PRESS RELEASE: Under embargo until Monday 7th April, 10am GMT (11am CET)
Startupbootcamp, Europe’s largest accelerator has today announced the launch of a new cross-
continental program connecting Berlin and San Francisco around the theme of Smart Transportation &
Energy – The Connected and Efficient Mobility of People and Goods.
Startupbootcamp Smart Transportation & Energy, a first-of-its-kind program, will see the existing
successful Berlin program pivot to the new vertical theme. A new program is being built in the US
aiming to launch in early 2015. Both will accelerate startups working in the areas of Smart Mobility and
Vehicles, Logistics and Supply, Location-Based Services, Sustainable Energy and Data Services, amongst
others (for a full list see below).
Each program will select the ten best startups from thousands of applicants across the globe and run a
three-month Startupbootcamp in Berlin (Fall) and San Francisco (Spring).
As with all Startupbootcamp programs, ten successful startups in each location will benefit from
extensive mentorship from 100+ entrepreneurs, investors, and corporate partners. Startupbootcamp
Smart Transportation and Energy has already brought key partners on board the program, including
HERE, the global maps and location intelligence business of Nokia; electric utilities company EnBW;
multinational automotive corporation Daimler; leading network provider Cisco Systems; Castrol’s
innoVentures, Castrol’s innovation arm, and leading global supplier of technology and services Bosch.
Each successful team will also receive €15,000 (over $20,600) and six months free office space in either
Berlin’s Rainmaking Loft, a 1,000sqm coworking space in the heart of the European startup capital, or in
the future San Francisco home of Startupbootcamp. In total, the perks and special offers are worth over
€400K ($550,000).
The Startupbootcamp Smart Transportation & Energy team is led by Startupbootcamp co-founder Alex
Farcet, who will be supporting both programs. Farcet ran the initial Startupbootcamp program in
Copenhagen and relocated to Berlin in 2012.
He said: “Smart Transportation & Energy is attracting some of the most innovative concepts and brilliant
minds in the startup world right now. Projects like Hyperloop and Amazon drones, and progress in
2. connected vehicles and augmented reality are sparking founder imagination and attracting investor
attention. We felt the time was ripe to focus on this booming vertical.
“By launching in both Berlin and San Francisco we can harness the power of our knowledge and networks
across two continents.”
