Happy New Year and welcome to this month’s Global Video Insights Report!
We’re kicking things off by unveiling our Global Device Rankings for Q4 2012.
While Apple’s iPhone remains a winner, Samsung’s Galaxy S III was a major
mover this quarter, and RIM’s Blackberry handsets remain popular.
We’ve also included our annual Clippie Awards. Our vibrant community of mobile
video enthusiasts has voted on the best of the best from 2012. In a surprising
reversal, Whitney Houston outclassed PSY’s “Gangnam Style” in the U.S. with her
classic “I Will Always Love You.” Check out the rest of the winners in our report.
And as always, we’ve included monthly top mobile video searches and views in
India, Indonesia, UAE and the U.S.

Global Device Rankings: Q4 2012
At the top of the list, there were no notable changes, and the iPhone remained dominant. Apple’s
device was followed by a basket full of Blackberry handsets. Below the top 10, the previous
quarter saw Android’s continued growth thanks to Samsung, led by the Galaxy S III which leapt
eighteen spots in just three months. Feature phones continued to slide while Samsung’s low-end
Android handsets, the Galaxy Y and Galaxy Ace, moved up our list. Nokia had one bright spot - the
venerable Nokia E72 rose five spots against all odds. However, this was not a rally for Symbian as a
whole, as the newer Nokia 5233 fell ten spots, perhaps indicating that the basic hardware features
of the older E72 have a lasting appeal that the conventional touchscreen 5233 lacks.

roles. Credited for breaking stereotypes
in Bollywood, the National Award

the top searches as well as top videos

Spotlight on India Leading man Salman Khan
continues to give other
B-Town actors a run for
their money by consistently
delivering blockbuster
hits. The overwhelmingly
popular sequel, ‘Dabangg
2’, dominated the box office
yet again. With Vuclip, the
film was just as successful,

position this month.

benefits of olives and figs, describing their
many health benefits, and how they can
be used for medicinal purposes. The video
also shows that these claims have been
subsequently validated by modern science.

holiday season was anything but

tragedy and the fiscal cliff looming.
Viewers turned to mobile video for
escape. “Hollywood” and “funny
videos” were the top searches.
Celebrities continued to dominate
the rest of the searches, as well as

a melting pot of interests from
Indonesian music, to American
cartoons and movies, to the
Japanese comic hero Naruto. The
holidays were also clearly top of
mind with two of the top views
focused on spreading cheer.

popped up this month as number two on the list of top
searches for mobile video in Indonesia.
