The Life and Works of Margaret Atwood
An Examination the Life and Works of Margaret Atwood Born on November 18, 1939, Margaret
Eleanor Atwood was raised by Carl Edmund and Margaret Dorothy Atwood ( Atwood, Margaret
1939 . Concise Major 21st Century Writers). Born in Ottawa and raised in Toronto she spent the
larger part of her youth in Canada ( Atwood, Margaret (1939 ). Gothic Literature: A Gale Critical
Companion). As a young child she was raised in an intellectually stimulating environment and
was encouraged to pursue a life in which education is highly valued ( Atwood, Margaret. British,
Irish, and Commonwealth Poets). Her childhood played a pivotal role in her future life, including
her works, beliefs, and goals. Raised by an entomologist, her fondness of nature most was likely
extended to her from her father through means of family trips to the isolated safe havens of
Quebec and Ontario. These locations were the subject of her father s study and research ( Atwood,
Margaret. British, Irish, and Commonwealth Poets). From the year 1957 to 1961 she worked on her
undergraduate degree in English at Victoria college at the University of Toronto. Whilst studying
there, Atwood became influenced by Canadian poet Jay MacPherson and by Northrop Frye. They
encouraged Atwood to write poetry in her early writing career and pointed her toward using biblical
and mythological symbols and archetype, which are still prevalent in her writing ( Atwood,
Margaret. British, Irish, and Commonwealth Poets). During that time

Research Paper On Sulfur
I choose Sulfur because of it s bright yellow color which really catches your attention. I also found
it very interesting how much damage sulfur really is to the human. Plus is a very hard element to
locate due to the fact that it can mainly be found by hot springs or volcanoes. Sulfur, also spelled
sulphur, is a chemical elementwith the symbol S and atomic number of 16. It is an abundant non
metaland at room temperature is a bright yellow crystalline solid. Chemically, sulfur combines with
all elements except for gold, platinum, iridium, nitrogen, tellurium, iodine, and the noble gases.
Sulfur forms over 30 solid allotropes, more than any other element. Allotropes are different forms in
which an element can exist. I picked this element because... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As a result of this Sulfur is the 10th most abundant element in the universe. Sulfur, typically in
the form of sulfide, is present in many types of meteorites. The distinctive color of Jupiter s
volcanic moon Io are caused by various forms of molten, solid, and gaseous sulfur. On Earth,
elemental sulfur can be found near hot springs and volcanic areas in many parts of the world.
Sulfur is commonly mined in Indonesia, Chile, and Japan. Historically Sicily, Italy was a large
source of sulfur in the Industrial Revolution. Sulfur can be found in salt deposits along the Gulf of
Mexico and evaporites in eastern Europe and western Asia. Native sulfur may be produced by
geological processes alone. Fossil based sulfur deposits were until recently the basis of commercial
production in the United States, Russia, Turkmenistan, and Ukraine. Currently commercial
production is carried out in the Osiek mine in

The Problem Of Poverty And Homelessness
I argue that Charlie is wrong in this thinking. The notion that he is raising is exactly the type of
selfish and closed minded way of thinking that sets back the progress in solving the issue of
poverty and homelessness in America. In fact, a study taken in 2015 gathered that with more
interaction and willingness to help the homeless, the more empathy and compassion is gained for
them, later resulting in a larger contribution from society creating a social change. I obtained this
information based on a survey taken by Lindsay Phillips, a physiologist, that took it upon herself to
ask working, undergraduate college students to describe their perceptions of homelessness,
willingness to get involved, and ideas towards a solution. In this survey it is found that a good
majority of people do see a problem of homelessness and poverty, and are willing to do their part in
order to help. In addition, it was found that by volunteering to make a change, the stigma of social
distance between the homeless and the general public gradually shortens. This is said in the survey
report stating, Findings seem to indicate that it may be possible to demonstrate stigma toward a
population, yet still have a desire to help that population (as indicated by participants seeing the
validity of a number of solutions to homelessness and because 82.61% of participants expressed
willingness to volunteer to help this population)...For example, results indicated that very few

Abstract
This report presents an alternative energy is any energy source that from fossil fuel. We need to turn
to alternative energy in general. Firstly, we were in danger of ruining the planet s climate through
fossil fuel emissions. Furthermore, we cannot keep using fossil fuels forever that will run out
someday [1]. In addition, the problem of the current energy that we can focus was energy security
and independence viewpoint because our nation has increased its dependence on foreign oil
supplies instead of decreasing it especially from nations under the rule of a dictator or unstable
countries where human rights violations are common [2].
1.0Introduction
Nowadays, many power stations across the world burn fossil fuels to generate energy. When fossil
fuels are burned to generate energy, they lead to increased concentrations of carbon dioxide and
Sulphur dioxide into the atmosphere which contributes to global warming. However, stocks of
fossil fuels are limited and alternatives need to be found. Alternative energy sources are a popular
topic of conversion these days, as many of them believe that they can hold a promising solution to

Victorian Era Wedding
Marriage in the Victorian time period was carefully contemplated, as Rosenberg addresses that
Wedding ceremonies were seen as an expression of Victorian social values that that the Queen
wished to renounce, while on the other hand, such occasions were viewed as having national and
collective significance (Rosenberg 98). Love played a very tiny role in the Victorian Era
marriages. An engagement was more approached as a business deal. Once married all possessions
went to the husband as property. Anatolyevna emphasizes how Victorian weddings should be
transformed from a formalized procedure to a celebration, a holiday for a young couple in honor of
their initiation (Anatolyevna 1) The Marriageand WeddingCustoms of the Victorian time... Show

Because it all depended on your wealth on whom you were going to spend the rest of your life
with. For example, if you were un employed you were not eligible to marry an employed man or
women. Queen Victoria believed that if you were not in the same wealth class you wouldn t be
reliable in your marriage. Although, the Victorian time age was very serve, the exceptional
backgrounds were very thought provoking. Furthermore, the Victorian era wedding customs
were stimulating because of their uniqueness. Dawn Hurst demonstrates how A Church bell at
the beginning of the ceremony [drives] out evil forces, and it was considered lucky to drop
wedding rings, which would free the rings from any inhabiting spirits (Hurst 1). This is very
distinctive because research states that there are barely any people who do weddings like this
anymore. People are less likely to achieve this tradition because the marriages now aren t very
organized and rushed. While the Victorian time period wedding traditions were unique they were
also very elegant during the time period. Lastly the Victorian age wedding customs were attention
grabbing because of their elegance. A Victorian wedding is all about class and grace. Queen
Victoria was the one who set the trend for white wedding gowns and white floral arrangements.
Now in modern day weddings, people have made up myths and different assumptions of the white
wedding gown. But in the Victorian time when the white gowns were

Creative Writing On Hockey
I could feel the sweat dripping down my arm, rolling down my fingers, searing my eyes. I was
going past the 5th defender, screaming vulgar words at both opposing players and the refs for

a winter like chill in the air. My dad was telling me the usual things, from keep your head up to

greatly reduced using good practice after identifying potential risks in the workplace. Although
the risks of injury in a GIS lab are low, sitting for long periods of time behind a computer screen

The Important Aspects Of Persuading A Foreign Company
Introduction
Netherlands ( Dutch ) is the main constuient country of Kingdom of Netherlands . It is small but
densely populated country in Western Europe. Dutch is the official language in Netherlands but
English , German and to some extent French is also spoken in Netherlands. It is one of the most
secular countries in Western Europe . It has a developed economy and plays a very important role
in the European economy.
The common factors that influence the business are economic, social, legal and political
Environments but often culture is ignored during acquisitions and mergers .The truth is that
culture is perverse and everyday business is affected by culture (Weber and Camerer, 2003).
History tells us culture can make or break a business depending on the way it is handled. To
persuade a foreign company one should adopt to their culture and keep aside their own cultural
preferences. One of the most important aspects of persuading a foreign company is try to respect
and accept the other culture business etiquette s and practices. In this report we will focus on some
of the techniques to persuade Dutch.
According to Hofstede s research on different cultural dimensions , Netherlands score low (38) on

How Aerobic Exercise Reduces Oxidative Stress And Improves...
Background: The research article entitled Aerobic exercise reduces oxidative stress and improves
vascular changes of small mesenteric and coronary arteries in hypertension authored by Fernanda
R. Roque and colleagues examines the effects of regular physical activity, namely aerobic exercise
training, and its effects on hypertension. Specifically this study aimed at identifying a non
pharmacological treatment (exercise) for hypertension, with the assumptions that exercise promotes
beneficial vascular remodeling, mechanical, and functional adaptations in the arteries of
hypertensive individuals. This study approached the link between exercise and hypertension by
analyzing spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) response to a twelve week exercise
Prescription. Upon completion of the twelve weeks, measurements of adaptation in coronary and
small mesenteric arteries were examined in effort to deduce the efficacy of aerobic exercise as a
treatment option (Roque, 2012, p. 687). Efforts to discover a non pharmacological intervention
/treatment for hypertension stems from the belief that prevention via lifestyle modifications
(exercise) are not only an effective means of preventing and controlling hypertension, but also a
cost effective health care strategy (Taylor 2014, p.478). Exercise as a preventative method has
been known by researchers for a long time, specifically in terms of its ability to ameliorate
hypertension, and subsequent cardiovascular disease (CVD) in at risk

Analysis Of The Satirical Street Art That Sends Messages...
Introduction Known for his satirical street art that sends messages of awareness of the corrupt
society, Banksy, has remarked that a recent survey or North American males found 42% were
overweight, 34% were critically obese and 8% ate the survey. With the rising awareness and
prevalence, obesity has become an epidemic. In the United States alone, one of every five
Americans are overweight, and one of every five are obese. Among the younger ages of
childhood and adolescence, the National Health and Nutrition Examination reported that 17% of
kids age six through nineteen are obese. This problem, of course, is not limited only to America.
Studies performed by the United Nations have reported that in the year 2000, the number of
people suffering from overnutrition a billion had officially surpassed the number suffering from
malnutrition 800 million. An estimated 2.5 people are added to the global population each
second, and one of them will be deemed obese or overweight. Currently, estimates have shown
that 33% of the world population of 7.08 billion (2.26 billion) are overweight. In the United
States alone, 17% of children and adolescents are obese, and a majority will remain overweight as
adults.Furthermore a rising problem faced, revolves around comorbid conditions historically
linked among obese adult patients only, but are now seen in childhood. One disease in particular,

Probation Vs Adult Probation
In today s court system, probation is a very common alternative for most all offenses. Probation is
used as an alternative opposed to serving jail time. The role of a Probation Officer is summed up
best by the mission statement on display in my hometown s probation office; and the statement is,
The job of a Shelby County Probation Officer is to effect positive changed behavior in each client
through the use of evidence based practices, while becoming proven leaders in promoting and
improving community safety. There are some similarities and differencebetween the juvenile and
adult probation departments. Some of their similarities included how they work within the day to
day and their active duties within the legal system. They differ in the sense where, one is working
intensively with the youth, because they re sentenced probation time is very short and rushed
period, yet the adult officer could be working with a client for years and years. Although they
mostly worked through the same training and evidence based practices, the two departments are
different in their own entirety. An Adult Probation Officer is a law professional who works with
individuals who are granted probation instead of serving jail time for their offense . Some duties of
an Adult Probation Officer include keeping in contact with the offender and potentially their
families, good listening and communication skills, having good time management, teaching good

Urban Regeneration in the London Docklands Essay
Urban Regeneration in the London Docklands
The London Docklands Development Corporation is located along the River Thames Estuary
2.a) The London Docklands had to close for many reasons. The main reason was the Second
World War. The area suffered substantial bomb damage in the Second World War, which lead to
the need for a substantial rebuilding programme. In the first 20 years after the Second World War,
many buildings came to the end of their usefulness. A number of factors contributed to the decline
in the importance of the Docklands. London was no longer the centre of world trade and so much
of the dock space and warehousing was no longer needed. Some manufacturing activities were ...

These responsibilities included the reclamation of land, the provision of transport infrastructure,
environmental improvement and the attraction of private sector investment. The LDDC acquired
land and promoted transport development in the form of the Docklands Light Railway and London
City Airport to attract development and fill up the Isle of Dogs. The LDDC had four aims that
they wanted to achieve in the Docklands. They were basically to improve the economic, social
and physical aspects of the area. To improve the economic aspect of the area, they had to create
jobs for the unemployed who were living in the Docklands. To do this, they had to bring in major
companies. The LDDC decided to provide a good infrastructure to the area. They provided the gas,
electric and roads. Transport was a main problem, so ВЈ600 million was spent on transport, and
another ВЈ300 million on just the Docklands Railway.

were attracted to the Docklands, away from Fleet Street because of the new Canary Wharf

Barbell Back Squat Essay
Barbell back squats have always been a staple exercise in every bodybuilder, powerlifter and
athlete s workout regimen. Squats not only help build size to your legs but they also have other
added benefits such as improved flexibility and an increase in testosterone and growth hormone
production. There are many different techniques to help improve your squat such as the width of
your stance or the direction your toes are pointing. But the one technique that seems to be getting
the most attention is whether squatting barefoot is more beneficial in activating more muscles in
the lower limbs versus squatting wearing an athletic shoe. The following study focuses on the
activation of 8 lower limb muscles during a barbell back squat while barefoot and in an athletic
shoe. Researchers of this study hypothesize that the barefoot condition will produce more muscle
activation in comparison to the athletic shoe condition.
Participants in this study were healthy men and women ages 18 24. There were several criterions
the participants had to meet before partaking in the study. Each individual had to successfully
barbell back squat their own body weight for 1 repetition. Also participants were constantly

Taking a Look at the Bangladesh Genocides
The Bangladesh Genocides is remembered as the most concentrated genocide of the 20th century,
however it is an astonishing act of overlooking. In an attempt to crush forces seeking independence
for East Pakistan, the West Pakistani military regime unleashed an efficient campaign of mass
murder which aimed at killing millions of Bengalis, and succeeded in doing so.
For the bloodbath in March December 1971 when the Pakistani army executed a largely unarmed
Bengali population in the then vital part of Pakistan s state known as East Pakistan , in an effort to
suppress the region s demand for independence was at the time the biggest story in the world s
media.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Before 1971, Bangladesh was divided into two regions; both with opposing political power.
Although East Pakistan (Bangladesh) withheld the larger population between the two provinces, it
acquired much less political dominance than West Pakistan. Through the power and representation
of leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, East Pakistan rebelled. Rahman, leader of political party The
Awami League demanded more powers both politically and economically. This struggle finally
cumulated into the war of independence for East Pakistan.
CAUSE OF THE GENOCIDE
In the 1971 national elections, The Awami League, led by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, had a major
success, winning 160 seats as well as majority of the national assembly. Rahman demanded
independence for East Pakistan, as well as the right to form a government.

David And Solomon Essay
David and Solomon
King David proved to be a wise and effective leader for Israel. However, it can be said that his
son, Solomon, made several mistakes during his reign. Many of his problems originated from his
Temple, a stucture that was conceptualized by his father to be a deterrent against the paganism,
which infested the land. Yet, it seemed as if several of Solomon s policies actually encouraged
paganism rather than deter it.
King David, a member of the tribe of Judah was chosen by God to lead his people. As everyone
knows, he proved by his wise choices to be a very effective leader. As a great military strategist
David united the tribes and extended the national boundaries so that in his time Israel enjoyed a

The income from commerce and taxation was insufficient to support all of his building projects,
so he decided to cede 20 cities in Galilee to Tyre in order to raise supplemental income. Other
indications that his empire was weakening was the successful rebellions of Edom and Aram
against Israelite rule. Furthermore, the progressively weakening state of affairs allowed Jeroboam
to break away from Solomon s rule. He was able to attain leadership over Solomon s opponents
those that were frustrated with his policies of severe taxation and forced labor.
Concerning the actual Temple, one must be reminded that King David s original intentions were to
create a memorial against the Canaanite deities and paganism. However, when Solomon was given
responsibility of the construction, he seemed to have forgotten this. Some of the symbolism on the
alter was derived from Phoenicia, and can be traced back to older Canaanite symbols from
Mesopotamia. A serious spiritual weakness was starting to materialize in the Temple during this
time. Its elaborate organization and its heavy indebtedness to Syro Phoenician religious architecture

characterized by bitter intermittent conflict between religious assimilators and religious separatists

that in the 1900s women who drink were seen as sexual models, which meant women got spend

able to show more pride in advertisements. Alcohol was seen as a beverage that kept the human
relaxed and satisfying. Society saw alcohol as a rich people s beverage, it was seen as classy.
Women were dressed classy, as career women in some advertisements, and they were holding a

where women were seen more in alcohol advertisements. Looking at the Bud light image, it relates
to the article because in present day advertisements women get to express themselves more and they
can show off their bodies. In the Bud light image shown, the woman appears to have an athletic
body, she is holding a soccer ball. Looking at the top right side you could see that it is for the
FIFA world cup advertisement for America. The main target of the advertisement would
probably be the people watching the game either in a bar or a game where they could enjoy that
bud light drink. Törrönen (2013) Explains how back in the day women would not be seen in
advertisements showing half their body, where they were keeping it traditional (p.644). Now,
when looking at the image there is huge change in society, the women in the Bud light image is
expressing herself and the body she has made by working out, it also allows the audience to see
how women attracts men to sports, by having these advertisements it gives men pleasure to drink
the beer. The woman in the image is actually African American, which is also a huge change
because advertisements usually show more Caucasian

Persecution Against An Unchartered Jargon Essay
Persecution Against an Unchartered Jargon
The Webster Dictionary defines the word language as the system of words or signs that people
use to express thoughts and feelings to each other as well as any one of the systems of human
language that are used and understood by a particular group of people (Webster Dictionary). If
language is a tool dedicated as a communication source to understand one another, why is the way
certain people talk being neglected and marked as not an actual language? Language has evolved
into more than just words being expressed through our voices, but has converted into a weapon
used to ridicule and attack other dialects due to how different and unorthodox a particular language
may be. James Baldwin in If Black English Isn t a Language, Then Tell me, What is? argues that
Black English was a form of the African American community s own dialectof the English
language, and neglecting the language as its own contradicts the definition of the word language
itself. Bell hooks explores and points out the class differences within our society and not just
within our colleges major universities, pointing out how in which assimilation is not inevitable
and not required wherever an individual enters. Our own stories and the way we present ourselves
through our words should not be limited to a certain form; in F for Book Report, R. Zamora
Linmark endorses the linguistic power to represent ourselves anyway we like and our own

The Negative Effects Of Barbie Dolls
In modern day society, impressionable teenage girls are bombarded with forms of media. They
are constantly exposed to media platforms and are consequently susceptible to society s
outrageous standards of what their ever changing bodies should look like. This can drive them
to have unrealistic expectations for themselves, deteriorating confidence and potentially life
threatening illnesses such as, anorexia and bulimia. Therefore, it is clear that the media has
damaging effects on the still developing females within our society. From a young age the
media s expectations are accessible in the form of Barbie Dolls. Unknowing girls idolize Barbie
and her materialistic lifestyle hoping to one day become the Barbie that they play with today.
Statistics show that about 90% of 3 11 year old girls will have own a Barbie Doll. Barbie becomes
one of life s early role models. Yet the slim waist and long limbs that Barbie portrays are an
impossible figure that are unattainable for the human body. Therefore, from a young age, females
are set up to fail as they feel the need to reach an unattainable standard. Moreover, as girls grow
out of Barbie Dolls they are susceptible to many more forms of media and are only exposed to
them for approximately 7.5 hours per day when between the ages of 8 and 18. Consequently, the
average adolescent can view up to 400 600 advertisements per day through forms of media such as,
apps, TV and magazines and within those commercials around one in every 11

B2B eCommerce Best Practices Guide Accepting Online Payments
Accepting Online Payments from Multiple Gateways
Traditional B2B invoicing, on account arrangements and payments by check prove increasingly
inefficient when companies can get immediate payments using credit cards and integrating other
mobile payment systems into their eCommerce platforms. Technology and faster communications,
secure encryptions of financial information and growing acceptance of mobile payments are
influencing business to business organizations to offer more payment options to their customers.
Integrating multiple payment solutions not only leads to faster payments and better cash flow but

Studies show that eight billion invoices paid by check cost U.S. businesses $100 billion in annual
processing costs.[1]
Most B2B companies struggle to implement electronic payment systems primarily because of the
challenges of integrating with out of the box accounting software and antiquated legacy systems.
However, 91 percent of all adults now use mobile phones and can easily pay companies directly
with check cards, credit cards or other mobile payment options.[2] Customizing a B2B website for
multiple payment options provides long term benefits that will only increase with time and enable
increased automation of company processes. These include automated options for recurring billing,
interactive voice response or IVR technology for confirming orders and taking credit card or billing
information and Virtual Negotiation technology for speeding agreements and handling payment
disputes. Mobile payments grew more than 9 percent annually in 2013 and now account for more
than 40 percent of global revenue.[3] McKinsey predicts a sustained annual growth rate for mobile
payments in excess of 6 percent that should surpass $2 trillion annually by 2020.
Accepting multiple payment types increases the value of any eCommerce platform by empowering
customers and simplifying the billing payment cycle. It s a new world for B2B companies that
stand to benefit from these technologies, but there are

Upon The Burning Of Our House By Anne Bradstreet
Upon the Burning of Our House, written by Anne Bradstreet, describes a rather sad event in
which her lovely house is burnt to the ground. In her efforts to relay her emotions she utilizes a
variety of literary devices such as vivid imagery, assonance and biblical allusions. The poem
gives description of how she felt during the very event, how she feels as she passes the ruins of
her once erect household and how she came to the realization that she would get through the
experience with God by her side. The poem (as per usual of Anne Bradstreet) employs rhyming
couplets, these were used to apply emphasize on her attachment towards her house but then is later

On Going Home By Kerstin Bratsch Analysis
In Kerstin Bratsch s painting Unstable Talismanic Renderings 27 there is an array of talismans of
varied size, shapes and colors depicted on one canvas. The painting can be viewed as symbolic of
the human mind. Additionally, the diversity, confusion, energy and activity draw an analogy to the
dynamics of the powerhouse, the mind, whereas the absence of cohesion and clarity reflects the
transient nature of our thoughts and the fluctuating shades of our emotions. There is constant
activity in our brain and this vigor shapes the window through which we look at this world. Joan
Didion s essay On Going Home sheds insight onto the dynamic human mind through the paradigm
shift Didion experiences on visiting her childhood home for her daughter s first birthday.
As one leaf withers and falls from the tree, a new one grows in its place and the tree is complete
again. However, Didion s tree is still incomplete as the new leaf, the house she shares with her
husband and daughter in Los Angeles, is loosely attached to her tree and hasn t replaced the former
leaf, her childhood home in Central Valley of California. This troublesome distinction between her
old and new home disturbs Didion deeply ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Indian American Culture
The Asian Indian American (also known as Indo Indians) community is a vast one that contribute to

When comparing the Asian Indian Americanpopulation, some can be seen as higher middle class;

Here is the Process Flow Diagram:
The whole process throughput time of making a dozen of cookies is 26 minutes. It takes washing,

are 10 minutes. The final step of cooling, packing and accepting payment of cookies takes
roommate 8 minutes to finish the cycle. Assume the night capacity is 4 hours, so Kristen and
roommate have 240 minutes operating time. Since the oven only holds one tray, the second dozen

Although the oven only holds one tray per time, it takes 6 minutes to washing and mixing steps.
So we still need 3 trays to be well prepare. The bottleneck operation would be the speed of
operation, which is time you spend in preparing and baking. The speed with which you can
produce cookies depends on the cycle time of baking. If we can rent another oven, it will increase
our efficiency in order to make more cookies with lower cost. Because mixer can mix ingredients
for up to three dozens cookies, each oven can hold a tray per time. This change would give us
solution for production constraints. After increasing capacity of oven, it will make us start our
new orders every 5 minutes and 7.5 dozens per hour. So we are willing to pay $200 $300 to rent
an extra oven. If we choose to run business without Kristen, her time for one dozen cookies
becomes 12 minutes. It will become the labor bottleneck. If the order contains two dozens or
more, Kristen s time for this order becomes 17 minutes and 22 minutes for 3 dozens. For the

Explication of The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost Essay
Explication of The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost
When reading The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost, I found that it was personal, especially to
the author. The fact that it was written in first person form helped me to conclude that it was
probably about the author. I think the reasoning behind his writing of this poem was because in
life, you have many obstacles to overcome and many choices and decisions to make, which opens
a path that leads the way to your future. Since those things relate to Frost, I think it motivated him
to write this poem on a personal basis, like a short autobiography on his life. It motivated him
because he could then tell others about his life and give advice and guidance to the people that read

The thing that always holds true though, is that the major issues people s lives are always
ironically similar to each other or, at least can relate to them in many ways. Therefore, I found that
this poem not only symbolizes or relates to the author, but it also symbolizes or holds true to
almost everybody s lives.
One of the major symbols within this poem is the roads. When he says Two roads diverged in a
yellow wood, he is using the roads to symbolize the paths, choices, and decisions that he has to
make in his life. Those decisions guide the way to his future, because when you come to a two way
street or road you have to decide or make a choice on which path to take. Also when he says And
sorry I could not travel both And be on traveler, he is telling us how he is insecure on which road
to take because he is unsure of what s ahead and would like to travel both roads to come up with
a conclusion or a decision on the correct road to take. So overall, what road basically symbolizes
in this poem is the options that he has in his life and the decisions that he has to make.
Another symbol in this poem is the many observations that he makes. When he says long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth, he is using his
observations to symbolize the brainstorming, analyzing, and thinking you have to do before or
ahead of time when you are offered two options in your life and only one path to take.

Book Review Of Louise Pubols s The Father Of All
The opening chapters of Louise Pubols s well written and carefully documented study of the de la
Guerra family of Santa BГЎrbara, California, clearly demonstrate why she chose to title her book
The Father of All. Spanish born military officer JosГ© de la Guerra is the central figure in this
history, and members of his large familyplay important supporting roles.
He arrived in Alta California in 1801 and quickly established California roots with his marriage to
MarГa Antonia Carrillo y Lugo, daughter of his commanding officer. The Carrillos and the Lugos
were typical of the province s earliest settlers, racially mixed individuals who had left the
impoverished towns and mining centers of Sinaloa and Sonora in search of better times, racial
whitening, and upward social mobility through military service.
De la Guerra became commander of the Santa BГЎrbara presidio in 1815, a position he held until
1827. His Spanish birth, military rank, connections in Mexico City, wife s extended family, and
shrewd business acumen helped him build a diversified enterprise that survived the political turmoil
and shifting economic climate of California in the first half of the nineteenth century.
His official responsibility for overseeing presidio accounts and supply chains enabled him to steer
contracts toward his uncle s Mexico City trading firm and to his own burgeoning commercial
ventures. He carefully nurtured relationships with ship captains and Franciscan missionaries, many
of them fellow Spaniards, and garnered handsome commissions trading with merchants from Peru
and the Philippines as well as New Spain.
By the 1820s, de la Guerra had broadened his business and family ties to include merchants from
Great Britain and the United States. His daughter Teresa s marriage to a Briton and her sister Anita
s to an American formed part of a calculated strategy to capture the potentially hostile traders and
integrate them into Californio systems of family obligation and dependence (p. 10). He further
consolidated his networks of patronage and trust through compadrazgo, the fictive kinship relations
among individuals and their children s godparents. Missions, rancheros, soldiers, farmers, and
artisans all came to depend on him to

The Role Of Class In The Gilded Age And Progressive Era
Class
To begin, class influenced the Gilded Age and Progressive Era in the changing working
conditions as a response to industrialization. Class was also apparent in Gilded Age politics and in
the changing political culture that foreshadowed the bureaucratic government of the Progressives.
Middle Class Progressives played a vital role in America by seeking reform and influence among
the upper and working class. Thus, class assumed a prominent role in influencing the Gilded Age
and Progressive Era. Changing Working Conditions
In the 19th century, there were several structural changes in the nature of work. These changes
included deskilling of jobs, which led to the decline of the heroic artisan and economic
depressions. All these factors contributed to tense strikes between workers and employers. During
the Antebellum period, most white American workers were self reliant, but the nature of work
and production began to shift after the Civil War, as the industrial workplace increased in size,
immigration swelled, and the number of wage workers surpassed that of self employed men. Thus,
heroic artisans experienced threats with the emergence of a class of permanent wage workers,
which killed their republic dreams for American economic self sufficiency, property ownership, and
self employment. Nevertheless, the real challenge for white wage Americans began in the 1870s
and 1880s, as xenophobic anxieties of Chinese workers emerged. [1]
Additionally, the late 19th century was

Reflection Paper In Counseling
Self reflection Paper
Productiveness
The most productive part of the counseling session was when I found myself thinking about how
I left my door unlocked and windows open, which did leave to an awkward pause, however I
regained self awareness and began to discuss how the client and I will discuss his goals in a future
session. The reason I found this to be the most productive was because it pushed me to regain
control in an effective way and demonstrated that counselors makes mistakes to the client, which
could add to the authenticity aspect.
Problem Areas There are several areas of which I need to improve upon. One of the biggest areas
of improvement would include be responding opposed to reacting. For example when the client
stated, I train my dog to go to the bathroom on my neighbor s lawn and I don t have a dog. I
immediately began laughing. I should have paused, then responded with a clarifying question.
Another problem area was, the awkward pauses and loose structure. I believe I had several
awkward pauses throughout the session as a result of overthinking. I should have stated what came
to me naturally instead of worrying about saying it correctly or in a specific order.
Ethics
Ethics appeared in this session when discussing the informed consent. The reason a counselor goes
over informed consent with their client is because the categories within the form can lead to
ethical dilemmas if left unclear. In this session, I felt as though I had gone over each category in
the document. Though with that being said, I feel that next session I will elaborate in a more
concise and efficient manner. In this session, I was a bit unorganized and reiterated a lot of the
same information.
Multicultural Competencies Unfortunately I do not feel that I grew in a multicultural competent
manner. I think that when the client and I have our next session, there will be room to grow
culturally because the focus will be on him, not the informed consent.
Self Advocacy
When the client and I discussed the referral process and areas outside of my scope of practice that I
believe spoke to the self advocacy piece. The client understood that if he was in crisis I could assist
him with calling 911 or provide him with crisis

The Cultural Movement of the Skinheads
One of the biggest cultural movements to arise from Reggae was the Skinheads. Skinhead culture
grew from the fusion between the modernists or Mods and Jamaican rude boys. Mod culture was
a youth movement in British cities that originated in the late 1950s, that represented a certain
fashion, music tastes and scooter riding. The peak of the Mod culture matched up with the time
when the majority of Caribbean immigrants arrived in the UK, in the mid 60 s. Due to a large
amount of Mods being of working class backgrounds, they were one of the few groups to mix with
the Caribbean immigrants. Once Mod culture declined, due to commercialisation of the style and
their demonisation due to the violence between them and rival Rockers , some Mods began the
Skinheadmovement by integrating Jamacian style and music into Mod fashion. Many young
mods of the mid/late 1960s lived in the same working class and economically challenging areas
as Jamaican immigrants in areas such as parts of South London. Those hard mods eventually
created the Skinhead movement. Those Mods began integrating the rude boy fashion of short
trousers, braces and Trilbys into their fashion of Fred Perry shirts, skinnier jeans and Dr. Martens
boots. The actual skinhead aspect of very short hair originates with working class Mods and very
early Skinheads who choose to cut their hair this short for the practical reasons of it not impeding
them in either street fights and football brawls, that some Mods

Cystic fibrosis is an inherited autosomal recessive disease that exerts its main effects on the

In order to determine the exact location of the CF gene, probes were taken from the nucleotide
sequence obtained from chromosome jumping. To find these probes, horse, cow, chicken, and
mouse DNA was separated using Southern Blot electrophoresis. Two probes were found to bind to
all of the vertebrates DNA. This meant that the base pairs within the probes contained related
information, possibly even the gene.
The Northern Blot electrophoresis technique was then used to distinguish between the two
probes still remaining in order tofind out which one actually contained the CF gene. This was
successful because Northern Blot electrophoresis tests RNA, not DNA. The RNA of cell types
affected with CF, along with the RNA of unaffected cell types were placed on a gel. Probe
number two bound to the RNA of affected cell types in the pancreas, colon, and nose (all CF
affected cells,) but did not bind to the RNA from non affected cell types like those of the brain and
heart. Probe number one did not bind exclusively to cell types from CF affected areas like number
two did. From this evidence, these scientists determined that probe number two contained the CF
gene.
While isolating the CF gene

The Use of Coal as an Energy Source in the United States...
Energy from Coal: The Nation s Dirty Secret
Abstract
While technology has led the world into such an advanced setting with intelligent machinery and
automated devices, coal has remained a loyal contributor of the energy needed by these various
types of equipment to function properly. Almost half of the electricity in the United States is
produced in coal plants where coal is burnt to produce this energy [1]. Both beneficial and
detrimental factors come with this alternative source of energy, known by the world for centuries.
Background Information
Even with the quantity of fossil fuels dwindling due to human consumption, coal has remained one
of the cheapest, reliable sources of electricity, natural gas, diesel fuel, and steel ... Show more

But there are also many detrimental factors as well, since the production of coal results in air
pollution, sulfur dioxide emission, carbon dioxide emission, acid rain, and hazardous waste [4].
These environmental problems are due to both the mining of coal and coal production plants.
Many issues arise with the mining of coal. Firstly, the safety of miners is put at risk as they
descend hundreds of feet below the surface of the Earth. After many years in this field of work,
many miners develop black lung because of inhaling the coal extensively. Secondly, the extraction
of coal is very costly due to the machinery needed along with the transportation of the coal after it
has been mined to the various factories that are able to extract the sulfur impurities in coal and burn
the coal for energy [5]. New methods have been developed to help with some of the issues relating
to coal production. To rid the surrounding environment of toxic pollution, emission scrubbing
technology has been installed into coal plants. This is approximately 90% to 95% affective in
eliminating the mercury, sulfur, and nitrogen emissions [6]. As for the deep mining issues, there is
another method to retrieve coal from the Earth, removing the entire mountain tops covering a
reserve of coal beneath. Although this

Theories And Concepts Of Child Development
The concepts of child development are many and varied. It is all well and good to read about
theories and concepts of child development in a textbook, but when these concepts are observed
in real life classrooms, the theories and concepts are easier to understand. It is also easy to plan
a classroom on paper, but in real life, students with different levels of development and abilities,
learning styles, and cultures will be in the classroom. Observing children and breaking down the
different stages and philosophies of development help future teachers acquire a comprehensive
and detailed view of child development. Physical Development Physical development is how a
student grows and matures over time. This includes things like height, weight, and muscle mass,
but also affects the brain (CITE BOOK HERE). Preteens and adolescents ages 12 13 roughly
average out to the same development rate between genders. Boys are commonly taller than girls
and weigh more. Males also acquire more muscle mass during puberty. The students in the
seventh grade class showed these characteristics. One boy was much taller than his two female
partners. Both girls were relatively slim while the boy had more muscle. In the kindergarten class
on the other hand, both the boys and girls looked to be about the same size. While there were

Bilingual Vs. Foreign Language Skills Essay
Final Paper In today s increasingly globalized world, the ability to speak a second or multiple
languages provides a wide range of benefits. Since people who have foreign language skills surely
spent much time not only in studying the language itself but also in engaging with its culture, they
can see things from other different perspectives, not from a single perspective. The latest study
actually shows that bilingual children are more capable of understanding others perspectives than
those who speak only one language(Whyte, 2016). Moreover being multilingual can also prevent
Alzheimer s and other diseases that affect the brain. In the international business world, workers
who can speak foreign languages have more flexibility to choose their jobs than monolingual
workers. Foreign languageskills allow people to communicate with each other and to negotiate
more successfully. Foreign language skills also can be a useful tool to fill a gap between different
cultures, which leads to the success in building a good business relationships. English is the
accepted first language of international business, and because of this, Americans may feel foreign
language is unnecessary. However, Americans who lack foreign language skills will face
competition for jobs as more and more well educated graduates who are multilingual from Europe,
China, India, and many other countries are entering the global job market. The United States is a
monolingual nation. In this increasingly

Scientology Going Clear
In Response to Alex Gibney s Going Clear HBO hired 160 precautionary lawyers prior to the
production of Going Clear, the explosive documentary produced by Alex Gibney that aimed to
expose tightly kept secrets and beliefs of the Church of Scientology. Undeniably controversial,
perhaps what Going Clear does best is gather testimonies of ex church members and officials that
give the viewer an inside look into the church s practices and deep ties to Hollywood stars. In
addition, Going Clear attempts to explain the roots and core beliefs of the church, placing strong
emphasis on the peculiar life of it s founder L. Ron Hubbard. With the copious amount of shocking
information made public by Going Clear, judgements on Scientology s emergence as a world
religion are relevant as ever. To effectively evaluate Scientology and it s inclusion on the world
stage, one must first look back to the roots and beliefs of other world religions and draw
comparison. By contrasting Scientology with other religions, accurate conclusions can be made on
various aspects of its existence, such as its validity, survivability and morality. According to... Show

There is even a Church of Scientology Celebrity Center in Los Angeles for entertainment stars to
practice their beliefs, and recruit new members. According to the documentary Going Clear, the
church around the time it was founded made a list of celebrities it wanted to recruit such as Bob
Hope, Howard Hughes, and Walt Disney (Guerrasio). Hubbard seemed to want celebrities as
members, as a way of legitimizing Scientology (Guesrrasio). This is vastly different from other
American religions, who have no records of marketing their church using celebrity membership.
The key spokespeople for the religion appear to be John Travolta and Tom Cruise, who because of
their entertainment status, lead some people to think that the church is

The President Of The Florida Chapter Of Delta Chi Here At...
To the founders of Phi Beta Kappa, My name is Jacob Dube and I currently serve as the
President of the Florida Chapter of Delta Chi here at the University of Florida. In 1776, you all
made a decision that would forever change the course of college history at the College of
William and Mary and many other universities nationwide as you created the first American
collegiate fraternity. I cannot express my gratitude for you as you all paved the way for the
Greek system in a college and university setting. The Greek experience is one of a kind to all of
its members, and it has helped produce some of the most successful people in our country. I
would like to share to you some great news about today s Greek systems here at the University of
Florida and how you helped shape the success of so many Greek students.
The Greek communities that have risen across the country have created huge impacts on every
university that they have established themselves on. Historically, fraternities were designed for
students to discreetly meet to discuss issues and host debates that their members believed would be
deemed inappropriate by their collegiate faculties. Since their founding, fraternities and sororities
have completely revamped their focuses. They are used as social, professional, and honorary
organizations that promote many different combinations of community service, leadership, and
academic success. The ideas of brotherhood and sisterhood have also transcended the college
experience,

Rear Window, By Alfred Hitchcock And The Last Laugh
The films Rear Window, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, and The Last Laugh, directed by Friedrich
Wilhelm Murnau, both feature protagonists going through change, for better or for worse. Rear
Window features L.B. Jeff Jefferies, a professional photographer who is stuck in his wheelchair, in
his apartment, because of an accident he had while on the job. The Last Laughfeatures a hotel
doorman that gets demoted to a lesser job, who then undergoes a psychological change. Both films
use elements of mise en scene to show how the protagonists adapt and change to their confinement
and isolation. The use of the set, framing, and motifs of doors and windows in both films
emphasizes the idea of the protagonists dealing with change, from freedom to confinement and
isolation.
In Rear Window, the set is used show the freedom Jeff had before he was confined to his apartment.
During the opening scene, the camera pans over and zooms out through the window from the other
apartment onto Jeff. The opening scene is significant because it demonstrates how Jeff confines
himself to his apartment; instead, he could be outside venturing in his wheelchair, despite his
disability. Also, the set only consists of the apartment across from Jeff, and his own apartment,
while there are several of buildings looming in the background. This segment of the setting, Jeff s
apartment and the one across from him, suggests that the set is very enclosed and restricted of
freedom; for no other areas of the

Outline For Exothermic Reaction
what is an exothermic reaction and how can we recognize them?
Chemistry; types of reactions.
Question:
What is an exothermic reaction and where can we find them.
Thesis:
Despite the fact that there are many different types of reactions, exothermic reactions are a
category of reactions that give off energy, this is what makes them so dangerous as well as
interesting. It is also what allows them to put on the best show.
To start things off lets go over what a chemical reactionis. A chemical reaction is a chemical
change which forms new substances, such as compounds. Common chemical reactions include a
candle burning, a nail rusting. *Physical changes reposition molecules but do not affect their
internal structures. Physical changes you may already know of are, scrambling eggs, boiling
water and even slicing an apple. Where as a chemical changes result in the creation of different
chemical substances at the molecular level. Chemical change requires breaking or making of
bonds between atoms, and are usually irreversible. Chemical changes such as petrol burning, iron
rusting and baking a cake. You cant simply dry rust to get it back to pure metal or freeze a cake to
get the ingredients out. ***

Oxidation is defined as the interaction between oxygen molecules and all the different
substances they may contact, from metal to living tissue. Rusting is a chemical reaction
between iron and oxygen to yield iron oxide, this reaction can be expressed as 4Fe + 3O2
2Fe2O3 Exothermic reacting in living tissue might seem far fetched, surprisingly enough its not.

The Pros And Cons Of Pantheism
I see that my stoner tendencies/usage of cannabis has been recognized. Why are you surprised?
Seeing as to what kind of issues we re dealing with here, it would only be natural to seek help from
one of the ultimate sources of wisdom and knowledge. JK
I don t believe that by holding the conviction of an infinite looping universe will put as much
strain and questions to the said already existing conceptions as we think it would. I already spoke
about how equally absurd pantheism and monotheism is in the eyes of science . Yes, we can say
that monotheism, on one hand, satisfies the need for an (As Aquinas would say it); uncaused
mover, whereas for pantheism, they do not propose the idea that there exists a god/God, well at
least in the traditional sense (ie a divine entity) which also from a completely scientific standpoint
(the God hypothesis) is not a falsifiable hypothesis. Science claims that if God were to exist, there
are certain pre requisites that ought to be met to show that he exists, unfortunately, God as we
both know him to be, does not fit the criteria of an existing god , well at least according to a
purely naturalistic biased scientific view. So each side ultimately ... Show more content on

The story of bioremediation and its recent development as an oil spill response technology provides
an interesting example of how a new environmental technology comes into being. Based on the
U.S. experience (highly influenced by the Exxon Valdez oil spill), the history of bioremediation in
spill response can be divided into three development periods (after Hoff, 1993): the courtship period
until 1989, the honeymoon period from 1989 until 1991, and the establishment period since 1992.
1. Courtship Period (pre 1989)
The first courtship period was primarily a research period, when bioremediation was little known
outside the microbiology or hazardous waste community. Many published articles from the 1970s
and earlier documented the process of microbial degradation of oil, both in the laboratory and in
field trials. A number of scientific papers on this topic were published during the 1970s and 1980s,
including several review papers covering mechanisms of biodegradation, and papers presenting
results from controlled field experiments measuring degradation rates in various environments.
Several studies following major oil spills like the Amoco Cadiz measured oil degradation in the
environment and confirmed previously published results from laboratory studies (Hoff, 1993).
These works established a basic understanding of biodegradation of oil as an important component
of the process known as

Addiction Social Media Addiction
In the modern society of internet and technological advancement, there are plenty of very
sophisticated devices that make addiction to social media even more relatable in the daily events
of life. The study has revealed that the majority of network users and addicts are the young
people in the society more specifically between the ages of 14 and 19 years old. Further, research
has also revealed that up to 54% of the social networksubscribers are already addicts to the same.
Some of the way I do not think so that TV shows, video games and internet increase violence in
our society because these thinks teach us how to learn technology but it is all depend on people s
mentality how they are using the technology. The social network platform hosts a variety of
services to choose from each a bit different from the other. The addictionis more accurate to the
services that the addict has subscribed to on their devices.
More specifically, it is true to say that some of the addicts only know about the existence of the
services that they have subscribed to and are more often unaware of the existence of other
services. For instance, there are those people who are addicted to Twitter and Facebook, but at the
same time, they might not be Snapchat or even Instagram. There are a variety of social media
utilities such as: LinkedIn, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube among many
others which of whom have specific addicts who also have preferences in their choosing with

A Business With A Second Patent For Electric Motors
In 1895 John Lincoln resolved to open a business with a second patent for electric motors. He
founded this business with just 200 dollars. His start up cost was the earnings he received from
redesigning a single motor for Herbert Dow. His business launched out of a small one room
factory. In 1906 he spread his wings and erected a new 3 story factory. He filled those three stories
with 30 new employees and the sales shot through the roof.
Shortly after, his younger brother came on board as the Vice President and General Manager. John
was an engineer and inventor by heart so he ultimately detached from his company and handed over
the reins to his younger brother James. James initially came into the company in 1907 after leaving

The golden rule for the company originated from James s Christian and his principles. This led to
the motto which is The actual is limited, the possible is immense . Analyzing this gives the
assumption that what they currently have and can do is currently constrained, but that possibilities
over time are vast and endless. Under no circumstances was his belief system ever placed onto his
employees or customers. This was just how his belief system made it obvious to envision where his
company could go.
James had a particular view on the incentive management plan. This was directed at the
stakeholders. They did not earn their bonuses and were considered absent from the whole project.
They received undeserved profits from the company who worked hard for the products. The
company was focused on the customers and employees before they were concerned with the
stakeholders.
There is a performance based appraisal system, also known as the merit system. This is how
each employee is reviewed on their personal performances. This occurs with their supervisors
twice a year. It was based on the ideas, cooperation, and dependability of the workers. They did
consider the output of the worker as a separate entity to be reviewed. The audits are based on a 100
point system. Most of their

College Parties In College
Attending university for the time is an experience like no other. Many students go from being
coddled by their parents to complete independence. This newly found freedom can result in a
couple of outcomes, this can be categorized as those who choose to party and those who don t.
Partying is a university stereotype, you see it movies and have most likely heard some eventful
stories from a family member. Dissimilar to high school, there are no popular kids throwing
exclusive parties, everyone is welcome. Yet the necessity to conform to the partycrowd is still
present. It has become a societal norm. Almost like, if you re not partying, you re not attaining the
full university experience.
Overall partying can be described as an event/celebration in which most people are enjoying
themselves, typically letting loose through the use of alcohol and drugs. Everyone parties for a
different reason. For myself, the world of partying often leads to meeting new people, along with
the liquid courage, socializing becomes easier. For other s it may act as release. After another
continuous week of studying and completing assignments, partying can act as something to look
forward to. In university, students typically party from Thursday to Saturday every weekend.
Whether it s a going to house party, bars or clubs, there is always something going on.
After a long week, students usually decide what they re going to do, typically meeting up on
Thursday to begin the weekend. The duration

Factory Working Conditions Of Bangladesh
Factory Working Conditions In Bangladesh Does it take a catastrophic event for the factories in
Bangladesh to become know for the harsh working conditions? Most Americans don t understand,
nor do Americans see how the factories and sweatshop workers are affected by the unsafe
environments, the illegal use of children, and the minimal pay with no compensation. Americans
take for granted the pay received, and the type of working conditions that are set in order to for the
business to operate. Child labor laws in Bangladesh are very few in number, and the few that are set
in place don t completely protect the underage children working. Working in such a hazardous
environmentthe workers should be compensated in either pay or benefits. The working
environments and conditions in Bangladesh are not only harsh, but unsafe, and the workers are
under compensated for the conditions.
Factories in Bangladesh have some of the worst working environments for workers to operate in.
There is no comparison between American factories, and factories in Bangladesh. In Bangladesh
alone some of the most catastrophic work hazards happen in the factories. In

  • 2. The Life and Works of Margaret Atwood An Examination the Life and Works of Margaret Atwood Born on November 18, 1939, Margaret Eleanor Atwood was raised by Carl Edmund and Margaret Dorothy Atwood ( Atwood, Margaret 1939 . Concise Major 21st Century Writers). Born in Ottawa and raised in Toronto she spent the larger part of her youth in Canada ( Atwood, Margaret (1939 ). Gothic Literature: A Gale Critical Companion). As a young child she was raised in an intellectually stimulating environment and was encouraged to pursue a life in which education is highly valued ( Atwood, Margaret. British, Irish, and Commonwealth Poets). Her childhood played a pivotal role in her future life, including her works, beliefs, and goals. Raised by an entomologist, her fondness of nature most was likely extended to her from her father through means of family trips to the isolated safe havens of Quebec and Ontario. These locations were the subject of her father s study and research ( Atwood, Margaret. British, Irish, and Commonwealth Poets). From the year 1957 to 1961 she worked on her undergraduate degree in English at Victoria college at the University of Toronto. Whilst studying there, Atwood became influenced by Canadian poet Jay MacPherson and by Northrop Frye. They encouraged Atwood to write poetry in her early writing career and pointed her toward using biblical and mythological symbols and archetype, which are still prevalent in her writing ( Atwood, Margaret. British, Irish, and Commonwealth Poets). During that time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Research Paper On Sulfur I choose Sulfur because of it s bright yellow color which really catches your attention. I also found it very interesting how much damage sulfur really is to the human. Plus is a very hard element to locate due to the fact that it can mainly be found by hot springs or volcanoes. Sulfur, also spelled sulphur, is a chemical elementwith the symbol S and atomic number of 16. It is an abundant non metaland at room temperature is a bright yellow crystalline solid. Chemically, sulfur combines with all elements except for gold, platinum, iridium, nitrogen, tellurium, iodine, and the noble gases. Sulfur forms over 30 solid allotropes, more than any other element. Allotropes are different forms in which an element can exist. I picked this element because... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On Earth, elemental sulfur can be found near hot springs and volcanic areas in many parts of the world. Sulfur is commonly mined in Indonesia, Chile, and Japan. Historically Sicily, Italy was a large source of sulfur in the Industrial Revolution. Sulfur can be found in salt deposits along the Gulf of Mexico and evaporites in eastern Europe and western Asia. Native sulfur may be produced by geological processes alone. Fossil based sulfur deposits were until recently the basis of commercial production in the United States, Russia, Turkmenistan, and Ukraine. • 4. The Problem Of Poverty And Homelessness I argue that Charlie is wrong in this thinking. The notion that he is raising is exactly the type of selfish and closed minded way of thinking that sets back the progress in solving the issue of poverty and homelessness in America. In fact, a study taken in 2015 gathered that with more interaction and willingness to help the homeless, the more empathy and compassion is gained for them, later resulting in a larger contribution from society creating a social change. I obtained this information based on a survey taken by Lindsay Phillips, a physiologist, that took it upon herself to ask working, undergraduate college students to describe their perceptions of homelessness, willingness to get involved, and ideas towards a solution. In this survey it is found that a good majority of people do see a problem of homelessness and poverty, and are willing to do their part in order to help. In addition, it was found that by volunteering to make a change, the stigma of social distance between the homeless and the general public gradually shortens. This is said in the survey report stating, Findings seem to indicate that it may be possible to demonstrate stigma toward a population, yet still have a desire to help that population (as indicated by participants seeing the validity of a number of solutions to homelessness and because 82.61% of participants expressed willingness to volunteer to help this population)...For example, results indicated that very few participants would remain ... We need to turn to alternative energy in general. Firstly, we were in danger of ruining the planet s climate through fossil fuel emissions. Furthermore, we cannot keep using fossil fuels forever that will run out someday [1]. In addition, the problem of the current energy that we can focus was energy security and independence viewpoint because our nation has increased its dependence on foreign oil supplies instead of decreasing it especially from nations under the rule of a dictator or unstable countries where human rights violations are common [2]. 1.0Introduction Nowadays, many power stations across the world burn fossil fuels to generate energy. When fossil fuels are burned to generate energy, they lead to increased concentrations of carbon dioxide and Sulphur dioxide into the atmosphere which contributes to global warming. However, stocks of fossil fuels are limited and alternatives need to be found. Alternative energy sources are a popular topic of conversion these days, as many of them believe that they can hold a promising solution to meet our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Victorian Era Wedding Marriage in the Victorian time period was carefully contemplated, as Rosenberg addresses that Wedding ceremonies were seen as an expression of Victorian social values that that the Queen wished to renounce, while on the other hand, such occasions were viewed as having national and collective significance (Rosenberg 98). Love played a very tiny role in the Victorian Era marriages. An engagement was more approached as a business deal. Once married all possessions went to the husband as property. Anatolyevna emphasizes how Victorian weddings should be transformed from a formalized procedure to a celebration, a holiday for a young couple in honor of their initiation (Anatolyevna 1) The Marriageand WeddingCustoms of the Victorian time... For example, if you were un employed you were not eligible to marry an employed man or women. Queen Victoria believed that if you were not in the same wealth class you wouldn t be reliable in your marriage. Although, the Victorian time age was very serve, the exceptional backgrounds were very thought provoking. Furthermore, the Victorian era wedding customs were stimulating because of their uniqueness. Dawn Hurst demonstrates how A Church bell at the beginning of the ceremony [drives] out evil forces, and it was considered lucky to drop wedding rings, which would free the rings from any inhabiting spirits (Hurst 1). This is very distinctive because research states that there are barely any people who do weddings like this anymore. People are less likely to achieve this tradition because the marriages now aren t very organized and rushed. While the Victorian time period wedding traditions were unique they were also very elegant during the time period. Lastly the Victorian age wedding customs were attention grabbing because of their elegance. A Victorian wedding is all about class and grace. I was going past the 5th defender, screaming vulgar words at both opposing players and the refs for penalties not called on the other team as I went past them such as a hook by the first and holding by the third, as I remembered my dad, years ago telling me something I will remember for the rest of my life. The leaves were beginning to turn a fall orange, and there was a winter like chill in the air. He pulled over by the entrance, and I went to get my stuff out of the trunk. I slung my bag over my shoulder and pulled out my stick. • 11. How Aerobic Exercise Reduces Oxidative Stress And Improves... Background: The research article entitled Aerobic exercise reduces oxidative stress and improves vascular changes of small mesenteric and coronary arteries in hypertension authored by Fernanda R. Roque and colleagues examines the effects of regular physical activity, namely aerobic exercise training, and its effects on hypertension. Specifically this study aimed at identifying a non pharmacological treatment (exercise) for hypertension, with the assumptions that exercise promotes beneficial vascular remodeling, mechanical, and functional adaptations in the arteries of hypertensive individuals. This study approached the link between exercise and hypertension by analyzing spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) response to a twelve week exercise Prescription. Upon completion of the twelve weeks, measurements of adaptation in coronary and small mesenteric arteries were examined in effort to deduce the efficacy of aerobic exercise as a treatment option (Roque, 2012, p. 687). Efforts to discover a non pharmacological intervention /treatment for hypertension stems from the belief that prevention via lifestyle modifications (exercise) are not only an effective means of preventing and controlling hypertension, but also a cost effective health care strategy (Taylor 2014, p.478). Exercise as a preventative method has been known by researchers for a long time, specifically in terms of its ability to ameliorate hypertension, and subsequent cardiovascular disease (CVD) in at risk ... Introduction Known for his satirical street art that sends messages of awareness of the corrupt society, Banksy, has remarked that a recent survey or North American males found 42% were overweight, 34% were critically obese and 8% ate the survey. With the rising awareness and prevalence, obesity has become an epidemic. In the United States alone, one of every five Americans are overweight, and one of every five are obese. Among the younger ages of childhood and adolescence, the National Health and Nutrition Examination reported that 17% of kids age six through nineteen are obese. This problem, of course, is not limited only to America. Studies performed by the United Nations have reported that in the year 2000, the number of people suffering from overnutrition a billion had officially surpassed the number suffering from malnutrition 800 million. An estimated 2.5 people are added to the global population each second, and one of them will be deemed obese or overweight. • 13. Probation Vs Adult Probation In today s court system, probation is a very common alternative for most all offenses. Probation is used as an alternative opposed to serving jail time. The role of a Probation Officer is summed up best by the mission statement on display in my hometown s probation office; and the statement is, The job of a Shelby County Probation Officer is to effect positive changed behavior in each client through the use of evidence based practices, while becoming proven leaders in promoting and improving community safety. There are some similarities and differencebetween the juvenile and adult probation departments. Some of their similarities included how they work within the day to day and their active duties within the legal system. They differ in the sense where, one is working intensively with the youth, because they re sentenced probation time is very short and rushed period, yet the adult officer could be working with a client for years and years. Urban Regeneration in the London Docklands Essay Urban Regeneration in the London Docklands The London Docklands Development Corporation is located along the River Thames Estuary 2.a) The London Docklands had to close for many reasons. The main reason was the Second World War. The area suffered substantial bomb damage in the Second World War, which lead to the need for a substantial rebuilding programme. In the first 20 years after the Second World War, many buildings came to the end of their usefulness. A number of factors contributed to the decline in the importance of the Docklands. Squats not only help build size to your legs but they also have other added benefits such as improved flexibility and an increase in testosterone and growth hormone production. There are many different techniques to help improve your squat such as the width of your stance or the direction your toes are pointing. But the one technique that seems to be getting the most attention is whether squatting barefoot is more beneficial in activating more muscles in the lower limbs versus squatting wearing an athletic shoe. The following study focuses on the activation of 8 lower limb muscles during a barbell back squat while barefoot and in an athletic shoe. Researchers of this study hypothesize that the barefoot condition will produce more muscle activation in comparison to the athletic shoe condition. Participants in this study were healthy men and women ages 18 24. There were several criterions the participants had to meet before partaking in the study. In an attempt to crush forces seeking independence for East Pakistan, the West Pakistani military regime unleashed an efficient campaign of mass murder which aimed at killing millions of Bengalis, and succeeded in doing so. For the bloodbath in March December 1971 when the Pakistani army executed a largely unarmed Bengali population in the then vital part of Pakistan s state known as East Pakistan , in an effort to suppress the region s demand for independence was at the time the biggest story in the world s media. BACKGROUND INFORMATION Before 1971, Bangladesh was divided into two regions; both with opposing political power. Although East Pakistan (Bangladesh) withheld the larger population between the two provinces, it acquired much less political dominance than West Pakistan. Through the power and representation of leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, East Pakistan rebelled. Rahman, leader of political party The Awami League demanded more powers both politically and economically. This struggle finally cumulated into the war of independence for East Pakistan. If language is a tool dedicated as a communication source to understand one another, why is the way certain people talk being neglected and marked as not an actual language? Language has evolved into more than just words being expressed through our voices, but has converted into a weapon used to ridicule and attack other dialects due to how different and unorthodox a particular language may be. James Baldwin in If Black English Isn t a Language, Then Tell me, What is? argues that Black English was a form of the African American community s own dialectof the English language, and neglecting the language as its own contradicts the definition of the word language itself. On Going Home By Kerstin Bratsch Analysis In Kerstin Bratsch s painting Unstable Talismanic Renderings 27 there is an array of talismans of varied size, shapes and colors depicted on one canvas. The painting can be viewed as symbolic of the human mind. Additionally, the diversity, confusion, energy and activity draw an analogy to the dynamics of the powerhouse, the mind, whereas the absence of cohesion and clarity reflects the transient nature of our thoughts and the fluctuating shades of our emotions. There is constant activity in our brain and this vigor shapes the window through which we look at this world. Joan Didion s essay On Going Home sheds insight onto the dynamic human mind through the paradigm shift Didion experiences on visiting her childhood home for her daughter s first birthday. As one leaf withers and falls from the tree, a new one grows in its place and the tree is complete again. However, Didion s tree is still incomplete as the new leaf, the house she shares with her husband and daughter in Los Angeles, is loosely attached to her tree and hasn t replaced the former leaf, her childhood home in Central Valley of California. The fact that it was written in first person form helped me to conclude that it was probably about the author. I think the reasoning behind his writing of this poem was because in life, you have many obstacles to overcome and many choices and decisions to make, which opens a path that leads the way to your future. Therefore, I found that this poem not only symbolizes or relates to the author, but it also symbolizes or holds true to almost everybody s lives. One of the major symbols within this poem is the roads. When he says Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, he is using the roads to symbolize the paths, choices, and decisions that he has to make in his life. Those decisions guide the way to his future, because when you come to a two way street or road you have to decide or make a choice on which path to take. Also when he says And sorry I could not travel both And be on traveler, he is telling us how he is insecure on which road to take because he is unsure of what s ahead and would like to travel both roads to come up with a conclusion or a decision on the correct road to take. So overall, what road basically symbolizes in this poem is the options that he has in his life and the decisions that he has to make. Another symbol in this poem is the many observations that he makes. When he says long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth, he is using his observations to symbolize the brainstorming, analyzing, and thinking you have to do before or ahead of time when you are offered two options in your life and only one path to take. ... Book Review Of Louise Pubols s The Father Of All The opening chapters of Louise Pubols s well written and carefully documented study of the de la Guerra family of Santa BГЎrbara, California, clearly demonstrate why she chose to title her book The Father of All. Spanish born military officer JosГ© de la Guerra is the central figure in this history, and members of his large familyplay important supporting roles. He arrived in Alta California in 1801 and quickly established California roots with his marriage to MarГa Antonia Carrillo y Lugo, daughter of his commanding officer. The Carrillos and the Lugos were typical of the province s earliest settlers, racially mixed individuals who had left the impoverished towns and mining centers of Sinaloa and Sonora in search of better times, racial whitening, and upward social mobility through military service. De la Guerra became commander of the Santa BГЎrbara presidio in 1815, a position he held until 1827. His Spanish birth, military rank, connections in Mexico City, wife s extended family, and shrewd business acumen helped him build a diversified enterprise that survived the political turmoil and shifting economic climate of California in the first half of the nineteenth century. His official responsibility for overseeing presidio accounts and supply chains enabled him to steer contracts toward his uncle s Mexico City trading firm and to his own burgeoning commercial ventures. He carefully nurtured relationships with ship captains and Franciscan missionaries, many of them fellow Spaniards, and garnered handsome commissions trading with merchants from Peru and the Philippines as well as New Spain. By the 1820s, de la Guerra had broadened his business and family ties to include merchants from Great Britain and the United States. His daughter Teresa s marriage to a Briton and her sister Anita s to an American formed part of a calculated strategy to capture the potentially hostile traders and integrate them into Californio systems of family obligation and dependence (p. 10). Thus, class assumed a prominent role in influencing the Gilded Age and Progressive Era. Changing Working Conditions In the 19th century, there were several structural changes in the nature of work. These changes included deskilling of jobs, which led to the decline of the heroic artisan and economic depressions. All these factors contributed to tense strikes between workers and employers. During the Antebellum period, most white American workers were self reliant, but the nature of work and production began to shift after the Civil War, as the industrial workplace increased in size, immigration swelled, and the number of wage workers surpassed that of self employed men. Thus, heroic artisans experienced threats with the emergence of a class of permanent wage workers, which killed their republic dreams for American economic self sufficiency, property ownership, and self employment. Nevertheless, the real challenge for white wage Americans began in the 1870s and 1880s, as xenophobic anxieties of Chinese workers emerged. [1] Additionally, the late 19th century was ... • 35. Reflection Paper In Counseling Self reflection Paper Productiveness The most productive part of the counseling session was when I found myself thinking about how I left my door unlocked and windows open, which did leave to an awkward pause, however I regained self awareness and began to discuss how the client and I will discuss his goals in a future session. The reason I found this to be the most productive was because it pushed me to regain control in an effective way and demonstrated that counselors makes mistakes to the client, which could add to the authenticity aspect. Problem Areas There are several areas of which I need to improve upon. One of the biggest areas of improvement would include be responding opposed to reacting. For example when the client stated, I train my dog to go to the bathroom on my neighbor s lawn and I don t have a dog. I immediately began laughing. I should have paused, then responded with a clarifying question. Another problem area was, the awkward pauses and loose structure. I believe I had several awkward pauses throughout the session as a result of overthinking. I should have stated what came to me naturally instead of worrying about saying it correctly or in a specific order. Ethics Ethics appeared in this session when discussing the informed consent. The reason a counselor goes over informed consent with their client is because the categories within the form can lead to ethical dilemmas if left unclear. In this session, I felt as though I had gone over each category in the document. Though with that being said, I feel that next session I will elaborate in a more concise and efficient manner. In this session, I was a bit unorganized and reiterated a lot of the same information. Multicultural Competencies Unfortunately I do not feel that I grew in a multicultural competent manner. I think that when the client and I have our next session, there will be room to grow culturally because the focus will be on him, not the informed consent. Self Advocacy When the client and I discussed the referral process and areas outside of my scope of practice that I believe spoke to the self advocacy piece. The client understood that if he was in crisis I could assist him with calling 911 or provide him with crisis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Cultural Movement of the Skinheads One of the biggest cultural movements to arise from Reggae was the Skinheads. Skinhead culture grew from the fusion between the modernists or Mods and Jamaican rude boys. Mod culture was a youth movement in British cities that originated in the late 1950s, that represented a certain fashion, music tastes and scooter riding. The peak of the Mod culture matched up with the time when the majority of Caribbean immigrants arrived in the UK, in the mid 60 s. Due to a large amount of Mods being of working class backgrounds, they were one of the few groups to mix with the Caribbean immigrants. Once Mod culture declined, due to commercialisation of the style and their demonisation due to the violence between them and rival Rockers , some Mods began the Skinheadmovement by integrating Jamacian style and music into Mod fashion. Many young mods of the mid/late 1960s lived in the same working class and economically challenging areas as Jamaican immigrants in areas such as parts of South London. Those hard mods eventually created the Skinhead movement. Those Mods began integrating the rude boy fashion of short trousers, braces and Trilbys into their fashion of Fred Perry shirts, skinnier jeans and Dr. Martens boots. The actual skinhead aspect of very short hair originates with working class Mods and very early Skinheads who choose to cut their hair this short for the practical reasons of it not impeding them in either street fights and football brawls, that some Mods ... This disease is the most common lethal genetic disorder in Caucasians, affecting one out of 2,500. On the bioethical front, CF was the first human genetic disease to be cloned by geneticists. In order to determine the exact location of the CF gene, probes were taken from the nucleotide sequence obtained from chromosome jumping. To find these probes, horse, cow, chicken, and mouse DNA was separated using Southern Blot electrophoresis. Two probes were found to bind to all of the vertebrates DNA. This meant that the base pairs within the probes contained related information, possibly even the gene. The Northern Blot electrophoresis technique was then used to distinguish between the two probes still remaining in order tofind out which one actually contained the CF gene. This was successful because Northern Blot electrophoresis tests RNA, not DNA. The RNA of cell types affected with CF, along with the RNA of unaffected cell types were placed on a gel. Probe number two bound to the RNA of affected cell types in the pancreas, colon, and nose (all CF affected cells,) but did not bind to the RNA from non affected cell types like those of the brain and heart. Probe number one did not bind exclusively to cell types from CF affected areas like number two did. From this evidence, these scientists determined that probe number two contained the CF gene. Energy from Coal: The Nation s Dirty Secret Abstract While technology has led the world into such an advanced setting with intelligent machinery and automated devices, coal has remained a loyal contributor of the energy needed by these various types of equipment to function properly. Almost half of the electricity in the United States is produced in coal plants where coal is burnt to produce this energy [1]. Both beneficial and detrimental factors come with this alternative source of energy, known by the world for centuries. Background Information Even with the quantity of fossil fuels dwindling due to human consumption, coal has remained one of the cheapest, reliable sources of electricity, natural gas, diesel fuel, and steel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But there are also many detrimental factors as well, since the production of coal results in air pollution, sulfur dioxide emission, carbon dioxide emission, acid rain, and hazardous waste [4]. These environmental problems are due to both the mining of coal and coal production plants. Many issues arise with the mining of coal. Firstly, the safety of miners is put at risk as they descend hundreds of feet below the surface of the Earth. After many years in this field of work, many miners develop black lung because of inhaling the coal extensively. Secondly, the extraction of coal is very costly due to the machinery needed along with the transportation of the coal after it has been mined to the various factories that are able to extract the sulfur impurities in coal and burn the coal for energy [5]. New methods have been developed to help with some of the issues relating to coal production. To rid the surrounding environment of toxic pollution, emission scrubbing technology has been installed into coal plants. This is approximately 90% to 95% affective in eliminating the mercury, sulfur, and nitrogen emissions [6]. As for the deep mining issues, there is another method to retrieve coal from the Earth, removing the entire mountain tops covering a reserve of coal beneath. Although this ... Since people who have foreign language skills surely spent much time not only in studying the language itself but also in engaging with its culture, they can see things from other different perspectives, not from a single perspective. The latest study actually shows that bilingual children are more capable of understanding others perspectives than those who speak only one language(Whyte, 2016). Moreover being multilingual can also prevent Alzheimer s and other diseases that affect the brain. In the international business world, workers who can speak foreign languages have more flexibility to choose their jobs than monolingual workers. Based on the U.S. experience (highly influenced by the Exxon Valdez oil spill), the history of bioremediation in spill response can be divided into three development periods (after Hoff, 1993): the courtship period until 1989, the honeymoon period from 1989 until 1991, and the establishment period since 1992. 1. Courtship Period (pre 1989) The first courtship period was primarily a research period, when bioremediation was little known outside the microbiology or hazardous waste community. Many published articles from the 1970s and earlier documented the process of microbial degradation of oil, both in the laboratory and in field trials. A number of scientific papers on this topic were published during the 1970s and 1980s, including several review papers covering mechanisms of biodegradation, and papers presenting results from controlled field experiments measuring degradation rates in various environments. Several studies following major oil spills like the Amoco Cadiz measured oil degradation in the environment and confirmed previously published results from laboratory studies (Hoff, 1993). These works established a basic understanding of biodegradation of oil as an important component of the process known as
