problem of the classical approach arises from the permanent use of all of these five stages in all cases; because there are many cases that actually need to use some of these stages but not to all of them, and as a result the classical approach suffers from the weakness and problem in consuming more time and additional cost when it is used to build the management information systems (MIS s) in order to solve the management problems ... • 7. Analysis Of Theater Of The Oppressed By Augusto Boal In Theater of the Oppressed , Augusto Boal argues that theater is inherently political and that traditional, Aristotelian theater is inherently oppressive. He reviews the history of theater, from Aristotle through Machiavelli, Hegel, and Brecht, and proposes a new idea of theater that breaks the bounds between audience and performers, and between chorus and protagonist. In the Introduction , Boal introduces his main proposition, that theater is inherently political. He presents conflicting classical ideas of whether the theater is merely entertainment or is fundamentally political. Aristotle argued that theater and poetry are independent of politics, and Boal seeks to show that Aristotelian theater is a political tool that represses the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Boal, Aristotle s tragic hero has one flaw, a characteristic that is antisocial or rebellious. The audience empathizes with this trait, and the virtuous character. When the flaw leads the character to tragedy, the audience pities the character and fears for themselves, who share this trait. Through the character s downfall, the trait is suppressed in the audience. How does Art imitate Nature? Well Aristotle seems to think that Art imitates nature means that Art recreates the creative principle of created things. Not in the sense that it mimics things in the world, but that it re cerates nature. In this sense, art utilizes the creative principal of created things. Artistic items are not exact reproductions, but contain much of the same tenets as the original so as to impart knowledge and understanding about that item. Boal describes ideas of the thinkers of Aristotle s time and how Aristotle may have developed this point of view. Boal concludes this sub section of section one with the idea of knowledge and how it is presented. He suggests that through dialectics and the debate of ideas knowledge ascends. Boal further depicts how Aristotle may have reconciled his position on the arts and society with that of his contemporaries. He introduced new concepts in the perception that substance is the enduring unity of matter and form. In tragedy (Aristotle s characterization for theater), ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When faced with the unknown the human instinct for survival gives us only two options, fight or flight. On the other hand, if the atom were missing some electrons or protons, there would be an imbalance, but there would still be some form of an atom. In other words, each narrator s story can be considered a separate entity. It might not be as complete if the two stories were together, but because each story has a subject, a motivation and a conclusion. It can survive on its own. But, because of Fleur s importance in both stories, she cannot be excluded from either story without afflicting it detrimentally. If we relate this to the novel and eliminate Pauline and her story, we still have Nanapush telling the history of Fleur and the Chippewa s to Lulu. But the serpent said to the woman, You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. For THC it increases appetite and reduces nausea. THC me also decrease pain inflammation and muscle control problems. Also a cannabinoid known as CBD may be useful in reducing pain and inflammation controlling seizures. But overall marijuana isn t just a fun thing to use it is something more special it s something that people with medical issues can use to help treat their illness. • 15. Summary OfAmerican Sonnet To My Past And Future Assassin Societal Reluctance and Reflection American Sonnet to my Past and Future Assassin by Terrance Hayes is a modern American sonnet whose focus is a black man struggling to comprehend his place in society. The speaker of the poem illustrates his dilemma through comparisons to the respected black musicians of the twentieth century to whom he feels a deep connection to. The tone of the sonnet is one of contemplation, or even uncertainty, as the speaker outlines his thoughts in reluctance, questioning both himself and his audience. Befitting of the overall tone, the sonnet commences with uncertainty, plainly illustrated with the language of the speaker s initial statement: I m not sure how to hold my face when I dance (1), for he arranges his words to portray a feeling of vacillation. Immediately following this reflective proclamation, the speaker poses three questions, all of which allude to the contemplative tone apparent in the text. While these inquiries regard the subject of dance, the speaker also intends for them to be metaphors for the uncertainty he, as a black man, has for his place in society. His questions are rapid fire, almost probing the audience for answers that are seemingly nonexistent. As a result of the rapidity, there is an absence of breaks for these questions to be answered, evincing the speaker s belief that they, in fact, have no answers. These first four sentences are crucial in the sonnet s development, as they kindle ruminations for both the speaker and the audience. Promptly thereafter, the narrator compares his own hesitant nature to the eminent musician Jimi Hendrix, and how, I hear Jimi Hendrix /Was also unsure in dance despite being beautiful /And especially attuned (5 7). Similar to the preceding lines, reluctance cloaks the prose like a veil. Note how the line begins with I hear... The narrator uses this as a prelude to the claim to emanate a feeling of uncertainty. Moreover, in his dubiety, the speaker appears to treat the comparison as almost frivolous and trivial; ergo, the connection itself upholds the poem s hesitant tone. Regardless, this remark can also be interpreted as an analogy for society. Hendrix, despite his unequivocal beauty, had difficulty discerning his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The Importance Of Planning For Disaster Response And How... 1) Describe the focus of the article and its relevance to project management. From a high level the focus of the article was the importance of planning for disaster response and how the lack of planning can have a serious negative impact on the effectiveness of providing relief to those in need. All of the information is relevant to project management in that providing disaster relief is a project much like any other project. The main differences are that it is more complex, requires immediate action, and is less tolerant of mistakes (scope change). Most favorable portfolios are not easy to deп¬Ѓne because of the combinatorial density of project combinations. In some cases, resources can be adjusted even for individual projects. With this insight, one can use marginal analysis to optimally allocate the scarce budget. • 38. American Barrick Resources Corporation Case American Barrick Resources Corporation Case a. Explain the value chain for gold mining firms (how can a mine create a competitive advantage relative to its rivals). What are the factors that may explain exceptional performance of ABX relative to the other gold mines? To create a competitive advantage, a mine has to properly manage its exposure to gold price fluctuations. This is not an easy thing to do since there are so many factors to consider: when, how much, and how to hedge the gold production. Firms in this industry differentiate themselves based on the risk managementstrategies they implement. Furthermore, mines should also be able to minimize the cost of gold production along with making large sunk costs. Operating in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For every 1% change in gold prices, how might its stock price be affected? How could the firm manage its gold price exposure without the use of financial contracts? If American Barrick wanted to protect itself from gold price exposure without the use of financial contracts, it could use natural hedges. One way to hedge against undesired risk is to match cash flows such as revenues and expenses. In other words, a commodity producer such as American Barrick, which has revenues payables in U.S. dollars and incurs cash outflows in a different currency, will try to match its outflows to its expected inflows in the foreign currency. Another way of hedging against risk is the purchase of insurance to protect against financial loss due to external influences. It is also common to hedge gold investments against fluctuations of the U.S. dollar. It is extremely important for commodity traders to know which currency is correlated with what commodity in order to be able to predict certain market movements; for instance, there is often a negative correlation between gold and S amp;P 500. c. What is the stated intent of ABX s hedging program? What are the arguments for managing gold price exposure? • 41. Corruption In Culture Why corruption is rampant in sport? Corrupt Culture Corruption has always existed in society and no country will get rid of it entirely. Many people considered that political corruption is a cultural issue. Some of them also stated that gift giving is part of our culture and often be used to quibble their corrupt acts (Larmour, 2012). However, people should not confuse gift giving with bribery or corruption and culture should not long be the excuse of culture. In fact, it is unreasonable to assume that political culture are inherently corrupt and rooted in any society. Political leaders violate social and political norms do not mean that there are no norms (Alatas, 1968). Corruption in politics is the result that political leaders rationally make and economically calculated. In this situation, culture does not play a vital role in this decision. Since corruption is not a cultural circumstance in politics, anti corruption programs might be efficiently implemented. This is because the prevention will not focus on the changes of culture, instead it could aim at the vulnerabilities of a particular moment in corruption history. However, corruption in sport is different from political corruption that there exists a specific and vulnerable environment for corruption. It is mentioned by Boniface (et al., 2012) that most players are trained and live in a closed environment. Under the tremendous pressure from medical advisors and sports management, their behavior are controlled and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Physics Of Running Essay Running is quite a brutal sport when it involves distance and proficiency. Force and distance influences how runners run their race in track. They use speed, strength, flexibility and stability. However, when a runner is running hard, the work creates more and more heat. The best way to release the heatis through sweating. With the elements of energyand temperature, the force created doesn t die and is regenerated through the race. By adding coolness in temperature and energy, muscles don t get locked. The last thing anyone wants is an overworked muscle. With an overworked muscle, you don t beat your time. A muscle can work up to around 25 hertz of energy just from generated heat. The speed he keeps throughout the race is about 30 miles per hour. Unlike the runners, he is able to let go of the heat with his resilient suit. Right out of the block, his work is above two thousand and six hundred watts. The force that he creates right out of the starting block is 2600 watts. This then impacts how much energy he uses in his 100 meter sprint. With this much force in speed, he creates 2 watts per hour and 11.6 HP of power, and earns the gold medal. Most runners in a sport run with a back like a pencil, while Bolt s height advances his air drag. His stamina, physique and many other factors help his torso push against the air drag. The force and work causes Usan bolt to win his races. When someone increases the speed, it is the shedding of heat that impacts the race. The shedding of heat is the renewed energy that keeps a leveled speed in the specified distance. Depending on the heat, one can always go the distance with their best shape and speed. Hurricane hunters are the people who find and detect storms that can cause potential harm and damage. The dropsonde hurricane detector is an instrument they use to calculate the intensity, humidity, air pressure, and other factors essential to predict the outcome of the storm. Hurricane hunters drop this instrument into the ocean, and immediately, information comes pouring in. According to Harriet Jane Caldwell, The devices fall to the ocean and transmit bursts of data to the airplane twice every second. (Caldwell, 10) The result of this is a more thorough analysis, as well as immediate updates on the severity of a storm. Caldwell also says, The data includes temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, as well as the speed and direction of winds. With that being said, a lot of the time Italians were then being taken advantage of for their labor and not speaking an ounce of English made things even more difficult for them. Many worked in ash barrels or even in dumpsters. They occasionally also gambled and police would have to get involved due to violence such as death. For many years, scientists believed that these glial cells played a passive role in the nervous system of vertebrates. This is why they were named glial cells because the Greek word glia means glue (Moyes 182). One type of glial cells that is part of the peripheral nervous systemis Schwann cells (Moyes 182). Collectively, these cells make up the myelin sheath and help repair any damage that might happen to the motor or sensory neurons (Moyes 182). In order for government to provide this security, it is necessary for government to be able to use its authority in any way it pleases. Locke and Mill on the other hand believe that government should be able to provide security for its citizens, but in order to do this government does not need to be large rather it should be limited. Thus, the question arises of how limited government should be in order to provide security. In this case, should government be able to use its authority in any way it pleases as Hobbes argues or should there be a limit placed on governmental power as argued by Locke and Mill? However, Hobbes believes that in order for a form of government to be created we must assign a single person to have authority (Hobbes 175). The sovereign, once assigned has total power absolute authority. It is only when we are willing to step out of the state of nature by giving authority to an individual do we create a form of government. This constructs a trade off between freedom and order. Hobbes says that in order for this trade off to be accomplished government needs to be gigantic. Mill, on the contrary, has a view of government that is similar to that of Locke s rather than that of Hobbes. The difference between Mill and Locke or Hobbes is that for Mill the State of Nature does not exist, that is to say that Mill assumes that authority has already and always existed (Mill 631). The way government should operate and how it should be run is where Hobbes, Locke and Mill differ. Hobbes believes that basically equal makes unequal meaning that, one person should be the sovereign and run government. Locke on the other hand believes that not a single person should be in charge of government but rather a group. The power should be located in an institution rather than a single person (Locke 313). • 49. Analysis Of The Novel A Short Story Short stories often present the single experience of a character or set of characters where its climax is marked by a moment of crisis, either in a literal or more emotional and spiritual sense. Unlike the novel, a short story does not provide the full details of the circumstances or backstory of the situation at hand, nor does it allow the reader to develop an in depth relationship with these characters. Despite its condensed form, the short storycan possess layers of subtexts and a sort of narrativeambiguity where pressure is placed on the reader to make something of these literary texts. To make sense of these subtexts, the reader should pay particular attention to the narrative voice being utilized because the narratorhas the ability to influence how a reader may respond to a literary text by setting up a perspective from which the reader sees it. To get a thorough analysis of a short story, the reader must analyze its narrator because the text s character is developed from the degree to which and the manner in which that identity is indicated in the text, and the choices that are implied (Bal 19). Evidence suggests that the experience a reader may get from a short story is mostly dependent upon how that story is presented. Mieke Bal refers to this as focalization, where the relation between who perceives and what is perceived colors the story with subjectivity (8). For instance, the psychology behind the supposed lovers behavior in D.H. Lawrence s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
