Instructional Design Application Essay
I am so excited to learn more about the Senior Instructional Designer position! I sincerely hope that
you will find me to be a good fit for your Instructional Design team.
As a Lead Instructional Designer at Pearson, I have been thoroughly enjoying various collaborations
with university program leaders and building fruitful relationships with positive outcomes and great
rapport. I love being a liaison between the university and our rotating instructional design team. This
experience has proven to me that I thrive in the place of fostering creative designs, innovating new
work processes, organizing complex ideas into simple structures, and encouraging people I meet
with great respect and friendly support.
Prior to joining Pearson, I served as a Distance Learning Administrator at Biola University's Youth
Academics program, I had the great privilege of starting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I flourished in building close relationships with the Faculty (SME's): together we developed learning
materials, I provided training, support and research findings on online pedagogy & best practices.
Faculty loved research–based learning designs and we bonded on that common ground. While I was
there, we also migrated from Blackboard to Canvas LMS, and I learned to shift from various LMS's
and evaluated many pros and cons. (Now using Custom Moodle LMS at Pearson) I would
absolutely love to design a new customized LMS in the future someday.
As an educator, I've become intimately familiar with adult learners, as I have taught in the
community colleges for several years with a diverse student population in Southern California.
Moreover, I have been an adjunct professor at Vanguard University for nearly a decade. I have
earned series of excellent evaluations from the students of Business and Nursing programs and built
many years of rewarding relationships with the administrative leaders

Cost of College
Argumentative Essay
Ever since you were little, your parents have been talking about this wonderful thing called college.
They told you that you have to go there to get an education before you can get a good job. Many
kids have dreamed of going to college, and being able to get the job of their dreams. By putting in
hard work and dedication to good grades in high school, you had high hopes that you would be able
to get into an Ivy League school. The American dream of being able to go to college to get a degree
is sliding away from many people due to rising costs. With increasing tuition prices and job loss, the
college dream is slowly and surely slipping away from many students and their families.
The first step in the college ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With lack of financial aid students are not going to be able to afford college on their own. They are
relying on their parents to help them, but is there anything they can do?
In order to get a decent paying job, you have to have a college degree. Many people will not be able
to go to college full time because they have to work part–time or full–time to be able to afford
college and can not move on to a higher paying job with out it. Low income students have always
struggled with college bills. Financial and political forces are making it harder than ever to get a
college degree, which is crucial to getting a high paying job (Philadelphia Inquirer, 1). It is
extremely difficult to get a job and go to college full or part time, just to have a higher paying job.
Many students hope to avoid a soaring loan debt. They work long hours; take courses part–time and
are commuting to college rather than living on campus. These compromises greatly reduce chances
of earning a college degree in a timely manner if at all (Philadelphia Inquirer, 1). As a result,
students must rely on even larger loan debt to get through school. Many students have to put off
getting their degree and some never go back to get it.
Graduation rates have dropped because of the size of debt that students acquire while at school.
Students nowadays are expected to pay all of their tuition with no help. The economy is in
horrendous shape and

Why College Athletes Shouldn't Be Paid
Why Not to Pay College Athletes After numerous scandals over the past several years of college
athletes receiving improper benefits, the question has come up whether or not college athletes
should be paid or not. College sports are a growing industry, and we have seen money destroy
organizations, teams, and players in this industry. The determination and motivation of college
athletes supersedes professional athletes by their will to win; therefore, college athletes should not
be paid. The law that prevents college athletes from receiving money is called Title IX. Title IX was
passed in 1972, and states that all money should go equally for all sports and no team should be
excluded. Originally this law was created to preserve equal ... Show more content on

"Likewise, almost all NCAA championships "lose money." However, overall NCAA revenue,
primarily derived from the Association's media agreements and the popularity of the Division I
Men's Basketball Championship, helps 400,000 student–athletes at more than 1,000 member
institutions learn and compete in 23 sports and 88 national championships" (NCAA 2). Most
colleges typically lose money on most of their sporting teams, and with the income from the few
sport teams they are able to provide for other students. Since a lot of colleges are losing money in
the industry, they wouldn't be able to pay the athletes if they don't generate revenue. This would
cause students to go to colleges that make money knowing they would be getting paid, compared to
a college that doesn't have financial stability to pay athletes. College would not be college anymore.
The universities would become franchises and inevitably turn into a smaller version of the NFL. The
law Title IX makes it mandatory for each team to provide the same amount of benefits to each
student. From the incomes to these few sports, the less popular sports at schools would be cut
because they do not have enough revenue coming in to pay the players. "("Student–athletes generate
billions of dollars for universities and private companies while earning nothing for themselves.")
This is indisputably untrue. Student–athletes earn free tuition, which

Torrey Honors Institute
My ethnographic research paper is about Biola University's Torrey Honors Institute. I decided to
research on this topic because I am really interested in this liberal honors program and in Torrey
students' academic life. I noticed that most Biola students do not know much about Torrey students.
Normal Biola students will stereotyped Torrey students and consider them to be intellectual elitists,
since the Torrey program is an honors program. Therefore, I wanted to do research on Torrey
Honors Institute not only because of my interest, but also because I want to reveal what is the
program truly like in order to prove my viewpoints to my audience. My ethnographic research paper

During the observation, each Torrey student shows their passion of literature and their desire of
learning lessons from literature. This ethnographic research project was challenging because it was
my first time preparing and doing actual interviews by myself. It was also my first time to observe

SUBJECT: Comparison/Contrast Analysis
"Redefining Fitness for Health and Fitness Professionals" and "College Eating and Fitness 101: A
Guide for College Students" are two articles that discuss fitness and nutrition. Their topic matter
may be the same, but the way they approach their discussion and the information they include are
quite different. "Redefining Fitness for Health and Fitness Professionals" is a scholarly article that
uses an eloquent tone, researched statistics, and a complicated format. "College Eating and Fitness

"Redefining Fitness for Health and Fitness Professionals" was published in Lorman, Mississippi in
2001 by Alcorn State University. The article was written by Ph.D A. Akande and his colleagues, C.
Van Wyk, and J. Osagie. The twelve pages are filled with significant research and include more than
twenty outside sources. "College Eating and Fitness 101: A Guide for College Students" was
published in Boston in 2005 by The Center for Young Women's Health. The article was written by
the Children's Hospital League. The attractive couple pages contain interesting facts and appealing
graphics. Although both articles are written in concern with fitness, the context of the two varies in
accordance with their targeted audiences.
Style of each article
The styles of the two articles follow suit with their appropriate audiences and therefore, have a
difference in style. "Redefining Fitness for Health and Fitness Professionals" is set up in a more
complex style. The language choice used is for people on a more professional level with higher
education. The sentence structures are more complex and include a significant amount of detail. The
writing is formal and uses eloquent speech. On the other hand, "College Eating and Fitness 101: A
Guide for College Students" uses a straightforward style. The language choice is much more
simplistic and can be easily understood.

College Athletes Should Not Be Exempt from Regular Class...
Many college athletes miss classes because of practice, competition and from exhaustion.
For those reasons, supporters argue for exemption of athletes from class attendance policies.
Others argue that college athletes are given scholarships to attend college to play sports. On the
contrary, the focus of colleges is educating students. The question is, should colleges athletes be
exempt from the class attendance requirements? The answer is no and here is why. First, the
education of athletes takes priority over recreational activities. Second, it is unfair for athletes to
receive preferential treatment. Third, exempting athletes from the policies does not allow them to
develop time management skills. For these reasons the college ... Show more content on

After all, athletes are not born they train hard to get their skills and do remarkably on the court. The
philosophy here is athletes must work equally hard in the classroom. (Emma) stated in "A College
Perspective on Academic and the Student Athlete."
Coach & Athletic Director "As more eyes open to the athlete's challenges and struggles, more ideas
and strategies will emerge to help them succeed not only in–between the lines of the playing field or
court, but in the lecture halls, science labs, and classrooms as well." Thus, education is a key
element that produces academic achievers, tomorrow's leaders and balance adults. Given these
points, the student athletes must recognize the importance class attendance.
For the longest time it has been known that student athletes often miss classes. Moreover, athlete
miss classes to attend practice, take part in competition and from exhaustion. Also, some athletes are
going to leave college early and enter professional sport. Consequently, they skip classes and slide
through college. Of course, colleges with attendance policies requires students to attend classes a
certain amount of time and so should the athletes. Whenever athletes miss classes their academic
performance is usually affected. As a matter of fact, it is difficult for them to keep up the grades
required for them to keep the scholarship reward and stay on the team. By the same token,

The Higher Price of Higher Education
The High Price of Higher Education In America's society today, students are expected to follow the
path of day care, grade school, middle school, high school and hopefully college. Growing up in
America today, the importance of education is stressed starting at the earliest stages of development.
In a world with a competitive job market and with citizens who want to make the most money that
they can, a college education is key in success. For some students, financing college is not a
problem. Money should not be a factor in the student's decision–making process when choosing
what school to attend, but unfortunately many people are unable to attend the university of their
choice due to the high costs. Working through college is not ... Show more content on

If this is the case then there should be documentation of these increases but, "academic institutions
have made little effort either on or off campus to make themselves transparent to explain their
finances," (Tuition Rising). There is no documentation that describes what every penny of tuition
pays for. It is only stated that it goes toward "administrative costs, faculty salaries, technology,
Federal regulation, endowment, State appropriations," (Tuition Rising). But why are the costs
rising? Patrick M. Callan, president of the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education,
states that "there's not much going on in either private or public higher education that is very serious
about cost control," (Tuition Rising). He believes that "Underlying all this is that more kids are
graduating from high school every year, most of them want to go to college, and so it's a seller's
market. Universities raise tuition because they can,"(Tuition Rising). This makes us wonder if
universities are tricking us of our money since they have not documented where tuition is going. In
order to avoid confusion from students and parents who want answers, the government should
require institutions to have documentation of what tuition is funding.
Financial aid is a popular choice for students to fund their college education, which presently costs
an average of "$15,566 for an undergraduate student

What Is College Worth It?
College, is it really worth it? Some say yes, some say no. Some have not even gone to college, and
the reason for that, is the ridiculous amount a person has to pay, endure, and live through.
"On average, a college graduate with a bachelor's degree earned $30,000 more per year than a high
school graduate..." (Is College Education Worth It?). Usually that sounds grand and would also
make somebody very ecstatic yet, learning the other side of the story might make you cringe. Within
nine, to ten years, student debt has risen about ninety–percent since 2003. Around sixty–percent of
the students that graduated in 2011, have a debt that is nearly sixty–percent of their yearly income.
With debt that high, it may result in late payments (which increase

Pros and Cons of Attending College Essay examples
Is College Worth It? In Life today a college education is no longer an option or privilege, but rather
it is a necessity. We are raised to believe that a person needs higher education in order to succeed in
life. There is a saying, "if you think education is expensive, try ignorance." You may ask is college
necessary? There are people out in the real world that have never set a foot on a college campus
before and they are doing better than others that have their master's degree. There are many views
from both sides that have a good argument. The main reason people go to college is because they
were always told you will have a better life if you go to college. Kids are pressured to feel that the

They do not want to be looked down upon in the eyes of society so they do what they think is best.
The idea to become a productive person in society is that you must have some sort of college
education. Being a college student is seen as more respectable, rather then being a garbage man or
janitor because of the way society looks down upon these types of careers. Going to college and
receiving a degree does not guarantee that a person is going to get a job right after they graduate. It
is sometimes hard for some graduates to find a good job because there is so much competition with
other graduates as well. Sometimes they may get a job and it could be in a totally different field of
what they got their degree for. They must find a job though to pay off all the debt that an education
has given them. Many students feel that some classes are a waste of time and money because they
learn nothing about their chosen field. They have to take classes that have nothing to do with their
major but must take the class to meet the core education requirement of the college. If these students
receive a less than average grade in a class they feel is unneeded then that lowers their overall GPA.
The major reason of going to college is to get a good job. College prepares us with academic
knowledge in order to succeed in the future. Many people think that a higher education is essential
to prepare a person for their future. As

A Significant Issue in Education: Teacher BIAS
A significant problem of practice in education is teacher bias. Teacher bias has implications around
race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality and socioeconomic status. Teachers must be willing to examine
their beliefs, acknowledge and overcome their biases. Teachers need to evaluate their practices in
relation to their ideals as well as recognize and assess the position of power they hold in their
classrooms in order to be true Social Justice Educators (Cooper, 2003).

Schools rarely look at the effectiveness of the White teacher in relation to the Black student.
The student of color who survives this system and enters College continues to face issues around
bias, stereotyping and oppression on predominantly white campuses. The issues range from student
to student bias, faculty to student bias, as well as racial profiling from police on and off campus.
Many colleges and universities have created Bias Acts Response Teams (BART). Some examples
BART has dealt with on campus include:
Faculty members whose intent is to bring a student of color into the classroom conversation ends up
asking the student to speak for their entire race.
Faculty member asks a Japanese American student about the conflict in Korea.
A student feels their contributions concerning the African American experience are disregarded.
Faculty members who are interested in offering assistance to a student whose native language is not
English ends up offending the student by making assumption about their citizenship.
Students in a classroom have a debate around race and one student says something that is offensive
or reinforces a stereotype and the instructor says nothing.
Students report that they are excluded from joining groups for group projects.

My Strong Latino Accent Is Important For Our Unique...
It was one said by Napoleon Hill that, "Strength and growth come only through continuous effort
and struggle." Truly, haven I not experience the many challenges that the year of 2015 had for me, I
would probably not have been allowed do growth in areas that I least expected. One particularly
challenge that arose in 2015, has been the most emotionally wounded, and yet difficult to embraced;
and truthfully I have continuously been in effort to overcome. My strong Hispanic accent is
something that I inevitably could not erase however, the various comments that come with my way
of verbally expressing has often made me feel insignificant, and incompetent at times. Conversely,
with the help of one of my professor at Biola University, I have come to learned that ascents should
not diminish our unique capabilities that we have within ourselves. Moreover, I have gained an
aspect of being open–minded, and surrounded myself in activities that involved expressing verbally.
Truthfully, this particularly challenge made me fruitful personally and professionally. Personally, I
have been able to seek areas of improvement and have taken the harsh remarks as a source of
motivation to strive to become both a better person and a better scholar. As to the professional
aspect, I have learned that often in the professional world individuals may not be of accordance with
a certain idea or, they might even seek to discourage ones ideas, but one should not see their
comments as a discouragement,

In addition, internships are also very competitive; many opportunities may be available through
campus job in one's field. Federal and state governments award "work–study" funding to all colleges
and universities (McGuire). Campus jobs can be great for someone who wants to minimize driving
expenses. Next, many general skills one may learn in college are essential to success. For instance,
public speaking is a great skill to have. The ability to speak clearly and persuasively in front of
people is one of the most important skills anyone can obtain. Dustin Wax explains, in the article "10
Skills You Need to Succeed at Almost Anything," that for many jobs, public speaking could be an
important role. In addition, writing is an important skill for all subjects. Writing well offers many
advantages. For example, good writers may excel at selling products and their ideas. Someone with
a good sense of grammar has the advantage over one who does not. Finally, self–management is a
key skill for a promising future (Wax). Balancing factors of one's life will dramatically enhance the
output of one's future. Next, the simple fact is that some careers require a degree. Now this may
range anywhere from an associate degree to a master's degree. Some examples that require a two–
year degree are dental hygienists, pharmacy technicians and paralegals. To be qualified to be a

With living costs as high as they are in this day and age, it is completely unreasonable to expect the
average individual to squander already limited resources. Receiving a bachelor's degree today
requires an assortment of classes that often are not directly related to one's career objectives. For
some, they find this to be an enjoyable adventure, broadening their knowledge and learning about
new aspects of life, but for others this is just burdensome. However it is looked upon, the college

Or for the individual who find one's true interest, general education is more than worth the two years
it takes to get through. So although the couple of years a college student spends in general education
may seem useless, it is important to recognize the value of it. It helps individuals by showing them
an array of possibilities that should be explored before one decides on his or hers life's career. It also
builds interesting people who are not just specialists, but who have a better understanding and
appreciation for the world around them. Even though, as explained previously, general education is
valuable it does create stress for the student who is set on his/her major. For many students,
especially those who go to state universities, the probability of graduating with a bachelor's degree
in four years is highly unlikely. For those students who have to fight to get into the classes they need
to graduate, general education is a villain. The victim of this system can't see the importance of
taking a variety of courses. Zinsser recognizes this problem in his essay "College Pressures," which
talks about the stresses that college students face. He quotes a dean of Yale University talking about
his students: "They ought to take chances. Not taking chances will lead to a life of colorless
mediocrity. They'll be comfortable. But something in the spirit will be missing." (452)

increased as a higher education has become more attainable for the average person. However, in
recent times the trend of an increasing enrollment has faded away. This decrease in college

Mathew Bidwell, a professor at the Wharton University of Pennsylvania has found that "About

accurate? Empowerment Through Online Education
In a 2007 report published by the Sloan Consortium, most universities stated that the main reasons
they continued to expand their online education programs were because such programs improved
student access to education. For example, when universities offer courses online, they can work
around limited classroom space, instructor shortages, and conflicting course schedules to offer more
students more classes. Similarly, in taking an online course that allows them to complete
assignments at their own pace, students can work around their busy course and work schedules, as
well as tailor their coursework to their own personal learning styles. Students increasingly enroll in
online courses over their summer break while they live with their parents and work summer jobs.

this act mandates the central government to advance money to the public universities for running of
the programmes and activities. The government gives grants to the public universities and this
money is budgeted for, in the ministry for higher education budget and this is captured in the annual

government through the parliament passed a bill that saw the creation of the Constituency
Development Act that was aimed to rationalize development across the country by ensuring that all
areas across Kenya had a fair share of the money set aside for development. Through the various
committees established in each constituency, students in the universities are able to access bursaries
to aid them in paying school fees. This bursary is given to people who are needy and who cannot

people, two countries, or how something or someone has changed. When comparing two things, we
focus more on the similarities though we may mention the differences shortly. When contrasting two
things, we point out the differences between them. The most important point to consider while
planning a comparison and contrast essay is choosing comparable items. e.g. Middle East Technical
University and Bogazici University. We have to make sure that these two items have enough points
to be compared. After writing the comparable points as a list, location, size, reputation, ... Show

Causes Of Rising Student Debt
For many in the middle class student debt has a strong and relentless grasp on their economic future.
In their article "Why Free Higher Ed Can't Wait" Jeje Biola and Belinda Rodriguez state that,
"Student debt has reached a record total of over $1.3 trillion" (6). This has left many people
wondering where this is coming from and wanting change. This number is just too high in the minds
of the average American. In the last few years free college tuition has been a hot topic in American
politics, as recently as the 2016 presidential race. Candidates such as Bernie Sanders and Hillary
Clinton proved to be a huge push for free tuition. The raising college tuition rates effect all
Americans in some form or fashion, so support is quickly rising especially ... Show more content on

These have been hot topics for sometime now but little seems to have happened so far in regards to
legislation and actual action. In the eyes of many free college is nothing more than a dream at the
moment and who could blame them, for alas the government is taking their time, in no hurry to
swiftly respond to the pleas of citizens. However there was a plan in the works that Catherine Morris
describes in her article "Pay It Forward". She states, "Obama proposed funding Americas College
Promise to the tune of $60 billion and paying for it with a series of taxes – including one
controversial and short–lived proposal to tax 529 college savings plans " (13). This shows that the
government has some willingness to approach the issue, but most likely they have found that it is
going to be more difficult than imagined to apply reform in this area. Another plan that is currently
in use and has a controversial funding method is the Tennessee Promise which supports college
students who are going to attend community colleges for shorter lengths such as two years. The gray
areas start to come in with the funding. Scholarships for four year students are cut to help students
who will be in college for less time and who will subsequently acquire more debt. Despite these
criticisms they are a step in the right direction even if they lay on some unsteady framework.

Why College Education Is Important to Me
"Why college education is important to me". By Janelle D. Crichlow EN110 Achieving Academic
Excellence Ashworth College A college degree is important for a variety of reasons for both the
young and the old, namely to develop or improve one's trade skills, to experience different cultures
and to increase one's educational background in order to attain a higher paying job. For me, a
college degree is important because it will help me to attain the educational background I need to
make myself more marketable in the ever changing workforce. It will also provide me with the
confidence and skills needed to apply for a better paying job or aid me in attaining the ever elusive
promotion, if I so desire. John G. Ramsay, a professor at the ... Show more content on

For me personally, the college degree obtained will aid me in being able to better complete the tasks
to which I am assigned at work. It will also give my boss actual evidence that I have the necessary
skills needed to be promoted to a higher and better paying position. A college degree will give me
the knowledge base I need to compete in the workforce. College life makes it possible for students
to meet and be acquainted with people from all works of life and to possibly build work contacts
with these people later in life. It provides students with access to differing cultures, personalities and
attitudes and provides students with the playground to learn to handle them. Due to the fact that a
college student is exposed to varying subject matters, both in and out of his faculty, a student can
demonstrate to his employee that he is better equipped to handle learning new concepts since he is
more "well rounded" and knowledgeable in different areas, both in and out of his job scope. The
efficiency at making and completing short, medium and long term goals, displayed by the student,
allows the employer to ascertain how effective the employee will be at setting and achieving his
goals and how effective he will be with time management and multitasking. In conclusion, a college
degree will provide me with the hope and means of attaining the heights I intend to reach in my
workplace. It will provide me with the confidence and peace of mind that I can take

1. More and more students have to pay for college on their own, or with little assistance from their
parents. Learning how to live on one's own and today's complicated financial world is stressful, and
it's no wonder that some students would rather drop out and get a job rather than continue studing. 2.
All the academic activities–clubs, jobs, teams, grades, assignments, classes a student has to
accomplice form a big" ball" of stress. 3. Managing time can be quite stressful for anyone as busy as
the modern day college student. Many students lose sleep or feel as if they just don't have enough
time to accomplish what they need to accomplish. 4. Roommate conflict is almost the first one that
comes as starting life on campus. College students are forced to live with people who may have
different values, beliefs, schedules, and habits than they do. There's nothing worse than having to
sleep in the same room as someone you'd normally hate or never talk to. 5. Many relationships are
started (and ended) throughout college years. Those who are in relationships have to deal with the
stresses of arguments, seeing someone too much, seeing someone not enough and those pesky long–
distance relationships. Transition Now that we have covered all the essential sources of stress it will
be most appropriate to continue with the effects of the stress.

The food on Biola University is all provided by Bon Appetite. In the beginning, I did not know that
Bon Appetite's food was Certified Humane so I decided to show support of humane treatment of
animals by going on a vegetarian diet. Since I could not go off campus to buy Certified Humane
groceries nor could I really afford buying healthy groceries, I decided to go vegetarian. I did the
vegetarian diet for two weeks and obtained protein through nuts, beans, and peanut butter. When I
was participating in the diet, I realized how common meat was a part of the dishes served for
breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It was often a central part of a dish, and meat was always served for
every meal. While protein is an essential part of a healthy diet, the amount offered is more than
needed. After this exercise, I am willing to consider giving up chicken or pork. I also definitely
suggest going on a vegetarian diet for at least a week or two to experience what it is like. I gained a
broader perspective when I did this diet and learned how vegetarians got their protein, why
vegetarians did their diet, and obtained a common ground to discuss about with vegetarians or
vegans. I find that a vegetarian diet is a lot easier than a vegan diet. Perhaps one should participate
in a vegetarian diet for a week and then a vegan diet for another week. In addition, to fully
understand the purpose of such diet and effects of such diet, one should perhaps journal their
experience, note down what they would

Good Will Hunting and Bell Hooks' Keeping Close to Home Essay
Going off to college is probably one of the best things a person can do to further their education.
The promise of a degree from a university seems achievable but is shadowed with the many
challenges that come with a higher edification. Often many college students find themselves
bothered by these obstacles which can determine whether the college student succeeds or not. There
are many endeavors in college but it depends on how the student reacts to these situations.
This synthesis will examine the motion picture Good Will Hunting and an essay by an author Bell

Throughout these sessions the promise of a higher education or success is shadowed by the
aggression that Will Hunting has to over come. Very defensive and isolated Will Hunting is
befriended very slowly by Sean McGuire to open up his emotional problem and to let them go. Will
Hunting's inability to trust, love and communicate handicaps him to do well in life with careers and
relationships.
In the essay entitled Keeping Close to Home: Class and Education, the author Bell Hooks tells of
her struggles when she goes off to the prestigious college Stanford University at the age of 18.
Coming from a working low class economic background hooks deals with ridicule from her family
and the difficulties of adjusting from a lower class to a higher class setting at Stanford. The dilemma
that Hooks' face with her family is; she states, "My parents had not been delighted that I had been
accepted and adamantly opposed my going so far from home" (p. 161). Reason for this adamant
feeling was that Hooks was brought up during a period when women didn't really leave the house to
go to school. It was unheard of to leave a small town in the south and go to a big college out in the
west. Especially if Hooks was going to be by her self her parents did not like the idea that she would

An Innocent Man Wronged in Oleanna Essay
Sometimes there are events in our lives that we cannot control. These events occur, more or less, due
to our own actions. Sometimes, however, we must come to terms with our inability to handle certain
situations and also to reach our goals. These events are facts of life everyone: some people can't run
as fast, or lift as much, or write as well. It is during these times that we must focus on what we can
do well, and try to direct our goals around those features that make us good at something. In David
Mamet's Oleanna, John loses his job and his house due to Carol's ignorance, lack of self–confidence,
and overall inability to come to terms with her own short–comings as a student. This play

John and Carol are having a conversation about various topics and John tries to get Carol to express
some kind of opinion on the subject:
John: Well, let's address that. What do you think? Carol: I don't know. John: What do you think,
though? (pause) Carol: I don't know.
That exchange of dialogue on page 29 sums up Carol's lack of self–confidence. She won't even take
the plunge, and try to talk about a subject brought up in class. John tries to get her to give an opinion
on a subject that carol obviously doesn't understand, in an attempt to help her comprehend. Carol
doesn't believe that she has any ability, or else she would have at least tried to answer his question, a
question that isn't hard in and of itself to understand––What do you think? Other examples of her
total lack of self–confidence can be found earlier in the play: "...and I walk around. From morning
'til night: with this one thought in my head. I'm stupid (12)." What kind of person thinks of
themselves as stupid, all the time? Carol obviously has no confidence in her abilities to do anything,
and she feels that everyone around her thinks she's stupid as well. On the very next page even, Carol
accuses John of calling her stupid. She is so deliberate in her belief that she takes what John says out
of context, and turns it into an insult against her. Carol

My Reality Check Essay
My Reality Check
Two things didn't mix well in my life. One was being a full time student and the other an athlete.
It was great not having parents around telling you to do your homework or to go to class, of which I
never did. I had a choice, which was more important, playing lacrosse or studying. Like any first
year college student I picked lacrosse. At that point I didn't realize what I was getting myself into.
Who at that age would know either?
My worst nightmare came true in the summer of 1989. I was academically dismissed from the
university. I thought to myself "no way, this could never happen to me, I played lacrosse, had a
girlfriend, and I was popular, how could this have happened". The worst part of the whole ... Show

This proved to be beneficial, for I received a 3.67 grade point average for that semester. That spring

I proceeded to reapply back to my former university and was accepted. I gradated with over a 3.0 in
my major and was offered a job in Washington D.C.
Being dismissed from college was one experience that I have never regretted and never will. I can
see why this happened; I was a student athlete, which doesn't mix. Being an athlete in college I had
to practice Monday through Saturday, I was always tired, too tired to study and go to class. I did
learn a couple things though, sportsmanship, self–discipline, teamwork, cooperation, and
concentration. Too bad none of these attributes rubbed off on my schooling. The university said that
they would help me out with my schoolwork but that was just a lie, one in which they still use today.
The school put me into these "easy" classes which didn't teach me anything except how to fall
asleep in class. The university was only worried about winning games and being nationally
recognized. They didn't help me when I was doing poorly and even after I was dismissed.
After being dismissed I realized a few things, one that the university only cared about my money,
another was that everything I did I did for someone else, and that I was accomplishing

The Importance Of College Education
There are a handful of achievements one unlocks during their quest through life, whether it be
starting a new job, getting married, or having a child. One of the most significant of them is
graduating from college. When an individual walks across the stage and is handed the key to life,
they are able to open the doors of many opportunities. Not only do students leave college with an
education, but with other hidden skills. For instance, college graduates become more employable
individuals, are exposed to a diverse environment, and are subjected to extra support and guidance
from people who will help them achieve their goals. Leaving college with more than one went for,
in itself, is a reason a college education is worth it. For one, those who acquire a college education
are more employable than those who do not because jobs requiring college degrees are increasing.
According to Tony Carnevale, director of the Georgetown University Center on Education and the
Workforce, "educated workers are becoming increasingly valuable for two reasons, the first being
that most lower–skilled jobs are being shipped overseas, and the second being that computers have
started to do much of the ordinary, repetitive work"(Media). This means jobs like doctors and
lawyers will always be needed, and these jobs require higher level degrees. Also, employers are
looking for individuals who have college degrees because it shows more than the fact they have an
education, but that they are driven,

Some may say that is not a huge difference, but people with a degree can find a job easier. African

Life at a Medieval University
Life at a medieval university for clerics was in many regards similar to our present day college
experience. When college was in session, life was basically split into two categories; life in the
books, and life outside the books if you will. Scholars needed to focus their attention to the tasks at
hand during learning hours. As we know today, the more time you spend studying, the better grades
you'll achieve. On the other hand, scholars needed a release from the daily grind of constant
academic involvement. This may have included some popular pastimes such as drinking, gambling,
and wreaking havoc downtown (nothing a modern student would do). The scholars experienced
many of the problems that modern day collegians deal with as well. ... Show more content on

If you were at a university at this time, you would follow the religious standards, just as I could
never get out of going to Friday mass at HGA. Nowadays, religion is a touchy topic. It is left to the
discretion of the individual whether or not he or she wants to follow the practices and how closely.
Church and state are now separated as to avoid major conflicts. Peter Abelard questions the
theological teachings of medieval universities and is criticized for it. He says "Is God one, or no?"
At this time scriptures were not to be questioned and were considered to be true. As we know now,
science has become a major source of answers in society. Anyway, Abelard brings a whole new
dimension to the table when he questions god's existence and some of the things that the church
stands for. The whole basis is to use logic and reason to ponder things in a philosophical fashion.
This faith vs. reason debate involved Abelard and others who felt that god was in a persons being, or
heart. Academia took up most of the students daily and weekly lives. Scholars took full advantage of
down time to relax and enjoy themselves. Social life was the second major aspect of a cleric's
university experience. As we know, the student body greatly impacts the surrounding town's
economy; however social issues arise as well. When students and townspeople are in the same
atmosphere, and drinking, fights are bound to break lose. These battles came to be known

The Reasons of Plagiarism
Identify the main reasons why university students plagiarise in English speaking countries. Present
an argument and support with evidence from academic sources
Part 1
Plagiarism is the act of using another's work without appropriate acknowledgement, is often
grouped with other cheating behaviour such as taking notes into an exam, fabricating a bibliography,
lying about personal circumstances to get special consideration and other similar actions. There is a
significant and growing body of literature on plagiarism in higher education( Park, C. 2003)
This essay will show the reasons why students plagiarism and state different argument in different
views by people . and believe that lacking of high standard of study attitude is main reason ... Show

Most student who have attended top university are relied their insistent hard working through years.
"I never plagiarism not because of avoid punishment just because I don't want to cheat myself ." 2rd
year graduate, Physics . Mily from Oxford Univerisity.
But situation in some relative low quality University is quite different. For example, a study by Lim
and See (2001) based in Singapore, which they describe as 'one of the most competitive educational
systems in the world', found that students
'are morally ambivalent about academic cheating and are rather tolerant of dishonesty among their
peers. On the issue of whether cheating behaviors should be reported...a majority of students chose
to take the expedient measure of ignoring the problem rather than to blow the whistle on their peers'.
Motivation not only important in University but also in future working area . the reason less adult
cheating than student is they not only have strong motivation but also take plagiarism seriously .
they realize they are truly participating in the society and nonsense to do such cheating thing .
For example , many studies have shown that academic staff and students have very different
attitudes towards cheating and plagiarism (Stern & Havlicek, 1986; Anderson & Obershain, 1994;
Roth & McCabe, 1995; Higbee & Thomas, 2000). Evans & Craig (1990) uncovered general
agreement between high school students and staff that cheating is a serious problem, but

College Is a Waste of Time and Money Essays

Essay # 1 Summary
September 10, 2011 Caroline Bird's essay "College is a Waste of Time and Money" explains her
beliefs on why, for some people, going to college is an ineffective and inefficient use of their time.
She states that many students do not belong in college because they are there for the wrong reasons
and they are not happy learning. She also gives evidence to suggest that going to college and getting
a degree does not actually allows a person to make more money in their life time. Her final claim is
that college does not prepare most students for the real world and the jobs they will have once they
graduate. Bird believes most students are not in college for ... Show more content on

Bird's second point is that, contrary to popular belief, college is not the best monetary investment a
young person can make. Bird explains this by comparing the money that would be spent on
education versus money that is put in a bank for interest. The outcome shows investing money that
would otherwise be spent on a college education would earn over half a million dollars more than
the earnings of a male college graduate compared to a non–graduate. Bird also states that even if a
graduate makes more money in their job than a non–graduate, there is no evidence that the higher
income is due to their college education. She attributes financial success to luck rather than a college
education. In this argument she mainly puts forth logical reasons why college is not for everyone.
She shows actual dollar amounts that logically prove an education is not necessarily the most
profitable investment. Bird's final point is that college does not prepare most people for the jobs they
are going to have in the future. She states the work attached to most jobs is totally unrelated to their
college education. For example, although there are many graduates with a psychology degree, there
are only so many jobs in psychology. The remaining graduates are forced to find jobs with work
unrelated to the degree they have obtained. Also, she brings up the point that college does not make
people intelligent and successful, but successful and intelligent people go to

Instructional Design Application Essay Insights

  • 1. Instructional Design Application Essay I am so excited to learn more about the Senior Instructional Designer position! I sincerely hope that you will find me to be a good fit for your Instructional Design team. As a Lead Instructional Designer at Pearson, I have been thoroughly enjoying various collaborations with university program leaders and building fruitful relationships with positive outcomes and great rapport. I love being a liaison between the university and our rotating instructional design team. This experience has proven to me that I thrive in the place of fostering creative designs, innovating new work processes, organizing complex ideas into simple structures, and encouraging people I meet with great respect and friendly support. (Now using Custom Moodle LMS at Pearson) I would absolutely love to design a new customized LMS in the future someday. As an educator, I've become intimately familiar with adult learners, as I have taught in the community colleges for several years with a diverse student population in Southern California. • 3. Cost of College Argumentative Essay Ever since you were little, your parents have been talking about this wonderful thing called college. They told you that you have to go there to get an education before you can get a good job. Many kids have dreamed of going to college, and being able to get the job of their dreams. By putting in hard work and dedication to good grades in high school, you had high hopes that you would be able to get into an Ivy League school. The American dream of being able to go to college to get a degree is sliding away from many people due to rising costs. With increasing tuition prices and job loss, the college dream is slowly and surely slipping away from many students and their families. The first step in the college ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With lack of financial aid students are not going to be able to afford college on their own. They are relying on their parents to help them, but is there anything they can do? In order to get a decent paying job, you have to have a college degree. Many people will not be able to go to college full time because they have to work part–time or full–time to be able to afford college and can not move on to a higher paying job with out it. Low income students have always struggled with college bills. Financial and political forces are making it harder than ever to get a college degree, which is crucial to getting a high paying job (Philadelphia Inquirer, 1). It is extremely difficult to get a job and go to college full or part time, just to have a higher paying job. Many students hope to avoid a soaring loan debt. They work long hours; take courses part–time and are commuting to college rather than living on campus. These compromises greatly reduce chances of earning a college degree in a timely manner if at all (Philadelphia Inquirer, 1). As a result, students must rely on even larger loan debt to get through school. Many students have to put off getting their degree and some never go back to get it. Graduation rates have dropped because of the size of debt that students acquire while at school. Students nowadays are expected to pay all of their tuition with no help. • 5. Why College Athletes Shouldn't Be Paid Why Not to Pay College Athletes After numerous scandals over the past several years of college athletes receiving improper benefits, the question has come up whether or not college athletes should be paid or not. College sports are a growing industry, and we have seen money destroy organizations, teams, and players in this industry. The determination and motivation of college athletes supersedes professional athletes by their will to win; therefore, college athletes should not be paid. The law that prevents college athletes from receiving money is called Title IX. Title IX was passed in 1972, and states that all money should go equally for all sports and no team should be excluded. Originally this law was created to preserve equal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Likewise, almost all NCAA championships "lose money." However, overall NCAA revenue, primarily derived from the Association's media agreements and the popularity of the Division I Men's Basketball Championship, helps 400,000 student–athletes at more than 1,000 member institutions learn and compete in 23 sports and 88 national championships" (NCAA 2). Most colleges typically lose money on most of their sporting teams, and with the income from the few sport teams they are able to provide for other students. Since a lot of colleges are losing money in the industry, they wouldn't be able to pay the athletes if they don't generate revenue. This would cause students to go to colleges that make money knowing they would be getting paid, compared to a college that doesn't have financial stability to pay athletes. College would not be college anymore. The universities would become franchises and inevitably turn into a smaller version of the NFL. The law Title IX makes it mandatory for each team to provide the same amount of benefits to each student. From the incomes to these few sports, the less popular sports at schools would be cut because they do not have enough revenue coming in to pay the players. "("Student–athletes generate billions of dollars for universities and private companies while earning nothing for themselves.") This is indisputably untrue. Student–athletes earn free tuition, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For those reasons, supporters argue for exemption of athletes from class attendance policies. Others argue that college athletes are given scholarships to attend college to play sports. On the contrary, the focus of colleges is educating students. The question is, should colleges athletes be exempt from the class attendance requirements? The answer is no and here is why. First, the education of athletes takes priority over recreational activities. Second, it is unfair for athletes to receive preferential treatment. Thus, education is a key element that produces academic achievers, tomorrow's leaders and balance adults. Given these points, the student athletes must recognize the importance class attendance. For the longest time it has been known that student athletes often miss classes. Moreover, athlete miss classes to attend practice, take part in competition and from exhaustion. The Higher Price of Higher Education The High Price of Higher Education In America's society today, students are expected to follow the path of day care, grade school, middle school, high school and hopefully college. Growing up in America today, the importance of education is stressed starting at the earliest stages of development. In a world with a competitive job market and with citizens who want to make the most money that they can, a college education is key in success. For some students, financing college is not a problem. Money should not be a factor in the student's decision–making process when choosing what school to attend, but unfortunately many people are unable to attend the university of their choice due to the high costs. If this is the case then there should be documentation of these increases but, "academic institutions have made little effort either on or off campus to make themselves transparent to explain their finances," (Tuition Rising). There is no documentation that describes what every penny of tuition pays for. It is only stated that it goes toward "administrative costs, faculty salaries, technology, Federal regulation, endowment, State appropriations," (Tuition Rising). But why are the costs rising? Patrick M. Callan, president of the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education, states that "there's not much going on in either private or public higher education that is very serious about cost control," (Tuition Rising). He believes that "Underlying all this is that more kids are graduating from high school every year, most of them want to go to college, and so it's a seller's market. Universities raise tuition because they can,"(Tuition Rising). This makes us wonder if universities are tricking us of our money since they have not documented where tuition is going. In order to avoid confusion from students and parents who want answers, the government should require institutions to have documentation of what tuition is funding. Some have not even gone to college, and the reason for that, is the ridiculous amount a person has to pay, endure, and live through. "On average, a college graduate with a bachelor's degree earned $30,000 more per year than a high school graduate..." (Is College Education Worth It?). Usually that sounds grand and would also make somebody very ecstatic yet, learning the other side of the story might make you cringe. Within nine, to ten years, student debt has risen about ninety–percent since 2003. Being a college student is seen as more respectable, rather then being a garbage man or janitor because of the way society looks down upon these types of careers. Going to college and receiving a degree does not guarantee that a person is going to get a job right after they graduate. It is sometimes hard for some graduates to find a good job because there is so much competition with other graduates as well. Sometimes they may get a job and it could be in a totally different field of what they got their degree for. They must find a job though to pay off all the debt that an education has given them. Many students feel that some classes are a waste of time and money because they learn nothing about their chosen field. They have to take classes that have nothing to do with their major but must take the class to meet the core education requirement of the college. If these students receive a less than average grade in a class they feel is unneeded then that lowers their overall GPA. The major reason of going to college is to get a good job. Truly, haven I not experience the many challenges that the year of 2015 had for me, I would probably not have been allowed do growth in areas that I least expected. One particularly challenge that arose in 2015, has been the most emotionally wounded, and yet difficult to embraced; and truthfully I have continuously been in effort to overcome. My strong Hispanic accent is something that I inevitably could not erase however, the various comments that come with my way of verbally expressing has often made me feel insignificant, and incompetent at times. Conversely, with the help of one of my professor at Biola University, I have come to learned that ascents should not diminish our unique capabilities that we have within ourselves. Moreover, I have gained an aspect of being open–minded, and surrounded myself in activities that involved expressing verbally. Truthfully, this particularly challenge made me fruitful personally and professionally. Personally, I have been able to seek areas of improvement and have taken the harsh remarks as a source of motivation to strive to become both a better person and a better scholar. As to the professional aspect, I have learned that often in the professional world individuals may not be of accordance with a certain idea or, they might even seek to discourage ones ideas, but one should not see their comments as a discouragement, ... In the beginning, I did not know that Bon Appetite's food was Certified Humane so I decided to show support of humane treatment of animals by going on a vegetarian diet. Since I could not go off campus to buy Certified Humane groceries nor could I really afford buying healthy groceries, I decided to go vegetarian. I did the vegetarian diet for two weeks and obtained protein through nuts, beans, and peanut butter. When I was participating in the diet, I realized how common meat was a part of the dishes served for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It was often a central part of a dish, and meat was always served for every meal. While protein is an essential part of a healthy diet, the amount offered is more than needed. After this exercise, I am willing to consider giving up chicken or pork. I also definitely suggest going on a vegetarian diet for at least a week or two to experience what it is like. I gained a broader perspective when I did this diet and learned how vegetarians got their protein, why vegetarians did their diet, and obtained a common ground to discuss about with vegetarians or vegans. I find that a vegetarian diet is a lot easier than a vegan diet. Perhaps one should participate in a vegetarian diet for a week and then a vegan diet for another week. Often many college students find themselves bothered by these obstacles which can determine whether the college student succeeds or not. There are many endeavors in college but it depends on how the student reacts to these situations. Coming from a working low class economic background hooks deals with ridicule from her family and the difficulties of adjusting from a lower class to a higher class setting at Stanford. The dilemma that Hooks' face with her family is; she states, "My parents had not been delighted that I had been accepted and adamantly opposed my going so far from home" (p. 161). Reason for this adamant feeling was that Hooks was brought up during a period when women didn't really leave the house to go to school. Sometimes, however, we must come to terms with our inability to handle certain situations and also to reach our goals. These events are facts of life everyone: some people can't run as fast, or lift as much, or write as well. It is during these times that we must focus on what we can do well, and try to direct our goals around those features that make us good at something. She won't even take the plunge, and try to talk about a subject brought up in class. John tries to get her to give an opinion on a subject that carol obviously doesn't understand, in an attempt to help her comprehend. Carol obviously has no confidence in her abilities to do anything, and she feels that everyone around her thinks she's stupid as well. My worst nightmare came true in the summer of 1989. I was academically dismissed from the university. • 71. The Importance Of College Education There are a handful of achievements one unlocks during their quest through life, whether it be starting a new job, getting married, or having a child. One of the most significant of them is graduating from college. When an individual walks across the stage and is handed the key to life, they are able to open the doors of many opportunities. Not only do students leave college with an education, but with other hidden skills. For instance, college graduates become more employable individuals, are exposed to a diverse environment, and are subjected to extra support and guidance from people who will help them achieve their goals. Leaving college with more than one went for, in itself, is a reason a college education is worth it. For one, those who acquire a college education are more employable than those who do not because jobs requiring college degrees are increasing. According to Tony Carnevale, director of the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, "educated workers are becoming increasingly valuable for two reasons, the first being that most lower–skilled jobs are being shipped overseas, and the second being that computers have started to do much of the ordinary, repetitive work"(Media). This means jobs like doctors and lawyers will always be needed, and these jobs require higher level degrees. When college was in session, life was basically split into two categories; life in the books, and life outside the books if you will. Scholars needed to focus their attention to the tasks at hand during learning hours. As we know today, the more time you spend studying, the better grades you'll achieve. On the other hand, scholars needed a release from the daily grind of constant academic involvement. This may have included some popular pastimes such as drinking, gambling, and wreaking havoc downtown (nothing a modern student would do). The scholars experienced many of the problems that modern day collegians deal with as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is left to the discretion of the individual whether or not he or she wants to follow the practices and how closely. Church and state are now separated as to avoid major conflicts. Peter Abelard questions the theological teachings of medieval universities and is criticized for it. He says "Is God one, or no?" At this time scriptures were not to be questioned and were considered to be true. As we know now, science has become a major source of answers in society. Anyway, Abelard brings a whole new dimension to the table when he questions god's existence and some of the things that the church stands for. The whole basis is to use logic and reason to ponder things in a philosophical fashion. This faith vs. reason debate involved Abelard and others who felt that god was in a persons being, or heart. Academia took up most of the students daily and weekly lives. Scholars took full advantage of down time to relax and enjoy themselves. College Is a Waste of Time and Money Essays Hayley Drummond Professor Dill Tuesday, Thursday 8:00–9:15 Essay # 1 Summary September 10, 2011 Caroline Bird's essay "College is a Waste of Time and Money" explains her beliefs on why, for some people, going to college is an ineffective and inefficient use of their time. She states that many students do not belong in college because they are there for the wrong reasons and they are not happy learning. She also gives evidence to suggest that going to college and getting a degree does not actually allows a person to make more money in their life time. Her final claim is that college does not prepare most students for the real world and the jobs they will have once they graduate. Bird believes most students are not in college for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bird's second point is that, contrary to popular belief, college is not the best monetary investment a young person can make. Bird explains this by comparing the money that would be spent on education versus money that is put in a bank for interest. The outcome shows investing money that would otherwise be spent on a college education would earn over half a million dollars more than the earnings of a male college graduate compared to a non–graduate. Bird also states that even if a graduate makes more money in their job than a non–graduate, there is no evidence that the higher income is due to their college education. She attributes financial success to luck rather than a college education. In this argument she mainly puts forth logical reasons why college is not for everyone. She shows actual dollar amounts that logically prove an education is not necessarily the most profitable investment. Bird's final point is that college does not prepare most people for the jobs they are going to have in the future. She states the work attached to most jobs is totally unrelated to their college education. For example, although there are many graduates with a psychology degree, there are only so many jobs in psychology. The remaining graduates are forced to find jobs with work unrelated to the degree they have obtained. Also, she brings up the point that college does not make people intelligent and successful, but successful and intelligent people go to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
