Personal Land Ethic Essay
I would describe my own personal land ethic simply with my personal definitions of both terms. My
personal definition of land is a substance in which animals and humans utilize by physically walking
on. My personal definition of ethics is something (idea or belief) someone holds close to their heart
and is willing to protect completely. When combining both personal definitions of land and ethic, I
define land ethic as viewing land with the utmost respect, feeling passionate and taking action toward
sustaining or benefiting the lands natural state. When comparing my definition of land ethic to Aldo
Leopold s definition, it is evident to see that we are both thinking similarly. When defining the land,
Leopold includes soils, waters, plants and

Franciscan Values Analysis
Out of all of Our Franciscan Values which include, reverence the unique dignity of each person,
encourage a trustful, prayerful community of learners, serve one another, society, and the Church,
foster peace and justice, and respect creation. Although it took me a good portion of the semester, I
believe that I fully recognize and understand the importance of these values as well as how they are
put into play every single day here at USF. The core/human values that I have put into action this
semester include serve one another, society, and the Church as well as reverence the unique dignity of
each person. While seem to correlate to each other as both can be carried out by someone at any given
time. Throughout my first semester here at USF, I believe that these two values are the easiest to be
put into play within our lives and fall hand in hand with one another. ... Show more content on

My time spent at Community Harvest included a Thursday and a Friday where my first day spent
there included packing bags full of food for senior citizens who would come to pick up their groceries
throughout the day. Furthermore, each bag contained the same groceries which made this task fairly
simple in comparison to my second day there. One my second day, I assisted those who were shopping
for their groceries. Furthermore, I filled out forms which indicated how many pounds of food each
person could take. My role was to keep track of 7 10 different shoppers at times while instructing
them to what items they could take and how many pounds of those items. Senior citizens as well as
those who are in an unfortunate situation benefitted from my actions due to the fact that I filled their
bags with groceries and helped instruct people on what groceries they were allowed to

The Education System Of South Africa
1. Introduction
In a rainbow nation filled with diversity, the education system is the one system that faces the most
problems implementing a change. Education is one of the most important elements in structuring the
new generation, and with the new South Africa comes new curriculums. The lingering question
though is: Have we improved the education system of South Africa? Is the new curriculum in the best
interest of the country and its future or in the best interest of those people in power in our country?
What challenges do educators face bringing on this transformation curriculum as a tool to form the
minds of young people?
In this paper we will be looking at the education system of the past vs. the future critically. We will
also be analyzing these two aspects of education by means of the Critical Theory.
2. Critical theory
Critical Theory as a method of inquiry is widely used when questioning power structures. The concern
with changing a system, may it be economic, social or political. Higgs and Smith (2015:67).
According to Higgs and Smith (2015:67), critical theory originates in the 1930 s through German
philosophy. The first people to get involved were mostly concerned with the problems of Nazism.
Critical theory, from the start, was not just concerned with trying to resist the Nazis, critical theory
believes that all power structures are dangerous and destructive. Critical theory believes that power
structures not only drive our economic and social life but

eBay should keep a close eye on threats to their company and do what they can to make them
opportunities for change.
Conclusion By implementing their business model, eBay employed three main tactics. First, they
looked to build strategic partnerships, such as PayPal and Half.com. Second, they looked for customer
feedback to constantly make changes and improvements. Finally, they monitored of their internal and
external environments for possible opportunities. By initiating all of these tactics, eBay is able to
adapt to the changing ways while keeping their customers satisfied. To be successful eBay must
continue to mold and change their business model to satisfy customers and keep the level of quality
they employ to the highest degree possible. If eBay is able to work these ideas into their everyday
business life, they will continue to be successful. Furthermore, eBay must continue to improve its
level of service, strengthen community trust and safety, increase system reliability, enhance website
features and functionality, and broaden the company s trading platform by growing existing product
categories and promoting new product categories in order to cope with competitive pressures and
maintain its existing customers and attract new ones. Finally, they can expand their market to the

Talia Pocket Watch
Talia open and closed the pocket watch. Opened, close, reopened, closed. The metal had grown warm
in her hands, and the clicking sound it made made had started to dull. The pastor continued to drone
on about her father. What a good man he was, and what a great loss it was to their community. She
smiled bitterly. Not many people had actually liked him. One could only describe her father as
guarded. She pulled the sleeves on her sweater back over her wrists and tried to tune in for a bit. She
eventually gave up and went back to opening and closing the pocket watch. It seemed that no one else
could hear it snapping shut. She shook her head. It wasn t like they were actually mourning, after

close to someone wasn t something that came easy to their father and therefore it didn t come easy to
them. They were learning, and they all did it together. That was what was important. Being together
through everything. She looked at the pocket watch again. Other than her and Aaron the watch had
been one of his only focuses. It wasn t really the watch just what it said. Time. He micromanaged
everything he could. Timed everything and normally kept to a strict schedule. The talking stopped and
Talia looked up. Everything was silent and no one had stuck around longer than they had to. Just like
her dad s office building. She stood up shakily and walked outside. Bright sunlight flashed in her eyes
and she squinted to see through it. It almost made her want to laugh. Even the weather didn t care that
her father had died. It almost seemed brighter, in fact. She continued fiddling with the pocket watch

What is Prejudice? * Everyone comes face to face with prejudice at some time or another. * Prejudice
is when we recognizethat we feel and act less positively towards others. * The roots of prejudice can
be found in the cognitive and emotional processes. * Prejudice may be perceived as acceptable and
justified * All inequality and differential treatment is not perceived and responded to in the same way.

* Stereotypic judgment will be stable as long as the nature of the inter group relationship that exists
between any two groups is stable * When values and categorization change, stakes in the present
status is altered. * Prejudice is an attitude, usually negative towards members of a social group based
on their membership * It is dependent on the perceived norms and acceptability of doing so *
Information that is consistent with prejudiced views often received closer attention and is remembered
more * Prejudice may reflect more specific underlying emotional responses to different out groups
including fear, guilt and disgust. * Discriminatory actions that follow maybe different * Prejudice
persist because disparaging others can protect our self esteem. * Threats to our group s interest can
motivate prejudice and competition can escalate conflicts * Holding prejudiced views of an out group
allows members to bolster their own group s image. * Prejudice stems from direct competition
between groups over scarce and valued resources such as land, jobs, housing etc. * As competition
escalates, members of opposing groups view each other in increasingly negative terms. * Competition
can escalate into full scale, emotion laden prejudice. * Prejudice is derived from our tendency to
divide world into us and them . Categorization may be based on race, religion, gender, age occupation.

IB Language Literature, Block B
Thriller Song Lyric interpretation script
Mrs. Codita
October 11th, 2014
My name is Ali Alansari, and the reason why I chose this song is because I always used to like this
song since I was a child and now I really want to know the real meanings towards this song. Michael
Jackson wrote thriller. This song was written in 1984, and zombies represent fears in the American
consciousness. Also in that time, there was the great recession, which included poor communities,
unemployment, AIDS crisis and racial polarization. The fact that this song was for terrorizing the
neighborhood, it allows the audience to imagine connections for social and political issues. In this
text, it is about Michael Jackson ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These techniques include using personification, visual imagery and the use of a anaphora. Firstly,
Jackson presents the audience personifications in this text. The personification in You try to scream
but terror takes the sound before you make it/ You try to freeze as horror looks you tight between the
eyes (Line 3/4) shows the non human characteristics of horror and terror. This relates to how
nightmares can be a part of reality which brings frightened feelings, because it shows how terror can
get the audience, and it confirms how it can be real since the girl is screaming but terror is getting her.
The diction of horror looks you tight between the eyes shows the audience the terrifying scenes how it
is really occurring, which bring the audience a feeling of fright. Also, the use of visual imagery plays a
big part in conveying the spooky images to the audience. There are various visual imageries in this
text. Jackson shows the audience how Night creatures call and the dead start to walk in their
masquerade/ There s no escapin the jaws of the alien this time (Line 19/20) visualizes the scary night
creatures walking to the girl and that she has no space to escape. This implies that Jackson is
frightening the girl by proving the horrific scenes. The diction of There s no escapin shows a casual
register to show the audience how this song is shown scary and casually. The theme of the reality of
having horrific scene is demonstrated by this visual imagery, putting an image to the audience s mind
the reality of what is happening to the girl. Finally, the use of anaphora in You hear the door slam and
realize there s nowhere left to run/ You feel the cold hand and wonder if you ll ever see the sun (Line
10/11) portrays how the girl is locked in horror and she has no freedom.

1. The Act stipulates that the Central Board of Directors of the State Bank of Pakistan
(SBP) shall secure monetary stability and the soundness of the financial system .
2. However, the Act currently has twin objectives: price stability and growth. It does not define
monetary stability with precision, although Sections9 (a) and (b) do set out monetary policy
formulation and objectives. These ambiguities have allowed the government to adopt different
monetary policy frameworks at different times. To improve transparency, the IMF has recommended
to the Pakistani authorities that the SBP Act be amended to define the term more clearly and to
establish a hierarchy of multiple objectives of monetary policy.
3. The SBP is currently working to amend the Act to reflect the bank s role in the foreign exchange
market, as well as to clarify monetary policy.
When monetary policy is made?
In February 1994, the SBP was granted full autonomy to regulate and supervise monetary and credit
mechanisms. Following 2006 a separate independent body of monetary policy and research
department was created.
The process of monetary policy formulation usually begins at the start of the fiscal year when SBP
sets a target of M2 growth in line with government s targets of inflation and growth (usually in the
month of May) and an estimation of money demand in the economy.
The basic idea:

Global market entry strategies are complex requiring consideration of many factors (Chen Mujtaba,

articles list numerous factors that influence firms decisions for selecting foreign market entry modes.
This essay will discuss the findings of two articles and highlight how the two articles relate to one

careful consideration for the contents and the overall coverage of the subject matter, the following two

2. Competitive posture is the second dimension. The competitive posture describes the firm s
competitive objectives as either defensive or offensive. The defensive posture prevents competitors
from making present or future inroads on its market share. The offensive posture is where the firm
seeks to grow at the competitors expense (Ayal Zif, 2001, p. 73)
3. The third and final dimension is Territorial location of major competitive arena. To understand this
dimension, the authors divided the world markets into three regions vis à vis any competitor assuming
that the firm s strengths are different from the competitors .
a. The firms home market
b. Neutral territories
c. Competitors home market (Ayal Zif, 2001, p. 75)
Within these dimensions the firm has to consider two major sets of inputs to process. They include an
assessment of company resources both absolute and relative to competition and a product/market
analysis to determine whether a strategy of concentration or diversification is indicated based on a list
of ten factors that is used to help the firm make a decision (Ayal Zif, 2001, p. 75) The ten

Marshall Mathers
Marshall Mathers, better known as Eminem, was born on October 17, 1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri to
a single mother. He spent the majority of his youth living in various states before eventually settling
down in the harsh streets of Detroit at the age of 12. At age nine, Em was first introduced to rap by his
Uncle Ronni who played the Breakin soundtrack for him and immediately Em loved it. He began
obsessively studying and lip synching LL Cool J s and Ice T s skilled and complex rhyme schemes
and styles. At a young age Em found his niche now all he had to do was discover his voice.

these honors, Rosenberg and Iovine were convinced that Em would be the future of rap. All they now
needed was confirmation, so they took Em s material to the legendary producer/rapper Dr. Dre.
Immediately, Dr. Dre loved Em s creative rhymes and lyrics. After Dre got over the initial shock of
that Em was white, they worked out a deal and Em joined Aftermath, Dre s record company. With Dre
by his side there was no looking back. They immediately hit it off and his first album on Aftermath,
The Slim Shady LP, hit stores in early 1999. With the multi platinum single, My Name Is , The Slim
Shady LP went triple platinum. This was the beginning of a new era in rap, a rap revolution started by
the high school dropout, Eminem.
A lab rat, Em went right back to work on his next album. His hunger for success was now at an all
time high. The Marshall Mathers LP blew up from day one and debuted number 1 on the Billboard
Charts selling close to two million copies in its first week. This established him as the most successful

14 Year Olds-Personal Narrative
One stormy dark night me and 3 of my friends were about to the unthinkable for a bunch of 14 year
olds. My friend Dave was wearing a black shirt with a black beanie black pants and a backpack filled

There was a reason for wearing all black. It s because their was no trespassing on the property so that
way if the cops came driving around near the house we could easily hide. We were about to step foot
on the most frightful house of all time.
We were gonna go into the old fowler house. It was supposedly haunted by one of the old fowler
residents. the house was over 100 years old so we had no problem believing that the house was
haunted. The house was hidden in the forest behind the dancing trees. As we approached the front door
of the house we immediately heard a loud thud coming from inside the house. My friends jumped as
we heard the loud noise.
I was the brave one out of the group. I turned the doorknob to the front door so we could enter. I could

Detective Fiction Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Essay
According to the English crime writer P.D. James (1920 ) for a book to be described as detective
fiction there must be a central mystery and one that by the end of the book is solved satisfactorily and
logically, not by good luck or intuition, but by intelligent deduction from clues honestly if deceptively
presented. (James. 2009: 16). This is traditionally conducted via a detective; a figure deployed within
the narrative structure whose occupation is to investigate crimes (Oxford. 2006: 202). Therefore
detective fiction represents an enigma, a puzzle to be solved through an intriguing series of events and
clues presented by the writer to its audience; that are taken on a journey through a process of

immense social and economic changes and the consequent movement of the population to the

Metropolitan Police Act was passed. (Mayor s Office. 2012). Over a decade later the Detective Police
Department was formed in London, England in (1842), enabling the rise, popularity and mass
publication of detective fiction as a genre. (Priestman. 2003: xi).
However, arguably and ostensibly the roots and traditional form of detective fiction as recognised in
contemporary society stem from the nineteenth century American author Edgar Allan Poe (1809 1849)
and his work The Murders in the Rue Morgue (1841). As argued by the twenty first century author and
professor of English; Martin Priestman the detective story was invented in 1841 by Edgar Allan Poe,
who acknowledged some debt to the structure as well as content of William Godwin s earlier novel
Caleb Williams (1794). In the 1860 s the form pioneered in Poe s short stories at last found a way into

Social Influence of Television Advertisement on Children a...
CHAPTER ONE 1. BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY Social influence is defined as a change in an
individual s thoughts, feelings, attitudes, or behaviors that results from interaction with another
individual or a group of people . Social influence is distinct from conformity, power, and authority.
French and Raven (1959) provided an early formalization of the concept of social influence in their
discussion of the bases of social power. For French and Raven, agents of change included not just
individuals and groups, but also norms and roles. They viewed social influence as the outcome of the
exertion of social power from one of five bases: reward power, coercive power, legitimate power,

mode of doing work outside the office that traditionally has been done in the office, as by computer
terminal in the employee s home. quot; Basically, it is working at home utilizing current technology,
such as computers, modems, and fax machines. Traditionally, people have commuted by cars, buses,

One can go to work simply by tossing on a robe and slippers, grabbing a cup of coffee and sitting
down to the terminal. You would no longer have to worry if the car will start, if your clothes are neat,
or if you re perfectly groomed.
That may still be important to you, but it no longer has to be. And you are no longer interrupted by the
idle chatter that inevitably takes place at the central work place some of it useful for your work, but a
lot of it is just a waste of time and a perpetual interruption. As quoted in Computerworld, one
telecommuter comments quot;I was feeling really cramped in our old office. I find I can get much
more done. It is much more quiet here at home. quot;
In addition, telecommuting reduces family related stress by allowing involvement with family and
flexibility in location of a remote worksite.
Working in the home offers people a greater opportunity to share quality time with family members, to
promote family values and develop stronger family ties and unity. Also, time saved through
telecommuting could be spent with family members constructively in ways that promote and foster
resolution of family problems. Since the actual location a telecommuter works from isn t relevant, the
person could actually move to another town. This would alleviate the stress caused when a spouse has
an opportunity to pursue his or her career in another town and must choose between a new opportunity

Analysis Of The Movie Miracle On Ice By Gavin O Conner
Every hockey player has heard the soundbite of Al Michaels shouting Do you believe in Miracles?
Yes! after the 1980 American team took down the international powerhouse of the Soviet Union.
During a time of uneasiness and frustration towards the current political climate, the young American
hockey team gave the public something to be proud about. A true miracle on ice gave the country a
strong presence within the hockey world. Going into the game against the Soviets in the semifinals of
the 1980 Olympic games, Herb Brooks gave one of the most inspirational speeches known to date.
This speech was portrayed word for word in the Disney film, Miracle, released in 2004 directed by
Gavin O Conner. Although Herb Brooks rhetoric sounds as if he is referencing the Cold War, that did
not seem to be the case. Herb s rhetoric seemed to be solely hockey driven: his significant playing and
coaching career as well as his astonishing dedication to the game uncover his motivation prior to the

Richard Joseph Daley, the grandson of Irish immigrants, was born in the Bridgeport area of Chicago
on May 15, 1902. He was graduated from De La Salle Institute in 1918 and worked in the stockyards
for several years before studying law. While studying, he worked as a clerk in the Cook County
Controller s office. In 1936 Daley married Eleanor Guilfoyle, and the couple had three daughters and
four sons. One son, Richard M. Daley, served in the Illinois Senate and as Cook County state s
attorney before being elected mayor of Chicago in 1989.
Daley held several elected posts before becoming mayor. He was state representative from 1936 to

A machine politician in the old tradition, Daley will use patronage to control the Illinois state vote and
obtain tax breaks and zoning law favors for real estate interests and others that support him.
Although Daley remained popular and influential during his several terms, his administration was
marred by a number of political scandals, by civil rights disturbances, and by a riot at the 1968
Democratic convention. Daley was among John F. Kennedy s key supporters in the 1960 presidential
election, providing him with the delegates who helped him win a first ballot nomination and a massive
Chicago vote that delivered Illinois for Kennedy in his narrow victory over Richard M. Nixon. Daley
hosted the 1968 Democratic National Convention at President Lyndon B. Johnson s request. Daley s
national reputation was seriously tarnished as the result of violence between anti Vietnam War
demonstrators and Chicago police. Ironically, Daley had been a private critic of the Victnam War and
had urged Johnson to withdraw U.S. forces. In 1972, Daley was dealt another blow when the
Democratic National Convention refused to seat his Illinois delegation because of noncompliance with
new selection rules. In 1976, Jimmy Carter said that Daley s endorsement clinched his first ballot
nomination for the presidency, but Daley failed to deliver Illinois for Carter in the election.

The Role Of Human Nature In American Culture
What does my culture tell me about human nature? Good question, but first, we need to establish,
what is human nature? I would say, human nature is what makes us unique, it is something captured at
birth, its instinctive, biological and something that differentiates us from every other species on earth.
The question then becomes, can our culture influence this natural state, or are we pre disposed as
human beings to be inherently different from one another based on origin of birth. I believe all human

Bicycle Thief Essay
The Bicycle Thief The Bicycle Thief is probably the best known and most highly praised of all the
Italian Neorealist films of its era. The films of the Neorealist movement were characterized by several
primary ideas. Instead of featuring stories focusing on glitz and glamour, Neorealist films focused on
the poor and the working class. Instead of building and fabricating complex sets to film on, they did
their filming on location. And instead of trying to get the most well known, highly paid celebrity
actors, they frequently used people that weren t even professional actors and had no training for their
starring roles. This all helped lend a sense of realism and weight to the stories. The Bicycle Thief takes

International And International Students At Universities
All over most college campuses there is a group of students that commonly get over looked; the
international students. International students make up a good majority of a lot of college campuses.
Statistics have shown that 1,000,000 international students are enrolled at universities in the United
States of America (Migration Policy Institute). I chose to observe a group of international students at
universities, because this is a topic that is of interest to me. Since international students are so
common at universities, they play a big part in our society. It does seem that possibly at times,
international students can get overlooked because at many universities they are in the minority. Even
though there are many differences between non international and international students, we all share
one purpose; to get an education at a university in the United States of America. If an international
student is at a university in America, in most cases you can assume they are there for a purpose. For
international students, they are in a complete different country than their family. Most students would
not do that, unless they have a purpose in doing it. Most international students come to the states to get
better quality education, so they can have a future with better opportunities. People s view on
international students, in most cases would completely depend on the person. It seems that most
people have some level of respect for them considering the sacrifices that they make

Jean Baptiste Carpeaux

The son and grandson of stonemasons, Jean Baptiste Carpeaux was born in 1827 in Valenciennes and
moved to Paris at the age of eleven. Beginning in the early 1840s he studied at the Petite Ecole, the
state school for training in the applied arts, formally called the Ecole Gratuite de Dessin, before
entering the Ecole des Beaux Arts in 1844, where he changed masters repeatedly, oscillating between
typical student ambition (optimal credentials for the Prix de Rome) and his interest in more liberal
approaches. Carpeaux moved from Ecole painter Abel de Pujol (1785 1861), to the independent
sculptor François Rude, and finally to the prestigious Ecole sculptor Francisque Joseph Duret (1804

He entered the imperial circle in 1864 as artistic tutor to the Prince Imperial, and executed the boy s
bust and full scale portrait statue for the prince s parents (both mid 1860s, marble; Musée d Orsay,

architectural decoration of the Pavillon de Flore of the Palais du Louvre (1863 1866, Imperial France
Enlightening the World and the Triumph of Flora); and The Dance (1865 1869) for the facade of the
Paris Opéra. His native Valenciennes commissioned several public projects between 1860 and 1884,
including a monument to another of its native artists, Antoine Watteau (1684 1721).
This extraordinary activity was interrupted by the upheavals after the fall of the Second Empire and by
Carpeaux s increasing frailty with cancer. He executed some smaller figures and portraits upon
commission and completed his monumental projects in Paris (1868 1874, Observatory Fountain,
Jardin du Luxembourg). He mainly focused on amassing income through commercial edition, hoping
to recoup his devastating financial losses from those projects and from the war. Estranged from his
family, Carpeaux spent the last two years of his life traveling, in the care of patrons, and in clinics. He
died in 1875.
An ambitious entrepreneur even as an Ecole student a flagrant violation of the academic policy
forbidding commerce Carpeaux produced serial works throughout his career.

The Great Chilean Earthquakes Origin
An earthquake is the shaking of the earth by seismic waves radiating away from the disturbance, most
commonly fault movement. The great Chilean earthquakes origin was of the coast of Chile at a
subduction zone, referred to as a hot spot for seismic activity.
A subduction zone is a region on the crust of the earth where two tectonics plate meet one another. The
area where the two plates meet is called a plate boundary. When two plates meet at a subduction zone,
they converge towards each other, and one these tectonic plates come into contact with each other, one

The Health Program Plan For Intervention Of Diabetes
The health education program is addressing the health topic diabetes. Mostly, diabetes is a health
condition that needs a life long self management that is substantial to the patient. Through having a
good intervention plan will lead to a better long term medical outcome. This will enable the patient to
lead a much healthy life.
Goals of intervention The program plan for intervention of diabetes will help to control the blood
sugar levels. According to Ulbricht (2009) with high levels of blood sugar the patient body does not
produce enough insulin. This is because the body has developed resistant to insulin. To normal
individuals the level of blood sugar ranges from 70 to 150. The second goal of the intervention ...

The purpose of treating diabetes is to help bring the blood sugar levels close to normal. Patients
should be aware of the fact that with high blood sugar levels it results to many health problems. Thus,
this objective will help patients to know how to control the levels of their blood sugar. Behavior
objective is essential to ensure that the patients are able to develop healthy behaviours to improve their
health. This is achieved through patients adopting a nutrition plan that will help them to control their
blood sugar level by eating the right food. According to Chazen (2004) diabetic patients should eat
foods that are rich in carbohydrates, proteins and fats with an appropriate amount. Through having a
healthy diet it will be the key to manage diabetes especially the blood sugar levels (Ulbricht, 2009).
This objective is essential to patients with both level 1 and 2 diabetes. Health status objective is also
essential in the program. This is achieved by patients checking their insulin levels in the body. This is
mostly used by patients with level 1 diabetes. Patients with level 1 diabetes are required to take insulin
and this will help to control levels of their blood sugar. High levels of insulin are experienced by
diabetic patients who produce hormone insulin amounts that are mot sufficient (Manthappa, 2008).
With high levels of insulin it can result to rise in the blood sugar levels which may lead to complicated
health problems.

The great majority of people lynched between 1882 and 1930 were black. During that period there
were almost 4800 recorded lynchings in the United States. There were many more, no doubt, but we
know about 4800. 3400 victims of this mob justice were black. The period from 1889 to 1893
accounted for the worst years. 579 blacks were lynched as opposed to 260 whites. That is a ration of
2.2 blacks lynched for every white. This is a significant difference already, but only part of the story.
By the end of the century the racial nature of lynching had revealed itself, completely and
unmistakably. Between 1899 and 1903, 543 people were lynched in the United States men and
women. Of that number only 27 were white. That is a ratio of 22 blacks lynched for every white.
The numbers make a compelling case, but they do not tell the entire story because by themselves they
reveal nothing of what lynching really involved. It was widely believed that lynching was spontaneous
thing sudden and emotional acts of revenge committed by irrational mobs. But we know now that
lynchings were often planned out in advance, and frequently with the sympathy and cooperation of
local leaders and law enforcement officials. In some cases lynchings were even advertised. Days
before they occurred men would move through neighborhoods and from town to town, distributing
flyers by hand and sometimes printing announcements in newspapers. Transportation might be

My time spent at Community Harvest included a Thursday and a Friday where my first day spent there included packing bags full of food for senior citizens who would come to pick up their groceries throughout the day. Furthermore, each bag contained the same groceries which made this task fairly simple in comparison to my second day there. One my second day, I assisted those who were shopping for their groceries. Michael Jackson Thriller Song Interpretation Ali Alansari IB Language Literature, Block B Thriller Song Lyric interpretation script Mrs. Codita October 11th, 2014 My name is Ali Alansari, and the reason why I chose this song is because I always used to like this song since I was a child and now I really want to know the real meanings towards this song. Michael Jackson wrote thriller. This song was written in 1984, and zombies represent fears in the American consciousness. Also in that time, there was the great recession, which included poor communities, unemployment, AIDS crisis and racial polarization. The fact that this song was for terrorizing the neighborhood, it allows the audience to imagine connections for social and political issues. In this text, it is about Michael Jackson ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These techniques include using personification, visual imagery and the use of a anaphora. Firstly, Jackson presents the audience personifications in this text. The personification in You try to scream but terror takes the sound before you make it/ You try to freeze as horror looks you tight between the eyes (Line 3/4) shows the non human characteristics of horror and terror. This relates to how nightmares can be a part of reality which brings frightened feelings, because it shows how terror can get the audience, and it confirms how it can be real since the girl is screaming but terror is getting her. The diction of horror looks you tight between the eyes shows the audience the terrifying scenes how it is really occurring, which bring the audience a feeling of fright. Also, the use of visual imagery plays a big part in conveying the spooky images to the audience. There are various visual imageries in this text. Jackson shows the audience how Night creatures call and the dead start to walk in their masquerade/ There s no escapin the jaws of the alien this time (Line 19/20) visualizes the scary night creatures walking to the girl and that she has no space to escape. This implies that Jackson is frightening the girl by proving the horrific scenes. The diction of There s no escapin shows a casual register to show the audience how this song is shown scary and casually. The theme of the reality of having horrific scene is demonstrated by this visual imagery, putting an image to the audience s mind the reality of what is happening to the girl. Finally, the use of anaphora in You hear the door slam and realize there s nowhere left to run/ You feel the cold hand and wonder if you ll ever see the sun (Line 10/11) portrays how the girl is locked in horror and she has no freedom. ... During a time of uneasiness and frustration towards the current political climate, the young American hockey team gave the public something to be proud about. A true miracle on ice gave the country a strong presence within the hockey world. Going into the game against the Soviets in the semifinals of the 1980 Olympic games, Herb Brooks gave one of the most inspirational speeches known to date. This speech was portrayed word for word in the Disney film, Miracle, released in 2004 directed by Gavin O Conner. Although Herb Brooks rhetoric sounds as if he is referencing the Cold War, that did not seem to be the case. Herb s rhetoric seemed to be solely hockey driven: his significant playing and coaching career as well as his astonishing dedication to the game uncover his motivation prior to the miracle game. Close analysis and research reveals Herb and his players have rejected many attempts of being used as a political pawn after defeating Russia in the miracle on ice. This victory indeed boosted the nation s spirits regarding the war, but the game had little to no impact on the outcome between the two governments. The films of the Neorealist movement were characterized by several primary ideas. Instead of building and fabricating complex sets to film on, they did their filming on location. International students make up a good majority of a lot of college campuses. Statistics have shown that 1,000,000 international students are enrolled at universities in the United States of America (Migration Policy Institute). I chose to observe a group of international students at universities, because this is a topic that is of interest to me. Since international students are so common at universities, they play a big part in our society. It does seem that possibly at times, international students can get overlooked because at many universities they are in the minority. Even though there are many differences between non international and international students, we all share one purpose; to get an education at a university in the United States of America. If an international student is at a university in America, in most cases you can assume they are there for a purpose. For international students, they are in a complete different country than their family. Most students would not do that, unless they have a purpose in doing it. Most international students come to the states to get better quality education, so they can have a future with better opportunities.
