Is a stereotype that refuses to change
when presented with information
indicating the stereotype is
inaccurate.
Scapegoating an extreme form of
prejudice.
THE HALO EFFECT
ATTRIBUTION
Refers simply to how people explain the
cause of another’s or their own
behaviour.
Two general types of
attributions people make
1. Dispositional attributions- which
ascribe a person’s behaviour to internal
factors, personality traits, motivation &
ability.
2. Situational attributions- which attribute
a person’s behaviour to external factors
such as equipment and social influence
from others.
ATTRIBUTION THEORY
views the process by which individuals
interpret events around them as being caused
by a relatively stable portion of their
environment.
ATTRIBUTION THEORY
. –attempts to explain the why of behavior
as based on people’s attributions of
causes to events that happen to them.
1.DISTINCTIVENESS-is the degree to which a person
behaves similarly in different situations,
2.CONSISTENCY- is the degree to which a person
engages in the same behaviors at the same time.
3.CONSENSUS –is the degree to which other people are
engaging in the same behaviour.

EXPRESSIONS
some facial expressions are
influenced by learning and are
unique to national culture. EX:
In China sticking out the tongue
is a gesture of surprise, but in
U.S it is a sign of disrespect.
Body language: mimicking
Refers to the fact that people
often unconsciously mimic the
postures, mannerisms, and
facial expressions of other
people.
Facial feedback
Sensations from the face
provide signal to the brain that
help us determine what specific
emotion we are feeling.
Emotional labor
The effort of work to manage
your emotions to keep them
under control.
2 ways to manage emotions
1. Surface acting
2. Deep acting
- the capacity for handling
relationships with others.
