Commoditising the Supply Chain is a simple, yet powerful approach to disrupt an existing status-quo. Numerous companies have successfully employed this strategy in various industries/domains.
This talk will briefly go over real-life examples that demonstrate this technique.
We will then discuss how this technique can be applied by individuals when confronted with seemingly insurmountable challenges in daily life.
TL;DR: Model your challenge / problem-scenario as a supply chain.
1. Identify the actors/entities involved.
2. Identify the "item" in short supply.
3. Commoditise the "item".
Congratulations!
you have found an "out of the box" solution
to your problem.

The PM role is changing - you can’t just “hustle” to win anymore.
Watch as I discuss how to think long-term as a PM, using lessons learned from Uber, Dropbox and FiscalNote.
Innovation is one of the ultimate buzzwords of our era but what is it really? What is its meaning? How can we see it? Replicate it? Scale it? In his talk, I propose that innovation really is the “removal of friction” from a system; and that through this lens we can understand the rise of design, lean startup, Silicon Valley and possibly many other innovative happenings across time.
The talk covers the following topics:
1. The Real Lesson Steve Jobs Taught Us
2. The Rise of Design
3. Innovation = The Removal Of Friction?
4. Co-opting Innovation
Some of our key accessibility ideas are back to front. The most important aspect of the accessibility of images isn't 'alt-text'. The number of disabled people who use assistive technologies is tiny compared with those who don't. And for many people video is more accessible than text, not less accessible.
In this CSUN 2014 talk, Professor Jonathan Hassell exposes 16 foundational things that all advocates “know” about accessibility as myths, using real user-research to show how they need to be replaced to properly serve today’s tablet and mobile-obsessed disabled and older users.

The basic principles of product design are very simple. And you don't need to be able to code to start building your product. This deck introduces some basic principles to help you start moving from idea to tangible product.
Novice entrepreneurs who start the lean startup process with a "plausible" idea that doesn't fit with their team run the risk of failure in the validation process. While this isn't the end of the world since they'd have managed to avoid a failed launch, this situation can be avoided by starting with a problem worth solving!
As the future becomes progressively more mobile, how might we create products that adapt to the user's needs, not the screen's needs? This talk explores the boundaries of mobile-first design from a forward-looking perspective.

ChildStory District Solutions Showcase - Main PresentationChildStory
On 5 February we held a showcase of seven simple technology solutions that were thought up, designed and tested by Districts.
These solutions not only have the potential to make an immediate impact, but are critical in designing the range of broader technical solutions the ChildStory program will deliver.
Over one hundred frontline staff from across the state, the FACS Secretary and the program team came to Alexandria to see the progress of seven innovative solutions, but also to get hands-on experience using them to evaluate how they could support practice.
This is the main presentation from the program team.

6. Commoditizing
The Supply
Chain
According to a fable of Akbar and Birbal,
Akbar drew a line on a wall and asked to all
subjects to make this line shorter without
touching or removing any portion of this line.
All people thought at every angle, but did
not get any clue how to make it shorter
without touching it.
Birbal was a witty minister; he was well-
known for his presence of mind and
providing the solution of the complex
problems.
At last, Birbal accepted this challenge to
make the line shorter without touching or
removing any part of the line. Everyone was
surprised how Birbal would do that.
Birbal took a chalk and drew a bigger line
parallel to the existing line. In comparison to
the bigger line, the existing line was looking
short. Birbal did it, without touching or
harming the existing line.

This is an alternate title to the talk. Something that is simple. Straight forward. To the point.
Simply listening to this talk may not get you what you want.
This is not a self help seminar.
This is not a lesson in psychology either
What is this?
It is a mental model that i hope enables us come up with creative solutions.
Why a half built bridge?
I work at NVIDIA, where we have these informal sessions at work.
Last year, one day i was sitting at my desk at work.
preparing a powerpoint ppt on “commoditising the supply chain”
It is basically a unique strategy that several powerful companies have successfully applied time and again to become HUGE successes in their domain.
It suddenly clicked to me that we as individuals can apply the same principles to everyday problems that we have.
How many people here already have heard of - commoditising the supply chain
(If any significant raised hands)
Okay. And how many here know what the strategy is all about?
(If any raised hands)
Invite to explain
Explain the examples...
MS : Apps = commodity (OS = ++)
Google : Internet access/usage = commodity (Search, ADs ++)
Amazon : Catalog, Delivery = commodity (Price ++, One-Stop Market-place++)
Atlassian : Wiki, Search, Bug-Tracker, Docs, SCM(repos) = commodity (Planning/Tracking i.e. JIRA ++)
Uber : Car = commodity (Private transport ++)
Elon Musk : Energy-intensive operations = commodity (Energy creation / delivery ++)
