-The first capacitive proximity sensor ever made was by a Canadian musician, named Hugh le Caine in 1953,
-Who at first invented the first electronic synthesizer, and at the same time he got the idea to develope a small capacitive sensor in order to control the tone and volume of his instrument with his left hand which each finger acutate a sensitive-pressure control unit.
-A cool fact is that this invention is recognized as the first touch device in history.
-Nowadays the capacitive proximity sensor continues to undergo further improvements in order to meet the needs of customers in the future.
Capacitive proximity sensors are non-contact devices that can detect the presence or absence of virtually any object regardless of the material. They utilize the electrical property of capacitance and the change of capacitance based on a change in the electrical field around the active face of the sensor.
Capacitive sensors are most often used to measure the change in position of a conductive target. But capacitive sensors can be effective in measuring presence, density, thickness, and location of non-conductors as well.
-The development of automatic conveyor belts around the middle of the century (1950), along with the start of industrial mass production, led to a rapid growth in the automation technology sector.
-Therefore, the best alternative to the mechanical contact switch that was in widespread use, was the technology of non-contact switching system which is the proximity sensors, that would ideally be noncontact, abrasion-resistant, and corrosion-resistant.
