Critical Analysis Of The Revlon Girl
Park Theatre's ninety seat theatre was the perfect venue for Neil Anthony Docking's The Revlon Girl, directed by Maxine Evans. While it would've
been performed as beautifully in a larger venue, the cozy theatre was perfect for an intimate atmosphere –– feeling as though the audience were
personally sharing a vulnerable moment with the grieving mothers at their meeting with the Revlon girl.
Surrounding the catastrophic coal tip event at Aberfan in Wales, theplay takes place eight months following the 1966 disaster that killed children in an
elementary school. Eight mothers meet every week at the Aberfan hotel to talk and laugh, but on this rainy Tuesday night, the mothers meet a
representative from Revlon, hired to give the women hair and makeup tips. Through a few makeovers, the women learn to share what's truly on their
minds and to not neglect oneself during painful times.
Five folding chairs, a makeup chair, the doorframe and black wall –– the only set pieces in the entire production. The story of these grieving mothers
outshone a large and complex set, which perhaps is the reason why Evans opted for a minimalistic and simple set. This was a brilliant decision, as the
audience had no choice but to pay attention to the details of the play. Not only that but every single piece of the set, with the exception of the black
wall and the door frame, was referred to. Nearly every chair was used by the women on stage, the table was used, and each of the women referred to the

The Beauty of Advertising
In a society where we are encouraged to purchase the top brands, the shiniest jewelry, and the best products on the market, companies have began to put
themselves out there. One of the main ways they have attempted to accomplish this is through advertising. Advertisements can be found virtually
anywhere ranging from the newspaper to TV commercials to billboards... The possibilities are endless. Competition in the advertising world is fierce
as corporations do their best to persuade their audience to buy their product, convince consumers that their product is the best, and overall come out on
top. One of the most effective advertising tools in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only is she a model for Revlon, she is an actress, producer and director. Starring in movies like Tron, Cowboys & Aliens, and People Like Us,
as well as popular television shows such as House, Wilde appeals to those who might not even buy Revlon's products. This alone is a powerful tactic
in persuading viewers of the ad to buy the product. "Celebrity branding," as Wilson Dzisah labels it in the European Journal of Business and
Management, "is the use of famous athletes, movie stars, music icons and television stars in promoting or advertising of goods and services" (Dzisah
200). He claims one of the main reasons that celebrity branding is so convincing to the average consumer is, "Celebrities are generally attractive, which
helps persuasion when the product is attractive related" (Dzisah 201). Generally, a makeup company such as Revlon will hire an actress that is
associated as attractive and that some might even recognize. If their products continue to sell, businesses will continue hiring their models. Dzisah
continues saying, "Advertisers recognize the value of using celebrities, and think; they draw attention to advertising messages in a much cluttered
media environment," (Dzisah 201) meaning that celebrities used in advertising contribute to gaining attention to a product.
Aside from using celebrity branding, Revlon also puts all of the focus on the lipstick color. By blurring the background, it draws complete focus to

Capital Budgeting Techniques| |
GLOSSARY
Capital Budget: (1) The amount of money set aside for the purchase of fixed assets (e.g., equipment, buildings, etc.). Also, (2) a request for
authorization to purchase new fixed assets.
Mutually Exclusive Proposals: Consideration of two or more assets that perform the same function. If one is chosen for purchase, the others are
automatically rejected.
Profitability Index: A ratio of the present value of the benefits (PVB) to the present value of the costs (PVC). The index is used instead ofNet Present
Value(i.e., PVB – PVC) when evaluating mutually exclusive proposals that have different costs.
As the picture above illustrates, the capital budgeting decision may be thought of as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here are our decision rules: If the NPV is:| Benefits vs. Costs| Should we expect to earn at least our minimum rate of return?| Accept the investment? |
Positive| Benefits > Costs| Yes, more than| Accept| Zero| Benefits = Costs| Exactly equal to| Indifferent| Negative| Benefits < Costs| No, less than|
Reject|
Remember that we said above that the purpose of the capital budgeting analysis is to see if the project 's benefits are large enough to repay the
company for (1) the asset 's cost, (2) the cost of financing the project, and (3) a rate of return that adequately compensates the company for the risk
found in the cash flow estimates.
Therefore, if the NPV is: * positive, the benefits are more than large enough to repay the company for (1) the asset 's cost, (2) the cost of financing
the project, and (3) a rate of return that adequately compensates the company for the risk found in the cash flow estimates. * zero, the benefits are
barely enough to cover all three but you are at breakeven – no profit and no loss, and therefore you would be indifferent about accepting the project. *
negative, the benefits are not large enough to cover all three, and therefore the project should be rejected.
3. Internal Rate of Return
The Internal Rate of Return (IRR) is the rate of return that an investor can expect to earn on the investment. Technically, it

Fred Slack: The Invention Of Acrylic Nails
One day we'll Fred was at work he broke his fingernail. Fred Slack is the person that invented the acrylic nail. To gain appreciation for acrylic nails,
one will have to understand who invented them, how it all got started, and how they are made. After they perfected them Tom and Fred made
different types to make them more interesting. When Fred broke his fingernail at work, he realized that he needed a nail to do his work. That's
when he decided to make his own nail. Mark Zorn said "Having fabulous nails has long been a desire of many women over the decades. The only
problem was that women had to grow out their nails in order to accommodate the incredible looks that were desired and this could take a lot of
time. An accidental break and you'd have to start all over! The story of acrylic nails because not with a beauty specialist, but with a dentist named
Fred Slack, Jr. He broke a fingernail while at work and created a temporary replacement for it that looked quite real." His brother Tom, and him made

application of an enhancement can lead to Pseudomonas (bacteria that produces a green pigment, hence the term 'greenies') to grow in the space

Make Up History
Makeup has been around for at least 6000 years and some may even say 100000 years, but it all has evolved to what it is today. Women use makeup to
enhance their natural beauty, but how they express themselves to the public has changed constantly.
Makeup was first originated from Egypt. The ancient Egyptians used copper and lead ore to create the world's first cosmetics, as early 40000 – 10000
BCE. They lined their eye with kohl, a substance made of soot, metal, and fat. It was thought that kohl helped to prevent the eyes from blindness. Red or
orange lipstick was worn to symbolize status – both men and women in the upper class wore it. They also used scented oils and ointments to clean and
soften their skin and mask body odor. And also oils and creams were used for protection against the hot Egyptian sun and dry winds.
During the 3000 BCE, Chinese people stained their fingernails with gum arabic, gelatin, beeswax, and egg. And with these fingernail stains created
different colors which represented different social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wearing a full face of makeup was still seen as a sin, but natural tones gave a healthy, pink–cheek look. Before 1914, many woman were creating their
own versions of mascara at home, by adding hot beads of black wax to the tips of their eye lashes. By 1914, T.L. Williams created the first modern
commercial mascara formulate. It contained of petroleum jelly and carbon soot. The mascara was called Mabel, and now is known as Maybelline.
Around 1920s, the first pressed powders were introduced, which included a mirror and a puff for touchups. A pressed powder blush followed after.
Revlon was founded Charles and Joseph Revson, nail polish distributors, and Charles Lackman, a nail polish supplier in 1932. Revlon is a brand that
sells nail polish in a wide variety of colors and still is here today. It can be found in any drugstore and maybe makeup stores. Revlon later enter the

Greek History: Who Invented Makeup
Who Invented Makeup
The history of makeup is a long one, dating all the way back to the ancient Egyptians. They used natural materials like kohl and berries to add color
to their faces. Egyptian women even used a moisturizing substance called unguent on their faces to keep wrinkles away. In Roman times, women
used kohl on their eyes and chalk to impart a whiter complexion. Cheeks and lips were given a rosy glow with rouge made from fruit juices. Makeup
in olden days was quite dangerous, however. White lead was often worn to achieve an aristocratic pale appearance. In the sixth century, women would
even bleed themselves until their skin was pale enough.
In the Renaissance period of Italian history, face powder made from arsenic was commonly

For the past few years, Microsoft Corporation, the software behemoth located in Redmond Washington, has been looking to acquire Yahoo!, Inc. While
Microsoft Corp. has numerous reasons to be interested in acquiring Yahoo!, there are few options available for Yahoo! Inc. Like Google's purchase of
Double–Click in 2007, Microsoft sees Yahoo! as a way to extract internet advertising revenue. Further, Microsoft has for years sought to build a
winning portal that could dominate the search engine market, currently dominated by Google. MSN was Microsoft's version of AOL. Even after
years of Research &Development in this area, Microsoft still only has 19% of the internet search engine market (and that's because of ISP bundling

Beyond the search engine market, there also is that "innovation" nirvana for which Microsoft is always searching. It wasn't Hotmail, it wasn't MSN

I Have Always Had A Love For Dark Eyeliners
I have always had a love for dark eyeliners. For me the accentuate my eyes, and make them look bigger, while enhancing the green color of my
eyes. I had been for quite some time using an eyeliner jug, which I loved, but at the same time, hated how long it took to apply the liner. These
days I 'm more about fast, simple, and effective. When I came across Revlon Bedroom Eyes Powder Liner, Fishnet Jet 660, at my local Rite Aide, I
was immediately intrigued. A liner that goes on in a powdered form, yet is applied in the same manner that a wet liner would be applied. Revlon
Bedroom Eyes Powder Liner, Fishnet Jet 660, comes in what appears to be a liquid eyeliner type container. At the bottom there is a small pot, where
a screw on cap reveals the actual application wand. I seriously had no idea what to expect, and the in store advertisement was vague, and showed bland
color results on the color menu which was located right below the rack of liners. I went with Fishnet Jet, because on the advertising it appeared to
be the darkest color; yet it also looked as if it had some sort of navy tint going on. The word NEW stood out, and I couldn 't resist it. I went ahead
and made the purchase. I hoped it worked well, because honestly $9.95 for such a small container is a bit much in my opinion. My Use: When I first
opened up the package, I unscrewed the top and found that the application wand had a large sponge applicator at the end. A lot larger than what I was
expecting. I usually

Essay On Nail Polish
Nail Polish Industry Analysis
Introduction and Background
The US nail polish industry has a total revenue of $1.1 billion and a profit of $118.4 million in 2012, with an annual growth of 2.3% in 2007–2012
and a projected annual growth of 3.3% from 2012–2017 (Panteva). The nail polish industry is able to survive the recession because they are sold at
low prices, starting at a retail price of lower than $5 to $10 for professional grade nail polishes at drugstores (Panteva). Unlike other consumer goods,
consumers are not as inclined to limit their purchase of nail polish, due to low prices.

Nail polish manufacturers experience moderate indirect competition from acrylic nails, artificial nails and nail extensions, which imitates the effects
of nail polish without applying any nail polish (Barbalova). However, there is a surge in demand of acrylic nails and could lead to a decrease in
demand for nail polish.
The nail polish industry has moderate barriers to entry. Coty and Revlon dominate 63.6% of the market and both corporations compete in the global
market (Panteva). As a global corporation Coty and Revlon highly benefits from economies of scale, which allowed them to acquire several smaller
firms. In addition, both firms have existing marketing and promotional activities and the public recognized the acquired firms. The manufacturing
process of nail polishes requires a high level of capital and is extremely technical. The industry is also facing increased regulations from the Food and
Drug Administration (FDA), Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (Sole
–Smith). The chief concern from
the regulatory agencies is protecting consumers from harmful substances in nail polishes. A recent investigation by the California Department of Toxic
Substances Control discovered that 80% of nail polish tested contains harmful substances that is linked to birth defects and asthma (Sole–Smith). As a
result, the industry is facing increased scrutiny from the government. For new firms to survive in the industry,

Internal Marketing of an Organization
1. Internal marketing is focused inward on the organization, used to motivate all functions within the company towards an objective (No author, 2012).
In this situation, Revlon management needs to make the case for increasing its focus on sustainable or green cosmetics. The initiative will require the
company to divert some resources from existing operations, so the internal marketing will need to focus on justifying that. The internal marketing effort
will need to shift the company's philosophies, which to this point have not focused on green initiatives. For Revlon, this is the first step in "greening"
the company. Senior management buy–in is essential here, and the initial communications must come from them. There needs to be constant
reinforcement and because this is an internal marketing program the company also needs to provide some justification in the form of market
information. If the company is in a state of crisis, that will also help, because crisis usually creates motivation for change.
2. There are significant opportunities in marketing greener cosmetics. Reliable figures are difficult to find, but one report showed that the natural
cosmetics industry is worth $6.9 billion and is growing (McHugh, 2010). To the extent that number can be taken seriously, the implication is that there
is a lot of money on the table for green cosmetics both in Europe and in North America. Major competitor L'Oreal owns the Body Shop and Shiseido

The Techniques of Advertising Essay
The Techniques of Advertising
Advertisings are created to make us buy things. All the companies want to sell their products, because they want to make profit. When a company
knows that a product that it manufactures is not very good they do not share that with their customers. On the contrary, they make a very impressive
advertising for the product, because all they want is to sell it. Everyone knows that advertising a product is not really done because the product is just
wonderful and everyone should know about it. Companies sure do care about their customers and they want these customers to come back and buy
more. They care about that because they want to make profit, not because they want their customers' hair to be dandruff free, ... Show more content on

They say:" better ingredients, better pizza, papa John's." First of all I don't understand what they meant by saying "better". Better than what? I
assume that it is better than the pizza that I eat now. How do they know it is better? Different people like different types of pizza; some people
even like it when it is homemade. I love the pizza that my grandmother prepares more than any other type of pizza I have ever tasted. She has a little
garden outside her house and she plants peppers and some tomatoes there. No one can ever convince me that they have "better ingredients" and
"better pizza" than my grandmother's. In this case again if we do not pay attention to all these facts and one day we feel the most severe hunger, the
line pops up in our head "Better ingredients, better pizza, Papa John's". We put our shoes on and run to the nearest Papa John's restaurant because the
company's advertisers have made us believe that they sell the best pizza.
Another technique that advertisers use is the presence of role models. You see a person like Lebron James advertising the soft drink Sprite. You may
start thinking that since he is such a good basketball player and he drinks Sprite then if you start drinking it may be you will look like him at least a
little. You look at Halle Berry advertising Revlon make–up. She says to you:" Only Revlon makes it, only you make it unforgettable." Even if Revlon

Lutz's Essay 'With These Words I Can Sell You Anything'
"Is Not a Kiss the Very Photograph of Love?" In his essay, "With These Words I Can Sell You Anything," William Lutz talks about advertisers uses
"weasel" words, and uses pictures or images to convince consumers in buying the product. In today's advertisement, advertising company mostly
uses celebrities as an endorser. Emma Stone has been a great endorser of Revlon for the couple of years. Emma Stone has fresh and natural beauty
to be a perfect model for this product. Her 2015 Revlon cover is selling the newest "Ultra HD Lipstick" that comes in "20 high definition shades to
love" (ad). Emma stone is portraying a very sophisticated look, and fine hydrant red lips. Her lips are red, everything on the advertisement are
almost red, and the "Revlon" logo is dauntlessly red. She is wearing a white top that is perfect for the background. Her hair is blond, and her makeup
are elegant looking. The design of the advertisement is flawless. Out of the 20 shades, the red is defining the brand. Red is very outstanding, and is
sure to gain buyers attention. Revlon's advertisement contains weasel words to make a claim for their products; the ad is misleading by claiming that
their lipstick is wax–free gel technology, and the ad uses celebrity as the endorser to redirect consumer's... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consumers would rush to buy the product if they see that their favorite celebrity is wearing or using the product. The image in the advertisement is
very attractive that it is hard for the consumers not to be tempted. As Lutz points out, "When you see ads on television, always ask yourself what the
ad is really saying, don't be misled by the pictures, and the visual images" (34). Emma stone is an image of a true beauty. Her background is
impressive, and she is an aspiring woman. Usually, consumers will buy the product even if they do not like it, considering that their favorite celebrity

The Revlon Beauty Company Is A Global And Classic Brand Essay
The Revlon Beauty Company is a global and classic brand. An advertisement found in Glamour Magazine, promotes the sales of Revlon's well–known
nail polish enamel. The ad features a man with a woman's hands draped over him to promote new nail polish colors. Revlon attempts to convince
readers to purchase beauty products, including nail polish, through the use of colorful imagery, diction, and appeals to pathos and ethos; overall the ad
is fairly effective at convincing the target audience of women ages 18–40.
In order to capture our attention, the company first creates an appealing visual to draw us in. In the Revlon advertisement, the face of an attractive
Argentinian male dominates the page. He holds a seductive pose, staring directly at the viewer while simultaneously winking; this creates a feeling of
intimacy with the viewer. A whitewoman's hands are then carefully placed in his hair and his mouth; she is playfully touching him while he gently
bites her finger. The use of a white female and Argentinian male conveys the idea that women find men of "color" more attractive and masculine. The
woman is hidden in the image, consumed by a black background. This gives us the freedom to imagine her as anyone, including ourselves. If we buy
this product and use it, we will attract the attention of men and be more flirtatious. Her nails are then strategically painted a bright pastel green and she
is wearing an enormous flashy ring to highlight the nail polish as well as bring

Oily Skin Foundation
So, now, let's get to the important stuff: Which are the best foundations for oily skin on the market? Through a lot of trial and error, I have found five
foundations which actually satisfy the needs of oily skin, so I will summarize my reviews in this article. Please not that not all oily skins are the same
– that's exactly what makes the process of choosing perfect foundation so difficult. Being a professional makeup artist, I have found that different
clients with oily skin need different foundation, which is why I made a useful comparison that will help you make the right decision.
Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + Matifying Foundation
This foundation works perfectly for my skin. It does have a mattifying effect, but it still gives the skin a nice healthy velvety appearance that looks
(well, almost) natural. Although it is quite pigmented and provides higher coverage, it doesn't give the effect of a mask face. The staying power is
extremely satisfying, but I tend to set it with the Urban Decay spray when the weather is hot.
The best thing about this foundation is that it's water resistant, which means that I can even wear it to the beach without being afraid of any accidents.
This product doesn't have an overly–drying effect, but it still needs a moisturizer under it because otherwise it will form dry patches. If you tend to get

I use this foundation on clients who have really problematic skin that would look even worse with other makeup products. It literally covers
everything, from vitiligo to acne, acne scarring, unevenness and large pores. The only downside to this product is that it does clog the pores, but it is
practically necessary to use on special occasions for people with such problematic skin. If you are afraid of looking cakey, that won't happen with this

Revlon Case Study
Revlon's products in the lipstick range have been priced lower than other competitors. Over the five–year period between 2011 & 2015, its retail price
remains the least and has not experienced a significant increase. In the same period, leaders in the industry have increased their retail price of the
product a little more significantly. If the brand aims to capture more market share and sustain its business, there is a need to understand preferences of
its competitor's customers to understand what it lacks.
It can also identify trends in customer loyalty and its strengths, which it can build on in the future. There is no such thing as a growth industry, but the
company's strength can lie in the fact that its core leadership is not matched or challenged. The company needs to think and expand by challenging
itself more than other player's challenge, as it is its competitor first and last. If it has to better its market position in the existing product, then it has to
challenge itself first. (Levitt, 1975, 2000). Such challenge can be achieved through guerrilla strategies where it is not complacent with its growth or
current position and decides to invest resources in improving customer satisfaction, quality, and productivity. The result is the use of additional
resources for future development.
Revlon can be categorized in the guerrilla square in the strategic square for marketing. This means that it is neither in the offensive nor defensive
position relating to other brands

Covergirl Vs Revlon Essay
The makeup brands, CoverGirl and Revlon produce a commercial that introduces the audience to their latest foundations. Foundation is a skin colored
makeup that the user applies to their face to create an even, uniform color to their complexion and to cover facial flaws. The CoverGirl commercial
includes Taylor Swift, a famous singer–songwriter wearing the foundation and she promotes the newly formulated version of the foundation. The
Revlon advertisement involves Emma Stone, a well–known actress advocating a brand–new, lightweight foundation by discussing her flaws and
demonstrating how the foundation conceals her imperfections. The commercials effectively use pathos, ethos, and logos to convince the viewers into
purchasing their new foundations.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The CoverGirl commercial conveys the feeling of confidence by presenting bright colors, joyful music, and smooth, elegant movements of Taylor Swift.
She dances swiftly around the studio room to jubilant, up–tempo music in a light material such as silk to emphasize the lightweight and natural aspect
of the foundation. The commercial reveals how comfortable and confident Taylor Swift is in her skin by providing before, after and close–ups shots of
her skin with and without the foundation. In the Revlon commercial, Emma Stone says that every girl has secrets and flaws and they should not fear
having secrets or try to cover up their flaws, instead they should feel confident and comfortable in their own skin. For instance, she reveals one of her
secrets by saying that her makeup secretly boosts her confidence and makes her feel like she is barely wearing makeup. In contrast, the Revlon
commercial creates a connection between the viewer and the actress by explaining flaws and demonstrating how the product looks in natural lighting
while the CoverGirl commercial simply demonstrates the actress wearing the makeup with aspects that is visually appealing to the viewers. Both
advertisements encourage their viewers to feel confident while wearing the foundation that gives off a lightweight and natural look to the

Motivation Statement For Mac Cosmetics
Cosmetics are products that are used by almost every woman on planet Earth. The reasons that drive women to purchase these products are vast and
intriguing. Whether it's the nifty adverts that the cosmetic industry utilise or if it is just the brand name, we will remain wondering unless this topic is
researched.

Revlon, The Cosmetics Industry For The Modern World
Introduction Revlon, Inc. was founded by Charles Revson in 1932, changing the cosmetics industry for the modern world. The company initially
popularized matching nail polish and lipstick colors but quickly expanded its focus. Today, Revlon operates in three market segments: consumer,
professional, and other. The company is known for its beauty products, including not only nail polish and cosmetics, but also haircare, skincare, and
men 's grooming products. With a global presence in 130 countries, Revlon has created strong brand recognition with its consumer base. Its products are
of high quality and heavily marketed and sold in large retail stores, chain drug stores, and department store locations. The company now has a broad
range of marketing strategies including digital, television, and educational seminars. Furthermore, its strong focus on R&D has made Revlon an
industry leader in development of innovative cosmetics and beauty products. Although Revlon has been successful in becoming a major market player,
it has powerful competitors such as Proctor & Gamble, Estee Lauder, and Elizabeth Arden within the cosmetics industry. Some of these competitors
have stronger innovation frameworks and more extensive access to capital. The sustainability of Revlon's growth may be questionable since much of it
can be attributed to its acquisitions rather than internal developments–most recently a professional cosmetics business. In addition, consumer loyalty is

Revlon: The go to product
In Seventeen magazine from August 2015, there is a Revlon ad that shows a picture of famous actress Emma Stone with a mirror like background.
Overall, the advertisement uses the actress and the romance theme to their advantage on selling the product. On the left side of the advertisement Stone
is wearing a bright, bold, and beautiful red ultra high definition, or HD lipstick. One thing that is very noticeable in the advertisement is Stone's lips,
they are bigger more plump lips they are even more than the average person which ultimately enhances the overall look of the product. Also, Stone has
some bright green eyes and light fair skin that coincide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The romance theme is brought out by the wide use of the color red. In the Revlon advertisement the color red is used more than 15 times, red is used
from the red heart drawn on the mirror to all the way to the red bold words that say "Romance is on" and "Love is on". Since Revlon went and chose
the color red it just reinsured the viewer that the main focus is the Romance theme, any time red is shown its showing viewers that it is a very
important part of the advertisement. Overall, the viewers will come to the understanding that red and romance go hand in hand on making this
advertisement work.
Revlon is a product universally known and a valued company. Revlon usually choices to use a popular actress to advertise and to persuade the
viewers into buying revlon products. The Revlon ad makes Stone look remarkable. The main reason behind choosing her was so the viewers could
see that she is pretty is and so it would get them to thinking if they use the revlon product it make them look as pretty as she does.
Overall, the Revlon advertisement was well done, it uses the romance theme, ethos, and pathos to persuade viewers to buy Revlon Ultra HD lipstick

Olivia Wilde Chooses Love
The purpose of this analysis is to conduct a comparative analysis of two television commercials by examining their techniques and the use of
rhetorical devices to appeal to their target audience. In the first video, "Olivia Wilde Chooses Love" by Revlon uses their product as something to
give their audience a boost of confidence. Produced in 2016, the commercial provides a scenario where love is presented as an active choice that
women take control. However, in the second video "Beauty on Your Own Terms" by Dove uses a variety of women from different backgrounds,
ethnicities, ages, and appearances to express their opinion of how people should not judge anyone for being themselves. Although both advertisements

This happens to make their audience feel confident in challenging the idea that society has created for women, not because of their gender but how they
are. However, the credibility used in the advertisement "Olivia Wilde Chooses Love" was not as effective compared to "Beauty on Your Terms" since
it only gave focus to one actress not multiple. For instance, it only gave their viewers to feel confident with the use of their product, but not enough for
them to feel confident in their skin. However, both shared the same purpose of giving their audience, especially women, to challenge themselves and
overcome the obstacles they may face. Although Dove took in consideration of fulfilling their purpose of defining the term of empowerment and gave
different perspectives to support their position. Furthermore, "Beauty on Your Terms" is considered appropriate for its purpose since it attempted to
connect with its viewers and gave them an insight that others may share the same problems they may be experiencing as well. On the other hand,
Revlon may not have used multiple women to support their purpose, but they still attempted to give the same impact with one main character to show
how a woman can make the first move in starting a conversation with a

1. Rivalry Among Competing Firms: Rivalry is intense among the competition in the cosmetic and skin care industry. There are numerous existing
cosmetic companies competing in the market. The giant corporations acquire numerous brand name products and compete for the same number of

Colgate Vs Colgate
The Procter & Gamble Company is in the same SIC as Colgate, they are considered big competitors. The Procter & Gamble company once very
heavily advertises, putting about $7.2 billion into it. This year they have reduced it by $2 billion. The company says they put a large amount of
money into media, but also another large amount into agencies. Their products are globally known and are sold in a variety of stores like grocery
stores, drug stores, etc. The Procter & Gamble company also plan to keep growing and making a mark in the pharmacies and perfumeries. Revlon Inc.
advertises mainly through TV, print, digital ads, and displays in stores. A huge way for make
–up companies to catch the eye of some make–up gurus is
using someone that is well known, for example a model, singer, or actress. A singer that they have used as an ambassador for their product is Gwen
Stefani, just like Colgate made a partnership with Cole Whitt. The amount of funding Revlon puts into their advertising is growing from year to year
and has reached up to $383 million dollars, which is quite a substantial amount less than Colgate uses. Walmart is the largest customer in the cosmetic
industry, it made up roughly 16% of Revlon's sales in 2014. Johnson & Johnson has many products that benefit newborn babies all the way up to
people with extreme illnesses which means they have to advertise for many diverse products. For advertising, Johnson & Johnson uses the techniques

In society it seems that everywhere we look we are surrounded by advertisements whether it is television commercials, billboards or advertisements.
Obviously, the main purpose of advertisements is to get the consumer to purchase the product. Print advertisements are an extremely effective way to
reach a mass audience because the advertisements are in print, the use of color, text and photography are all key factors in luring the consumers in to
buying their product. Advertisements cannot simply attempt to sell the product in question; they must make it appeal to the consumer. It is important
that advertisements not only attempt to make the product they are trying to sell clear but also to actually make the advertisement mean something ...

Although the colors really help, keywords also have a great toll in selling a product. By putting "REV UP THE VOLUME" in big letter it draws
your attention. It draws people in that want more volume for their eyelashes. All caps draws your attention and makes you want to read every word
on the ad. By putting that if you use the product you will have denser more numerous lashes in 30 days it make consumers want to buy this product
and actually see if the product will work. Last but not least is the layout of this ad. Layout really helps make an advertisement. By making the model
take up most of the page, your attention goes directly to her. Even without knowing what the ad is about; if you just look at her you can automatically
tell it is a mascara ad by her eyelashes. By putting the words around the model you can read them and after every word you read about it helping your
eye lashes you can't help but look back at her eye lashes. The brush of the mascara is out of the bottle so the consumer can see what the brush looks
like and how it will form their lashes.
The second ad is also found in the Lucky magazine, which means it also mostly targets young teens and women. The mascara in this particular ad is

In watching this video, I learned that I as a consumer am often moved by love–marks or brands that go beyond the usual to satisfy a deeper need within
myself or my imagination. For instance, over the past few months I have become increasingly intrigued by Revlon's new global marketing campaign,
"Love Is On". I went further to research this brand and their strategy. The phrase "L–O–V–E–I–S–O–N" is present in the brand name, Revlon,
furthermore the brand has remixed a classic song called "Addicted to Love" to go along with their commercial. Now repetition and popular influence
has been utilized in this advertisement. Aside from that, Revlon, has used this ad campaign to associate the brand with a relatable emotion, "love".
They go beyond the typical definition of love to describe the progressing stages of innocence, flirting, and passion accompanied with quick and bright
images/motions reenacting these emotions. Revlon accomplishes all this while displaying their products fluently (lipstick, mascara, etc.) in each "love"
scene within the 1 minute commercial. Revlon has utilized a popular song, repetition, brand associations, unique emotions, bright images, and tied it
into a relatable experience for all women the progression of love! The link to this video is as follows: https://www.youtube.com

Revlon V. Mcandrews And Forbes
Revlon v. McAndrews & Forbes: Less than a year later, the Delaware Supreme Court circumscribed directors' freedom of action by holding in this case
that, once a sale is in progress, the director's duty switches from protection or maintenance of the corporate enterprise to obtaining ''the highest price for
the benefit of the shareholders. In other words, once directors understand that the takeover will be successful, their duty is simply to obtain the best
price for the shareholders.
The first precedents of the Delaware Supreme Court show that the standards were reluctant to the permissiveness in adopting defensive measures.
Rather, the courts preferred the passivity of the board. However, 4 years later the standards changed when the Court relaxed the reins that had been
tightened in Unocal and Revlon.
Paramount Inc. v. Time Inc.: The court gave more leeway to directors in deciding on defensive measures, even after it was inevitable that the target
would be sold. The court held that directors of target could consider factors other than money values of the offers, including the amount of information
available to shareholders, the conditions attached to the offers, and the timing. These factors might justify defensive measures. These defenses were
called ''just say no defenses''. They refer to the ability of directors to simply reject takeovers for the purpose of protecting the constituencies of the
company.

Case Analysis : Revlon, Inc. V. Macandrews And Forbes Holding
Under Delaware law, Revlon principles apply when a sale of control is in question, whereby the duty of the board shifts from preserving the
corporate entity to actions that ensure maximum shareholder value. Revlon, Inc. v. MacAndrews & Forbes Holding, Inc., 506 A.2d 173 (Del.Supr.
1985). The key consideration when analyzing a merger agreement is whether or not the presented deal constitutes a "sale of control," imposing
"Revlon duties," which occurs when a corporation undertakes a transaction that causes a change in corporate control or a breakup of the corporate
entity, such as: a sale or merger for cash or debt securities; merger for securities that transfers control to a private company or to a public company with
a majority shareholder; sale for cash through active bidding process; and where, in response to a bidder's offer, a target abandons its long–term strategy
and seeks an alterative transaction. Paramount Communications, Inc. v. Time Inc., 571 A.2d 1150 (Del.Supr. 1989); Paramount Communications Inc. v.
QVC Network Inc., 637 A.2d 48 (Del. 1994) (clarifying what equates to a change–of–control); Revlon, Inc. v. MacAndrews & Forbes Holding, Inc.,
506 A.2d 173 (Del.Supr. 1985).
However, Revlon duties do not apply to a company's evaluation of whether or not to accept an acquisition proposal or merger of equals or a common
stock merger with a widely held public company, but Unocal duties attach when analyzing measures taken to bar other proposals. Paramount

Maybelline : The Target Market For Maybelline Essay
The target market for Maybelline's Great Lash Mascara is primarily women between the ages of 15 and 35. Because of this large age gap,
Maybelline over the years has become a more contemporary brand for all women of all races. They have done this by providing foundation shades in
a wider range of colors and introducing products that women of any age can use. Maybelline also produces different products for each country that
they distribute to. Each ad within an ad campaign is altered slightly or tremendously to better suit the culture it is marketing to. In the U.S., a large
percent of females begin to use makeup before the age of 16. As a girl uses Maybelline Great Lash Mascara, a well–known product, it could have
possibly been bought for her or given to her by her mother. With this specific product being around for many years, many women have grown to be
brand loyal to it. As a young woman grows into adulthood, the cheaper mascara option of Maybelline Great Lash can be compared to other brands
of higher price. Other competitors can provide a product that a consumer can reach for as they grow and can begin to afford to spend more on a
better quality or different formula of mascara. This can relate to income or social class within demographics as well. Some women choose this

  • 3. Critical Analysis Of The Revlon Girl Park Theatre's ninety seat theatre was the perfect venue for Neil Anthony Docking's The Revlon Girl, directed by Maxine Evans. While it would've been performed as beautifully in a larger venue, the cozy theatre was perfect for an intimate atmosphere –– feeling as though the audience were personally sharing a vulnerable moment with the grieving mothers at their meeting with the Revlon girl. Surrounding the catastrophic coal tip event at Aberfan in Wales, theplay takes place eight months following the 1966 disaster that killed children in an elementary school. Eight mothers meet every week at the Aberfan hotel to talk and laugh, but on this rainy Tuesday night, the mothers meet a representative from Revlon, hired to give the women hair and makeup tips. Through a few makeovers, the women learn to share what's truly on their minds and to not neglect oneself during painful times. Five folding chairs, a makeup chair, the doorframe and black wall –– the only set pieces in the entire production. The story of these grieving mothers outshone a large and complex set, which perhaps is the reason why Evans opted for a minimalistic and simple set. This was a brilliant decision, as the audience had no choice but to pay attention to the details of the play. Not only that but every single piece of the set, with the exception of the black wall and the door frame, was referred to. Nearly every chair was used by the women on stage, the table was used, and each of the women referred to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Beauty Of Advertising : Advertising April Sigrest Professor Lenoir English 102 13 September 2017 The Beauty of Advertising In a society where we are encouraged to purchase the top brands, the shiniest jewelry, and the best products on the market, companies have began to put themselves out there. One of the main ways they have attempted to accomplish this is through advertising. Advertisements can be found virtually anywhere ranging from the newspaper to TV commercials to billboards... The possibilities are endless. Competition in the advertising world is fierce as corporations do their best to persuade their audience to buy their product, convince consumers that their product is the best, and overall come out on top. Starring in movies like Tron, Cowboys & Aliens, and People Like Us, as well as popular television shows such as House, Wilde appeals to those who might not even buy Revlon's products. This alone is a powerful tactic in persuading viewers of the ad to buy the product. "Celebrity branding," as Wilson Dzisah labels it in the European Journal of Business and Management, "is the use of famous athletes, movie stars, music icons and television stars in promoting or advertising of goods and services" (Dzisah 200). He claims one of the main reasons that celebrity branding is so convincing to the average consumer is, "Celebrities are generally attractive, which helps persuasion when the product is attractive related" (Dzisah 201). Generally, a makeup company such as Revlon will hire an actress that is associated as attractive and that some might even recognize. If their products continue to sell, businesses will continue hiring their models. Dzisah continues saying, "Advertisers recognize the value of using celebrities, and think; they draw attention to advertising messages in a much cluttered media environment," (Dzisah 201) meaning that celebrities used in advertising contribute to gaining attention to a product. Aside from using celebrity branding, Revlon also puts all of the focus on the lipstick color. By blurring the background, it draws complete focus to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, if the NPV is: * positive, the benefits are more than large enough to repay the company for (1) the asset 's cost, (2) the cost of financing the project, and (3) a rate of return that adequately compensates the company for the risk found in the cash flow estimates. * zero, the benefits are barely enough to cover all three but you are at breakeven – no profit and no loss, and therefore you would be indifferent about accepting the project. * negative, the benefits are not large enough to cover all three, and therefore the project should be rejected. 3. After they perfected them Tom and Fred made different types to make them more interesting. When Fred broke his fingernail at work, he realized that he needed a nail to do his work. Women use makeup to enhance their natural beauty, but how they express themselves to the public has changed constantly. Makeup was first originated from Egypt. The ancient Egyptians used copper and lead ore to create the world's first cosmetics, as early 40000 – 10000 BCE. They lined their eye with kohl, a substance made of soot, metal, and fat. It was thought that kohl helped to prevent the eyes from blindness. Red or orange lipstick was worn to symbolize status – both men and women in the upper class wore it. They also used scented oils and ointments to clean and soften their skin and mask body odor. And also oils and creams were used for protection against the hot Egyptian sun and dry winds. During the 3000 BCE, Chinese people stained their fingernails with gum arabic, gelatin, beeswax, and egg. They used natural materials like kohl and berries to add color to their faces. Egyptian women even used a moisturizing substance called unguent on their faces to keep wrinkles away. In Roman times, women used kohl on their eyes and chalk to impart a whiter complexion. Cheeks and lips were given a rosy glow with rouge made from fruit juices. I had been for quite some time using an eyeliner jug, which I loved, but at the same time, hated how long it took to apply the liner. These days I 'm more about fast, simple, and effective. When I came across Revlon Bedroom Eyes Powder Liner, Fishnet Jet 660, at my local Rite Aide, I was immediately intrigued. A liner that goes on in a powdered form, yet is applied in the same manner that a wet liner would be applied. Revlon Bedroom Eyes Powder Liner, Fishnet Jet 660, comes in what appears to be a liquid eyeliner type container. At the bottom there is a small pot, where a screw on cap reveals the actual application wand. I seriously had no idea what to expect, and the in store advertisement was vague, and showed bland color results on the color menu which was located right below the rack of liners. I went with Fishnet Jet, because on the advertising it appeared to be the darkest color; yet it also looked as if it had some sort of navy tint going on. The word NEW stood out, and I couldn 't resist it. I went ahead and made the purchase. I hoped it worked well, because honestly $9.95 for such a small container is a bit much in my opinion. My Use: When I first opened up the package, I unscrewed the top and found that the application wand had a large sponge applicator at the end. A lot larger than what I was expecting. I usually ... • 22. Internal Marketing of an Organization 1. Internal marketing is focused inward on the organization, used to motivate all functions within the company towards an objective (No author, 2012). In this situation, Revlon management needs to make the case for increasing its focus on sustainable or green cosmetics. The initiative will require the company to divert some resources from existing operations, so the internal marketing will need to focus on justifying that. The internal marketing effort will need to shift the company's philosophies, which to this point have not focused on green initiatives. For Revlon, this is the first step in "greening" the company. Senior management buy–in is essential here, and the initial communications must come from them. There needs to be constant reinforcement and because this is an internal marketing program the company also needs to provide some justification in the form of market information. If the company is in a state of crisis, that will also help, because crisis usually creates motivation for change. 2. There are significant opportunities in marketing greener cosmetics. Reliable figures are difficult to find, but one report showed that the natural cosmetics industry is worth $6.9 billion and is growing (McHugh, 2010). To the extent that number can be taken seriously, the implication is that there is a lot of money on the table for green cosmetics both in Europe and in North America. All the companies want to sell their products, because they want to make profit. When a company knows that a product that it manufactures is not very good they do not share that with their customers. On the contrary, they make a very impressive advertising for the product, because all they want is to sell it. Everyone knows that advertising a product is not really done because the product is just wonderful and everyone should know about it. They say:" better ingredients, better pizza, papa John's." First of all I don't understand what they meant by saying "better". Better than what? I assume that it is better than the pizza that I eat now. How do they know it is better? Different people like different types of pizza; some people even like it when it is homemade. I love the pizza that my grandmother prepares more than any other type of pizza I have ever tasted. She has a little garden outside her house and she plants peppers and some tomatoes there. No one can ever convince me that they have "better ingredients" and "better pizza" than my grandmother's. In this case again if we do not pay attention to all these facts and one day we feel the most severe hunger, the line pops up in our head "Better ingredients, better pizza, Papa John's". We put our shoes on and run to the nearest Papa John's restaurant because the company's advertisers have made us believe that they sell the best pizza. Another technique that advertisers use is the presence of role models. You see a person like Lebron James advertising the soft drink Sprite. You may start thinking that since he is such a good basketball player and he drinks Sprite then if you start drinking it may be you will look like him at least a little. In today's advertisement, advertising company mostly uses celebrities as an endorser. Emma Stone has been a great endorser of Revlon for the couple of years. Emma Stone has fresh and natural beauty to be a perfect model for this product. Her 2015 Revlon cover is selling the newest "Ultra HD Lipstick" that comes in "20 high definition shades to love" (ad). Emma stone is portraying a very sophisticated look, and fine hydrant red lips. Her lips are red, everything on the advertisement are almost red, and the "Revlon" logo is dauntlessly red. She is wearing a white top that is perfect for the background. Her hair is blond, and her makeup are elegant looking. The design of the advertisement is flawless. Out of the 20 shades, the red is defining the brand. Red is very outstanding, and is sure to gain buyers attention. • 26. The Revlon Beauty Company Is A Global And Classic Brand Essay The Revlon Beauty Company is a global and classic brand. An advertisement found in Glamour Magazine, promotes the sales of Revlon's well–known nail polish enamel. The ad features a man with a woman's hands draped over him to promote new nail polish colors. Revlon attempts to convince readers to purchase beauty products, including nail polish, through the use of colorful imagery, diction, and appeals to pathos and ethos; overall the ad is fairly effective at convincing the target audience of women ages 18–40. In order to capture our attention, the company first creates an appealing visual to draw us in. In the Revlon advertisement, the face of an attractive Argentinian male dominates the page. He holds a seductive pose, staring directly at the viewer while simultaneously winking; this creates a feeling of intimacy with the viewer. A whitewoman's hands are then carefully placed in his hair and his mouth; she is playfully touching him while he gently bites her finger. The use of a white female and Argentinian male conveys the idea that women find men of "color" more attractive and masculine. The woman is hidden in the image, consumed by a black background. This gives us the freedom to imagine her as anyone, including ourselves. If we buy this product and use it, we will attract the attention of men and be more flirtatious. Over the five–year period between 2011 & 2015, its retail price remains the least and has not experienced a significant increase. In the same period, leaders in the industry have increased their retail price of the product a little more significantly. If the brand aims to capture more market share and sustain its business, there is a need to understand preferences of its competitor's customers to understand what it lacks. It can also identify trends in customer loyalty and its strengths, which it can build on in the future. There is no such thing as a growth industry, but the company's strength can lie in the fact that its core leadership is not matched or challenged. Their products are globally known and are sold in a variety of stores like grocery stores, drug stores, etc. The Procter & Gamble company also plan to keep growing and making a mark in the pharmacies and perfumeries. A singer that they have used as an ambassador for their product is Gwen Stefani, just like Colgate made a partnership with Cole Whitt. The amount of funding Revlon puts into their advertising is growing from year to year and has reached up to $383 million dollars, which is quite a substantial amount less than Colgate uses. In watching this video, I learned that I as a consumer am often moved by love–marks or brands that go beyond the usual to satisfy a deeper need within myself or my imagination. For instance, over the past few months I have become increasingly intrigued by Revlon's new global marketing campaign, "Love Is On". I went further to research this brand and their strategy. The phrase "L–O–V–E–I–S–O–N" is present in the brand name, Revlon, furthermore the brand has remixed a classic song called "Addicted to Love" to go along with their commercial. Now repetition and popular influence has been utilized in this advertisement. Aside from that, Revlon, has used this ad campaign to associate the brand with a relatable emotion, "love". They go beyond the typical definition of love to describe the progressing stages of innocence, flirting, and passion accompanied with quick and bright images/motions reenacting these emotions. Revlon accomplishes all this while displaying their products fluently (lipstick, mascara, etc.) in each "love" scene within the 1 minute commercial. • 41. Revlon V. Mcandrews And Forbes Revlon v. McAndrews & Forbes: Less than a year later, the Delaware Supreme Court circumscribed directors' freedom of action by holding in this case that, once a sale is in progress, the director's duty switches from protection or maintenance of the corporate enterprise to obtaining ''the highest price for the benefit of the shareholders. In other words, once directors understand that the takeover will be successful, their duty is simply to obtain the best price for the shareholders. The first precedents of the Delaware Supreme Court show that the standards were reluctant to the permissiveness in adopting defensive measures. Rather, the courts preferred the passivity of the board. However, 4 years later the standards changed when the Court relaxed the reins that had been tightened in Unocal and Revlon. Paramount Inc. v. Time Inc.: The court gave more leeway to directors in deciding on defensive measures, even after it was inevitable that the target would be sold. The court held that directors of target could consider factors other than money values of the offers, including the amount of information available to shareholders, the conditions attached to the offers, and the timing. These factors might justify defensive measures. These defenses were called ''just say no defenses''. They refer to the ability of directors to simply reject takeovers for the purpose of protecting the constituencies of the company. Unitrin v. • 43. Case Analysis : Revlon, Inc. V. Macandrews And Forbes Holding Under Delaware law, Revlon principles apply when a sale of control is in question, whereby the duty of the board shifts from preserving the corporate entity to actions that ensure maximum shareholder value. Revlon, Inc. v. MacAndrews & Forbes Holding, Inc., 506 A.2d 173 (Del.Supr. 1985). The key consideration when analyzing a merger agreement is whether or not the presented deal constitutes a "sale of control," imposing "Revlon duties," which occurs when a corporation undertakes a transaction that causes a change in corporate control or a breakup of the corporate entity, such as: a sale or merger for cash or debt securities; merger for securities that transfers control to a private company or to a public company with a majority shareholder; sale for cash through active bidding process; and where, in response to a bidder's offer, a target abandons its long–term strategy and seeks an alterative transaction. Paramount Communications, Inc. v. Time Inc., 571 A.2d 1150 (Del.Supr. 1989); Paramount Communications Inc. v. QVC Network Inc., 637 A.2d 48 (Del. 1994) (clarifying what equates to a change–of–control); Revlon, Inc. v. MacAndrews & Forbes Holding, Inc., 506 A.2d 173 (Del.Supr. 1985). However, Revlon duties do not apply to a company's evaluation of whether or not to accept an acquisition proposal or merger of equals or a common stock merger with a widely held public company, but Unocal duties attach when analyzing measures taken to bar other proposals.
