BOLT is the manifestation of this dream. We wanted to bring great content that was
informational, uplifting and localised for emerging markets. We wanted to ensure that
such content would also be interactive, bandwidth friendly, and accessible on Mobile.
We wanted to give people access to the content they would find meaningful, while
allowing creators to get rewarded by virtue of the BOLT ecosystem expansion — without
the complexities of share issuances- and provide insulation against the fluctuation in
emerging market currencies.
So we built BOLT as an ecosystem on the Blockchain to provide an in-ecosystem
store of value which increases as utility increases. We built BOLT on a core set of
values centered around transparency, collaboration, and innovation. These values
drive how we work with our community and how we engage with our users. We believe
that BOLT can be a win-win for creators and users to mutually unlock value by
participating equally in the ecosystem- whether by contributing a news highlight from
Tanzania or subtitling a Korean music video into Bahasa Indonesian. BOLT users can
accumulate the BOLT tokens to be used within the ecosystem, or exchange it for other
popular tokens which can be bartered in their respective fiat values.
As founders, we share the common thread that our passions were at the intersection
of stories and technology - never one without the other. Over time, we realised that
by combining our passions, we could create new paradigms — one that would
empower the creative community and uplift a whole generation who were just
starting to get on the information highway.

Today, BOLT is a year old and has already accumulated close to 4 million users from Kenya to
Malaysia. We have piloted a new program of rewarding our content creators with the value of
the ecosystem growth, as we believe that our ecosystem is as valuable as their participation
and the content they share on the platform. We are educating, informing, and delighting
millions of fans, one day at a time, across multiple genres such as football, news, and music.
Video is just the beginning for us. We are a mobile first platform — and we have bigger
aspirations. We envision a cultural town-hall that is driven by global pockets of meaning for
our users. We want to connect immigrants in Malaysia to news back home in Bangladesh. We
want to enable someone in Indonesia to discover the artistry and creativity of a musician from
Kenya. This starts with providing an immersive user experience starting with video, but we
intend to expand into audio, and use that as enablers for verticals such as health, education,
and even micro-finance. We want to connect users all around the world to content and
conversations that will matter- and help shape their day for the better.
Our mission is to democratise the chain between content producers and
users. Our vision is to build an interactive town-hall of shared moments that
will expand our horizons.

6 months have elapsed since we released the first edition of our whitepaper. Since then, the BOLT
team has progressed the ecosystem across partnerships, operations, and technology. Our goal is
to continue building strong fundamentals for increasing the utility value of our BOLT Token
ecosystem.
What’s the Progress?

BOLT is an operational, mobile focused video content platform centred on delivering live (e.g. Live TV,
Premium Sports) and Trendy video highlights (<5 min in duration per clip) to emerging markets that
are constrained by bandwidth. Today, we have users streaming our service on web and Android. (iOS
releasing soon)

Emerging Markets have
trouble accessing/paying for
digital services economically.
We’re working to solve that through the power of the Blockchain
1. No Bank Account, No Credit Cards. Many users in emerging markets (3B people globally) are
underbanked (no credit card, minimal use of bank account)
2. High Commissions charged by Payment Gateways/Middlemen. The most convenient/scalable
solution for access was utilising payment gateways (e.g. provided by telcos) where telcos will receive
a 30% commission from the digital service provider
3. Minimum charge per user transaction is not pegged for the masses. Through 3rd party providers
(e.g. Google Pay, Fortumo), the minimum charge per transaction can range from USD 1 and upwards.
In markets where average salaries are less than USD 10/week, this limits access to the underserved.
4. Payment Gateways are Local in Nature, not for Global Scalability. Integrating such gateways often
requires significant tech and implementation investment (per telco, per 3rd party partner, per market,
which brings up to almost 4-5 options per country). This limits global deployment and rapid
scalability for any solution provider
5. User Pays Instantly, Business Collects Revenue 120 days later. Credit terms from middlemen
(payment gateways) can range from 120-150 days after user pays for access - limiting cash flow/
liquidity for digital service providers.
6. Allowing More Content/Service Developers to Monetise. Thousands of creative content producers
have trouble monetising their content and to be able to operate in an independent and sustainable
manner.

An opportunity to decentralise: Currently, 30-40% of revenue that goes through telco providers
are lost as an entrance fee for BOLT to bill customers through a telco payment gateway.
Furthermore, telcos require a minimum price point of USD 0.10 to process payments, which
exposes a market gap where users are not able to access BOLT due to insufficient mobile credit
balance.
Business/Liquidity efficiency: Partners get compensated instantly by tokens they accumulate
through user transactions within the BOLT ecosystem, instead of awaiting for 120-day payment
terms from payment gateways.
Bundling BOLT Tokens with telco data bundles: To increase our user base amongst the masses
(i.e. anyone purchasing a data plan), BOLT would also be working on bundling deals with telcos,
to encourage Bolt Token usage across the service.

Users
The World’s First Open Entertainment Economy
Built on Zilliqa, the world’s first high speed and secure public Blockchain platform
BOLT allows partners to bill users for their services with the single BOLT token, instead of using
a basket of fiat currencies in emerging markets. The value of the BOLT Token is determined by
the level of activity and the demand for its services within the ecosystem. The value of the BOLT
Token is secure and tamper-proof - BOLT Tokens cannot be counterfeited or toppled by political
regimes. BOLT partners get instant liquidity should they choose to exchange the BOLT Token for
Bitcoin or Ethereum on cryptocurrency exchanges.
The BOLT Token is the utility token which makes the system work. Tokens are required to
access services on the platform, but there are a number of ways for users to earn tokens by
participating in the community. Those who publish content can earn tokens from those who view
that content. Those who help the community by voting on content or participating in community
based content moderation can earn tokens. Those who want to translate content into a different
language will earn tokens. BOLT’s community tasks can be voted on and prioritised by the
community to decide the value of tokens allocated to each task.
The result is that users can choose how the platform operates for them - they can be
contributors or consumers, but the super-profits currently earned by centralised social media
platforms will not exist. The value exchange in the BOLT ecosystem is entirely among network
participants.

Built on Zilliqa, the fastest public blockchain platform. Zilliqa is capable of a throughput of
2,488 transactions per second. In contrast, Ethereum achieves 7-10 transactions per second
while Bitcoin’s Blockchain achieves 1-3 transactions per second. Zilliqa’s main-net will be
launched in Q1 2019. Based in Singapore, Zilliqa has raised USD 22M in its recent token
generation event.
More than Entertainment - venturing into Education
Partnership with Oxademy, an online business service from Oxford to develop continuing
education courses for BOLT. Oxademy has blended a first-of-its-kind knowledge-driven
artificial intelligence (AI) cloud infrastructure called OX360 which identifies each learner's
strengths and weaknesses and generates learning paths based on individual learner’s
behaviour. Certificates will be issued and validated on BOLT’s smart contract for users who
have successfully completed educational video content courses on BOLT. BOLT Education
intends to play a role in uplifting communities via mobile learning that is both portable and
convenient.
Opportunities for Secure Liquidity
Partnership with Switcheo Network, the first multi-blockchain decentralised exchange (DEX).
Switcheo is a no-frills DEX which enables 1-click login (private key or Ledger login). Coupled with
a user-friendly interface and powered by Smart Contracts, Switcheo is backed by NEO Global
Capital, Open Platform, and Bridge Protocol. BOLT will allow for transfers from fiat payments to
