2. Registrar Corp, founded in 2003, provides
assistance to businesses trying to comply
with United States Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) regulations. To
date, Registrar Corp has helped over
30,000 companies in 160 countries.
3. The FDA is not only responsible for
overseeing how food and beverage
companies manufacture and package
their products but also how the products
are labeled. Coca-Cola and POM
Wonderful, a manufacturer of
pomegranate juice, recently appeared
before the Supreme Court to settle a
dispute concerning a potential issue of false
advertising.
4. Coca-Cola subsidiary Minute Maid has been
labeling one of its products as a pomegranate-
blueberry juice, despite the drink containing
just 0.3 percent pomegranate juice. In
response, POM Wonderful is suing Coca-Cola
under the Lanham Act, which permits
companies to pursue legal action against
competitors who unfairly alter the market by
selling products that are misrepresented in
some way. Coca-Cola, however, contends
that the juice label complies with FDA
requirements. The Supreme Court must
determine whether an FDA-compliant label
can be considered false advertising.
