The Happy Hearts Fund By Petra Nemcova
"We cannot stop natural disasters but we can arm ourselves with knowledge: so many lives wouldn't
have to be lost if there was enough disaster preparedness."(Petra Nemcova) Disasters can happen in
what seems like a moment. Some have time to prepare for what will come, while others suffer the
effects. Petra Nemcova is one of the many helping to fix the effects of disasters and comfort those in
need. She does this by founding the Happy Hearts Fund. This Fund rebuilds safe and resilient
schools for towns impacted by disaster. Yet, in these situations the way individuals and the help
react, helps to impact the outcome of the disaster.
After a disaster strikes most people feel unprepared because they were never educated on those
circumstances. "We have fears that we admit to openly and ones that we never discuss. We carry
around this half–completed sentence, filling in the different scenarios depending on the anxiety of
the times: I wonder what I would do if..."(Ripely xi). When those "what if" statements come true,
most people deny what is actually happening. Therefore, individuals go through three stages when
disaster strikes: denial, deliberation, and the decisive moment. "Real life doesn't usually follow a
linear arc, or course. Sometimes the path to survival is more like a looping roller coaster, doubling
up and back upon itself as we struggle to find the true north. But it's rare that anyone survives a
disaster without pushing– or being pushed – through each of these

A Day At Home
It had been a fairly, nice day, and work wasn't to bad. My boss wasn't on my tail for not getting him
a paper on time. It was supper time when I got home. The food was already set out and the kids at
the table when I walked in the door. Jane, 9 years old, had a book in her hand like normal. Billy, 4
years old, sat there picking at his scab. My husband came in with the last plate. Jason had been out
of a job for 9 months now, so he was the stay at home mom for a little while. I set my bag down on
our wooden table right beside the door. I walked over to the table said hi down and went to finish
helping my husband. When we were finished, I sat down to look all of my wonderful family in the
eye and see that today was a good day.

Then I got down on my knees to check for monsters. What I didn't expect was to see a pair of
glowing eyes staring back at me. I went ghostly white. This creature barely whispered, "Mommy,
there is someone in my bed."
I panicked, I didn't know what this thing was. It just was under there not moving at all. It was afraid
I was going to do something to it. A million thoughts went through my head. I decided to call for
Jason. He hurried into the room wondering what was going on. "Yes, honey?" "I want to show you
this paint chip on the bed frame."
I knew he would rush over because we came up with a password to warn each other of something
important without alarming the children. He bent down next to me. I pointed at the things under the
bed. He almost grasped before he caught herself. He panicked and looked at me. I couldn't tell from
the lighting of the room but I knew he was going to call the police. He dialed the phone, "Excuse
me, but there is something under my sons bed. More like another one of him. Please come to my
house. I am not joking, this is something we don't know how to deal with."
"Yes. We will be there shortly, if you could just stay calm and don't alarm the children. We will be
coming with the sirens off and looking out for your house. Can I please have your address ?"

Literary Analysis Of All Summer In A Day
Kids can be cruel when they are envious as shown in the short story, "All Summer In A Day," by
Ray Bradbury. The sun is what makes Margot happy, and when that gets taken away from her. In
this short story there is several acts of cruelty to Margot by her classmates. These kids live in the
planet of Venus, and they haven't seen the sun in seven years, except for Margot. The kids are only
nine years old so they haven't seen the sun since they were two years old, but Margot moved there
from Earth when she was four and she remembers the sun and that makes the other kids envious. In
the beginning of the story it is the day that the sun is supposed to come out for the first time in seven
years! The kids were skeptical except for Margot because she wanted to see it so bad. The kids were
starting to prepare for the sun to come out but they were sitting inside waiting. While they were
waiting the kids decided to lock Margot in a closet and not let her out. When the sun came out all
the kids ran outside to play in the sun that felt so warm and nice on their skin, except for Margot,
who was sitting inside in the dark closet. When the kids came back inside they felt sorry for leaving
Margot in there. Envy can lead people to commit awful acts and cause shame as demonstrated
throughout the character's actions in, "All Summer In A Day." Margot gets treated cruelly by those
in her class because they are envious of where she's from and her knowledge, or experience. Margot
is nine years old, living on the planet Venus, where she moved from Earth, when she was four years
old. Margot is the only kid in her class the remembers the sun and this makes all the other kids
envious of her because when the other kids saw the sun they were only two years old but Margot
was four which makes them jealous. When Margot was talking about the scientist predicting the sun
would come out one of the boys said, "'All a joke... let's put her in a closet before the teacher comes
back!'" (Bradbury 3). The kids are so envious or jealous of Margot that they want to lock her in a
closet, right before the sun is supposed to come out because they don't believe it is. When the sun
finally came out the children rush outside to enjoy nature and the sun,

Analysis Of The Book ' A Monster Calls '
Summary
In the book "A Monster Calls" by Patrick Ness, Conor is a teenage boy who is in denial and happens
to be living a pretty normal life. His life was fine until a monster suddenly showed up at his house in
the middle of the night. The monster ends up telling Conor stories; stories that have hidden lessons.
The monster beats and destroys a room filled with valuables in his grandmother's house and caused
even more destruction to Conor's life. Conor is mad at the monster for not helping him with his
problems – which seem to be on the outside. Little does he know, the problem is actually within
him. Conor reveals a truth that had been hidden from everyone. And by finally revealing that truth,
Conor is able to heal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Professional Athlete Of A Team Sport
In 1975, after his retirement from the NFL, David Kopay was the first major professional athlete of
a team sport to come out as a homosexual. Very few have followed after Kopay's example, but based
on the percentages of individuals who identify as a member of the LGBTQIA (Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual) community, including those who have both come
out and those who have not, it is assumed that 5% to 10% of NFL players are "closeted" and have
not come out as homosexual (Garber, 1999). It is a common theme to see athletes, especially those
who are part of a team sport, come out once they enter retirement, as opposed to sometime during
their career. In fact, 2014 was the year Michael Sam became the first ... Show more content on

As of July 2014 this study, entitled "Out of the Fields", has interviewed and surveyed approximately
2500 Australians that included both heterosexual individuals and members of the LGBTQIA
community (who the study refers to as "LGB people" for short). The initial key findings show that
"85% of LGB people and 75% of heterosexual participants said they have witnessed or experienced
homophobia in a sporting environment either playing or as a spectator", 64% of LGB people and
47% of heterosexual people agree or strongly agree that homophobia (in the form of comments,
jokes, insults or abuse) is more common in team sporting environments than in the general society,
and 50% of LGB people reported being a target of homophobia ("Out of the Fields", 2014). Results
also show that verbal slurs like "fag, dyke, or poofter" were the most common form of homophobia,
then homophobic jokes ranking as the second most common form, and finally casual comments like
"that's so gay" ("Out of the Fields", 2014). The issue here is that admitted LGB people are being
bullied to the point where participation in sport is unsafe and not worth the risk while closeted LGB
people are scared into silence. Based on the critical theory, there is lack of fairness and sensitivity to
diversity when it comes to LGB athletes. The goal is to improve the general population's

Persuasive Narrative Essay About Friendships
We waited. Those main doors were busy after the bells rang for 3:15pm. But nowhere in the crowd
did we find Daniel. Which made sense, of course; probably still shaken from the picture. My friends
and I had planned to beat David up after school. We were the most popular group in our grade, and
no other groups were able to surpass us. But I will be completely honest, I did not want to do it. I
tried every possible way to not have to hurt David. I swear! (looks at audience). I know what you're
thinking. That I'm just saying this to cover up what I had done. But when you're with your group of
friends, you have to look cool, keep your popularity. I mean how many of you wouldn't do
something stupid if it meant losing all your friendships? See, that's how I felt. We waited for a while.
He just wouldn't come out. Maybe he had gone through the back doors. But there was no way he
would have, being so bold and confident with no one talking to him for the past few weeks since the
picture was posted. He was actually happy; I could see it in him. I suggest to the group that he had
left through the back doors, trying to avoid this once more. Everyone agrees and I feel a relief when
all of a sudden, Daniel pushes the door and says, "I'll see you on the other side." Except this time, he
looks scared. He walks out of the door and; all my friends dash towards him. I black out for a

My Very Good Friend From High School, Maeleigh, And Her...
I interviewed my very good friend from high school, Maeleigh, and her recent girlfriend, Anna.
Maeleigh and Anna have completely different "coming out" stories at this point in their lives.
Growing up with Maeleigh, I was able to see how her life was affected by being gay. I know more
about her lifestyle and story than most would and it was difficult for her to figure herself out. Mae
was very confused and distraught as she got older and she started to realize she was not the so called
"normal" little girl. She had to learn to except herself before she could tell anyone or most
importantly come out to her parents. As for Anna, I have no personal ties to her. Maeleigh met Anna
this year at school; they both attend Manchester University and play on the softball team. They
eventually got together and developed a relationship. Everything between the two is new and they
are learning more about each others stories and how they dealt with coming out. Coming out is one
of the most difficult aspects of being a lesbian. They have spent an extreme amount of time playing
out in their minds how to tell this news to their parents. The scariest part, both have said, would
have to be the thought of being rejected by their families. Maeleigh had known she was different
from everyone since she was in 5th grade. She began to find herself having crushes on girls rather
than boys. She said in 5th grade she was terrified, not knowing why she felt this way. Not knowing
the reasons why she felt

Character Analysis Of Hamlet
William Shakespeare is one of the world's most renowned authors, who is especially known for his
plays. One of his plays is Hamlet tells the story of a young educated prince, Hamlet, who comes
home to his mother married to his uncle, in which he seeks to find the truth behind their relationship.
Based on his actions, Hamlet is in fact experiencing a psychotic breakdown, but it is resulting from
his act of being crazy. The other characters have noticed how Hamlet has changed since he has been
back in Denmark and they attempt to analyze him. Horatio is the first to notice how Hamlet is acting
now, and he suspects that it is not all coming from Hamlet himself. After Hamlet's conversation with
the Ghost, Hamlet plans to get the truth of his mother's marriage. Horatio "assumes" that there is
"some horrible form" that is causing Hamlet to want to go to the extremes he is about to take to find
out the truth (I.iv.80). Of course, that horrible form Horatio was referencing was the Ghost, which
was "[drawing Hamlet] into madness" (I.iv.82). Horatio warns Hamlet to be careful in following the
Ghost's advice because it could lead him to do something that he would not ordinarily do. Hamlet's
mother, the Queen, also believes that he is putting on a show. Hamlet is an emotional wreck because
he has come back to Denmark following his father's death and his mother is married to his uncle, his
father's brother. Hamlet feels that their marriage is disrespectful because his father had not been
deceased long, and thinks his mother was moving off of emotion instead of logic. The Queen
especially notices how Hamlet has started acting toward Ophelia. Ophelia is deeply in love with
Hamlet; however, he does nothing but mentally abuse her to push her away. The Queen suspects that
"Hamlet's wildness" is based off Ophelia's "good beauties" (III.i.43–44). The King also notices the
new Hamlet and his actions toward Ophelia, but he does not believe that he is acting. The King and
Ophelia's father, Polonius, watch Hamlet and Ophelia interact. The King notices how Hamlet does
no vibe well with Ophelia, and he sees how it could come a problem quickly (III.i.176). The King
believes that his actions were a result of his "madness" (III.i.178).

Closeted Self
There are many things I wish I could have told my 13–year–old closeted self.
At 13 years old I knew that there was something different about me. Something that made me
unique or off. I didn't understand exactly what it was, but I knew it was something. At 13 years old, I
had my first crush on a girl, and it was one of the most confusing times in my life. I did have the
most wonderful parents ever, but I would frequently pick up on a homophobic slur or derogatory
comment from my dad, school kids, and even my mom. They were never comments made with the
intent to hurt me, but they were homophobic regardless, and for a kid who was struggling with
identity, they hurt.
As I grew up, I became really good at closeting things. The most commonly closeted items were my
feelings. I internalized every thought, especially the gay ones. I tried to ignore my ... Show more

You will get an incredible amount of support from your friends when you come out. No one will
dis–own you. You will deprive yourself of happiness forever if you don't feel comfortable being all
of yourself. By the time you're 17 years old, you are going to to love yourself to the point of being a
little narcissistic because well you're a pretty wonderful person. Lastly, it shouldn't be this hard in
the first place, but just know that it honestly gets better.
Being told you're not good enough,is damaging to any person, but children and teenagers in
particular. I believe every teenager should have the opportunity to go prom and fall in love and make
stupid mistakes regardless of sexuality. No young person should be denied any of these things
because society has them so terrified of their own sexuality that they self destruct.
So I will continue to fight for a society in which it is no longer necessary to come out. I will
continue to fight so that gender and sexuality are free of their societal roles. I will continue to fight

Same Sex Marriage Should Be Legal
Same sex marriage became legal on June 26th, 2015. So, why is there still discrimination? It's legal,
right? The discrimination against homosexual athletes in American sports is out of control and needs
to be changed immediately. How would people feel being looked down upon being one of the only
openly gay athletes in the United States? Before 2014 there was not any openly gay athletes
currently playing professional sports in the United States. This shows the fear humans have when it
comes to being honest about their sexuality because they know what the general public thinks about
it. Discrimination is inhumane, especially when it comes to peoples beliefs. Sixty–five percent of
females in the WNBA are homosexual, but are not discriminated against compared to the way male
athletes are. Many gay athletes do not come out about their sexuality until after retirement because
they fear what others will think. Discrimination is inhumane, especially when it comes to peoples
beliefs. "Saying negative comments or slurs about someone's sexuality is just as bad as insulting a
player about his or her race or religion" (Griffen, 2003). Somebody's belief are how they feel about
their world and they should not be judged or insulted. The United States is a unique country and a
great place to live, so why should we discourage other citizens when everybody's views are their
own? "If people are being harassed on your team, speak out against it" (Griffen, 2003). As an
athlete, only so many

I Am An Outcast
I'm an outcast. I knew I was an outcast ever since I looked at my best friend and I thought "wow, I
would date her." And it wasn't like "wow, if I was gay I would date her," it was "I would date her in
a heartbeat." These thoughts led me to discover that I, Elysia Wright, youngest in a family of 7 other
half– and step–siblings, the only daughter my mum has ever had, was completely and utterly
bisexual. Now, it wasn't a snap decision. I've had years to stew in my thoughts to confirm that yes, I
am bisexual. There was just one problem. By October 11th, 2015, everyone knew of my sexuality.
Everyone, that is, except my mum. My mum, who I have long been close to, who I have known
longer than anyone in the world, was completely unaware of her daughter's attraction to people of
the same gender. To tell the truth, I wasn't entirely sure why I hadn't told her. It's not like she would
snap at me – heck, she's always supported me – but there was something holding me back, some
deep–rooted fear, some monster under my bed that whispered bitter lies in my ear and told me that
everything would not be okay, that I would not be okay, and for some stupid reason I listened to it. I
couldn't put this off forever. I knew that. What was I going to do, introduce my mum to my
girlfriend on our wedding day? Though the prospect was amusing, I knew I wouldn't be able to wait
that long. I knew that it was time for me to be an outcast. October 11th, 2015. I mentioned this date

College Admissions Essay: A Personal Experience Of Being Gay
Growing up I was different from all the other boys; for example, during recess in elementary school
most boys would elect to go play "Power Rangers", but I would always choose to play house with
the girls. If we had a free day during Physical Education the boys would generally chose to play
some sport that requires a ball, and I would choose to go play double Dutch with the girls, pretty
much anyone I chose to hang out was a girl. At the time I didn't think it was weird that I generally
enjoyed doing things that were traditionally considered girly, It was just an aspect of who I was, But
once I went to middle school I learned that meant people would call me gay. It would later take me

'The Motorcycle Diaries, And Ernesto Guevara'sMilk'
Instances of rediscovery, or reflection throughout a process of discovery, catalyse moments of
reassessment that allow for a complete understanding of otherwise only half–formed initial
discoveries. This is represented in both Ernesto Guevara's memoir The Motorcycle Diaries, and the
biographical film Milk (2008), directed by Gus Van Sant, depicting the election of Harvey Milk, the
first openly gay official in California.
In both texts, moments of rediscovery catalysed by personal encounters allow for the reassessment
of initial discoveries, whereupon they are understood more profoundly.
In The Motorcycle Diaries, Guevara's discoveries of the devastating effects of US neo–colonialism
in Latin America are only fully understood upon his rediscoveries of the equally harmful nature of
not only tourism, but also his own vagabond traveling. Through their encounters with farm
labourers, Guevara's initial discovery of the Araucanian race's "deep suspicion of the white man
who... now continues to exploit them" is shown through the prominent motif of sharing mate, which
highlights the early understanding between them. However, this understanding is expanded upon
reaching Cuzco, where the symbolic juxtaposition of the three layers of the city emphasises his
reassessment of how "a hesitant tourist [also] pass[es] over things superficially". Even further, in
Guevara's encounter with the Chilean communist couple, graphic imagery accentuates his
rediscovery of the "parasitic nature" of not

Summary Of Ray Bradbury's 'All Summer In A Day'?
"They thought they remembered the warmness, like a blushing in the face, in the body, in their arms
and legs and trembling hands. But then they always awoke to the tatting drum," (Bradbury, 1954).
They would imagine the warmth of the sun, but only one child would remember and the others
would forget once again. In the short story, "All Summer in a Day" by Ray Bradbury, it describes
Venus where it is constantly raining and the sun never comes out leaving the planet with small
amounts of of light. Margot, a young 9 year old girl lives on Venus with the small colony of
scientists and their children. The other children were born on Venus and could not remember the
sun, but Margot was not born there. She still has memories of the sun when she was on Earth,
making her stand apart from the other children. As the other children recognized her differences,
jealousy manifested within them. As the children are mindful of her experiences they would harass
her and she would become depressed in her isolation. This is shown when the children deny her
beliefs of the sun, push her around like she's nothing, and lock her in a closet when she has one
chance to see the sun in 5 years.
To start, Bradbury uses craft moves to display the children's denial and jealousy of Margot's
description of the sun from her memory and experiences. The similes Bradbury uses helps describe
what the sun is like from Margot's memory. " 'It's like a penny,' she said once, eyes closed. 'No it's
not!' the children

Everything Is Illuminated By Jonathan Safran Foer
Put aside your stance on homosexuality, and put yourself into the shoes of someone who is a
homosexual. Imagine how you would feel if the world did not accept who you are as a person
because you are different. Only because you didn't find the opposite sex attractive to you. In
Jonathan Safran Foer's book Everything is illuminated we find out that Alex confesses his love for
Jonathan near the end of the book as he becomes more comfortable with Jonathan. Why does Alex
not tell Jonathan from the beginning? Is he uncomfortable being open that he is a homosexual? In
the beginning of reading the book you read a letter from Alex and he describes himself to the reader
he goes on talking about the things he likes and how he has many women that want to be with him
and reading this you would think of him as a lady's man. "... Many girls want to be carnal with me in
many good arrangements, notwith– standing the Inebriated Kangaroo, the Gorky Tickle, and the
Unyielding Zookeeper. If you want to know why so many girls want to be with me, it is because I
am a very premium person to be with. I am homely, and also severely funny, and these are winning
things" (2). Alex seems to be a very confident person and outgoing. He seems to have a personality
that is very "loud". The reader is lead to believe that this is Alex's personality and that he is not a
homosexual, throughout the book. Then at the end we see this change and Alex confesses his love to
Jonathan in a way that is not plain and

The Death Of The Fireman Ended
When George's conversation with the fireman ended, he received a supportive pat on the back. He
walked away broken and went to join Becca and Miranda. His complexion was paste. He held so
still it seemed he might shatter if he moved a muscle.
Eventually, Matt had to be dragged away from the hole. Becca took a deep breath. "I can't see
Caleb," she said. "Something's wrong."
Matt could barely stand as the fireman led him across the walkway. Behind them, Ashley was being
carried out on a stretcher. As they got closer, Becca shielded her face from the sun ─ again trying to
see where Caleb was.
With Matt on solid ground, Miranda wrapped her arms around him so tight he couldn 't move.
Becca darted off and attached herself to Ashley's stretcher. It was difficult keeping up with the
fireman's brisk pace as they moved toward the ambulance just past the trees.
Looking down at Ashley's blood drained face, Becca's voice came out in a squeak. "Is she going to
be okay?"
"She should pull through just fine," one of the firemen answered as they approached the awaiting
paramedics. "Hell of a day for you kids," he added. Before Becca was able to ask anything else, the
fireman picked up his beeping radio and began a lengthy conversation. The other fireman was
already long gone.
"Wait!" Becca asked. The paramedics were about to load Ashley into the ambulance when she
leaned down and kissed her frozen forehead. "I love you, Ashley," she cried. "Please, be okay."

Closeted Homosexuality Research Paper
3. Theory Discussion This paper is focused on exploring the reaction closeted homosexuals have
towards gay marriage and whether they experience a more extreme, negative reaction towards it
than those who are heterosexual. The theory here is that individuals who are closeted homosexuals,
are closeted because they are experiencing some sort of rejection of their identity as being
homosexual. Those who are closeted homosexuals are either unable to come to terms with their
sexual orientation or, perhaps do not want others to know, and thus, react strong against
homosexuality and any legislation which supports gay rights. A key aspect of this theory is
repression. Homosexuals who suppress or hide their homosexuality are referred to as "closeted"
homosexuals. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

towards the school nervously, not knowing what my fate was. I opened the glass and steel door to
school. It was my first day that the school knew I was gay. I was in the seventh grade at the time
when everyone is going threw that weird stage in life when you don't know your place is in life. I
was more lost and confused then ever. At the beginning of the year I was still in my homophobic
stage, and . I was hating myself more than anyone ever could, but, if you want to know the whole

with everyone and their mother easily. I dated girls that I thought were just cool to hang out, most of
them acted like guys looking back at it when I think about it. I never had anything serious during
that age yet, neither did anyone else. I was a good at school, I had lots of friends, and had more

The Aeneid Analysis
Society tries to shape us, change us to make everyone around us more comfortable. Many people
struggle with their self–esteem because society is telling them that they are not good enough and
that they need to change certain aspects of themselves. Many people, teens especially, in the
LGBTQ community feel the need to hide major parts of themselves so that the people around them
feel more at ease or even so that they will be safe in their own home. In The Aeneid "Book IV,"
Dido felt like she had to be with men in order to be accepted by her own city. Virgil uses Dido's two
fake husbands to show that coming out is hard. Not only is the process of coming out very freeing, it
can also be very depressing. How will my friends and family ... Show more content on

One of the ways Anna played on Dido's emotions was by saying Dido would, "'Never to know sweet
children or the crown/ Of joy that Venus brings?'" (43–44). In this time period there was no way for
lesbian families to adopt or raise children without a male so Anna was trying to persuade Dido to
change herself so that she would be able to experience the joy of children. Anna was able to coax
Dido into staying in the closet for a little longer and marry another man. As a result of being told
how to live their lives, many people in the LGBTQ+ community sadly choose to end their lives.
People were telling Dido who to marry, why to marry them, and when they must marry. All of this
made Dido suicidal. In The Aeneid "Book IV" Virgil wrote that, "She prayed for death,/ Being
heartsick at the mere sight of heaven" (598–599). Dido saw no point in living if she was not being
honest with her loved ones and even with herself. Virgil wrote in "Book IV", "She cut a lock of hair.
Along with it/ Her body's warmth fell into dissolution,/ And out into the winds her life withdrew"
(940–942). Dido ended up ending her life because coming out was just too much of a burden on her
and the rest of her town. Although Dido's story is pretty heart wrenching, many men, women, and
teens experience something similar to Dido's ordeal in real life. In the article "The Closet:
Psychological Issues of Being In and Coming Out" on Psychiatrictimes.com, they state that, "It can

What Are Little Boys Made Of By An Unknown Author
What are women made of is it" ribbons and laces, and sweet pretty faces" (15–16) as portrayed in
the poem "What Are Little Boys Made Of" by an unknown author in the 1800s or is it something
more. This innocent poem seeks to portray women as gently and beautiful creatures incapable of
fighting. This stereotype has followed women throughout history and continues today with women
being excluded from combat positions within the United States military. Women fighting on the
frontlines is a topic that has stirred a lot of controversy in the last few years. This comes about from
the uplifting of the ban that prohibited women to fight in combat. Though the Women's Armed
Services Integration Act in 1948, created a corps for women in every ... Show more content on

They can join the Military but they can have no part in combat. This shouldn't be, qualifications for
being able to fight on the battle field should be based on whether or not the individual is physically
and mentally ready for war, the sex of the individual should not be the determining factor. Woman in
the United States are equal to men and the stigma that war is a man's thing, has created a lot of
controversy, especially in the society that we live in now. Women in our society are breaking away
from the limits set from the past generations; redefining what they are made of. Women are now
taking and seeking roles that were once considered only for men. Just like in our society, women are
trying to advance in the military. Advancing in the military, not only being able to fight in combat,
but also reaching some of the highest military rankings. The leap for women being able to fight in
combat came this past January, when the United States Department of Defense, uplifted the ban on
women being able to fight in combat. A woman representing her country by joining the military is
something that not only takes great sacrifice, but courage as well, and they deserve the utmost
respect. If women are willing to risk her life for the sake of her country, just like men, shouldn't they
be allowed to partake in combat? War is as much physical as it is mental. Opponents argue that
women are not made of the right stuff to succeed out in the battlefield. A male made

Personal Narrative: My Journey Through High Schools
LGBT Americans make up anywhere from one percent, or three million people, to five percent, or
16 million people, of the American population. Each of these individuals has had his/her own unique
journey through life. Sometimes this aspect of their identity can define their life; it can especially
shape their life in terms of what they experience. For instance, LGBT teens are three times more
likely to be bullied, 90 percent have been harassed at school, and more than 33 percent will attempt
suicide, which is four times more than our straight counterparts. The journey through high school
can be tough for LGBT students, but it can be just as enlightening, just like it has been for me. I

While my desire to come out was achieved, it brought unforeseen ramifications. For instance, even
though I came out, I was not able to be who I truly was. I was put into a role and stereotype.
Whenever I would try to break that mold and expose myself for who I was, my classmates would
turn on me and scold me for it. It would be questioned whether or not I was faking being gay for
attention and scholarships. Then, instead of fighting the mold, I exaggerated the role, becoming
overly stereotypical. For this too I was punished. There was no right ratio of myself to stereotype.
Another unexpected aspect of my high school life was the number of LGBT students there. Going to
an all–male school I expected more than three, including myself and one who isn't out publicly.
Thus, the isolation I felt in grade school never wavered. In theology class, we have endlessly learned
how lepers were both social and physical pariahs in Biblical times; after coming out, I empathized
with the lepers. An invisible physical barrier separated me from my classmates. My touch was
virulent and contagious. A brush of an arm or a tap on the shoulder were skewed as violations and
harassments. I was treated like a vile piece of trash. Coming out had backfired and there was way

Death Of A Salesman Short Story
There once lived two brothers, one of them was Willy and the other was Phelipe. Even though they
were brothers, both of them were very different from each other. Willy was a serious person that
always wore clean white clothes and likes to go to school. While, Phelipe was a goofy person that
wore dirty clothes and didn't like school. One day, Willy went to the museum and Phelipe went to
the arcade. When Willy went to the museum he saw a girl. The girl had all black clothes, black hair,
and black shoes. Willy went beside the girl and said,"That's a nice painting. All the colors go well

Critical Criticism Of Death Of A Salesman
Death of a Salesman is about a man that can't get passed his own ego. William, the salesman, is a
narcissistic untrustworthy man that has no values for his own wife. At the beginning of the play, we
can clearly see that Willy is this macho man that wouldn't accept his faults. His decaying state of
mind gives us even more evidence to argue his deficiencies. His wife, Linda, is always trying to
defend him against his own family, yet she unconsciously knows that her husband has some sort of
mental illness, such as dementia. Both his sons, Biff and Happy, are in today's society "normal"
citizens that are trying to change their world around and succeed. However, Willy sees this as a

At the very first few lines, we experience how badly Willy treats his wife. He seems used to be
"bothered" by her questions, yet he dislikes her obtrusiveness. Linda's resistance is what makes her
the perfect wife. In fact, she will defend her husband to any extend and even excuse his actions in
order to protect and leave intact her love towards him. She somewhat knows that Willy has cheated
on her, but refuses to accept it because she doesn't want to be left alone. During the 1940s, a
divorced woman was seen as disgraceful and being a widow was the better option of ending a
marriage. She says to Biff that "he's the dearest man in the world to me, and I wont have anyone
making him feel unwanted and low and blue (p.55)." Indeed, her love for her husband is very
appreciated even when he has cheated on her, yet this character lacks the self–love that one should
have if someone doesn't feel that he/she belongs. Throughout the play, we can see that the language
Willy uses towards Linda is often rude or even towards the limits of being offensive. He has no
respect towards Linda which is evident by him cheating on

The City By Armistead Maupin
The San Francisco of the 1970s is a city immersed in the counterculture movement: It encouraged
experimentation and tolerance for unconventional behavior, vices and eccentric politics. The culture
rejected the principles of mainstream society and espoused living for one's self. This philosophy of
life attracted people from all over the United States to travel westwards to San Francisco. The
promise of the counterculture fascinated people who were not satisfied with their current lifestyles.
They came to the city in the hopes of reinventing themselves. Individuals sought to scape their past
routines, to get away from the people and societies that burdened them. In the bohemian city, they
aspired to find a place to belong. The characters in Tales of the City, by Armistead Maupin, convey
these desires and frustrations in members of all social classes. The novel reveals the consequences
that come with reinvention. As portrayed by Maupin, San Francisco signifies both a chance for
liberation, and a life beset by secrets, whereby individuals are often haunted by their pasts. San
Francisco's culture allows for greater freedom, in part due to its sexual and gay liberation. In the
midst of the counterculture and the hippie movement, San Francisco becomes a city that is more
accepting of queer, unconventional behavior. Gays and lesbians come with the hope to live openly
as homosexuals. Michael Tolliver exemplifies this desire. He is a young gay man who leaves Florida
and his family

i got out of the car first and you wouldn't believe it there was Wishbone eating away at the scraps. I
ran over and quickly shut the barbed wire then i heard him whimper. I ran inside gots some meatloaf
and gave it to him. I was so happy. He had to sleep on the floor ,but in the morning i would bathe
him and teach him tricks. Today is Saturday so I have all day to work with Wishbone. Gus made a
collar for him and we were using a rope that hooked to the collar for a leash. First I called Howard's
house and then we both gave him his first bath (as far as we know). When we were done we taught
him tricks and he learned really quick. The next morning I got on my dress and went to church.
After church i went over to Howards. Me and Howard went down to the creek and put our feet in it.
Then we said something at the exact same time. I told him to lock pinkies with me and make a wish.
We both did then i said that if I guessed what he wished for it would still come true. He said ok and i
answered," I bet you wished you didn't have that up down walk." I saw his face and he looked hurt.

Reflective Essay About My Family
I never realized how hard it'd be to come out, especially to family members. I have yet to come out
to my parents, but I have to some of the other members of my family. My family isn't, let's just say
"not" that supportive of that community. Having have heard the many things they've said about how
they dislike the LGBTQIA+ community and people that are a part of it, I've still been scared to
come out to them; with the fear of them not wanting me, or disowning me. That fear lurks within
me, like a shadow that comes out during the night.
During these years after I found out about my sexual orientation and my gender orientation, thinking
of how i'd tell my parents is all that's been in my mind a lot. I'd sit for hours on end thinking about
it. The thoughts of it echoed around my head each and every time it was brought up. I've tried to
build up my confidence to come out to them, but it always ends up going downhill. When I said
downhill, I meant that I'd either run away when I'd get close to asking them and saying "Oh nothing,
nevermind." or I'd just think of ways around that idea and ignore it for days, months and even years.
However, i've come out to other family members as well. I've only come out to some of many
cousins that I have; other family members just found out because they're friends with me on
Facebook. The reason being is that in the past, I've posted things about one of my past relationships
on there and forgotten that I had family who can see them. The posts

Reflection On Nature
I have read several pieces of literature on nature, which has directed me to the understanding on how
nature and I are similar with the ability to adapt, be resilient , and persistence. During large–scale
obstacles that I have had in my life, I was able to adapt, be resilient, and be persistent. Having those
characteristics has pulled me through moving states and schools, coming out as bisexual, and the
loss of my best friend . Moving schools is a very difficile experience that showed how I am capable
of adapting. When I moved to washington from california, I was introduced to many new people
that were extremely different that me. It took a few months but I was still able to adapt to the new
people, just like the pythons did when in the everglades from Andrew Revkins blog. The pythons
and I were capable to adapt to our new environments and strive there. The school in washington was
teaching stuff that I hadn't learned yet in california. When I entered my math class, they started
talking about factoring and synthetic division. I showed persistence when I spent extra time learning
it at home and by going to tutoring, just like the wind kept savagely blowing everything on land
from Murakami's short story. The wind was persistently blowing furiously just as I had persistently
kept trying to understand the new material I was being taught. Moving schools was very difficult for
me but in the end, I had overcome, and found the new school to be much better. Coming out was an

Character Analysis Of All Summer In A Day By Ray Bradbury
" When men are full of envy they disparage everything, whether it be good or bad", a quote said by
Tacitus. Many people may not admit to being jealous, some many not even know it's there, but
we've all had that feeling once before. After reading the short story "All Summer in a Day" by Ray
Bradbury shows jealousy through a nine–year–old girl when she is challenged by other children who
doubt her. It had been raining for 9 years in Venus. The children living here have never seen the sun
in their lifetime. Margot on the other hand just moved to Venus five years ago and has seen the sun.
The children had enough of Margot so they locked her in a closet. The sun indeed came, the children
went outside and played for the first time in 9 years. After two hours of being at their happiest
they've ever been, the rain came down once again. Margot missed it all, when the children finally

Margot wasn't like any of these kids. She is smarter than the rest of the children and never lost hope
that the sun would come out. The children didn't treat her the same and certainly didn't see her as a

nothing else. They edged away from her, they would not look at her" (2). This is a prime example of
the children picking on Margot when all she is trying to do is waiting for the sun to come out. The
children were neglecting her because they tried to hide their jealousy by picking on her and making
her feel unwanted when really they all have the same dream. "Now she stood, separated, staring at
the rain and the loud wet world beyond the huge glass" (2). Once again the author, shows Margot
was alone and was separated from the group. The sun symbolizes happiness and peace that
hopefully the children and Margot get to

Alison Bechdel Fun Home Analysis
Alison Bechdel uses her graphic memoir, Fun home, to explore her relationship with her father. She
uses the book as a tool to reflect on her life and the affect her father had on her. She discovers how
her fathers closeted sexuality affected her childhood and her transition into adulthood. His death left
a powerful mark and left her searching for answers. She clearly states this when she says, "it's true
that he didn't kill himself until I was nearly twenty. But his absence resonated retroactively, echoing
back through all the time I knew him." (23). This feeling drove her to look back on their relationship
and find what binds her so strongly to a man she never understood. She discovered how her fathers
closeted sexuality affected her childhood, her sexuality, and her relationship with literature.
Bechdel opens the book with a scene of her playing with her father. She uses this memory of them
playing airplane (3) to describe the "normal" part of their relationship. This is contrasted by the
frequent outbursts she describes throughout her childhood. In chapter 1 she uses the film It's a
Wonderful Life as an analogy. She draws a parallel between George's rare outburst on his children to
the frequent outburst her father displayed as she grew up (11). This scene gives clear insight on how
the relationship with her father fluctuates between calm and strenuous. the inconsistences in their
relationship leads her question what connects her to her father. This dilemma is best

A Day At Home
It had been a fairly, nice day. Work wasn't to bad. My boss wasn't on my tail for not getting him a

table when I walked in the door. Jane, 9 years old, had a book in her hand like normal. Billy, 4 years
old, sat there picking at his scab. My husband came in with the last plate. Jason had been out of a
job for 9 months now, so he was the stay at home mom for a little while. I set my bag down on our
wooden table right beside the door. I walked over to the table said hi down and went to finish
helping my husband. When we were finished, I sat down to look all of my wonderful family in the
eye and see that today was a good day.
When supper was over, we sent the kids to go brush their teeth like we do every time after dinner. I
was helping my husband with the dishes after dinner. When we were done, the kids were in bed and
we had to go and tuck them in. We went and tucked Jane in. She was going to read a little before she
completely went to sleep. Jason, my Husband, left the room when he was done to use the restroom. I
then went to Billy's room to tuck him in. I sat down on the edge of the bed.
I said, "How was today?"
Billy replied, "It was fun. We did a lot of coloring. I colored a huge bear."
"Good I am glad you had fun with coloring." I said.
"Mommy?" Billy said.
I said, "Yes." Billy was now looking at the ceiling and pondering what he was going to say to me.

Tony Kushner's Angels in America Essay
Most of the characters in Tony Kushner's Angels in America struggle with their sexuality. Reflected
in this struggle, the homosexual characters are flawed to the degree at which they hide their
sexuality. Prior, Belize, Louis, Joe, and Roy all deal with this issue in the course of the play. Prior is
the least closeted homosexual while Roy is the most. Prior is chosen to be a prophet, is morally
upright, and represents good. Roy, the unlawful lawyer, represents evil. Belize, Louis, and Joe fall in
between Prior and Roy on the scale. By having these particular characters represent what they do,
Tony Kushner places a negative stigma on those in the closet and emphasizes his negative opinion
on closeted homosexuals.

Belize says, ?Consider it solidarity. One faggot to another? (Kushner 161). The word faggot is
typically regarded as offensive. Being able to call oneself by something that is considered offensive
generally indicates one?s comfortability level with who one is. Through Belize?s comfort level with
himself, his openness about his sexuality reveals itself.
Because Louis is in a relationship with Prior, one would not think Louis would be considered
uncomfortable with his sexuality or closeted; however, in the first few scenes, the audience sees
Louis hiding his homosexuality from his family. When he and Prior are at Louis?s grandmother?s
funeral, the two talk about how Louis does not like to be open around his family. Louis says, ?Sorry
I didn?t introduce you to?.I always get so closety at these family things? (Kushner 25), to which
Prior responds with, ?Butch. You get Butch. ?Hi Cousin Doris, you don?t remember me I?m Lou,
Rachel?s boy.? Lou, not Louis, because if you say Louis they?ll hear the sibilant S? (Kushner 25–
26). This conversation proves Louis?s insecurity about his homosexuality when among family
members. Because of this, Louis cannot be considered completely open with his sexuality.
Joe is definitely not comfortable with his homosexuality. His marriage to Harper confirms his
closeted–ness. In act two when Joe comes out to Harper, he flat out tells

Is Gay Ever Since The Age Of Ten?
I've known I was gay ever since the age of ten. I went to a Christian high school in Nicaragua and

that time was not an option for me. I always kept my sexuality at the back of my mind because it
would ruin my image of the Christian leader that I was to all the students who saw me in this

The film Mosquita y Mari directed and created by Aurora Guerrero is a coming of age story set
about Huntington Park in the southeastern part of Los Angeles. It uses tense scenery that seeks to
explore what it means to be in a romantic relationship versus a close friendship. Furthermore, upon
legitimizing Yolanda and Mari`s relationship the film provokes the audience to ask the question, "If
they are queer, what is keeping them in the closet?" This question is most effectively answered by
examining how Yolanda and Mari`s ethnicity, locational, and immigrant descendant identities

If this was not a sexually charged act of intimacy, then why are they worried about being caught?
This theme of what female intimacy is often portrayed in lesbian texts, for example the beginning of
Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Fienberg wrestles with what it means to be intimate with a lover. Ze
does this through the reoccurring descriptions about hir lover would take care of hir after traumatic
experiences with police, "You drove us home with my head in your lap all the way, stroking my
face. You ran the bath. Set out my fresh underwear. Put me to bed. Caressed me carefully. Held me
gently" (5). This is a stark contrast from the often overtly sexual images of queers couples, even in
films that are made for queer people. This overt sexuality when showing queer relationships is often
a result of queer people feeling as though they must validate their relationships with sexual contact.
An example of how this operates in real life is when young queer people who have no sexual
experience getting asked "How do you know you are really gay if you have never had sex with a
guy/girl?". Furthermore, both Stone Butch Blues and Mosquita y Mari portray queer responses to
living in a state that prevents queer people from being "out" of the metaphorical closet that the state
has shoved them in.
The "closeted" framework that the film is surrounded by causes the audience to inquire why Yolanda
and Mari choose not to be more public with their affection. The answer is a result of the

Gay Justice In Plato's Encouragement For Gay Rights
Plato's Encouragement for Gay Rights
In Plato's Republic, several competing explanations of justice are offered. First, we hear
Thrasymachus's account of justice in Book I, as being the advantage of the stronger. We then receive
Glaucon's explanation of justice in Book II: the agreement between men to act just in order to avoid
the pain of being on the receiving end of an unjust act. Finally, Socrates provides us with the best
definition of justice, saying that justice is the result of three specific classes performing their
function within a city in order for the collaboration to conclude in self–sufficiency. Socrates's
definition of justice outshines those of Thrasymachus and Glaucon because he takes into account
that not every person is the same, but everyone is equal. Socrates's refutations of both Thrasymachus
and Glaucon help completely shape his argument of what justice is when it comes to Book 4.
Socrates made his definition of justice general enough to where it accounted for everyone in the city.
As long as everyone performed the duty they were naturally capable of, they were just.
I am taking three explanations of justice mentioned in Plato's Republic to talk about the injustice
toward the gay community and my personal encounter of the unjust society with being seriously
involved with a woman of color. Ever since I was little, I knew I was attracted to the same sex, but I
remained too afraid to act on my feelings. I desperately desired to be accepted and considered

out to save him. Across the room, the closet door was slightly open, revealing the white shelves that
held his too–small clothes. There were shadows on the sky–blue walls from the dim light of the
hallway, and David thought they looked like jagged monsters reaching out to get him. As he glanced
back toward the oak door of his room, David's vision was blocked by two large boots with red wings
on them. Dirt had been tracked across the floor, appearing to make the shadow standing above his
bed even uglier. A large, calloused hand reached under the bed and roughly jerked David from under
it, and snatched David by his unwashed, dirty blond hair. "Get out here, you little twerp." A
bumbling voice growled, and David recognized the dreaded voice of his father, Denny Johnson.
David, dangling from his

I Would Become A Book By Colleen Hoover
If I were to "become a book" I would become the book Slammed by #1 New York Times bestselling
author, Colleen Hoover. Colleen Hoover self–published slammed on January 5th 2012; a book about
a girl named Layken Cohen, who moves from Texas to Michigan with her family after the passing
of her father, and is greeted with friends, messy relationships, bad as well as good times, slam
poetry, and a boy. Colleen Hoover's Slammed not only makes you rethink life, and teach lessons in
family and loss, but incorporates slam poetry in a creative and intricate way. Throughout the book
characters come together to make you think differently; and not just about love or family but about
all aspects of life. They make you question everything ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The relationships throughout the book show that you have to look at people like art, from all the
angles, before making a decision. There is a quote in the book. "Be accepting. Of everything.
People's differences, their similarities. Sometimes it takes a variety to make a good collection the
same goes for people." I believe this quote is valuable not only today's generation, but to future ones
as well. As a generation, we are still very judgmental. Its human nature. I believe this quote will help
future generations with becoming more accepting of people. It's essential that we become more
accepting of one another. Accepting of one another's flaws, choices, ideals, and that we accept these
characteristics of another's personalities to better our society, instead of letting them tear us apart. In
all Slammed not only teaches lessons in acceptance of people and their differences, but acceptance
of death as well.
Denial is another theme throughout Slammed. For example, Layken discovers that her mother is
terminally sick with cancer. Layken becomes so distraught that she denies that anything is wrong.
She does not inform her little brother Kel that their mother is sick, and they even go so far as to
come up with code words for their denial, "carving pumpkins." Layken, as well as several other
characters live in denial, denial about what they feel, denial about life, and denial about how it
inevitably ends. For Instance there is a quote in the book that emphasizes how people

The Story Of A Short Story : A Story
It was a dark sunday, jonathan was unpacking his items in his new house."uhh, this weighs a ton.",
he said to himself. When he finished everything he sat on his couch and drank a glass of coke. As
the day got darker he went to kfc to get food, he arrived home and took a bite he kept chewing and
chewing but he couldn't swallow it, it was as hard as rubber. The next morning he woke up feeling

saturday. So he followed the voice which led him to the closet where he never opened. The door
creaked open as if it was 100 years old. When he opened it the singing stop and there stood a jar.
When he picked up the jar jonathan felt a gust of wind hit him. On the jar it had three names on it,
Abigail, amber, and abree darrell. The jar was designed with flowers and many more drawings on it.
He opened the jar and out came three moths like rockets they went out the window that jonathan left

that were murdered by their step–father in 1936. He woke up every morning from the singing at

The Happy Hearts Fund By Petra Nemcova

  • 1. The Happy Hearts Fund By Petra Nemcova "We cannot stop natural disasters but we can arm ourselves with knowledge: so many lives wouldn't have to be lost if there was enough disaster preparedness."(Petra Nemcova) Disasters can happen in what seems like a moment. Some have time to prepare for what will come, while others suffer the effects. Petra Nemcova is one of the many helping to fix the effects of disasters and comfort those in need. She does this by founding the Happy Hearts Fund. This Fund rebuilds safe and resilient schools for towns impacted by disaster. Yet, in these situations the way individuals and the help react, helps to impact the outcome of the disaster. After a disaster strikes most people feel unprepared because they were never educated on those circumstances. "We have fears that we admit to openly and ones that we never discuss. We carry around this half–completed sentence, filling in the different scenarios depending on the anxiety of the times: I wonder what I would do if..."(Ripely xi). When those "what if" statements come true, most people deny what is actually happening. Therefore, individuals go through three stages when disaster strikes: denial, deliberation, and the decisive moment. "Real life doesn't usually follow a linear arc, or course. Sometimes the path to survival is more like a looping roller coaster, doubling up and back upon itself as we struggle to find the true north. But it's rare that anyone survives a disaster without pushing– or being pushed – through each of these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. A Day At Home It had been a fairly, nice day, and work wasn't to bad. My boss wasn't on my tail for not getting him a paper on time. It was supper time when I got home. The food was already set out and the kids at the table when I walked in the door. Jane, 9 years old, had a book in her hand like normal. Billy, 4 years old, sat there picking at his scab. My husband came in with the last plate. Jason had been out of a job for 9 months now, so he was the stay at home mom for a little while. I set my bag down on our wooden table right beside the door. I walked over to the table said hi down and went to finish helping my husband. When we were finished, I sat down to look all of my wonderful family in the eye and see that today was a good day. When supper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then I got down on my knees to check for monsters. What I didn't expect was to see a pair of glowing eyes staring back at me. I went ghostly white. This creature barely whispered, "Mommy, there is someone in my bed." I panicked, I didn't know what this thing was. It just was under there not moving at all. It was afraid I was going to do something to it. A million thoughts went through my head. I decided to call for Jason. He hurried into the room wondering what was going on. "Yes, honey?" "I want to show you this paint chip on the bed frame." I knew he would rush over because we came up with a password to warn each other of something important without alarming the children. He bent down next to me. I pointed at the things under the bed. He almost grasped before he caught herself. He panicked and looked at me. I couldn't tell from the lighting of the room but I knew he was going to call the police. He dialed the phone, "Excuse me, but there is something under my sons bed. More like another one of him. Please come to my house. I am not joking, this is something we don't know how to deal with." "Yes. We will be there shortly, if you could just stay calm and don't alarm the children. • 5. Literary Analysis Of All Summer In A Day Kids can be cruel when they are envious as shown in the short story, "All Summer In A Day," by Ray Bradbury. The sun is what makes Margot happy, and when that gets taken away from her. In this short story there is several acts of cruelty to Margot by her classmates. These kids live in the planet of Venus, and they haven't seen the sun in seven years, except for Margot. The kids are only nine years old so they haven't seen the sun since they were two years old, but Margot moved there from Earth when she was four and she remembers the sun and that makes the other kids envious. In the beginning of the story it is the day that the sun is supposed to come out for the first time in seven years! The kids were skeptical except for Margot because she wanted to see it so bad. The kids were starting to prepare for the sun to come out but they were sitting inside waiting. While they were waiting the kids decided to lock Margot in a closet and not let her out. When the sun came out all the kids ran outside to play in the sun that felt so warm and nice on their skin, except for Margot, who was sitting inside in the dark closet. When the kids came back inside they felt sorry for leaving Margot in there. Envy can lead people to commit awful acts and cause shame as demonstrated throughout the character's actions in, "All Summer In A Day." Margot gets treated cruelly by those in her class because they are envious of where she's from and her knowledge, or experience. Margot is nine years old, living on the planet Venus, where she moved from Earth, when she was four years old. Margot is the only kid in her class the remembers the sun and this makes all the other kids envious of her because when the other kids saw the sun they were only two years old but Margot was four which makes them jealous. When Margot was talking about the scientist predicting the sun would come out one of the boys said, "'All a joke... let's put her in a closet before the teacher comes back!'" (Bradbury 3). The kids are so envious or jealous of Margot that they want to lock her in a closet, right before the sun is supposed to come out because they don't believe it is. When the sun finally came out the children rush outside to enjoy nature and the sun, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Analysis Of The Book ' A Monster Calls ' Summary In the book "A Monster Calls" by Patrick Ness, Conor is a teenage boy who is in denial and happens to be living a pretty normal life. His life was fine until a monster suddenly showed up at his house in the middle of the night. The monster ends up telling Conor stories; stories that have hidden lessons. The monster beats and destroys a room filled with valuables in his grandmother's house and caused even more destruction to Conor's life. Conor is mad at the monster for not helping him with his problems – which seem to be on the outside. Little does he know, the problem is actually within him. Conor reveals a truth that had been hidden from everyone. And by finally revealing that truth, Conor is able to heal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Conor talks with his mother, she tells him about the treatment not doing what it's supposed to. Hinting that she might not make it. Conor can't face the fact that she might not live. His truth is something that he can't tell her, but he's faced with the reality that her treatments aren't doing their job. Even though she comforts him by saying they're going to try another treatment, the truth is right in front of him. Of all things, his mom isn't in her room. She had to move specifically to Conor's room for a reason not openly stated in the book. However, this can be interpreted as her finally starting to realize and face what's actually going to happen. The graveyard, after all, does represent the truth. She talks with Conor and only tells him half of the truth. She's in his room facing the graveyard, ultimately showing her the truth. She's struggling to reveal the truth to Conor, but she knows deep down what's going to happen. His mother was gazing out at the graveyard and tree beforehand, which hints at the trouble she is having in order to tell him she's dying. She doesn't even tell Conor her truth until later on. • 9. The Professional Athlete Of A Team Sport In 1975, after his retirement from the NFL, David Kopay was the first major professional athlete of a team sport to come out as a homosexual. Very few have followed after Kopay's example, but based on the percentages of individuals who identify as a member of the LGBTQIA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual) community, including those who have both come out and those who have not, it is assumed that 5% to 10% of NFL players are "closeted" and have not come out as homosexual (Garber, 1999). It is a common theme to see athletes, especially those who are part of a team sport, come out once they enter retirement, as opposed to sometime during their career. In fact, 2014 was the year Michael Sam became the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As of July 2014 this study, entitled "Out of the Fields", has interviewed and surveyed approximately 2500 Australians that included both heterosexual individuals and members of the LGBTQIA community (who the study refers to as "LGB people" for short). The initial key findings show that "85% of LGB people and 75% of heterosexual participants said they have witnessed or experienced homophobia in a sporting environment either playing or as a spectator", 64% of LGB people and 47% of heterosexual people agree or strongly agree that homophobia (in the form of comments, jokes, insults or abuse) is more common in team sporting environments than in the general society, and 50% of LGB people reported being a target of homophobia ("Out of the Fields", 2014). Results also show that verbal slurs like "fag, dyke, or poofter" were the most common form of homophobia, then homophobic jokes ranking as the second most common form, and finally casual comments like "that's so gay" ("Out of the Fields", 2014). The issue here is that admitted LGB people are being bullied to the point where participation in sport is unsafe and not worth the risk while closeted LGB people are scared into silence. Based on the critical theory, there is lack of fairness and sensitivity to diversity when it comes to LGB athletes. The goal is to improve the general population's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She's in his room facing the graveyard, ultimately showing her facing the truth. She's struggling to reveal the truth to Conor, but she knows deep down what's going to happen. His mother was gazing out at the graveyard and tree beforehand, which hints at the trouble she is having in order to tell him she's dying. She doesn't even tell Conor her truth until later on. • 13. Persuasive Narrative Essay About Friendships We waited. Those main doors were busy after the bells rang for 3:15pm. But nowhere in the crowd did we find Daniel. Which made sense, of course; probably still shaken from the picture. My friends and I had planned to beat David up after school. We were the most popular group in our grade, and no other groups were able to surpass us. But I will be completely honest, I did not want to do it. I tried every possible way to not have to hurt David. I swear! (looks at audience). I know what you're thinking. That I'm just saying this to cover up what I had done. But when you're with your group of friends, you have to look cool, keep your popularity. I mean how many of you wouldn't do something stupid if it meant losing all your friendships? See, that's how I felt. We waited for a while. He just wouldn't come out. Maybe he had gone through the back doors. But there was no way he would have, being so bold and confident with no one talking to him for the past few weeks since the picture was posted. He was actually happy; I could see it in him. I suggest to the group that he had left through the back doors, trying to avoid this once more. Everyone agrees and I feel a relief when all of a sudden, Daniel pushes the door and says, "I'll see you on the other side." Except this time, he looks scared. He walks out of the door and; all my friends dash towards him. I black out for a minute. My friends encourage me to come join them. Then something hit me... I remember all the times that I had ... • 15. I know more about her lifestyle and story than most would and it was difficult for her to figure herself out. Mae was very confused and distraught as she got older and she started to realize she was not the so called "normal" little girl. She had to learn to except herself before she could tell anyone or most importantly come out to her parents. As for Anna, I have no personal ties to her. Maeleigh met Anna this year at school; they both attend Manchester University and play on the softball team. They eventually got together and developed a relationship. Everything between the two is new and they are learning more about each others stories and how they dealt with coming out. Coming out is one of the most difficult aspects of being a lesbian. They have spent an extreme amount of time playing out in their minds how to tell this news to their parents. The scariest part, both have said, would have to be the thought of being rejected by their families. Maeleigh had known she was different from everyone since she was in 5th grade. She began to find herself having crushes on girls rather than boys. She said in 5th grade she was terrified, not knowing why she felt this way. Not knowing the reasons why she felt ... • 17. Character Analysis Of Hamlet William Shakespeare is one of the world's most renowned authors, who is especially known for his plays. One of his plays is Hamlet tells the story of a young educated prince, Hamlet, who comes home to his mother married to his uncle, in which he seeks to find the truth behind their relationship. Based on his actions, Hamlet is in fact experiencing a psychotic breakdown, but it is resulting from his act of being crazy. The other characters have noticed how Hamlet has changed since he has been back in Denmark and they attempt to analyze him. Horatio is the first to notice how Hamlet is acting now, and he suspects that it is not all coming from Hamlet himself. After Hamlet's conversation with the Ghost, Hamlet plans to get the truth of his mother's marriage. Horatio "assumes" that there is "some horrible form" that is causing Hamlet to want to go to the extremes he is about to take to find out the truth (I.iv.80). Of course, that horrible form Horatio was referencing was the Ghost, which was "[drawing Hamlet] into madness" (I.iv.82). Horatio warns Hamlet to be careful in following the Ghost's advice because it could lead him to do something that he would not ordinarily do. Hamlet's mother, the Queen, also believes that he is putting on a show. Hamlet is an emotional wreck because he has come back to Denmark following his father's death and his mother is married to his uncle, his father's brother. Hamlet feels that their marriage is disrespectful because his father had not been deceased long, and thinks his mother was moving off of emotion instead of logic. The Queen especially notices how Hamlet has started acting toward Ophelia. Ophelia is deeply in love with Hamlet; however, he does nothing but mentally abuse her to push her away. The Queen suspects that "Hamlet's wildness" is based off Ophelia's "good beauties" (III.i.43–44). The King also notices the new Hamlet and his actions toward Ophelia, but he does not believe that he is acting. The King and Ophelia's father, Polonius, watch Hamlet and Ophelia interact. The King notices how Hamlet does no vibe well with Ophelia, and he sees how it could come a problem quickly (III.i.176). The King believes that his actions were a result of his "madness" (III.i.178). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Something that made me unique or off. I didn't understand exactly what it was, but I knew it was something. At 13 years old, I had my first crush on a girl, and it was one of the most confusing times in my life. I did have the most wonderful parents ever, but I would frequently pick up on a homophobic slur or derogatory comment from my dad, school kids, and even my mom. They were never comments made with the intent to hurt me, but they were homophobic regardless, and for a kid who was struggling with identity, they hurt. As I grew up, I became really good at closeting things. The most commonly closeted items were my feelings. I internalized every thought, especially the gay ones. I tried to ignore my ... The discrimination against homosexual athletes in American sports is out of control and needs to be changed immediately. How would people feel being looked down upon being one of the only openly gay athletes in the United States? Before 2014 there was not any openly gay athletes currently playing professional sports in the United States. This shows the fear humans have when it comes to being honest about their sexuality because they know what the general public thinks about it. Discrimination is inhumane, especially when it comes to peoples beliefs. Sixty–five percent of females in the WNBA are homosexual, but are not discriminated against compared to the way male athletes are. Many gay athletes do not come out about their sexuality until after retirement because they fear what others will think. Discrimination is inhumane, especially when it comes to peoples beliefs. "Saying negative comments or slurs about someone's sexuality is just as bad as insulting a player about his or her race or religion" (Griffen, 2003). Somebody's belief are how they feel about their world and they should not be judged or insulted. The United States is a unique country and a great place to live, so why should we discourage other citizens when everybody's views are their own? And it wasn't like "wow, if I was gay I would date her," it was "I would date her in a heartbeat." These thoughts led me to discover that I, Elysia Wright, youngest in a family of 7 other half– and step–siblings, the only daughter my mum has ever had, was completely and utterly bisexual. Now, it wasn't a snap decision. I've had years to stew in my thoughts to confirm that yes, I am bisexual. There was just one problem. By October 11th, 2015, everyone knew of my sexuality. Everyone, that is, except my mum. My mum, who I have long been close to, who I have known longer than anyone in the world, was completely unaware of her daughter's attraction to people of the same gender. To tell the truth, I wasn't entirely sure why I hadn't told her. It's not like she would snap at me – heck, she's always supported me – but there was something holding me back, some deep–rooted fear, some monster under my bed that whispered bitter lies in my ear and told me that everything would not be okay, that I would not be okay, and for some stupid reason I listened to it. I couldn't put this off forever. I knew that. What was I going to do, introduce my mum to my girlfriend on our wedding day? College Admissions Essay: A Personal Experience Of Being Gay Growing up I was different from all the other boys; for example, during recess in elementary school most boys would elect to go play "Power Rangers", but I would always choose to play house with the girls. • 27. 'The Motorcycle Diaries, And Ernesto Guevara'sMilk' Instances of rediscovery, or reflection throughout a process of discovery, catalyse moments of reassessment that allow for a complete understanding of otherwise only half–formed initial discoveries. This is represented in both Ernesto Guevara's memoir The Motorcycle Diaries, and the biographical film Milk (2008), directed by Gus Van Sant, depicting the election of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay official in California. In both texts, moments of rediscovery catalysed by personal encounters allow for the reassessment of initial discoveries, whereupon they are understood more profoundly. In The Motorcycle Diaries, Guevara's discoveries of the devastating effects of US neo–colonialism in Latin America are only fully understood upon his rediscoveries of the equally harmful nature of not only tourism, but also his own vagabond traveling. Through their encounters with farm labourers, Guevara's initial discovery of the Araucanian race's "deep suspicion of the white man who... now continues to exploit them" is shown through the prominent motif of sharing mate, which highlights the early understanding between them. However, this understanding is expanded upon reaching Cuzco, where the symbolic juxtaposition of the three layers of the city emphasises his reassessment of how "a hesitant tourist [also] pass[es] over things superficially". Even further, in Guevara's encounter with the Chilean communist couple, graphic imagery accentuates his rediscovery of the "parasitic nature" of not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But then they always awoke to the tatting drum," (Bradbury, 1954). They would imagine the warmth of the sun, but only one child would remember and the others would forget once again. In the short story, "All Summer in a Day" by Ray Bradbury, it describes Venus where it is constantly raining and the sun never comes out leaving the planet with small amounts of of light. Margot, a young 9 year old girl lives on Venus with the small colony of scientists and their children. The other children were born on Venus and could not remember the sun, but Margot was not born there. She still has memories of the sun when she was on Earth, making her stand apart from the other children. As the other children recognized her differences, jealousy manifested within them. As the children are mindful of her experiences they would harass her and she would become depressed in her isolation. This is shown when the children deny her beliefs of the sun, push her around like she's nothing, and lock her in a closet when she has one chance to see the sun in 5 years. To start, Bradbury uses craft moves to display the children's denial and jealousy of Margot's description of the sun from her memory and experiences. The similes Bradbury uses helps describe what the sun is like from Margot's memory. " 'It's like a penny,' she said once, eyes closed. 'No it's not!' the children ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Imagine how you would feel if the world did not accept who you are as a person because you are different. Only because you didn't find the opposite sex attractive to you. In Jonathan Safran Foer's book Everything is illuminated we find out that Alex confesses his love for Jonathan near the end of the book as he becomes more comfortable with Jonathan. Why does Alex not tell Jonathan from the beginning? Is he uncomfortable being open that he is a homosexual? In the beginning of reading the book you read a letter from Alex and he describes himself to the reader he goes on talking about the things he likes and how he has many women that want to be with him and reading this you would think of him as a lady's man. "... Many girls want to be carnal with me in many good arrangements, notwith– standing the Inebriated Kangaroo, the Gorky Tickle, and the Unyielding Zookeeper. Alex seems to be a very confident person and outgoing. He seems to have a personality that is very "loud". • 35. Closeted Homosexuality Research Paper 3. Theory Discussion This paper is focused on exploring the reaction closeted homosexuals have towards gay marriage and whether they experience a more extreme, negative reaction towards it than those who are heterosexual. The theory here is that individuals who are closeted homosexuals, are closeted because they are experiencing some sort of rejection of their identity as being homosexual. Those who are closeted homosexuals are either unable to come to terms with their sexual orientation or, perhaps do not want others to know, and thus, react strong against homosexuality and any legislation which supports gay rights. A key aspect of this theory is repression. Homosexuals who suppress or hide their homosexuality are referred to as "closeted" homosexuals. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many people struggle with their self–esteem because society is telling them that they are not good enough and that they need to change certain aspects of themselves. Many people, teens especially, in the LGBTQ community feel the need to hide major parts of themselves so that the people around them feel more at ease or even so that they will be safe in their own home. In The Aeneid "Book IV," Dido felt like she had to be with men in order to be accepted by her own city. Virgil uses Dido's two fake husbands to show that coming out is hard. One of the ways Anna played on Dido's emotions was by saying Dido would, "'Never to know sweet children or the crown/ Of joy that Venus brings?'" (43–44). In this time period there was no way for lesbian families to adopt or raise children without a male so Anna was trying to persuade Dido to change herself so that she would be able to experience the joy of children. Anna was able to coax Dido into staying in the closet for a little longer and marry another man. As a result of being told how to live their lives, many people in the LGBTQ+ community sadly choose to end their lives. People were telling Dido who to marry, why to marry them, and when they must marry. All of this made Dido suicidal. In The Aeneid "Book IV" Virgil wrote that, "She prayed for death,/ Being heartsick at the mere sight of heaven" (598–599). Dido saw no point in living if she was not being honest with her loved ones and even with herself. Virgil wrote in "Book IV", "She cut a lock of hair. Along with it/ Her body's warmth fell into dissolution,/ And out into the winds her life withdrew" (940–942). Dido ended up ending her life because coming out was just too much of a burden on her and the rest of her town. Although Dido's story is pretty heart wrenching, many men, women, and teens experience something similar to Dido's ordeal in real life. Each of these individuals has had his/her own unique journey through life. At the very first few lines, we experience how badly Willy treats his wife. He seems used to be "bothered" by her questions, yet he dislikes her obtrusiveness. Linda's resistance is what makes her the perfect wife. In fact, she will defend her husband to any extend and even excuse his actions in order to protect and leave intact her love towards him. She somewhat knows that Willy has cheated on her, but refuses to accept it because she doesn't want to be left alone. During the 1940s, a divorced woman was seen as disgraceful and being a widow was the better option of ending a marriage. She says to Biff that "he's the dearest man in the world to me, and I wont have anyone making him feel unwanted and low and blue (p.55)." Indeed, her love for her husband is very appreciated even when he has cheated on her, yet this character lacks the self–love that one should have if someone doesn't feel that he/she belongs. Throughout the play, we can see that the language Willy uses towards Linda is often rude or even towards the limits of being offensive. He has no respect towards Linda which is evident by him cheating on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. The City By Armistead Maupin The San Francisco of the 1970s is a city immersed in the counterculture movement: It encouraged experimentation and tolerance for unconventional behavior, vices and eccentric politics. The culture rejected the principles of mainstream society and espoused living for one's self. This philosophy of life attracted people from all over the United States to travel westwards to San Francisco. The promise of the counterculture fascinated people who were not satisfied with their current lifestyles. They came to the city in the hopes of reinventing themselves. Individuals sought to scape their past routines, to get away from the people and societies that burdened them. In the bohemian city, they aspired to find a place to belong. The characters in Tales of the City, by Armistead Maupin, convey these desires and frustrations in members of all social classes. The novel reveals the consequences that come with reinvention. As portrayed by Maupin, San Francisco signifies both a chance for liberation, and a life beset by secrets, whereby individuals are often haunted by their pasts. San Francisco's culture allows for greater freedom, in part due to its sexual and gay liberation. In the midst of the counterculture and the hippie movement, San Francisco becomes a city that is more accepting of queer, unconventional behavior. Gays and lesbians come with the hope to live openly as homosexuals. Michael Tolliver exemplifies this desire. He is a young gay man who leaves Florida and his family ... • 51. Narrative Essay On Wishbone ... Bertha talked Gus into driving around and seeing if we could find Wishbone. Once the sun started setting we drove back home. I was pretty bummed that we didn't find Wishbone. Once we got home i got out of the car first and you wouldn't believe it there was Wishbone eating away at the scraps. I ran over and quickly shut the barbed wire then i heard him whimper. I ran inside gots some meatloaf and gave it to him. I was so happy. He had to sleep on the floor ,but in the morning i would bathe him and teach him tricks. Today is Saturday so I have all day to work with Wishbone. Gus made a collar for him and we were using a rope that hooked to the collar for a leash. First I called Howard's house and then we both gave him his first bath (as far as we know). When we were done we taught him tricks and he learned really quick. The next morning I got on my dress and went to church. After church i went over to Howards. Me and Howard went down to the creek and put our feet in it. Then we said something at the exact same time. I told him to lock pinkies with me and make a wish. We both did then i said that if I guessed what he wished for it would still come true. He said ok and i answered," I bet you wished you didn't have that up down walk." I saw his face and he looked hurt. He said we should head back to the house I sat there feeling really bad for what I said. • 53. Reflective Essay About My Family I never realized how hard it'd be to come out, especially to family members. I have yet to come out to my parents, but I have to some of the other members of my family. My family isn't, let's just say "not" that supportive of that community. Having have heard the many things they've said about how they dislike the LGBTQIA+ community and people that are a part of it, I've still been scared to come out to them; with the fear of them not wanting me, or disowning me. That fear lurks within me, like a shadow that comes out during the night. During these years after I found out about my sexual orientation and my gender orientation, thinking of how i'd tell my parents is all that's been in my mind a lot. I'd sit for hours on end thinking about it. The thoughts of it echoed around my head each and every time it was brought up. I've tried to build up my confidence to come out to them, but it always ends up going downhill. When I said downhill, I meant that I'd either run away when I'd get close to asking them and saying "Oh nothing, nevermind." or I'd just think of ways around that idea and ignore it for days, months and even years. However, i've come out to other family members as well. I've only come out to some of many cousins that I have; other family members just found out because they're friends with me on Facebook. The reason being is that in the past, I've posted things about one of my past relationships on there and forgotten that I had family who can see them. The posts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. Reflection On Nature I have read several pieces of literature on nature, which has directed me to the understanding on how nature and I are similar with the ability to adapt, be resilient , and persistence. During large–scale obstacles that I have had in my life, I was able to adapt, be resilient, and be persistent. Having those characteristics has pulled me through moving states and schools, coming out as bisexual, and the loss of my best friend . Moving schools is a very difficile experience that showed how I am capable of adapting. When I moved to washington from california, I was introduced to many new people that were extremely different that me. It took a few months but I was still able to adapt to the new people, just like the pythons did when in the everglades from Andrew Revkins blog. The pythons and I were capable to adapt to our new environments and strive there. The school in washington was teaching stuff that I hadn't learned yet in california. When I entered my math class, they started talking about factoring and synthetic division. I showed persistence when I spent extra time learning it at home and by going to tutoring, just like the wind kept savagely blowing everything on land from Murakami's short story. The wind was persistently blowing furiously just as I had persistently kept trying to understand the new material I was being taught. Moving schools was very difficult for me but in the end, I had overcome, and found the new school to be much better. Coming out was an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. Character Analysis Of All Summer In A Day By Ray Bradbury " When men are full of envy they disparage everything, whether it be good or bad", a quote said by Tacitus. Many people may not admit to being jealous, some many not even know it's there, but we've all had that feeling once before. After reading the short story "All Summer in a Day" by Ray Bradbury shows jealousy through a nine–year–old girl when she is challenged by other children who doubt her. It had been raining for 9 years in Venus. The children living here have never seen the sun in their lifetime. Margot on the other hand just moved to Venus five years ago and has seen the sun. The children had enough of Margot so they locked her in a closet. The sun indeed came, the children went outside and played for the first time in 9 years. After two hours of being at their happiest they've ever been, the rain came down once again. Margot missed it all, when the children finally came back they realized what a big mistake ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Margot wasn't like any of these kids. She is smarter than the rest of the children and never lost hope that the sun would come out. The children didn't treat her the same and certainly didn't see her as a friend. "He gave her a shove. But she did not move; rather she let herself be moved only by him and nothing else. They edged away from her, they would not look at her" (2). This is a prime example of the children picking on Margot when all she is trying to do is waiting for the sun to come out. The children were neglecting her because they tried to hide their jealousy by picking on her and making her feel unwanted when really they all have the same dream. "Now she stood, separated, staring at the rain and the loud wet world beyond the huge glass" (2). Once again the author, shows Margot was alone and was separated from the group. • 59. Alison Bechdel Fun Home Analysis Alison Bechdel uses her graphic memoir, Fun home, to explore her relationship with her father. She uses the book as a tool to reflect on her life and the affect her father had on her. She discovers how her fathers closeted sexuality affected her childhood and her transition into adulthood. His death left a powerful mark and left her searching for answers. She clearly states this when she says, "it's true that he didn't kill himself until I was nearly twenty. But his absence resonated retroactively, echoing back through all the time I knew him." (23). This feeling drove her to look back on their relationship and find what binds her so strongly to a man she never understood. She discovered how her fathers closeted sexuality affected her childhood, her sexuality, and her relationship with literature. Bechdel opens the book with a scene of her playing with her father. She uses this memory of them playing airplane (3) to describe the "normal" part of their relationship. This is contrasted by the frequent outbursts she describes throughout her childhood. In chapter 1 she uses the film It's a Wonderful Life as an analogy. She draws a parallel between George's rare outburst on his children to the frequent outburst her father displayed as she grew up (11). This scene gives clear insight on how the relationship with her father fluctuates between calm and strenuous. the inconsistences in their relationship leads her question what connects her to her father. When supper was over, we sent the kids to go brush their teeth like we do every time after dinner. I was helping my husband with the dishes after dinner. When we were done, the kids were in bed and we had to go and tuck them in. We went and tucked Jane in. She was going to read a little before she completely went to sleep. Jason, my Husband, left the room when he was done to use the restroom. I then went to Billy's room to tuck him in. I sat down on the edge of the bed. I said, "How was today?" Billy replied, "It was fun. We did a lot of coloring. I colored a huge bear." "Good I am glad you had fun with coloring." I said. "Mommy?" Billy said. I said, "Yes." • 63. Tony Kushner's Angels in America Essay Most of the characters in Tony Kushner's Angels in America struggle with their sexuality. Reflected in this struggle, the homosexual characters are flawed to the degree at which they hide their sexuality. Prior, Belize, Louis, Joe, and Roy all deal with this issue in the course of the play. Prior is the least closeted homosexual while Roy is the most. Prior is chosen to be a prophet, is morally upright, and represents good. Roy, the unlawful lawyer, represents evil. Belize, Louis, and Joe fall in between Prior and Roy on the scale. By having these particular characters represent what they do, Tony Kushner places a negative stigma on those in the closet and emphasizes his negative opinion on closeted homosexuals. Being able to call oneself by something that is considered offensive generally indicates one?s comfortability level with who one is. Through Belize?s comfort level with himself, his openness about his sexuality reveals itself. Because Louis is in a relationship with Prior, one would not think Louis would be considered uncomfortable with his sexuality or closeted; however, in the first few scenes, the audience sees Louis hiding his homosexuality from his family. When he and Prior are at Louis?s grandmother?s funeral, the two talk about how Louis does not like to be open around his family. Louis says, ?Sorry I didn?t introduce you to?.I always get so closety at these family things? (Kushner 25), to which Prior responds with, ?Butch. You get Butch. ?Hi Cousin Doris, you don?t remember me I?m Lou, Rachel?s boy.? Lou, not Louis, because if you say Louis they?ll hear the sibilant S? (Kushner 25– 26). This conversation proves Louis?s insecurity about his homosexuality when among family members. Because of this, Louis cannot be considered completely open with his sexuality. Joe is definitely not comfortable with his homosexuality. His marriage to Harper confirms his closeted–ness. In act two when Joe comes out to Harper, he flat out tells ... I went to a Christian high school in Nicaragua and was actively involved in leadership positions and volunteering jobs like translating, so coming out at that time was not an option for me. I always kept my sexuality at the back of my mind because it would ruin my image of the Christian leader that I was to all the students who saw me in this position of leadership. Since I started at the University of Waterloo, I was not as active in clubs like I was in high school. Consequently, the image that I was so used to displaying never went into effect during my first year; I could be whoever I wanted to be and no one would think either less or more of me. It uses tense scenery that seeks to explore what it means to be in a romantic relationship versus a close friendship. Furthermore, upon legitimizing Yolanda and Mari`s relationship the film provokes the audience to ask the question, "If they are queer, what is keeping them in the closet?" This question is most effectively answered by examining how Yolanda and Mari`s ethnicity, locational, and immigrant descendant identities intersect to keep them in the closet. The films framework is centered around the exploration of sexuality, and although it is subtle the film implies that the two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If this was not a sexually charged act of intimacy, then why are they worried about being caught? This theme of what female intimacy is often portrayed in lesbian texts, for example the beginning of Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Fienberg wrestles with what it means to be intimate with a lover. Ze does this through the reoccurring descriptions about hir lover would take care of hir after traumatic experiences with police, "You drove us home with my head in your lap all the way, stroking my face. You ran the bath. Set out my fresh underwear. Put me to bed. Caressed me carefully. Held me gently" (5). This is a stark contrast from the often overtly sexual images of queers couples, even in films that are made for queer people. This overt sexuality when showing queer relationships is often a result of queer people feeling as though they must validate their relationships with sexual contact. An example of how this operates in real life is when young queer people who have no sexual experience getting asked "How do you know you are really gay if you have never had sex with a guy/girl?". Furthermore, both Stone Butch Blues and Mosquita y Mari portray queer responses to living in a state that prevents queer people from being "out" of the metaphorical closet that the state has shoved them in. • 71. Gay Justice In Plato's Encouragement For Gay Rights Plato's Encouragement for Gay Rights In Plato's Republic, several competing explanations of justice are offered. First, we hear Thrasymachus's account of justice in Book I, as being the advantage of the stronger. We then receive Glaucon's explanation of justice in Book II: the agreement between men to act just in order to avoid the pain of being on the receiving end of an unjust act. Finally, Socrates provides us with the best definition of justice, saying that justice is the result of three specific classes performing their function within a city in order for the collaboration to conclude in self–sufficiency. Socrates's definition of justice outshines those of Thrasymachus and Glaucon because he takes into account that not every person is the same, but everyone is equal. Socrates's refutations of both Thrasymachus and Glaucon help completely shape his argument of what justice is when it comes to Book 4. Socrates made his definition of justice general enough to where it accounted for everyone in the city. As long as everyone performed the duty they were naturally capable of, they were just. I am taking three explanations of justice mentioned in Plato's Republic to talk about the injustice toward the gay community and my personal encounter of the unjust society with being seriously involved with a woman of color. The heavy footsteps drew closer, and David held his breath to try avoid detection. As the footsteps paused outside his door, David's heart began to pound with dread. His pounding heart made it hard to breath, and at only seven years old, David couldn't hold his breath for very long. It came out in a loud whoosh, and David shrank in terror as the footsteps beat like drums toward him. He had been found. The dusty hardwood bit into his shoulder as he tried to squeeze further under the bed. The legs of the lampstand seemed to wobble as the footsteps pounded closer. The spider–man comforter hung down like a hand reaching out to save him. Across the room, the closet door was slightly open, revealing the white shelves that held his too–small clothes. There were shadows on the sky–blue walls from the dim light of the hallway, and David thought they looked like jagged monsters reaching out to get him. As he glanced back toward the oak door of his room, David's vision was blocked by two large boots with red wings on them. Dirt had been tracked across the floor, appearing to make the shadow standing above his bed even uglier. A large, calloused hand reached under the bed and roughly jerked David from under it, and snatched David by his unwashed, dirty blond hair. "Get out here, you little twerp." A bumbling voice growled, and David recognized the dreaded voice of his father, Denny Johnson. David, dangling from his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is a quote in the book. "Be accepting. Of everything. People's differences, their similarities. Sometimes it takes a variety to make a good collection the same goes for people." I believe this quote is valuable not only today's generation, but to future ones as well. As a generation, we are still very judgmental. Its human nature. I believe this quote will help future generations with becoming more accepting of people. It's essential that we become more accepting of one another.
