What Is The Principle Of Management Principles
Universality: Principle of management are universally applicable. Principles of management are
applied in every situation, where the objectives are attained through group efforts. All organizations
such as social, political, cultural or even religious organizations apply for the successful operations
of their activities. Every organization must make optimum use of its available resources by the
application of managementprinciples i.e., planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling
effectively and achieve the desired result. Flexibility:The principle of management are relative.
Management principles are dynamic guidelines and not satic rules. management helps the business
in multiplying its profit at minimum cost. The business situation and its socio economic
environment is enough to suit the size, nature, needs and situations of the business. Improvement
and modification of management principles is a continuing process, so the principles of
management is always flexible and can be molded.
General Statement: Management principles are concerned mostly with human behavior which
cannot be tested under controlled conditions i.e., a laboratory. Human behavior is always
unpredictable. So, management principles are not as exact as the principles of physical science. In
this way, the management ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Army ERP
The army s goals establish a clear sample of developing implementation strategies, and the
importance of identifying the ERP infrastructure components. To emphasize, it is important to
identify the risks and impacts of a vanilla or customized system implementation. For this reason,
some of the key goals and key considerations in the Army for using an ERP system were to
eliminate boundaries, synchronize transformation between the institutional and operational army
and identify opportunities to maximize the army at the enterprise level.
First, the Understanding ERP system life cycles from inception to operations and the effects on
today s organizations is fundamental to fulfilling the long term investment in an ERP system .
(Motiwalla, 2011, p. 154). With this in mind, some of key goals in the army using an ERP system
are the changes planned for optimization, integration and standardization of the processes within the
organization. Therefore, it includes the fast changing operational environment, remove boundaries

Galileo Research Paper
Galileo was a coward
Galileo was an Italian natural philosopher, astronomer, and mathematician, who made
fundamental contributions to the sciences of motion, astronomy and strength of materials and
to the development of the scientific method. His discoveries with the telescope changed
astronomy and paved the way for the acceptance of the copernican Heliocentric system.
Galileo, using his own telescope he discovered that the moon has mountains and creators.
Galileo found a new position at the university of Padua, teaching geometry, mechanics, and
astronomy. Galileo was a coward because he didn t stick up for what he believed and was

telescope at the planets and stars. What he has seen with his own eyes is proof enough of
Copernicus theory. The church was denounced Copernicus theory as dangerous to the faith
.Galileo learned that a dutch lensmaker had built an instrument that could enlarge far off
objects. Without seeing this device, Galileo successfully built his own telescope. after making
some improvements, he used his telescope to study to heavens in 1609. In 1610 , Galileo
published a series of newsletters called Starry messenger, which described his astonishing
observations. Galileo announced that jupiter had four moons, and that the sun had dark spots.
He also found out the the earth s moon has an uneven surface. Galileo s description of the
moon blew away Aristotle s theory that the moon and stars were made up of pure
substances(Roger B, 547).

Minority Report Essay
But Minority Report attempts so much more. It brings a spiritual angle into the story with
calculated deliberation. And that angle is the issue of predetermination versus free will, as
Anderton himself admits in the movie. A Detective from the U.S. Justice Department, Ed
Witwer, played by Colin Farrel, shows up to investigate the effectiveness of the precogs and to
search for the human error inherent in any such endeavor. He is sure there is such a weakness
because as he says, these are humans and humans can be wrong. Witwer is already convinced that
the future cannot be certain, therefore Pre Crime is not foolproof. It turns out that Witwer is an ex
student of Fuller Theological Seminary who got out of religious training to fight crime. He ... Show

In fact, Witwer points out that it doesn t matter how accurate oracles are, people make oracles out
of others even if there aren t any. Man is by nature religious and he constructs religious content to
explain otherwise unexplained natural phenomena. This is decidedly demythologization.
Demythology is a modernist western prejudice of the naturalistic worldview. Naturalism assumes
by faith that there is no transcendent spiritual aspect to reality. Everything has natural causes. All
spiritual beliefs are simply ignorant misinterpretations of natural causes into spiritual forces; wish
fulfillment. Demythology is the attempt to purge the mythic ignorance of a belief to discover the
true natural cause. This is a continuation of a theme that Spielberg explored in much more detail in
his rendition of Stanley Kubrik s A.I.2 This evolutionary worldview tries to redefine man as a
being who constructs or projects his own meaning of God and spirit onto what is actually a
meaningless universe of matter in motion. The belief in the afterlife is merely an extension of the
evolutionary survival of the fittest. As the originator of the precogs tells Anderton, When the chips

Narrative Essay On Encoding And Decoding
Having encoding and decoding has been the most challenging thing I have had to overcome.
When I was younger, I always wondered why it was easier for other kids in school. I was always
the kid that needed things explained three, four, maybe even five times and even then I
sometimes still struggled to understand the material. Why didn t I understand the lesson? Why
couldn t I follow along? What in the world was making everything so difficult? Little did I know
that I had a learning disability that is rare. Once I found out that I had encoding and decoding I
felt relief. I had finally found out why everything at school was so difficult. Though I had finally
found the answers I had been looking for, school work, reading, and music started to

United Parcel Service and Ups
United Parcel Service Executive Summary UPS has announced that after more than 90 years as a
private company, it was planning an initial public offering to become a publicly traded company.
In response to this, we will first analyze UPSВЎВ¦s business strategy and itВЎВ¦s sustainability of
its current performance. Then we will look at key factors to estimate the UPSВЎВ¦s market
capitalization value using FedExВЎВ¦s multiples as well as ВЎВ§best in breedВЎВЁ company
premiums. From this, we concluded that UPSВЎВ¦s IPO should create a market capitalization for
UPS between $17,520 million and $30,415 million. Evaluation UPS is the largest parcel delivery

If we benchmark UPS relative to best of breed(BOB) industry premium using FedEx as the
industrial comparable, then we come up with an average UPS market capitalization of $ 30,415
million. Using the 58% average BOB premium for the trailing price to earnings multiple, we come
up with UPS market capitalization of $21,985 million. If we use the 103% average BOB premium
for the market to book multiple, then we come with UPS market capitalization of $38,845 million.
UPS doesnВЎВ¦t seem like it deserves a BOB premium because its only has 15% higher net
income than FedEx where the BOB premium companies average over 200% higher net income than
the industrial comparable. But, since the last yearВЎВ¦s net income was negatively affected by the
tax court ruling we believe their net income in 1999 should be looked at without this one time write
off against their net income which would bring their net income more closer to what the BOB
premium companies average. Conclusion We believe the UPSВЎВ¦s actual market capitalization
and stock value lies somewhere between $17,520 million and $30,415 million. Although we believe
that UPS shouldnВЎВ¦t be fully valued using the BOB premium because of the uncertain future
business and financial prospects, we also donВЎВ¦t think just using FedExВЎВ¦s multiples as
benchmark for the UPSВЎВ¦s value captures the true market capitalization value for UPS.

The Creation Of A Life
The Creation Of A Life I don t know my name. I don t know my birthday. I don t have a family.
These are just a few of the things in my life that I created. I remember waking up to the light. The
brightest of lights was shining down on me. Looking around, I began to question my existence. I
couldn t remember anything. Actually, that s not true I remember dying; or at least I thought that is
what happened. The sensation of drowning was the only thing that remained clear in my mind.
But, as it turns out, I was wrong. I survived. I survived the hurricane that otherwise took everything
from me. I woke with a loud cough followed by a deep breath. Looking back, that breath was the

Comfort Women In Ww2
World War II was a gruesome era filled with violence and death. Each country was in a competition
to find the deadliest weapons. War crimes were highly prevalent throughout this time, such as the
Holocaust, inhumane experimentations, and the Japanese internment. One is often overlooked and
barely spoken of: comfort women. Comfort women were girls and women from Japanese
territories coerce into sex slavery for the Japanese military. The idea behind it was to prevent rape
and to reduce sexually transmitted diseases in the army; however, this came at the expense of
innocent women and girls. Women and girls were tricked or kidnapped to be raped. They were

former comfort woman, recalls, Several military men raped me that day. ... From that day on, the

did they have to experience rape, but also torture, starved, and forced to do labor.
For the comfort women, the hardest thing to do from their experience was to learn to cope with
the trauma if they had survived. According to the United Nations, Only about 25 per cent of these
women are said to have survived these daily abuses (39). They have to live their lives anguished
and ashamed for something they could not control. They would hide the truth from their families.
Many of these women developed mental disorders, like post traumatic stress disorder. Other
experienced infertility or had a physical disability. The worst part of the aftermath is the Japanese
government refusing to acknowledge this has ever occurred. De Brouwer, an author, has written,

atonement to the remaining comfort women, this strains the relationship between the Japanese

Euripides Hippolytus
Euripides Hippolytus shows three key themes that are significant to the play, by showing the
theme of lust, honour and betrayal which are shown from the lines 490 512, they set up the flow
of the play and relates directly to the dramatic conflict between the lust and continence of Phaedra
and Hippolytus, this scene shows Phaedra to be the true central character of the play since her
actions are pivotal to the fate Hippolytus and herself.
The extract epitomises the theme of lust. In the exchange the nurse encourages Phaedra to give in
to her lust to cure her feelings, I would never egg you on like this to get you into bed with your

This scene gives an insight in to the character of Phaedra as opposed to the effect Aphrodite has
had over her. The scene shows that Phaedra is disgusted by the nurse s insistence on bedding
Hippolytus, what an appalling thing to say! (Euripides, 2003, Line 498) Phaedra s reaction to the
nurse encouragement of adultery shows that her honour and virtue is of more importance, but she
is losing her battle, I shall be consumed in what I am trying to shun (Euripides, 2003, Line 506).
The nurse however does not see the implications that acting upon Phaedra s feelings would have.
This shows the significance of the scene as it sets the flow of the play and leads to the death of
both Phaedra and Hippolytus.
Betrayal is a theme throughout Euripides Hippolytus, in the exchange between the nurse and
Phaedra the theme of betrayal is alluded to, the nurse attempts to convince Phaedra to betray
Theseus by giving in to her emotions to cure her of her lust for Hippolytus. Phaedra is unwilling to
betray Theseus, but the nurse convinces her that using her love charm would do no harm to your
wits or your reputation ((Euripides, 2003, Line 511). This sets the theme for the rest of the

Glycolytic Pathway
Energy needed to function comes from the conversion of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to
adenosine diphosphate (ADP). To keep a continuous supply of ATP, ATP is resynthesized using one
of the three energy pathways. The three energy pathways are the phosphagen, anaerobic and aerobic
systems.
The phosphagen system known as the ATP CP pathway, uses creatine phosphate (CP) to
resynthesize ATP. CP re bonds ADP to produce ATP after it is broken down. The ATP CP pathway
is the quickest way to resynthesize ATP and is the predominant energy system used for short term
high intensity activities. Two exercises that utilize the ATP CP pathway are weightlifting and
sprinting.
The anaerobic system known as the glycolytic pathway, uses glucose to produce ATP. Glucose is
broken down into pyruvate through glycolysis to produce ATP. The amount of energy produced is
very little, but you get the energy quickly. The glycolytic pathway is the second fastest way to
resynthesize ATP and is the predominant energy system used for large bursts activities. Two
exercises that utilize the glycolytic pathway are powerlifting such as bench press and deadlift.

complex of the three energy systems. The oxidative pathway uses blood glucose, glycogen ... Show

Analysis Of Leon The Professional
Leon: The Professional (1994)
Leon: the Professional is considered to be one of the best action films of the 1990s. The film is
set in modern day New York and features Jean Reno as Leon, a professional hitman, and twelve
year old Natalie Portman as Mathilda, a neighbor of Leon in an apartment complex.
The film is, despite the tremendous age gap of the two characters, is a rather sensitive love story. A
film that is about people who have seen sights most people would never want to see, but need each

Leon drinks two quarts of milk every day. Leon drinks two quarts of milk every day. The film
introduces Leon as an ironic character, as his love for milk is visually also very ironic, in
contrast to his role as a master hitman. Milk represents Leon s paternal involvement for
Mathilda and his wholesomeness. Milk itself also represents those qualities such as: nurture,
care and a fluid of life. It carries a symbol as a fluid of innocence, in the case of the film, it s
symbolic towards both Mathilda and Leon s childhood. In many ways Leon is portrayed as an
more immature figure than Mathilda. Leon is a middle aged man who does know how to read or
write, and finds extraordinary pleasure from the most unornamented forms of entertainment, nor
does Leon have any desires of sex or relationships. 1Leon goes by to one rule no women no
children, regardless of earning 5,000$ per contract that is given to him. As a dedicated cleaner,
Leon without doubt does not want change in his life, but then as Mathilda realizes that Leon s
profession is a hitman, her mission becomes clear, to take revenge on Stansfield, for the death of

Homosexuality And The Effects Of The Stonewall Riots
The Stonewall Riots highlighted a key issue in the late 1960s American society. Homosexuality
was often seen as an illness and a sin to most people. For example, in April 1952 homosexuality
was deemed a sociopathic mental disorder by the American Psychiatric Association (CNN). This
idea was heightened in American society because it was being taught that being gaywas one of the
worst things an American can be; showing videos such as Boys Beware . This all changed after
the conflict at the Stonewall Inn; located in New York on Christopher Street. The Stonewall Inn
was the place where gays and lesbians would flock to, to feel accepted for once in their lives as
many of them ran away or were disowned by their own families. Even though Stonewall was a
place of freedom, it was also a place for fear as the police would constantly raid the bar to make
sure that alcohol was not being served to gays, as the New York State Liquor Authority deemed it
illegal to serve homosexuals. Lasting only three days, the riots were able to help start the
transformation of American society to become what it is today. The lack of a formal compromise
between the nation and the LGBTcommunity was an advantage for the effects of Stonewall to
spread as the conflict was able to bring a wave of acceptance and pushed many of history s gay role
models to feel inspired to stand up.
Unlike most issues in history there was no compromise for the Stonewall Riots. After the American
Revolution, the Treaty of Paris was there to help regulate the tension between America and
England, but for Stonewall it was just met with messy streets that needed to be cleaned up, injuries
on both sides, and the realization that there was a need for change. Treaties or compromises often
come with rigid details that confine the parties involved to follow very strict rules. For example,
The Treaty of Paris divided the land in North America between Spain, Britain, and the colonist,
kicking the French off the continent entirely (Treaty of Paris). If the events of Stonewall were
subject to the confinements that a compromise brings to a situation its strong influence and reach
that it had would have ultimately been cut short. The Gay Liberation Front is a prime example

Not all oils within the same viscosity have the exact specifications, most engine oil
manufacturers provide a specification data sheet that shows all the oil properties including
oxidation, bearing wear and much more. Experienced mechanics will recommend oil to be
chanted every three thousand miles or less. The reason for the three thousand miles or less
interval is because mechanics have seen thousands of engine failures due to long oil intervals or
no oil changes for years. Several owners drive years without changing the oil and later realize
that the engine oil has oxidized lost its viscosity and turned into sludge. Although a special high

Cortes and Bernal Diaz s Motives for Writing Their...
Q: What were Cortes and Bernal Diaz s motives for writing their accounts of the conquest? How did
these motives color their narratives of the conquest?
Record keeping has been around since the beginning of time. Even before humans existed, the
planet earth keeps detailed records of itself in rocks, trees, and ice. Writing of events has been very
important in the process of capturing, storing, and sharing information. Writing also allows the
document to be sent off to a far off land without the story being sent through multiple story tellers,
losing and gaining valuable details making it something of a myth. People write differently
depending on the recipient and what their motives are. As we look at the writings of

Diaz was proud of what he and his fellow conquistadors had accomplished. By writing about his
accounts of the conquest he hoped to receive some recognition and reward from Spain. The
possibility of power, and economical growth motivated these writings. But it was not all about
money for him. He was a hard working man who wanted everyone to know his and his fellow
conquistadors true achievements.
After he finished the project, he learned that others had published before his. Chronicles were
published by accomplished writers who had not seen the events first hand, and according to Diaz,
contained many errors about what had actually happened (

or no credit was given to soldiers who did the grunt work.
This publication motivated Diaz to write his second book, which he called The True history of the
Conquest of New Spain . He wrote this book in opposition of the publications which he thought to
be incorrect. He again hoped his accomplishments would be seen by those in power and

him. Because of the time between the events and his writing, many doubted the validity and
accuracy of its content. Diaz assured everyone that he was able to retain the memories of the battles

Dirt Bikes Essay
DIRT BIKES
There are two basic types of motorcycles. One type is made for riding on smooth
surfaces like roads or paved race tracks. These motorcycles are called road bikes. They
are heavier, faster, and more powerful than off road bikes. Off road motorcycles, or dirt
bikes, are lighter than road bikes. Dirt bikes are built to handle rough terrain like dirt,
mud, and rocks.
Not all people use dirt bikes for sport. Some people need their dirt bikes for work.

would be very difficult to move forward with just regular tires. Although on a paved
road they will give you an rather bumpy ride. Another important part of all dirt bikes is
long travel suspension. This includes the fork legs in the front and one or two shock
absorbers in the rear. Long travel suspension softens the ride over the big jumps. amp;#8220;All dirt
bikes have engines that are placed high in the chassis so they can clear obstacles suck as

Robots initially are aiming for helping people in different areas thus make people s lives become

created by humans. Just like the replicants in the movie Blade Runner , they are identical to humans
from their appearance and they all have emotions. Even some of them have memories.

like other humans. He wants to live and is scared to die. So he starts to solve his problem by
finding his father Tyrell. He at the time is not a replicant that can be controlled by humans
anymore, he is fearful and angry. He is able to fight for himself and his friends. Roy s plea to
Tyrell is simple, he just wants more life . Moreover, he kills Tyrell because Tyrell is not able to

Roy s final speech shows what he has seen in his brief life, and admits that all will be lost. At that
moment, he accepts his death, just like what he says All those moments will be lost in time, like

The African American Many Rivers We Cross Summary
Episode 5 titled Rise of the PBS series The African Americans Many Rivers We Cross , tells the
story of black Americans fighting for their rights. In this essay I am going to talk about key events
that took place, and my thoughts about them.
We first start of in the 1940 s where black Americans pursued economic opportunity in Chicago
through the Auto Industry. Where they could be paid a steady wage job. African Americans were
given the most dangerous jobs located in the foundry. A time in the middle of World War 2, where
due to labor demand the assembly line became integrated. Where segregation ran ramped, and they
was a lot of hatred toward blacks. In 1943 a race war broke out in Detroit. White Americans rioted,

He used the media in a way that would cause people to look at the unjust acts against the African
American citizens. Like in the case of the march on Selma. Where the visual impact of the brutality
towards African Americans caused an uproar. While Malcom X was a man who truly wanted to
confront the utter hypocrisy of what the government called law. And yet still have so much
inequality towards African Americans.
Then in 1965, the Voting Rights Act was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson. And
though this was passed into legislation the voting process were still rigged against African
Americans. A young man James Meredith began to walk along the south to spread awareness of
the challenges African Americans faced to vote. He was shot two days into his cause. The walk
was continued by Martin Luther King, and current SNCC leader Stokely Carmichael. This was the
beginning of a decline in nonviolent protest by Martin Luther King, and a more result driven
tactics by Stokely. Stokely Carmichael s approach to the civil rights movement. He wanted the
black Americans to embrace their rights and take their freedom. He starts to influence the people
with the phrase Black Power . You find the voice of the African American people change to a more

The Recollection Of A Failure In My Family
Not every family is as picture perfect as they seem. In my family, we like to take family photos
to show our growth and to get to see each other all together. While these family photos are always
pleasant beforehand, they turn out to be a total disaster. Just a couple weeks ago my family had our
pictures taken. The photos turned out extremely well, but if only the camera could see the turbulent
ride that led to a disaster at our house. There were so many people with attitudes and the
atmosphere was so chaotic that everyone was stressed out of their minds.
My first recollection of an event like this would be at my aunt Lori s house. Her husband, my cousin
, and her two daughters live there as well. My cousin is thirty five and her two daughters are
fourteen and nine years old. We also have a black lab that lives with us as well. To start out the
day we all have breakfast at home. Which consisted of french toast, sausage, and hashbrowns. At
this point in time everyone is happy. No attitudes, fighting, or even a scent of bad behavior. After
breakfast is where it starts to go downhill.
It s about 10:30 AM and pictures are at 12:30 AM. We all go our separate ways and start to get
ready and not even 15 minutes my two cousins are fighting over a small, pink, hair brush. A stupid
hair brush. Which is crazy because they have about twenty in the whole house and they only fight
over it because the other one has it. After about three minutes, the anger spread to their mother who

An Enquiry Concerning The Principles Of Morals Essay
What is a moral? This is a question that has plagued philosophers for many years. Is it possible
to have a set of universal morals? There are many questions that surround the mystery of morals.
They seem to drive our every action. We base our decisions on what is right and what is wrong.
But what is it that actually determines what is right and what is wrong? Is it our sense of reason?
Is it our sense of sentiment? This is a question that David Humespent much of his life pondering.
What exactly is it that drivesour actions? Yes, morals drive them, but what determines what our
morals are? What is it that ultimately drives our actions; our feelings or our minds?

a truth. To make an analogy to mathematics, truth is a function of reason, whereas taste is a
function of sentiment. Sentiment is a function of the individual whereas reason is a function of the
universe.
The universe as a whole must follow reason, but the catch is that each individual s universe is
slightly different in that each individual perceives his or her universe differently. quot; What each
man feels within himself is the standard of sentiment. quot; (p.14) That is to say each person s
individual universe has truths. These truths are based on reason. These truths/reasons are what help
to determine the person s sentiment. However, it should be noted that because the reasons are
NOT necessarily the person s sentiments, they do not motivate actions. One other reason why
reason does not impel action is because reason is based on truths. Truths are never changing
whereas sentiments are dynamic and are in a constant change of flux. At one moment, the criminal
could feel sympathy for his victims and decide to spare a life, and the very next, the same criminal
could become enraged at the pimple on a hostage s forehead and shoot him.
Of course these are extreme cases, but the point is clear. Reason would dictate that only the first
action would be moral. If reason drove actions, then moral behavior would prevail and there would
be no immoral actions and hence there would be no crimes.

With a gross domestic product (GDP) calculated at the equivalent of $11.06 trillion and an average

The Capet Mass And The Caput Mass
Homework #6
1.Define the Caput Mass and the cyclic Mass and identify which one is a type of the other.
Before delving into what the Caput Mass is, it s important to know it s origins and what
led to it s creation. One type of mass that was a predecessor to the the Caput Mass was the
cyclic Mass, which is a work featuring the major sections of the liturgy (the Ordinary) as one
musical (not liturgical) unit that includes a cantus firmus, modes, motives, or other
composititional procedures. The differences between the cyclic Mass and the Ordinary are
that the cyclic Mass doesn t contain the final Ite missa est, and the cyclic Mass isn t liturgical
because the components of it (Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei) are not united,
despite being unchanging. The cyclic Mass also became the major genre that composers
utilized during the 1400s to build their own works upon and allow their skills in emulation and
composition to shine, because the cyclic Mass was large and very complex in multiple parts.
In fact, due to how popular and monumental the cyclic Mass was amongst composers during
those days, the cyclic Mass is often compared to symphonies during the 18th and 19th centuries.
However, in a musical sense, the cyclic Mass and the 18th 19th century symphonies cannot
really be compared to each other because the movements of the cyclic Mass had to resemble

Topic 1A) The Python of the Kingdom Animalia, Phylum Chordata, Class Reptilia, Order
Squamata, Family Phythonidae is vertebrate with several diverse species (spp.) (Banks, 2004).
Topic 1B) The Python spp. is classified with Kingdom Animalia because they re heterotrophs and
exhibit motility. The Pythonspp. descendent from a chordata because they have a spine and
backbone developed from the notochord and dorsal nerve cord. The Python spp. is cold blooded
species and covered in scales. They have embryos or eggs that are covered by an amniotic
membrane. All phylogenetics are consistent with their relationship to lizards around 150 million
years ago in the late Jurassic Period (Strauss, 2016).
Topic 1C) There are different species of Pythons so their environments vary. The P. molurus
bivittatus inhabit Southeast Asia in jungles and grassy marshes (Society, 2014). The P. regius lives
in Africa adapting into farmland or grassland savannah. Most Python spp. are native to parts of Asia
and Africa (Gorzula, 1997). Some of the Python spp. swim and water features are important to their
environment such as the P. bivittatus. Juvenile P. bivittatus spent most of the time inhabiting trees

Gloucester, now aware of Regan s evil nature, wants to protect Lear from her. He is certain that
Regan would not hesitate to pluck out Lear s eyes given the chance. Gloucester implies it would be
more severe for Lear s eyes to be plucked out than his own beard. Eyes are much more vital and it
would also be significantly more painful to have them gouged out than to have one s beard plucked
out. Most importantly, Gloucester specifically describes Lear s eyes as poor old eyes. Illustrating
Lear s eyes as poor old eyes signifies how Gloucester sympathizes with him. It is clear he is very
saddened to see his friend treated so horribly. Gloucester also acknowledges Lear is getting older
and with old age, one s health such as eyesight can worsen or become poor. However, Gloucester
understands Lear s age is all the more reason why he should be respected, unlike Regan and Goneril.
After Gloucester finishes criticizing Regan, it is clear that his hostility towards Regan also
applies to her sister, Goneril. Gloucester s comments on Goneril are even harsher than Regan s.
For example, in the speech, Gloucester doesn t even refer to her as Goneril, but instead as thy
fierce sister. Gloucester thinks so poorly of Goneril that he does not believe she deserves enough
respect to be addressed by her own name. When Gloucester calls Goneril fierce, it describes her
cruel nature. He views her as a savage human because only a person so vicious would abuse

this means his rules include both the explicit (written out and specifically defined) ones such as

In the closet the wounded look on his face when Mr. Vernon told him he was basically scum
further strengthened my belief that deep down, he really believes all the things his parents and
the principle think about him. Since it is known that children who are told negative things about
themselves at an early age often come to believe it, and we know from John s outburst and the
cigar burn on his arm that this was likely the case for him, it s not difficult at all to believe that
this was how his low self esteem was developed in the first place. Odds are it was this constant
belittling by them and any negative reinforcement he got from other students and teachers like
Mr. Vernon that helped to solidify these beliefs about himself. John s public self, the one he

Points and the Russian Revolution played a major role. Mahandes Gandhi, an Indian nationalist,
led the movement toward independence for India. He was raised as a Hindu and studied law in
England. He was opposed to the idea of the caste or class system especially the exclusion of the
Untouchables. During his leadership, the British allowed the Indians to self rule , but this lifestyle

The Chinese were seeking the political structure of a republic. Through unequal treaties, foreign
states still remained in control of the Chinese economy. The Chinese expected the Paris Peace
Conference to end the treaty system. Instead, the conference permitted further expansion of
Japanese territory into China. The May Fourth movement publicly exposed that the Chinese were
opposed to imperialism. Through this movement, The Chinese Communist party and The
Nationalist Party was formed. The parties advocated things such as women s equality and
democracy. Japan emerged from the Great War as a world power. The Japanese economy was
stimulated as a result of the war. There was political conflict between the internationalists and the
nationalists. The Japanese had guaranteed the integrity of China to the Americans through the

The Evolution Of Egos
As with any new technology today, there must have been a magical experience for people back
in the day to witness and hear radio for the first time. It s oddly comforting in a way to know that
even with the ever changing hi tech gadgets of today, somethings over time, do not change. The
way people react to new ideas and inventions and how they impede those innovations. Egos can
get in the way of where a new idea ends up and how advanced that idea becomes. In addition, the
notion that something can be replaced with a newer and improved model has not changed in over
100 years. It seems that radio would have made faster and more advanced strides if it wasn t for
the egos of the three men that forged it. Lee de Forest, Edwin Armstrong,

Book Of Eli Themes
The Book of Eli is a Hollywood post apocalyptic, action and more of a Western movie
tremendously directed by the Hughes brothers. This movie is a popcorn flick full of action and
drama. It is more attention seeking, stimulating thoughts with minimal adrenaline rush. Denzel
Washington performing the role of Eli is basically a solitary nomad wayfaring in the wastelands
of America which were probably destructed by a nuclear war about 30 years ago. The
unembellished and plain background is littered with reckless cars, blown up highways, and
decomposing buildings. There is a shortage of water and food which are obtained through trading
of anything you are carrying with yourself and among the most demanding things there was wet
wipes. The movie shows... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not until the end of the movie does the viewer learn that Eli is at least partially blind, if not
completely without sight. He is unable to see the world. It is at this moment that his earlier
statement, walk by faith, not by sight, becomes more powerful. During the movie only two
characters are able to read from the Bible Eli and Solara s mother. The imagery is gripping in a
world desperate for the water of life only those who are blind can truly read from the book that
quenches that thirst. The Book of Eli is a powerful movie for those who can perceive its
message. Many will reject it for its religious themes, and others will reject it because it challenges
their religion. Some Christian s may reject the movie for it brutality and profanity. But for those
with eyes to see, the movie reminds us that the religious often contribute to the ugliness of this
world along with the secular. The film ends on a hopeful note encouraging religious tolerance and
the love and honor for the printed word. Though some may interpret this closing scene as all
religions being equal, I saw it more as a statement that the only way we can have peace and
resources to live is to understand and respect one another s

The Movie Departures From The Historical Record
Davis claims that her work is more historical than the movie because the film maker s departures
from the historical record. (Benson 57). That is, Vigne s work lacks from historical understanding
because he divires from the right direction due to several reasons including but not restricted to
ignoring the Basque region, neglecting religious issues, and disregarding complicity of Bertrande
except in the last invented scene when she gave water to judge, and she confessed to him. More
importantly, the trial would have been confidential not open to public. In addition, the movie
characterized with the complicity and vagueness, which made it hard to interpret. As reported by
Davis, the film s main problem lies in its failure to capture the... Show more content on

Basically, the film is there to make money, so the producers have to make it accessible to as
many people as possible. Undoubtedly, the film producers make their finishing touch in order to
make it appeal to the audiences. They added some changes, such as using wrong color robes for
the judges of the Parlement of Toulouse as well as omitting vital information, which affects the
original story by intention or chance in make it an artistic touch rather than historical touch. It
seems to me that Davis s book is more historical than the movie because she provides a detailed
description of the life of rural families during that time, and the journey of Martin s family from
the Basque region to the Artigat because of political and economic reasons. She goes more and
demonstrates the social circumstances of the French peasantry in the sixteenth century. At any rate,
Davis s account of both the trial and village life in Artigat is more historically accurate than the
movie. Davis brings the story to life as a historical achievement. That is why Davis writes her book
specifically to address the shortage in the film and to follow the historical evidence closely. It is
unquestionable that historians tend to be skeptical about their sources; it is the nature of any
historical work, when they address basic facts that happened in the past. Obviously enough, in the
most cases,

The Theme Of Marigolds InMarigolds, By Virginia Hurst
Guilt is like a sickness. If you don t get medicine, no matter how much you wait it out, the
sickness is staying with you. No matter how much time passes, if you don t deal with your guilt,
it will stick with you and never go away. The main character in Marigolds by Eugenia Collier ruins
an elderly woman s beautiful marigolds because of her own issues. The main characterin The
Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst leaves his handicapped brother alone in the woods and comes back to
find that he s dead. Lastly, the main character in The Cat s In The Cradle never takes part in his sons
childhood and comes to realize his boy is just like him when he gets older. These three pieces all
show a coexisting theme of how guiltsticks around forever if you don t deal with it.
Marigolds by Eugenia W. Collier perfectly demonstrates how guilt sticks around no matter how
much time has passed if you don t deal with it. In the story, the main character Lizabeth gets very
angry and destroys an elderly woman named Miss. Lottie s marigolds she had planted in her yard.
Before this, Lizabeth overheard her parents fighting and crying about their dire situation,
something she had never seen her strong, determined parents do before. Lizabeth took her anger
out on Miss. Lottie and her marigolds, she basically ripped the whole garden to shreds. The guilt
from doing this has stuck with her over the years. For example, as the author clearly states, Yet,
there are times when the image of those passionate

Persuasive Essay On School Shootings
School shootings strike into the heart of every American. The thought of innocent students, young
with limitless potential, being mercilessly mowed down wrenches one s heart. Yet these events
continue to happen. What could possibly drive a person to commit such a horrifying act? That
single question has created a fierce debate over the causes of school shootings and what should be
done to stop them. The many possible causes include lax gun control laws, poor mental health
services, poverty, culture, psychological thresholds, and even masculinity. They touch on sensitive
political issues that cause intense division. This divisiveness has prevented any federal action
from being taken to directly address the problem. However, it is important to set aside differences
and to act in a pragmatic manner. Although some may not like it, it is clear that the increasing
number of school shootings in the US is caused by a combination of weak gun control laws, and
toxic masculinity. Guns are created to kill. They have been used in many mass shootings and in
overwhelming cases, in school shootings. The crowdedness of school campuses make them lethal.
It is also no secret that the United States is the wild west when it comes to guns. According to
Samantha Gupta from the Harvard Political Review, American civilians own an astounding 270
million guns, more than the civilians of the 21 other countries that had school shootings own
combined. That is enough guns to give 84% of the population one each. This is caused by lax gun
control laws and the loopholes that exist within them. The failure of the US government to
implement universal background checks and bans on certain types of guns and ammunitions have
allowed potentially dangerous people access to lethal weapons. And these people wreak havoc.
From Gupta again, Out of all these countries that have experienced a school shootingin the given
time period, the average number of school shootings per firearmper capita is 0.111; America s
average is over five times higher.
Often, detractors will point to countries like Switzerland that have high levels of gun ownership yet
have almost no school shootings. While the Swiss do have many guns, they are not allowed to
possess

Symbolism In Wag The Dog
Representations of people and politics often reveal either the best or worst of our world.
How is this communicated in the texts you have studied? In your response, consider the
motivations driving the events in your texts.
Representations of people and politics reveals how cynical political agendas combined with public
passivity brings out the worst of our world. This is evident in Barry Levinson s 1997 filmic
representation of the fractured democratic system in Wag the Dog. Through filmic medium,
omission and symbolism, it reveals the disjunction between the belligerent appearance of politics
and its dark reality that uses mediated rhetoric to manipulate and endanger its dupable public in
order to further personal agendas. Thus, both composers utilise their representations to reveal and
caution against the unscrupulous political foundation of our society.
Levinson s representation reveals our society s corrupted political enterprise that manipulates the
public through fabricated media campaigns. In fact, Wag the Dog s plot revolves around the
commercial construction of a false war concocted by collusion of political operators like Breann
and Hollywood with the purpose of distracting the American public from their President s sex
scandal. Symbolically, Breann s decision to turn to Hollywood in the midst of a political crisis
suggests that the media form holds more power than the government. This power is reflective of
Levinson s context where pervasive 24 hour news

Half Day Vs. Full Day Kindergarten
Half Day Vs. Full Day Kindergarten: How a Southwest Washington Elementary School Score s
Measure Up The popularity of full day kindergarten (FDK) has grown over recent decades. The
number of students attending FDK in the United States (US) has escalated from 30% in the
early 1980 s to 55% by 1998 (Walston West, 2004), to 77% reported in 2011. This increase can be
posited as a reflection of societal changes and newly emerging educational priorities stemming
from papers and reforms such as 1983 s A Nation at Risk and 2001 s No Child Left Behind Act
(NCLB) which have increased focus on standards and accountability through high stakes testing.
The rigorous standards and associated accountability have created a demand for more time... Show

Most education stakeholders support the extended day of FDK because they believe it provides
long term and short term academic advantages, behavioral benefits, as well as support to parents
in the workforce. Length of Day There have been positive and negative outcomes found in the
literature associated with the additional time a FDK student experiences. Early childhood
theorists such as Piaget and Vygotsky speculate that larger blocks of time are necessary for young
children to engage in the process of learning (Eliott, Kratochwill, Littlefield, Travers, 1996).
Cooper, Allen, Patall, and Dent (2010) state that benefits of FDK include higher academic
achievement, fewer grade retentions, easier transitions into first grade, better socialization and self
esteem, less hurried instruction, fewer transitions, lower child care costs, more learning
opportunities for low income children, and greater academic quality. A major argument repeated
in the literature is the additional hours of kindergarten provided in FDK better prepares children
for first grade which will result in decreased need for grade retention (Wang Johnstone, 1999).
Ideally, the extra time in the school day allows for teachers to provide a relaxed classroom
atmosphere in which children can experience kindergarten activities in a less hurried manner
(McConnell Tesch, 1986). The literature posits several negatives to the extra time

The Geography Of Madagascar
Madagascar is a huge tropical island off the southeast coast of Africa. In the 1500 s, the first
person to have found Madagascar was the Portuguese explorer Diogo Dias. It is the fourth largest
island in the world and is surrounded by the Indian Ocean. The island was formed when it broke
away from Africa about fifty million years ago. Madagascaris known for its unique landscapes. It
covers 226,700 square miles. A steep cliff on the eastern coast is home to the country s remaining
tropical rain forests. The central part of the island is a plateau region. Most of the country s major
cities are located on these highlands. A chain of constructed waterways connects natural lakes and

The country s coastline is covered with national reserves designed to preserve the unique plants
and animals that draw visitors from all over the world. The Madagascar Spiny Thicket is an
unusual region in the south of the country. It is a cross between a forest and a desert. Most of
the plants in this region are found only in Madagascar. Some trees grow tall with long, sharp
spines and no branches, these are octopus trees. The famous Baobab tree has a fat trunk and
stubby branches. This helps them to store lots of water along with their leaves that help store
water as well. All of these characteristics help the plant survive for long periods without rain. A
Baobab tree can create its own ecosystem and support the life of many different other creatures. It
can support mammals all the way to thousands of tiny creatures crawling on its branches. Most
birds make a nest in its wide branches, baboons come to eat the fruit. Also bush babies and fruit
bats like drink the nectar and they also help pollinate the flowers on the tree. Elephants have been

Clara Machumann s Impact On Society
Franz Schubert is known to be one of the last classical composers and one of the first romantic
composer. Schubert s music is well known for its melody and harmony. Although he was a
fantastic composer, his music did not become as recognized until he had already passed. His
vocal contributions were written for both male and female voices, as well as mixed voices.
Schubert is considered to be a Romantic composer for many reasons, some being were that he
combined Romantic poetry and music, and that he was extremely emotional which led to his
melodies and feelings. Schubert s life and personality also were a huge impact that made him fit
into the Romantic stereotype. He came from a poor family and lived a miserable life. Throughout
his life, he was always known to be a loner which help him be the creative person he always was.
Schubert died very young at the age of 31 and was very sick; Syphillis.
Robert and Clara Schumann were a couple that were in love. Their story is full of music, love, and
marriage. Before marriage, they went through a difficult time of parental disapproval and gossip.
Schumann allowed his music to speak the depth of love he had for Clara. After getting married,
Clara s composition changed. She now has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

symphonies and various songs with orchestra, which drew together many different strands of
Romanticism. Mahler was one of those persons who was a bit difficult to work with. He had a
nasal, high pitched voice, was authoritarian and prone to anger, and he was a stickler for even
minor details. He was also know to use his art to express intense emotions. Looking toward nature,
literature, and the visual arts for inspiration, his music created during this time would go on to
influence later musicians with its exploration of richer harmonies and less concern with previous

Women Struggles During The 19th Century
Labarron Collins Professor Griffin ENG 251 02 25 September 2014 Women Struggles in the
19th Century Since the beginning of time women have struggled to prove themselves to society
so that people understand they are just as good as men. However, society has made a mockery
of women for years. Using women for sex appeal and for personal gains. Women were those who
stayed home cleaning, took care of the children, and prepared meals for the family. This sounds
quite familiar with today s society, but women today aren t only limited to these things. Not only
were women not allowed to work outside of home, but voting was off limits also. On June 4, 1919
the 19th amendment was passed by Congress. This honored all American women the right to vote.
This Amendment was approved on August 18th 1920. On account of women suffrage, women
should be granted equal rights politically and economically, especially after the hardship they
faced. Because of their contributions to society, women exclusively should be allowed to help the
country grow at an economical standpoint and politically while having the privilege of voting. At
the beginning of the 19th century, the rights of women were limited. She could not take custody of
her children in the event of divorce (Muntone) . This shows women had no power and men were in
complete control. For example, today women usually go through courts to fight for custody of their
children after a nasty divorce. Back in the 19th century this behavior

The Effect Of Parent Child Relationships On Human Development
Carr and Cortina provide a powerful explanation of Self Psychology, Heinz Kohut and John
Bowlby, working independently, contributed to a paradigm shift within psychoanalysis. Their
combined work dramatically changed the way many psychoanalysts understand the effect of
parent child relationships on human development, as well as the very nature of
psychopathology. This, in turn, transformed clinical practice as their ideas spread and many
analysts became more emotionally responsive, creating a friendlier, more respectful therapeutic
ambiance. (Carr Cortina, 2011, pg.42) Kohut was able to notice patients who were not doing
well with the classic Freudian theories and he began to listen to those same patients who were
suffering from low self esteem, lack of motivation and many difficulties on social and sexual
spheres. The presented patient s self concept includes the above descriptions of what Kohut
points out as well as, feelings of worthlessness, inadequacy, and helplessness which pervades
functioning in negative ways (Hepworth, Larsen, Rooney, Strom Gottfried, 2011, p. 209). And
some of that damaging thinking has led the patient to continue to self harm and abuse substances
because she feels that this is what she deserves and that it is too late to start her outlook on over.
The Guilty Man was also viewed very differently between Frued and Kohut. Frued viewed it as, a
person who was trying to negotiate id, ego and superego and how people felt guilty about id

Analysis Of Memento
Christopher Nolan s Memento follows Leonard Shelby in his vengeful quest to find the murderer
of his wife. Leo suffers from short term memory loss and traces any recent information and
memories through tattoos, notes, and photographs. Throughout the film, time is distorted yet linear.
Scenes in color are followed by ones in black and white. There is a sequential order to the film, but
it is not presented in that manner. Timeis treated as a changing, personal force rather than a solely
standardized, detached authority. This creates a beautiful dynamic within the film, for beauty, I
think, is seeing or portraying everyday concepts or things in a new light. My experience and

His goal is to uncover his wife s killer, yet he has to continuously remind himself that she s not
here. This dissonance is frustrating, consuming, gritty, and even ugly, yet it is beautiful. The beauty
arises from time s dismantlement. Standardized time looms over Leo and is real, yet his sense of
time is also real. The ambiguity and multiplicity of time in Memento challenges time s common
perception as undeviating and monotonous. This departure from the normal view of an everyday
concept exists within this scene and the entire film and, for me, make Memento

Galileo Research Paper Galileo was a coward Galileo was an Italian natural philosopher, astronomer, and mathematician, who made fundamental contributions to the sciences of motion, astronomy and strength of materials and to the development of the scientific method. Galileo s description of the moon blew away Aristotle s theory that the moon and stars were made up of pure substances(Roger B, 547). • 6. Minority Report Essay But Minority Report attempts so much more. It brings a spiritual angle into the story with calculated deliberation. And that angle is the issue of predetermination versus free will, as Anderton himself admits in the movie. A Detective from the U.S. Justice Department, Ed Witwer, played by Colin Farrel, shows up to investigate the effectiveness of the precogs and to search for the human error inherent in any such endeavor. He is sure there is such a weakness because as he says, these are humans and humans can be wrong. Witwer is already convinced that the future cannot be certain, therefore Pre Crime is not foolproof. In fact, Witwer points out that it doesn t matter how accurate oracles are, people make oracles out of others even if there aren t any. Man is by nature religious and he constructs religious content to explain otherwise unexplained natural phenomena. This is decidedly demythologization. Demythology is a modernist western prejudice of the naturalistic worldview. Naturalism assumes by faith that there is no transcendent spiritual aspect to reality. Everything has natural causes. All spiritual beliefs are simply ignorant misinterpretations of natural causes into spiritual forces; wish fulfillment. Demythology is the attempt to purge the mythic ignorance of a belief to discover the true natural cause. This is a continuation of a theme that Spielberg explored in much more detail in his rendition of Stanley Kubrik s A.I.2 This evolutionary worldview tries to redefine man as a being who constructs or projects his own meaning of God and spirit onto what is actually a meaningless universe of matter in motion. The belief in the afterlife is merely an extension of the evolutionary survival of the fittest. As the originator of the precogs tells Anderton, When the chips are down, ... United Parcel Service and Ups United Parcel Service Executive Summary UPS has announced that after more than 90 years as a private company, it was planning an initial public offering to become a publicly traded company. In response to this, we will first analyze UPSВЎВ¦s business strategy and itВЎВ¦s sustainability of its current performance. Then we will look at key factors to estimate the UPSВЎВ¦s market capitalization value using FedExВЎВ¦s multiples as well as ВЎВ§best in breedВЎВЁ company premiums. From this, we concluded that UPSВЎВ¦s IPO should create a market capitalization for UPS between $17,520 million and $30,415 million. If we benchmark UPS relative to best of breed(BOB) industry premium using FedEx as the industrial comparable, then we come up with an average UPS market capitalization of $ 30,415 million. Using the 58% average BOB premium for the trailing price to earnings multiple, we come up with UPS market capitalization of $21,985 million. If we use the 103% average BOB premium for the market to book multiple, then we come with UPS market capitalization of $38,845 million. UPS doesnВЎВ¦t seem like it deserves a BOB premium because its only has 15% higher net income than FedEx where the BOB premium companies average over 200% higher net income than the industrial comparable. But, since the last yearВЎВ¦s net income was negatively affected by the tax court ruling we believe their net income in 1999 should be looked at without this one time write off against their net income which would bring their net income more closer to what the BOB premium companies average. Conclusion We believe the UPSВЎВ¦s actual market capitalization and stock value lies somewhere between $17,520 million and $30,415 million. Although we believe that UPS shouldnВЎВ¦t be fully valued using the BOB premium because of the uncertain future business and financial prospects, we also donВЎВ¦t think just using FedExВЎВ¦s multiples as benchmark for the UPSВЎВ¦s value captures the true market capitalization value for UPS. ... Comfort women were girls and women from Japanese territories coerce into sex slavery for the Japanese military. Not only did they have to experience rape, but also torture, starved, and forced to do labor. For the comfort women, the hardest thing to do from their experience was to learn to cope with the trauma if they had survived. According to the United Nations, Only about 25 per cent of these women are said to have survived these daily abuses (39). They have to live their lives anguished and ashamed for something they could not control. They would hide the truth from their families. Many of these women developed mental disorders, like post traumatic stress disorder. Other experienced infertility or had a physical disability. The worst part of the aftermath is the Japanese government refusing to acknowledge this has ever occurred. Euripides Hippolytus Euripides Hippolytus shows three key themes that are significant to the play, by showing the theme of lust, honour and betrayal which are shown from the lines 490 512, they set up the flow of the play and relates directly to the dramatic conflict between the lust and continence of Phaedra and Hippolytus, this scene shows Phaedra to be the true central character of the play since her actions are pivotal to the fate Hippolytus and herself. The extract epitomises the theme of lust. In the exchange the nurse encourages Phaedra to give in to her lust to cure her feelings, I would never egg you on like this to get you into bed with your man. (Euripides, 2003, Line 494). The scene shows that Phaedra is disgusted by the nurse s insistence on bedding Hippolytus, what an appalling thing to say! The nurse however does not see the implications that acting upon Phaedra s feelings would have. Betrayal is a theme throughout Euripides Hippolytus, in the exchange between the nurse and Phaedra the theme of betrayal is alluded to, the nurse attempts to convince Phaedra to betray Theseus by giving in to her emotions to cure her of her lust for Hippolytus. • 13. Glycolytic Pathway Energy needed to function comes from the conversion of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to adenosine diphosphate (ADP). To keep a continuous supply of ATP, ATP is resynthesized using one of the three energy pathways. The three energy pathways are the phosphagen, anaerobic and aerobic systems. The phosphagen system known as the ATP CP pathway, uses creatine phosphate (CP) to resynthesize ATP. CP re bonds ADP to produce ATP after it is broken down. The ATP CP pathway is the quickest way to resynthesize ATP and is the predominant energy system used for short term high intensity activities. Two exercises that utilize the ATP CP pathway are weightlifting and sprinting. The anaerobic system known as the glycolytic pathway, uses glucose to produce ATP. Glucose is broken down into pyruvate through glycolysis to produce ATP. The amount of energy produced is very little, but you get the energy quickly. The glycolytic pathway is the second fastest way to resynthesize ATP and is the predominant energy system used for large bursts activities. The film introduces Leon as an ironic character, as his love for milk is visually also very ironic, in contrast to his role as a master hitman. Milk represents Leon s paternal involvement for Mathilda and his wholesomeness. Milk itself also represents those qualities such as: nurture, care and a fluid of life. It carries a symbol as a fluid of innocence, in the case of the film, it s symbolic towards both Mathilda and Leon s childhood. In many ways Leon is portrayed as an more immature figure than Mathilda. Leon is a middle aged man who does know how to read or write, and finds extraordinary pleasure from the most unornamented forms of entertainment, nor does Leon have any desires of sex or relationships. 1Leon goes by to one rule no women no children, regardless of earning 5,000$ per contract that is given to him. As a dedicated cleaner, Leon without doubt does not want change in his life, but then as Mathilda realizes that Leon s profession is a hitman, her mission becomes clear, to take revenge on Stansfield, for the death of her little brother. The music in film is The Dark Side of Time, the theme from La Femme Nikita, about a girl training to be an assassin. Mathilda desires to learn how to clean and is willing to work under Leon. • 16. Homosexuality And The Effects Of The Stonewall Riots The Stonewall Riots highlighted a key issue in the late 1960s American society. Homosexuality was often seen as an illness and a sin to most people. For example, in April 1952 homosexuality was deemed a sociopathic mental disorder by the American Psychiatric Association (CNN). This idea was heightened in American society because it was being taught that being gaywas one of the worst things an American can be; showing videos such as Boys Beware . This all changed after the conflict at the Stonewall Inn; located in New York on Christopher Street. The Stonewall Inn was the place where gays and lesbians would flock to, to feel accepted for once in their lives as many of them ran away or were disowned by their own families. Even though Stonewall was a place of freedom, it was also a place for fear as the police would constantly raid the bar to make sure that alcohol was not being served to gays, as the New York State Liquor Authority deemed it illegal to serve homosexuals. Lasting only three days, the riots were able to help start the transformation of American society to become what it is today. The lack of a formal compromise between the nation and the LGBTcommunity was an advantage for the effects of Stonewall to spread as the conflict was able to bring a wave of acceptance and pushed many of history s gay role models to feel inspired to stand up. Unlike most issues in history there was no compromise for the Stonewall Riots. After the American Revolution, the Treaty of Paris was there to help regulate the tension between America and England, but for Stonewall it was just met with messy streets that needed to be cleaned up, injuries on both sides, and the realization that there was a need for change. Treaties or compromises often come with rigid details that confine the parties involved to follow very strict rules. For example, The Treaty of Paris divided the land in North America between Spain, Britain, and the colonist, kicking the French off the continent entirely (Treaty of Paris). If the events of Stonewall were subject to the confinements that a compromise brings to a situation its strong influence and reach that it had would have ultimately been cut short. The Gay Liberation Front is a prime example ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How did these motives color their narratives of the conquest? Record keeping has been around since the beginning of time. Writing of events has been very important in the process of capturing, storing, and sharing information. These truths are based on reason. These truths/reasons are what help to determine the person s sentiment. One other reason why reason does not impel action is because reason is based on truths. Truths are never changing whereas sentiments are dynamic and are in a constant change of flux. The differences between the cyclic Mass and the Ordinary are that the cyclic Mass doesn t contain the final Ite missa est, and the cyclic Mass isn t liturgical because the components of it (Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei) are not united, despite being unchanging. The cyclic Mass also became the major genre that composers utilized during the 1400s to build their own works upon and allow their skills in emulation and composition to shine, because the cyclic Mass was large and very complex in multiple parts. In fact, due to how popular and monumental the cyclic Mass was amongst composers during those days, the cyclic Mass is often compared to symphonies during the 18th and 19th centuries. However, in a musical sense, the cyclic Mass and the 18th 19th century symphonies cannot really be compared to each other because the movements of the cyclic Mass had to resemble each ... Gloucester, now aware of Regan s evil nature, wants to protect Lear from her. He is certain that Regan would not hesitate to pluck out Lear s eyes given the chance. Gloucester implies it would be more severe for Lear s eyes to be plucked out than his own beard. Eyes are much more vital and it would also be significantly more painful to have them gouged out than to have one s beard plucked out. Most importantly, Gloucester specifically describes Lear s eyes as poor old eyes. Illustrating Lear s eyes as poor old eyes signifies how Gloucester sympathizes with him. It is clear he is very saddened to see his friend treated so horribly. Gloucester also acknowledges Lear is getting older and with old age, one s health such as eyesight can worsen or become poor. However, Gloucester understands Lear s age is all the more reason why he should be respected, unlike Regan and Goneril. After Gloucester finishes criticizing Regan, it is clear that his hostility towards Regan also applies to her sister, Goneril. Gloucester s comments on Goneril are even harsher than Regan s. For example, in the speech, Gloucester doesn t even refer to her as Goneril, but instead as thy fierce sister. Gloucester thinks so poorly of Goneril that he does not believe she deserves enough respect to be addressed by her own name. When Gloucester calls Goneril fierce, it describes her cruel nature. In The Breakfast Club, Mr. Vernon has the role of the Principle. Naturally this means his rules include both the explicit (written out and specifically defined) ones such as managing the school s staff, and creating and carrying out policies and procedures, and the implicit (implied) ones such as trying to guide his students down the right path and leading by example by being respectful and fair to his students. In the closet the wounded look on his face when Mr. Vernon told him he was basically scum further strengthened my belief that deep down, he really believes all the things his parents and the principle think about him. Since it is known that children who are told negative things about themselves at an early age often come to believe it, and we know from John s outburst and the cigar burn on his arm that this was likely the case for him, it s not difficult at all to believe that this was how his low self esteem was developed in the first place. Odds are it was this constant belittling by them and any negative reinforcement he got from other students and teachers like Mr. Vernon that helped to solidify these beliefs about himself. John s public self, the one he projects for others to see, as seen through his interactions and persona as a badass, is just that, the criminal . His ideal self, the one he really wishes he was, is probably that of the boy who can stand up to his father and scream f*ck you back at his father when he s being degraded. All that pent up anger that he exhibited during his skit of his home life probably wouldn t have been quite that forceful if it was really how he reacted at a time like that. She goes more and demonstrates the social circumstances of the French peasantry in the sixteenth century. • 45. Persuasive Essay On School Shootings School shootings strike into the heart of every American. The thought of innocent students, young with limitless potential, being mercilessly mowed down wrenches one s heart. Yet these events continue to happen. What could possibly drive a person to commit such a horrifying act? That single question has created a fierce debate over the causes of school shootings and what should be done to stop them. The many possible causes include lax gun control laws, poor mental health services, poverty, culture, psychological thresholds, and even masculinity. They touch on sensitive political issues that cause intense division. This divisiveness has prevented any federal action from being taken to directly address the problem. However, it is important to set aside differences and to act in a pragmatic manner. Although some may not like it, it is clear that the increasing number of school shootings in the US is caused by a combination of weak gun control laws, and toxic masculinity. Guns are created to kill. They have been used in many mass shootings and in overwhelming cases, in school shootings. The crowdedness of school campuses make them lethal. It is also no secret that the United States is the wild west when it comes to guns. According to Samantha Gupta from the Harvard Political Review, American civilians own an astounding 270 million guns, more than the civilians of the 21 other countries that had school shootings own combined. That is enough guns to give 84% of the population one each. This is caused by lax gun control laws and the loopholes that exist within them. The failure of the US government to implement universal background checks and bans on certain types of guns and ammunitions have allowed potentially dangerous people access to lethal weapons. And these people wreak havoc. From Gupta again, Out of all these countries that have experienced a school shootingin the given time period, the average number of school shootings per firearmper capita is 0.111; America s average is over five times higher. Often, detractors will point to countries like Switzerland that have high levels of gun ownership yet have almost no school shootings. • 46. Symbolism In Wag The Dog Representations of people and politics often reveal either the best or worst of our world. How is this communicated in the texts you have studied? In your response, consider the motivations driving the events in your texts. Representations of people and politics reveals how cynical political agendas combined with public passivity brings out the worst of our world. This is evident in Barry Levinson s 1997 filmic representation of the fractured democratic system in Wag the Dog. Through filmic medium, omission and symbolism, it reveals the disjunction between the belligerent appearance of politics and its dark reality that uses mediated rhetoric to manipulate and endanger its dupable public in order to further personal agendas. Thus, both composers utilise their representations to reveal and caution against the unscrupulous political foundation of our society. Levinson s representation reveals our society s corrupted political enterprise that manipulates the public through fabricated media campaigns. In fact, Wag the Dog s plot revolves around the commercial construction of a false war concocted by collusion of political operators like Breann and Hollywood with the purpose of distracting the American public from their President s sex scandal. Symbolically, Breann s decision to turn to Hollywood in the midst of a political crisis suggests that the media form holds more power than the government. This increase can be posited as a reflection of societal changes and newly emerging educational priorities stemming from papers and reforms such as 1983 s A Nation at Risk and 2001 s No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) which have increased focus on standards and accountability through high stakes testing. Most education stakeholders support the extended day of FDK because they believe it provides long term and short term academic advantages, behavioral benefits, as well as support to parents in the workforce. Length of Day There have been positive and negative outcomes found in the literature associated with the additional time a FDK student experiences. Early childhood theorists such as Piaget and Vygotsky speculate that larger blocks of time are necessary for young children to engage in the process of learning (Eliott, Kratochwill, Littlefield, Travers, 1996). Cooper, Allen, Patall, and Dent (2010) state that benefits of FDK include higher academic achievement, fewer grade retentions, easier transitions into first grade, better socialization and self esteem, less hurried instruction, fewer transitions, lower child care costs, more learning opportunities for low income children, and greater academic quality. A major argument repeated in the literature is the additional hours of kindergarten provided in FDK better prepares children for first grade which will result in decreased need for grade retention (Wang Johnstone, 1999). Ideally, the extra time in the school day allows for teachers to provide a relaxed classroom atmosphere in which children can experience kindergarten activities in a less hurried manner (McConnell Tesch, 1986). Women Struggles During The 19th Century Labarron Collins Professor Griffin ENG 251 02 25 September 2014 Women Struggles in the 19th Century Since the beginning of time women have struggled to prove themselves to society so that people understand they are just as good as men. However, society has made a mockery of women for years. Using women for sex appeal and for personal gains. Women were those who stayed home cleaning, took care of the children, and prepared meals for the family. This sounds quite familiar with today s society, but women today aren t only limited to these things. Not only were women not allowed to work outside of home, but voting was off limits also. On June 4, 1919 the 19th amendment was passed by Congress. This honored all American women the right to vote. This Amendment was approved on August 18th 1920. On account of women suffrage, women should be granted equal rights politically and economically, especially after the hardship they faced. Because of their contributions to society, women exclusively should be allowed to help the country grow at an economical standpoint and politically while having the privilege of voting. At the beginning of the 19th century, the rights of women were limited. She could not take custody of her children in the event of divorce (Muntone) . The Effect Of Parent Child Relationships On Human Development Carr and Cortina provide a powerful explanation of Self Psychology, Heinz Kohut and John Bowlby, working independently, contributed to a paradigm shift within psychoanalysis. Their combined work dramatically changed the way many psychoanalysts understand the effect of parent child relationships on human development, as well as the very nature of psychopathology. This, in turn, transformed clinical practice as their ideas spread and many analysts became more emotionally responsive, creating a friendlier, more respectful therapeutic ambiance. (Carr Cortina, 2011, pg.42) Kohut was able to notice patients who were not doing well with the classic Freudian theories and he began to listen to those same patients who were suffering from low self esteem, lack of motivation and many difficulties on social and sexual spheres.
