Financial Accountants and Independent Auditors
Questions
1. Should auditors insist that their clients accept all proposed audit adjustments, even those that have
an "immaterial" effect on the given set of financial statements? Defend your answer.
To confirm that materiality is a pervasive concept in auditing, simply refer to the index of the
professional auditing standards and identify the large number of "materiality" entries–approximately
fifty, if you are curious. In addition to being an important topic, materiality is easily among the most
controversial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3. Identify the general principles or guidelines that dictate when companies are entitled to record
revenue. How were these principles or guidelines violated by the $7.8 million barter transaction and
the two consignment sales discussed in this case?
3. Statement of Financial Accounting Concepts No. 5, "Recognition and Measurement in Financial
Statements of Business Enterprises," established a two–part revenue recognition rule for accountants
to follow in deciding when to record revenues. Before revenue is recognized (recorded) in an entity's
accounting records, it should be both realized and earned, according to the following excerpt from
SFAC No. 5. Revenues and gains are realized when products (goods or services), merchandise, or
other assets are exchanged for cash or claims to cash. . . . revenues are considered to have been
earned when the entity has substantially accomplished what it must do to be entitled to the benefits
represented by the revenues. The "Suggestions for Use" section identifies the specific accounting
standards that apply most directly to

Exporting, Importing, and Countertrade

Exporting, Importing, and Countertrade are three key factors of the barter and trade system between
different countries and nations. Although there are many negatives when it comes to the barter
system between countries, there are far more positives at hand. With a greater number of positives to
take into account, the negatives are outweighed. While these key factors are very similar, they are
very different in their specific jobs, and come with different risks. In the barter and trade process
between nations these three tactics are used to achieve the same goal, receiving goods that are not
locally attainable. The first key ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Often these steps are followed by negatives. According to page 3, firms must face and understand
the risks accompanied by foreign exchange, note the possible challenges of doing business with
foreign markets, and identify marketing opportunities (Farooq). While these steps are carried out by
all firms, they can be very daunting. This is why large firms, that are more experienced, proactively
seek marketing opportunities. Due to their size, these small firms tend to be intimidated when it
comes to seeking opportunities, therefore they seek them reactively. When these steps are not
carried out carefully and as planned, the negatives of exportation come forth. Where most firms find
themselves in trouble is when they have poorly analyzed the market in which they are trying to
export, lacking expertise required to enter a foreign market, or poorly executed campaigns with their
desired market. The reasons stated above are why the barter and trade system needs the two other
key factors in order to successfully work.
The second key factor is importing. The process of importation is defined as bringing goods or
services into a country from abroad for sale. If one were to consider importing and exporting as a
push/pull relationship, importing would be the pull while exporting would be the push. Both
importing and exporting play a crucial role in the make–up of a nation's economy, importing is

Barter Syndrome Research Paper
Batter syndrome is inherited autosomal recessive thick ascending loop disorder that is characterized
by following clinical features: metabolic alkalosis hyperreninemia hyperaldosteronism hypokalemia
(low level of plasma potassium ion) hypomagnesaemia (high level of excreted magnesium level)
hypocalcaemia (excessive urinary losses of calcium ion) excess production of prostaglandin E2
(PGE2). Bartter syndrome is divided to two types: neonatal and classic. In case of neonatal Bartter
syndrome, it is detected at 24–30 weeks of gestation, and excess of amniotic fluid. After birth, infant
will urinate and drink excessively, and too much excretion of calcium ion might lead to formation of
kidney stone. Meanwhile, classic Bartter syndrome is usually diagnosed at childhood and patients
will have same syndromes as in case of neonatal Bartter syndrome. Difference is that, urinary
calcium excretion is not too much and do not have tendency to to form kidney stones. In addition
patents might have low blood pressure, excessive thirst (polydipsia), excessive urination (polyuria),
which might lead to dehydration. Other symptoms include constipation, vomiting, and because of
inability to retain sodium, magnesium and calcium ions, there might be muscle weakness, cramping
and fatigue. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sara Teasdale's Poem 'Barter'
Sara Teasdale's poem "Barter" talks about finding love in life. One must barter with love to get love
in return. Once one begins to barter their love for more love they will realize that life offers so much
love to every being that lives on this planet; it may seem shaking at some points but it guides and
waits, waiting to be caught. Teasdale uses metaphors, similes and imagery. Don't count the cost of
love, but live with it and let it bring a natural high of ecstasy. Life has many things to offer people,
and love is one of them. The poet is the narrator who expresses her feelings that "Love has
loveliness to sell, all beautiful and splendid things." The title of this poem is "Barter", and barter is
another word for exchange. The exchange ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children's faces are being compared to what holding a cup looks like; "Children's faces looking up
holding wonder like a cup." Children are waiting and are eager to find love. Just like a cup, their
wonder stays there and does not leave. There are so many wonders of this world to be had and they
are holding it in their small hands, and they are still doing it because from where they are standing
all they see is forward, and they want to reach the love that they wonder about. They are gazing at
stars, and stars are symbolic for paths leading to a special destination. The North Star led the three
kings to baby Jesus. The stars that the children are looking at will bring them to the love that they
have been looking for. Music is also used as an element to express that people in love should listen
to each other because their words are music. "Music like a curve of gold" is used to say that
listening to one another is what makes people last together. The curve of gold is a symbol for a ring,
and a ring is a symbol for love and marriage. Saying "Music like a curve of gold" is comparing
music to peoples words and how people listen to each other is what makes love last. Listening is a
key virtue to what makes love last. Being able to understand one another is how people stay together
for so long. Listening to the stars and following them will bring people to love that they are so eager

Auditor 's Audit Adjustment : Audit Adjustments
Question # 1
No.
Clients are not inclined to adopting auditor's advised audit adjustments, which forces auditors to
somehow determine on an aggregate basis the impact that proposed and/or passed audit adjustments
have on a client's financial statements. The most common reason for a client not to make a proposed
audit adjustment is that the client disagrees with the need for the given adjustment. We don't want to
see that audit engagements at the end of the day become a war between client management and
auditors over proposed audit adjustments.
Question # 2
Yes. To the greatest extent possible, auditors should not provide clients with access to the critical
parameters or facets of audit engagements, including materiality limits. According to this case, the
CFO used the materiality to interfere with the integrity of the entire audit engagement.
It is often not feasible to conceal information such as materiality limits from client personnel.
Sometimes, auditors always have client pull documents, prepare various schedules to which audit
procedures will be applied, and perform other important audit–related tasks. In completing these
tasks, client personnel can often determine the auditor's intent and the scope limit of a given audit
test. Likewise, clients have access to the professional auditing sources and professional publications
that discuss the general guidelines that auditors use in making important strategic decisions during
the course of an audit, including the

There is also no clear code on give gifts to clients. Some counselors see giving clients gifts for
celebration such anniversary, graduation, birth of a child as gestures that could support or/and
strengthen the therapeutic relationship but some counselors might see those gestures possibly
complicating the therapy. The issue of touch is also discussed in this part of the video
In the third and fourth part of the video the issues that arise at the beginnings and endings of
treatment is discussed. A few questions that answer are, "When and how does the professional
relationship actually begin? When and how can it end? What should you be aware of ethically and
legally at the start and finish of treatment?" The first part is to understand how to terminate therapy
in a proper way. It's important to focus on how treatment is terminated and not the why it's
terminated. It's important to make sure that if appropriateness of termination is every question that a
clinician keep good records that show you handle termination issue, did proper referrals, treatment
records were made available and finally follow–up consultations was offered. It's also discussed the
importance of understanding HIPAA and your state laws when it comes to client records. It was also
made important that you have professional will that in event of your death that you should not leave

I began popping pills when I was thirteen. Anything and everything I could get my hands on. My
friends and I would meet before school, taking various containers out of our bags. Mine was a
Wrigley's Doublemint Gum tin. We would open them up, displaying pills of various shapes, colors,
and sizes. We had our own mini pharmacy with it's own barter system of sorts. A few anti–
depressants for an Adderall, or a muscle relaxer for a Klonopin. Half of them we didn 't even know
what they were. We all could get different stuff, so together we had a rainbow of pharmaceuticals.
My favorite however, was Effexor. My grandmother had them for depression associated with bipolar
disorder, but she never took them. It was easy to swipe the bottle. The pills were these bright orange
capsules, with little white beads inside. It felt like a maraca as they slid down my throat. Over time,
taking one, became taking four at a time. After taking them I would experience severe stomach
cramps, nausea, dizziness, and migraines. My friends were popping pills for fun, but I was taking
them to suffer. I wanted so badly to forget about the emotional pain I was going through, I wanted to
feel physically how I felt mentally everyday. If I hurt, that 's all I could focus on, everything else
disappeared. All the self–doubt and self–hate vanished. I just wanted a moment of peace inside my
brain. It was June 23rd, 2012, the summer before my freshman year, when I decided once and for

A Comparison Of Gatsby And Barter
Being wealthy is what the American dream is truly about. It is about striking it rich and being happy
with all of the money that you have and everything that you can buy with it. James Gatsby and the
poem Barter by Sara Teasdale are perfect representation of the American dream. The poem discusses
how wealth can get you everything you want and need in life and Gatsby honestly lives by this
moral. With all of the money that Gatsby has, he is able to throw extravagant parties without even
thinking about the cost of everything, and he thinks that with all of this money he will get his true
love Daisy. The American dream with all of its glory does not include love. Gatsby feels that the

arms that hold you" and with all the money that he has Gatsby thinks that this will get daisy to love
him. Sadly for him, those eyes are not the eyes of Daisy. They are the eyes of the people that love
what he has and the ones that want to be him. It is not real love because if someone loves you, you
should not have to be someone you are not just to get them to be with you. Without Daisy, there is
no Gatsby. He made his life so grand so that he can share it with her. Gatsby has everything possible

The Role Of Barter And The Role Of Credit As Creating Our...
A neanderthal walks up to another neanderthal carrying an apple. One man hands the other his
carrot, and then receives an apple in return, and so begins our economic system. Or so goes the
myth... In actual fact, barter was never the form of transaction that created the earliest economic
activity. In this essay, I will make the argument that the earliest form of economic activity was
actually a credit based honour system, and what followed that was monetary currency (Graeber,
Hoffman, Schmid). Barter was actually an activity than followed currency, and occurred relatively
infrequently (Graeber, Hoffman, Schmid). I can describe the theme of these unitsto be considering
the arguments between the role of barter and the role of credit in creating our currency system. The
evidence in the unit seems to present the conclusion that credit economies were the major driver in
creating the money system. The structure of this essay is as follows: Initially I will discuss the first
lecture by Professor David Hoffman, and his discuss of the origins of money and the role (or lack
thereof) of barter in that history. In the second, I will discuss the assigned reading The Origins of
Money, by Frederic Pryor, and discuss how that relates to the historical importance of barter. In the
third section of this essay, I will discuss the guest lecture by anthropologist Karl Schmidt, and his
view of the role of barter in the history of money. And in the fourth section, I will discuss the

The Pros And Cons Of Countertrade
4.0 Countertrade
Generally countertrade is a trade carried out partially or wholly in goods rather than money.
According to Investopedia (2014), countertrade can be defined as an international trade which are
exchanged for other goods rather than hard currency. This might because many nations do not have
enough dollars or the "hard" currency such as British pounds, German marks, French franc,
Japanese yen and so forth to buy what they need. However, they have products that people from
other countries want to buy (Zodl, 1995). Usually this type of payment method might from a contact

Poetic Techniques Used In Barter
Life is worth living, so live another day The meaning of forgiveness People make mistakes, doesn't
mean you have to give in Life is worth living again (Bieber lines 19–22) These song lyrics convey
how there are many poetic devices in "Life is Worth Living". These lyrics show examples of
symbolism, repetition, and mood. "Life is Worth Living" has more poetic devices than the poem,
"Barter", which makes the song lyrics more artistic through the use of metaphors, allusions,
symbolism, alliteration, hyperboles, mood, and repetition. "Life is Worth Living" uses many
examples of repetition. One example of repetition is in the lines, Life is worth living, so live another

The poem, "Barter" also uses repetition. Sara Teasdale incorporates this poetic device into her poem
in the lines, "Life has loveliness to sell," (Teasdale lines 1, 7). Teasdale repeats this line because it is
the overall theme and message to the poem. This line is what she wants the reader to get out of the
poem. Overall, both the song and poem show examples of repetition. In both texts, the authors use
many symbols in their lyrics and words. In "Life is Worth Living", Justin Bieber uses many symbols
to describe the message of the song. One example of that would be the lines, "Said it ain't over / Oh,
even in the midst of doubt / Life is worth living" (Bieber lines 16–18). This is symbolism because it
is symbolizing how you should never give up, no matter what the situation is. In "Barter", there are
also many symbols that make up the poem. One of them being, Spend all you have for

The Art of Bartering: Promoting Financial Freedom on the Homestead In ages past, bartering was
not only an acceptable way to conduct business in the community, but the only way to conduct the
business necessary to sustain a household. The modern culture shuns bartering for goods or services.
Credit is king in a world filled with unnecessary goods and that pushes the use of services that are
purely for convenience not because of necessity. Those who propose to barter may be cruelly
labeled a miser, a cheapskate or a penny pincher. But those who are looking to escape the
consumer–driven culture and focus on living a more self–sufficient lifestyle, the art of bartering can

Trading goods in exchange for different goods within the local area and across borders were routine
in early ages. It was not until roughly 600 B.C. that the first currency was minted for use. Currency
hastened the consumer process, allowing a greater number of goods to trade hands quickly. As
currencies were developed around the globe, the demand for a currency–based financial system
overpowered the natural process of bartering within and around the community. Modern Day
Bartering Many modern day homesteaders are using their bartering skills to meet a wide variety of
needs. From building materials, livestock and seeds to skilled labor, any task or any good can be
used as part of a successful bartering agreement. Though their stories are not in the headlines, many
people have pulled back from the consumer culture and fully funded a portion of their annual budget
by bartering instead. If no currency is exchanged, how does a person determine if it is helping his or
her bottom line? The value of bartering can be measured in time, as it relates to imparting
knowledge; or measured by the exertion necessary in physical labor; or it can be measured by the
amount of currency saved by bartering instead of paying outright for the good or

Barter Kings Vs Pawn Kings Essay
Pawn Stars and Barter Kings Exercise The episodes of Pawn Stars and Barter Kings I watched,
featured many of the techniques and concerns we have been discussing in class. For example, a
major focus was on ensuring there was objective criteria to judge potential deals. These values
ranged from bringing in experts to assist the parties to using market–value to make all
determinations. While negotiations styles were similar for the team on Pawn Stars and the team on
Barter Kings, they differed greatly when it came to position vs interest–based bargaining. I have
focused on this aspect because of the contrast between the two different styles between the two
teams and the different results that came from those styles. The negotiations on PS featured a much
greater emphasis on getting the best position than satisfying interests. The PS staff's goal of
maximizing profits remained consistent throughout the episode. Therefore, the PS staff were always
attempting to lower the cost of the item, and so their number was not just based on market–value,
but on seeing how low they could get the selling party to go down. Similarly, the sellers wanted to
maximize their profits and normally had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

offered considerably less based on his low starting number. Because almost all of the buyers needed
cash for specific purposes, they almost all felt obligated to not walk away from the table. This setup

Multiple Relationships Within The Counseling Profession
Multiple relationships in the counseling profession are one of the most controversial topics. What
makes this topic so interesting is although engaging in multiple relationships with clients is not
ethically or legally wrong practitioners still shy away and frown upon it. For some practitioners
having multiple relations with a client is inevitable, especially those living in rural communities. If a
practitioner in such a community does not engage in multiple relations it can have an effect on how
successful they are. Multiple relationships are defined as when a practitioner is in a professional role
with a person in addition to another role with the same individual, or with another person close to
that individual. Mental health practitioners and school counselors have a greater challenge in dealing
with multiple relationships than those in urban communities (Corey, Corey, Corey, & Callanan,
1998). The challenge that mental health and school counselors face comes from the traditions of
living in a rural community. In rural communities they pride themselves on honesty and supporting
one another businesses. If a practitioners show any sign that they do not agree with these traditions
people in the community may not want to use their services. Some rural communities believe in
swapping rather than cash and bartering arrangements. Bartering arrangements is exchanging goods
for services in lieu of a fee. Bartering can be beneficial to both the client and the practitioner as long

Barter Poem Figurative Language
#6) How is sound an important element of the poem?
This poem follows a rhyme scheme of ABCBDD and has very strong end rhymes. The rhymes make
the poem sound controlled, very tight, and almost makes it feel like a song. In addition, meter plays
a part in this poem too. "Barter" is written is written in an iambic tetrameter and it gives the poem a
da DUM da DUM kind of feel. Overall, the meter and rhymes give the poem its musical sound and
feel.
#8) What kind of figurative language, if any, does the poem use?
The first line is very important since it sets up the rest of the poem. She presents us with this idea of
life having "loveliness to sell." Teasdale uses this extended metaphor since in this case, life is a
salesperson that wants to sell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those repeated W sounds in line 3, sort of mirror the movement and uniformity of the waves and
then everything changes with the hard C sound of cliff. In line 4 the repeated S sounds mirror the
fire's swaying and singing. Alliteration helps to give this line the rhythmic feel of a dance.
Not to mention that this poem has repetition. The repetition, or refrain of the line "Life has
loveliness to sell" brings to mind the way a salesman might call out to customers, pitching his
product to the crowd.
There is also some personification since Teasdale gives fire the human characteristics of singing and
dancing. In addition, the extended metaphor throughout the poem relies on personification since
Teasdale gives life the human characteristics of a salesman.
The second stanza continues the catalog of life's loveliness. Teasdale starts with music. Teasdale
uses a simile to describe music: it's "like a curve of gold." Gold is beautiful, valuable, and the
description of a curve brings to mind a ring and all the symbolic weight a ring of gold carries. The
comparison of music to gold kind of makes sense since it gives a value and importance to music in a
visually and symbolically interesting

Counter Trade
Counter Trade
Counter Trade:
Unquestionably, currency is the preferred payment medium for any export or import transaction–it is
easy, fast, and straightforward to transact. Sometimes, though, compa¬nies must adapt to the reality
that buyers in many countries cannot do so, whether due to the fact that their home country 's
currency is nonconvertible, the country doesn 't have enough cash, or it doesn 't have sufficient lines
of credit. Sometimes companies and coun¬tries find it practically impossible to generate enough
foreign exchange to pay for imports. In recourse, they devise creative ways to buy products. For
example, Indonesia traded 40,000 tons of palm oil, worth about US$15 million, with Russia in
exchange for Russian Sukhoi ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, Thailand and Indonesia signed a $40 million deal in which Indonesia would supply
Thailand with an agricultural aircraft, train carriages, and fertilizer in exchange for Thai rice–no

exporter and importer, often taking title to the goods received by the exporter for a price or selling
the goods for a fee and a percentage of the sales value.
(2) Buybacks
Buybacks are products the exporter receives as payment that are related to or originate from the
original export. Buyback arrangements are quite common in the sale of technology, licenses, and

manufactured in the new facility or by production from the new license or tech¬nology. Buyback
countertrade is especially popular for turnkey infrastructure projects. For example, the customer
pays for the project, say a steel mill, with government–backed long–term credit. The exporting
contractor first guarantees that the project will work when com¬pleted and then agree to buy back
products or services from the completed facility or to serve as a distributor for products exported
from the host country. The host–country buyer uses these hard currency payments to liquidate the
original long–term credit. Throughout the relationship, no cash changes hands and no credit
arrangements are necessary. The buy–back contract

Archetypal Themes In The Poem 'Barter' By Sara Teasdale
A person will experience some type of barter transaction in their lifetime. Some may be a reasonable
transaction although that's not always the case. In the real world, most barter transactions have cash
involved in the trade. But the speaker of this piece is explaining that this barter can not be bought
with money. However, it can be bought by a sentimental value that money can't buy, loveliness. Sara
is emphasizing the fact that humans need to open their eyes to what is in front of them. Through the
poem "Barter", Sara Teasdale emphasizes the importance of living lovingly within the moment
through the archetypal themes of Carpe diem and love conquers all.
Living a life full of happiness is key to having a successful and more enjoyable life. This is the
message Sara Teasdale is persuading to get across to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Sara uses the word as a different meaning and not literally, it plays a big role in the poem.
She describes in her second stanza about wanting love. The archetypal theme could also represent
love conquers all and the importance of living lovingly. Sara Teasdale talks about wanting several
things in the poem that she would love to own or be apart of. One could possibly describe wanting a
significant other by her side that has "Eyes that love you, arms that hold" (Sara Teasdale Line ten).
To Sara, having love is just as important as having happiness.
Life is too short to not enjoy it to the maximum potential. That is the message the speaker wants to
persuade the reader with this poem. It is important to appreciate the small materials or moments in
life just like Sara described "For one white singing hour of peace" (Sara Teasdale Line fifteen). The
speaker is imploring the reader to open their eyes and enjoy the small moments that will help live a
lovingly life. The title is interesting because the barter is technically between only the speaker. At
the end of the day it is not your typical

Smith V Us Case Study
Case: Smith v. U.S. (1993)
Facts: John Angus Smith attempted to trade a Mac 10 machine gun for 2 ounces of cocaine. Smith
was then arrested for possession of cocaine and a fully automatic weapon. Federal law requires a
mandatory minimum prison sentence for 30 years if a machine gun is "used" in the commission of a
drug offense, and because these two things were used in conjunction, Smith was sentenced to 30
years in prison.
Issue? Was the exchange of a firearm for drugs applicable under the federal law against the use of a

The Impact Of Money On An African Subsistence Economy
Ethnography Review Paper
Throughout history, money and the nature money have been defined and redefined from economist
to economist, however, at its foundation, money serves as a standard of valuation, a means of
exchange, and a mode of payment. Of course, not all societies subscribe to this rigid definition of
currency because cultures have existed with economies based on barter or currencies that don't meet
the conventional interpretation of money, and in the case of the Tiv culture, both general and special
purpose currencies have existed for the trading of different types of goods. In Paul Bohannon's
article, "The Impact of Money on an African Subsistence Economy", he argues that the introduction
of a general purpose currency fundamentally changed the nature of Tiv culture because it altered
their previously multi–centric economy and changed their traditional methodology of trading and
valuation of categories of goods. Bohannon's ethnography of the Tiv culture and their economic
history opens with a simple analysis of contemporary definitions of money and an explanation of the
concept of "general purpose money". According to Bohannon's article, economists have frequently
approached the topic of currency incorrectly when it came to economies in more foreign cultures
because they lacked more "elastic" definitions of currency. Not all cultures have a singular, "general
purpose" currency that fits all three of the aforementioned foundations of money because like the

Figurative Language And Imagery In 'Barter' By Sara Teasdale
In the poem "Barter" by Sara Teasdale she uses multiple types of figurative language and imagery to
show how important it is to enjoy life no mater the cost; because it is worth it in the end. In line one
of the poem it says, "life has loveliness to sale". This line is a motif because it is repeated in the first
line of the second stanza. She does this not only to reinforce the point she trying to get across, but it
also acts as a chorus of a song/ nursery rhyme. The first and seventh line "life has loveliness to sell"
is also a metaphor, where life is a salesperson that wants to sell us loveliness. Line one and line
seven is also personification because life can not really sale you something. She uses more
personification in line four, "Soaring

Pre–World War 2 – Barter system was famous back then between World War 1 and World War 2.
The reason is quite certain because during the war, the payment in money became very difficult. The
Germans and some Eastern European Countries were the first ones to start Countertrading due to
inflationary and deflationary pressures in their economy. (Anon 2016)
2. Oil Crisis and the Cold War – The historical events and wars from 1970–1980 had increased the
oil prices that boosted the Countertrading practices. It was due to the events in the Middle East and
the Iranian Revolution along with the Iran–Iraq war that led to the increase in the price of oil. (Anon

3. Post–Cold War – After the dismissal of Communism in Eastern Europe and the collapse of Soviet
Union, Countertrading started gaining its momentum. The Post–Communist states that were short in
the reserves of foreign currency made Countertrading crucial for them. (Anon 2016)

Naked Economics Chapter 4 Essay
1. The barter system has been around for a very long time. We even use the barter system in the
United states today. The barter system is essentially an exchange of goods and services, something
for something, Of course it has evolved over the years. Back then it would be like giving flower in
exchange for sugar, but now it is paper currency in exchange for anything.
2. The principle of supply and demand is a fairly simple concept. The Manufacturer creates the
supply and the consumer creates the demand. For example, if a manufacturer creates popular toy
they will increase the supply around Christmas time and decrease the supply during middle of
February. This is due to the fact that the consumer creates much more demand around that time.
3. A tariff is the tax of imports and exports to different countries, some countries may have trade

Capitalism is basically the form of society we have in America. Capitalism is where there is a
collection of individual businesses that are individually owned with little influence by the
government. These businesses are set up by three things human skill, human manpower, and
resources.
6. Financial decisions impact the economy in a major way, especially in a capitalist society. For
example if you choose any company instead of one of its competitors, that affects it in a big way. Or
let's say you can't afford your house anymore and the bank takes your home, doing that the bank
loses a lot of money that way.
7. A market economy is the concept of supply and demand. This is a good thing because the goods
that are being sold are based on how many there are and the demand for that good. For example if
you were to buy a lobster, and lets say at that time there was a big catch, that would make the price
of the lobster drop a lot. The down side of a market economy is that the individual businesses do not
make the set prices, and have no say in how much the good would

What´s a Barter Practice?
Money is a medium that can be exchanged for goods and services. It is also a measure of an effort
made by an individual person, or a group of people. To be more specific, the money could be used
as a medium of exchange, unit of account, and a store of value. People in the past did their best in
order to have an acceptable life. For instance, they hunted foods, harvested crops, and their shelters
were built by them. Each person was specialized for one aspect, such as building a house, selling
different types of food, selling the machines used to build, and so on. This created the idea of
exchanging the goods and the services. In addition, each work done was given a value. People
developed money at different stages of time which popularize several types of money. When metals
were available in big amounts, coins came into existence later it was replaced by the paper money.
At different times, several objects were used as the medium of exchange. So, the kinds of money
have changed according to the needs and availability of means. Five stages of money development
will be discussed in this paper. The five topics are exchanging goods, the development of gold and
silver coins, the invention of paper money, electronic money, and a prediction for the future of the
money.

Essay On American Trade
We all know the universal knowledge that one cannot receive anything without giving something in
return. We, being normal everyday American citizens, trade in various ways in our constant, normal
lives. To trade, in the simplest of terms, is the buying or selling of goods/services. Trading money
for food, or our time for money is just common way that we trade in our normal lives. Now, take the
small scale of trading that we all know, and enlarge it to the trade with other countries. The United
States trades frequently with other countries in order to keep our economy running. Seeing as a lot
of the resources we depend on today can be found cheaper and are easier to obtain in other
countries, its only natural that both small and large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course, it is only natural to want to keep American money circulating in the United States over
another country. In the same year the Tonnage Act was passed; this act placed a 50–cent tax on
foreign ships entering American ports, 30 cents, on American built but foreign owned ships and 6
cents, on American ships. These two acts were the first two main tariffs in the United States and can
be see as an important part of American trade history. In 1793, Thomas Jefferson issued the "Report
of the Secretary of State on the Privileges and Restrictions on the Commerce of the United States in
Foreign Countries." This limited the imports and exports that the United States was involved in with
other foreign countries at that time. Federal Trade with countries like Spain, France, Great Britain
and the United Netherlands were ultimately lowered. After this act was issued, in 1807 the U.S
began wishy–washy trade sanctions with Great Britain and France until the violent outbreak that
happened in Great Britain later in 1812. This began the War of 1812 that lasted until 1814. After the
war of 1812 the United States had taken a hard hit. The tariff of 1816, also known as the Dallas
Tariff, was passed. This tariff was the first real protectionist measure that the United States had
taken, raising the taxes to 20–25% on all foreign goods. Later on in time the federal government
passed another protectionist tariff, whose purpose was to protect American industry from cheap

Theory of Absolute Cost Advantage
Theory of Absolute Cost Advantage MERCANTILISTS' VERSION Mercantilism stretched over
nearly three centuries, ending in the last quarter of the eighteenth century. It was the period when the
nation–states were consolidating in Europe. For the purpose of consolidation, they required gold that
could best be accumulated through trade surplus. In order to achieved trade surplus, their
governments monopolized trade activities, provided subsidies and other incentives for export, and
restricted imports. Since most European countries were colonial powers, they imported low cost raw
material from their colonies and exported high cost manufactured goods to the colonies. They also
prevented colonies from producing manufacturing. All this was done in ... Show more content on

Similarly in Pakistan 10 kilogram of food grains will be produced instead of 7.5 kilogram. The
theory of absolute cost advantage explains how trade helps increase the total output in the two
countries. But it fails to explain whether trade will exist if any of the two countries produces both of
goods at lower cost. In fact, this was the deficiency of this theory, which led David Ricardo to
formulate the theory of comparative cost advantage (Haberler, 1950). Theory of Absolute Cost

Bangladesh Pakistan Total output in two countries: 10 kg Nil 20 kg Nil 10 kg Theory of
Comparative Cost Advantage Ricardo focuses not on absolute efficiency but on relative efficiency
of the countries for producing goods. This is why his theory is known as the theory of comparative
cost advantage. In a two–country, two–commodity model, he explains that a country will produce
only that product which it is above to produce more efficiently. Suppose Bangladesh and India, each
of the two has 100 units of labour. One half of the labour force is used for the production of rise and
the other half is used for the production of wheat in the absence of trade. In Bangladesh, 10 units of
labour are required to produce either one kilogram of rice one kilogram of wheat. On the contrary,

Monetary Crisis and the Birkmans
"Did you get all the livestock locked up tight tonight?" John asked his son Brad, a high school
senior, as he came in from finishing up the chores around the farm. "Yes of course, just like an ole
night, I know that we need to protect the farm, the animals, and ourselves from being robbed," Brad
replied in his usual sarcastic tone. The Brinkman's had lived in Steele City, Nebraska their whole
lives and up until a few years ago everything had been going great, from harvesting to calving in the
winter, and carrying out their daily chores. Then all of a sudden about three years ago the
government made an announcement that all types of monies needed to be gone and out of the United
States. President Hinker had made a declaration that America would be going off the Green
Standard, like President Nixon had done in 1971 by taking the United States and the world off of the
Gold Standard. The United States had been having troubles repaying debts to China, Russia, Hong
Kong and many more. Americans had also resorted to spending outrageous amounts of money on
simple things as these countries had stopped importing goods to the United States. It was rumored
that one man paid over a thousand dollars for a box of cereal that his pregnant wife demanded him
to buy. With the rising prices and limited amounts of goods, people were going crazy. President
Hinker knew that nothing could possibly get America out of the trillions of debt that we owed to so

Analyzing The Poem 'Barter' By Sara Teasdale
Analysis In the poem Barter by Sara Teasdale uses the symbol of bartering to represent the
loveliness of life. For most of the poem, the poet shows the things in life that people should be able
to enjoy throughout their lifetime, but to achieve that state of euphoria, a person will have to go
through trials and hardships. Throughout the poem Teasdale uses rhyme scheme adding to her
lyrical tone. Teasdale also uses alluring sensory language to attract the readers, and exaggerate the
beauty of the world. Having the ability to create such a masterpiece, Teasdale was also able to take
that masterpiece and use it to teach a valuable lesson, in which every detail meant something. The
first stanza of the poem starts out by almost as if it were setting the scene using the sense of
peacefulness and admiration to introduce the concept of what Teasdale is trying to portray. Life has
loveliness to sell, All beautiful and splendid things, Blue waves whitened on a cliff, Soaring fire that

spirit and uses the word "holy." Both of these lines show the philosophical and psychological
perspective of life's blessings. Focusing on the peace of mind, soul, and the world in general,
Teasdale used this stanza to acknowledge all perspectives of the contentment people should feel at

What Is Money? How Is It Created?
WHAT IS MONEY? HOW IS IT CREATED?
Orthodox and Heterodox economics both examine what money is. However, their views are
different and, historically, many controversies have existed around money; especially after the
global financial crisis. Orthodox economists view money as a medium of exchange that replaced
barter. They also view money as a store value; a derivative from the medium of exchange.
Heterodox economics support that money is a social unit of account, where credits and debts are
measured. They agree that money is a store of value, but because one's wealth is another one's debt.
With these views in mind their "origin" stories are told to help understand the function of money
from these two different perspectives.
In most Orthodox theory, money is not important by itself. Money is important as it is linked to
other variables that are of concern such as unemployment, economic growth or maybe inflation. We
cannot define money as the thing used because it changes over time. It used to be rocks, wives, gold
and now it is notes. Thus, we define money by its use. Money in the modern economy is a medium
of exchange that replaced barter; it is spendable at face value almost immediately and is what
lubricates the market mechanism. Money can also be a store value. This is a derivative of the money
as a medium of exchange. People hold money to purchase something later.
The orthodox view was, firstly, developed in the 1870s when economists were trying to identify the

Why Do Anthropologists Study Gift Giving?
Why study Gifts?
The anthropology of gifts has been mostly studied in the context of non–Western cultures. The
important roles of gift giving were highlighted by classical anthropologists such as Malinowski,
Mauss and Levi–Strauss. They stressed the significance of reciprocity and obligation suggested in
gift exchange and that gift giving is a one practice of material expression that integrates a society.
Gift giving is essential to the studies of many anthropological debates such as sociability, alienation,
sacrifice, religion and kinship.
The anthropology of gifts is also crucial to economics. Entire businesses and industries rely on gift

from friends and charities, and as such I personally believe there is no such thing as a free gift.
Reciprocity is very important in Pakistani communities. As covered in A. Shaw's 'A Pakistani
Community in Britain,' the term lena–dena literally means 'taking and giving' and itself implies the
obligation of exchange.
In Pakistani communities, the receiver will write a note of what they were given so they can return a
similar gift. However, the returned gift must be worth slightly more. The idea is not to close the
debt, but to create a further one and continue the relationship; this is how a lena–dena is inherited.
Similar to a Kula partner, a lena–dena partner can be anybody in the Pakistani community that you
wish to have a bond with, indeed even an English woman that may have married into the family. As
gifts are given on occasions such as birthdays, dinner parties etc, the gift exchange can occur over a
long period of time. Religious events, such as khatmi–Qur'an also calls for an occasion of lena–
dena, as well as weddings, in which the bride's family can expect all of their gifts to be in return of
gifts given in lena–dena.
There is also an amount of prestige involved; the gifts received in a wedding are displayed in a
ledger for guests to look through to indicate the family's standing among its friends and

Exporting, Importing, and Countertrade Bethel University Alacia Mitchell Dustin Warmath 1/22/2017 Exporting, Importing, and Countertrade are three key factors of the barter and trade system between different countries and nations. Although there are many negatives when it comes to the barter system between countries, there are far more positives at hand. With a greater number of positives to take into account, the negatives are outweighed. While these key factors are very similar, they are very different in their specific jobs, and come with different risks. In the barter and trade process between nations these three tactics are used to achieve the same goal, receiving goods that are not locally attainable. The first key ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Often these steps are followed by negatives. According to page 3, firms must face and understand the risks accompanied by foreign exchange, note the possible challenges of doing business with foreign markets, and identify marketing opportunities (Farooq). While these steps are carried out by all firms, they can be very daunting. This is why large firms, that are more experienced, proactively seek marketing opportunities. Due to their size, these small firms tend to be intimidated when it comes to seeking opportunities, therefore they seek them reactively. When these steps are not carried out carefully and as planned, the negatives of exportation come forth. Where most firms find themselves in trouble is when they have poorly analyzed the market in which they are trying to export, lacking expertise required to enter a foreign market, or poorly executed campaigns with their desired market. The reasons stated above are why the barter and trade system needs the two other key factors in order to successfully work. The second key factor is importing. The process of importation is defined as bringing goods or services into a country from abroad for sale. If one were to consider importing and exporting as a push/pull relationship, importing would be the pull while exporting would be the push. Both importing and exporting play a crucial role in the make–up of a nation's economy, importing is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Sara Teasdale's Poem 'Barter' Sara Teasdale's poem "Barter" talks about finding love in life. One must barter with love to get love in return. Once one begins to barter their love for more love they will realize that life offers so much love to every being that lives on this planet; it may seem shaking at some points but it guides and waits, waiting to be caught. Teasdale uses metaphors, similes and imagery. Don't count the cost of love, but live with it and let it bring a natural high of ecstasy. Life has many things to offer people, and love is one of them. The poet is the narrator who expresses her feelings that "Love has loveliness to sell, all beautiful and splendid things." The title of this poem is "Barter", and barter is another word for exchange. Children are waiting and are eager to find love. Just like a cup, their wonder stays there and does not leave. There are so many wonders of this world to be had and they are holding it in their small hands, and they are still doing it because from where they are standing all they see is forward, and they want to reach the love that they wonder about. They are gazing at stars, and stars are symbolic for paths leading to a special destination. The North Star led the three kings to baby Jesus. The stars that the children are looking at will bring them to the love that they have been looking for. Music is also used as an element to express that people in love should listen to each other because their words are music. "Music like a curve of gold" is used to say that listening to one another is what makes people last together. The curve of gold is a symbol for a ring, and a ring is a symbol for love and marriage. Saying "Music like a curve of gold" is comparing music to peoples words and how people listen to each other is what makes love last. Listening is a key virtue to what makes love last. Auditor 's Audit Adjustment : Audit Adjustments Question # 1 No. Clients are not inclined to adopting auditor's advised audit adjustments, which forces auditors to somehow determine on an aggregate basis the impact that proposed and/or passed audit adjustments have on a client's financial statements. The most common reason for a client not to make a proposed audit adjustment is that the client disagrees with the need for the given adjustment. We don't want to see that audit engagements at the end of the day become a war between client management and auditors over proposed audit adjustments. Question # 2 Yes. To the greatest extent possible, auditors should not provide clients with access to the critical parameters or facets of audit engagements, including materiality limits. According to this case, the CFO used the materiality to interfere with the integrity of the entire audit engagement. It is often not feasible to conceal information such as materiality limits from client personnel. Sometimes, auditors always have client pull documents, prepare various schedules to which audit procedures will be applied, and perform other important audit–related tasks. In completing these tasks, client personnel can often determine the auditor's intent and the scope limit of a given audit test. Likewise, clients have access to the professional auditing sources and professional publications that discuss the general guidelines that auditors use in making important strategic decisions during the course of an audit, including the ... My friends and I would meet before school, taking various containers out of our bags. Mine was a Wrigley's Doublemint Gum tin. We would open them up, displaying pills of various shapes, colors, and sizes. We had our own mini pharmacy with it's own barter system of sorts. A few anti– depressants for an Adderall, or a muscle relaxer for a Klonopin. Half of them we didn 't even know what they were. We all could get different stuff, so together we had a rainbow of pharmaceuticals. My favorite however, was Effexor. My grandmother had them for depression associated with bipolar disorder, but she never took them. It was easy to swipe the bottle. The pills were these bright orange capsules, with little white beads inside. It felt like a maraca as they slid down my throat. Over time, taking one, became taking four at a time. After taking them I would experience severe stomach cramps, nausea, dizziness, and migraines. My friends were popping pills for fun, but I was taking them to suffer. I wanted so badly to forget about the emotional pain I was going through, I wanted to feel physically how I felt mentally everyday. If I hurt, that 's all I could focus on, everything else disappeared. All the self–doubt and self–hate vanished. I just wanted a moment of peace inside my brain. It is about striking it rich and being happy with all of the money that you have and everything that you can buy with it. James Gatsby and the poem Barter by Sara Teasdale are perfect representation of the American dream. The poem discusses how wealth can get you everything you want and need in life and Gatsby honestly lives by this moral. With all of the money that Gatsby has, he is able to throw extravagant parties without even thinking about the cost of everything, and he thinks that with all of this money he will get his true love Daisy. The poem says, "Eyes that love you, arms that hold you" and with all the money that he has Gatsby thinks that this will get daisy to love him. Sadly for him, those eyes are not the eyes of Daisy. They are the eyes of the people that love what he has and the ones that want to be him. It is not real love because if someone loves you, you should not have to be someone you are not just to get them to be with you. Without Daisy, there is no Gatsby. One man hands the other his carrot, and then receives an apple in return, and so begins our economic system. Or so goes the myth... In actual fact, barter was never the form of transaction that created the earliest economic activity. In this essay, I will make the argument that the earliest form of economic activity was actually a credit based honour system, and what followed that was monetary currency (Graeber, Hoffman, Schmid). Barter was actually an activity than followed currency, and occurred relatively infrequently (Graeber, Hoffman, Schmid). I can describe the theme of these unitsto be considering the arguments between the role of barter and the role of credit in creating our currency system. The evidence in the unit seems to present the conclusion that credit economies were the major driver in creating the money system. The structure of this essay is as follows: Initially I will discuss the first lecture by Professor David Hoffman, and his discuss of the origins of money and the role (or lack thereof) of barter in that history. In the second, I will discuss the assigned reading The Origins of Money, by Frederic Pryor, and discuss how that relates to the historical importance of barter. In the third section of this essay, I will discuss the guest lecture by anthropologist Karl Schmidt, and his view of the role of barter in the history of money. These lyrics show examples of symbolism, repetition, and mood. "Life is Worth Living" has more poetic devices than the poem, "Barter", which makes the song lyrics more artistic through the use of metaphors, allusions, symbolism, alliteration, hyperboles, mood, and repetition. Overall, both the song and poem show examples of repetition. In both texts, the authors use many symbols in their lyrics and words. In "Life is Worth Living", Justin Bieber uses many symbols to describe the message of the song. One example of that would be the lines, "Said it ain't over / Oh, even in the midst of doubt / Life is worth living" (Bieber lines 16–18). Barter Research Paper The Art of Bartering: Promoting Financial Freedom on the Homestead In ages past, bartering was not only an acceptable way to conduct business in the community, but the only way to conduct the business necessary to sustain a household. The modern culture shuns bartering for goods or services. Credit is king in a world filled with unnecessary goods and that pushes the use of services that are purely for convenience not because of necessity. Those who propose to barter may be cruelly labeled a miser, a cheapskate or a penny pincher. But those who are looking to escape the consumer–driven culture and focus on living a more self–sufficient lifestyle, the art of bartering can help lessen the financial burden that may affect some new homesteaders. ... It was not until roughly 600 B.C. that the first currency was minted for use. Currency hastened the consumer process, allowing a greater number of goods to trade hands quickly. As currencies were developed around the globe, the demand for a currency–based financial system overpowered the natural process of bartering within and around the community. Modern Day Bartering Many modern day homesteaders are using their bartering skills to meet a wide variety of needs. From building materials, livestock and seeds to skilled labor, any task or any good can be used as part of a successful bartering agreement. Though their stories are not in the headlines, many people have pulled back from the consumer culture and fully funded a portion of their annual budget by bartering instead. If no currency is exchanged, how does a person determine if it is helping his or her bottom line? Barter Kings Vs Pawn Kings Essay Pawn Stars and Barter Kings Exercise The episodes of Pawn Stars and Barter Kings I watched, featured many of the techniques and concerns we have been discussing in class. For example, a major focus was on ensuring there was objective criteria to judge potential deals. These values ranged from bringing in experts to assist the parties to using market–value to make all determinations. While negotiations styles were similar for the team on Pawn Stars and the team on Barter Kings, they differed greatly when it came to position vs interest–based bargaining. I have focused on this aspect because of the contrast between the two different styles between the two teams and the different results that came from those styles. The negotiations on PS featured a much greater emphasis on getting the best position than satisfying interests. The PS staff's goal of maximizing profits remained consistent throughout the episode. Therefore, the PS staff were always attempting to lower the cost of the item, and so their number was not just based on market–value, but on seeing how low they could get the selling party to go down. What makes this topic so interesting is although engaging in multiple relationships with clients is not ethically or legally wrong practitioners still shy away and frown upon it. For some practitioners having multiple relations with a client is inevitable, especially those living in rural communities. If a practitioner in such a community does not engage in multiple relations it can have an effect on how successful they are. Multiple relationships are defined as when a practitioner is in a professional role with a person in addition to another role with the same individual, or with another person close to that individual. Mental health practitioners and school counselors have a greater challenge in dealing with multiple relationships than those in urban communities (Corey, Corey, Corey, & Callanan, 1998). The challenge that mental health and school counselors face comes from the traditions of living in a rural community. In rural communities they pride themselves on honesty and supporting one another businesses. If a practitioners show any sign that they do not agree with these traditions people in the community may not want to use their services. In line 4 the repeated S sounds mirror the fire's swaying and singing. Alliteration helps to give this line the rhythmic feel of a dance. Not to mention that this poem has repetition. The repetition, or refrain of the line "Life has loveliness to sell" brings to mind the way a salesman might call out to customers, pitching his product to the crowd. There is also some personification since Teasdale gives fire the human characteristics of singing and dancing. In addition, the extended metaphor throughout the poem relies on personification since Teasdale gives life the human characteristics of a salesman. The second stanza continues the catalog of life's loveliness. Teasdale starts with music. Teasdale uses a simile to describe music: it's "like a curve of gold." Sometimes, though, compa¬nies must adapt to the reality that buyers in many countries cannot do so, whether due to the fact that their home country 's currency is nonconvertible, the country doesn 't have enough cash, or it doesn 't have sufficient lines of credit. Sometimes companies and coun¬tries find it practically impossible to generate enough foreign exchange to pay for imports. In recourse, they devise creative ways to buy products. There are barter firms that act as an intermediary between the exporter and importer, often taking title to the goods received by the exporter for a price or selling the goods for a fee and a percentage of the sales value. (2) Buybacks Buybacks are products the exporter receives as payment that are related to or originate from the original export. Buyback arrangements are quite common in the sale of technology, licenses, and even complete "turnkey" factories. Payment is made in full or in part either by products manufactured in the new facility or by production from the new license or tech¬nology. Buyback countertrade is especially popular for turnkey infrastructure projects. For example, the customer pays for the project, say a steel mill, with government–backed long–term credit. The exporting contractor first guarantees that the project will work when com¬pleted and then agree to buy back products or services from the completed facility or to serve as a distributor for products exported from the host country. The host–country buyer uses these hard currency payments to liquidate the original long–term credit. Throughout the relationship, no cash changes hands and no credit arrangements are necessary. One could possibly describe wanting a significant other by her side that has "Eyes that love you, arms that hold" (Sara Teasdale Line ten). To Sara, having love is just as important as having happiness. Life is too short to not enjoy it to the maximum potential. That is the message the speaker wants to persuade the reader with this poem. • 49. The Impact Of Money On An African Subsistence Economy Ethnography Review Paper Throughout history, money and the nature money have been defined and redefined from economist to economist, however, at its foundation, money serves as a standard of valuation, a means of exchange, and a mode of payment. Of course, not all societies subscribe to this rigid definition of currency because cultures have existed with economies based on barter or currencies that don't meet the conventional interpretation of money, and in the case of the Tiv culture, both general and special purpose currencies have existed for the trading of different types of goods. In Paul Bohannon's article, "The Impact of Money on an African Subsistence Economy", he argues that the introduction of a general purpose currency fundamentally changed the nature of Tiv culture because it altered their previously multi–centric economy and changed their traditional methodology of trading and valuation of categories of goods. Bohannon's ethnography of the Tiv culture and their economic history opens with a simple analysis of contemporary definitions of money and an explanation of the concept of "general purpose money". According to Bohannon's article, economists have frequently approached the topic of currency incorrectly when it came to economies in more foreign cultures because they lacked more "elastic" definitions of currency. Not all cultures have a singular, "general purpose" currency that fits all three of the aforementioned foundations of money because like the Tiv, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. What´s a Barter Practice? Money is a medium that can be exchanged for goods and services. It is also a measure of an effort made by an individual person, or a group of people. To be more specific, the money could be used as a medium of exchange, unit of account, and a store of value. People in the past did their best in order to have an acceptable life. For instance, they hunted foods, harvested crops, and their shelters were built by them. Each person was specialized for one aspect, such as building a house, selling different types of food, selling the machines used to build, and so on. This created the idea of exchanging the goods and the services. In addition, each work done was given a value. People developed money at different stages of time which popularize several types of money. When metals were available in big amounts, coins came into existence later it was replaced by the paper money. At different times, several objects were used as the medium of exchange. So, the kinds of money have changed according to the needs and availability of means. Five stages of money development will be discussed in this paper. The five topics are exchanging goods, the development of gold and silver coins, the invention of paper money, electronic money, and a prediction for the future of the money. In the same year the Tonnage Act was passed; this act placed a 50–cent tax on foreign ships entering American ports, 30 cents, on American built but foreign owned ships and 6 cents, on American ships. These two acts were the first two main tariffs in the United States and can be see as an important part of American trade history. In 1793, Thomas Jefferson issued the "Report of the Secretary of State on the Privileges and Restrictions on the Commerce of the United States in Foreign Countries." This limited the imports and exports that the United States was involved in with other foreign countries at that time. Federal Trade with countries like Spain, France, Great Britain and the United Netherlands were ultimately lowered. After this act was issued, in 1807 the U.S began wishy–washy trade sanctions with Great Britain and France until the violent outbreak that happened in Great Britain later in 1812. This began the War of 1812 that lasted until 1814. After the war of 1812 the United States had taken a hard hit. The tariff of 1816, also known as the Dallas Tariff, was passed. This tariff was the first real protectionist measure that the United States had taken, raising the taxes to 20–25% on all foreign goods. Theory of Absolute Cost Advantage Theory of Absolute Cost Advantage MERCANTILISTS' VERSION Mercantilism stretched over nearly three centuries, ending in the last quarter of the eighteenth century. It was the period when the nation–states were consolidating in Europe. For the purpose of consolidation, they required gold that could best be accumulated through trade surplus. In order to achieved trade surplus, their governments monopolized trade activities, provided subsidies and other incentives for export, and restricted imports. Since most European countries were colonial powers, they imported low cost raw material from their colonies and exported high cost manufactured goods to the colonies. They also prevented colonies from producing manufacturing. All this was done in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similarly in Pakistan 10 kilogram of food grains will be produced instead of 7.5 kilogram. The theory of absolute cost advantage explains how trade helps increase the total output in the two countries. But it fails to explain whether trade will exist if any of the two countries produces both of goods at lower cost. In fact, this was the deficiency of this theory, which led David Ricardo to formulate the theory of comparative cost advantage (Haberler, 1950). Theory of Absolute Cost Advantage Amount of Production in Absence of Trade Amount of Production after Trade Rice Wheat Rice Wheat Bangladesh Pakistan Total output in two countries: 5 kg 2.5 kg 15 kg 2.5 kg 5 kg Bangladesh Pakistan Total output in two countries: 10 kg Nil 20 kg Nil 10 kg Theory of Comparative Cost Advantage Ricardo focuses not on absolute efficiency but on relative efficiency of the countries for producing goods. This is why his theory is known as the theory of comparative cost advantage. In a two–country, two–commodity model, he explains that a country will produce only that product which it is above to produce more efficiently. Suppose Bangladesh and India, each of the two has 100 units of labour. One half of the labour force is used for the production of rise and the other half is used for the production of wheat in the absence of trade. In Bangladesh, 10 units of labour are required to produce either one kilogram of rice one kilogram of wheat. On the contrary, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 63. Monetary Crisis and the Birkmans "Did you get all the livestock locked up tight tonight?" John asked his son Brad, a high school senior, as he came in from finishing up the chores around the farm. "Yes of course, just like an ole night, I know that we need to protect the farm, the animals, and ourselves from being robbed," Brad replied in his usual sarcastic tone. The Brinkman's had lived in Steele City, Nebraska their whole lives and up until a few years ago everything had been going great, from harvesting to calving in the winter, and carrying out their daily chores. Then all of a sudden about three years ago the government made an announcement that all types of monies needed to be gone and out of the United States. President Hinker had made a declaration that America would be going off the Green Standard, like President Nixon had done in 1971 by taking the United States and the world off of the Gold Standard. The United States had been having troubles repaying debts to China, Russia, Hong Kong and many more. Americans had also resorted to spending outrageous amounts of money on simple things as these countries had stopped importing goods to the United States. It was rumored that one man paid over a thousand dollars for a box of cereal that his pregnant wife demanded him to buy. With the rising prices and limited amounts of goods, people were going crazy. President Hinker knew that nothing could possibly get America out of the trillions of debt that we owed to so many countries so in 2027 he closed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Analyzing The Poem 'Barter' By Sara Teasdale Analysis In the poem Barter by Sara Teasdale uses the symbol of bartering to represent the loveliness of life. For most of the poem, the poet shows the things in life that people should be able to enjoy throughout their lifetime, but to achieve that state of euphoria, a person will have to go through trials and hardships. Throughout the poem Teasdale uses rhyme scheme adding to her lyrical tone. Teasdale also uses alluring sensory language to attract the readers, and exaggerate the beauty of the world. • 69. What Is Money? How Is It Created? WHAT IS MONEY? HOW IS IT CREATED? Orthodox and Heterodox economics both examine what money is. However, their views are different and, historically, many controversies have existed around money; especially after the global financial crisis. Orthodox economists view money as a medium of exchange that replaced barter. They also view money as a store value; a derivative from the medium of exchange. Heterodox economics support that money is a social unit of account, where credits and debts are measured. They agree that money is a store of value, but because one's wealth is another one's debt. With these views in mind their "origin" stories are told to help understand the function of money from these two different perspectives. In most Orthodox theory, money is not important by itself. Money is important as it is linked to other variables that are of concern such as unemployment, economic growth or maybe inflation. We cannot define money as the thing used because it changes over time. It used to be rocks, wives, gold and now it is notes. Thus, we define money by its use. Money in the modern economy is a medium of exchange that replaced barter; it is spendable at face value almost immediately and is what lubricates the market mechanism. Money can also be a store value. This is a derivative of the money as a medium of exchange. People hold money to purchase something later. The orthodox view was, firstly, developed in the 1870s when economists were trying to identify the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As covered in A. Shaw's 'A Pakistani Community in Britain,' the term lena–dena literally means 'taking and giving' and itself implies the obligation of exchange. In Pakistani communities, the receiver will write a note of what they were given so they can return a similar gift. However, the returned gift must be worth slightly more. The idea is not to close the debt, but to create a further one and continue the relationship; this is how a lena–dena is inherited. Similar to a Kula partner, a lena–dena partner can be anybody in the Pakistani community that you wish to have a bond with, indeed even an English woman that may have married into the family. As gifts are given on occasions such as birthdays, dinner parties etc, the gift exchange can occur over a long period of time. Religious events, such as khatmi–Qur'an also calls for an occasion of lena– dena, as well as weddings, in which the bride's family can expect all of their gifts to be in return of gifts given in lena–dena. There is also an amount of prestige involved; the gifts received in a wedding are displayed in a ledger for guests to look through to indicate the family's standing among its friends and ...
