then these same students may look for similar alternatives that will not empty their wallets. These

How the Hippies Counterculture Transformed Music Essay
In the 1950 s and 1960 s, rebellion and music were synonymous. The 1950 s brought widespread
attention to a new kind of music coined as Rock n Roll . Because parents deemed the music as
sinful, the youth used it to establish an identity for themselvess. In the 1960 s, the rebellion was
given a collective charge when young adults voiced displeasure over the country s entrance into the
Vietnam War and the use of nuclear weapons. One group within this movement was coined the
hippies . This paper will discuss the beliefs of the hippies of Haight Ashburyin San Francisco,
California and illustrate how the hippiecounterculture transformed into an evolution of music, in
the making of protest songs and the new psychedelic sound. It will... Show more content on

Haight Ashbury had a history of being an entertainment center, capitalizing on San Francisco s
economic success in the Gold Rush.
In his book titled The Making of a Counterculture: Reflections on the Technocratic Society and Its
Youthful Opposition, historian Theodore Roszak described a counterculture as typically involving
disapproval or an attempted dismissal of those institutions which presently hold some level of
dominance, while simultaneously having hope for an improved life in a new society, in terms of
thinking and being. There has been some level of debate, discussing whether or not the hippie
movement of the 1960 s and 1970 s matched this definition. Was the movement solely a product of
the hippie s clustered university lifestyle, where common experimentation with drugs as well as
political activism served as their own sources of rebellion? This notion was argued by
anthropologist William L. Partridge, in his case study titled The Hippie Ghetto: The Natural
History of a Subculture.
Roszak argues in his book about a hippie rejection of technocracy: the system of organizations and
elite experts that influences society to attach itself to the importance of efficiency, rationalizing,
planning, and necessity, which hippies felt was clearly depicted by the nuclear arms race and fight
against communism between the United States and U.S.S.R.

Analysis Of The Poem Swells
In the first stanza of the poem, Swells, Ammons makes a connection between swell and
memories. Swell is the vehicle and is use as a way to describe the substance of a particular
memory. Memory plays a role as the tenor. The speaker believes there is a correlation in terms of
the size of the Swell in the ocean with the importance or impact of the memory; as the swell
increase in size, so will the memory significance. The stanzathen goes on to create an image for
readers with the words, Information of actions summarized (surface peaks and dribbles. One
possible reason the lines are written in this way is because the words create an imagery of contours
and functions of a human brain. Certain sections the human braincan retain information and
condense data into its most useful aspects.
In stanza two, ambiguity is more prevalent. Although there are some elements of abstruse,
Ammons uses specific words in repetition to create a degree of complexity for the poem.
Ammons uses words such as summary , deeper , longer , and length to convey the point. I
question why Ammons used these words, in particular, summary and deeper because the overall
second stanza conveys a message of an idea or item of great importance. Summary and deeper
contradicts that message because both words contrast each other. Summary generally means a short
version on main points of an idea or event while deeper is a term people use to compare two
objects or items. Although Ammons does not in any

The Problem With Subprime Mortgages And Minorities
The problem with Subprime Mortgages and Minorities
When it comes to buying a home there are a few things you need first. Of course you need
money , but what if you don t have the money but you want to get a home? Well you would apply
for a loan, but there are two loans you could qualify for and those two are known as prime loans
and subprime loans. There are far too many cases where there are well qualified people with the
credentials to get a prime loan but were denied, forcing them to settle for worse forms of credit
such as subprime loan. The problem is that it is unethical to even offer these subprime loans
because of the debt that it puts subprime borrowers in. Through my research I have gathered I have
determined that well qualifying minorities, in particular blacks and Hispanics, have been denied
prime mortgages based on race and prejudices, making them easier prey for less convenient loans
such as subprime mortgages, which results in higher default and foreclosure rates amongst minority
residences.
Subprime loans A subprime loan is a loan given to people who generally have bad to below
average credit and are charged with higher interest rates because of past credit history. Subprime
mortgages was designed to help those Americans who want to achieve the goal of homeownership
for low income minorities (Gorton 12). The unethical dilemma is that the lender has the choice to
decide whether to refinance or not at the end of the first period without the borrower

The Purpose Of The Education System
Schools have always been the cornerstone of American society and teachers the masons. However,
the motive of the educational system has been scrutinized over the years. There are many theories
about its purpose. From following school rules, to learning critical thinking skills, everything that
the schools facilitate and teachers teach are societal aspirations. These are the goals that are taught
to reach the underlying purpose. The purpose of the educational system is that of a political nature;
it is to produce citizens that are capable of maintaining and participating in a democracy.
From its inception, the American school system became a tool, a tool for our societal whims.

idea needs to be broken down into its components for further understanding. What does the word
compete mean? Upon reflection, it seems to conjure principles that lean towards producing
citizens to ensure America s ability to compete in a global economy. What does the word global
mean? The idea of someone who is global transfers that person s responsibility from their local
and national capabilities to a broader sense. It implies that regardless of location in terms of
geography, class, gender or ethnicity that a person s sole duty is to the world. (SkrbiЕЎ, 2014, p.
6). This is in strict contrast to the understanding of citizenship. So what does the word citizen
mean? One of the key features of citizenship is a explicit relationship to a political community
(Dower, 2000, p. 556). A citizen must have a nation, one in which legally recognizes them as
such. There is no One World Nation and therefore can be no global citizens. The concept of the
global citizen , its unexpressed convictions for now, remain just another aspiration that society
should reach for. One that will still be taught by the masons. Sadly, however, It will only take form
in a world that can nurture it and see it through to fruition. That world is still a dream. For now, our

Disadvantages Of Geothermal Energy
Introduction
Over the past several years the realization of a limited amount of renewable resources has pushed
for a more environmentally friendly form of utilities. This realization has shifted the mindset of the
consumer to prefer a more green and economical utility free home using sustainable energy sources.
The scientists at Whole Life Energy are analyzing the use of geothermal energy to meet the
requirements of our consumers and environment. This report covers what geothermal energy is,
different types of geothermal energy, and geothermal energy advantages.
What is Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is the routing of liquid filled tubing underneath the Earth s surface to absorb heat
. A small pump is used to circulate the liquid, so the heat can be extracted in the home or
business. The earth absorbs and stores about half the suns energy. Due to this massive absorption,
the earth maintains a fairly constant temperature of 45 70 degrees Fahrenheit at a depth of 6 feet
(Rinkesh, 2017). This constant temperature will allow our company to tap into a never ending
supply of heat production. Depending on the size of facility needing heating will determine the
depth of the tubing required to draw the appropriate energy. The EPA states, farther below the
surface, the temperature increases at an average rate of approximately 1В°F for every 70 feet in
depth (Renewable Heating and Cooling, 2016). This flexibility allows us the ability to customize
the conditioning

Urban Suburbs In California
California Suburbs California is a state with a lifestyle and identity all its own. One factor
contributing to California s unique singularity is the lay out of its cities and suburban areas. Unlike
many metropolitan areas, which built up, California spread out, creating a commuter culture of
loosely connected communities surrounding larger cities and urban areas. The popularization of
suburban neighborhoods gained prominence and momentum in the 1950s, following World War
II,and the influx of veterans returning home and starting families. That decade s economic growth,
attributed to government spending on the construction of interstate highways and schools, the
distribution of veterans benefits and the increase in military spending, left Californians with high
wages and low unemployment and inflation (The 1950s). These circumstances, combined with the
ingenuity of new developers regarding the layout, construction and affordability of economically
built homes, spear headed the creation of suburban communities in California. With thousands of
new homes being built and purchased and hundreds of people... Show more content on

the ease in which individuals could receive loans enticed hundreds of first time home buyers. For
many banks, the only prerequisites for qualifying for a loan was that they had a steady job and
their promise to keep up with the mortgage payments (Waldie). The location of the suburban
communities was also appealing to Californians. The distance of homes from the congestion of the
cities created a commuter based lifestyle, supported by the railroads and the influx and popularity
of new automobiles (Starr). Many people preferred the separation of the communities from the
hustle and bustle of the overcrowded cities and they enjoyed the remote locations of suburbs and

Poverty issues do not allow students and communities to have the necessary resources and

motivation and encouragement from positive role models who are educated. Fantuzzo,
LeBoeuf, Rouse Chen (2012) conducted a research task recognizing an achievement gap
between Blacks and Whites. This study took place within a large urban public school district
similar to ours and examined risks believed could be the cause of the problem of low
achievement in Black students. Some of the root causes posed were poverty and socio familial
risks led to poor academic outcomes. Black children who were maltreated, had high lead
exposure, uneducated parents or were born premature experienced under achievements in reading
and math. The research called for a collective effort. The school and community needed to act to
ensure race, gender, and place matter in educational policy. Black boys are in need of positive

Psychological Effects Of Sex Trafficking

DESCRIPTION OF PLANNED PRODUCT The proposed product is to create a payroll system.
The system will allow the employer to add and delete employee profile as well as updating other
information. An employee record would contain the following details but is not limited to
employee name, date of birth, address, contact numbers, national insurance number, emergency
contact details, medical issues, working hours, hourly rate and exemption reasons (such as sick
leave, maternity leave, annual holiday). These details are confidential and some are sensitive
(e.g. known disability). Therefore the employee record must be protected according to legal
legislations such as Data Protection Act (1998) and Disability Discrimination Act (1995) The
payroll system will be developed on Visual Studio and Microsoft SQL server. Visual studio is
chosen as the Integrated Development Environment (IDE) contains various programming
languages incorporated to it. By developing the system in Windows forms application, the user
will be able to interact with graphical user interface which is more comfortable and easier for
beginners (Peter Ritchie, 2012). Once they get experienced on working in such an environment;

ABSTRACT
Designing and embedding a watermark for VoIP is the main goal of this paper, A new model is
introduced and characterized by high robustness, high security and must be non perceptual. The
watermarking model is suitable for real time service and supports the needs of embedding the
watermark into the traffic of VoIP and its extraction additionally this model offers authentication
and integrity. The model based on digital watermarkingand steganography. Another factor was
taken in consideration; the amount of data used and its influence on the voice quality of service. the
model is implemented using C# code for both embedding and extracting the watermarking spite of
the intended cheating mechanisms that might complicate the send/receive conditions. In addition,
the model performance has confirmed its robustness and quality of service.

British North Americas Founded in the 17th century there were three major regions made up the

Within each region the way they lived, worked, worshipped and did business was different. The
North or New England Colonies consisted of states such as New Hampshire, Massachusetts and
Rhode Island. The Middle Colonies consisted of states such as New York, New Jersey and

thriving laborers and worldly city folk. The landscape of grain and the iron mines created a

Coal Mining In Madrid
There are not too many communities that can boast a 1500 year history in mining but Madrid,
New Mexico is one of them. First Native Americans mined the area for turquoise and lead. Then
came the Spaniards in the mid 16th century looking for silver and gold. Around the 1830 s large
amounts of coal were discovered along with placer gold deposits. The town of Madrid (pronounced
MAD rid), was established in 1869. It was once a ghost town for sale, now there is a small
population of 400 living people along with a number ghosts in Madrid, New Mexicocalling it home.

The breakdown of African society has been steadily increasing through the last century and still

The Second Coming written by William Butler Yeats, that is concerning the demise in some respect
of the African culture. The two pieces of literature shows from the African peoples point of view of

Textual Analysis Of Rhetoric
The word rhetoric has multiple origins, but it s mainly from French and Latin. The definition of
the word is meant to use to persuade or influence others. This was the study of principles and rules

Rhetoric is normally advertised we see on social media or T.V. aiming to try to persuade us to buy

Self efficacy One s belief in the likelihood of goal completion can be motivating in itself (Van der

capability to perform particular tasks. Task related self efficacy increases the effort and persistence

New Ideas Of The Enlightenment
During the early 18th century new ideas began to arise across Europe. For instance the idea of the
Enlightenment, which lead to new intellectual ideas, logical/factual mindsets that weren t seen as
much before and religious tolerance. Before this , close to everything was biblical based. However
to an extent the new ideas of the Enlightenment and religious tolerance displayed the religious
influence and corruption of Europe during the 18th century. Hark ye friend said the Orator, Do you
think the Pope is the antichrist? Truly i ve heard nothing about it said Candide; but whether he is or
not i want something to eat. Thous desvest nothing to eat (Voltaire, 18) This quote well
demonstrates the outrageous and uncalled for reactions of religious differences during this time.

brought up during a conversation between Candide and the guy from El Dorado when Candide
asks You have no monks among you to dispute,to govern,to intrigue, and to burn people who are

Abstract Consortium Bank A subsidiary bank created by numerous banks. A consortium bank is
created to fund a specific project (such as providing affordable homeownership for low and
moderate income home buyers) or to execute a specific deal (such as selling loans in the loan
syndication market) . (Investopedia, 2009)
The Consortium generally strengthens the individual bank s assets to meet their objectives. All
member banks have equal or proportionate ownership shares the member with the highest
percentage of shares has the leading authority. After the bank s objective is met the consortium
typically dissolves.

All these banks came together so as to invest in the Real Estate Sector that too in the East Lansing
area. The main focus of our Consortium is to finance inner city and mixed used projects.
Inner City Projects are basically for the redevelopment of the city so as to improve the urban
infrastructure, financial services, land tenure regularization, enhanced community capacity and
improvements in public safety. (Jackson, 2015)
Mixed Used Projects are any urban, suburban or village development, or even a single building, that
blends a combination of residential, commercial, cultural, institutional, or industrial uses, where
those functions are physically and functionally integrated, and that provides pedestrian connections.
(Jackson, 2015)
So basically we are interested in investing in any such project that is in the well fare of the city
of East Lansing as well as its residents. It can be a hospital, a residential complex, a commercial
office building, a school or any such project that enhances the real estate market of the city and
should be for the wellness of the residents of the city.
In this report further I am going to discuss about the Loan policies of the consortium for the Real
Estate Developers.
Why is a Consortium needed?
A syndicate bank is formed by multiple banks, for a particular purpose of financing a specific
project that is too big for an individual bank to finance on its own. Under this procedure the

Mastreatment And Physical Abuse In The Movie Precious
In the film Precious, this movie discuses a lot of maltreatment and physical abuse. This movie is
by far one of the worse because it deals with mistreatment and negative talk on an innocent
teenager who wants to be all that she can be, but she is insulted and told differently. Although it
may be a bad movie, I always hope that this will inspire other people like Precious to speak out
on what they are going through. There is a lot of drugs being used in the home and just plain out
disrespect. Claireece Precious Jones who is 16 years old grew up in Harlem during the late
1980s. All of the poor and dirty crime that happens, none of which affects Precious as much as
the constant mistreatment she receives at the hands of her brutally vile mother Mary. Precious
is treated as a slave, fixing food, washing dishes, and tending to her wretched master as the
worthless woman smokes, collects welfare, and watches TV. Precious lives a life that involves
many sociological issues that have unarguably caused her great pain throughout her young life.
Having endured poverty, sexual abuse, and verbal abuse her life has been far from perfect, but
she realizes the need to defeat these negative sociological factors to achieve a life that seems to
her as only a fantasy. During school, Precious tries very hard to blend into the background; she
dreams of being normal, gracing the covers of magazines, and sporting an arm candy boyfriend.
The feeling that I felt when I watched this movie breaks my heart because there are people in
this world that are indeed treated like this and this is very sad. It s very tough for teens and
children to go through life hurting and crying out for help. This is what Precious face. Perhaps
the most affecting element of the film is Precious refusal to demand sympathy. The movie tells
the story of Precious being abused and mistreated as a teenager, out of the apartment of cigarette
smoke and pig s feet and bed springs and casual cruelty and into the world of unimagined
possibilities. She s aided on the journey by a literacy teacher Ms. Rain, into whose hands she falls
after being expelled out of school and a social worker who digs up her history of abuse. This movie
was very depressing to watch. When it

COMM 440: Gender and Communication
Cydney Linch, Fall 2012
The Disney Princess
Gender seems to be a hot topic in our society; many people feel the pressure to conform to a
specific gender stereotype without really being aware of what they are or their influences on our
perception. So what is a gender role? A genderrole is the overt expression of attitudes that indicate
to others the degree of your maleness or femaleness. A common gender stereotype in our culture has
been that a woman s place is as a homemaker, and caregiver, while men are expected to provide
for their families. In today s world women have been able to shed some of the more traditional
roles, however the princess ideal still abounds within the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Both of these princesses are shown to be weak and powerless against their stepmothers. In
Cinderella, she never gets up the courage to confront her stepmom or stand up for herself.
I will now properly introduce to you the princess that started it all, the fairest of by far, Snow
White. Disney first released Snow White into the public in the1930 s. What set her apart was her
stunning beauty, something she has no control over, but was born into. Snow white was never seen
as anything more than a pretty face and a sweet nature. She was at the mercy of men, the dwarfs,
the huntsman, and the prince, to save her from an untimely death. Despite the warnings from the
dwarfs, and her current situation Snow went ahead and ate the poisonous apple from the disguised
witch. This only exemplifies Snow Whites weakness, and how easily she gives into temptation.
Snow White has a few talents which include, cooking, cleaning, and singing.
One of the most popular princesses, stayed out passed her curfew, came home missing a shoe,
and had lied to her stepmother as to her whereabouts. Cinderella is a princess that some would
say is a rag to riches story. I mentioned her earlier as being born into wealth, which is true
however she was treated as a servant and reaped none of the benefits. Cinderella is polite, obedient,
delicate, and last but not least beautiful. She lived and tolerated years of abuse from her stepmother
and stepsisters, never

Quality also leads to the decision of where to purchase from. Ice Fili is a good choice for quality
because it is one of their goals for service. Substitution: As a choice for an easy and inexpensive
snack ice cream can be easily substituted. Switching costs between alternatives are very low
because the consumer can service many products using what they already own. Also the end
consumer can easily choose to purchase yogurt, soda, chocolates, or other candies. Rivalry:
Rivalry is high in the Russian ice cream industry. Many companies exist to sell a highly
undifferentiated product. Imported brand are not only sold by the Russian market, but also
welcomed by government. The Ice Fili product is quickly perishable. These foreign companies
produce the product differently by adding preservatives which in the long run lowers costs due to
extended shelf life. Also the technology is more recent and more innovative in the foreign
companies, which, lets them have the top of the line products that Ice Fili is incapable of
producing without putting more money into new equipment. The companies that compete with Ice
Fili have another advantage because they choose to produce and market for a wider customer
base. They sell the ice cream at more places than just the kiosks that Ice Fili sells at, because they
produce more than ice cream. Lastly, the ice cream industry has no growth. In recent years they

The progressives believed that if given a chance the majority of voters would elect honest
respectable officials unlike those elected by the corrupt political machine but to do this they needed
people to vote. So they compiled numerous methods for increasing the participation of the average
citizen in political decisions. The secret ballot box, by using the method adopted by the Australians
the voter would not be manipulated by the political party that would affect a voters decision by
standing next to a ballot box and intimidating him or her. The progressive governor of Wisconsin
Robert La Follete introduced the method of direct primaries in which the majority vote would
elect the party candidates for the state and federal offices. This method was used to try to
minimize the power of political bosses to try to keep the corrupt officials from gaining office
once again. The direct election of state senators was also a plus for the progressives for many
years the senators had been selected by the vote of the state legislature. The corrupt state
legislature would then of course vote for the corrupt official for senate. After a while the senate

Complementary And Alternative Medicine ( Cam ) Essay
Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) had risen considerably in the past decades. The
use of CAM is widespread. Many individual countries have used the term for the CAM definitions
approach when discussing the practices and products. The interest and use of CAM in healthcare
systems are integrating various methods with origins outside of mainstream medicinefor treatment
and health promotion. Different countries have view and used CAM within their regulations.
Body
General definition of CAM
Firstly, one of the most widely used for CAM definitions is, the World Health Organization
(WHO)defined CAM as: a broad set of health care practices that are not part of a country s tradition
and not integrated into the dominant health care system. Other terms sometimes used to describe
these health care practices includes natural medicine , non conventional medicine and holistic
medicine. (World Health Organisation, 2004).Secondly, the US National Institutes of Health (NIH)
National Centre for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) come across with CAM
defined : as a group of diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products that are not
presently considered to be part of conventional medicine.Alternative medicine often refers to the use
of therapies as substitutes for biomedical treatment, and complementary medicine refers to the use
of such therapies in conjunction with biomedicine with CAM. (NCCAM, 2007).

Challenges Faced By European Enlargement And Integration
Challenging the challenges: The Eastern Enlargement was, and remains, a point of dispute
when arguing the costs and benefits. It provided numerous opportunities for the EU, but with
them came challenges, some of which could be argued were too much and too soon for the EU.
This chapter will engage the major challenges and benefits in the way they were presented by
dominant theories of EU enlargement and integration. To provide a clearer picture they will be
divided into two broad headings; economic and political. Money matters: As the planned
economy experiment of the Soviet bloc failed so it left scars in the economy of the CEECs. The
average GDP of the candidates was only 40% of the average member state GDP, while
representing approximately a third of EUs population and size. Comparatively, Spain s and
Portugal s GDP was 70% of that of Member states upon entering (Nugent, 2004). Such a divide in
income is troubling, to say the least, as the cost of development would now be shared among all
member states, leaving the older members to pick up the tab.Furthermore, the EU budget would
come under heavy strain, especially the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The CEECs had a
fairly undeveloped industry, seeing a large amount of the population employed in the primary
sector. The numbers here are quite staggering, the percentage of the population employed in the EU
in agriculture went from 5% to 12% after the enlargement (numbers taken from Eurostat data). To
deepen the problem,

Characteristics Of The Malaria
Malaria is starting to become one of the worlds most common infectious diseases and problem to
peoples health around the world. This report will highlight the importance of learning the signs and
symptoms of the Malaria disease, how to prevent becoming infected with it and how to treat it if
someone does come in contact with it. It will also describe the characteristics of the four major
types of Plasmodiumthat affects humans along with the the complete classification, pathogenesis,
how it is transmitted from one host to another, and who and what country is affected most from
this infectious disease. Within the Malarian disease, there are many species of the Plasmodium
parasites, and only 4 of those species affects the human population. Those species include the
Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium ovale, and Plasmodium malariae
(Wiser, 2011). There is various differences between these four, but they do all have one thing in
common and that is that they all form rings. The Plasmodium falciparum has numerous rings that
are smaller, it has no trophozoites or schizonts, it is also a crescent shaped gametocyte. The
Plasmodium vivax has a enlarged erythrocyte, Schuffner s dots, and ameboid trophozoites. The
Plasmodium ovale is similar to the Plasmodium ovale, it has compact trophozoites, fewer
merozoites in schizont, and elongated erythrocytes. The Plasmodium Malariae is a compact
parasite and it has merozoites in rosette (Wiser, 2011). To further identify this infectious disease, it
can be broken down into its taxonomic classification. It starts with the Kingdom being Protista,
Subkingdom being Protozoa, the Phylum being apicomplexa, the Class is sporozoasida, Order is
eucoccidiorida, Family is plasmodiidae, Genus being plasmodium and the species being
falciparum, malariae, ovale, and vivax. (Keas, 1999). The mechanism of Malariais from a

For many years, the Roman Empire was considered the most dominant empire ever, but they
were easily passed by the Mongolian Empire hundreds of years later. The Mongols were a vast

Romans were a vast Empire spread across Europe. The Mongols first started in 1279 and a huge
line of successors was born, each leading their empire to greatness. They were able to build a
huge empire and dictatorship and conquer most of Asia with their superior armies. The Romans
first started in 27 BC under the rule of Augustus and created a line of successors along with a
Republic. They were also able to conquer parts of Africa and most of Europe, until they could not
handle the power and were defeated in 476 C.E. The Mongols were a more dominant empire than
the Romans because they had a more stable government and a more dominant army.
The Mongolian Empire was able to create a stable government that worked well for them and also
used that government to achieve a lot. Genghis Khan granted religious freedom, abolished torture,
encouraged trade and created the first international postal system (GENGHIS KHAN). The
Mongolian dictatorship was able to do such amazing things with their government. They were able

Countrywide’s Unethical Business Dealings
Abstract
It would be convenient to start this research paper by stating that corruption is a challenge mainly
for businesses in developing countries and that it is unrelated to the current affliction of the
economy in the United States. It would also be convenient to claim corruption has declined in
America as a result of awareness raising campaigns and the numerous anti corruption laws. But none
of those aforementioned statements would be true. Corruption is not the exception, but rather the
rule in today s business practices. In 2004, Daniel Kaufmann, a senior fellow at Brookings
Institution and former director at the World Bank, calculated an index of legally corrupt
manifestations which is defined as the extent of undue influence ... Show more content on

Subprime lenders are lenders who, for a price, are willing to assume a higher risk than conventional
lenders to purchase or refinance homes (Setzer, 2004). Countrywide s tactics often led borrowers to
expensive and sometimes unfavorable loans that resulted in richer commissions for Countrywide s
sales forces, fees to company affiliates providing services on the loans, and a roaring stock price that
made Countrywide executives among the highest paid in America. Countrywide s entire operation,
from its computer system to its incentive pay structure and financing arrangements, was intended to

representatives to move borrowers into the subprime category, even if their financial position meant
that they belonged higher up the loan spectrum. Brokers who peddled subprime loans received

How Did Bob Marley Influence American Culture
Bob Marley and his reggae style music have not only reined supreme throughout Jamaica but
also throughout the entire world. Marley s music, style, philosophy and Rasta pride have,
overtime, become a culture itself. Through his Reggae style music he advocated love, peace,
hope, and unity and sought to promote equality among people in Jamaica and around the world.
Primarily, his music was based off of life and love and eventually the messages in his music
began to shift to correspond with the political violence occurring in Jamaica at the time. From the
beginning of his career to the end, his music was heavily influenced by the Rastafarian religion. He
used his religious values as the basis of his works and his motivation to strive to unite... Show more

Through methodology of close readings of Marley s musical lyrics and analysis of his life, this
study will focus on the different ways Marley s religious values, political stance, and musical
style influenced unity among the two conflicting political parties in Jamaica at the time, the
Jamaican Labor Party (JLP) and the People s National Party (PNP). Also, specifically, the
influence that his upbringing and his religion had on the formulation of his music and the
influence that it had on the world. Robert Bob Marley was born in St. Ann, Jamaica on February
6, 1945. Marley was the product of a white father and a black mother. In the famous documentary
Marley by Kevin Macdonald, Marley acclaims, My father was white and my mother was black,
they called me half caste1 or whatever (Marley 8:00). During this era, the unification among
blacks and whites was extremely looked down upon, and Marley greatly suffered rejection from
this characteristic. He also suffered from growing up without a father, which led him to live a life
in poverty and rejection from superior races (Gilroy 231). Living in the Trench Town2 of Jamaica,
Marley was exposed to Reggae, and through

The Role Of Enkidu In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
Written thousands of years ago, The Epic of Gilgamesh is an epic poem that documents the life of
Gilgamesh. As two thirds god, one third mortal, and King of Uruk, Gilgamesh claims to be the
most powerful man on Earth. With his fitting title, he built grandiose architectures, such as the
towers of Ishtar and Anu, walls, and gardens. However, his reign would soon be challenged by
Enkidu, a man made of clay and raised by the wilderness. A creation of Aruru, Enkidu was the
solution to the prayers of the citizen of Uruk. They hope that Enkidu will defeat Gilgamesh and end
his tyranny.
Upon learning that Gilgamesh was a selfish King, Enkidu sets out to defeat Gilgamesh. Their fight
in the city of Uruk was intense, as ground pulsing shockwaves shook

The Devil in the White City by Erick Larson Essay example
The pair of twins sat down in their homeroom class. One was gentle and charming, and the other
was intelligent and had a great future in store. Being twins one would think they were very alike
but secretly they were different. Sitting in homeroom no classmate would think that they were
sitting next to a new definition of evil. In The Devil in the White City by Erick Larson, he decides
to include different styles of ambition and appearance vs. reality to illustrate, that ambition can
break one or make one and everything is not what it seems. Larson s style is to add to irreverent
stories together so that the two major protagonists highlight each other s traits, one trait is their
ambition. Both Holmes and Burnham are ambitious but in two... Show more content on

His ambition was to create a game which involved the suffering of others. Killing people created
him a sort of pleasure, Holmes was enjoying himself. He had arranged the insurance fraud for
money, but the rest of it was for fun. Holmes was testing his power to bend lives of people
(Larson 355). Holmes always looked for people that he saw as weak and he used them to create
his game which to him was to see how far he could go in changing a person s life. While Geyer
was investigating the disappearances of the Pitezel children he said that all criminals had a
motive but no one really saw clearly what Holmes motive was. Later Geyer was drawn to the
conclusion of Holmes wanting to have power over people s lives. Holmes wanted to control
people and produce others a suffering as he did when Carrie Pitezel was put in a hotel by Holmes in
front of the hotel her children were in, without any of them knowing, that was his game. In the
novel both Burnham and Holmes had ambitions but both had very different ambitions, which led
their lives in different paths. Burnham by having the ambition to want Chicago to prosper became
America s best architect. Holmes ambition took him to jail and eventually to his death. The novel
The Devil in the White City, illustrates that everything is not what it seems using the character
Holmes and the creation of the World s Fair. Holmes was known as a charming doctor that
starstruck every woman that he laid an eye upon. It was said by

  • 3. How the Hippies Counterculture Transformed Music Essay In the 1950 s and 1960 s, rebellion and music were synonymous. The 1950 s brought widespread attention to a new kind of music coined as Rock n Roll . Because parents deemed the music as sinful, the youth used it to establish an identity for themselvess. In the 1960 s, the rebellion was given a collective charge when young adults voiced displeasure over the country s entrance into the Vietnam War and the use of nuclear weapons. One group within this movement was coined the hippies . This paper will discuss the beliefs of the hippies of Haight Ashburyin San Francisco, California and illustrate how the hippiecounterculture transformed into an evolution of music, in the making of protest songs and the new psychedelic sound. In his book titled The Making of a Counterculture: Reflections on the Technocratic Society and Its Youthful Opposition, historian Theodore Roszak described a counterculture as typically involving disapproval or an attempted dismissal of those institutions which presently hold some level of dominance, while simultaneously having hope for an improved life in a new society, in terms of thinking and being. There has been some level of debate, discussing whether or not the hippie movement of the 1960 s and 1970 s matched this definition. Was the movement solely a product of the hippie s clustered university lifestyle, where common experimentation with drugs as well as political activism served as their own sources of rebellion? This notion was argued by anthropologist William L. Partridge, in his case study titled The Hippie Ghetto: The Natural History of a Subculture. Roszak argues in his book about a hippie rejection of technocracy: the system of organizations and elite experts that influences society to attach itself to the importance of efficiency, rationalizing, planning, and necessity, which hippies felt was clearly depicted by the nuclear arms race and fight against communism between the United States and U.S.S.R. ... • 4. Analysis Of The Poem Swells In the first stanza of the poem, Swells, Ammons makes a connection between swell and memories. Swell is the vehicle and is use as a way to describe the substance of a particular memory. Memory plays a role as the tenor. The speaker believes there is a correlation in terms of the size of the Swell in the ocean with the importance or impact of the memory; as the swell increase in size, so will the memory significance. The stanzathen goes on to create an image for readers with the words, Information of actions summarized (surface peaks and dribbles. One possible reason the lines are written in this way is because the words create an imagery of contours and functions of a human brain. Certain sections the human braincan retain information and condense data into its most useful aspects. In stanza two, ambiguity is more prevalent. Although there are some elements of abstruse, Ammons uses specific words in repetition to create a degree of complexity for the poem. Ammons uses words such as summary , deeper , longer , and length to convey the point. I question why Ammons used these words, in particular, summary and deeper because the overall second stanza conveys a message of an idea or item of great importance. Summary and deeper contradicts that message because both words contrast each other. Summary generally means a short version on main points of an idea or event while deeper is a term people use to compare two objects or items. Although Ammons does not in any ... Of course you need money , but what if you don t have the money but you want to get a home? Well you would apply for a loan, but there are two loans you could qualify for and those two are known as prime loans and subprime loans. There are far too many cases where there are well qualified people with the credentials to get a prime loan but were denied, forcing them to settle for worse forms of credit such as subprime loan. The problem is that it is unethical to even offer these subprime loans because of the debt that it puts subprime borrowers in. Through my research I have gathered I have determined that well qualifying minorities, in particular blacks and Hispanics, have been denied prime mortgages based on race and prejudices, making them easier prey for less convenient loans such as subprime mortgages, which results in higher default and foreclosure rates amongst minority residences. Subprime loans A subprime loan is a loan given to people who generally have bad to below average credit and are charged with higher interest rates because of past credit history. Subprime mortgages was designed to help those Americans who want to achieve the goal of homeownership for low income minorities (Gorton 12). This idea needs to be broken down into its components for further understanding. What does the word compete mean? Upon reflection, it seems to conjure principles that lean towards producing citizens to ensure America s ability to compete in a global economy. What does the word global mean? The idea of someone who is global transfers that person s responsibility from their local and national capabilities to a broader sense. It implies that regardless of location in terms of geography, class, gender or ethnicity that a person s sole duty is to the world. (SkrbiЕЎ, 2014, p. 6). This is in strict contrast to the understanding of citizenship. So what does the word citizen mean? One of the key features of citizenship is a explicit relationship to a political community (Dower, 2000, p. 556). A citizen must have a nation, one in which legally recognizes them as such. There is no One World Nation and therefore can be no global citizens. The concept of the global citizen , its unexpressed convictions for now, remain just another aspiration that society should reach for. One that will still be taught by the masons. • 8. Disadvantages Of Geothermal Energy Introduction Over the past several years the realization of a limited amount of renewable resources has pushed for a more environmentally friendly form of utilities. This realization has shifted the mindset of the consumer to prefer a more green and economical utility free home using sustainable energy sources. The scientists at Whole Life Energy are analyzing the use of geothermal energy to meet the requirements of our consumers and environment. This report covers what geothermal energy is, different types of geothermal energy, and geothermal energy advantages. What is Geothermal Energy Geothermal energy is the routing of liquid filled tubing underneath the Earth s surface to absorb heat . A small pump is used to circulate the liquid, so the heat can be extracted in the home or business. The earth absorbs and stores about half the suns energy. Due to this massive absorption, the earth maintains a fairly constant temperature of 45 70 degrees Fahrenheit at a depth of 6 feet (Rinkesh, 2017). This constant temperature will allow our company to tap into a never ending supply of heat production. Depending on the size of facility needing heating will determine the depth of the tubing required to draw the appropriate energy. The EPA states, farther below the surface, the temperature increases at an average rate of approximately 1В°F for every 70 feet in depth (Renewable Heating and Cooling, 2016). This flexibility allows us the ability to customize the conditioning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One factor contributing to California s unique singularity is the lay out of its cities and suburban areas. Unlike many metropolitan areas, which built up, California spread out, creating a commuter culture of loosely connected communities surrounding larger cities and urban areas. The popularization of suburban neighborhoods gained prominence and momentum in the 1950s, following World War II,and the influx of veterans returning home and starting families. That decade s economic growth, attributed to government spending on the construction of interstate highways and schools, the distribution of veterans benefits and the increase in military spending, left Californians with high wages and low unemployment and inflation (The 1950s). These circumstances, combined with the ingenuity of new developers regarding the layout, construction and affordability of economically built homes, spear headed the creation of suburban communities in California. • 25. Mastreatment And Physical Abuse In The Movie Precious In the film Precious, this movie discuses a lot of maltreatment and physical abuse. This movie is by far one of the worse because it deals with mistreatment and negative talk on an innocent teenager who wants to be all that she can be, but she is insulted and told differently. Although it may be a bad movie, I always hope that this will inspire other people like Precious to speak out on what they are going through. There is a lot of drugs being used in the home and just plain out disrespect. Claireece Precious Jones who is 16 years old grew up in Harlem during the late 1980s. All of the poor and dirty crime that happens, none of which affects Precious as much as the constant mistreatment she receives at the hands of her brutally vile mother Mary. Precious is treated as a slave, fixing food, washing dishes, and tending to her wretched master as the worthless woman smokes, collects welfare, and watches TV. Precious lives a life that involves many sociological issues that have unarguably caused her great pain throughout her young life. Having endured poverty, sexual abuse, and verbal abuse her life has been far from perfect, but she realizes the need to defeat these negative sociological factors to achieve a life that seems to her as only a fantasy. During school, Precious tries very hard to blend into the background; she dreams of being normal, gracing the covers of magazines, and sporting an arm candy boyfriend. The feeling that I felt when I watched this movie breaks my heart because there are people in this world that are indeed treated like this and this is very sad. It s very tough for teens and children to go through life hurting and crying out for help. This is what Precious face. Perhaps the most affecting element of the film is Precious refusal to demand sympathy. The movie tells the story of Precious being abused and mistreated as a teenager, out of the apartment of cigarette smoke and pig s feet and bed springs and casual cruelty and into the world of unimagined possibilities. She s aided on the journey by a literacy teacher Ms. Rain, into whose hands she falls after being expelled out of school and a social worker who digs up her history of abuse. It provided numerous opportunities for the EU, but with them came challenges, some of which could be argued were too much and too soon for the EU. This chapter will engage the major challenges and benefits in the way they were presented by dominant theories of EU enlargement and integration. To provide a clearer picture they will be divided into two broad headings; economic and political. Money matters: As the planned economy experiment of the Soviet bloc failed so it left scars in the economy of the CEECs. The average GDP of the candidates was only 40% of the average member state GDP, while representing approximately a third of EUs population and size. Comparatively, Spain s and Portugal s GDP was 70% of that of Member states upon entering (Nugent, 2004). Such a divide in income is troubling, to say the least, as the cost of development would now be shared among all member states, leaving the older members to pick up the tab.Furthermore, the EU budget would come under heavy strain, especially the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The CEECs had a fairly undeveloped industry, seeing a large amount of the population employed in the primary sector. The numbers here are quite staggering, the percentage of the population employed in the EU in agriculture went from 5% to 12% after the enlargement (numbers taken from Eurostat data).
