The Clips in Relation to Constructivist and Socio-Cultural...
Consider the clips in relation to constructivist and socio–cultural approaches to learning. How do
they reflect an image of the child as strong and capable and the value of knowledge acquired within
homes and families?
The first clear example was Morgan (McWilliams, 2011), she displayed a perfect example of the
Zone of proximal development, as she learned a new skill through social guidance and interaction
with her mum, then she felt the sense of achievement when she completed the task independently.
This comes along with the clip of the two boys washing the dishes (RendiStDenis, 2011).It shows
how the children are capable of doing things acquired from the community around them through
their contribution to the world (DEEWER, 2009), as it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, she mentioned that "being an active citizen is a contested kind of belonging" (Giugni,
2011,P.16). When she talked about the political involvement in their daily practice, she made me
think that it is beyond the vote in elections, it is about respecting their interests in whatever they are
involved in and giving them the chance to show competence in exploring new fields.
What did you find interesting or challenging in Burman's chapter about Piaget and Vygotsky?
Burman, (2008) demonstrated different views about how piaget's and vygotsky's theories were
influenced by the social and political changes. For example, Piaget's theories were in time when
there was a great interest in science. Therefore, his theories were, "...to link biology and philosophy
through the study of the development of the child" (Burman, E; 2008, p. 244). Nowadays, as
educators, we are also affected by the political agenda that encourages and protects our cultural
diversity. For example, you can find our program build on how to respect and deal with different
traditions and cultures in our community using various activities.

The Development And Constant Change Of Infants Essay
The development and constant change of infants is mind–blowing and incredible. Each infant
develops at approximately the same, quick pace, but each small life in the grand scheme of infant
development could vary greatly (Santrock, 2016). There are many different factors that must be
considered in the first years of life that are extremely crucial for development and change. In order
to better understand infant development, it is important to consider how each of these factors will
affect the baby; three examples of these factors are sleep patterns, eating habits, and motor
development, all which impact the general health of the infant overall.
It is relatively general knowledge that infants tend to sleep much more than the average child, adult,
or adolescent. My virtual child, Margo, in between three and eight months, was sleeping six hours
out of the night, and taking a few two–hour naps during the day, consistently sleeping about 12
hours per day (My Virtual Child, 2014). The average amount of sleep that an infant will get on any
given night is anywhere in between ten to twenty–one hours per day (Santrock, 2016). Based on this
knowledge, it can be concluded that Margo's sleeping habits are not necessarily abnormal for her
age. Margo was also strictly breastfed. In the study Infant Sleep Development from 3 to 6 Months
Postpartum: Links with Maternal Sleep and Paternal Involvement, it was stated that there was
correlation between infants that were strictly breastfed at

Tamagotchi Research Paper
Every child's favorite "pet"
When ever I think of my childhood there is always one memory that always pops into my head;
playing with my tamagotchi all throughout elementary school. A tamagotchi is a small oval–shaped
device that consists of a screen and a few buttons. What made the tamagotchi appealing to me was
the concept of the egg hatching when you first start the game and you care for it until it grows its
wings/"dies." How well the child cares for the pet will determine how healthy and well–behaved the
pet is. When I was playing with the tamagotchi, I always made sure that they were cared for
extremely well, and I would even sneak it to school with me to make sure it was not neglected.
Having the tamagotchi was my first experience of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think that seeing what not to do each time, assured me on what I should do to properly nurture the
virtual pet. Having my pets "get their wings"/die made me feel a sense of disappointment in myself
while mourning the loss of them. Feeling very sad over their "death" is what essentially caused me
to start to improve on my nurturing skills in my opinion. In the beginning, there was great
controversy over the tamagotchi and whether it was too much work for children, and if it was good
for them to experience real emotions from the virtual pet's "death" or not. According to Dorin, the
tamagotchi suggests that life can be suspended when the care is inconvenient, but i find this to be
the opposite. When the care is not good, and the tamagotchi's life is ended, that shows the children
that you cannot "suspend" a life, and you need to give sufficient effort in order to maintain life.Even
though there is an option to reset the toy whenever you want, it still would not give you the exact
same tamagotchi in the end which would show the child that there is no way to get that "life" back.
In my opinion, the tamagotchi is a great alternative to getting a real pet for a child at first. When
children have no basic nurturing skills, we should not be giving them a real life to manage ,such as a
dog, and letting the dog rely on the child for its necessities when the child has no

Virtual Murder Should Be Banned
Hi Darion! I think you make an excellent argument through your post this week. This week's topic is
definitely very controversial and creates a lot of discussion. Considering that virtual paedophilla is
illegal, as you mention in your initial post, I can understand your reasoning for believing that virtual
murder should be banned as well. I however, believe the opposite. As stated by Luck (2009), "some
might argue that it is not the singling out of a group for harm which causes virtual paedophilia to be
worse than virtual murder, per se, but the fact that virtual paedophilia involves harming children in
particular. This argument builds upon the idea that children have a special status" (Luck, 2009). In
accordance with that statement by Luck, in lecture it also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I truly see no harm in virtual murder. According to the PBS News Hour (2013), there is no evidence
that any violent video game has ever caused a real world violent act. I look at playing these games
as a way for children to explore and gain knowledge about the world. In most cases, the child ends
up playing the game as the "good guy", who is fighting the "bad guy" and helping to save the world.
I see nothing wrong with this. I think we should be allowing our children to feel like heroes by
allowing them to participate in such virtual worlds. When referring to the most advanced games
such as Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto, I would not argue against placing age restriction on these
games and I mentioned in my own post, but I do not believe we need to go as far as making them
illegal. Unlike virtual paedophilia, I do not think that virtual murder takes away from the innocence
of a child. I believe that all players realize that the world they are playing in online is a different
world from reality. The players do not act the same way in the real world as they do in the virtual
world. In addition, I do not believe that the people who commit murder in real life do so because
they have done it in

Virtual Child Pornography Case Study
Case 1–Virtual child pornography
Parties are The Federal Child Pornography Prevention Act, the people in the porn video, and the
people recording it. The moral issue is people that are playing in porn videos posing as a child but is
really an older person that looks young, also the people who think this is okay to watch. "Virtual
child pornography" is a term given to video depictions of child/child or child/adult sexual activity in
which the "participants" are not actual children but realistic computer–generated images of children.
This was the reason that The Federal Child Pornography Prevention Act banned this kind of porn
because this is not right to show children bodies off to people for pleasure.
As I did some research I see this, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I as well came across this as I researched about child porn, the "CPPA defined child pornography as:
Any visual depiction, including any photography, film, video, picture or computer–generated image
or picture of sexually explicit conduct, where the production of such visual depiction is, or, appears
to be, of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct; such visual depiction has been created,
adapted, or modified to appear that an identifiable minor is engaging in sexually explicit conduct; or
such visual depiction is advertised, promoted, presented, described, or distributed in such a manner
that conveys the impression that the material is or contains a visual depiction of a minor engaged in
sexually explicit conduct." This to me is sickening and for a person to be able to go online and click
in the search box and google or search in what even search engine they may use and type child porn
and can bare themselves to sit there and watch this is a very heartless person.
The question remains whether the government may criminalize the production and possession of
"virtual child" pornography if no child is used in the production of pornography and the images are
completely fictional." My all around output on the child porn is that I think it is so disgusting and it
is observed and no one

Raising My Virtual Child
Have you ever wondered how your child would turn out based on the choices you make for them? I
had the opportunity to raise my child on the computer. It showed me how even the simplest decision
I made could affect them in a big way. In this paper I will tell you about the background of my child,
the parenting feedback I received as well as what parenting style I have, and what factors influence
my parenting and what the outcomes were.
Through the My Virtual Child program I got the chance to experience what it was like to have a
family. After ten hours of labor through a natural birth, I gave birth to a healthy baby boy (Manis,
2008). My husband and I chose the name Oliver for our baby boy. We chose the name Oliver
because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The textbook says that a major influence to parenting is the child's temperament and birth order (Bee
& Boyd, 2012). One child factor example is that when Oliver was eight he like to play with his
sister in the backyard only if he got to choose the game. Usually I would let him do this because
Sloane was younger and just happy to hang out with her brother. Also Oliver would tend to throw
fits at this age if things did not go his way. So I would usually let them choose the game but
sometimes I would make him play Sloane's games to try to get him used to letting others take
control. The textbook also says that a factor influencing parenting is the parents own upbringing
(Bee & Boyd, 2012). One parent factor example is from my own past. When I was younger I hit my
head playing soccer and got a concussion. Throughout my concussion I went to neurologist and
physical therapy. So when Oliver was ten he fell off his skateboard and hit his head and got a brain
injury, I did the same thing as my parents did for me and took him to neurologist and physical
therapy. And when he recovered from it I put him back in school only taking him out for physical
therapy and still took him to the neurologist annually for check ups. Also the decisions I made to
parent had outcomes later on my sons life. When Oliver was three he wasn't very energetic and like
to do quiet activities inside, so I got him involved in outdoor activities. My husband and I would
play catch outside with him and eventually when he was six years old we signed him up for
baseball. Oliver started to love baseball and began training for the travel team and would later make
the high school baseball team. Another example where my decisions affected the outcome of my son
later in life was when Oliver was eight he became really into drawling, designing things, and
building models so I helped him

Raising My Virtual Child : Raising A Child
Raising My Virtual Child – Smarika
Amrit Raj Subedi PSYC 2314
North Lake College
Raising My Virtual Child – Smarika Raising a Virtual Child had been a great experience for me.
This assignment made me better understand why adolescents are the way they are. I had my own
expectation before the onset of this project, how my virtual child was going to be at age of 18? I was
expecting that my child would be a successful and obedient one. She would be nice and polite,
follow rules and will be good in education. For me, while raising a child, bonding between child and
parents is an important factor to consider. It makes child feel secure and let know that his/her parents
are there to look after their needs. Communication between parent and child is important too. It will
provide a great scenario for learning and aid in cognitive development. Discussing problem with
parents and finding a solution is the best way to go during the childhood. I think parenting is not that
much hard as it seems but is absolutely a sensitive and responsible task to raise a child. I had
enjoyed raising my virtual child and hope my feedback is going to be a good one too.
Prenatal and Postnatal Period Baby Smarika was born approximately after 8 hours of labor. Smarika
began to go into distress, which made doctor to perform a C–section of my wife. My eyes rolled into
tears when I hold her after 10 minutes. I was amazed when I held her in the delivery room. My
partner and I felt the biggest surge

My Virtual Child: Piaget And Vygotsky
My Virtual Child In class we recently went more in–depth into cognitive development. With this
expansion, we learned about well known theorist, Piaget and Vygotsky. To demonstrate their
theories, My Virtual Life represented how cognitive growth and language growth could be shown in
real life situations. With this intention, Scarlett futhers her understanding of how her environment is
applicable to her and continues to excel in language development. Piaget's theory, is separated
cognitive growth into sixth stages. Depending on what stage a child is in, is further categorized as
either preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational. In reference to Piaget's theory,
Scarlett certainly falls within the preoperational stage, but

The Social / Emotional Side Of Development
Introduction I think that Erikson's theory explains Aubree's anxiety. By failure in successfully
completing one stage, it can result in a reduced ability to complete further stages and therefore a
more unhealthy personality and sense of self, (Developing anxiety). I will be focussing on Aubree's
development process throughout her life. I have noticed her characteristics relate more to the social/
emotional side of development. Aubree clearly showed that she had anxiety/ attachment issues
throughout the ages of 0–12, which relates to temperament. What made Aubree get this anxiety?
There are many theories I can relate to Aubree's anxiety. Different theories can relate to different age
groups and development stages. A theory is an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If there are challenges during one stage it is likely this may cause problems in another stage during
the developmental process through the next stages. I think this may have affected Aubree's
development process and is the reasoning behind her anxiety and attachment behaviour. What are
some of the characteristics that Aubree has to prove Erikson's theory regarding emotional/social
development? Infant/ toddler Virtual child I have collected a lot of examples and information from
my virtual child during her infant and toddler years, where it shows her lacking in social and
emotional development. According to my virtual child observations, at 9 months Aubree had an
obvious attachment to me and prefers me over other people, but this is pretty common in infants.
According to Erikson, for 0–2 years "mother" is the significant relationship during these years. This
stage is Basic Trust VS Mistrust which is oral, sensory. Trust as defined by Erikson is "an essential
truthfulness of others as well as a fundamental sense of one 's own trustworthiness." The infant
depends on the parents, especially the mother, for nourishment and comfort. My records also show
that "Aubree was always cautious and shy in most new situations or with new people. With me
present, she will eventually explore, but rarely warms up completely to the strange situation or
person". According to my virtual child it says that

My Virtual Child Paper
My virtual child covers physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development at several age levels.
This gave me an opportunity to visualize "the whole child" at various points in development. I
raised a virtual child from birth to 18 years of age. Each virtual child has a unique set of
characteristics at birth, some of which were influenced by how I answered the assessment I
completed when I first logged onto My Virtual Child. These characteristics gradually emerged and
affected his behavior and development.
My child was a boy so I decided to name him Wolfgang. Wolfgang was born about four weeks
premature and underweight (four and a half pounds). To regulate his body temperature, he spent the

Berk mentions in his book that parent's who resolve conflicts with reason, instead of physical
punishment, have children that are more likely to be socially mature and well developed
intellectually (Berk 2010). Instead, we would put Wolfgang in a time–out, induction, and used
punishment by removal (Berk 2010). I made sure that my partner was included when making
parental decisions because I did not want Wolfgang to start favoring one parent over the other.
When my partner and I decided to get back together, he started doing better in school (except math),
but he still got into fights at school, so my partner and I decided to talk to him about social skills and
taught him techniques he could use when he started to get upset or frustrated.
I'm very happy that Wolfgang has a diverse view on gender roles (Berk 2010). I was nervous at first
because he did not seem to have any interest in Brianna. I feel as if my partner and I splitting, for the
short time we did, caused this effect on Wolfgang. When he was about 3, my partner and I had
Brianna. Wolfgang was a bit distant at the beginning, but he includes his sister while playing with
other kids and he tolerates girls better than other boys do. He enjoys playing the role as the big
brother and taking care of his sister. If he was not playing with her, he was playing make–believe by
himself. I knew this was a good sign. I thought that this would be strengthening his mental abilities,

The Online Simulation My Virtual Child
In the online simulation My Virtual Child, I was responsible in making crucial decisions that
impacted how my child developed. Each decision would either negatively or positively impact my
child's future. The decisions ranged from how I, as the parent would react towards my child when
they were fussy and crying, to making a decision regarding education. These decisions no matter
how slightly small or big played a huge role in my child's future. My parenting style is shown
through the many different decisions I made throughout my child's development. When making
certain decisions I asked myself how I was going to assess the situation. How was I going to make
the decision where it would benefit me and my child in the future? I would describe my parenting
style as very disciplined, however, laid back during certain situations. When there was a problem I
made the decision to address the problem with my child. For example, at 18 months, Leo started
saying the word "no" and started to refuse help. I made the decision to let him choose between two
choices which are both options that I want him to do. This allowed my child to become an active
part in making choices during a certain situation. At three years old, Leo was being pushed around
in school and was lacking leadership abilities. I made the decision to arrange play dates with other
kids and praised Leo for sharing and communicating appropriately with the other children. During
adolescence, Leo's self–esteem was pretty high,

The Characteristics Of My Virtual Child In My Virtual Child
With what I have learned from My Virtual Life, I now understand the complexities of raising and
guiding a child. Mere decisions made during infancy can affect a child's long term physically,
cognitively, and emotionally. To make important developmental decisions simply be classified as a
challenge, it is one of the hardest things parents experience. Making decisions for one's self,
opposed to making decisions to one's child is so challenging that most people will not understand
until they have kids themselves. My virtual child covers physical, social, emotional, and cognitive
development at several age levels. This gave me an opportunity to visualize "the whole child" at
various points in development. I raised a virtual child from birth to 18 years of age. Each virtual
child has a unique set of characteristics at birth, some of which were influenced by how I answered
the assessment I completed when I first logged onto My Virtual Child. These characteristics
gradually emerged and affected his behavior and development. In the virtual child program I
completed I gave birth to a healthy baby girl by the name of Shanti. I chose the name Shanti because
of the meaning. The meaning of Shanti in Hindi means peace, and bliss. When Shanti was at about
six years old, I gave birth to another baby girl and I named her Angeli meaning, angel. During this
whole experience, I was married and there was never any change in our marital status while raising

Virtual Child Observation
Being responsible for the life of another human being can be a little frightening or overwhelming.
Whether the child is real life or, in this case, a virtual child, every single decision made is crucial for
the development of the child's life. Throughout the journey of raising Everett, my virtual son, I was
exposed to a whole new world. I learned so much about the process of teaching and nurturing a
child. It not only is about the love and compassion you give a child, but the discipline and leadership
a parent demonstrates as well. Though these factors contribute greatly to the development of your
child, the way your child behaves and acts is ultimately their decision. Over the virtual life of
Everett, I was faced with many troubling and difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Around the age of eight months, Everett began showing some fearfulness around unfamiliar people
and clung to whoever was holding him at the time. The text defines this as stranger anxiety – "the
caution and wariness displayed by infants when encountering an unfamiliar person" (Feldman
2013). Between the ages of 6 and 9 months, infants are trying to make sense of the world around
them. When face–to–face with a stranger, they experience fear. My decision was to hold Everett and
allow him to warm up slowly to the stranger. I knew that this was normal at his age and did not want
to cause him to be any more frightened. Other than him being fussy at times, Everett was a fairly
"easy" baby. Despite his cautiousness of new people, he adapted rather quickly to friendly people.
He always made eye contact and vocalized. As Everett reached the age of 18 months, I began taking
him to participate in new activities and meet new children and adults. I figured the variety of
experiences would be stimulating and, in the long run, help him warm up to people easier. At this
point, Everett was becoming more and more independent and talkative. He only had about ten words
he said on a regular basis, so I decided that it was a good time to begin working with him with
expanding his vocabulary and communication skills. Everett loved to point at objects and have me
tell them what they were. It was like a little game! At the age of two years old, I began to notice that
Everett was developing self–awareness. One article states, "Awareness involves a unification of
several stimuli into an awareness of one unitary content" (Kriegel, 2009). In this case, that would be
the self. He displayed characteristics of having self–awareness by smiling in pictures, looking guilty
when he made an "uh–oh!", and even showing embarrassment while potty–training. I began working
with Everett to doing things like brush his own teeth, put on his

the great ability to make eye contact, smile, and adapt to new environments very well, which he had
begun to develop at a very young age. At just 9 months, Josiah was already advanced in his gross
and fine motor skills. He enjoyed crawling, pulling up to stand, and manipulating objects. At 19
months, Josiah scored above average in all aspects of language development. He was able to engage

This theory considers external factors, parents, and society in the development of personality from
childhood to adulthood. He developed a series of eight stages that he believed everyone went
through over their lifetime. The third stage is the "preschooler: initiative vs. guilt. This is the stage
where the child began to find purpose. Erikson described that by the age of 3, children began to deal
with conflict and have a desire to gain independence. Josiah definitely went through this stage. At
the age of 3, Josiah began to explore indoor and outdoor activities and let his interests be the guide
to what he would pursue. By kindergarten, Josiah wanted to pick out his own clothes and wanted to
choose what he would eat for lunch. Josiah and I were able to balance his decisions and my rules by
compromising. I was able to pick out two outfits of my choice but allow Josiah to pick from those
two choices so that he had some sort of independency. I also noticed that Josiah begin to interact
with his peers better. He was able to help make up games and discuss new ideas to his teachers.
Erikson's initiative explained the development of purposefulness, trying new activities, trying out
new skills, getting more involved with peers, and conscience development. Guilt, on the other hand,
results in an overly strict superego related to excessive experiences such as criticism and
punishment, from parents. I

Virtual Child Reflection
My virtual child has honestly been super eye opening to me. It has thrown different real–life
situations at me in which I had to respond in a specific way, showing me the difficulty of making a
decision on certain situations. I noticed that every decision that I make will affect my child in their
future reactions, ways that they interact with friends and how they act. Reese has put a significant
amount of time into building friendships and relationships with his peers. I reinforced the
importance of friendships and I believe that friendships insure a good emotional well–being.
Friendships are people to fall back on in times of need. If your teens have good support systems,
they will do better academically. WETA (2017) states that Talking and listening play major roles in
children's school success. I believe that Reece adjusted to typical adolescent issues very well. He
only had one incident of getting in trouble, in which Reese and his friends got caught sneaking into
the school to play basketball. I stressed the importance of following rules and how rules are put in
place for a reason. Reese never got into drugs or alcohol but I did have a problem in which
pornography was downloaded onto our home computer. I believe that this is normal for developing
teenage boys to become curious and explore. I made sure he knew that I believed that porn was
demeaning to women and that it gives people and unrealistic view of male–female relationships. At

way that my child views me and the amount of respect that she gives me. Not only this, but it gave
me a chance to see the things that I was learning in class sort of come to life. When it came time to

hours. I gave birth naturally with my partner by my side. Stella and I bonded hormonally after about
a week, though I chose not to breastfeed her. During her first weeks, Stella mostly slept. When she
was awake, I took time to sing to her and rock her, as well as talking and playing her music. She had

Around 18 months, it's clear that Stella had started to become self aware, by talking to herself when

control because she still needs guidance at this age. By the time Stella begins preschool, she is potty
trained with a few accidents here or there, and seems to be advancing well socially, physically, and
mentally. She had a bit of trouble when she started, becoming scared that I would not come back to
get her, but after I reassured her, she seemed to calm down as soon as I left, demonstrating a bit of
object permanence, that just because I am not there does not mean I have disappeared forever. She is
a bit shy to start, but warmed up making it evident that she is a slow–to–warm up child according to

explore the world around her, and my partner has been spending more quality time with her when
possible. We are saving up to buy a home, so in order to save money we try and do inexpensive

Reflection On Virtual Child
Final Reflection Virtual Child I learned many things through Virtual Child. I learned I babied my
baby too much. Any time she cried I picked her up, if she fell I was always there to pick her up.
Throughout her life I babied her. As a mother I would need to decode her cry's (Clinic. M). which in
real life I believe I would. I believe this because I would not have as much patient as I did with my
virtual child. But decoding cries, would be realizing the difference between a hungry cry and a
diaper change cry. This would be easy, new borns need feed every few hours. You change feel or
look in the diaper to see if the baby needs a clean diaper or its butt has rashes. The harder cries to
decode would be if the baby was hot or cold. You ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Giving them everything they want, to please them because when they are happy I would be happy.
But this teaches the child nothing. This makes children not share well with other kids (Wartik, N.
(2015, August 05). From experience working in a daycare I witnessed and realized which kids were
only children, which kids were adopted and which children were neglected very quickly. Parents
need to find a balance between loving and playing with their children and not neglecting them. This
balance would be hard to do every day but is possible. Telling your child no is hard but must be
done. Telling your kid no every time they ask something is also not right. Many parents are scared to
let their child, be a child. Letting your child fall is normal. Letting your child cry is good. Letting
your kids make friends and not hang out with the parents and family all the time is normal. Even
though it may be hard because this baby is your life, you have to let it grow and do things on his or
her own (Wartik N. (2015, August 05).
This semester I have learned many things. In this program Virtual Child I learned, loving your infant
does not mean you need to smother the child. Letting your kid fail is good for them. I learned about
milestones children should reach at what ages. I know the doctor asks if the child as accomplished
certain milestones but being aware is also really important. So the parents can notice and point it out
to the doctor that

The Virtual Teen Program : A Very Difficult Task
Parenting is a very difficult task and there is no one best way to parent every child. The virtual teen
program simulates a shortened childhood and adolescents for a virtual child that the participant has
to parent. I raised my virtual child until he turned 18 years old and began college. He had a few
issues growing up, including a learning disability in reading and a divorce between his parents. As
well as negatives, there were some positives: he was gifted in both math and science and received
above average scores on most standardized tests. While I think I did well raising my child, I
definitely would change a few things. Firstly, as a baby, I would have socialized him better and more
often, I would have read to and with my virtual child more as that may have lessened the learning
disability, and I also would have been less strict with my child as I was consistently in the top 15%
of parents in regards to discipline. The concepts of parenting styles, school achievement and divorce
continually were brought up during the virtual teen exercise.
When going through the virtual teen program, I consciously tried to employ an authoritative
parenting style, which is high in demandingness and responsiveness (Fritz n.d. a). I think I
accomplished this, but I also had a slight leaning towards authoritarian style as I was typically seen
as being stricter than other parents, and an average level of affection. For instance, my virtual teen
had expressed interest in sexual intercourse

My Virtual Child Is A Web Based Assignment On Raising A...
"My Virtual Child" was a web based assignment on raising a child based on real life scenarios and
answering questions that you are expected to answer as a real parent would. My assignment this
time starts with Link being 9 years old. At 9 Link began to consume allot of food. Eating and
snacking up to 9 times a day, I knew this was normal for his age. Most boys at 12 grow about 4
inches in height and put on 26 pounds every year once they begin puberty (Rogol, Roemmich, &
Clark, 2002). We did our best to guide him into a healthy lifestyle, eating healthy and nutritious
foods along with encouraging him to continue with the swim and water polo teams. Because he
stuck with his sports as he got older, he received a full ride scholarship right out of high school. He
slowly began to show interest in the girls in his class. He began to hang out with them during recess
and lunch, sometimes even hanging out over the weekends. He however begin telling harsh and
disrespectful jokes that involved the physical changes of the many girls at his school when he was
around his male friends. His father took him aside one evening to speak about how to treat a lady
and when it's appropriate to become more involved with a girl. He made it clear to Link that sexual
interest was a real thing and not to be ashamed of, but is not permitted until he is married to the girl
as long as he still lives at home. At 15, Link began to distance himself from both me and his dad. He

My Virtual Child Experience
The virtual child stimulation is an online program that offers students a feel of what it is like to raise
a child and make parenting–decisions concerning that child. Students also learn about the situations
that occur in the three main life stages, and see how their decisions determine how their child will
turn out. The focus of this assignment will be on my virtual child, Jason, the problems that occurred
in the life stages, and the options I chose when raising Jason.
In the Infant/Toddler stage, an incident occurred while we were visiting a relative who owned a
pool. I tried to keep an eye on Jason, but got distracted. I heard a splash, and ran outside to the pool
to find Jason sinking below the surface. I grabbed him and pulled him to safety. I checked to see if
he had swallowed any water, dried him off with a towel, and calmed him down.
After this incident, I was presented with three options. The first option was to speak firmly to him
about staying away from pools so it would make a big impression. The second option was to resolve
to having Jason wear a safety vest whenever he is around pools. The third option was to decide to
enroll Jason in toddler swimming lessons, which emphasize safety, holding your breath, swimming
to the edge of the pool, and holding on. I chose the third option. I felt it necessary to sign him up for
toddler swimming lessons. Studies show that registering your child in a swimming class to learn
how to swim helps reduces the risk of childhood

Demographic information: On February 9, 2014, I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. She came a
week earlier than expected, but she was still perfect. The baby weighed six pounds, eight ounces and
was twenty inches long. I heard her cry; it was like music to my ears. I felt as if I had just won first
place in an Olympic race and my trophy was this cute little bundle of joy. Virtual Husband and I
named her Dakota. (Manis, 2008.) I decided it would be fun to name my virtual child after my
favorite childhood toy, so we named her Dakota, after my teddy bear. Dakota has a virtual sister
whose name is Rose. Her name was decided because a rose is my favorite flower. Although the girls
are three years apart, they get along very well even though when they were younger, Dakota was
very jealous of Rose. My partner and I got along very well until Dakota turned eleven years old. My
Virtual Husband and I just could not see eye to eye and we would bicker over everything. When
Dakota turned twelve, her father and I separated due to irreconcilable differences. I gained custody
of both girls, but most decisions regarding the children had been discussed with Virtual Ex–husband.
I try my best to get along with my ex, but sometimes we still have arguments.
Temperament/Personality: When Dakota was in the preschool stage she was slow to warm up and
had a bit of trouble communicating around new people. She also had a tendency to get upset and had
problems calming herself down. When she got mad

parents experience. Making decisions for one's self, as opposed to making decisions for one's child

According to Jean Piaget, there are four stages of cognitive development that a child will go
through. The first stage is known as the sensorimotor stage; it is from birth to about two years of
age. The sensorimotor stage is a period that the cognitive development rapidly grows and during this
time frame the infant develops "an understanding of the world through trial and error using their
senses and actions (McLeod, 2015)." An example of an experience that Bilal went through during
the sensorimotor stage would be when Bilal was eight months old, I tried the object permanence test

Eating:
When Amelia was born she was 4 weeks premature and underweight (4 and a half pounds). Amelia
would get hungry more often than what the prenatal pamphlets said, "every one to two hours" (My
Virtual Child, 2014). Within her 3 week, she was lethargic, and wasn't gaining much weight because
she wouldn't eat. She would cry after every meal and had problems with diarrhea and ingestion. So
we started giving her solid foods by the time she was 3 months, as well as breastfeeding. Even after
we switched, she was still having problems with indigestion and diarrhea by the time she was 8
months. She was also catching colds a lot. Based on the website, "Babies who are born closer to 32
weeks (just over 7 months) may not be able to eat, breathe, or stay warm on their own. But after
these babies have had time to grow, most of them can leave the hospital" (eMedicineHealth, 2017).

how Amelia "moves restlessly. They can confused the baby being awake just because she is moving

College Writing Importance
If you were to ask a group of people if writing in college is important, almost everyone would agree
that it is, but it's the next question that stumps everyone and makes them have to think a little deeper.
That question is, why? Why is writing in college so important? College writing is a needed necessity
in college, and for your future career because most careers require writing or documenting to be
done. Not only is it important for everyone's career but it is especially important for my future in the
psychology department.
As I explored this question myself, I found it helpful to ask my peers what their thoughts are. My

seeing your child grow up, you have to write essays reflecting on what is happening. Having a
background in college writing will help others including myself get these virtual writing tasks done
efficiently and strongly.
To help explore more about the idea of why college writing would be useful in my desired field of
study, I got in touch with my psychology professor. I asked my professor, what writing is needed in
psychology. Her response was that it depends on what area of psychology you work in, for example
in applied or clinical settings some tasks that deal with writing are treatment plans, clinical or
progress notes, psychological reports, and communication to other coworkers. In jobs such as a
college professor, this includes communication with students, colleagues, writing assignments,
exams, reports to administration, and research articles. When she was asked why writing skills are a
good thing to know in psychology she explained that, psychology in her opinion is only beneficial if
ideas and information can be communicated correctly. Weather it is with students or with or other
professionals, writing is an important thing to know to help get ideas out there in the psychology
field. Lastly, I asked what careers in the psychology field would writing come in handy. My
professor's response was that she

Virtual reality cannot be a provider to the feeling of happiness. It may illustrate a temporary feeling
of it, but VR cannot supply the needs of a person. To find love and belonging in a virtual setting is to
find happiness in a fictional setting. The real world leaves the person behind in a place of personal
satisfaction, but once he realizes his world is limited he takes off the goggles to reveal that his
happiness can simply be lost as effortlessly it was created.

It cannot build friendship, trust, and the ability of cooperate like the real field trip does. The student
can be given the facts and see the grandiose views of unique natural settings, but they cannot
experience a positive social interaction with his classmates. John Patrick Puller, a first time user of
Virtual Reality had experienced a setting where he was placed in the waters to see a whale. He
states, "It was a beautiful moment, but an isolating one. More than anything, I wished my wife could
have been there to share the undersea experience with me. I wanted her to know this awe–inspiring
beauty" (Pullen). The user's trip to the sea was nothing without his partner. It was a moment of
beauty and an indescribable scene where he could live in the water momentarily, but it would have
been better with someone else. Virtual reality does not give the social interaction that makes a field
trip worth the trip. What is a virtual field trip if all it does is display the same thing as a video and
facts that can easily just be read in book to the student? It's the field trip with others that is beneficial
to the student.
There are some cases where virtual reality can actually be as beneficial as reality. In a study

consistent, so at age 6, I decided to enroll her in a physical activity. Trying to thwart her athletic

Case 1, p. 173 "Virtual child pornography" is used as a term that was given to a new domination of

Personal Narrative : My Virtual Parenting Experience
My Virtual Parenting Experience
Life is always a surprise and things usually happen unexpectedly. Life is a mystery and it's funny
how when we are in our childhood years we want to be teenagers and when we are teenagers we
can't wait for that day that we turn 18 and actually become an "adult" and then a couple of years we
go crazy waiting for our big 21.
As a young child or a teenager we imagine our adult life to be like in the movies, where it is easy to
find a job, money comes and go and everything works out perfect for the main character. During
those years we are just being naïve and its funny and it hurts when we actually get pass 21 and we
realize that life is nothing like in the movies and most of our life plans are still just plans and we
haven't accomplish them at the time we wanted.
When we are "adult" meaning over 21 and we start thinking about the future and what we want in
our life one of the first things that comes into mind is that if we want a family with that special
someone that might be with us or if we are alone we always think if we'll ever find that special
someone. During the fall semester of 2015 in college I decided to take a parent–infant relationship
course, and my main reason was my daughter Darianna. I felt like by taking this class I would learn
to be a better mother because I will actually learn more of how a child thinking is different from
adults.

My Virtual Child program basically covers physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development
at several age levels. Various personalized questions were asked and given scenarios that would
shape my child's physical development, cognitive development, and affect his personality. My
Virtual Child has a unique set of characteristics at birth, some of which were influenced by how I
answered and completed the assessment when I first logged into My Virtual Child. These
characteristics gradually emerged and affected his behavior and development. When it was time, our
precious baby boy was born and we decided to name him Noah. Noah as a newborn was fussy and
often wanted to be held. Breastfeeding time seemed to be the perfect soothing method. I enjoyed
breastfeeding because it builds up his immune system. At this point Noah recognized me as his
primary care giver because I was the one always attending to his needs. According to Bowlby's
theory of attachment "The infant knows that the caregiver is dependable, which creates a secure
base for the child to then explore the world". As a result, Noah was more attached to me than he was
to my husband. As time transcurred, he was able to bond to my husband by spending more quality
time together. At 8 months, the physician performed a routine physical exam. He stated that Noah
was advanced in his gross and fine motor skills. Noah enjoyed crawling, pulling him self up to stand

Characteristics of My Virtual Child, Gavin
Introduction to Gavin My virtual child is a male, named Gavin (Manis, 2008). The name Gavin was
chosen because it is a personal favorite and it is also similar to my paternal grandmother's maiden
name, Gavaghan. Gavin has one virtual sibling, a younger sister named Chloe. There is a three year
age difference between the two siblings. According to the program I had a partner and we were
married. Unfortunately, when Gavin was four years old we continued to argue and decided to
separate. Two years later, we finally decided that the relationship was over and to get a divorce.
Gavin's personality is very closely related to the overcontrolled personality type (Manis, 2008). The
overcontrolled category states that the child is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gavin is also very sensitive with his surroundings, and lets his surroundings affect him greatly. This
is a weakness and is shown through different situations on his report cards and through observation.
When Gavin's younger sister was born he became very jealous and started to throw temper tantrums
and show regressive behavior (Manis, 2008). When my partner and I separated and eventually
divorced when Gavin was young he again started throwing temper tantrums and showed regressive
behavior. Also to support this on his first grade report card his teacher wrote "Sometimes Gavin
over–reacts to stressful situations and can become quite upset with himself or others and needs help
calming down" (Manis, 2008). These are the main situations that led me to believe that he is a
sensitive person, which can also be seen as a weakness. Influences on Development Factors play a
big role in everyone's development; in Gavin's development the two biggest factors were genes and
the divorce. Gavin's genes could have influenced his shy behavior. Being shy could have kept him
from experiencing things that could have changed him in many ways. If Gavin had not been so shy
then maybe his language comprehension would not have been continuously below average because
he would have had more practice with the people around him other then his parents. The divorce

Virtual Reality: The Real Life Implications of Raising a...
When I first heard that I would be raising a virtual child, I did not fully understand how this would
change my ideology on decision making and critical thinking and how my thoughts and ideas would
impact the life of another human being. After I told my parents that I would be raising a child
online, they had two reactions. Reaction number one consisted of them laughing because the thought
of raising a child online seemed like a joke because I had absolutely no idea how to raise a child.
Reaction number two came later and was more of an intrigued attitude than before. My parents
watched me click buttons and run through thought processes on making decisions in how to raise
my child from birth to 18 years in a matter of weeks. I had a few goals in mind for myself when I

witness how myself and my siblings were raised and how my friends around me were raised, and I
wanted to make sure that I made my decisions solely on how I felt Taylor should be raised. The
goals that I had for Taylor were for her to grow up to be successful. I wanted her to have all of the
things that she needed, for her to have discipline, and for her to express herself in ways that were

My Virtual Child Essay
My virtual child's name is Dominic. He is a white male of average height and weight with blonde
hair, green eyes and pale skin. Cognitively he seems younger than his chronological age up until
sixth grade. Physically Dominic has always seemed older than his chronological age. The first few
months of Dominic's life were rough at times. I decided from the beginning to feed with formula,
and I would respond to different types of cries. At three months he would cry after each bottle and
have frequent diarrhea, we then decided to switch to a different formula rather than introducing food
(My Virtual Child). The family dynamics of the household changed throughout the years of
Dominic's childhood. When Dominic was born, we lived in a rural ... Show more content on

His evaluation at nine months states that socially he was cautious around new people and situations.
In order to engage in positive interactions with new people he would visit several family members,
neighbors or friends weekly with me or the father to build relationships and familiarity (My Virtual
Child). Emotionally at eight months old, Dominic showed separation anxiety during drop off times
at child–care. At times he would become fussy or irritable, as parents we would make an effort to
engage in physical contact but other times we would let him fuss to build independence (My Virtual
Child). From the age of fifteen months through nineteen months Dominic's physical, social,
language and cognitive development has matured. Although Dominic's physical development has
matured, he is below the norms in fine motor development when he makes towers or puts together
puzzles; His fine motor skills although match the norms (My Virtual Child). Socially, Dominic gets
along with children well although he began to show separation anxiety around eighteen months.
Along with the separation anxiety, he is securely attached to both parents yet he is less clingy and is
interested in exploring (My Virtual Child). Dominic's communication skills and language
comprehension and production are typically developing. He uses the word me a lot and knows over
50 words which he puts into sentences such as "doggie outside" (My Virtual Child).

The Clips In Relation To Constructivist And Socio-Cultural...

  • 1. The Clips in Relation to Constructivist and Socio-Cultural... Consider the clips in relation to constructivist and socio–cultural approaches to learning. How do they reflect an image of the child as strong and capable and the value of knowledge acquired within homes and families? The first clear example was Morgan (McWilliams, 2011), she displayed a perfect example of the Zone of proximal development, as she learned a new skill through social guidance and interaction with her mum, then she felt the sense of achievement when she completed the task independently. This comes along with the clip of the two boys washing the dishes (RendiStDenis, 2011).It shows how the children are capable of doing things acquired from the community around them through their contribution to the world (DEEWER, 2009), as it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, she mentioned that "being an active citizen is a contested kind of belonging" (Giugni, 2011,P.16). When she talked about the political involvement in their daily practice, she made me think that it is beyond the vote in elections, it is about respecting their interests in whatever they are involved in and giving them the chance to show competence in exploring new fields. What did you find interesting or challenging in Burman's chapter about Piaget and Vygotsky? Burman, (2008) demonstrated different views about how piaget's and vygotsky's theories were influenced by the social and political changes. For example, Piaget's theories were in time when there was a great interest in science. Therefore, his theories were, "...to link biology and philosophy through the study of the development of the child" (Burman, E; 2008, p. 244). Nowadays, as educators, we are also affected by the political agenda that encourages and protects our cultural diversity. For example, you can find our program build on how to respect and deal with different traditions and cultures in our community using various activities. References Burman, E. (2008). • 5. The Development And Constant Change Of Infants Essay The development and constant change of infants is mind–blowing and incredible. Each infant develops at approximately the same, quick pace, but each small life in the grand scheme of infant development could vary greatly (Santrock, 2016). There are many different factors that must be considered in the first years of life that are extremely crucial for development and change. In order to better understand infant development, it is important to consider how each of these factors will affect the baby; three examples of these factors are sleep patterns, eating habits, and motor development, all which impact the general health of the infant overall. It is relatively general knowledge that infants tend to sleep much more than the average child, adult, or adolescent. My virtual child, Margo, in between three and eight months, was sleeping six hours out of the night, and taking a few two–hour naps during the day, consistently sleeping about 12 hours per day (My Virtual Child, 2014). The average amount of sleep that an infant will get on any given night is anywhere in between ten to twenty–one hours per day (Santrock, 2016). Based on this knowledge, it can be concluded that Margo's sleeping habits are not necessarily abnormal for her age. Margo was also strictly breastfed. In the study Infant Sleep Development from 3 to 6 Months Postpartum: Links with Maternal Sleep and Paternal Involvement, it was stated that there was correlation between infants that were strictly breastfed at ... • 9. Tamagotchi Research Paper Every child's favorite "pet" When ever I think of my childhood there is always one memory that always pops into my head; playing with my tamagotchi all throughout elementary school. A tamagotchi is a small oval–shaped device that consists of a screen and a few buttons. What made the tamagotchi appealing to me was the concept of the egg hatching when you first start the game and you care for it until it grows its wings/"dies." How well the child cares for the pet will determine how healthy and well–behaved the pet is. When I was playing with the tamagotchi, I always made sure that they were cared for extremely well, and I would even sneak it to school with me to make sure it was not neglected. Having the tamagotchi was my first experience of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think that seeing what not to do each time, assured me on what I should do to properly nurture the virtual pet. Having my pets "get their wings"/die made me feel a sense of disappointment in myself while mourning the loss of them. Feeling very sad over their "death" is what essentially caused me to start to improve on my nurturing skills in my opinion. In the beginning, there was great controversy over the tamagotchi and whether it was too much work for children, and if it was good for them to experience real emotions from the virtual pet's "death" or not. According to Dorin, the tamagotchi suggests that life can be suspended when the care is inconvenient, but i find this to be the opposite. When the care is not good, and the tamagotchi's life is ended, that shows the children that you cannot "suspend" a life, and you need to give sufficient effort in order to maintain life.Even though there is an option to reset the toy whenever you want, it still would not give you the exact same tamagotchi in the end which would show the child that there is no way to get that "life" back. In my opinion, the tamagotchi is a great alternative to getting a real pet for a child at first. When children have no basic nurturing skills, we should not be giving them a real life to manage ,such as a dog, and letting the dog rely on the child for its necessities when the child has no ... • 13. Virtual Murder Should Be Banned Hi Darion! I think you make an excellent argument through your post this week. This week's topic is definitely very controversial and creates a lot of discussion. Considering that virtual paedophilla is illegal, as you mention in your initial post, I can understand your reasoning for believing that virtual murder should be banned as well. I however, believe the opposite. As stated by Luck (2009), "some might argue that it is not the singling out of a group for harm which causes virtual paedophilia to be worse than virtual murder, per se, but the fact that virtual paedophilia involves harming children in particular. This argument builds upon the idea that children have a special status" (Luck, 2009). In accordance with that statement by Luck, in lecture it also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I truly see no harm in virtual murder. According to the PBS News Hour (2013), there is no evidence that any violent video game has ever caused a real world violent act. I look at playing these games as a way for children to explore and gain knowledge about the world. In most cases, the child ends up playing the game as the "good guy", who is fighting the "bad guy" and helping to save the world. I see nothing wrong with this. I think we should be allowing our children to feel like heroes by allowing them to participate in such virtual worlds. When referring to the most advanced games such as Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto, I would not argue against placing age restriction on these games and I mentioned in my own post, but I do not believe we need to go as far as making them illegal. Unlike virtual paedophilia, I do not think that virtual murder takes away from the innocence of a child. I believe that all players realize that the world they are playing in online is a different world from reality. The players do not act the same way in the real world as they do in the virtual world. In addition, I do not believe that the people who commit murder in real life do so because they have done it in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Virtual Child Pornography Case Study Case 1–Virtual child pornography Parties are The Federal Child Pornography Prevention Act, the people in the porn video, and the people recording it. The moral issue is people that are playing in porn videos posing as a child but is really an older person that looks young, also the people who think this is okay to watch. "Virtual child pornography" is a term given to video depictions of child/child or child/adult sexual activity in which the "participants" are not actual children but realistic computer–generated images of children. This was the reason that The Federal Child Pornography Prevention Act banned this kind of porn because this is not right to show children bodies off to people for pleasure. As I did some research I see this, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I as well came across this as I researched about child porn, the "CPPA defined child pornography as: Any visual depiction, including any photography, film, video, picture or computer–generated image or picture of sexually explicit conduct, where the production of such visual depiction is, or, appears to be, of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct; such visual depiction has been created, adapted, or modified to appear that an identifiable minor is engaging in sexually explicit conduct; or such visual depiction is advertised, promoted, presented, described, or distributed in such a manner that conveys the impression that the material is or contains a visual depiction of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct." This to me is sickening and for a person to be able to go online and click in the search box and google or search in what even search engine they may use and type child porn and can bare themselves to sit there and watch this is a very heartless person. The question remains whether the government may criminalize the production and possession of "virtual child" pornography if no child is used in the production of pornography and the images are completely fictional." • 21. My Virtual Child Raising My Virtual Child Have you ever wondered how your child would turn out based on the choices you make for them? I had the opportunity to raise my child on the computer. It showed me how even the simplest decision I made could affect them in a big way. In this paper I will tell you about the background of my child, the parenting feedback I received as well as what parenting style I have, and what factors influence my parenting and what the outcomes were. Through the My Virtual Child program I got the chance to experience what it was like to have a family. After ten hours of labor through a natural birth, I gave birth to a healthy baby boy (Manis, 2008). My husband and I chose the name Oliver for our baby boy. We chose the name Oliver because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The textbook says that a major influence to parenting is the child's temperament and birth order (Bee & Boyd, 2012). One child factor example is that when Oliver was eight he like to play with his sister in the backyard only if he got to choose the game. Usually I would let him do this because Sloane was younger and just happy to hang out with her brother. Also Oliver would tend to throw fits at this age if things did not go his way. So I would usually let them choose the game but sometimes I would make him play Sloane's games to try to get him used to letting others take control. The textbook also says that a factor influencing parenting is the parents own upbringing (Bee & Boyd, 2012). One parent factor example is from my own past. When I was younger I hit my head playing soccer and got a concussion. Throughout my concussion I went to neurologist and physical therapy. So when Oliver was ten he fell off his skateboard and hit his head and got a brain injury, I did the same thing as my parents did for me and took him to neurologist and physical therapy. And when he recovered from it I put him back in school only taking him out for physical therapy and still took him to the neurologist annually for check ups. Also the decisions I made to parent had outcomes later on my sons life. When Oliver was three he wasn't very energetic and like to do quiet activities inside, so I got him involved in outdoor activities. My husband and I would play catch outside with him and eventually when he was six years old we signed him up for baseball. Oliver started to love baseball and began training for the travel team and would later make the high school baseball team. Another example where my decisions affected the outcome of my son later in life was when Oliver was eight he became really into drawling, designing things, and building models so I helped him ... Raising My Virtual Child : Raising A Child Raising My Virtual Child – Smarika Amrit Raj Subedi PSYC 2314 North Lake College Raising My Virtual Child – Smarika Raising a Virtual Child had been a great experience for me. This assignment made me better understand why adolescents are the way they are. I had my own expectation before the onset of this project, how my virtual child was going to be at age of 18? I was expecting that my child would be a successful and obedient one. She would be nice and polite, follow rules and will be good in education. For me, while raising a child, bonding between child and parents is an important factor to consider. It makes child feel secure and let know that his/her parents are there to look after their needs. Communication between parent and child is important too. It will provide a great scenario for learning and aid in cognitive development. Discussing problem with parents and finding a solution is the best way to go during the childhood. I think parenting is not that much hard as it seems but is absolutely a sensitive and responsible task to raise a child. I had enjoyed raising my virtual child and hope my feedback is going to be a good one too. Prenatal and Postnatal Period Baby Smarika was born approximately after 8 hours of labor. • 29. My Virtual Child: Piaget And Vygotsky My Virtual Child In class we recently went more in–depth into cognitive development. With this expansion, we learned about well known theorist, Piaget and Vygotsky. To demonstrate their theories, My Virtual Life represented how cognitive growth and language growth could be shown in real life situations. With this intention, Scarlett futhers her understanding of how her environment is applicable to her and continues to excel in language development. Piaget's theory, is separated cognitive growth into sixth stages. Depending on what stage a child is in, is further categorized as either preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational. • 33. The Social / Emotional Side Of Development Introduction I think that Erikson's theory explains Aubree's anxiety. By failure in successfully completing one stage, it can result in a reduced ability to complete further stages and therefore a more unhealthy personality and sense of self, (Developing anxiety). I will be focussing on Aubree's development process throughout her life. I have noticed her characteristics relate more to the social/ emotional side of development. Aubree clearly showed that she had anxiety/ attachment issues throughout the ages of 0–12, which relates to temperament. What made Aubree get this anxiety? There are many theories I can relate to Aubree's anxiety. Different theories can relate to different age groups and development stages. A theory is an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If there are challenges during one stage it is likely this may cause problems in another stage during the developmental process through the next stages. I think this may have affected Aubree's development process and is the reasoning behind her anxiety and attachment behaviour. What are some of the characteristics that Aubree has to prove Erikson's theory regarding emotional/social development? Infant/ toddler Virtual child I have collected a lot of examples and information from my virtual child during her infant and toddler years, where it shows her lacking in social and emotional development. According to my virtual child observations, at 9 months Aubree had an obvious attachment to me and prefers me over other people, but this is pretty common in infants. According to Erikson, for 0–2 years "mother" is the significant relationship during these years. This stage is Basic Trust VS Mistrust which is oral, sensory. Trust as defined by Erikson is "an essential truthfulness of others as well as a fundamental sense of one 's own trustworthiness." The infant depends on the parents, especially the mother, for nourishment and comfort. My records also show that "Aubree was always cautious and shy in most new situations or with new people. With me present, she will eventually explore, but rarely warms up completely to the strange situation or person". According to my virtual child it says that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This gave me an opportunity to visualize "the whole child" at various points in development. I raised a virtual child from birth to 18 years of age. Each virtual child has a unique set of characteristics at birth, some of which were influenced by how I answered the assessment I completed when I first logged onto My Virtual Child. Berk mentions in his book that parent's who resolve conflicts with reason, instead of physical punishment, have children that are more likely to be socially mature and well developed intellectually (Berk 2010). Instead, we would put Wolfgang in a time–out, induction, and used punishment by removal (Berk 2010). I made sure that my partner was included when making parental decisions because I did not want Wolfgang to start favoring one parent over the other. When my partner and I decided to get back together, he started doing better in school (except math), but he still got into fights at school, so my partner and I decided to talk to him about social skills and taught him techniques he could use when he started to get upset or frustrated. I'm very happy that Wolfgang has a diverse view on gender roles (Berk 2010). I was nervous at first because he did not seem to have any interest in Brianna. I feel as if my partner and I splitting, for the short time we did, caused this effect on Wolfgang. When he was about 3, my partner and I had Brianna. Wolfgang was a bit distant at the beginning, but he includes his sister while playing with other kids and he tolerates girls better than other boys do. He enjoys playing the role as the big brother and taking care of his sister. If he was not playing with her, he was playing make–believe by himself. I knew this was a good sign. • 41. The Online Simulation My Virtual Child In the online simulation My Virtual Child, I was responsible in making crucial decisions that impacted how my child developed. Each decision would either negatively or positively impact my child's future. The decisions ranged from how I, as the parent would react towards my child when they were fussy and crying, to making a decision regarding education. These decisions no matter how slightly small or big played a huge role in my child's future. My parenting style is shown through the many different decisions I made throughout my child's development. When making certain decisions I asked myself how I was going to assess the situation. How was I going to make the decision where it would benefit me and my child in the future? I would describe my parenting style as very disciplined, however, laid back during certain situations. When there was a problem I made the decision to address the problem with my child. For example, at 18 months, Leo started saying the word "no" and started to refuse help. I made the decision to let him choose between two choices which are both options that I want him to do. This allowed my child to become an active part in making choices during a certain situation. At three years old, Leo was being pushed around in school and was lacking leadership abilities. I made the decision to arrange play dates with other kids and praised Leo for sharing and communicating appropriately with the other children. Mere decisions made during infancy can affect a child's long term physically, cognitively, and emotionally. To make important developmental decisions simply be classified as a challenge, it is one of the hardest things parents experience. Making decisions for one's self, opposed to making decisions to one's child is so challenging that most people will not understand until they have kids themselves. • 53. Virtual Child Observation Being responsible for the life of another human being can be a little frightening or overwhelming. Whether the child is real life or, in this case, a virtual child, every single decision made is crucial for the development of the child's life. Throughout the journey of raising Everett, my virtual son, I was exposed to a whole new world. I learned so much about the process of teaching and nurturing a child. It not only is about the love and compassion you give a child, but the discipline and leadership a parent demonstrates as well. Though these factors contribute greatly to the development of your child, the way your child behaves and acts is ultimately their decision. Over the virtual life of Everett, I was faced with many troubling and difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Around the age of eight months, Everett began showing some fearfulness around unfamiliar people and clung to whoever was holding him at the time. The text defines this as stranger anxiety – "the caution and wariness displayed by infants when encountering an unfamiliar person" (Feldman 2013). Between the ages of 6 and 9 months, infants are trying to make sense of the world around them. When face–to–face with a stranger, they experience fear. My decision was to hold Everett and allow him to warm up slowly to the stranger. I knew that this was normal at his age and did not want to cause him to be any more frightened. Other than him being fussy at times, Everett was a fairly "easy" baby. Despite his cautiousness of new people, he adapted rather quickly to friendly people. He always made eye contact and vocalized. As Everett reached the age of 18 months, I began taking him to participate in new activities and meet new children and adults. I figured the variety of experiences would be stimulating and, in the long run, help him warm up to people easier. At this point, Everett was becoming more and more independent and talkative. He only had about ten words he said on a regular basis, so I decided that it was a good time to begin working with him with expanding his vocabulary and communication skills. Everett loved to point at objects and have me tell them what they were. It was like a little game! At the age of two years old, I began to notice that Everett was developing self–awareness. One article states, "Awareness involves a unification of several stimuli into an awareness of one unitary content" (Kriegel, 2009). In this case, that would be the self. He displayed characteristics of having self–awareness by smiling in pictures, looking guilty when he made an "uh–oh!", and even showing embarrassment while potty–training. This is the stage where the child began to find purpose. Erikson described that by the age of 3, children began to deal with conflict and have a desire to gain independence. Josiah definitely went through this stage. At the age of 3, Josiah began to explore indoor and outdoor activities and let his interests be the guide to what he would pursue. By kindergarten, Josiah wanted to pick out his own clothes and wanted to choose what he would eat for lunch. Josiah and I were able to balance his decisions and my rules by compromising. I was able to pick out two outfits of my choice but allow Josiah to pick from those two choices so that he had some sort of independency. I also noticed that Josiah begin to interact with his peers better. He was able to help make up games and discuss new ideas to his teachers. It has thrown different real–life situations at me in which I had to respond in a specific way, showing me the difficulty of making a decision on certain situations. I noticed that every decision that I make will affect my child in their future reactions, ways that they interact with friends and how they act. Reese has put a significant amount of time into building friendships and relationships with his peers. I reinforced the importance of friendships and I believe that friendships insure a good emotional well–being. Friendships are people to fall back on in times of need. If your teens have good support systems, they will do better academically. WETA (2017) states that Talking and listening play major roles in children's school success. I believe that Reece adjusted to typical adolescent issues very well. He only had one incident of getting in trouble, in which Reese and his friends got caught sneaking into the school to play basketball. I stressed the importance of following rules and how rules are put in place for a reason. Reese never got into drugs or alcohol but I did have a problem in which pornography was downloaded onto our home computer. I believe that this is normal for developing teenage boys to become curious and explore. I made sure he knew that I believed that porn was demeaning to women and that it gives people and unrealistic view of male–female relationships. At the end of the program, my son ... This makes children not share well with other kids (Wartik, N. (2015, August 05). From experience working in a daycare I witnessed and realized which kids were only children, which kids were adopted and which children were neglected very quickly. Parents need to find a balance between loving and playing with their children and not neglecting them. This balance would be hard to do every day but is possible. Telling your child no is hard but must be done. Telling your kid no every time they ask something is also not right. Many parents are scared to let their child, be a child. • 81. The Virtual Teen Program : A Very Difficult Task Parenting is a very difficult task and there is no one best way to parent every child. The virtual teen program simulates a shortened childhood and adolescents for a virtual child that the participant has to parent. I raised my virtual child until he turned 18 years old and began college. He had a few issues growing up, including a learning disability in reading and a divorce between his parents. As well as negatives, there were some positives: he was gifted in both math and science and received above average scores on most standardized tests. While I think I did well raising my child, I definitely would change a few things. Firstly, as a baby, I would have socialized him better and more often, I would have read to and with my virtual child more as that may have lessened the learning disability, and I also would have been less strict with my child as I was consistently in the top 15% of parents in regards to discipline. The concepts of parenting styles, school achievement and divorce continually were brought up during the virtual teen exercise. When going through the virtual teen program, I consciously tried to employ an authoritative parenting style, which is high in demandingness and responsiveness (Fritz n.d. a). I think I accomplished this, but I also had a slight leaning towards authoritarian style as I was typically seen as being stricter than other parents, and an average level of affection. "My Virtual Child" was a web based assignment on raising a child based on real life scenarios and answering questions that you are expected to answer as a real parent would. My assignment this time starts with Link being 9 years old. At 9 Link began to consume allot of food. Eating and snacking up to 9 times a day, I knew this was normal for his age. Most boys at 12 grow about 4 inches in height and put on 26 pounds every year once they begin puberty (Rogol, Roemmich, & Clark, 2002). We did our best to guide him into a healthy lifestyle, eating healthy and nutritious foods along with encouraging him to continue with the swim and water polo teams. Because he stuck with his sports as he got older, he received a full ride scholarship right out of high school. He slowly began to show interest in the girls in his class. He began to hang out with them during recess and lunch, sometimes even hanging out over the weekends. He however begin telling harsh and disrespectful jokes that involved the physical changes of the many girls at his school when he was around his male friends. He made it clear to Link that sexual interest was a real thing and not to be ashamed of, but is not permitted until he is married to the girl as long as he still lives at home. Students also learn about the situations that occur in the three main life stages, and see how their decisions determine how their child will turn out. The focus of this assignment will be on my virtual child, Jason, the problems that occurred in the life stages, and the options I chose when raising Jason. In the Infant/Toddler stage, an incident occurred while we were visiting a relative who owned a pool. I tried to keep an eye on Jason, but got distracted. I heard a splash, and ran outside to the pool to find Jason sinking below the surface. I grabbed him and pulled him to safety. I checked to see if he had swallowed any water, dried him off with a towel, and calmed him down. After this incident, I was presented with three options. The first option was to speak firmly to him about staying away from pools so it would make a big impression. The second option was to resolve to having Jason wear a safety vest whenever he is around pools. The third option was to decide to enroll Jason in toddler swimming lessons, which emphasize safety, holding your breath, swimming to the edge of the pool, and holding on. I chose the third option. I felt it necessary to sign him up for toddler swimming lessons. Studies show that registering your child in a swimming class to learn how to swim helps reduces the risk of childhood ... The sensorimotor stage is a period that the cognitive development rapidly grows and during this time frame the infant develops "an understanding of the world through trial and error using their senses and actions (McLeod, 2015)." An example of an experience that Bilal went through during the sensorimotor stage would be when Bilal was eight months old, I tried the object permanence test I did this by hiding an object from Bilal and have him look for it, when the location of the object changed Bilal would look for it where he previously saw it (My Virtual Child, 2014). • 105. My Virtual Child: A Case Study Eating: When Amelia was born she was 4 weeks premature and underweight (4 and a half pounds). Amelia would get hungry more often than what the prenatal pamphlets said, "every one to two hours" (My Virtual Child, 2014). Within her 3 week, she was lethargic, and wasn't gaining much weight because she wouldn't eat. She would cry after every meal and had problems with diarrhea and ingestion. So we started giving her solid foods by the time she was 3 months, as well as breastfeeding. Even after we switched, she was still having problems with indigestion and diarrhea by the time she was 8 months. She was also catching colds a lot. Based on the website, "Babies who are born closer to 32 weeks (just over 7 months) may not be able to eat, breathe, or stay warm on their own. But after these babies have had time to grow, most of them can leave the hospital" (eMedicineHealth, 2017). Since Amelia is a preterm baby, it might be the reason why it she's ... As it states in the text, rapid–eye–movement, (REM) sleep is, "brain–wave activity is remarkably similar to that of the waking state. The eyes dart beneath the lids; heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing are uneven; and slight body movements occur." (Berk & Meyers, pg.144). This is considered normal to the typical development patterns in newborns because the book also mentions that about 50% of newborns are in REM sleep during their sleep time (Berk & Meyers, pg.144). College Writing Importance If you were to ask a group of people if writing in college is important, almost everyone would agree that it is, but it's the next question that stumps everyone and makes them have to think a little deeper. That question is, why? Why is writing in college so important? College writing is a needed necessity in college, and for your future career because most careers require writing or documenting to be done. Not only is it important for everyone's career but it is especially important for my future in the psychology department. As I explored this question myself, I found it helpful to ask my peers what their thoughts are. A virtual child is a child that you have online that you get to see develop and grow up. Along with seeing your child grow up, you have to write essays reflecting on what is happening. Having a background in college writing will help others including myself get these virtual writing tasks done efficiently and strongly. To help explore more about the idea of why college writing would be useful in my desired field of study, I got in touch with my psychology professor. I asked my professor, what writing is needed in psychology. Her response was that it depends on what area of psychology you work in, for example in applied or clinical settings some tasks that deal with writing are treatment plans, clinical or progress notes, psychological reports, and communication to other coworkers. In jobs such as a college professor, this includes communication with students, colleagues, writing assignments, exams, reports to administration, and research articles. When she was asked why writing skills are a good thing to know in psychology she explained that, psychology in her opinion is only beneficial if ideas and information can be communicated correctly. Weather it is with students or with or other professionals, writing is an important thing to know to help get ideas out there in the psychology field. To find love and belonging in a virtual setting is to find happiness in a fictional setting. A lot of people may have used this opportunity to try and show what a caring and wonderful parent they can be, however, I did not choose this route. Throughout my daughter's life, I made it my goal to stunt or inhibit her developmental growth in any way that I could. I believed it was just as challenging, and took just as much knowledge of the subject to be the worst parent as it was to be the best parent. 1. Daenerys showed excellent physical promise from the day she was born. She was walking by 9 months (early for most toddlers), and climbing down stairs by 18 months. She showed a desire to explore the world around her. Trying to react poorly, I decided to hold her more, sometimes against her will, which would diminish her exploration intuitions. I began to potty train her at 18 months, and would scold her whenever she soiled her diapers. From her earliest 9–month report, Daenerys was advanced in her gross and fine motor skills. Up until Kindergarten, these reports were consistent, so at age 6, I decided to enroll her in a physical activity. Trying to thwart her athletic ability, I signed her up for dance and gymnastics, the least athletic option in my opinion. Over the years, Daenerys took a strong liking to dance. • 129. Personal Narrative : My Virtual Parenting Experience My Virtual Parenting Experience Life is always a surprise and things usually happen unexpectedly. Life is a mystery and it's funny how when we are in our childhood years we want to be teenagers and when we are teenagers we can't wait for that day that we turn 18 and actually become an "adult" and then a couple of years we go crazy waiting for our big 21. As a young child or a teenager we imagine our adult life to be like in the movies, where it is easy to find a job, money comes and go and everything works out perfect for the main character. During those years we are just being naïve and its funny and it hurts when we actually get pass 21 and we realize that life is nothing like in the movies and most of our life plans are still just plans and we haven't accomplish them at the time we wanted. When we are "adult" meaning over 21 and we start thinking about the future and what we want in our life one of the first things that comes into mind is that if we want a family with that special someone that might be with us or if we are alone we always think if we'll ever find that special someone. During the fall semester of 2015 in college I decided to take a parent–infant relationship course, and my main reason was my daughter Darianna. I felt like by taking this class I would learn to be a better mother because I will actually learn more of how a child thinking is different from adults. Various personalized questions were asked and given scenarios that would shape my child's physical development, cognitive development, and affect his personality. My Virtual Child has a unique set of characteristics at birth, some of which were influenced by how I answered and completed the assessment when I first logged into My Virtual Child. These characteristics gradually emerged and affected his behavior and development. When it was time, our precious baby boy was born and we decided to name him Noah. Noah as a newborn was fussy and often wanted to be held. Breastfeeding time seemed to be the perfect soothing method. I enjoyed breastfeeding because it builds up his immune system. At this point Noah recognized me as his primary care giver because I was the one always attending to his needs. According to Bowlby's theory of attachment "The infant knows that the caregiver is dependable, which creates a secure base for the child to then explore the world". As a result, Noah was more attached to me than he was to my husband. As time transcurred, he was able to bond to my husband by spending more quality time together. At 8 months, the physician performed a routine physical exam. He stated that Noah was advanced in his gross and fine motor skills. Noah enjoyed crawling, pulling him self up to stand and manipulating objects. According to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is a three year age difference between the two siblings. According to the program I had a partner and we were married. Unfortunately, when Gavin was four years old we continued to argue and decided to separate. Two years later, we finally decided that the relationship was over and to get a divorce. Gavin is also very sensitive with his surroundings, and lets his surroundings affect him greatly. This is a weakness and is shown through different situations on his report cards and through observation. When Gavin's younger sister was born he became very jealous and started to throw temper tantrums and show regressive behavior (Manis, 2008). When my partner and I separated and eventually divorced when Gavin was young he again started throwing temper tantrums and showed regressive behavior. Also to support this on his first grade report card his teacher wrote "Sometimes Gavin over–reacts to stressful situations and can become quite upset with himself or others and needs help calming down" (Manis, 2008). These are the main situations that led me to believe that he is a sensitive person, which can also be seen as a weakness. Influences on Development Factors play a big role in everyone's development; in Gavin's development the two biggest factors were genes and the divorce. Gavin's genes could have influenced his shy behavior. Being shy could have kept him from experiencing things that could have changed him in many ways. If Gavin had not been so shy then maybe his language comprehension would not have been continuously below average because he would have had more practice with the people around him other then his parents. When I first heard that I would be raising a virtual child, I did not fully understand how this would change my ideology on decision making and critical thinking and how my thoughts and ideas would impact the life of another human being. After I told my parents that I would be raising a child online, they had two reactions. Reaction number one consisted of them laughing because the thought of raising a child online seemed like a joke because I had absolutely no idea how to raise a child. Reaction number two came later and was more of an intrigued attitude than before. My parents watched me click buttons and run through thought processes on making decisions in how to raise my child from birth to 18 years in a matter of weeks. I had a few goals in mind for myself when I began raising Taylor, my Virtual Child. My first goal for myself was to keep an open mind. I had witness how myself and my siblings were raised and how my friends around me were raised, and I wanted to make sure that I made my decisions solely on how I felt Taylor should be raised. The goals that I had for Taylor were for her to grow up to be successful. I wanted her to have all of the things that she needed, for her to have discipline, and for her to express herself in ways that were beneficial for her both educationally and personally. I believe that I had a hidden agenda. I wanted to raise Taylor to be extremely smart and to excel at everything that she put her mind to. If I had the chance to refine my ...
