Using Traditional Costing And Activity Based Costing
Many organisations have different products and services that they provide to their customers and it
can be extremely difficult to disperse costs between them. Some may prefer to distribute variable costs
evenly within cost objects or some may prefer to distribute costs per unit or batch taking into
consideration other factors such as machine or labour hours. There are two main systems used;
traditional costing and activity based costing (ABC). Included in this essay will be the definitions and
comparisons of the two costing systems as well as how activity based costing can lead to higher
profits. An example of a company will be given to see if adopting the ABC system can lead to an
increase in profits and will then finish with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is critical to find out the activities and the costs that occur from them so that they can then later be
allocated to a cost object (customer, service or product) that necessitates the activity to be taken ahead.
This technique is the more sensible approach for overhead allocation rather than just dispersing costs
based on machinery hours or direct labour hours.
Both traditional and activity based costing have identical models where by it starts with an overhead
cost account followed by first stage allocations to cost centres, then followed by a second stage of
allocations and finally ending at the cost object. A cost centre is a location to which overhead costs are
initially assigned (Drury, 2011, pg. 295). The major difference is in activity based costing where after
the first stage allocations instead of a cost centre it is allocated to an activity cost centre and during the
second stage of allocations activity cost drivers (a measure that has major influences on the cost of a
particular activity) are used rather than just direct labour or machine hours. The ABC system assigns
overheads to major activities whereas the traditional system overheads are normally pooled by
departments. This can be extremely beneficial to a company as they are able to spread the costs out
more because they can look more into depth of a specific product or service rather than just a
department helping

On the morning of November 4, 1979, revolutionary Muslim...
On the morning of November 4, 1979, revolutionary Muslim students overtook security at the United
States embassy in Tehran, Iran and occupied the building, taking everyone inside hostage. For the next
444 days the United States stood paralyzed with fear and anger as the diplomats were held as
prisoners. Immediately after the capture of the sixty five Americans public pressure began to mount on
the government to bring the captured citizens back home. President Jimmy Carter responded by
slapping sanctions on Iran and negotiating for the return of the hostages. At the same time he faced a
reelection battle in 1980 that certainly affected his response to the crisis, especially standing next to
Ronald Reagan, who favored shows of force to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1953 American intelligence agencies helped royalists led by the Shah seize power from the Prime
Minister in a coup de tat. After the coup the Shah made the country into an absolute monarchy. The
United States helped the Shah tighten his grip on power over the next twenty five years, training his
special police and providing financial and military aid. During this period the Shah used the secret
police to purge opponents and ruled with an iron fist. While he did bring significant reform to Iran,
including modernizing the country, many were resentful of his ties to the West and angrily saw the
reforms as attempts at Westernization. Popular support remained tepid and eventually led to protests
and a coup in 1979.
Following his exile, the Shah was a guest of a number of world leaders including the premiers of
Egypt, Morocco, the Bahamas, and Mexico. In October of 1979 the Shah required urgent medical
attention and was allowed into the United States for treatment despite warnings from the State
Department that allowing the Shah into the country could inflame tensions in Iran. Their warnings
proved prescient as Iranian revolutionaries used his admission as propaganda against the United
States. Revolutionary leader and autocrat of the new theocratic Islamic state Ayatollah Ruhollah
Khomeini, who had taken control of the revolutionary government, used

Physics And Physics Of Molecular Levels
Although Prof Cook had already pointed the direction of my research objective, however, I did not
have a clear picture about it.
He wanted to explore microscopic effects of the relativity in molecular levels which meant to find out
the difference of interactions within a molecule with or without relativistic considerations. Moreover,
when problems arising from computing the interaction between objects, even only considering
Newtonian effects, mathematics was not that powerful, which could not derive a precise solution for a
three body problem. Now we needed to consider interaction within a molecule, which had three bodies
at least, in terms of quantum and relativistic laws.
Facing the fascinating, but, daunting goal, I would have to take ... Show more content on

I had already deleted quit from my vocabulary.
Realizing it was a personal journey, by myself alone, nobody could replace my own effort, day in day
out, I went to the lab read books, or to the library seek relative articles. Read and thought, read again,
thought again, compared several books to try extract meaning of each concept and each equation.
Biting the bullet and clenching teeth I pushed forward. With a purpose in mind, I put my energy to
face the challenge.
Professor had never lost his patience. That is all right. Take as much time as you need, he would say.
Some times he even spent time to digest the essence of some articles step by step.
It was a typical day after I struggled a couple of hours, the text blurred, the symbols on the equations
seemed to crawl on top of each other. It was mind bottling ordeals.
Shaking my head, squinting my eyes, I tried to figure out the meaning of what I was reading, but I
failed.
Even though I had a strong background in physics and mathematics, however, unlike what I expected
as when in college days I had absorbed every new concept, every hard differential equation with ease,
being 36 years old, and away from demanding study for more than a decade, I found digging into
special theoretical monographs not only involved fundamental physics and math, but demanding of
deep thinking and hard grasping new abstract concepts.
In a restroom, I splashed cold water on my face and took deep breaths, I needed a break

The Influence Of Reality Television
Reality Television Educates Television has had an impact on our lives, bringing new information that
we probably haven t heard of before. It informs the viewers of lives of people who struggle with
themselves and shows the viewers how to solve them. Reality helps more people than does harm
because it educates on certain people s lives that need some educating on. These shows are improving
young audiences knowledge by spreading positive messages through blunt situations. For families, the
most viewed type of television is reality TV. The straight forward situations in the lives of the stars
show a perspective that presents a problem which is then solved by the end of the episode. When
people complain that there are fewer good tv shows for families to watch together, it s often assumed
that TV has become more vulgar and adult... TV has become more various and fragmented, it s
become more specific (James Poniewozik). Television has a certain group they want to target and that
has a message spreading positive awareness. Reality TV teaches the younger viewers on how to
handle life situations and the life of others that they might not know about. These messages inspire the
other party positively and develops more knowledge for the younger people. The spark of confidence
in the younger crowd is mainly from reality TV. Girls who watch reality tv ... thinking of themselves
as mature, a good influence, out going, funny and smart. More aspired to leadership than non viewers

Wilde Case Summary
Wilde V. City of Normal The new ordinance regulating short term rentals violates Ima Liddle Wilde
right to due process, and right of contract protected under the 14th Amendment. Normal, Illinois s city
ordinance makes the historic 3 story Victorian property valueless, and resulted in a taking of her
property violating the taking clause of the 5th amendment, while also violating her right to contract
with fellow citizen. In Lucas V. South Carolina costal council of 1992, Justice Antonin Scalia delivers
the court s opinion stating sacrifice all economically beneficial uses in the name of the common good,
that is, to leave his property economically idle, he has suffered a taking... (Lucas 1234). ... Show more

v. Parrish states The constitution does not recognize an absolute and uncontrollable liberty (Parrish
301) and that laws are required to safe guard the health, safety, and welfare of the people. If the city
can show a clear benefits the ordinance will have on the community, then liberty of contract argument
is not applicable to this case. In Muller v. Oregon (1908) in the opinion Justice Brewer states that the
state can restrict a person s right of contract without violating the 14th amendment provisions, and
again mentioning that contracts are not absolute and extending to all contracts . (Oregon 298) In this
case restrictions are only placed on rentals shorter than 30 days and requires the owner to reside in the
house. Even with the limitations placed on Ms. Wilde the property still has value, such as selling the
property or renting it longer than 30 days at a time. Justice Blackmun in dissenting in the Lucas case,
states the petitioner still can enjoy other attributes of ownership, such as the right to exclude others
(Lucas 1237). Because the property still has economic productivity, albeit with some regulation the
ordinance does not invoke a taking. In Nolan v. California Coastal Commission (1987) the Essential
Nexus was established, meaning a conditional permit may be constitutional if the owner is Page

Aesir Gods
Njord (pronounced NYORD; Old Norse Njörðr, whose meaning/etymology is unknown) is one of the
principal gods of the Vanir tribe of deities. He s also an honorary member of the Aesir gods, having
been sent to them during the Aesir Vanir War along with his son, Freyr, and his daughter, Freya. Freyr
and Freya s mother is Njord s unnamed sister, who, based on linguistic evidence, is probably Nerthus.
Njord was particularly associated with wealth, fertility, the sea, and seafaring in historical Germanic
religion.[1][2] A saying among the Norse peoples held especially wealthy people to be as rich as
Njord.
The tale in which Njord features most prominently is The Marriage of Njord and Skadi . Skadi, a
giantess, had come to the Aesir seeking restitution

Symptoms And Treatment Of Neuropathic Pain
Pain is a complex, unpleasant, and disruptive sensation. The day to day pain people experience from a
paper cut or a flu shot results from the activation of nociceptive receptors at the site of tissue injury,
which is known as nociceptive pain. Some individuals also have experience with a different type of
pain, one that is chronic, intractable, disabling, and it arises as a direct consequence of a lesion or
disease affecting the somatosensory system (Treede, 2008). This form of pain is neuropathic pain.
The term neuropathic pain is loosely used in the literature without a well defined classification system
and it broadly represents any syndromes with an underlying physiologic damage to the pain
transmission pathway (Treede, 2008). The causes of nerve tissue damage in neuropathic pain, whether
peripherally or central, are widespread. They range from nerve destruction during surgery or trauma to
metabolic disturbances, cancer, infectious diseases and other causes (Woolf, 1999). Common
symptoms suggestive of neuropathic pain are spontaneous or provoked sensory abnormalities such as
dysesthesia, paresthesia, allodynia, as well as complete sensory deficit in some cases. A few types of
neuropathic pain with manifestations in the head and neck region are trigeminal neuralgia,
glossopharyngeal neuralgia, post herpetic neuralgia and atypical facial pain. Dentists are in a unique
position where they are challenged on an almost daily basis to diagnose and treat pain in the orofacial

decides to take on his identity and travel to Little No Horse, a settlement where she ministers a group
of Ojibwa Indians for almost 80 years. To truly be Father Damien, she learns to get rid of certain
behaviors that are common to women. In becoming a priest, Agnes must abandon her sexuality to
fully encompass the character. The interchanging of man and woman continues throughout the story,

My Reflection Of My Fitness Program
I really enjoyed my fitness program because thanks to it I realized that I am good at doing physical
performance when I am motivated. In this occasion, I was motivated because when I set myself an
objective I make sure I accomplish it or at least I try very hard to accomplish it. Also, this was an
important work that I had to do for sports (it was practically the whole grading for this partial).
I liked this activity, and thanks to it I was able to rediscover myself an adapt a healthier lifestyle. This
activity showed me that I can do whatever I propose if I am motivated. It also showed me that I can be
a persistent person. It showed me that I can be a persistent person because sometimes, when doing my
fitness plan, I thought that the exercises were really hard, but I didn t give up. I worked hard, and I
persist on doing the exercises not matter how harder they were.
I think that I achieved my goals because I have more flexibility, my core muscles are stronger and I
consider that my cardiovascular system is in good shape. I can affirm this because now I have a better
performance in any physical activity than before. For example, last weekend we went to do yoga with
my family in a place called Aumau Yoga Studio. Before doing my fitness program, I wasn t capable of
doing a lot of different yoga poses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Issue Of Substance Abuse Essay
It is well known that any form of substance use can be fatal, but so can a lot of other things: choking,
accidents, health issues, and sheer bad luck. However, there is something special about substance
abuse fatalities from substance use are considered preventable. Take deaths associated with driving
under the influence of alcohol, lung cancer brought on by smoking, or heart attacks associated with
cocaine use. A person could die in a car crash, from lung cancer, or a heart attack without ever
touching alcohol, cigarettes, or cocaine respectively. However, there is an increase in death associated
with these items. The most curious part of this is the legal versus illegal categorization of substances.
According to the Center for Disease Control, tobacco is considered the leading cause of preventable
death (CDC, 2016). Yet, not only is it legal, a person in the U.S. can purchase cigarettes as young as
18, which is three years earlier than the legal age to drink alcohol. This knowledge leads to questions
about addiction and prevalence of substance use. Besides being readily available and highly addictive,
are there other factors in the use and abuse of legal substances and are they good indicators of illicit
drug use? There is clear evidence to support that children, adolescents, and adults learn and emulate
what they see on television. The American Academy of Pediatrics has done research and come to the
conclusion that the causes of adolescent substance use are

Jung, Gardner, and Freud Comparison Essay
In today s society, education is more liberal, allowing people to think for themselves and providing
them with a broader education. This differs from many years ago, when education was more
conservative. Education was very basic, consisting of only academic classes and no electives. People
with a more conservative education would never go against what they were taught. However, liberally
educated people of today can go against what they are taught, research it themselves, and make new
conclusions about their studies. A liberal education enables people to deal with the forces that control
their life. It frees them from the restraints in everyday life. Having such a broad education allows
people to deal with such forces. Four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of Gardner s liberal education, he was able to rise above those who received a more
conservative education. Carl Jung s essay, The Personal and the Collective Unconscious based itself
on a liberal education because it talks about psychology, which falls under liberal education.
Psychology is the study of mind and behavior. A liberal education allows people to study this;
however, a more conservative education would not because studying the mind is not essential in
academics. Psychology studies the things that people cannot see, such as conscious and unconscious
states. It also allows people to not have to accept what other people say. In the essay written by Jung,
he stated, If in such cases we pursue our observations systematically and without prejudice, we shall
find material which, although similar in form to the previous personal contents, yet seems to contain
allusions that go far beyond the personal sphere (345). Carl Jung did not agree with Freud s theory, so
he did his own research, and found Freud s research to be inconclusive. Because of his liberal
education and study in psychology, Jung was able to control the forces in his life and did not agree
with what was thought by Freud. Plato s, The Allegory of the Cave shows that the prisoners of his
story were unable to see the truth because of their lack of a liberal education. In fact, at first they could

Personal Statement Of Complishments For High School
I have always believed that students who see education with maturity and do their best while in high
school will succeed in their adult careers. As of this moment I am on the A Honor Roll and in the top
50% of my class rank. In my sophomore year I was inducted into the National Honor Society. Since
my sophomore year I have taken two PSEO classes, and throughout high school I have been in the
accelerated English and Math courses. Last spring I earned an ACT Composite score of 26. As a honor
student at the end of my high school career I hope to show that I hold high school records and test
scores with the utmost importance as a responsible high school student.
Extracurricular activities I have been involved in within school include Girls Tennis, Knowledge
Bowl, Speech, Yearbook and Fine Arts productions. Most notably I have been active in the music
department, specifically choir. In my freshman and sophomore year I participated in the Fantasia
Choir, and in my junior and senior year I participated in the Madrigal and Jazz Choir. In all of my
years in the high school I have participated in Large Group Festival in Kerkhoven, Minnesota and
Solo Ensemble in Benson, Minnesota. I have earned two Superior solo ratings, one excellent solo
rating, and one excellent duet rating. This January I will perform at Dorian Music Festival at Luther
College in Decorah, Iowa.

Home Ownership Of The Housing Bubble Crisis
A home is the biggest purchase and investment one can make in their lifetime. For decades, home
ownership has been silver plated with the aura of the American Dream. However, the lending crisis
and meltdown of 2008 in real estate prices across the nation took away the luster off that American
Dream for many. Now however, after reflecting from past mistakes, homeownerswho lost their homes
in the housing bubble crisis realize it takes a lot to obtain the American dream and are eager to reenter
into the home market as buyers. These boomerang buyers might just benefit withthe option of rent to
own amongst other options. Advantages to Boomerang Home Buyers Although many homeowners
were affected and lost almost everything, there s hope for them to move forward with the rent to own
option. This lets the buyer commit to an agreement with a willing seller to lease the property until they
can buy it. The rent to own option is appealing for boomerang buyers with many different
backgrounds. The option suits people who do not have a strong credit rating and therefore not
qualified to get a mortgage from their bank. Since qualification guidelines have become more
stringent, this helps out buyers who would have a hard time qualifying because individual sellers who
opt to entertain the rent to buy option would not be as demanding or strict as compared to lending
institutions.Rent to own appeals to those who do not have enough money for a down payment since it

The Debate Over Home Schooling
The Debate Over Home Schooling
What is home schooling, and who is choosing to be home schooled? In this serious time of concern
about the standards of the public education system, it is found that in the United States, the number of
parents deciding to home school their kids is increasing. These parents believe that the education
system provided by their local schools is unsatisfactory compared to what they could do at home.
Home schooling has become more common in the past thirty years and has even started a trend
throughout the states. An estimation of a 235,000 335,000 increase of the number of home schooled
children within twenty years was reported by the U.S. Department of Education. Since then, that
number grown to an astonishing number of 1.7 million, and should continue to grow at a rate of 15
percent a year. These numbers are considered low because it is not necessary in all states to notify the
Department of Education when parents decide to home school their children. Activists such as David
Gutterson explain home schooling as the attempt to receive an education at a place other than an
institution. Children who are home schooled spend most of a normal school day learning in the
environment of their homes. Unlike traditional schools, home schooled children s parents are their
teachers, which allows for variances in curriculum programs. Some parents choose to follow a more
traditional curriculum while others allow their students (children) to learn about

Lifestyles And Description Of Seahorses, Hippocampus
Seahorses, Hippocampus sp.
Introduction: The name of seahorses is given to about 40 species of marine fish that occur worldwide.
This group belongs to the family: Syngnathidae and the genus Hippocampus. The genus name comes
from the Ancient Greek whereas Hippo means horse and Kampos means sea monster. The name in
other Greek translation means bent horse. The size of this unique fish may reach up to 35 cm with an
estimated lifespan of about 5 years.
Distribution range: Seahorses are mainly found in tropical and temperate waters throughout the world.
Several seahorse species are found in Pacific waters from North America to South America as well as
in the Atlantic. Seahorses also occur in Bahamas, some European waters and in the Mediterranean
Sea. A given body of water may host seahorse species different from those in another water body.
Habitat: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The animals are characterized by long snouts which they use to suck up food. The eyes of seahorses
can move independently of each other.
Feeding habits: They have small mouths located at the end of its tube like snouts. Seahorses have no
teeth and no stomach. They use their elongated snouts to suck in their food that drifts by. While the
small shrimp like crustacean, mysid is their most favorite food, Seahorses feed also on plankton, small
crustaceans, and fish larvae which may float or crawl on the bottom within striking range. Their
excellent camouflage helps catching their prey. Because of the make up of their digestive system,
eaten food passes through their digestive systems quickly, and hence they must eat almost constantly
to stay alive.
Reproduction: In general, Seahorses are monogamy animals in which with some exceptions and
depending on species, mating partners remain as such for life time or at least during the breeding
season. Among the unique reproductive features, the male seahorse bears the unborn young till

says that everything will be fine at the right time or when someone has been fulfil his goals in life.
Like stories in the books or movies it only end when the character resolve all the problems his been
facing all the time. But when the story add another problem it means that the story is not yet been
done and should be continue until it find its way to be done. It also means like whatever happens in
your life, don t give up until you can reach your goal. Don t stop even you fail after all it s not yet the
end. As we grow older there are lot of things happens in our life, there are lot of problem that
challenge us to see how far can we go, how long can we endure it. In this quote tells us that no matter
what happens we should stand still and continue what we started to do. Sometimes we fail but it s not
mean that we should give up it means that it s not yet the end we should stand up and continue what
should we do until we solve every challenges that comes to our life. Honesty is a very expensive gift.

Research Paper On Becoming A Garfield
I am an just a seventeen year old with big hopes and dreams. I want to be proactive and achieve them.
On the other hand I want to become Garfield and eat nothing but lasagna all day long. The latter
sounds very appeasing, like a brochure to the best place on earth. Want to escape being a seventeen
year old, or better yet a human? Well you can! Just become a Garfield! As much as I would want to do
that, I know that my life span would be reduced to a vegetable. After watching the South Park episode
when Kenny becomes a vegetable, the desire to become one suddenly became less appealing.
So where am I going with this essay? Do I have a direction? Well, I do. My talent lies in humor and
writing so technically talents should be plural. Ever

2a. Provide information on your computing innovation and computational artifact.
Name the computing innovation that is represented by your computational artifact.
Describe the computing innovation s intended purpose and function.
Describe how your computational artifact illustrates, represents or explains the computing innovation
s intended purpose, its function or its effect. (Approximately 100 words)
The computing innovation that is being represented by my artifact is Email. Email is when you mail
someone a message electronically from your computer to their computer. Before the innovation of
Email, people needed to write a letter and add the address and stamp. Then put the letter into their
mailbox and wait for the postal service to pick it up. Once the postal service picked up the letter and
sorted out where it is going to go, it gets delivered to the recipient s mailbox and they can then pick it
up and read it. Now, that email has been invented, you can send the letter through email, which is a lot
faster and less time consuming.
2b. Describe your development process, explicitly identifying the computing tools and techniques you
used to create your artifact. Your description must be detailed enough so that a person unfamiliar with
those tools and techniques will understand your process.

A Social Science Research Project
Meggie! my mother hollered roughly, would you just take a few minutes to clean out your closet? I
could spy your tank tops from under that pile of smelly socks. Not to mention the mountain of dirty
laundry on that unmade bed is gross. I sighed and leaned against the sofa. But here comes my father
smirking beside me, Can you give me a kiss before you head off to school? Immediately, I grabbed my
keys and walked out of the house with my unzipped backpack, not bothering to even look at him.
Sometimes, I just wish my morning routine could have a slight change. To simply put, I really don t
want to walk out the house while rolling my eyes hard, at least not that often. As part of a social
science research project developed at UBC, I am now stranded on a small remote island. Surprisingly,
my cabin, particularly the closet is unnaturally clean. No dirty laundry in sight and the bed is
miraculously made every day. Although I have all the necessities of life, there is still something
missing. I feel lonely. My heart aches simply from my parent s absence. It is not until I have to spend
a year on this island, away from home that I finally realize how much I appreciate them more than I
already do. In order to get through the dreadful days, I m reminiscing about the two most important
people in my life.
Seeing cruises and boats sailing through the waves from my cabin windows, I can recall an early
childhood memory. I used to tell my mother, Look! Boats know how to swim just like

Bourdieu Cultural Capital Essay
Citizenship confers on an individual an ability to participate in democracy such as decision making
and inclusion in policy making processes, (Michels, 2011). Citizenship gives one participatory power;
in the decision making process of their country of origin, in the same way citizenship can be a form of
capital to an individual. Citizenship constitutes a strategically constructed form of capital which
manifests in formal (legal and institutional) and informal (practiced and cultural) forms (Bauder H.,
2008:315). People who possess a certain form of capital are able to distinguish themselves from others
who lack that form of capital (Bauder, 2008:318). Such distinctions can increase gaps in social class
orders and increase feelings of relative deprivation between migrant families and non migrant families
(de Haas, 2010).Capital forms the foundation of social life and dictates one s position within the social

a major source of social inequality. Rooted in the Bourdieu concept of cultural capital is the aspect of
social environment which he called the habitus . According to him, one s habitus will allow or not

The Media and Public Figures
Political Science 6, Laurie Houske
The First Amendment was first established to guarantee Americans with the basic civil liberties that
they would not be threaten by the government. With The First Amendment to the U.S Constitution
congress shall make no law.... abridging the freedom of the press guarantees the press to publish news,
information and opinions with out the government interfering. This also lets people such as
independent press companies the right to publish their own newspaper, mail newsletters, magazines,

rights to all kinds of media with publishing articles, broadcasting radio news, and much more. When
someone has the freedom to publish what he or she wants they are protected. It will most likely mean
the government won t censor reporters and journalist. Meaning the government has no control on
blocking certain material or preventing publishing of future work. Everyday in our lives we see the
media publishing news articles about a certain celebrity, person or recent news. Many of the times the
media will go to extremes to get the attention of the citizen of the US by releasing stories that can
either harm the reputation of a certain person or company. Since the media has the right to publish
anything they want such as valuable information or a certain opinion. Even on television the reporters

Energy Drinks In Sports Drinks
Problem and Purpose
The problem is that many people use and rely on sports drinks, many of which contain high levels of
calories coming from sugar. This is a problem not only due to the many headlines on the obesity
epidemic in this country, especially in regards to children, and how too many people eat too much
sugar and this leads to major health problems like obesity and diabetes. I and many others use these
beverages to refuel from an activity and feel more hydrated or just to enjoy, so I wanted to test these
products and other beverages to determine which of the beverages contain the highest concentration of
electrolytes. The purpose of this project is to see if there is the ability to gain enough electrolytes
without the need to use a beverage with high sugar/calorie content.
Hypothesis My hypothesis is that the beverages with the most electrolytes would have the least
amount of calories and the beverages with the least electrolytes will have the most calories because
calories in beverages are usually from sugar while electrolytes are made up of salt, calcium,
potassium. I think this because usually when something is salty (what electrolytes are made of) it
would be less sugary (what calories are made of) and vice versa.

Stereotypes Of Women In Great Expectations
In Manners Makyth Man, Reverand E.J. Hardy said Sweetness is to woman what sugar is to fruit. It is
her first business to be happy a sunbeam in the house, making others happy. True, she will often have
a tear in her eye , but, like the bride of young Lochinvar, it must be accompanied with a smile on her
lips, (Haluk). Women in the Victorian Era were expected to be everything a man wasn t. They were
expected to grow up with no education but of that which taught them how to be a young lady. From
the moment a young girl was born, she had her whole future and personality already planned out for
her; she would be ignorant, docile, domestic, nurturing, and one day, beautiful in all ways without
meaning. In the novel Great Expectations, Dickens ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joe and Miss. Havisham are terrible representations of a Victorian woman. A woman was literally the
servant of her children and husband, and she was required to be domestic, nurturing and docile,
(Haluk). In Mrs. Joe s home, she is the boss and takes great pride in the fact that she raised Pip by
hand and has threatened to do the same to her husband. This shows that Mrs. Joe is quite the opposite
of what the everyday Victorian woman was like in the home. Instead, Mrs. Joe is more like some
women today where it is not unacceptable for a woman to order around her children and husband .
Miss. Havisham didn t take care of Estella the way most mothers would have. Or, said Estella, which
is a nearer case if you had taught her [Estella], from the dawn of her intelligence, with your utmost
energy and might, that there was such a thing as daylight, but that it was made to be her enemy and
destroyer, and she must always turn against it, for it had blighted you and would else blight her if you
had done this, and then, for a purpose, had wanted her to take naturally to the daylight and she could
not do it, you would have been disappointed and angry, (Dickens, 326). Instead of nurturing her and
teaching her what love feels like, she showed her what pain was and created a weapon that would kill
any man she touched. In chapter eight of Great Epectations, Miss. Havisham says to Pip, You are not
afraid of a woman who has never seen the sun since you were born, (Dickens, 60).

the idea of society and one s own mindset misinterpreting a situation is expanded upon in this

Summary OfDear Matafele Peinam Poem
The poem Dear Matafele Peinam by Kathy Jetñil Kijiner is a tremendously moving poem about
climate change. To begin, two of the main symbols of this poem are the lagoon and hands. Firstly, the
lagoon symbolizes what the world could look like if people do not change. It shows the negative
aspects of the world, and it also highlights the direction Earth is going. This symbol can be interpreted
from the quote men say that one day / that lagoon will devour you (10 11). This implies that scientists
are claiming that the Earth is headed in the wrong direction, and change is necessary before Earth
devours its residents. Next, hands symbolize collaboration and change. Whenever hands were
mentioned, it was always associated with change. A few examples are hands reaching out / fists
raising up (62 63) and marching with signs / hand in hand / chanting for change NOW (80 82). These
are powerful statements about rallies and statements about change. The hands are symbols of how the
only way to save the planet for the future generations is to collaborate and work together to achieve a
common goal.
Furthermore, this poem heavily uses a mixture of literal and figurative imagery. One of my favourite
examples of imagery in this poem was hands reaching out / fists raising up / banners unfurling /
megaphones booming (Jetñil Kijiner 62 65). This quote allows the reader to imagine the protests and
the movements that people are trying to do in order to save the planet. That was a case of extremely
powerful and inspiring literal imagery as it shows people s fight for change. This is an example of
people who are fighting to save the planet for not only the current generation but for future
generations as well. There are also several examples of figurative imagery, the most prominent is
personification. An example of personification is they say [the lagoon] will gnaw at the shoreline /
chew at the roots of your breadfruit trees / gulp down rows of your seawalls / and crunch your island s
shattered bones (12 15). In this example, it is talking about the repercussions of climate change and
what the future will look like if people do not change. The use of personification helps the reader
understand the awful things that can

The Discovery Of The Logarithm
The Contributors of Logarithms
The discovery of the logarithm is a great mathematics breakthrough made by John Napier and Joost
Burgi. These two mathematicians had different concepts of the logarithms and its present use today.
John Napier s logarithms were published in 1614, while six years later, in 1620, Burgi s logarithms
were published (A REVIEW OF LOGARITHMS 2016). Both Napier and Burgi invented logarithms
in order to simplify mathematical calculations. To reach their goals, they used two different methods;
Napier used the algebraic method and Burgi used the geometric method. Although these two men had
discovered logarithms, they did not have the concept of a logarithmic base. The current definition
defines a logarithm as the power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Originally, the exponent notation was not used, but was a further developed method to explain Burgi s
concept. In conclusion, Burgi s discovery of relating geometric and arithmetic series is the reason why
he has a great contributor to the development of logarithms.
The other important contributor to the development of logarithms in 1614 was John Napier, a Scottish
mathematician. His incentive was to help in the multiplication of sine quantities. The entire sine was
the value of the side calculated of a right angle triangle with a large hypotenuse. In participation with
the English mathematician Henry Briggs, Napier transformed his logarithm into its present day shape.
The comparison of logarithms is between an L point moving consistently minus infinity, and an X
point moving from zero towards infinity at a speed proportional to its distance from zero. Napier s
discovery made a general relation between the arithmetic and geometric series; i.e., multiplication and
rising to a power of the values of the X point correspond to addition and multiplication of the values
of the L point, respectively (John Napier and logarithms 2016). For instance, in order to limit the L
and X motion, the requirement is that L=1 at X=10, additionally to that condition that X=1 at L=0.
The change had contributed to the logarithm known as the Briggsian at that time (Logarithms: The

The Plowman By Geoffrey Chaucer
In his description of the characters, Chaucer emphasizes qualities such as attire and physical
appearance as well as demeanor and content of character. For example, when Chaucer describes the
Summoner he says His face on fire, like a cherubin, / For he had carbuncles. His eyes were narrow (l.
642 643). Moreover, in terms of describing a character s morality, Chaucer stated in regard to the
Plowman that He was an honest worker, good and true, / Living in peace and perfect charity, / And, as
the gospel bade him, so did he (l. 542 544). The description of the Plowman poses an ironic mockery
of social standards within the Medieval society and church. The Plowman is viewed as a better
Christian steward than the clergy, signifying that the people with morality are poor and reside at the
bottom of the social pyramid. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chaucer recognizes and points out devious and manipulative traits in characters such as the Friar when
he says Therefore instead of weeping and of prayer / One should give silver for a poor Friar s care. /
He kept his tippet stuffed with pins for curls, / And pocket knives, to give to pretty girls (l. 235 238).
In this case, relative to many others regarding clergy, Chaucer s description is ironically allegorical. In
the instance of the Friar, the Friar is a member of the Catholic clergy. Members of the clergy are sworn
to adhere to the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. The friar is selling his authority to grant
forgiveness for monetary profit, a tactic that is greedy and immoral and, therefore, breaking the vow to
poverty. Moreover, the Friar is especially concerned with his looks because he meticulously tends to
his hair. What s more, the Friar is said to give gifts to pretty

Indian Camp and Soldiers Home Young Women as Objects Essay
Indian Camp and Soldiers Home Young Women as Objects
In Ernest Hemingway s short stories Indian Camp and Soldier s Home, young women are treated as
objects whose purpose is either reproduction or pleasure. They do not and cannot participate to a
significant degree in the masculine sphere of experience, and when they have served their purpose,
they are set aside. They do not have a voice in the narrative, and they represent complications in life
that must be overcome in one way or another. While this portrayal of young women is hardly unique
to Hemingway, the author uses it as a device to probe the male psyche more deeply.

Star Trek Influence On American Culture
In the 1960 s, it was common for families to spend their evenings around the television. They would
enjoy the broadcast media of the age, while also enjoying each other s company. This ritual became a
cornerstone of American family life. Television featured white families living the American dream;
something every American family aspired towards. Television was a vessel for entertainment, not for
challenging the status quo, but this would soon change for the better. On the evening of September 8,
1966, families with children gathered around their television, unaware that they would be witnessing
an event that would forever change mainstream American media. This event was the airing of Star
Trek. At the time it aired, America was immersed in the Civil Rights Movement. It was almost
impossible to imagine the country becoming a place where everybody, regardless of gender, race,
ethnicity, or beliefs, could be treated with equal respect. Star Trek was a crucial step towards giving
people hope, and allowing them to publicly see for the first time, the possibility of a better future. ...

Coaching has become more than just instructions, the expectations of creating leaders is now just as
important as performance. The education that goes into shaping coaches today takes creativity and
new technology to stay current with the ever changing landscape of sports.
The importance of educating coaches is vital to the success of the team and the athletes involved.
Having a strong foundation to build the team on starts with a coach who has taken the time to learn

There are several methods that will improve the education in coaching. There are three topics that will

the future has in store for changes within society, identities of coaches along with athletes, and the

  • 2. Using Traditional Costing And Activity Based Costing Many organisations have different products and services that they provide to their customers and it can be extremely difficult to disperse costs between them. Some may prefer to distribute variable costs evenly within cost objects or some may prefer to distribute costs per unit or batch taking into consideration other factors such as machine or labour hours. There are two main systems used; traditional costing and activity based costing (ABC). Included in this essay will be the definitions and comparisons of the two costing systems as well as how activity based costing can lead to higher profits. An example of a company will be given to see if adopting the ABC system can lead to an increase in profits and will then finish with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is critical to find out the activities and the costs that occur from them so that they can then later be allocated to a cost object (customer, service or product) that necessitates the activity to be taken ahead. This technique is the more sensible approach for overhead allocation rather than just dispersing costs based on machinery hours or direct labour hours. Both traditional and activity based costing have identical models where by it starts with an overhead cost account followed by first stage allocations to cost centres, then followed by a second stage of allocations and finally ending at the cost object. A cost centre is a location to which overhead costs are initially assigned (Drury, 2011, pg. 295). The major difference is in activity based costing where after the first stage allocations instead of a cost centre it is allocated to an activity cost centre and during the second stage of allocations activity cost drivers (a measure that has major influences on the cost of a particular activity) are used rather than just direct labour or machine hours. The ABC system assigns overheads to major activities whereas the traditional system overheads are normally pooled by departments. This can be extremely beneficial to a company as they are able to spread the costs out more because they can look more into depth of a specific product or service rather than just a department helping ... On the morning of November 4, 1979, revolutionary Muslim students overtook security at the United States embassy in Tehran, Iran and occupied the building, taking everyone inside hostage. For the next 444 days the United States stood paralyzed with fear and anger as the diplomats were held as prisoners. Immediately after the capture of the sixty five Americans public pressure began to mount on the government to bring the captured citizens back home. President Jimmy Carter responded by slapping sanctions on Iran and negotiating for the return of the hostages. At the same time he faced a reelection battle in 1980 that certainly affected his response to the crisis, especially standing next to Ronald Reagan, who favored shows of force to ... After the coup the Shah made the country into an absolute monarchy. The United States helped the Shah tighten his grip on power over the next twenty five years, training his special police and providing financial and military aid. During this period the Shah used the secret police to purge opponents and ruled with an iron fist. While he did bring significant reform to Iran, including modernizing the country, many were resentful of his ties to the West and angrily saw the reforms as attempts at Westernization. Popular support remained tepid and eventually led to protests and a coup in 1979. Following his exile, the Shah was a guest of a number of world leaders including the premiers of Egypt, Morocco, the Bahamas, and Mexico. In October of 1979 the Shah required urgent medical attention and was allowed into the United States for treatment despite warnings from the State Department that allowing the Shah into the country could inflame tensions in Iran. Their warnings proved prescient as Iranian revolutionaries used his admission as propaganda against the United States. He wanted to explore microscopic effects of the relativity in molecular levels which meant to find out the difference of interactions within a molecule with or without relativistic considerations. Moreover, when problems arising from computing the interaction between objects, even only considering Newtonian effects, mathematics was not that powerful, which could not derive a precise solution for a three body problem. Now we needed to consider interaction within a molecule, which had three bodies at least, in terms of quantum and relativistic laws. It informs the viewers of lives of people who struggle with themselves and shows the viewers how to solve them. Reality helps more people than does harm because it educates on certain people s lives that need some educating on. These shows are improving young audiences knowledge by spreading positive messages through blunt situations. For families, the most viewed type of television is reality TV. The straight forward situations in the lives of the stars show a perspective that presents a problem which is then solved by the end of the episode. When people complain that there are fewer good tv shows for families to watch together, it s often assumed that TV has become more vulgar and adult... TV has become more various and fragmented, it s become more specific (James Poniewozik). Television has a certain group they want to target and that has a message spreading positive awareness. • 9. Symptoms And Treatment Of Neuropathic Pain Pain is a complex, unpleasant, and disruptive sensation. The day to day pain people experience from a paper cut or a flu shot results from the activation of nociceptive receptors at the site of tissue injury, which is known as nociceptive pain. Some individuals also have experience with a different type of pain, one that is chronic, intractable, disabling, and it arises as a direct consequence of a lesion or disease affecting the somatosensory system (Treede, 2008). This form of pain is neuropathic pain. The term neuropathic pain is loosely used in the literature without a well defined classification system and it broadly represents any syndromes with an underlying physiologic damage to the pain transmission pathway (Treede, 2008). The causes of nerve tissue damage in neuropathic pain, whether peripherally or central, are widespread. They range from nerve destruction during surgery or trauma to metabolic disturbances, cancer, infectious diseases and other causes (Woolf, 1999). Common symptoms suggestive of neuropathic pain are spontaneous or provoked sensory abnormalities such as dysesthesia, paresthesia, allodynia, as well as complete sensory deficit in some cases. A few types of neuropathic pain with manifestations in the head and neck region are trigeminal neuralgia, glossopharyngeal neuralgia, post herpetic neuralgia and atypical facial pain. Also, this was an important work that I had to do for sports (it was practically the whole grading for this partial). • 12. The Issue Of Substance Abuse Essay It is well known that any form of substance use can be fatal, but so can a lot of other things: choking, accidents, health issues, and sheer bad luck. However, there is something special about substance abuse fatalities from substance use are considered preventable. Take deaths associated with driving under the influence of alcohol, lung cancer brought on by smoking, or heart attacks associated with cocaine use. A person could die in a car crash, from lung cancer, or a heart attack without ever touching alcohol, cigarettes, or cocaine respectively. However, there is an increase in death associated with these items. The most curious part of this is the legal versus illegal categorization of substances. According to the Center for Disease Control, tobacco is considered the leading cause of preventable death (CDC, 2016). Yet, not only is it legal, a person in the U.S. can purchase cigarettes as young as 18, which is three years earlier than the legal age to drink alcohol. This knowledge leads to questions about addiction and prevalence of substance use. Besides being readily available and highly addictive, are there other factors in the use and abuse of legal substances and are they good indicators of illicit drug use? There is clear evidence to support that children, adolescents, and adults learn and emulate what they see on television. The American Academy of Pediatrics has done research and come to the conclusion that the causes of adolescent substance use are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Jung, Gardner, and Freud Comparison Essay In today s society, education is more liberal, allowing people to think for themselves and providing them with a broader education. This differs from many years ago, when education was more conservative. Education was very basic, consisting of only academic classes and no electives. People with a more conservative education would never go against what they were taught. However, liberally educated people of today can go against what they are taught, research it themselves, and make new conclusions about their studies. A liberal education enables people to deal with the forces that control their life. It frees them from the restraints in everyday life. Having such a broad education allows people to deal with such forces. Four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of Gardner s liberal education, he was able to rise above those who received a more conservative education. Carl Jung s essay, The Personal and the Collective Unconscious based itself on a liberal education because it talks about psychology, which falls under liberal education. Psychology is the study of mind and behavior. A liberal education allows people to study this; however, a more conservative education would not because studying the mind is not essential in academics. Psychology studies the things that people cannot see, such as conscious and unconscious states. It also allows people to not have to accept what other people say. In the essay written by Jung, he stated, If in such cases we pursue our observations systematically and without prejudice, we shall find material which, although similar in form to the previous personal contents, yet seems to contain allusions that go far beyond the personal sphere (345). Carl Jung did not agree with Freud s theory, so he did his own research, and found Freud s research to be inconclusive. Because of his liberal education and study in psychology, Jung was able to control the forces in his life and did not agree with what was thought by Freud. For decades, home ownership has been silver plated with the aura of the American Dream. However, the lending crisis and meltdown of 2008 in real estate prices across the nation took away the luster off that American Dream for many. Now however, after reflecting from past mistakes, homeownerswho lost their homes in the housing bubble crisis realize it takes a lot to obtain the American dream and are eager to reenter into the home market as buyers. These boomerang buyers might just benefit withthe option of rent to own amongst other options. Advantages to Boomerang Home Buyers Although many homeowners were affected and lost almost everything, there s hope for them to move forward with the rent to own option. This lets the buyer commit to an agreement with a willing seller to lease the property until they can buy it. The rent to own option is appealing for boomerang buyers with many different backgrounds. The option suits people who do not have a strong credit rating and therefore not qualified to get a mortgage from their bank. Since qualification guidelines have become more stringent, this helps out buyers who would have a hard time qualifying because individual sellers who opt to entertain the rent to buy option would not be as demanding or strict as compared to lending institutions.Rent to own appeals to those who do not have enough money for a down payment since it lets them buy time to ... • 18. The Debate Over Home Schooling The Debate Over Home Schooling What is home schooling, and who is choosing to be home schooled? In this serious time of concern about the standards of the public education system, it is found that in the United States, the number of parents deciding to home school their kids is increasing. These parents believe that the education system provided by their local schools is unsatisfactory compared to what they could do at home. Home schooling has become more common in the past thirty years and has even started a trend throughout the states. An estimation of a 235,000 335,000 increase of the number of home schooled children within twenty years was reported by the U.S. Department of Education. Since then, that number grown to an astonishing number of 1.7 million, and should continue to grow at a rate of 15 percent a year. These numbers are considered low because it is not necessary in all states to notify the Department of Education when parents decide to home school their children. Activists such as David Gutterson explain home schooling as the attempt to receive an education at a place other than an institution. Children who are home schooled spend most of a normal school day learning in the environment of their homes. Unlike traditional schools, home schooled children s parents are their teachers, which allows for variances in curriculum programs. Citizenship gives one participatory power; in the decision making process of their country of origin, in the same way citizenship can be a form of capital to an individual. Citizenship constitutes a strategically constructed form of capital which manifests in formal (legal and institutional) and informal (practiced and cultural) forms (Bauder H., 2008:315). People who possess a certain form of capital are able to distinguish themselves from others who lack that form of capital (Bauder, 2008:318). This is a problem not only due to the many headlines on the obesity epidemic in this country, especially in regards to children, and how too many people eat too much sugar and this leads to major health problems like obesity and diabetes. I and many others use these beverages to refuel from an activity and feel more hydrated or just to enjoy, so I wanted to test these products and other beverages to determine which of the beverages contain the highest concentration of electrolytes. The purpose of this project is to see if there is the ability to gain enough electrolytes without the need to use a beverage with high sugar/calorie content. Hypothesis My hypothesis is that the beverages with the most electrolytes would have the least amount of calories and the beverages with the least electrolytes will have the most calories because calories in beverages are usually from sugar while electrolytes are made up of salt, calcium, potassium. I think this because usually when something is salty (what electrolytes are made of) it would be less sugary (what calories are made of) and vice versa. A woman was literally the servant of her children and husband, and she was required to be domestic, nurturing and docile, (Haluk). In Mrs. Joe s home, she is the boss and takes great pride in the fact that she raised Pip by hand and has threatened to do the same to her husband. This shows that Mrs. Joe is quite the opposite of what the everyday Victorian woman was like in the home. Instead, Mrs. Joe is more like some women today where it is not unacceptable for a woman to order around her children and husband . Miss. Havisham didn t take care of Estella the way most mothers would have. • 31. Summary OfDear Matafele Peinam Poem The poem Dear Matafele Peinam by Kathy Jetñil Kijiner is a tremendously moving poem about climate change. To begin, two of the main symbols of this poem are the lagoon and hands. Firstly, the lagoon symbolizes what the world could look like if people do not change. It shows the negative aspects of the world, and it also highlights the direction Earth is going. This symbol can be interpreted from the quote men say that one day / that lagoon will devour you (10 11). This implies that scientists are claiming that the Earth is headed in the wrong direction, and change is necessary before Earth devours its residents. Next, hands symbolize collaboration and change. Whenever hands were mentioned, it was always associated with change. A few examples are hands reaching out / fists raising up (62 63) and marching with signs / hand in hand / chanting for change NOW (80 82). These are powerful statements about rallies and statements about change. The hands are symbols of how the only way to save the planet for the future generations is to collaborate and work together to achieve a common goal. Furthermore, this poem heavily uses a mixture of literal and figurative imagery. One of my favourite examples of imagery in this poem was hands reaching out / fists raising up / banners unfurling / megaphones booming (Jetñil Kijiner 62 65). This quote allows the reader to imagine the protests and the movements that people are trying to do in order to save the planet. That was a case of extremely powerful and inspiring literal imagery as it shows people s fight for change. This is an example of people who are fighting to save the planet for not only the current generation but for future generations as well. There are also several examples of figurative imagery, the most prominent is personification. An example of personification is they say [the lagoon] will gnaw at the shoreline / chew at the roots of your breadfruit trees / gulp down rows of your seawalls / and crunch your island s shattered bones (12 15). In this example, it is talking about the repercussions of climate change and what the future will look like if people do not change. These two mathematicians had different concepts of the logarithms and its present use today. John Napier s logarithms were published in 1614, while six years later, in 1620, Burgi s logarithms were published (A REVIEW OF LOGARITHMS 2016). Both Napier and Burgi invented logarithms in order to simplify mathematical calculations. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Originally, the exponent notation was not used, but was a further developed method to explain Burgi s concept. In conclusion, Burgi s discovery of relating geometric and arithmetic series is the reason why he has a great contributor to the development of logarithms. The other important contributor to the development of logarithms in 1614 was John Napier, a Scottish mathematician. His incentive was to help in the multiplication of sine quantities. The entire sine was the value of the side calculated of a right angle triangle with a large hypotenuse. In participation with the English mathematician Henry Briggs, Napier transformed his logarithm into its present day shape. The comparison of logarithms is between an L point moving consistently minus infinity, and an X point moving from zero towards infinity at a speed proportional to its distance from zero. Napier s discovery made a general relation between the arithmetic and geometric series; i.e., multiplication and rising to a power of the values of the X point correspond to addition and multiplication of the values of the L point, respectively (John Napier and logarithms 2016). For instance, in order to limit the L and X motion, the requirement is that L=1 at X=10, additionally to that condition that X=1 at L=0.
