Differences Between Idealism and Realism
Philosophers say the key to understanding human life is answering the really philosophical questions
such as why are we here? Where did we come from? Where will we go? And so on and so forth. This
has truly been a debate for the ages in philosophy, one that has stimulated thinkers, philosophers,
theologists and scientists for thousands of years, hence led emergence of idealism and realism as two
major traditional philosophical schools of thought in the realm of philosophy. So this paper projects
the meaning of idealism and meaning of realism then discusses in detail the basic assumptions of
idealism and those of realism and how these two traditional schools of thought differ and their
implications within the educational setting.

We achieve greater and greater knowledge through proper study of the world. In Realism, a person is
an empty vessel for knowledge which can only come from outside of the self, through observation.
Aristotle is an exponent of realism. He asserts that matter has an objective reality and that matter is the
underlying principle of all things.
Philosophers like Herbert Spencer and John Locke postulated that matter is the ultimate reality. They
say that things we experience with our senses such as hills, trees, animals, sand, water and man are
simply not ideas in the mind of the observing individuals or even in the mind of an external observer.
Rather they exist in themselves independent of the mind. Realism categorized in Religious realism,
Aristotle Realism and Scientific realism Religious realism represented by Thomas Aquinas asserts that
mind and matter form the composite. Man is a composite of body and soul. The spirit is more
important and higher than the body. He argues that this is proved through revelation and reasoning.
Seetharamu (1989) argues that Aristotle Realism was proposed by Aristotle who was Plato s student
where by Aristotle believed that the world could be understood at a fundamental level through the
detailed observation and cataloguing of phenomenon. That is knowledge, which is what the word

Australia s Emergency Medical Services
Like many countries, Australia s emergency medical services started out as just people transporting
sick and injured patients to the hospital. This service evolved along with technology and time. In the
1960 s, the defibrillator made its way onto the ambulance, and the CPR technique was developed
(Tintinalli, Cameron, Holliman, 2010). This new cardiac care soon spread all over the world and is
perhaps the beginning of what we recognize now as emergency medical services. Soon ambulance
personnel was required to learn more than just basic first aid. This personnel was responding to
emergency calls and providing medical treatments as well as transportation to the hospital. The EMS
service has continually evolved with new technology and the ... Show more content on

The paramedic will interpret the EKG and other vitals to make a determination of the appropriate
intervention based on a set of predetermined criteria to reduce the pain and minimize the chance of the
condition worsening. The emphasis for the paramedic is to treat the current symptoms and not concern
themselves with the underlying issue as to why the patient may have developed chest pain.
The website About.com defines clinician as Anyone who has patient care responsibilities. It usually
means a physician, but there are other healthcare professionals who can also be considered clinicians,
such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Unlike the paramedic that must operate under
predetermined protocols, a clinician has the knowledge to use judgment to look at the factors that have
influenced a patient s illness or injury. Instead of just giving nitro to treat the chest pain, the clinician
has the duty to recommend a course of preventative measures such as diet, exercise, and perhaps
prescribe a daily dose of aspirin.
Currently, in Australia, paramedics are required to have a bachelor s degree to work as paramedics.
This degree changes them from technicians to clinicians. This new requirement required a change in
both education and culture. To change the culture, the importance of education had to occur within the
field of paramedicine (Escott, 2016). To change the culture around the profession, respect for the job,
knowledge, and

NFL Football Salary Cap Analysis
The second and largest aspect of the White Settlement involves the salary cap. The cap represents a
specific amount of money which can be spent on player salaries will be a defined percentage of the
defined gross revenues (Mavris). This will create competitive balance across the league because it will
force all teams to abide by the same cap ceiling. Regardless of a teams value or demographic all teams
will have to spend the same amount on player salaries. The final aspect of the White Settlement
creates the concept of franchise and transition tenders. It states that all players with five years of NFL
playing experience whose contracts expire may negotiate and enter into contracts with NFL teams as
an unrestricted free agent. The franchise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also will drastically increase that player s salary. Franchises must be careful when applying the
franchise tag as it can be expensive and with the creation of the salary cap they must abide by a certain
total salary for all their players, and by placing the franchise tag on a certain player that player s salary
will become very expensive and its fully guaranteed. The transition designation is very similar to the
franchise designation. The White Settlement states, by tendering an offer of a one year contract at a
salary amounting to the greater of (1) the average of the salaries of the ten highest paid players at the
designated player s same position, or (2) a twenty percent increase in the designated player s previous
years salary (Mavris). The team applying the designation would retain exclusive negotiating rights
over that player, a key difference between a franchise and transition designation. The inclusive of the
White Settlement changed the direction of the NFL and allowed players to increase their salaries, but
also restricted large player movement from year to year. It also gave the team the ability to hold on to
their top players and be compensated for losing restricted free agents. The White Settlement changed
the landscape of the NFL has it moved forward into the 1990s and was instrumental in creating the
salary cap that continues to govern the NFL

How Does Satrapi Present Religion In Persepolis
In Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi disproves preconceptions of Iranian culture through the use of
illustrations in a graphic novel format. Originally written in French, Satrapi s graphic novel is set in
Iran during the Iranian Revolution, and tells the story of Satrapi s childhood, through her childhood
self, Marji. In the graphic novel Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi incorporates religious icons to suggest
that a loss of individuality leads to the invalidity of preconceptions of Iranian oppression.
Allusions towards God and Karl Marx are used to show opposing viewpoints that went through Marji
s mind during the revolution, both sides of her persona are seen fighting for her full attention. Marji
admired both figures, although their perspectives towards the relationship between religion and
government are contradicting. Marji is reading a book before she goes to bed, entitled Dialectic ...

It was funny to see how much Marx and God looked like each other (Satrapi, 13.3). Marji feels as
though part of her identity lies within figures of both God and Karl Marx. In illustrating Marx and
God to look nearly identical by giving them the same graphic weight, Satrapi brings her readers, who
were once observers, into the story and Marji s life, forcing them to make a decision between the two,
alongside Marji. Marji, is realizing that the two s beliefs are contrasting, and she must choose which
of the two she admires more. God and Marx have such different standpoints. There is God, who is so
invested in religion and fate, and then there is Marx, who once stated religion is a protest against real
suffering. Marji s conflicts between Marx and God changes the way Iranians during the revolution
were perceived. Following Satrapi s comparison of God and Marx, the narration states Despite
everything, God came to see me from time

Community Paramedic Benefits
The Economic Benefit of Community Paramedics Paramedics and EMTs alike work twenty four hours
a day, every day of the year. These highly trained individuals respond to 9 1 1 calls all over the
country keeping citizens safe from harm. Unfortunately this same service is abused by many
individuals who tax the system and slow down response times. Recently, many state government
officials began to propose community paramedic programs where patients can be evaluated and even
treated at home depending on their nature of illness. Although the start off for these programs can be
costly, the benefits outweigh the cost as community paramedics can benefit the health system by
preventing illness and reducing the amount of emergency transfers to the hospital. ... Show more

The training to become a community paramedic includes 114 didactic hours and 196 clinical hours
(Emerging Health Professions). The economic cost of sending current paramedics through this extra
training would be minimal and would provide an economic benefit to the community. These
paramedics would increase access to primary and preventive care and decrease use of emergency
departments, which in turn decreases health care costs (Emerging Health Professions). Most of the
available treatments and interventions preformed at an emergency room are also done in ambulances
(See Table 2).
Table 2: Selected procedures at emergency department visits: United States, 2011 ( National
Ambulatory Medical Care Survey ) The future of health care is community paramedics. The high
demand for transportation to non emergency facilities and a high 9 1 1 misuse will ensure a successful
future of the community programs. With high career growth in paramedicine, the healthcare field will
continue to expand, allowing more communities to receive appropriate preventative and routine health

Injury In Baseball
Healing the Injuries that Happen in Baseball For baseball players, it is essential to stay healthy. One of
the reasons a player tends to focus on healing his body is that if a player sits out injured for too long,
he may lose his starting position. Though this is always in the forefront of a player s mind, the first
thing he should think about is healing his body so that he can continue his career. The most common
injury to baseball players is tennis elbow . Other injuries baseball players deal with are dislocated
joints and broken bones. Though baseball may seem like a less injury prone sport than soccer or
football, it can have just as many injuries with life changing implications as the hard hitting sports.

The main focus of injured players is getting back to full health and stepping foot onto the field. All
this constitutes a player having the mind set of continuing his career. The most common injury to
baseball players is tennis elbow, and tennis elbow is only treated in a nonsurgical manner by physical
therapy with steroid shots and surgically by the replacing of diseased muscles. Baseball players have
to deal with the problem of injured and dislocated shoulders, which are treated by rotator cuff
surgeries in the most extreme of cases. Dislocated hips are also a part of the game, requiring months of
rest for recovery. Players also suffer from broken bones. Though baseball may seem like a less injury

Health Care And The United States
Health care has come a very long way since the earlier years, and still has a lot of improving to do.
Health care can be very complex and frustrating, but has become a bit more manageable compared to
the past. Hospitals today are a lot different then how they were years ago. Many hospitals are making
medical advances to help people live longer, healthier lives. Health care is one of the most important
benefits to a persons life. There are so many things affecting the health of people all around the world,
both positive and negative. Canada and the United States health care systems are not perfect and needs

and Schmid, A. 2008). In contrast, the United States established the Affordable Care Act (ACA),
which was implemented to improve access to health, improve quality of health, and make health care
more affordable. Historically, Americans were treated with medicinal herbs and anecdotal information
in their homes. Doctors were sole decision makers about admissions, length of stay, resource use, and
referrals. The U.S health care system changed by having hospital fiscal penalties for lengths of stay,
admissions require payer approval, and readmissions carry penalties. As well as, people are getting
treated in hospitals, primary care office, and rehabs, instead of their homes. Having access to
hospitals, and getting treated with these new drugs and new technologies, one would think that
everyone would get the same kind of health care. However, gender and ethnic disparities contribute to
many individuals having access to health care. Access to health is the determinant factor of the health
disparities. In the United States disparities are well documented in minority populations such as
African Americans, Native Americans, Asian Americans and Hispanics, all of which constitute twenty
eight percent of the population (McHenry, G.). Ethnic disparities, indicators include social justice,
economic realities, shifting census, and disease burden. Latinos tend to have low access to care and
language barriers effecting both access and quality care. Studies show that

The Egyptians had harsh punishments for breaking the law. The laws were based on common sense
view of right and wrong. It depended on which crime the criminal did to figure out which punishment
they would receive. Not only would it disgrace them, but it would disgrace their whole family.
Now, Egypt uses criminal codes. The criminal codes listed three main categories of crime: minor
offenses, misdemeanors, and felonies. Lower courts handled the majority of these cases. Capitol
crimes that carried a possible death sentence includes murder, manslaughter, arson or the uses of
explosives that caused death, rape, treason, and endangerment of state security. In Egypt few
convictions for capital crimes, however, resulted in execution.
Egypt laws required that a detained person be brought before a magistrate and formally charged within
48 hours or released. The accused are entitled to post bail and had the right to defended by legal
counsel. Searches can not be conducted without a warrant.
The justice system in the United States is one of the most unique in the world. It consists of two
separate levels of courts, state and federal.. Most of the laws that govern our day to day living are state
laws; violations of federal law include offenses involving federal government employees, kidnapping
or evading arrest, and fraud such as income tax or postal fraud.
There are two types of trials: criminal and civil. In a

The Five Basic Rules Of Narrative Writing
The five basic rules of narrative writing can be applied to any report writing situation and will allow
for the successful completion of any investigative report. Many of these reports were established to
help investigators achieve in their writing and allow them to complete the writing task as quickly as
possible so they can get the information. In addition to the five basic rules of narrative writing the
investigator can do other things as well to develop the report and improve its professional quality
towards the report. The first rule of narrative writing is called first person. When writing a report or
during the time someone gives you information you should always write in the first person and refer to
yourself as I or me . As the writes of an investigative report you are always correct in using the
personal pronouns I and me when referring to yourself. (Biggs, Michael, 17) The second rule of
narrative writing is called past tense. The past tense is the tense that is most commonly used to
describe events or actions that have already occurred which means by writing a report using past tense
can develop consistency and can make the report easier to read. ( Biggs, Michael, 17) The third rule of
narrative writing is called active voice. The active voice is the way of writing that shows action that
someone is doing and with a passive voice that is caused by someone who is having something done
to them.( Biggs, Michael, 18) The fourth rule of narrative writing is

The Physiological Condition Of Caffeine Essay
Introduction:
Caffeine has become a staple in the majority of the adult population s normal routine but is the
substance actually benefitting one s mental prowess? Memory is the brain s ability to catalog skills or
experiences for future needs (Sherwood et al. 2005). There are two types of memory which are
declarative (explicit) memory and procedural (implicit) memory; declarative memory deals with
storage of information dealing with names or places, etc., while procedural memory deals with one s
physiological processes such as walking or talking (Sherwood et al. 2005 ). The physiological
condition responsible for the packing of new skills or information is referred to as memory trace,
which has two types of storage, short term or long term memory. When a new fact or skill is
introduced to someone, the first step is to be deposited into short term memory where it will either
soon be discharged or kept within the brain s internal catalog (long term memory) through a process
known as active practice; the more often a new skill or fact is processed, the more likely the
information will be consolidated within long term memory (Sherwood et al. 2005). That information
which is stored in long term memory also faces the possibility of loss due to the significance or use by
the individual.
Caffeine is an antagonistic molecule which is classified as a methyl xanthine (Sherwood et al. 2005).
It is the most commonly taken stimulant which affects the central nervous system (Nehlig

The Developmental History Of Nosql And The Fundamental...
Abstract
The demands on database technology have been ever expanding since its introduction in the 1960 s.
Today traffic on the internet requires that millions upon millions of records be stored and queried each
second. Data must be highly available and quickly retrievable. These requirements put together have
given rise to new forms of database technologies collectively called NoSQL or Not Only SQL .
NoSQL eschews the strict guidelines that govern the creation and function of traditional relational
databases. These guidelines are put aside in order to rise to the new demands of an increasingly
interconnected world. The rigorous standards and data definitions of relational databases give way in
order to provide the ability to rapidly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
NoSQL is able to address the massive traffic loads experienced by database servers at corporations
that specialize in data processing like Google, Facebook and Amazon. NoSQL technologies can
provide near constant availability, massive user concurrency and lightning fast responses. There are
four primary NoSQL database implementation types being used today: document based, wide column
(or columnar), key value and graph. The different properties of SQL and NoSQL databases will be
examined and an overview of each NoSQL implementation type along with an example will be given.
ACID v. BASE: Eventual consistency Standard SQL databases adhere to what are commonly called
the ACID properties. This means that the database must be atomic, consistent, isolated and durable.
Atomic means that each attribute cannot be broken into sub groups. Consistent means that the
database displays only the latest data; there are no older versions of data present within the database
unless by design. Isolated means that no transactions will interfere with one another; i.e. two
concurrent users changing the same data in the database will not end with incorrect results; the
transactions will be processed separately. Durable means that once changes have been made they will
remain in place and not revert to their prior state (Pritchett, 2008). The ACID properties can be crucial
to certain business models; financial transactions might require

Is The Self Mutilation Is Characterized By Autoagressive...
Self mutilation is characterized by autoagressive behaviors without intent to die, and is not
uncommonly encountered in clinical practice, with an estimated prevalence of 4.3% in general
psychiatric patients. The highest incidences of self mutilation have been reported in prisoners,
institutionalized teenagers with antisocial traits, and among those diagnosed with autism,
schizophrenia, intellectual disabilities, and traumatic brain injuries [1].
Major self mutilation is a rare, severe manifestation of deliberate self harm that results in perpetual
loss of function or capacity of an organ and constitutes a medical/surgical and psychiatric
emergency[2]. Notably the act of major self mutilation usually is associated with delusions or
hallucinations [3].Auto emasculation, a subtype of major self mutilation, typically manifests in the
context of schizophrenia[4] , and presents a significant management challenge for both
medical/surgical and psychiatric providers, in part because of the lack of clinical guidelines for
pharmacological management.
Here, we describe a patient with schizoaffective disorder who presented with status post auto
emasculation in context of severe psychosis. While penile reattachment was unsuccessful, the patient s
psychotic symptoms responded well to clozapine, a third line antipsychotic medication that has been
demonstrated to be effective for treatment of aggressive behaviors [5]. To our knowledge, we are the

The American Civil Rights Movement
Has someone ever told you that you were not allowed to do something that others had the right to?
Maybe it was your parents, your boss, the government, but you thought you had just enough right as
anyone else did? Well, during the 1960 s not everyone had the same rights. During the Civil Rights
Movement, African Americans were fighting for equality. They didn t want separate but equal they
wanted full equality for their people. This caused many riots throughout the US. When we look at riots
we tend to think violence, although most riots were violent, not all were. One Civil Rights Movement
leader imparticular, Martin Luther King Jr., was for peaceful riots. He wanted the people to hear what
he had to say during his speeches, and to stop the violence. However, there was another Civil Rights
Movement leader, Malcolm X, who was more about violence and hatred. Both activists were fighting
for the same cause but were for different perspectives. One question that many might have is which
view was most influential during the Civil Rights Movement? I believe that not only is nonviolence
morally right, but also it helped African Americans get their point across, where as violence was
unjust and helping neither the black or white population. Martin Luther King Jr., was the most
influential leader of nonviolence during the civil rights movement. He first became well known when
he organized the protest against bus segregation in Montgomery, Alabama. In this time, if a white

Limitations of Population Growth
Introduction There are a number of factors that can contribute to the growth of a population and these
trends can be seen in a number of species. It is generally believed, from an ecological perspective, that
populations will display either an exponential of logistic growth rate. If optimal environments are
consistently maintained with no biotic or abiotic limiting factors (excess food, excess space
availability, optimum climactic environment, no predation, etc) then a population will grow in an
exponential direction. Species with high maximal relative growth rates do not occupy infertile habitats
because their physiologies are more sensitive to suboptimal habitats and so their relative growth rates
decrease more rapidly as fertility ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

supplemented group of Daphnia magna received food weekly, the unsupplemented did not. Spring
water was added periodically to the bottles when the water levels were below the line marked

illuminate the Daphnia and allowed them to be visible. The daphnia were placed in the designated lab
area that maintained at room temperature. The data for a total span of 8 weeks was pooled and

The supplemented group showed a steady decline in the population while the unsupplemented group
at first began with a significant drop off at first but then also became a steady decline. The week with

cleanings and check ups per year, eye check ups including coverage for glasses or contacts, and an
annual physical covered 100% by the insurance company. All these extra requirements being inforced
by the government is going to cause the cost of health care plans to go up so insurance companies can
cover the new expenses. Even if a person doesn t want the extra coverage on their plans its going to be
included along with a jacked up price. The Affordable Care Act is not looking so affordable.
Individuals checkbooks are not the only place that is going to take swift punch to the gut. Small
businesses having 50 or less employees are also going to take a brutal hit. Several plans provided by
small businesses will have to be terminated unless they are changed so they meet all the needs of the
new requirements of the Affordable Care Act. The American Enterprise Institute estimated that as
many as 100 million working Americans will lose their employer sponsored insurance coverage .
Small businesses already are paying more for their health insurance now they are going to lose it all

Essay on Music and It s Influence
Music and it s influence
It is no doubt that music has played a vital role in our society. Everything from loud, head banging
concerts to religious ceremonies have utilized the medium of music because of its awe inspiring
qualities. Music is basically the control of sound. We can control this sound by varying the pitch,
tempo, octaves, dynamics and so on. There are thousands of ways that we can use music and to shape
it to how we want to hear it. But how much has music influenced the way we think today? Why is it so
popular?
Music dates right back to the prehistoric eras where primitive instruments were constructed using
items like bone and wood. These primitive musicians would not have known many of the modern
terms such as octaves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we see a film about a jungle, normally the soundtrack is composed of instruments like bongos or
shakers. This is because we instantly associate this sort of music with jungles and indigenous tribes.
So whilst some parts of the world stayed traditionalist, other parts were taking music to the next step.
Western cultures have used music for almost every aspect of life. Music was used for entertainment,
religion, war cries and important ceremonies. Some countries have unfortunately lost their culture and
heritage thanks to more developed countries trying to expand their empires. A good example of this is
when the indigenous Mexican people were murdered in their homeland by the invading Spanish and
replaced the traditional drums and flutes with more vibrant shakers and trumpets. It is no doubt that
the way upper countries have acted has greatly affected the distribution of music worldwide.
I m sure you ll all agree when I say that music is changing very fast. It s either that or we keep
changing our tastes in music every five minutes which is far more probable. Today if someone put on
a record from just 10 20 years ago we d probably think of that music as being incredibly old or very
simple. I don t know about you, but I can t stand to watch some (if not most) of the early Top of the
Pops because the music is so old. We think of this as being old, but in

A Comparison Of Jack The Ripper And Lizzie Borden
Paden Schmitt
Mrs. Burrow
English 3
November 2, 2017
Jack the Ripper and Lizzie Borden
Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother forty whacks, when she saw what she had done she
gave her father forty one. Jack the Ripper and the Lizzie Borden Murders were both violent crimes
that impacted the world during the late 1800s. Jack the Ripper was a serial killer who was never
found. Lizzie Borden had her parents murdered and most people believe she did it but was never
accused of the murders. They both are unsolved cases that people still talk about today.
Jack the Ripper was a serial killer in the United Kingdom in 1888. Why is Jack the Ripper so famous?
He was essentially a media star. He is believed to only have 11 victims but, the media is what made
him famous throughout England. All of his victims were alcoholics who turned to prostitution, says
Thomas K. Grose from Time Magazine. Also, the area where Jack the Ripper killed all his victims was
well known. It was known as a hotbed of vice and villainy, and a breeding ground for social unrest.
Jack the Ripper was never found and over the course of these many years there have been hundreds of
suspects but nobody has been brought to justice.
The worst thing about Jack the Ripper is the way that he murdered his victims. It was not just a quick
stab or a bullet, but sheer violence. He ripped them to pieces. Most of his victims weren t recognizable
after he was done with them. That is how he got his name, Jack the Ripper.

Youth Delinquency
I searched for articles and recent publications on the topic of youth delinquency in the United States
on both Google, which is the search engine I use the most, as well as on EBSCO. Reading through the
results on both search engines was very informative and I believe I was able to form a solid
understanding of the topic and current discussions through the information I gathered.
Google
While searching through Google I received a lot of relevant information. However, when I started to
assess my results based on accuracy, authority, objectivity, and currency, I discovered that researched
based solely on the results from Google may not be the most beneficial. In terms of the search engines
accuracy, the first page of results included ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem with that is that youth face a lot more pressures especially with technology and social
media that those articles did not take into account.
EBSCO
I also searched on EBSCO for information about youth delinquency and this time was able to compare
my results on this research platform to the results I received on Google. The results I received on
EBSCO were heavily academic with the majority being from academic journals, other research based
databases, libraries, established corporations, and open source information. The results were quite
accurate in that they were heavily technical with industry jargon and references to other works and
sources of information. From page to page, the results yielded a high level of relevance to the topic
with little that did not relate to what I was trying to learn. I could discern the authority of the authors
and originators because they had their titles and connection to the topic clearly stated within the
article. I had concrete evidence that these were field experts who had some level of authority and
therefore reliable knowledge to be publishing information regarding youth delinquency. The
objectivity in the article was also clear because the publications had structure and included the
methods that were used to produce the research. Those results often included components such as an

Reaction Paper On The Best Rice Cooker
Have you ever come across rice that is not perfectly cooked? Or rice where one spoon seems delicious
and the other spoonful seems gritty? This is what I had to experience a lot of times and one day I
decided that I could not take it any longer. The problem was rather simple. My rice cooker was unable
to cook properly because of no uniform heat.

There was such a huge assortment of rice cookers stacking the market shelves and this time I did not
want to repeat my mistake of settling for something less than what meets my requirements. I wanted a
rice machine that does not only claim to be good, but is actually good in its true sense.

Any Complaints about the Zojirushi Rice Cooker?
Most reviews I came across were positive and the users were satisfied. However, I found a review

person to person. Maybe he did not use it properly. In general, the positive feedbacks overruled the
negative ones.

Jacksonian Era Essay
The Jacksonian Era (1824 1848)
Although the Age of Jackson wasn t a time era, which brought forth a great political, social, or
economic freedom and equality to the U.S., it did in fact put our country through a metamorphosis in
our political lives of the nation. The start of a new presidency (Jackson s presidency) was
accompanied by huge numbers of Hickoryites (Jacksonian supporters) and official hopefuls. Many of
these hopefuls were granted their desire of holding office, which is one of the changes brought into
Washington by Andrew Jackson.
The major accomplishments of Jackson during his presidency pertain to his rural upbringing and
democratic beliefs. To name a couple of Jackson s memorable accomplishments and decisions not ...

The selection of officials of Jackson was in many cases the return of a financial grant during
campaigning. The consideration of the ability to govern, have intelligence and responsibility etc. were
ignored in the wake of compensation. Although opposites alike were granted power they were not
always for the continuance of democracy.
Jackson was the most democratic of any president at that time to come to power. In practically all
areas of political application there was the existence of liberal thinking. This was especially apparent
in his previously mentioned appointment of officials. Jackson considered the roles of officials fairly
simple and could and should be carried out by all people not just the members of the socially and
intellectually elite. The belief of complete equality is with out a doubt Jacksonian. Despite this already
democratic view, Jackson took it one step further and appointed the illiterate and plain incompetent
members of society to office.
Tariffs plagued the president also many times, but the most remembered were the Tariff of
Abominations in 1828, and the tariff of 1832. South Carolina passed an Ordinance of Nullification,
and upset Jackson tremendously. They stated that those tariffs were null and void to South Carolina,
and it would be unlawful to collect for duties. They also had the nerve to warn the

How Did The Edo Period Impact The Tokugawa Period
How did the Tokugawa Period impact the people of Japan?
The Tokugawa period or otherwise known as the Edo period has been recognised as an extremely
significant aspect of Japanese history and left history changing effects on the country. In this essay,
five primary aspects of the Edo period, which has helped produce present day Japan and had greatly
impacted on the nation during this period will be addressed:
Politics, Social structure,The Samurai, Relations with the West and Culture.
Politics:
Tokugawa rulers during the 17th century greatly improved a multitude of separate political aspects
and as a result, positively impacted the nation and citizens. A primary example of this is Tokugawa s
establishment of the capital at Edo which in present day Japan is called the iconic Tokyo. Additionally,
he established a strong central government, along with his shoguns imposing an era of unity, stability,
and peace in Japan. The shoguns closely monitored and controlled the local daimyo possessed a
relative amount of power but remained to be tested for their loyalty and kept under control by the
shoguns who restricted their family and eventually became hostages. The daimyo was required to
maintain two residences in an attempt to prevent rebellion because of this wasting factor which
prohibited them as they had minuscule amounts of time to construct a powerful army due to constantly
needing to defend two residences. The Tokugawa period was an era of peace, stability, and

Elizabeth Bennet Individuality
Pride and Prejudice, a novel by Jane Austen published in 1813. It is, to this day, universally loved and
revered. A classic, one may say. This tells the story of the prejudice that occurred in the 19th century
and the pride which kept lovers apart. The lovers in this story are Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy.
Elizabeth was a quick witted girl, but her wits took her to make quick judgments. Mr. Darcy was a
man born into wealth, with a strong ego. They, however, put their differences behind them. The
eighteenth century British novelist Laurence Sterne wrote, Nobody, but he who has felt it, can
conceive what a plaguing thing it is to have a man s mind torn asunder by two projects of equal
strength, both obstinately pulling in a contrary direction at the same time. This story proves this quote

She wanted to be expressive and take a stance, but in her time and age, it was unrealistic. A struggle
she faced, for example, was when Jane was ill at Netherfield Park. Elizabeth was torn between her

muddy fields to her sister. Elizabeth s mother was against her going through fields as she said, How
can you be so silly, as to think of such a thing, in all this dirt! You will not be fit to be seen when you
get there. (Austen 24) Her mother did not want her to go, because it would look very poorly on her
behalf. Elizabeth however not caring about her reputation, was insistent on walking to Jane. Elizabeth
did not want to conform to society, ever. So when Collins asks for Elizabeth s hand in marriage, she,
among the pressure from her family, promptly refused. To Elizabeth, Collins was foolish and
pompous, and she could stand to think to ever marry someone so humiliating. Even when Darcy

Catapult Research Paper
During the Middle Ages, many weapons were created to help in the winning battles. There was a
weapon was the siege engine called a catapult. The term catapult came from the Greek word
katapultos . A catapult was a large machine on wheels with a basket attached to a long wooden arm
and a power source for hurling projectiles on the other. The first catapult however was invented around
400 BC in Greek town Syracuse. It was not the type seen so many times at our own wars in today s
Society for Creative Anachronism. The first catapult closely resembled a crossbow. It was called the
Gastraphete, and worked similar to a crossbow. The Gastraphete had to be pointed at the ground and
the operator had to use great force to set the weapon to fire. The Greeks were so impresses with the ...

The men would bring down the shorter end of the long beam or arm, causing the longer end of the arm
to flip up, causing the basket to loose it s projectile towards the intended target. Some of these siege
weapons were held by men and cause some difficulty in battle.Gravity powered catapults simply used
gravity to hurl the projectile. At its most basic understanding, a gravity catapult is simply a lever that
uses centrifugal force to its advantage. Think of it as a modified seesaw. When two people are on the
seesaw and both are of close weight, the seesaw balances itself. If another person came up and jumped
on one end of the seesaw with one of the people, the single person on the opposite end is likely to
become airborne. Like the seesaw, a gravity powered catapult is also pivoted in the middle. A counter
weight was built onto one end of the catapult and a basket or sling on the other. The projectile end was
pulled down forcing the counterweighted end to

Example Of Superstition
TEXT OF SUPERSTITION
The superstition that I am going to tell you is a really common Malay s superstition that has been
passed down to me since I was a kid. I think you are already familiar with it because I always said this
to you when you were a kid, to make sure you returned home before sunset after spending hours
playing with your friends. During Maghrib (after sunset), Muslim kids are not allowed to play outside
their house, or a scary ghost will kidnap them . Your grandparents introduced this to me when I was
about 6 years old. They told this superstition to me every time before I went out and play with my
friends. People who live in villages are great believers in ghost and spirits. I was raised in a village
setting, so I grew up hearing a lot of stories about ghosts, spirits and black magic. This superstition is
related to ghosts, so it makes me scared, as I believe that there were really a ghost that trying to kidnap
me if I return home after sunset. Malays also believe that there are lots of spirits, Satan and ghosts
wandering around after sunset. That is why many elders, including your grandparents, tell this
superstition to make sure their kids return home early. They scared the ghosts will possess their kids.
But when I grew up, I do not believe in those supernatural things anymore. I used and told you this
superstition just to make sure you returned home early and performed your prayer on time. I do not
think that many people believe in this superstition

Elapsed Time In The Classroom
The math lesson that my practicum partner and I performed in our classroom was a review of elapsed
time. The topic of our lesson was telling and writing time to the nearest minute and to solve word

is actually a relatively hard topic, especially at eight years old and having remembering it after
returning from spring break with pre PARCC anxiety. That being said, this review was beneficial for
the class. We began our lesson by facilitating a carpet discussion about the different strategies that
students prefer to figure out how much time has passed between events. I was very satisfied with how

sense of classroom community discourse that occurs with this specific class, their level of respect for
each other is incredible. Our lesson activity had the students rotating around the room and performing
different word problems for about 4 minutes at each station. I think the students liked that they were
able to move around. Also the amount of time we gave them was challenging and fun, without making
it too intense like a drill. When we went over the answers to the problems we had students come

method/strategy they did, which was good because some other students were able to observe and

The Presidential Election Of 1828
It s been proven that campaigns can get dirty and grimy. In the fight for voters, candidates will put on
some of the most outrageous acts to destroy each other. The respect for each other is nonexistent. With
mudslinging, it gives political candidates the opportunity to assassinate the other candidate s character,
dig up candidates unethical past history, and scrutinize their political views. Mudslinging and dirty
politics has not only been a fad of modern day campaigning, but is known to exist as early as the 1800
s presidential election. The elections most known for its dirty politics and mudslinging in the 1800 s
were the election of 1828 and the election of 1840. The election of 1828 is said to be the rematch of

By the time the presidency was revealed, there was more offensive mudslinging circulating around
about each candidate s character, past history, and political views than any other presidential election
ever. For example, Jackson s marriage to Rachel was so heavily scrutinized by Adams campaign, that
Jackson believed it was the cause of her death. When Jackson was married to his wife, Rachel, they
were under the assumption that she was divorced. However, her divorce from her previous marriage
was not yet finalized, in which it caused them to remarry once the legal papers were completed
(Boundless 15). Jackson was accused of committing adultery by Adams campaign and his wife was
even labeled as a whore. Andrew Jackson was known for his military background and the battles he
fought in, but even that were scrutinized by Adams campaign. The National Republican Party used
Jackson s allegations about the court martial of U.S. troops and ordering the execution of some
Soldiers who went absent without leave (AWOL). They also attacked Jackson for killing innocent
Indians and adapting a habit of dueling. The killing of the Soldiers was known as the Coffin Handbill ,
which they called General Andrew Jackson a murderer. John Adams was no saint to the supporters of
Andrew Jackson as they came prepared with their sleeves rolled up to fight back with their dirty
political tricks. The

The European Community s Involvement in the Energy Sector
The European Union s total expenditures on research and development have grown rapidly since the
mid 1980s. For example, in the period between the EU s First Framework Programme for Research
and Technological Development (spanning the period 1984 1987) and the Fourth Framework
Programme (1994 1998), R D investments under the Framework Programme grew in real terms by
more than 120%. The budget for the Fifth Framework Programme (1998 2002) is projected to be
approximately $15 billion. R D investments in the health, biotechnology, information technology, and
transportation areas have grown most markedly in recent years. Energy R D constitutes a major, yet
declining, share of the total R D expenditures of the European Union (EU). Adoption in 1996 of a
Directive for the Internal Market for Electricity: The Directive marks the first major legislative step
toward the creation of an open and competitive European electricity market. Under this law, all
Member States were required to open at least 25.37% of their electricity markets to competition as of
February 1999. Under the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, the European Union committed itself to an 8%
reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from 1990 levels by 2008 2012. Greenhouse gas emissions

  • 2. Differences Between Idealism and Realism Philosophers say the key to understanding human life is answering the really philosophical questions such as why are we here? Where did we come from? Where will we go? And so on and so forth. This has truly been a debate for the ages in philosophy, one that has stimulated thinkers, philosophers, theologists and scientists for thousands of years, hence led emergence of idealism and realism as two major traditional philosophical schools of thought in the realm of philosophy. So this paper projects the meaning of idealism and meaning of realism then discusses in detail the basic assumptions of idealism and those of realism and how these two traditional schools of thought differ and their implications within the educational setting. Meaning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We achieve greater and greater knowledge through proper study of the world. In Realism, a person is an empty vessel for knowledge which can only come from outside of the self, through observation. Aristotle is an exponent of realism. He asserts that matter has an objective reality and that matter is the underlying principle of all things. Philosophers like Herbert Spencer and John Locke postulated that matter is the ultimate reality. They say that things we experience with our senses such as hills, trees, animals, sand, water and man are simply not ideas in the mind of the observing individuals or even in the mind of an external observer. Rather they exist in themselves independent of the mind. Realism categorized in Religious realism, Aristotle Realism and Scientific realism Religious realism represented by Thomas Aquinas asserts that mind and matter form the composite. Man is a composite of body and soul. The spirit is more important and higher than the body. He argues that this is proved through revelation and reasoning. Seetharamu (1989) argues that Aristotle Realism was proposed by Aristotle who was Plato s student where by Aristotle believed that the world could be understood at a fundamental level through the detailed observation and cataloguing of phenomenon. • 3. Australia s Emergency Medical Services Like many countries, Australia s emergency medical services started out as just people transporting sick and injured patients to the hospital. This service evolved along with technology and time. In the 1960 s, the defibrillator made its way onto the ambulance, and the CPR technique was developed (Tintinalli, Cameron, Holliman, 2010). This new cardiac care soon spread all over the world and is perhaps the beginning of what we recognize now as emergency medical services. Soon ambulance personnel was required to learn more than just basic first aid. This personnel was responding to emergency calls and providing medical treatments as well as transportation to the hospital. The EMS service has continually evolved with new technology and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The paramedic will interpret the EKG and other vitals to make a determination of the appropriate intervention based on a set of predetermined criteria to reduce the pain and minimize the chance of the condition worsening. The emphasis for the paramedic is to treat the current symptoms and not concern themselves with the underlying issue as to why the patient may have developed chest pain. The website About.com defines clinician as Anyone who has patient care responsibilities. It usually means a physician, but there are other healthcare professionals who can also be considered clinicians, such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Unlike the paramedic that must operate under predetermined protocols, a clinician has the knowledge to use judgment to look at the factors that have influenced a patient s illness or injury. Instead of just giving nitro to treat the chest pain, the clinician has the duty to recommend a course of preventative measures such as diet, exercise, and perhaps prescribe a daily dose of aspirin. Currently, in Australia, paramedics are required to have a bachelor s degree to work as paramedics. This degree changes them from technicians to clinicians. This new requirement required a change in both education and culture. To change the culture, the importance of education had to occur within the field of paramedicine (Escott, 2016). To change the culture around the profession, respect for the job, knowledge, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. NFL Football Salary Cap Analysis The second and largest aspect of the White Settlement involves the salary cap. The cap represents a specific amount of money which can be spent on player salaries will be a defined percentage of the defined gross revenues (Mavris). This will create competitive balance across the league because it will force all teams to abide by the same cap ceiling. Regardless of a teams value or demographic all teams will have to spend the same amount on player salaries. The final aspect of the White Settlement creates the concept of franchise and transition tenders. It states that all players with five years of NFL playing experience whose contracts expire may negotiate and enter into contracts with NFL teams as an unrestricted free agent. The franchise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It also will drastically increase that player s salary. Franchises must be careful when applying the franchise tag as it can be expensive and with the creation of the salary cap they must abide by a certain total salary for all their players, and by placing the franchise tag on a certain player that player s salary will become very expensive and its fully guaranteed. The transition designation is very similar to the franchise designation. The White Settlement states, by tendering an offer of a one year contract at a salary amounting to the greater of (1) the average of the salaries of the ten highest paid players at the designated player s same position, or (2) a twenty percent increase in the designated player s previous years salary (Mavris). The team applying the designation would retain exclusive negotiating rights over that player, a key difference between a franchise and transition designation. The inclusive of the White Settlement changed the direction of the NFL and allowed players to increase their salaries, but also restricted large player movement from year to year. It also gave the team the ability to hold on to their top players and be compensated for losing restricted free agents. The White Settlement changed the landscape of the NFL has it moved forward into the 1990s and was instrumental in creating the salary cap that continues to govern the NFL ... • 5. How Does Satrapi Present Religion In Persepolis In Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi disproves preconceptions of Iranian culture through the use of illustrations in a graphic novel format. Originally written in French, Satrapi s graphic novel is set in Iran during the Iranian Revolution, and tells the story of Satrapi s childhood, through her childhood self, Marji. In the graphic novel Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi incorporates religious icons to suggest that a loss of individuality leads to the invalidity of preconceptions of Iranian oppression. Allusions towards God and Karl Marx are used to show opposing viewpoints that went through Marji s mind during the revolution, both sides of her persona are seen fighting for her full attention. Marji admired both figures, although their perspectives towards the relationship between religion and government are contradicting. Marji is reading a book before she goes to bed, entitled Dialectic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was funny to see how much Marx and God looked like each other (Satrapi, 13.3). Marji feels as though part of her identity lies within figures of both God and Karl Marx. In illustrating Marx and God to look nearly identical by giving them the same graphic weight, Satrapi brings her readers, who were once observers, into the story and Marji s life, forcing them to make a decision between the two, alongside Marji. Marji, is realizing that the two s beliefs are contrasting, and she must choose which of the two she admires more. God and Marx have such different standpoints. There is God, who is so invested in religion and fate, and then there is Marx, who once stated religion is a protest against real suffering. Marji s conflicts between Marx and God changes the way Iranians during the revolution were perceived. Following Satrapi s comparison of God and Marx, the narration states Despite everything, God came to see me from time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Community Paramedic Benefits The Economic Benefit of Community Paramedics Paramedics and EMTs alike work twenty four hours a day, every day of the year. These highly trained individuals respond to 9 1 1 calls all over the country keeping citizens safe from harm. Unfortunately this same service is abused by many individuals who tax the system and slow down response times. Recently, many state government officials began to propose community paramedic programs where patients can be evaluated and even treated at home depending on their nature of illness. Although the start off for these programs can be costly, the benefits outweigh the cost as community paramedics can benefit the health system by preventing illness and reducing the amount of emergency transfers to the hospital. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The training to become a community paramedic includes 114 didactic hours and 196 clinical hours (Emerging Health Professions). The economic cost of sending current paramedics through this extra training would be minimal and would provide an economic benefit to the community. These paramedics would increase access to primary and preventive care and decrease use of emergency departments, which in turn decreases health care costs (Emerging Health Professions). Most of the available treatments and interventions preformed at an emergency room are also done in ambulances (See Table 2). Table 2: Selected procedures at emergency department visits: United States, 2011 ( National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey ) The future of health care is community paramedics. The high demand for transportation to non emergency facilities and a high 9 1 1 misuse will ensure a successful future of the community programs. With high career growth in paramedicine, the healthcare field will continue to expand, allowing more communities to receive appropriate preventative and routine health ... Jamestown Pest Analysis Mounties comfortably ran down the clock in the last 10 minutes as Belrose frittered away the few chances they had left to earn a week off and send Belrose into a sudden death semi final with East Campbelltown this Sunday. Historically, Americans were treated with medicinal herbs and anecdotal information in their homes. Doctors were sole decision makers about admissions, length of stay, resource use, and referrals. The U.S health care system changed by having hospital fiscal penalties for lengths of stay, admissions require payer approval, and readmissions carry penalties. As well as, people are getting treated in hospitals, primary care office, and rehabs, instead of their homes. Having access to hospitals, and getting treated with these new drugs and new technologies, one would think that everyone would get the same kind of health care. However, gender and ethnic disparities contribute to many individuals having access to health care. Access to health is the determinant factor of the health disparities. In the United States disparities are well documented in minority populations such as African Americans, Native Americans, Asian Americans and Hispanics, all of which constitute twenty eight percent of the population (McHenry, G.). • 14. The Physiological Condition Of Caffeine Essay Introduction: Caffeine has become a staple in the majority of the adult population s normal routine but is the substance actually benefitting one s mental prowess? Memory is the brain s ability to catalog skills or experiences for future needs (Sherwood et al. 2005). There are two types of memory which are declarative (explicit) memory and procedural (implicit) memory; declarative memory deals with storage of information dealing with names or places, etc., while procedural memory deals with one s physiological processes such as walking or talking (Sherwood et al. 2005 ). The physiological condition responsible for the packing of new skills or information is referred to as memory trace, which has two types of storage, short term or long term memory. When a new fact or skill is introduced to someone, the first step is to be deposited into short term memory where it will either soon be discharged or kept within the brain s internal catalog (long term memory) through a process known as active practice; the more often a new skill or fact is processed, the more likely the information will be consolidated within long term memory (Sherwood et al. 2005). That information which is stored in long term memory also faces the possibility of loss due to the significance or use by the individual. Caffeine is an antagonistic molecule which is classified as a methyl xanthine (Sherwood et al. 2005). It is the most commonly taken stimulant which affects the central nervous system (Nehlig ... Today traffic on the internet requires that millions upon millions of records be stored and queried each second. Data must be highly available and quickly retrievable. These requirements put together have given rise to new forms of database technologies collectively called NoSQL or Not Only SQL . NoSQL eschews the strict guidelines that govern the creation and function of traditional relational databases. These guidelines are put aside in order to rise to the new demands of an increasingly interconnected world. NoSQL is able to address the massive traffic loads experienced by database servers at corporations that specialize in data processing like Google, Facebook and Amazon. NoSQL technologies can provide near constant availability, massive user concurrency and lightning fast responses. There are four primary NoSQL database implementation types being used today: document based, wide column (or columnar), key value and graph. The different properties of SQL and NoSQL databases will be examined and an overview of each NoSQL implementation type along with an example will be given. ACID v. BASE: Eventual consistency Standard SQL databases adhere to what are commonly called the ACID properties. This means that the database must be atomic, consistent, isolated and durable. Atomic means that each attribute cannot be broken into sub groups. Consistent means that the database displays only the latest data; there are no older versions of data present within the database unless by design. Isolated means that no transactions will interfere with one another; i.e. two concurrent users changing the same data in the database will not end with incorrect results; the transactions will be processed separately. Durable means that once changes have been made they will remain in place and not revert to their prior state (Pritchett, 2008). The ACID properties can be crucial to certain business models; financial transactions might require ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Self mutilation is characterized by autoagressive behaviors without intent to die, and is not uncommonly encountered in clinical practice, with an estimated prevalence of 4.3% in general psychiatric patients. The highest incidences of self mutilation have been reported in prisoners, institutionalized teenagers with antisocial traits, and among those diagnosed with autism, schizophrenia, intellectual disabilities, and traumatic brain injuries [1]. Major self mutilation is a rare, severe manifestation of deliberate self harm that results in perpetual loss of function or capacity of an organ and constitutes a medical/surgical and psychiatric emergency[2]. Notably the act of major self mutilation usually is associated with delusions or hallucinations [3].Auto emasculation, a subtype of major self mutilation, typically manifests in the context of schizophrenia[4] , and presents a significant management challenge for both medical/surgical and psychiatric providers, in part because of the lack of clinical guidelines for pharmacological management. Here, we describe a patient with schizoaffective disorder who presented with status post auto emasculation in context of severe psychosis. While penile reattachment was unsuccessful, the patient s psychotic symptoms responded well to clozapine, a third line antipsychotic medication that has been demonstrated to be effective for treatment of aggressive behaviors [5]. During the Civil Rights Movement, African Americans were fighting for equality. They didn t want separate but equal they wanted full equality for their people. This caused many riots throughout the US. When we look at riots we tend to think violence, although most riots were violent, not all were. One Civil Rights Movement leader imparticular, Martin Luther King Jr., was for peaceful riots. He wanted the people to hear what he had to say during his speeches, and to stop the violence. However, there was another Civil Rights Movement leader, Malcolm X, who was more about violence and hatred. Both activists were fighting for the same cause but were for different perspectives. One question that many might have is which view was most influential during the Civil Rights Movement? I believe that not only is nonviolence morally right, but also it helped African Americans get their point across, where as violence was unjust and helping neither the black or white population. Western cultures have used music for almost every aspect of life. Music was used for entertainment, religion, war cries and important ceremonies. Lizzie Borden had her parents murdered and most people believe she did it but was never accused of the murders. They both are unsolved cases that people still talk about today. Jack the Ripper was a serial killer in the United Kingdom in 1888. Why is Jack the Ripper so famous? He was essentially a media star. He is believed to only have 11 victims but, the media is what made him famous throughout England. All of his victims were alcoholics who turned to prostitution, says Thomas K. En la actualidad las intoxicaciones agudas son un problema social que implica aspectos diversos, económicos, demográficos, socioculturales y psicológicos. • 30. Elizabeth Bennet Individuality Pride and Prejudice, a novel by Jane Austen published in 1813. It is, to this day, universally loved and revered. A classic, one may say. This tells the story of the prejudice that occurred in the 19th century and the pride which kept lovers apart. The lovers in this story are Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. Elizabeth was a quick witted girl, but her wits took her to make quick judgments. Mr. Darcy was a man born into wealth, with a strong ego. They, however, put their differences behind them. The eighteenth century British novelist Laurence Sterne wrote, Nobody, but he who has felt it, can conceive what a plaguing thing it is to have a man s mind torn asunder by two projects of equal strength, both obstinately pulling in a contrary direction at the same time. This story proves this quote ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She wanted to be expressive and take a stance, but in her time and age, it was unrealistic. A struggle she faced, for example, was when Jane was ill at Netherfield Park. Elizabeth was torn between her sister, and being a proper lady. She didn t know whether to sit at home and wait, or run through the muddy fields to her sister. Elizabeth s mother was against her going through fields as she said, How can you be so silly, as to think of such a thing, in all this dirt! You will not be fit to be seen when you get there. (Austen 24) Her mother did not want her to go, because it would look very poorly on her behalf. Elizabeth however not caring about her reputation, was insistent on walking to Jane. Elizabeth did not want to conform to society, ever. So when Collins asks for Elizabeth s hand in marriage, she, among the pressure from her family, promptly refused. To Elizabeth, Collins was foolish and pompous, and she could stand to think to ever marry someone so humiliating. Even when Darcy proposes to her for the first time, she refuses. Her hasty judgments led her to think that he was an arrogant man who only cared for his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The term catapult came from the Greek word katapultos . A catapult was a large machine on wheels with a basket attached to a long wooden arm and a power source for hurling projectiles on the other. The first catapult however was invented around 400 BC in Greek town Syracuse. It was not the type seen so many times at our own wars in today s Society for Creative Anachronism. The first catapult closely resembled a crossbow. It was called the Gastraphete, and worked similar to a crossbow. The Gastraphete had to be pointed at the ground and the operator had to use great force to set the weapon to fire. The men would bring down the shorter end of the long beam or arm, causing the longer end of the arm to flip up, causing the basket to loose it s projectile towards the intended target. Some of these siege weapons were held by men and cause some difficulty in battle.Gravity powered catapults simply used gravity to hurl the projectile. At its most basic understanding, a gravity catapult is simply a lever that uses centrifugal force to its advantage. Think of it as a modified seesaw. When two people are on the seesaw and both are of close weight, the seesaw balances itself. If another person came up and jumped on one end of the seesaw with one of the people, the single person on the opposite end is likely to become airborne. Like the seesaw, a gravity powered catapult is also pivoted in the middle. A counter weight was built onto one end of the catapult and a basket or sling on the other. The projectile end was pulled down forcing the counterweighted end to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Example Of Superstition TEXT OF SUPERSTITION The superstition that I am going to tell you is a really common Malay s superstition that has been passed down to me since I was a kid. I think you are already familiar with it because I always said this to you when you were a kid, to make sure you returned home before sunset after spending hours playing with your friends. During Maghrib (after sunset), Muslim kids are not allowed to play outside their house, or a scary ghost will kidnap them . Your grandparents introduced this to me when I was about 6 years old. They told this superstition to me every time before I went out and play with my friends. People who live in villages are great believers in ghost and spirits. I was raised in a village setting, so I grew up hearing a lot of stories about ghosts, spirits and black magic. This superstition is related to ghosts, so it makes me scared, as I believe that there were really a ghost that trying to kidnap me if I return home after sunset. Malays also believe that there are lots of spirits, Satan and ghosts wandering around after sunset. That is why many elders, including your grandparents, tell this superstition to make sure their kids return home early. They scared the ghosts will possess their kids. But when I grew up, I do not believe in those supernatural things anymore. I used and told you this superstition just to make sure you returned home early and performed your prayer on time. I do not think that many people believe in this superstition ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Elapsed Time In The Classroom The math lesson that my practicum partner and I performed in our classroom was a review of elapsed time. The topic of our lesson was telling and writing time to the nearest minute and to solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes. The concept of elapsed time is actually a relatively hard topic, especially at eight years old and having remembering it after returning from spring break with pre PARCC anxiety. That being said, this review was beneficial for the class. We began our lesson by facilitating a carpet discussion about the different strategies that students prefer to figure out how much time has passed between events. I was very satisfied with how the discussion went, the class that I am placed in loves carpet discussion and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was happy with the pair sharing because the students can explain ideas in ways that I may have never considered, and their explanation may help other students understanding. In addition, there is a great sense of classroom community discourse that occurs with this specific class, their level of respect for each other is incredible. Our lesson activity had the students rotating around the room and performing different word problems for about 4 minutes at each station. I think the students liked that they were able to move around. Also the amount of time we gave them was challenging and fun, without making it too intense like a drill. When we went over the answers to the problems we had students come demonstrate how they got their answer on the whiteboard and discuss why they chose the method/strategy they did, which was good because some other students were able to observe and learn. My main regret from this lesson is having the activity answers discussed and displayed with students at their desks and not the carpet. With this specific group they are so much more engaged when they sit at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
