Persuasive Essay On Food
When we eat food, we consume it with thought of it providing nutritional support. Suddenly it has
become easier to obtain by just driving though a drive thru and ordering meal instead of it being
home–cooking with no thought of where it came from. People believe that the food they eat is
giving them nutritional value but in truth it is only doing more harm than good. While some may
argue that it is ultimately the responsibility of the consumer because no one is forced to eat, but the
main problem it to stop eating a western diet that America has been accustomed to diet or not.
Because of the amount of processed food causing chronic diseases, inflation of the pricing of the
health care industry, and the constant fact that food is readily available without properly knowing
what they're eating, it is not publics fault for obesity it's the food industry fault.
The amount of food we eat has become a dangerously high problem and eventually has caused
severe medical conditions. Michael Pollan, who's named one of Times magazine's top 100 Most
Influential People in 2010 and teaches at the University of California at Berkeley and the writer
of the essay called "Escape from the Western Diet. He states, "People eating a western diet are
prone to a complex of chronic disease that seldom strike people eating more traditional diets" (421).
Pollen's point is that people who eat fatty and junky foods are more likely to catch a chronic disease
such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity,

Definition Essay On Food
Love has different meanings, it can be different for people. My definition of love is someone who
gives you food. Thats true love because it's hard to give up food or give food to someone unless they
really need it. You really love someone or something if you share your own food with them. I know
my mom loves me because when we go to restraraunts she orders something really fancy and my
order is like some chicken finger;I always ask for some of her food and she lets me try it. That
shows that she loves me. My definition of love might be different from the rest, but you have to
admit it, sharing food means you love

Food And Drink Essay
How to Eat and Drink Healthily when Travelling Maintaining a healthy diet while travelling is not
the world's easiest thing to do. Not only is your access to food restricted by what is available
around you, but also the temptations to snack and eat junk food are enhanced when you hit the road.
The good news is that eating and drinking healthily isn't impossible – you just need to keep these tips
and tricks in mind the next time you hit the road. Packing healthier options with you The most
obvious way to avoid indulging in bad snacks and drinks is by packing healthier options with you.
If you have healthy food with you, you naturally won't feel the need to spend money and end up
making bad choices. So, instead of being forced to buy a chocolate...show more content...
You don't have to just rely on packed goods in order to stay healthy– it is possible to buy healthy
foods and drinks at your destination and on the road. When shopping at the airport or station
(gas, bus or train), try to consider the above food choices as your go to items. Purchase turkey or
chicken sandwiches, look for nut and fruit mixes with no added chocolate or sugar and skip the
sugary beverages for water. Yogurt can be a great option, especially when soothing an upset
stomach and opt for salads whenever possible. Just remember to have the dressing on the side to
avoid those sneaky calories. Furthermore, check your options beforehand! If you know the route
and especially the stations you'll be stopping by, check out what supermarkets or brands are
available. You can even find discounts from VoucherBin to eat at restaurants across the UK to
ensure you eat healthy and save money. For example, if you are staying at a Premier Inn, browse
their website to see the menu and plan your meals ahead of time. The same works with stations, as
you can generally see the stores available at the station and plan your shopping accordingly. Make

Diet and Nutrition Essay
A person eats to gain energy from food that allows our body to perform various functions that
allows us to survive. The food that people take in will go through their digestive system that then
allows them to harness the energy within food. That energy that is taken from the food is then
sent, via the bloodstream, to all of the living cells. These cells then use this energy to perform
their daily functions and tasks. We also eat food to help rebuild and repair damaged and old cells.
Diets are particular foods that are eaten by a particular person or group. There are many types of

The easiest way to lower a persons' risk of lifestyle disease is to change their diet to a more
healthful one, and staying out of harmful environments. So, lifestyle diseases are diseases that
you can't always control but a person can greatly lower his risk of obtaining them. There are six
different food groups and they are: Fruit, Grain, Lean Meat and Poultry, Milk and Dairy, and
Vegetables. You should eat mostly grains, vegetables, and fruits. From most to least you should
eat: Grain, Vegetables, Fruit, Lean Meat and Poultry, Milk and Dairy, and then lastly fats, oils,
and sweets. You should in small amounts and only sometimes eat fats, oils, and sweets. All of
these different food groups contribute to your daily diet. The Daily intake guidelines are the
amounts and percentages of fats, proteins, carbs, etc. that a person should intake every day for
healthy eating. These guidelines are based on your weight; for example a person who weighs
100 lbs. would need less carbs than a person who weighs 200 lbs. It is also based on your level of
physical activity, height, and age. The daily intake (DI) you see on various foods is based on an
average adult's daily requirement of 8700kJ. The amount of kJ a person needs varies from person
to person because we are all different and require different amounts of nutrients. Minerals are a class

Food Sustainability
Consumption of food has been recognised as a key sustainability issue, due to both food wastage
and overconsumption of food. This can be clearly observed in the United Nations, where the Food
and Agriculture Organisation is calling for change in the food and agriculture sector to adapt a more
sustainable approach. Consumers, businesses, and governments all have significant roles to play in
moving forward to address sustainability issues, in relation to food. It is an imperative for consumers
to first take note of their own impact towards food sustainability and to address whether there are
steps they can take in their own lives to diminish both food wastage and overconsumption. Issues
such as overconsumption are in large, due to the excess demand for food by consumers and can
thus, be addressed by consumers individually if the will is there. Businesses have an imperative to
set sustainability goals and to ensure that sustainability is a key issue that is addressed within all
corporations....show more content...
The government has an imperative to ensure that businesses are pushed towards practicing
ethically and sustainably from the farms all the way to the consumer. The government should use
law and policy to manage business practices. Finally, there are a shared imperative that all
stakeholders should pursue. For now, perhaps the most important goal for food sustainability is
awareness. Awareness of the issue will allow for both discussion of the issue as well as a push for
action from society. If food sustainability is generally agreed upon as an issue in society, then steps
can be made from all parties to best address the

The Most Memorable Meal Essay
The Most Memorable Meal
As a food lover and adventurous eater, I've certainly eaten so many kinds of food from many
countries around the world. And I have a lot of good and bad moments related to food. However,
when you ask me about the most memorable meal that I have eaten in my life, perhaps the first thing
that appears in my mind is my daddy's soup.
It was 10 years ago, when I was just a little boy. At that time, my mom had so much work at her
office and she just couldn't come back home until 9 p.m. In my family, my mom was the only one
who could prepare food and cook. So when she called my dad and said that she couldn't come back
home early to cook a meal for me and my father, we thought that we were having the biggest problem

And I was so surprised about my dad's soup. All my thoughts about a great meal were taken down.
The soup was not as delicious as it looked, it tasted so weird: at first, I felt it so salty, after a while,
it tasted so spicy. After tasting the first sip, I looked at my dad and smiled. He just thought that he
was successful with his soup until he tried his first sip. Then he knew how his soup was and he
said "Sorry son, I tried my best, maybe we can wait for mom to come back home and cook dinner
for us." As soon as he finished speaking, I took the spoon, continued eating the soup and smiled. I
know the soup was not good, but it was from my dad, from all his love for me. I don't know if my
dad knew what I was thinking or not, or maybe he thought that I was so hungry to eat everything
even though it tasted too bad. My dad was so surprised about my act for a while, and he continued
to eat the soup with me. We both had a great time together, eating and talking with each other
about bad things, good things at work and school. After that, my mom finally came home. She
looked so tired from her work, but she still smiled and looked at me and my dad while both of us
were eating soup. She surely knew my dad made something for me and she slowly went forward to
the table and started tasting the soup. After her tasting, not a single word, she hugged both of us
with her slender arms and also with all her heart. This

Persuasive Essay On Healthy Food
When something is detrimental to our health, we strive to avoid it whenever possible to extend
our lives. We know that exposure to known cancer causing agents such as asbestos and lead paint
is harmful; therefore, we do not expose ourselves to the risk and we certainly do not eat it. This
seems simple; however, what do we do when that harmful vice is food? We cannot stop eating;
instead, we must closely examine what we are putting into our bodies. When faced with the choice
of a burger or grilled vegetables, most would choose the burger. These choices have lead us down a
path littered with food related diseases, illnesses and rising healthcare costs. The state of Americans
health is declining due to increasing obesity, diabetes and...show more content...
The advertisement sounds and looks believable until you read the label on the package. The salad
dressing adds excessive calories and fat that often exceeds the amounts for a small hamburger,
making it the unhealthy option.
Society must educate itself on what type of food is healthy such as fresh or fresh frozen vegetables,
lean meats, whole grains and fruits. Parents should take the time to explain what these are and why
they are important, educating themselves if necessary. Families can also extend this education to a
hands–on experience but starting a small vegetable garden which produces some of the vegetables
they eat. Author and farmer, Sharon Astyk, and sustainable systems land planner, Aaron Newton,
argue that people need to take back the control of the food selection and prices by growing their
own or purchasing directly from local farmers. In their article, "The Rich Get Richer: the Poor Go
Hungry", Astyk and Newton (2015) write, "When we grow our own food, or buy it directly from
local farmers, we take power away from multinationals" (p.518). I agree that society should become
more involved and self–sustaining pertaining to food to retain independence from companies that
are loyal to shareholders. This education will provide the current and future generations necessary
resources to make improved food choices, thereby reducing the obesity and diabetes epidemics
gripping our nation.

People all around the world are busy. Busy with work, school and other extra activities. No one
ever has time to cook, so families are always going out to eat at a restaurant. This essay will include
comparison between eating at home and eating at a restaurant in terms of the price, cleanliness, taste
and service.
When a family eats at home they, will pay less than restaurants because when they buy food from the
market they buy for better quality and a better price.
When families eat at home they know everything that has been added in their meal and know the
cleanliness of their own kitchen. Moreover, they know if the food was washed and cooked well. At
home they know that the cook has washed his/her hands. Also at...show more content...
Eating at home is how to maintain a good health.
Eating at home is of course better in everything for example service, service at home is usually
better because you can serve your self without waiting for someone to serve you. You can get how
much you want whenever you want. But some individuals would have domestic helpers for their
house work, also they may serve the family their meal.
Eating at a restaurant is more expensive than home food, its usually more expensive because the
restaurant adds taxes and money for the service. Also, the restaurant serves sometimes less quality
than what you buy and less quantity.
When you eat at a restaurant where you eat may be very clean and spotless so they can attract
people going in this restaurant and eating but the worst part is you are never sure about their kitchen
cleanliness unless you go inside where your meal is cooked.
Eating at a restaurant (taste)
When people go to restaurants they like the food more because it is very oily and fatty and in fast
food restaurants example McDonalds tastes good because they add the chickens skin and spices that
makes the burger tastier which makes you the eater fattier and therefore affects his/her health.
Eating at a restaurant (service)
When you eat at a restaurant, first the waiter must ask you if you want water and a starter later on,
he/she comes and asks if you picked your order yet if so you would order but

Essay on Food Sustainability
In food service it is important to realize and address hot button issues within the industry to begin to
understand what the target market wants, increase revenue and decrease cost centers. In researching
the increasingly pressing issue of food sustainability in global food service it was discovered that
implementations are initially expensive and require large amounts of dedication but are ultimately
huge factors in increasing brand loyalty and recognition and gaining popularity within the "green"
market segment. It was the goal of this paper to outline specific concerns posed by the issue of food
sustainability as well as methods of the industry's participation in its solutions and to analyze the
progress made to increase awareness of...show more content...
Additionally, on a socio–cultural level, many consumers feel that restaurants partaking in green
initiatives and operations are doing their part to not only help sustain the earth but also to
conserving natural resources (Hu, Parsa & Self, 2010). "Going green" is not simply a trend in the
food service industry but around the world and in all forms of business. Corporate companies
consider "going green" as a sensible business strategy in building recognition for corporate social
responsibility among consumers concerned with environmental conservation efforts. Lastly,
technological initiatives such as Energy Star appliances (dishwashers, refrigerators, ice machines,
etc.) and faucets that use less water must also be analyzed in their ecological conservation capability
and weighed against their financial costs (University of Notre Dame, 2014).
"Reduce, reuse, and recycle" is a motto that pioneered environmental programs in schools, and public
announcements. This motto also holds true in the food service industry. Following the trend to "go
green" means implementing this motto into restaurant operations. This includes procedural changes
that aim to reduce the amount of resources used, attempting to reuse resources, and recycling those
that cannot be reused. Restaurants can move toward more sustainable food service through the

Reflective Essay About Food
Food brings everyone together no matter what culture you are in. Culture is a way of life shared
by a group of people, beliefs, customs, symbols and etc. Many families can spend time with each
other by preparing and eating dinner at the table, going out for dinner or just celebrating holidays. In
my family, when we eat at the dinner table, we talk about our day and build better bonds through
our interactions. My mother cooks the meal, my sisters and I set up the table with utensils and
place mats and my father is ready to eat. We all sit at the table, no technology, elbows off the table
and we give grace. While we eat, we talk about our day or anything exciting has happened and we
argue and laugh with each other.
Being in my family, we have made many traditions that have been part of my culture since I was a
kid. Going to Disneyland is one of the traditions we have. The entire family would go come to
have a good time with each other. Since we were a big family, it would be too expensive to buyfood
for everyone so we make sandwiches. Everyone would contribute to bring food, my parents would
bring bread, my uncles would bring the meats and veggies and my aunts would bring chips and
sodas. Being a hispanic family, we would also bring black beans with bread. Since its too much to
carry, we would meet up at the cars in the parking structure and eat in the cars. The sandwiches
weren't just ordinary sandwiches, the bread which call " pan frances" basically french bread.

Eating Is Something That I Love And Enjoy
Eating is something that I love and enjoy greatly, I love to try new foods and explore new recipes
with my girlfriend. We generally try to make one new recipe each week. I am not a very picky
eater, however, there are some foods that I do not enjoy at all, such as asparagus, mushrooms, and
brussels sprouts. Most people sit down and have three larger meals a day along with some
snacks. I don't eat very much at one time. Generally, I will eat two eggs in the morning, half a
sandwich for lunch with salad or another side, and for dinner I will have a regular sized portion
of whatever we decide to cook that night. I do enjoy snacking on little things like crackers
throughout the day as well. My eating habits revolve around a busy schedule; I am a full time
student and I have two jobs. So, I spend a lot of time eating in my car or at work. I work with a little
boy who is non–verbal and has autism. He is quite a handful; whenever I am with him I need
something I can eat quickly such as a sandwich, piece of fruit, or a protein bar. I generally try to
eat fairly healthy when I can, which is often hard being so busy and not having a lot of money. To
go back to where my eating habits all started. When I was younger my family ate a lot of
processed foods. My mom was gone on business trips a lot. So, that left my dad in charge for
taking care of my brother and I; he was not the best cook. We would eat things such as ham steak,
pasta, ring dings, and even hotdogs from a can. I was not

Essay on Save your Food, Save a Life
Imagine living paycheck to paycheck, never knowing whether you are going to have enough
money to buy enough food to get by. Now imagine not even living paycheck to paycheck, rather
living day by day not knowing which of your family members, friends, or even yourself will make
it to the next day. Countless people in this world face this devastating fear every day of their life
due to their lack of food. This lack of food has been caused by high prices of food and high demand
of food, both of which add to a low availability of food for those who cannot afford the necessities.
Meanwhile, high society throws out good food every day simply because it is unwanted, wasting
all of this food that is still perfectly edible and would be relished...show more content...
While this tactic will save money and keep food from being put into landfills, this will not give
any food to food banks. Instead of encouraging customers to eat more food than they want and
causing these customers to overeat, ultimately leading to an increase in obesity levels, restaurants
should send the food untouched and unwanted by its customers to local homeless shelters and
food banks to help feed the people that really need these nutrients rather than wasting this food.
The same article states, "The members of the society also were asked to consider curtailing this
table d'hote, as a war measure, with separate charges for vegetables and potatoes ("Food Saving
Planned by Restaurant Men", The New York Times)." Once again, this is an example of the efforts
being taken by society to keep the waste level of food low. This effort as well will not help anyone
but the restaurants who are selling this food. The valiant efforts of eating establishments to stop food
waste does not end with just charging extra for side dishes and bread. Restaurants are attempting to
keep food out of the garbage by giving discounts to those who clean their

Food Essay : My Favorite Food
Food is the one thing that we cannot live without. Even for those who have developed the
discipline to fast for a specified period, eventually, they must start eating again. We love our food
to the point that recorded in history as being the first sin. Food is something we all enjoy, and
sometimes it shows. Most of the human race eats three to four meals a day, and the selection of
those foods are not a part of the recommended daily allowances. I will share my favorite foods, my
least favorite foods, and the reason I eat the way that I do and what foods I will incorporate for a
balance diet.
For me, my favorite likes are warm–hot rolls. I prefer wheat more than white with lots of butter.
Biscuits with butter and my homemade apple butter or bacon jam. Oh, my it's yummy. I also make
granola bars with some butter smeared on the bottom of the pan. I put the butter on the parchment
paper which is the last step before I place them in the oven for 25 minutes in a low–temperature
oven. Another one of my likes is my butter crГЁme frosting on top of a white or chocolate cake,
and I scoop the frosting off with lays potatoes chips. These are my special treat items that I
occasionally enjoy.
The food that I enjoy the most is Mexican food. Burrito smothered in green chill, Carnitas,
quesadillas, tacos, guacamole, are my favorite picks. With the population of Hispanics being so
large in Colorado my family enjoys eating Mexican food. The Mexican food here in North Carolina

Food Culture Essay
Factors Influencing Food Habits and Culture Eating food is essential for all of us, it keep us alive
and also gives us enjoyment at the same time. Food can be defined as any substance that can be
metabolized by an animal to give energy and build tissue. (ilearn) In ancient time, when people feel
hungry, they eat. However, as human history keep developing and evolving, we have a higher
standard on choosing food that we like to eat nowadays. In this paper, we are going to evaluate
factors that are influencing our food habits and food culture. Those factors can be divided into two
main categories, internal factors (individual preference and values) and external factors
(geographical, religion, social, economic and political). Internal...show more content...
Another example would be Chinese like to eat hot pot in winter to keep them warm. In the
northern part of China, there are more spicy dishes than the southern part of China. This is
because eating spicy food will keep people warm. In costal region, there is more seafood than the
inland region. The reason is because it is easier to get fresh seafood in costal region than in the
inland region. Japan is an island surrounded by sea, and that is why eating seafood is famous in
Japan. Some locations are better for growing specific food, for example China have the climate
advantage in growing tea, and France have the advantage in growing wine. Religion is another
external factors influencing food habits and food culture. Different culture has different religion,
different religion has different custom and food is an important part of a religion. Some religion
such as Muslims, consider eating pork as a dirty food, and people should not eat them. Buddhism
do not recommend members to eat meat, because they think that is cruel to kill an animal and that
we should respect them so we should not eat them. Therefore, a lot of Buddhism followers are
vegetarians. Hinduism followers do not eat cow because they think that cows are scarce. People
who believe in a religion will follow the rules of the religion, so this will influence their food habit.
Some religions do not have rules about food, but they have specific food to eat.

Persuasive Essay About Food Bank
Food banks are a terrible solution to a terrible issue. Hunger is one of the biggest issues the
human race experiences. One in nine people in the world, or 795 million people, out of the 7.4
billion people go hungry every day because they do not have enough to eat. Every 10 seconds, a
child dies from hunger–related diseases (The Hunger Project, 2017). The way lots of organizations
try to help these people in need are through food banks. A foodbank is a non–profit, charitable
organization that distributes to those who have difficulty purchasing enough food to avoid hunger.
Food banks are inefficient in aspects of time, money, and effort because so much more can be done
through donations of money, not non–perishable foods and items....show more content...
Another issue arises though, it needs to be transported from the warehouse to the appropriate
drop–off place, which is most likely in a high–density residential area, not an industrial area. The
time it takes for all this to happen is simply too much and non–efficient. We are in an era where time
is valuable. Everyone is so busy with their lives, be it for work, school, family, or hobbies, it is
unnecessary to spend all this time just to donate something that not even the buyer would eat. To
show an example, let's say a donator's name is David. David works a 9–5 job which pays $20 per
hour and has three kids, two of which have swimming practice after school. David picks up his
kids at 5:30, and goes home right in time for dinner. On his dinner table, he has high quality foods
that are packed with nutrients. David remembers there's a food drive raffle near his workplace that
is looking for donations for a chance to win a grand prize. David now has to go out of his way to go
to a grocery store to buy non–perishable foods. Instead of wasting his time going, he can go to the
food bank and simply donate money. If David was planning on spending $5 and 45 minutes for
the whole process, from purchasing the items to dropping them off, he actually spent $20 plus a
few extra dollars for gas. Instead of wasting 45 minutes of his time to get $5 worth of food, he could
easily have donated $25, which go a long way. This will be explained later, but

Homemade Food Is The Best Choice

necessities of humans and also plays a vital role in maintaining good health. People work hard to

They all love homemade food instead of fast food because they say it is delicious. Talking with
people who cook at home, most stated that they make fresh ingredients at home, like grind and

British Broad Casting, The World Health Organization recommends greatly reducing the intake
of processed foods, because it is not freshly made and people do not know how long it is been in

more fresh fruits and vegetables so we can focus on all natural ingredients. Most of the people
who cook at home have their own kitchen garden also, so all the vegetables are fresh and organic.
This gives us a great satisfaction and peace of mind that it is fresh cooked meals from our own

Before the wide spread availability of fast food restaurants, people always cooked their meals at

One of the biggest struggles in my life tends to be food. I love eating, but at the same time, I rather

essentially means my stomach does not enjoy food as much as my mouth does. With each meal, I
face the possibility of becoming nauseous after eating. As a result, I tend to avoid large portions,
greasy, or overly sweet foods. Although, every now and then, I push my fears of food aside and

9.5 billion, that's how many people we will be feeding in the year 2050. Production numbers will
have to increase by 100%, in order to achieve this 70% will come from technology and the remaining
30% will have to come from decreasing food loss and waste, better management of natural resources,
consumer education, and alternatives to conventional livestock.
Feeding a world population that is projected to increase by over 2 billion, will be a challenge when
there is an extreme amount of food loss and waste occurring daily. Most of the consumers in the
world are unaware that "roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human
consumption" is wasted (FAO). If food loss and waste was substantially decreased, the amount of
available food would significantly increase. Global food loss and waste per year are roughly "30%
for cereals, 40–50% for root crops, fruits and vegetables, 20% for oil seeds, meat and dairy plus
35% for fish" (Megatrends in Food). By creating limits on food waste, the top contributors such as
North America, Europe, Asia, and Latin America would create a more efficient transportation system
to deliver produce quickly, increase shelf life, and reuse food waste. Creating a more efficient
transportation system, will allow produce to arrive at the desired destination faster which will
increase the products' shelf life. This will create less food loss from spoiling on the transportation
vehicles or on store's shelves. Another important factor is reusing

Food and Nutrition Essay
Proper nutrition is one of the most essential elements to being healthy and living a long life.
People deal with food every day, and food has been a part of life since the beginning of
civilization. What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet plays a major role in deciding how
healthy we are and how well our body functions. Without proper diet, our body cannot carry out the
functions it needs to perform. Most people have some common knowledge on what is good and
what is bad for the human body to consume. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains are some common
items people think of when they think of healthy foods. However, it is not enough just to know
what foods are good for your body, it is also important to understand why certain foods are...show

These include obesity, diabetes, and several heart conditions. Obesity is the term used for
someone who qualifies as significantly overweight. A BMI (Body Mass Index) records weight in
relation to height. A BMI of 25 is overweight and a BMI of 30 is obese. Obesity is not a disease in
its self but it can lead to different health issues, some fatal. Obesity can be related to eighty
percent of type two diabetes, seventy percent of cardiovascular disease, thirty percent to gall
bladder surgeries, and forty two percent to breast and colon cancer. Unfortunately, obesity rates
in people are rising rapidly. The United States alone had an obesity rate of twenty six percent in
2007. Some cases of obesity are gene related, but most other cases are a result of improper dieting
and exercise among the individual ("Why Is Proper Nutrition Important?", Case Western Reserve

someone is a type II diabetic, their body either produces too little of an amount of insulin, or their
body's cells ignore the insulin. Insulin is important in helping your body use sugar for Kavanaugh 3

Food And Its Impact On Society
Everyone on earth needs food to sustain themselves, but have we ever thought to consider what we
put in our mouths? Foods have changed greatly as humans continue to advance technologically. The
greatest change of food however comes from society. The foods that we eat and create are
influenced greatly by societies behaviors and habits. Foods in a culture sometimes represent a
society itself. These habits vary from around the world. The easiest and most efficient way for a
society to sustain itself is to produce its own food. As nomadic societies grew larger they were
forced to settle and become somewhat of a agricultural society to sustain their larger population.
The crops that were produced varied around the world but as the world became more
technologically advanced foods could be anywhere at any time we wanted. As populations rise
people had to find a way to produce a great deal of food in a short amount of time. Back then it
was simple because there were not many mouths to feed. The people of today are concerned
about the health issues of food ever since it was industrialized. According to Texas A and M
university the meat inspection act was made for, " Detection and Destruction of diseased meat and
/or contaminated meat." These laws and acts came in place for concern of the people. Even today
there is controversy with genetically grown foods. There are major benefits to genetically grown
crops such as growing crops fast but there are also concerns. According to

Essay On Food

  • 1. Persuasive Essay On Food When we eat food, we consume it with thought of it providing nutritional support. Suddenly it has become easier to obtain by just driving though a drive thru and ordering meal instead of it being home–cooking with no thought of where it came from. People believe that the food they eat is giving them nutritional value but in truth it is only doing more harm than good. While some may argue that it is ultimately the responsibility of the consumer because no one is forced to eat, but the main problem it to stop eating a western diet that America has been accustomed to diet or not. Because of the amount of processed food causing chronic diseases, inflation of the pricing of the health care industry, and the constant fact that food is readily available without properly knowing what they're eating, it is not publics fault for obesity it's the food industry fault. The amount of food we eat has become a dangerously high problem and eventually has caused severe medical conditions. Michael Pollan, who's named one of Times magazine's top 100 Most Influential People in 2010 and teaches at the University of California at Berkeley and the writer of the essay called "Escape from the Western Diet. He states, "People eating a western diet are prone to a complex of chronic disease that seldom strike people eating more traditional diets" (421). Pollen's point is that people who eat fatty and junky foods are more likely to catch a chronic disease such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Definition Essay On Food Love has different meanings, it can be different for people. My definition of love is someone who gives you food. Thats true love because it's hard to give up food or give food to someone unless they really need it. You really love someone or something if you share your own food with them. I know my mom loves me because when we go to restraraunts she orders something really fancy and my order is like some chicken finger;I always ask for some of her food and she lets me try it. That shows that she loves me. My definition of love might be different from the rest, but you have to admit it, sharing food means you love Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Food And Drink Essay How to Eat and Drink Healthily when Travelling Maintaining a healthy diet while travelling is not the world's easiest thing to do. Not only is your access to food restricted by what is available around you, but also the temptations to snack and eat junk food are enhanced when you hit the road. The good news is that eating and drinking healthily isn't impossible – you just need to keep these tips and tricks in mind the next time you hit the road. Packing healthier options with you The most obvious way to avoid indulging in bad snacks and drinks is by packing healthier options with you. If you have healthy food with you, you naturally won't feel the need to spend money and end up making bad choices. So, instead of being forced to buy a chocolate...show more content... You don't have to just rely on packed goods in order to stay healthy– it is possible to buy healthy foods and drinks at your destination and on the road. When shopping at the airport or station (gas, bus or train), try to consider the above food choices as your go to items. Purchase turkey or chicken sandwiches, look for nut and fruit mixes with no added chocolate or sugar and skip the sugary beverages for water. Yogurt can be a great option, especially when soothing an upset stomach and opt for salads whenever possible. Just remember to have the dressing on the side to avoid those sneaky calories. Furthermore, check your options beforehand! If you know the route and especially the stations you'll be stopping by, check out what supermarkets or brands are available. You can even find discounts from VoucherBin to eat at restaurants across the UK to ensure you eat healthy and save money. For example, if you are staying at a Premier Inn, browse their website to see the menu and plan your meals ahead of time. The same works with stations, as you can generally see the stores available at the station and plan your shopping accordingly. Make smarter Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Diet and Nutrition Essay A person eats to gain energy from food that allows our body to perform various functions that allows us to survive. The food that people take in will go through their digestive system that then allows them to harness the energy within food. That energy that is taken from the food is then sent, via the bloodstream, to all of the living cells. These cells then use this energy to perform their daily functions and tasks. We also eat food to help rebuild and repair damaged and old cells. Diets are particular foods that are eaten by a particular person or group. There are many types of diets that can either differ in small ways or big ways. Different diets can also be healthy or unhealthy for you. An example of an unhealthy diet is one...show more content... The easiest way to lower a persons' risk of lifestyle disease is to change their diet to a more healthful one, and staying out of harmful environments. So, lifestyle diseases are diseases that you can't always control but a person can greatly lower his risk of obtaining them. There are six different food groups and they are: Fruit, Grain, Lean Meat and Poultry, Milk and Dairy, and Vegetables. You should eat mostly grains, vegetables, and fruits. From most to least you should eat: Grain, Vegetables, Fruit, Lean Meat and Poultry, Milk and Dairy, and then lastly fats, oils, and sweets. You should in small amounts and only sometimes eat fats, oils, and sweets. All of these different food groups contribute to your daily diet. The Daily intake guidelines are the amounts and percentages of fats, proteins, carbs, etc. that a person should intake every day for healthy eating. These guidelines are based on your weight; for example a person who weighs 100 lbs. would need less carbs than a person who weighs 200 lbs. It is also based on your level of physical activity, height, and age. The daily intake (DI) you see on various foods is based on an average adult's daily requirement of 8700kJ. The amount of kJ a person needs varies from person to person because we are all different and require different amounts of nutrients. • 5. Food Sustainability Consumption of food has been recognised as a key sustainability issue, due to both food wastage and overconsumption of food. This can be clearly observed in the United Nations, where the Food and Agriculture Organisation is calling for change in the food and agriculture sector to adapt a more sustainable approach. Consumers, businesses, and governments all have significant roles to play in moving forward to address sustainability issues, in relation to food. It is an imperative for consumers to first take note of their own impact towards food sustainability and to address whether there are steps they can take in their own lives to diminish both food wastage and overconsumption. Issues such as overconsumption are in large, due to the excess demand for food by consumers and can thus, be addressed by consumers individually if the will is there. Businesses have an imperative to set sustainability goals and to ensure that sustainability is a key issue that is addressed within all corporations....show more content... The government has an imperative to ensure that businesses are pushed towards practicing ethically and sustainably from the farms all the way to the consumer. The government should use law and policy to manage business practices. Finally, there are a shared imperative that all stakeholders should pursue. For now, perhaps the most important goal for food sustainability is awareness. Awareness of the issue will allow for both discussion of the issue as well as a push for action from society. If food sustainability is generally agreed upon as an issue in society, then steps can be made from all parties to best address the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. The Most Memorable Meal Essay The Most Memorable Meal As a food lover and adventurous eater, I've certainly eaten so many kinds of food from many countries around the world. And I have a lot of good and bad moments related to food. However, when you ask me about the most memorable meal that I have eaten in my life, perhaps the first thing that appears in my mind is my daddy's soup. It was 10 years ago, when I was just a little boy. At that time, my mom had so much work at her office and she just couldn't come back home until 9 p.m. In my family, my mom was the only one who could prepare food and cook. So when she called my dad and said that she couldn't come back home early to cook a meal for me and my father, we thought that we were having the biggest problem in...show more content... And I was so surprised about my dad's soup. All my thoughts about a great meal were taken down. The soup was not as delicious as it looked, it tasted so weird: at first, I felt it so salty, after a while, it tasted so spicy. After tasting the first sip, I looked at my dad and smiled. He just thought that he was successful with his soup until he tried his first sip. Then he knew how his soup was and he said "Sorry son, I tried my best, maybe we can wait for mom to come back home and cook dinner for us." As soon as he finished speaking, I took the spoon, continued eating the soup and smiled. I know the soup was not good, but it was from my dad, from all his love for me. I don't know if my dad knew what I was thinking or not, or maybe he thought that I was so hungry to eat everything even though it tasted too bad. My dad was so surprised about my act for a while, and he continued to eat the soup with me. We both had a great time together, eating and talking with each other about bad things, good things at work and school. After that, my mom finally came home. She looked so tired from her work, but she still smiled and looked at me and my dad while both of us were eating soup. She surely knew my dad made something for me and she slowly went forward to the table and started tasting the soup. After her tasting, not a single word, she hugged both of us with her slender arms and also with all her heart. This Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Persuasive Essay On Healthy Food When something is detrimental to our health, we strive to avoid it whenever possible to extend our lives. We know that exposure to known cancer causing agents such as asbestos and lead paint is harmful; therefore, we do not expose ourselves to the risk and we certainly do not eat it. This seems simple; however, what do we do when that harmful vice is food? We cannot stop eating; instead, we must closely examine what we are putting into our bodies. When faced with the choice of a burger or grilled vegetables, most would choose the burger. These choices have lead us down a path littered with food related diseases, illnesses and rising healthcare costs. The state of Americans health is declining due to increasing obesity, diabetes and...show more content... The advertisement sounds and looks believable until you read the label on the package. The salad dressing adds excessive calories and fat that often exceeds the amounts for a small hamburger, making it the unhealthy option. Society must educate itself on what type of food is healthy such as fresh or fresh frozen vegetables, lean meats, whole grains and fruits. Parents should take the time to explain what these are and why they are important, educating themselves if necessary. Families can also extend this education to a hands–on experience but starting a small vegetable garden which produces some of the vegetables they eat. Author and farmer, Sharon Astyk, and sustainable systems land planner, Aaron Newton, argue that people need to take back the control of the food selection and prices by growing their own or purchasing directly from local farmers. In their article, "The Rich Get Richer: the Poor Go Hungry", Astyk and Newton (2015) write, "When we grow our own food, or buy it directly from local farmers, we take power away from multinationals" (p.518). I agree that society should become more involved and self–sustaining pertaining to food to retain independence from companies that are loyal to shareholders. This education will provide the current and future generations necessary resources to make improved food choices, thereby reducing the obesity and diabetes epidemics gripping our nation. • 8. People all around the world are busy. Busy with work, school and other extra activities. No one ever has time to cook, so families are always going out to eat at a restaurant. This essay will include comparison between eating at home and eating at a restaurant in terms of the price, cleanliness, taste and service. When a family eats at home they, will pay less than restaurants because when they buy food from the market they buy for better quality and a better price. When families eat at home they know everything that has been added in their meal and know the cleanliness of their own kitchen. Moreover, they know if the food was washed and cooked well. At home they know that the cook has washed his/her hands. Also at...show more content... Eating at home is how to maintain a good health. Eating at home is of course better in everything for example service, service at home is usually better because you can serve your self without waiting for someone to serve you. You can get how much you want whenever you want. But some individuals would have domestic helpers for their house work, also they may serve the family their meal. Eating at a restaurant is more expensive than home food, its usually more expensive because the restaurant adds taxes and money for the service. Also, the restaurant serves sometimes less quality than what you buy and less quantity. When you eat at a restaurant where you eat may be very clean and spotless so they can attract people going in this restaurant and eating but the worst part is you are never sure about their kitchen cleanliness unless you go inside where your meal is cooked. Eating at a restaurant (taste) When people go to restaurants they like the food more because it is very oily and fatty and in fast food restaurants example McDonalds tastes good because they add the chickens skin and spices that makes the burger tastier which makes you the eater fattier and therefore affects his/her health. Eating at a restaurant (service) When you eat at a restaurant, first the waiter must ask you if you want water and a starter later on, he/she comes and asks if you picked your order yet if so you would order but Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Essay on Food Sustainability In food service it is important to realize and address hot button issues within the industry to begin to understand what the target market wants, increase revenue and decrease cost centers. In researching the increasingly pressing issue of food sustainability in global food service it was discovered that implementations are initially expensive and require large amounts of dedication but are ultimately huge factors in increasing brand loyalty and recognition and gaining popularity within the "green" market segment. It was the goal of this paper to outline specific concerns posed by the issue of food sustainability as well as methods of the industry's participation in its solutions and to analyze the progress made to increase awareness of...show more content... Additionally, on a socio–cultural level, many consumers feel that restaurants partaking in green initiatives and operations are doing their part to not only help sustain the earth but also to conserving natural resources (Hu, Parsa & Self, 2010). "Going green" is not simply a trend in the food service industry but around the world and in all forms of business. Corporate companies consider "going green" as a sensible business strategy in building recognition for corporate social responsibility among consumers concerned with environmental conservation efforts. Lastly, technological initiatives such as Energy Star appliances (dishwashers, refrigerators, ice machines, etc.) and faucets that use less water must also be analyzed in their ecological conservation capability and weighed against their financial costs (University of Notre Dame, 2014). "Reduce, reuse, and recycle" is a motto that pioneered environmental programs in schools, and public announcements. This motto also holds true in the food service industry. Following the trend to "go green" means implementing this motto into restaurant operations. This includes procedural changes that aim to reduce the amount of resources used, attempting to reuse resources, and recycling those that cannot be reused. Restaurants can move toward more sustainable food service through the utilization of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Reflective Essay About Food Food brings everyone together no matter what culture you are in. Culture is a way of life shared by a group of people, beliefs, customs, symbols and etc. Many families can spend time with each other by preparing and eating dinner at the table, going out for dinner or just celebrating holidays. In my family, when we eat at the dinner table, we talk about our day and build better bonds through our interactions. My mother cooks the meal, my sisters and I set up the table with utensils and place mats and my father is ready to eat. We all sit at the table, no technology, elbows off the table and we give grace. While we eat, we talk about our day or anything exciting has happened and we argue and laugh with each other. Being in my family, we have made many traditions that have been part of my culture since I was a kid. Going to Disneyland is one of the traditions we have. The entire family would go come to have a good time with each other. Since we were a big family, it would be too expensive to buyfood for everyone so we make sandwiches. Everyone would contribute to bring food, my parents would bring bread, my uncles would bring the meats and veggies and my aunts would bring chips and sodas. Being a hispanic family, we would also bring black beans with bread. Since its too much to carry, we would meet up at the cars in the parking structure and eat in the cars. The sandwiches weren't just ordinary sandwiches, the bread which call " pan frances" basically french bread. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Eating Is Something That I Love And Enjoy Eating is something that I love and enjoy greatly, I love to try new foods and explore new recipes with my girlfriend. We generally try to make one new recipe each week. I am not a very picky eater, however, there are some foods that I do not enjoy at all, such as asparagus, mushrooms, and brussels sprouts. Most people sit down and have three larger meals a day along with some snacks. I don't eat very much at one time. Generally, I will eat two eggs in the morning, half a sandwich for lunch with salad or another side, and for dinner I will have a regular sized portion of whatever we decide to cook that night. I do enjoy snacking on little things like crackers throughout the day as well. My eating habits revolve around a busy schedule; I am a full time student and I have two jobs. So, I spend a lot of time eating in my car or at work. I work with a little boy who is non–verbal and has autism. He is quite a handful; whenever I am with him I need something I can eat quickly such as a sandwich, piece of fruit, or a protein bar. I generally try to eat fairly healthy when I can, which is often hard being so busy and not having a lot of money. To go back to where my eating habits all started. When I was younger my family ate a lot of processed foods. My mom was gone on business trips a lot. So, that left my dad in charge for taking care of my brother and I; he was not the best cook. We would eat things such as ham steak, pasta, ring dings, and even hotdogs from a can. I was not Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Now imagine not even living paycheck to paycheck, rather living day by day not knowing which of your family members, friends, or even yourself will make it to the next day. Countless people in this world face this devastating fear every day of their life due to their lack of food. This lack of food has been caused by high prices of food and high demand of food, both of which add to a low availability of food for those who cannot afford the necessities. Meanwhile, high society throws out good food every day simply because it is unwanted, wasting all of this food that is still perfectly edible and would be relished...show more content... While this tactic will save money and keep food from being put into landfills, this will not give any food to food banks. Instead of encouraging customers to eat more food than they want and causing these customers to overeat, ultimately leading to an increase in obesity levels, restaurants should send the food untouched and unwanted by its customers to local homeless shelters and food banks to help feed the people that really need these nutrients rather than wasting this food. The same article states, "The members of the society also were asked to consider curtailing this table d'hote, as a war measure, with separate charges for vegetables and potatoes ("Food Saving Planned by Restaurant Men", The New York Times)." Once again, this is an example of the efforts being taken by society to keep the waste level of food low. This effort as well will not help anyone but the restaurants who are selling this food. The valiant efforts of eating establishments to stop food waste does not end with just charging extra for side dishes and bread. Restaurants are attempting to keep food out of the garbage by giving discounts to those who clean their Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Food Essay : My Favorite Food Food is the one thing that we cannot live without. Even for those who have developed the discipline to fast for a specified period, eventually, they must start eating again. We love our food to the point that recorded in history as being the first sin. Food is something we all enjoy, and sometimes it shows. Most of the human race eats three to four meals a day, and the selection of those foods are not a part of the recommended daily allowances. I will share my favorite foods, my least favorite foods, and the reason I eat the way that I do and what foods I will incorporate for a balance diet. For me, my favorite likes are warm–hot rolls. I prefer wheat more than white with lots of butter. Biscuits with butter and my homemade apple butter or bacon jam. Oh, my it's yummy. I also make granola bars with some butter smeared on the bottom of the pan. I put the butter on the parchment paper which is the last step before I place them in the oven for 25 minutes in a low–temperature oven. Another one of my likes is my butter crГЁme frosting on top of a white or chocolate cake, and I scoop the frosting off with lays potatoes chips. These are my special treat items that I occasionally enjoy. The food that I enjoy the most is Mexican food. Burrito smothered in green chill, Carnitas, quesadillas, tacos, guacamole, are my favorite picks. With the population of Hispanics being so large in Colorado my family enjoys eating Mexican food. However, as human history keep developing and evolving, we have a higher standard on choosing food that we like to eat nowadays. In the northern part of China, there are more spicy dishes than the southern part of China. This is because eating spicy food will keep people warm. Japan is an island surrounded by sea, and that is why eating seafood is famous in Japan. Some locations are better for growing specific food, for example China have the climate advantage in growing tea, and France have the advantage in growing wine. Religion is another external factors influencing food habits and food culture. Different culture has different religion, different religion has different custom and food is an important part of a religion. Some religion such as Muslims, consider eating pork as a dirty food, and people should not eat them. Buddhism do not recommend members to eat meat, because they think that is cruel to kill an animal and that we should respect them so we should not eat them. Therefore, a lot of Buddhism followers are vegetarians. Hinduism followers do not eat cow because they think that cows are scarce. People who believe in a religion will follow the rules of the religion, so this will influence their food habit. Some religions do not have rules about food, but they have specific food to eat. • 15. Persuasive Essay About Food Bank Food banks are a terrible solution to a terrible issue. Hunger is one of the biggest issues the human race experiences. One in nine people in the world, or 795 million people, out of the 7.4 billion people go hungry every day because they do not have enough to eat. Every 10 seconds, a child dies from hunger–related diseases (The Hunger Project, 2017). The way lots of organizations try to help these people in need are through food banks. A foodbank is a non–profit, charitable organization that distributes to those who have difficulty purchasing enough food to avoid hunger. Food banks are inefficient in aspects of time, money, and effort because so much more can be done through donations of money, not non–perishable foods and items....show more content... Another issue arises though, it needs to be transported from the warehouse to the appropriate drop–off place, which is most likely in a high–density residential area, not an industrial area. The time it takes for all this to happen is simply too much and non–efficient. We are in an era where time is valuable. Everyone is so busy with their lives, be it for work, school, family, or hobbies, it is unnecessary to spend all this time just to donate something that not even the buyer would eat. To show an example, let's say a donator's name is David. David works a 9–5 job which pays $20 per hour and has three kids, two of which have swimming practice after school. David picks up his kids at 5:30, and goes home right in time for dinner. On his dinner table, he has high quality foods that are packed with nutrients. David remembers there's a food drive raffle near his workplace that is looking for donations for a chance to win a grand prize. David now has to go out of his way to go to a grocery store to buy non–perishable foods. Instead of wasting his time going, he can go to the food bank and simply donate money. If David was planning on spending $5 and 45 minutes for the whole process, from purchasing the items to dropping them off, he actually spent $20 plus a few extra dollars for gas. Instead of wasting 45 minutes of his time to get $5 worth of food, he could easily have donated $25, which go a long way. This will be explained later, but Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I love trying new foods with exotic flavors and unique recipes, but I fear the reaction that by body will force on me. I have recently been diagnosed with a condition known as dyspepsia. This essentially means my stomach does not enjoy food as much as my mouth does. With each meal, I face the possibility of becoming nauseous after eating. As a result, I tend to avoid large portions, greasy, or overly sweet foods. Although, every now and then, I push my fears of food aside and fully indulge myself in spectacular meals. Poe's Tavern has been the restaurant in which I break beyond my fears and gorge on food. Located in Wrightsville beach, Poe's Tavern tends to be one of my favorite places to eat to feel satisfied after a meal, and fascinated as a literary fanatic throughout the entire experience. This restaurant has been created in honor of the author and poet, Edgar Allan Poe. Poe has been credited as the creator of the mystery and horror genera. He tends to be most well known for his poems and short stories, in which Poe's Tavern glorifies through their restaurant environment as well as food selection. • 18. Persuasive Essay On Food 9.5 billion, that's how many people we will be feeding in the year 2050. Production numbers will have to increase by 100%, in order to achieve this 70% will come from technology and the remaining 30% will have to come from decreasing food loss and waste, better management of natural resources, consumer education, and alternatives to conventional livestock. Feeding a world population that is projected to increase by over 2 billion, will be a challenge when there is an extreme amount of food loss and waste occurring daily. Most of the consumers in the world are unaware that "roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption" is wasted (FAO). If food loss and waste was substantially decreased, the amount of available food would significantly increase. Global food loss and waste per year are roughly "30% for cereals, 40–50% for root crops, fruits and vegetables, 20% for oil seeds, meat and dairy plus 35% for fish" (Megatrends in Food). By creating limits on food waste, the top contributors such as North America, Europe, Asia, and Latin America would create a more efficient transportation system to deliver produce quickly, increase shelf life, and reuse food waste. Creating a more efficient transportation system, will allow produce to arrive at the desired destination faster which will increase the products' shelf life. This will create less food loss from spoiling on the transportation vehicles or on store's shelves. Another important factor is reusing Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Food and Nutrition Essay Proper nutrition is one of the most essential elements to being healthy and living a long life. People deal with food every day, and food has been a part of life since the beginning of civilization. What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet plays a major role in deciding how healthy we are and how well our body functions. Without proper diet, our body cannot carry out the functions it needs to perform. Most people have some common knowledge on what is good and what is bad for the human body to consume. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains are some common items people think of when they think of healthy foods. Obesity can be related to eighty percent of type two diabetes, seventy percent of cardiovascular disease, thirty percent to gall bladder surgeries, and forty two percent to breast and colon cancer. Unfortunately, obesity rates in people are rising rapidly. The United States alone had an obesity rate of twenty six percent in 2007. Some cases of obesity are gene related, but most other cases are a result of improper dieting and exercise among the individual ("Why Is Proper Nutrition Important?", Case Western Reserve University). Type II diabetes is another major effect from improper diet and nutrition. When someone is a type II diabetic, their body either produces too little of an amount of insulin, or their body's cells ignore the insulin. Insulin is important in helping your body use sugar for Kavanaugh 3 energy. When a person consumes food with sugar, the sugar is broken down into glucose. • 20. Food And Its Impact On Society Everyone on earth needs food to sustain themselves, but have we ever thought to consider what we put in our mouths? Foods have changed greatly as humans continue to advance technologically. The greatest change of food however comes from society. The foods that we eat and create are influenced greatly by societies behaviors and habits. Foods in a culture sometimes represent a society itself. These habits vary from around the world. The easiest and most efficient way for a society to sustain itself is to produce its own food. As nomadic societies grew larger they were forced to settle and become somewhat of a agricultural society to sustain their larger population. The crops that were produced varied around the world but as the world became more technologically advanced foods could be anywhere at any time we wanted. As populations rise people had to find a way to produce a great deal of food in a short amount of time. Back then it was simple because there were not many mouths to feed. The people of today are concerned about the health issues of food ever since it was industrialized. According to Texas A and M university the meat inspection act was made for, " Detection and Destruction of diseased meat and /or contaminated meat." These laws and acts came in place for concern of the people. Even today there is controversy with genetically grown foods.
