having seven–eighths Indian blood. N. Scott Momaday was born of having a mix of English, Irish, French, and Cherokee blood while, his father,

The social institution of marriage was historically established to facilitate procreation of children, but with advances in technology today and changes
in attitude towards surrogacy and adoption, same–sex couples are able to have children. If anything, same–sex marriages does not prevent a family

A person is not defined by their past and the mistakes that they have made. They are defined by what obstacles they have gone through and overcome

Everyone desires to live a good life and people are always searching for ways to do so. In my case, by moving to the United States, I now have the
opportunity to live a good life, but my definition differs from everyone else's. I believe that living a good life means getting a good education,
working hard, family support, willing to adapt new environment, having a leader, and becoming a self–made individual.
My family and I moved from Pakistan eleven years ago in search of a better life. Their main purpose in moving here in the U. S. was to send me to an

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Americans follow the proverb 'time is money.' Everyone works hard and people are motivated to achieve
their goals. Although, in every country the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. It is possible to change that by working hard.
One can live a good life if he or she works hard. A good example to support this is Benjamin Franklin. He was a great citizen of America and worked
hard in order to live up to his definition of a good life. His father was a candle maker and Franklin was not satisfied with it, then he decided to work
in the printing press. He made his trip to England, and while he was there, he found a job in the printing industry so he decided to stay there. He
stayed in England more than five years and developed very good relations with Englishmen. Franklin was also sent to France to negotiate a treaty of
commerce and stayed there nine years. He became a hero to the French. He was a scientist, inventor, philosopher, musician, and economist. He has
proven this ideal to be true, people do not inherit their social status; they attain it. Many of us are inspired by his great work and want to follow his
footsteps. I follow his philosophy of living a good life, by becoming a self–made man. He worked hard throughout his life in order to succeed. I really

The American Dream is different for everyone, though it is most commonly associated with success, freedom, and happiness. The concept of the
American Dream seems to have dwindled from where it was in the past few generations. It has gone from success, freedom, and happiness to having
lots of money and the nicest possessions. In today's society, we all hope and strive for this dream, but how many actually achieve the American Dream?

Today, as well as back in the 1800's when the story was written, most people's dreams are to achieve success. This formally became known as "The
American Dream". Although this may seem strange for everyone to have the same idea, it really isn't when you look at it with an open perspective.
Each and every person's perception of success is extremely different and individual, which makes everyone's dreams different. There may be people
who strive for big goals, and there may be others who take it one day at a time, achieving happiness on a less formal level. In comparing the time
period of the story to our society today, there are many similarities and differences to consider. According within the world we live today, people tend
to set much higher goals and expectations for themselves, whereas, in Ragged Dick, it was more of a day–to–day type situation. When people set
smaller, more realistic goals, it results in more happiness and comfort in their lifestyle. However, in today's world, Americans have become so
incredibly competitive and successful, that the standards have been significantly raised to the point where personal happiness is no longer good
enough. After reading a novel like Horatio Alger's Ragged Dick, you subconsciously make yourself realize the important underlying message that he

The energy of money makes the world thrive. For decades, people have relentlessly pursued wealth to fulfill their dreams of living a better, richer
life. The famous fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger once said, "The road to success is not easy to navigate, but with hard work, drive and passion, it's
possible to achieve the American Dream." The big question is, "In today 's society, with its elite layer of upper–class taxpayers and overpopulated
corporations, does the concept of the American Dream remain viable for all citizens of the United States?"
The past and present models of the American Dream have greatly influenced the nation 's ever growing population and economy. They possess some
significant differences, but share important similarities as well. In order to be truly successful in one 's pursuit of happiness and prosperity, it is
relevant to define and understand these attributes, both good and bad.
In the postwar era of 1945–1954, the version of the American Dream led people to believe they could make their aspirations come true if they went
after nothing more than to be successful.
In playwright Arthur Miller 's story, Death of a Salesman, written in 1949, the protagonist, Willy Loman, wants nothing more than to live the American
Dream. His insatiable hunger for wealth causes him to prioritize making money above all his other responsibilities. When Willy gets fired from his job

Marijuana Should Be Made Legal
I grew up with parents who smoked Marijuana on a regular basis. They tried to hide it from me but I knew what they were doing. My parents
exposed me to the drug, but I was also exposed to the drug just walking around my neighborhood, which was a ghetto trailer park in Clearfield
Utah. Marijuana and other drugs were cool in my neighborhood and everybody who was anybody was doing them except me. I for some reason
made the decision, I was not going to let drugs become a part of my life. I took DARE classes in school and I stayed very faithful to my church
which is the LDS church. I grew up with a personal opinion that drugs were dangerous and I was not going to submit my body to them. I still live by
this opinion, but after watching my dad die from complete Kidney failure, and Marijuana being one of the only things that gave him peace and helped

I can understand the oppositions reasons why it should never become legal even for medical purposes, but I feel that there are more medical
benefits for using the drug then there are negative reasons. I have read stories on how this drug has helped people and it makes me happy that they
have found relief from their pain and suffering. I know my religion is against it, but knowing that Marijuana is made from the earth, it's a natural
method of helping with medical issues, I find myself disagreeing with my church. I feel and will forever feel that Medical Marijuana should be
