The affordable care act (ACA) was implemented in 2010, the idea behind the ACA was to help
millions of Americans secure affordable health care insurance coverage and slow the rising cost
of healthcare. Throughout its implementation the affordable care act has had several reform
initiatives in the years 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. This research paper will take a brief look at the
affordable care act as well as an initiative for each of those years.

considered to be a highly politicized mandate the mandate was implemented based off the need to

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) strives to improve the quality of the lives of Americans. The most
current healthcare policy that endorses the ACA, is the ObamaCare initiative that has received a fair
share of both support and criticism. (Hwang, et al. 2013) talks about the "Effects of the integrated
delivery system on cost and quality". According to the authors, most people criticize the American
healthcare system because of its complexity, high cost and excessive fragmentation. The same
scholars confirm however that the fragmentation and the provision of various services, benefit
different people that require healthcare attention. The article focuses on several advantages of the
integrated healthcare delivery systems (IDSs) in the United States. Furthermore, the scholars identify
existing gaps, which include the various arguments of current health policy experts that have
endeavored to discuss health policy issues in America. Americans can also access health care
services through virtual technologies, which allow them to have different electronic health record
databases. (Hwang, et al. 2013) uses relevant materials from peer reviewed and non–peer reviewed
articles to describe the fluctuating nature of healthcare service delivery in America. Conclusively, the
authors agree that the virtual systems create room for accountability, academic research in healthcare

With the affordable care act, interventions have been initiated that suggest significant impact;
however, there are variances among the populations that provide hurdles to the ease of implanting
them. While some populations may benefit from the ability to obtain insurance, better standards of
care, or access to community centers, playgrounds, and sidewalks, other populations may not utilize
these opportunities or facilities.

was established in order to address essential issues within the US health system such as the high and
rising cost of care, inadequate access to health insurance and health services and the diminished
quality of care.1 Although this law was intended to help millions of Americans, many Americans are
being effected by this same law. As a future physical therapist, there are many issues with this law
that are bothersome in contemplating my future in a small outpatient privately owned clinic. Under
the ACA, telehealth is a new electronic service used to communicate and provide clinical services as
well as other types of health information.2 In rehabilitation, the goal of telehealth is to deliver
physical therapy services, over large and small distances. It may be used to provide health education
and advice, communicate patient reminders, monitor clinical status, or deliver interventions.2
Overall, the goal of telehealth is to deliver effective health care information within the United States.

Under the Affordable Care Act, more patients are becoming eligible forhealth insurance. With the
influx of patients, private practices are spending less time with patients and more time with filling
out paperwork to satisfy government requirements, all with the mandated intention of improving
patient care.4 With this, I worry that as a future therapist, I will not be able to give my patients the
one–on–one therapy and time that they deserve. If my patients do not get the therapy they deserve,
I will simply be wasting their time and will not be practicing properly under my code of
