Fingernail clubbing or nail clubbing in ancient times called known as Hippocratic fingers
because Hippocrates was first to identify this has a disease. Nail clubbing forms swelling at
the joint where nail meet cuticle to form an angle, clubbing of nail increases that angle.

As you see these most of them are related to either lung or heart. If you see your nails
clubbed (fingernails or toenails) then mostly you’re affected by these above diseases. Few
more diseases are also discussed like, gastrointestinal (where gastrointestinal tract gets
affected) and malignancies. So this no more a joke! You’re risking your life if you delay
treatment.

clubbed nails (they can be treated), now let’s look at few symptoms by which we can
confirm fingernail clubbing.
You see the angle cuticle and nail plate increases.
Nail bed softens, it seems like nail plate is floating on it.
Swelling of fingernail tip.
Downwards curving of nails.
Will not be painful but can be warm
Because of tissue under nail plate become thicker nails plate becomes wider. Decrease in
amount of oxygen in blood also one reason for this.
How it can be treated?
First you (Doctor will) check the underlying reason of nail clubbing. Like is it because of any
lung disease or heart disease then accordingly it will be treated. Once the main root cause
disease is treated you will get back you normal good looking nails.
