Michal Brown Murder Analysis
According to this article the publisher jumps back in forth about what happened or what was done.
But after seeing news coverage on tv and reading into depth on this subject I believe the publisher is
incorrect on a few points.
First off the publisher states that michael brown was an unarmed black teenager who was shot and
killed at random by a white officer. Yes the color of the people may be correct the fact of him being
innocent is a little faulty. Brown attacked the officer and tried to take his weapon after Wilson the
officer encountered the attack and was hit he managed to fight him off and that's when the cop
unloaded pistol rounds into the teenager.
Another controversial topic brought up by the publisher. The publisher said that the teenager was not
doing anything wrong. Well according to the cop and a local convenience store, brown robbed the
store taking off with the goods minutes before the shooting. ... Show more content on

The publisher says it's a protest for black lives and how they matter but I believe it's about police
brutality, until they protesters made it more of a racial issue. All in all i truly think the whole case of
brown should be forgotten and not talked about so widely because it has brought more violence to
st.louis and the majority of the violence is from their own neighbors in the community not cops and

King Essays : King Saul
King Saul
I like to read stories that have good endings, but some of the finest lessons we can learn come from
stories with unhappy endings.
For a lot of years Gods people were ruled by Judges; however, they looked out there across the
borders and saw people being ruled by kings and they wanted a king, too. God did not favor them
having a king, but they thought they would fair better if they just had a king. So God permitted them
to have one.
God told Samuel to locate the right person to be Israel's first king. Well, he looked at a lot of people;
God guiding him all the time. And finally he selected Saul. Saul was just a boy, but he was a tall,
striking and modest young man.
Now, Saul didn't come to the throne as the results of a hard–fought political campaign. In fact, he
wasn't even running for the office. I don't suppose that he had ever thought of becoming a king. The
day Saul left home looking for his father's live–stock he had no idea that something was going to
happen that would change his whole life.
Saul youth had been spent working in the fields and tending his father's livestock. No doubt, during
those long, hot days, he must have thought: "If I make it until I am old enough to leave home, I'll
find an easier job." I well recall, as a boy growing up on a farm, thinking that if I ever get out of this
cotton field or the cucumber patch and away from those nasty cows, I'd never go back and I didn't.
But, I never expected to be a king and I don't imagine

King David
Introduction King David is known for his characteristics of being a man after God's own heart–
After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ('I have found David
son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.'Acts 13:22). It is
revelatory to understand how this text is more widely recognized in it's context than its predecessor.
The truth to Saul's kingship taken from him had a lot to do with God being dissatisfied with him. It
also had to do with his original intended purpose, which was to replace God. Saul struggled to do
this to the extent God needed. Samuel describes the king God needed in 1 Samuel 8:10–22. Saul
was only willing to half–heartedly commit the atrocities of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He became interested in a new group of people. In 1 Samuel 22:2 David is collecting men who were
indebted, in trouble or simply discontent. They came to David, and joined his military which was
not apart of Israel's. In fact this would have been an act of treason. David was building an army of
mercenaries that were directly defying Saul's rule. His campaign brought him a large enough force
to cause damage and become a formidable adversary. The king used this time to apply another tactic
that would preserve his life. It was his constant and influential way of publicly speaking about the
Lord's anointed. David on several occasion spoke in favor or, and in protection of preserving the life
of the Lord's anointed. (1 Samuel 24:6– 24:10– 26:9– 26:11– 26:16– 26:23– 2 Samuel 1:14– 1:16–

Hebraic Monarchy In Israel
The year of approximately 1051 B.C. of the United Kingdom Period of Israel was a significant year
in that it was marked by a shift in the Hebrew view of God and his position over their nation
(Hindson and Yates, 2010). For centuries prior to this date, the Hebrew people not only dwelled
under the theocratic institutes of Yahweh, but for a time, also viewed him as their supreme leader
and judge (Johnson, 2012). By around 1051 B.C., however, the Hebrew mindset had altered, and
desiring to imitate the surrounding nations, the Hebrews demanded that a monarchy be established
over them (Hindson and Yates, 2010). The ultimate result was the founding of the Hebraic monarchy
under the first three kings of Israel: Saul, David, and Solomon. Tragically, ... Show more content on

For a brief time, Solomon followed in the footsteps of his father, and exemplified righteousness,
wisdom, and spiritual fervor in every action he undertook. As a result of his actions, the Lord
blessed his endeavors and the kingdom of Israel thrived and prospered under his jurisdiction.
However, Solomon had one great weakness: a love of women. Due to this obsession with women,
Solomon took many wives, most of whom were pagan and had no love for Yahweh or his statues
(Maller, 2011). Sadly, his love for his many pagan wives gradually led Solomon astray, resulting in
his adoption of much of their pagan religious views (1 Kings 11:3–6). Although he is described as
still acknowledging the Lord, his heart was no longer as devoted to the will of God as it had
formerly been, and Jehovah–Jireh had become only one out of the host of other gods to be
worshiped (Hindson and Yates, 2010). The Lord, displeased and grieved by Solomon's infidelity,
warned Solomon that as a result of his ungodliness and unfaithfulness, his kingdom would be torn
from his descendants and given to another. That is, his land would be divided and bestowed upon
another individual not of the house of David and the once united nation of Israel, would now fall
prey to great disunity, incessant war, and bitter rivalries, all as a result of Solomon's failure to
maintain an upright spirit before his God (Maller,

The Fascinating Figure Of King David
Over the recent years of biblical scholarship, the fascinating figure of King David has been the
interesting subject of study that has attracted innumerable investigations. The popular notion of this
character's bravery and the brilliance of his historicity, have inspired scholars and artists of all ages
to take a closer look. The traditional and popular view, circulating mostly in faith–circles, recognizes
the Biblical David as a perfect individual, a pious, young shepherd boy who had a heart that was
after God's own heart (1 Samuel 13:14; 16 NIV) and through humility and perseverance of trusting
God, was honored to be the King of Israel with a lasting legacy. With that kind of impression of
David, there were many scholars who decided to look at him with a lens of speculation and scrutiny,
typically positioning themselves in the place of his enemies. Most scholarship have been trying to
enlighten the reader from the traditional view, who minimizes David's flaws and magnifies his
virtues. They have taken an opposite view to illuminate their perspective. Scholars have used the
Bible (specifically the books of Samuel, Kings, Chronicles and Psalms) as the only source of
information to discover further about the personality and character of David. There is no other
ancient inscriptions nor secure archeological discovery that gives much information for this study.
Therefore, to understand the historical David, scholars were primarily exegetical; they did a

Interpersonal Sins And Omissive Sins
God makes it clear that when the Israelites commit iniquity, he will punish them (2 Samuel 7:14).
Their sin warrants God's discipline, but as we see throughout the book of Samuel, God punishes
certain types of sins more harshly than others. Sins that are against another person, such as David
murdering Uriah, have milder consequences than sins that involve lacking to do something, such as
Saul's deficiency of prayer during his reign. I will argue that omissive sins are more offensive to the
Lord than interpersonal sins as determined by the severity of God's punishment. I will prove this
first by defining what comprises interpersonal sins and what constitutes omissive sins. I will then
assess how God punishes each type of sin respectively. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, before God tore the kingdom from Saul, Saul revealed a lack of repentance and
humility. Saul disobeyed God's command to obliterate the Amalekites, then tried to justify his
disobedience in saying that "the people spared the best of the sheep and the cattle, to sacrifice to the
Lord your God" (1 Samuel 15:3; 1 Samuel 15:15) Not only did Saul fail to repent, but he also failed
to honor the Lord in claiming that his sacrifice was for "your", or Samuel's, God. He didn't
acknowledge God as his own, making it appear that all of Israel's successes were by his own
strength. It is only after Samuel tells Saul that the Lord has rejected him that he admits that he was
in sin the entire time and saved the animals because he "feared the people and obeyed their voice" (1
Samuel 15:14).
Yet, even after Saul admitted his sin before Samuel, he still neglected his obligation to remain
humble. Saul said, "honor me now before the elders of my people, [...] so that I may worship the
Lord" (1 Samuel 15:30). This reveals that he worshiped God on a conditional basis and addresses
the Israelites as "my people", claiming ownership and kingship over God's chosen people. This
action reveals that Saul not only is putting his own agenda before the Lord, but he is also failing to
acknowledge the Lord's authority altogether. Even after being warned of the dangers of living
outside of God's will, Saul continues to be self–reliant and disobedient through his impatience in
waiting on

Book of David
By Shannon L Tyler
King David was known as the successor of Saul. This story can be located in the book of First
Samuel, written by Samuel during the period c.630–540BCE, with additions by prophets such as
Gad and Nathan. David is introduced as the youngest of eight sons who is known to be an anointed
king by Samuel to eventually replace Saul. When David later grew up, he was thought of as a good
leader. David was considered an outstanding leader however, he was not perfect. As a king, David
had positive and negative leadership characteristics. Throughout his reign as king of Israel, David
showed remorse for his negative decisions and for straying from God. David

Different Texts Speak Of A Friendship Between Two Or More...
Many different texts speak of a friendship between two or more heroes. Two such are the Bible and
the Gilgamesh Epic. In 1 and 2 Samuel we find the story of Johnathan and David and the Epic
presents the story of Gilgamesh and an Axe with the entual introduction of the character of Enkidu.
In both of these texts friendship is taken to the level of sexual love. Although I do not believe you
can interpret both in this manner. First, in Second Samuel David laments the death of Saul and
Johnathan. He laments, "Saul and Johnathan, beloved and lovely! In life and in death they were not
divided; they were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions" (2 Sam 1:23). David is deeply
distressed over the death of Johnathan especially; he says, "I am distressed for you, my brother
Johnathan; greatly beloved were you to me; your love to me was wonderful, passing the love of
women" (2 Sam 1:26). The phrase "passing the love of women" elicits a feeling that David loved
Johnathan more than a wife. This has some large sexual overtones. While this could definitely not be
meant literally I believe it should be at least interpreted metaphorically. In the Penn Tablet, we see
Gilgamesh relaying a dream he had of an axe he relays, "An axe was lying there, and they were
gathered over it" (Penn I 29–30).Gilgamesh then further says about the axe, "When I saw it, I
rejoiced. I loved it like a wife and caressed it" (Penn I 32–34). This gives off some very strange
thoughts to have

The Life Of Prince Albert
The energy in the hall was electrifying, lively music played throughout. The room glowed from end
to end in candlelight and on every table, a beautiful spread of an assortment of food and drinks.
It was King Albert's thirty–sixth birthday, and there was no shortage of faces celebrating not only
their king's birth but also, their victory over the Royal Household of the Gregorian: their neighbors
to the south.
The Battle of the Lands at this point had raged on for over two centuries.
Everywhere a young Prince David looked, he saw people smiling in merriment, enjoying every
aspect in which this triumphed had brought to the realm and his family's name. "Smile boy . . . the

The sun soon sets over the joyous night.
King Albert consumed his twenty drinks of the night. He burps, from drinking it so fast, and wipes
the remnants from his mouth. "Ah," he muttered: remembering where he left off in his tale, about
the final hours of battle. "The axes, swords, and arrows, sing and chop, through the air, making
immediate contact with their target. The combinations of beast, fire, water, wind, and strength, made
the battle scene a bloody feast for the eyes." He smiles, reenacting most of the fight scenes with his
hands to a captivated audience of one. "King Talon and his men surrounded the Gregorian's first
commander and three of the king's sons . . ." he paused abruptly, not wanting to reveal the goriest
parts that would make him appear more barbarian and less of a landowner fighting to reclaim what
was rightfully his.
The king sets down his empty goblet on the table behind him and places both hands on Prince
David's shoulders. He squeezes it, trying to maintain his balance on his wobbly legs. "The events of
this night have reminded me of the words my father said to me–the same words his father said to
him–and his father before him, and so on. It is about the burdens we as rulers must face when we
begin our reign," he slurs. His eyes are glassy and red from the stress of battle, partying, and his
many sleepless nights. "'Son, there will come a day when your reign will be

The Kings And Obedience : A Reflection Of God 's Provision...
The Kings and Obedience
The Old Testament is a reflection of God's provision for our lives. Time and time again He called the
people of the Old Testament to just follow him and be obedient to his plan. Samuel, Saul, David,
and Solomon are all called to commit themselves fully to the call and will of God. They are called to
set their plans and desires to the side and follow the plan that God had. However, in the same way
that contemporary Christians struggle with being obedient to God, the people of the Old Testament
did too.
In the time when Samuel was getting older the people of Israel said this to him in 1 Samuel 8:5 "You
are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other
nations have." In Samuel's time the people of Israel had seen what the impact of a judge had on their
nation, and they had been influenced by the positive affects on lands that had kings. Samuel went on
to pray to God and the Lord told him "it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as
king (8:7)." The people of Israel had turned their hearts from God, from his Lordship, and from his
promises. Israel had lost sight of what God had planned for them and began to desire a King so they
could put into action what they had planned for their nation. However, the plan was never for this to
be the people's nation or land, it as always been the Lord's land. God called the people of Israel to
obey him, and trust him, but they choose to turn away

Saul Vs. David : The Characters Of Saul And David
Saul and David have been the essential two lords of Israel. each of them had been perfect,
chivalrous warriors. Saul laid the standards of Israel's time of power through crushing the
Ammonites and after that breaking the Amalekite burden. David carried on to overcome the
Philistines, the Moabites, the Syrians the Edomites and others, and to advantage oversee of an
enormous realm. every Saul and David had been chosen by God and talented the quality of His
Soul. Neither of them ended up noticeably impeccable, however both committed genuine sins. yet,
with this in typical, one end up noticeably customary and esteemed by method for God, in spite of
the way that he committed infidelity and murder; the other, whose transgressions respected far
littler, was rejected.
As we follow and think about the histories of these folks, we will conceivably observe their
characters reflected in people round us, and additional critically in ourselves.
There are few characters inside the Book of scriptures more noteworthy disastrous than Saul. He

The Pillowman Play Analysis
The Pillowman is a dark comedy written in 2003 by British–Irish playwright Martin McDonagh.
First staged in 2007, The Pillowman returns to the stage, once again deftly helmed by Tracie Pang
and an incredible cast and creative team of the company, Pangdemonium!; set design by Eucien
Chia; lighting by James Tan, music and sound by Darren Ng. The Pangdemonium's production at the
Victoria Theatre runs for 3 hours.
Martin McDonagh's The Pillowman is a dark drama that takes place in a nameless totalitarian state.
The play opens in a police interrogation room as two detectives, Tupolski (Adrian Pang) and Ariel
(Shane Mardjuki), question a man named Katurian (Daniel Jenkins) about some violent child
murders.

Ensuring that one scene does not anticipate, and hence betray another, Tracie Pang's finely
calibrated direction captures and sustains the rollercoaster extremes of McDonagh's stories, evoking
smiles that split into gasps, and laughter that abruptly stops in its tracks. She understands that in a
good story, one should never be able to tell what will happen next. She must be something of an
expert at directing The Pillowman by now and sets the dark, ultraviolent tone right from the start. It
helped that Eucien Chia's multi–layered set was so phenomenal, and furthered the feelings of fear,
anxiety and uneasy atmosphere. The set allowed for some rapid changes, and I was impressed at the
split second transitions between scenes, and the detail that went into it. A single slide of a door
would result in the transformation from a police station to a storybook world and really immersed
the audience into the world with how elaborate it was. When the stories were being staged,
Pangdemonium! employed the use of MOJO Studios' animation to bring them to life, adding a new

Comparing David And Michal
R. Alter asks, "The whole story of David and Michal concludes on a poised ambiguity through the
suppression of casual explanation: Is this a punishment from God, or simply a refusal by David to
share her bed, or is the latter to be understood as the agency for the former?"
Filling gaps of this ambiguity, many commentaries and scholars, compared to small numbers of
scholars who view the second option of Alter, conclude Michal was physically barren as a result of
God's judgment as follows.
"Michal's unproductive womb would have been interpreted as a curse sent against a disobedient
wife"
"It may be that she had despised not simply her husband but also Yahweh."
"It seems likely that this is to be interpreted as a punishment sent by Yahweh on account of her
attitude to the Ark"
"The closing phrase of the unit implies her childlessness is her punishment (against the Ark)"
"Her childlessness means rather that the Lord himself takes up the gauntlet that she has thrown
down... Michal has rejected not David, but Yahweh."
Was Michal, the daughter of Saul whom God had abandoned (1 Sam 15:28) childless as a result of
speaking against the ark representing God, or his anointed King? Did the text really imply that God
judged Michal? Does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

New Cultural Knowledge And Understandings
Interviewing Michal gave me a small introduction to new cultural knowledge and understandings.
The interview introduced me to a very small portion of the students I may have in my classroom and
see in the school. One important piece of information that I learned through interviewing Michal is,
he occasionally brought up stereotypes and racism that he constantly heard and received from his
elementary school till now. In James & Cherry A. Banks text Multicultural Education Issues and
Perspectives, Banks discusses that school reformation should be antiracist and antibias and having
an antiracist and antibias perspective is at the core of multicultural education, "many people find
that multicultural education automatically takes care of racism, but that is far from reality" (James &
Cherry A. Banks, p.316). Michal discussed many stereotypical statements not only said from
students, but teachers as well. For example, a common stereotypical question that kids did and still
do tease him about, are the typical African–American meals that they eat. When he was little many
students, especially Caucasian students, would tease him about eating "KFC, watermelon, and
Kool–Aid". Although they found this as a joke, he mentioned that at a young age it made him feel
uncomfortable. Many students, especially here in College joke around about these types of
stereotypical thoughts, but these are the little things that may marginalize a student in the classroom.

King Saul : The Book Of 1 Samuel
King Saul
In the book of 1 Samuel, we learn about the life of King Saul, who even though he started off very
well, he didn't finish very well. There is a cliche that sums up the life of King Saul, which says, "It's
not how you start, it's how you finish." However, Saul's disobedient actions, unfortunately, derailed
what possibly could have been a God honoring rule over Israel. In order to understand Saul, we need
to take a look into his life and how he lived before he became king.
Saul was the son of Kish from the tribe of Benjamin, and he had come from a family that was very
well off. Scripture tells us that there was no one among the tribe that was as handsome as Saul
(1Sam 9:2b). As being the chosen one of God, he was to lead the scattered nations of Israel that did
not have a central leader other than God. Years before Saul's rule, there was a prophet named
Samuel that was Israel's religious leader, however, Samuel was not a king. The Philistines were
enemies to Israel and because of the threat of war, the Israelites had pressed Samuel to appoint a
king.
With the task at hand, Samuel knew he had to anoint a king from among the people, and Saul was
already anointed secretly but was not publicly anointed to be king. His reign started peacefully
around 1010 BC, however, the peace of king Saul's reign did not last. Saul's downfall began in 1
Sam 13:9–12 which reads, "So Saul said (this is after waiting seven days for Samuel to return to
Gilgal) 'bring a burnt offering and

Abigail's 'Samuel 25'
In 1 Samuel 25, Saul encounters a man named Nabal and his wife, Abigail. Prior to the encounter, it
is mentioned that David treated Nabal's shepherds with kindness and dignity. Therefore, David
demands that Nabal payback the good deed by showing kindness and hospitality towards David and
his servants. However, Nabal disrespectfully responds with, "Who is this David?" Determined to
protect his honor, David arms his men with the intent on killing Nabal. However, unknown to her
husband, Abigail gathers food offerings around her house and rushes to meet David out of shame.
Abigail ultimately prevents David from killing her husband through a speech directed at David. 1
Samuel 25 is within the apology of David, therefore the question arises, "How does the apologist
use Abigail to get his point across?" In this paper, I will argue that the apologist uses Abigail's
speech to establish a hierarchy with David on top, thus alluding to David's rightful rise to the throne.
In 1 Samuel 25, after the shameful incident with her husband, Abigail hastily gathers a bounty ...

It can be argued that Abigail's speech actually hurt the apologist's case. In response to Abigail's
speech, David says, "May you be blessed...for keeping me from bloodshed this day and from
avenging myself with my own hands (1 Samuel 25: 33)." Although Abigail successfully averted her
husband's death at the hands of David, her speech also portrayed David in a belittling light. Anger
and revenge are sins in the eyes of the Lord, and sins that David would have committed if it were
not for Abigail. Abigail's speech shows us that alone, David did not have the moral mindset or
character that was right and just in the eyes of God. Instead, it shows us that David is vengeful,
impulsive, and often forgets that the Lord is watching over him. Overall, this image of David is not
one of a king, and therefore cannot be a defense to his rightful and just rise to the

Michal's favorite subject in school is math, because it comes natural for him. He, also loves topics

was always natural at it. He see's math as important because it is the core of his major. Although
writing and reading will be used as well, in all his classes most of the work he does involves using
math and math topics. He enjoys math, solving problems, and numbers. The subject that Michal is
least interested in is Social Studies. He mentions that all the classes he took in middle school for
social studies were not very active. He described something similar to the Banking concept in which
he was fed information to memorize and was not really interactive like he was in his other classes.
According to Michal these experiences is what caused him to dislike history and social study

Analysis Of King David And King Saul
In the Deuteronomistic tradition, when the people initially asked for a king, God held ambivalence.
Despite the Lord's warnings, the Israelites still wanted a king in order to be like the other nations
around them. As a result of this response, the Lord's anger was kindled, as his people had lost faith
in his protection as well as they threatened the covenant by showing a yearning not to be a special
people distinct from the other nations and ruled by God alone. Nevertheless, God granted the wish
of the Israelites through king Saul; however, this gift from the Lord was soured by Saul's impiety
and disregard for the nation of Israel. Only through the next monarch, King David, would the wish
of security of the nation be fulfilled. These fact can be seen through the ascension stories of king
Saul and king David. While King Saul initially had the support of the Lord and the leaders of Israel,
he did not correctly fulfil the position as monarch. On the other hand, David proved to be the
legitimate king of Israel as he served the Lord and the People of Israel willingly and as he
maintained the laws of the covenant.
While Saul had all the markings of a king, he proved, through his ancestry and his disinterest, to be
unworthy of such an undertaking. For example, in 1 Samuel 9:2, Saul was described in such a way
that, "not a man among the people of Israel (was) more handsome than he; he stood head and
shoulders above everybody." In addition, in 1 Samuel 9, Saul searched for his

How Does David Kill Frank
1 Samuel 26:7–13
Introduction:
David spares Saul a second time.
Observations:
In this passage Saul is king, but because of an unlawful sacrifice to the LORD in a battle with the
Philistines, the LORD prepares the way for a man after His own heart. (1 Samuel 13:13–14) This
man is David, the youngest of his family, and a keeper of the sheep. (1 Samuel 16:11) David is also
anointed by Saul in 1 Samuel 16:13 and serves in Saul's service in 1 Samuel 16:21.
Saul relentless purses to kill David from chapters 19–23, and in chapters 24–26 David has two
opportunities to kill Saul, but doesn't kill him. Because David knows that Saul is the LORD's

Guiltless: This word can also mean blameless or have the idea that responsibility is no longer

has mercy on Saul. (26:8) Live: David acknowledges that it is the LORD who gives life and he is to

Similarities Between King David And Goliath
How many have heard of David and Goliath, an exciting story most people have probably heard, or
maybe of his murder of Uriah the Hittite, but David's life was more by the grace of God. Acts 13:22
says, "God testified concerning him: I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he
will do everything I want him to do" (NIV). David was a man after God's own heart because of his
faith; unlike the previous king Saul. David's life was filled with a rocky rise to kingship, many
accomplishments, and blatant failures such as, adultery and murder, and great promises, but we are
able to learn from David the things that God desires in a man after his own heart.
David came to power through the unfaithfulness of Saul. Saul rejected the Word of the Lord that had
come to him, and just as he rejected God over him, God rejected him as king over the Israelites.
David first received his calling when Samuel, the man of God showed up at the local village and
invited the family of Jesse to sacrifice with him. While sacrificing all David's brothers went before
Samuel to see which one of them would be king, yet God rejected them, even though they had the
look of a king. After God had rejected the sons of Jesse that had passed before him Samuel asked

But The one main difference that made all the difference between Saul and David was "Saul looked
like a king, but proved to be a poor one because his heart did not follow the Lord faithfully" (Arnold
& Buyer, 2008, p. 210) yet David was the exact opposite; He didn't look the part, but his heart was
fully devoted to being faithful to God. A few Similarities between them were that they both had
military success, David more so since he expanded the kingdom and helped subdue the tribes around
Israel, and God gave the kingship to both. These are the similarities and differences that seem to

Exodus And Job Bring Different Experiences For The Readers...
The book of Exodus and Job bring different experiences for the reader to interpret. Exodus discusses
the Jewish exile out of the land of Egypt and into the promise land, but violence reigns heavy in this
book toward the Pharaoh. Where as in the book of Job, Job is harassed by God, and Satan, to test his
will and faithfulness to the almighty. Although these two books may be discussing different points in
time they are also similar in their discussion of violence. The land of Egypt is struck with plague
after plaque by the hand of God, and in Job God allows Satan to torment Jog, take all of his
possessions, and even kill his family. Exodus authors write in a pre–exilic setting where Jewish
people are still being ruled, where as Job is written in a more post–exilic setting and both of these
settings create different responses. Violence is a major component of both of these books, and how
they are written and perceived. As stated above Exodus was written during the pre–exilic times for
the people of Israel. This type of environment could account for some of the ways in which the story
of Exodus is told. God wants to help the Jewish people escape the clutches of Egypt, "Then the Lord
said, 'I have observed the misery of my people who are in Egypt; I have heard their cry on account
of their taskmasters. Indeed, I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them from the
Egyptians." (Exodus, 3:7–8). God is foreshadowing what he will do, in terms of violence, to free

The Friendship Of David And Jonathan
Saul's son Jonathan found great favor in David. Jonathan grew to love David, and helped protect
him from Saul's wrath. The friendship of David and Jonathan was the effect of divine grace, which
produces in true believers one heart and one soul, and causes them to love each other (Henry, 2000).
It is possible to love other people even if a parent has hatred in their hearts towards them. When
Jonathan could not stop Saul's march toward evil, he could warn the intended victim, thus averting a
tragedy (Fackler, 2006). Christians in today's world can learn a valuable lesson of loving others even
if there are issues that are impending on the situation that could cause anger to occur. Jonathan was
loyal to David causing a positive reflection on his covenant and commitment to his friendship with
David. "And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of
Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul" (KJV, 1 Samuel
18:1). Jonathan vowed to help David and stood by his word. Those who love Christ as their own
souls will be willing to join themselves to him in an everlasting covenant (Henry, 2001). I was
unaware that David and Jonathan had such a special bond; and made me think about my own life
and my commitment to my friends. There can be strength found in God's word if you put him first as
David did in his own battles.

Jewish Culture Research Paper
For this assignment, I decided to focus on the country of Israel. Although I am Jewish, I do not
know that much about the culture of Israel and those who live or have lived there. Luckily, some of
my family has come over to the US from Israel, so it was easy for me to think of someone to
interview. Michal Atkins is my first cousin once removed by marriage and currently lives in Los
Angeles, California.
Michal came to the US first to study Occupational Therapy. Her immediate family is in Israel and
not in the US, but her uncle, aunt and all her first cousins are in the US. Some were born here after
their parents fled from Germany in the 1930s because of the Nazis. She came here to live

similarities between living here and in Israel and that too made it easier, such as a melting pot of
nationalities, the same hot climate, and people being open and mostly friendly. Her professional life
as occupational therapist also helped because she studied here and received my professional
certification here and was able to begin working right away. She became involved with professional

The First Three Kings Of Israel
The nation of Israel was set apart as holy to the LORD. But they When the children of Israel
demanded a king, they did so to be like the other nations. The first three kings were Saul, (outwardly
tall, handsome and strong–a seemingly good choice for a king, but inwardly arrogant, proud and
unrepentant–not God's choice), David (a man after God's own heart who repented of his sins and as
such was God's choice), and Solomon (the wisest man who ever lived, but because of covenant
disobedience became the catalyst for the division and ultimate exile of Israel. Because the judges
were corrupt, and because everyone else had a king, Israel asked for one too. They were rushing
God's timing, by asking for a king "like all the other nations have" (1 Samuel 8:5 NLT). They
wanted someone they could see to fight their battles for them. They, in a sense, rejected God as their
king. This attitude indicates that the people were looking at the other nations and at those rulers'
outward characteristics. So, when the people demanded a king for the second time, God gave them
what they demanded.
Saul was tall, good looking and a warrior, however, as Hindson and Yates put it, "The people
seemed to focus on Saul's outward appearance (9:2) rather than his heart (16:7)" (Hindson and Yates
2012, 164). Despite his early successes as king, Saul's arrogance and pride caused him to start
disobeying God. Samuel warned Saul repeatedly about his covenant disobedience. So when he

David And Goliath In The Kite Runner
Likewise, David and Goliath also display characters of underdogs and oppressors that can be related
characters from The Kite Runner. David was often looked down upon, just like Hassan and Sohrab.
Saul speaks to David and says, "You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for
you are just a boy, and he has been a warrior from his youth" (1 Samuel 17:33). No one had faith in
David and he was forbidden to fight against Goliath. People judged David from his appearance and
had little belief in him to do anything about the situation with Goliath. Goliath, himself, also looks
down upon David when he is approached by him. This is seen in verse 42 when it says, "When the
Philistine looked and saw David, he disdained him, for he

Who Was King David
Before the time of Samuel, Judges ruled over the nation of Israel. Eventually, the people of Israel
found disfavor with the Lord because of their sinful, disobedient hearts. The Israelites had their
hearts set on anointing a king, therefore rejecting God as their king. After several warnings from
Samuel, the Israelites still insisted on having a king since they felt that Samuel was too old and that
his sons were immoral, additionally the Israelites wanted to be like other nations. In 1 Samuel 8:19,
they told Samuel, "We want a king over us. Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to
lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles." What the Israelites wanted was an earthly
king, not a heavenly king, which greatly displeased ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
David was from the line of Judah, and one of the key components to the Messianic promise. David
was truly a man after God's own heart, and unlike Saul, lived a life serving God with obedience and
humility and gave all glory to God for his victories. As king, David was a clear representation of
God's love for the people of Israel, as well as his covenant. King David, was a triumphant King,
which was further proof of God's sovereignty; he conquered Jerusalem (2 Samuel 5), united the 12
tribes of Israel (2 Samuel 2:4), brought the Ark of Covenant to Israel (2 Samuel 5:7), and even
brought lasting peace by defeating Moab, Syria, and Ammon (2 Samuel 8:2). In addition to his
many great triumphs King David showed the desire to please God above all else, and when he did
sin he genuinely asked God for forgiveness and repented, "Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightiest be justified
when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest." (Psalm 51:2–4) When God chose David as
King, the Bible tells us that the Lord said "Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his
stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the
outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart." (1 Sam 16:7) However, because King David
was obviously not perfect and was a human bound to sin he eventually gave into committing
adultery with Bathsheba, resulting in the birth of Solomon who would later become the next king of

Contest of David & Goliath: The Philistine army had gathered for war against Israel. David
volunteered to fight Goliath. As Goliath moved in for the kill, David reached into his bag and slung

forehead and he fell face down on the ground. David did the right thing in spite of discouraging
insults and fearful threats. Only God's opinion mattered to David.

Moses: Moses was born in a time when his people, the Israelites, an enslaved minority, were

of repenting and begging his father to be one of his hired servants, expecting his relationship with
his father is likely severed. Eventually, they still celebrate the return of the younger son because he

The Importance Of Interpersonal Sins In The Book Of Samuel
In the book of Samuel, God makes it clear that when the Israelites commit iniquity, he will punish
them. Their sin warrants God's discipline, but throughout the book God punishes certain sins more
harshly than others. Sins that are against another person, such as David murdering Uriah, have
milder consequences than sins that involve the failure to do something, such as Saul's failure to pray
during his reign. I will argue that omissive sins are more offensive to the Lord than interpersonal
sins because they challenge God's sovereignty. I will prove this first by defining what comprises
each kind of sin. I will then prove that the severity of punishment for David's interpersonal sins is
milder than the punishment for Saul and Eli's omissive sins.
Throughout the text, David's actions exemplify interpersonal sins since they violate another person's
body, property, or reputation. While interpersonal sins still offend God, the offense is fundamentally
against another human being. During David's reign, he "[strikes] down Uriah the Hittite with the
sword, and [takes Uriah's] wife to be [his] wife, and [kills Uriah] with the sword of the Ammonites"
(2 Samuel 12:9). All of the direct objects in the preceding sentence reveal that people are the ones
suffering from David's actions. While murder violates God's law, it doesn't undermine God's
authority because David isn't disregarding the Lord's power. When David, "struck down Uriah the
Hittite with the sword," the offense involved a

What Makes King David A Good Man
With Failing Humanity and Great Humility
In 2 Samuel 11–12, King David provokes the retributive actions of God. He commits adultery,
impregnates a woman that is not his wife, and then has her husband killed. Yet, through all of
David's bad decisions, God still has trust in him and forgives David of his sins. Therefore, I will
argue that 2 Samuel 11–12 supports the kingship of King David by showing that although David is
only human and can make bad decisions, God still trusts him to be the King of Israel.
Following the death of Uriah, the Lord was very displeased, sending Nathan to condemn David for
his actions. The Lord says through Nathan " I will raise up trouble against you from within your
own house" (12:11). However although David committed adultery, going against the Lord's
commandments, he quickly came to realize through Nathan's admonition that he had disobeyed God
and sinned. In return David is repentant and even tells Nathan " I have sinned against the Lord"
(12:13). This shows a humility that should be present in a King, and a willingness to admit his
wrongs that provides a good example to the Israelites. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Indeed, as soon as David admits that he sinned, Nathan tells him that God will put away his sin and
spare his life. However, the life of his child will be taken as an act of retribution. A proper leader
does not have to be perfect. Yet, they do have to admit that they were wrong and accept their
punishment without complaint. Therefore, this chapter shows that David should hold the kingship as
a positive example of the frailty of human nature, and the ability of God's forgiveness in the face of
grievous

The Philistine armed force was at war with the Israelite. The two armed forces camped for the battle

The word is used to describe the person who is extremely optimistic and always finds something to

The Boundaries Of Compassion By Bernhard Schlink
'Monsters exist, but they are too few in number to be truly dangerous. More dangerous are the
common men, the functionaries ready to believe and to act without asking questions.'
– Primo Levi
Compassion– emotion one feels in response to suffering of others that motivates a desire to help,
based on cerebral notions such as fairness, justice and interdependence. The Reader by Bernhard
Schlink tests the boundaries of compassion by tackling the question of German guilt. The story
follows Michal Berg and his life–long struggle between condemning and understanding a Nazi
guard he passionately fell in love with as a young boy. Through Michael and Hanna's lives, Schlink
unravels the other side of the Holocaust– experience of the perpetrators and their loved ones. As we
devaur shades deeper into their characters, we come to see them both as victims of their
circumstance, two people caught on opposite sides of regime clash, where misunderstanding runs as
deep as their guilt and shame. Through abundance of symbolism and brisk writing style, Schlink
takes us all the way back to beginnings, questioning the meaning of individual agency, impact of
law on morality, and transitional accountability. Through love and loss, conscious and unconscious
pain, compassion and condemnation, The Reader humanizes the perpetrators of the Holocaust and
contests us to understand. Understanding the crimes of the past, rather than condemning them, we
achieve liberation from chains of the dead and restore

The relationship between David and Saul, portrayed from 1 Samuel 16 through 2 Samuel 12, is a
dynamic relationship. In the beginning, David submitted himself to Saul, serving him, protecting
him from evil spirits. David grew to love Saul deeply, and in turn, the two had a reciprocated
respect. However, as David grew in popularity after defeating Goliath, Saul became jealous of
David. That jealousy transformed into the fear of David, and that began Saul's pursuit for David's
death. In the end, Saul committed suicide, with feelings of resent over David. But David never lost
his respect for Saul, the man he believed to be "Lord's anointed". The turning point of their
relationship occurred in 1 Samuel 18, after David had defeated Goliath. After

Benjamite's Persuasive Speeches
David was a brave man. His heroics were becoming songs (1 Samuel 18:7) and those songs greatly
angered King Saul to the point of wanting David killed. David, not wanting to die, fled from King
Saul wrath. The future king dwelt in the wilderness as Saul relentlessly pursued him. Having one
enemy desiring to kill someone is enough, but David had other enemies. Enemies that can be more
dangerous than the one trying to end your life. One such dangerous enemy was Cush the Benjamite.
The danger of Cush's opposition could have brought even more enemies against the embattled
David. While Cush was not directly trying to kill David as Saul was, this Benjamite was spreading
lies that only fueled the anger of the King and could have ignited more rage against ... Show more

Jesus was a prime example to believers today in that He fulfilled the Father's will to the point of
death. Our amazing Father, creator of the universe, illustrated by His own life the need to be under
authority. The point is illustrated well when Jesus said, "That the world may know that I love the
Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, even so I do" (John 14:31). Christians can be
comforted knowing that there is an example to follow. Paul said, "Be imitators of me, as I am of
Christ" (1 Corinthians 11:1; cf Luke 6:40; 1 Pet. 2:21).
Understanding that God has made requirements allows believers to understand that God requires
those statutes to be kept and that by His expectations mankind will be judged. Peter understood this
in Acts 5:29 when he stated, "We must obey God rather than men." God is not the author of
confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33) therefore He would not provide random, nonsensical rules to
follow, but a pattern laid out that leads believers to a home in Heaven. In Philippians 3:17 Paul
states, "Brethren join in following my example and observe those who walk according to the pattern

Introducing The Monarchy By 1 Samuel
Introducing the Monarchy
Introduction
1 Samuel presents Israel transformation from theocracy to monarchy as theological and
sociopolitical. Knut Heim mentions, "Such transformation could not take place without stresses and
conflicts. The book of Samuel in general, and chaps. 8–15 in particular, reflect the tensions and
ambiguities of these transitional time." The Israel's request of a king is seen desperate and insistence
to become like other nations, due to internal and external crises. Of course, it was an evil thing to
ask for because they were the God's chosen people and God was their divine king. They are
supposed to be different than other nations. Nevertheless, God graciously gives them a king, Saul,
who eventually fails but God's eternal plan of kingship unfolds as he choses a king for himself in
David.
Although 1 Samuel narrates the transition from theocracy, the judge, Samuel to a monarchial nation
of Israel, the narrator reminds that Yahweh was already their mighty king and who had also proven
himself trustworthy and also quite capable of calling out charismatic judges to lead the people in
times of emergency after all he is the God. The Israel nation was God's chosen people and under
God's care and divine kingship. In Samuel 7 we see obedience of Israel to God's appointed judge,
Samuel, that favored God's deliverance of Israel from the hands of Philistines. There is no doubt
Israel had not seen and experienced ultimate power of deliverance.

Michal Brown Murder Analysis

  • 1. Michal Brown Murder Analysis According to this article the publisher jumps back in forth about what happened or what was done. But after seeing news coverage on tv and reading into depth on this subject I believe the publisher is incorrect on a few points. First off the publisher states that michael brown was an unarmed black teenager who was shot and killed at random by a white officer. Yes the color of the people may be correct the fact of him being innocent is a little faulty. Brown attacked the officer and tried to take his weapon after Wilson the officer encountered the attack and was hit he managed to fight him off and that's when the cop unloaded pistol rounds into the teenager. Another controversial topic brought up by the publisher. The publisher said that the teenager was not doing anything wrong. Well according to the cop and a local convenience store, brown robbed the store taking off with the goods minutes before the shooting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The publisher says it's a protest for black lives and how they matter but I believe it's about police brutality, until they protesters made it more of a racial issue. All in all i truly think the whole case of brown should be forgotten and not talked about so widely because it has brought more violence to st.louis and the majority of the violence is from their own neighbors in the community not cops and that's a ... • 3. King Essays : King Saul King Saul I like to read stories that have good endings, but some of the finest lessons we can learn come from stories with unhappy endings. For a lot of years Gods people were ruled by Judges; however, they looked out there across the borders and saw people being ruled by kings and they wanted a king, too. God did not favor them having a king, but they thought they would fair better if they just had a king. So God permitted them to have one. God told Samuel to locate the right person to be Israel's first king. Well, he looked at a lot of people; God guiding him all the time. And finally he selected Saul. Saul was just a boy, but he was a tall, striking and modest young man. Now, Saul didn't come to the throne as the results of a hard–fought political campaign. In fact, he wasn't even running for the office. I don't suppose that he had ever thought of becoming a king. The day Saul left home looking for his father's live–stock he had no idea that something was going to happen that would change his whole life. Saul youth had been spent working in the fields and tending his father's livestock. No doubt, during those long, hot days, he must have thought: "If I make it until I am old enough to leave home, I'll find an easier job." I well recall, as a boy growing up on a farm, thinking that if I ever get out of this cotton field or the cucumber patch and away from those nasty cows, I'd never go back and I didn't. But, I never expected to be a king and I don't imagine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. King David Introduction King David is known for his characteristics of being a man after God's own heart– After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ('I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.'Acts 13:22). It is revelatory to understand how this text is more widely recognized in it's context than its predecessor. The truth to Saul's kingship taken from him had a lot to do with God being dissatisfied with him. It also had to do with his original intended purpose, which was to replace God. Saul struggled to do this to the extent God needed. Samuel describes the king God needed in 1 Samuel 8:10–22. Saul was only willing to half–heartedly commit the atrocities of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He became interested in a new group of people. In 1 Samuel 22:2 David is collecting men who were indebted, in trouble or simply discontent. They came to David, and joined his military which was not apart of Israel's. In fact this would have been an act of treason. David was building an army of mercenaries that were directly defying Saul's rule. His campaign brought him a large enough force to cause damage and become a formidable adversary. The king used this time to apply another tactic that would preserve his life. It was his constant and influential way of publicly speaking about the Lord's anointed. David on several occasion spoke in favor or, and in protection of preserving the life of the Lord's anointed. (1 Samuel 24:6– 24:10– 26:9– 26:11– 26:16– 26:23– 2 Samuel 1:14– 1:16– 22:51) David is the speaker in every instance. He publically and historically had it chronicled that the Lord's anointed was ... • 7. Hebraic Monarchy In Israel The year of approximately 1051 B.C. of the United Kingdom Period of Israel was a significant year in that it was marked by a shift in the Hebrew view of God and his position over their nation (Hindson and Yates, 2010). For centuries prior to this date, the Hebrew people not only dwelled under the theocratic institutes of Yahweh, but for a time, also viewed him as their supreme leader and judge (Johnson, 2012). By around 1051 B.C., however, the Hebrew mindset had altered, and desiring to imitate the surrounding nations, the Hebrews demanded that a monarchy be established over them (Hindson and Yates, 2010). The ultimate result was the founding of the Hebraic monarchy under the first three kings of Israel: Saul, David, and Solomon. Tragically, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For a brief time, Solomon followed in the footsteps of his father, and exemplified righteousness, wisdom, and spiritual fervor in every action he undertook. As a result of his actions, the Lord blessed his endeavors and the kingdom of Israel thrived and prospered under his jurisdiction. However, Solomon had one great weakness: a love of women. Due to this obsession with women, Solomon took many wives, most of whom were pagan and had no love for Yahweh or his statues (Maller, 2011). Sadly, his love for his many pagan wives gradually led Solomon astray, resulting in his adoption of much of their pagan religious views (1 Kings 11:3–6). Although he is described as still acknowledging the Lord, his heart was no longer as devoted to the will of God as it had formerly been, and Jehovah–Jireh had become only one out of the host of other gods to be worshiped (Hindson and Yates, 2010). The Lord, displeased and grieved by Solomon's infidelity, warned Solomon that as a result of his ungodliness and unfaithfulness, his kingdom would be torn from his descendants and given to another. That is, his land would be divided and bestowed upon another individual not of the house of David and the once united nation of Israel, would now fall prey to great disunity, incessant war, and bitter rivalries, all as a result of Solomon's failure to maintain an upright spirit before his God (Maller, ... • 9. The Fascinating Figure Of King David Over the recent years of biblical scholarship, the fascinating figure of King David has been the interesting subject of study that has attracted innumerable investigations. The popular notion of this character's bravery and the brilliance of his historicity, have inspired scholars and artists of all ages to take a closer look. The traditional and popular view, circulating mostly in faith–circles, recognizes the Biblical David as a perfect individual, a pious, young shepherd boy who had a heart that was after God's own heart (1 Samuel 13:14; 16 NIV) and through humility and perseverance of trusting God, was honored to be the King of Israel with a lasting legacy. With that kind of impression of David, there were many scholars who decided to look at him with a lens of speculation and scrutiny, typically positioning themselves in the place of his enemies. Most scholarship have been trying to enlighten the reader from the traditional view, who minimizes David's flaws and magnifies his virtues. They have taken an opposite view to illuminate their perspective. Scholars have used the Bible (specifically the books of Samuel, Kings, Chronicles and Psalms) as the only source of information to discover further about the personality and character of David. There is no other ancient inscriptions nor secure archeological discovery that gives much information for this study. Therefore, to understand the historical David, scholars were primarily exegetical; they did a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Interpersonal Sins And Omissive Sins God makes it clear that when the Israelites commit iniquity, he will punish them (2 Samuel 7:14). Their sin warrants God's discipline, but as we see throughout the book of Samuel, God punishes certain types of sins more harshly than others. Sins that are against another person, such as David murdering Uriah, have milder consequences than sins that involve lacking to do something, such as Saul's deficiency of prayer during his reign. I will argue that omissive sins are more offensive to the Lord than interpersonal sins as determined by the severity of God's punishment. I will prove this first by defining what comprises interpersonal sins and what constitutes omissive sins. I will then assess how God punishes each type of sin respectively. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, before God tore the kingdom from Saul, Saul revealed a lack of repentance and humility. Saul disobeyed God's command to obliterate the Amalekites, then tried to justify his disobedience in saying that "the people spared the best of the sheep and the cattle, to sacrifice to the Lord your God" (1 Samuel 15:3; 1 Samuel 15:15) Not only did Saul fail to repent, but he also failed to honor the Lord in claiming that his sacrifice was for "your", or Samuel's, God. He didn't acknowledge God as his own, making it appear that all of Israel's successes were by his own strength. It is only after Samuel tells Saul that the Lord has rejected him that he admits that he was in sin the entire time and saved the animals because he "feared the people and obeyed their voice" (1 Samuel 15:14). Yet, even after Saul admitted his sin before Samuel, he still neglected his obligation to remain humble. Saul said, "honor me now before the elders of my people, [...] so that I may worship the Lord" (1 Samuel 15:30). This reveals that he worshiped God on a conditional basis and addresses the Israelites as "my people", claiming ownership and kingship over God's chosen people. This action reveals that Saul not only is putting his own agenda before the Lord, but he is also failing to acknowledge the Lord's authority altogether. Even after being warned of the dangers of living outside of God's will, Saul continues to be self–reliant and disobedient through his impatience in waiting on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This story can be located in the book of First Samuel, written by Samuel during the period c.630–540BCE, with additions by prophets such as Gad and Nathan. David is introduced as the youngest of eight sons who is known to be an anointed king by Samuel to eventually replace Saul. When David later grew up, he was thought of as a good leader. David was considered an outstanding leader however, he was not perfect. As a king, David had positive and negative leadership characteristics. • 17. Different Texts Speak Of A Friendship Between Two Or More... Many different texts speak of a friendship between two or more heroes. Two such are the Bible and the Gilgamesh Epic. In 1 and 2 Samuel we find the story of Johnathan and David and the Epic presents the story of Gilgamesh and an Axe with the entual introduction of the character of Enkidu. In both of these texts friendship is taken to the level of sexual love. Although I do not believe you can interpret both in this manner. First, in Second Samuel David laments the death of Saul and Johnathan. He laments, "Saul and Johnathan, beloved and lovely! In life and in death they were not divided; they were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions" (2 Sam 1:23). David is deeply distressed over the death of Johnathan especially; he says, "I am distressed for you, my brother Johnathan; greatly beloved were you to me; your love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women" (2 Sam 1:26). The phrase "passing the love of women" elicits a feeling that David loved Johnathan more than a wife. This has some large sexual overtones. While this could definitely not be meant literally I believe it should be at least interpreted metaphorically. In the Penn Tablet, we see Gilgamesh relaying a dream he had of an axe he relays, "An axe was lying there, and they were gathered over it" (Penn I 29–30).Gilgamesh then further says about the axe, "When I saw it, I rejoiced. I loved it like a wife and caressed it" (Penn I 32–34). This gives off some very strange thoughts to have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. The Life Of Prince Albert The energy in the hall was electrifying, lively music played throughout. The room glowed from end to end in candlelight and on every table, a beautiful spread of an assortment of food and drinks. It was King Albert's thirty–sixth birthday, and there was no shortage of faces celebrating not only their king's birth but also, their victory over the Royal Household of the Gregorian: their neighbors to the south. The Battle of the Lands at this point had raged on for over two centuries. Everywhere a young Prince David looked, he saw people smiling in merriment, enjoying every aspect in which this triumphed had brought to the realm and his family's name. "Smile boy . . . the blood of my blood," the hoarse voice of his father, brought his dark ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sun soon sets over the joyous night. King Albert consumed his twenty drinks of the night. He burps, from drinking it so fast, and wipes the remnants from his mouth. "Ah," he muttered: remembering where he left off in his tale, about the final hours of battle. "The axes, swords, and arrows, sing and chop, through the air, making immediate contact with their target. The combinations of beast, fire, water, wind, and strength, made the battle scene a bloody feast for the eyes." He smiles, reenacting most of the fight scenes with his hands to a captivated audience of one. "King Talon and his men surrounded the Gregorian's first commander and three of the king's sons . . ." he paused abruptly, not wanting to reveal the goriest parts that would make him appear more barbarian and less of a landowner fighting to reclaim what was rightfully his. The king sets down his empty goblet on the table behind him and places both hands on Prince David's shoulders. He squeezes it, trying to maintain his balance on his wobbly legs. "The events of this night have reminded me of the words my father said to me–the same words his father said to him–and his father before him, and so on. It is about the burdens we as rulers must face when we begin our reign," he slurs. His eyes are glassy and red from the stress of battle, partying, and his many sleepless nights. • 21. The Kings And Obedience : A Reflection Of God 's Provision... The Kings and Obedience The Old Testament is a reflection of God's provision for our lives. Time and time again He called the people of the Old Testament to just follow him and be obedient to his plan. Samuel, Saul, David, and Solomon are all called to commit themselves fully to the call and will of God. They are called to set their plans and desires to the side and follow the plan that God had. However, in the same way that contemporary Christians struggle with being obedient to God, the people of the Old Testament did too. In the time when Samuel was getting older the people of Israel said this to him in 1 Samuel 8:5 "You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have." In Samuel's time the people of Israel had seen what the impact of a judge had on their nation, and they had been influenced by the positive affects on lands that had kings. Samuel went on to pray to God and the Lord told him "it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as king (8:7)." The people of Israel had turned their hearts from God, from his Lordship, and from his promises. Israel had lost sight of what God had planned for them and began to desire a King so they could put into action what they had planned for their nation. However, the plan was never for this to be the people's nation or land, it as always been the Lord's land. God called the people of Israel to obey him, and trust him, but they choose to turn away ... Saul laid the standards of Israel's time of power through crushing the Ammonites and after that breaking the Amalekite burden. David carried on to overcome the Philistines, the Moabites, the Syrians the Edomites and others, and to advantage oversee of an enormous realm. every Saul and David had been chosen by God and talented the quality of His Soul. • 25. The Pillowman Play Analysis The Pillowman is a dark comedy written in 2003 by British–Irish playwright Martin McDonagh. First staged in 2007, The Pillowman returns to the stage, once again deftly helmed by Tracie Pang and an incredible cast and creative team of the company, Pangdemonium!; set design by Eucien Chia; lighting by James Tan, music and sound by Darren Ng. The Pangdemonium's production at the Victoria Theatre runs for 3 hours. Martin McDonagh's The Pillowman is a dark drama that takes place in a nameless totalitarian state. The play opens in a police interrogation room as two detectives, Tupolski (Adrian Pang) and Ariel (Shane Mardjuki), question a man named Katurian (Daniel Jenkins) about some violent child murders. Ensuring that one scene does not anticipate, and hence betray another, Tracie Pang's finely calibrated direction captures and sustains the rollercoaster extremes of McDonagh's stories, evoking smiles that split into gasps, and laughter that abruptly stops in its tracks. She understands that in a good story, one should never be able to tell what will happen next. She must be something of an expert at directing The Pillowman by now and sets the dark, ultraviolent tone right from the start. It helped that Eucien Chia's multi–layered set was so phenomenal, and furthered the feelings of fear, anxiety and uneasy atmosphere. The set allowed for some rapid changes, and I was impressed at the split second transitions between scenes, and the detail that went into it. A single slide of a door would result in the transformation from a police station to a storybook world and really immersed the audience into the world with how elaborate it was. When the stories were being staged, Pangdemonium! employed the use of MOJO Studios' animation to bring them to life, adding a new dimension to the storytelling process and an added layer of ... • 27. Comparing David And Michal R. Alter asks, "The whole story of David and Michal concludes on a poised ambiguity through the suppression of casual explanation: Is this a punishment from God, or simply a refusal by David to share her bed, or is the latter to be understood as the agency for the former?" Filling gaps of this ambiguity, many commentaries and scholars, compared to small numbers of scholars who view the second option of Alter, conclude Michal was physically barren as a result of God's judgment as follows. "Michal's unproductive womb would have been interpreted as a curse sent against a disobedient wife" "It may be that she had despised not simply her husband but also Yahweh." "It seems likely that this is to be interpreted as a punishment sent by Yahweh on account of her attitude to the Ark" "The closing phrase of the unit implies her childlessness is her punishment (against the Ark)" "Her childlessness means rather that the Lord himself takes up the gauntlet that she has thrown down... Michal has rejected not David, but Yahweh." Was Michal, the daughter of Saul whom God had abandoned (1 Sam 15:28) childless as a result of speaking against the ark representing God, or his anointed King? • 29. New Cultural Knowledge And Understandings Interviewing Michal gave me a small introduction to new cultural knowledge and understandings. The interview introduced me to a very small portion of the students I may have in my classroom and see in the school. One important piece of information that I learned through interviewing Michal is, he occasionally brought up stereotypes and racism that he constantly heard and received from his elementary school till now. In James & Cherry A. Banks text Multicultural Education Issues and Perspectives, Banks discusses that school reformation should be antiracist and antibias and having an antiracist and antibias perspective is at the core of multicultural education, "many people find that multicultural education automatically takes care of racism, but that is far from reality" (James & Cherry A. Banks, p.316). Michal discussed many stereotypical statements not only said from students, but teachers as well. For example, a common stereotypical question that kids did and still do tease him about, are the typical African–American meals that they eat. When he was little many students, especially Caucasian students, would tease him about eating "KFC, watermelon, and Kool–Aid". Although they found this as a joke, he mentioned that at a young age it made him feel uncomfortable. Many students, especially here in College joke around about these types of stereotypical thoughts, but these are the little things that may marginalize a student in the classroom. • 31. King Saul : The Book Of 1 Samuel King Saul In the book of 1 Samuel, we learn about the life of King Saul, who even though he started off very well, he didn't finish very well. There is a cliche that sums up the life of King Saul, which says, "It's not how you start, it's how you finish." However, Saul's disobedient actions, unfortunately, derailed what possibly could have been a God honoring rule over Israel. In order to understand Saul, we need to take a look into his life and how he lived before he became king. Saul was the son of Kish from the tribe of Benjamin, and he had come from a family that was very well off. Scripture tells us that there was no one among the tribe that was as handsome as Saul (1Sam 9:2b). As being the chosen one of God, he was to lead the scattered nations of Israel that did not have a central leader other than God. Years before Saul's rule, there was a prophet named Samuel that was Israel's religious leader, however, Samuel was not a king. The Philistines were enemies to Israel and because of the threat of war, the Israelites had pressed Samuel to appoint a king. With the task at hand, Samuel knew he had to anoint a king from among the people, and Saul was already anointed secretly but was not publicly anointed to be king. His reign started peacefully around 1010 BC, however, the peace of king Saul's reign did not last. Saul's downfall began in 1 Sam 13:9–12 which reads, "So Saul said (this is after waiting seven days for Samuel to return to Gilgal) 'bring a burnt offering and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Abigail's 'Samuel 25' In 1 Samuel 25, Saul encounters a man named Nabal and his wife, Abigail. Prior to the encounter, it is mentioned that David treated Nabal's shepherds with kindness and dignity. Therefore, David demands that Nabal payback the good deed by showing kindness and hospitality towards David and his servants. However, Nabal disrespectfully responds with, "Who is this David?" Determined to protect his honor, David arms his men with the intent on killing Nabal. However, unknown to her husband, Abigail gathers food offerings around her house and rushes to meet David out of shame. Abigail ultimately prevents David from killing her husband through a speech directed at David. 1 Samuel 25 is within the apology of David, therefore the question arises, "How does the apologist use Abigail to get his point across?" In this paper, I will argue that the apologist uses Abigail's speech to establish a hierarchy with David on top, thus alluding to David's rightful rise to the throne. In 1 Samuel 25, after the shameful incident with her husband, Abigail hastily gathers a bounty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It can be argued that Abigail's speech actually hurt the apologist's case. Although Abigail successfully averted her husband's death at the hands of David, her speech also portrayed David in a belittling light. Anger and revenge are sins in the eyes of the Lord, and sins that David would have committed if it were not for Abigail. Abigail's speech shows us that alone, David did not have the moral mindset or character that was right and just in the eyes of God. Instead, it shows us that David is vengeful, impulsive, and often forgets that the Lord is watching over him. He see's math as important because it is the core of his major. Although writing and reading will be used as well, in all his classes most of the work he does involves using math and math topics. He enjoys math, solving problems, and numbers. The subject that Michal is least interested in is Social Studies. He mentions that all the classes he took in middle school for social studies were not very active. He described something similar to the Banking concept in which he was fed information to memorize and was not really interactive like he was in his other classes. • 37. Analysis Of King David And King Saul In the Deuteronomistic tradition, when the people initially asked for a king, God held ambivalence. Despite the Lord's warnings, the Israelites still wanted a king in order to be like the other nations around them. As a result of this response, the Lord's anger was kindled, as his people had lost faith in his protection as well as they threatened the covenant by showing a yearning not to be a special people distinct from the other nations and ruled by God alone. Nevertheless, God granted the wish of the Israelites through king Saul; however, this gift from the Lord was soured by Saul's impiety and disregard for the nation of Israel. Only through the next monarch, King David, would the wish of security of the nation be fulfilled. These fact can be seen through the ascension stories of king Saul and king David. While King Saul initially had the support of the Lord and the leaders of Israel, he did not correctly fulfil the position as monarch. On the other hand, David proved to be the legitimate king of Israel as he served the Lord and the People of Israel willingly and as he maintained the laws of the covenant. While Saul had all the markings of a king, he proved, through his ancestry and his disinterest, to be unworthy of such an undertaking. For example, in 1 Samuel 9:2, Saul was described in such a way that, "not a man among the people of Israel (was) more handsome than he; he stood head and shoulders above everybody." • 41. Similarities Between King David And Goliath How many have heard of David and Goliath, an exciting story most people have probably heard, or maybe of his murder of Uriah the Hittite, but David's life was more by the grace of God. Acts 13:22 says, "God testified concerning him: I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do" (NIV). David was a man after God's own heart because of his faith; unlike the previous king Saul. David's life was filled with a rocky rise to kingship, many accomplishments, and blatant failures such as, adultery and murder, and great promises, but we are able to learn from David the things that God desires in a man after his own heart. David came to power through the unfaithfulness of Saul. Saul rejected the Word of the Lord that had come to him, and just as he rejected God over him, God rejected him as king over the Israelites. David first received his calling when Samuel, the man of God showed up at the local village and invited the family of Jesse to sacrifice with him. While sacrificing all David's brothers went before Samuel to see which one of them would be king, yet God rejected them, even though they had the look of a king. • 43. Exodus And Job Bring Different Experiences For The Readers... The book of Exodus and Job bring different experiences for the reader to interpret. Exodus discusses the Jewish exile out of the land of Egypt and into the promise land, but violence reigns heavy in this book toward the Pharaoh. Where as in the book of Job, Job is harassed by God, and Satan, to test his will and faithfulness to the almighty. Although these two books may be discussing different points in time they are also similar in their discussion of violence. The land of Egypt is struck with plague after plaque by the hand of God, and in Job God allows Satan to torment Jog, take all of his possessions, and even kill his family. Exodus authors write in a pre–exilic setting where Jewish people are still being ruled, where as Job is written in a more post–exilic setting and both of these settings create different responses. Violence is a major component of both of these books, and how they are written and perceived. As stated above Exodus was written during the pre–exilic times for the people of Israel. This type of environment could account for some of the ways in which the story of Exodus is told. God wants to help the Jewish people escape the clutches of Egypt, "Then the Lord said, 'I have observed the misery of my people who are in Egypt; I have heard their cry on account of their taskmasters. Indeed, I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them from the Egyptians." (Exodus, 3:7–8). God is foreshadowing what he will do, in terms of violence, to free ... • 45. The Friendship Of David And Jonathan Saul's son Jonathan found great favor in David. Jonathan grew to love David, and helped protect him from Saul's wrath. The friendship of David and Jonathan was the effect of divine grace, which produces in true believers one heart and one soul, and causes them to love each other (Henry, 2000). It is possible to love other people even if a parent has hatred in their hearts towards them. When Jonathan could not stop Saul's march toward evil, he could warn the intended victim, thus averting a tragedy (Fackler, 2006). Christians in today's world can learn a valuable lesson of loving others even if there are issues that are impending on the situation that could cause anger to occur. Jonathan was loyal to David causing a positive reflection on his covenant and commitment to his friendship with David. "And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul" (KJV, 1 Samuel 18:1). Jonathan vowed to help David and stood by his word. Those who love Christ as their own souls will be willing to join themselves to him in an everlasting covenant (Henry, 2001). I was unaware that David and Jonathan had such a special bond; and made me think about my own life and my commitment to my friends. • 49. The First Three Kings Of Israel The nation of Israel was set apart as holy to the LORD. But they When the children of Israel demanded a king, they did so to be like the other nations. The first three kings were Saul, (outwardly tall, handsome and strong–a seemingly good choice for a king, but inwardly arrogant, proud and unrepentant–not God's choice), David (a man after God's own heart who repented of his sins and as such was God's choice), and Solomon (the wisest man who ever lived, but because of covenant disobedience became the catalyst for the division and ultimate exile of Israel. Because the judges were corrupt, and because everyone else had a king, Israel asked for one too. They were rushing God's timing, by asking for a king "like all the other nations have" (1 Samuel 8:5 NLT). They wanted someone they could see to fight their battles for them. They, in a sense, rejected God as their king. This attitude indicates that the people were looking at the other nations and at those rulers' outward characteristics. So, when the people demanded a king for the second time, God gave them what they demanded. Saul was tall, good looking and a warrior, however, as Hindson and Yates put it, "The people seemed to focus on Saul's outward appearance (9:2) rather than his heart (16:7)" (Hindson and Yates 2012, 164). After several warnings from Samuel, the Israelites still insisted on having a king since they felt that Samuel was too old and that his sons were immoral, additionally the Israelites wanted to be like other nations. David was from the line of Judah, and one of the key components to the Messianic promise. David was truly a man after God's own heart, and unlike Saul, lived a life serving God with obedience and humility and gave all glory to God for his victories. As king, David was a clear representation of God's love for the people of Israel, as well as his covenant. King David, was a triumphant King, which was further proof of God's sovereignty; he conquered Jerusalem (2 Samuel 5), united the 12 tribes of Israel (2 Samuel 2:4), brought the Ark of Covenant to Israel (2 Samuel 5:7), and even brought lasting peace by defeating Moab, Syria, and Ammon (2 Samuel 8:2). In addition to his many great triumphs King David showed the desire to please God above all else, and when he did sin he genuinely asked God for forgiveness and repented, "Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. • 57. The Importance Of Interpersonal Sins In The Book Of Samuel In the book of Samuel, God makes it clear that when the Israelites commit iniquity, he will punish them. Their sin warrants God's discipline, but throughout the book God punishes certain sins more harshly than others. Sins that are against another person, such as David murdering Uriah, have milder consequences than sins that involve the failure to do something, such as Saul's failure to pray during his reign. I will argue that omissive sins are more offensive to the Lord than interpersonal sins because they challenge God's sovereignty. I will prove this first by defining what comprises each kind of sin. I will then prove that the severity of punishment for David's interpersonal sins is milder than the punishment for Saul and Eli's omissive sins. Throughout the text, David's actions exemplify interpersonal sins since they violate another person's body, property, or reputation. While interpersonal sins still offend God, the offense is fundamentally against another human being. During David's reign, he "[strikes] down Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and [takes Uriah's] wife to be [his] wife, and [kills Uriah] with the sword of the Ammonites" (2 Samuel 12:9). All of the direct objects in the preceding sentence reveal that people are the ones suffering from David's actions. While murder violates God's law, it doesn't undermine God's authority because David isn't disregarding the Lord's power. • 59. What Makes King David A Good Man With Failing Humanity and Great Humility In 2 Samuel 11–12, King David provokes the retributive actions of God. He commits adultery, impregnates a woman that is not his wife, and then has her husband killed. Yet, through all of David's bad decisions, God still has trust in him and forgives David of his sins. Therefore, I will argue that 2 Samuel 11–12 supports the kingship of King David by showing that although David is only human and can make bad decisions, God still trusts him to be the King of Israel. Following the death of Uriah, the Lord was very displeased, sending Nathan to condemn David for his actions. The Lord says through Nathan " I will raise up trouble against you from within your own house" (12:11). However although David committed adultery, going against the Lord's commandments, he quickly came to realize through Nathan's admonition that he had disobeyed God and sinned. • 63. The Boundaries Of Compassion By Bernhard Schlink 'Monsters exist, but they are too few in number to be truly dangerous. More dangerous are the common men, the functionaries ready to believe and to act without asking questions.' – Primo Levi Compassion– emotion one feels in response to suffering of others that motivates a desire to help, based on cerebral notions such as fairness, justice and interdependence. The Reader by Bernhard Schlink tests the boundaries of compassion by tackling the question of German guilt. The story follows Michal Berg and his life–long struggle between condemning and understanding a Nazi guard he passionately fell in love with as a young boy. Through Michael and Hanna's lives, Schlink unravels the other side of the Holocaust– experience of the perpetrators and their loved ones. As we devaur shades deeper into their characters, we come to see them both as victims of their circumstance, two people caught on opposite sides of regime clash, where misunderstanding runs as deep as their guilt and shame. Through abundance of symbolism and brisk writing style, Schlink takes us all the way back to beginnings, questioning the meaning of individual agency, impact of law on morality, and transitional accountability. Through love and loss, conscious and unconscious pain, compassion and condemnation, The Reader humanizes the perpetrators of the Holocaust and contests us to understand. Understanding the crimes of the past, rather than condemning them, we achieve liberation from chains of the dead and restore ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While David was a king of God so to say, Saul was a king of man. Both had different desires in what they wanted. David was after God's own heart while Saul was after the praise of his people. Saul was cruel and unforgiving and therefore was separated from God. 1 Samuel 20: 30–32 is a good example of Saul's harsh behavior. "Saul's anger flared up at Jonathan and he said to him, You son of a perverse and rebellious woman! Don't I know that you have sided with the son of Jesse to your own shame and to the shame of the mother who bore you?" (1 Samuel 20: 30) David was the opposite. He was kind and forgiving and was at peace with the Lord. In 1 Samuel 26, David again spares Saul's life, showing his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. Saul And David The relationship between David and Saul, portrayed from 1 Samuel 16 through 2 Samuel 12, is a dynamic relationship. In the beginning, David submitted himself to Saul, serving him, protecting him from evil spirits. David grew to love Saul deeply, and in turn, the two had a reciprocated respect. However, as David grew in popularity after defeating Goliath, Saul became jealous of David. That jealousy transformed into the fear of David, and that began Saul's pursuit for David's death. In the end, Saul committed suicide, with feelings of resent over David. But David never lost his respect for Saul, the man he believed to be "Lord's anointed". The turning point of their relationship occurred in 1 Samuel 18, after David had defeated Goliath. After ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. Benjamite's Persuasive Speeches David was a brave man. His heroics were becoming songs (1 Samuel 18:7) and those songs greatly angered King Saul to the point of wanting David killed. David, not wanting to die, fled from King Saul wrath. The future king dwelt in the wilderness as Saul relentlessly pursued him. Having one enemy desiring to kill someone is enough, but David had other enemies. Enemies that can be more dangerous than the one trying to end your life. One such dangerous enemy was Cush the Benjamite. The danger of Cush's opposition could have brought even more enemies against the embattled David. While Cush was not directly trying to kill David as Saul was, this Benjamite was spreading lies that only fueled the anger of the King and could have ignited more rage against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jesus was a prime example to believers today in that He fulfilled the Father's will to the point of death. Our amazing Father, creator of the universe, illustrated by His own life the need to be under authority. The point is illustrated well when Jesus said, "That the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, even so I do" (John 14:31). Christians can be comforted knowing that there is an example to follow. Paul said, "Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ" (1 Corinthians 11:1; cf Luke 6:40; 1 Pet. 2:21). Understanding that God has made requirements allows believers to understand that God requires those statutes to be kept and that by His expectations mankind will be judged. Peter understood this in Acts 5:29 when he stated, "We must obey God rather than men." God is not the author of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33) therefore He would not provide random, nonsensical rules to follow, but a pattern laid out that leads believers to a home in Heaven. In Philippians 3:17 Paul states, "Brethren join in following my example and observe those who walk according to the pattern you have in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. What Is The Purpose Of The Video Of Samuel Himself I absolutely loved watching the video of Samuel Himself! Samuel's smile is just as infectious in this video as it was in the Including Samuel Video Preview. In the first video, Samuel was so cute when he told his brother to take a bow after they sang together. For the most part, we did not hear Samuel's thoughts and feelings in the first video. In this video, Samuel himself is communicating with the audience and helping us to understand who he is. Samuel is no different from his typically developing peers. He communicates his struggles with school. Like many kids, he works hard in school and at times, it can be difficult for him. Samuel states that his favorite teacher is his social studies teacher and he and his classmates are learning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Introducing The Monarchy By 1 Samuel Introducing the Monarchy Introduction 1 Samuel presents Israel transformation from theocracy to monarchy as theological and sociopolitical. Knut Heim mentions, "Such transformation could not take place without stresses and conflicts. The book of Samuel in general, and chaps. 8–15 in particular, reflect the tensions and ambiguities of these transitional time." The Israel's request of a king is seen desperate and insistence to become like other nations, due to internal and external crises. Of course, it was an evil thing to ask for because they were the God's chosen people and God was their divine king. They are supposed to be different than other nations. Nevertheless, God graciously gives them a king, Saul, who eventually fails but God's eternal plan of kingship unfolds as he choses a king for himself in David. Although 1 Samuel narrates the transition from theocracy, the judge, Samuel to a monarchial nation of Israel, the narrator reminds that Yahweh was already their mighty king and who had also proven himself trustworthy and also quite capable of calling out charismatic judges to lead the people in times of emergency after all he is the God. The Israel nation was God's chosen people and under God's care and divine kingship. In Samuel 7 we see obedience of Israel to God's appointed judge, Samuel, that favored God's deliverance of Israel from the hands of Philistines. There is no doubt Israel had not seen and experienced ultimate power of deliverance. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
