General Info– Coke, a soft drink created around 1886, is quickly booming into one of the most
recognizable brands in the world. It has spawned dozens of different flavors and merchandise.
However, it is a highly acidic substance, with a whopping 2.52 on the pH scale. The lower the pH
number, the higher the acidity. This is because of the acids that make up the drink, such as
phosphoric acid, added to give a tart flavor and thickness (or viscosity) to the drink.
Tylenol is a brand of acetaminophen that they used for the project. Acetaminophen is a crystalline
compound used in many brands of pills in order to relieve minor headaches and pains.
Acetaminophen is a small tablet with a melting point of 169°C–172°C (336°F–342°F).(Weinblatt

Why Is John Wayne A Good Role Model
John Wayne
One of the most famous western movie stars in the mid–1900's, John Wayne did not let his small
beginnings stop him from reaching his goals. He worked long and hard to reach his place in history
as the western star he was, and still is today. John Wayne's hard work, determination, and the ability
to achieve his goals, made him a great actor, person, and role model.
John Wayne's original name was Marion Robert Morrison, who was born on May 26, 1907, in
Winterset, Iowa. His parents were Mary Alberta Brown and Clyde Leonard Morrison. John had one
brother, Robert Morrison. His father, Clyde, developed a lung condition that required him to move
his family to the warmer climates of California when John was just seven. Clyde started ranching
and farming in the Mojave Desert, but did not succeed. The family moved again, to Glendale,
California where his father opened a pharmacy, in which John helped manage in the summer. He
also did many strange jobs to earn money, such as trucker's helper and delivery boy.
John had a famous nickname, "Duke." This nickname came from the family dog, an Airedale,
named, "Duke." John and Duke spent so much time together; people started calling
Ussery 2 them, "Big and Little Duke." Sadly, in 1926, his parents divorced, John stayed with his
father, Clyde.
In school, John excelled in school and at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first film he made was Angel and Barman in 1947. He operated two different production
companies, Wayne–Fellow Productions and Batjac Productions. His career took another boost when
he starred in Red River, directed by Howard Ford. This film helped him show people his skills as
not just a western hero, but as an actor. He played a troubled cattleman named Tom Dunson and
took on a more serious and darker character. At this time, John Wayne was also receiving praise
from the film, Fort Apache, in which he starred with Shirley Temple and Henry

Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Black Scholes Model
Introduction.
The essay will examine the strengths and weaknesses of the Black–Scholes model by first briefly
understanding its birth in an effort to look to the intention on which the model is created to fulfil.
This will then form the basis on which it will be assessed upon.
Then the essay will examine the model's growth of usage, describe how the model functions and
what it is used for, essentially outlining the model's strength. In so doing, the author will strive to
highlight the benefits and changes the model brought into the financial markets and the people who
uses it.
When evaluating the model's sustainability, the essay outlines the model's limits and applications
under certain conditions. Here, the author highlights the weaknesses of the model, both, within the
model itself as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, outside these conditions, and as in the cases where the volatility estimation is imprecise,
the model would obtain a price that may differ from its observed value.
Hence, the model merely deals with the pricing of the option but it is the trader that then has to
determine its value.
Conclusion
The Black–Scholes model can be used extremely well in the manner in which it was set out to do. It
is still used for many other variations. With newer and faster technologies, better algorithms and
cheaper transaction costs, the model may perform even better in its current deficiencies in high
volume calculations.
As with any mechanical tool, one has to remember that the model has no preferences and merely
calculates the data it is presented with. The user of the model would still have to evaluate that figure
alongside market conditions. The financial markets are made up of the human valuation of the assets
and humans deal with more than just numbers.
In the final analysis, the Black–Scholes model is a tool that must be used to compliment the party

Microbiology Pioneers
Contributors to Microbiology
Pioneers of Microbiology I. Antonie van Leeuwenhoek (Oct. 24, 1632– Aug. 30, 1723) A. In 1676
Leeuwenhoek saw tiny organisms in water, he was the first man to observe and describe bacteria
accurately. He discovered microscopic nematodes, blood cells and sperm. He also made over 500
microscopes to view specific objects. B. Microbiology is concerned with the study of all forms of
life that are too small to be seen with the naked eye. Antonie's work dealt with bacteria, which are
tiny microorganisms that can only be seen with the help of instruments like the microscope, which
he invented. II. John Tyndall (Aug. 2, 1820– Dec. 4, 1893) C. In 1877 Tyndall demonstrated that

IX. Matthias Schleiden (1804 – 1881) Q. Matthias was the first to recognize the importance of cells
as fundamental units of life. He stated that all plants are made of cells, which eventually help lead to
the creation of the cell theory. R. In 1838,he argued that all the various plants structures are
composed of cells or their derivatives (phytogenesis). X. Joseph Lister (1827 – 1912) S. In 1865
lister concluded that sepsis was akin to fermentation and was initiated by infectious agents, air–born.
In 1867 he shown that antiseptic procedures are very successful T. This discovering made it easier
for surgeons when performing an operations and prevents the patients from getting infected. This
operation marked a turning point in the acceptance of germ theory and antisepsis among physicians.
XI. Ernst Heinrich Philipp August Haeckel (Feb. 16, 1834 – Aug. 9, 1919) U. Ernst Haeckel
discovered, described and named thousands of new species, mapped an ancestral tree relating all life
forms, and coined many terms in biology including: anthropogeny, ecology, phylum, phylogeny,
stem cell, and the kingdom Protista. V. Haeckel promoted and popularized Charles Darwin 's work
in Germany and developed the controversial recapitulation theory claiming that an individual
organism 's biological development parallels and summarizes its species '

The Value of Genesis
Copious amounts of teenagers today have a habit of questioning books that are too 'old' or 'stuffy' to
apply to their everyday lives. Some of them may find correlations to works by William Shakespeare
or Jane Austen, but what about the other books, such as those from the Bible? Usually regarded as
too religious to have any connection to life, teens ignore these texts in favor of ones that they feel
can integrate into their lives with much more ease– even though some books in the Bible can
actually connect more to life than some of these other 'relative' works. Take, for example, the book
of Genesis. Although written and published thousands of years ago, the stories, themes, and
modern–day allusions contained within it can still apply to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This takes many ideas and themes from the stories contained in Genesis– mostly dealing with the
first few chapters– and applies them to modern and ancient theories alike. Beyond that, one of the
most recognizable allusions to Genesis would be that of C.S. Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia
series. In fact, all of the books in this series not only allude to Genesis, but to the entire Bible. Many,
many references and parallels can be drawn between Genesis and The Chronicles of Narnia– for
example, Aslan can be considered the 'God' of Narnia, as the Narnians refer to him as the creator of
the world. In addition, the White Witch portrays his opposite– the 'devil'– as she tries to tempt the
Pevensie children several times throughout the series (also a reference to the temptation of Adam
and Eve). Humans are also referred to as "Son[s] of Adam" (Lewis, 39) and "Daughter[s] of Eve"
(Lewis, 15), another reference to Genesis. Furthermore, many poems allude to Adam and Eve, like
Robert Frost's Never Again Would the Bird's Song Be The Same, which mentions Eve in the line,
"From having heard the daylong voice of Eve" (Frost, line 3). Anthony Hecht's Naming the Animals
offers the apparent descriptions of Adam naming all of the animals that God gave him domain over.
Beyond just Adam and Eve, Jacob Russell's poem How Jacob Loved centers around Jacob, Leah,
and Rachel. Even if you

The World Tourism Organization ( Untwo )
The world tourism organisation (UNTWO) states: "tourism comprises the activities of persons
travelling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive
year for leisure, business and other purposes not related to the exercise of an activity remunerated
from within the place visited." Throughout this essay the concept of tourism will be discussed using
a systems approach as well as using Neil Leiper's 'basic whole tourism system' (Leiper, 2004)
theory. The vulnerability of the open tourism system to periodic disruption will also be looked at
through the example of The September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks on The United States of America.
9/11 as it is referred to today, was an event that shocked the world. Four airplanes were hijacked by
the Islamic extremist group, al–Qaeda, and carried out suicide attacks in the United States. Over
3,000 people were killed because of these attacks as well as the tourism industry suffering
worldwide and the American employment and economy declining significantly.
The tourism system is complex. Tourism has been analysed using a systems approach since the
1960s – the idea that a single structure is comprised of multiple related and dependent groups. Key
to this approach is the idea of interdependence; because everything is related, a change in one
component of the system will affect other components in the system. Neil Leiper designed a 'basic
whole tourism system' (Leiper, 2004) that showed tourism

ABSTRACT: Diamond Foods is America's largest walnut processor specializing in processing,
marketing, and distributing nuts and snack products. This real–world case presents financial
reporting issues around the commodities cost shifting strategy used by Diamond's management to
falsify earnings. By delaying the recognition of a portion of the cost of walnuts acquired into later
accounting periods, Diamond Foods materially underreported the cost of sales and overstated
earnings in fiscal 2010 and 2011. The primary learning goal ... Show more content on

Enzymes and pH Concentration
Enzymes and pH Concentration
Abstract
Enzymes are high molecular weight molecules and are proteins in nature. Enzymes work as
catalysts in biochemical reactions in living organisms. Enzyme Catecholase is found on in plants,
animals as well as fungi and is responsible for the darkening of different fruits. In most cases
enzymatic activities are influenced by a number of factors, among them is temperature, PH, enzyme
concentration as well as substrate concentration (Silverthorn, 2004). In this experiment enzyme
catecholase was used to investigate the effects of PH and enzyme concentration on it rate of
reaction. A pH buffer was used to control the PH, potato juice was used as the substrate and water
was used as a solvent.
The experiments involved PH buffers of different pH were added to potato juice, water, and the
enzyme catecholase. The mixture was then subjected to spectrophotometer at a wavelength of
420nm taking the absorbance readings. In the second experiment, a phosphate buffer of PH 7.0 was
used in different measures together with different measurement of potato juice and the enzyme
catecholase then subjected to the spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 420nm. The data collected
inform of table and analyzed using descriptive statistics such as line graph and later interpreted,
showing that PH and enzyme concentration do affect the rate of enzyme reaction

Evaluation of Books on String Theory
A String Method Book Evaluation
Three different methods books; "Muller Rusch String Method," "Action with Strings," and "
Essential Elements for strings," revealed three very different approaches to learning. The influence
of time is greatly noticeable in comparing and contrasting these three approaches. "Essential
Elements for Strings" was published in 1994 and the other two books in the 1960's. After many
years of studying education the approach to teaching students how to play an instrument has greatly
improved. The increased knowledge in educational psychology is evident through comparing
"Essential Elements for Strings" to the other two. The student learns best through a step by step
guide to this new endeavor. The student ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is no complete fingering chart available, ensemble music included, or illustration of correct
sitting posture. Technical problems are not introduced logically. Directions are given simply and
clearly but the order is incorrect in teaching effectively. There is a great improvement in instruction
compared to the first methods book introduced but also room for much needed changes such as
logical steps.
In "Essential Elements for Strings" by Allen, Gillespie, and Hayes, instructions are clear and logical.
The parts of the instrument and bow are introduced and care of the instrument is defined clearly. The
book introduces skills with directions and illustrations that help build up to effectively playing the
instrument. Basic music vocabulary is introduced and the student is instructed to play pizzicato on
the open strings. Learning to play pizzicato is much more effective than immediately playing with
the bow as in the other two books. The note names are inscribed in the note heads to help the student
associate the location of the notes on the staff as well as learn the names. The wonderful finger
pattern is then introduced to teach E, F#, and G on the D string. The pattern is illustrated as well as
described. The book then uses an effective method of holding the bow by practicing on a pencil with
illustrations and clear instructions. Different exercises help to hold the bow

Religious Experiences are in the Mind of the Believer Essays
Religious Experiences are in the Mind of the Believer
"A religious experience is a spontaneous or induced mental event over which the
recipient has relatively little control. It is often accompanied with the gaining of
certain knowledge and the experience is always unique."[1] Elton Trueblood's
definition of a religious experience is very broad, including any experience of feelings
of 'love, power, glory or strength from God.' This differs from a simple experience
which can be defined as "an event or series of events participated in or lived through,
especially one that makes a powerful impression on the mind and sense."[2]
It is obvious that religious experiences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When people try to describe an experience
of God they tend to make comparisons which raises problems philosophically, and
many argue that the analogies have weaknesses.
The definitions of mystical experience used by researchers and clinicians vary
considerably, ranging from Neumann's (1964) "upheaval of the total personality" to
Greesley's (1974) "spiritual force that seems to lift you out of yourself" to
Scharfstein's (1973) "everyday mysticism." William James created four
characteristics which he believed will enable people to identify mystical experiences,
a term that is used in a vast variety of contexts. These include ineffability, noetic
quality, transciency and passivity. From James' four characteristics, mystical
experiences are concerned with noetic quality and transciency. Noetic quality refers
to knowledge that is gained through intuition and perception however not in the
conventional manner, whilst transciency refers to the duration of the experience; it
appears that most religious experiences last between a few minutes and two hours.
However the effect and the significance are out of proportion to its physical duration.
The fact they can last up to several

and resolve disputes in short period of time, with minimum expenses, and less negative publicity.
CEO 's Action Regarding Bates ' Dispute
As CEO of Alumina Inc., the decision to consider defending the lawsuit filed by Kelly Bates and
settling the case depends on a variety of factors. The CEO has to weigh the cost and time involved
in litigation, likelihood of a favorable outcome, and the negative publicity associated with the suit.
Kelly Bates alleges that the dumping of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) into Lake Dira by
Alumina Inc. caused her daughter 's leukemia. The health of Kelly Bates ' daughter will touch the

by the media may create a sympathetic jury pool and thus Alumina Inc. may not get a fair trial.
Alumina Inc. could lose millions of dollars in legal fees, expert opinions, research costs, loss of
clients because of the negative publicity, and ultimately the jury could award the Bates ' family
millions in compensatory and punitive damages.

Smoking and The Human Body Essay examples
Smoking is a bad habit which plagues the young, as well as the old. It is the largest source of
preventable mortality in North America1. Not only does smoking lead to an early grave, but it can
also influence one's daily life. Many studies have revealed links between smoking and reduced
endurance capacity2. Nicotine, the addictive agent found in cigarettes, can also be used to control
weight gain.
Both of these factors can have considerable effect on the sporting world. There have been many
studies done, indicating that if you smoked, you did less physical activity. It has also been shown
that the more you smoke, the less activity you do. In one experiment done on smokers and non–

Many sports and activities require the athlete to do notable amounts of work and expend a fair
amount of energy.
When an athlete smokes, they will not be able to get the required oxygen to the necessary parts of
the body, and therefore will not perform as well. It has been proven that even if you have smoked,
when you quit smoking your levels of physical activity will increase8. When taking a glimpse of all
the top athletes in the world, it can be noted that none of them are frequent tobacco product users.
Another aspect of smoking and the human body is the effect of nicotine on body weight. Nicotine,
the drug found in cigarettes, is usually what tends to get smokers addicted to tobacco products.
Through many different experiments, it has been shown that smokers tend to weigh less than non–
smokers9.
These tests were done not only by measurement of weight, but by multiple skinfold thickness
assessments. In a study done on rats, it was determined that nicotine exposed rats had significantly
less carcass fat, suggesting that nicotine effects fat stores. The more nicotine which was given, the
less fat the rats had. It was hypothesized that nicotine effected these fat stores was by altering key
enzymes in the regulation and uptake of triglycerides such as adipose–tissue lipoprotein lipase10.
When dealing with humans, one study found that smokers had 2.8% lower total body fat than non–
smokers11.

How Did Crispus Attucks Change In The Boston Massacre
African American–Centric America
The first example of African Americans working against the institution of slavery and towards
freedom and equality is Crispus Attucks' role in the Boston Massacre. In summary, Attucks shared
common "anti–British" sentiment after parliament enforced tight restrictions on American trade in
Boston, negatively affecting the business of seaman in the area. On the night of March 5th, 1770, a
crowd armed with clubs and sticks forcefully surrounded a group of British troops. Crispus,
frustrated with British Parliamentary oppression, hit a soldier causing the regiment to open fire. It is
what happened following his death, though, that made Crispus Attucks a key member of the
dismantlement of institutions such as slavery and the creation of the emancipation movement.
Crispus Attucks was declared the first martyr of the American Revolution by Samuel Adams and his
coffin was carried to the Faneuil Hall or the "Cradle of Liberty". At least 10,000 colonials mourned
the loss, admiring the bravery shown by Attucks and the other killed protesters by accompanying the
four hearses to Boston's Middle Burying Ground. This attack fueled the American efforts in the
revolution, leading to succession from British rule. Although occurring in 1770, Bostonians
commemorated those lost in the massacre well into the 1840s, being revived in 1858 during the
protests against the Dred Scott v. Stanford decision. At this same time, African Americans in

Write a program (in MATLAB or C/C++) to calculate the put option price p given data for the strike
price X, risk–free interest rate r, volatility σ and time to expiry T.
Do this by writing the Black–Scholes Equation as a finite–difference equation and then integrating
backwards in time from the expiry date to find the put price, given the current spot price.
Use the following IBM put option figures to do so;
Current IBM spot price (As of November 28th 2015): S0=£138.50
Risk–free interest rate: r=1.0% per Annum

Effects of Temperature, pH, Enzyme Concentration, and Substrate Concentration on Enzymatic
Activity
INTRODUCTION
Enzymes, proteins that act as catalysts, are the most important type of protein[1]. Catalysts speed up
chemical reactions and can go without being used up or changed [3] Without enzymes, the
biochemical reactions that take place will react too slowly to keep up with the metabolic needs and
the life functions of organisms. Catecholase is a reaction between oxygen and catechol [2]. In the
presence of oxygen, the removal of two hydrogen atoms oxidizes the compound catechol, as a result
of the formation of water [2]. Oxygen is reduced by the addition of two hydrogen atoms, which also
forms water, after catechol is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hypothesis is as the substrate concentration has an increase so will the reaction of velocity if the
amount of enzyme is kept constant.
MATERIALS AND METHODS To study the effects of temperature, pH, enzyme concentration, and
substrate concentration there were certain steps that were followed in order to conduct this
experiment. Each factor had a separate procedure to follow to find how each had a different effect
on the enzyme.
To find the effect of temperature on the activity of an enzyme, the experiment deals with the steps as
follows. First, 3 mL if pH 7 phosphate buffer was used to fill three different test tubes that were
labeled 10, 24, and 50. These three test tubes were set in three different temperature settings. The
first test tube was placed in an ice–water bath for ten minutes until it reached a temperature of 2° C
or less. The second tube's temperature setting was at room temperature until a temperature of 21°C
was reached. The third tube was placed in a beaker of warm–water until the contents of the beaker
reached a temperature setting of 60° C. There were four more test tubes that were included in the
procedure. Two of the test tubes contained potato juice were one was put in ice and the other was
placed in warm–water. The other two test tubes contained catechol. One test tube was put in ice and
the other in warm water. After

13 November 2014 Introduction
Daphnia magna, arthropods of the subphylum Crustacea, are widely used during laboratory
experiments because they are very sensitive to many environmental parameters including
temperature and chemical contaminants (Cornell, 2009). In this experiment, Daphnia magna were
tested under different experimental factors, including temperature changes and exposure to different
chemical, in order to observe the effect of environmental conditions on their heart rate.
Generally, kinetic energy increases as temperature increases causing molecules ... Show more

Regarding temperature changes, the null hypothesis is that their heart rate will remain constant
regardless of increasing or decreasing the external temperature of the Daphnia. The alternative
hypothesis is that the heart rate will increase with more heat and will decrease with a decrease a
decrease in temperature, meaning that heart rate and temperature are directly related. In regards to
the chemicals acetylcholine and epinephrine, the null hypothesis is that both chemicals will have no
effect on the heart rate of the Daphnia. In contrast, the alternative hypothesis is that their heart rate

What Is The Theme Of Mrs Frisby
"Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH" is a story about a group of animals on a farm who do
everything in their power to salvage their home. Mrs. Frisby is the head of the farm who everyone
turns too because she is so kind and loving. Lately, it hasn't been easy for Mrs., Frisby because she
has been caring for her very sick son. In efforts to help him get better, she seeks out Mr., Agnes, a
wise mouse, for some medicine that will work its magic on her son Timothy. Although things begin
looking up for Timothy's well being, summer was quickly approaching and Timothy was in charge
of changing over their home for the summer time so they wouldn't be plowed by the farmers. When

This storyline was all based around moving Mrs. Frisby home to safety in order to steer clear of
plowing season. Throughout the story, we are able to witness Mrs. Frisby go to extreme lengths to
save her home and keep her family happy. Although it is not an easy process, Mrs. Frisby never
gave up. Her home was her safety net and the place where her family could all be together. Mrs.
Frisby and her children were especially lucky to even have a house. Although it was a slightly
damaged cinder block, the hollow kind with two ovals through it, but it was the place they called
home and they would make it work no matter what the season (pg. 38). There was no way she was
going to let it all be destroyed by the farmers. Instead of relocating, she travels all over to find a way
to solve her problem, which, in the end, is accomplished. In comparison to the impact Mrs. Frisby's
home has on her life, the rats of NIMH don't really have a set home. They are not dependent on one
certain place, which is why they come up with a plan to re–locate when they find out the rosebush is
going to be torn down. To them, home is wherever they can live independently or create a place for
themselves. At this stage in their life, they are more focused on trying to be independent enough so
they don't have to depend on anyone for anything. They are highly trained to live and work in any
condition. Unlike Mrs. Frisby, they are willing to

Hall Harris III reverberates a similar conclusion based on the words used in verse 54. Despite the
literal meaning of the word trwvgwn being to "eat noisily, often used of animals ("gnaw," "nibble,"
"munch"). When used with reference to people, it often has the idea of enjoyment (Matt 24:38) and
close comradeship." Both these commentators explain how even a literal meaning of a word kept in
context would not mean physical eating but fellowship. Fifth, Donald C. Flemming states in his
commentary "Many of the people who followed Jesus found his teaching about the bread of life

If a person took eating and drinking Christ's body literal, "the passage would be cannibalistic and
repulsive, thus requiring a spiritual understanding of it. It is a metaphorical reference to the soul–
saving benefit procured on behalf of the human family by Christ's atoning death on the cross and the
shedding of his blood. The eating and drinking refer to the soul's proper appropriation of that
benefit. Constable also so writes, "Jesus introduced a new metaphor for believing on Him, namely,
eating His flesh. The following pericope is highly metaphorical." Other commentators focus on the
fact that even if a person did "even eat my flesh and drink my blood, this would not avail for your
salvation. These words contain a caution that the hearers should not understand his words in the
strict literal sense, as if his body were really Bread, and as if his flesh and blood were really to be
eaten and drank." Adam Clarke states, "It is easy to dismiss the literal sense of this by the clearer
statement that "the flesh profit it

The Affects of Temperature on Amount of Oxygen, Mung Beans...
Title:
Amount of Oxygen, Mung Beans (Vigna Radiata) Consume during Cellular Respiration
Introduction:
Cellular respiration is a catabolic reaction that refers to the process of converting chemical energy of
organic molecules into a simplify form so it can be used immediately by organism. Glucose may be
oxidized completely if sufficient oxygen is available, by the following equation:
C6H12O6 + 36 ADP + 36Pi + 6O2(g) 6 H2O + 6 CO2(g) + 38 ATP + heat
All organisms, including plants and animals, oxidize glucose for energy. Often, this energy is used
to convert ADP and phosphate into ATP. The process of complete oxidation involves glycolysis,
Krebs cycle and electron transport chain. Besides ATP, pyruvate molecules, NADH and FADH2 will

the control, shifted away from zero, the differences were recorded and adjusted in the data table. For
accuracy purposes, the measure in the control tube, that had deviated from zero, was added and
deducted, from the data of the Mung bean seeds. The syringe was then adjusted so that KOH was
seated at zero, at all times (Daynk, 2012).
When the final readings were recorded, the stoppers were removed. The Mung beans seeds were
carefully removed as well and weighed on the scale. All data from the 5–minute interval at 40
minutes total, were recorded. This included both treatments. The means of the data were taken down

World War 2 Watershed

for the Civil Rights Movement?" In the introduction it describes a "watershed" event as an event that
marks a change of course from the past that can be considered either positive or negative depending
on the point of view. Writer Neil A. Wynn debates that the era was a watershed; wheres writer
Harvard Sitkoff argues that it was not. In my opinion, After reading both arguments, I agree with
Wynn. In 1939, African Americans were segregated from the white men and were only allowed to
serve in the four regular army units that had been established after the civil war. A year later, Walter

The Magna Carta
Nathanael Sterner
Mr. Whitaker
HIST 102
November 22, 2017
The Signing of the Magna Carta Those in our country that teach about the United States government
will at one point bring up the signing of the Magna Carta as a pivotal point in the establishing the
principle of the government is accountable to the laws of the common man. Before this point the
king sat on high and dictated how people were to live there lives alongside the church while not
being held accountable to the laws that he made. This lead to great resentment when a king was seen
as tyrannical. So the Magna Carta or 'the Great Charter' was created to help curb the King John II of
England when he wanted to continue the war with France, set boundaries on what the king could do
without the consent of the 'council', and bind the ruler of the land to his subjects in such a way that
he had to obey his own rules. In the time leading up to the signing of the 'Great Charter' King John
had lost his holdings in France after several unsuccessful military endeavors. To help reclaim these
holdings King John demanded that his barons provide him with more men and money to take the
land back. However he did this without forewarning his barons about the increasing demand that he
was placing on taxes and levies. The barons then thought that they were being wronged by the
feudal system and that the king was not upholding his end of the deal. In addition to this when King
John could not get his money he cracked down on

These models are very similar, they are based on similar theoretical foundations and have a series of
assumptions, such as; Geometric Brownian Motion and risk–neutral valuation. However, both
models have unique differences which are foundational in there model, some of which are
highlighted below.

In the Cox and Rubinstein method explained above, once n →∞ you gain approximations for your
mean and variance, this suggests given a period of time the mean and variance of this model will
approximately be a close match in a risk neutral world. Tian suggested to match the first three
moments of the binomial model to the first three moments of a lognormal distribution. This is using
the mean, variance and skewness being the first raw moment, second central moment and third
central moment respectively. The Tian tree could be parameterized so that it could be interpreted
more fundamentally as a binomial tree in which every other period were simply skipped. Which
leads to three equations, which when we solve we gain the following parameters. pu^3+(1–p) d^3=
(〖e^(r△t))〗^3 (〖e^(σ^2△t))〗^3 pu^2+(1–p) d^2=(〖e^(r△t))〗^2 e^(σ^2△t) u=〖0.5e〗
^(r△t) υ(υ+1+√(υ^2+2υ–3)),d=〖0.5e〗^(r△t) υ(υ+1–√(υ^2+2υ–3)) p= (e^(r△t)–d)/(u–
d),υ=e^(σ^2△t)
Leisen and Reimer decided to try and establish and method which improves the binomial tree
model. They developed a model by improving the rate which the binomial tree converges to. In real
terms, they suggested to change probabilities of an up move in both stock and bond measures which
leads to the up and down moves. Leisen–Reimer tree is calculated using the following parameters:

Why Should Athletes Be Paid?
Gracie was in the final round of her gymnastics competition. The judges were announcing the first
place winner now. "...... in second place. And last but not least, in first place..... Gracie!!" Gracie
jumped in the air as her ponytail began flopping on her head. She ran up to get her trophy. After all
this, she looked around and noticed that second place, third place, fourth place, fifth place, all the

foot high structure with the stars at the top, the blue lettering spelling out "great job" in the middle,
the coloring, were ALL the same. Suddenly, she did not feel as much of a winner. She wondered
why the people who did not work hard, goofed around during practice, and fell more than once
during their routine got the same reward as she did... the one who worked hard everyday. The one
who took her preparation very seriously. The one who practiced for perfection each day. So, why
should inattentive people be rewarded with the same thing as the dedicated people? Why should
athletes work hard when they know that everyone will get a trophy anyway? Of course, there ...

Black Scholes Pricing Model
In 1973, Myron Scholes and Fisher Black developed the framework on option pricing and presented
the theory in their seminal paper. With reference to both approach and application the Black Scholes
Model is considered to be one of the most significant concepts in modern financial theory. For
valuing options the Black Sholes Model is viewed as a standard model.
Assumptions
To compute the value of a stock option the Black–Scholes Option Pricing Model is used. Both call
and put option can be calculated with the help of the model. For the accurate application of the
Black Scholes Pricing Model it is necessary to be familiar with its assumptions. Black and Scholes
specified the following assumptions in their seminal paper (1973). (Ray, 2012)
I. Constant volatility
Volatility refers to the movement of the stock price whether upwards or downwards. The model
assumes that the volatility does not change and is known to market participants. This implies that
the variance of the return remains constant over the life of the option.
II. No Dividends
The model assumes that the underlying asset (stock) does not pay any dividends during the option's
life.
III. European exercise terms are

1973). This model has great importance on how traders determine the price and ways to hedge
derivatives since the 1970's (Hull, 2012), and led to other derivative instruments that have similar
characteristics to option. Fundamentally, the Black–Scholes model make sure of a simple formula to
determine the price of an option contract using the underlying asset's price and its volatility, the
strike price and the market risk–free interest rate (Merton, 1973).
An option is a contract to buy or sell a specific financial product which the value is derived ... Show

Nonetheless, Black–Scholes model remains popularly used for estimating the price of European
style options. In fact, the Black–Scholes theory has been used as a standard in the financial world
(Ray, 2012). The weakness of the Black–Scholes model will be evaluated in later sections together
with solutions to tackle some of these limitations.
3. Strengths
The Black–Scholes model is widely used due to the following strengths:
1. The formula is considerably easy to calculate. The call option price subjects to only five
parameters which are deducible or measureable. It uses simple mathematical terms and option prices
can be calculated within a short period of time.
2. It gives a very good approximation despite not perfectly correct due to the non–constant volatility.
The model helps to give a first approximation in establishing hedges in the correct ratios to
minimise risk. In addition, the non–constant variables, which are reflected as the Greeks, could be
hedged to mitigate the risk associated with these parameters.
3. It provides a fundamental framework for future research to extend or refine it. Many literatures
have be subsequently produced to evaluate the claims of the

How Did Cornelius Vanderbilt Change America
During the Industrial Revolution, businesses, jobs, and manufacturing started to prosper rapidly. As
the businesses started growing, so did the economy. The power and wealth of business leaders
dramatically increased which had a great influence and became vital to the growth of the American
economy. One of the very famous business leaders during the Industrial Revolution was Cornelius
Vanderbilt. Cornelius Vanderbilt was a captain of industry who helped to make America strong.
Cornelius Vanderbilt was the the leader of steamboats and railroads who built important
infrastructures in the 1800s that helped the American economy to thrive. According to Charles R.
Geisst in his article Vanderbilt, Cornelius, before Vanderbilt entered the steamship industry, he
already owned a shipping business, but due to its unprofitable future because of the competition
with the newly introduced steamboats, he decided to sell all of his current ships and decided to enter
the steamship industry business. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
" In 1873, he continued to expand his railroad business and he acquired the Lake Shore and
Michigan Southern, which he merged with the New York Central in order to provide uninterrupted
service between New York City and Chicago Illinois, via Buffalo, Cleveland, and Detroit" (Charles).
This made transportation of goods and people more efficient and just proved how powerful
Vanderbilt when it comes to purchasing power. Cornelius Vanderbilt is also considered a
philanthropist even though he made a little bit of contributions compared to other business leaders.
During the Civil War, he helped the federal government fight its enemies, the Confederates, by
donating his ships to them. He also funded $1,000,000 to build Vanderbilt University in Tennessee

The Effects of Ph and Concentration Levels on Catecholase...
Abstract This lab was performed in order to discover the activity of the enzyme catecholase in
different pH levels as well as its absorbance in differently concentrated solutions. A
spetrophotometer was used to measure the absorbance of the enzyme catecholase in different pH
solutions as well as to measure the absorbance of catecholase in solutions with different
concentrations of potato juice and phosphate buffers. Absorbance of the enzyme catecholase was at
an optimum level when pH was close to neutral. When pH was acidic or basic, the catecholase was
less effective. Also, when there was a higher concentration of potato juice and a lower concentration
of phosphate buffer, absorbance of the enzyme increased.

ISIS Recruiting Tactics
Following the invasion of Iraq in 2003 and the political void left in its wake, a rapid formation of
extreme Islamic groups occurred within and surrounding Iraq. Growing in power continuously ISIS
(The Islamic state of Iraq and Syria), created Abu Mus'ab al–Zarqawi (McCants 2015:10), would
become the center topic in geopolitical conversations regarding terrorism and extremism within the
U.S. Revisiting the U.S prior to the turn of the 21st century in the 1970s and on, Gang violence was
the main wildfire problem within U.S boarders due to the growing drug market and "culture wars"
stemming from marginalized groups establishing their own agendas (culture of gangs 45). Within

In the formation of an individual suitable for either Gang or terror violence my hypothesis relies on
the idea that in order for a person to embrace a violent group a strain must be placed upon their life
or society. Durkheim's anomie stated that if an individual becomes disassociated with his means of
production or the significance of his production then the individual becomes detached from their
society or their social identity (Giddens 1972:180) Furthering this Agnew states that strains or
stressors laid upon an individual increase the possibility of negative emotions such as anger,
frustration, or spite. The creation of these emotions act as the catalyst for an individual to take action
against their strain or stressor usually in the form of violence (Agnew 1992) following Agnew and
Durkheim my research will also be formed utilizing the transitions written by Neil Smelser in his
book "The Faces of Terrorism". The transitions that Smelser writes about attempt to model
"terrorism behavior as a series of transitions from extremely general processes involved in the
genesis of terrorism to its specific manifestations." (Smelser 2009:

The Battle of Takur Ghar
"Roberts Ridge"
Operation Anaconda, 03 – 04 March 2002

Abstract
In the late evening of March 3rd 2002, through to the evening of March 4th 2002, Special
Operation Forces were engaged in an intense fire fight with al Qaeda forces on a mountain top
known as Takur Ghar. This battle was the product of a botched reconnaissance insertion and
ultimately resulted in a 24 hour fire fight and the deaths of 7 U.S. service members and over 200 al
Qaeda fighters. Navy SEAL, Neil C. Roberts is believed to be the first U.S. casualty of this battle
and thus, the battle also became unofficially known as "Roberts Ridge" (1).

The ramp gunner was tethered to the aircraft and was retrieved back inside by the remaining
passengers. Roberts fell from the aircraft and was believed to still be alive as the aircraft was only
10 feet off of the ground at the time it came under fire.
The helicopter was forced to crash land in the valley and now was 7 kilometers away from the
mountain top. Roberts was now completely alone amongst an overwhelming enemy force and it is
believed that he fought in place until he was eventually over run by the enemy (3).
The downed SEALs were picked up by RAZOR 04 and at 0500, again attempted to reinsert at
Roberts' last known position. Now they were only a team of 5 with the addition of Air
Force CCT Chapman. The aircraft was able to insert the team but again came under heavy fire and
was also rendered mission incapable and had to fly back to its origin due to the damage that it
sustained. The team moved to the high ground of the mountain engaging and killing 2 combatants,
they then realized that they were standing in the middle of multiple bunkers as they came under
heavy cross fire from only 20 meters away. Acoording to the official report,
Chapman was fatally wounded almost immediately and 2 others would also become wounded as
they attempted to break contact. An AC–130 was able to provide covering fire and enabled the
SEALS to disengage. Wounded and

The Atomic Bomb
The Atomic Bomb
Albert Einstein predicted that mass could be converted into energy. This was the basis for the atomic
bomb. Throughout this research paper, I will trace the history of the atomic bomb. In addition, who
was involved and why, what happened in this event, and explain the impact that it had on the world.
After Einstein predicted, that mass could be converted into energy. This was confirmed
experimentally by John D. Cockcroft and Ernest Walton. "Physicists from 1939 onward conducted
much research to find answers to questions as how many neutrons were emitted in each fission and
which elements would not capture the neutrons but would moderate or reduce the velocity" (Grolier

This was critical to the making of the atom bomb. He joined the Manhattan Project as an overseer to
the scientists and a consultant to them as well.
Enrico passed away in November of 1954. If it was not for this man, I believe that the atom bomb
would not have been successful. He held an essential position in the "Manhattan Project" Joseph C.
Carter was born on September 28, 1910. He went to the United States Naval Academy and at age
18, he went to Columbia. At Columbia, he worked under General Leslie Groves. Carter and others
constructed a pilot version of the atomic bomb. He and others were major assets to the Manhattan
Project.
Neils Bohr was born in 1885 in Denmark. He went to the University of Copenhagen where he
studied physics. In 1911 he got his Ph.D. Neils presented the fact that the fission chain reaction need
u–235 to be possible. He fled and went to America to work on the Manhattan Project. Bohr wanted
people to know that the effects of nuclear bombs were good and bad. He asked the UN to rid
themselves of nuclear weapon Projects. He later died in November 1962.
General Groves bought land in Oakridge, Tennessee. This is where he had Oppenhemier start work
on the Atomic bomb. The majority of the planning took place in Manhattan.
That is where the research was done, and things were designed. Oakridge is where they made the
main material, U–235 and PU–239 was manufactured. In Los Alamos, New Mexico was the place of

References/Bibliography –Intro/purpose General Info– Coke, a soft drink created around 1886, is quickly booming into one of the most recognizable brands in the world. It has spawned dozens of different flavors and merchandise. However, it is a highly acidic substance, with a whopping 2.52 on the pH scale. The lower the pH number, the higher the acidity. This is because of the acids that make up the drink, such as phosphoric acid, added to give a tart flavor and thickness (or viscosity) to the drink. Tylenol is a brand of acetaminophen that they used for the project. Acetaminophen is a crystalline compound used in many brands of pills in order to relieve minor headaches and pains. • 3. Why Is John Wayne A Good Role Model John Wayne One of the most famous western movie stars in the mid–1900's, John Wayne did not let his small beginnings stop him from reaching his goals. He worked long and hard to reach his place in history as the western star he was, and still is today. John Wayne's hard work, determination, and the ability to achieve his goals, made him a great actor, person, and role model. John Wayne's original name was Marion Robert Morrison, who was born on May 26, 1907, in Winterset, Iowa. His parents were Mary Alberta Brown and Clyde Leonard Morrison. John had one brother, Robert Morrison. His father, Clyde, developed a lung condition that required him to move his family to the warmer climates of California when John was just seven. Clyde started ranching and farming in the Mojave Desert, but did not succeed. The family moved again, to Glendale, California where his father opened a pharmacy, in which John helped manage in the summer. He also did many strange jobs to earn money, such as trucker's helper and delivery boy. John had a famous nickname, "Duke." This nickname came from the family dog, an Airedale, named, "Duke." John and Duke spent so much time together; people started calling Ussery 2 them, "Big and Little Duke." Sadly, in 1926, his parents divorced, John stayed with his father, Clyde. In school, John excelled in school and at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first film he made was Angel and Barman in 1947. • 5. Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Black Scholes Model Introduction. The essay will examine the strengths and weaknesses of the Black–Scholes model by first briefly understanding its birth in an effort to look to the intention on which the model is created to fulfil. This will then form the basis on which it will be assessed upon. Then the essay will examine the model's growth of usage, describe how the model functions and what it is used for, essentially outlining the model's strength. In so doing, the author will strive to highlight the benefits and changes the model brought into the financial markets and the people who uses it. When evaluating the model's sustainability, the essay outlines the model's limits and applications under certain conditions. Here, the author highlights the weaknesses of the model, both, within the model itself as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, outside these conditions, and as in the cases where the volatility estimation is imprecise, the model would obtain a price that may differ from its observed value. Hence, the model merely deals with the pricing of the option but it is the trader that then has to determine its value. Conclusion The Black–Scholes model can be used extremely well in the manner in which it was set out to do. It is still used for many other variations. With newer and faster technologies, better algorithms and cheaper transaction costs, the model may perform even better in its current deficiencies in high volume calculations. As with any mechanical tool, one has to remember that the model has no preferences and merely calculates the data it is presented with. The user of the model would still have to evaluate that figure alongside market conditions. The financial markets are made up of the human valuation of the assets and humans deal with more than just numbers. In the final analysis, the Black–Scholes model is a tool that must be used to compliment the party using ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1676 Leeuwenhoek saw tiny organisms in water, he was the first man to observe and describe bacteria accurately. He discovered microscopic nematodes, blood cells and sperm. He also made over 500 microscopes to view specific objects. B. Microbiology is concerned with the study of all forms of life that are too small to be seen with the naked eye. Antonie's work dealt with bacteria, which are tiny microorganisms that can only be seen with the help of instruments like the microscope, which he invented. II. • 9. The Value of Genesis Copious amounts of teenagers today have a habit of questioning books that are too 'old' or 'stuffy' to apply to their everyday lives. Some of them may find correlations to works by William Shakespeare or Jane Austen, but what about the other books, such as those from the Bible? Usually regarded as too religious to have any connection to life, teens ignore these texts in favor of ones that they feel can integrate into their lives with much more ease– even though some books in the Bible can actually connect more to life than some of these other 'relative' works. Take, for example, the book of Genesis. Although written and published thousands of years ago, the stories, themes, and modern–day allusions contained within it can still apply to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This takes many ideas and themes from the stories contained in Genesis– mostly dealing with the first few chapters– and applies them to modern and ancient theories alike. Beyond that, one of the most recognizable allusions to Genesis would be that of C.S. Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia series. In fact, all of the books in this series not only allude to Genesis, but to the entire Bible. Many, many references and parallels can be drawn between Genesis and The Chronicles of Narnia– for example, Aslan can be considered the 'God' of Narnia, as the Narnians refer to him as the creator of the world. In addition, the White Witch portrays his opposite– the 'devil'– as she tries to tempt the Pevensie children several times throughout the series (also a reference to the temptation of Adam and Eve). Humans are also referred to as "Son[s] of Adam" (Lewis, 39) and "Daughter[s] of Eve" (Lewis, 15), another reference to Genesis. Furthermore, many poems allude to Adam and Eve, like Robert Frost's Never Again Would the Bird's Song Be The Same, which mentions Eve in the line, "From having heard the daylong voice of Eve" (Frost, line 3). Anthony Hecht's Naming the Animals offers the apparent descriptions of Adam naming all of the animals that God gave him domain over. • 13. The World Tourism Organization ( Untwo ) The world tourism organisation (UNTWO) states: "tourism comprises the activities of persons travelling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes not related to the exercise of an activity remunerated from within the place visited." Throughout this essay the concept of tourism will be discussed using a systems approach as well as using Neil Leiper's 'basic whole tourism system' (Leiper, 2004) theory. The vulnerability of the open tourism system to periodic disruption will also be looked at through the example of The September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks on The United States of America. 9/11 as it is referred to today, was an event that shocked the world. Four airplanes were hijacked by the Islamic extremist group, al–Qaeda, and carried out suicide attacks in the United States. Over 3,000 people were killed because of these attacks as well as the tourism industry suffering worldwide and the American employment and economy declining significantly. The tourism system is complex. Tourism has been analysed using a systems approach since the 1960s – the idea that a single structure is comprised of multiple related and dependent groups. Key to this approach is the idea of interdependence; because everything is related, a change in one component of the system will affect other components in the system. Neil Leiper designed a 'basic whole tourism system' (Leiper, 2004) that showed tourism ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Enzymes and pH Concentration Enzymes and pH Concentration Abstract Enzymes are high molecular weight molecules and are proteins in nature. Enzymes work as catalysts in biochemical reactions in living organisms. Enzyme Catecholase is found on in plants, animals as well as fungi and is responsible for the darkening of different fruits. In most cases enzymatic activities are influenced by a number of factors, among them is temperature, PH, enzyme concentration as well as substrate concentration (Silverthorn, 2004). In this experiment enzyme catecholase was used to investigate the effects of PH and enzyme concentration on it rate of reaction. A pH buffer was used to control the PH, potato juice was used as the substrate and water was used as a solvent. The experiments involved PH buffers of different pH were added to potato juice, water, and the enzyme catecholase. The mixture was then subjected to spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 420nm taking the absorbance readings. In the second experiment, a phosphate buffer of PH 7.0 was used in different measures together with different measurement of potato juice and the enzyme catecholase then subjected to the spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 420nm. The data collected inform of table and analyzed using descriptive statistics such as line graph and later interpreted, showing that PH and enzyme concentration do affect the rate of enzyme reaction Introduction Living cells are involved in a series of chemical reactions rapidly due to the participation of ... Evaluation of Books on String Theory A String Method Book Evaluation Three different methods books; "Muller Rusch String Method," "Action with Strings," and " Essential Elements for strings," revealed three very different approaches to learning. The influence of time is greatly noticeable in comparing and contrasting these three approaches. "Essential Elements for Strings" was published in 1994 and the other two books in the 1960's. After many years of studying education the approach to teaching students how to play an instrument has greatly improved. The increased knowledge in educational psychology is evident through comparing "Essential Elements for Strings" to the other two. There is no complete fingering chart available, ensemble music included, or illustration of correct sitting posture. Technical problems are not introduced logically. Directions are given simply and clearly but the order is incorrect in teaching effectively. There is a great improvement in instruction compared to the first methods book introduced but also room for much needed changes such as logical steps. In "Essential Elements for Strings" by Allen, Gillespie, and Hayes, instructions are clear and logical. The parts of the instrument and bow are introduced and care of the instrument is defined clearly. The book introduces skills with directions and illustrations that help build up to effectively playing the instrument. Basic music vocabulary is introduced and the student is instructed to play pizzicato on the open strings. Learning to play pizzicato is much more effective than immediately playing with the bow as in the other two books. The note names are inscribed in the note heads to help the student associate the location of the notes on the staff as well as learn the names. The wonderful finger pattern is then introduced to teach E, F#, and G on the D string. The pattern is illustrated as well as described. The book then uses an effective method of holding the bow by practicing on a pencil with illustrations and clear instructions. Different exercises help to hold the bow ... Religious Experiences are in the Mind of the Believer Essays Religious Experiences are in the Mind of the Believer "A religious experience is a spontaneous or induced mental event over which the recipient has relatively little control. It is often accompanied with the gaining of certain knowledge and the experience is always unique."[1] Elton Trueblood's definition of a religious experience is very broad, including any experience of feelings of 'love, power, glory or strength from God.' This differs from a simple experience which can be defined as "an event or series of events participated in or lived through, especially one that makes a powerful impression on the mind and sense."[2] It is obvious that religious experiences ... The definitions of mystical experience used by researchers and clinicians vary considerably, ranging from Neumann's (1964) "upheaval of the total personality" to Greesley's (1974) "spiritual force that seems to lift you out of yourself" to Scharfstein's (1973) "everyday mysticism." William James created four characteristics which he believed will enable people to identify mystical experiences, a term that is used in a vast variety of contexts. These include ineffability, noetic

Noetic quality refers to knowledge that is gained through intuition and perception however not in the conventional manner, whilst transciency refers to the duration of the experience; it appears that most religious experiences last between a few minutes and two hours. Alternative dispute resolution can help the company manage risk and resolve disputes in short period of time, with minimum expenses, and less negative publicity. CEO 's Action Regarding Bates ' Dispute As CEO of Alumina Inc., the decision to consider defending the lawsuit filed by Kelly Bates and settling the case depends on a variety of factors. The CEO has to weigh the cost and time involved in litigation, likelihood of a favorable outcome, and the negative publicity associated with the suit. Kelly Bates alleges that the dumping of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) into Lake Dira by Alumina Inc. caused her daughter 's leukemia. The health of Kelly Bates ' daughter will touch the community 's heart leading to a public outcry against Alumina Inc. The publicity given to the case by the media may create a sympathetic jury pool and thus Alumina Inc. may not get a fair trial. Not only does smoking lead to an early grave, but it can also influence one's daily life. Many studies have revealed links between smoking and reduced endurance capacity2. Nicotine, the addictive agent found in cigarettes, can also be used to control weight gain. Both of these factors can have considerable effect on the sporting world. There have been many studies done, indicating that if you smoked, you did less physical activity. It has also been shown that the more you smoke, the less activity you do. Many sports and activities require the athlete to do notable amounts of work and expend a fair amount of energy. When an athlete smokes, they will not be able to get the required oxygen to the necessary parts of the body, and therefore will not perform as well. It has been proven that even if you have smoked, when you quit smoking your levels of physical activity will increase8. When taking a glimpse of all the top athletes in the world, it can be noted that none of them are frequent tobacco product users. Another aspect of smoking and the human body is the effect of nicotine on body weight. Nicotine, the drug found in cigarettes, is usually what tends to get smokers addicted to tobacco products. Through many different experiments, it has been shown that smokers tend to weigh less than non– smokers9. These tests were done not only by measurement of weight, but by multiple skinfold thickness assessments. In a study done on rats, it was determined that nicotine exposed rats had significantly less carcass fat, suggesting that nicotine effects fat stores. The more nicotine which was given, the less fat the rats had. It was hypothesized that nicotine effected these fat stores was by altering key enzymes in the regulation and uptake of triglycerides such as adipose–tissue lipoprotein lipase10. When dealing with humans, one study found that smokers had 2.8% lower total body fat than non– smokers11. During the process of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Did Crispus Attucks Change In The Boston Massacre African American–Centric America The first example of African Americans working against the institution of slavery and towards freedom and equality is Crispus Attucks' role in the Boston Massacre. In summary, Attucks shared common "anti–British" sentiment after parliament enforced tight restrictions on American trade in Boston, negatively affecting the business of seaman in the area. On the night of March 5th, 1770, a crowd armed with clubs and sticks forcefully surrounded a group of British troops. Crispus, frustrated with British Parliamentary oppression, hit a soldier causing the regiment to open fire. It is what happened following his death, though, that made Crispus Attucks a key member of the dismantlement of institutions such as slavery and the creation of the emancipation movement. Crispus Attucks was declared the first martyr of the American Revolution by Samuel Adams and his coffin was carried to the Faneuil Hall or the "Cradle of Liberty". At least 10,000 colonials mourned the loss, admiring the bravery shown by Attucks and the other killed protesters by accompanying the four hearses to Boston's Middle Burying Ground. This attack fueled the American efforts in the revolution, leading to succession from British rule. Although occurring in 1770, Bostonians commemorated those lost in the massacre well into the 1840s, being revived in 1858 during the protests against the Dred Scott v. Stanford decision. After waiting five days from the original time it was supposed to launch the decision was made to launch on January 28, 1986. This launch was a big deal not only due to the fact that Christa McAuliffe would become the first teacher to go into space but because a probe whose purpose was to examine Halley's Comet would beat a similar probe the Russians would launch days later (TAMU engineering ethics Pg. 3–4). Effects of Temperature, pH, Enzyme Concentration, and Substrate Concentration on Enzymatic Activity INTRODUCTION Enzymes, proteins that act as catalysts, are the most important type of protein[1]. Catalysts speed up chemical reactions and can go without being used up or changed [3] Without enzymes, the biochemical reactions that take place will react too slowly to keep up with the metabolic needs and the life functions of organisms. Catecholase is a reaction between oxygen and catechol [2]. In the presence of oxygen, the removal of two hydrogen atoms oxidizes the compound catechol, as a result of the formation of water [2]. MATERIALS AND METHODS To study the effects of temperature, pH, enzyme concentration, and substrate concentration there were certain steps that were followed in order to conduct this experiment. Each factor had a separate procedure to follow to find how each had a different effect on the enzyme. To find the effect of temperature on the activity of an enzyme, the experiment deals with the steps as follows. First, 3 mL if pH 7 phosphate buffer was used to fill three different test tubes that were labeled 10, 24, and 50. These three test tubes were set in three different temperature settings. The first test tube was placed in an ice–water bath for ten minutes until it reached a temperature of 2° C or less. The second tube's temperature setting was at room temperature until a temperature of 21°C was reached. The third tube was placed in a beaker of warm–water until the contents of the beaker reached a temperature setting of 60° C. There were four more test tubes that were included in the procedure. Two of the test tubes contained potato juice were one was put in ice and the other was placed in warm–water. The other two test tubes contained catechol. When used with reference to people, it often has the idea of enjoyment (Matt 24:38) and close comradeship." Both these commentators explain how even a literal meaning of a word kept in context would not mean physical eating but fellowship. Fifth, Donald C. The eating and drinking refer to the soul's proper appropriation of that benefit. Constable also so writes, "Jesus introduced a new metaphor for believing on Him, namely, eating His flesh. The following pericope is highly metaphorical." Other commentators focus on the fact that even if a person did "even eat my flesh and drink my blood, this would not avail for your salvation. These words contain a caution that the hearers should not understand his words in the strict literal sense, as if his body were really Bread, and as if his flesh and blood were really to be eaten and drank." The Magna Carta Nathanael Sterner Mr. Whitaker HIST 102 November 22, 2017 The Signing of the Magna Carta Those in our country that teach about the United States government will at one point bring up the signing of the Magna Carta as a pivotal point in the establishing the principle of the government is accountable to the laws of the common man. Before this point the king sat on high and dictated how people were to live there lives alongside the church while not being held accountable to the laws that he made. This lead to great resentment when a king was seen as tyrannical. So the Magna Carta or 'the Great Charter' was created to help curb the King John II of England when he wanted to continue the war with France, set boundaries on what the king could do without the consent of the 'council', and bind the ruler of the land to his subjects in such a way that he had to obey his own rules. In the time leading up to the signing of the 'Great Charter' King John had lost his holdings in France after several unsuccessful military endeavors. To help reclaim these holdings King John demanded that his barons provide him with more men and money to take the land back. However he did this without forewarning his barons about the increasing demand that he was placing on taxes and levies. The barons then thought that they were being wronged by the feudal system and that the king was not upholding his end of the deal. Which leads to three equations, which when we solve we gain the following parameters. pu^3+(1–p) d^3= (〖e^(r△t))〗^3 (〖e^(σ^2△t))〗^3 pu^2+(1–p) d^2=(〖e^(r△t))〗^2 e^(σ^2△t) u=〖0.5e〗 ^(r△t) υ(υ+1+√(υ^2+2υ–3)),d=〖0.5e〗^(r△t) υ(υ+1–√(υ^2+2υ–3)) p= (e^(r△t)–d)/(u– d),υ=e^(σ^2△t) Leisen and Reimer decided to try and establish and method which improves the binomial tree model. They developed a model by improving the rate which the binomial tree converges to. In real terms, they suggested to change probabilities of an up move in both stock and bond measures which leads to the up and down moves. • 66. Why Should Athletes Be Paid? Gracie was in the final round of her gymnastics competition. The judges were announcing the first place winner now. "...... in second place. And last but not least, in first place..... Gracie!!" Gracie jumped in the air as her ponytail began flopping on her head. She ran up to get her trophy. After all this, she looked around and noticed that second place, third place, fourth place, fifth place, all the way down to last place were all awarded trophies that all looked exactly the same. Every detail... the foot high structure with the stars at the top, the blue lettering spelling out "great job" in the middle, the coloring, were ALL the same. Suddenly, she did not feel as much of a winner. She wondered why the people who did not work hard, goofed around during practice, and fell more than once during their routine got the same reward as she did... the one who worked hard everyday. The one who took her preparation very seriously. The one who practiced for perfection each day. So, why should inattentive people be rewarded with the same thing as the dedicated people? Why should athletes work hard when they know that everyone will get a trophy anyway? Of course, there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means that kids are getting "wimpier". Also, they will get more upset and angry when they, for example, don't get a perfect score on a test or quiz in school. Some may say that getting these trophies can help kids self esteem. • 71. Model is considered to be one of the most significant concepts in modern financial theory. For valuing options the Black Sholes Model is viewed as a standard model. Assumptions To compute the value of a stock option the Black–Scholes Option Pricing Model is used. Both call and put option can be calculated with the help of the model. For the accurate application of the Black Scholes Pricing Model it is necessary to be familiar with its assumptions. Black and Scholes specified the following assumptions in their seminal paper (1973). (Ray, 2012) I. Constant volatility Volatility refers to the movement of the stock price whether upwards or downwards. The model assumes that the volatility does not change and is known to market participants. This implies that the variance of the return remains constant over the life of the option. II. No Dividends The model assumes that the underlying asset (stock) does not pay any dividends during the option's life. III. European exercise terms are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Weaknesses Of The Black Scholes Model 1. Introduction In 1973, Fischer Black, Myron Scholes and Robert Merton derived the Black–Scholes model of modelling derivatives prices for European stock options (Black & Scholes, 1973) and (Merton, 1973). This model has great importance on how traders determine the price and ways to hedge derivatives since the 1970's (Hull, 2012), and led to other derivative instruments that have similar characteristics to option. Fundamentally, the Black–Scholes model make sure of a simple formula to determine the price of an option contract using the underlying asset's price and its volatility, the strike price and the market risk–free interest rate (Merton, 1973). An option is a contract to buy or sell a specific financial product which the value is derived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nonetheless, Black–Scholes model remains popularly used for estimating the price of European style options. In fact, the Black–Scholes theory has been used as a standard in the financial world (Ray, 2012). The weakness of the Black–Scholes model will be evaluated in later sections together with solutions to tackle some of these limitations. 3. Strengths The Black–Scholes model is widely used due to the following strengths: 1. The formula is considerably easy to calculate. The call option price subjects to only five parameters which are deducible or measureable. It uses simple mathematical terms and option prices can be calculated within a short period of time. 2. It gives a very good approximation despite not perfectly correct due to the non–constant volatility. The model helps to give a first approximation in establishing hedges in the correct ratios to minimise risk. In addition, the non–constant variables, which are reflected as the Greeks, could be hedged to mitigate the risk associated with these parameters. 3. It provides a fundamental framework for future research to extend or refine it. Many literatures have be subsequently produced to evaluate the claims of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the businesses started growing, so did the economy. The power and wealth of business leaders dramatically increased which had a great influence and became vital to the growth of the American economy. One of the very famous business leaders during the Industrial Revolution was Cornelius Vanderbilt. Cornelius Vanderbilt was a captain of industry who helped to make America strong. Cornelius Vanderbilt was the the leader of steamboats and railroads who built important infrastructures in the 1800s that helped the American economy to thrive. According to Charles R. Geisst in his article Vanderbilt, Cornelius, before Vanderbilt entered the steamship industry, he already owned a shipping business, but due to its unprofitable future because of the competition with the newly introduced steamboats, he decided to sell all of his current ships and decided to enter the steamship industry business. ... Abstract This lab was performed in order to discover the activity of the enzyme catecholase in different pH levels as well as its absorbance in differently concentrated solutions. A spetrophotometer was used to measure the absorbance of the enzyme catecholase in different pH solutions as well as to measure the absorbance of catecholase in solutions with different concentrations of potato juice and phosphate buffers. Absorbance of the enzyme catecholase was at an optimum level when pH was close to neutral. When pH was acidic or basic, the catecholase was less effective. Also, when there was a higher concentration of potato juice and a lower concentration of phosphate buffer, absorbance of the enzyme increased. Introduction ... Broussard PA–C SG 11, CCC 30 October 2014 1 Abstract In the late evening of March 3rd 2002, through to the evening of March 4th 2002, Special Operation Forces were engaged in an intense fire fight with al Qaeda forces on a mountain top known as Takur Ghar. This battle was the product of a botched reconnaissance insertion and ultimately resulted in a 24 hour fire fight and the deaths of 7 U.S. service members and over 200 al Qaeda fighters. Navy SEAL, Neil C. Roberts is believed to be the first U.S. casualty of this battle and thus, the battle also became unofficially known as "Roberts Ridge" (1). This paper will give ... Roberts fell from the aircraft and was believed to still be alive as the aircraft was only 10 feet off of the ground at the time it came under fire. The helicopter was forced to crash land in the valley and now was 7 kilometers away from the mountain top. Roberts was now completely alone amongst an overwhelming enemy force and it is believed that he fought in place until he was eventually over run by the enemy (3). The downed SEALs were picked up by RAZOR 04 and at 0500, again attempted to reinsert at Roberts' last known position. Now they were only a team of 5 with the addition of Air Force CCT Chapman. The aircraft was able to insert the team but again came under heavy fire and was also rendered mission incapable and had to fly back to its origin due to the damage that it sustained. The team moved to the high ground of the mountain engaging and killing 2 combatants, they then realized that they were standing in the middle of multiple bunkers as they came under heavy cross fire from only 20 meters away.
