The loyalty and willingness to help shown by other women releases Phaedra from
her isolation and gives her an opportunity to be relieved of the terrible burden she
carries. It makes Phaedra a stronger character, because she is no longer only relying
on herself.
The nurse decides to tell Hippolytus about the queen s love, hoping this will solve
their dilemma. Even when Phaedra expresses her reservations about the solution, the
nurse dismisses her and forges ahead with her plan. This is the first sign of a
breakdown in their relationship; neither woman fully trusts the other to talk about
and agree on a solution. When the nurse s solution causes Hippolytus to fly into a
rage and condemn them both, Phaedra calls the nurse a corrupted, damned seducer
of [her] friends (682). When the nurse tries to defend the good intentions of her

finally took on a competitor. In 1978 the state of New Jersey legalized gambling
(Cardoza 15 17). Does gambling help our economy? When gambling was approved
in New Orleans it created 15,000 new jobs and brought in 25 million in city taxes.
In addition, it also brought in 67 million in state taxes each year. When South
Dakota needed $400,000 to replace water lines and another $50,000 to shape up a
failing wall on the reservoir they turned towards gambling. Nevada offers both
tourism and gaming. If the customers want it, Nevada can and should deliver
(Dambrink 7 9). Casinos do in fact improve the economy of states. In Mississippi,
gaming represented 25% to 33% of the new jobs created and employed
approximately 10,000 people in 1993. The number more than doubled in 1994 to

Army soldiers are every little boy s not only favorite toy but also a model of what
they want to be when they are older. At least they were for me, all I could think
about was how I wanted to be in the United States Marine Corps. I would be big,
strong, indestructible... but as I grew older I realized just how easily I could be
destroyed. Army soldiers turned into video games that featured drag races and
bloody battlefields. Once again, I felt indestructible and on top of the world. I
could win any race against my friends and in war games, I was the one who would
always have to save my friends lives. However, when I was twelve years old I
realized just how different life can be from video games, especially when life can
include drugs such as heroin. What started as an effort to be looked at as tough to
my friends ended with me waking up in a hospital after overdosing on heroin. This
quote on quote heroic act of being brave enough to try this drug put me into AA.
This is a decision that has stuck with me and plagued me since the very first
moment I tried it. Heroin is a highly addictive drug that is nearly impossible to stop
using and even harder to stop craving. All over the world there are other children as
well as adults who have not only tried heroin but are also addicted to it. Addictionto
heroin is a very real and serious matter and one that should not be taken lightly.
