A Brief Note On Wwi And The War
WWI began on July 28th, 1914. This war was between the allies which included Britain, Russia, France, Italy and the United States and the Central
Powers which were Germany, Austria, Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria. In the beginning of the war when men were beginning to get drafted there
were too many job vacancies. Many companies were facing a significant loss of employees due to the fact that men held most of the jobs because
the women were at home performing their domestic duties. Many women had a love hate relationship with the war, they were upset because many
of their husbands were going to fight in the war, but many looked at it as an opportunity to be independent and get real jobs of their own. It was a
lot easier for a woman to get a job now, many filled in positions in munitions factories and made the necessary materials needed in the war, while
others took jobs as railway guards, police officers, postal works, etc. The working conditions that many women faced in the munitions factories were
horrendous, and they weren't provided with any protection gear and many fatalities occurred. "These women risked their lives working with
poisonous substances without adequate protective clothing or the required safety measures. Around 400 women died from overexposure to TNT
during WWI."1 During WWI the rate of women's employment increased 23.6%, but they were still facing inequality when it came to fair pay.
Employers didn't see women as strong workers so they were paid

The Department Of Defense ( Dod )
The Department of Defense (DOD) must decide how to rebalance the armed forces general force structure to meet future challenges and opportunities
in an austere fiscal environment. The general force structure and capabilities of Joint Force 2020 necessary to adjust the force based on current
strategic direction and fiscal constraints is a smaller, efficient, adaptable and integrated joint force. The 2014 Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR)
emphasizes US military forces will evolve and remain modern, capable, and ready while accepting some increased risk through force reductions.
Rebalancing will require innovative approaches and solutions to protect the homeland, build global security, project power, and win decisively with a
leaner force. The subsequent sections will propose how smaller and better–combined joint forces maintain lethality, mobility, and survivability. In spite
of some associated risks, force adjustment is an opportunity to form an aggregate joint force. Nevertheless, these contractions will not mirror equally
among the services. The result will be a lean joint force that maintains the ability to defeat conventional and asymmetric threats in all domains.
Discussed in this order, Air Force, Army, United States Marine Corps (USMC), andNavy general structure will revolve around the integration of skills
and capabilities. Next, discussion of the four categories of risk involved in the transition to Joint Force 2020 include operational risk, force management

Equality Of Women In The Military Essay
Ninety percent of all military occupations in the military include all genders, but the top ten percent of roles are excluded to women. Women have
already felt the misogyny with unequal pay and unfair treatment by men, now women have to face the discrimination for fighting for our country.
Women should be able to serve in the front lines because it makes themilitary stronger as a whole with more diversity, women in other countries fight
on the front lines and women have made significant contributions in the military so far. Women being included in the military make for a stronger and
better knit unit because of the vast diversity and opportunities that are now opened up. Widening the applicant pool calls for more talent and people with

In striving to be as physically fit as male colleagues, many women hurt themselves and thus limiting their military roles all together. "But it's flatly
rooted in the fact women biologically are not able to perform physically to the same level as men." (Davis) "The standards of physical fitness have
been best suit to men, and women attempting to reach them [men's physical fitness] will over–stretch themselves." (IDEA) These two sources both
convey that women do not have the physical standards as men and in trying to reach the biologically impossible standards, women often out do
themselves. Although women might not be as strong physically, they do offer strong mental capabilities and are more effective in some circumstances.
One source claims: "If women can meet the standards as men. They should be allowed to serve in the infantry." (Michaels, Brook and Welch) Meaning
that if women can withstand the biological factors, then they should be capable of serving in the front–lines. Another source states: "There is no issue
with a women's intellectual quality or value as a human being." (Davis) This author is claiming that there is no reason why women should not be able
to serve in the military and that women, as a whole unit, should be valued as human beings that have the opportunity to serve in combat roles if they

The And Of The United States
Food from the farms and ranches that were outlying Virginia Beach and Norfolk was flowing in, and markets were opening with fresh produce, live
stock was becoming available, which meant more fresh meat. Quite a bit of the produce was making its way up to Washington D.C. by train. It was
touch and go for a bit for Captain O'Hara and Major Luxon. There were some farms and ranches east of Hawkesbury Farm and some of the ranching
and farming communities had joined forces and created their own states, with their own local governments and declared they were no longer part of
the United States. Captain O'Hara was notified that there was flash traffic waiting for him at the base communications center. It was only a shortwave
radio, but it was better than nothing. Captain O'Hara was in the middle of an inspection when his Executive Officer told him in no uncertain terms he
needed to get his ass over to the communications center and read the message. He told his commander that, of course he couldn't read it, because it
was classified for his eyes only, but a little bird told him it was no ordinary message and he needed to get his ass over there. The communications
center was fifteen minutes from his current position. He was inspecting one of the new frigates that had been retrofitted with new diesel engines and
the navigation systems replaced with something far more archaic than the high tech and sophisticated system it used to have. Captain O'Hara wondered

The Pros And Cons Of Military Budget Cuts
In the past America has been a dominant superpower in the field of military strength, but for the last few decades, our military has encountered
abounding liquidations and sequestrations, which lead to huge budget cuts. Nevertheless, America has faced many politicians planning to cut down on
our military by virtue of it is simply cost effective. The Clinton Foundation has been cutting our military for countless years. Also, under the Obama
Administration has been enacting laws comparable to the Budget Control Act or (BCA) which has been siphoning our military for the past 8 years. For
countless years, defense officials remain silent due to the Obama Administration, vaguely America could keep its budget under control. Consequently,

The Air Force prides itself with quality over capacity. "Aircraft average 27 years old"(Cooper) the aircraft are older and the Air Force has less of
them than ever before. This is from sequestrations and liquidations under Acts like the BCA for many years. Consequently, the Air Force did not
grow during the military build after 9/11. Instead they chose to upgrade their Airplanes and buildings, different from other branches who chose to
expand their capacity. The Air Force has been continually cut to the point of "not enough money to fly sorties and pilots being unable to maintain
cockpit skills"(Cooper). Nevertheless, pilots are unable to maintain their skills flying due to lack of funding and unable to conduct their missions.
Notwithstanding, the Air Force is not able to even fly because they do not have the Aircraft nor the money to fly their Aircraft. This has caused "the
most current and qualified Air Force fighter pilots are flying at a rate so low that we could have considered them unfit for combat in the 80's and
90's"(Cooper). Accordingly, when pilots are not getting enough time up in the air it causes more errors and makes pilots more likely to commit fatal
mistakes. This also gives the enemy an advantage in the air when engaged in combat because the more practice pilots have at flying the better the pilot.
Ordinarily, this has caused "Capitol Hill, several top U.S. military

Tuition Assistance in the Military: Is it Worth it? College nowadays is expensive. Too expensive for any student to be able to pay without applying for
countless scholarships, hoping they can win just enough to push themselves through, or taking out incredibly large loans and going into debt to further
their education. However, there is a more reliable, more financially stable option. Students struggling with paying for college should join the military.
Although the military is a potentially dangerous and life–changing option, it is one of the better ways to get yourself through college, and set yourself
up for future job opportunities. As well as coverage of most college expenses, the military provides a multitude of other benefits, including
experience that is easily utilized in the civilian world. Although there is danger associated with joining the military, the benefits far outweigh the
costs. Especially with the many benefits and privileges that come along with it. The main reason many people would join the military for is the
coverage of college expenses. According to "College Costs: FAQ," the average cost of college tuition over 4 years can range anywhere from $9.4k
to $32.4k. Most college students, if working, work a minimum wage job due to lack of education for a higher paying job. In Oregon, the minimum
wage is approximately $9.75 per hour. A student in Oregon would have to work a minimum of 3,857 hours over four years, without spending any of

China 's Recent Assertions Of Military Power During The...
China's recent assertions of military power in the South China Sea is a serious threat to U.S. National Security, and will remain so if China is not
confronted or restricted. In recent years, China has increased military spending, weapons, and is now building artificial islands on highly disputed
territory in the South China Sea to expand territorial claims. Since the world is anarchic, conflict is always a possibility between States that the U.S.
must be aware of and prepared for. In regard to U.S.–China relations, the United States goal should be to protect the freedom of navigation, prevent any
further expansion China makes on disputed territory in the South China Sea, and to hold China under high surveillance observation. To accomplish the
previously stated goals, the U.S. should respond to China's recent assertions of naval and air power in the South China Sea through the military
initiatives of surveillance and power projection by deploying more ships to the South China Sea to protect Asian allies and any trade traveling through
the international water. Before I lay out the benefits of the previously stated military initiatives the U.S. must utilize against China, I will first address
what actions China has taken in the South China Sea that threatens the United States. On 20 January, 2014, it was reported by TIME that China's
military spending has tripled over a decade and that they are building a new aircraft carrier (Thompson). Currently, the only foreign navy

The Foreign Policy Strengths For The Privatized Combat Role
Analysis
Strengths
The foreign policy strengths for the privatized combat role includes policy flexibility, force agility, and reduced political barriers. Policy flexibility
is defined as the variety of options available and the scope in which they can be applied. The resulting collection of choices which may be mapped
and compared to other choices can be referred to as the option space. In the case of the military, some of the policy options available can include
mission types and the variety of roles from non–combat to combat. Force agility is defined as an armed force's scalability, physical mobility, and
adaptability. Force agility is mostly understood as a tactical level capability but the potential to provide agile capabilities can ... Show more content on

Within Canada, the military attempts to cover a wide range of capabilities and maximize their utility. Instead, Canada could contract specialized
companies as the need arises. For example, should Canada decided to launch a peacekeeping mission the government could contract a private
policing corporation who specializes in addressing crime. Furthermore, in theory a free market economy would force competition between security
companies which would encourage the most efficient and effective service to provide the services required by Canada. Force agility is improved
with private companies in mobility, scalability, and adaptability. Mobility is a matter of how forces can be transported and equipment is deployed.
For private military companies, the ability to contract logistical services to private airlines or shipping companies can far exceed the capabilities of
the Canadian military without the cost of maintenance or the challenges of procurement policies. The ability to scale up and demobilize forces
quickly is important from a policy perspective and was demonstrated by private military companies in the Iraq conflict. Companies are able to scale
up forces more quickly than a military force because a traditional military has to train and plan for surges before hand. Military companies, assuming
they are not at maximum manpower already, can add or remove troops from a theatre of operations with

Essay Military Bearing
In the United States NAVY, military bearing is the root in which every service member practices in order to carry out good discipline and ethics
throughout ones military careers. The Eleven General Orders of a Sentry, The Articles of the UCMJ, as well as our own Sailors Creed illustrates
how a military service member should conduct himself or herself on a daily basis, on and off duty. Dependability is a major aspect of military
bearing. Without dependability, one can neither perform properly in the workspace nor be depended upon by their coworkers, or chain of command to
carry out their military duties adequately. A military member is required to be punctual, and reliable. Lack of this in a service member not only hinders

Respecting senior officers is imperative in order to maintain good military order up and down the chain of command. Punctuality is a key aspect of
ones NAVY career. Tardiness can affect the mission of the command. In such an event as General Quarte! rs, one can not afford to be late in carrying
out their assigned tasks, for the repercussions can be life threatening to ones fellow shipmates, as well as to the integrity of the ship. Being late to
watch can affect the quality of work being done in the work environment. Quarters is a vital necessity within our NAVY where ones chain of command
can brief all hands on new information concerning either the workspaces or ones specific job. Watch standing is every sailor's duty. Without a proper
and thorough turnover it hinders the effectiveness of the watch station. Missing information during turnover can result in wasted man–hours,
equipment damage, or can compromise the security of the command in which one works. Physical readiness standards are another element of
military bearing. Physical readiness standards or better known as PRT's are held every six months for NAVY personnel. The PRT is a test in which
each member of the NAVY must perform and pass within certain standards in order to maintain peek performance in his or her military careers. Such
aspects of the PRT are based upon sit up, sit and reach, push ups, as well as

The Reign Of Peter The Great
The reign of Peter the Great has been a source of considerable historical debate for many contemporary and traditional historians. Especially, the
transformation he made to Russian culture, politics and economic, which arguably changed the foundations of society. Thus, the interval of some three
hundred years has allowed us to access Peter the Great 's reforms more accurately but we must consider that Russia during the late 17th century existed
in different ethical and social circumstances to our own contemporary society as to make it almost a foreign civilisation. Judgements about Peter the
Great using today 's political and moral perspectives may have to be tempered unless we are accused of historical and cultural relativism. Therefore, we
must be careful in analysing the impact that his many reforms caused and the lasting nature that they had on the very foundations of Russian society.
Through his reign Peter revolutionised his country, 'reorganizing and strengthening the state and army, conquering new territories and building newnavy
, a seaport, and a new capital in St. Petersburg '1. The most significant change, Bushkovitch argues, was his campaign of Europeanisating Russia 's
culture which saw the introduction of all forms of Western advancements emerge into the society and by 1725, Russia had achieved the aim of entering
on the European stage. The ultimate objective was to at least equal if not surpass other European states while joining them in their great power

Persuasive Essay On Changing The Military
In the new government we are making, we should keep our current military. The purpose of a military is to protect a nation's citizens and territories
from threats. If we do not have an army, our new country will be left helpless if attacked. So, obviously we should keep it. Now the question is.
Should we change it or not. I believe that we should not change it. The military as is is powerful and helpful and important. The military has not failed
to keep us safe.
The local government provides public safety, fire protection, health, waste protection, housing, education, and public transportation.
Everyone is allowed the chance of being in the army. But people who are at a disadvantage such as being having terrible vision.

Billy Mitchell : An American Hero
The name Billy Mitchell brings many images to mind. To most, he is an American hero and considered to be one of the most influential figures
regarding the creation of the modern Air Force. He was a successful aviator in his own right. What many do not know is that his ideas for the future of
air power for the United States military were considered insane. Mitchell was a staunch proponent for an investment in air power as he deemed it
was the future of warfare, a vision he would eventually be praised for. During his time, however, his views were considered preposterous as the focus
was on battle ships and other naval vessels deemed necessary for war. He was seen as egotistical as he dismantled the opinions of anyone who opposed
him. His statements and arguments against his superior officers eventually led to his court martial and resignation from the military. Mitchell was
recognized posthumously for his contributions to aerial warfare. William "Billy" Mitchell was born in Nice, France in 1879 to a U.S. Senator. He
grew up in Wisconsin and enlisted in the Signal Corp in the U.S. Army at the age of 18. Due to his father 's influence in the government he quickly
earned a commission as an officer. He served in Cuba, the Philippines, and Alaska until his eventual appointment to the general staff. At the time, he

This is a memo is in response the recent events at the San Onofre nuclear facility and the military's capabilities in the region and potential responses to
the problem. In the tri state area California, Nevada, Arizona. We have 29 military bases with several others in the surrounding states (Colorado, New

However we have reason to believe that this could affect southern Nevada and central California as well. It is for tis reason that our first and foremost
priority should be evacuation and containment of contamination. For this task all four military branches and the coast guard are equipped and willing

This evacuation of military personal would also allow for military bases to be used as evacuation centers for a more smooth, coordinated and

process. While we (the military) have 29 bases in the region several of our largest bases are in close proximity to the blast and could be/ are in

Cultural And Gender Bias Has Become An Indelible Part Of...
For the most part, bias has become an indelible part of our society's fabric. Cultural and gender are amongst the most common biases we may
encounter on a daily basis. The latter derives from the belief that one race or gender is superior to the other or that one gender is more likely to
succeed over the other when given a specific activity. Although cultural and gender bias are amongst the most likely to occurred on a daily basis, as
an educator, we most be aware of other more subtle types of biases such as those affecting the children of military service members.
While researching for this assignment, I learned that being the child of a military service member could be extremely challenging for a child to
deal with. Not only do they have to deal with constant changes of schools and friends whenever their parents are reassign to other locations in
addition to the high levels of stress caused when their parents are deployed to combat. Being deployed is a fact of life for military members. This

The Pros And Cons Of Women Serving During Combat Roles
The Pros and Cons of Women Serving in Combat Roles
A number of arguments have been raised in defense of a military policy that bans women from
serving in combat roles. Pros argues that women should be allowed to serve in combat roles in
the Armed Forces. Cons argues that women should not serve in combat roles because they
would not be as effective in combat as their counterparts.
1.Cons of women serving in combat roles in the armed forces.
A.Physical Ability – Some jobs in the military are created for men and women and some are created just for men because women are not physically
suited to work in those job fields. This is also the case with the standards of physical fitness. The physical fitness requirement program is catered more
towards men than women. Often time women injure themselves trying to meet these standards and keep up with the men.
B.Military Readiness – Some women become pregnant around the time they have to deploy, and this can cause certain billets to go unmanned and
some job billets to be under staff during deployment. It also reduces the number of women required for deployments.
C.Physical Abuse during on Deployment – The military constantly trains men and women about sexual harassment, and sexual assaulted within the
military. This is a big problem when men and women are on long deployments together. While on deployment the living conditions, the length of the
deployment, and the overall stress of being away from family are

The War Of Camp Lewis
Prepare for war! That is what you hear and your heart stops while your jaw opens and you gasp for air that is not there. While the history and
establishment of Camp Lewis is not as important as preparing for war, it is important to know the past in order to help posture and mold the future
of tomorrow. The idea for Camp Lewis was fought for by the civilian populace of Pierce County in Washington State. Late in1916, as war continued
to escalate in Europe, a private group of concerned citizens gathered at American Lake to organize a training program designed for civilian personnel.
The program was designed to encourage readiness among the community in preparation for the possibility of going to war in Europe. One of the
attending civilians was a cadet named Stephen Appleby. Mr. Appleby (a former Captain in the Minnesota National Guard) was vice
–president of the
Northwest Business Men's Preparedness League and a bank cashier for Tacoma Washington. He was informed that the Army was sending out a survey
team to the Northwest in search of establishing an Army Post. Mr. Appleby contacted the commander of the survey team and asked him to make a site

Explain the Economic Logic Underpinning Mahan's Theory of Sea Power
Captain Alfred Thayer Mahan published The Influence of Sea Power upon History, 1660–1783 in 1890, in which he attempted to analyze the role of
sea control throughout history. Mahan, a naval officer, used his sea experience to create a theory about naval history that is unlike any other history
work. Upon examination of Theodore Momsen's History of the Roman Empire, which included the history of the Second Punic War, Mahan emphasized
the significant role that sea communications played in Rome's victory. Additionally, he describes the relevance of different maritime campaigns in
various battles that took place during the French and American revolutions. Mahan evaluates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mahan devotes most of his introduction to the history of sea power. He starts by discussing how the manner in which a war is fought changes as
navies have evolved from galleys to steam ships as well as the advancement of weapons, but that the principles behind maritime war remain the same.
In effort to illustrate the importance of sea power throughout history, Mahan details the impact that sea power had on the second Punic War. The control
of the water by the Romans forced Hannibal to depart on the devastating venture through the Gaul. Instead of explaining the actual conflict at hand,
Mahan explores the strategy that would have been necessary to defeat Rome. The Carthaginians would have needed to invade the Roman Empire in
Italy either by sea or by transport through the Gaul. Rome had control over any strategic location available to the Carthaginians during the war and this
was all made possible by the sea. Analyzing this war specifically through the actions of the Roman Navy proves that the history of sea power is
crucial in understanding the history of the world. Mahan asserts his belief in the importance of learning from history by stating, "The battles of the
past succeeded or failed according as they were fought in conformity with the principles of war; and the seaman who carefully studies the causes of
success or failure will not only detect and gradually assimilate these principles, but will also inquire increased

was the cause of World War I. There is also a theory that the assassination of the Archduke was only a trigger and that the war itself was caused by
numerous other historical events and developments including imperialism, militarism, and alliances. Militarism was the leading factor in the outbreak
of war. Militarism is the philosophy that a country's significance is shown through its military might. Such a violent ideal promotes a unnecessarily
strong military force and an aggressive demeanor while negotiating national interests. Without it the World War Iwould not happen on ... Show more

To demilitarize meant to leave ones self open and vulnerable for other countries to take over. Had Germany disarmed peacefully, they would have
been taken apart and conquered by the rest of Europe. Therefore the arms race was also a defensive strategy in order to keep up with the rest of the
world. Even as far back as in 1870, 34 years before World War I took place, every German staff officer in Europe knew "the nation which loses the
mobilization race is likely to lose the war" (Stratachon 37). This kind of belief illustrates that war had been on peoples minds' for a long time even
before it took place. Once the gears of war were set in motion, there was no stopping them.
Britain at the time was the largest empire in the world, and also had the largest navy, that was immensely envied by The Kaiser William II of
Germany In 1898 the Kaiser passed the First Navy Law, which demanded a 30 percent increase in total naval fleet size and the replacement of
older warships. Germany's Secretary of State referred to this as a "political power" (Beresford et al 1611) to be used against the British. Britain's
naval strength was one of the reasons for its success in creating colonies as as far out as China. Build up of Germany's military might could have
been a declaration of war in itself, "At the time of the First Navy Law Britain had been isolated, but in less

Military Brats : Legacies Of Childhood Inside The Fortress
Is it too farfetched that children of military personnel have their own subculture? Military Brats are children of active military personal that move don't
have a set home they live in. They are actively moving from state to state and from country to country. Despite this sounding like this sound like
someone who just moves around a lot, there is a whole lot more to Military Brats. Military Brats are in fact, a subculture that have a real presence in our
society and have their own struggles they face as individuals.
The first and most important question that needs to be answered is, what is a Military Brat? Wertsch answers this question perfectly in the
introduction to her book "Military Brats: Legacies of Childhood Inside the fortress. "I was a military brat . . . I was guaranteed free medical care
and subsidized food and housing until the day I finished college and had to turn in the ID card that granted me these rights and privileges" (Wertsch,
Intro). Essentially a Military Brat is an individual either born or raised on military bases for a majority of their lives. Where does the name Military
Brat originate though? The phrase "Military Brat" is actually an acronym, Brat stands for, British Regiment Attached Traveler (Caban). All of this
essentially means that Military Brats aren't guaranteed a home, rather are more or less guaranteed the opposite. They live nomadic lifestyles, never
having enough time to become accustomed to their environment. A great example of this is

Persuasive Speech On Transgenders In The Military
Transgender Military Ban
Discrimination is still a major issue all over the world in today's society. For instance, In the United States, transgenders have now been banned to serve
in the military. These people deserve the potential and capability to defend their nation. Many close–minded people come to the conclusion that
transgenders are weak and it is affecting our military when in reality they are doing the complete opposite. They deserve to be treated equally and be
given the same rights because they are also a human and deserve the same respect. The overall best decision is to lift the ban and apologize for taking
away their rights or else there will never be equality in our society.
Just a year ago, transgenders were given the right to freely serve in the military, but now Donald Trump took away their ability to do so. On July 26,
Trump tweeted, " Our military must be forced on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and
disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you." (Trump) He has called these certain soldiers a burden because the costs are going
to medical purposes instead of strengthening the military. Although this may be true to an extent, it is not a very reasonable reason to take away their
right to serve. A study has shown that the treatments would cost, "... we expect only a 0.13–percent ($8.4 million out of $6.2 billion) increase in health
care spending... By contrast, total military

The Military Of The United States
The Military
In today 's military, we are experiencing more changes than ever before. The United States has separated forces, added forces and changed rules and
regulations to adapt with the times. As we grow and advance so does our military. That is part of the reason they are so great, but it has its downfalls
as well. The military is not only changing the way we operate, but who does the operating, honestly they have their hand in aspect of life and I will
name only a few. They have also made a huge impact on the economy, gender roles and the controversy between the roles, and they are taking control
in more ways than we think. September 29, 1789, is when the first official military was created. We already had the Continental Army that had fought
the British in the American Revolution, but this was not an official Army. So in September of 1789 Congress sat down its first session and established
the first official military and it was passed the last day of its first session. The United States Air–Force became a separate military service September
1947; this is when the Department of Defense was established (previously known as the National military Establishment.) The department of Defense
was encompassed the Army,Navy, and the new branch the Air–Force. The Air–Force Expeditionary Force (AEF) created in the late 1990s which
allowed active duty, reserve, and air National Guard to serve together; this allowed the forces to join together and complete missions, instead of

The Lack of Free Speech in the Military
As a member of the United States military, there are times that the very freedoms that are being defended are not extended to those sailors and
soldiers that are in charge of that task. One of those freedoms is freedom of speech. As a veteran of the United States Navy, I find the limitation of
speech for a member of the military to be contradictory at best. The very fact that members of the armed forces cannot speak freely about government
officials, as well as government issues that affect their lives, seems to be controversial because it limits one of the freedoms these sailors and
soldiers have vowed to protect. To oppose the right of free speech of any member of the military takes away from the importance of the job they do.
It has been argued that a member of the military should be mindful of whom they work for and the chain of command that orders come from, and that
any display of dissatisfaction can be seen as disobedience or even treason.
I support members of the military being able to voice their thoughts on issues that impact their lives, as well as the lives of their families. There are a
few reasons why I support this. Simply put, as Americans they have the right of freedom of speech. Given the responsibilities of these sailors and
soldiers in their day–to–day jobs, they should be entrusted to know what to say and what not to say. Most people take for granted the right to speak
one's mind, right or wrong, and have nearly no ramifications for doing so. When one

U.s. Military Bases Economic Benefits Essay
Despite the numerous amounts of struggles Okinawa has to face with the presence of U.S. military bases, there are some benefits for Okinawa. First of
all, the U.S. military bases bring economic benefits to Okinawa. After large portions of Okinawa 's land was taken by the U.S. military, the agricultural
industry in Okinawa, which was the main industry in Okinawa, suffered catastrophically. In response, the U.S.military increased the pay for the local
workers they hire and urged the Okinawans in the agricultural industries to come work for the U.S. military. Approximately 70,000 local workers were
hired by the U.S. military at most in the 1960s. In 2014, the U.S. military base employs about 8,600 people from Okinawa and is considered as the
second largest employer in Okinawa, which is right below the Okinawan Prefectural government. (The United States Marine Corps) The population of
Okinawa in 2014 was approximately 1,400,000, excluding the U.S. service men and their family members. (Okinawa Prefecture Planning
Department Statistics Division) Though the number of Okinawan workers hired to work in the military has decreased to less than one percent of the
population, there are several benefits for the workers. For example, the economic fluctuation does not have a large impact on their job because as
long as the military bases are present, the demand for workers will not disappear. Some of the work contents for Okinawans hired to work on base are

For my interview essay I chose to interview Jonathon Esparza an electronic technician serving in the Navy. Esparza is a radio tech more specifically
WSC–3 or as he likes to say he is the "brains of the ship". Although an electronic technician wasn't his first choice he still loves what he does.
Growing up he was surrounded by friends who wanted to go to college right after high school but for Jon his plan was different. He grew up around
veterans that would tell him about their stories at sea. For example a torpedoman first class who lived in his complex would always tell him stories
and he would sit and chat with him and also Sergeant Mcgee who was a helicopter mechanic. He would listen to their stories and he would be so
intrigued and fascinated that he wanted to join himself . Although he was only eight at the time he knew that serving for his country is what he wanted

Essay on Great Military Leader and The Military Budgeting
Mankind must put an end to war, before war puts an end to mankind, John F. Kennedy. The U.S. military budget is a great cause for concern both for
the federal deficit and the matter of safety. While there are many changes that need to be made to our federal budget one of the most evident issues is
the amount of money the United States spends on the military. The United States needs to cut its military spending to aid in reducing the deficit,
increase American safety, bring the global view of America back into a positive light, and help foreign relations with other governments.
The United States had to borrower over 514 billion dollars last year in order to cover our national budget, and of the 3.881 trillion dollar budget 640

Global military leaders have displayed that their military spending is often tit for tat which will only employ an increase of military spending instead
of engaging foreign policy. China has gathered that they in no way can compete with our naval forces so instead of creating a naval arms race they
have invested heavily into anti–ship ballistic missile programs (U.S. Naval Institute, 2009), which in turn the United States has stated in light of
Chinas increased defense towards our military they have proposed a $110 billion dollar program to modernize our fleet. So in hindsight, America
wanted a better naval force to protect its allies overseas and made 11 air craft carriers, China saw this as a threat so they made anti–ballistic missiles to
destroy them, so the U.S. military saw this as a threat and invested funds into an anti–ballistic missile defense for the ships, and the cycle continues. At
no point does anyone truly become safer, in fact, globally everyone is simply discovering more ways to become devastatingly more destructive and
violent and with it the spending and budgets importance is disregarded as the deficit looms.
Alternatively, there are historically recent examples of military spending cuts and why they would effectively increase American safety

Between 1870 and 1920, the European nations took the use of imperialism due to economic, political, and social forces to control the less–developed

Continuing the Greater Co–Prosperity Sphere Through Oil Independence
1.Addressing the Problem:
Due to the Japanese presence in China during the late 1930s and early 1940s, the United States embargoed oil exports to Japan as a punishment for
interfering with the open trade policy in China. This embargo was detrimental to the Japanese supply because Japan depended on the US for 80% of
its imported oil. The Japanese also had no significant natural sources of oil in its possession. Therefore, the oil problem became a crisis as military
demands quickly drained Japanese stockpiles. The Japanese needed to find oil to support its larger dream of establishing the Greater Co–Prosperity
Sphere (GCPS).
The reference point of the Japanese decision ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nonetheless, Japanese leadership overwhelmingly agreed that the first choice was incompatible with GCPS and was therefore not a choice to consider.
2.The Alternative Approach:
A more effective approach would have been to appease the Americans in the short–term, while additionally searching for and quickly mobilizing other
sources of oil in order to reduce dependence on the US. This two–step approach would have been more effective in pursuing the Japanese's GCPS
because the short–term setback would have allowed for the long–term survival of Japan's plan to become a regional great power. By taking the
admittedly high–risk route of attacking Pearl Harbor, the Japanese significantly constricted the GCPS's chances of survival. In order to obtain vital
amounts of oil for the continuation of Japanese military power, appeasing the Americans by letting go of China for the time being would have allowed
the GCPS to survive another day and to continue once the country had obtained its own independent source of oil.
a.Appeasing the Americans and Receiving Oil Diplomatically
The appeasement of the Americans would have been feasible with some flexibility and long–term thinking. Appeasement of the Americans would have
required the Japanese to "abandon all, or at least half, of China," according to Matsuoka Yosuke, an aggressive pro–expansionist advisor who was the
leading advocate for the

Even today, most American's are unaware about the problems that military families face. Right now the United States military has a record–breaking
number of active–duty parents deployed in various military conflicts all across the world. The long conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan has majorly
affected many families. New research is showing the affects the deployments are having on military families, especially how the children are being
affected. Many of the children are having problems with their education and also may have sociological problems. This is not a new problem, but only

Lt. Taijeron's story is one that is mirrored by many other service–members. Many deployed parents also feel guilt when they miss significant events
that occur in their children's lives. Many resources suggest that loved ones should send many pictures or videos of the children, so that the
service–member does not feel totally excluded in their children's life. Even though the Department Of Defense and many private organizations have
many resources and also have started many support programs to help military families, many families still struggle to cope with the separations during
long deployments.
One effect that some military children face is the inability to focus on their education while they are worried about their deployed or absent parent or
other family member. In Lyle Amaani's article, "Much– Traveled Military Children Enjoy Opportunities, Face Challenges", Navy Admiral Harry B.
Harris Jr states, "It's no surprise that studies have shown that children of military parents are often more vulnerable to fear and anxiety, and that those
stressors manifest themselves behaviorally and academically". Worrying about their parent on deployment can affect military children's grades and
cause them to not perform as well as their classmates in school. In a report

Part of the agreement for establishing the post was that Washington State would donate 140 square miles to the military. Mr. Appleby and his league

A Brief Note On Wwi And The War

  • 1. A Brief Note On Wwi And The War WWI began on July 28th, 1914. This war was between the allies which included Britain, Russia, France, Italy and the United States and the Central Powers which were Germany, Austria, Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria. In the beginning of the war when men were beginning to get drafted there were too many job vacancies. Many companies were facing a significant loss of employees due to the fact that men held most of the jobs because the women were at home performing their domestic duties. Many women had a love hate relationship with the war, they were upset because many of their husbands were going to fight in the war, but many looked at it as an opportunity to be independent and get real jobs of their own. It was a lot easier for a woman to get a job now, many filled in positions in munitions factories and made the necessary materials needed in the war, while others took jobs as railway guards, police officers, postal works, etc. The working conditions that many women faced in the munitions factories were horrendous, and they weren't provided with any protection gear and many fatalities occurred. "These women risked their lives working with poisonous substances without adequate protective clothing or the required safety measures. Around 400 women died from overexposure to TNT during WWI."1 During WWI the rate of women's employment increased 23.6%, but they were still facing inequality when it came to fair pay. Employers didn't see women as strong workers so they were paid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Department Of Defense ( Dod ) The Department of Defense (DOD) must decide how to rebalance the armed forces general force structure to meet future challenges and opportunities in an austere fiscal environment. The general force structure and capabilities of Joint Force 2020 necessary to adjust the force based on current strategic direction and fiscal constraints is a smaller, efficient, adaptable and integrated joint force. The 2014 Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) emphasizes US military forces will evolve and remain modern, capable, and ready while accepting some increased risk through force reductions. Rebalancing will require innovative approaches and solutions to protect the homeland, build global security, project power, and win decisively with a leaner force. The subsequent sections will propose how smaller and better–combined joint forces maintain lethality, mobility, and survivability. In spite of some associated risks, force adjustment is an opportunity to form an aggregate joint force. Nevertheless, these contractions will not mirror equally among the services. The result will be a lean joint force that maintains the ability to defeat conventional and asymmetric threats in all domains. Discussed in this order, Air Force, Army, United States Marine Corps (USMC), andNavy general structure will revolve around the integration of skills and capabilities. Next, discussion of the four categories of risk involved in the transition to Joint Force 2020 include operational risk, force management ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Equality Of Women In The Military Essay Ninety percent of all military occupations in the military include all genders, but the top ten percent of roles are excluded to women. Women have already felt the misogyny with unequal pay and unfair treatment by men, now women have to face the discrimination for fighting for our country. Women should be able to serve in the front lines because it makes themilitary stronger as a whole with more diversity, women in other countries fight on the front lines and women have made significant contributions in the military so far. Women being included in the military make for a stronger and better knit unit because of the vast diversity and opportunities that are now opened up. Widening the applicant pool calls for more talent and people with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In striving to be as physically fit as male colleagues, many women hurt themselves and thus limiting their military roles all together. "But it's flatly rooted in the fact women biologically are not able to perform physically to the same level as men." (Davis) "The standards of physical fitness have been best suit to men, and women attempting to reach them [men's physical fitness] will over–stretch themselves." (IDEA) These two sources both convey that women do not have the physical standards as men and in trying to reach the biologically impossible standards, women often out do themselves. Although women might not be as strong physically, they do offer strong mental capabilities and are more effective in some circumstances. One source claims: "If women can meet the standards as men. They should be allowed to serve in the infantry." (Michaels, Brook and Welch) Meaning that if women can withstand the biological factors, then they should be capable of serving in the front–lines. Another source states: "There is no issue with a women's intellectual quality or value as a human being." (Davis) This author is claiming that there is no reason why women should not be able to serve in the military and that women, as a whole unit, should be valued as human beings that have the opportunity to serve in combat roles if they ... • 4. The And Of The United States Food from the farms and ranches that were outlying Virginia Beach and Norfolk was flowing in, and markets were opening with fresh produce, live stock was becoming available, which meant more fresh meat. Quite a bit of the produce was making its way up to Washington D.C. by train. It was touch and go for a bit for Captain O'Hara and Major Luxon. There were some farms and ranches east of Hawkesbury Farm and some of the ranching and farming communities had joined forces and created their own states, with their own local governments and declared they were no longer part of the United States. Captain O'Hara was notified that there was flash traffic waiting for him at the base communications center. It was only a shortwave radio, but it was better than nothing. Captain O'Hara was in the middle of an inspection when his Executive Officer told him in no uncertain terms he needed to get his ass over to the communications center and read the message. He told his commander that, of course he couldn't read it, because it was classified for his eyes only, but a little bird told him it was no ordinary message and he needed to get his ass over there. The communications center was fifteen minutes from his current position. He was inspecting one of the new frigates that had been retrofitted with new diesel engines and the navigation systems replaced with something far more archaic than the high tech and sophisticated system it used to have. Captain O'Hara wondered what could be so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Pros And Cons Of Military Budget Cuts In the past America has been a dominant superpower in the field of military strength, but for the last few decades, our military has encountered abounding liquidations and sequestrations, which lead to huge budget cuts. Nevertheless, America has faced many politicians planning to cut down on our military by virtue of it is simply cost effective. The Clinton Foundation has been cutting our military for countless years. Also, under the Obama Administration has been enacting laws comparable to the Budget Control Act or (BCA) which has been siphoning our military for the past 8 years. For countless years, defense officials remain silent due to the Obama Administration, vaguely America could keep its budget under control. Consequently, all four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Air Force prides itself with quality over capacity. "Aircraft average 27 years old"(Cooper) the aircraft are older and the Air Force has less of them than ever before. This is from sequestrations and liquidations under Acts like the BCA for many years. Consequently, the Air Force did not grow during the military build after 9/11. Instead they chose to upgrade their Airplanes and buildings, different from other branches who chose to expand their capacity. The Air Force has been continually cut to the point of "not enough money to fly sorties and pilots being unable to maintain cockpit skills"(Cooper). Nevertheless, pilots are unable to maintain their skills flying due to lack of funding and unable to conduct their missions. Notwithstanding, the Air Force is not able to even fly because they do not have the Aircraft nor the money to fly their Aircraft. This has caused "the most current and qualified Air Force fighter pilots are flying at a rate so low that we could have considered them unfit for combat in the 80's and 90's"(Cooper). Accordingly, when pilots are not getting enough time up in the air it causes more errors and makes pilots more likely to commit fatal mistakes. This also gives the enemy an advantage in the air when engaged in combat because the more practice pilots have at flying the better the pilot. Ordinarily, this has caused "Capitol Hill, several top U.S. military ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Military Advantage Tuition Assistance in the Military: Is it Worth it? College nowadays is expensive. Too expensive for any student to be able to pay without applying for countless scholarships, hoping they can win just enough to push themselves through, or taking out incredibly large loans and going into debt to further their education. However, there is a more reliable, more financially stable option. Students struggling with paying for college should join the military. Although the military is a potentially dangerous and life–changing option, it is one of the better ways to get yourself through college, and set yourself up for future job opportunities. As well as coverage of most college expenses, the military provides a multitude of other benefits, including experience that is easily utilized in the civilian world. Although there is danger associated with joining the military, the benefits far outweigh the costs. Especially with the many benefits and privileges that come along with it. The main reason many people would join the military for is the coverage of college expenses. According to "College Costs: FAQ," the average cost of college tuition over 4 years can range anywhere from $9.4k to $32.4k. Most college students, if working, work a minimum wage job due to lack of education for a higher paying job. In Oregon, the minimum wage is approximately $9.75 per hour. A student in Oregon would have to work a minimum of 3,857 hours over four years, without spending any of that money earned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. China 's Recent Assertions Of Military Power During The... China's recent assertions of military power in the South China Sea is a serious threat to U.S. National Security, and will remain so if China is not confronted or restricted. In recent years, China has increased military spending, weapons, and is now building artificial islands on highly disputed territory in the South China Sea to expand territorial claims. Since the world is anarchic, conflict is always a possibility between States that the U.S. must be aware of and prepared for. In regard to U.S.–China relations, the United States goal should be to protect the freedom of navigation, prevent any further expansion China makes on disputed territory in the South China Sea, and to hold China under high surveillance observation. To accomplish the previously stated goals, the U.S. should respond to China's recent assertions of naval and air power in the South China Sea through the military initiatives of surveillance and power projection by deploying more ships to the South China Sea to protect Asian allies and any trade traveling through the international water. Before I lay out the benefits of the previously stated military initiatives the U.S. must utilize against China, I will first address what actions China has taken in the South China Sea that threatens the United States. On 20 January, 2014, it was reported by TIME that China's military spending has tripled over a decade and that they are building a new aircraft carrier (Thompson). • 8. The Foreign Policy Strengths For The Privatized Combat Role Analysis Strengths The foreign policy strengths for the privatized combat role includes policy flexibility, force agility, and reduced political barriers. Policy flexibility is defined as the variety of options available and the scope in which they can be applied. The resulting collection of choices which may be mapped and compared to other choices can be referred to as the option space. In the case of the military, some of the policy options available can include mission types and the variety of roles from non–combat to combat. Force agility is defined as an armed force's scalability, physical mobility, and adaptability. Force agility is mostly understood as a tactical level capability but the potential to provide agile capabilities can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within Canada, the military attempts to cover a wide range of capabilities and maximize their utility. Instead, Canada could contract specialized companies as the need arises. For example, should Canada decided to launch a peacekeeping mission the government could contract a private policing corporation who specializes in addressing crime. Furthermore, in theory a free market economy would force competition between security companies which would encourage the most efficient and effective service to provide the services required by Canada. Force agility is improved with private companies in mobility, scalability, and adaptability. Mobility is a matter of how forces can be transported and equipment is deployed. For private military companies, the ability to contract logistical services to private airlines or shipping companies can far exceed the capabilities of the Canadian military without the cost of maintenance or the challenges of procurement policies. The ability to scale up and demobilize forces quickly is important from a policy perspective and was demonstrated by private military companies in the Iraq conflict. Companies are able to scale up forces more quickly than a military force because a traditional military has to train and plan for surges before hand. Military companies, assuming they are not at maximum manpower already, can add or remove troops from a theatre of operations with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Essay Military Bearing In the United States NAVY, military bearing is the root in which every service member practices in order to carry out good discipline and ethics throughout ones military careers. The Eleven General Orders of a Sentry, The Articles of the UCMJ, as well as our own Sailors Creed illustrates how a military service member should conduct himself or herself on a daily basis, on and off duty. Dependability is a major aspect of military bearing. Without dependability, one can neither perform properly in the workspace nor be depended upon by their coworkers, or chain of command to carry out their military duties adequately. Respecting senior officers is imperative in order to maintain good military order up and down the chain of command. Punctuality is a key aspect of ones NAVY career. Tardiness can affect the mission of the command. In such an event as General Quarte! rs, one can not afford to be late in carrying out their assigned tasks, for the repercussions can be life threatening to ones fellow shipmates, as well as to the integrity of the ship. Being late to watch can affect the quality of work being done in the work environment. Quarters is a vital necessity within our NAVY where ones chain of command can brief all hands on new information concerning either the workspaces or ones specific job. Watch standing is every sailor's duty. Without a proper and thorough turnover it hinders the effectiveness of the watch station. Missing information during turnover can result in wasted man–hours, equipment damage, or can compromise the security of the command in which one works. Physical readiness standards are another element of military bearing. Physical readiness standards or better known as PRT's are held every six months for NAVY personnel. The PRT is a test in which each member of the NAVY must perform and pass within certain standards in order to maintain peek performance in his or her military careers. Such aspects of the PRT are based upon sit up, sit and reach, push ups, as well as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Reign Of Peter The Great The reign of Peter the Great has been a source of considerable historical debate for many contemporary and traditional historians. Especially, the transformation he made to Russian culture, politics and economic, which arguably changed the foundations of society. Thus, the interval of some three hundred years has allowed us to access Peter the Great 's reforms more accurately but we must consider that Russia during the late 17th century existed in different ethical and social circumstances to our own contemporary society as to make it almost a foreign civilisation. Judgements about Peter the Great using today 's political and moral perspectives may have to be tempered unless we are accused of historical and cultural relativism. Therefore, we must be careful in analysing the impact that his many reforms caused and the lasting nature that they had on the very foundations of Russian society. Through his reign Peter revolutionised his country, 'reorganizing and strengthening the state and army, conquering new territories and building newnavy , a seaport, and a new capital in St. Petersburg '1. The most significant change, Bushkovitch argues, was his campaign of Europeanisating Russia 's culture which saw the introduction of all forms of Western advancements emerge into the society and by 1725, Russia had achieved the aim of entering on the European stage. The ultimate objective was to at least equal if not surpass other European states while joining them in their great power ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Billy Mitchell : An American Hero The name Billy Mitchell brings many images to mind. To most, he is an American hero and considered to be one of the most influential figures regarding the creation of the modern Air Force. He was a successful aviator in his own right. What many do not know is that his ideas for the future of air power for the United States military were considered insane. Mitchell was a staunch proponent for an investment in air power as he deemed it was the future of warfare, a vision he would eventually be praised for. During his time, however, his views were considered preposterous as the focus was on battle ships and other naval vessels deemed necessary for war. He was seen as egotistical as he dismantled the opinions of anyone who opposed him. His statements and arguments against his superior officers eventually led to his court martial and resignation from the military. Mitchell was recognized posthumously for his contributions to aerial warfare. William "Billy" Mitchell was born in Nice, France in 1879 to a U.S. Senator. He grew up in Wisconsin and enlisted in the Signal Corp in the U.S. Army at the age of 18. Due to his father 's influence in the government he quickly earned a commission as an officer. He served in Cuba, the Philippines, and Alaska until his eventual appointment to the general staff. At the time, he was the youngest member of the general staff at the age of 32. A Memo to the President from a Military Base This is a memo is in response the recent events at the San Onofre nuclear facility and the military's capabilities in the region and potential responses to the problem. In the tri state area California, Nevada, Arizona. We have 29 military bases with several others in the surrounding states (Colorado, New Mexico and Oregon). This disaster is, depending on the wind, a serious threat to at least: southern California, central Arizona and northern Mexico. However we have reason to believe that this could affect southern Nevada and central California as well. It is for tis reason that our first and foremost priority should be evacuation and containment of contamination. For this task all four military branches and the coast guard are equipped and willing to asset in these two tasks; however some of the military bases in the region must be evacuated first so that they may return to help in the evacuation. • 15. Cultural And Gender Bias Has Become An Indelible Part Of... For the most part, bias has become an indelible part of our society's fabric. Cultural and gender are amongst the most common biases we may encounter on a daily basis. The latter derives from the belief that one race or gender is superior to the other or that one gender is more likely to succeed over the other when given a specific activity. Although cultural and gender bias are amongst the most likely to occurred on a daily basis, as an educator, we most be aware of other more subtle types of biases such as those affecting the children of military service members. While researching for this assignment, I learned that being the child of a military service member could be extremely challenging for a child to deal with. Not only do they have to deal with constant changes of schools and friends whenever their parents are reassign to other locations in addition to the high levels of stress caused when their parents are deployed to combat. Being deployed is a fact of life for military members. This experience has enabled me to develop a deeper sense of awareness and compassion for military children and the hardships the face. • 16. The Pros And Cons Of Women Serving During Combat Roles The Pros and Cons of Women Serving in Combat Roles A number of arguments have been raised in defense of a military policy that bans women from serving in combat roles. Pros argues that women should be allowed to serve in combat roles in the Armed Forces. Cons argues that women should not serve in combat roles because they would not be as effective in combat as their counterparts. 1.Cons of women serving in combat roles in the armed forces. A.Physical Ability – Some jobs in the military are created for men and women and some are created just for men because women are not physically suited to work in those job fields. This is also the case with the standards of physical fitness. The physical fitness requirement program is catered more towards men than women. Often time women injure themselves trying to meet these standards and keep up with the men. B.Military Readiness – Some women become pregnant around the time they have to deploy, and this can cause certain billets to go unmanned and some job billets to be under staff during deployment. It also reduces the number of women required for deployments. C.Physical Abuse during on Deployment – The military constantly trains men and women about sexual harassment, and sexual assaulted within the military. This is a big problem when men and women are on long deployments together. While the history and establishment of Camp Lewis is not as important as preparing for war, it is important to know the past in order to help posture and mold the future of tomorrow. The idea for Camp Lewis was fought for by the civilian populace of Pierce County in Washington State. Late in1916, as war continued to escalate in Europe, a private group of concerned citizens gathered at American Lake to organize a training program designed for civilian personnel. The program was designed to encourage readiness among the community in preparation for the possibility of going to war in Europe. One of the attending civilians was a cadet named Stephen Appleby. Mr. Appleby (a former Captain in the Minnesota National Guard) was vice –president of the Northwest Business Men's Preparedness League and a bank cashier for Tacoma Washington. He was informed that the Army was sending out a survey team to the Northwest in search of establishing an Army Post. Mr. Appleby contacted the commander of the survey team and asked him to make a site visit of the camp that the community had established as possibility of use for the Army. Explain The Economic Logic Underpinning Mahan’S Theory Explain the Economic Logic Underpinning Mahan's Theory of Sea Power Captain Alfred Thayer Mahan published The Influence of Sea Power upon History, 1660–1783 in 1890, in which he attempted to analyze the role of sea control throughout history. Mahan, a naval officer, used his sea experience to create a theory about naval history that is unlike any other history work. Upon examination of Theodore Momsen's History of the Roman Empire, which included the history of the Second Punic War, Mahan emphasized the significant role that sea communications played in Rome's victory. Additionally, he describes the relevance of different maritime campaigns in various battles that took place during the French and American revolutions. Mahan evaluates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mahan devotes most of his introduction to the history of sea power. He starts by discussing how the manner in which a war is fought changes as navies have evolved from galleys to steam ships as well as the advancement of weapons, but that the principles behind maritime war remain the same. In effort to illustrate the importance of sea power throughout history, Mahan details the impact that sea power had on the second Punic War. The control of the water by the Romans forced Hannibal to depart on the devastating venture through the Gaul. Instead of explaining the actual conflict at hand, Mahan explores the strategy that would have been necessary to defeat Rome. The Carthaginians would have needed to invade the Roman Empire in Italy either by sea or by transport through the Gaul. Rome had control over any strategic location available to the Carthaginians during the war and this was all made possible by the sea. Analyzing this war specifically through the actions of the Roman Navy proves that the history of sea power is crucial in understanding the history of the world. Mahan asserts his belief in the importance of learning from history by stating, "The battles of the past succeeded or failed according as they were fought in conformity with the principles of war; and the seaman who carefully studies the causes of success or failure will not only detect and gradually assimilate these principles, but will also inquire increased ... Even as far back as in 1870, 34 years before World War I took place, every German staff officer in Europe knew "the nation which loses the mobilization race is likely to lose the war" (Stratachon 37). Military Brats are in fact, a subculture that have a real presence in our society and have their own struggles they face as individuals. The first and most important question that needs to be answered is, what is a Military Brat? Wertsch answers this question perfectly in the introduction to her book "Military Brats: Legacies of Childhood Inside the fortress. "I was a military brat . . . I was guaranteed free medical care and subsidized food and housing until the day I finished college and had to turn in the ID card that granted me these rights and privileges" (Wertsch, Intro). Essentially a Military Brat is an individual either born or raised on military bases for a majority of their lives. Where does the name Military Brat originate though? The phrase "Military Brat" is actually an acronym, Brat stands for, British Regiment Attached Traveler (Caban). Many close–minded people come to the conclusion that transgenders are weak and it is affecting our military when in reality they are doing the complete opposite. They deserve to be treated equally and be given the same rights because they are also a human and deserve the same respect. The overall best decision is to lift the ban and apologize for taking away their rights or else there will never be equality in our society. Just a year ago, transgenders were given the right to freely serve in the military, but now Donald Trump took away their ability to do so. On July 26, Trump tweeted, " Our military must be forced on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. • 28. The Lack of Free Speech in the Military As a member of the United States military, there are times that the very freedoms that are being defended are not extended to those sailors and soldiers that are in charge of that task. One of those freedoms is freedom of speech. As a veteran of the United States Navy, I find the limitation of speech for a member of the military to be contradictory at best. The very fact that members of the armed forces cannot speak freely about government officials, as well as government issues that affect their lives, seems to be controversial because it limits one of the freedoms these sailors and soldiers have vowed to protect. To oppose the right of free speech of any member of the military takes away from the importance of the job they do. It has been argued that a member of the military should be mindful of whom they work for and the chain of command that orders come from, and that any display of dissatisfaction can be seen as disobedience or even treason. I support members of the military being able to voice their thoughts on issues that impact their lives, as well as the lives of their families. There are a few reasons why I support this. Simply put, as Americans they have the right of freedom of speech. Given the responsibilities of these sailors and soldiers in their day–to–day jobs, they should be entrusted to know what to say and what not to say. Most people take for granted the right to speak one's mind, right or wrong, and have nearly no ramifications for doing so. When one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First of all, the U.S. military bases bring economic benefits to Okinawa. After large portions of Okinawa 's land was taken by the U.S. military, the agricultural industry in Okinawa, which was the main industry in Okinawa, suffered catastrophically. In response, the U.S.military increased the pay for the local workers they hire and urged the Okinawans in the agricultural industries to come work for the U.S. military. Approximately 70,000 local workers were hired by the U.S. military at most in the 1960s. In 2014, the U.S. military base employs about 8,600 people from Okinawa and is considered as the second largest employer in Okinawa, which is right below the Okinawan Prefectural government. (The United States Marine Corps) The population of Okinawa in 2014 was approximately 1,400,000, excluding the U.S. service men and their family members. (Okinawa Prefecture Planning Department Statistics Division) Though the number of Okinawan workers hired to work in the military has decreased to less than one percent of the population, there are several benefits for the workers. This embargo was detrimental to the Japanese supply because Japan depended on the US for 80% of its imported oil. The Japanese also had no significant natural sources of oil in its possession. This two–step approach would have been more effective in pursuing the Japanese's GCPS because the short–term setback would have allowed for the long–term survival of Japan's plan to become a regional great power. By taking the admittedly high–risk route of attacking Pearl Harbor, the Japanese significantly constricted the GCPS's chances of survival. The best solution may have been to kill them, but due to the rules of engagement that was not necessarily an option. The team decided to let Marcus make the final call. He thought about it for several seconds before declaring, ""We gotta let 'em go"" (236). Being the man he is, he made the choice to not be charged with murder for killing prospective innocent humans. Also, he showed his morals about being principled when he never left any of his dead buddies behind. In the military, no man is left behind. Even when they were not able to find Axe's body the first time, Marcus talked to the guys again and they went back to searching because they were , "...not about to leave him up there" (420). Marcus and every member searching for Axe would not leave him up there. They searched until ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Propagande, Russia, and USA I know you heard about this. It was propaganda at its best and Russia just posts what the U.S. is whining about. Russia has learned that western media makes itself look like an ignorant buffoon, because the western press has a very low level of intelligence to deal with in its stories. Americans as a rule are not that well educated and reading is a byproduct of that situation. So post the dribble from the west and the west looks less and less intelligent everyday... The Pentagon said a Russian fighter jet made multiple close–range passes near an American navy destroyer. The warship was deployed in the Black Sea as Russian military monitored NATO's systematic build–up of naval forces in the region. "This provocative and unprofessional Russian action is inconsistent with their national protocols and previous agreements on the professional interaction between our militaries," said Colonel Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman. "I have difficulty believing that two Russian pilots on their own would choose to take such an action." First lets understand where this happened. This did not happen in the Gulf of Mexico or somewhere near the U.S., it happened near Russia and Ukraine and it was in the Black Sea. Now the Black Sea is about as big as a old time washtub when it comes to putting tons and tons of warships in it... Right now the Black Sea is way too crowded. As of today there are 5 non–black sea state warships operating in the Black Sea: USS Truxtun DDG–103 Displacement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Operation Redwing Analyisis Operation Red Wing On June 28, 2005 The SEAL team, led by LT Michael P. Murphy and consisting of petty officers Matthew Axelson, Danny Dietz and Marcus Luttrell, were on a mission to kill or capture Ahmad Shah, a Taliban leader who commanded a group of insurgents known as the "Mountain Tigers," west of Asadabad. The initial counter–insurgent mission in Kunar Province, Afghanistan seemed to be running accordingly with a successful infiltration into enemy territories until local Goat herders stumbled upon the teams hiding spot. While very concerned with their own well being the Seal team was unable to verify Hostile intent from the herders. LT Murphy put the final decision of the goat herder's fate up to vote by the team. Axelson voted to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With a strong need to quickly find the lost SEAL team the US military had over 300 men working in search and rescue operations. Nearly two days after the initial attack the men had located the downed helicopter and verified that all 16 aboard had been killed. Despite multiple attempts, the search helicopters were unable to locate the wounded Navy SEAL and he was soon announced MIA. On July 2, the village elder of Sabray, carrying a note from Luttrell, went down to seek help from Camp Blessing, a Marine outpost several miles away. First Lieutenant Matt Bartels was the first to hear of the lone survivor and soon called up to higher for extraction plans. With high hopes the US military drew up extensive plans for Luttrell's retrieval making him a high priority. As if the Taliban heard of the SEALs new hopes for rescue they were more persistent than ever at getting him as their captive. The rescue teams of the US closed in upon the village when they suddenly ran into Luttrell and some of the villagers who were moving him from one hiding place to another. Six days later the search teams found the bodies of LT Murphy's and GM2 Dietz but STG2 Axelson was never found and is now pronounced KIA. This tragic event in our nation's current War on terror is arguably the worst of the decade. There are so many aspects of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Problems With Military Deployments Joseph Weikart Professor Hundley English 85, Section 6013 21 October 2015 The Problems With Military Deployments Even today, most American's are unaware about the problems that military families face. Right now the United States military has a record–breaking number of active–duty parents deployed in various military conflicts all across the world. The long conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan has majorly affected many families. New research is showing the affects the deployments are having on military families, especially how the children are being affected. Many of the children are having problems with their education and also may have sociological problems. This is not a new problem, but only in the last couple of decades has the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lt. Taijeron's story is one that is mirrored by many other service–members. Many deployed parents also feel guilt when they miss significant events that occur in their children's lives. Many resources suggest that loved ones should send many pictures or videos of the children, so that the service–member does not feel totally excluded in their children's life. Even though the Department Of Defense and many private organizations have many resources and also have started many support programs to help military families, many families still struggle to cope with the separations during long deployments. One effect that some military children face is the inability to focus on their education while they are worried about their deployed or absent parent or other family member. In Lyle Amaani's article, "Much– Traveled Military Children Enjoy Opportunities, Face Challenges", Navy Admiral Harry B. Harris Jr states, "It's no surprise that studies have shown that children of military parents are often more vulnerable to fear and anxiety, and that those stressors manifest themselves behaviorally and academically". Worrying about their parent on deployment can affect military children's grades and cause them to not perform as well as their classmates in school. In a report ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Battle Of The Somme Prepare for war! That is what you hear and your heart stops while your jaw opens and you gasp for air that is not there. While talking about the history and establishment of Camp Lewis is not as important as preparing for war, it is important in that the knowledge of our past will help posture and mold the future of tomorrow. The idea for Camp Lewis was fought for by the civilian populace of Pierce County in Washington State. Late in the year of 1916 the "Battle of the Somme" was at full force when a private group of concerned citizens got together at American Lake to organize a training program that was designed for non–enlistment personnel. The program was designed to encourage readiness among the community in preparation for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He met with Mr. Appleby and the league about the possibilities of the land use. Earlier that year, (August 1916) there was a bill that was passed by the U.S. Senate that allowed the Secretary of War to accept land that was donated tomilitary for a supply station, mobilization, training, and other strategic military purposes. The General and the appointed members from Washington State took their proposal to Washington D.C. and met with the Secretary of War, Chief of Staff, and President Woodrow Wilson to discuss the possibility of a military post in the Nisqually area of Pierce County. Part of the agreement for establishing the post was that Washington State would donate 140 square miles to the military. Mr. Appleby and his league now had the daunting task of convincing the community members that purchasing and donating the land to the Army was the beneficial thing to do for Pierce County and the Puget Sound area. "On 6 January 1917, 86 percent of the Pierce County Electorate voted to bond themselves for 20 years for $2,000,000 to purchase 70,000 acres to be donated to the federal government for use as a military base" Lewis Army Museum (2015). The community agreed to the terms but could not donate the land until the United States was officially at war. Once the U.S. entered World War I, Pierce County seized the land by purchasing it from the landowners. This allowed them to give it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
